My loan was due yesterday, my pension was not deposited into my account. I went there first thing yesterday morning to explain; they said it will go to my bank. I then stopped payment at my bank, under 2 different names they go by. Then, my pension mysteriously showed up late last night. My worker called it an electronic glitch. Well, I went to Money Mart first thing this morning to pay, and they wanted to charge me an additional $40 for being late. As a senior, I can't afford this kind of profiteering by a company whose policies are uncaring, unsympathetic, and downright rude! I am going to pay them back $50.00 per month for 10 months without interest; otherwise, I am suing them for unfair and exploitive business practices. I am sure others have been similarly abused!

I took out an online payday loan and I made my payment and they said I didn't. It took them 2 weeks to fix the error. I had to send them copies of my bank statement multiple times because they "lost" it. Come to find out that the problem was that they were having technical difficulties. But during the whole two weeks no one would reply to my email or live chats and the phone agent was rude.
Yet, I decided to give them another chance and took out another loan but it wasn't deposited in my account when it was supposed to be so I decided to cancel it. But the cancel option wasn't there even though it should have been there until 5 pm that day after the money was credited to my account. I messaged someone about it before the deadline but got no reply but finally, someone replies after the deadline but not to me. To another agent and the agent never contacted me. I had to call to find out what was going on. Now I am on the hook for the whole loan for a glitch in their system. They say it is my problem and all I can do is provide feedback to the feedback department. Like I trust that they might just lose the feedback.

I belive my identity has been stolen by this company. I provided all my information as asked by Melvon **. After giving all my information, I realized that this was a scam. I didn't authorize him to do anything with my account. He took it upon himself to use my information deposit money into my account overdrafted and proceeded to put a hold on my account until the 13th in order to steal the money back. This company commits fraud and steals from their patrons. Beware. Do not use this company for any personal loan payday loan or reasons at all. I got a pay day loan from Money Mart and the December 7th is the last payment to come out, today is the December 1. I had one payment NSF because I haven't been paid. Employer went out of business. He owes me $3600 and it's through their trustee that I am waiting to be paid. After the NSF I scheduled the replacement payment for the last week, but pay pas has still not been released so that NSF'd and each time the bank charges me a $45 fee plus Money Mart charges one.
I CANNOT GIVE THEM AN ANSWER IF I DON'T KNOW. I have a new job and won't get pay for two weeks and the cheque is already spent. I can pay one of the Money Mart amounts, but I have to get my phone turned back on and the second cheque (or when I get my $3600) everything was to be paid up. So imagine my ** surprise today when I check to make sure there was enough with rent and fees as my parents had sent what they could and I see a $200 Money Mart payment had come out of my account! My rent cheque will now bounce and I will be charged $45 from the bank and $50 from my landlord plus $15 for each day my rent is late.
I am beyond disgusted that Money Mart has done this. To be so sleazy as to try and snag someones rent money for a loan that isn't due for another week!!! Well Money Mart, the account has now been closed. So their collections department is going to need to provide me with an alternative way to pay because I will NEVER give them my bank information again. In the 7 years I have used Money Mart I have never had an issue, but I will never get a loan with them again. The interest here in Alberta Canada is 15%, I'll use my 19% credit card instead. At least if the payment is a week late, I won't be left in a position to become HOMELESS!!!

There was a few things I needed to get done. Inquire about a loan, use Western Union, and purchase a cashier's check. The clerk at the counter Alfred **, made my experience wonderful. It was towards the end of the night and the store was closing. Luckily, Alfred let me in. He was extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and very professional. Actually, his customer service was near impeccable. I would return and encourage my friends and family to go there as well. Thank you Money Mart for such a great experience and meeting my needs.

I agreed to go into a financial arrangement with Money Mart in July 2017. I used to use payday loans years prior when I lived in the city. Everything went smooth except the counter agent did not use the void cheque attached to my loan documents, she used an old inactive account that was in my old records from when I lived in the city. As a result, my first payment was rejected. I noticed immediately and called them and went in to fix the problem. Then a collection agent phoned me threatening me to go pay. Though I explained to him what happened he still barked orders at me then hung up on me. Apparently, you can not make loan payments in person, you HAVE to let the payment return then pay when in arrears along with an additional fee for having gone in arrears.
NEXT, Earlier this year I paid out my entire installment loan at the Money Mart in Terrace BC. The counter agent told me that since I was paying it out close to my next scheduled pre-authorized payment, that payment might be left out of the balance paid. I went back into Money Mart one week and then two weeks after to pay if there was an outstanding amount owing. She said "I guess not, it isn't showing up." Then I was relieved to no longer have to worry about these payment.
Prior to this, I had my bank accounts siezed by CRA, I battled them as they processed my 2009 Tax installment but did not apply it to my account with them. Because they failed to apply it, I was forced to pay a large payment only to have it returned 6 weeks later. But because they froze my account my payments were disrupted. I wanted to pay in person at Money Mart because of this but they said I could not. I had to wait to be in arrears then pay. Not Fair. On top of this nightmare, RBC screwed up my CRA payment and even though CRA cleared my debt account with them, they did not follow procedure to release my bank accounts. RBC paid me back what was charged extra because of their error.
Now, out of nowhere, one of Money Mart's collection agents, phoned me early Saturday morning (June 23, 2018) and spoke to me in a very hostile tone, not letting me say one word, began rambling off numbers, I had no idea what he/she was talking about. (Voice was kind of deep but when he/she YELLED at me to let him/her finish rambling numbers, kind of sounded feminine). I don't appreciate angry people calling and yelling at me without first identifying themselves and clarifying if I am aware of why they are calling. If I have an outstanding amount owing, I have asked them to PLEASE email me the statement now.
They have NOT once reached out to me prior to this incident. So, I agreed to pay them back my loan amount $2000 PLUS their interest amount of approx $650. Wouldn't you think that me paying them this amount of money would warrant some respect? Unless they assume taking high interest loans mean I have crappy credit which, to them, only means I am a loser and should be treated as such. I will never take these high interest loans ever again, I am especially going to avoid Money Mart because of their attitude towards their customers.

