The warranty that was purchased to cover my television was not useful at all. They stated that an electrical issue with my television is considered physical damage. How when we had not even touched the TV was gone out of town and came back and the tv did not work. So let's just say don't waste your money on these warranty because they abuse their consideration on what they. Very POOR CUSTOMER CARE. THEY TREAT YOU HAS A NOBODY AND THE MONEY YOU SPENT WAS WORTHLESS.

I was very pleased with my experience. It was my first time contacting SquareTrade or having any issues with my FitBit product. My issue was immediately addressed that evening and within the next week my wristband was replaced. My insurance covered it.

I have insurance policy from SquareTrade for a phone stand I bought off Amazon. It broke and I ended up having to buy a new one. When I filed a claim, I was dealing with someone who was pretty easygoing, so it went smoothly. Everyone handled it well. However, it wasn’t really communicated well. When I receive a package and I buy something through SquareTrade, they should send a sheet that shows that you have a protection plan on it. It's like when you buy something from the store, you get a receipt that says that you paid for this two-year warranty or an extended one. Nevertheless, overall, I'd recommend it to a friend. It worked out well.

I sent the tablet for repairs because the battery would not stay charged for but 12-15 minutes of use. The screen would go black in the middle of what I was doing and I had to reboot it and start all over. The screen was cracked also. When l got it back the screen was all that was fixed. The battery still goes from 100% to 25% in 12-15 minutes. The screen still goes blank and l have to reboot it and start all over. I have bought my last SquareTrade warranty on any items. Service is pitiful.

I bought an extended warranty thru Sam’s when I bought a tv. The tv was less than a year old and I was having issues. I spoke to, I believe was Mason and he was great. He let me know that if the manufacturer would not stand behind the warranty they would. It was amazing to have someone understand your frustration with a new product and was willing to do whatever it took to make things right. I will buy another extended warty with this company. Thank you. Diane

The process went very smoothly. The SquareTrade rep explained what would happen and the time frame for replacing my iPhone. Actually the new phone arrived in one day which was a pleasant surprise. I am very pleased that I have the SquareTrade coverage. The only thing that I would have preferred was a clearer definition of the condition of the replacement phone. The rep called it and conditioned phone. I was later advised that it was probably new or a phone returned by subscriber because they changed their minds.

I have been working for over 6 weeks on a claim that should have been a process that takes less than a week. Some background... I have a Galaxy S9 in Sunset Gold. I used the company to fix a shattered screen. They sent me to their only "approved" vendor in the area, who put a black screen/frame on my gold phone. Now, trying to get this fixed... I called and explained that I now have no resale or trade-in value for my phone because my phone's frame no longer matches the back color. They claim that they are resolving this issue and will be sending me a replacement. They tell me they will call me back within 24 hours to complete the process, as the issue must be "reviewed and handled by the supervisor." However, they assure me it will all be taken care of.
So, for the last 6 weeks I have called every few days and I am told the same thing. I have even gotten emails telling me that my new phone has shipped... However when I call they assure me that no phone has yet shipped. Honestly, aside from 24 hour phone support, I have nothing good to say about this company and their phone insurance. At this point, I've really just been ripped off. If you're deciding where to get phone insurance, go to a bigger name place where you can rest assured that you're in good care and that you will get what you pay for.

The claims process involved filling something out online and then talking to someone. They replaced it. Overall, my experience with this company was excellent.

Do NOT waste your money on a Square Trade protection plan. I purchased a plan when I bought my Apple Watch through Samsclub.com. Square Trade does not specify what is covered in the plan when you purchase it. They neglect to tell you that accidental damage is not covered -- until you try to file a claim. Then they tell you that your product is not covered. Why purchase insurance that is not going to cover accidental damage? They purposely don't tell you that accidental damage isn't covered so that they can take your money and then not provide protection for your product. Square Trade is a BAD INVESTMENT! I would have given Square Trade a 0 star rating, but that wasn't an option.
Hello Leslie,

It was difficult finding someone to fix my phone close to me. I finally went with The Fix, which was about a half hour away. Instead we had three emails back and forth and The Fix wasn't very happy send the receipts again.

I was very satisfied with the turnaround time to repair the broken screen on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I was also happy with the repair up until yesterday, when I noticed a bright white spot beginning to return on my screen. Although I am still within the 30 day guarantee on SquareTrade repairs, I'm hesitant to send the phone back to them. I put a high-quality screen protector on my phone, which was pretty expensive. I would have to remove it to send the phone to SquareTrade.
ALSO, and this is the main reason for not sending the phone back--I have no guarantee that SquareTrade won't replace this one with a refurbished phone that may not even be the same make and model, just a comparable phone. I want this one back, because I know how well I've taken care of it, plus I want THIS make and model of phone. In the future I will not buy SquareTrade insurance because of this replacement policy. If I buy insurance, it will be insurance that either repairs the phone that I have and guarantees those repairs longer than 30 days, OR replaces the phone with a new one of the same make and model if the original phone can't be repaired.
Hello Joni,
We apologize for any difficulty with your recent repair.
Squaretrade extensively diagnoses the hardware of all items our technicians repair at our mail-in center, this helps us ensure the repair has been completed and your device is experiencing no additional issues. If your device returns with any kind of failure we do provide our 30 day rework period, which as you mentioned is in place to guarantee the repair quality of your claim.
If your device is still experiencing issues please contact us at your earliest convenience so we can have these concerns addressed. If Squaretrade technicians are unable to repair your phone we will migrate your claim to a different resolution, such as replacement or reimbursement.
We understand you're concerned with our replacements but Squaretrade always does our best to provide the same model of device. If we're not able to source the exact replacement we work to provide a replacement that is comparable or technically superior compared to your original product. These devices are extensively audited to ensure they're fully functional and working to manufacturer standard.
We appreciate you bringing us these concerns and we again apologize for any inconvenience.

