I opened account recently with Discover Bank, as their savings account returns are good. They allowed me to deposit money and to transfer money out it is not working. All it states is try again later. Contacted 5 people so far and they don't know what the issue is. I give 1 star for this bank. generally I don't leave any feedback, but it is so frustrating. Just want to warn others before they chose this bank.

I've been with this bank for a little over 3 months and it's been the worst bank I've been with. My tap works when it wants to. Got the card replaced and still does the same thing. 12/09/2023 they were doing maintenance and I had 0 access to do anything. Zelle was not available and when I called in they advised me they can't see anything and could not access my account. I like the fact that I get paid early, but other than that I would not recommend this bank to anyone. Everything needs to be verified and it's a pain. I will going back to my old bank.

The company withdrew funds for my Discover card account on 12/5 then withdrew more funds on the same day for a total of $109. I signed an agreement to pay $45 for 6 mo. then $37 after that. So, what do they do... keep what is technically due, $64, instead of the contract amount of $45. This company just screwed me out of $19. Don't ever trust a credit card company! ever! This company refunded the $45, but that is not the main complaint. My main issue is "Don't steal from me!" Don't waste your time and effort on this company, they just might steal out of your pocket, too.

My Checking account was hacked back in August. Updated my info on Discover card with a new checking account. They "decide" to cancel the autopay that I have set up for years without my knowledge. They never informed us and then they sent our info to the credit bureaus for late payments. Ridiculous! If you acknowledge cancelling someone’s auto pay without informing them that is a deceitful practice. All this time we thought the payments were up to date. 60 days later come to find out that my credit score dropped over 100 points because of Discover card's fraudulent activity. Do not work with this company.

Discover promised to give bonus $150 if I put $15,000 to my saving for a month. I put for 2 months, but discover did not give me the bonus. I was all out selling investments and borrowed money from my neighbors so that I can join the promotion. When I called, all the bankers gave different answers, round and round in order not to pay the bonus. I was stupid I trust this bank, since I got the feeling that they are all liars. Discover use the promotion to pay for its debt, using poor and stupid customer like me as a tool to cover its debt. Never ever join this bank, very tricky and manipulative.

I've been a loyal customer for over 10 plus years and I never thought I would run into any issues until recently I made a purchase from Saks and uploaded proof of delivery instructions and business hours. All details was confirmed but not followed. The package was stolen and Discover refused to investigate and hold them accountable. Now I'm stuck with the balance and no item. This is the worst credit card company in the world. They don't have your back and don't care at all. Lesson learned.

I applied for a cashback Discover card and was instantly approved online. I created my account, signed all of the necessary documents, and was given a digital version to use immediately, so I attached the card to my PayPal and Amazon accounts. A few days later, when I went to use the card, it was declined, I contacted them and was told that I had to give them full access to my IRS records before I could use the card. For a 500$ credit limit?!? What a joke. I guess they ultimately did me a favor. Don't waste your time with this company..

Lack empathy and support for unique situation that present from a domestic violence victim standpoint. They only follow specific guidelines and if you don't fit the guide you can't get a bank acct. When you have to live in a constant state of fear due to your hx of violence received. I don't think you would want to put your real address out there. You don't want to expose yourself and lead your abuser to come and find you. Yes, cyber risk is possible. I think Discover and the Federal Bank Regulation Administration should consider making some changes reference to these unique situations with victims of violence. Not all people that do not present a real address but only a PO box are not money laundering.
I have state court papers to prove that I was hurt and in a state of persecution and fear. I don't want to really be part of a bank that doesn't even try to help and find solutions. I didn't ask to live this way but I need to remain safe and not put my real address out there and no one wants to share their address and put them self at risk. The state advises for protection using in place a PO box address. Read about domestic violence victim and the confidentiality of address. I make my statement so no victim of domestic or economic abuse try to apply for banking with Discover because you will be denied and not understood if you do not present a real address. I know I can't be the only victim that this is happening to.

I am reaching out to you as I have some serious complaints against Discover Bank. (a) I had a Discover CD account with Discover bank. (b) This CD matured on Aug 21 and I had placed phone instructions to close my CD and move funds to a savings account sometime in early August via phone call. (c) I noticed in September and saw the account was not closed so wanted to close the CD. I called discover bank to check if they can locate my maturity instructions and they said it will take them few days to do so. I also asked if I closed the account that day on Sept 14, I would incur an early withdrawal penalty of $24. Even if I waited few more days for the decision to come through, the early withdrawal penalty would be few more cents only. They said they would call me on Tue.
(d) Nobody called me on Tue and they called me on Wed, left me a message. Also sent me secure message to contact. I called them and now they say the early withdrawal penalty would be some $700. This behavior from Discover is totally unacceptable. I feel cheated. If I call Discover, they start asking me for proofs, refuse to send info via secure message and there is no way to hold them accountable to what their reps say on phone.

