Has been a bad experience since we opened our account. They're very slow to move money around, very quick to charge you. And very uneducated in banker law. Unanswerable security questions and just bluntly an unhonest bank. I asked to speak to a manager, lady downright refused. When calling to solve a problem they help cause, they still charge will you while "taking care" of it. Every bank is better than Citizens.

Don't use this bank. Don't get their credit card. While they prompt you to get their credit card at the branch when there is issue the branch tells you they can not help you at all. They can not even help you cancel the card either. You can't figure out how the numbers added up in their online system. Meanwhile, they keep charging you interest late fees. When calling the reps they like to throw a long list of numbers at you that make you really lost. Only if you ask them to explain the numbers slowly then they will slow down. After much struggles they tell you they can't do anything to help you!

Citizens Bank is absolutely the WORST bank to deal with. Impossible to speak with anyone that can actually. help you. The bank will return your payments via check (like it is 1082) when you have paid your mortgage, then charge a late fee. I highly recommend that you seek out any other bank except for Citizens Bank.

We got a gap insurance and the warranty was from them too. On 01-31-2024 my car was total loss and the dealership did all the process that have to be done, I have copies of everything, but Citizen Bank have done the opposite. They had still my money which is close to 2K, I have spoken to them, (many different people, supervisors) and they put up excuses and have not taking the time to work with me. Not wondering the bank are rich, they use people's money to create a profit and now they still them. I've been with Citizens from back to the '70s when it was Girard, then Mellon, and now Citizens. Never had a problem up until now. I had to talk to my very scared granddaughter to put her money in the bank because it's safer. She has a disability and sometimes has trouble understating. Around 8/15 someone stole her card and I called up immediately to stop it. I was told that they did it and were sending a new card. 2 weeks later, we didn't get it so I called. I was told that the card was not stopped or a new one issued.

By this time someone had stolen over $400 from her account so I called again and they put a stop on it and opened a claim. Two days later there were 2 more charges. So, I went to the bank and the manager was helpful and gave her a new card. In the meantime, I took her money out of it and put it into my savings account. Today I got an overdraft letter. I called them and got a moron so I asked for a manager. Next thing I knew I was disconnected. Well, they lost all of our business. You don't mess around with a student's money.

The rest of the bank and the people That work there are probably great people and it is most likely the who own the bank that are some of the worst people in the world! There is no rating that I could give that could be as low as a one star rating. They deserve a -100 star rating. they have ruined my business and they lied about my Covid loans and have been nothing but liars ever since Covid and it was only until I had to file bankruptcy that they finally told the truth that my PPP loan was forgiven. Opened an account with this bank when I moved to Vermont. I wish I'd never heard of them. A few years after opening my account I decided to hike the Appalachian Trail. As I neared the end of this once in a lifetime trip end my finances grew thin. I used my credit card for funds, maintaining all the time enough cash to pay my bills and reestablish myself after the hike. The bank cancelled my credit card without notice. Mind you my credit rating was in the mid 700s and I had no late or missed payments. They were charging me not only interest on my balance but also ten dollars a month for not having a direct deposit during the hike. Considering the fees you'd think they could have at least phoned me first to see what my situation was. I would never recommend this bank - it's a robot run bank with an attractive sales team.

I asked them numerous times to stop and was told yes this will stop but alas, this invasion of my retirement account continues and I am still receiving monthly checks that I didn’t ask for. I am going to close this account and move my funds elsewhere but this takes time and meanwhile Citizens Bank does with my money as they please.

Bonus offer is a scam. Would give negative stars if I could. I went through the whole bonus offer process (opened checking and savings accounts), set up direct deposit, funded the savings account on May 14th. On pay day I'm told Citizens rejected my direct deposit. I look in my account, the money I transferred in never arrived and the checking account was removed from my account. I chat with them and they say "We decided to end the relationship with you." No email, no communications at all that this was the case. My money transferred --- just no word about it. I ask why they "ended the relationship" and magically the chat ended.

I call, same song and dance with literally no explanation of why they closed my accounts and didn't tell me. No apology for the inconvenience of wasting my time, won't tell me the check number so I know they really issued it. Just a total joke. Customer service stopped responding to me on the phone call until I hung up, but that was after the told me "I should act professionally" on the phone after they told me they couldn't give me any information or explanation about this entire situation.

I hate this bank- I’ve been a customer for over 20 years and they can’t do the simple things! I use the mobile application and lately the mobile app keeps giving me warnings that my user ID is no longer in line with their current requirements. So I was instructed to use a web browser to log into my account and there will be a tab (Service Center) to click on where I can securely change my ID. Only there isn’t any such tab! I thought it might be the Chrome browser I was using so I used Edge… Same issue!

I tried Firefox- same issue! I then clicked on the ‘Contact Us’ button for live online help. In the 15 minutes I was trading messages with ‘Angela’ she never once gave me any hint on how to change my password online! She would answer back she could help me with changing my password then no replies for 4-5 minutes afterwards! I finally gave up and logged out! This shouldn’t be so difficult- and Citizens Bank shouldn’t have false information online as to how to change your user ID- all instructions online and at their websites says the userids can be changed by logging in online via a website and clicking on the Service Center tab- that tab doesn’t exist!

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and frustration with the services provided by Maria **, Home Equity Specialist at Citizens Bank. My experience with Ms. ** has been nothing short of misleading and deceptive, and I feel compelled to share my ordeal to prevent others from falling victim to her unscrupulous practices.

Upon reaching out to Ms. ** for information about home equity services, I was met with false promises and deceptive claims. Ms. ** sweet-talked me into believing that the minimum Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) was preapproved, urging me to apply without providing transparent details or full disclosure about the process. Ms. ** misleading representation of the preapproval status of the HELOC minimum amount was a blatant attempt to manipulate me into applying for a product without fully understanding the terms, conditions, or implications. Her actions demonstrate a clear lack of integrity and a disregard for ethical business practices.

Furthermore, Ms. ** failure to provide accurate and honest information reflects poorly on her professionalism and integrity as a Home Equity Specialist. By misrepresenting the preapproval status and pressuring individuals to apply for financial products under false pretenses, she undermines trust and erodes confidence in Citizens Bank's services.

I urge prospective clients to exercise caution and skepticism when dealing with Maria ** and to thoroughly scrutinize any information or offers presented by her. My experience serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of due diligence and vigilance when navigating financial transactions, especially with individuals like Ms. ** who prioritize deceptive tactics over genuine customer service. In conclusion, I strongly advise against engaging with Maria ** or entrusting her with any financial matters. Her deceptive practices and lack of integrity tarnish the reputation of Citizens Bank and betray the trust of unsuspecting clients.

My original home loan was bought by Citizens. It's a 4.3 fixed not an ARM. Last couple of years they've been raising my mortgage payments supposedly due to escrow shortage. But I get no notice of this or documentation supporting their reason for increase. Also my insurance doesn't send the cover letter of renewal til March 20th. Renewal offer isn't even received by Citizens until April 3, but they increase my mortgage payment on March 1.

