When I learned that Costco offered Auto insurance I was excited. I called Ameriprise 800 number and spoke with a gentleman. I specifically told him that I was calling to inquire and get information about their product. The guy asked me for my name and then he said, "The number you're dialing me from phone number ending in **... Is this your number?" I said yes and he then proceeded to ask me for my address and then finally I said, "Why are you asking me for all of this information, I didn't ask for a quote?" He got very defensive and said, "Well... we are going to need the last six years of your driving record and the names and numbers of all the people you want insured."
I again reiterated that all I wanted was information about their product and if I wanted a quote, I could have done it online. There was dead silence on his end, and at this point, I told him I was no longer interested and I immediately hung up. After the call I googled the company (which is what I normally do first) and that's when I found all of the negative reviews about Ameriprise. I'm disappointed that Costco is using this company and as Executive Member since 2000, I feel Costco should cancel Ameriprise and not allow them to service their members. I will be contacting Corporate first thing Monday morning.

In 2014, my husband was rear ended on the freeway, and was injured to the extent that he was unable to sleep in a bed for nearly a year. He could only sleep while sleeping in an upright position. Their claims rep took forever to return my calls, it was absurd how long I would have to wait. When they did call back, they asked me to send them all of the medical bills and paperwork from the hospital visits, which I did my email, and kept the record of this in my mailbox. I heard nothing back. When I finally reached them, I was told to send all of the paperwork again, as the email I sent was lost. I complied. Again, nothing back from them.
Now we're months into this, and I'm getting angry. My husband and I had not slept together for a long time, and I'm feeling like I've been punished by the gods for what? I don't know, and my husband is feeling like he's let me down - all because someone ran into him, and he's at an age, and has past injuries that didn't need to be reminded that they're there. He had broken 7 of his ribs (near his spine) in a work accident some years ago. This new traffic accident [as far as I can guess, because we ran out of funds to continue seeing a doctor] agitated the existing injury to the point of nearly unbearable pain when the weight of his body was putting pressure on his torso.
I sent them the paperwork by U.S. Mail and by email, I have records of both, once again. Then they told me we would have to sign a medical release for them to evaluate the claim. The release they sent me was so invasive and broad, I can't imagine any reasonable person would sign, and I told them to send me one that was specific to this injury and the work injury. I can't imagine why they would need to have access to any psychiatric records, drug treatment, chronic diseases and other unrelated records now and for the rest of his life, but they did not send another. They would call and tell me my time was running out, while failing to provide the modified release. I did make a demand based on the medical bills and damage to the SUV, which they said they would not pay for lack of medical information - now remember, they had all of the bills, and hospital discharge paperwork, 5K in medical bills, damages to the SUV, 2.5K.
They did not come back with a counterclaim, and did not send a modified medical release. They just reminded me I was running out of time. I reminded them I needed a new release, and the time ran out. I should have taken their insured to small claims court, but who would have thought I needed to. I needed to. And that's the long and short of it. If you use Ameriprise through Costco to insure your car, don't be surprised if a person you hit with your automobile, while were totally at fault, takes you to court for the accident your insurance is being paid to handle for you. Ameriprise is gambling with your financial well being - so they can save some money while humiliating and exploiting victims of automobile accidents. At one point I told them all I wanted was a hospital bed so I could lie next to my husband while we sleep.
Side note: Lawyers won't represent you for an accident that they don't have control over from the beginning. Ameriprise put me off long enough to ensure that no contingency lawyer would take the case. Ameriprise cost my family a lot pain and humiliation, and for what? To save a few thousand dollars? David ** was my claims rep. He was indifferent to our pain. Not an ounce of sympathy or compassion. Please don't do business with this company. They are taking some big risks with their clients - Sadly, we didn't have the resources to take their insured to court - he dodged a bullet.
Is this the new standard business model in America? What have we become in this country? I was reading other reviews and can't believe the blatant lack of fiduciary duty and breach of contract. What are we paying them for? We are compelled by law to pay for services that are not performing their basic function? Better to use that money for a rainy day fund, or just hand it straight to the attorneys - I'm sure they are complicit in this travesty of justice. Where one company has found a way to get around the law, you'll find a lawyer showing them the map!

Our auto policy is coming due in October. We pay semi-annually. In April our insurance cost us $386 for two cars. We just got our renewal policy and the price is $702, an increase of 85%. We called Ameriprise and was told that they hadn't had a rate increase in 7 years in CA so the new rate includes that increase. That is outlandish! I can see 7%-10% like everyone else gets but 85% is ridiculous. Needless to say, I am going to be looking for a new auto insurance and complaining to Costco services because this isn't a member savings.

They didn't have courtesy to call me by themselves. When I call them, supervisor were very very rude. No customer service manners. I have always best experience with Costco but this is worst experience of my life.

I am very unhappy and upset with the poor service proved by this car insurance company. I am try to get the insurance from this company for over three weeks, I just waste my time to get a insurance through Costco/Ameriprise but I am glad at the last minute I didn't. I had been working with several people there and seems to me that nobody cares about the clients. The customer service blame me saying that I didn't send the whole information that they been request today. This really made me mad since I'm been asking them if they need something else (by phone and email)...
The underwriting didn't know what he is doing there. The numbers he gets off the miles on my cars really scare me! Also I went to online/internet and check about this company and I found it out than they have 179 complaints. I mentioned this to the customer service and he only said "is not a lot, actually 179 is not a lot." What a company and people who work there. If I knew before about the reviews I never apply for car insurance through this Costco car insurance company.

I have been insured with Ameriprise for both Auto and Home since 2007. When I tried to add a new driver, they wanted to almost double my rate (twice the cost of the other 4 drivers combined). I switched my auto to another policy. Since I had kids going to college, I was sold an endorsement called "Home Media Package" which is an additional premium for a no deductible policy covering tablets, laptops, and cell phones. They assured me claims to this policy would have NO EFFECT on my home ins policy.
I subsequently had a dropped iPod 4 years ago (300$) and an iPhone damaged by water on a boat trip (700$). Both times, they repeatedly insisted there would be no negative impact to make a claim on the home media policy, despite my questioning over and over. I wouldn't make a claim for a small item if it was going to raise my rates. Well guess what?? They filed a CLUE report (database that insurance companies use for claims reporting) stating I had a HOME WATER DAMAGE CLAIM, then raised my rates by 40%. When I decided to get other quotes, I was told having this "home water damage claim" makes me uninsurable/too high risk! They also raised the rates for my umbrella policy by 40%.
Now I am screwed until 5 years passes with no claims, and will be shelling out WELL OVER the value of those items every year in increased premiums. They LIED and they misrepresented the policy they sold me. Customer service numbers is a constant game of saying someone in a different dept can answer that, and transferring your call around. They are unhelpful and I am very disappointed that I trusted Costco's affiliation with them. Stay away!!! The WA state insurance commissioner said they misrepresented to me what they said the policy allowed.

Our car and home were insured with Ameriprise. We decided to sell our home and move to another state, I called Ameriprise and informed them. I was told that once we were going to closing on our new home to let them know and they would give us a quote and transfer our policy. We did this and all went well. I also informed them that we would be getting new driver licenses and registering our car in that new state. We were told to let them know once this occurred and they would transfer our insurance and make any needed adjustments in price. We had a credit card on file for billing.
I called about 5 months after we were settled and had gotten our new plates only to be told we did not have auto insurance - it had been cancelled! We never received a letter, email, or phone call telling us this! We were driving without any auto insurance! Then we were told they could not insurance since we had a break in coverage and we had to go to Progressive and paid $200.00 extra for 6 months of coverage. I asked why this had happened and was told they could not see a reason on the screen and all of the phone calls would have to be reviewed by a supervisor. I know that this was all an error on Ameriprise's part and they will never admit to anything but we are seniors and we have excellent driving records. I would love to find out how they can cancel your auto insurance and not even notify a person!

I never had such a horrible experience such as with Ameriprise. Every time I need to call to customer service of Ameriprise, I always get a lot of stress, representatives are very rude, supervisors are worst. They constantly trying to come up with anything to make customer’s life miserable, constantly threatening that are going to stop the insurance, requesting unnecessary paperwork that is difficult to obtain, constantly changing information on the file by themselves that increases the premium and don’t even clarify why the premium went up. Every time I need to talk to clarify something, I get totally contraindicating messages from different representatives and if I try to talk to supervisors, they retaliate and make the condition worst. In other word, it gives me a lot of stress to deal with the Ameriprise Insurance.

I would NEVER recommend Ameriprise Auto & Home to anyone! I have been a customer of Ameriprise Auto & Home for approximately 5 years. As of this date, 7/21/2016, my insurance payments have never been late and I have never had my insurance cancelled by Ameriprise Auto & Home. My girlfriend recently moved in with me, she has a 20-year old daughter, who does not live with me, for whatever reason, Ameriprise says the daughter lives here and I must account for her address. Because I cannot verify where she lives, as of 8/11/2016 they will be canceling my insurance. I feel Ameriprise Auto & Home has over stepped their bounds when it comes to this issue. Who does Ameriprise think they are?

I have had Costco Ameriprise auto insurance for several years. In April 2016 I revised the auto insurance on three cars. Only one car is mostly used, while others are used occasionally. I told the truth by saying my son buys toilet paper and scott towels for his Dad's machine shop. His father has a heart condition. Machine shop is barely functioning. So my son is helping and also buys food for his Dad to take home. In July 2016 received a letter saying that my auto insurance was dropped since toilet paper and scott towels are considered hazard material. It seems okay to buy for home only. I called Ameriprise and was told I will be cancelled as of September 6th. What is wrong with this picture?

