This company is really bad in every way, shape and form. They allowed charge but rather encourage it from a sister company to them. A charge I didn't agree on whatsoever. One day after I called them about money they have on hold for no apparent reason at all and they pissed me off and I told them once this money released I am done and wanna close the account. Next day a charge appeared from a hotel belong to a company they associated with 4 days after I checked out from. We all need to do something against this company. I am calling out to everyone here with bad experience with them to contact me or get together somehow to start a legal action against them.

My father was told he'd have his money weeks ago but he hasn't received anything! Is now been 2 1/2 months... We were told that if he kept accessing his online account or calling customer service, his account would then be locked... That's bull if you ask me!!! Last year he had 4000 to all of a sudden disappear from his account. They told us all types of crap but it still doesn't amount to why his money went missing and he still hasn't gotten it back! I'm really starting to miss those paper checks!??? Maybe that's why they want us to carry these cards!??? It's just way too easy for them to get it from us and that ain't right!!!

I lost my card, with $200.00 balance, called immediately to cancel it, I was told I should receive one within the next 10 days, 4 months passed and after calls and calls, and promises that the would "return my call" thing that never happened, finally got one replacement, which did not work. I could not get my money because they said I suppose to get one with my name print in it. Another 3 months have passed, I've been called every single day, they said they don't know why I can't have my money back, which is so stupid. I finally got my new card and still can't have my own money! This is ridiculous! They are not even in USA, they are in Philippines, and they keep lying about my money.
Since the beginning I was told that they were going to transfer the money with MoneyGram or Western Union, kept giving me "numbers" and telling me that my transfer was ready. When I went to the businesses, they told me that that confirmation number did not exist, and up today, they said that my case was transferred to another department and they are going to revise my case and take a resolution, that I am going to receive something in the mail, but another 2 months have passed and still can't get my money back! THEY ARE SUCH A LIARS AND ROBBERS AND I REGRET A LOT TO JUST APPLY FOR THIS ** STUPID CARD!

I've had Amex Serve for 2 years. I have NEVER had an issue with my money etc... except one time. I had an issue with a hold however the money was reversed back to my account within the 7 days since the merchant didn't come to get it. Too bad for the ones who claim Amex is stealing from them. If it's that bad maybe you should invest and look for another prepaid card to suit your needs. So tell me. Complaining on this website did it help you get your funds any sooner? How did that work out for you??? That's why people need to research these prepaid and debit cards before running to have their direct deposits and taxes loaded... Just be real. You use these cards because of the idea of getting your money faster than normal. However we all know most of the times things just don't happen that way...

American EXPRESS SERVE IS A UNRELIABLE SERVICES COMPANY. IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY AT ALL AND NEVER WILL BE EVER. The employees are so sorry and dumb it’s not even funny at all and never will be ever. Even when you tell them the truth about anything at all. Like you didn't open account with them. That someone else has done it without your acknowledging until you got something from them and then they decide to close it permanently and all they know what to say is, "I'm so sorry"! When they are full of crap and lies and a ripoff.

I’ve been with Serve since at least 2014 and I have zero complaints, reading these reviews I’m astonished, but I do understand people’s psyche in situations pertaining to money, as well so I get it, but I also gotta keep it 100% from my end. So I use Serve for my partial DD from my employer as well as my refunds this year and past. I’ve had servers situations where I had invalid charges and disputed them, some ongoing as we speak. Every single time I have called them (even though I can tell they do outsource). It has been pleasant, the customer service has always been top notched, my issues were resolved in a timely manner, and no language barrier.
I am always paid two day earlier (should be Friday but mine generally post before noon on Wed) my refund post earlier no holds or issues. US Bank has never charged me a withdraw fee at ATM and my disputes were always completed and fund returned to my account in days (hoping this one goes as smooth as previous ones???). So I’m not sure if all these negative reviews are isolated incidents for these folk but I do understand that it only takes one bad experience with my money for me to quickly write and rate negatively when my money is involved, however since I really can’t say that Amex has rub me the wrong way even once I had to let the world know! Toodles I may be back writing again if my dispute don’t go as planned.

How is this company still in business? They have literally robbed so many people out of their money. Supposedly required fees for literally everything, almost afraid to look at my card in fear it will charge me! Now a week later I'm waiting for my return, my money! They said no later than 7 days. Well it is past 7 days. They are very disrespectful when called. I don't know who else to call other the people who barely understand me and I can barely understand. I pray Jackson Hewitt does not use this company for their services next year! Serve is such a scam for a decent company like American Express!

So - I had a somewhat minor problem, that led me here (I loathe calling ‘customer service’ anywhere because it’s become almost nonexistent. It’s SAD. I’m pleasantly surprised when treated properly)... I googled my issue & found this site. I was this close to direct depositing my taxes on my Serve too! Until now I’ve done BASIC TRANSACTIONS. I had an awful experience with Amazon taking $99 off my Serve - that I solved MYSELF. So after HOURS I got Amazon to give me a $20 goodwill refund too (what sports)... Well AmEx put the money returned to me ‘on hold for review that could take up to 7 days’, UM WHAT? Why would MY CARD HOLD MY MONEY GIVEN TO ME? So after 2 days of head scratching I called BIG MISTAKE!
*KEEP IN MIND THE TRANSACTION AMAZON ‘ATTACHED’ THE REFUND TO (most likely out of ease as it was my last transaction) was paid mostly by Amazon Gift Card & $3 balance with my Serve* CALL 1: The explanation given ‘if the original charge wasn’t on your Serve, we won’t accept refund’ (AGAIN: HUH? You’re really fact checking all my Amazon orders?) I was like ‘that’s INSANE, you are supposed to be my card, supporting me as the consumer?’ I did your job when Amazon took $99 because the Amex ‘merchant dept’ or whatever was closed! I spent HOURS squeezing the billion dollar company I FREQUENTLY BUY FROM for that apology $20 AND YOURE REVIEWING IT TO ULTIMATELY DENY? (Wasn’t yelling, just aghast). She seriously just hung up - because she couldn’t answer for the asinine policy or apparently pass me to a Sup.... just click!
CALL 2: DISASTER! This guy, after me explaining previous call and saying the policy doesn’t work for me, PROCEEDED TO YELL, CONDESCEND ME saying like ‘was it denied yet’ no but I was basically told it would be, he was sighing all exasperated - just honestly the rudest! Then I get a AMEX recording ‘We are sorry. We are suddenly experiencing technical difficulties, please try your call again’. THEY HAVE A PRE RECORDED FAKE EXPLANATION FOR CALL BEING TERMINATED! That’s the craziest thing ever! *Shame on me for not getting or remembering names (if they even give real ones).
CALL 3: Asked for Supervisor, was told I was number 2 in queue... waited 37 mins, hung up KNOWING I would just end up angry when the supervisor treated me like garbage too. Bad behavior & garbage service all trickles down from top (see Amazon, pre billionaire service awesome, now HORRID. But like I said GOOD CS is exception not norm anymore - when everything is so overpriced & we are squeezed for every penny too - so sad). Here’s something else telling, because of my work hours *it was 3 AM EASTERN (so still late out west too) when I was *number two in the queue and already waited 37 minutes for supervisor when I said forget it* I think that’s pretty telling also!
*THANK YOU ALL FOR TELLING YOUR STORIES AND SAVING ME THE AGGRAVATION OF MY OWN REFUND NIGHTMARE! I’m so so sorry you are having your money held hostage by another billion dollar company, believe me nothing is worse when you need your money you work so hard to get & greed mongers keep it from you! Serve cards (me & Husbands) are officially cut up!

On February 7, 2018 I had money stolen from my card. I called as soon as I found this out. A dispute was filed. After many telephone calls over many days, and very rude unhelpful customer service reps, I was told that it could take up to 45 business days for my money to be returned to me. I even had a customer service rep ask me, "Well what do you want me to do about it?" I finally contacted the merchant where the card was used and they refunded the money to my account. I shouldn't have had to do that. On February 13, 2018 I sent a payment through their bill pay to my landlord to pay my rent. There should have been no problems... Right?
On March 1 I found out from my landlord that they had not received the check. I called Bluebird and asked if I put a stop payment on the check how long would it take to get my money back. The man said within the week. On March 2, 2018 I contacted Bluebird again to put the stop payment on the check. I was told I would receive my money by March 6, 2018 by 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Well, It was not there. So I called the afternoon of March 6. I was on hold to talk to a supervisor for 32 minutes. I had to call back and then was assured that my money would be back in my account the next day. It was not there. I called again. I was put on hold for 45 minutes.
I was told that the dispute resolution team could take 4 business days to render their decision and then the money would be back in my account, and that I needed to look for an email from the dispute resolution team in my email, and respond to it. I was on hold for 45 minutes. No email today. No money. When I called today I was put on hold for a supervisor for over 15 minutes. I had to hang up and call back. Ann answered the phone the second time and at this time told me that the dispute resolution team had up to 10 business days to investigate, and it could take 45 days to get the money put back in my account.
In the meantime I am facing eviction for my rent not being paid by March 1st. I was assured on more than one occasion that it would not take 45 days for the stop payment. There is nothing to investigate. A paper check was sent, it has not been cashed or deposited. It will not be cashed or deposited. I need my money back. It is now March 12. I was promised on March 9th the money would be in my account today. Still not there. When I called today I was told the next dispute resolution review will be March 14th. There is no dispute to resolve or review. This is the biggest load of crap I've ever had to deal with.