When I call the company they are unhelpful and unexplanatory on the escrow shortage. This year my payment went up by $347.00!!! The only thing they suggested I do to keep my increase down to $900 and something, (which is still $100 more than what I've been paying) is to send them $3000.00!! There is no way my taxes and insurance have increased by $1500.00 a piece. I'm not behind on payments and never did a forbearance due to covid. I have always carried much more insurance coverage than necessary. And when I Immediately contacted my insurance company after the call to my mortgage company to find out why such a huge jump in payment, to reduce my coverage is when I found out when the mortgage company would receive the cover letter, or the final offer of renewal. I feel the company is being predatory to recoup some of the 9 Billion dollar settlement against them for some of their other shady practices against consumers.

To say that Citizens Bank is the worst bank I’ve ever worked with would be a gross understatement. To say that Citizens is the worst vendor of any type I’ve ever worked with would still be a gross understatement. After opening a High Yield Savings Account, and making two deposits totaling $11,500, they froze my account. I was unable to access my money. Why did they do this? They never gave a reason. My wife and I are current on all our taxes and always have been. We owe no back payments to any creditors. We even pay off all credit card bills in full each month. All this can be verified.

The path they gave me to unfreeze the account was pure bull. It involved getting a Hold Harmless Letter from one of the financial institutions from which I deposited money into the savings account. What the hell is a Hold Harmless Letter? Good question. No one knows. Not even those involved in banking! But here’s the thing. I had to be the one to contact that other institution. And Citizens refused to provide a sample letter or further information. They even refused to provide an address to send that Hold Harmless Letter. Under duress, I did as asked and contacted that financial institution. They did not know what I was talking about. They even tried to contact Citizens but they could not get acceptable information. They concluded that Citizens was likely involved in fraud, and thus, the other institution could not do anything.

So there I was. Citizens was indefinitely holding a substantial sum of funds that belonged to my family, and I had no way to get my funds back. I contacted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Better Business Bureau, my state attorney general, and my congressperson, among others. After they put me through hell for over ten weeks Citizens finally returned the money they owed me. They gave neither an explanation of their actions nor an apology. I always believed the safest place to put money was in an FDIC-insured bank account. Doing business with Citizens destroyed that belief. Their treatment of me went beyond incompetence. It was outright cruelty. And all I did wrong was having faith in the United States banking system. I cannot find the words to fully express the depth of my rage at Citizens.

I took a financing loan through them and there was some kind of glitch where the system thought I bought and then immediately returned an item the same day. This caused a lot of issues and when I talked to customer support I was told to return the item, when I talked to them after I returned it on Oct. 6th I got someone who knew how to do their job and was told I didn't need to return it and the problem could have been fixed in their system in less than 5 minutes by simply changing a few numbers.

The supervisor assures me everything will be fixed by Oct.13 and they will personally call me to let me know everything is good to go. They didn't call, I had to call them and was told there's a separate hold for $87 and it will take 4 more business days before my account is cleared and I can buy the item again. All other banks send alerts by text/email which also helps avoid fraud but not this bank, this option should be standard by now. Insufficient funds for a day result in an overdraft even though you deposit funds the next day, so your charge bounces. They somehow made my recurring transfer into a direct deposit instead so that I could no longer modify it and when I wanted to cancel the transfers, it took 1 hour with online chat - only for them to tell me I should contact my other bank. Other bank can't do anything because it wasn't through them. So I call customer service, 30 minute wait time to speak to someone.

I finally get someone from online banking on the phone and after 30 minutes, he tells me I need to file a claim. File a claim for what??? Sit on hold for someone from claims to pick up for another 20 minutes. The guy picks up and tells me I can file a claim for that issue. Tells me I need to speak to online banking! So here we go another circle. I told him they were the ones that sent me to claims and asked for a supervisor. He transferred me back to online banking but connected me to a supervisor who cancelled the transactions within minutes! So after 3 hours of internet, phone, calling a separate bank, etc, she resolved my issue in no time! She was very helpful but horrible service overall. I'm cancelling all my accounts with them as soon as this property is sold.

In February of 2022 my bank HSBC sold my account to Citizens. I didn't realize this and nor that it would mean various utilities and connected autopay accounts wouldn't be transferred automatically and consequently my cable payment was late by a couple months. I had no intention nor need to default and be late, and it was squarely the fault of this sale, unknown transfer, and lack of customer support. My then sterling credit, maybe 830 plummeted to 700 due to no fault of my own, which is extremely unfair. Not only that but when asking Citizens for help I was told I should have known better by customer support, which took hours to reach. The banking experience has been terrible.

Apparently, they hold transactions for days before they fully “post” and if your account gets overdrafted while those transactions “post”, you’ll be charged a $35 overdraft fee for every transaction. Even though you had the money in your account, when you made those transactions. How is that legal? My account is now negative $141 and they won’t reverse any of those charges. It seems to me, there must be some unscrupulous people employed by this bank and there may be a risk that their files could be vulnerable to breaches if they import inaccurate information from the web.

So a bunch of customers can't access their accounts online for over a week, with no end in sight. They didn't offer me anything more than that. I asked if there was any way someone could contact me to let me know when it was fixed, and they were like, "No, just keep trying. Someday it will start working again." Our troubles started when the joint checking account we used exclusively for travel and so rarely check was hacked. I caught the fraudulent charges on our joint account and was refunded the first time by Citizens and issued a new card.

I never used the new card and 4 months elapsed before we looked at the account again as we were not traveling. Citizens foolishly gave Visa permission to give the past companies recurringly charging the card the new card number. The only people were the past criminals charging the old card and they racked up $900 in new charges before I checked the presumably dormant account.

When this was brought to Citizens attention they said the fraud charges were past 60 days old, refused to refund us, and took no responsibility. Even though they admitted being responsible for giving my new card number to the criminals that charged it the first time. Needless to say, we are closing all our accounts and selling our Citizens stock. This company is not the same stable company that I worked with for years and invested in. Have had a proper (sufficient funds, sufficient and routinely deposited checks) account for 12 years. Citizens has held funds preventing purchases at grocery stores, department stores, automotive repairs and other venues. Imagine with an account holding over $100,000 not being able to purchase groceries, an air conditioner, lumber, shoes, travel expenses. This is life with Citizens. Funds get listed as pending or on hold and the merchant declines purchases YET the funds are clearly in the bank with a balance of $100,000 being the account's norm.

Another time, when the debit card was valid until the end of May, on the first week of May, I'm in a store with food items on a Friday -- card declined. Card says valid until the end of May --- 2 hours on hold on a Friday night. I'm told the card is shut off as a new one has been sent to me. I don't have a new card. The card I'm holding says it's valid till the END of the month. The whole weekend I'm told I can't access funds. I'm told to go to a local branch. They can't fix it on the phone. I'm told to go to a local branch. The branch can't issue a temporary card. I have ID, social security card, old card. Excuse is that it's "security". I ask what if I had been traveling ---- even if the card was in the mail or lost in the mail, I wouldn't have been home to get the new card -- Thus that's why you make the card valid till the end of the month (as printed on every card I've ever had),.

