This is probably one of the worst associations for Costco. The service is cheap for a reason because they do not want to pay for anything on a claim. I am currently without half my kitchen and a hole in my ceiling due to a leak from the dishwasher. The insurance company (now called Connect) won't send an adjustor to my home. We as home owners are not kept in the loop on communications between the adjustor and the contractor. We have to constantly call both parties to find out what is approved and what is not approved on our claim. Most recently I found out that I do not have a 'matching clause' on my policy which is why Connect will not restore my kitchen to what it was. This is by far one of the worst companies to work with. Please do not fall prey to their cheap prices unless you want to pay out a premium and get nothing for it.

As a Costco member, I've had pleasant experiences obtaining quotes from Ameriprise for replacement policies for auto, homeowners and umbrella. The combined cost of these 2020-21 premium quotes represents a significant savings when compared to my current carrier. However, after reading several dozens of reviews on this site, I am concerned and may not proceed.

I called Costco's membership services number at their corporate headquarters and expressed my concern about the volume of negative reviews of Ameriprise. I indicated I was a bit hesitant to switch to a Costco-partnered company unless Costco could assure me of two things: 1) there were no immediate plans to sever the relationship with Ameriprise, and 2) Costco would be wiling to get involved in any type of dispute between me and Ameriprise, if the need ever arose. The person with whom I spoke understood my concern and assured me that Costco would very likely have their escalation team get involved after a customer brought a complaint of this nature to the member services department. This was reassuring to hear, and I hope others who have negative experiences with Ameriprise do the same thing. This will be the only way Costco is made aware of the level of service being provided to their customers.

We had a relative pass away and we were trying to get some pension and annuities payouts from Ameriprise working with California State pensions. We had an inherited IRA account established at Fidelity. Ameriprise wanted us to open an account with them and we refused. We told Ameriprise to prepare a check for deposit in the Inherited IRA and gave them an account number. They prepared paperwork for us to sign which was incorrect. Admittedly we did sign it, however Ameriprise was verbally instructed that we wanted funds to go into our existing account at Fidelity. The check was made out incorrectly to us personally so it was taxable. Ameriprise would not correct the check.

Both the broker (Redding, CA) and the HQ in Minnesota were flippant and ambivalent. They did not care and would do nothing to help us fix it saying there was nothing they could do. DO NOT do business with Ameriprise, read these other reviews. bad advice, bad communication, bad service and then they don't care. STAY AWAY from Ameriprise.

While other companies are given discount during this terrible time, the horrible executive are charging me a substantial increase for no reason. Horrible company and they should be reported.

I was with my girlfriend At a park watching her son play basketball. When we returned to her car we noticed that hers and multiple other cars were vandalized. The damages were reported to Ameriprise. When the adjuster got the pictures from the repair shop he called my girlfriend and accused her of lying about the way the damages were done. He told her that the damages on her vehicle because they were on different places around her vehicle, were from separate instances and were done while she was driving. I was with her at the time on speaker and tried to explain to the young person on the phone that various other vehicles had gotten damages all the way around them at that parking lot.

As I tried to explain, the adjuster who sounded like he didn’t have very much experience kept interrupting and talking over me getting very defensive. I asked him how he came to his conclusion just based on pictures taken from the shop and without sending an Estimator to see the damages. But he insisted that we lied to him so he only approved the damages on the lifting door “which looked like something or someone got pushed into it” and not the passenger mirror that got broken off. I earn a decent living so I paid to fix the mirror for my girlfriend, but it isn’t fair that her vehicle got vandalized and instead of feeling comforted by the fact she has insurance, she was called a liar by the adjuster and her car wasn’t properly fixed. I thought that’s what insurance companies were supposed to do, take care of their customers and make them feel at ease. Instead of giving a person grief after they were victims of a crime.

I enlisted Colin **, at Ameriprise Financial, Heritage Wealth Advisors to manage my 401K rollover. It went pretty well at first, but then in late January 2020 I asked that we lighten up on equities because I was nervous about the coronavirus. I even hinted that it might be time to go to an all cash position. He did nothing. On February 11th, he emailed me an article on the Internet that said not to worry about pandemics they wouldn't impact your portfolio at all. I replied that I was still concerned, but he must know what he's doing? I guess we all know now how that ended.

If I hadn't asked him, politely, to move my money I wouldn't have been as angry as I am now, but he did NOTHING. I finally pulled my money over to TD Ameritrade and I'll save about $4K a year by not having a do-nothing advisor. To add insult to injury, Ameritrade took $75 or my remaining $275 after the sweep over to TD Ameritrade was nearly completed. I have NOT ONE SINGLE CLAIM with this company in my entire history with them. Both of my cars are 15 years old. When I ask why, I’m simply told that there’s more accidents in my area so they have to raise prices. I don’t know what’s up with this company. I know American Family just purchased them, so maybe they just want to gouge consumers more. I should not have this kind of rate increase to pay for other people’s accidents. Cancelled my account today and signed on with another company, who gave me a lower rate than I had with Ameriprise BEFORE they raised their rates. It pays to shop around folks.

Of course, Ameriprise is a lower budget option for car insurance. But I had no idea it would be so horrific. It took over six weeks to complete my claim. I had to make over ten phone calls and several dozen emails to get the information I needed. The omissions and misrepresentations occurred during every single stage in the claims process, from initial estimate to returning the rental call. In the end, due to Ameriprise's own failures, I wound up having to spend $170 of my own funds for the rental car, which I had to return before even receiving my total compensation check. Ameriprise would not even elevate this loss to management or receive feedback on these failures. I question whether their practices are even legal.

But when you go buy policy and call their customer service number they give you a different much higher quote. Though no information has changed between what I entered online to what was discussed on the phone with the rep. Rep pulled my online quote also but their quote was much higher. They say they did not have VIN numbers, but online it picked-up every piece of information automatically about my vehicles and drivers so they had it all available with the address, including model type, specific features about each vehicle we own. And the online quote they gave a firm number did not qualify that the estimate is out of nowhere. I consider this as unethical business practice, waste customer time having them to enter 5 pages of information, using their personal private information and use waste the time again to reverify every single piece of information on the phone. Waste over 30 minutes to give them much higher quote than market. Also brings Costco credibility down.

I had a policy with them for home/condo insurance for a few years. Then one year I rented my unit out and had to get renters insurance with a different company as they did not provide this. When my tenants left, I called to reinstate an old policy. The person speaking to me on the phone updated all the information; I paid by credit card and they emailed me the new home insurance policy which had all the information and details including start date, price, coverage. When I went to the Ameriprise website to check and possibly renew an auto policy, I found out that my home/condo insurance was cancelled and not effective the date they told me. No one bothered to let me know what was going on.

I emailed to ask what happened and got an email back stating that the policy never went through due to credit card issues. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with my credit card and I verified this. What irks me is that NOBODY from Ameriprise even bothered to let me know that there was an issue and the policy was cancelled. So if I did not bother to check online for a different policy, I would have never known. I would have operated under the assumption that I had full coverage. They let my coverage lapse and it could have lead to bigger issues and problems for me. I would never trust this company every again.

Over the last few years I have had multiple issues with them. Customer service has been so poor. I am also going to switch out the auto policy I have with them. Costco needs to know the issues. It is the only reason I am with them - because I am a member of Costco. Horrible service. I would never recommend this company to anyone anymore. They used to be good. Not anymore. When monies were inherited in 2013 the Ameriprise representative took a quarter of a million dollars and invested it in what were described as middle of the road investments with good potential. By 2016 we had lost 30K. When we went to a different advisor, a certified financial planner. He looked over the products Ameriprise sold and was explained that "wrap around fees" had made money for many people, just not for us.

When the original Ameriprise representative was asked for a breakdown of where the monies had gone, she told us she didn't like what we were suggesting and didn't want to do business with us anymore. The monies have since been moved to the independent certified financial planner and the monies have been steadily increasing. We still have an IRA with Ameriprise that was inherited at the same time. Every year it takes over an hour, most of it on hold, to get our minimum distribution. When someone finally gets on the phone, they are usually very nice, hence the two stars.

There was actually no damage to her car as a result of this incident, but she had damage from a previous incident. Ameriprise didn't do their due diligence and allowed the fraud to happen. When I first talked to them, I told them it was a fraudulent claim. In spite of this, Ameriprise allowed the scammer to send in doctored up pictures that were believable based on my car, but the repair costs were much higher than the pictures indicated.