Employees are rude, Yvette will disconnect with you by placing you on hold and ooops I lost ya mentality. If you ask for anything past then verifying who you are. Other than that their hands are tied. You must wait 10 days again. Tax loan and account set up February 13th and was to be received no later than February 28th. It's now March 8th. After numerous attempts and 3 purposely disconnected calls and an even worse battle with a supervisor. Called "King I Don't Care". I received a card with another account number and account info. This card I didn't apply for or sign up for. But I somehow got this and I'm still awaiting my correct account card. Going on 8 days past the original 10 days and still no card. Where is my money? They refuse to transfer funds to current card or account. Asked for temporary card. Which should take. Yep you guessed it. 10 more days.
Credit Karma uses these idiots. Stu lest from my experience idiots. Do not do your taxes thru them. Pay have them done. Or go to Turbo Tax. You will regret it. It's free. However the term you hey what you pay for surely applies here. Stay clear American Express Serve. Not a better alternative to a bank account. Not faster. They don't care. All they can say is verify or 10 days. It's not even a better alternative to shooting yourself in the foot for trying to take the cheap way out. Absolute nightmare. Take my word for it. I'm not even mad anymore and this is the nicest I can be in regards to American Express you've been served account card.

I was lied to when I went to Jackson Hewitt and got talked into the American Express Serve card. I was told the atm in Wal-Mart would allow me to pull out up to $3500 a day without a fee or I could use the Serve app to find an atm to withdraw without a fee. That was a lie. I went to 3 atms from the map on the app and they all charged me between $2.00 to $4.00 to withdraw up $500.00 plus American Express then charged me an additional $3.50 on top of the atm fees and the atm in Wal-Mart didn't work for 3 days. When they fixed it I couldn't get any money off of my card as it kept telling me and others in line that were using the same card that there was an error. I ended up having to pay almost $50.00 and it took 6 days to get my money off of their card. It is a scam.

On 02/16/2018 I received an e-mail stating my tax returned was deposited in my American Express card. No rush too busy working. On 02/20/2018 I looked at my account noticed there were two pendings on my account which I did not make. One from Home Depot in Riverside, CA over 2 hours away from my house for the amount of $433.90 and another from McDonald's in Riverside, CA for $11.46 total of $445.36. I called them up. They answered. I told them about the pending on the card that I did not authorized, my card is with me. (Should have said it was stolen, maybe then action would have taken place.) The lady I spoke with had to repeat herself over 5 times because I couldn't understand what she said. She transfer my call to the fraud department. I repeated myself. Said, I did not make those transactions, do not submit the authorization. (What I think the said, because I couldn't understand half of what they said.)
They said, "Don't worry, we are going to investigate, we will not authorize the pending transactions. And we will send you a new card. And yes you will get your money put back into your account." (After I asked over 10 times.) All is well I thought. Later that night at around 10:33 PM I received a text. 'Serve Fraud Free Msg: Did you try to charge $7.27 on Card ending **** at DANIEL **, MD-E? Reply 1 if Yes, 2 if No.' (I didn't reply until the next morning at work). This transaction was in Texas. The account wasn't mine so I thought. Call them up the lady on the other end. Said it was my new card that they are sending. I asked her how is that possible that someone else is using it already when it didn't even leave your building. She said don't worry your account is frozen they can't use it anyway.
I'm trying to explain to her when I do reactivate my card they too will have access to it. She transferred me to the fraud dept. First I told him about Home Depot and McDonald's and then about my inactivated new American Express Card. He said pretty much the same thing she said. She probably didn't even transfer me. He was probably sitting right next to her. I told him I called yesterday regarding this and he said, "Oh yes I see it on file." So on 02/23/2018 I look at my account again before work. And lo and behold the pending 2 transaction went through. So right away I called up. She tried to understand what I was saying and I tried to understand what she was saying.
She said she was going to transfer me to fraud again but she said if we get disconnected call this number 800-555-4318. And of course we got disconnected. So I called up that number and they answered after waiting for like 8 minutes. I spoke with a person that spoke better English. Right away I asked for his name. "Mark" he said. I told him the whole story again, did not authorize, about my new card I don't have yet, but yet someone is trying to use it. Why the pendings went through. And that I call on the 20th regarding this. He said, "I have no information regarding your calls, but it does show a new card is being sent." He said, "Let me check to see who you spoke with last." He said, "The person is right here in the same room." He proceeded to say, "I will put the dispute in right now regarding The Home Depot and McDonald's. It will take 7 to 10 days for any action." Before I even hung up it was in my E-Mail.
About the pending he said, "We can't stop any pending transactions, said after it goes through then you can make a dispute regarding fraudulent use." Regarding my new card that I don't have yet. He doesn't understand how that could have happened. So hopefully, I will get my money back. Once everything is said and done my money is out of American Express, leave home without it!

My husband's tax refund was deposited onto our American Express Serve card Saturday 2/17/2018 where upon receiving a email stating that the refund was in and available we go to a ATM to make a withdraw where the ATM proceeds to decline the transaction. Thinking it's a ATM malfunction we go to a different one where it proceeds to say the same thing. Declined. So we go home and I call the number on the back of the card to find out that American Express Serve has deducted every declined ATM transactions off my account including the ATM fees. I have the receipt of the declined transactions and no money so I call customer service. Nothing. Sunday something. Nothing. When I did finally get to speak to a live human they barely speak English and inform me that I have to mail them the only copy of the declined transactions to dispute the charges and I would know something in 10 days.Um not going to happen. What?
So they can turn around and say they didn't receive them and refuse to reimburse what they stole. I don't think so. I do not have ** on my forehead and because I speak English does not make me stupid. I'm definitely not using either one of them again next year you can believe that. Oh yeah. It was Monday 2/19/2018. I was told that it's now Thursday 2/22/2018 and I'm still getting the runaround. It's **. Made the mistake of having my federal and state tax returns directly deposited into my AMEX Serve account. This is a service the company heavily markets to its customers touting how speedy it is. As soon as the federal return hit my account, AMEX froze the funds to "review" the account. It is now 20 days later. I'm still frozen out of my account. They have blocked me from even viewing transaction records. The state return hit the account 13 days ago, those funds are also not available to me.
I've been on the phone with them no fewer than 10 times getting the same robotic responses: "The account is under review because of unusual activity". What is the unusual activity? It's the direct deposit of my tax return. I guess a deposit from the United States Treasury is suspicious to them. This appears to be a way the company can hold customers money for extended periods. Customer service is awful. You can either call or use snail mail. No electronic communication. Phone calls are useless. Worst customer experience of my life, and I'm an old man. Don't get this card!

I went through Jackson Hewitt for my tax returns and was issued an American Express Serve Card. I received my taxes in a timely manner so no complaints there. However, I made a few purchases that I no longer wanted so I returned them to the stores and was told the money would go back on my card. No one told me I would have to wait 7-10 days for the money to be refunded back onto my card.
It shows up in your account that it was credited back and then shows it was taken back out under merchant credit hole for review. Takes them that long to review a credit on my account? BULL. My boyfriend also did his taxes about 1 week after mine and it took him about 2 weeks to get his returns. Once his were issued he could not use his card at all that day anywhere. Whether it was at an ATM or what, but we discovered it on My end through as credit. They teamed together and have been lying to all of us that are due refunds a bunch of lies. I received my taxes Saturday. One hour later I went to a motel. They ran my card for $318 but it was declined 3 times??? I went home and called. Every single penny in my account was being held by this motel not just the $318. So I ride back to check in thinking no worries only to realize they had no receipt of payment and this was a different amount???
I've been sleeping in my truck with my daughter that just got out of surgery for one night. Thank God that WoodSprings Suites understood my situation and agreed to let us go ahead and check in. A few hours ago my daughter started crying and worrying that we was gonna be put out at 11 because American Express hasn't answered since Saturday. And when they did the few times they gave such bogus stories the motel checked into it. On my transaction Id it said a code that doesn't exist with this motel. It said Louisville NE. If it was legitimately ran by the motel it would have said South. So good try American Express and Jackson Hewitt. Two of the most reputable companies out there so we thought. Knowing I had money on the card I tried to contact Serve for over 4 hrs. All I kept getting was a busy signal. After 4 hrs I was finally placed on a call waiting list for another hour. After waiting on hold for over an hour a lady comes on the line and informs me that she cannot help me with anything at this time due to their system being down. All she could tell me was my balance. She informed me until the issue was fixed I would not be able to access my money. She said she had no idea how long it would take to be fixed. This is a joke.
This company is a joke and I hope in the next coming tax season Jackson Hewitt finds a new bank to work with or myself and other loyal customers will be switching tax prep. It's bad enough the government holds our money, charges us more taxes than they should then when we go get a refund, the bank just holds the money and won't let you access it.
If American Express Serve could not handle the volumes of people from Jackson Hewitt then they should have never partnered with them. The declined transaction I had when I went to pay for my food was declined in the store but according to my account balance they actually paid out the money! It's unreal that you can't even trust the people who hold your money anymore. I hope after this year Jackson Hewitt wises up because this is bad for business. I will no longer file with them due to this because the same issue happened last year. AMERICAN EXPRESS SERVE GET YOUR act together if you cant handle high volumes then don't sign up for jobs you cant keep up with. I have filed a complaint with the BBB. and I hope others do as well.

