I applied with RoadLoans because they lead you to believe they can help nearly anyone in their advertising. It's simply not accurate and is deceptive. I have a current loan but want a better rate and a recovering credit score but was denied because of a couple old late payments and long-ago discharged bankruptcy. I have positive lines of credit and 2 credit cards in good standing.

    Reviewed Aug. 26, 2016

I need help please... I filled out an online application for a car loan with RoadLoans about two (2) weeks ago. I was leary because I am low income, disabled with a low monthly disability amount (less than $1800). Within minutes of filling out the form I was congratulated on being approved... I was shocked... Then I began getting automated calls from RoadLoans congratulating me on my approval. After that I began getting emails from RoadLoans showing me various cars that fall into my loan amount category... Mostly all the cars are at the QueensAutoMall.com. Once I read about RoadLoans and Queens Auto Mall, I presumed they were on the up and up... I called Queens Auto Mall and made an appointment with Emily ** to get this all going for myself. I had a car in the past but that story is really a sad and horrible one.

I told Emily that story and also made sure you understood that I get LESS than $1800 a month in disability... No bank accounts... Just a Mastercard debit from the government. She said it's ok 'we can work with you...' Well, today I called RoadLoans in error... I was calling Queens Auto Mall to confirm my Sept 3rd appt. and to ask my Rep, Emily ** a question. A man answered, and because I still thought I'd called Queens Auto Mall, I gave him my social... He then rudely tells me that I CANNOT be approved because I get LESS than $1800 a month. What?!? I asked him how can that be if I was approved two (2) weeks ago... given an ID number and emailed on what dealerships deal with RoadLoans. Still rude, he says I should call another lender or deal with Queens Auto Mall. I had filled out a finance form online for Queens Auto Mall earlier today at the request of my Rep, Emily **.

After I learned this news from RoadLoans I called Emily but she went to lunch. So I mentioned it to another Rep who claims that I shouldn't worry and that "they will work with me". It's been four (4) hours now since I last spoke with Queens Auto Mall... No one called me back yet. I'm extremely upset as I really need a car. I need help please? The following is an explanation of why I no longer have my car and why I need a car now:

When I was still able to work I purchased a car when I was living in a suburb of Buffalo. I worked hard and paid my monthly car payments on time religiously for three (3) years to Credit Acceptance. My psoriasis, scoliosis and rheumatoid arthritis and the pain it causes grew increasingly worse. I had made my final car payment in October of 2011. I was so happy that I was able to do this on my own. In early 2012 my daughter in Brooklyn, NY suggested that I come and live with her and her husband. She said she missed me and knew I was struggling with physical pain. I agreed after some hesitation and came back to my hometown of Brooklyn to be with my daughter. She and her husband became pregnant with their first child. All of us struggling I could no longer pay my car insurance. I had exhausted what little savings I'd brought with me.

My plates needed to be surrendered. But I needed a place to keep my car for free until I could get my car back on the road. My daughter and her husband brought my car to a nearby supermarket. The manager gave them permission to keep my car in the store lot as long as it was out of the way of patrons. I stayed home to watch my newborn granddaughter. Plus, there was no way I could have walked or taken public transportation to that store. I had my daughter post a note on windshield and rear window giving my contact number and stating that my car had NOT been abandoned. Two days after leaving my car in the store lot, my daughter's husband went to check on my car. He called my daughter to tell her my car was GONE. When she told me I almost fainted. Not only did I lose my car and its contents. I also lost my mother's ashes that were in the trunk.

Later we realized that the manager was somehow in cahoots with the tow truck place. Because that truck came from way on the other end of Brooklyn to illegally and unjustly tow away my car. Once I got tow truck owner's phone number I called and pleaded, begged and cried for him to PLEASE tell me where my mom's ashes are. Where's my car!! Oh God the torture I'm still going through. My poor mother deserved better than whatever happened to her. For that, I have constant nightmares. I'm a only child (58 yrs old now) with no extended family. Just my daughter. I live with an older daughter that doesn't bother with me. That's another story or due to the brainwashing of my ex husband on her. Other than my daughters, I have no one else.