Updated on 07/03/2019: I do not know why my reply cannot be public. So I am writing a new complaint against SquareTrade because I want it public. I received a response that did not accept failure within ST. I don't expect to change anything with ST. What I do expect to do is have a voice with Costco and to let them know everything that has happened. The company that you set up a repair appoint is almost a 3 hour drive from my home. From a so called appointment for Friday which was confirmed with Tyese, which was not confirmed with a specific time frame. So I called, was told I didn't have an appointment, got yelled at from the pregnant lady who told me that the woman who made an appointment for me had no business doing the scheduling.
However, this other woman... drove the pregnant woman to the hospital so one would think she would be kind to this woman whose name is Tyese???? It was as if I had to hear too many personal issues within a repair appliance company that absolutely handles themselves inappropriately. PG Mechanical in Hesperia. I also was told by the pregnant woman that they have constantly told ST not to put appointment dates on emails to customers because ST does not do their scheduling for repair appointments...and they repeatedly tell you this.
I just got off the phone with Angelica from ST. I sent her an email and she called me right back. So thank heaven for Angelica. The only person within ST that does her job. I gave her a detailed story of what transpired with the repair company. You can listen to the tape as she advised me that our conversation was recorded, and I said "Great and I only hope executive at ST listen to it!" Of course, it won't be because ST is in the business of delaying repairs and making it more difficult to get a claim approved or acted upon. It should not be this difficult. You need to take a day off from work and maybe some more days... for someone to set up an appointment. If ST is going to respond, they please don't pull out a generic response. Respond to the numerous problems that occurred. Especially with Peter who hangs up on you so he doesn't have to set up an appointment.
Original Review: Two years ago, I purchased 2 warranties from Costco for my washer and dryer from SquareTrade. I have a problem with my dryer door. From 8am in the morning and it is almost 1pm, I have yet to get an appointment. I called Costco Concierge and even they had to get back to work. ** from the Appliance Area hung up and never called back nor followed through. **, a supervisor from claims had me on hold. And finally when he said he had a supervisor he was lost in space.
Take the week off from work because you will need it. Don't forget to shower before you call because you will be on hold and be disconnected for a long time. Costco Executives should really re-evaluate their relationship with SquareTrade. SquareTrade needed everything including video of the defected appliance. SquareTrade is so disorganized. I don't see how Costco can continue a relationship. A 2 year, 1 month old appliance. I said I would rather go through breast cancer than deal with SquareTrade and I mean it. Costco, open your eyes. Dump SquareTrade.
To name some of the SquareTrade Workers I have spoken to today. **, ** (who should be fired), **, **(supervisor-on hold indefinitely with this guy even when he says he has someone who can help me), **(supervisor) - she got the video and still waiting. Employee list to be continued. Do you really think the SquareTrade Warranty is worth the paper it is written on. Nope... It isn't.

This company is not good and I will never use them again. I purchased a 3-year warranty on my waterproof device and while I was in the shower the faceplate on my device popped off and water got inside and this company refused to repair. They told me my device was not water proof and they do not cover water damage. He told me they do not cover accidental damage and I explained this was not accident or caused by anything I did and my product was defective. I asked for his manager and phone number repeatedly, avoided my request and proceeded to tell me he had several managers and there was no direct phone number. He gave me the general customer service number and after repeated request he finally gave me a name for one of his managers with a direct number.
This company does not stand by their warranty and their customer service is terrible. I would avoid them at all cost. I was able to at least get my warranty cost refunded. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. I contacted the manufacturer of my product who verified that the product is indeed waterproof and apologized for the defective product and is sending me a new one.
Hello Cherea,
We apologize we were unable to approve your claim.
Squaretrade Standard Protection plans are intended to cover hardware or electrical failures due to normal use, not physical or liquid damage. These types of issues are covered beneath our Accident Protection plan, though we understand there is a discrepancy regarding how this failure occurred.

Hello Lawanda,
We apologize for any difficulty with your Squaretrade warranty.
Squaretrade warranties cover products up to the item's purchasing price, therefore the purchased warranty must have coverage which includes coverage up to this amount. This warranty only covered a product worth up to $100, whereas your item purchasing price was much higher.
Due to this we are unable honor the plan and we have refunded it's full purchasing price. We again apologize for any inconvenience but one of our specialists has directly emailed you to further discuss the situation.

Don't bother calling them, All they want to do is get you off the phone and for you to file your own claim through the web. Going through that process I have been misinformed (in writing and on chat) and feel the main purpose of the insurance is to create so many hassles, you want to give up. Have a Samsung Note 8, Warranty bought through Target. Phone won't charge. Was given the name and address of a phone repair place to take my phone to. They do not repair Samsungs. Email received stated if I want to go to another store, go to the claim status page to change, which I did. No other options were listed.
I opened a chat, who told me he could not give me an option and I needed to call the 877 number, which I did. I was told they could not give me any other options, although when I first filed the claim, 2 options were listed. I was then told I could take the phone to any place for repair. With my experience with them so far, I have no trust in their advice, as they also have the option of denying a payment request. Shame on Target and shame of this insurance.