Ugh!!! All I can say is this card service is a scam. I went to an ATM almost 3 weeks ago. The ATM did not dispense my $700. There was a malfunction with the machine. I immediately contacted this American Express Serve card service. They did their investigation and allegedly comes back with some information stating that are the ATM provided them will prove that a dispense cash. This is such a scam. When the bank manager verified the machine was out of service that was a malfunction. Even submitted a ticket for service and these people are still trying to claim that so American Express Serve has been giving me the run-around for almost 2 weeks because I reopen this dispute. They have not sent me the information that I've asked for from this alleged ATM. Come claiming that the cash was dispensed anyway. It's a scam. All the calls are internationally routed through the Asian market and it's a scam. It's just a business to make money.
They're not here to handle real life cases. Like I've used this card for 3 years and never have I had any issues with and the minute there's an issue pertaining to my hard-earned money then it's crickets. You know they've been giving me the runaround as soon as I would not recommend it at all. Again lot of places. Don't take American Express. It's really just a waste of time. Do cash back. That is even not worth it as well. I really regret not having a traditional checking account when this incident happened because I would have got my money back 3 weeks ago and now this company there you know actually I was getting more help more service from the bank ATM service that I used who I don't bank with. They've been more willing to provide more help to me than these so-called American to Serve American Express Serve card.
People are there just like I said to really help people because had that been the case they would have given me my money back. I had my paychecks connected to this card but I'm done. Yeah it's not worth the hassle because right now it's looking like the only way I'm going to get my money back Institute 700 whole dollars never dispensed and they're trying to claim that now. Mind you they haven't give me any proof. I've asked for proof for a whole week now. Where they get this information from? Still no proof. No written proof of any of this but yet I have all the proof. I have the footage showing that there was machine malfunction where they put the machine out of service. It's a scam. Please just beware.

I have NEVER dealt with a company that is completely helpless in servicing their customers as well as continuously lie and provide misinformation. I was literally on the phone with them recently (after dealing with them daily over the last two weeks) trying to resolve an issue. As always the representatives are eager to help, but they are "not able" to help in any way. How in the world do you not know to tell a customer that if your card is canceled for a new one to be ordered, you cannot transfer money to anyone else? According to the representative that I received, I would be able to transfer money to be picked up by myself to Walmart so I can have immediate access.
When I found that I was not able to transfer the funds, I was thinking that I was doing something incorrectly. I called back in only to find out that the representative provided incorrect information, but I would be able to transfer funds to another Serve cardholder. So, my husband went out and bought a Serve card so that we could transfer the funds to his card. The transfer was successful and we were excited. However, the card did not register correctly, and created a separate account that was not linked to the temporary card. The account successfully accepted the transfer, but not the account that is linked to the temporary card.
The temporary card created a whole separate account when we registered the card instead of connecting to the account where the funds were. Of course, American Express Serve cannot go in and do anything because that would be too much right. However, that did not stop them from giving out wrong information. First it came down to all we have to do is connect the temporary card to the email address since it is not registered. That was incorrect.
Then it came down to it should have never went through in the beginning because there was not an active card on the account. When I say this is BEYOND ridiculous, this is an understatement. Now we are forced to wait another 10 days to get a hold of money that has been sitting there for two weeks due to no fault of our own. Of course American Express does not see it as their fault because that would be too much like right. It has even gone to the point where I have had an advisor that told me that I was within my right to take whatever legal actions were necessary. What does that tell you?

Customer service is almost impossible to reach, representatives without any desire to answer your questions, no online chat or email and if you are lucky enough to get a refund from the merchant, (that's about the only way you will), be ready to wait 7 to 10 days to see what was once your cash deposited back into your account. They do not care about anything you have going on and they will not give you your money back until after 10 days even if it is their fault.

I was notified that there was suspicious activity on my Serve Card by their ** offshore customer service rep, so I instructed them to cancel my card, send me a replacement, and to FREEZE my account so nobody could mess with my account until I activated my replacement card... While my account was 'frozen', I had $4,410 stolen off my Serve card by someone online... Exactly HOW they were able to steal $4,410 while my account was frozen and I had no actual active card, I was never told...
I reported this fraudulent activity to American Express Serve Card's Fraud Protection Investigate Dept., on Aug. 16th, and on August 29th, one of their Fraud Investigators told me the investigation was 'resolved' in 'my favor' and the $4,410 would be returned on to my card the following day as a 'probationary credit'... The next day, (Aug. 30th 2017) and now an equally trained Fraud Investigator told me a completely different story... This time, I was told that the investigation was NOT complete, and it had been 'escalated'...
About 10 minutes later, I got 4 emails from American Express saying 'I HAD VIOLATED THEIR TERMS (15D) AND THEY HAD PERMANENTLY SUSPENDED (closed) and the $500 I had on my card would be mailed to me after they waited for any pending transactions to complete... Again: They denied my claim, and closed out my card with my cash on it. Do not... I repeat do NOT use this crap card. They simply didn't have any incentive to give me my stolen $4,410... They know EXACTLY who stole my money... But they found it easier to rip ME off... ** them.

I used to love this card. It even sent me 10 dollars one time because the ATM wasn't working. I had no problems up until recently. Some bills say they are paid when they are not. I almost got my car repossessed because the payments said they were there and they were not. I called over and over again trying to get something done about it and every time I called it was a different person and had to give all my info all over again. OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER.
One wire payment for 500 didn't make it but the one after it did make it. How the hell is that possible? Then I found out more bills said they were paid and they weren't. They did their investigation and said that the funds still hadn't arrived and that if I wanted the money back to call. So I did and I was told it was already closed and I had to open another claim. What in the hell is going on??? I am so disgusted with this card that once this is straightened out I am done with this card.
STAY FAR AWAY PEOPLE... I don't know what happened to this company but it clearly doesn't have the customers best interests at heart. If you like getting yourself so worked up that you feel you're gonna have a heart attack then go ahead and get the serve card. I am DISGUSTED!!! I curse the day I ever got this piece of crap card... On August 24, 2017, I decided to check my account to see if my direct deposit had come in by using the text to Serve service. I, in turn received a message back saying, "Serve: Sorry, it appears the following Cards ending in ** have been locked. Please call the number on the back of your card to unlock your account." So I followed the directions and this is what happened: I stayed on the phone with a representative who had no more than a script to repeat over and over again no matter what I said to her. After about 15 minutes of the runaround, I decided to ask for a supervisor. She said the issue with my account is that I tried to draw funding from a source that they could not verify that I held an account with. I realized my mistake was that I chose the wrong card when trying to fund the Serve card from another direct deposit from another employer in my Rushcard.
I had two listed and I never had been able to disable the Suntrust Bank account number from being listed in Serve as a funding source from years ago. Subsequently, I accidentally chose it at that point before I was locked. I admitted to my mistake when I realized the number she read was not the account I fund from regularly. So she started her script again that a supervisor would call me within 24 - 48 hours... Well, that is when I asked for a supervisor. I was put on a hold for about five minutes and she said that he was on another call and that he would call me back in thirty minutes or I could hold. I asked to hold but she acted like she forgot she gave me the option to hold and told me that he "would call me back and thank you, have a good day, goodbye."
I patiently waited as I continued my evening. I cooked, no call, I fed the family, no call, I watched a Netflix show, guess what? So I called... Same rigmarole with a new customer service rep and then she tried to tell me that I never called earlier in the evening and the record shows no notes that a supervisor was to call back. Well, I use the ACR phone call recorder app on ALL of my phone calls and I threatened her that I could let her hear the previous call. Suddenly the conversation changed, oh I'll see if he can come to the line right now. Please let me put you on a brief hold. Brief? I held for almost 40 minutes as I cleaned up and watched the news. Finally I hung up and tried to call back and suddenly the call would only go through to the prompts to enter your card number and code from the back, tell you a representative would come to the line and then it immediately disconnects.
As it was late, I decided to take a crack at it first thing this morning. Well, the same kept happening on their 1-800 number but I chose to go ahead and try calling their direct Utah number. It put me on hold for 10 minutes and then it disconnected at once. I called back repeatedly and each time thereafter, it started doing the same thing as the 1-800 number: disconnecting when being told that you will be connected to a representative and that your call is very important to us. Important... I did some research last night found this site with many complaints similar to mine starting back to August 2016.
I agree with the poster that said that we should start a class action lawsuit. I also have a Rushcard and it worked and also we were given our monies back plus an I'm sorry compensation of $500 for some of us. It is worth a try and if we do it, you have my participation 1000%. After this is all over with, I will no longer try prepaid cards again. I use them to control my spending but this is TWICE in two years someone has messed with my livelihood and finances like that... If you are thinking of using Serve. RUN!