Now I receive disability. Unfortunate for me, the amount is lower than $1000 a month. I can BARELY survive. I can't afford an apartment or even a room of my own. So I live here with my daughter. I'm so lost and trapped here. She gets to borrow her father's car now and then. I have to take car service to doctor appointments. I feel like a prisoner. My granddaughter is now three (3) years old and I watch her while her parents work. My daughter was just diagnosed with MS. So now there's added stress and anguish to an already overflowing plate of despair. I need a car please? My own car. To go to the doctor's office. Or some food shopping (I get $194 in good stamps for me. But I buy food for the 4 of us with that because they stopped my daughters and he can barely pay the rent). I give my daughter $200 a month towards the rent.

Plus I'll buy paper goods, food, etc. when my food stamps haven't replenished. Or when they run out of food and all I have is my disability money. I bought my daughter a cheap recliner from Overstock.com because her back is in much pain and she had no comfortable place to sit. I'm in constant excruciating back pain, with joint pain added. But she needed the recliner. I'm generous with the very little money I have. I wish I could help everyone. I truly do. I'm sorry this was so long. But I needed to explain my story the best that I could.

That tow truck owner is not a nice man. He took my car, my mother's ashes. He took my life that day when he took my car. After struggling and working paying it off every month for three (3) years. This is all too devastating. Can someone please help me with a car? I have no where else to turn. I also very much need to know what that evil tow truck owner did with my mother's ashes. It's all such a painful nightmare. I'm so sorry this email is so long... But I need help very badly... I have no one else... Thank you for your time, patience and consideration in this matter...

On 07/09/2016 I found myself surfing the internet casually browsing everything from my Home Page to Craigslist to my credit report and I paid a visit to LendingTree in the process. Just because I am curious I decided to look into the various tabs across the top of the site and when I saw the auto loans tab I clicked on it and started sort of kicking the tires, so to speak. In my mind it's kind of the modern day equivalent of "window shopping" from a long ago era.

As I sorted through this process I supplied the information that LendingTree required of me to continue which included the last 4 numbers of my social security number. Never did it occur to me that what was happening was that they in turn were passing my information onto various lending companies so as to offer me a loan that I wasn't REALLY searching for. I was really just curious to see what the going rates on auto loans are these days as I currently drive a 1994 Ford Ranger and am looking down the road a bit and it's obviously been quite a while since I've shopped for a car.

To my astonishment I was suddenly inundated by several different lending companies: Carmax, RoadLoans, and LightStream within minutes. I'm thinking that ALL THREE of them have done HARD PULLS on my credit report and I'm not too happy about it. But this is the astonishing part: the offers that I received were based upon an outdated report from LendingTree and the APR I was offered with RoadLoans with a current 735 Credit Score was 27.91% while LightStream offered me 1.99% APR. Are you people CRAZY? I wouldn't choose these people to service my loan in a million years! In my opinion this is a shady way to do business.

I applied through RoadLoans.com and received an approval within seconds. My approval was WAY more than what I planned on financing, with no down payment, at an interest rate I could easily live with. So I was a little concerned that it was too good to be true. I already had a vehicle in mind, and had done lots of research on RoadLoans, including that CarMax was one of the dealerships that works with RoadLoans easily. My first contact was with another dealership, just because they showed as preferred on my RoadLoans packet. This dealership wanted some of my accounts paid off, which I later learned that they were trying to run me through their in-house financing options versus using my RoadLoans approval in order to avoid paying the RoadLoan fees. So I contacted CarMax through their website, and dealt with a very nice salesman who was able to get most of the legwork out of the way via email.

He sent me several cars to look at, I chose one I wanted to test-drive, and made an appointment for the next day. I expressed my concerns to him about them wanting different items than what RoadLoans listed on their paperwork, but he assured me that everything needed was already listed. I test-drove the car the next day and was in and out of the dealership in two hours (half of which was spent with the salesman just talking about things unrelated to the sale), no money down, in a vehicle 3 years old and loaded with options. Within 3 days of my purchase, I received notification that my loan had been funded and I would receive correspondence with my payment date and amount. I won't hesitate to use RoadLoans again if I ever need them.