In addition, the scammer put in an injury claim, and Ameriprise paid it. I should have taken a photo of her car but didn't immediately realize what was happening, and that it was a scam. I thought she was going to drop the claim like a reasonable person would have, since she didn't have damage. Instead of protecting me when it mattered most, Ameriprise recorded that this was my fault, and doubled my insurance. They also reported it to the CLUE database so that any other insurance company would also charge me double.

We have been Costco members for 15+ years; when Costco recommended Ameriprise I bit. I've been driving for 30+ years. My first car crash happened 3 weeks ago. I was horrified how I was treated by my own insurance company. I was driving up a hill at 30mph. As I went around a blind curve a big work truck with a trailer was completely in my lane sliding down the hill with wheels locked and crashed head-on and pushed me backwards down the hill. My car was destroyed. Other driver admitted full responsibility to police and to me. Other driver had no license and minimal insurance $5k. I have comprehensive, collision, underinsured & uninsured coverages, and tort.

When I arrived home I gave Ameriprise my statement, then again next day, then again on day 4, then again on day 5. Don't they at least record the conversations or write this stuff down? I had to keep giving the same statements because they never kept track that it was already done. Ameriprise Willy ** was the agent and he is despicable. His Pidgin English or Pig Latin or whatever it was, was unusual and VERY hard to understand. I was injured and out of work but he demanded that I legally release the car within 24hrs and remove personal effects so he could process the claim. Hmmm drive to a notary, collision center, post office, and copier service to accomplish this but have no car and was refused to receive a replacement vehicle meanwhile?

Collision center personnel were great. They let me know that they would not release the car to a salvage company until my items were out. They also let me know that my car was 'totalled'. Ameriprise didn't tell me my car was totaled for about 10 days; I kept asking when they were going to approve the repairs and get started. Ameriprise just strung me along with half truths & diversion. Ameriprise Willy told me that I had to have my car towed to my house to avoid paying for storage at the collision center and that I already owed them $1100 for services performed & would have to pay to release the car/tow home. Collision ctr manager warned me that Ameriprise was being deceitful and that they would never reimburse me for that $1100 if I paid; it was Ameriprise's responsibility.

Ameriprise Willy got on the phone with collision center manager and chewed him out royally, cursing, phone slamming, hanging up & calling again. Apparently this behavior continued repeatedly multiple times a day for about a week. Collision ctr manager said that he's never experienced such horrible treatment by ANY insurance co so far and he sees approx 250 cars/month for the past 20+ years. He said if I ever have another crash in the future he'd appreciate if I got my car fixed somewhere else if I still have Ameriprise. Great endorsement to 'GO TO THE COMPETITION' rather than deal with Ameriprise twice! Ameriprise Willy also wanted collision center to pay for several independent appraisers (at their own expense) rather than use their own expert appraisal staff, to reduce costs. Um, yeah, NOPE.

The saga continued. My phone messages & emails went unanswered except for form letter bot-responses. Phone & email tag resulted. I insisted on email correspondence because I could not understand Ameriprise Willy's backwoods version of English. After 2 wks of no results and no car repair I was transferred to Matthew **, the person who allegedly processes total loss claims.

Ameriprise's Matthew ** was just as bad as Willy. I received phone calls hourly to ask when he is going to get the paperwork from me to take the car because I am in the way by talking to my lawyer. He chewed me up & spit me out. I used call blocking on my cell because it was very disruptive at work on a daily basis to be called & abused, inappropriate and unprofessional too. Is this seriously the way Ameriprise works up a claim? Ameriprise Matt offered me a settlement of half of what the car was worth and told me I'd better take it because I was wasting his time/dragging my feet by calling a lawyer.

I felt I had to call my lawyer since being 0% liable in the crash resulted in my losing my car, not getting a loaner car, being out of work, getting harassed by 2 Ameriprise agents up to 10 times a day to insist that I comply and DO IT RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE ARE VOICE RECORDING YOU, or get collision center manager to comply (whaaat?) with their wishes, and having to buy a replacement car at my own cost. My insurance company sure did NOT appear to be on my side. I'd hate to imagine how I'd be treated if the crash were even a little bit my fault! I felt like the victim in all this and it wasn't even by the guy who hit me; he was really nice and apologetic.

Ameriprise is good at taking premium$ but not at all good at processing payouts for claims, they dig their heels in and refuse to pay what they owe. They also refused to go after the other guy's insurance company to refund my deductible. They said I can go sue him if I want to but they're not helping because there's no money in it for them. I should have left from Ameriprise before, I guess I will be doing THAT now before the rates go sky high with the 6mo renewal -just as soon as I report Ameriprise to the Pennsylvania Insurance Commission. Don't be fooled, Costco is a good company and Ameriprise is a bad company. I'm very surprised that Costco would associate with an unethical company like Ameriprise.

Have been with Ameriprise for 12 years. Have had a good driver discount for over 35 years. Never made a claim and have an excellent driving record. With having a low profile vehicle I hit a parking curb which caused damage to trim and bottom of front bumper. Ameriprise paid out $1,100 for repair. Received a renewal declaration which shows the insurance on this vehicle went up 300%, and overall policy for three drivers and three vehicle doubled due to the claim. The insurance policy will go up an additional $1,600 per year and surcharges will be applied for three years.

In speaking with Ameriprise I told them that is ridiculous and I’m now going to pay at least $5,000 in additional fees for a payout of $1,100. I was bounced around from the claims department to customer service and when asking why I wasn’t for-warned that filing this claim could not only triple the insurance cost on the vehicle, but also have the claim reported to a national database that will impact me when having to shop for new insurance. I obviously would not have claimed the accident and paid out of pockets if they would have informed me of the possibility of massive increase.

I even offered to reimburse them for the $1,100 they paid out..to no avail. Their excuse for not advising me of the risk to my policy was “that’s not the claims departments responsibility.” I believe that they should value the customers more by simply disclosing that the claim could have this massive increase. Extremely poor appreciation of a long term customer and calloused concern of financial impact to a customer.

After getting a decent quote savings of about 150.00 for a six month policy, I decided to switch. I have 5 cars and one is 30 years old, so in order to get full coverage they wanted pictures of all 4 sides. I called my previous carrier who came out and took pictures to begin my policy with them, so I forwarded those Pictures to them. This is when I goes south.

My insurance was due for payment at 1201 am on the 16th which happened to be Monday morning. I started the switch on Tuesday morning a week before. After talking to over 15 different people all telling me something different. They said underwriting hadn't approved pictures yet, it's now Friday and Molly was my last call on Friday after a dozen or so calls on Friday. She informed me that I should cancel my existing policy and call back on Saturday and if the pictures have not been approved yet for me to just put liability on that car and after they were approved full coverage would be back date.

So Saturday I called and was told that wasn't true by her Supervisor Jill. She informed me that a lapse in coverage with my other company would not be a good idea that I should pay the $680 to reinstate that policy and then they could insure me midweek after underwriting reviewed the pictures. And then I could cancel with my original carrier and go with them. What the heck. 6 hours of aggravation and lies and deceit. Stay away.

Based on a recommendation, I transferred retirement savings to a CFP w/ Ameriprise. They collected $500 to set up the account and take 1.25% every year of amount invested. They take this money regardless of performance, and my account lost money despite that the market was booming positively the entire time. The Dow, S & P, and Nasdaq, all trended up the entire time. The CFP's position was that he needed to diversify my funds from what I was doing with my work 401k funds and my work 401k was actually earning money. Basically, the entire 1 year experience with Ameriprise was disaster, not only because I lost value but also they are arrogant, and it took 2 months and complaints to authorities to get my money back out of them. They claimed they would waive the $125 transfer-withdrawal fee, but it didn't happen. They charged $125, reversed it, then charged again. So I need to elevate my complaint. This outfit is not trustworthy.

My last car caught on fire while on a trip to neighboring state & the adjuster made the process easy to deal with (I was all shook up & had no idea what to do next. I had heard horror stories about how companies would drop you or raise your premiums way up. They did not do either of those things which was amazing to me. I don't know what I would/could of done if they had specially since I was young and broke. So until this day I truly recommend them, they are trustworthy and have great customer service. Also their rates are competitive with other insurance companies if you have a new car.

I currently have a claim open with them for a minor fender bender. I have a deductible of $250 and the total repair estimate is $1,110 for the vehicle I hit, no damage to the rental car. After paying them for years (about 9 years) this is my first accident and they have been a nightmare to deal with. The man that took the information for my claim was rude and sounded annoyed. They initially didn't want to help me because they had my apartment number incorrectly in their system so they couldn't verify who I was, even though they had the correct address under my renters insurance.

