A few years ago Discover Bank made a decision to suspend customers' ability to use Zelle. They then claimed to have reinstated Zelle but I have not been able to use Zelle through Discover while having access through all other financial institutions I use. Discover has been the bank I use for my direct deposit. I lost my debit card and attempted to transfer funds via Zelle to another account so I could have access to cash and to purchase vital items, like food. Lo and Behold, no Zelle is available. Not only that their customer service reps don't seem to know or acknowledge that it was Discover NOT Zelle that created this issue. The rep kept saying that Zelle has "secret" criteria, even when I stated I use Zelle with other banks. I then say, hey I need to move $$ because you don't have physical branches, and he suggests I do an ACH transfer which takes 2 to 4 days, in 2024 I am supposed to wait 2 to 4 days for $$.

The direct deposit does not clear in account at a certain time, and now Discover is clearing withdrawals prior to deposits. There is nothing easy about this account. Even with the higher APY, Discover is simply a hassle to have. I don't know when I will have access to my $$ or have the ability to purchase food. Definitely was not a wise choice on my behalf to have my check be deposited with them. They are a good backup account but not a main one.

They will keep charging closed account as long as you will tolerate it. This bank is a total loser. Capital One bought it, but they are going to keep the Discover credit cards separately. Completely understand. Their credit cards is a mess. I transferred the balance, paid off whatever left and closed the account. Now, received $25.13 bill to pay the interest. Which one? everything was paid off a month ago and the credit card was shredded. To my great sadness, they don't remove my name from their database and they don't remove my account online. I called and asked the agent to make a note that if one more time I receive any charge taken from the ceiling, I will report them.

Do not put your money there! The saving account that I opened few months ago back in late 2023 was hacked and they can't do anything about it. When I first opened the saving account, I put a lump sum amount due to their interest rates are great. I had to wire transfer money from my other bank account over to theirs using Discover system. I have had a good quite amount of interest built toward my account. Earlier this year, I noticed that there was a wire transfer made consecutively over to the bank where I originally transferred the money from without my authorization!!! When I called Discover customer service, I was told that the transfers were made to my other bank account but under a different name!!! My 5k was vanished just like that by someone within the Discover bank hacked my account and they couldn't do anything about it! Just like that!

After two week of back and forth with the customer service and the dispute and fraud departments, I didn't get my money back even though they acknowledge that my money went under a different name!! How stupid is that! They know my money was transferred to someone else under different name using the same bank where I originally transferred the money from to open up a saving account with Discover. Bottom line, I am here to warn you to take your money out of this bank and I will fight them till I get my money back!!!

Over the course of a year, I have used Discover Bank for four CDs. During this time, two have come up for renewal. Their online renewal procedure is confusing; and ultimately, I was forced to use secure messaging to handle the situation. I received two responses that were contradictory. Given I was doing the exact same thing for both CDs, the action should have been the same. I was forced to call. I had to speak with three different people until I thought the situation was handled. When the actual renewal date arrived, nothing was happening, so I called again. I was told it would be expedited. I thought everything was fine, until I realized several weeks later that a duplicate action had taken place. I was forced to call again.

The representative said I was correct that an error had been made, but it was all my money, so deposit it. I felt I couldn't trust Discover at this point. She said she spoke with the supervisory team, and they wanted to talk with me. They were backed up, though, so they would call me. That team/person never called me. I sent a secure message, stating I wanted a supervisor to call me, as promised. The secure message response was, the representative didn't enter the request properly, so no one was going to call me. Unfortunately, I had a horrific situation with Discover Bank when I tried to open a savings account with them, also. That should have been the writing on the wall. So now that I have bad experience, after bad experience and I might add, no apology or acknowledgement of their mishandling the situation, I am done. I absolutely do NOT recommend anyone place their money in the hands of this company. Discover Bank can't be trusted to do business correctly and honestly.

Discover chooses to use their own definition of fraud and not the official one you will find in a dictionary. Beware...They will not cover you as they term it a billing dispute and not fraud. Commercials and all are basically selling you a lie. Marketing scam. In fact they told me that a scam is not considered fraud within Discover...Hmm. Then what is that classified as and what sort of recourse do consumers have if this is not considered fraud. In essence Discover is participating in fraud themselves by telling their consumers and potential consumers that they will be covered when in fact they won't. Interesting that that is exactly the definition of fraud. Way to go Discover, nice job. Will be closing my account and going somewhere that do not scam their cardholders. Too bad. Folks beware.