I have had this card for 3 years and I load a minimum of $1,000 a month therefore the monthly fee is always waived. I state this because I assumed with that being the case I wouldn't get such a hard time trying to resolve my problem. Problem is I went to an ATM machine 8/22/17 to withdraw $200 but never received the cash. The receipt displayed $200 requested but $0.00 dispensed. However on my Serve card $200 was debited. I spoke with a CSR and was told 24-48 hours for a dispute form via email. After arguing the fact that it should never take up to 2 days to receive an email, I received it the following morning, 8/23/17. I uploaded copy of receipt and dispute form first thing 8am 8/23. Today, 8/24/17 I was told it usually takes 45 days to complete investigation which is bull. We live in a world where nothing takes that long, period!
Then I was told perhaps a credit after 9/5/17 while they continue to investigate. My entire payroll check is currently being direct deposited onto this Serve card so I am not understanding why the card can't be credited the money during the investigative part. $200 may seem like pennies to the average person but I am working single parent and having $200 tied up is a hardship for my family! Then when you call there is a language barrier. There is not one single rep for this company based in the United States & sometimes it is difficult for the customer & the rep. American Express Serve does not care about long standing customers or your business whatsoever. Further more the rep was basically dry and no compassion about the fact I am out of $200 in which I never received. I gave them ZERO stars because it doesn't take that long to resolve anything period!

They investigated & verified 8 separate transactions in 8 hours, THEY MUST HAVE AN AWESOME INVESTIGATION TEAM. I called to request on what violation did I commit and they could not provide that information. Apparently I must write to corporate to get an answer. My account was frozen for some reason (I assume they didn't like me using the ATM often rather than the card directly) but all I received was a generic email. I've have called them about 6 six times in the last month and never gotten a straight answer, just that it was "under review" and they would get back to me. My last conversation with them ended with much anger on my part and a vow to hire an attorney. I suggest you never use their service as they are likely to steal your balance at some point and never even tell you why. I lost about $1000 thanks to these slimy scammers, which I may or may not get back via the legal system and many months of wasted time.

Unfortunately, the quality of American Express customer service is getting worse day by day. Many years ago, the service was top notch. Now, the best way to get quality service is to either use the online account app, or the automatic computer system, when you call in. Speaking to an educated, properly trained representative is difficult. Many of them have strong language barriers, that creates miscommunication. Those who do speak clear English are often times curt and unhelpful. I am extremely disappointed in how poor American Express has become customer service wise. There was a time, about 15 years ago, (I've been a customer longer than that), where it was hard to get approved for an AMEX card. Thus, the level of service was high. Well, it seems that they have lowered their approval standards; and along with it, the quality of customer service.
I am tired of calling American Express customer service and being put on hold, because the rep is uneducated or not properly trained, to handle and resolve a question or issue that I have. I have been left on hold for several minutes, and no one comes back to the phone. So, I call back, and all I get his "Oh, we are so sorry for this one. How can I help you with this one..." Forget about asking for a supervisor. They will make every excuse in the book to not provide you with a supervisor. Or, they will pretend to put you on hold, then disconnect the call. It is very frustrating and I hope that by seeing all of these complaints on Consumer Affairs that American Express will get their act together. Because right now, it's a hot mess! I should be able to call AMEX day or night, and receive top notch customer service, better than what I will get from a robotic computer system!

Usually on my cell) I called customer service as soon as I found out. They were really nice at first. They said that my complaint didn't follow the user agreement and that my account had been cancelled.
Another 10 days later I receive a check for $19 which was what was left in my account. My sub account that belonged to my husband had $1,500 in it. It never came. On May 1, 2017, State Farm Fire Casualty sent out a Direct Deposit to my Amex Serve account, in the amnt. of $1000. In order to receive my D. Deposit, you must call the number on the back of the Amex card, to retrieve your D. Deposit acct. and routing numbers. I listened to the numbers 5 times total, to make sure I did not get them wrong. I was able to give State Farm the D.deposit info and everything seemed to be going fine. On the 3rd, I called Amex Serve and they say they do not see anything pending, to wait one more day. I called Amex the next day and they noticed my Acct number was different than what I had provided them (your D. Deposit acct number is not the same as your card number). Amex told me that one digit that was a 4, was supposed to be a 0, and that they had rejected my D. Deposit.
I immediately assumed that I had MADE a mistake when writing down my Acct and routing number. So I called the card back to retry and it was still giving me a 4 instead of a 0!! I didn't make a mistake. I then called and listened again, this time, I used another device to record my phone call to the automated part that gives the D. Deposit acct number. After I had my recording, I called customer service back and explained. They said someone from tech support would call me and they never heard of this happening. Tech support called me and did a 3 way call to listen but of course they fixed the account number in the automated system first. (That explains why they locked my Acct. for about a half an hour.)
When tech support insisted I had made the mistake by taking down the wrong number, she said she could not issue a investigation ticket. I said, "Please listen to something first," and I played the recording for her over the phone, of me calling and the system giving the incorrect acct. number for Direct Deposit. She was speechless for a moment and then said she would write a ticket. In the meantime, I was facing eviction, my phone bill needed paid and I was limited on money. This was the reason I decided to use the D. Deposit, instead of waiting for a mailed check. I needed it asap.
On the 4th, State Farm was made aware when I called to let them know what was going on. They advised me that the $1000 was showing PAID. Amex said they rejected the $1000. State Farm reissued payment to me on the 5th of May. It is now 1:22 a.m. May 9th, 2017, STILL NO MONEY DEPOSITED OR EVEN SHOWING PENDING TO MY AMEX SERVE CARD. I still had to find a way to pay my lot rent as I am a mobile home owner and have eviction scheduled Wednesday the 10th. I've been out of work due to health and injury. We are a family of 5 with 3 children. I pray I am able to borrow the money, if it is not on my card by noon, or we will be losing our home and I'm not able to pay my phone bill, which I need for communication, to deal with the severe issues this has caused me and my family.
If I do not have $1000 by noon today, May 9, 2017, I will definitely be taking the steps to file suit. Thank God I have that recording, of their system giving me the incorrect number. That was the smartest move I've made yet, when dealing with other people messing me up. We need to shut down Amex Serve, period. I WANT MY MONEY. IF I LOSE MY HOME, I WILL NOT GIVE UP UNTIL THEY ARE HELD RESPONSIBLE, WITH MY PROOF. I WILL MAKE SURE OF IT.

I never received my money back and they also lied about dispute policies. I had no problems with my account until I started receiving direct deposit to my card a year after opening my Serve account.
My recent experience was when I made a purchase with a merchant for $18 and American Express place the funds on hold for the merchant and removed the money from my account, three days later $15 was deducted from my account for that same merchant and when I contacted them about this issue the representative said that the $18 was placed back into my account because the funds had expired, but I was told multiple times before when I called about a problem before this one that funds remain on hold for 7 days until they are expired and released back into the account, so if the funds were placed on hold for the merchant already then why is it that my account was charged again and deducted for $15, which is less than the amount I was charged for by the merchant?
American Express Serve could not prove to me that the funds for $18 was placed back into my account and they also could not show proof where the other funds went or what happened to them, I’m pissed off because money continuously gets stolen out of my account that I work hard for and they just rip me off two weeks in a row.

