Do NOT use Optima Tax, they took $2000 from me and didn't even file my taxes. I have to file bankruptcy to help resolve my taxes. They charge way too much money. How do you call this help when they want thousands of dollars to resolve. Stay away and go with someone else

I gave them 4k in payments. So they can start my file and case. This was the total I was told that was going to take care of everything. Well they come about 2 months after the 4k was paid, asking for more money to freeze my account until they can work on it. I didn't have anything more to give. Had to re-submit again, after that never heard from them again. Just saying that they received my application again. They didn't do anything for me but took 4k away from me.

Scam!!!! This company will steal your money and you will be in worst shape before you contacted them. After they are done pretending they are contacting the IRS on your behalf!!! They took 3,500 of my money and the IRS told me that they never spoke to anyone from Optima Tax!! This company should be investigated and put out of business for good. They are playing with fire when it comes down to stealing people's hard earned money and it will come back to them in some form or fashion. THE WORST COMPANY I EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH!!

This has been a horrible experience. I can safely say they have horrible customer service. Once they have your money good luck getting any answers or help. You can never ask a question. They will tell you they’ll have someone call you within 24-48 hours but they mean business hours so it’s a good week before they call you and if you miss their call though you have to go through it all again. If they can’t help you with a request they simply don’t call you back. I finally got through today after trying for a month leaving numerous messages only to be told they won’t help with a letter to tell my employer they are helping me with my tax issues. Go anywhere else for tax help. Anywhere.

In 2021 I discovered I owed taxes to the IRS. I googled tax relief services and decided to give Optima a try and contracted with them for a sizeable fee. The fee for the service resulted in a payment plan with the IRS which I was told (by the IRS) I could have accomplished on my own. A year ago in another effort for tax relief I signed with another service (and another fee). This time with better results. A previous tax filing was incorrect and had to be resubmitted and eventually an OIC was submitted to the IRS for review. Neither of these issues were addressed by Optima. It's only after being able to compare the quality of service can I recommend that potential clients do some shopping around before contracting with Optima.

Failed to deliver on a single promise. Terrible communication and takes so long for absolutely nothing. While I was “protected” by Optima Tax my wages were levied because optima never even contacted the IRS. I set up a payment play with the IRS in 15 minutes. They had over a year. Don’t waste your money on these scam artists

Optima Tax Relief is a total scam. Run as fast as you can from them. They prey on your fear and ability to pay them. I paid them almost 15000 dollars and had one payment left and would not move forward because I can’t make the payment. I lost my job. I’m a senior citizen and this is how they treat people.

Completely robbed of 2300! Did not honor their side of the deal. I hired them to amend a tax return only to find out months later they do not provide this service! They offered me 100 as a refund which I declined. Keep your money people. This company lies and deceives and has no obligation to represent their clients in any way. Could have been honest upfront and told me they couldn’t help me but instead told me what I wanted to hear only to pull the rug out once they collected all my money. Literally paid 2300 for absolutely nothing.

This is the most terrible experience I have ever had. Once they have your money, they will not even allow you to set an appointment. Meanwhile, I have to contact the IRS on my own. I have had to resubmit all the documents to the IRS that I submitted to Optima because the IRS says they have nothing from Optima. Optima has caused me MORE STRESS than the IRS audit. Do NOT do it.

I am writing to formally decline your recent refund offer, as it is wholly inadequate and does not reflect the significant amount I paid for your services. Offering only a fraction of the $9,000 I entrusted to your company, despite failing to provide any meaningful assistance, is unacceptable. I expected your company to resolve my tax issues, but instead, my tax debt has increased due to additional penalties and late fees. A partial refund of $800 is simply not enough given the lack of service and the financial damage caused. Unless a full refund is issued promptly, I will be escalating this matter to the appropriate consumer protection agencies and media outlets to ensure others are aware of your deceptive practices.

I paid the initial $495 Investigation fee on Friday. I immediately had 2nd thoughts as Resolution phase was going to cost me over 6K. I paid the down payment fee of 2,039.00. I have requested a refund of the 2,039.00 within 24 hours. Optima informed me that my refund request would have to be presented to the Executive Review Board and the earliest that can happen is 10/8/24. The payment is still processing by my bank. I told them I would be reaching out to my bank. I was then informed that they would dispute the charge!!! I literally just paid them late Friday. This delay tactic is unacceptable. They didn’t waste any time taking that money out of my account. They have not earned a penny of that money. I’ve contacted my bank to dispute the charge.