Hold times ---- if I call Citizens, I'm on hold at least an hour to get customer service. The past 365 days --- I've been on hold cumulatively over 26 hours (yes I've written it all down). Using our supermarket -- the ATM in a very local supermarket is now a video kiosk in the city. Having trouble there, the person on video said to speak louder and identify myself. What in tarnation? I'm supposed to state (with a line of 20 people behind me) my personal banking information in a crowd. The staff that used to be at the counter have all been down sized --- I waited 20 minutes to get to that ATM that is now asking me to give out private information in a busy city bank out loud --- These are all problems of stupidity.

The new interface on the website for my account has most transactions listed as HOLD, under a very finely printed word called pending. I spent an hour talking to a bank rep about what could be wrong with the account. Vendors are experiencing holds on the transactions but the rep says the transactions are not on hold (so why print that). The vendors tell me something is wrong -that the transactions are not processing. The bank says the transactions are processing (but they're not). End game ---- I'm transferring out of Citizens. It's been 5 years of declining services and not having ready access to my own funds has been terrible (especially during Covid lock down). Steer clear everyone -- trust me -- when the problems start happening no one can fix them. Steer clear.

I cannot even put into words how incredibly bad this bank is and my experience with this lender transpired. Let me just start by saying that if you’re looking to get a mortgage from a lender do not, I repeat DO NOT even think about going to this bank. You will be sorely disappointed by them. You see I began my search for an apartment about 6 months ago and finally found one. It made me very excited to find such a great property and for the price I found it listed for. I applied for a pre-approval with Chase bank initially because I’ve banking there for many years. However, I found out through a mortgage officer named Leon Gelzer that Citizens bank participated in programs to help first time homebuyers and grants and assist with closing costs.

Leon was very helpful throughout the process and I have only positive things to say about him. To say the least, I was incredibly excited and I decided to obtain a mortgage thru them. The process began with me submitting all the necessary documentation to qualify for a mortgage. Then, I received a commitment letter and handed all my paperwork to the COOP board for approval. One month later was I approved by the board. From that point on l, it should have taken about a week or so get the mortgage approved. However, it did not. Things went from excellent to worse because Citizens switched up underwriters on me. The new underwriter claimed that my DTI (Debt to Income Ratio) was too high due to a loan that was in my name, but I was not paying for it. The funds were coming from a family member’s account into mine.

This condition was actually satisfied back in December of last year by the first underwriter working my file. How the hell can the new underwriter say that this is a problem now when it was NEVER listed in the commitment letter? A question I still cannot answer myself, nor can Citizens. I got the president’s office involved in the matter, spoke to Leon’s manager Donna L. Hayes who could have helped me waive or exclude this condition. But, to no avail. I waited and waited for 6 months only to be told that they will not help me and waive this condition. Basically, I wasted my time with them and they refused to help me after my deposit was submitted to the seller. Thank you Citizens bank for the worst customer service I ever experienced.

On March 16, 2023 Citizens Bank offset a business loan debt from my personal account. Citizens Bank took $3000 that was sent to me from a family member to pay my mortgage and applied it to a business loan for an LLC. The business is a Limited Liability Corporation and I did not give Citizens bank permission to use funds from my personal account to pay the debt. I have a business account that is attached to the loan via my EIN number. My personal funds are protected by the veil of the Limited Liability Corporation. Just because the business owes a debt, the LLC origination protects the company's members. The business is not set up as a Sole Proprietorship so the offset was illegal. I will be filing a complaint with the FTC as well as the Attorney General's office.

I feel that the bank overstepped their authority and enforced an illegal tactic to steal money from a personal account. I am demanding that the funds are deposited immediately as this has caused a significant hardship on my family. If any fees are accessed during this process, I will be seeking legal action to recoup the fees as well. This is an abuse of power and trust and I will no longer be doing business with Citizens bank and I will be informing all of my network of Citizens Banks greedy practices.

I questioned it, but was told what was posted was what was received. I never heard the machine counting the money, checking it.… I followed up with manager and the higher office and after some time was told there was no over count of money that day. The money I had given the teller had paper clips attached and I was asked if I wanted these small clips back. That was a peculiar comment I thought. And so I will be closing this account. I have never had an occurrence like this before and have done banking over 65 years. The amount in question was $500. Too bad. My question to management was why did the teller not advise me initially that my amounts listed with the deposit were not what was received?

If you plan on banking online to pay bills or to check your account, you can forget about banking with Citizens. It takes forever for anything to load and good luck if you can even make it onto their portal. I've placed multiple calls complaining about this but nothing has been done yet. To pay my credit card (to view statement and then to finally make the payment) literally takes me about 1/2 hour. Go figure in this time and age. Their app also doesn't work well. Citizens Bank is trying to take advantage of people with their mobile deposit app. If you get your paycheck on a Friday and mobile deposit it in the app, they normally clear it by Monday. If a federal holiday falls on either that Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday they WILL HOLD YOUR CHECK for 10 days. The very same check that you can simply walk into one of their branches and cash in a blink, they will hold your money Hostage. Why one holiday day causes them to not authorize the transaction when a teller would cash it is the scam. They are betting that overdrafts will occur by holding your hard earned money. Their overdraft forgiveness is a joke as that is only one day grace. Again you will not have your paycheck that you worked a week to get for 10 DAYS.

I will personally be changing banks as this is a very deceptive practice. Citizens bank cs are useless. I have spoken to the Chairman's assistant at Citizens bank corp in Providence RI, and she is also useless. YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY FOR 10 DAYS. My wife and family built a home with Citizens. The home was transferred to a permanent mortgage over 7 months ago. We went auto pay because Citizens said, "Oh, here’s a little discount." "Ok, no problem," we said. Bank with Citizens. Well, here’s where things get super interesting. Our mortgage comes out the same time, each month, on the same day via autopay through Citizens. Citizens goes on to lock my mortgage account, report to the credit agencies, and make me lose 135 points from 800 plus to 650 give or take. The kicker here is, I am on freaking auto pay. The payment was actually received, just like it does each month. But some genius in their department did something with my payment that threw the system for a loop and it showed them it didn’t process.

Mind you, I have both the mortgage statement and the checking statement showing payment, plus where principal and interest, and escrow was applied. The October payment couldn’t process because they decided to freeze my autopay? How the hell does a company that literally has all of my money, has me set up on autopay, that can be confirmed through statements, freeze my brand new mortgage, mess with my livelihood, try to recoup money that didn’t belong to them and money that was already received, get away with this type of scamming? They essentially said they didn’t get payment and sent me to collections when in fact they did. They received the payment and now clearly much more.

I had to lay into their representatives and explain to them how I have a family, work hard, built my credit up over the years and have never missed a payment in my life. I told them that all of these issues are brand new to me and all of them are from Citizens and Citizens alone. Then they had the nerve to try and tell me my credit report was an error and they didn’t report it to them. I guess that’s why I can see a 30-59 day late payment for Citizens.