I own three sets of headphones, two pair lasted past the extended warranty coverage time frame. The last pair I purchased stopped pairing with my phone after two months after purchasing them. I contacted SquareTrade and was told to send my headphones in to a repair center and they would repair the unit or replace them.
Approximately 2 weeks later I received a notification stating the claim was denied due to water damage with was not covered by the warranty plan. I knew this claim was untrue, the headphones were not exposed water outside of normal perspiration during wear. I called Square and told them that there this could not be an accurate assessment of the equipment because the headphones were not exposed to water. I was told I could pay to send the headphones to a separate repair shop and if they verify there is no water damage contact them to reopen the warranty claim.
I was deeply disappointed with my claim experience with SquareTrade and felt scammed and cheated. I would not recommend purchasing an extended warranty for small electronics from SquareTrade. I do not believe their repair technicians are competent enough to properly evaluate valid claims which leaves customers with who have valid warranty claims out of luck.
Hello Eric,
We apologize we were unable to repair your item.
Squaretrade offers a variety of warranties, in this case your item is covered by our Standard Protection plan. Standard Protection ensures your product's hardware or electrical failures are repaired, so long as the failure has been caused by normal usage or wear and tear. When your item was received at our repair center our technicians found signs of liquid damage inside the item, this requires an Accidental Protection plan to be covered.
We understand you disagree with this diagnosis and one our specialists has reached out to discuss the situation. We haven't yet had a chance to speak but we hope to discuss the situation soon and improve your experience with Squaretrade.

I bought a cheap gaming chair at Staples for like $100. It was $130 on sale for $100. The cashier sells me on the protection plan and assures me that if anything happens I can get the same exact chair or the $100 I paid back. NO PROBLEM. It covers accidents all that. Well fast forward 9 months when it gets scratched up by a cat and cushion is flat and uncomfortable, I try to file a claim and am offered $85. Not enough to buy the same chair ANYWHERE or a replacement. Of course I just want the same chair which is still abundant at Staples. Only to be told that they don't know if they can get same one, it may be different or REFURBISHED. AS IN USED.
I chose replace option to find out if I can get same one and wait for days and get no response until I go online to chat with a rep. Which says same thing and wants me to agree to a replacement without knowing what they are gonna send me and by doing so it will effectively end my protection plan options. Yea not gonna agree to anything uncertain or any product you just want to send to save money. Like what is the problem with replacing a $100 item for a company this big that you got paid to insure. Like don't sell protection plans then if you can honor even the smallest ones.
I now have to call and waste time out of my day to try to figure this out or get my money back for protection plan or go to Staples and try to get a complete refund or exchange for a new chair 9 months later which they probably won't want to do but won't want to deal with an angry customer due to SquareTrade trying to scam people. I wouldn't recommend this plan to anyone. I believe Staples even stopped selling it so that should tell you a lot.

I'm not a happy camper. I waited for about three weeks to get SquareTrade to honor their warranty. I had a coffee maker and it failed so Amazon sent me a new one. Amazon sent me a new one with no charge on it. Since I had problems with the first one, I bought the SquareTrade warranty for the second one. It started leaking and filing the claim was easy. I paid $39.99 for the coffee pot and I bought the warranty, but all they refunded me was $34. I asked if that was because of depreciation. I’ve never had SquareTrade do that. They really dropped the ball on that one. They kept saying that I didn’t pay anything for the coffee maker and asked what the problem was.
They would say that they'd call me back, but nobody ever returned a call. Then they'd ask me to fax them something and say that as soon as I send it in, to call back and ask for so and so and they will get things straightened out. Every time they told me to send them something, I sent it to them. Then, they would say no, they needed something else. It was just on and on. That was when I told them that I wasn't asking for the world. All I wanted them to do was honor their warranty that I paid for. At one point, they offered to send me the $6.37 that I paid for the warranty. It has been three weeks, and it got to be a little bit aggravating.

I went online and I bought SquareTrade for my device. I had used them since they went in business. They were a lot cheaper than Insureon or one of those companies. There were a couple times we submitted claims. It was like you call up if your phone’s not working, they send you a new phone, and you mail back your old phone. In the past two years, they’ve changed that a little bit where they tell you, “We’ll get your phone fixed, and we’ll reimburse you for it” or you can send it back to them, and they’ll fix it and get it back to you in a couple of days. So, originally, it was a replacement deal and after they realized that gets costly, they cut back on how they do things. They’ll get it fixed at one of their repair shops or get it fixed at your repair shop and they’ll reimburse you.
The customer service team at SquareTrade is nice when you call them on the phone. Since the last time I used them, I have an open claim with them because my daughter cracked her phone screen, and she doesn't wanna send it in to get it fixed, so it’s just sitting there. And when we bought a new iPhone X, the deals from Apple were better, price wise. With AppleCare, when you have a problem with your phone like you're pressing a button that should work and it doesn't work, they’ll tell you what you're doing wrong and they'll be polite about it. Where with SquareTrade, they're not there to help you get the phone to work. They’re there to make sure they fix it.
Reviewed June 26, 2019
I paid $8.99/month for 8 months before I cracked my screen... Unfortunately the deductible for a screen repair is the EXACT SAME cost as paying for it to be repaired/replaced at the Apple Store. I can't imagine why or how this plan is worth it. Even if it were a more serious repair (ie water damage) I could replace the phone for under $400 so I can't see the justification in paying $108/year with a $150 deductible. I am 99% certain the plan showed me a $50 deductible for screen replacement when I signed up for it, but I guess I should have read the fine print.
The thing that will prevent me from ever considering SquareTrade again for any other devices is the requirement to call to cancel. I hate this practice by the companies that use it and it's always a sure sign to me that I won't do business with them again. I'm sure I'll get some BS explanation as a response to this, but there is no justifiable reason why, after providing credentials to log into my account, I can't simply click a couple buttons and cancel. Instead I have to call through a bunch of prompts and talk to a guy who wants to resell me on it without addressing my main issue.
Hello Scott,