    Reviewed Jan. 18, 2016

I applied for a loan with RoadLoans and was approved within the hour. At the time, I had never heard of RoadLoans, but I took my chances. I was saving up and establishing credit for a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. I was an individual who had no credit history, never was one to have credit cards or any loans. So it was hard dealing with dealerships because I was considered a first-time buyer. The vehicle I was driving at the time was starting to give problems and was showing signs of not making it through the winter. It was either, buy another car and take on payments, or invest to fix the current car which would eat in the money I was putting aside for the car I wanted. But RoadLoans approved me for a loan of 24K on a credit score of 620.

It was more than enough to get the car I wanted. By this point it was a challenge of finding the car through CarMax or finding a Franchised dealership that would accept and work with Car Loans. CarMax had a few but they were out of my loan range amount. Other franchised dealerships would turn me down on business, because of the RoadLoans 3K acquisition fee. (I found it funny in a way because if I attempted to finance with dealerships directly, based on my credit situation, dealerships would tell me, I have to put down 4K or even 6K for the car. Of course no one would want to just drop that much money down if they didn't have to, so it was sort of whimsical to see dealerships refuse the 3K acquisition fee. I felt as though they now knew how I feel haha. Roadloans only required I put down a $500 deposit).

This is where I came to worry about the validity of Roadloans. Apparently, they charge the dealerships an acquisition fee for doing business with their customer whom they gave the loan to. This is normal with all banks that do auto loans but apparently, for individuals who lack credit or have bad credit Roadloans charges the dealerships a higher acquisition fee. The poorer the customer's credit rating, the more they charge the dealership. This was a thorn in the dealerships side. Most dealerships looked at it from a perspective that made a lot of sense to me; if the dealership is selling the car at book value, if you do the math on the maintenance they do to have the car ready for a sale, the fees they on tax for selling the car, then have a bank tell them to pay 3K or more. The dealership may not break even on that car sale. So I was turned down because the acquisition fee was worrisome to franchised dealerships.

CarMax is favored by RoadLoans and for good reason. CarMax does not worry about the acquisition fee. They pay it. Simple as that. Franchised dealerships are also possible because so long as they are backed by a car manufacturer RoadLoans can consider them credible to do business with. As mentioned however, CarMax did not have the car I wanted, within the range of my loan approval amount. By this point, it came down to waiting for CarMax to get a model in that sat right within my loan approval amount, or getting lucky and finding a dealership that would work with RoadLoans and not back away from the acquisition fee. Not to mention that when you are approved for a loan, that approval is only good for use within 30 days as credit scores tend to change month to month. After the 30th day you have to reapply, and if your credit score changed for the worst during that time, it will complicate things for you.

It took a long time and involved a lot of rejections from other franchised dealerships but eventually with just a week left for the loan approval, I found a dealership that worked with me and accepted the Roadloans acquisition fee. I will say they did get a bit defensive when they learned of the amount Roadloans asked them to pay, but surprisingly they paid it and came back to me with the good news. It has been over a month now and thanks to Roadloans I now own my dream car and I have a good relationship with Santander USA, the bank that owns Roadloans.

My final thoughts are this; I would recommend Roadloans to a friend but I would advise them to keep their search with CarMax so they don't experience the headache I went through unless their situation matches my reason for having to not go through CarMax. I would also be sure to warn them of everything I possibly know about Roadloans from experience as I have detailed in this review. Things are easier for people when the information is clear. I also wish RoadLoans would work with Independent dealerships as well as Franchised dealerships so it opens up a door for more options to the consumer, though I do understand why they stopped dealing with Independent dealerships over a year ago. Independent dealerships that are not bound to a car manufacturer bends their "rules" making negotiations/talks with RoadLoans impossible and unstable, but can't we all just get along?

Lastly, I feel roadloans.com should make changes to their "Dealership Finder" tool on their website. At the time I write this, their tool is broken, however, I also think it could be better. The tool is designed to help you find a dealership that Roadloans trusts or has a good business relationship with. Problem is, it's not robust. The tools only searches for dealerships within a small radius from your home zip code. It does not let you search their list of recommended dealerships based on the car you are looking for. It'd be easier to simply say, I am looking for "this car", and then receive a populated list, rather than "I have a loan, show me 'any' dealership" but only within a fixed set of miles. Other than that, I am happy to have worked with them.