I paid Optima $7,000 and they did NOTHING for me except cause me grief and anger. They PREY upon people who are down and NEED help and then literally kick you when you are down. They promise to help you and DO NOTHING!! They are a FRAUD and they are HORRIBLE people.

What a scam! It's unfortunate that these people prey on fear of the everyday citizen when it comes to the IRS. I ended up owing the IRS for the first time in my life and was scared. This company said they would be able to help and after giving them $1500.00 that I didn't have laying around they did absolutely nothing!!! They set me up with a payment plan that I could have done myself and could not afford. I asked them to submit an offer in compromise and they said the IRS refused it. I asked the reason, and they said that the IRS gave them no reason which was a LIE!! The IRS has checked at least 2 times and have never been submitted an offer in compromise on my behalf and, moreover would let you know the reason for rejection. STAY AWAY!!

Wow, after reading the reviews before mine, I wish I had done that before I engaged in an 8-month ordeal with them. Optima has taken enough of my money to date for very poor service including scheduling an "appointment" today with an alleged "case manager" for 1 pm only I didn't get a call until 1:47 pm and when I answered it had been "robodialed" instructing me to press 1 and then "wait for the next avail...".

After 2 and a half years, they’ve agreed to give me half my money back.

The one star I gave was me being generous. I went to Optima hoping they would help me with my tax debt. I explained my unique situation and they said they have a team that explores all available options. The only time they called me was when it was time to collect a $2,000 monthly payment. After calling them numerous times for assistance, someone finally called me and the only option they offered was to pay it all back in monthly installments. I paid Optima over 10K for them to give me an option to pay off my full amount in monthly installments. They said my only option was to either take that deal or pay it all off myself. It's such a low budget company. Absolutely disgusting!!!

I came to Optima to address my tax problem. They did the first inspection of my tax issue with IRS. They used that info to charge me a extreme high fee for services. I have tried to work with them on good faith. They are currently giving me the runaround. Looking a company to help with your tax issue. I would NOT RECOMMEND. Optima Tax Relief ever.

Optima Tax Relief is a sham! They did absolutely nothing I couldn't have done myself with the IRS. I paid them good money (money I could have paid to the IRS) to negotiate back taxes, penalties, and interest and got absolutely none of these reduced!!! They overpromised and totally underdelivered. What a waste of my money and time.

Optima Tax Relief engages in high sales pressure tactics by offering false hope to people who are dealing with tax issues. They take actions without consulting you, drag on the resolution process until you pay their exorbitant fees and then they tell you that they can not lower your tax rate but they can set you up with a payment plan to the IRS. DO NOT USE THEM as they will put you further in debt. They make promises they can’t keep, they are worse than a politician!!

I lost my funds to them thinking they were going to help me out, they kept on requesting for extra funds before it could be processed, in the end, I lost all my money. All efforts to reach out to their customer support desk had declined, I found it very hard to move on. God so kind I followed a broadcast that teaches on how scammed victims can recover their fund through the help of expertapexrefund org a firm, I contacted his email provided for consultation, I got feedback after some hours and I was asked to provide all legal details concerning my investment, I did exactly what they instructed me to do without delay, to my greatest surprise I was able to recover my money back including my profit which my capital generated. I said I will not hold this to myself but share it to the public so that all scammed victims can get their funds back.

Optima Ripped this disabled Veteran Off $7,000. They did Nothing in 3 years! SCAM!!! We hired and paid them in 2020 and they have done anything but do a POA. It's now 07/2024 and we're in the exact same place we were in as 2020. They haven't kept up to date on our current taxes. Just a mess!

Search engines show them as "the best" because they've paid for their online reputation. In reality, it's a pretty terrible service--a tax mill with inefficient, inconvenient processes. As a busy professional, I spent over 4K for them to address my tax issues, file the documents, and work out a payment plan. I sent them all the documentation they asked for in a timely manner.

I wish that I had read these reviews before I signed up. Every negative review has been reflective of my experience. Save your time and money by just calling the IRS yourself. I don't even have the heart to fight for a refund. $5000 gone.