Getting your money out when you need it is a most basic function of a bank. Discover bank makes it incredibly difficult if not impossible. They limit how much money they release perhaps because they are short of cash. I’m out as soon as I can be. Their lack of physical branches is an epic failure. 5 phone people and a full hour and they still could not identify why atm access is failing. Pathetic.

They ask me to send a picture of me and a copy of my Driver's license. If I don't send it in to them they threatened to close the account. If you expect to be treated as anything other than a criminal, run from Discover as fast as you can. How Discover has managed to remain in business is beyond comprehension. Go elsewhere as fast as you can! After Discover solicits your business, they treat you as a criminal and demand all kinds of documentation to prove who you are a month after they issue you a credit card. They never have a supervisor available to deal with their canned response, abusive call center representatives. If you are an embezzler or a convict, Discover is the card for you.

The worst bank I’ve ever seen. If you plan to open an account with this bank, first read this: 3 months ago I ordered a credit card from the Discovery Bank, and I was interested in the fact that they quickly approve the credit limit, the card quickly approved me, delivered in 14 days, but I could only use it for one month. Then I got a message that I had to confirm my identity with a notary within two weeks, or they’d block my account. I got technical support and tried to explain the situation that I work 6 days a week and I do not physically have time to find a notary (Generally with such a request from the bank in the first).
I asked you to extend that time from two weeks to four weeks, to what did the cheerleaders say, "Okay, four weeks is the maximum we can give you." What do you think? My card was blocked two weeks after I sent them all the paperwork. When asked why they blocked it, they said I filled out my paperwork at the wrong notary, I only needed a bank notary. After a couple of days (My card is still blocked) I went to the bank where I asked the notary to fill out the correct document, everything looked okay and I sent it. 10 days later I called the bank and asked if they reviewed my documents, they replied that yes, but cannot accept them, as the notary did not fill in the field "Notary Commission/Identification number" One reservation, I live in New Hampshire, here do not use this number.
I have only one question, how a notary who checks my documents may not know, because the document says that the notary has confirmed them in NH. I asked them to talk to the manager of their department, and they told me he wasn’t there, but he could call me back in two days (it was 10:00 AM at the time) but I still had to go back to the bank and ask the notary to fill out my form. So I did, the whole story, in the column "Notary Commission/Identification number" Write "N/A in New Hampshire", send, 14 days, no answer, I call the bank, and they tell me that my date of birth is not readable in the document. (At that point I just felt like I was in a circus) 3 times I sent the document, and 3 times I faced incompetence of employees. I asked the support guy, "Can you read my birthday?" And he said to me, "Yes sir, I can see here *Calls my date of birth*, but the notary’s department said it’s unreadable, so I can’t help it.
He added that if I didn’t confirm my identity in two days my account would be completely blocked. I asked you to talk to the manager, and I was told that he wasn’t there as usual, but he could call me back. SPOILER: The manager hasn’t called me once. At the end, I was told that if I didn’t confirm my identity in two days, my account would be permanently blocked. I did all the same waiting 14 days, and I got a message that my account had been blocked. I’m dialling the bank to find out what’s wrong again. Why this time they could not confirm the document. The support person says, "I see the comment that we called the notary once, he didn’t pick up, so we couldn’t confirm your identity. We cannot recreate your account because it is blocked, you can try to create a new one." Here’s what I can tell you. No company or bank has sucked as much nerve as Discovery Bank. I think if there’s a bank in Hell, it’s called Discovery Bank.
As a result, I used a card for 1 month, spent 64 dollars out of 1000, (I paid it before state) And then try to prove that a real person and 2 months met with employees of the Discovery Bank who are either not so interested in their work that would Google that HX could have other laws. The labor is so not motivated to provide quality service that even after two requests to contact the manager, the manager can call you back only in a dream. Either Discovery Bank decided to recruit Or the Discovery Bank decided to recruit people who can’t parse complex numbers, like dates of birth. I don’t know, you’ll deduce for yourself. But I assure you, if you have the opportunity to open an account with another bank, in any case, TD Bank, American Bank, Chase Bank, open there, avoid Discovery, such experience that was with them, I would not even wish the enemy.