I have used the Serve card religiously for online purchases for the last 4 years. So, last week, my card was compromised. I received an email that my email address had been changed. I immediately called and customer service was not very helpful. The gentleman spoke to me like he was reading from a script. He put me on hold, and came back to tell me that he called my phone number on file and left a code on my voicemail. He needed that code to verify that I was who I said I was. Problem with that was I had changed my phone number since opening the account and had not updated the number. They had no other way of account security. What if the hackers had changed my phone number too???
Long story short, I was able to get in touch with the person who has my old number and got the code I needed, and was able to get my account locked down and back under my control... or so I thought. The hackers made off with $1,963.00. I was told I would have to wait 10 business days while they conducted their investigation. Kudos to Amex for not taking that long. I received my money back in less than a week.
Now, fast forward to this week. I immediately pulled out $750 on Tuesday, then another $750 on Wednesday. I have had my Serve card for a few years now, and up until last year, I had zero problems. I was one of their happy customers, and they never had to hear from me. Since last year, however, Amex has declined three of my transactions and held the amount hostage. Each time, the funds I tried to pay to the merchants were placed on hold for 8 full days. The first time this happened, I tried to make a payment to a hotel where I was staying. The transaction failed, even though the money was available. Subsequent attempts also failed, because Amex preauthorized the amount to be taken by the hotel.
I called Amex to ask them to release the hold so that I could make the payment to the hotel. They told me they couldn't release the funds, and that I would have to wait for the hold to lift on its own. The hotel manager advised me that because the transaction declined on their end, they had absolutely no way to even try to collect the money I had tried to give them. She and I both did a conference call with Amex's customer service, only to be told the same thing. Absolutely no help was given. I would have been out on the streets that night if I hadn't been able to borrow money from my mother to pay the hotel. I should have learned my lesson about the Serve card right then and there, but I brushed it off as a fluke. This kind of thing had never happened before.
The second incident occurred two weeks ago, when I placed an order with Amazon. The transaction appeared to have been successful, until it came time for Amazon to ship my items. Amazon doesn't collect payment until they ship the items, so the money sat on hold for them till then. Amex once again would not release the funds to Amazon. I called Amazon, and of course, there was nothing they could do on their end. All they had was a hard decline error.
So I called Amex several times and talked to several different representatives (who are probably just robots programmed to regurgitate policies at people in distress.) Same story. "Amazon has 8 days to get this money, and if they don't pick it up, the hold will be released." "I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue, but there is nothing we can do." Excuse me, Amex? SOMEONE is in possession and control of my money, and unfortunately it's not me. I thought it was you.
The third occurrence was today. Amex released my funds on March 5th. I tried again that same day to pay for my Amazon order, and once again, it looked like it went through. NOPE! I got an email today from Amazon, telling me that my payment declined. I have been watching this order obsessively and half-expecting this to happen again, while also hoping I'd be wrong. I watched $327.55 of my money sit on hold with Amex for 3 days. It's still sitting on hold. I'm so done. I'm not even going to call customer support this time. I fortunately had funds available on a different card, so I paid Amazon, and they received their money immediately.
I don't know how Amex makes money off prepaid customers, but I know they have to be profiting somehow from my usage of their services. Therefore, I am discontinuing my usage of their services. Once Amex releases my money, I'm racing to an ATM to yank out my cash, and then I'm cutting up my Serve card. I would advise anyone considering opening a Serve account to consider alternatives like Greendot.

For my son's birthday he wanted more than anything a new BMX bike frame. Since I was getting my taxes back I told him I would do this for him for his birthday. We go on the bike site, put in all of the information using the AMEX card, the website says "technical error try again." We try again 2 more times getting the same error message. Not realizing that AMEX is taking and holding the funds for these transactions that are not completing!! I call them and the bike company immediately following seeing the funds on hold, the people from AMEX told me "The transaction did not complete. Your money will be released within the hour."
Here I am 9 days later with $1400 still on hold. I have called AMEX numerous times, they keep telling me they have not received notice from the bike shop's bank saying they declined the purchases, however, the bike shop sent me the declined notices for all 3 error messages. So how do I have this notice yet AMEX does not? In the meantime, my car insurance has lapsed, my rent is late and we have no food in our house!! All because I wanted to do something nice for my son for his birthday. I am so screwed financially because of this mess, I don't see a way out nor can I give my son this gift that he so badly wanted. I was told by 3 people and a supervisor that I would have my money within 8 days. I'm on day 9 and still nothing.
I have contacted my attorney. We have to wait the full 8 days before I can file my complaint, so tomorrow if my money is not in my acct, I will be following through with my lawsuit against AMEX! They cannot hold your money without just cause, oh and 2 of the times we tried to make our purchase we used the wrong security code. So tell me again, how can you hold money where one, wrong security codes, two no purchase was made and three you received notice from the other bank showing declined all 3 times. This isn't even the first issue I have had with this card. First the card wasn't working at all, then if we went to a restaurant and spent $30 they held $60. I went back to the restaurant flipping on them for overcharging me. They called their cc company who told us on speaker phone AMEX is known for doing this. Buying gas instead of only holding $1 or the amount spent i.e. $20 they hold $40.
I will never again have my taxes filed by a company, only did this to try to get the early loan since I lost my job and really needed the money. So I in the end paid $450 to have chest pains from the stress, not able to give my son the one thing he desperately wanted for his birthday, to losing my car insurance being late on my rent and other bills. I've done my own taxes for years, just needed a little extra help this year and ended up in more of a bind than I can handle. As well as my broken hearted child. I will never use AMEX again and will make sure everyone reads these reviews before they do too! I can't wait to talk to my Atty tomorrow!

Back in January, my husband and I were pre-approved for a Jackson Hewitt Refund Advance. This was loaded onto an American Express Serve temporary card, and we were advised to sign up for a permanent card as soon as possible. I did so that day, using the Android Serve app, and they sure informed us that we'd be receiving a permanent card within 7-10 business days.
After two weeks, we still hadn't received the permanent card, so we called Serve's wonderfully outsourced customer service number. They told us that they'd indeed mailed a card, but they'd mail another one that day. We specifically asked if this would affect our full income tax refund, and the representative assures us that we would have no problems, that the unreceived card would be a non-issue. We did get a card in the mail, but didn't immediately activate it because of the IRS delays on tax refunds involving schedule EIC.
On Tuesday, February 21, he received a text message alert informing us that our federal income tax refund had been deposited into our account. I had signed up for text alerts when I'd originally applied for the permanent card back in December, so we got the kids out of school and headed to Walmart, in a joyful mood while shopping for much-needed kids' clothes. At the register, my husband's temporary card was declined. Thinking that it had been placed upon the permanent card, I immediately activated and registered it. That card was declined. Walmart suspended our transaction while I called Amex Serve's customer service line. In the meantime, I checked the mobile app I'd had on my phone. It gave me the account balance I'd been expecting.
The representative refused to talk to me at first, since I'm only the legal wife of the card holder. Okay, fine, my husband gets on the phone and verified his security questions. The representative asked for the card number... and it didn't match the card that had our entire tax check on it. They had loaded our money, almost six thousand dollars, onto a card we had never received. Now, to some that may not be a lot of money. To us, it represents a car, children's clothes, and perhaps a few small luxuries. $6000 is a third of my husband's annual income.
Needless to say, we were upset. They told us that we'd get nothing today, that they'd issue a new card within the famous 7-10 business days. We demanded to speak to a supervisor. This took twenty more minutes on hold, while my husband, myself, and our four children sat at Walmart, the kids wondering what was going on and why weren't they getting the clothes and shoes. The supervisor seemed sympathetic at first. She finally said that they would do twelve separate Western Union transactions to us so that we could have access to a majority of our money. She put us on hold while she went to get approval.
At that point, someone who said they were a manager came on the line, stating that that was impossible. They are limited to a SINGLE Western Union transaction per account lifetime. We had been on the phone for almost two hours at this time, all of it spent at Walmart with four kids. We accepted the Western Union, And he stated it could take 48 hours to go through. I exploded. A money transfer takes ten minutes, I argued, and if it were approved it needed to be sent NOW, not in two days. They were holding our tax refund hostage and owed us that much. Surprisingly, he put us on hold and returned with an MCTN, assuring us that our replacement card would arrive within 7-10 business days (I'd asked for, and been denied, 8 am overnight option). We picked up the money and for the kids' items.
On Friday, February 24, I was browsing the mobile app. There was an option to transfer money between Serve accounts using the PIN. I had the PIN for the temporary card, which apparently transferred over to the lost card, so I brought the idea up to my husband. We decided to call Customer Service before doing anything to ensure we wouldn't be wasting our time. After 20 minutes on hold and another lengthy explanation of our issue, we asked: could we purchase a new Serve card that day and transfer money from the account with our money on it to the purchased card. He said we could as long as the email address and account holder's name were different.
We rushed to Walgreens and bought a Serve card. I applied for a permanent card using my name and e-mail address, then initiated the Send Money transaction. I received a confirmation email, but when we tried to use the Accept button, it was grayed out, unusable. Cue another call to this oh-so-excellent Customer Service line. After the now-expected 20 min hold, we explained the situation yet again, since they apparently don't make notes of customer contacts (or they don't read them, or a combination of the above). They said that you can't use the Send/Request Money features on a temporary card; we had to wait (You guessed it!) 7-10 business days for MY permanent card to arrive!
We melted down at this point. After escalating to yet another manager, he said that he was going to get an exception approved for a $2,500 Western Union transfer for us because it WAS Amex Serve's fault this had happened in the first place. He did warn us that it could take up to 48 hours, but his demeanor suggested that approval was all but guaranteed. With this in mind, we agreed to wait, as he said he would call my husband back as soon as he got word, and if he didn't, my husband was to call Customer Service back the next afternoon. No call occurred.
So today, Saturday, February 25th, we borrowed money to take our kids to the yearly circus (it's been a tradition for five years). After my husband got off work, he called Customer Service. A supervisor there told him that he'd been approved for another $300 transfer, but she had no MCTN. They would call back with that information. My husband asked that they try and do so before 4 pm (this was at 1 pm), as we were taking the kids to the circus and they look forward to this every year.
4 pm... No phone call, no movement in the account. We call yet again. A representative tells us that it will take up to TEN DAYS for this money transfer (that was initially asked for because of our having to wait 7-10 business days for the replacement card...) but she seemed very unsure of the entire situation (that we had to explain again). She then revealed that NO REPLACEMENT CARD HAD BEEN MAILED. So, we asked for a supervisor. We spent forty minutes on hold, arriving at the circus, trying to budget food and admission with the money we had had to borrow from my husband's mother for this once yearly outing. A kind woman handed us a few discount coupons, making our financial situation a tad better but we were still unable to buy any food, drink, or souvenirs from the circus... We had to save what was left for dinner and gas.
Just before the circus started a supervisor got on the line. I wasn't present for the conversation because I'd taken my children into the building. I saved a seat for my husband and tried to enjoy the show, despite my kids' desire for what every other family seemed to have (drinks, light up toys, etc, all things I could have gotten had Amex not screwed up my tax refund). Thirty minutes into the show, my husband returned. He told me that they had suddenly referred him to the Fraud Department, who had now locked our account until he returned a signed affidavit (which would take... guess how long! to arrive). They would not send any transfer, any replacement card until this was done, despite no movement on the card, no transactions whatsoever, no disputes filed except for us wanting access to the federal tax refund that had been deposited on the 21st.
We had to get a car on extremely short notice with extremely unfavorable terms right before our refund came in so that my husband could get to work (a 30 mi trip one way). Our tax refund was to pay for this car and get us out of the outrageous $200/wk payment plan we had to agree to. Additionally, we had to replace our washer and dryer in January, so we went to a rent to own store and got a set, telling them we intended to use the early payoff option that reduces the price by a lot. We have an extended family of ten, so we required a more expensive washer/dryer set simply because of efficiency and workmanship.
Amex Serve's actions during this are screwing ALL of this up. It's causing considerable stress upon myself and my husband, not to mention my kids overhearing our numerous phone calls to their outsourced customer service center. They all say they're sorry, that they apologize for the inconvenience, yet none of them actually do anything to rectify this issue they caused. Promises to call us back don't get kept. We're told different things by different representatives. Their Twitter service is a joke; they told me to call after I told them that calling did me no good. I'm going to lose the car. I might lose my W/D set.
None of this is our fault and they seem adamant about denying us access to what is rightfully ours. Tomorrow (...today, it's almost 1 am on Sunday, Feb 26th) I am going to call Jackson Hewitt for their opinion. Then I am going to call Serve and attempt to completely close out my account, demanding a paper check be mailed... Bet it'll take 7-10 business days if they allow it at all. I can't see them as being able to deny the closure. Surely, they can't force me to be a customer?Stay away from American Express Serve if you like having access to your money.