For example: I read about a company which was developing a product in which I was interested. I asked my advisor to purchase some stock for me. I THOUGHT he said it would cost $15 for the transaction but I sent extra money in case the stock increased in price before the check got to him. Imagine my surprise when I got the transaction receipt. I had purchased $150 worth of stock but was charge $50, not $15, plus a $6 "Handling Fee." I am now looking for a new company and WILL NEVER RECOMMEND AMERIPRISE FINANCIAL SERVICES TO ANYONE!

Went with this company 1.5 years ago after they solicited me through the brand of auto I bought (Ford). Save me a few bucks, was appreciated. Then I had to make a temporary move from CA to PA. Informed them of the move. They told me I would need to register the cars in PA in order to have coverage. I would have had to obtain a PA license to do that, and I would need to become a PA resident to do that. I am a CA resident and plan to remain so, I told them. Asked if there was any other way? A few weeks later I receive a letter in the mail informing me I was dropped. I've had no accidents, no citations, not even a parking ticket. One must wonder how this company honors claims if they do this kind of treatment to spotless policy holders for no reason. The location I moved from had 10X the auto theft rate as the one I moved to.

Please stay away from this insurance company. I received a letter from Costco about Ameriprise Home insurance. I called them and they gave me a reasonable quote that was a little cheaper than the actual one I signed up with when I purchased my home a year ago. An inspector called me about 10 times trying to reschedule because either you accommodate the time for him or he does not come. Most often he would call me after 8 pm. What kind of service calls that late? Anyways, when he came he took some pictures of the house, and in about two weeks Ameriprise sent me a cancellation notice stating that I have some moss on my roof and trees around the house which is a hazard and therefore they are giving me a month to find another company.
I was shocked because Farmers never came to do an inspection, and even if they did I am sure if this was an issue they would have told me to correct it within a time frame. But this company just sent the cancellation notice. Now when I tried to go back with Farmers, they wanted to give me a new quote for the actual rate which is higher. I ended up going with GEICO. They beat both companies and the inspector didn't make any comments about the "Hazards" that Ameriprise claimed.

I bought stock with the company I work for in 1997. Ameriprise has held onto the stocks since then. I recently retired and upon review discovered that they charge me quarterly fees to hold my 500 shares of stock. I called to have them send me my stock certificates and close my account in December 2015. Upon receiving a recent statement I have discovered that they kept $127 in cash assets and continue to charge me quarterly fees to maintain this small cash amount.
I have never received my stock certificates as I originally instructed the advisor. They simply transferred the stocks to a holding company without notifying me as to where my stock is currently being held. I called Ameriprise to cancel the entire account and send me the cash amount that they have held onto. I was then told that there is a $100 cancellation fee in order to close out the account. My advice is to stay away. When you first meet with Ameriprise, they make you feel like there will be a team of people working on your account. During my initial meeting, there were 4-5 people from Ameriprise. Your advisor lays out a calendar of quarterly touch points, two in person, two over the phone. Aside from our initial meeting, I never saw my advisor in person. And last year, he called me once at the end of December. But the main reason I left is because I was paying high fees to have no one watch my money. Between fees and bad advice, I would have been better off keeping my money in a no interest savings account. The kicker is when you leave, they charge high termination and transfer fees on your account. Someone was making money on my account, but it was not me. Unfortunately, after surfing around the internet, my experience with Ameriprise is not unique.

I wish I could rate Ameriprise lower, but I am not given the option. I recently started trying to put away money in an Ameriprise account. I barely make enough money to pay my bills each month. As it is so I was happy at the end of the year to have had been able to at least have a $100 ending balance in my Ameriprise account. However, when I got my annual statement I saw a Quarterly charge for $12.50 bringing my account down to $87.50. The charge was labeled as a maintenance fee which I thought was strange because I hadn't used any Ameriprise services. I was basically just using the account as a savings account. So I called Ameriprise to find out what this quarterly charge consisted of. I was told that this charge was for them sending me my statements and tax forms at the end of the year, which are pretty standard and are given for free at most financial institutions.
This was the first thing that upset me, basically Ameriprise wants to charge me $50 a year ($12.50 a quarter) to send standard statements and tax forms. This is more than half of my $87.50 balance!!! After being told that these quarterly fees would not be waived and would continue to be assessed to my account I felt that it didn't make any sense to keep the account open. I then asked to close the account thinking they would just give me my remaining $87.50 and that would be the end of it, nope, I was wrong. They said they could close the account for me, but that they would have to charge me $100 to close it. This was more than I even had left in my account!!!
They said since I only have a remaining balance of $87.50, my only options are to let the account erode to $0 from the $12.50 quarterly fees or to let them close it and take my remaining $87.50 for the closing fee. I could not believe it!!! I know for most people this is a small amount of money, but for me it was a lot and it's hard enough to pay my bills each month let alone to put money away for savings. I cannot believe that institutions like this prey on low income account holders who are just trying to put away money and start a savings!!! I cannot even begin to explain how upset and hurt I am. I hope others take a look at what fees are being assessed to their accounts and what closing costs there are so that they can avoid the loss I went through.

Caused over $8,000 other damages including damage to the Professional Keyboard in the Trunk, causing over $3,000 damage, Storage and Rental fees. It has been over 50 e-mail communications for this claim. They switch their Claim representatives, and delay the process. It is over 4 months from the date of loss, and I have been unable to get anywhere. They will not talk on normal unrecorded line, knowing that it is against the law to record caller's conversation without his/her consent.
I have filed a complaint with the Department of Insurance to assist me with my settlement. I am not represented by an attorney, Ameriprise asks for so many unnecessary information including EIN for all vendors provided repair to my professional keyboard/auto rental/ Auto storage, and programming to my damaged professional keyboard. I was paid for the damages in a couple of week. Now here is where their system breaks down. I was rear ended February 2015. I waited for the police and got a police report. I was having back pains due to the impact. I called my adjuster 2-3 days a week to find out what was going on. They told me that they could not find the insurance carrier of the person that hit me. REALLY...you are an insurance company and cannot locate another insurance company.
I was told that I would have to claim my medical bills on my personal insurance and then they would pay 20% of my copay. Not even willing to pick up my side of the bills. This would have cost them far less than paying for the majority. So am currently dealing with back pain because my Auto Insurance Company failed at doing their job.
Then my wife was in Miami and struck on the front passenger side her new car in July of 2015. The police officer took the word of the other driver and my wife was cited for the accident. We fought the ticket and won. We were found not guilty of the accident. I then get a notice in the mail that they are canceling my policy because of an at-fault accident. I explained what happened and sent over the court ruling. They stated even though we were found not guilty, the police report said we were and that we were over 50% at fault. So it doesn't matter what the courts find, they do what they want. 10 years with a company and a police report gets my policy canceled. Their customer service is poor, policies are flawed, and I would not recommend anyone getting a policy with this company.

They were unable to do that. After calls repeatedly I asked them to cash my account and let it set there until I had a place to put it. I contacted a local credit union with a financial advisor. I asked Ameriprise to send the money to Texas Trust. They said I could not do that, only the Credit Union could make that request. So again we fill out the paperwork. The credit union sends the paperwork to Ameriprise.
Two weeks later nothing has happened so I called Ameriprise and asked when was the check mailed. They informed me that they were not allowed to tell me, the only person they would talk to would be the Credit Union. They told me to have the credit union contact the retention department. I asked for a phone number and they told me I did not need the number. If it was a legit request the credit union would have the number. So I called the Credit Union. They had no idea what was happening. They said they had no number for that department. Finally the credit union got through to Ameriprise and Ameriprise said the paperwork had not been stamped with a shield. No idea what that was but the credit union rep said she would talk to her supervisor and try to get them the proper paperwork.
Ameriprise contacted no one when the paperwork was not to their satisfaction. They refused to talk to me, it was ONLY MY MONEY. I have heard from others that many places like Ameriprise were cutting out personalized support if you did not have a large enough account. I am so angry and frustrated. Ameriprise. I have been with Ameriprise for quite a while. My account was transferred from H&R Block. They will never have any of my business again.

Ameriprise has been dishonest and completely unreasonable in regards to my Auto insurance policy. It can be terribly difficult to work with them because they don't truly listen, their customer service reps speak in a rude tone and very condescending manner, and they make statements about your account history that just aren't true. The company bombards you with tons of mail at times (duplicate letters), other times they don't send you letters they claim they sent, they only send paper policy cards, and they justify raising your rates or canceling your policy for no legitimate reason. Think twice before doing business with Ameriprise!

It's been almost a month when my husband was hit by a person that has an Ameriprise insurance. Clearly the person was at fault and this person even agreed that he was at fault. My husband was at the right of way and this person was merging onto the road. We have AAA as our auto insurance and went thru them to get out car fixed. Of course I had to pay my deductible but knew I would get it back since we weren't at fault. We received one call from Ameriprise asking for a statement. It took several weeks and phone call to finally reach someone from Ameriprise and they claim that it sounds like their client was not at fault. The impact on our car was on the right passenger side while their clients was on the front. The Ameriprise representative was rude and said that they will work on the claim.
Several weeks had gone by, AAA as well called us to get a status update and the person handling our case said the they have been untraceable and "out sick" and will come in just to specifically work on our case. A couple week later we get a letter from AAA stating that their Subrogation Dept is now handling out case and that they will attempt to recover my deductible and this process can take months. Ameriprise is a bunch of crooks that just drags their feet when they clearly know their client was at fault. Shame on them from running a business this way. And SHAME in Costco for offering their services. They are the most unethical company I ever came across. Ameriprise is one of the reason why we as American citizens get screwed. Ameriprise took it upon themselves to cancel my Auto and Home insurance due to "inability to verify the policy info resulting from a divorce or separation", but if we get back together, Ameriprise will reinstate (but with evidence). So, when did Ameriprise "care" about marriage and how is this related to auto and home coverage since I had a "new" policy created (2 hours on the phone) when I separated from the wife. Loyalty is now out the window and recommend anyone who has Ameriprise to seek out another insurance provider.

