I just started using SmartAsset this year. It was one of the companies that was offered by the firm that I work with, so I gave it a try. And I had some success early on with the platform. After a few months, things really slowed down, and it’s just been hit or miss. But it has brought some value to me. It is not a cheap service. It’s costly. It can be volatile in terms of value. It can be highly valuable sometimes, and then other times, not valuable at all. So, the service is not perfect, but it’s adequate.

I understand it’s a hit-or-miss situation. Some people are as friendly as can be, and some people really don’t seem to know why they’re talking to me. I’ve seen the advertisements on TV, and I don’t think they always explain things clearly, so people aren’t always sure why they’re calling.
But I’m not really dissatisfied, even though I paid extra for leads with higher assets. I don’t feel like I’m always getting people with a million dollars in assets, which is something I question. But in some ways, it’s fun. Sometimes it’s actually enjoyable just talking to someone. I’m 74 myself, but I get to talk to people and go, "Oh, my God! Where are they coming from?". I even have my assistant working on it, and she’s getting good experience just talking to people. It can be entertaining at times.

SmartAsset has a positive impact on my business. The leads provided by the system are pretty accurate, and kind of pre-scrubbed, so it saves time. I've gotten a few clients, and I've been reasonably happy with the results. SmartAsset is a good marketing system if one is trying to grow their business, and they're willing to follow the system.

I am very impressed with the paycheck calculator tool and express my utmost gratitude for this website. I would appreciate it if a feature were added to calculate double time and time and a half. Apart from this minor suggestion, I find the site to be exceptionally user-friendly and comprehensive.

I found SmartAsset on an industry website as a way to grow my business. So far, it’s been pretty good. Probably not as well as they’ve advertised, but I have gotten some business from them. The quality of service has been good, though I would say the product they provided could be better. One improvement they could make is to filter the leads better.

Some of my colleagues use SmartAsset, so I decided to give it a shot and it's been great. It's clear cut. The reps give you some leads, you have to reach out and then try to get some business out of that. That's all. Everything's fine with customer service.

From a lead standpoint, SmartAsset was awesome. My son also uses them, but he needs to pick up the phone more often. Most of the leads they're getting are legit. They're somewhat organized and they set up a pipeline so that they can get in touch. The service has been fine. My rep has stayed in touch and they offer some training or testimonials from other people that it's working well for them. I'm not happy or unhappy, but I am not going to renew in September because my son actually got a new job and I'm comfortable with my referral status.

Working with SmartAsset has been good and I’ve had some success. The customer service and the processes have been good. They’re in a tough business and so am I so I understand that it’s not all bells and whistles.
But maybe if they qualify the end prospect a little bit more, it would be better. A lot of people don’t know why they’re going through the questionnaire. When they go through it, they realize that they’re on some hotline that advisor is gonna ring their towers for. Then that lead is useless. The prospects just don’t know what they’re signing up for. Also, they’re slightly overpriced. But other than that, the quality as are as promised.

There's a Kelley Blue Book of financial advisors. It's a marketing tool. You're paying for leads, essentially. But that was why I run an advisory firm. We group SmartAsset as a revenue ad spend thing. So we try to get two times our revenue ad spend. For every $1 we put in, we get $2 back. Our team is way above average salespeople. Our closing rate’s like 80%. And it's 90% in person, 60% over the phone. We're just really good at what we do. But that's just ‘cause we spend a lot of time training and understanding products and whatnot. If I'm gonna buy leads, it doesn't matter where. How SmartAsset works is that they'll sell the lead three times. I have no issue with it being sold three times, ‘cause it's fair to the consumer, the end client. They get their pick of the litter type of deal. But where I take issue is the timing of when those leads go out. You are competing with other advisors, to other advisors, well, you would think they all get delivered the leads at the same time. And that's the problem that we've come across. As far as needs being met, it's nice to have a fallback thing for some leads if there's a slow month. Like, around winter, the advisory industry really slows down. It's a good backup tool, and we get a 4x, 5x on ad spend on it. My only issue with it is that we've had about seven different instances over the last year in which the lead was clearly sold off to someone else. It was good back in the day, back in like 2018, 2019. They inked a deal with Fisher Investments because everyone we talk to nowadays, every lead, even if we get the lead sent out to us the same day and we pick them up as soon as we get them, they tell us SmartAsset sent them, someone from Fisher, like a week ago. So not great. The only reason I take this stance is that, unlike other advisors, I'm not 150 years old. And I know how to use technology. So, setting up stuff, we don't have a marketing team. It's literally you sit there, and you watch videos. You study stuff. And so, for us, we could pump out six TikToks, Twitter posts, whatever a day, do the same amount of marketing, reach the same crowds that they are. There's no moat to it. That's what I'm saying. As advisors realize that and they get more comfortable in the marketing space, I think it becomes a lot more doable. But they're saying that there's something like 67% of the advisors in the industry are five years from retirement. So, they're in their upper 60s. When I started in the industry, the oldest guy in my office was 75. And that was 10 years ago. I connect with him still once a month. He's still working. He's 85 years old, still working. Those are the types of people who benefit the most from this. It's not that the younger guys really use this as a jump-off point.