The person managing my claim won't answer questions and instead answers like a bot. I finally got fed up and paid out of pocket but I'm cancelling all my accounts with them. I'm also putting a complaint with Costco since I switched because they recommend this company to executive members. I was better off with Progressive since the one other car accident I've ever been in, also a fender-bender, was taken care of quickly and with great customer service. Ameriprise is a joke.

The trouble started when Ameriprise refused to renew my Auto Insurance coverage after my disclosure of using the Car for Ride share purpose. The Ride share company offers to cover my car during the ride share hours. However, Ameriprise has not been innovative enough to identify the insurability of Individual during their personal driving hours. The Ameriprise Auto insurance cover was provided through Costco member services. I reasoned with both Costco and Ameriprise.

Consumer tastes and market conditions change with time, however Ameriprise has not been able to match the Digital Age with Digital choice. The inflexible attitude of a carrier towards its customers shows that they can let anyone off the hook at the time of renewal of Auto policy. Archaic systems and processes of Ameriprise is not in line with Consumer choice.

The people at Ameriprise are terrible, so rude and will do or say anything to get out of paying you. I was involved in an accident and the other driver had Ameriprise and since it was their fault, it was up to their insurance. I hope no one ever has to go through what I did.

My car was considered a total loss, first of all they wanted to get out of paying for a rental car, so I was without a car for 4 days. Once I got the rental car, they wanted it back before I even got my check for my car. I gave them permission to pick up the car from tow yard and I let them know I would be coming to get my stuff that was still inside the car. Before the company they chose to come pick it up even had the car. But when I went to pick up the stuff, they had all my things in trash bags. Some stuff was missing, damaged and filthy. Like I said this was the worst experience I've ever had. Think twice about what insurance company you go with.

I was stopped on the freeway due to traffic as was the person behind me when a driver insured by Ameriprise slammed into the car behind me. This caused the car behind me to slam into the rear of our SUV. There was severe damage to the two cars behind me and the rear of our car. Our car is an all wheel drive SUV in excellent condition before the accident. The damage to our car was not only body damage but damage to the transmission. Ameriprise was willing to pay for the body damage but not the transmission. There have taken the stance that the accident could not cause the transmission to fail and have refused to pay for it. The car is not safe to drive and had to be towed from the body shop to our house.

We had to purchase a another car so my wife could get to work. We have provided them with four signed statements from our mechanic, people who were in the car at the time, and from the used car manager of a local dealer that our car experienced no transmission issues before the accident. Now Ameriprise says if we'll pay to have the SUV towed to a transmission shop, torn down and the shop can clearly state the failure was due to the accident they will reconsider our claim. At this point the financial hardships to us have been considerable and now they want us to pay out more money so they can then figure out another way to deny our claim. Do not by any insurance from this company and I hope you never get in an accident with someone who has insurance through them. Don't be fooled that there is an association with Costco.

Ameriprise is the shadiest insurer I had owned. I joined them through Costco because of Costco's reputation. This is causing me to distrust Costco's recommendation of its affiliated recommendations and will no longer buy my car, book my travel and indeed purchase insurance due to my experience with Ameriprise. Ameriprise has made me buy insurance for 40,000 above my home value last year so I could have "good coverage and peace of mind." And when we had roof damage in January they did everything they could to not pay a penny on it.

They first sent us a small check for the amount of damage that did not cover half of the contractors estimates, yet when I asked how the adjuster came up with the estimate he did, they sent a "forensic company" come and give the reason for the damage, and although the original reason given by their adjuster was the same basic as the forensic company, they put a wonderful spin on it that it was a different reason and cancel the tiny check they had issued originally. You will only find out years (14 in ours) after they have collected all their premiums that they will not pay for your damages! Just beware before buying.

Reasons: I called Ameriprise on Monday morning for my windshield replacement and they hooked up me Abra shop for replacement. Abra called me again on Tuesday mentioning OEM glass claim is not approved. So frustrating thing for me is: why Ameriprise or Abra (shop) did not figure out that OEM glass in not acceptable on Monday morning itself I lost my day here.

Tuesday I asked Abra (shop) to go ahead with normal glass. They scheduled my appointment for Wed morning, I got call from them on Wed morning then they said they need to move it noon since they did not get the glass. Noon appointment they moved it next day morning Thursday morning and they did not call me Thursday morning. I made a follow up call and they said we need to move it again to noon with same epic reason glass is not received.

My frustration is why are they scheduling appointment again and again and ending up rescheduling. I need to leave my car at home, do Uber and come to office.

I am not worried about delay but what frustrates me is I have keep my slots free for Abra everyday to come and pick my car. Why cant they give proper ETA. Doesnt how late it is. For this reason I called Ameriprise insurance and they said, "We cant help with it. It's shop problem." My point is this shop is in network for Ameriprise and I pay premium to Ameriprise not to shop, so instead of taking care Ameriprise just mentions to me this happens. First of all, I would highly recommend everyone who wrote a review about Ameriprise to file a complaint with their State Insurance Commissioner and write to Costco to inform them about this company. IMO, this company should be shut down. They're only in existence to collect your premium, when time to provide service, they cannot provide any decent service. Having Ameriprise as an insurance company is just like NOT having insurance coverage at all.

I signed up for them because my sister-in-law informed me that they have a lowest rate. Since I'm a Costco member, I thought that it must be a good insurance company because it's associated with Costco. So, I have them for few years for both home and auto insurance coverage. Last year, when I sold my house and I told my buyer about Ameriprise Homeowner Insurance, he immediately informed me that his Insurance Broker can get him an exact same policy for much less. Ameriprise is functioned as an Insurance broker for homeowner policy in my case.

In regard to Auto, last year, I have two occurrences. First, someone rear-ended me, he gave me his insurance information. I then called Ameriprise and provided them with the other driver's insurance information with the hope that they would take care of the claim for me. To my surprise, the lady who works in the claim department told me that since the other side is at fault, I'm on my own. I should file the claim by myself, then hang up.

Secondly, my car key was out of battery, the key was inside my purse which is inside the car. Since the key cannot communicate with the car, it locked me out. I called Ameriprise's Road-side assistant service, I was told that a towing company will be there within 45 minutes to unlock the car for me. 45 minutes turned out for 2 hours, but no-one show up. Within the subsequent 3 hours I was constantly calling Ameriprise's Road-side assistant, at first, she told me that she'll contact other towing company and the 2nd company will be there within 1 hour.

Eventually, when no-one show up, I called back, they finally confessed that they only have ONE towing company in their database and that towing company is located in Southern CA. I'm located in Northern CA. Make a long story short, I waited until 3:00 AM the next morning, then a towing company finally showed up. I asked him where is he driving from, he told me that he's located in Monterey County which is 2.5 hours drive from San Jose. So, for a simple unlock a car, it took them 8 hours to provide this service. Fortunately for me, I was at someone's house. Can you imagine if I was on the freeway or on the street during the winter cold, I could have die without a car and a phone (phone was inside the purse inside the car).

Beware of service, it's non-existent and offensive: Today we found out our auto insurance had been canceled 3 weeks earlier. Due to a Credit card theft, 1 of the 2 payments was declined and while Ameriprise did call 1 time and left a message, they did not include in their message why they were calling. No further calls to say coverage was going to cancel. No emails. They did send a cancellation notice thru the mail and it was our fault for not opening the mail in time, we had NO WAY of expecting there was a problem. Our credit card was charged on December 1, 2018 for 6 months of premium. WE had no way of knowing they would be making a 2nd charge 1 week later so we didn't realize there was a problem. NOTE: The card was declined due to our card number being stolen and having a new card issued.

In all fairness, I accept some of the responsibility for the above. But, the real problem occurred this morning. I called Ameriprise to explain Credit Card issue and have our insurance reinstated, as was told by a customer service rep and a supervisor that Ameriprise could not (or would not) reinstate the policy. My only option was to call sales and start over.

I was extremely unhappy and asked the supervisor if this seemed at all reasonable, and she politely told me that's the system. Against all reasonableness and eating my price, (I need auto insurance. I have others driving with NO INSURANCE) I called Ameriprise Sales to buy a new policy. The sales rep reviewed old policy and said we would need to begin again, BUT I would need to send a cashier's check or money order and process could take up to 4 weeks.