I had auto insurance w/ Ameriprise since 2009. I had an international driver staying with us in around May 2015. I called them to put her in the policy temporarily until she gets her DL. They told me they need proof of her driver's license after 30 days. I was not trying to have her in my policy after 30 days so she was not using my car in any way. I learned that my insurance was not renewed after I had a collision last week. They denied my renewal in October 21, when she was no longer living with us and in no way was using my car. About 2 weeks before collision I spoke with my insurance regarding a different matter and no one said anything to me about non-renewal. They said they sent me a notice in August which I never received. Since the bill was on automatic payment I did not notice that they did not taken money out of my account.
I spoke to an honest attorney. He advised me not to waste my time and money on them because I probably lose the case. They are going to argue that they had sent out the notice and they don't care if I didn't get it. He told me it's a shame that Costco is representing them. They were a small company based in Wisconsin and they do their best to take the last dime from their customers and screw them when they need help. When I tried for months to set meetings I never got a call returned. During this time I was also having multiple ortho surgeries and put on disability. I moved to another state in 2011. Tried and tried to reach advisor. Called main office who said they would make sure I'm contacted. I never was. So, I pulled all but $126.50. I was told it would be a $50 fee to close my account. I felt I shouldn't have to pay it because I had no communication from them, so I left the $126.50. I've had to date over 26 orthopaedic surgeries, so they were off my radar. My last surgery was 5/2015.
I called to cancel my account today and explained everything and requested they waive the $100 fee. Apparently it went up a few years ago. Naturally they don't care how poor my service was and that I'm on disability so that $100 is a lot of money to me. Horrible experience. Barry ** from Ameriprise was my father's financial "adviser" for many years. After my father passed and I was able to look into his investments, I found that he was invested in high load funds and non-traded REIT's. What does that mean? Barry/Ameriprise was charging my father over $400 a month to sell him bad investments.
I was able to move most of the funds away from Ameriprise with the exception of the non-traded REIT which is an investment meant for sophisticated investors (not my father who was working through his retirement as a 3rd shift janitor). No credible broker will "hold" this REIT so it is stuck at Ameriprise where they want to charge $80/year to hold it while it earns $100/year in dividends. That is an 80% fee for Ameriprise to be the broker on file. I would have more respect for these people if they had used a gun to rob my father, at least they would've had to work for it. Oh yea, Barry dumped me as a client onto the corporate Ameriprise when he found out that he wasn't able to soak my account for every fee imaginable (including a $100 fee to close my account). The worst insurance I have ever, ever dealt with!! Run, fast and hard if you get a deal with them! We got our insurance through Costco and what a nightmare that was. First we had a leak under our floor that was coming in from the outside, we noticed it when we were in the basement as it was seeping under floor hidden by our insulation. As soon as we noticed it we called the homeowners insurance and they sent out an adjuster. A couple of weeks later, we got a call saying they weren't going to help us because it wasn't hidden damage. I was told 3 times NO! I had to measure, photograph and show that the damage was hidden by the thick insulation. Finally after doing my own leg work and calling another supervisor and referring to a certain policy description, they finally cut us a check. That was the first incident!
The second incident occurred when I paid my $1350 car insurance on 9/27 instead of on 9/26, one day late. I noticed today 9/29 it was not taken out of my account. I thought maybe the website wasn't working and didn't record my payment, so I called them and told them that I didn't think their website was working correctly because I paid my insurance on Sunday the 27th and today was Tuesday and it wasn't recorded yet. They informed me they cancelled me. I asked why and was told because I didn't pay it on the 26th when it was due.
I explained to them that I paid it as soon as I realized it was due. I also told them that it was on a weekend so if it was due Saturday and I paid it Sunday, no matter what it would not have been processed until the 28th on Monday. So either day it would still be processed Monday the 28th, regardless. It didn't matter and they told me in fact, they dropped me on the 26th and I had no insurance since then and didn't even know it. This company is TERRIBLE!!! On June 5th a third party adjuster hired by Ameriprise showed up to assess the damages. While getting out of his car and before even looking at the damages stated to me and my contractor that concrete tile roofs and Stucco homes don't get damaged by hail. And so the bad faith process by Ameriprise has begun. To date damage by the hailstorm to the roof has been denied, damage to the hot tub denied as well.
A small partial payment has been sent to cover damage to the stucco, deck, windows, doors, gutters, fascia and downspouts. Which by two different contractors is about $80,000.00 short of what we need to complete the restoration. Damage to the hot tub according to Ameriprise was not caused by hail but instead is a manufacturing defect. Damage to the roof was caused by manufacturing defects, thermal expansion, foot traffic, and poor workmanship. Which incidentally all occurred on the exact same day as the hailstorm.
An engineering group hired by Ameriprise, "Donan Engineering" stated in their report that hail the size we claimed hit our home was not the size we stated, but smaller. Don't these knuckleheads understand that we have pictures to prove it. Not only that, but by the insurance industry classified this area of Colorado a Catastrophic Loss Zone. Now we will be pursuing these matters by all legal means necessary, and for the maximum amount allowed under Colorado State Statutes. When the 6-month period was up in May 2015 - Nov 2015 I received another notice of Non-Renewal in March 2015. I had taken the AARP Driver Safety Course which entitled me to a reduction of $90.00 in premium costs. Valid for a 2 year period. Upon receipt of the second N/R notice I filed another Protest with MIA but determination was not in my favor.
During this period IDS/Ameriprise went into my bank account and deducted a full 6-month premium with Renewal Declaration from May 4/15 to Nov 5/15 but without deducting the Safety Driver Certificate discount. I have the right and proceeded to file for a Hearing with Baltimore County for an appeal. Was told I do not need an attorney. However, given the intimidation, harassment and I was getting from Ameriprise I did retain counsel for representation. Hearing is set for August 4/15.
Two days ago, I received a package from Ameriprise, copy to my counsel loaded with photos and information, some of it with much discrepancies and advising that they Ameriprise will make an appearance via telephone together with their Corporate Counsel, and four (4) Representatives. That is five (5) people against myself and my counsel for this Hearing. I am so glad to have the common sense to have retained an attorney for representation. Otherwise it would have just been myself against the "troops". What next? Are Ameriprise going to call in the National Guards so they don't lose? Or are they afraid I may file further suits because of my injuries, mental anguish, ongoing PTSD not to mention the trauma my 8 year old grandson suffered at the time of the accident. The payout was only $2,500 personal injury to me. I am 68 years old, have disabilities, live alone, family is in NC I live in MD.
Ameriprise have been relentless and aggressive in their pursuit of me over this issue. As mentioned there were many findings that were questionable and now it is in the hands of my Attorney. We will see what develops August 4/15. Ameriprise are the most consumer unfriendly, inhumane company to deal with. Costco are the best corporation to shop and deal with. Have no idea why they endorse Ameriprise/IDS. So much against the grain of Costco's policies and practices. I will have to wait out the three year period until March 12/16 to seek insurance elsewhere without causing me financial hardship.
I am on a meager pension and have a modest condo/apartment with mortgage. I was forced to lease a car after the accident. The payout was under $5,000.00. It was a 1999 Acura 2.0. with 79,000 miles. Had no intention of buying a new car. I have carried coverage at above the average levels for over 10 years on my policy. So Ameriprise did not pay out for a luxury car on my side or on the other junker involved.
Under no circumstances ever consider Ameriprise for auto insurance. They are not your friends, or care about your loses. Are not even up to date on underwriting policies when considering latest research and statistics. So antiquated. I will also cancel my home policy with them. If you drive and think you can rely on them to "protect and serve" you in at your time of needs then don't drive much and stay off the roads. Accidents happen and Ameriprise is only in the business of making money from the premiums it collects and make profits for the shareholders.

I've been with Ameriprise for a few years now and never had a claim against them. I bought a used car for dirt cheap, but I had to fix some mechanical items before I could drive it. When I was ready to register the car I called them to add the vehicle. Everything was going fine until they asked if there was any damage to the car. I was honest with them and told them that there was a dent at the right rear passenger door. They wanted pictures, I sent pictures. They said I had to fix the dent before they could add the car. I told them "no way, it's not in my budget right now and besides I just want liability on the car." Ameriprise won't budge and for that I'm going to cancel all my vehicles and go else where. Oh BTW they wanted to start the insurance for the car on the day I bought it not the day I called to insure it, even though it was in an insured auto repair shop for the whole time.

We have had Ameriprise through Costco for many years. We have had 2 claims in all those years. Neither claim involved any other vehicle. We had two damage claims, two years apart. Both incidents happened on our own property. We have never had any moving violations, but they canceled us. Once you've been canceled, it's more expensive to buy another policy. So, be aware that if you buy this insurance and have 2 claims in 3 years, they will cancel your insurance. That is their policy, according to their agent.

I did a tax return for an 87-yr old lady with some degree of dementia. At least she did not really understand a thing about investing. I looked at her Ameriprise tax statement. There were over 2 dozen trades in a year on her account. One mutual fund was bought one day and sold the next making the client $0.45 -- probably 100 dollars worth of transaction fees. Most other trades were equally senseless. For all this trading, the client got a whopping big tax bill and around $2500 fees paid to Ameriprise. The other problem was asset allocation -- it was totally inappropriate for an 87-yr old. e.g., it had high risk emerging market funds. The client should have been almost entirely in bonds. She was being ripped off.