Optima Tax Relief is a SCAM. They over promised their abilities, Lack of communication, Excessive Fees and a constant run around when you do speak to a live person. They DO NOT gather any data from the IRS other than what you supply them. They take that data and enter that into their system to appear to investigate or help with an audit, when in fact there is NOT anyone qualified at Optima Tax Relief to do an audit or know what status your case is unless YOU INFORM THEM BY WAY OF YOUR OWN COMMUNICATION WITH THE IRS. Optima Tax Relief does NOT ever communicate with the IRS on your behalf. They have structured their corrupt business practices in such a way that appears legit but is very much a FRAUD!

We started with Optima Tax back in November of 2022. We reached out to them asking if they were able to help us with our 940's for federal. They stated yes but it was going to cost $22,000.00 to do so. We paid our first payment on 11-17-2022. We finished paying them on 8-17-2023. Since we paid them in full in the amount of $22,000.00, we have not heard anything from them. When I would call, they would ask to send them the last 3 months of pay stubs. I have tried numerous times to ask for the resolution from the IRS but no response.

Complete scam of a company. We initially paid them 500 to start their investigation. When they followed up a couple of weeks later I told the “agent “ I was working with we decided to go with someone else because Optima wanted 3000.00 to basically see up a payment plan. I can do that myself and not be 3000 in the hole. Anyway when I told the agent that he hung up on me. Really? I paid 500 and you hang up on me when you hear we are going with someone else? Complete scam of a company. Beware.

Optima Tax is a scam. I am currently going the below allegations from their Lawsuit and they refuse to cancel my account and refund me my money. The class action lawsuit against Optima Tax Relief addresses allegations of unfulfilled promises, misleading information, excessive fees, lack of communication, and unauthorized actions on behalf of clients. The plaintiffs are seeking various forms of relief, including restitution, injunctions, and damages

Don't call Optima. As a matter of fact don't call any of these so call tax relief before you call the IRS yourself. They will take your your money....even if it's the so call up front fee. You'll be able to make a better deal with the IRS yourself. The IRS told me that I owed them $25,000 and they have program to help you. Right after I hung up the phone with them my so call Optima rep called me say I owe the IRS $60,000 and for $9,000 they could help me. I had paid them $295 to do something that I could have done myself. Optima uses gear tactics and sweet sounding agents to get you. I'm from Philly. They are all the way in California so once they get you they know you're not coming all the way on the west coast to do anything about. The IRS told me that they can't do any more than you can do for yourself.

I provided them with all the information that they ask for and they did nothing. They took my money and did nothing. Every you call you will speak with a new person. I need my money back 3000.00 and some change. You never spoke with the same person. Maybe they did more for others. My experience was very bad. Will never use them again if I ever should need a tax relief service again. I am in a worse shape than I was.

Run, don't answer the phone, don't view their website, ignore the YouTube Videos, disregard the advertisements, bypass the paid reviews, don't believe the hype...if this warning is ignored, it will ultimately lead to your own demise. No, this is not an exaggeration or drama. Everything I am saying is factual and can be supported with documentation.

As of August it's been 5 years!! Nothing done yet... they are trying to force me to pay 150.00 a month for something I filed identity theft on, taxes that are not mine! Still waiting for the end and nothing has been corrected or done let alone can't get your file straight before they even try to get a hold of you...

Beware of this company. I initiated services with them on 11/22/2023 and had the investigation stage started for a fee of $295. I never received any copies of documents that I had signed in this initial phase, red flag number one. I was sent a text message for a set appointment time of 10am. On 12/08/2023 this appointment was a no show and after 45 min of trying to reach the customer service person named Armondo he informed me I was to confirm the appointment, I then explained to him that no where in the text did it require this he had zero knowledge of the contents of the body of the text, red flag number two. The appointment date was AFTER the 15 day money back guarantee very convenient, red flag number three. I agreed to listen to his proposal for my situation and he informed me it would be $4000, keep in mind I was previously quoted a percentage of what I owed and this amount turned out to be double, red flag number four.

This company is the biggest scam. I paid this company $2900 to not do anything with my case but build up interest and offer unrealistic resolutions. Save yourself time and money and do not go with this company. I will tell you what their services provide. For $299 they will tell you how much you owe the IRS, this is something I already knew but they felt the need to bill me for the information. They then billed me $2600 to find a resolution. This resolution took them 10 months, and, in the end, it was me calling them that got answers.