I hadn't received an email because I had a fraud alert on my credit and had to verify additional information. Once I verified I received an instant approval. I contacted a dealership on their list whom claimed that road loans wasn't an extension of credit and he would need my information to get approval from their financing. I set an appt but I came across carmax whom instantly stated they accept road loans. I picked a few cars online and narrowed it to one car in houston. The sales consultant had it shipped to me in a timely manner, kept in contact with me until it arrived. Having already an existing high interest car loan, I was still in need of a secondary car. Having filed Chap 7 but still financed a vehicle after the fact, I was considered high risk, unless I was able to put down like 50% at car dealerships. One day, I simply googled bad credit car loans and RoadLoans pops up. I fill in the blank got an almost crazy approval for $19475.00 with $300 down for a car no older than a 2005 with less than 60,000.

Well, with that stipulation that was a hard chore and much less even dealers wanting to negotiate with you. Finally, nearly 2 weeks of searching, found a car that fit the criteria and the processing was on a roll. Signed paper and took the car home... only to have it come back and say that I already had an existing loan with Santander (I didn't remember) and that I could not have 2 loans.

You think during the approval process they would have noticed that I had an existing loan. I mean how do they determine the amount without review the credit score and what you owe. So today, I get to return back this beauty of a car. What was such a happy place is now so depressing that companies are not capable of being honest, and doing proper legwork on their end to make avoid mishaps such as this. So terribly disappointed.

Here's a good rule to go by. If it seems too good to be true, well then it probably is. My husband and I were approved for a pretty hefty auto loan (around 30k) with a pretty hefty interest (17.5%). But hey, we expected a high interest rate. Our credit is bad. But our loan was for zero down. Which is perfect. We got approved and went to our local in network dealership who first looked at the approval and sent us on our way. A few days later the dealership called us back informing us of our approval. Ok. This time I called customer service. Which by the way... sounded like the lady on the line was in a car or somewhere with heavy wind. But was very polite. She confirmed that the loan was an actual approval. We had to have a car 2005 or newer under 60,000 miles in order to get a loan for 72 months. Or, if the car was over 60,000, it would shorten the loan term. Seems fair. We even used RoadLoans payment calculator.

Fast forward to the next day. We go to the dealership. They spend an hour on the phone with RoadLoans. The ONLY way we could get approved would be for a brand spanking new car. Approved for zero down, that is. Why? Per RoadLoans policy, the dealer must agree to sell a car for 80% of its value. And RoadLoans still has to approve the car! So there is very little freedom of choice. So the dealer found a $20k car and marked it down to 17k. Ok with that interest rate the payments would be out the roof. And even if we put $2000 down it wouldn't have made the payment much lower.

From my understanding, they charge pretty high fees to the dealership too. I think RoadLoans would be good if you found the perfect car. Under the perfect circumstances. But basically the dealership has to agree to cut off 20% of the price, pay a high dealer fee... It's crazy. But it is very deceptive. The website makes it seem so straightforward. No down. Set interest rate. And loan amount must be at least $6500. In my opinion is rather just save the headache. Save some cash and buy a car flat out. Or if you're like us with bad credit, try to fix the credit situation before applying for a loan. Chances are, you might come out a lot better.

WAS NEVER told about this the first time around, even after speaking to several people. Also was hung up on by a so called supervisor. I highly suggest not trying to refinance with roadloans....

After reading the reviews and talking with a few sales people on the phone on Sunday and Monday, I don't understand how they are still in business? They must make their money off the outrageous interest rates after they finally qualify you for your loan. But they will string you and the person you’re buying the car/truck from for what they told me would be 2-3 weeks. Each purchase, dealer or private, has its own department and will probably have their own commission percentages also. All I know is that I never even tried because I respectfully didn't want to string the seller on for that long. With ONE 1 star rating you decide. Never again, just like this country - NO MORALS!