I filed a claim to have my cracked Apple watch repaired/replaced. Apple stated they don't repair the watch, only replace it. I sent the old watch to Apple. Got the new watch after SquareTrade authorized the claim. Now they are dragging to pay the claim even though they authorized it. They want Genius Bar Work Authorization form and paid receipt showing both the damage watch and replacement watch serial numbers. Apple provided me a invoice which I sent to SquareTrade. SquareTrade is stating it only has the damage watch serial number on the receipt and needs to have both the old and new watch on the receipt. That I also need a work authorization form. And that the repair ID on the invoice i submitted is not verifiable. So I created the repair ID? That doesn't even make sense.
All of these things can be verified thru Apple with one phone call or one email. Now they are making me get all kind of forms to send them. It's ridiculous. Definitely NOT worth the hassle for the money. Stick to Apple Care. Now, SquareTrade is telling me if the required documents is not received by a certain time they will cancel my coverage and refund my money. It goes to show you how garbage the company is. First it was documents needed, now it's, "if you don't send documents by said date we will cancel your whole policy." Doesn't even make sense. What does my claim have to do with canceling my coverage? There's better out there and SquareTrade is definitely not it. I REPEAT, DO NOT INVEST OR WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS COMPANY.

I gave an iPhone 5C to my daughter and since I know things happen with kids, I had it on a protection plan. So when it stopped working, I filed a claim with SquareTrade and they made me go to Apple. They said Apple would take care of me, however, Apple said the phone was out of warranty so they wouldn't do it. I had to let SquareTrade know and they told me I am eligible for the refund, but I still had not sent the phone in because I work so much. It wasn’t an easy claims process but it wasn’t difficult either. Square Trade gave me one option in the beginning and was going based off everything they had to do. That didn’t work but they still had a second option for me to do. So, that was pretty good. I also had good interactions with their reps. Having filed that claim, I found the extended warranty to be very valuable. I'm gonna put down all my items.

I am a high school teacher who purchased an electric pencil sharpener with the protection plan. I know how hard students are on pencil sharpeners and that they usually break. Mine stopped working and I'm guessing that a student got frustrated since it wasn't working and broke the case. Because I didn't lie on the website and said what happened, they won't replace it. So beware...Use correct words like 'mechanical failure' or 'electrical failure' only when filing your claim. Don't tell the truth because that doesn't make any difference. Just another frustration to add to a classroom without a way to sharpen pencils. And yes, it is my fault because I should have noticed right away that it wasn't working.

Hello Luis,
We're sorry we were unable to approve your recent claim.
Squaretrade offers Standard and Accidental Protection plans, each of which offer varying degrees of coverage. The policy covering your product was a Standard plan, of which protects against hardware and electrical failures due to normal usage. Unfortunately this plan does not cover against physical or liquid damage, this is why we were unable to approve your claim.
Squaretrade works to ensure our plans are advertised properly and we also provide customers access to their warranties at anytime via our website or mobile app. If desired we can also provide a copy of the warranty contract via email or hard copy upon request which provides more details regarding your policy coverage.
Since we were unable to service this product we have processed a full refund of your warranty purchasing price. We again apologize for any inconvenience.

I bought a Kate Spade watch that was out of production from eBay for $200. I was offered a $15 warranty so I signed up. About 5 months later the little marks that represent the numbers started falling off. I called SquareTrade and first they made me prove that I had tried Kate Spade first and then they said that they could fix it. I sent it to them after paying for professional packing so it wasn’t damages in shipping.
They somehow decided that it wasn’t covered because it was physical damage and must have been dropped. That was not the case and there is no physical sign of damage on it. No scratches or dings or dents just the loose little marks that I told them about. When I called to ask what made them think it had been ‘dropped or bumped” they didn’t know other than the fact that the little marks were loose inside the watch face. They didn’t attempt a repair or give me any answers. They did refund the warranty price. This was the biggest scam ever! Sell a warranty and then refund purchase price on the rare occasion that it needs to be used. Never again will I be fooled and you should either. Melissa
Hello Melissa,
We apologize your recent claim was denied.
Squaretrade sells a variety of warranties, some of which include differences in coverage. Your watch was covered by our Standard Protection plan, this type of policy protect devices from hardware or electrical failures due to normal usage. When this item arrived to our repair center our technicians determined this watch had experienced a drop or an impact, this type of damage would require an Accidental Protection plan to be covered.

Any time I buy new equipment, I buy protection. SquareTrade was what was available and I purchased it from the stores. There are various stores that offer the same company. I bought two from Best Buy and three from Office Depot. They handed me a brochure that had all the information for my extended protection. The 800 number was already highlighted. I got an email after I bought the protection from SquareTrade to my town. It contained a confirmation that I bought the extended protection. But no one ever talked to me until I had to file a claim.
I have SquareTrade for several items like my UPS printer back-up services. When we had a failure of the devices, I made claims with SquareTrade. It was actually for two printers. One was an easy claim but the other was not. I was at the edge of my three-year extended service and they were not gonna cover it. It was a day from the end of the timeframe. I guess they have rules and regulations. They just felt like it wasn't worth it.
When making a claim, you do everything online. You go in, attach a picture of your receipt and a picture of the equipment that has failed. You then wait for their decision and you get an email telling you of their decision. You answer them that you accept their decision. If they're gonna pay you something, they send you a check in the mail within two to three weeks. But if they email you back and say, "We're terribly sorry. Even though you are days from the expiration of your extended warranty, we just feel that this item cannot be provided or protected at this time," there's nothing you can do. You just reply you received the email and don't make any comments. It's just yes or no.
I did a claim once over the phone, but there was no person. There were just questions and you choose 1, 2, 3, 5, or whatever the scale they give you. It then tells you they're gonna send you an email to the email you provide or a text message, depending on what you choose. I choose an email because then you have a paper trail. Nobody ever really talks to you. You basically talk to a machine and whoever's on the other side. I was really shocked to get an email that they wanted to talk to me about SquareTrade and I was questioning why. Nobody ever talked to me when I needed them. They were not available to tell me my claim was not covered.
If there is another service available, I would choose them over SquareTrade. Unfortunately for me, there isn't one available in my area from the various companies. I'm not happy with the solution that I received from SquareTrade because it was hit or miss. I pay the money but I didn't get the return that I expected. Also, I call several times in hopes that I could talk to a real person and explain the situation about the other printer. I am hoping that they would give me some kind of coverage on it and they would help me replace it. But they chose not to.
If the extended warranty works, it's valuable. If it doesn't, you're out the money. When SquareTrade called me, I only accepted because I felt like I could get to vent again about the lack of treatment that I received, the lack of care and just taking people's money. They take other people's $75 for an expected insurance of three years but we don't get anything. Multiply that by 100 sales a month in office supply or in electronic supply and that's $7,500. SquareTrade is raking the dough but they are not paying. I am dissatisfied and would never recommend them.