I paid 16k for debt resolution... What I got was that they acted as a power of attorney.... No updates.... I'm sorry to say when you call the (800) number you will feel like you're in third world country repeating yourself asking them what they are saying.... Bottom line you want to lose your money and still have IRS tax debt...perfect place to go.... I wouldn't send my worse enemy there.... YOU GUYS ARE THE WORST... And living in the DC area we are petitioning a law suit how you target people of color!!!!

I was in debt to the IRS by over $100,000...Optima Tax Relief negotiated 1/10th that amount to get me free from the IRS! After the Optima fees it was 20% of what I owed! I am so grateful to Optima Tax Relief for their help as I was under so much stress with the IRS keeping my tax refunds and adding interest so quickly...Thank you, Optima Tax Relief!!!

Pleased be aware of the scam that this company is providing to the public. I have lost a lot of money dealing with this fake company. I will recommend them to anyone not even my dog. All they will do is charge you I mean laterally charge until you are broke, and your case is not solved you will still end up owing the IRS a lot more than you owe because they are not reporting your information to the IRS. People, please listen to me. Just make a payment plan with IRS instead you will be safe with them period.

I wish I could give negative stars. I’ve been in their system for almost 4 years after paying them $13,000 and have absolutely nothing to show for it except them doing a few years of returns. I’ve chased my case and have been bounced from person to person because they cannot retain people. I actually settled my case with the IRS myself and asked for a refund. They offered me $650…..you can’t get a hold of anyone and I’ve retained a lawyer to go after them to get my original costs and more back. I will update when it’s finally over. This company is by far the worst company I’ve ever dealt with in my adult life.

Initial consultation ended with expected max service fee of $1500. Went ahead and paid the "investigation fee" to get ball rolling. One week later, was told my tax liability was almost $34000 which is crazy. My service fee was now $7500. I wish I would have walked then because I couldn't get answers. Stall, stall, stall is all they do while your auto payments keep getting drafted. I have asked so many times for evidence of work they have performed, status of my case, proof of my tax liability, and I can get nothing. Very frustrating. I think they are stretching me along to get more of my money.

Called and spoke with representative that sounded like he could really not be bothered. Sent my account transcript and never heard back. Guess I should be happy I didn't send any money. Don't waste your time with this company.

Optima is not a scam. They will assist you with your dealings with the IRS. However, the experience was not very satisfactory, and they pretty much did little more than prepare a few tax returns. There was no negotiation with the IRS about penalties; they simply sent me a form and told me to submit it after I pay. They did not complete the work within the time frame they themselves gave me. The accountant, Ann, "forgot" our appointment to prepare taxes, and I had to call the company and get them to reach her. They promised to negotiate, but were vague on specifics and no negotiations were conducted. My team leader told me to call him any time I had a question, and I could never reach the guy on the phone. I had to nag them over and over for months to finish the job.

I gave these guys 4200.00 a year and a half ago! Today they told me they didn’t get one cent of my billl taken off! Not a penalty or interest! I have a lien the same lien as when they started! Not one thing changed besides me losing 4200.00 to their scam! Buyer beware! They are the worst!

My case is ongoing for 2 years. Phone call are a waste of time. I explain that I prefer email as phone call go to spam. That request is not honored and lead to a frustrated client trying to get updates. When I call in they tell me they are waiting for documents, however as I have explained numerous time the customer portal doe not say they are needing documents and have taken screenshot pictures of the customer portal showing no documents required. Last to phone call they promise to email the documents yet they never show up. Today I told them I would stay on the phone until I got the document in my in box and he actually did that for me however It was for a business and not for my personal account. There is a huge problem with the way they communicate the needs of your case to you. I paid them upfront for the service and it has been a terrible experience with terrible explanation and communication.

Bottom line is Optima doesn't have any "tax experts"- they don't fight for you, there is no team.. They stall for a year- do your next year's taxes- hope some money shakes out and if it doesn't they set up a payment plan with the IRS that anybody could do. The positive reviews only outweigh the negative because they offer dissatisfied customers $350 to sign an agreement they can't write anything negative about the company. I spent 3k to Optima and with the penalties and interest due to them stalling I ended up owing roughly 2k more to the IRS than when I contacted Optima. You can read the fake positive reviews but look at the negative reviews-- they all say the exact same thing.