I had been a customer of Money Mart for a few years - which would implies that have very, VERY rarely had any payment issues (I think I can only recall two instances). Recently, I was suddenly forced into a financial situation that I did my best to handle on my own, but could not. I tried to find a solution on my own to pay back the loan I have, but was not able to. I reached out for professional help (debt settlement). Money Mart was sent the proposal twice and did not respond (did not decline or accept). I am getting multiple phone calls from various phone numbers several times a day EVERY DAY. Due to the fact that they have been informed about the settlement, I don't find the need to speak to anyone.
If they decline the proposal, they can contact my account administrator who will then inform me and THEN I will deal with them personally. However, at this time, I am unable to resolve this on my own. If I could, I most certainly would! Since the letters were sent to the head office, I'm going to assume no one communicated this information to the local branches who keep calling me. Besides, after reading about how rude the CSRs can get; I don't want my temper to flair. Someone will be torn an new ** and it won't be me. Customer service in the store was always friendly and professional; no issues there. The application process was always easy; no issues there. I wish they were a bit more flexible with payment options so that people could make more affordable payments, but it is what it is.

I tried to get a money order, but the cashier said that she needed my employment information. I informed her that I did not want to give her that. She then told me that she would not let me get a money order unless I gave her that information. I then told her that I am unemployed, she asked for work history and I told her I have never worked. She then said she needed to take a photo of me? Damn ridiculous, I can see needing to verify employment if I was getting a payday loan, but I was getting money orders, and I was gonna pay $1,500 in cash for it. But too bad, I wound up going to 7-11 to get my money orders, they didn't ask me no questions and I'm sure they were more than happy to get $1,500 from one customer. This was the Money Mart located at the Pearl Kai shopping area in Aiea, HI, and this happened on 12/30/2018 around 2 pm.

I have been a client with Instacheque/Money Mart in Montreal, QC for 16 years, which ended today! I went to the Instacheque on Queen Mary/Decarie, the questions I was asked were intrusive to say the least: What is my relation to sender of money, am I a Canadian Citizen/Landed Immigrant, what is the money for that I am receiving, is it a loan or a gift? I swear I halfway expected the woman to hand me a cup for a pee sample or lean through the window and draw some blood from me! Called 1-855-627-8801 # for complaints, nada, crickets chirping, supervisor informs me that it is at the cashier's discretion whether she wants to cash money orders or not!
The one saving grace was that three other people were refused as well, shlepped back to my area where another Instacheque gave me the money owing via Western Union Transfer, and the staff there were fantastic, courteous and understanding (Cote des Neiges branch). Will never use their services again, regardless, it's a Monty Python skit down there for how surreal all this was! I expected the Just for Laughs crew to show up from behind the counter saying it was just a joke, or for John Cleese to start doing his funny dances routine and start goose stepping! Legalized extortion is the only way to describe it, they put Al Capone away for less!

Well yesterday they had taken money out of my account... money that is meant to be used for my kids as it was my child benefits cheque. Very upset about this. Any ideas what I could do?

I would give them -100 star. Their service suck at every level. They have been holding a payment I made and are blaming it on the merchant. After I manage to put enough pressure on them to do something, they "gave me" "2 options": one would be to send some forms back to themselves to get them refunding my money back into my account in order to repeat the transaction which had been previously been successful. The other option was basically giving my money back and cancelling my order. I had to call customer service several times and they charged me every time for each call on top of that, even beyond, they did not picked up my call and had me waiting for almost 2h trying to get a hold from them throughout 2 exhausting long calls.
Their website just work a 0 out of a 1-10 scale: the menu items just don't work, basically mega inefficient website. After I got into a live chat, the chat rep was taking forever to see my messages, said he would email me the forms, hung off the chat and did not actually send the forms. I had to restart a new chat with him. I asked him if he sent the forms and he actually had to ask for my email all over again. I mean... did he actually had the intention of doing it? I had to put pressure on him to do it. Money Mart is really efficient at charging their fees but suck at anything you need them for.

I have been dealing with this company for over two years now... I have always had such great service, and customer care. Well this new year, I don't know if they completely dropped their standards on how they treat their customers, or just lack knowledge in how to hire the right kind of people but they are nothing but completely unprofessional and rude. First of all, no one in their 'customer care/service' line has a damn clue what they're doing or how to properly treat their customers. Their response is simply "You can file a complaint."
So I took them up on that offer and was told that I would be contacted within 2-3 business days... That was almost a month ago, and I still have not heard anything from them. No apology, NOTHING! I had to take my time again and go back to them to only have a different department solve my issue. It is astonishing and completely mind blowing how unprofessional this company is. How do you even have customers? Many of the employees need to be re-trained and learn how to properly treat their customers. I will NEVER deal with this company again.