They contacted us back, walked through the process, tried to help fix the TV and when it didn’t work, she said we have to get a new one. And it was there within a couple of days. I had a problem with the generator and called SquareTrade to file a complaint, was told that 3rd party had canceled my insurance and should call Amazon or 3rd party, I called Amazon and while I was online she called 3rd party, both said my insurance had never been used or canceled. Amazon wrote 2 emails to SquareTrade and when I call SquareTrade back they wouldn't even read them or listen to me. I will never use SquareTrade again, also know that I'm disabled, live on a fixed income and that generator was a very large purchase for me, if you want someone to insure your purchase don't use SquareTrade. Maybe a less expensive item they may cover, but I'm never using these people. Talked to 2 different people. Both will be very patronizing.

The OfficeDepot clerk suggested that I purchase the extended warranty for our new chair. The coverage seemed to be pretty good and I've never purchased from this manufacturer before. After 1.5 years the chair had noticeable wear in the armrest and backing mesh. Took advantage and put in a "no hassle" claim. Received a check from SquareTrade within a few days. My son loved the chair, so we went out and purchased another one also with SquareTrade coverage.

I buy a lot of electronics for our home and our children's homes as well. I really feel more safe and secure with my purchases, when SquareTrade is offered. I have even made purchases on used, renewed, refurbished, and reconditioned products, as long as whoever is selling them (Amazon or eBay), offers SquareTrade. I have been buying their plans for years now, and when you have a claim to file, it is handled either by repair (which is usually a lot quicker than the manufacturer), or by sending you a check for the full amount (excluding shipping and taxes).
I have even made purchases for my kids and transferred the SquareTrade plans in their names. I once bought my daughter a washer and dryer through Sears, who offered me one of their very high priced plans that I could not afford. I called SquareTrade, and purchased a more affordable plan through them, then I transferred the plan into my daughter's name. Sure enough, something did go wrong and SquareTrade sent someone to her home to repair it. No questions asked. What more can you ask for?

There was no visible damage when I sent them in to be fixed. The sound still worked fine. They were wrapped in a bubble envelope inside a box packed with paper. They were packaged properly but somehow when they arrived at the repair center the hinge was snapped and my claim was denied because there was accidental damage. I have now been sent back a pair of headphones that do not work. I am extremely upset and will not use SquareTrade again.

Bought warranty with TV from Costco. New warranties say SquareTrade has discretion to pick whether to reimburse purchase, replace TV, or repair. My 2015 contract does NOT have that discretion language. Have been going through relentless hoops for months. I don’t want a new TV, I want repair of dead TV or reimbursement. I have a DVD tablet which wasn't working. That time, I could see black lines and I couldn't cut it off. Initially, I called HSN but they said that I should call SquareTrade. I called SquareTrade to put in a claim for my DVD tablet but then their reps gave me a bunch of runaround talking about how I don't have a warranty. I buy a warranty for anything that's over $100. I called HSN back and they called SquareTrade. What I got was a return label so I sent out my DVD tablet thinking it was going to SquareTrade. However, the whole package came back to me because there was a lithium battery in it that couldn't be sent. Furthermore, the package was going to the wrong place, HSN.
So I called SquareTrade again and again their reps told me that I don't have a warranty. Thereafter, I talked to HSN again and their reps said that my warranty was canceled. I told the rep with whom I was speaking that I didn't cancel the warranty. She then said that it got canceled and that they put my money back in my account. I went to my back account and my records show where I paid for the insurance and that HSN and/or SquareTrade didn't give me my money back. When I called them again, another rep said that it was a mistake on their end and that my warranty was cancelled from there.
The first rep tried to ask me if I wanted her to give me my $27 back. I told her no because I bought the warranty. It's now way over a year later and she wanted to give my warranty money back. I called HSN again and they got other people. I bought the warranty and there's proof in my bank account. I also have my warranty paper. I purchased a three-year warranty for my DVD tablet for $23.07. Somebody would have to pay for it.
Even though I have a problem going on, I'd recommend SquareTrade and I love them. When stuff is in the right, I have no problem with them. They get my stuff sent. If they can’t fix it, they send my money back. I bought a Motorola phone and it was horrible. I can't text on it because it would stop. I couldn't talk on it either. It just goes crazy but then the next minute, it would work. SquareTrade handled that quickly. I got a new phone coming. So, I know that they're not the problem.

By that time, I called SquareTrade back and said, "I don't need this new phone 'cause I had gotten a new phone already." They said, "You already filed it and we've already paid the claim, so you have to just send the original phone back." And that's what I did. It was quite simple.