Five days later I called back and was told that the original rep was wrong and had no business telling me this. They said that the first check deposited can take 10 business days to clear. I was told it is in the fine print after you deposit a check. Had I known it would take 10 BUSINESS days to clear I would never have deposited it on the card. Amex needs to make their fine print available prior to submitting checks. They need to state this in the terms in conditions on their website. When you search their website this is nowhere to be found. It isn't helpful to see after I've already deposited the check. It also amazes me that half the reps are giving incorrect information to their customers with no desire to fix their mistakes or misinformation.

I called American Express Serve and was notified that they didn't send my card until my taxes came in and I would have to wait an additional 7 to 10 days. This sounded intentional. On January 25, 2017, I went to my local Walmart store to withdraw some cash. Instead of getting the amount I requested, I got a receipt. The receipt shows an "error" message and also shows that no money was dispensed. Made a dispute with American Express Serve. Phone call #1, was telling me to expect an email showing my how to go about making my dispute. Another phone call was made on January 30, 2017 to follow up on the email. The rep tells me that an email was sent. When I told him I never got it, he said that they weren't allowed to send out another email because of security reasons and to call back on February 7th. Called again on February 3rd regarding another situation and wanted to check on the email that I still had not received regarding my dispute. This particular rep told me, that they are indeed allowed to send another email out and it would take 24-48 hours before I received it.
3 days later, no email in sight. Called them again on February 6 and this rep. told me everything that I needed to do in order to make my dispute and the fax #. Got to work and faxed my dispute. A few hours later, I get an email saying that my dispute was denied because the money was dispensed. The receipt that I provided them showed that no money was dispensed at all. Every single rep that I spoke with told me verbatim, "we'll temporarily will give you the money back until we're done with our investigation". I find it odd that you conclude a dispute within a few hours when I still haven't received an email with instructions on how to proceed with my dispute.
When I called the ATM company, Pam from Customer Care stated, "American Express would have to contact them in order for someone to go to that particular ATM and get the transcript to see what happened". She even told me that the transaction was an EFT. I'm very disappointed with American Express Serve. Although it's about the $300.00 that I never received, it's also about the principle. I sent letters and the receipt showing proof and they won't budge.

Yes, my tax refund posted early. But watch out!! I spent 10 minutes on hold & then another 15 asking very specific questions about how I withdraw those funds. The rep told me to link my Serve to my checking and after transferring the funds that way, that definitively YES the funds would transfer immediately. As a backup option and for future use, he also told me to take my card to any Walmart and for up to $9 I could withdraw up to $5000. NOPE!!! I linked my checking and it told me to wait 4-5 business days just to verify the test deposit and another 4-5 business days for each transfer. So I drove 20 minutes to Walmart to withdraw the funds that way and they didn't know what I was talking about!! They swiped my card with $3000 on it and the message said the card is not eligible for cash!!
20 minutes later a different rep told me that the first rep was wrong; that I need to get an online code first and to - get this - call AMEX cust support while at Walmart so they can talk to them. (After holding for how long?) They are holding my money hostage. They have wasted hours of my time. And I am accumulating late fees on the payments I need to have made with the funds they are refusing to release. This is 2017!! There is NO excuse for this level of incompetence. A Couple days past, I call again, this time I speak to a Supervisor. The Disputed transaction is for (Smokeproductions) not for (Cnyceproductions). Which I called and stated. But I recently learned from their employees that on their end it only says “PayPal” so they unknowingly just chose a $100 transaction and disputed it.
I call right back at 3:06 and calling back to say "Hey. Wrong transaction." I have called on multiple occasions. I Called on Feb. 1st to cancel the dispute, finally, they said it was canceled. Then Friday February 3rd I get an email stating that my account is suspended. And I cannot touch my money for 7 to 10 business days. I was able to complete all steps until the end when I received an error stating I needed to submit a copy of the voided check, which I already did and then the error said, "Sorry for the inconvenience but you will need to call." The check had already been approved and the picture of the voided check was confirmed by the program. This happened twice.
Also, when it was declined, the amount was 35.00 that was declined, not 40.00 which was the amount of the check. What happened to the 5.00? They kept it for services that were not received. I gave the check back to the person who wrote me the check and was not able to resubmit the check back for a second time. When brought to their attention of the 5.00 they changed the subject. They are ripping people off for this fee and will not close the account. You either have to go online and wait 7-10 days after receiving this check to cancel or call them. I expected bad service, but for substantially less money ($95/year) - I WAS WRONG! Representatives are well trained to APOLOGIZE PROFUSELY! Waste of your time is beyond your imagination waiting to be switched between different "teams" - worthless.
AMEX is still a problem with being accepted overseas. Why pay annual fees? For what? There are plenty of cards with no annual fees and 6.6% interest. I got one! It is a beauty. I have been an AMEX cardholder for years and have excellent credit and until recently have had nothing for praise and respect for the brand. So rather than relate the recent very bad customer service I have received like being ignored and lied to I would like to offer you a solution that I have used in similar situations that actually works. Companies like Bank of America and AT&T.
All states have a small claims court and process. You can find out the process for your state by doing a search online. The process is simple and not expensive. In the state I am familiar with you can file for up to $5000 (and I do suggest you go for the max and let the Judge decide the award). You simply fill out a document and describe why you think that AMEX owes you money and costs (and possibly damages). It costs a small amount of money to file it with your local court ($35 or so) and then you send it via registered mail to the company registrar that you can also find online (this is where they must receive this sort of document). Again in the state that I know best they cannot be represented by a lawyer (in some states they can be) but in any case you DO NOT need a lawyer.
You simply are given a chance to present your case and evidence to the Judge and he/she will make a decision on the case. Make sure that you are factual and have documentation of your claim/s! And definitely be honest with the Judge in your answers. However, you may not even have to go to court as you very likely will get a call from an Attorney representing them offering to settle the case. If you can get a fair and reasonable settlement then by all means do it. HOWEVER I usually want to take it to court so that the verdict is on the record for anyone to see how you were treated by the company. The small claims system is a great leveler of the playing field and certainly get their attention! Letters to the CEO and others just do not get any attention or respect sadly. I hope that this is helpful and will give you a way to get your message to the company in a positive way.