Have been an excellent customer for 2 1/2 yrs. Told that they have pawning program. Never heard of such thing but thought this was very innovative and proactive. Pawned items & always made sure to retrieve my gold within 3 months of pawning the items. Last time (in August) I came to pay and get my gold back - had 2 bracelets (1 worth over 1500.00 - they only gave me 200 something for that), a necklace, 2 crosses and 2 rings.. I received all items not realizing I also paid for a bag of earrings I also had at Money Mart. All these earrings are worth more than $1000.00. Anyways paid for everything. Didn't know I didn't get all my items (especially earrings which were given to my daughter by my deceased mother). Money Mart contacted me telling me I have another person's items. They told me look. I do not have anything not belonging to me, nor am I a person if given something which is not mine to keep.
I spoke w/ 4 different individuals from Money Mart regarding the situation. Not once did I get an apology, but only I had been degraded, yelled at and accused of having items which do not belong to me. I was cordial and said directly I do not have someone else's items and they actually yelled/accused me of stealing and pawning items I have never seen. To add more insult they refuse to give me my gold back. I've been an excellent customer and they do not apologize for treating me like ** and insist to try to intimidate me to justify their not giving me my items back.

I have been cashing a pension check at Money Mart for many years. On July 31, 2015 they charged me 10% to cash the check. I asked about it and was told the fees were going up. 10% is outrageous. And is it even legal in Calif. to charge that much? I got online to file a complaint. It never would go. When I pressed Submit Complaint, it would not submit. So I went to Live chat. The Live chat lady told me to call the store for the rates. I asked what the company norm was? Still no answer about the fees. After supplying the company with all documentation listed on their website and verified by staff at the store, I was asked to return several hours later to pick up my refund. When I arrived I was told that I need my child custody agreement. It was never posted on the site and not asked by an agent. After claiming my children for several years, I asked why. They said it was company policy because single fathers are audited more frequently. They would be held liable for refunds that are owed. Back to the government.
I am not entitled to claim child tax unless I'm the primary caregiver and even though I provided the documentation that I receive the benefit. I call the policy discriminatory and false advertising. It was not required yet when I'm in the final stages of the return, they come up with this. They didn't even go have the courtesy to phone and notify me. I live out of the city. I have now written to the head office, the CEO and CFO requesting same and if no response will file a notice of claim in the court. I fully expect no response and will pay the $300 to have the aforementioned gentlemen served at the corporate offices by the sheriff. I again fully expect no response by which time I will file a default order for balance plus costs, and pecuniary damages. Not looking for millions of dollars just someone at this ridiculous company to be held accountable. 2014-10-17. I drove my best friend Madison to Money Mart on Memorial Dr. and 52 St N.E. Calgary. All she wanted was to get a payday loan. As I was waiting for her, I saw a police car pull up to the Money Mart and 2 police officers enter the building. I did not know what was going on. I saw the officers talking with Madison. After like 40 minutes, the officers drove away. Madison came back to me visibly shaken and very upset.
Madison informed me that the agent for Money Mart made her wait and she did not know why. I did not know why it was taking so long. The Money Mart agent had called the Calgary Police because he/she thought there was something wrong with Madison's documents. The police officer informed Madison that they had been called because someone was trying to cash some illegal cheques. Again, Madison was there to try and get a payday loan. The loan officer at Money Mart wrongly accused Madison of illegal activities, made up a story to the Calgary Police Service, and tried to have Madison arrested. This is so wrong, Money Mart needs to review this location's employees activities.

I was reading one of the stories about a person who wanted to pay back a smaller amount as that was all they could afford at the time. I have just found myself in that same situation and after speaking with the person on the phone, they have advised me that they will not accept what I can pay and I must pay the full amount owing in the next 2 paychecks (which for me will not be able to be done). I have gone to Money Mart for years on and off and have never had any problems, but this is ridiculous. So knowingly lying so that I could get off the phone, I said sure - I'll go into the branch and start paying that or if I have to, I'll reloan.
I think it is ridiculous that they put somebody in that position. The only reason I called them in the first place was because I wanted to be upfront and honest - I am now regretting that decision. Although, I must say, the staff at my location are very nice and understand, but this was their payment office (I'm guessing). We'll see what happens next. Yesterday evening, I went into a Money Mart location that I've never been to. You know, I figured there would be no issues using a new location as I've used numerous other locations before without issue. Boy, was I wrong. First off, as soon as I walked up to the counter, I was treated with an air of disdain and what one could only call surprise that I was in a MONEY MART asking for a payday loan... Now mind you, before last night, Money Mart was my go-to whenever I needed a payday loan, as I was always treated amazingly and there was always prompt and friendly service. Until last night, when this man who claimed to be the store manager of this location, which I find hard to believe, he probably just didn't want to get his manager when I asked for them. As he from the very first step treated me more poorly than I've ever been treated by someone in customer service.
He began by telling me because that location didn't have my information on file, that I needed a bank statement.. Fine. I stepped outside to make that phone call as there were other customers who needed his assistance. I came back inside, and stood in line AGAIN. And by the time I got back up to the counter, he decided to tell me that not only did he need that bank statement but a cheque. Fine. So I left the store and walked allllll the way back to my house to get this cheque. When I questioned why he was making me sign my cheque, he got very hot tempered with and treated me like I was stupid for asking a simple question, as I've never been asked to do so before.
When he asked for my personal information, he said he needed a working phone number. I gave him both my work and home number.. And when he tried calling both.. and they didn't work, this WONDERFUL human being decided in front of a whole store full of people to tell me he was going to have me arrested for fraud as I was falsifying my information by not giving him a cell phone number... Had he asked for my cell phone number, I would have given it to him. He then carried on with his charade of having me arrested and calling 911 because I was committing fraud. He also accused me of lying to him about walking all the way home to get a blank cheque, as well as lying about stepping outside to make a phone call to my bank, because according to this fine human being, I had my bank statement on my phone the whole time, and the cheque was in my pocket... So he accused me of lying to him basically as soon as I stepped foot in his store...
Let me tell you, I have NEVER EVER, EVER been treated so poorly by someone in customer service in my whole life. And I assure you, I will be paying back this loan of a measly 200.00 today, even though I borrowed it last night because that is how strongly I feel about NEVER having to deal with this ** hole of a business ever again.