I saw SmartAsset advertised on social media, and I’m curious to see exactly how they operate. The prospect was not a silver bullet. I have to really work through them all. But there are certainly some good ones out there. I just have to put in time. My experience with them was okay.
Partnering with SmartAsset has helped my business because the cost and return on investment is a positive net. That means whatever I’m putting into it on an annual basis, and whatever I’m getting out of it, obtaining new clients, is a net positive. It’s a lot of work to sift through the leads and get a qualified potential client. But there are opportunities within the leads.

SmartAsset was able to help me in prospecting for new customers. The service has been well. The frequency was good and the prospects that they referred qualified themselves. You have to spend a couple of bucks, but you'll get high-quality prospects.

SmartAsset got approved by a broker dealer, and then my OSJ approached me and asked me if I'd be interested in trying it. I've built my whole career and client base over lead systems, some good, some bad, so that he knew I would try SmartAsset. With SmartAsset, the nice part is the overall quality of the leads. They're ready to act when you meet with them, and they fall right in the range that you're targeting, so it’s really good. I've done some lead programs over the years where they would set up fake appointments that showed the person's house, and they have no idea who I was, or they were so poor. So, there's been some terrible lead programs.
SmartAsset could be revolutionary in their leads service. They just need to do a couple of little things, and they could take it to the next level. I've got four people right now on my piece of paper. They want me to call in two weeks. One, the day I called her, her husband died the night before. Another one, the husband went into the hospital. They need to have a drop-down box because they have this system that says, “next call.” So, every day, whoever you're supposed to call based on their system pops up. So, they need to have a place instead of setting an appointment, then they need to add to that a call back, and you can put on there what day you're supposed to call somebody back, and it automatically pops up into their system. So, if I talk to somebody, they say call back in 3 days, when I sit in front of the computer, I pick the day I'm supposed to call them back, and that name pulls up along with the regular leads I'm supposed to do. And then if they wanna take it to another level, you add it to where you can add your current client base in there. So, if I have somebody that says, “Call me back on Tuesday, the 17th,” I could add my current client in there and put them in the rotation to call or prospect people I meet outside of SmartAsset, and that would take it to another level. I know they're not originating from SmartAsset, but that makes them more useful in the overall business model because they would be the lead system you go to for everything.
I've had numerous conversations with SmartAsset about adding that feature. It hasn't happened yet, but when they first started, we weren't allowed to do the texting because of our broker dealer. And they were trying to get our broker dealer to do it, so I talked to a broker dealer directly and helped them get approved and everybody in Cambridge now can use their texting feature.

The SmartAsset service is helping me bring in a lot of new business. I get a handful of repeat leads. Right now, the reimbursement timeline is 60 days, they could have increased the length of time they would reimburse a repeat. I know what I pay for. Overall, they did a good job.

It's been underperforming at times and not hitting our expectation, but it's been back and forth. So, I'd say it's good and bad. SmartAsset certainly held their end of the bargain of sending us leads. But are they all qualified? No. There could always be more assistance on contacts and what the best approach is with these types of leads, and we're figuring out as we go. SmartAsset doesn't explain in-depth what processes work and don't work. So, the issue is you spend thousands of dollars not really knowing how to handle leads, and there should be a better process with that. And by the time you figure out a process, you're six, seven months down the road, and have spent $16,000, $15,000, $20,000, depending on your package, just to learn and figure it out.

We use SmartAsset in the office just trying to look for sources to generate some leads. Leads aren't quite as good as I had hoped. They might be people that are doing a lot of online surfing at night and might not necessarily be interested. It's been a lot harder than I had anticipated. I'm brand new at this. I've been doing things long enough to know that I can't make a decision based on five months of data. But the tech is pretty slick in terms of the automatic emails, telling you when to call. That's been fantastic. I just haven't had the results that I'd hoped for.

SmartAsset had a representative that called me. We went through the setting up which was simple enough. I would like the program to work better. But it's working. The depth sales aspect of it is a very good part of the whole service, where they have automated service that goes along with it. That is one of the most valuable aspects of it. The representative that calls me on that has done a good job and helped me to get the program where I needed it. They've done a good job. I'd recommend it if you have the money to do it.