I had the Discover card for over a year and a half (unsecured) and despite NEVER maxing out let alone going near the limit, paying the balance off early each month, and keeping my debt: limit ratio under 30%, THEY CLOSED MY ACCOUNT! It was completely unexpected therefor I contacted them immediately asking what happened.
They fumbled around trying to find out what happened (not even the reps could figure it out) then after being transferred to a supervisor, they claimed they sent me a letter a couple months prior to verify personal information. WHAT??!? I stated the obvious, "You're JUST NOW verifying my info?? What if someone stole my identity, you would've let them get away with it for over a year and a half??" During the entire duration of this credit account, I've never had ANY issues and I've NEVER received any letters from them.
They claimed the letter requested verification of personal info otherwise the account would be closed. I requested a copy and when I received it, I had to have my husband read and confirm the absurdity...it stated "We were unsuccessful at verifying your physical address therefore we will discontinue digital statements and mail paper statements..." Yes, you read that right! There's no typo or mix-up of wording here. I called again and, as dumb as I felt reading such words, I repeated their letter to them stating how absurd that was. If they were unable to verify my physical address, why would they cancel digital statements and send paper statements VIA MAIL??
The rep then tried changing the reason claiming they not only sent me a letter (that was returned back to them undeliverable) but "we called you and you even said hello!" I felt like I was being punked. I insisted I've NEVER received a phone call let alone spoke with them. They claimed it was 3/18/23 but when I looked up my phone log for that day...NOTHING! I then looked at the spam and saw that my spam blocker handled one call that day for a total time of 1:01 minutes (one minute & one second), which is just enough time for the call to ring and ring, my spam blocker to respond, and their Autobot to respond to that as a "successful call". I insisted they must use auto bots to call which the supervisor confirmed they do.
After they refused to lift the suspension, I mailed a certified letter including a copy of my phone record, a copy of the letter I requested that I didn't receive prior to all of this (highlighting at no time did they state my account was at risk) AND they KNEW I never received the letter since it was returned, The letter only stated the type of statements would change, NOT that my account would be closed. I also included a full detailed letter of the unjust circumstances. I FILED COMPLAINTS WITH BBB and am still fighting.
DISCOVER CAUSED MY CREDIT SCORE TO DECREASE BY 38 POINTS! The disgusting thing is that I actually have a negative balance of $30 which means THEY OWE ME $30! My credit has suffered greatly because it shows the creditor closed the account, it lowered the max limit which changed my debt: limit ratio, and I'm shorter one card which also took a toll on my score. THIS WAS COMPLETELY UNPREVENTABLE SINCE I WAS DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT. They refuse to reopen the account while they continue holding onto my $30 extra that I paid as well as MAILING ME STATEMENTS on my 'closed account.' I asked why they didn't contact me through THEIR app since they send other notices and such through there. They claimed the app isn't linked to them...REALLY? That's unsecured and scary!!
They have done nothing to resolve this despite a few representatives acknowledging how wrong this was. On the flip side, I have AMEX Hilton which I'm extremely happy with! They contacted me before letting Columbian scam charges go through and prevented a big mess. They have been very stable, reliable, and I've even been able to add my 2 young adult kids to the account to help them kickstart their credit.
AMEX has limits you can set, freezing the card via their easy app for emergencies, free credit management, free perks, EXCELLENT live help 24/7, the list goes on. I couldn't be happier with AMEX but I also couldn't be more appalled that such a credit company as Discover can get away with ruining someone's credit for NO LOGICAL REASON! I wish I could post photos to show their disgusting ways since I would most likely question the validity of this since it sounds completely irrational. I'll check back to see if they update with that option...PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW! Also, on their site, they wouldn't allow me to leave a review. Interestingly convenient