I live in Ontario. About a year and a half ago, I decided to take out an online payday loan from Money Mart for the first time. I had quite a few expenses at the time and Christmas was approaching and needed cash. I don't have credit cards and only use cash (am nearing the end of a 5 year consumer proposal). I paid the loan ..pre-authorized withdrawal and then the cycle began and the loans started to get larger so I could make ends meet after the payments came out. A week ago I decided I couldn't keep going this way..I needed to end this vicious cycle. Did some research online and decided to put a stop payment on the automatic withdrawal that was due. I then contacted Money Mart to tell them this and asked if I could please pay it all off gradually (I offered them $220 a month..$110 per paycheck).
The loan payment due was $871 total. That's what I could afford with all my other living expenses. I quickly realized there is NO negotiating with them. The first person I dealt with was very nasty and condescending and said all they could do was divide it in half over the next 2 pay periods and that my offer was unacceptable. Several emails back and forth over the next few days and with each different person, I got different payback amounts that they would accept..all too high. I repeatedly asked for an account number so I could send them payments via online banking. They would not consider this. The last email from their collections dept. said they were marking my file "refusal to pay" and would attempt to electronically debit my account. My stop payment is good for a year, so I know they can't just go in and take what they wish whenever they wish. I also moved my money to another account that they don't have access to until I can HOPEFULLY get this resolved with them. I just want to pay this off as I can but they refuse, so I have no idea what to expect now. Anyone have a similar story and how was it resolved??

I file my taxes with Money Mart pretty much every year with them and I have trusted them all with my heart and last year they screw up my taxes big time. They told me that I should come back later and when I came back the guy who was helping me was very mean and start telling me that I didn't make much so am not going to get anything from my tax returns which I didn't really get. And I told him to give my papers back and I will go somewhere else. He did gave me my papers back and the last I know they start calling me and harassing me and telling me that am owing them yet they didn't file my taxes and the guy return my documents to me.
This year again I went back to them, fool me, and they did file my taxes. And after they told me I have to pay the money I was owing and I told the lady that yet it wasn't my problem, their own representatives screw up and I end up paying. Later I get a letter telling me that am owing them and I tried to get some answers and clarification on what owing and the lady was so mean and rude at me. Seriously I couldn't believe that’s how the service of these guys are. And she start telling me how she went and file her taxes at H&R BLOCK with her husband which I don’t understand what does it have to do with me. But when it was time to owe them, I got an email from them saying that "because of provincial restrictions, we're unable to take money out" & I had to make a deposit through my bank. That didn't go through. Instead they decided to take some money out of my account without my authorization. It wasn't even the full amount they were supposed to take. I've emailed them numerous times & when I try to call they hang up. I didn't mind paying it, but they should've let me know that they were taking money out when they told me they were unable to. I'm still trying to get ahold of them, but still nothing. I have proof with my emails I received from them & their lack of response.

So by law, National Money Mart is only allowed to contact me 3 times a week. Those three times, they must either leave a voice message or talk to you directly; otherwise, they can call you as much as they want. So I logged the 3 calls that I had with them this week and let them know that they have reached the maximum they can contact me for this week. This is not including the voice mail they left with the auto dial tech. Yet they still seem to be calling! What they do now to skirt around the law and criminally harass you is when I say, "You have reached the 3 time this week you can contact me", I start to get auto dials that when I try and answer it just goes to a busy tone.
I have told them this is illegal and am now collecting evidence to use against them in court. You know that if a company like this is using illegal collection practices that you can offset your debt with what you are awarded from the harassment. Just make sure you can prove it. Money Mart uses numbers from all over Canada, uses unknown and private numbers and auto dials. Document each call, number, person talked to, etc. Just because I owe a small debt doesn't mean a company can use illegal means to recover it.

I STILL have not received my return for two of those years, because I found out a few months later that Easy Tax had done them wrong for one of my years, so they held back the other one until the problem was figured out. Now it's August, and every time I call Easy Tax, they say they've talked with the CRA and it will be 'another two weeks' before they can start them, maybe a month or two even..... It's frustrating and I'm pissed off, and feel like I've been ripped off by Money Mart. DON'T get Money Mart to do your taxes, no matter how easy they make it seem!!!