I stumbled upon SmartAsset at a conference in 2018, and they offered to get leads for me and create a bigger opportunity set. So far, the service has been amazing. I only buy the leads for someone with a million or more. So, for every 20 to 25 leads I buy, that'll cost me five or six grand, and I'll get a new client from that five to six grand marketing spend. That pays me about 10 grand a year. I do a one-time spend and then it's reoccurring for as long as I stay a client. So, the value is compelling. The hard part is I feel like I have a good system to use it, but if you're not comfortable calling the people, being persistent without being annoying, then you might not do as well on their service. You have to have the right process and mindset.

I'm in my seventh year with SmartAsset. I like the service. It's better than doing seminars. I think it's better than a seminar lead price-wise. I work with a couple different people. Vanessa is my marketing rep, and she does an amazing job. I also had another gentleman who's been really instrumental too in helping with a lot of stuff. I'd recommend SmartAsset.

I received an email from a sales person at SmartAsset. We had a conference call, and I was interested to see how that works, so we decided to join and, so far, it's worked out very well. They generate certain articles with regard to finances. And if you have a question, then there's a questionnaire that goes out to the person that kind of clicked on that particular article. They provide us some information, and then SmartAsset figures out who's in within the mile radius that you've selected. Then they send you that information and then you begin to make some phone calls. The customer support has been okay. Certainly, anytime I need somebody, I send them an email and they send me a calendar invite or call me back, so it's been fine.
I'd tell friends and family members who are looking for information with regard to their particular finances and questions that they may have, whether it be about investing or taxes or state planning, that SmartAsset's articles are very good. And then if they have further questions, they lead you to a financial advisor in their area. They give you 3 choices so you have the ability to really take a look and see who best fits your particular needs or character. What I’ve really liked best of all is they didn't oversell this. What they told us what we were going to get is exactly what we get and the results are much on target.

Everything is hit or miss when you do online, but as far as the program is concerned, I'm profitable on it, so SmartAsset has been worthwhile to keep. I've been working with the same guy, Sean, and we built the game plan for my year's package. We're coming up on the sixth month mark next week so we're having a meeting about that. He has been in touch every month, so it has been smooth.

I had a great experience with Smart Asset. I sought their services primarily to connect with individuals I wouldn't typically have access to, and their service has worked exceptionally well for me. The interactions with Smart Asset's representatives have been smooth, and the quality of leads I received has been largely positive, despite an occasional mix-up where some people weren't aware of the outreach. One of the most notable benefits has been the return on investment, which has successfully met my needs. In terms of customer service, lead quality, and pricing compared to other services, I'd rate them all a 5 out of 5. However, I haven't yet had the opportunity to utilize their online tools or website, but I plan to explore those features soon. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my experience.

I saw that SmartAsset has a function for finding a financial advisor. I'm a financial advisor and I'm looking to grow my business. So, it intrigued me. I’m getting more than I expected from SmartAsset as far as the amount of meetings I'm getting. So, I'm happy with it. I highly recommend them.

SmartAsset is a very professional company to work with, and I'm enjoying it. It is real people that probably need help. It's hard to find those kinds of people, and SmartAsset matches me with them, which I appreciate. However, they should let the people know the respondents to the survey know what it is they were doing, that they would have a professional fiduciary adviser reach out to them to set up a meeting to help them. They would get a call about getting some help with their investment management. SmartAsset does that at the end of the survey, but I'm not sure the people know that, or perhaps, the information is shared with several advisers The service would cost much more if that were the case.

I've gotten one client out of SmartAsset over the last year. I see the value in the service but it's a saturated market at the same time. The quality of the leads is not as great as I'd like it to be. It's not their fault but at the same time, some of these people are just hunting information and they don't wanna be reached out to. They fill out the survey in the hopes of getting a calculator. A large percentage of the people, you either never get ahold of or just out of the gate aren't interested.
The people that are in SmartAsset's support team, whether that's sales or the account managers, have all been good to work with. But SmartAsset would get a lot of loyalty points from advisors across the board if they found a lead to be invalid and they invalidated it across the three advisors, rather than if I find out that a number doesn't work, I'm gonna invalidate it because I can't get ahold of that person. But what if the other two advisors that also got that lead never get ahold of them and they don't realize that that number is not working or it's not for that person? They're gonna have paid for that lead, and SmartAsset's gonna pocket that money. I find it to be a very dishonest way to go about it.