I may not be the smartest human alive, but I now understood they didn't value customers who were trying to do business with them. In many years I don't think I have experienced anything like this terrible service or care. Nice tone on phone, no service or care for the situation. Addendum: 2 hours after getting off phone with Ameriprise supervisor, she called me to let me know Ameriprise would reissue policy. I told her I appreciated her time, but I had already been issued new policy with a competitor who was very happy to have the business.

As you can see from the many, many ratings of "1" on this website, consider yourself warned. Ameriprise follows policies that are completely different than other companies. Don't just "assume" they do what the larger, more reputable insurance companies do. By their unorthodox practices, you will find yourself in trouble when you need them most because you trusted them to honor their end of the bargain (pretty much why their rates are lower-their service is inferior). One minor example, if your spouse has different car insurance, they FORCE you to list them as a primary. Consumers should be able to CHOOSE their company, not be forced onto a plan. Why this matters? Your spouse and any other family member under on THEIR plan, can directly influence the rates on your plan. Other companies DO NOT follow this practice. Be careful!

In May I had a very minor at fault accident. Damage to car hit was $1003.85 to repair. The damage only amounted to white powder marks on the other driver's car that could be buffed out. Due to this incident my premiums have been doubled and I am now being charged a horrendous surcharge because the accident was $3.85 over Ameriprise's $1000.00 limit. After the accident, Brook ** the claims representative refused to tell me the amount that was paid for the claim. Their correspondence was vague, or non-existent. My rates have doubled, which has allowed Ameriprise to make up their $1000.00 loss in the first billing. In addition by refusing to inform me of the amount of the claim, they are not in compliance with California law, which requires that an accident with damage of $1000.00 be reported to the state in 10 days. The damage to my car was only $200.00. Since this was the only amount I had to go by I did not file the form.

Ameriprise is very difficult to work with. They bounce your call from call center to call center. Each time a new person has to put you on hold while they read the notes. My phone has a timer, I spent more than 30 minutes this morning, mostly on hold. A similar thing happened to my military son. He was hit not at fault, and Ameriprise doubled his rates, as well. Needless to say he switched to Safeco, and is very happy with their service. Beware of Costco and Ameriprise, this is really a bait and switch company. They only want you if you are perfect. By the way no matter what Ameriprise tell you, the state of California does not allow for first accident forgiveness. This was voted in by the voters of California in Prop 103. In addition they will not provide you with their surcharge schedule or the length of time they will impose the surcharge. They should have to provide their clients with this information. Terrible, terrible company.

I purchased a new vehicle and called them to transfer my insurance over. I had been on my parent’s plan and wanted to go out on my own. They provided a good quote so I said I wanted to proceed. Then they told me that they would have to send me a new application in the mail and it could take a while to process it before I was insured. I was appalled. Not only had I been with them for 10+ years but they wouldn't offer insurance coverage for up to 14 days? I asked them if they could email the application and they said no. I asked them what I was supposed to do since I had just bought the car but wouldn't be able to drive it. They said to call ANOTHER insurance company for automatic insurance or rent a car.

This is 2018, they should figure out how to send an email. So I waited, and waited, and guess what, the application packet never came, and this was a whole week later. I called them and told them that it never showed up and guess what, they said they could EMAIL ME the application. Can you believe it? I asked them a week prior if they could and they said no, and NOW they can? They are very shady. I downloaded the email and had to snail mail it back to them since they needed a printed out version with my signature (apparently). I priority mailed it on a Saturday, but Monday was a holiday so it was guaranteed to get there on Tuesday. They had previously informed me that when they received my packet, that they would let me know. I called them Tuesday night and they said they didn’t get it. I called them Wednesday morning and it still wasn’t there. I called them Wednesday night and they told me that it had arrived.

I asked them why they didn’t call me and let me know and they didn’t have an answer. Originally they told me that once packet is received it takes 1-2 days to process and then you are insured and they call you and let you know that and they email you the insurance cards. Today on the phone he told me that it would take 4-8 business days to process it. This is horrible, luckily I have someone to take me to school and work but if I didn’t then this would be a nightmare. This process all in all will be taking 3 weeks. I have a feeling that this horrible company wants you to drive your uninsured car during this time, that’s why they drag it out. If you get in an accident and then come crawling to them, your insurance rate will be higher.

More money goes in their pocket. If it wasn’t for the fact that my rate is so low compare to everywhere else (yes I’ve called everyone) then I would have left Ameriprise the day I realized they don’t offer automatic insurance. I plan on leaving them in a few months since my driving record will be clean by then. Please don’t make the same mistake that I did. Get your auto insurance elsewhere.

We are considering a homeowners policy with Ameriprise if they cover our location. You can email, scan, fax, or call to send info or request info. If the phones are busy the option to email or scan is nice. But their pricing could be a little better.

Based on our positive experience with Costco, we assumed that the company would thoroughly vet all the companies it brings in to work with their customers. One the front end, Ameriprise appeared to be a solid company with good customer service. They did a great job getting us signed up and accepting our payments; however Ameriprise shows its true colors once you have to file a claim. My wife was in her car sitting at a red light and was hit by another car then our home was damaged by hail and falling limbs; neither situation was our fault however they have penalized our premiums severely. Basically you pay for insurance year after year but are no longer a valued customer when you are in need of the services you have paid for. In short, avoid this company and go with another company. Even if you pay more, it's worth it to not deal with the frustration and disappointment Ameriprise delivers. Shame on Costco!

Would not recommend Costco Ameriprise to anyone I care about. They are super, super frustrating and aggravating to deal with. They make everything so much harder than necessary. When I have tried to contact them I have been led in endless circles of talking to people, literally for hours, with the conversations going in circles, and being passed from one person to the next, but never being allowed to talk to anyone that actually has the ability or authority to do anything. I have literally spent months with Costco Ameriprise trying to resolve the simplest of issues. It does not appear to be possible to resolve anything with this company. The endless stonewalling appears very intentional. Buyer beware. Costco Ameriprise customer service practices make them look like a scam.

Avoid Ameriprise. I dealt with the Providence, RI office and Ray ** (CFP, Financial Advisor) and Jacqueline ** made dealing with, transferring money out and closing the account so much more stressful and difficult than it needed to be. When the financial advisor and his assistant both failed to help me, I forwarded all the details to the Ameriprise Corporate Officers for help... They did not even bother to reply. Here's the short list... They don't return phone calls or emails, they don't address your concerns or answer questions. Their only concern seems to be making money for themselves... Their clients do not seem to matter to them.

As an attorney, I recommend to all my clients to avoid risk whenever possible. Avoid Ray **, Jacqueline **, and Ameriprise to avoid unnecessary stress and expense. Just do a few minutes of research online and also take a look at the SEC charges and penalties levied against Ameriprise for more detail on their behavior.

Costco promises that a customer saves $600 in average on auto insurance. We signed up online, answered all the questions and got a quote that was around $500 less than our previous insurance. We accepted the quote, canceled our old insurance and got new insurance cards. Two weeks past I received a letter from Ameriprise stating that they cannot grant us one of the discounts reflected in the quote and our premium increases by $670, which takes us above from what we had with our previous insurance. I had a long conversation with customer service rep, and then a manager, and was told that they received a report about a glass repair on one of our vehicles 6 months ago, and this is why they cannot grant us a “good driving record” discount.

In order to qualify for this discount you should not have any kind of claims for the past 6 years. They also explained that they run reports after they receive a payment from customers simply because the reports are too expensive. This is their business model. In our case we were able to reinstate our previous insurance, but still lost money paying Ameriprise for 2 weeks. I do not recommend switching, there is no real savings after all. Disappointing for Costco not doing their research properly.

Beginning last year, Ameriprise suddenly raised our premium with NO warning, because they said our stated mileage was too low. I gave them our vehicle's mileage which forced them to accept our low mileage and they had to credit our account. Then they began sending us regular mileage verification forms every few weeks, it felt like harassment to be getting mileage verification forms to complete so often. In March we had our very first claim since being insured with them since 2001. We were rear ended! We had only a two inch minor scratch in our bumper and our car is pristine!

The car that hit us had previously destroyed front bumper which they freely admitted was from a previous accident but claimed we backed up and wanted us to pay for their new bumper! The Ameriprise investigator was NOT supportive and appeared to represent the other party! It took more than a month to resolve the case in our favor. However, even though we were determined to NOT BE AT FAULT, they listed us in the system as at fault! How bad is that!! I CANNOT RECOMMEND AMERIPRISE AUTO INSURANCE. We were already unhappy since contact with our adviser had dwindled to nothing.