My 18 year old respite son got his first job at Labour Ready and wanted to cash his check in Abbotsford B.C. I took him to South Fraser, one that is in the TD branch complex. I instructed him to go into Money Mart by himself and do it on his own. When he went in at 8 am, I waited outside for him. After about 8 minutes, he came out and said that no one was at the front counter; he was in the back ignoring him. I instructed him to go back in and call him and tell him that he was there. He went back in and again the gentleman in the back refused to come to the front. I waited for another few minutes and honked the horn and told him to come out, that we are going elsewhere. I took him over to Moneytree in Abbotsford and there were no issues.
I work in respite and this was a first time for my foster son to go to a place like this. He is not established and I wanted his first experience in doing something for himself to be a good one. As I have other financial obligations I am trying to clear at the same time, I was not able to repay the full amount all at once. Well that was a travesty for the Money Mart store and the collection center. I got nowhere with the staff and they were less than understanding when I explained my situation, but offered to repay the loan in installments. After some negotiating, I got them to agree to 2 small payments with the balance the middle of this month. That said, I've now run into other creditors demanding payment in the middle of this month as well, so I don't know what to do.
As it stands now, MM will get two more small payments (so I can still pay rent, transportation to/from work and put food on the table) with the balance to follow mid-September. Once September 16th rolls around, at least they will be paid back in full and I will never have to use them again. In fact, by mid-September next year, I will be completely debt-free. Can't wait! Let's just hope that MM doesn't pull a fast one and take money out of my account, which they did a few months ago which has thrown me into a tailspin financially.

They were rude about it and said it was unsatisfactory and wanted it all at once. I am experiencing financial hardship, so I cannot pay it all at once. I have been getting numerous calls each day from Money Mart day after to the point that it is harassing. I wanted to really thank the members of Money Mart, specifically the Chilliwack branch on Luckakuck Way. These guys are really topnotch. I went in for a small loan like all of their customers. As always, it was a pleasure to be greeted with that slight sneer of disdain as I walked through the door, that wonderful pleasing look of someone who loves their hates and loathes their customers. The paperwork was filled out by the new girl who was fairly quick and I left. My surprise came 2 weeks later, when I got a phone call from Hamish of Money Mart. This guy's a true champion; his condescending tone of voice had just the perfect tone of hate in it; truly a pleasure. It was way awesome how he told me that I had cancelled the check at the bank. Not knowing anything about a cancelled check, I went off to the bank, didn't make it that day but the next day I managed to make it. I was very confused because I had the money in the bank to cover it off and I didn't cancel the check.
After about an hour in the bank, an hour I had to take off work, an answer was found. The check had been dated wrong, thanks new girl, and submitted to the bank anyways. It was the bank that cancelled the check. Now all the while, I'm getting a call about every 40 minutes, from the branch and collections (Hamish, what a champion). They call my cell phone and work. I got the pleasure of explaining to my boss that my checks don't always cover everything at the end of the month and I go to Money Mart sometimes. This is really awesome because my boss thinks I don't pay my bills and collectors are calling work. Another chat with Hamish and I explain that I didn't cancel the check; it was the bank because the branch misdated it. “No,” he said. 'He knows' I cancelled the NSF check. Side note here - I don't think a cancelled check will ever go NSF because it's been cancelled. So now he's demanding. He has been demanding the whole time but now he's demanding I go to the branch and fix my mistake before he puts me into 3rd party collections.
I responded by acknowledging that I owe money, by saying that I have no problem going into the branch to give them payment. I proceeded to tell him everything I've gone through in the last couple of days: the phone calls every 40 minutes, the condescending, belittling attitude, the phone calls at work, getting in trouble with my boss, how my boss thinks I'm not paying, how everyone at work now knows how tight things are for me. And I say, I'll go in there and pay, I have no problem doing that, but I want an apology because I've done nothing wrong, it's not my mistake. Apologize and I'll go right down and pay. I then got another lecture on how important it is to pay my bills on time and how I shouldn't have cancelled the magic check that somehow went NSF. He said I'll get no apology. I got another call at work about 15 minutes later, the Champ again, telling me he has called the branch and they confirmed that I cancelled the NSF check and that it's all my fault.
Wait, wait, wait! Hold on here, Champ. Now you're being lied to by your branch and they are blaming me. Nope, nope, nope, it's all my fault. No, he won't request a faxed copy of the check so that he can confirm it himself. I'm a liar, it's my fault, I'm a horrible human being. Please note, I was never directly called a liar or a horrible person. He was very good at indirectly using the words and making me feel like a big steamy pile of **. I really have to question what goes on behind the counter there. New girl does paperwork wrong. Who is the supervisor there that's not doing their job, who was supposed to check the paperwork? Did they see the misdated check and try and force it through the bank anyway? Isn't that fraudulent? Why didn't they just call and say, "We made a mistake; can you help us fix it?" The problem would have been solved with a simple polite phone call but they couldn't do that. Moneymart is awesome. Thanks for letting me rant.