I spend a lot of time doing the job of being a financial advisor, so it is nice to outsource marketing to SmartAsset, especially in a landscape where most people are being invited to seminars disguised as "Come and listen to our retirement income strategies," then in the backend, they're being sold something unexpectedly. We didn't want to do that. Plus, SmartAsset puts us in touch with people who already want to get in touch with a financial advisor and that's valuable. It's somebody who's already seeking help and we're sort of saying, "Look, we can provide that." SmartAsset allows us to do it more passively because our days are filled with doing work for our clients. SmartAsset also allow us to not actively figure out how to market or provide seminars to people. It's a slightly more transparent and authentic way to make introductions, and that tends to align with how we want to approach things.
So far, we're happy with the service. It would be very good for anybody really looking to grow. We are a very niche firm, so we're not trying to just add in everybody. Having the platform has been an ROI positive for us, but it's not as much as it would be if we were trying to just grow into oblivion with utter disregard for the kind of people that we were working with.

I was able to pinpoint the location I wanted leads from, and then I only paid for what I got. So if in a particular month, there weren't a lot of leads, I didn't pay for them. But I didn't get a lot of leads. Some of the leads just weren't accurate. But it's not a bad program. It's just mediocre. They're giving the lead to three people including yourself. So you've gotta compete against that. That's fine. But they could look at these leads and make it a little cheaper since three people are paying for it, so the cost doesn't need to be as high as it is.

I knew that other people used SmartAsset. It seemed legitimate compared to some of the other lead generation services which are shady. However, it would work better if they made the leads exclusive. They push the leads out to multiple advisers. I called somebody the other day and they said, "You're the fifth adviser who's reached out from that particular connection." There are many other advisers calling the same people. It has not resulted in any new business for me.

We originally saw SmartAsset through advertisements and we were just a three-person RIA and we had some room to grow. We gave it a shot and it's been working well. We've been enjoying it. Yolly, our customer service person, has been fantastic. SmartAsset generated more clients and AUMs for assets under management. They brought us qualified leads and a lot of them are looking, but some of them actually are, and we've been able to land a couple of nice ones.

I wanna generate more referrals. But the referrals I get aren't as qualified as I would like them to be. I don't get that many qualified referrals from them. I get a lot of tire kickers. Or it's just not a good fit in terms of the kind of service they want. So I was a bit disappointed in that aspect. But the setup process was fine. It wasn't an issue at all.

We're in a small geographic area in a niche market. So, SmartAsset seemed like a way we could meet people we might not. We got some good clients. We get a lot of leads. I have an excellent representative there at SmartAsset. He is very responsive anytime I reach out with questions. He seems understanding of our firm's goals and concerns, and works around those. However, there we received a lot of leads that were inaccurate. The responder grossly overestimated their net worth which caused us to pay a much higher fee for the lead than what they have. We've been a bit disappointed in that.

The setup was smooth. They asked for the banking info to charge for the leads they give and they bill once every month with a receipt with the leads you received for the month. It was a pretty quick set up that took no more than 30 minutes. It's a pretty straightforward program. No hidden ball tricks or anything like that with the consumer.
The expectations they set are in line with the results I've gotten, so I'm happy. Also, I got a direct account manager who helps me and checks in every now and again, making sure everything's going smoothly. They make sure that they know that they're there if I need them. And as far as when I do have to reach out to them, they seem to be pretty quick with the responses.

We got a lead generation system from SmartAsset that was approved by our compliance department. The service has been okay. But it's been spotty. You get assigned an account rep, and sometimes the account reps are responsible or responsive. So, it's been a hit or miss.

SmartAsset has been very good. We meet the expected number of new households a year. The clients like the different variety of communications. Some enjoy the email, some enjoy the text, and some enjoy the calls. So, it's a great way to kind of reach out to a wide variety of people.

I was looking at getting some people to work with and SmartAsset works great when people answer the phone.

I'm a financial advisor and I need leads and people to talk to. I've been using SmartAsset for 5.5 years now and the process has been excellent. You have to work very hard on the leads and you kiss a lot of frogs before you get a couple of princes. But overall, it has worked out well. I wouldn't keep giving them $1,000 a month if they weren't any good. They've been in the main source of my new clientele since I moved to North Carolina.

So far, the service of Smart Asset has been fairly well. I think you would hope and expect for a little bit more prospect engagement, meaning, people fill out these surveys, you'd hope that they meant to fill them out and fill them out with the intent that they wanted to be contacted. But a good majority of them did not want to be. They thought they were more filling something out online at their own convenience. That's been a little bit tough to work through. But at the same time, it has created revenue for our business and done fairly well from an actual revenue and new client engagement standpoint. We have a relationship manager and she is good with responsiveness within the day and does tend to or address concerns or requests that we have. If they want to have a perfect rating themselves, they need to take the time and focus on the follow-ups to people and have a diligent process around it.