SquareTrade requires the proof of purchase for all items before a claim can be filed as this helps us determine the best resolution for each claim. SquareTrade is the Paul Masson of insurance companies. Their business motto is to figure out a way not to pay the client. They pay no claim before its time. They got more angles than a geometry exam. You’re on hold, then they send you to some guy who doesn’t understand English and then they say this and say that. It’s a mess. When you buy off Amazon, which I do a lot, you think everything’s gonna go okay then it doesn't, then you wind up dealing with SquareTrade. Two years ago I bought a room dehumidifier. The traverse wheel broke on it so I called them and sent a picture. I waited and they said they'd call me back. A week later, they called me back and said they weren't paying the claim ‘cause they don’t have the product. The product is about 70 pounds, so for me to ship it back to them, it’s gonna run 89 bucks. They wound up paying me half.
Hello Phillip Smith,
We are sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with your experience.
SquareTrade always does its best to offer repair and replacement solutions as our top priority. A reimbursement can be offered when the initial options are unavailable. In some cases, SquareTrade requires customers to send their damaged or defective unit to us for evaluation so that a reimbursement can be processed. This process allows customers to mail the device using a prepaid shipping label for a quick reimbursement resolution. Although many customers favor this option due to the quick turnaround, others may not, as in this case.
We appreciate your time in reviewing us, and we look forward to providing a better experience in the future.

I called about a week before this review and I've been having an issue trying to get my laptop fixed. First my laptop has had a couple issues, one a charging issue along with the laptop running really slow. I don't install many items on my laptop except Microsoft office and haven't installed anything else, so I spent 1.5 hours on the phone for them to say I have to do a complete reset of the software. Because the laptop is running really slow which it was a clear hardware issue, I let my laptop run for about a day and a half and still said please wait. I responded to their email and they got back to me at different times of the day so I again had to get in contact with their tech support after going through the long menu. 45 minutes later they again want me to do another reset and call them back or respond to their email.
The most frustrating part is I completed it again. Did the long reset myself which if I wasn't tech savvy is of course a long process, however I'm not getting paid to do this. But if I in fact decided to just drop a cup of water and burn up my whole computer they would tell me to mail it out no problem. I just don't understand how my time is not billable since I do my own electronic repair professionally and got the warranty in order to avoid repairing my own devices so it could be a quick and easy process. 3 hours wasted. If this were billable would have been $450 half of my laptop's worth, never using them again.

In the beginning of the claim, SquareTrade couldn’t find my warranty. They had to do some research on finding it because it has been a couple of years. They did find it after I scanned in my receipt. It showed them where I had purchased it and the number on it. After that, they walked me through their little troubleshooting, making sure it was the TV and not something else. Then the guy put in the two new parts. But there was no fixing it, so we got a new TV. They sent me three choices for the replacement. The TV that we got replaced was a 55-inch, and this new one is a 58-inch. So, we got a little bit more.
When we first started calling and talking to SquareTrade, they just wouldn’t listen. I could tell they were reading from a script. We kinda ran around with them a couple of times even though we were telling them that we’ve already done the troubleshooting since it was pretty easy to follow on YouTube. It was a little annoying. Also, they had to call for the TV repair guy from Oklahoma City because we don’t have one here in Lawton. But other than that, everything was great. The TV got here quickly.

I had an overall poor experience in regards to my extended warranty on a bed I purchased. It broke six months in and I had such a runaround for two weeks of calling and emailing different parties (where I bought it, manufacturer, and warranty provider). I was initially told it was covered and then after efforts trying to move forward in the process I was told “physical damage is not covered” (it’s a bed; what else is there besides physical damage? “Electric” she told me ????) and offered to refund me the warranty price .. of $16.. on a $200 bed... ???? Then I asked to speak to a manager and only then was ultimately fully reimbursed for my purchase via a check in the mail. After so much effort and incompetence of their staff, it was such a hassle. I would not insure w/ them again nor recommend.

I have bought the LG Bluetooth Headset from eBay on Oct 2016 with SquareTrade 3 yrs warranty paying $17.99. My warranty was delivered online with account creating option. I created an account and registered the product that I have bought. I still can see the product is listed under "Active warranties". Now it's been little over two and a half year and my headset stopped working. I tried to file a claim with all the info that I could gather and eBay had provided me. eBay has sent me two emails, one for Order confirmation and one for Shipped notification and had active product details link but I never received an actual receipt.
I uploaded screenshots of eBay email confirmation, SquareTrade acknowledgment email confirmation on purchase warranty and transaction from my credit card statement but now they keep asking receipt which I was never provided. Even having all the information on their file they are refusing services, only because they know eBay do not keep 3 yrs histories so they do not have to fulfill the warranty. Very disappointed. I would highly recommend all of you out there to stay out of SquareTrade scam.
Hello G G,
We apologize for any difficulty you experienced with this claim.
Squaretrade requires a purchase receipt for almost all warranties we have on file, for each purchase receipt we require specific information in order for that policy to be considered valid. In this case we did receive several different documents but these did not contain all the necessary information.
When this was brought to our attention a specialist reached out to discuss the situation with you, as well as to determine a resolution to your concern. Based on our conversation we came to a result satisfactory to both parties and we greatly appreciate you taking the time to speak with us.

If it had an option to rate negative on this I would. I purchased a plan with them. Couple of months later my son's 2DS fell off his dresser and it cracked the top screen so I know I had purchased the protection for accidental. So long story short I called about a clean. They said I didn't have accidental protection that I had standard. I told them know I told Walmart specifically I needed The Accidental because the game is for a three-year-old. They did not want to listen to anything I said. Instead they just kept cutting me off, being rude, being objective to everything I said, did not let me get anything in, didn't want to listen to nothing I said. I even have the receipt and they still didn't cover my item. My son's brand new game not even one month is here in my dresser just sitting there and they can't do nothing about it. I feel ripped off or and rob by this company.
Hello Angela,

Squaretrade offers both Standard and Accident Protection plans, of which offer different types of coverage. In this case we were unable to approve a claim because this item had damage which exceeded the warranty type.
We understand the consumer's concerns regarding the advertisement of this plan and we have taken steps to address these Squaretrade does our best to ensure our plans are properly advertised and we take concerns of this nature with great importance.