I broke that arrangement as I have been dealing with a personal matter that has physically relocated me.
I have been getting calls and keep telling the agents that I am able to make partial payments. They decline every time and say that what I am offering is unacceptable. I can make smaller payments on the loan until it is cleared up. I spoke to the Branch Manager last week to try and work something out and he was all okay with it, until today when I received a threatening call from John. He called from a blocked number and asked me if I was ****? I confirmed my name and then he said he had my file on his desk from a company named "Money Mart." Further to this, he said he was going to be coming by my house to collect the money on Friday (tomorrow) if I was unwilling to pay today. I said I am not at home and that I won't be home until January 16, 2012. He said he would speak to my family and collect the money that was owed. I told him that he has no right to threaten me and that I don't appreciate bring harassed considering I have made several attempts to rectify the situation. Before he hung up, he said that I better have the money ready tomorrow and told me to stop calling (whatever that means) and that he would see me tomorrow.
In shock and scared, I telephoned the head office and gave them the information. I am shocked and appealed at how ill managed this is being taken. They were unconvinced that this was possible and that I was making it up. I also called the Money Mart Branch back to speak with "Kevin" the Manager and he was unwilling to cooperate. I asked him if there was a John who worked at the branch and he said no. I asked if he gave the file to someone else, he said it was out of his hands. He also told me to stop calling that branch. She said that it was okay and she would make a note on my account.
A few weeks later, I checked my bank account to see that they took over $800 from my account. I work contracts with an agency and hit a very bleak time during fiscal year end. By the time I started another contract, I was back-paying. I defaulted on a $100 payday loan with $29.95 interest and chose to be able to eat while I struggled for the next contract. So they got their NSF fee and the bank charged their fee, two counts of $42. I paid back $60 and when I could not give a precise date for the rest (I had been trying to sell some belongings), they started with the phone calls, eventually all of them were from BC, on the other side of the country, five to six times a day.
Unfortunately, I've experienced these people to be vicious and kept the phone ringer off. Nothing can force me to engage them without my lawyer or the police present. If they addressed the people they harass on the phone in public, we would be in our rights to have them arrested and plenty of witnesses would agree. Obviously, some people don't know how much groceries cost, much less the phone service they abuse to harass by when times are rough.
Then after a month of this every day, I went to pay my rent only to discover $125.95 was taken from the account with the "draft memo" notice. They had put the check through again. I doubt very much I'll get the difference from my first payment back...and that's theft. On Canada Day, no less.
In total, my $100 loan cost me $269.95. I've paid out quite a lot of money in interest to Money Mart over these last couple of years for much larger loans, which were always paid. Also at the Money Mart location I went to, the customer service guys were very nice and polite, as I got to know them they told me their working conditions are deplorable and most have left or are leaving. And since I know them, it was a sad call I had to make, but I did not want to fail them on a commitment date and let them down and I know they regret handing the file over. No hard feelings guys.
To me, the greatest irony is that the massive real estate corporation that owns my apartment building stood by me even though I owed them for two months rent! They were never vicious or dishonest or criminal (calling people from the highest rate distance is robbery!) And I've only two more payments till I'm clear! So in two weeks I could have given them their $69.95. Yes, you read that right, they did all that for $69.95 to someone who has done business with them for three years, same location and all of this over a period of two and a half months! What comes around goes around...
Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories. I know how hard it is to brace yourself for the abuse when everything else you had to pay took it all and you're getting by on barely one meal a day. And there is no government assistance or food banks for those who can make enough money for shelter, utilities, and phone, which are necessary to keep the job. For all these past few months of hardships, and I know this could happen to anyone, I've known corporate executives that crashed. I'll just keep getting through and treat people with respect. And someone unexpected did help me out that same day, so I was able to put my rent through and I'm relieved that I won't be letting the property corporation down. They deserve every penny.
As for the human garbage whose behavior does not motivate payment but only adds an additional burden to those under extreme duress, what comes around...

I went to this branch to get a payday loan as routine every month for the last 2-3 months, where which there has never been any problems until this march 08, 2011 at approx. 7:10pm Calgary time. A new employee was processing my request and quite some time passed by and I asked if there was a problem and she stated there was one since she couldn't find me in the system and she apologized for taking so long but she was trying. I accepted that.
As time passed by and seeing that she didn't feel it was important for me to have the process expedited expeditiously, I told her that I had many payday loans all paid on time and I never had such delays. That's when Fardos jumped in and started yelling at me not to "cop an attitude." I told Fargos not to yell at me and she continued at which time I requested my paperwork back because I wasn't going to tolerate that kind of abuse. She continued yelling at me as I left saying hurtful remarks.
I turned back requesting to speak to her manager who so conveniently appeared. As I tried to explain to the manager, who refused to give me her name, my predicament, Fardos kept interrupting at which point I turned to the manager and asked her to stop this abuse. The manager stated she was in the back room and only heard Fardos come to the defense of the employee processing my loan at which point Fardos again, yelling interrupted the manager who, did I say refused to give me her name. At that point, I asked the manager if she had heard what was going on why did she not take any steps to make certain the matter would not escalate to the point it did.
Again, Fargos started yelling and I decided it would be best to leave given the evidence showed I was dealing with people not qualified to be dealing with the public. I left and came back to ask for the phone number of the establishment and was disgusted when Fardos threw it to the slot. I called the number within 15 minutes at approx. 7:40pm and Fardos answered the phone. I asked to speak to her manager to again try to get her name and Fardos told me to call back tomorrow.
The fact that I am writing this at this time of the night shows this incident is troubling me given I occasionally depend on Moneymart for financial assistance and they have provided me with courteous assistance until now. I was disappointed that manager would witness the abuse I was receiving from this employee and take no steps to diffuse the situation forcing me to leave so there would be no escalation. Three days later, I received a call from my bank informing me that my check had bounced and I owed nsf fees. I contacted the branch that day and was told that it was my fault the check bounced and that it would be sent to collections in 15 days if no payment was made. I went in and payed $100 on the balance of $300. I informed them that the rest would be paid in three weeks.
Two weeks later, I got a call from the collections department at they're head office saying I owed this money now and interest was being applied. So I sent them a check and forgot about it. Last year, I went in to get financing for a car and was told that I could not have it because I owed money to Money Mart. I contacted them and they said that they hadn't processed my check two years previously and when I asked why, they had no answer and said you must pay it now. I sent them two checks, each written for half the amount owed. I checked with my bank when the first check was dated for and it had been cashed so once again I forgot about it.
Yesterday I received a letter from a collection agency saying I owe almost three hundred dollars still. So today, I called money mart again and was informed that my second check was never received, which is curious because they were in the same envelope. So I paid this collection agency the balance today and hopefully the matter is closed.