Fraud definition= : deceit, trickery. Specifically: intentional perversion of truth in order to induce another to part with something of value or to surrender a legal right. B: An act of deceiving or misrepresenting: trick. A person who is not what he or she pretends to be: impostor. B: One that is not what it seems or is represented to be. Discover will hold you accountable for what they say they will not. This includes scammers.

I opened a Cd and the bank mistakenly issued two CDs. When I wanted to redeem them, they tried to charge me two transfer fees! I objected since it was the bank’s error. They agreed to one. The wire transfer was initiated with help from a Discover bank associate. My confirmation numbers were useless! The wire transfer did not take place. MORE ERRORS. Three days later I still did not have my money. I called back, cancelled the wire transfer and asked Discover to mail me two checks. I asked for expedited delivery. Checks did not come. I called again- no tracking number! Finally, the checks arrived! Horrible SYSTEM. Best to pick another bank if you want to buy a CD.

Recently I got a personalized cash back offer tailored to my purchasing. Bonus. Their automated voice response customer service has got to be the absolute best in the industry. It didn't throw back my question saying I don't understand and give me options. It answered my questions every time. Very impressive. Also recently I was able to choose and design my own credit card at no charge. They have a number of services available in the way of banking and credit card purchasing and protection. Zero complaints here. It's always been top notch for me. Thank you Discover.

I sent my driver's license, but apparently they still could not update my birth year, unless I sent the back too. I sent all of this when I applied for the account, but they couldn’t access it, because it goes to a different area. Since they apparently did not want my money, I found a bank that did! Balance transfers might have 0% interest for a period of time, however the minimum payment will be 3% or more of that balance transfer. Yes, a lot of fine print - but they will not tell you this outright. Your minimum payment becomes huge. I had to get another credit card and transfer my balance, transfer so I have 0 balance. I will never use my Discover card for any large purchase or balance transfer again. They are corrupt, crooks who do not care what they take from you, even if your minimum becomes three to four times higher than another card with reasonable rates. Disgusting!!!! Lack empathy and support for unique situation that present from a domestic violence victim standpoint. They only follow specific guidelines and if you don't fit the guide you can't get a bank acct. When you have to live in a constant state of fear due to your hx of violence received. I don't think you would want to put your real address out there. You don't want to expose yourself and lead your abuser to come and find you. Yes, cyber risk is possible. I think Discover and the Federal Bank Regulation Administration should consider making some changes reference to these unique situations with victims of violence. Not all people that do not present a real address but only a PO box are not money laundering.

I have state court papers to prove that I was hurt and in a state of persecution and fear. I don't want to really be part of a bank that doesn't even try to help and find solutions. I didn't ask to live this way but I need to remain safe and not put my real address out there and no one wants to share their address and put them self at risk. The state advises for protection using in place a PO box address. Read about domestic violence victim and the confidentiality of address. I make my statement so no victim of domestic or economic abuse try to apply for banking with Discover because you will be denied and not understood if you do not present a real address. (c) I noticed in September and saw the account was not closed so wanted to close the CD. I called discover bank to check if they can locate my maturity instructions and they said it will take them few days to do so. I also asked if I closed the account that day on Sept 14, I would incur an early withdrawal penalty of $24. Even if I waited few more days for the decision to come through, the early withdrawal penalty would be few more cents only. They said they would call me on Tue.

    (d) Nobody called me on Tue and they called me on Wed, left me a message. Also sent me secure message to contact. I called them and now they say the early withdrawal penalty would be some $700. This behavior from Discover is totally unacceptable. I feel cheated. If I call Discover, they start asking me for proofs, refuse to send info via secure message and there is no way to hold them accountable to what their reps say on phone.

The worst bank I’ve ever seen. If you plan to open an account with this bank, first read this: 3 months ago I ordered a credit card from the Discovery Bank, and I was interested in the fact that they quickly approve the credit limit, the card quickly approved me, delivered in 14 days, but I could only use it for one month. Then I got a message that I had to confirm my identity with a notary within two weeks, or they’d block my account. I got technical support and tried to explain the situation that I work 6 days a week and I do not physically have time to find a notary (Generally with such a request from the bank in the first).

I asked you to extend that time from two weeks to four weeks, to what did the cheerleaders say, "Okay, four weeks is the maximum we can give you." What do you think? My card was blocked two weeks after I sent them all the paperwork. When asked why they blocked it, they said I filled out my paperwork at the wrong notary, I only needed a bank notary. After a couple of days (My card is still blocked) I went to the bank where I asked the notary to fill out the correct document, everything looked okay and I sent it. 10 days later I called the bank and asked if they reviewed my documents, they replied that yes, but cannot accept them, as the notary did not fill in the field "Notary Commission/Identification number" One reservation, I live in New Hampshire, here do not use this number.