I learned my lesson in the past that unless you have some sort of insurance, if something happens it leaves you out on a big expense rather than minimizing the cost of your items or whatever electronic you may have. When it comes down to something that I need for work, I need to be reassured that even if something happens, at least I will have something to rely on, which was one of the reasons that I selected the coverage for electronic devices. There was a couple of people who suggested SquareTrade to me and the people at Verizon recommended it.
I called SquareTrade and filing the claim was a lot easier than I expected. It worked out quite well. I didn’t have to spend a lot of time with the customer service team on the phone. I described to them the issue and they knew what the problem was. That destroyed any frustration that I had towards the item that I purchased. In the beginning, I was skeptical and I was thinking that it was time to buy a new one. Then, when I called and the people were extremely helpful, that made a big difference. Now, I am going to keep the things that I need insured. An extended warranty is extremely valuable and I highly recommend SquareTrade. It is good to have a place that you can call and get answers as well as fulfill your need for the moment and to ease some of your anxiety. It has been a great experience.

Very poor thus far. I have called in TWICE (UPDATE-Now 3!) with no resolution on a mechanically broken product. The worst part is that I was to receive an email from them so I could reply with information they were requesting -however- I never received the email! I am not able to file a claim online. My claim # is not showing up in their system. So.... I have to call them back YET AGAIN. THIS HAS BECOME A MONTH LONG PROCESS that still isn't resolved. Very disappointing and unfair when I purchased this plan to protect my investment; yet I am not being protected, and my expensive product is now a complete waste at the time of year when we want to use it most.
Update on my THIRD CALL: Customer service clearly didn't want to stay on the phone with me to make sure my issue was resolved. I STILL don't know if it will be! I requested they wait on the phone with me since they did not fulfill their end as promised after the last phone call! Horrible service. GO WITH ASSURANT!!! My product claim was processed within 48 hours (only took that long because they needed a copy of my receipt, but were prompt in responding)! Claim was for about the same price as this claim through SquareTrade. SHAME ON YOU, SquareTrade! ICK

This practice of not covering the most common issues is predatory, at best. In 2019 it is fair and reasonable for a person to expect that buying insurance on an object would cover physical or accidental damage to that object. If Allstate sold car insurance that didn't cover such damage it would not be in business due to class action lawsuits and building a reputation of acting in bad faith.
When I purchased a protection plan for my Nintendo switch, I was told I was buying the version of the plan that covered accidents like cracked screens and liquid damage. A couple months later, my kid drops it in water, it won't turn on or charge. Upon filing my claim, I got the following response from SquareTrade. "Looks like you reported accidental or physical damage. Your plan is a Standard protection plan that covers electrical and mechanical failures only. What happens next? We're sorry we couldn't help you this time, but you're still covered for any electrical and mechanical failures in the future. If your item is beyond repair, please visit our help page for cancelling a plan." Obviously, any reasonable person would buy coverage for the two things we all know are the most common issues for portable electronics, cracked screens and liquid damage. It is not my fault that I did not get the coverage that I thought I was paying for.
Hello Benjamin,

Walmart offered SquareTrade and I was given a pamphlet. It was very informative of our plans before and it's very cut and dry. SquareTrade's claims process was super simple, too. I filed a claim because of a broken screen and the process went smoothly. I mailed the phone to them and as soon as UPS tagged it, SquareTrade sent me a gift card via email. The headset had broken two months prior and it was like a factory defect. We were able to find the receipt and it was also had a protection plan on it so we had turned both in at one time. Filing the claim was really easy. I was expecting to get new stuff right back but SquareTrade took a certain amount of money off and sent a check in the mail. To have money taken off and to have to buy another one was a pain but other than that, it was fine. Having an extended warranty is nice. I have recommended to friends and told them that in the future if they buy any games through Walmart or anything, they should make sure to get the SquareTrade warranty because it's worth it if they find themselves in a jam.

I bought a SquareTrade protection plan for my Samsung TV from Costco. I bought it because it was offered through Costco. On April 25th 2019, My TV blacked out all of a sudden. Opened a claim with SquareTrade, went through troubleshooting steps with a technician on phone. Technician "figured" out what the problem was and informed me that In-Person repair will be provided and the spare parts will be shipped directly to me. Took a week for the parts to arrive and get the next available appointment. Service Provider may not honor your selected slot. I've selected 8 am - 12 pm slot but got the message from them that they would come after 1pm. In-Person technician couldn't repair the tv with the parts Squaretrade has sent. Squaretrade confirmed that TV is not repairable and would replace my TV. Until this point, the whole communication/experience about the repair was OK.
But after that it was painful. They've sent LG replacement options for a Samsung TV. Since I have Samsung accessories I've asked for Samsung options. They've sent me a Samsung option but it's a cheaper option compared with my current TV. After emailing them twice saying that I didn't like their option, I've never received any reply. When I called them after waiting for a week I was told they never received my emails. At this point you are at the mercy of the Squaretrade for a comparable TV. You will not be offered reimbursement if you don't like their option. You have to take whatever they give you. After more than 20 days, spending a lot of time on phone, troubleshooting, in-person repair, I'm still without a TV. When we hear names like Costco, AllState (parent company of SquareTrade), we tend to believe SquareTrade is a fair company. But it's not. I'll stay away from this company.
Hello Manu,
We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your claim.
Squaretrade offers repair, replacement and reimbursement as our resolutions. These resolutions are determined based on your item category and the issue it is experiencing, though our first intent is to always offer repair when eligible. In this case we initially believed your item could be fixed, when it became clear that wasn't the case we instead migrated to providing you a replacement unit.
We understand you have some concerns regarding our replacement but this is a brand-new television which actually has superior technical specifications compared to your original model. Squaretrade does not base our offers on factors such as pricing, as these factors vary over time.
We again apologize for your experience but we appreciate you bringing us your concerns.