I took out a Discover Card in mid-May, 2023 to transfer a $4,000 Credit Care balance so that I wouldn't have to incur 27% interest on the full Care Credit balance of $11,000. I have until July 15, 2023 to pay Care Credit or else I get hit with this hefty rate. When I submitted the balance transfer through Discover around May 20, I gave them the wrong credit card number because for some reason Care Credit issued me two, but I didn't know that. I received an email from Discover on May 31, 2023 that the balance transfer was complete. I decided to check my Care Credit account and guess what? There's still a balance!
I also received a billing statement for Discover for the Care Credit balance so I called Discover. Guess what? Discover charged me for the Care Credit balance even though it didn't transfer over and when I asked why, I was told that it's a projection of my future balance. Like, huh? When I realized that I gave Discover the wrong Care Credit account number, that confused me even more because how could you transfer a balance from a non-existent account? When I asked Discover that, Discover said they would redo the balance transfer with the correct information. They didn't.
I am still being charged $4,000 from Care Credit and $4,000 from Discover who is doing nothing but letting it happen. Fortunately, I can actually pay off my Care Credit balance so I wrote Discover to close this worthless account. Here's my problem: If I didn't check with Care Credit to see if the balance was moved, I would never have known that Discover did not move the balance to their account. I would have incurred the 27% interest. I feel like these credit companies all work together to scam us. Do not get a Discover card. It's terrible. Discover is the worst.

I explained this put me in a tough spot, I was asked to call an hour after upload. A day later, the account is still frozen bc there is an issue with my enhanced driver license issued 2 years ago and no additional explanation other than, one must wait a minimum of 2 days for the coach to review it.
The 3rd rep in the banking department I spoke with said they could not open the PDF submitted online. It appears that Due Diligence and Know Your Customer was not done properly when I first opened the account. My direct deposit is pending, will be rejected and I cannot access the money existing in the account. I am still waiting for a call from a supervisor. Should I say again how badly this is inconvenience me? That it can result in late payment fees for items that are due next week set for automatic deduction? I thought that was strange but gave my SSN as it said they needed to request my Tax Returns for the last two years. So I complied. Another week goes by and now they want me to take pictures on my cell phone and take a snapshot of my License and send it to the link they provided. So I did that. Once again... Why was all this AFTER being approved and getting my Card to use?
They said they can't verify me. So I do it a second time.....they can't verify it the second time so they say they will email me a form to fill out and get it notarized with a Signature Guarantee. So I do that and pay Money for those two items and my time. I upload that to the link they sent... They said they didn't receive it... so I uploaded it AGAIN.
Get a Letter from "Bethany" saying... "We Cancelled your Card We couldn't verify you"... I am trying to pay off my purchase balance and I was asking the agent how much I would have to pay to pay it off. She responded that she was not able to provide an official quote. I ask to speak to the supervisor and she apologize saying some of the information provided by the agent was "INACCURATE"! Suddenly I receive a notice that I must fill out some detailed form and have it notarized to verify my identity. They suddenly decide they don't know who I am after they approved the line of credit. Really stupid, that is a requirement that I refused to comply with since I have had a good credit rating over 20 years and if you don't know who I am you should do that during the application process. They closed the account which is fine, I now have 16 months to pay off the balance transfer interest free. Do not recommend Discover card, very stupid company.

Worst card to use for Balance Transfers. If you have balance transfers with different expiration dates, any payment over the minimum payment will be applied to the transfer that has the latest expiration date. Not the earliest expiration date. This of course does not allow you to pay off a transfer before expiration date. This allows Discover to then charge the full interest on amount of older transfer. I wanted to pay my oldest transfer off, but was told only 116.00 of my payment would go to the oldest transfer, and the rest would be applied to the transfer that expires in 2024.

I had a situation where my wife lost her job so my wife and I naturally needed to look at our finances and reduce spending where possible. We looked at the Discover bill and saw a lot of excessive activity from Doordash we knew nothing about. Our daughter had used the card some in the past but she stopped using it when she had been told the card would be deactivated. It occurred to us our account information my have been stolen. We went on the discover web site and initiated a freeze on our account. We received an email from Discover confirming that the account was frozen.
A few days later another $200+ in new charges appeared from Doordash. We did not authorize these charges and in fact we don't even have a Doordash account. Our Daughter told us she had not used the card. We deactivated the card and removed all authorized users. We continued to see new charges show up on the account. We reported the card as stolen. Discover continued to accept new charges even though the cars was reported stolen, the card deactivated and the account was frozen. We finally had to demand they close out the account. That stopped the new charges but Discover continues to demand we pay all of the disputed charges incurred since freezing the account.
In summary freezing a Discover card account does no good. They will totally disrespect the wishes of their customers and continue to accept charges even if they are unauthorized. This is corporate greed at its worst.