Until I separated with my wife I have to sell my car and cancel our policy and I went to get another car. So the whole policy has to start all over, which makes sense but I'm doing a new quote. All I told them I purchased the car. No I need to activate my new quote from new car and they send me a application and I send it back. Everything goes pretty smooth from that point on. Now I give them like 2 weeks to process my application and I worry I might mis-fill something in the application but there is no call so I called them after 2 weeks to see what going on.
They keep referring me back to my sale rep. **, from today 15 mins ago. I left him 4-5 messages and call maybe other sale rep to take care of if at least 10 times and still they said "they can't promise to will call back, it's better for customer to call back because we're not sure when we can call back." I was like what... I've given you business to do and now we have to contact your guys to do get things done. What happened to customer services!?
So no I'm hanging with my new car with no insurance policy and I will move on to other insurance company. Thank you for your well communication and you just lost a loyal customer for the last 6 years. I hate complaint about other but this time Ameriprise put me in a spot that I might need to force myself drive illegally on the street, finger cross better nothing happen to me on the road, accident, or pulled over (none of those incidents happen in pass 8 years). I have been driving for 30 years and have never had a rate increase so high it is shocking. I had a DUI when I turned 21 and it didn't increase this much. I had an accident about 10 years ago and infinity insurance only increased my insurance 50$ a year. I got in an accident in January and the accident did not include another vehicle or property damage, only my vehicle and they raised my insurance 360$ a year, over 33%. I am very disappointed with Costco for referring this vendor whom I have noticed has all negative reviews. Don't trust Costco. Do your homework.

My husband moved into Ameriprise as his advisor switched jobs to Ameriprise. He knew nothing of money, and that is where the issues lie with Ameriprise. They press you for yearly retirement planning that costs up to $700. We did the first year, and frankly useless. They encouraged my husband to place a rollover 401k into an annuitized account owned by Ameriprise... 75% fee every year, not including the 1% to 1.5% expense fees on the funds. Why does a company need to put a 401k rollover into an account that locks your money for 10 yrs and charges a .75% annual daily expense?
They knew I liked buying stocks. Instead of picking 8-10 stocks and paying the $60 per purchase, they recommended a 2.5% fee fund alternative that locks your money for 3 years. They showed returns that beat the S&P but before they took out the net of the 2.5% fees. It is an organization clearly under the interests of the firm from our experience, quite concerning.
Yes, it is our fault for not being more educated about all these fee driven products, and not understanding all of the lock up periods. But if you notice, their site does not offer return rates, expense information. It's all cloak and dagger enough to be very alarming. And hopefully people will consider this company with a different perspective after hearing consistent messaging of perceived foul play.

Our financial planner forgot or staff did not tell him about our scheduled annual review of our finances, so we appeared on the correct day and time, and no planner. We re-scheduled. No communication or apology for him after a week, until we appeared for rescheduled meeting. He started the meeting with reviewing our finances without a word about his non-appearance until we said something.
We showed him our appointment card that his staff person had filled out; however, he said that what we are expecting (communication about distributions, accuracy to our bank account, staff performance, and his appearing for scheduled meeting) would not necessarily improve, and perhaps we needed another advisor. Rather than another Ameriprise advisor, perhaps we need to look for another company to manage our finances and who will treat us with courtesy, respect and care. Feeling insecure with Ameriprise.

I had a similar experience as another reviewer: Ameriprise Financial was recommended to me by one of my colleagues at work. The financial advisor was knowledgeable and he convinced me to open an account at Ameriprise and invest $100,000 cash. This was the deposit for a house I was planning to buy within a year and he said by the end of the year I would have a profit of at least 20%. He went for high risks and high price mutual funds and stocks and within 4 months I lost over $15,000. By the end of the 9 months I had to accept the 15K loss and retrieve my money.
This was a very painful experience for me since it took me over 10 yrs to save this amount of money. As a single parent and as a foreigner (now a US citizen), this type of loss is felt profoundly. I also had a Traditional IRA with them and within 4 yrs the amount is almost the same. Due to the performance of my account and not really being satisfied with the fees and account maintenance I decided not to transfer anymore money into this account.
I do agree the advisors are very good at calling and setting up meetings with you, but at the end of the day, the investments are made in the assets they direct you to. And though I am well educated, I am not an expert in finances. So I always trusted the advice of their financial advisor. But my 401K with Fidelity is doing far better than my Traditional IRA. Due to the fact I was not putting any more money into the account, Ameriprise advisor decided to get rid of my account and transfer it to the corporate office at the beginning of October but they continued to retrieve the monthly service fee.
At the beginning of January I decided to move my Ameriprise Traditional IRA into my 401(K) plan with Fidelity. This is when the nightmare begins. After numerous phone calls and misleading information, I had to open an IRA account with Fidelity just to be able to transfer the money from Ameriprise. Of course, the money are not there yet, still have to wait until the end of January. After the money are transferred, I have to close the IRA account, get a check and send it to my 401K account.
All this hassle because Ameriprise stated they could not write me a check under a different custodian name and they will have to retain taxes if they send me a check... Unheard of, since the law states I have 60 days to roll over into another pension plan. And this was the information provided by their Senior Expert for Inter-company transfer. When you roll over a retirement plan distribution, you generally don’t pay tax on it until you withdraw it from the new plan.
Direct rollover if you’re getting a distribution from a retirement plan. You can ask your plan administrator to make the payment directly to another retirement plan or to an IRA. Contact your plan administrator for instructions. The administrator may issue your distribution in the form of a check made payable to your new account. No taxes will be withheld from your transfer amount.
Trustee-to-trustee transfer if you’re getting a distribution from an IRA. You can ask the financial institution holding your IRA to make the payment directly from your IRA to another IRA or to a retirement plan. No taxes will be withheld from your transfer amount. 60-day rollover if a distribution from an IRA or a retirement plan is paid directly to you. You can deposit all or a portion of it in an IRA or a retirement plan within 60 days. Taxes will be withheld from a distribution from a retirement plan. None of these options seem to work for Ameriprise.

I am truly outraged by these negative posts. It is so obvious, the people who posted these comments have no idea what they are doing. The Ameriprise site can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. One person stated their funds were tied in to an account for 10 years, ridiculous. Why didn't they log into their account and understand the requirements before they invested in that particular account? Anytime you want to change an investment, you can do so online. Seems to me, people invest for the long term because the financial gain is of course more beneficial. At least once a year, if they check the message center, Ameriprise asks you to fill out a form so they can re-evaluate your investments in the event you have life changes.

Ameriprise Financial was recommended to me by my colleague at work. The financial advisor seemed honest and trustworthy and that convinced me to open an account at Ameriprise and transferred my 401K and pension funds which were at that time earning about 30% and 5% respectively at GSK. I opened the Ameriprise account in December 2013 (believing that he can do better) and entrusted him the management of the account indicating to him that my goal was to grow the 401K for my kids. He created 3 subaccounts, annuity/insurance (funded by the pension fund) plus about 1/3 of the 401K [why?], with pension deferred for 2 years [why?]) and 2 separate stock portfolios (funded by the balance of the 401K).
Then my nightmares started. He was investing in mutual funds with the highest front loads and highest expense ratio; he was buying and selling mutual funds which are intended for long term investment; only 6 out of twelve mutual funds were hardly earning; he invested in depressed Europe stocks all of which were consistently giving negative results. By October 2014, after 10 months with Ameriprise, my account was diving downward losing significantly in a bullish market that is over 10% high. I did not feel or see that my funds were being managed with my interest in his mind.
By November 2014, I decided to close all accounts before the damage become unmanageable. It was a costly account closure with over $30,000 penalty in one sub account alone plus fees and other charges. One more thing, he never highlighted to me the fees being charged on the account, over $500 each month plus the annual fee of $750. It was a very costly experience for me. The lesson here is to avoid Ameriprise financial advisor/broker and perhaps other brokers too as they work for fees and commissions in buying and selling stocks!! Do Not (In My Opinion) EVER Do Business With Ameriprise Auto and Home Insurance Out Of De Pere, WI. Again, this is my opinion and these are the ALLEGED facts. I have to say that to protect myself against any retaliation or retribution that Ameriprise Auto and Home Insurance may try to take against me. For about fifteen years my wife and I have had our auto and home owners insurance policies with Ameriprise (aka I.D.S. Insurance). Our premiums have always been paid on time and in full.
On Friday, July 25, 2014 my wife and I came home to find that one of our upstairs toilets had failed. More specifically the overflow valve failed and dumped approximately 60 gallons of water throughout our house. Water poured through two upstairs bedrooms, partially into the upstairs hallway, through the ceiling into both the living room and dining room areas.
Ameriprise agreed to pay for the repairs needed to return our home to the way that it was before the flood. To date (Wednesday, December 10, 2014) Ameriprise has not finished paying for the repairs that a fully licensed and bonded contractor did for us. My wife and I have had to pay $9,000.00 (this is in addition to our monthly premium and our $500.00 deductible) out of our own pocket for repairs to our home. Ameriprise kept dragging their feet and dragging their feet on sending out checks for labor and repairs. When they would send checks they would send them for lowered than agreed upon amounts. We would send the checks back refusing to cash it because it was for inaccurate amounts. Thus the reason for us paying money out of our own pocket. We couldn't continue to live in an unlivable home. The contractor is still owed over $5,000.00 by Ameriprise.
Ameriprise is refusing to reimburse my wife and I the $9,000.00 and they are refusing to finish paying the contractor the money he is still owed. Again, these are ALLEGED FACTS. In my opinion do not EVER get involved with this company. When a gentleman from their own mitigation company can come to your home and tell you that you're going to run into problems with your claim, you know that you are in trouble.

Once we received the needed licenses we were thrown right out into playing field, with absolutely no real education backing us on the products we were selling, products which were crap and management knew this. We were literally ignorant young salespeople making attempts on selling ** products and giving financial advisement which we pulled from our ** products and advice that could literally destroy the financial lives of these people. Thanks to TARGET all my credit cards were replaced so the auto pay didn't work so I called Ameriprise on the morning of the 27th to make the payment and was told the Policy expired at midnight and they would not reinstate it!!!! LOL I said ok well then rewrite a policy... Again I was told no! They said "once it’s canceled there is no renewing a client, period!" I was told "Ameriprise will never insure you once canceled. Try Progressive." No wrecks, no claims, no anything for 8-9 years and canceled. All I can think is that statistically I must be due to an accident or they just are not making any money on my good driving record!!!! Ended up using Esurance and actually saved me a lot of money!