I got a gift card from my daughter Serve/ American Express. After several months I wanted to use the credit card for the first time but the balance was "0". I was not aware of the monthly charge of $5.95. I called to find out why do they charge such amount. Their response was due to "maintenance on the account". I find it disgusting the way they rob without any logical explanation.

First off I'd like to say I'd give them a zero star rating if I could. Bought a ticket from Greyhound for 147 dollars and person that was going to come visit me had an emergency and couldn't come and let me know just hours after I paid for ticket online. Called Greyhound and explained situation and guy was rude but eventually agreed to refund my money and hung up on me so no further documentation or emails followed. Couple weeks later went looking for my money on serve card and it's nowhere on there so filed dispute and it's been two months. I'm on second dispute and they keep telling me they need additional documentation which I don't have so guess Greyhound wins since they need the money much more than I do. Tried reaching dispute Department and they won't let you speak to them. Crappy service from a card carrying American Express on it. Get a different card. Take my advice.

I have had SERVE for over 2 years. I use it to avoid using my bank/credit cards to avoid the possibility of them getting compromised. I had two charges show up on the card and I immediately called AMEX regarding the charges. I live in Miami and the charges were in California. I was told that they would immediately replace the card, and that I would need to call back once the charges had posted to the account since they were in a HOLD.
I called back two days later and each time I put in my card number, the system would reset and ask that I call back later. After several attempts, I was able to get someone on the phone and explained the situation. I was then informed that the quickest way to resolve the situation was to contact the merchants where the card was used in California and ask them for a refund. When I said that did not make sense, they placed me on hold and never returned to the phone. I have made several attempts at contacting them but cannot get through their system. It is a minuscule amount ($100) but it is the principle behind it. After reading some of the other postings here, it seems that is their standard practice.

Wanted to go to a prepaid card because I don't like using my bank card. Even had my employer set up direct deposit on it to get paid a few days earlier. Everything had been going great for months. Was able to go to atms, withdraw money out and go on about my day. Last Wed Dec 8th I tried to withdraw 620.00 dollars out and nothing comes out. Says transaction was cancelled and machine is currently out of order so I am like ok, go to a ATM down the street try and pull money out.
They say I have exceeded my limit so I am like 600 plus may be too much so I tried again with 400 and got the same message. So I said "let me see what's going on"...logged into my account and lo and behold it was a -620.00 out my account. So I go back to the first ATM and the ATM machine is not out of order anymore so I am like WTF is going on. Call the Serve card, told them what happen, they tell me to go into the bank in the morning and I filed a dispute on the phone that night.
They sent me a email with more information they needed so I filled that out the next morning and fax it over. Went into the bank after that and told them what happen and they tell me my bank who the card with have to file a claim & I am like "it's your damn ATM you have cameras you can't count the damn machine or view the cameras. This ridiculous. I went in 3 hours late to hear this. So I call the Serve card again and told them what just happen and they reassured me that it will be handle. Here it is Dec 12, done call 7 times since then and all they can tell me is the 21st is when the people will email with something or with a provision credit until they finish investigating. I SAID I WANT MY DAMN 620.00 not a provisional credit.
I asked them why is it no direct number to the people investigating my matter and why haven't they been in touch with me or speak to me. I shouldn't have to wait all this time to get my money back to me or for you all to investigate and I should have a direct number to those people. I shouldn't have to wait till 21st. So me I want to Google dispute with Serve and why I do that I hear about people accounts being closed, them losing money and that's just pisses me off more so I call them back and I tell them if I don't get my 620.00 I am getting a lawyer and I am suing them and that bank machine who didn't disburse my cash because I told the reps I read the reviews and all.
Haven't help anyone fix their issue from what I am reading and I am now going thru that. So to anyone who wants to get a prepaid card just to be more safer please don't just use your bank you bank with because these prepaid people seem to be just ripping hard working people off and we can't do anything about it. AMERICAN EXPRESS IS A BRAND NAME & they should read this reviews and take care of their people even if they let a sister company use their name. They should have. Their business live by the same standards. American Express do. It's no damn reason people should be going thru this non sense and their issues not being resolved and people accounts just being closed.
It's enough people with complaints that this company should be investigated because it's ridiculous. But DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT BECAUSE IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU and you don't want to experience what others are going thru or is going thru right now. We entrust these people with our money and if something bad happens we should have direct contact with a person who is handling the case and we should be spoken or given updates daily and they shouldn't be able to just hold off till they feel it's right and then send you a email with the conclusion. I wish I had read these reviews before I went with this card because I would have never sign up for it. PLEASE BEWARE PEOPLE BECAUSE MY ISSUES HASN'T BEEN RESOLVED. JUST THE BS RUNAROUNDS IS A SLAP IN THE FACE.

Yes, they have free loading and yes, POS purchases are free but cash back isn't allowed so that they can charge you an outrageous $2.50 plus the ATM you are using charges you. So, you're paying about $4.00 - $4.50 every time you need cash. They are supposed to have a Free ATM network, but it's pretty non-existent and if you are lucky enough to find one, it doesn't work. Your money also isn't protected from fraudulent merchants. I placed an order and was promised a refund from the merchant. After a few days I contacted AMEX and they told me to reach out to merchant again, they probably forgot and to check again in a week. I checked back a week later and was told they would continue with dispute but to call back in a month. A month later, they denied my dispute saying that since Pizza Hut didn't return to pick up incorrect order, I am responsible and they refused to give my money back. Later that day I looked on my account and noticed that the money was taken out my account the first 3x I tried and didn't dispense the money. So I called Amex customer service to put in the dispute. It was two days later that I went looking for it and realized it was gone. I checked my account and there was hundreds of dollars' worth of transactions that I did not make. I immediately contacted AES and reported this. They said a "complete investigation" would be done, however in less than 24 hours I got two emails; one stating that the charges were valid, the other that my account was closed due to a violation of their terms and conditions. Panicking, I called into their HORRIBLE customer service (overseas) and was told there was no one I could speak with and nothing more I could do. After begging the rep and supervisor for ANY type of suggestion they provided me an address to write to.
I wrote a letter detailing the situation and itemizing the charges that I did not make. About a month later I received a form letter telling me that "this may not be the answer I was looking for" but that there was nothing they could do. I also received a check for $2.50! This happened in September and I am coming to terms with the fact that someone has stolen from me and AES is %100 ok with that. When I asked for specific information pertaining to the activity none was provided. This company is not an FDIC insured bank, they are a holding company that is able to steal consumers' money and get away with it because the consumers deposits are not insured or protected.
Please beware of this scam. Just know that once you make the deposit you will never be able to spend it because it will never post to your account. After ten days I called Customer Service - on a daily basis - as the Card never arrived. I was told: 1) That their Card Printing System was down in September, which affected Card Printing, 2) That their Card Printing System was down in October, which affected Card Printing, 3) That the Post Office had not verified my Street Address, 4) That Credit Cards are only delivered on Thursday, for Security Reasons, and 5) That seven to days is just an estimate, and that it could take six weeks.
Sadly, because the Customer Service Department is NOT in the U.S., there is no way for the Call Center to communicate with the Card Center, so there is no way of knowing if the Replacement Card Order was actually processed, if the Card Center actually made the new Card, or if the Replacement Card was actually sent. Customer Service - even Supervisors - have no answers, no suggestions, and no way to resolve the issue. Given the vast number of Complaints I've seen, I am surprised Am Ex would even continue their relationship. Truly poor.