When I first opened a bank account with Discover, I was hoping to get the best due to their ratings with their credit card agency. Unfortunately, the account was far from excellent. I have used the debit card maybe 9-10 times. Of those uses, roughly 5 of them caused my account to freeze. These are normal transactions. After many calls and complaints, the bank keeps freezing my account on almost every use. Today, I received an email stating there was an issue with my account, again. I called the number and was transferred three times to varying personnel only to be told that Discover closed my account due to a company decision. No other reason was given, it was just arbitrarily closed.
I am actually happy Discover closed my account. They are by far the worst banking institution I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The company has removed my fear of whether the card would be working or not regardless of the funds in the account which covered any purchase made. If you're looking for a banking institution, I would highly recommending looking elsewhere. Discover is not ready for banking.

They play the same old games with holding funds as long as they can, lying about the reasons for delays, and waiting until payments post first before releasing deposits so they can charge fees. Was told my acct was frozen at the time of the transfer, the transferred funds were in an ACH (Automated Clearing House) and I'd have to wait up to 10-days for their decision. So I opened up a savings account with Discover that I had heard so many so-called great things about them. I was trying to get away from my other crappy Bank First National Convenience Bank of Texas due to financial issues with them and was recommended discover. Just to have them close it 3 days later with no explanation to why what happened. Told me it is a business decision and that I would have to wait 60 days to receive my money in a paper check.
I have no documentation indicating that that would happen though I have requested it. I have talked to so many individuals and their so-called Network. And they all want to tell me these statements "rest assured", I understand how you feel, verbally say you will get your money in 60 days. I work 2 jobs and go to college. Now I can't pay my bills. I was supposed to be paying for school but now I can't because I have to wait 60 days which then it's going to be too late and they're going to charge me extra fees.
I am appalled that they can't do anything to verify my money or that it's me making these transactions which was only total of two. I don't know do Zoom meeting so you can see the person visually to verify. What I don't understand is that my bank confirmed communication. I verified the transactions and I have been told that they are just holding my money and won't release it for who knows what reason now. That's really messed up. It's like telling someone they cannot eat for 60 days.
Discover has really put me in a bind and made me very fearful of any other bank out there. I am helpless and hopeless and I do not know what is going to happen to me if I'm not able to get my funds back when they so-called Representatives say you'll get your funds. I can't rely on somebody's word at least get me a documentation. An email something. But they can't even do that. They get to go home to their pretty little mansions and to their families and friends and get to go to the store and buy food and clothes and whatever the heck they want to where I can't do a thing until 60 days are up. I bank with this company and I have the most onerous and frustrating experience ever. I had to pay money to a government country department and due to time sensitivity, I was only given 3 business days to process the payment. At the time being, I was unaware of wire transfer which can deposit money almost instantly or same day but I didn’t know that so I elected to try a cashiers check option first which turned out to have not been able to make it on time anyway. Long story short, I asked the bank to cancel my cashier's check and was advised to send it with the word VOID written across. I then proceeded to upload the check back to the bank system for evidentiary purposes that the check indeed did not get deposited and I ought to receive the funds back to my account. The VOIDED check image was received on Monday and I was told that it will only be a couple of days before posted without anyone gave me more clarification since.
Then by Wednesday I still didn’t see the check deposit so I called back and still nothing happened because the said department was on lunch. Then I checked daily and still no one could tell me why nothing happened although they had my document uploaded and received. Eventually, it was Friday and I had to make my daily call since it was literally 5 days past since I made my deposit! Long story short, I finally got to speak to the supervisor that had any idea how this was handled. She explained that I ought to upload checks on both sides. Not just the front end. This to me was a brand new discovery.
Overall, I wish that I was given the full information from the beginning and not bits and pieces. To me I didn’t think I deserve such an agony (life is tough as is) and the people and companies I entrusted my hard earned dollars to ought to take full responsibility in making my life easier not harder. I wished there’s also a way they would allow me to email instead of crunching out the phone numbers and talking to different people all the time in this simple matter. Very disappointed especially I have been with them for over 20 years. I wish I can take my money elsewhere soon.