During the short time that I insured my new home with Ameriprise through Progressive, I was never even sure the house WAS insured at any given time. I enrolled the home as my primary address, yet they continued to send all paperwork to my former address in another city. Somewhere in the 6+ packets they sent, which were all delayed due to forwarding, there was apparently an additional application form I needed to fill out, even though I applied online and over the phone. So I received a notice of pending cancellation. I immediately returned the completed form, and then received a cancellation check the next day!
After a few more days I received a notice that my policy WASN'T cancelled and was still in effect. So then I waited for a new bill while I shopped around for new insurance. It arrived weeks later. I cancelled the policy and then received another forwarded notification that I owed them money and if I didn't pay immediately they would refer my account to collections. As if their incompetence were my fault. I see from other reviewers that they get even worse when they actually need to process a claim. Thank goodness I'm rid of them. I moved to Traveler's for less money and it has been hassle-free so far.

I have had a small retirement account with Ameriprise that was set up by my employer. Having now retired, I wished to close out the account. I called my advisor and was told that he was out of town and that no one in the office was authorized to handle the transaction! They said that they would contact my advisor for instructions or that he would handle it. That was on a Monday. By Thursday, I had not received a reply. I called the main office in Minneapolis and they were able to process it, but could not wire the funds to my bank without a signature. They also said that they would not receive the funds until the next Wednesday and then it would take a few days for me to receive it by mail.
By the way, I originally went to my local Ameriprise office, where they said that they could not handle my account at all. (I no longer live in the same state as I did when the account was opened.) In this day of electronic banking, it is inconceivable that it will take so long me to receive my funds. And, of course, there's that $100 to close the account. I have dealt with several other brokerage firms, and this is the first one I have had any problems withdrawing money from. And none of them have a closing fee.

They took out the first premium. And then I got a cancellation notice indicating that they did not cover my "pleasure" on my truck as I used it to pick up feed for my horses. Oh, and they said since my side mirror had a broken back, and I had not had it repaired, I was ineligible. The woman had the nerve to tell me when I called to inquire about the reason for the cancellation, that I could insure my car if I just omitted my truck. I filed this claim in Feb 2014 it is now June 2014 and still am fighting with them over replacing my roof. The have sent an adjuster out twice and now their own engineer to check on my roof. Both say there is no hail damage in their reports. That is funny to me because I had a friend of mine that owns a roofing company and was an insurance adjuster prior that says yes it needs replaced from hail.
Every neighbor in front beside behind me all have had to replace their roofs in the last year due to hail damage. But mine mysteriously doesn't have any? Plus I have my home for sale. When the buyers inspector came out he would not pass it. He said the roof had hail damage and needs to be replaced. I am so frustrated with this company. I would cancel but hopefully going to be selling it soon anyways. I am still fighting with them EVERY SINGLE DAY to get this replaced. I call every day and still nothing. I had absolutely no experience with investments when I was referred to Ameriprize 12 years ago. Based on my interviews and meetings with my adviser I believed he was investing my monies in my best interest. WRONG. When he "retired" this year without notice to me, I found out that my investments were commission investments (to him). I was charged a quarterly fee as well as paying a percentage based on my account balances. Then I found out he had invested over $50,000 in the CNL REIT! Knowing full well that in our financial situation we could not afford that type of risk.
Obviously I am in process of leaving Ameriprize and am inquiring into possible a class action suit against this company. This is not a company for naive investors. RIA companies are a safer choice - no commissions! Fee based on assets, so they only make money if you make money. READ everything you receive about your investments. If you don't understand the legal terms and phrasing get someone you trust to help you interpret it or research on the internet. When I received letters regarding the REIT investment I was told to toss it - that it was a scam. I trusted my adviser. What a cruel joke.

I invested 4978 shares of CNL Properties and in excess of 8000 shares of Inland America for $10/share. He explained that if I sold before a given time interval, I would only receive $9/share. He felt these REITs were fairly safe from any housing downturn because they were dealing with upscale properties. When the purchase orders came back, they were classified as "unsolicited". I was never advised that I might not be able to sell these shares. I purchase 1297 shares at $9.50/share as dividends were received, not knowing that the face value of the CNL REIT had declined to $8.45/share. I finally discontinued purchasing shares strictly on my own without being advised to do so.
The face value of these shares has declined Around $40,000 and because I was stuck with these REITs, unable to sell them despite making a written request to SELL, I was not in a position to buy equities since REITs tend to trend with equities. Given that Ameriprise was falsely promoting these funds while taking an abnormally high sales commission (30.8 million dollars) and that they failed to advise me that the shares were devalued when I was purchasing additional shares, I feel I have financially harmed by Ameriprise and seek compensation.

We had invested a lot of money with our local, known to us, friend, Ameriprise Financial Advisor. In 2006 she "advised" us to invest in three REITs. At the time she knew we did not want a long term investment, only a place to park a fairly large sum of money for a few years prior to retirement. Sold to us as a minimum three year investment with pleasingly large return on investment, we were told we could exit the position after the initial time period had passed. Through the years we reinvested all dividends in additional shares, increasing our position over the initial investment by 23%. Beginning in 2010, I started inquiries as to liquidating the investment. Always told, "Wait just a little longer" and gleefully told, "I'm off to do my due diligence", we were put off until the investments have now lost 70% of value.
She has quit being our advisor without informing us and Ameriprise is also withdrawing support of our account. After taking very large commissions off the top, we are now told to deal with the REIT administrators directly. Ameriprise will no longer represent us nor protect our financial position in this investment. The words fraud, deceit and grand theft easily come to mind.

I was sent some papers to sign and was asked to send them a copy of the death certificate. I told them I had two types... one with cause of death... and one without cause of death... I was told to send either one. I was then told that once they received the papers and certificate that the money would be sent to me in two weeks...
A few days later I was contacted by Ameriprise and was asked to send another death certificate with cause of death. The passengers in my vehicle were my daughter (20 yrs.) as well as my two grandsons (19 months and 9 months). I submitted my claim. I was first asked, then it became a demand by two Ameriprise representatives on two different occasions to provide proof of auto insurance for my daughter. I informed both reps (on two different occasions) that my daughter does not have auto insurance due to the fact that she does not drive nor does she own a vehicle. Thought this was over.
Several weeks later I received a voice mail from Ameriprise Rep Jill, stating since you failed to provide your daughter's insurance information she will be added to your policy (saved the voice mail). I decided to call a friend at Allstate Insurance to inquire about this. I was told that Ameriprise had no right to add my daughter to my policy under these circumstances. I contacted Ameriprise (spoke to Karen) and requested their decision to add another person to my policy in writing. I then got a letter dated 10-16-2013 stating that my policy has been revised due to a driver change. I contacted Ameriprise once again and spoke to Rep Jessie (female). I requested an explanation of the driver change. Her response was "We need proof of where your daughter resides in order to remove her from your policy." She gave no reason for the increase in my premium.
On 10-28-2013 I called Ameriprise, spoke to a Rep Jessie (male). I explained to him all the issues I was having with Ameriprise and requested to speak with a manager; however I got a Supervisor Laura. Supervisor Laura explanation for the request of my daughter's proof of residence was due to the fact that my daughter had a fender-bender with my vehicle in 2011. I was still perplexed. I have had a relationship with Ameriprise for over 10 years. Started small and built up. I have an SPS arrangement and pay a WRAP fee and I also pay a Planning fee. In addition, I have brokerage accounts there. Recently I was sold a variable annuity and was reading the literature later and saw there was a 7.5% front end load. This led me to investigate my other annuities that are with RiverSource and they had similar fee structures. I cannot be exact about them as it is very complicated. I had an outside firm compare my RiverSource annuities to similar ones (not completely apples to apples but close) and found that the fee structure was 2-4 times more costly than some competitors. So why was I put in these products. Why was I not informed of the fee load?
I felt I was paying for GOOD advice in the approx. $30K I was paying in WRAP and planning fees. The whole time I was being sold proprietary products and high fee structure. So I contacted them to advise I was going to take my business elsewhere and found out the RiverSource annuities have surrender fees (huge ones) that I have to pay to surrender them or 1035 them to another investor. Due to my relationship, I asked for a negotiation of the surrender charges. Of course, the answer was NO, confirming the greed that had concerned me and also confirming the wisdom of my decision to leave them.
My advice to any Ameriprise customer is do not TRUST anyone there. Make sure you fully read all the material yourself and make your own decision. Ask your advisor to tell you exactly what they are making on each of your investments. Now if you have to be that careful after paying all the wrap fees/planning fees, etc., maybe you are at the wrong place. All of this in my humble opinion of course.

If you do not sign and send it, they will select some default policy and update your quote. I was well aware of that. I received the documents at home and I did not want to mail it to them. Instead, I decided that I want to scan and send them. So I called them and asked them if I can do that. They said that it is possible and send me a pre-filled form. All I had to do is update my health insurance information, scan it and send it back, which I did. But in the meantime, the money credited from my account was $250 more than it was supposed to be.
After a few days, I got a call from them saying that there is some mistake in the form because I had given my health insurance and chosen "I do not want my health insurance to be the primary insurance" option (which was already preselected) and this caused a conflict. I was promised on the call that I will receive the extra money deducted back and I do not need to worry. They said that they will send me the updated form and this time the option, I choose my health insurance to be the primary, will be preselected. I received the form, scanned it and sent it back the same day. Still after that, this month again, $250 more was deducted from my account. I called them to ask why this is happening and now they tell me that it was because I was unable to send the form on time and they are not responsible for the extra money that was deducted from my account. We cannot do anything about it. This makes me feel helpless and disappointed in their service.