So, we moved our investments to a new company in mid January. We were charged TWICE the amount typical of closing an account, which by the way, is not just our Ameriprise account, but every IRA and every investment group we had we were charge $125 - which came to $650 just to leave Ameriprise. Normal fees are $75 per account. Plus we were charged service fees for all of 2018, instead of a prorated amount for just January. After numerous phone calls and emails to get our complaint to the right person we were directed to the Compliance Department. Then I asked why I had not been paid a distribution which was owed to me. No one could even find the account. After 4 hours, someone finally found my account and promised that the funds would arrive in my account three business days later.

I waited one day beyond the three business days to call and find out why my owed and promised funds had not been paid. The person I spoke with said the funds had not been paid because I had to have a special arrangement with my bank, even though all my other distributions had been paid to my bank account. Finally, the person suggested snail mailing me a check for less than the amount owed. I agreed just to end this horrible experience with Ameriprise. A heads up for those considering Costco's Ameriprise insurance coverage. As many would assume, I thought Costco would vet their service providers well and offer their members excellent service at a reasonable cost. The Ameriprise sales agent was good, assuring me of their "excellent service" and continuing lower than average rates.

I had my first accident in over 50 years, a relatively minor fender-bender costing Ameriprise $3175.90. I received no citations and no one else was involved. One of the agent's pitches was accident forgiveness. I called to confirm that and was told "yes" I had accident forgiveness for the first one. You guessed it. When the next premium bill came it was OVER DOUBLE my prior rates. When I called they verified (via the recording of our conversation) that I was told I had accident forgiveness but that was told to me in error. As I tried to work with the agent - and then the supervisor - on lowering the bill there was nothing they could do in spite my good driving record. Very disappointing experience!

Since that happened, we went through a lot with that insurance... Changed 2 cars, dealt with a hit and drive in the parking lot OF COSTCO, and must have paid our bi-annual cost at least once.

Almost a whole year after that happened, we get a letter in the mail stating that they cant continue to provide us as it's against their company policy to serve with a major speeding violation on the account. NEARLY A YEAR OF PAYING A HIGHER PREMIUM AND ACCEPTING TO IT BUT NEVER ONCE BEING TOLD THIS. Never once was it mentioned that this was on our history and that we would be removed come a year. This whole time we were under the assumption that we went through and discussed this matter with an agent and paid the higher premiums and were never told we could even possibly lose our coverage due to this.

NEVER TOLD OF THE POSSIBILITY EVEN THAT WE WOULD LOSE OUR COVERAGE DUE TO THIS. Got nowhere with a manager on the phone and now we must sit down and try to find another company. If we had been told there was even a possibility of losing our insurance from the START, we would have considered other options long ago. I have been a loyal customer with them for somewhere around 6 years. The behavior described below makes their claim “We reward loyal customers” a misrepresentation. They can make that claim only if you are never in an accident (your fault or not). I specifically asked them the first time I had another driver hit me and again when I had to make a uninsured motorist claim; will this affect my insurance? They flat out lied, “No not at all”. This came from one of their claims agents. I was just told (via phone) that they will not renew my policy because of our “Driving History”. “What history”, I asked? We have had no tickets or driving infractions and only two claims you had to pay for in the last 5 years. We have two cars and just bought a third.

Since 2015 we (three drivers) have experienced 5 accidents as follows: One at fault collision (my son hit another cars and cause damage to the bumper), three not at fault accidents (Ameriprise paid 0 for them. Other driver at fault) - two side wipes that resulted in damage to my car (one hitting party received a citation for failure to yield, the other did not receive citation because the police did not think the damage exceeded $1000, it did) and a rear ending at a stop light (all paid for by the other driver’s insurance). The last accident occurred last year 2017 Thanksgiving Day (an uninsured motorist rear-ended my son). This cost less than $1000 to repair.

Here is what I was told now (bait and switch), their agent I spoke to told me that their policy is not to renew insurance with this number of accidents, in a three year span, as it means we would file false claims. Excuse me! This is stereotyping slander on their part. I have in all the cases above provided them with every scrap of information I could gather (note they did no legwork at all. I did it) and provided it to them. I have provided them with proof of the driver’s identity and insurance information and they only paid for two repairs, the “at-fault” collision and the uninsured motorist. I’m being punished for things out of my control. This is an unethical business practice at the very least. They do not rewarded loyal customers with lower prices, in my case they handed out non-renewal notices. Rated 1 star because you cannot go lower.

Ameriprise has exploited and delayed the process of our homeowners insurance claim for about two years now. Their current delay tactic is to stall the appraisal of the damages even though they invoked the appraisal 8 months ago. We have been homeless for two years now due to Ameriprise bad faith and various fraud they use to deny coverage after they strategically demolished our home's interior then refused to rebuild or replaced our home. It is pathetic how they exploit me as a disabled veteran and have ruined the lives of our family and even caused the loss of my disabled veteran service dog. They are a vicious company.

Updated on 04/14/2018: This is a provisional review about a new positive development, final outcome of our homeowners insurance claim. I will possibly be writing a better one soon if Ameriprise keeps their promise they made yesterday about the agreement we finally came to. It took 26 months to get this claim resolved about major, extreme vandalism to our home. Even though it took forever with all sorts of delays along the way Ameriprise finally came through on our claim. We still have to wait a few days till the final settlement amounts and agreement is paid and carried out.

We presume that this is really the end of the claim and everyone including we the homeowners and Ameriprise can move on. Though they took forever they finally got it right. They tend to, as a rule, resist heavily to claims, as near as we can tell by reading other reviews and a lot of research we did on Ameriprise. On one hand they earned 1 or even zero stars due to taking forever and not being forthcoming as they could have been for everyone's benefit, but on the other hand they did finally come through so we can do the remediation and rebuild of our home.

We will increase this rating later, after they carry out their part of the final settlement we finally reached yesterday. We suggest that all homeowners should study how insurance works, the law about insurance, and how insurers tend to operate; do some good research now in case you ever have to file a major claim on your home, and that will make things go better for you, society as a whole, and even the insurance industry. Know your rights and the law ahead of time, and don't think it could never happen to you, because it can happen. That's it for now.

I shouldn't have to wake up every day and be worried about whether I have car insurance or not, when I A. paid in full, and B. confirmed that everything was good via phone. So then I went to live my normal life, well apparently I needed to wait 24/7 by the mailbox, because they claim that they send you some things in the mail that verify or whatever these scam artists pull.

This occurred in April, then I went to go pay my car insurance bill in full, and then an agent says that, "Oh your policy is cancelled, and you can't have car insurance with us?" Um What the hell, so turns out they pulled my insurance from me because I didn't verify some certain piece of information that they had "sent". After calling customer service multiple times, the only answer I have had is "WE CAN'T HELP YOU" So not only did they ruin my Christmas, they also put me in bad standing with car insurance, so now I have to pay a ridiculous policy (Again never had a late payment in my life). I had a person, I will not name names say "I regret to inform you there's nothing we can do."

If you want to have the worst customer service, the absolute grinches that steal Christmas from you, and you want to pay scam artists money then Ameriprise is for you. They were not on of the major insurance companies but it was thru Costco so it should be ok right... wrong! After having them for several years for both auto and home there was a storm in my area. I lost many roof shingles as did my neighbors. I put in a claim with this Wisconsin based company. The person handling it did not finish processing it and went on vacation. I continued to call but my claim was delayed. My neighbors were all getting new roofs. I had more damage than most. Finally the claims adjuster came. I was informed that they would pay to re-shingle approximately 65% of my roof but not the entire roof, wanting to replace sections of the roof but not all of it.

I complained that the entire roof should be replaced like everybody else on my street. Also replacing only part would leave me with a roof that would not match colors. Also the areas they didn't want to replace you could see where the shingles had been lifted up and I knew I would have trouble later. After many calls with this lady at Ameriprise who was very unhelpful and at times rude she finally agreed to send out an 'engineer' to evaluate everything. The engineer was located 200 miles away and drove to my house. I would think they spent more doing this... trying to deny me... than it would have cost to just replace the other 35%. They hired an engineer and had him drive a total of 400 miles. I'm sure that cost as much if not more than the cost would have been to pay to cover the other 35% but this lady at Ameriprise seemed determined to make sure they weren't going to pay for it.