Paid over $8000.00. They eventually told me after I paid all my money "Some people we help & some people we can't help." They eventually drop me as a client when I refused a $975 payment plan a month. For years? Next 5 to 7 years. They allowed the IRS to run my taxes up from a small amount owed to over $35,000. No offer in compromise or tax relief offer was possible. I am a senior citizen & this is the horror I face for trusting these scammers. They offered me $900.00 in settlement for their poor service. I told them, "Keep the money. I'll seek legal actions first." Their final comments were. "Ok when we hear from the other parties you referring to. Then we will address their concerns, & requested responses at that date & time when ever they inquire." "However, for now we no longer consider you as a client with Optima."

BUYER BEWARE. TAX PAYER BEWARE. Optima Tax told me "we don't know whether we'll be able to negotiate a settlement for you or not...." BUT, they DID know. They knew that I'd recently married someone whose income made me ineligible for any reduction whatsoever; yet they charged me $8,000 before they told me that.

Paid $24K and for two years Optima Tax Relief could not even establish some communication with IRS. My bookkeeper eventually established communication, made deal with IRS and resolved problem. Optima Tax Relief is a scam!!!

Just got off the phone with them and I was told I would have to pay the full amount of what I owed from the original start of this process. It has taken me $10,000 and 1-1/2 years to resolve this. All the while the IRS was adding on late fees and anything else they could think of over that time period. Optima was told upfront what I make for salary and yet said nothing until the last day. They told me I made too much to get any relief from the IRS. I could have used an online tax service for $500 and a month of time to complete. Basically, they will take your money and do absolutely nothing but to tell you to have patience while the IRS is running up your bill. In my opinion this is a scam company.

When you use Optima you are just throwing your money away. You call them, you get no answers. The money you pay them you could send to the IRS. I spoke with a IRS representative on the phone. They are easy to talk with, very polite and she told me people that use tax relief agencies are just throwing money away. The IRS does not negotiate back taxes. You owe what you owe. I did get a one year abatement on penalties from the agent over the phone. Call them first to work out a plan. Don't throw money away using optima.

The cost of Optima tax is over 1200.00 per month plus the settlement being proposed is another 4700.00 dollars! I will be homeless in about a month! It would have been cheaper to deal with the IRS directly. Do not use Optima!!!

Around March 2018 I started working with Optima to resolve my tax issue. I would advise you avoid them as they are unhelpful, uncaring, and only concerned with your money. First they charge you an absurd amount of money for services that you can do for free. Second, they are impossible to get a hold of, until you miss a monthly payment or want to pay them to perform another service. And last those extra services you pay for, in my case, they were never performed. I asked Optima to apply tax forgiveness and an offer in kind and paid $495 each time. Only to contact the IRS and find out no one ever filed on my behalf. So after hearing this I called and demanded a refund. I paid around $4500 over the course of 4 years working with them and offered me an amazing $350 refund, which is laughable. And the latest insult is now they won't release the refund until I remove a negative review which is very illegal in California.

I owe lots of money to the IRS and I went to Optima to help me resolve some of this hoping for some kind of reduction!! But nothing!! I ended up owing more after almost 3-4 years processing. Due to the pandemic it took longer!! I paid them 4k for these services...I basically ended up in a 850.00 never ending monthly payment plan. I'm feeling defeated at this point like there's no end in sight for me!!

This company has no business integrity or accountability; it is a waste of time consulting this firm, consequently, the interest on your debt with the IRS continues to grow...DON'T DO IT!!! It has been almost 2yrs I consulted the service of this company and made all the payments: almost $4k in total including consultation fee of $495, yet NO RESOLUTION! I barely get any case update or feedback from them, but constant request for bank statements which is very annoying. I certainly will not recommend Optima Tax Relief to anyone...No doubt, taking this route was one of my BIGGEST MISTAKEs!

For 3 years I have been on pins and needles waiting on a positive outcome for my tax issues with the IRS. I end up having to pay more to the IRS. This was a waste of my time and money. When calling you are put on hold for a long time and calls are not returned. I would have been better off talking to the IRS myself.

Optima Tax charged me $8140 in December 2021 and did absolutely nothing until I was issued a levy letter in August 2022. I received multiple letters over the time frame about representation being established with the IRS, progression of the case, taxes being prepared, etc. to be told by the Optima RO team those messages were system generated and nothing had been done on my case since full payment in December. There was a rapid attempt to get involved at that point. I moved forward with the IRS on my own so I would not lose everything I have. I had to have another company file my taxes etc.