Citizens now admits that they made the mistake, and how very sorry they’re, and they can understand my frustration. I mean I can’t believe how angry I am right now with this organization. How does a bank screw up autopay from the same damn checking account that belongs to them, then go on and and try to take more money from me because they assumed I missed a payment? Honestly, banking with Citizens has been by far the worse decisions we made. I don’t recommend this bank to anyone, regardless of the nice interest rate. I would rather have a higher rate than deal with these life altering situations.

While the branch manager went out of his way to help me he was caught with the very same customer service that I was dealing with. I was at the branch for more than a few hours while the branch manager spent most of his time on hold being bounced around different departments.

I have jumped through many 'hoops' to get my online account back. The problem is that when you call customer service you are always connected to someone different who has a different process that they want you to follow. In other words they keep 'moving the goal post' so you can never accomplish anything. I have dealt with customer service from many different corporations including IBM, AT&T, Verizon, Fidelity and many more. Citizens Bank at 165 Needham, Newton was totally unprofessional bank I ever visited. Two associates did not know what they were doing and did not bother to find out how to do it but were condescending, arrogant, snappy, cranky, irritable and rude. It seemed there was no limit in how far they deviate from expected professional manner.

During my visit around 315 PM, there was no other customer and two associates were idly chatting. I asked the guy to find out why the address change was not made accordingly despite the letter acknowledging address change. Instead of finding out if account address was updated in the system as I asked, he insisted that the letter says the address is updated, the address is apparently updated and there was no need to check it at all. Instead of checking it out, he pointed and read the letter three times to me. He must think that his job is to repeatedly reading letters from the Citizens Bank to customers whose intelligence is not his match to understand a letter.

In fact he was the one who was totally lost, illogical and stubborn to understand that I was asking to straighten the discrepancy in the letter and letter still being sent to old address. I told him that there was no reason for him to repeatedly pointing the line in the letter that I fully comprehend. I asked him to check if account address has been updated on the system since as of September 16, 2022, two months later, I am still getting letter to the old address. Only after asking 4 times, he reluctantly told to the female associate to check out. She was no better than him. She demanded the letter from the bank again which the male associate read three times already.

So I went through multiple envelopes with address changes from several banks to find the letter from the Citizens. However, she yelled irritably "give me any". So I handed over one from Eastern Bank. Then she says "it is not Citizen's". I told her that I was looking for the Citizen's but she asked for "ANY". It was not so difficult for her to figure that I would not have multiple letters from the Citizen's. She found that the address on the system was not updated. They did not know why and would not pursue what was next step to figure it out. Neither of them was apologetic or knew what they were doing.

I asked the guy for his name. He refused and he started rambling nonsense and lying to the customer who just walked in that he was trying to help me but I was being rude. I asked for his name again. But instead he handed over the business card of the branch manager. I NEVER experienced this sort of absolutely absurd behavior of incompetence combined arrogance at other banks. I have always kept all my accounts are on auto-pay with HSBC and I missed one credit card and it charged to my HSBC account, welll apparently it did not, Citizen found the opportunity and claimed I had the account with them, so there was an overdraft fee, plus the charges for having a checking account I never opened. SO now I am in collection and they stated to me that HSBC sold all my info so they are entitled to all these charges.

When I got hold of a supervisor, all I got was a No-Can-Do attitude. They don't care if you have an urgent time-sensitive issue, such as a house closing. They just tell you Back Office will get to it in 5-10 business days, which means I won't get the necessary documentation for a month. And there is nothing else that can be done. I went to the drive-up window and attempt to deposit my check, and the machine took my card and check at the same time while shutting down on me. I asked the same lady if she could have someone in the bank to assist me, and I was told by the customer the manager said a repairman had to open the machine on Tuesday 4 days later.

I was so disgusted I went into the bank and asked the manager Lakesha ** and staff why aren’t they assisting customers with these two machines that aren’t working, and why are customers helping me more than staff. I asked, “Why not just place a piece of paper over the broken machine informing customers of the temporary issue."

Good heavens - yet another reluctant ex-HSBC customer based overseas. Citizens Bank has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. First, hold times to reach anyone on the phone is never less than an hour - never. No matter what time you call. Morning, night, doesn't matter - you'll wait an hour. There is no way to reach anyone by email or through any other channel. Second, no one on the other end of the phone has any idea how to help you. The first time I tried to transfer money out of my new Citizens account, my transfer was flagged for fraud.

I received an automated email telling me to call customer service to unblock the transfer. I called customer service on two separate occasions to provide the information they wanted, waiting an hour both times to talk to someone. Both times I was told there was no problem, and I had received the email in error. Yeah, no. Three days later, the transfer was rejected because I hadn't provided the requested information, and my access to my online account was locked. I am now stuck overseas, have no access to my funds at all, no access to online banking, and I've been sitting here on hold for an hour. I have tried to contact them on Twitter, tried to email everyone at the bank, even written their executives on LinkedIn. No reply. Absolutely awful. RUN.

I had been an HSBC customer for 15 years when Citizens bank acquired my account. I was a satisfied HSBC customer because they offered international wire transfers with online banking and a mobile app to securely manage my funds. Unfortunately, citizens bank only offers telephone banking for international customers with no way to provide us with access to our funds. Citizens provides no methods for transferring money overseas.

As international customers we can only call to check our balance, and are prohibited from using the app and online banking resources. A bank unable to provide access to funds is a worthless bank. To ask any questions or to make any changes to the account we must wait on hold for an hour to speak to the unskillful staff who are unable to provide any assistance.

Besides the horrible banking experience due to the complete lack of services needed by international customers and ridiculous hold times to speak to incompetent agents, citizens bank accounts do not pay interest and charge high fees unless high standards are met. In conclusion, if you are considering an economically sound bank account that features convenient ways to manage your money, run from citizens bank as fast as you can. It's a disaster.

I reside outside of the US and I relied on monthly wire transfers to my foreign bank. Due to streamlining operations, my account was turned over to CITIZENS BANK. First impressions are important. My first interaction with CITIZENS BANK was a phone call to get some info on how they handled international wire transfs. I was greeted by a yelling man chastising me for repeated phone calls. (I guess they have a quota) I took the high road and explained I was being proactive and looking to find out about wire transfers. She asked if I had an account number. (I did not since the bank sale was still in transition). Their operator told me to call back when I had an account....not a great start.

The next episode was trying to contact CITIZENS BANK to set up my account. Wait times were "up to one hour" at the best of times. More than two hours was common. Often you were disconnected or put on hold with the person on the other end never returning. (I spent a small fortune on international calls). My online experience was awful as well. The IT guy meant well, but when I entered a new US phone number for personal verification, my previous foreign number appeared, so I was never able to access my funds online and phone access was next to impossible.