The incident occurred on 1/20/2010. My husband was scammed. He wrote out a postdated check to a man with the assumed name of Tim Meyer. We contacted the police immediately after the incident. The officer informed us that we were scammed and advised us to put a stop payment on the check. However, Tim was able to cash the postdated check and collect the money at Money Mart. Money Mart now claims that we are responsible for payment of the check. They claim they are protected by the UCC laws for Holder In Due Course. To qualify for HDC they must have accepted the check in good faith. The UCC defines good faith as honesty in fact and the observance of reasonable commercial standards of fair dealing. Money Mart failed to act in a commercially reasonable manner when they chose to cash a post \dated check without taking the minimal steps to discover whether the check was valid.
The presentation of a postdated check should put a cash checking entity on notice that the check may not be good. Money Mart was put on notice that the check was not good until a later date. Good faith, as it is defined in the UCC requires that a holder demonstrate not only honesty in fact but also that the holder act in a commercially reasonable manner. They chose to accept the check on their own peril. We took the proper steps to protect ourselves and our well being by contacting the proper authorities and to make certain that the check would not be valid. Conversely, it is apparent that Money Mart neglected proper protocol in cashing the check. It was the responsibility of Money Mart to acknowledge the postdate on the check and verify its validity. Therefore, we are not responsible for their negligence. We can provide a police report to validate our statement as well.

Well, I went to Money Mart to get a payday loan. I have done this several times in the past. This time however, I had gotten laid off my job between pay periods. So, I called Money Mart and explained that I had gotten laid off and will pay off the loan as soon as I get a new job or make a payment the following month. Launa, the girl I spoke to said, I'll put a note on your account, and if you can make a payment by the 15th, please do so or your case will escalated to the head office. I told her not to deposit that cheque I had written because it will bounce. What does she do, she totally ignores that the conversation ever took place and deposited the cheque.
Now, my account is in the negative for a $42.50 NSF fee, which could have been avoided if Launa had listened to me. Isn't this illegal? Or is there something I can do about this? Well, the bank charged me $42.50 NSF, plus, they will charge me another $5.00 for being in the red. Now, I owe my bank money, as well as Money Mart, and they will now charge me $20.00 for not paying on time and interest will be piled onto the loan.

I wrote a check to an individual who went to this company to get the check cashed. I got a message from Nichole asking to call regarding the check. In the time it took me to call back, the individual who I wrote the check for had already left and this company no longer needed any information from me. However, Nichole insisted that she needed my PIN for my bank account to verify funds for the cashing of my check which was no longer being processed. I told her I would not give her the information. I called back and asked for a manager and got Debbie who told me she needed the information due to the amount of fraud they have been experiencing. These guys were trying to get my money. They had no legitimate reason to ask for that information. If they are a legitimate check cashing operation, then they have other means to legally verify my funds. Beware!

Hello there, I just wanted to tell as many people about the terrible expirience I have had with money mart. In the beginning of March I took out a payday loan for 150.00 dollars (which the tellar was trying to get me to take more) I asked a number of times, until what day I had to buy back my check so as to not have to pay the entire 179.00 that the check was made out for. She told me that I had until the 19th of march, because Friday is a holiday. So I got together the money on the 19th and went to get my check back.
I was told by the tellar that, since I had last been in, the policy had changed and I now had only until 12pm of the 19th to buy my check back. I was also told by the tellar Jesse that, we just aren't making enough money with payday loans so we changed the policy. I feel tricked and taken advantage of. I will never ever use their services again, because they lied to me! I am a single working mother who goes to school full time and 30 dollars can be the difference between food and no food. It is a travesty that these companies can do this to people who are just trying to survive.
I already mentioned that I am a single parent, because of this situation I cannot buy a bus pass this month and it may not seem like much to some but it is everything to me.

I had a cheque for Money Mart bounce. They called me, and attempted to recover the full amount. I tried to explain to them that I would need to pay back a certain amount per month, as I could not pay the full amount. I was then advised that this was not good enough--that I should just come and pay them back and then get another loan to get by. I could not do this, and my file was sent to collections. I was called by Eric Duchesne on Friday, February 15th. I work until 6 pm and could not return the call. I then received a phone call at my place of work on the following Monday.
I did call back at that time, and after explaining things to him, we had come to an agreement that I would pay back half on my pay of March 19th; and then the balance would be on the next pay after that, which would be on April 2nd. I did not ask for written confirmation of this, my mistake. Imagine then, my surprise when I looked online in my bank account and saw a debt memo collection in the amount of the cheque that had bounced.
My rent check bounced, and I will now not be able to honor other commitments I have made to some of my other creditors for payment of late amounts. Money Mart would not--and said they could not--help me. Funny, that is what the bank told me, also. Money Mart said "Ooops, well it looks like the branch manager re certified the cheque." I asked, "How can they put it through when it has already gone to collections?" The point being: it went to collections, and they were quick to be demand the full amount now. Now they are warning me about not paying the interest!