The guy came and determined that those areas of my roof were not installed correctly. That the nails had been nailed incorrectly and that it would not be covered. Of course I had been paying for insurance on my roof for almost 3 years from Ameriprise but now I was being told they would not cover this because it wasn't installed correctly. Last year when it came time to renew my homeowner's insurance I get a letter claiming that due to an increase in claims in my state they were going to have to raise my rates. The rate had nearly doubled. They only stated that there was a number of reasons this could occur including a. b. c. etc but never fully informing me the real reason. I cancelled and found insurance at a better rate elsewhere. I kept my car insurance with them.

When it was renewal time for my car insurance I got another letter. It seems there was also an increase in the number of auto claims in my state so they were going to nearly double that price also. There is more to this story but there is too much to tell. I had nothing but trouble with this company. You may be fine until you need to file a claim and that's when you'll find out you've made a big mistake. It may be cheaper but you may very well end up paying more due to them not paying a claim well and/or the headache of dealing with this company.

I had investments with Ameriprise for at least 15 years+ and am a conservative investor. In 2008 I got involved with a REIT. If you are reading this, first and foremost, do not get involved with REIT's. Not only did I lose money every year there is no way to get out or move your money to another investment. It was never explained to me that this would happen or that it could go on forever before the properties in the REIT were liquidated/sold. I guess that is when you get the balance in your account.

The big mistake I made was trusting my advisor to not put me in something like this. I am now required to take a RMD each year but it can't be done. I no longer work with my longtime advisor because I moved all accounts in 2014 & 2015 except the REIT. If the value continues to decline and reaches a zero balance in a few years I assume it will be closed. I almost wish that would happen so I would not have to discuss it with Ameriprise again. In the last few days I have spoken to 3 different people regarding my RMD and have been given different information for each. I had several questions that could not be answered at all. A very annoying situation that I do not want others to have to deal with.

My wife had an annuity via Ameriprise, and for the last approx. two years she has been receiving annuity checks each month. The annuity payment are due on the 1st of every month. Ameriprise has NEVER made a monthly payment on time. Every month the payment comes in to our bank account on maybe the 3rd or the 4th or the 5th of the month and in the event of a holiday or weekend falling on the 1st. Payment is not deposited until the 6th or 7th. But it has NEVER EVER been received on the date it is due. We know two things. 1. Ameriprise is playing with the balance remaining in her annuity account and is retaining investment gains for itself. 2. Her monthly payment is delayed for several days and Ameriprise uses that money for very short term investment and retains the profits.

We have made multiple complaints to Ameriprise but got no satisfaction whatsoever. Ameriprise blames the banks for the delays, but they lie. We have other annuities that are always deposited exactly on time every month without exception. The Social Security Administration never fails to make monthly deposits on time. Every other entity deals with the same banks that Ameriprise does yet they get payments made on time. Be careful who you deal with!

My father was a long time investor using Ameriprise for decades, yet when dealing with this company has been the most frustrating of all corporations and businesses he had dealings with. Now for the record, I have been appointed by the probate court as the executor and have a letter of administration from the court and of course have a death certificate - so I am not just calling as a random unknown person. However I have been lied to many times, treated with respect when asking a question only to discover on a follow-up call that the respectful person was just lying to me.

As I write this, I am just days away from the 1 year anniversary of my father's passing and am still being "thrown under the bus" by this company as the probate continues on. I need records before my term as executor ends and dealing with this company is simply impossible. It is times like this when you really discover the true nature of a company, and it has definitely not been a good experience.

I paid for my disability policy for 20 years. When my husband died I needed to start collecting on the policy. I am the sole proprietor of a business. This means I had to send documentation of my income and expenses. I did not understand what they wanted at first. The problem is that the company did not call to let me know they needed something different. I waited three months. When I didn't hear anything I called them. I couldn't get through to anyone. I had to leave a message. I left three messages with no return phone calls. So I called my Ameriprise Financial advisor who called the Disability company on my behalf. I was extremely frustrated at this lack of responsiveness to my needs. I was a grieving widow. The experience with Riversource (through Ameriprise) made things harder than they already were.

Another aggravating thing was that the person handling my case told me several times that he did not receive my faxes. I eventually got a call from the company to say that my fax did not include my account number and therefore it was being discarded. The fax had my name and the name of the person handling my case. So I guess I am a number to this company, not a person. That explains why the person handling my case did not receive some of my previous faxes. Of course, they could have notified me of that sooner!

When I called the head of the department to complain, it was another ordeal. She told me to figure out the time of the call and who it was that called. I couldn't do that. So she explored it at the company. After a day she called me back to say that nobody had called me and the fax had not been discarded. So she essentially told me I was a liar! According to her I made the whole thing up! My financial advisor got a special fax cover page from Riversource that she said I should use. Ok fine. But why didn't the company give that to me right at the beginning? I am still dealing with this company. It is extremely frustrating. I feel very disrespected. It's about the worst customer service I've ever experienced.

My 84-year old mother and now-decease father paid into this farce of a policy -- in good faith -- since 1994. Now that my mother needs assisted living because she has cognitive impairment, RiverSource will not pay our claim in spite of the fact that cognitive impairment is one of the triggers that is listed on the policy. They sent out an assessing nurse who did a BIMS test on my mom. My mom was able to eke out a passing grade on the BIMS test. The BIMS test is unfair. The assessing nurse asked Mom after only a minute, to recall three words. If she had asked her to recall those three words after ten minutes, she couldn't have done it. Staff at the facility know that she has cognitive impairment.

Family and friends -- even her physician's attentive nurse -- know that she is a changed person. She used to be smart, sharp, and quick; now she struggles. If she could take care of her own bills, medications, shop for and prepare meals, etc. we wouldn't have moved into assisted living in the first place! Do they really think Mom WANTS to be there? Of course she doesn't, but she realized it was a necessity when she couldn't find a local, familiar restaurant. She has even said to us kids, "What is wrong with me; have I had a stroke?" Documentation that supports all the above has been submitted to RiverSource from staff at her facility and her primary physician. Still they deny benefits. Her 100-day deductible ended on April 6, 2017. In my opinion they should have begun paying her claim on April 7, 2017. I am incensed that a huge conglomerate would do this to anyone! Where are their ethics?

If something happens, they'll do everything possible to keep you from filing a claim via abysmal and slow customer service - and if that doesn't work your rates will skyrocket to cover every dime they give you and more. Had them 8 years for Home, Auto, and Umbrella - they collected tens of thousands during that period. I had one at-fault incident vehicle incident with $2,200 in damage. I paid $4,000+ in additional fees over the next 3 years for that mistake. A year later, after that accident was off my record, I was rear-ended by a 100% at fault other-driver with flaky insurance carrier (and even a verified witness stating it was all the other driver's fault) and Ameriprise said they'd be raising my rates again if I filed a claim through them. The damage was less than $1,000 and even with 3 policies through them they still couldn't be counted on. Goodbye and good riddance.

The repair shop said they talked to the dealer, talked to the insurance co, told me they all agreed it was my problem. I went down to the dealer and talked to the lady mechanic myself. She said the repair shop lied, they can not determine root cause for the failure, they can only fix it and that the repair shop did not talk to her about it.

I called the insurance co, and the story changed. Now it was only them who decides if the damage was because of the accident. RED flags everywhere, lies flying around. So, I towed it to a little shop and had them rebuild the motor. I had the insurance co look at it while it was apart, and they said go pound sand. I started an investigation because of the lies and sudden disappearance of oil.

Can't prove anything since the motor had no oil in it. Could have been that way before the accident. No problem, I paid to repair it. Here it is months later... My wife says, "Our insurance has been going up..." I said, "Ya, I got that ticket..." She said "Ya, it's 1200 dollars more a year now?" Wth? They have been raising it with a cute little letter saying they are 'readjusting' it. Stay away folks!! Bad news here.

Whatever entity purchased the company apparently has no intention of paying out claims. Their actions are fraudulent. We just received payment check for $124 to cover ice and storm damage for which their employee said was enough to cover damage. Then when contractor report submitted for repairs between $8,500 to $20,000, the same employee immediately stated they found no ice or storm damage.