I have auto insurance through Ameriprise. For most of the duration, I've had stellar coverage, have never had to file a claim, and the rates were excellent. Then I got married and a giant cluster of non-communicative mistakes happened on their end. First, they tell me that by Texas law, my husband has to be on the policy, even though he has his own vehicle and own insurance provider (If it's the law, why didn't Allstate put me on my husband's policy? They know me. I have life insurance through them and I've even gotten a quote from them for auto insurance, so they know I'm a licensed driver.) Okay, that's fine. I added him. My premium went up like 8 dollars a month. No biggie.
Then my stepson got his permit. My husband's insurance is through Allstate and he pays more than I do and the policy is not as good so I never switched over to his, but my husband put his (permit only, not licensed) son on the policy. So, I called Ameriprise back in December when I found out my rates were going up by $20 per month from a letter they sent me (instead of just the $8). I talked with someone very nice who said there was nothing she could do to lower it. At that time, I asked her for a quote for my spouse's truck to my policy and possibly my stepson when he gets his license, because I thought, surely, they'd be less expensive than Allstate.
In giving me that quote, unbeknownst and not wanted by me, she added him to the policy. I never received a letter. I was never told of rates going up, nothing. Yesterday, I noticed I hadn't received my updated ID cards, so I called and had them emailed to me. Upon printing them, I noticed that my stepson's name was on it. I called them and inquired about why he was there. I let them know he is not a licensed driver and asked if I'd already been charged for him. Anthony, I believe his name was, danced around the question and would not/could not answer me yes or no. But he did say, they'd rectify the situation. Then he quickly explained that the credit would show up in my last 3 months of the 6-month premium, so I'd only pay 50-some dollars those months, but in February my payment would be $313.
I admit it ... I lost it. I did not curse at him once, but was a little hysterical. I asked him why, if I had complained about paying $117 a month, why on earth did they think I could afford $313? I told them it was their screw-up. They never once told me my rates were going up because of my stepson being added to my policy. I told him that he needed to fix it and he needed to fix it now and if I needed to talk to his supervisor, I would. He put me on hold and when he came back, he said that they had received a letter from the DMV in December stating that my stepson is a licensed driver in the household.
I told him that no, they didn't, because he's not a licensed driver. And I think they're trying to cover themselves for their mess-up. I asked him why would I pay for my stepson, who isn't licensed, who doesn't even drive my truck, and who is a permitted driver on my husband's insurance? He told me, "Well, if he's covered by another insurance, just provide proof of that and that will be fine." But the policy has to be of equal or greater benefits to mine. I asked them why they would randomly add him without checking first if he had insurance already, even if he was licensed. Then he went into "Texas law" again, which apparently only applies to them because I've checked with other car insurance companies, including my husband's, and we do not need to be on the same policy.
My husband's policy is not equal to mine, so when my stepson does get his license, I'll have to pay for him anyway according to them. So I'm done. This complaint seems to be different than what has happened with others, but in the end, it comes down to this - they don't communicate and when they do, it's not accurate. I'm cancelling them today.

I asked my new rep from Ameriprise what happened with the $50k I put in after tax and also, I wanted to know what they were charging me to invest my money. It's been 3 weeks and no answer. When we were approached by Ameriprise, we were told the cost was 500 dollars a year. In the initial meeting I asked how much because I did not want them moving money around just so they would make money. I was told by Jason that I did not have to worry about that because the 500 dollars covered all trades. Years later, I find out I was lied to. Now I can't get a straight answer. I am looking for other people out there that were also lied to so we can have a lawyer look at it. We are with Ameriprise located in Newark, Delaware. Please call me with your experience.

We filed a homeowners claim in 6/2012 with Ameriprise for roof damage caused by hail and wind in 3/2012. Ameriprise sent an adjuster out who told our contractor and us that there was a lot of damage and their recommendation would be replacement. The claims representative didn't contact us after the adjuster's estimate. We received a check for repair. We made several attempts to contact the representative to discuss claim, but to our misfortune, there was another hailstorm that came through and we suffered additional damage.
When contact was made, we were informed that we needed to file another claim and that no further payment would be issued on the 1st claim. On the 2nd claim, adjuster came out and we were sent another payment to repair. After much persistence in speaking to the outsource company whom Ameriprise used for the estimates, and the claims rep, Ameriprise sent out another adjuster to review the damage and the adjuster commented they sent in a report to replace the roof. The adjuster said that they will send in their recommendations again but that previously they declined the recommendation to replace the roof and directed them to send a repair estimate.
We contacted Ameriprise claims rep and shared the adjuster’s response. The rep stated that because you have damage doesn't mean Ameriprise should give you a new home. The claims rep added that that the roof was out of code. Our home was built 14 years ago and obviously passed the required codes. Ameriprise has gone all out to not pay this claim fairly. At this point, we have not repaired the roof or cashed any payment sent to us. We are in the appealing process where they send another adjuster of their choice to meet with our contractor as a final attempt to resolve the claim. There is no integrity in the claim process and so we have filed a complaint with the Insurance Commissioner and Better Business Bureau.

I purchased home insurance at the end of July. I signed up for monthly automatic payments. In September, I received a letter telling me that my policy was cancelled and they want to get paid for the month of August. After long talks and e-mails back and forth, I was told that the reason why they cancelled my policy is that they could not retrieve the money through my bank. I went to my bank and they did not have a sign that an inquiry was made. Nevertheless, I offered to send them a check in full for the whole year, and they told me that they are sorry but they cannot do that.
I went ahead and purchased home insurance through another company. Then, I got another letter telling me that I owe them money from August and that it would go into a collection agency if I do not pay them right away. I just do not understand why they would not reinstate my coverage if I pay them in full and only want money for one month, while they never contact me to let me know of what is going on. They decline to give me the exact time that they made the bank inquiry as they claim, because if they did, I can prove that they never tried to access my bank account; instead, they dropped my coverage because it was not a very good investment for them. But that is illegal. By the way, I already checked with my bank, and I sat with the clerk and looked at every transaction for the month of August, and they never tried to withdraw money.
So I know they are lying. I think that they decided to drop my coverage due to a rise on thefts in the area, and they used an excuse to get out of it that was not accurate. Meanwhile, they wanted to make as much money as they could while at it and then have the audacity to blackmail me with threatening letters that they would ruin my credit if I do not pay them right away for the month of August. My question is to pay them for what? The inconvenience that I had to spend a day in the bank to make sure that everything is OK, for the day that I had to take off from work and go to the main offices of my apartment complex offices to tell them that I am not covered and I need an extension to find another company, or for the time I had to spend to find a company to insure my apartment in a last minute notice. It is unethical and it has to be illegal what Ameriprise/Progressive does.
All they had to do, if they are an honest company, is call me right away; and I would contact my bank and resolve the issue right away. Instead, they drop my coverage, decline to accept payment for the whole year, but they do want to make a month's worth of money for doing nothing. Very clever! They can be making $10 a month out of several people and then dropping them and scaring them that they will ruin their credit if they do not pay them the $10. Unacceptable!

If I could rate Ameriprise as less than one star, I would. My daughter got married on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012. I did my taxes on Monday, Oct. 15. To say I have been overwhelmed is an understatement. I forgot to pay the car insurance, which was due Monday, Oct. 15, 2012. I tried to log on to their website but it would not let me. I was beyond frustrated I called but could not get through their robot voicemail. I hung up and called Tuesday, Oct. 16th to speak to a real person. When I spoke to the real person, they told me my policy was lapsed and they did not care that I was a customer since 2005. They told me they could not reinstate me because I had too many claims (I did not). They could not come up with the claims so then they kept repeating I did not pay on time so I was cancelled.
The now very annoying woman transferred me to Progressive were they wanted twice as much for the same policy. I said, "No, that is too much." He suggested I call Ameriprise back and start a new policy. I called Ameriprise back and spoke to a real person who told me I could not start a new policy, as I was uninsured. They cannot insure people who are uninsured. I said, "I was insured yesterday until midnight by your company!" She was sorry I was now ineligible for a new policy. What a nightmare. When I calmed down, I called back and spoke to a supervisor who told me that unfortunately, since my policy lapsed, there was nothing he could do. I said I was very aware, as that phrase had been repeated to me about 10 times by the two previous agents. I said, "Why did they not reinstate me? It was lapsed by a few hours." He searched my history to see why they would not want me as a customer. He could not come up with any reason, as I am a good driver and accident free. I paid my policy on time since 2005 until this Monday lapse.
He finally had to admit that because other customers had high claims, they redid their guidelines. I was cut because other customers had accidents? There was no reason why I was not being reinstated. But because I did not pay my bill yesterday, they now have the power to cancel me. That was it. I highly recommend that you do not purchase Ameriprise Auto Insurance. Why would you want to work with a company that has no scruples? They have no loyalty toward their customers. Their agents are like robots and are taught to repeat phrases over and over. Save yourself the misery. Sorry I have to skip the profanity but be assured I am thinking it.
I now have Geico Insurance who was happy to insure me as I had insurance coverage within the last 30 days. He was delightful and gave me a good price for the same policy and for $20 more for six months, I got $20,000 more of medical insurance, plus rental insurance was included at no cost. They took my money over the phone and I had coverage a minute later, a good end to a nightmare.