I left my bank of 30 years last week to give Discover a try because they had a bonus going on and had good interest rates for their savings acct. Well it has been a week of hell consisting of at least 15 contacts with the company and their workers to fix a problem they created. I also had to call, email and chat w my current bank to inform them to protect me Discovers' predatory practices.....
What happened is pretty simple; I opened up a savings acct and using THEIR app tried to transfer a large sum of money into the new Discover savings acct. The app said repeatedly that the transfer did not go through. I tried at least 4 times then gave up.... Because I wanted to get the acct funded to benefit from the sign on bonus I took the time to write and deposit a smaller check via their mobile deposit. That seemed to work as the app confirmed it....
A few days pass and I get an email that the first deposit I had attempted actually worked. This is bad because the second deposit "the check" will soon also go through and this will overdraw my old acct... I get on the phone and talk to tons of people at Discover. I also chat, email AND use facebook public posts-which they delete if negative- and IM via FB. No one seems to know what to do and most pass the buck and act all phony sweet w/o solving the issue their app created.... I spoke to both manager Kami and Deborah and non managers Lexi, Kim, Lisa and more. All they do is blab niceties using bank speak and ** not making any sense....
I am forced to tell them the easy understandable situation over and over and they FINALLY assured me my first deposit will be returned to my old bank and they will not cash the second check till after the fact.... Well they lied. The second check hit less than 24 hours after the first unauthorized transfer and it bounced. Now discover owes me transfer fees, and bounce fees. They are dragging their feet paying despite me providing proof of the penalty fees and despite the fact in several correspondences they said they would cover for their mistake....
At this moment I have no money in my usual checking acct, no money in my Discover savings and two penalty fees in my old acct. The money is in some limbo and I need to pay bills. Who knows where it is. They are keeping my money hostage and feeding me lies.... Remember they swore to me they were returning my first deposit? They swore this on Dec 9th. Well I looked 2 days AFTER I was told this by 2 managers and there is NO RECORD that the managers Kami or Deborah even tried to return the money the faulty app took... My money is just GONE and Discover email correspondence just keeps referring me to their bad website help center-which of course does not cover this issue- while they make interest on my STOLEN money. Don't do it. Don't trust them w a dime. Dishonest, condescending, and either crooked or severely incompetent.

The first of the month rolls around and I stupidly decide to write my rent check from my Discover account thinking that I could just easily deposit my paycheck. I go to deposit my check and getting message that most of the funds will be held for a week and a half. No thanks. So I deposited my check into my other checking account figuring that I could just transfer the money over to cover the checks. Well, I had no luck with that either. I couldn't register the account with PayPal. Couldn't register the card with Google pay. I called discover about this, and was told that the companies were trying to make withdrawals which were rejected by the bank because there was no money in the account.
Well, I guess PayPal was trying to authorize a dollar as some companies do to verify the account, which the Alsup refund. I also tried Zelle, they weren't registered with Zelle either. I tried Cash App also, thinking that I could just wire the money to a friend and have them Cash App it back to me. Guess what? Couldn't register the card with Cash App either! I called them to see what they would suggest, unfortunately they weren't able to offer me any suggestions. At the end of the day, I wound up depositing a personal check and I was excited to see that the check with post in a few days. However, I was told that the check will be held a week and a half. My rent check wind up being returned. Get this, after all was said and done I received a letter stating that a prolonged hold will be placed on the check because of "doubts of collectability." Well, the account will be closed because I doubt this is an account that can meet my banking needs. What an absolute headache! Needless to say, I got no cash back rewards from using this account, only late fees from not paying my rent on time.

I was looking to open a savings account with a reputable bank, good interest rate and phone app. I found Discover had a $200 bonus, clicked their link and read I had to deposit $25k by a certain date in order to get the bonus. I must have missed entering the promotional code somewhere - could be my mistake but that is not my complaint. After my acct was opened, before I deposited my money, I called in to make sure I would get the $200 bonus and the rep ensure me my account would be all set and I would definitely get the $200 bonus because they know my acct would qualify for it.
Fast forward 6 weeks later, I had done everything required including deposit over $25k. However, still no bonus. I call in and now they're singing a different tune. They told me I now have to provide the exact code for when I signed up and somehow it must match the code when I signed up, which makes no sense. I searched the web. Gave them all kinds of codes that I found, every code I gave them they sang a different tune as to why I can't get the bonus. Eventually I found the code with the exact date, and they sang a different tune with which contradicted a tune they sang moments earlier. They put me on hold multiple times for extended periods and finally I just said "Ok I give up, you win." Over 40 minutes of my life wasted and I wasn't going to keep going. I will be withdrawing all my funds ASAP and close my account.
I am so annoyed at this that I will start using another credit card instead of Discover as well. I have been using their credit card since 1999 and the last few years (5-10 years), I've charged my Discover credit card on avg $1k-2k per month. This also brought up another irritating situation I had with them a few years back when their credit service kept sending checks to write, which I would never use. I called in to have them stop as I thought it was risky since they have these checks (prefilled with my acct number) floating around mails. They said they couldn't stop sending the checks because it's part of their service and it's what I signed up for when I became a member.