I recently recieved a Western Union $500.00 U.S. Money Order purchased at a 7 Eleven in Northern California for $1.00. When I went to cash the Money Order I discovered that the only institution I could cash the Money Order at was Money Mart. Money Mart is the sole representative Western Union in my area. I attended the local Money Mart in order to cash the Money Order. The Clerk informed me that the exchange rate for that day 0.9528 = $476.40 in Canadian dollars. This exchange rate was .02 cents lower than the current daily exchange rate @ the banks.
Further as I was to find out Money Mart considered the WESTERN UNION MONEY ORDER as a check. Therefore this entitled Money Mart under their fee policies to subject the $500.00 to a further charge of 4.99%(on the face value) = 23.77 because the Money Order was issued in U.S Funds & charge a further 2.99 listed as an item fee. The end result a $500.00 U.S. Money Order amounted to $449.64 in Candian Dollars.
Needless to say I was astounded that Money Mart could subject me to such outrageous fees so I contacted them through their Website.
Their response by email is as follows: Money Mart is a convenience based financial service. We are open longer hours than a bank and open weekends and holidays. In addition, there are no holds on your money when you come into Money Mart to cash a cheque. As with any convenience based business, the charges incurred by the customer are in place to offset operating costs associated with the services provided. In addition, US items take longer to clear our account once deposited. All of these variables have been taken into consideration by our corporate office when determining our service charges. In summary, your transaction was processed in accordance with our current fee schedule. I hope the information above addresses your concern relative to the service charges you incurred. Please feel free to contact me should you require further information.
I also contacted Wetern Union through their Website & have recieved no response.
I further contacted the Better Business Bureau to launch a complaint & was informed that the parameters of complaint layed out by the BBB did not concern my complaint with Money Mart.
I ask you what gives Money Mart the right to charge these fees? This was a Money Order not a check. The funds in question were held in trust with Western Union.
Once again as is it is already well known this proves that Money Mart is not only a Loan Shark but simply are thieves & corporate pariah's preying upon any opportunity to take advantage of any situation.

I took out a payday loan to help me move closer to my employment for $653.75 due on August 21, 2007. My then employer didn't bother paying the bonuses on time as they stated they would and the check ended up bouncing.
I try to get funds together and was able to put down $160 at one time to try and pay it down while my employer jerked me around and didn't pay the bonus for over 2 months.
On November 9th,2007, Money Mart certifies the check and collects the original amount of $653.75. I go into a location and get the remainder of the $160 back totaling $135.65. I was told the account was settled.
The following week I receive a letter from Money Mart asking me to pay the full amount of $653.75 back to them and continue receiving automated messages to call them. I ignore the first couple since I figured they just needed to catch up to the fact the account was settled. But each call cost me primetime minutes on my phone so call them to ask them to stop calling me.
I get a real ignorant kid on the line that tells me I owe $140.75 for the NSF fee twice plus interest. I tell him I can't be charged for the NSF twice and to send me a letter outlining these new charges. I also tell him these automated messages cost me money and not to keep calling me until I receive said letter.
They refused to send any written documentation of these charges and the harassing phone calls continued.
I find Money Mart website and email them on December 12th, 2007 telling of my problem and asking for their complaint handling procedure. They didn't get back. I emailed them again on December 16th and provided more information like the reference # the automated message kept leaving.
I received a reply from Alan Brown, Collection Manager with a breakdown of what I owe and now it's $68.14.
If the kid during that first conversation gave a reasonable amount and reasons for the charges, it would likely have been paid provided they had actually send me written reasons for it. But they refused to send any documentation and continued their automated phone calls to harass me into paying for charges that appear AFTER the account was settled.
Economically, I've had to pay for their harassing automated messages for over a month and 1/2. I left my employer that jerked me around for the bonus and have been applying for better jobs. Sadly, I'm out of minutes on my phone right now and will not be able to get more until Wednesday night. I'm missing employment opportunities because Money Mart continued automated harassing phone calls after they were asked to stop.
I'm very stressed out and it's showing in lack of sleep and general feelings of unwellness.

Leaving me without rent money. I will now be late on other bills and barely anything for groceries. When I called they told me the damage was already done and the only thing I could do was pay the service charge and reborrow which would not help because my cheque was impossibly low, and they would not have given me near enough to be able to pay my rent. Luckily my fiance and I just joined our accounts so the money they took out was his, otherwise I would have had another cheque bounce and the associated fee.

After I moved out of Surrey and away from my abusive ex a government check came to my old address where my ex was still living. I suspect that he wanted to get back at me for leaving him and taking our son with me by cashing that check so I couldn't have that money for our son. One of the tellers allowed someone other than myself (I suspect my vindictive ex boyfriend or his mother) to cash a check through my money mart account.
When I called the Money Mart that was used all I had to do was give the teller my SIN number and birthdate over the phone and she gave me the store where I opened my account and what checks had been cashed since I registered and when they were cashed.
I only found out about this when I recieved a photocopy of two checks. One was my replacement check that was issued to me when I changed my address through the government and the second was one that was cashed at the money mart in Surrey where my name was forged on the back. I was in Powell River at the time that check was cashed.
Money Mart is an easy target for identity theft. They make it too easy to get peoples information and to cash other peoples checks. There is an investigation pending however the Money Mart they used doesn't have security cameras so it is going to be difficult for the police to find enough evidence to press charges.
Since this was a government issued check the government could possibly seak overpayment charges from me.

On July 14, 2006, I went to money mart to sent money overseas via western union, The lady at the desk quoted me a service charge of $34.00 to sent $400. I later went to the Ralph store next door to confirm the rate by calling Western Union, they quoted me a rate of $24.00, I went back to the Money Mart store, and they insisted that the rate that they quoted me was directly from Western Union. I remember that several months ago I was charged exhorbitant rate when I sent money overseas via western union by the same company.
I know that several years ago there was a class action law suit against Western Union for charging customers exhorbitant fees.
When I called to complain to Western Union about the incident I was informed that Marie Crawford one of the corporate managers would be getting in touch with me, I never heard from her.
My main concern is that, if Western Union is actually in cohot with money mart to defraud consumers or is Money mart (310-675-5377) doing this on its own.