I needed additional marketing for my business and Smart Asset works great. Connects me with people who are nearing retirement or who are in retirement. I'm able to help them improve their situation. They're doing a good job of getting some interesting content out on television commercials and the web. You can see that stuff when they have their own questions and they're routing people to experienced advisors like me. I'm overall pleased with how it's all working out.
When people take the survey for SmartAsset, they're being told it's a 15-minute to 20-minute survey and that they're gonna be connected with three advisers that they can call and ask questions of. But some people lie and they'll put in a wrong phone number or a bad email address. Or they'll say, “I didn't want a financial adviser. I wanted a real estate agent.” Or, “I wanted a CPA.” But the communication from SmartAsset’s good. It's just hard to make people respond perfectly to all of this stuff.

I found SmartAsset online. I'd heard somebody used them too and I had just started a financial advisory business. COVID hit and I couldn't go see people the way I was gonna build business. I needed some warm leads to contact. Currently, SmartAsset is doing a good job of providing both telephone and online contact information to folks and they're improving what information they get from people. They send a lead out to too many people though. By the time I've gotten ahold of somebody, that person's already received three to five phone calls. There are certain companies that are very active on the system and I run into them a lot.
It's been occasionally frustrating, but overall, it's been a comfortable experience for me. The service has been fair. Between 1 and 10, it's a 5. I don't get a lot of conversations, but when I do, there are people looking for help and I've had a few big accounts come in from it. If someone wants to build business this way, it is a way of doing it, but there are probably other more effective ways of doing it. However, I still use them, so I can't complain too much.

Smartasset is good way to get in front of the people looking to invest money, but the downsides are it's a little expensive and it's not exclusive. I've spent a lot of money and I haven't seen a return on my investment at this point, but I'm sticking with it for now. I have a few prospects now who may be coming on board.

SmartAsset has worked okay. We're getting leads that come through. However, oftentimes, it's difficult for us to get ahold of them. There are so many people calling them simultaneously that they don't wanna talk to us. We don't ever hear from SmartAsset as well. It would be good if they could do a check-in once in a while.

I'm a financial advisor and was looking for another way to get leads to my email, so I can call and pick up more assets, insurance and investments. I reached out to SmartAsset and it worked out really well. My account guy is on the ball. I'm gonna invest some more money with them and keep on using their program. It's really tough, but it works. It's not cheap and it could meet it a little bit more of my needs but it's been worth it so far. I appreciate them.

A lot of the members of my firm have used SmartAsset. When I joined the firm, they gave me an introduction and a lot of other advisors use them, so that's when I met with a SmartAsset rep. I liked them and decided to sign on. The leads have been good. Sometimes it's hit or miss, but it's very rare that they'll give me a bad lead or someone that took their survey in error.
The only thing with SmartAsset is we pay for each individual lead, but it's not a personal lead. It's shared with two or three different advisers from different companies as well. I would appreciate a model where I can get a lead as an individual and there's no competition. It's better for the prospect as well, because then their phone isn't ringing all day because multiple different advisers are trying to get ahold of them. All in all, the service has been very good, and I've enjoyed it a lot. I've found a lot of great clients that I've connected with through the SmartAsset program. I like the way that they do things.

I know a couple other financial advisers that have used SmartAsset in the past and they had some good reviews. So, I gave them a shot, and the service has worked out decently. The process is very smooth, and the customer service is very good. I can call them any time and get someone on the phone. They're very helpful to work. I'm also impressed with the amount of information that they gather as well as how quickly they pass it on to us.

Smartasset's model was okay until a year ago in which they did an upsell program called DeftSales, and most of the clientele to Smartasset, advisers like me working for Edward Jones, are not permitted to buy that service. That service gives the financial advisors who can use it a tremendous advantage over those who can't. So I'm not getting any conversions anymore compared to what I used to. I'm about to drop Smartasset really soon if I don't see an improvement.
A lot of the people I ended up speaking to that were given to me as leads say they didn't really understand that they were gonna be getting calls from advisers. So more often than not, the prospects I got didn't ever want to be prospects to begin with. It's not exactly a warm lead. It's more like a cold, hostile lead, and they're not happy that they're having to field phone calls. Overall, I'm dissatisfied.

I'm happy with Smart Asset. Their service has worked pretty well as far as what they have told me to expect. The process that they have is easy, but you gotta do a little bit of work as far as getting things set up. But they have an interesting process as far as helping you and as far as when the leads come through, how they get handled, setting up an email to automatic emails that go out to the prospects. It's worked, but it's not difficult. But it's worth it.