Their rules and regulations are created to an excessive extreme. I feel like I've been through the ringer with the CIA. They send Emails that sound like the next step will be easy, BUT they NEVER address the reason why you contacted them in the first place & don't explain what steps you have to go through & all the INTENSE security hoops they make you and your co-signer to jump through and then having to go through their "Security dept" and then after being tortured by that department, they transfer you to ANOTHER department to go through most of the same questions. The intensity is WRONG!!!

After several years of only minor problems and good service, they've turned into liars and cheats. They just tack on balances $$$ with no explanation at all. Try to hide it behind unnecessary steps, and they stopped posting account balance with each transaction. Online CS is a waste of time. They try to delay or lose your payments IF YOU MAIL THEM IN. I think their system was HACKED but they're still trying to operate with damage data. Often their computers go down and doesn't show them your account details. CS will fake it on the phone.

The woman who has been calling demanded payment. She said they'd give me a short amount of time to pay them $405. Then the offer would expire. I explained to her that there is very little money. I need it to pay for the administration of the trust. The only other asset is the house. I'm living in it. SO, what do they expect? That I sell the house right out from under myself just to pay them? I do not appreciate being hammered on by someone else's bill collector or threatened either. MOST OF THE OTHER COMPANIES are writing the debt off. Cut throat Discover.

And now a few days ago Discover tells me that I owe them $3,000 for the same reason that someone transferred money from Discover to my Wells Fargo account that has been closed for almost a year now. This is a horrible bank that has no idea how to train their employees and treat their customers very poorly. They give out bad information when you call them and then blame you for this misinformation. I would not recommend them to anyone. Aside from the terrible customer service, they hold check deposit for way too many days and that results in them getting interest off your money and not pay it back to you. Also they claim that they make $200 available to you the next business day after deposit of the check. However, you will NEVER see that in your transaction history and you do not have access to that money.

So keep the confirmation and letters of closure because you may be notified years later of negative balances and you better hope the customer service left a note on their side. I closed my mm account last year and got an email this year saying I need to put money in account or it will be charged. My father passed away and I needed to close out his account and transfer his funds. Discover Bank did a terrible job and was totally incompetent in handling this matter. I sent a letter of instruction on April 21 and then faxed their wire transfer forms. On the day I faxed the forms, I called, and the "documentation specialist and supervisor" assured me that they would be processed in "3 business days." 7 business days later, no response, I called again, spoke to yet another documentation specialist who looked up the account, and pulled the papers and then told me it would "3 business days." Another 5 days, no response, called again, yet another specialist. This time, they pulled the papers and looked over them one by one and told me I had missed checking some boxes? When I went back and looked at the forms, I realized that the boxes were intentionally left unchecked because the first specialist instructed me to do so.
I checked them and faxed them back in - was told another 3 business days. 5 days pass, no response. Call again. Yet another specialist. Told that this would be the very last time I would be told 3 business day, they would personally walk the forms over to the wire transfer department. Waited 4 days. No response. Called again. Another specialist - who told me three of the forms would have to be redone because everyone else had neglected to inform me that the funds could not be transferred to a particular type of account. But swore that if I corrected these three forms, the other three would be processed and these three would be processed in 3 days. It's now the third day, I got a call (finally) from yet another specialist who rudely told me that one of the forms was wrong and that if I didn't correct it they wouldn't process the other ones. Essentially, they are holding all of my father's monies hostage. They won't release his money.
They are crooks. I've spent countless hours on the phone going back and forth and each time, they found something else to pick on the form and not release the money. They can't tell me all at once and they keep changing personnel on me everytime I call. I can't ever get the person twice and every person I talk to is a supervisor. At least the first few were nice about it but Jesse the last person I spoke with was very rude to me and said too bad there wasn't anything he could do about it.