I made a dispute about three airline tickets purchased with my Serve account, they claim they investigated the purchase and found they were valid and authorized. I DID NOT MAKE THOSE PURCHASES. They did ask if the card was lost or stolen, and I said "no, it wasn't". To add insult to injury, they also locked the account and said it would be unlikely for them to approve another account. Instead of explaining exactly why the account was locked, they just threw an error code at me from their onerous online agreement. It wasn't until I talked to someone on the phone that they hinted that the lock was because of the dispute.
In other words, you complained too many times, so get out. They are mailing me a check for what was left but I'm out $700 for no reason at all. I stated that my information must have been hacked and intercepted somehow and I gave them valid reasons why I wouldn't even bother buying any airline tickets now (heel injury, documented by my podiatrist) and I said my account had obviously been hacked, but they wouldn't hear of it. They mentioned some nonsense that the fraudulent transactions were 'manually entered' so it could not have been anyone else but me.
When I asked, "Where did those tickets go?" they just gave me an address to write to, which is extremely insulting in this day and age of email. This is the first and obviously last time I will ever use American Express Serve. They advertise Fraud Protection on their ads and web page but in my opinion this protection is very poor. Their fraud department is likely overworked, as I did have one dispute before this and it was processed correctly. It was easier just to cut me off and let me go.
I have to admit their TV commercials were cutesy and portrayed a friendly company willing to stand behind you. In reality they are just greedy nimrods who just want to hold your money and give you minimum effort for benefits. If you ever come across some extra money, or get a nice refund somewhere along the line, put it in a REAL bank that has a REAL fraud department. As I said I attempted to withdraw $200.00 from the ATM and the ATM only dispensed me $100.00. Since then I have been going round and round with American Express ever since. I filed a dispute with them as they instructed me to do. They gave me a provisional $100.00 while they investigated the matter. Needless to say they closed my cases on June 10, 2016 in favor of them. On June 13, 2016 the ATM company Allpoint sent documentation that I was shorted at the ATM on April 29, 2016. American Express then took back the provisional $100.00 which left my card - $100.00. Came the time for my monthly check to be deposited I was short and had to live without going to the grocery store for the month.
Then they turned around when I told them that I was calling the Attorney General's office on them. They gave me another provisional $100.00, and now they are taking it back again. Because they are still trying to say that I received the whole $200.00. Now I want them to make this make sense to me. I'm on a fixed income why would I lied about something like that when I know that will take the money back.
I am no longer going to use the card anymore. I went and got my checking account back with PNC because I can't afford or nor do I wish to live without my money again while they try to get it together. I am still filing the complaint with the Attorney General's office, because I don't think anyone should have to go thru this just to get their own money back. And I am going to tell anyone I cannot to deal with the VIP One Card or American Express. Life is too short to be dealing with things like that. So I cancelled the card and ordered a new one. Later I go online to the Serve website and find out there was an option called RIA in which my funds could have been transferred to any Walmart in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. However, after personally contacting the companies that were in question, I was told that someone with a different name and shipping address (which is another state) made the purchase.
The last time I checked, I did not need to purchase something under another person's name and mail to a address that I have no idea about. In addition, why didn't American Express verify the name and the address on the acct before clearing the purchase? And because of their half ** investigation my money is now being held in a suspended acct. I cannot tell you how livid I am right now. I call the customer service number for the Serve Card. A guy states "Oh we are sorry. We provided the wrong direct deposit number. Here is the new one." So now I'm out of money for another two weeks. I am getting a lawyer and suing this company for their wrongdoing. Who know whose account my direct deposit went to. DO NOT GET THE CARD!!!

I recently had 2 unauthorized charges from the same merchant and, when I called to make a fraud claim, they accepted 1 but denied the other making my account negative. I have spent a month trying to sort this out, going through supervisor after supervisor, trying to explain that both charges were under the exact same fraudulent circumstances and the other charge needs to be credited. For a month, I have been told that someone in the "claims department" will email me and for a month I have been ignored. I have family who worked in the real credit card fraud industry and I know exactly how things are supposed to work. Serve by American Express is failing miserably in every aspect of fraud resolution and even customer service.
I have read the other reviews and I sincerely wish I could reply to them because what everyone going through this needs to know is that the government organization you need to contact is the OCC. They regulate all financial institutions and can actually bring sanctions against companies who violate their rules and regulations. The OCC has an online complaint form that you can fill out and submit and they will contact the company on your behalf to help work toward a satisfactory resolution. Generally, just hearing the word "OCC" is enough to scare the living daylights out of people and might just kick them into high gear. I hope this information helps and that everyone here, or who has ever been screwed out of money by Serve, gets their money back.

I HATE THIS CARD!!! On Friday, April 15, 2016 I was expecting part of my payroll deposit to be on my card, $200. Payday has come and went, and still no money. I go to my HR department, and they confirmed for me that the deposit was sent and received successfully. They even gave a trace number. Now SERVE can't find my deposit, and they say they never received it!!! I'm PISSED!! This is my hard earned money that I have confirmed on numerous occasions, about the routing number and account number, and that it was sent SUCCESSFULLY.
Please don't deposit any of your hard earned money onto this card!!! If you want to do a cash load at a 7-Eleven, that's fine. But don't bother with trying to do an ACH deposit. SMH... how can they not have my money?? I read the reviews, and I went ahead and gave them a chance anyway. NEVER AGAIN! I'm sticking with cards that are actually tied to a physical bank.

My Serve card was hacked and when I contacted American Express they said they would have the money back within one to two days and someone would call me. Well no one ever called me and I never received the money. They just suspended my privileges and locked the card. When I called to ask why they said they had no information and all I could do was go to the police and file a report. I will never recommend them to anyone. They are pathetic and the customer service is ridiculous. This happened on 3-30-2016.

My card was suddenly froze in January 2016 with no notice, no email, nothing. When I called and asked them why they said "upgrades". I loaded over 100 on the card that same day at local retail store. The clerk told me the load went through. It is now March 2016, and I have yet to see the load posted on my account. American Express blames the retailer. They gave me a provisional credit - then took it back. Questions: 1. Why would they freeze a good, active account without any notification whatsoever? 2. Why would they still allow a retailer to accept loads if their system was down?

I have called and called to discuss what is going on with my or refund that Jackson Hewitt put on this American Express Serve card. For one the card came to me already activated. Strange I thought. And I checked my balance to see thousands of dollars gone. So I've called 8554316040 hundreds of times. Mind you this is all located in the Philippines. I've been hung up on, no credits back to my account and yesterday 3/1 tried to use my card and it's LOCKED! REALLY. This is bs, a total fraud. What's worse is that I was trying to pay my phone bill and I can't even do that. So out of the thousands of dollars stolen I can't even get the last 130 left out of all my money. What can I do? I am sick to my stomach from this.

Highly pissed off at American Express Serve!!! On about Feb 5, 2016 I had about $2500 dollars on this card and was saving it for a new car. The next week by Friday Feb 12, 2016 I had neg $190! I was like what the hell happen? I called American express serve and they told me a supervisor would call me back within 24 to 48 hours, that never happen? I then fill out an affidavit for a fraudulent activity, then 6 days later my account was locked then permanently closed. When ask why? They answered I violated a cause 15, which when I read that code it didn't say anything I did wrong. Now that my money is missing and my card is lock, I don't have access to my account and they refuse to answers me. WHY DID Y'ALL CLOSED MY ACCOUNT AND WHERE IS MY MONEY? Y'all allowed someone to steal my money!!!

Be careful with this card. I had a Serve account for about 3 years. On Thursday, 11/12 I received 2 emails from Amex Serve telling me that my account had been locked due to possible fraud. I called as soon as I saw the emails, about 7:00pm. Since then I have called 10 times a combination of customer service and fraud protection. I cannot speak to a supervisor. A supervisor was supposed to call within 48 hours. To date (Sunday night, 11/15) no one has called. No one can tell me why it was closed. I have no idea if someone used my card fraudulently. I can't access my account. I have no idea if or when I am getting my money back (there was about $900 on the card). I have tweeted. I have called the executive offices. No one is willing to help.

I was a new immigrant. When I arrived in the United States after applying Serve card, asked me to provide SSN CARD and American ID card, driver's license or a passport issued by the United States. Because I am a new immigrant, Only have my SSN CARD, nothing else. I just submitted my immigrant visa page, and send my card through. After that there is no reason to close my card, send me EMAIL say code 15d. After I call in to Account Protection Services, they say no, told I can not reapply for the card, no one can appeal. Grumpy people who work there, simply can not understand and to help customers.

My account was closed and I was not even given notice, nor an explanation on why. Funds are still available in my account and American Express will not give me my money when I requested. They told me they will mail my funds which will take up to 5-10 days, and said if I had any questions to write a letter to one of their departments in Utah. All of my funds are in my account and I happen to be out of town. I have no money for food, hotel, and gas. I can't even get home to get the check they send.

Here is details of my complaint. I have had a SERVE by american express prepaid debit card for about 9 months. I have loaded several thousands of dollars and even received my Tax return on this card. As of 5/20/2014, Serve has blocked my account because they said I was making too many purchases and returns. I had over $8,000 on my card and the 3 sub accounts linked to this card. Today I got a call from the serve card telling me that I am not going to get any of my money back that is on these cards and they are sending all the money back to the merchants. First of all they have NO right whatsoever to take my money. I made these purchases and have receipts for each and every one of these purchases, and if I want to return something back to the store I have every right to. Serve has NO right to block my card and keep $8,000 of my money including my tax return.
They are now saying they are going to return all my refunds to the original merchants!!!!!!!!!!!! First off these merchants refunded me on my returns in my SERVE card. If SERVE sends the money back to the merchants (many of them online stores) I will never get my money, as all merchants policy is they can only refund the customer back to their original payment method! I need you to please help me. This is over $8,000 and I have receipts for all these purchases and returns and SERVE OWES ME MY MONEY BACK. MY SERVE ACCOUNT NUMBER IS **.