I'm happy with the service of Smart Asset. It's definitely something that requires time and work to be put into it, whereas a lot of people assume it's going to be immediate and very passive. From my standpoint, I haven't made as much return on investment as I would have liked to, necessarily in the first six months. But I will continue. I see the value in it and will continue doing it for the foreseeable future.
They were definitely helpful and responsive. However, the salespeople were somewhat disconnected from the product and consumer team like anywhere else. There were a few things that I asked very specifically if they could be done and I was told, “Of course. No problem.” But it turned out they couldn't be done. That was frustrating but expected to a certain extent. But the quality of service has been good. Once those expectations were adjusted, and in line with how the product actually works, the service works. It's more on me. There are resources that the firm offers to support whenever needed and they've done what they're supposed to do.

The process at Smart Asset was easy. Didn't have a lot of issues on the SmartAsset side. A lot of compliance on my end of it. But, all in all, they made it very simple, and the leads started flowing when they said they would. However, the adviser that I've got has not been the easiest to be in contact with, and he hasn't always got things done. I work in sales, so it feels like once the sale is done, he's not quite as eager to provide service.

I wanted to get more business that was predictable. I got SmartAsset's service and I had a mostly positive experience with them, but they told me that I had to persist in it. The only downside was that there was a lot of competition in most cases with other advisers because they sell it to multiple people. And it took a long time to close. It’s a quality asset but they shouldn't be selling it to so many advisers because you have to run after the lead immediately, or else you're at a disadvantage often.

SmartAsset has clients that have more than a million dollars, which is the wheelhouse of what I work with. I work with them in conjunction with DeftSales but I have an automated marketing machine that tags my website and gets the client to pick up information that they want from that. From there, I also send these particular client’s videos to the people that watch our videos every month. It’s a continuous grip to them and a good group to have that grip, too. Some of them are a million to five million and some of them are five million plus. SmartAsset’s service has been top-notch.
I've got two leads though that are not real people. I look up everybody on the Instant Checkmate to make sure they're not my competition. But I looked them up and saw that they didn't exist and the cellphone was not associated with the name that they gave. The email address is not associated with the name. So, some of that would be good if they could get that cleared up. But other than that, I don't have any problems with them at all.

It hasn't been great with SmartAsset. There was a lot of communication to get me signed up and I was supposed to have an ongoing account manager that was supposed to give me all of this help. We were supposed to work overtime to dial in the process but I've had almost zero of that since starting. I was told that I would get a certain number of leads and a certain amount of what they called quick calls, where if somebody was live on the line with SmartAsset, they would call me and introduce me directly to that person. A lot of the sales numbers that they were running me were built around, "If you close these quick calls, which are very motivated people, then that alone will pay for the service." But I've had none of those. When I called to say I was told I would have one or two of these a month, I was almost laughed at like that was ridiculous to assume.
A lot of the leads that I am getting aren't people looking for a financial advisor. They're looking for a tax specialist or an insurance specialist. Again, in calling to try to talk to someone about that, they didn't care. They said, "That's why we give you so many leads." It feels like a bait-and-switch type of situation. It's extremely expensive too. In six months, I'll have spent almost $40,000 for this but I've gotten zero return on that money so far.
The person that was setting up my stuff was great. But the person that was supposed to be assigned to me as an account manager, I don't even know who it is. They switched it from the person that onboarded me then it was supposed to be someone else but he's responded to nothing. I don't even know if the person still works there but it was sold that this was the person that I would work closely with in order to get this dialed in to make the most of the service.

I used SmartAsset in the past and had success with them. When I joined a new firm, I decided to see if it would be successful here as well. We got a good deal and the service adds up to what they said would be delivered so it's been going well. They could be a little bit better with the response time, but it's nothing out of the ordinary.