I opened a Discover saving account because of their competitive rate and I made several deposits into my account. Things are ok until when I need to WITHDRAW some of the fund to my US checking account. Not only Discover bank interrupted the transfer of 1700$. They proceed to freeze my account. I have provided personal identification to validate the transaction but their decision was to close the account due to "fraudulent transfer?" Ironically the one committing fraud here is Discover and they just don't like money flowing out of their account. Fine, I can take my business somewhere else.
I then waited a whole month for my closing balance return to me and after several phone calls they claim they are working on it. They claim their support staffs are base in US and yet none of them seem to know what's going on in their company. The sad part is Discover doesn't have a physical branch where you can walk in and force them to return the money. I hope I can get my money back in a small claim court case in Salt Lake City. I chose Discover Bank after countless positive reviews on their availability, plentiful ATMs, and my husband's very positive experience with their credit card. We chose Discover needing those conveniences and a bank that could travel with us. Initial setup was rough. I did not find the online banking to be very intuitive, and due to that I didn't understand what I was doing. I am a banking professional with 8 years of experience in the industry, so I expected some differences, but this was cumbersome and easy to misunderstand. Consequentially I set up a bill pay without even realizing I had set up a bill pay. My direct deposit wasn't set up yet. Easy to tell what happened. What wasn't was the poor level of service I received with this very simple and understandable problem. It took 11 e-mails to resolve the total problem.
In these e-mails was very corporate copy and paste information for the most part, save one associate who took the time to walk me through my misunderstanding and caught my second online banking mistake. The others failed to notice the full repercussions of the problem and did not follow up. The single simple problem escalated to three and now the fourth. Three overdrafts (As their Bill pay is set to always try to pay three times, very predatory behavior in my mind in line with the abuse of paying the largest items first, so all the tiny transactions can trigger maximum NSF fees) and my online banking locked. The overdrafts were resolved. The online banking I was told was fine, then I was told it wasn't, then it was... 30 days later with my direct deposit in place and the bank canceled my bill pay. Now the mortgage is late as well as other accounts.
Bill pay is canceled for abusive account holders, especially in the early stages of an account. I however, was in touch with Discover Bank non-stop to make sure everything worked out and still got shut out. This morning I called again and I was informed I would have to call their online banking to resolve on my own time. I called the number provided, it is collections. My assumptions were correct, and the associates put there to help me have their hands tied on basic customer service, with automated background programs furthering the frustration of the very customers Discover is trying to draw in. I do not recommend Discover. I am terminating the account. MY Credit Union may not be as convenient, but I know they will take care of my concerns and aid me in managing my funds.

I was unable to access or was frozen out of my online account several times in the past year and recently could not make a phone deposit after trying for an hour. The last time I couldn't get into my online account was because they were performing a search engine update - this was during normal business hours, when most banks perform this in the wee hours of the morning so as not to inconvenience too many people. To make a long sordid story short: I needed to transfer some funds out of Discover into another of my banks. (I was in vacationing in Canada and needed to use that other bank's card to withdraw funds). The evening before I left for Canada, I called Discover and had the rep walk me through what I needed to do to transfer the funds. I did what was required, and the rep said ALL WAS WELL and the funds would be in my other account within 24 hours. When I arrived in Canada and checked my other bank account, I found the transfer did not happen. I called and was told they needed a few more questions answered to confirm my identity (they did try and get a hold of me by phone, but my phone was turned off - so that was my fault). I answered all their questions - and was assured the transfer was on its way.
Because of what happened before, I called back a few hours later to confirm the transfer was going to happen, and they said no, that they had MORE questions!! I again answered them, and was told that without question all was well. The next day when the funds were supposed to be in, they again were NOT. I called AGAIN, and this time was told I needed to provide a fax of my license, ss card and utility bill. Being in Canada, I did not have access to a utility bill... So I asked if my birth certificate (with the envelope that had my current address on it) would be sufficient. The rep said she thought it would. I sent all of the above to them, called and was told they were sufficient proof. This was a Friday, and the rep said the funds would be available that following Monday.
That Monday I checked my bank account, and you guessed it: no funds. So I called a FOURTH time. I was then informed (cue Twilight Zone theme) that my account was being CLOSED. The rep said they were not able to confirm my address, so could not do business with me. Now, I understand the need for security and verification. What I do not understand is ongoing incompetence; being told repeatedly that something was the case, only to find out it was not. Also: at the end of each conversation, I asked each rep to send an email confirming that what they were telling me (that the funds were being transferred) was going to happen. NONE of them would do so. They said they did not have that capability!
Here's the "punch line" to this review: I was told the only way I could receive my remaining Discover bank balance was by check, sent by snail mail (up to 10 days). And guess where they were going to send it? To my "UNCONFIRMED" address... the one that they said caused them to close my account in the first place!!! In other words: Discover bank was not willing to transfer my funds to a CONFIRMED bank account (Bank of America) but WERE willing to send that same money to an "unconfirmed" home address! I had no choice but to accept the snail mail option - and of course then was incapable of accessing those funds in Canada (3000 miles away). There's even more to this horror story, but I will end for the sake of brevity (and sanity - I can't stand thinking of what I went through with Discover bank one more moment).