I have only one question, how a notary who checks my documents may not know, because the document says that the notary has confirmed them in NH. I asked them to talk to the manager of their department, and they told me he wasn’t there, but he could call me back in two days (it was 10:00 AM at the time) but I still had to go back to the bank and ask the notary to fill out my form. So I did, the whole story, in the column "Notary Commission/Identification number" Write "N/A in New Hampshire", send, 14 days, no answer, I call the bank, and they tell me that my date of birth is not readable in the document. (At that point I just felt like I was in a circus) 3 times I sent the document, and 3 times I faced incompetence of employees. I asked the support guy, "Can you read my birthday?" And he said to me, "Yes sir, I can see here *Calls my date of birth*, but the notary’s department said it’s unreadable, so I can’t help it.

He added that if I didn’t confirm my identity in two days my account would be completely blocked. I asked you to talk to the manager, and I was told that he wasn’t there as usual, but he could call me back. SPOILER: The manager hasn’t called me once. At the end, I was told that if I didn’t confirm my identity in two days, my account would be permanently blocked. I did all the same waiting 14 days, and I got a message that my account had been blocked. I’m dialling the bank to find out what’s wrong again. Why this time they could not confirm the document. The support person says, "I see the comment that we called the notary once, he didn’t pick up, so we couldn’t confirm your identity. We cannot recreate your account because it is blocked, you can try to create a new one." Here’s what I can tell you. No company or bank has sucked as much nerve as Discovery Bank. I think if there’s a bank in Hell, it’s called Discovery Bank.

As a result, I used a card for 1 month, spent 64 dollars out of 1000, (I paid it before state) And then try to prove that a real person and 2 months met with employees of the Discovery Bank who are either not so interested in their work that would Google that HX could have other laws. The labor is so not motivated to provide quality service that even after two requests to contact the manager, the manager can call you back only in a dream. Either Discovery Bank decided to recruit Or the Discovery Bank decided to recruit people who can’t parse complex numbers, like dates of birth. I don’t know, you’ll deduce for yourself. But I assure you, if you have the opportunity to open an account with another bank, in any case, TD Bank, American Bank, Chase Bank, open there, avoid Discovery, such experience that was with them, I would not even wish the enemy.

WHAT??!? I stated the obvious, "You're JUST NOW verifying my info?? What if someone stole my identity, you would've let them get away with it for over a year and a half??" During the entire duration of this credit account, I've never had ANY issues and I've NEVER received any letters from them.

They claimed the letter requested verification of personal info otherwise the account would be closed. I requested a copy and when I received it, I had to have my husband read and confirm the absurdity...it stated "We were unsuccessful at verifying your physical address therefore we will discontinue digital statements and mail paper statements..." Yes, you read that right! There's no typo or mix-up of wording here. I called again and, as dumb as I felt reading such words, I repeated their letter to them stating how absurd that was. If they were unable to verify my physical address, why would they cancel digital statements and send paper statements VIA MAIL??

The rep then tried changing the reason claiming they not only sent me a letter (that was returned back to them undeliverable) but "we called you and you even said hello!" I felt like I was being punked. I insisted I've NEVER received a phone call let alone spoke with them. They claimed it was 3/18/23 but when I looked up my phone log for that day...NOTHING! I then looked at the spam and saw that my spam blocker handled one call that day for a total time of 1:01 minutes (one minute & one second), which is just enough time for the call to ring and ring, my spam blocker to respond, and their Autobot to respond to that as a "successful call". I insisted they must use auto bots to call which the supervisor confirmed they do.

After they refused to lift the suspension, I mailed a certified letter including a copy of my phone record, a copy of the letter I requested that I didn't receive prior to all of this (highlighting at no time did they state my account was at risk) AND they KNEW I never received the letter since it was returned, The letter only stated the type of statements would change, NOT that my account would be closed. I also included a full detailed letter of the unjust circumstances. I FILED COMPLAINTS WITH BBB and am still fighting.

DISCOVER CAUSED MY CREDIT SCORE TO DECREASE BY 38 POINTS! The disgusting thing is that I actually have a negative balance of $30 which means THEY OWE ME $30! My credit has suffered greatly because it shows the creditor closed the account, it lowered the max limit which changed my debt: limit ratio, and I'm shorter one card which also took a toll on my score. THIS WAS COMPLETELY UNPREVENTABLE SINCE I WAS DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT. They refuse to reopen the account while they continue holding onto my $30 extra that I paid as well as MAILING ME STATEMENTS on my 'closed account.' I asked why they didn't contact me through THEIR app since they send other notices and such through there. They claimed the app isn't linked to them...REALLY? That's unsecured and scary!!