There were simply not enough opportunities through traditional referral sources, specifically the accounting and legal community. My personal network is only so big so we needed a better method of driving new opportunities. We vetted a dozen different lead generation firms and there was another firm that we wanted to go with, with a little bit different business model, but we were not of the scale that they were looking for. So, we went to option B and that was SmartAsset.
We've onboarded a couple dozen clients. The lead flow is what we expected it to be. But the quality is questionable at times. I question the level of vetting that they claim they do. I found a lot of people just sitting around an airport or at home and they come across this thing, It's like clickbait. They go through the survey, hit the send button and the next thing you know, they get inundated with emails and phone calls from advisers that they weren't expecting to hear from. So, in this sort of environment where everything's electronic, it's very easy to ghost people. You just don't answer the phone. You get an email and don't reply to it. So, particularly in the last few months, I have noticed a statistical decline in the number of connections I'm making with the leads that we're getting. I don't know if that's just an anomaly and that we're gonna go back to a more consistent contact rate.
This is what I signed up for. So, I take this right in the vein. I get it that they’re dialing for dollars and they're gonna get a lot of ghosting. The actual people they connect with may say they’re not interested and not to call them again. But my connection rate was 37%, which was good. At least, you have a conversation with somebody and you find out if you can get back to them in a month or six months or never again. So, overall, I give it a fair to good rating. I'm hopeful that the last few months is just an anomaly and that will return to a more consistent connection rate going forward. But we've onboarded a couple of dozen clients and it's a fair amount of assets that comes with it, and incremental fees through financial planning. There are times when people will put in a wrong number or a wrong email address. But Smart Asset is good about invalidating a lead and giving you a credit back for that.
SmartAsset's technology is standalone. They have since bought a company called DeftSales that has been a big help particularly in terms of executing on an email campaign. They have their link for phone calls and the analytics that they collect can be somewhat useful. You set up a campaign and it executes the email campaign automatically. I just gotta write the emails. Once they're written, they're written and they go out automatically over the course of three to four weeks from the time we get the lead until the campaign is over. It’s a very helpful tool. With respect to the servicing side, our representative has been available. She's been engaged with us, shared with us promotions they're running and keeps us in the loop in terms of ways to improve our processes and that kind of thing.

I came across SmartAsset online and I did some research into what they were offering. I used them back in 2019 and then, I changed firms and I've started using them again this year. I've been very happy with everything. They do a good job pre-qualifying and making sure that the people filling out the surveys are interested in having a conversation. My experience has been exactly what was explained to me of what I might experience. They were very accurate in describing the process and some of the results. The service has been great and we’ve been able to talk about any issues I’ve had. It’s easy to get in contact with people.
SmartAsset has created a new avenue to meet with potential clients and it's done so in a way that is not time-consuming for me. So, it has created more consistency and the biggest thing is that I'm able to talk and meet with people and I can positively impact their lives. These are people that are looking for advice and being able to be part of that and to connect with them has been great.

For the three years I've been doing SmartAsset, it goes in waves. I'll be hot and get several clients out of it in a short time period, then I won't for a long time. It sounds like I'm doing something different, but I'm not. I have the same process I repeat over and over. Right now, I've got three good prospects in the pipeline from it, but I haven't brought in a client on this since April. It's crazy inconsistent. I had nothing going all summer, and now I suddenly got three of them I'm working on. I'm probably gonna get at least two of the three, which is good. But I wish I was bringing in three clients every month.
I got a lead yesterday and anytime I call, it goes, "Dee, dee, dee." I've called the guy five times, and every time I call, the phone does that. Now, I gotta go through a process to get reimbursed for that lead because it's a bad lead. I have another one that happened last week but I haven't called SmartAsset on that one either yet. I need to call them on both of these and tell them they're bad leads. Usually they're receptive, but it's a pain to go through that process.
It's frustrating when you get a month-worth of leads then don't get a single person on the phone. I reach out to the leads but they tell me they don't need a financial adviser. I don't get reimbursed for those because they went through the process. I tell them, "I've got your email address and your phone number. Somehow you filled out something online." They say they never did. About every 20th lead is like that where the people act like they have no idea. I also never reach 50% of the leads even if I call them, email them, or message them through Facebook.
On the client side, I think sometimes they get deceived. They click on something that says "Have you saved enough for retirement?" Then the next thing they know, they're being asked of their information, but they don't need somebody. It's like as long as they put their information in there, I've got to pay for the lead. That's another thing that frustrates me a little bit. Don't do SmartAsset unless you're willing to commit to making the calls and have a defined process in place on how you're gonna go through the calls, the follow-up, your presentation. If you're not gonna have all that, don't bother.

SmartAsset has done on par for what they said it would be. But some of it is the product itself. It's a lead generation service so they can't totally control who is signing up or who I'm calling. I can't fault them for anything that way.

Most people are looking at SmartAsset as a way of getting some help with their finances, retirement or whatever their questions are, but from a broker dealer standpoint, it's way of creating sales. I'm a licensed broker looking for other ways of getting clients, and some of the other guys in the office had been using SmartAsset. I did it for eight months, and I might have gotten one sale out of that. It was good to talk to a person immediately, when they call. I only got one of the live calls, and that was very good. I would have had a sale on that, but the lady was from another state up north somewhere and was taking care of her parents' estate. SmartAsset's customer service was little better than average, but I didn't get as many clients as I was hoping. It was rather expensive, so I stopped.