Signed up with this den of thieves 11/07/19 to fix my tax problems. Sent in all required paperwork, initial fee $595.00 and $10,000. So after 1 year and 10 months 2 tax returns, 2 extensions were completed with a installment plan amounting to $895/month. What a joke! What kind of help is this? You can call the IRS and set that up yourself. Since they did not resolve my case to my satisfaction. I FIRED THEM!! This sorry excuse of a tax resolution company will not refund my money. They will want their fees upfront. Suggestion: Get on a monthly payment plan so if they do not resolve your case you can cut your losses. BEST SOLUTION: DO NOT USE THESE GREEDY PIGS AT ALL!!

I have requested their services about a year ago, to help to reduce or alleviate my current tax debt. Even after paying them $4,680.00 for their services, which could of been better used to pay down my IRS debt instead. As of the date of this review, I have not received any good results in my favor. I am being requested that I upload a completed 433-d form which I did so I can start paying $200 a month which is exactly what I was doing prior to contacting Optima Tax relief in the first place.

I would steer clear of this company. My experience with them started in August of 2021. I uploaded all my tax transcripts, and financial documents. This initial review cost $295.00. No big deal. The IRS was threatening to garnish my wages. I did not get any movement on my case until the week the IRS stated they would enforce collections. This took me contacting Optima, to get some movement. They then charged me $9995.00 to move to a resolution phase. I did not hear from them again until January of 2022. I entered an installment agreement. Which cost me a $225,00 feel (IRS). I paid the agreement early each month. Then the IRS stated I defaulted on my agreement, by not paying my 2021 taxes on time. I presented evidence from my bank, and from my IRS transcripts, that I did pay it on time. April 18, 2022.

DON'T DO IT. Optima was attentive and present with us until we paid the required legal fees. Then they basically ghosted us unless we contacted them. Many times we did not even get a callback or response on our inquiries. We were told we were being protected from any I.R.S. threats or levies for nearly 2 years but never given a status on what or was not being done or negotiated on our behalf. We continued to receive and uploaded to Optima threatening notices and documents we were getting from the I.R.S. It was as if we were not being represented by Optima.

I paid a lot of money to have Optima Tax Relief help me settle my debt with IRS. They did my taxes. I had an email account closed on my that had all the information for them. I called several times, emailed a few times and was asked to give a time when an agent would call. I did that but, they either did not call or they called at another time when I could not talk to them. I talked to several people there but, I believe I just got the run around. I lost a lot of money to them.

Be careful with these guys. I am a service comnected disabled female veteran and this is NOT OK! Their responsiveness and communication is great until you make your final payment to start the resolution process then boom! Crickets. I've filed a BBB complaint about these folks and am trying to battle finalizing my tax issue with the IRS myself, even though I paid them $1500 and absolutely NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER. Jennifer ** should be ashamed of herself for handling a client like this. I have multiple notices from the IRS and have no way of even getting an update from anyone with this company on what I'm supposed to do or not do. After making numerous phone calls I finally got someone on the phone who tells me I was reassigned to a Devin **. He is also "unavailable" just like Jennifer **. This is completely unacceptable.

I am writing this review as a warning to all possible future clients of Optima Tax Relief. This is all the stuff they will not tell you. They prey upon you because you're in a bad spot and you want to be protected from the IRS. Let me tell you what my experience was with this company. They say they have a 2-phase process; it really has three phrases. The 1st phase is to collect your money for themselves. So, in my case I owed the IRS quite a bit of money, over 100k. They offered to take my case for around 10k, which I had to finance. I filled out a power of attorney for them to represent me with the IRS. Then nothing happened with my case until I had paid the full amount. Which took about 14 months to pay.

You can't reach a human unless they are collecting your money. The robo calls were awful. I basically had to do all of the other years of unfiled taxes myself. They never contacted the IRS on my behalf. They never fulfilled any of their obligations to me and refused to refund the $1500 I had already paid them. They offered me $300 as a courtesy. As if!

I waited a couple of weeks to write this, as I was so angry (and still am) about this entire process. I had one year of a tax filing that needed to be explained, and it took them 9 months to tell me that they basically couldn't do anything but get me a payment plan. I paid them almost $7,000 for this service, plus, I get to pay all the penalties and interest that accumulated while they dragged their feet. Oh yes, the IRS continued to add interest to my account while we waited on Optima. I've not read anyone paying what I paid, and guaranteed, I could have gotten this deal myself. It is nothing but a payment plan. They don't negotiate your penalties and interest. You have to fill out a form and do that yourself. They don't offer any suggestions or help with this at all.