The first woman I spoke to gave me a quote for $471 for 6 months, which I thought was great for 3 vehicles --- and a lot less than the $857 I was paying with CSE. I wanted to sleep on it so I called back the next day and the guy asked me a few more questions. One answer alerted him. It seemed the less than 10,000 annual miles that I drove one of the cars put me into a higher bracket. Actually I only drive the truck about 5k per year. Because of that the semiannual rate jumped up another $200! I said, "The rate goes up the less I drive?" He plugged in the numbers again & the result was the same. He said, "I know, it doesn't make sense huh?" I told him I couldn't go with them b/c they're crazy. COSTCO, you let Amex go, maybe it's time to let Ameriprise go too.

Yesterday on March 24, 2017 Ameriprise told us by phone that they will not reinstate our cancelled policy past the March 31, 2017 deadline they imposed to rebuild our home. They know our home was gutted by a contractor they approved that we heavily complained about. Our home has been left by the Insurer demolished in part including several walls, ceiling, down to subflooring, some cabinetry and fixtures removed including a toilet they left in the front yard. We were told to rebuild the entire home for just $3,400 after our Contractor provided them the estimate of at least $200,000. Insurer's are supposed to have good cause to cancel or fail to renew a policy that has a pending claim.

They told us yesterday we are to blame for the delays of more than one year. We pointed out that their own inspector found large areas still covered with blood and also found body tissue still present in the home as the remediation and demolition was done completely wrong as has been admitted to us and our contractor by the company that did the demolition work. Our policy should have never been cancelled, nor should the Insurer have the failures on our claim as they have had as cited here with many other issues caused by them. We have been told by several insurance companies that we are not insurable which we trace back to the poor service we receive on this claim that has forced us from our home for days now.

We were in an accident in June of 2016. We were rear-ended and then pushed into the vehicle in front of us. The police had our truck towed to the nearest body shop and we looked at the reviews and were satisfied that they could do a competent job. After a month of driving a loaner (a sub-compact Hyundai because they refused to give us a comparable vehicle to our new 2015 $47,000 F-150) for 31 days the truck was finally ready. We went to pick up the truck and noticed that the paint had severe orange peel on the entire bed of the truck. We brought it up to the body shop and said that there was nothing that they could do except for wet-sand it once more to "reduce the orange peel but because we did it on a hot day orange peel is a fact of life (maybe wait until it wasn't 95 degrees outside)!" So, they wet-sanded it one more time and it looked minimally better.

We brought it to the dealership to see what they would ding us for after noticing the paint because we wanted to trade in the truck at some point knowing that after having the entire frame and bed replaced the truck would never be right. The dealership said that it was one of the worst paint jobs they'd ever seen and they would have to take $4000 off the trade-in value of the truck. We brought it back up to the body shop and they refused to do anything else about it.

We contacted our adjuster Travis ** and he said if we would have used one of his approved body shops he could do something but since we didn't there's nothing he can do but we can sue the body shop ourselves if we wanted. Travis never advised us that we had any options for a certified body shop that Ameriprise would assist us if there were any issues. He lied on multiple occasions saying that he sent out paperwork yet never did, also stated he told us about the option of using one of Ameriprise's approved body shops yet never said a word about it. He was very condescending and rude during the whole process.

Two weeks after we get the truck back we get a letter in the mail stating that Ameriprise is dropping us because we were in a accident. This is what it stated. "First incident, not at fault, rear-ended collision." NOT AT FAULT, FIRST INCIDENT, those don't seem like things that one would be dropped for. Both parties were injured in the crash and they never once stated that either one of us would have a limit on how much they would cover. I was told today after an appointment that Ameriprise is refusing to cover any other damages for my injury and I would need to pay everything out of pocket from here on out.

I called and spoke to a very rude Sandy ** and she said that she left me a voicemail LAST June!!! I still have voicemails from last year and after reviewing them I never received one. There also is nothing on the paperwork that they send out after every visit stating "You have $** left available that Ameriprise will cover," nothing! Just out of the blue my doctor's office states that Ameriprise isn't covering anything else. Not a letter from Sandy stating that I have $** left and "Be advised after that's used up we can no longer cover anything." Not a phone call from Sandy as a courtesy stating what I have left. Nothing!

This company should be ashamed to have such people working for them. Every person I have talked to is rude beyond belief and is very unwilling to help. I asked Sandy what could be done and she said "NOTHING, YOU'VE RUN OUT OF BENEFITS!" in a nasty tone. Awful! I will never recommend Ameriprise to anyone! Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this company!!!

I was in a single car, non-injury accident ~3 weeks ago. My 2004 Toyota had an "unintended acceleration" incident. As I was parking, I applied the brake and the car abruptly accelerated, jumped a cement curb, grazed a tree, stopped when it hit a cement light post (Note: this is the second incident for this same car and it is a documented Toyota issue; the first incident was only a brief surge without incurring any damage.). I immediately contacted Ameriprise, the car was towed to an auto body shop. Initially I felt relieved for how easy it was to get the claim filed, the car towed, have a rental car provided. I also contacted Toyota to open a case to investigate the car malfunction.

Since the car was not drivable, Toyota needed to send an investigator to the body shop to download data from the "black box" for further analysis. I was told it would take a few days to schedule the investigator and was advised that the car should not be changed in any way until the software download was completed. The auto body shop was completely empathetic and complied.

Ameriprise, on the other hand, would not agree to any delays in their process, even though I explained the dangerous situation presented by the car malfunction, otherwise, it was unclear to me how ethically I (or anyone) could be expected to drive the car again, knowing there was risk of another unintended acceleration incident. Bottom line, after many communications via phone and e-mail, Ameriprise does not care. The assessment of the situation is that I am creating and have chosen to delay processing the claim so that the car can be repaired or potentially totaled. I am at fault for choosing the Toyota investigation delay.

The claims processor has been rude, argumentative, has provided conflicting information, ignores e-mails, threatened me with incorrect information. Although a rental car is available for 30 days, I had to return it after 14 days because there was no activity on the car due to my delay with having the Toyota investigation. I just received a letter from Ameriprise informing me that I must move the vehicle from the auto body shop by a date that has already passed and that I am responsible for the $50/day storage fees from the already passed date, going forward. I have checked multiple times with the body shop and they are not charging for storage. Ameriprise insists they are.

I am so incredibly disappointed. I even requested to speak to a manager, feeling that my claim processor was acting irrationally. No, apparently this is the Ameriprise "way", to treat customers like a claim that they just need to get off their desk, follow the black and white procedures. No consideration for the impact that a safety factor might delay the "process". I wasted my time by attempting to escalate to management. I don't have final resolution at this time, but I will be searching for a better insurance company to assume my auto, home and umbrella insurance very soon.

We filed our claim with our insurance carrier Ameriprise. I won't go into details but they are not giving us money to replace our car with a similar car. The same year, make, model, miles, condition and features. They are not coming close and we will be paying out of pocket at least $3500.

Since the accident was not our fault this has been a very disappointing experience. We have been very disappointed with their claim process. We never expected to have our insurance company give us a hard time when they won't even have to pay on it. They ran several reports which were worthless since they were different trims with many more miles. The condition of the car was not taken into account.

We have been shocked at this process and wish we had paid better attention to the details when we signed up. Since it was Costco we trusted blindly when we should not have. We would like to just offer our honest experience and save others the headache. If you never have a claim and you just want cheap insurance they may be for you but if you ever have any kind of claim you are in trouble!

In both cases, I was sent one piece of mail notifying me of the lapse. Since I paid with EFT, I didn't feel any urgency to open their correspondence. As a result, I unwittingly drove uninsured for a period of time. When I contacted their customer service to reinstate the policies I asked why there was no other contact attempt made to let me know I was soon to be uninsured.

I receive many times the warning when my magazine subscriptions are due to expire! This should be and perhaps is unlawful to provide such little warning about a cancellation action. As a psychologist I note that Costco-Ameriprise and their parent company IDS Casualty, behave as criminal sociopaths. We suffered a major car claim (we were rammed from behind by an uninsured motorist) AND a major homeowner's claim (our home burglarized, totally destroyed by vandalism). They use veiled and unveiled death threats, including their Claims Adjuster (and his three cohorts) that they sent from Tennessee to our home in California like some kind of traveling assassin that we actually had to call 911 to have heavily armed deputies remove! Yesterday, after close to a year of this kind of ongoing madness, police arrived to our hotel in some weird orchestrated DANGEROUS police drama similar to what Ameriprise has used on us several times to date.

This time, two police cruisers arrived and ended up going to the room next to where we were staying. They pulled out their weapons and entered the room next to ours. They had their BS explanation but from a statistical standpoint, and the fact that we had just notified Ameriprise that we are not going to stand for any more of their FRAUDULENT reports and inspections of our home, they again resort to the use of deadly force. Their insurance investigators manipulate anyone and everyone, including police, to get their will done, namely, telling the police some sort of wild stories to justify the drama we keep going through on this.