I was looking for a way to connect with potential clients in my local area. The service of Smart Asset has been good. It's definitely better than average. The only thing I would change is, when I have an invalid lead for whatever reason, whether it's a duplicate or somebody has a bad phone number, it would be nice if there was some way to contact my rep, as my rep isn't always available. He might be on vacation or something else is going on. To have a system, whether it's automated online and then somebody gets back to me, would be helpful.

The service has been okay. But the main room for improvement is that SmartAsset says they prescreen, and they do a quality check on the referrals before they come in. But I don't even know what's being done there because we get a lot of invalid numbers. Also, there were a lot of times that people said, "No. I specifically said I didn't want any phone calls," when SmartAsset said that they verify with the prospects that they are anticipating a call. So we wasted money on this lead.

SmartAsset is a viable company and strategy as long as you put in the time and adhere to the process that they have outlined when you onboard with them. The results are certainly there. Our return on investment is, for the most part, lived up to expectation. SmartAsset delivers 70% reliable financial leads. And they're attentive and communicative when those leads don't meet the agreed upon standards. Sean is very quick to respond. He's not hesitant to schedule a meeting should it require that type of communication, and attentive and fair in his review of any criticisms I may have.

We were looking for a legitimate lead service for financial planners and fiduciaries, and SmartAsset was marketed well through a lot of different media platforms. We evaluated it as a team and started in 2020, and we've been utilizing them ever since. Their customer service has been good. They're more proactive than I thought they would be, in comparison to other lead systems. If there's an issue with a lead, they're quick to respond through their portal, and either accept or deny a lead. We went into this as a business expense, and we are meeting our objectives so it's valid to have those fees be at a higher rate. Any financial adviser would pay close to 500 to $1,000 a lead if it was a qualified lead and they would generate revenue from it.

I was looking for a lead generation platform and I've had success with Smart Asset. It's pricey, no doubt about it. But you have to spend the money. If you put enough money out there and stick to making the calls, I've had success with it. They've been great and helpful. Jolie has helped me mainly and has been very open and receptive. They also get back to me right away. I just hope they can vet higher-quality leads. As far as checking the numbers, if they could talk to the leads before they could pass them on to us, it would be great.

In the office, we had one other person and each one of us did research analysis on companies that are effective so we could get a lead generator and their success ratios of closings. I was in charge of one research and another friend was in charge of this one. It was back in 2020 when we did that and I've been with SmartAsset ever since. It’s very simple working with them and the quality is good. I love their Live Connections feature and it’s one of my favorites. I’ve built a nice relationship with the people who’ve called me. We’ve never met, but I recognize them by their voice. I’ve talked to them and it’s quick but I could tell that a few of those people who work at Live Connections have been there for a while.
One guy who called today has been there for over three years and I’ve been talking to him for that period. They know what I'm looking for and what my niche in the market is. So, when they come across it, they'll call me right away and say they know this is a perfect person in my niche of the market. For example, I did a first call today. It was a Live Connections a couple of weeks ago. I found out we’re neighbors. She and her husband are both in the medical field, and my niche in the market is in people in the medical field. So, Live Connections knows that when they meet somebody in the New York area’s medical field, who could be a nurse or a doctor, and they know nurses are my favorite, they'll connect me with those people. Right then and there, I know that person is in the medical field, which is good. I like that.
My business has grown dramatically by using SmartAsset. They do a lot of the legwork for me that I used to do such as trying to go out, do seminars, and meet the same quality of people. They're doing it where I can do it from the leisure of my home or my office or in the car where I am. Other co-workers have joined them and I've referred other colleagues from other firms, too. I recommend it for them to do it.
Every quarter, my rep and I touch base with each other just to see how things are going, and modify things that I wanna modify, if I wanna modify anything. If not, we'll keep it copacetic. We talk strategies, what else I should be doing better and what other people are doing to reach their clients. So, I'm always getting insights from other advisers from other firms. But if you don't put in the work, you don't get the results. With any lead generator, you have to put in the work, the time and the touch points to make it successful, which I do. So, I get the results and I get the growth that I look for.

I've been using them for a couple of years now and the service has been really good. They've given people resource information to make critical decisions mostly in time of transition into retirement. Also, working with them has been collaborative. We call and speak with them if we have questions. For the most part, they've done a really good job and they've exceeded my expectations. I find that the quality of referrals that they give to us is really good. And the people that have interest, it's been pretty good follow through by them. They're probably one of our biggest third party resources that we use.