On to the next chapter: I remembered a seldom used US-based credit card I possessed. I ended up making fifteen trips to a ATM machine (because of the withdrawal limits) to empty my savings/checking accounts to zero. I put just over 350 miles on my vehicle to accomplish this. After I hit the zero dollars mark I lucked out and was able to close down my accounts using their online chat. Amazingly the person I interacted with was super helpful and polite. Bottom line CITIZENS BANK is a mix of rudeness and incompetence. For brevity I didn't go into detail on all my phone (when I managed to get through) but stay far, far away from this bank, especially if you live outside the US. I closed my account April 4th. Prior to this letter, we had not received any paper or electronic statements on this account. There was no notification that the account was still open and being drawn down by monthly maintenance fees. We were under the assumption that this account was closed, as requested, over two years ago at the New Haven branch. As a Yale University employee, I opened this account for my daughter's college loan payments, because Citizens Bank has a special relationship with Yale. When I closed the account around July 2019, it had a balance of ~ $300 that I was expecting to be returned in a check.

When we called Citizens Bank customer service, we spoke to a Lisseth who could only offered us a 3-month refund of fees. When we asked to speak to her supervisor, Carlos, not only reneged on Lisseth's original refund offer, but showed no concern or assumption of responsibility for the error on the part of Citizens Bank. Carlos would not disclose his last name and told us that there was no one else we could escalate this situation to. He maintained that he was the highest level of authority and that we should be grateful that he waved the overdrawn balance. I did let him know that we would not settle for his less than empathetic response, and that we would be pursuing this claim at a higher level, including social media reviews if necessary.

There are no words for how inept and inefficient this bank is. Whether you're getting a mortgage, buying a CD, opening a bank account, or dealing with customer service, you will more than likely regret any and all dealings with this bank as I have. I had a business bank account at a local branch and at some point one of the bank employees told me I wasn't *allowed* to deposit checks made out to my name into my business account. He essentially made me open a 2nd account, a personal account, based on that lie.

I got my 1st and 2nd mortgage through them and both instances were rife with the most hair pulling, teeth gnashing, frustrations. From constantly asking me to sign and send the same documents I already had, to the massive delay in closing which included 3 closing dates being passed. It was appalling. Then there's the 5 year CD I bought from them which I was told would earn a certain amount. It's pretty simple math, until you consider who's doing the math. They outright lied to me.

Most recently, I got an MICC check from them which is a check they issue in the event a merchant can't post a refund to a business bank account. THEY are the bank, the funds won't post to the account, so what do they do? They mail me a check made out to that same business bank account (which was closed over 3 years ago). How do they not know WHY the funds won't post? Then it takes 4 phone calls, talking to 4 different bank employees to get the issue resolved and I'm still not convinced it's resolved at all.

I do so, he goes to transfer me and "tada", I get transferred back to the original call in number and I'm back at square one of "unusal call volume" and messages telling me to use my mobile app.

Finally a new agent from El Salvador in on the line. On now for 50 minutes. Finally confirmed that I am not being hacked and I have to change my password to correct the system error (I hate changing PW too often). Recommendation to the public - look for a local/regional that assures you that if and when I call for customer service you immediately get an option to speak to a real person AND once you select you actually get a REAL PERSON.

I am trying to register my car here in Georgia. The DMV sent over a fax requesting a copy of the NC title so they can get me registered. I made the first attempt (Monday) to get them to fax over a copy of the title. Customers service told me to have the DMV fax over a request, which they have done twice already, still no title. I called back on Friday and spoke with a customer service rep and he tells me that they do not have the title, it was sent to NC when I purchased and registered my car there. (I know this is not True.) I then called NC DMV and the supervisor told me that is not the truth and is not how that works. She then tells me that she cannot fax over a copy to GA DMV. It has to come from the finance company. (Which I already knew).

So I call back to Citizens and speak to a supervisor. She then tells me to have GA DMV to email the request, so I do. They tell me they don't do that but she felt bad that I was going through all of this just to register a vehicle. One week later still no title. I called today to check the status and another manager told me they put it in the mail and it will take 3-5 business days for the DMV to receive it. I'll be calling back to confirm this with another manager tomorrow. At this point I don't believe what these people are telling me. I have several car in my lifetime and lived in several different states and countries (I am a Veteran) and I have NEVER EVER had this much trouble with registering a vehicle due to the finance company not wanting to fax over a copy of the title. I'm trying to figure out how to take this issue up higher.

Not sure this woman was in fact a supervisor! She was not much help either. Asked for her boss, to no avail. My service experience ended there. She advised me to go to a branch. When I went in the branch, I discover once again they were understaffed. No one with any authority to help me.

I cannot believe that Citizens would take advantage of their customer who was experiencing a financial hardship. All of which had been explained to the rep on telephone. I know that some of the fault is my own and I was willing to pay some of the fees but $430 is insane!! I will forever be reminded of how they took advantage of those who needed a little help in this trying time. ** Gave them 2 stars because the rep in the branch was friendly w/ genuine concern.

Going inside entrance of building only has one atm and has the same issues as drive thru. When branch is open there is another atm (fairly new) which runs out of money also, so wait in line 20 minutes to do a two minute transaction. So sad this location has for customer experience management needs to step up its bar. Right now it is at bottom. Good news is that it could be worse.

Four months ago (during April), while Covid-19 was still in the upswing, I ordered through the Uber Eats app using my Citizens Bank debit card. Three different times the Uber Eats driver brought the food cold, and then on the third time, the driver brought someone along with him who was not masked up and was not wearing gloves. The bags each time were also open, or were not properly sealed. I complained to Uber for violation of Covid-19 and health food safety policies, who refused to refund my money and instead demanded I contact the business, who then blamed it in turn on Uber. I was left with no alternative to contact my bank and file a dispute with them as a recourse.

The bank processed my claim and said on the form that what I was trying to do was an option since the business was refusing to cooperate. Four months later the bank decided to overturn and give the money back because someone in the claims department decided to audit my account I guess. It's been downhill ever since. I have spoken with three people in the office of the chairmen. They have hollered and screamed me over the telephone, stating I will get no one there and it was my fault about ordering from Uber Eats and that I should've paid for a new Uber to take the food back if I suspected there was something wrong with the food.

One of the women who hollered at me suggested that if I felt so strongly about the way citizens bank was treating me, then perhaps I should pursue a case against them in small claims court to get the $54.00 back. When I asked her if she was really suggesting that, she yelled at me and said she didn't suggest that. When I reminded her that she told me the calls were being recorded she told me she'd have someone higher up than her call me back. That was a month ago. Then she hung up on me. I filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau and Citizens bank has refused to respond to the complaint so far.

Do not bank with these people. They are very abusive people. I even sent them messages informing them their actions are criminal in the state of New Hampshire and they have thumbed their nose at both the civil and criminal statutes. If you want to get anywhere with Citizens Bank, then you will need to pursue a case against them in court. Believe me you won't be the first person/organization that has sued them. Just Google search them. They have been dragged into federal court multiple times. They have lost almost each and every time. Some of the people taking them to court has been in fact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I think some of these positive reviews are fake. and that they are being written by employees.