Be very leery of any service that requires full payment up front. I did not have a good experience and I lost thousands of dollars with no results to show for it. I finally had to pay more money for a tax attorney.

They will promise the moon and the stars to get you to sign. I would love to give 0 stars! Our experience was TERRIBLE! They will charge you thousands of dollars and not do any real work. Our personal experience and the experience of many others, as found on the Better Business Bureau website is that they will never do any work. We have been with them for over a year and they have not made any progress or reduced any penalties and the payment plan that we set up ourselves with the IRS, is still the same payment plan. They stated that they would file the current taxes and that was a year ago. Of course, they never filed the taxes.

I contacted Optima Tax Relief for assistance with correcting a problem with the IRS. They listen to my problem and assured me they could help correct it. I believed them because their advertisements guarantee they will fix your problem or refund your money. That was lie. They took my money and just reviewed all the documents I sent to them. The only time I heard from them was when I called. They never call or send emails. You have to contact them for updates and then you get excuses about your case. I waited almost a year for them to tell me "Well it looks like we cannot do anything to fix your problem, so the best for you is to pay the IRS the money back." Almost $3,000 just for that. They are not an accredited company. They don't even call or contact the IRS for you. If you want a refund, they will give you back a small portion just try and please you. They have false advertisements that say they are the best. They are the worst.

I contacted Optima Tax Relief on or about October 2020 and spoke to a representative named Nik who made me false promises and talked me into giving them over 90% of my SSI per month for 7 months to help me with an IRS problem. I then had MAJOR issues getting assistance or help and never heard from Nik again. I was later put in touch with Leah who said my case had been passed to someone else who supposedly "left me a message". I asked to cancel my services because I did not get the assistance I was promised. I was told that I could cancel but I would only get back around $1200 but I paid them over $2000. I was told they could not help me unless I was available all the time by phone but Nik said emails were fine since I am disabled.

Optima put me in a very difficult situation. I engaged in an agreement with them to support me in a tax situation and file amended tax returns for 3 years. My taxes had been filed as income (37%) and not long-term capital gains (15%) from a sale of a business which created a large amount owed. In working with Optima, they updated my returns and they were signed by my wife and myself to file on our behalf. I have emails to support this communication with Optima. Three years later I received a notice from the IRS stating I owed a large amount with penalties attached. I contacted Optima and again received confirmation, via email and phone, that the returns had been filed. I then contacted the IRS and I was told they had not been filed. I contacted Optima with this information and they retracted their original statement that they we indeed filed. They issued me a full refund.

I contracted with Optima tax relief and made the initial down payment and two monthly payments and then COVID hit. I explained to them I was very limited in working and I could afford lower payments. They were kind enough to give some months without payments until my situation improved. I had paid over 2500 into this company already, for what? I asked several times what they did for $2500 besides maybe sending the IRS a letter starting to work out my situation. The customer RETENTION Dept called me which is a joke...because there is no retention at all telling me in Oct they were going to cancel my account and the IRS would move forward in collecting back taxes.

I cannot warn you enough to stay away from Optima Tax Relief (OTR) as a tax resolution service provider. There are other (better) choices out there... I suggest you engage a company closer to where you are located instead of engaging OTR in California. My "resolution" took well over two (2) years to complete and only then did it get finalized through my direct intervention and taking control back from their inept staff who only acted as a postbox between myself and the IRS.

This organization is a scam. They are completely and utterly inept at managing detailed tax returns. Their ultimate goal is to leave you hanging until every dime is squeezed out of your bank account. Optima can only handle those types of returns that utilize BASIC formats. You remember, the same forms you alone could easily complete to account for part time employment during your high school and/or college years! I am so happy I caught on to their thievery!!!

The IRS cooperated but initiated incorrect agreements via the process. The case manager was able to resolve and establish the correct agreement, with manageable costs. We contracted with Optima Tax Relief based on all the positive reviews. It cost us over $7500, not the $4500 stated on their website. I supplied copies of all the receipts, invoices etc. for the schedule C's. I had to resend all the documentation twice! Received a call from a lady named Ruby, asking me if I can reduce my overall legal fees claimed, in spite of providing substantiation. I replied that she is asking me to lie, the expenses are true and correct. She was going to speak with her supervisor and get back to me. 6 months later, I still haven't heard back from her.