I applied for a loan, got approval, talked to a rep and explained it was not a car it was an RV. She stated because of the year it was not an issue since they will finance anything 2005 or newer..... Not so. I arrived at the dealership and he was unfamiliar with them so he called them. He then informed me they would take 17% right off the top which equaled out to $2,214.34 thus making the stated price from the dealer needing to be about $3,000 more to cover their 17% plus an outrageous 26.79% interest rate. This particular representative stated to both him and I, they do not do loans for RVs thus wasting time for both the dealership and I. I read through the papers I printed and found nothing stating or agreeing to the 17%. THIS IS CALLED A VIOLATION OF TRUTH IN LENDING ACT AND FULL DISCLOSURE LAWS. I tried to purchase a car using Roadloans.com. They said I was approved for $11,171.00 and I had a choice on where I could go to buy it. The first car was a Dodge Magnum with 146k miles at $9600.00 which included tax, license, etc. I printed out the paperwork and took to the dealership, then found out that the car had to be under 120k. Went to the next dealer and found another Dodge Magnum that had 93k miles and Roadloans.com declined that request as well. I called Roadloans.com and spoke to customer service about the issue. I was told that everything was fine and the car had be under 100k miles. I finally went to Bill Stasik Chevrolet where I spoke with a very nice salesman. The car had 95k miles and again called Roadloans.com to confirmed the amount approved. I printed out another copy of the agreement and it said the car had to be under 66k and the loan amount was only $9000. Called Roadloans.com once more and was told that the car had too miles on it so that changed the agreement.

I said this was the third change I had gotten. The representative said I was being unreasonable because I questioned why the change was made. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager there. He did put on his supervisor after several to speak to someone else. The supervisor said I had to find a car with 66k miles or less for $9000. I asked where would I find such a vehicle and he said had never seen one. Roadloans.com gave three different amounts and three different specifications. I couldn't believe how this is okay and they are still in business. Fortunately, Roberto was able to get me approved through a bank they use at Bill Stasik Chevrolet and I was able to get the car. Do not use Roadloans.com or their affiliates. They will not help you.

Unfortunately sitting down at the dealer, with the financing, they would not touch "Road loans" with my 10ft. pole, they stated that "Road loans" purposely hides the enormous fees, that NO dealer will pick up, for supplying you that vehicle, in addition to the high interest rate. During the time that I was looking for a vehicle, I noticed that every time I logged in to print my paperwork that I was given 3 different loan amounts that I had been approved for. But that's not the issue at hand. I spoke to someone from RoadLoans before going to the dealership and I was asked if I was interested in GAP insurance. I said yes and was told that it would be put in my paperwork. I went to a dealership to purchase a car and did so. I left the dealership with my vehicle and didn't even think about asking about the GAP insurance which is my fault.

I called RoadLoans and asked if the GAP insurance was added and I was told by RoadLoans that no it wasn't and that I would have to have the dealership roll back the car deal and that I would need to re-apply with RoadLoans and have the GAP insurance included and then drive back to the dealership which is 2 hours away and have that paperwork signed. Well when I re-applied I was turned down and was told to re-apply with a co-signer. How is this even possible??? I checked my credit score and it is higher now than when I originally applied. Now I have a vehicle in my possession that I have already put a down payment on and signed paperwork on and paid the insurance premium on and now RoadLoans won't approve me when they are the ones who insisted that I re-apply.

My wife and I made the decision we needed to get another vehicle since our truck has been giving us problems and broken down. Plus we have a little girl that has health issues besides our own. It's not good to be trap at home in an emergency situation or nonetheless getting to our jobs! I searched online to find a financial institution to get a loan to purchase a vehicle. Well, Road Loans popped up... I read a lot about it and decided to apply. I got a response saying I was approved for 600 down and up to $20,000.00 on a 2013-14 vehicle. I was excited, thinking to myself finally, my family and I got some help! Yes, my credit isn't perfect, so I was afraid that I would get turned down...

I called Road Loans to make sure it was true I was approved. I talked to a Loan Specialist and it was true, I was approved. Just had to take a few paycheck stubs, proof of resident, DL, SS, and insurance. I asked them where a good place I could go; they advised me to go to Carmax. I searched for a close one. It was San Antonio, TX. I called a salesman. Tom ** told him what was going on. He said awesome, bring your information and let's get you in a vehicle. On Oct. 26, 2013 I got a ride to San Antonio and had to take off of work to go. Trip cost me $165.00, paying my ride for gas, food for my family, etc... The truck we have is broke down right now, so it's not dependable at this point!