They have had us attacked by hotel managers then used police to threaten our arrest unless we immediately check out and never return, because they do not want to pay our coverage that pays for hotel stays till the repairs are done on our home, that actually cannot be repaired but needs to be torn down according to independent experts and contractors due to the extremely dangerous condition that the burglar vandalized our home to. Costo Ameriprise is not just a useless insurance company, they are sociopaths, more like psychopaths, running wild on ALL of their policyholders if they feel like it with no way to hold them accountable, unless we hire an attorney which is what is happening right now.

They need to be and will be sued out of existence, and even if they succeed in literally killing me and my family measures have been taken on multiple levels to assure that they are sued into oblivion. They are literally trying to get by with murder, and they clearly believe that they are immune to extinction just as so many other giant corporations have thought over the history of big business. The other party called me to pay him $550 the next day. I did not consider I was completely wrong. I reported this to Ameriprise to defend me. However, not only Ameriprise paid the other party $1275 which would give me 1 DMV point. $750 more than the other party initially asked for. Claiming that this was based on estimation. Both line is that Ameriprise already knew the other party asked only $550. Ameriprise adjuster should just authorize the payment. Instead of estimating that the other party should deserve more.

Besides that a good auto insurer always fight for its clients, nothing like Ameriprise who sacrifice its clients in order give excuse to increase my premium from $900 to $3900 annually. Another thing I should mention was that my claim agent was very unfriendly. I had Ameriprise insurance for several years. This was first wrongful claim which was $550 and that was the reason why I did not questioned and asked Ameriprise to fight for this claim. The umbrella package offered by Ameriprise via our Costco membership sounded initially like a competitive offer. During the application process we disclosed to the agent that we didn't have prior insurance coverage in the US, but offered to provide confirmation from the insurance abroad that we had coverage during that time and didn't file any claims. We were told that such confirmation wouldn't be accepted, apart from that it wouldn't make a difference to our insurance premium.

Just two months later we received a letter from Ameriprise, informing us that our rate is going to increase by almost 20%! No further explanation was given for the rate increase. After we questioned the rate increase in writing, we received an e-mail from Ameriprise, informing us that we would have to call Customer Service. Upon calling, an agent told us that Ameriprise was unfortunately forced to increase our premium because we didn't have insurance coverage prior to joining Ameriprise.

Long story short, the agent and his supervisor were unable or unwilling to explain what has gone wrong within their organization, neither were they willing to adjust the premium back to the previously quoted rate. The agent apologized and told us that he would fully understand if we look for other options. I was just stunned about the level of unprofessionalism, as well as the incompetence of the agents we spoke to. Based on this experience I cannot recommend Ameriprise at all and suggest that they consider a name change to Amerisurprise.

I've been with Ameriprise for about 4-5 yrs. through Costco. Almost everything I purchased at or through Costco has worked out so I figured I'd give their insurance a shot. Seems like Costco is just a referring party and not really doing / providing anything beyond that. As you sign up, you get handed off to Ameriprise and that's the last I've ever heard of Costco. Through the years, I never really needed to call or ask anything from them. Never had a claim. But, I found out the hard way, once you need to call or need something the aggravations start. A ridiculous set of circumstances led me to find out how shady Ameriprise is. They're just basically waiting for you to make a mistake or file a claim so they can jack up your rate.

My mistake was that I was away on business and didn't realize that bank rejected a electronic payment (Union Bank - another shady company). So without giving me much time, or trying to contact me, they went ahead and just cancelled my policy. This was after being late about 2 weeks. When I got back from a couple back to back business trips, I checked my account and realized that the money from this bill was not pulled so I called Ameriprise. I was curtly informed that my policy was cancelled (for being 2 weeks late) and that my only option was to wait 2 weeks for a paper application in the mail (with no guarantee that I would even be accepted) to "apply for a new policy" full knowing that it's illegal to drive with no insurance in CA. Wow, business must be really good for this shady outfit for them to turn away willing customers I thought.

My other "option" would be to pay off the entire policy (which I have no idea what the cost would be because I needed a new one according to them). I had no intention of doing business with such an incompetent outfit and left it at that. When I explained my situation to my buddy, he quickly put things together and explained to me that they're probably doing this so I would lose my tenure and that would give them an opportunity to jack up my rates. I thought about this and came to the same conclusion. I can't think of anything else. This shady business would rather try to jack up my rate with this made up excuse then keep me as a faithful customer. I haven't had 1 ticket or claim the whole time I was with them.

I know redlining is illegal, but my rate went down after a move to a different zip code in LA county so that might have been another reason for them to cancel me. What it is, know this if you're considering this company- THEY ARE SHADY. Just google Ameriprise. You see the countless reviews of unhappy customers. I'm surprised that a great company like Costco is doing business with them. I intend to write Costco to let them know of their shady practices and warn anyone and everyone to avoid them.

Horrible customer service and had bad experience with this company. Won't recommend at all. Dealing with people on the phone in diff time zones and email conversations won't work at all when it comes to insurance. Won't recommend at all.

Ameriprise Auto Insurance (Costco) - I left my long time auto insurance because Ameriprise Insurance offered a rate 40% below my current rate. Stayed with them for a year and then received a renewal for 45% more. When I called they gave a vague canned excuse that their rating systems in Ca had changed and everyone received increases. I said I left my old company and lost my tenure discount because Costco pushed your services and now it's nothing more than bait and switch. There was no reason to change the rates. I canceled the policy and went back to my old insurer at a higher rate then if I'd just stayed. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH AMERIPRISE!

They start your rates out low to lure you in. My auto rate started out just a little over $400 every six months. I thought awesome at the time. Then, the very next year they raised the rate to over $500 every six months. I hadn't had any tickets in over five years and no accidents, so I called them & they gave me absolutely no reason except for the area for the increase. Give me a break. An uninsured driver sideswiped me & received a ticket on July 24 this year. My rate goes from $500 something every 6 months to $655 every 6 months for a not-at-fault accident. What a complete joke this company is. I will be shopping around very soon for another company.

I have had Costco Ameriprise Insurance for our 4 Cars, House and Umbrella Policy for the past 15 years. We have never had one claim filed for any of our policy for 15 years till this past June. My 22 year old son had a minor accident. No damage was done to our car and they paid her $1752 for her car damage. She claimed soft tissue damage to herself (Can't prove or disprove this). The total out of pocket they paid her was $4770.00 and closed the claim. They tripled our car policy from to $2091 a year to a whopping $7542.00 a year. Wow really there should be a law against this. I have called Geico and Mercury both half of the new cost of Ameriprise. I guess they only want you as long as you don't file a claim. I wonder if the claim came in as damage to myself or my own property how they would of screwed me like I am reading they have done to others. Don't buy this insurance.

I'm lucky to have not had to make a claim, but unlucky to have decided to do business with this incompetent company. Obtaining auto, home, and umbrella policies as a Costco member, I quickly found that this company is a shabby operation. Just today they told me that they have "not received" the printed application that I mailed weeks ago. (You have to mail it because they are too backward to deal with online document signing.) I will get other quote and abandon this company today if possible. I dread to think what I will go through if I were to ever make a claim. Costco should be ashamed to foist this company onto its members.

My car was hit on 7/7/16 by a person who had Ameriprise as their auto insurance company. We were never called until 2 weeks later after trying to find the representative at Ameriprise who was handling our claim. They said they are reviewing it and would contact us shortly. On 8/17/16 we emailed the rep and after four days of not responding, I called her. She told me that I had to file a claim with MY insurance company. I said "Your client hit me and this isn't how this works." I told her that professional insurance companies contact the other party right away, ensure nobody in the car was injured and make an appointment to send an adjuster to your home asap.

I got her manager involved who said they would reprocess the claim as my bumper was about to fall off. I had to take pictures of the damage and the mileage and the auto information and take it to a repair shop. This took an additional 2 weeks. We got an estimate and Ameriprise shorted the auto repair shop $300.00. I am thankful we didn't have significant damage or injuries. I work in the finance/insurance industry and the employees of Ameriprise are the most incompetent employees I have ever dealt with.

Long term care insurance. 20% rate increase with no notification. As a senior, my income does not increase but I can't switch as I would lose all the money invested. Definitely would not recommend but I thought they had a high rating when I bought.