I have been a Citizens customer for many years. I ran into an issue when my mortgage company charged me twice in one month when they were only supposed to charge me once. I called Citizens customer service and said this is my mortgage company which I had many years and I have had no issue with them previously. I just need to dispute this one charge. The rep disputed the charge and then had the three bounce check fees refunded.

The rep never informed me that my mortgage company would be blocked from charging me for the next six months. So when the next mortgage payment went to process, it never went through. The mortgage company said the payment was being returned and that they were being blocked by Citizens Bank. I called Citizens Bank customer service again and asked if my mortgage company was being blocked. The rep said no so then I tried to make a mortgage payment again and it was blocked and I continued to receive insufficient fund fees.

Citizens should be liable for my insufficient fund fees because their rep never informed me that if I dispute a charge, my mortgage company would not be able to charge my account for six months. I never requested that my mortgage company be blocked at all. I just disputed being charged twice in the same month when the mortgage company was only supposed to charge me once. I was told in order to get the block taken off my account, I had to stop by the branch in person. It took me 90 minutes at the branch trying to get my account unblocked. Because it was mission critical that I get my mortgage company unblocked, I was not able to address a previous unrelated issue with the branch.

I have since paid off my mortgage free and clear. I have never been late on my mortgage nor any other line of credit in over 21 years and was deeply offended to be charged all these insufficient fund fees when I had more than enough money in my checking account. The service at my branch (Naaman's Rd Wilmington DE) is pretty dismal. For example, the rep informed me that I was "pre-approved" for an $18K credit line, zero interest on purchases and balance transfers for 18 months. I said I don't need a credit card as I have 0% plus 2-3% cash back on purchases. Because I was floating all my debt on zero interest credit cards so I could pay off my mortgage early, I took them up on their "offer" because it was a few months additional of "0%" than what I was currently using.

Except the claim of 0% for 18 months on purchases is a hoax. Citizens Bank I am now told makes no such offers. It's supposed to be 0% on balance transfers but they don't actually give you the opportunity to make a balance transfer. They say you have to wait for the checks to come in the mail with the 0% transfer offer but no such checks ever arrive (for the record, I used to get several of these check offers a week from their competitors pre-COVID and still get several offers a month now).

It was an incredible waste of time to switch all my reoccurring monthly charges from a credit card that pays 0% and 2-3% cash back to the Citizens Bank credit card which is not only no cash back, not 0% and even charges you interest if you pay off the balance every month. This mistake has been costing me in interest and unearned cash back about $30 a month until I just closed this card out. It is very frustrating because it marks the first time I have paid interest on a credit card since 2005.

To top it all off, a representative from the company Chairman's office contacted me. I thought this was a positive development but it went absolutely nowhere. There's nothing they can do about a local branch lying about zero interest on credit offers for purchases because it was done in person there are no call recordings to pull.

While they can pull the recordings of customer service reps handling my request to "dispute this charge from my mortgage company just this one time" and then putting a six month block on my account without telling me and then telling me my account was not being blocked when I followed up on another date, they said they cannot be liable for fees being charge by another finance company as a result of their negligence. So overall I am highly dissatisfied and will likely close out my accounts and go elsewhere after carefully evaluating alternatives.

The total amount was almost $4,000, but with how they disburse the loans, there ended up being multiple separate loans. When it came time to repay the loans, my wife set up auto-pay, but unlike other companies, she had to set it up for each loan separately. One of the many loans was missed and not being paid. We started receiving "Thank you for your payment" emails with no other reason to be concerned. However, we were not informed through any means other than the account inbox (because everyone checks on that all the time) that one of the loans was missed. No emails, no phone calls, no physical mail, that is until the loan was already placed in delinquency.

I immediately resolved the payment situation and pleaded with Citizens Bank to retract the adverse credit reporting. A supervisor very politely walked me through how Citizens Bank "checked all of their boxes" and "did everything they had to" in order to notify me that we did not correctly navigate their unintuitive website/repayment scheme. Evidently, all Citizens Bank does to try and work with you is send ONE, count it ONE, message to your Citizens Bank inbox before adversely affecting young adults credit scores.

I recently made multiple purchases with by bank debit card. I checked my available balance before making each purchase. Citizens Bank encourages customers to do this via landline phone, computer, or an app. I discovered days later that purchases made on March 5th and 7th never showed up in my account. In fact, two of them still haven't shown up. The displayed amount available was actually less than stated. I then saw an overdraft for around $300. I contacted my local bank and they told me to call the 1-800 number. I spoke with three reps. ALL of them said, "This isn't your fault, this happened because of a technical issue." The first rep told me that I would NOT have to pay the overdraft since this was the banks fault. The other two told me I WOULD have to pay it. I made multiple calls, got different answers or was shunted on to someone else.

    1. I should NOT have to pay an overdraft that a technical problem created.
    2. I should not be penalized for doing what the bank tells everyone to do, 24/7: use automated banking features to find out what your available balance is!

    3. It is NOT my fault if the automated system displays incorrect information.

I contacted my state banking commission and was told that Citizens is registered on the federal level. I used the link they provided, contacted the federal office, filled out a 5 page online complaint form, then got the message: "We're sorry, this bank didn't register with us to receive complaints"! Seriously? A bank has to register in order to get federal oversight?

Citizens Bank customer service is lousy. Nice people, but the system won't let staffers help on a local level, you get sent to the 800 number, then wait 30 minutes before speaking with an agent who doesn't know anything and has to ask and put you on hold, from which you may be disconnected. If I am in a car accident because my car had a technical issue that caused it to not function properly, that is the fault of the car manufacturer, but if I get an overdraft because my bank has technical issues also not my fault, I have to pay!

I would not recommend Citizens Bank to anyone. In my experience, their customer service was unhelpful and unresponsive to customers' needs. Earlier this year, I noticed that my bank card was due to expire in a month. I called their customer service line to see when I would get a new bank card. I was told that it was already in the mail and not to worry because I should be receiving it within a week. I waited the week and, when I did not receive a card in the mail, I called them again. I was told the same thing as before and that it would be coming in a week. Finally, I called once more when the card was about to expire in less than a week. A third agent told me that it was in the mail and that it would be coming within a day or two. Surprise, surprise, it did not. My bank card expired and I had no way of accessing my own money in the account for a weekend.

I then called them and told them that my card had expired. Only then did I finally get someone on the phone who bothered to address the issue. That agent said that the card had been mailed out to me at an incorrect address a month and a half earlier. This is important because if the other three agents had bothered to look at the information they had and listened to me they would have caught the issue earlier. The agent then offered to send me new bank cards to my correct address "and waive the expedite fee". As if THEY were doing ME a favor by expediting a new card to me. I said no thank you and went to my local branch to close the account. I cannot trust a bank with my hard-earned money when they are this careless with their treatment of customers.

In the time I have been with Citizens Bank a number of issues have arisen, much to my obvious dismay, but the latest is the last straw. My ex-wife in the UK died in October this year (2020). Apparently she had spent the last months of her life in Rowans Hospice, a nursing home for cancer sufferers in Portsmouth, UK, where she had been well cared for. Her son by her first marriage, set up a fund for the for the hospice to which I attempted to make a donation via the Just Giving website. However, I had an email from them saying Citizens Bank had rejected the transaction simply because they are a company in England, which the Citizens Bank fraud dept regarded as suspicious.