They have done nothing to resolve this despite a few representatives acknowledging how wrong this was. On the flip side, I have AMEX Hilton which I'm extremely happy with! They contacted me before letting Columbian scam charges go through and prevented a big mess. They have been very stable, reliable, and I've even been able to add my 2 young adult kids to the account to help them kickstart their credit.

AMEX has limits you can set, freezing the card via their easy app for emergencies, free credit management, free perks, EXCELLENT live help 24/7, the list goes on. I couldn't be happier with AMEX but I also couldn't be more appalled that such a credit company as Discover can get away with ruining someone's credit for NO LOGICAL REASON! I wish I could post photos to show their disgusting ways since I would most likely question the validity of this since it sounds completely irrational. I'll check back to see if they update with that option...PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW! Also, on their site, they wouldn't allow me to leave a review. Interestingly convenient

I have been banking with Discover Bank for over a month now, and honestly it's been a pleasant experience so far. Customer care is really helpful and very nice to speak to when I need to call in, the mobile is well-organized, and beautifully designed as well. The checking and savings accounts are FANTASTIC! No fees at all and they offer so many products and great features for everyone. I have not encountered any issues this far, and don't see me having any issues in the future. Discover Bank has been absolutely phenomenal to bank with and I would highly recommend them.

I took out a Discover Card in mid-May, 2023 to transfer a $4,000 Credit Care balance so that I wouldn't have to incur 27% interest on the full Care Credit balance of $11,000. I have until July 15, 2023 to pay Care Credit or else I get hit with this hefty rate. When I submitted the balance transfer through Discover around May 20, I gave them the wrong credit card number because for some reason Care Credit issued me two, but I didn't know that. I received an email from Discover on May 31, 2023 that the balance transfer was complete. I decided to check my Care Credit account and guess what? There's still a balance!

I also received a billing statement for Discover for the Care Credit balance so I called Discover. Guess what? Discover charged me for the Care Credit balance even though it didn't transfer over and when I asked why, I was told that it's a projection of my future balance. Like, huh? When I realized that I gave Discover the wrong Care Credit account number, that confused me even more because how could you transfer a balance from a non-existent account? When I asked Discover that, Discover said they would redo the balance transfer with the correct information. They didn't.

I am still being charged $4,000 from Care Credit and $4,000 from Discover who is doing nothing but letting it happen. Fortunately, I can actually pay off my Care Credit balance so I wrote Discover to close this worthless account. Here's my problem: If I didn't check with Care Credit to see if the balance was moved, I would never have known that Discover did not move the balance to their account. I would have incurred the 27% interest. I feel like these credit companies all work together to scam us. Do not get a Discover card. It's terrible. Discover is the worst.

Account Frozen due to an error on their end. Bill payment submitted for ConEd was mailed to my home instead of the business. When I called to ask what I should do, they froze my account with the reason "cannot verify identity". I was transferred to the fraud department, where I was asked to upload documentation. I explained this put me in a tough spot, I was asked to call an hour after upload. A day later, the account is still frozen bc there is an issue with my enhanced driver license issued 2 years ago and no additional explanation other than, one must wait a minimum of 2 days for the coach to review it.

The 3rd rep in the banking department I spoke with said they could not open the PDF submitted online. It appears that Due Diligence and Know Your Customer was not done properly when I first opened the account. My direct deposit is pending, will be rejected and I cannot access the money existing in the account. I am still waiting for a call from a supervisor. Should I say again how badly this is inconvenience me? That it can result in late payment fees for items that are due next week set for automatic deduction? How badly this is inconveniencing a person that doesn't keep cash on hand? None of this would have happened with a brick-and-mortar bank. Think twice before banking with Discover!!!

I used to trust this company, though I never had many issues to show they would take care of the customer. I've been fighting with them for six months to dispute a charge for a Kirby. Originally they refunded me until Kirby finally came to pick up the item (five months after I requested them to) and they recharged me. Now for four months, I have been asking them to refund me since I no longer have the merchandise. They only will if Kirby authorizes it, doesn't that define why I need the dispute? This goes against the FTC's cooling-off rule. The company has their equipment and their money and Discover did everything they could to help them out. I can't wait to cancel this card after 15 years of business. You simply can't trust they will follow the rules. I will be submitting Discover to FTC.