Anyway, the salesman takes all my information and takes my wife and I outside to look for a car that was in our budget Road Loans gave me. We found a 2012 Ford Taurus, very nice car, and low miles. We went for a test drive. We liked it and told each other this was the one. So we go inside, sit down in the little glass office, our salesman puts in my information, denied! I'm thinking there is a big problem obviously... The salesman is not happy either. He calls a sales manager and they take all my paperwork into his office and my wife and I are sitting there having an anxiety attack not knowing what was going on.

Well, our salesman comes back into the office and says I need to call Road Loans and change the dealer to Carmax, San Antonio. So, I called Road Loans, talked to another loan specialist, let them know about the change, and they even talked to my salesman. We found out the reason I got denied because I had to purchase a 2013 vehicle and the one I liked and wanted was a 2012. But when I talked to Road Loans when I got approved that particular loan specialist said it's possible it could be a vehicle under 2013. I figured it would be less expensive if I tried for a used vehicle under 2013 and my payments would be less as well. Couldn't do that. Had to go with 2013-14.

So, we went back outside and found a 2013 Chevy Impala, another very nice car, low miles, etc... went back in submitted with that vehicle, DENIED... At this point not only am I very upset, we been there already four hours, still no answer, problems, and wondering if we been told a lie! Salesman says, "Let me go talk to my sales manager again." We are still sitting there. He comes back and he has his sales manager with him, and they proceed to tell us "we're sorry". I called Road Loans back and basically the voucher you have stating yes you are approved for $600.00 down and up to $20,000.00 dollars on a vehicle is basically untrue. This voucher just means you are approved to submit an application to Road Loans and yes it does say you already been pre-approved because when I first submitted online I chose the option $600.00 down.

I have never ever heard in my life a person has to be pre-approved to submit an application at a car dealership, and I been a car salesman myself! I make decent money. I proved that by my check stubs. I can pay for a decent vehicle. Here I been told yes, then no, yes again, then no again.... I'm not only upset, but my family and I are still on foot with no vehicle. We are still having to ask for rides to and from work, and my wife has to walk our daughter down to the bus stop! How would you feel if you, the reader, were in my shoes. Not only would you feel let down, stressed out because you and your family are still on foot, you were lied to. I'm also going to report my situation to the BBB and whoever else I can. I really thought Road Loans would be there for me and be truthful with me, and they weren't.

He suggested I contact their legal department. Over the next week, I placed several calls to their legal department with no return call. Finally, I called RoadLoans back and spoke with another supervisor, who was also unable to locate an application. She said she would inquire about the delay in getting back to me. I finally received a call from their legal department and I spoke with T. **. Once again, no application could be located. She was as confused as I was.

I asked Ms. ** if she could please send a letter to Transunion requesting that the inquiry be removed. She flat out refused because she said that if there was no application on file, then they had no authorization to access my report and they cannot send out a form letter without an application. Coming from their legal department, I was appalled at that answer. If they can't send out a form letter in this situation, then under what circumstances do they send a form letter? I asked her this exact question and all she would tell me was that she couldn’t help unless there was an application on file. I then placed a call to Transunion and I spoke with a supervisor, who informed me that without a letter from the creditor, this inquiry cannot be removed. I have since left several messages for Ms. ** in addition to leaving messages on their legal department's general voicemail, but no one is returning my call.

I've done some research on these companies and I've found many complaints, three of which are from the Better Business Bureau, that are similar in nature to mine in terms of their questionable acts, horrible customer service and basic unwillingness to right their wrongs. Terms such as fraudulent, deceptive and bogus company were used to describe them. I don't know how RoadLoans got my information, but they clearly pulled my credit report in error or perhaps illegally, but either way it’s their responsibility to make it right. And it appears that they have no intentions of doing so. I have a high credit score and I've worked very hard over the last few years to get to this point, so why on earth would I do business with a company that targets people with bad credit? It's not fair that my credit score is going to be negatively affected because of a bogus, dishonest company.