I called the fraud dept to inquire and, to cut a long story short, they told me they had cleared the block that was on my account so the transaction could go ahead. I notified Just Giving of this and again they tried to make the donation, but again it was rejected. I called the fraud dept again and they assured me the block had been lifted. The following day I got a call from my branch in Dallas Oregon and was told that the block had been lifted to clear the way for the transaction. Again I notified Just Giving of this news and they attempted to complete the transaction, BUT, yet again, it was rejected. I made a further call to the fraud dept who again said the ban was clear from their end and that I needed to contact my local branch in Dallas. I explained that they had called me to say the ban was cleared that very day, which was yesterday (Friday, 29 October, 2020).

I further explained that I had just spent 2 days trying to make this donation in respect for my deceased ex-wife, but it is still being rejected, I demanded an answer as to why this was. The fraud dept said they had no idea and I would have to contact the Dallas branch which was now closed for the weekend. None of this made any sense, I even told the fraud dept that there should be no such ban on my DEBIT card, not even for foreign countries. However, their attitude was that they didn't care and the ban would be put back in place on Monday 2 October, 2020. I was furious as you can imagine. I went online and opened an account with another bank and will be closing my account with Citizens Monday Morning, enough is enough, this whole issue is a disgrace.

We live in the southern country part of Delaware. Nowadays our area is booming with construction. Commercial as well as residential. The area is building literally 24/7. Our closest Citizens branch is 25 mins from home. Not a huge deal. But it becomes a larger deal when you work 6am to 4pm everyday Monday thru Saturday. That limits your options of being able to get to the bank. Yesterday I needed to get money out and was at work. So to save time and for CONVENIENCE, I wrote that in capitals because apparently Citizens Bank don’t understand that word. But anyways I sent my fiancé and stepson to go to my bank with a check that I had written for them. Cash it for me and return with the money. Upon getting there my wife goes through the drive thru and is asked to come in.

When she comes in they play and mess around for almost 15 mins before telling her that “nothing is wrong with this check but we need you to go have your husband write another one for you. This one doesn’t have anything wrong with it but we can’t give you any details." So my wife asked if they would just call me as they have in the past for much larger amounts of money. The branch MANAGER refused and said that “it’s not my job to call him”. So what is her job? My wife went back out to the car to call me and that’s when my stepson didn’t understand what was going on. He took the check and returned inside and asked the teller, “could you tell me what’s the problem with this?” After refusing to answer the teller literally bypassed him in line and started helping another customer without any explanation. Even went as far as telling my step son, “I’m done talking about this, tell someone who cares”.

My stepson made the comment, “wow this is how you treat valued customers within your bank? We have over 10k in this bank and this is how you treat your customers and patrons in 2020. No problem. I’ll be sure to pass on my experience.” And he left. Never cursed. Never got irate. He was irritated but nothing out of ordinary. He’s thinking he will go back to the truck. Call me and I’ll handle it. Done deal. So he goes and sits back in truck. While they are waiting the branch manager comes out to the vehicles window and asked, “what seems to be the problem?” Even though she was inside and knew everything that was going on. She was even the one who denied the check and told us we would have to go back 45 mins away to get a new one wrote without any reason on why she couldn’t take this one in our hands. Not to mention the bank's closing in 25 mins.

After explaining it to her AGAIN she says to us, "I can’t tell you what the issue is but I can tell you that there’s an issue with the check." I’m guessing they are referring to my signature change because I’ve been signing my first name a new way after years of doing it one specific way. But if that’s the case. They could’ve called me directly. I would’ve verified that the check was mine and I signed it and to cash it and give her the money. Why is it such an ordeal to get money out in cash nowadays? Almost as if they are trained to be as unreasonable as possible and hinder the process anyway that they can. It’s ridiculous for someone like me who works for a living. So when the lady went to go back inside to wait on my call my stepson said to her, “you need to train your employees better with communication skills. Your employee blatantly lied to me and told me nothing was wrong with the check and yet that’s the furthest from the truth."

The manager replied, “how bout you get out of here before I call the police”. When police arrived they said “because of the way my son acted inside you need to leave.” The Seaford police never even looked at any video. They took her word as a bank teller over my son's and degraded his rights as a citizen. Making them leave for something that never even happened. Maybe there should be a better process for hiring the employees you have under your name. I’ve been with citizens bank almost 2 decades. And I must say this is the final straw. It’s bad enough I can’t find locations but far in between one another. Every time I use my card at ANY ATM I get charged between $3-$9. It’s just ridiculous. Save yourself the headache and get PNC or WSFS. Don’t waste your time with citizens.

The bank has made several mistakes and has not corrected them even after months of visiting and calling the local branch and calling the corporate office. They stopped sending me monthly statements not by my request and continued to charge me. Although I tried to correct at local bank they never did fix the mistake. They randomly linked my husband's account to mine. Then prevented payments for school Tuition from going through which quickly started to accrue fees. We would call. They would say they fixed it and it still wouldn’t work. The branch refuses to take ownership. They send you to a corporate number and then you are ignored. This has gone on for many months. I have since closed my account.

Nothing they offer or say is true. I received multiple mailings offering great rates saying I was pre-approved for a mortgage. I met every requirement and more for a construction loan. They were even going to match other mortgage companies' rates! Like I said, nothing they offer or say is true! After I paid $750 for an appraisal that came in extremely low, I waited weeks for replies to my emails. And when they did reply, I had to remind them of my loan details and resubmit documents I had submitted weeks earlier. Finally, silence for another month. Three months after I applied, I received an email from my mortgage salesperson saying I should apply somewhere else. Reason? They couldn't verify my income. My w2's that the government accepted for my taxes was not proof enough for them. They never intended to process or approve my loan in the first place. They took my $750 for the appraisal and they were done.

I was approved at Lake Michigan Credit Union 3 weeks later at 2.89%. My rate at Citizens was 4.25%. I don't understand why Citizens hasn't been investigated or convicted of fraud. I hope this helps anyone considering Citizens for any of their products. I wish I had looked them up on the BBB site where I saw 733 complaints and a current lawsuit against them "before" I applied for a loan with them.

Not enough real estate, high credit usage, etc. Unless they paid off my $458,000 home that's not true. My other cards have 0 balances. Before applying for credit anywhere make sure they don't use SYNCHRONY BANK. They did the same thing with my Sam's Club account.

They were trying to get me to pay service charges on the account that I had properly closed. I spent an hour on hold before and another half an hour getting the charges taken off. The gentleman who helped me was very understanding and did a great job getting the charges removed. Is this how they treat all former customers or just me?

This bank has been our bank for almost 27 years. When we moved to NH we started with them and have remained with them since. Customer Service is fantastic. I will say during this Covid-19 it has not been always easy to reach them by phone due to high call volume, but always very helpful. Also the financial group they have is great as well. They meet with you at your appointment time, and if you do not call to make an appointment they are calling you to set one up. Great bank overall.