We have had our cars and home insured with Ameriprise for over 5 years. Though their agents can be polite, they can be rude and immovable, even when they have incorrect information. My husband recently called to verify the policy on an older car that we let our college student use once in a while. He has a motorcycle for 90% of his transportation needs (insured through a different company). By the end of this verification phone call, my husband was accused of lying about the use and garaging of this car. My husband was so upset about this encounter that he removed this car from our Ameriprise policy. We then received 4 or 5 calls a day wanting to "verify the garaging of our 2 other vehicles.”
I called to verify they are in our garage, the same one they have been in since the beginning of our policy, and the same garage they insure for us! They actually put me on hold to "verify" this. They also stated that even though my son only borrowed the car 10% of the time, it would have to be charged for "garaging" at his place due to previous documentation (i.e. the erroneous info the previous agent had entered).
The icing on the cake came when my husband's father passed away and his mom gave him his dad's old truck. My husband called to add it to our policy. He was asked if there was any "damage" to the truck. My husband told them, "A few scratches and dings - it is an old truck.” Ameriprise refused to insure the truck until the "damage" was repaired and documentation verifying this was submitted. I asked if we could take the truck to one of their adjusters and have them document the "damage" before it was insured instead of paying money we don't have to fix minor/cosmetic damages. The answer was very familiar, "Because of documentation by our underwriters and agent from the original call about this truck, we are unable to offer this as an option.”
This company and its agents act like they are doing their customers (even those in good standing and long-term) a huge favor by letting us pay them money. Their rates have been competitive and we get a discount for being Costco members, but saving $10-20 per month is no longer worth being treated in this manner.

Deceptive practices of Ameriprise Financial - My complaint is about an Ameriprise financial planner who withheld vital information about a fund he endorsed and sold to me. Three years ago, as I was about to retire, I opened an Ameriprise account to obtain professional help in managing my finances. I explained to the Ameriprise advisor that, due to my age, I wished to invest conservatively. He suggested several mutual funds and encouraged investment in Inland American Real Estate Investment Trust, saying that investment in real estate would "round out" my portfolio and that buying shares in a REIT would be much safer than buying individual property.
Trusting him, I placed a considerable amount of money in the REIT and soon after doing so, I began receiving correspondence from Inland American that noted that this REIT has not yet gone public. Until it does, it is impossible to sell the shares. I immediately contacted the advisor asking why he suggested this fund, since there are many publicly traded REITs whose shares are publicly traded. He replied, "It will eventually go public and you will thank me." I said, “I don't want the shares,” and asked Ameriprise to purchase them from me since I would not have bought them had the nature of the fund been disclosed. They refused to buy the shares back.
Inland American periodically writes to investors advising them that shares will again be devalued (they have been devalued twice since I purchased them) and that they have no idea if or when the fund will go public. I have retired but have no access to the money invested in Inland American. For all intents and purposes, the investment is worthless.

Ten year ago, my husband and I went to American Express financial advisors, because my husband was preparing to retire. We went there to find out the best thing to do with our stocks and investments, once we retired. To make a long story short, we wound up being sold a variable life insurance/investment policy, in lieu of the spousal retirement benefit that we would have gotten from GE. We were told that if we took the spousal retirement option from GE, and I passed away before my husband did, the monthly deduction from my husband's pension, would never stop, even if I passed away first.
However, if we put the same amount of money each month into this variable life insurance policy, then, if I died first, my husband could just cancel the policy and not have to make monthly payments anymore. So, we bought this life insurance policy. Then we were told the payments would be over $500 a month, unless we front loaded the investment portion of the policy with $10,000. So we cancelled another life insurance policy we had and took the proceeds and invested $10,000 in this variable life policy investment account.
A few years later, this policy and investment account were the subject of a class action lawsuit, in which Ameriprise was ordered to pay us $11,000 and they put the lawsuit payment proceeds into the investment portion of our accounts. So, we were paying $440.65 a month, and approximately $153.00 was going to pay the premium for the insurance each month, and the excess payment was going into the investment account. We got a statement every month and a quarterly report on our investments, and over time the investment account reached $48,000+.
Fast forward to December 2, 2009. My husband passed away. I file a claim for the life insurance, and was paid the policy face value. Then I go online and find that Ameriprise has zeroed out our investment accounts and taken the money. When I contacted them about this, they researched it for two and half months and then sent me a letter that basically said "yup, we checked and our contract with you says that we get the investment money. Sorry."
Now the money in that account was our hard earned after tax dollars, money paid to them above and beyond the cost of insurance, and money they were court-ordered to pay us along with interest on the same. They sent us a quarterly statement for years, leading us to believe that this was our money. They encouraged us over and over again to invest more in this investment account, indicating that if my husband lived into his eighties, there might not be enough in there to cover the rising cost of insurance premiums. However, they never, ever told us that every dime that we invested in those investment accounts would be lost if my husband passed away before we had a need to use it.
Furthermore, Ameriprise basically settled the court order to pay their clients on the lawsuit by paying themselves. They simply put the settlement money into investment accounts that, as it turns out, belonged to them, not the client. Then they paid themselves interest on the money, sent out little statements so the clients would not know that the money wasn't theirs and waited for the insured to die and then took it all back. Amazing! !
When my husband died, his pension and social security stopped. I am left with the $350,000 in insurance and must rely on market return for my living. In light of today's market, I guess I don't need to say much more. The advisor that sold us this policy in lieu of fixed pension, said we would get at least a 10% return and probably more like 15% if I invested the insurance money. Obviously that was just some more hype and sales *. I can't even get 3% in today's market. When my husband was alive we got $4,000. a month in income. Now, I get whatever the current CD rate and investment rate is $350,000.
I don't believe any honest, ethical financial advisor would ever advise a client to give up a fixed, guaranteed for life, pension payment and take on a life insurance policy instead, that would require a dependence on the market for income. I didn't know it back then, but I know it now. These folks really, really ** us, and they still are. They are not going to give me our $48,000. It's fraud, after fraud, after fraud!

We paid $450.00 a month faithfully. At one point, I noticed that the direct withdrawal was not being made by Ameriprise. I called and was told that the dividends were paying it. I asked that the withdrawal still be made to build the fund; it was started up again. I also withdrew (I think) $7000 once for home repairs. When I asked about repaying that, I was told I didn't have to, that it was my money.
So after 16 years of paying, last year I get a call from an agent telling me that our account is in trouble and that I have to invest $80,000.00 in it, but that I am not allowed by law to invest that much. The agent wanted me to cancel the VLI and get a new insurance policy, losing over $81,000.00 that we had paid into it. I refused, I do not understand these things and I paid Ameriprise to do a job managing the policy for me and they ** it up.
This agent also called me from his home on a private phone and advised me to call "a friend" of his about other insurance, and not to tell anyone because he would lose his job. Now I have another agent from them calling me and telling me the same things but he wants me to invest over $1,000.00 a month and whatever other monies I can to make the fund work again. But he says I can invest money into the fund because I have not invested other money besides the regular monthly premium. I am so confused about this.
When we first started the fund, we had one agent who I liked and (silly me) trusted; he would call us every few months and ask if everything was still the same. Then he transferred the fund to another agent, who I never heard from. Then I got the call about investing the 80K, then never heard from him and now the new agent is calling and expecting me to do something immediately. I cannot afford to drop the policy for 235K which I will need for myself and our now 14-year old son. I don't know if I can keep making the payments above the $450 a month especially when he tells me that the costs could go to over $1,500.00 a month. He even told me that I should drop that policy and take one for 50 or 60K instead, that would be less than what I had already paid in, and I would still be paying.
My husband is 67 and I am 56 years old with our 14 year old son, still at home. I don't think I have forgotten anything that has happened since this nightmare started. But we do feel that Ameriprise has not done the job we have been paying them faithfully (direct withdrawal) for 16 years to do. It is just not fair. I told the last agent that I have a 10 year old home and everyday I walk around it and tell myself that I need to fix this or repair that, Why did it take them 15 years to notice that our Fund/policy was in trouble? I have not been able to sleep. Every day I think about the money I have paid to Ameriprise and what I have to continue to pay.
I have considered selling our handicapped accessible home we built to pay into the fund but I don't want to do that because we need it, especially now since I am taking care of my 88 years old mother-in-law who is also a KIA veterans widow. Every commercial I see on TV for Ameriprise, I just want to scream. I had to tell my husband what was going on with the policy/fund and he is also sick and depressed about it. We just don't know what we can, or should do, if anything. I pray there is someone who can help, we are just not very educated people and thought we were doing the right thing to help our retirement and old age. The agent wants me to invest every cent I have in savings, which isn't much but it is money we use for cars, home and car repairs and just leisure, thinking that we had everything else covered with the policy. Now we are afraid to do anything.

I have an umbrella policy with this insurance company. I called originally because I have a crack on my windshield. I was told by the customer service that they don't cover glass damage in New Jersey. They ask me if I wanted to put a claim which would affect my $500 deductible. Since the damage was minor I thought it could be fixed. I found out the next day that it could be fixed for free as part of my comprehensive policy, but by that time, the damage has spread from 1/2 inch to about 10 inches.
The insurance company does not want to take any responsibilities on paying for the damage. I was never told by the customer service that they have a separate glass division.I was not directed to the right person that's why I wasn't aware that the damage could be fixed for free if they have handled this correctly. The windshield could have been fixed right away before the damage got worse. Windshield replacement needed to be done and it cost me $348.00. I want that reimbursed.

My father bought a $110k "Universal Life" policy and rates increased yearly to over $1000 a month. After we investigated, we found out if a claim is submitted, the policy would only be 1/3 of value - if that. The broker would not respond via telephone or mail for past few months but the secretary said that the best way to contact was by email (my 83-year-old father does not know computers!). Family recently was in progress changing to another service and Ameriprise is dragging their feet.

I requested my withdrawal of my 401K Plan with Ameriprise Financial. I requested this on 10/14/09. I was told by Piyush on that same day that it would not be a problem and that I would be receiving my full balance withdrawal within 7 days. And I specifically stated I need it for my mortgage, because I am close to foreclosure. My bank is waiting for this money. They sent a collection agent to my home, and I showed them the Ameriprise paperwork showing that the transaction from Ameriprise was being processed. This money would be used specifically for my mortgage payment.