During my own experience with Citizens Bank attempting to obtain a mortgage, the appraisal came in more than $40,000 lower than the value of the home. After reviewing the appraisal report, it did not take into account that the home - which is in a flood zone - was raised more than 10.6 ft into the area and was FEMA compliant. This renovation significantly reduces insurance requirements and is an expensive renovation, ranging from $50k-150k. They refused to change the appraisal and refused to refund the appraisal fee despite their obvious mistake/completely dissimilar comps.

After researching online, I found a significant amount of similar complaints. It seems Citizens Bank mass markets their mortgage business to collect exorbitant fees during the mortgage/appraisal process, intentionally plummets the deal or prices themselves out of the deal, in an effort to earn as much revenue from fees as possible. This evidence can be found across the mortgage business as well as other business lines. They should be investigated.

Tried reaching out to Citizens Bank Heloc applications department because the above officer was not responding for several weeks; on hold for 1.5 hours. Called back in the morning the next day. 1 hour on hold. Sent multiple emails, called several times, left voice mails to the person above...never responded. Reached out to him a month later. Said he would follow up the next day. Did not follow up. Wasted 2 months in total because of this person and citizens bank practices. I do not like leaving bad reviews but it is not right for people to be treated this way. I would suggest to AVOID dealing with Citizens bank on any home loan products.

The branch employee INSISTED that the debit card was good through the month of August. I explained I was LEAVING on a trip Aug. 4 and I would need to use that card. Today, Aug. 1 my card was declined at a store. So I travel 30-minutes to Citizens Bank ATM to draw out cash. GUESS WHAT? ATM will not give me my money and the branch is CLOSED. I call 800 number and the woman says 'oh your card is no good' (EXPIRED). Oh and did I say they wanted to charge me $12 to have a new card issued?

After a lot of panic and calls to file a claim, I asked the check issuer to please go head and cancel it since I was not comfortable with a check sitting in a random ATM. I asked for Citizens to please reimburse the check issuer for the $25 cancellation fee and they refused. Told me I should have kept the claim open and not have cancelled the check. I am sorry I did not want to leave a check stuck in a machine and felt it was my duty to tell my tenant what happened and perhaps to cancel it. I am glad I have someone's best interest at heart because Citizens Bank sure does not do the same for its customers. Over and out, I will drive 45 minutes to the Chase bank to avoid giving them any of my money. I suggest you do the same.

Worst mortgage experience of our life that we will be reeling from for years. Citizens Bank pulled their financing after issuing a commitment just days before our closing in late March after the Covid virus temporarily shut down our business. We had 130% of the entire purchase price in liquid savings and would have been able to make years worth of on-time monthly payments from our savings in a worst case scenario.

Citizens officials treated it as if our business would never reopen again. Citizens treated the situation as if we were abruptly closed permanently. Agents were extremely busy juggling multiple deals and would re-ask for the same documents multiple times over which wasted much time. Communication was good, but you have to stay on top of them to move the process along, which was difficult.

Underwriter was extremely tedious to a point that they acted like they were looking for an excuse to kill our deal even with 800+ credit scores and substantial savings. Once they pulled their commitment, we even offered to put a significantly larger downpayment and even pay a higher interest rate to save the deal, but it did us no good. Citizens Bank completely kicked us to the curb last minute when the Covid virus struck us, and now we are in litigation with the seller for a missed closing deadline. We are now paying litigation legal fees that would equal months worth of mortgage payments. Please AVOID using Citizens Bank for your mortgage and home financing needs at all costs. Biggest mistake of our lives was to work with Citizens Bank based on a personal relationship we had with their agent from knowing them for years. Never again.

I deposited a $5,000 check from my mom's estate account. The teller originally told me that the check would clear as a customer courtesy the next day. It did not. I called the 1-800 number and they told me I needed to call the branch manager where I deposited the check. She said the funds weren't verified. I called the next day and asked why didn't the check clear because it already cleared my mom's estate account. I was told by a person who kept saying he was a branch manager for many years that they had to protect me and the bank.

He then went to talk to his supervisor (if he really did that) and told me that somebody would call me back. He said his supervisor sent an email to the department to clear this up. He told me if I did not get a call then the check was going to be held for seven business days. This is ridiculous as it already cleared my mom's bank account. They said they didn't get any verification from KeyBank where it was drawn. This is ridiculous again.

When the $140,000 check came in after the sale of my mom's house Key Bank cleared it the next day. My sister who has Berkshirebank deposited two $5,000 checks and hers cleared the next day. I think it's poor customer service that they don't take care of customers that have been there a long time. I asked him if they could personally call KeyBank and find out that it was already cashed. He told me that Banks don't do that anymore however on their site there is a selection for check verification for non TD Bank customers. I have a lot more money to deposit in the near future and it won't be at Citizens Bank.

I've been given ZERO information about progress on the case/investigation, and have also not received any indication of my liability for additional fraudulent activity on the account despite my multiple attempts to get this information.

Right after this account was opened, I had similar accounts opened or attempted opening through several other banks, ALL OF WHICH, were handled and closed within 2 business days of me speaking with the other banks. If I could give zero stars I would. Reprehensible credit card company/bank. I have been a customer since 1992. I've been fortunate not to have to use any credit cards for awhile so therefore haven't charged anything. Today I received two letters in the mail (regarding two different credit cards I had with them) to tell me that my cards have been closed due to inactivity. Yes. You heard that right. I did nothing wrong. I paid every bill on time. And I received no warning letter prior to this to inform me that this might happen. They simply, undeniably pulled the rug out from under my feet. No warning at all.

Naturally I called to speak to someone and was told there was nothing they "could" do. It was policy. When I explained that I was in the middle of applying for a mortgage and that this would negatively affect my credit score which I have worked so hard to get up over 800, they didn't care. Too bad. "It's policy." I'm so upset and there is literally nothing I can do about this. I may end up losing my mortgage. The takeaway is this: DO NOT use Citizens Bank. And whatever credit card company you do choose, better ask them their policy on this. Guess I have to get better at reading the tiny print.

I filed a claim with the fraud department and my claim was denied.... Reason: they cashed them in good faith and I told them too late... Now my question is... If I told them let's say a day after would they have owned up to their carelessness... Good faith??? I entrusted them with my funds in good faith.

I escalated the claim to the chairman's office.... Get this.. She asks me my SS number to verify my identity before she would speak to me.... Nervously I gave her an incorrect as (one digit off) guess what.. she discusses the claim with me anyway., So much for security of their customers. Needless to say my claim was denied a second time. Just to let everyone know DO NOT DO BUSINESS With CITIZENS BANK. If you have accounts there move them out to a smaller bank. If you are in Massachusetts Century Bank is great! Citizens treats their customers rudely and employs unfair business practices. They are thieves. Now I have filed a complaint with the FDIC, Attorney General, and notified news media.