I worked for Ameriprise and they are a selling organization. The "advisers" don’t have any education in finance and are trained often by freshly minted college or even high school grads. It was pathetic, the only thing they did is teach how to corner and sell useless plans and mediocre products. As an MBA, I had a great advantage and that helped me tremendously but they provided no guidance. All they wanted was for the advisers to sell financial plans, Variable Universal Life insurance and annuities.
The company's management was reckless and got into trouble with the state regulators. I can't believe that I associated myself with this company. They are a greedy organization with no respect for the concept of fiduciary at all, bad company. I saw good ethical people punished verbally in front of their peers for not performing, meaning selling something to someone that did not need it. Even when client complaints are in writing, they would not report them to FINRA, a gross violation of FINRA's rules. This company should not be allowed to operate.

Five months ago my friend passed away and left her finace and myself beneficiaries to her accounts with Ameriprise Financial. This was not a life insurance policy. They refuse to hand over the accounts. They want the death certificate to read it was not a homicide. The autopsy report wasn't sufficient nor was the amended death certificate. The doctors have said this wasn't a homicide, but the actual cause of death is undetermined.
The woman I speak to hangs up on me, or puts me on hold without saying so. Very rude. When I ask to speak to their legal department I never get an answer. I have a suspicious feeling I will never see this money, and if I do they may give me some answer like it depreciated or something.
This has actually caused me a lot of my time and distress. I just want to be over with this. The longer I have to work on this the more upset it makes me that my friend has passed away.

My biggest concern was his disclosure of personal medical information with Ameriprise corporate. I feel that this information is strictly private and confidential and concerned that Mr. F disclosed this information within Ameriprise without my consent. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I do not believe my personal medical information is appropriate for any conversation within Ameriprise.

Ameriprise is all over asking for ANYONE with a pulse to come be a financial planner, using the pitch No experience necessary. Last year, they even tried to recruit my friend who has a degree in AGRICULTURE! She knows NOTHING about finance! I was young and stupid and out of college and got several harrassing calls from Amy Limas-Hanson, finally agreeing to come in. I bought their BS hook, line and sinker.
I now have a depreciating life insurance policy that is the worst plan for a person of my age and lifestyle. My advisor had no financial experience other than the sales training Ameriprise had given her, which is focused more on making HER money than securing my fiancial future. I'm embarassed for being so stupid. They must love people like me who also have no financial background and aren't aware of savings options, etc. They will do whatever is best for them, not you.
In fact, that was the main complaint of the multi-millon dollar Class Action Law Suit that was filed against them about 6 months ago, stating their advisors acted in the interest of selling something for commission, wasting tens of thousands of dollars of their client's money on financial products that will not benefit them. YOU MUST DEMAND that your financial planner has a degreed background in fiance. I personally would only let someone with at least a masters degree or several financial planner certifications and a track record of success manage my account. Please be careful and stay away from the uneducated planners of Ameriprise!

In November 2006 my wife (8 months pregnant), my 73 year old mother-in-law and myself were in a automobile accident and suffered some serious injuries. I had purchased the medical rider for my policy covering up to $50k of medical bills. Only my wife has needed extended treatment (2x month physical therapy) and have only used about $9k of the total coverage.
Ameriprise is refusing to cover the last two treatments as they stated their independent medical examiner does think she requires further treatment even though our Doctor, Chiropractor and Physical Therapist have disagreed. When I asked about an appeals process I was told to go get a lawyer. I re-iterated that I was willing to sign off on closing this case as long as they approved the final treatments, but they refused.
I have reported them to our Insurance Commissioner.

I received a post card in the mail for a free no obligation financial planning pamphlet. I sent it back but said that I did not want to be contacted by Ameriprise Financial (I am on the do not call list). I received repeated harassing phone calls and finally agreed to meet with the financial adviser who was aggressive and unyielding. I ended up investing my 401K's in an annuity with them. He did not explain the terms of the annuity including any surrender charges and refused to managed my investments according to my express wishes. He was argumentative and even though he eventually agreed to move my funds and requested blatantly to put them where he wanted them. I filed a formal complaint with their compliance department (they are bound by their industry regulations) and they made excuses, didn't address the issue and refused to rectify the situation. I will pursue additional recourse as this company seems to endorses unethical practices.
Between the money that the investor lost and the surrender charges, I have lost $17,000. I have moved my money into a money market type of account to stop the hemorrhaging. After I have exhausted my options I will get my money into the hands of a reputable firm. I refuse to deal with this company again.

We filed a bill for medical services for injuries to a patient. She sent it to her carrier, ameriprise auto & home ins. They sent a bill review back, disallowing about 25% of the charges, using explanations such as the procedure code billed is an invalid code for the date of service entered. When we contacted them, I was told the system did not recognized the code. It was a standard billing code used nationwide. they repriced the billing amounts with this explanation; the procedure code referenced by the provider was used more than what is normally expected within the scope of a provider per claim. The code they refer to was used ONCE for a final exam. This is very customary in an injury case. As you can see, the explanations are gibberish and unsupported. the adjuster claimed that their bill review was used on thousands of bills. Our bills are based on worker's compensation fee schedules, so they are among the lowest fees used. Evidently, that isn't low enough, as far as the PAYOR is concerned. We have filed medical malpractice complaints against them, as it is illegal to change billing codes to reduce fees or refuse payment for arbitrary reasons.
Failure to pay billed procedures, loss of $1001.33.

My disabled child and myself were involved in a two MVA in October 2007. The driver of the other vehicle was cited. Her insurance company, Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance, was absolutely horrible to deal with. For the first couple weeks I tried to work out an agreement with them, since my vehicle was a total loss. They offered me much less than the value of the car. I told them this was not acceptable, that I was not asking for anything above and beyond the value of the car, but just a fair price so that I may purchase something of similar prior condition, value, and mileage. They lied to me and told me that they had actually offered me a very generous amount, and that I should not turn it down. I contacted my attorney to get her involved. She found that the value of my car was much higher than they had admitted to me. My attorney was unable to reach Jill, the professional handling my claim, for nearly two weeks. By the time everything was agreed upon, it was mid-December 2007. I was told to mail my car title to them. I did so.
They had my car towed away. At this point I had no car or title...and no check. After a few days I called to see why I had not received the check for my damaged vehicle. They told me they never received my car title. I had to go purchase a new one and have it sent overnight, all at my expense. An hour after I mailed the second car title, they contacted me to tell me the original one had been found. The date on the check was the day AFTER they stopped paying for my car rental. I took the check to the bank so that I could purchase another vehicle that I had found. The bank had to hold the check for seven business days due to the amount and it being an out of state check. By the time it was all said and done, I was charged approximately $990.00 out of my own pocket for a car rental, due to their poor business practices. This is almost 1/3 of the total check I received.
I was also informed by Enterprise Car Rental that Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance was very hard to reach, and that they were refusing to pay approximately another $800.00 of the car rental that they had earlier agreed to pay. Enterprise told me at this time that I may also be charged the additional $800.00. I contacted my attorney who then contacted both Enterprise and Ameriprise to hopefully stop the additional $800.00 from being charged to me. Bottom line, I am a divorced mother raising a disabled child alone. I had reliable transportation to get my child to and from school, doctors appointments, therapies, etc. Now, I was forced to buy a car of lesser value.
Due to Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance shady business practices, I am now nearly $1,000.00 in the hole for an accident that was not my fault. Again, I never asked for anything above and beyond what was owed to me. I had to fight to get what I got...and still didn't come close to breaking even. This company has put me in an extremely tough spot financially.

I am a Certified Financial Planner and decided to apply for a position with Ameriprise. The interview was based solely on testing my ability to sell something to a client that they did not want. They used a sales pitch for travel rather than financial, using an employee to test how I could convince them to go on a trip that they did not want. They figured if I could do this, financial conviction would be no problem. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE. There are many honest CFP's out there; don't use Ameriprise.

On 02/28/2007 I called my insurance company to add another vehicle to my policy and they told me I involved in an accident on 07/06/2006 and they put me at fault and paid to two other parties. This company didn't contact me before or after they made decision on this claim. I traveled on a three-lane road and one guy switched in front of me so fast and hit on the car in front of me. It causes lot of damages to his front end and other cars rear end. Since he took the space in front of me, my car barley hit his rear after I stopped my car. There were no damages on the front end of my car or his car's rear end. When I spoke with my insurance company they told I'm only responsible for the rear end damages of the car in front of me. I believed them and didn't follow up the claim since there were no damages on my car or other party’s rear end. This insurance company didn't inform me any thing else until I called and add another car to this policy. Ameriprise didn't even inform me before or after they settled this claim. Now my driving history looks bad and I have no idea how to fight with these people.

Back in April 15-2004 I opened an IRA Mutual Fund with American Express Financial Advisors Inc, In Plantation,Fla office. Now the Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. After 4 months my financial advisor was promoted and from this time it has been a roller coaster dealing with Ameriprise. Since this change for more financial advisors were allocated to handle my account and each time I have asked to review and change my portfolio as the market has changed since the origination time, no one of the assigned advisors have done so.
All what they have done is to try to sell me other products such as life insurance, even in 2005 when I requested and paid for a personal financial analysis, it was not done, although the fee was returned but the time and aggravation that I have encountered it is like a nightmare. Can you imagine 4 time my financial advisor was changed. They claim that the reason is because they have been promoted. I do not believe it -- I think it is more a turnover or representatives.
To this day the last one that came I knew of her through a letter she send me about 6 months ago. I have not heard from her since then. May be my portfolio is too small for them to be interested in helping me adjust it to the new market conditions. I have been dealing with Wachovia Securities and I found that they are very profesional and they are helping me tremendously.

I then went online since it is after hours and see my account information has not been updated since 1/20/06 and my old advisor is listed!! They are now ruining my credit and they need to make this right and let me close my account!!