I had a plan paid in full for a year. I submitted all the uploaded photos and receipts and they took their payment. After a year I went to month to month for 2 months. I called about filing a claim for a battery after 14 months of payments. They told me they needed receipts for the phone that I purchased outright 2 years ago and since changed carriers. I asked them about the photos I had uploaded initially to get the plan. I was told they were blurred and I'd have to track down my receipts or I couldn't file a claim. I asked them to email the photos to me. I received them and they had OBVIOUSLY been altered.
Everything was perfectly clear and in focus except the numbers on the receipts. I asked why they accepted them if they had "actually been unreadable" and was told it isn't looked at unless you try to file a claim even though required for the policy. So I couldn't track down my receipts so therefore wasted about $200 dollars in insurance that was not usable when needed. I was able to get about a $25 dollar refund. Be aware. Company not on the up and up.
Hello Amanda,
We apologize for any difficulty with your warranties.
Squaretrade offers mobile plans for phones which were new at the time of purchase regardless of how much time has passed, so long as customers are able to provide us receipts verifying the item purchase details. Unfortunately your item receipts did not show the device purchasing dates or prices, this is why we were unable to use them for your policy.

Submitting a claim with SquareTrade seemed pretty easy and straightforward until I got to the point where they said it was all electronic. They said my claim had been approved and they sent me an email. On the email, it said to call a number and the number was impossible. I felt like it was trying to dissuade me from finishing the claim. It was like every option was diverting me back to starting a new claim. It was very difficult to get through and to sort out how to get through.
I was trying different options and calling back and about to give up. I was distracted with something else and was sitting there with the phone, and all of a sudden, it was putting me through. A person was there and asked me for the IME number of the phone. I got that out and finished the claim. He said the claim would be resolved by sending me a check of $85 which I didn't expect. I wanted the screen fixed. $85 was kind of odd because it didn't really resolve the problem. I couldn't buy a new phone for that. The phone originally was more than that and my screen was still cracked. By then, I was kind of done so I said okay. He sent me a check and I figured it was closed. The issue was done because I wasn't gonna go back to dealing with them. It was difficult to do the claim but they did something so it wasn't completely unsatisfactory. I can't discredit what they did, but it was hard to get them to do it. Also, what it was wasn't exactly a resolution.

I have purchased many SquareTrade plans over the years. I had a need to file a claim on a TV that I purchased from Best Buy. First off they made me, the customer do all their troubleshooting for them vs sending out a repair tech to diagnose the issue. After multiple emails proving the issue they sent me a “congratulations” email telling me they are going to replace my TV with a brand new TV.
However the TV they are offering me is a model well below what I bought. I picked my model Vizio M70-D3 because of its better picture. They are offering me a D or R series Vizio, the same models they sell at discount stores. I told them either fix my TV or replace it with the same exact model (which is still available just a new 2018) model. Or cut me a check for the purchase price. Isn’t that what their warranties always tout “we will fix it or cut you a check”. This is the LAST time I ever buy a warranty from them again. They don’t honor their contract nor do they offer you a TV of the same model. Save your money and buy from a reputable company.

First their claims email response don't ever send a confirmation, then after numerous phone calls they end up requiring pictures of the transaction and then you get the 3rd degree on the defective part that has failed. Then email comes that claim has been filed and have the part on hand when I call back. Ok since part is defective and I will have to spend the 3 hours to remove anyways I removed the part and had on hand to call back. Called back.
The symptoms of the failed part (purchased electronic steering gear) was steering wheel aimed at 10 o'clock. The dash lit up like a xmas tree and OnStar was texting me that steering, antilock brakes and traction control systems are in failure mode. Exact same codes and symptoms that made me purchase this item in the first place. Obvious a weak part and GM does not warranty a suspension part, but will gladly charge you $1400 for part and another $100 for install and calibration. I have been working on vehicles for 35 years and perfectly capable to change parts and diagnose problems being a degreed mechanical engineer.
After restating my address and claim issues for the 4th time, the non English speaking gentleman, after going to his superior 3x (I was not let to speak with) informed me that they don't refund and send back the part to vendor but they want me to take the vehicle in to a specialist and get a quote on parts and labor then submit that to them. Ok if this is your policy a reputable company would state that at time of purchasing their product.
The OEM part I bought on eBay was $300/free ship, $1100 less than dealer for exact same part. So I got the protection I thought. Now they want me to take the 3 hours to put back in the part, then take it to dealer 30 mi away or a suspension specialist to tell me it will be $2300 plus to replace part. Then I come back home and remove defective part, another 3 hours maybe, get a refund from SquareTrade thieves, purchase a new part, wait for shipment then another 3 hours to install, make appointment at dealer to align and calibrate for $250.
In all this stupidness they want me to jump thru and still not even sure they will not pull some more BS. All this time I have no vehicle to drive. It is to the point it is not worth the crap they WANT ME TO DO WITH THE INCONVENIENCE IT IS CAUSING ME. With lost time and no truck it has become totally not making sense. Is asked for a refund on my protection plan, they did but guess what they only refunded less than half the money they stole from me by not honoring and changing policies when a claim is made. This wasted 2 days of my time to resolve nothing but showing their true colors. I would have been better off day just purchasing a new unit and today have my truck on the road. I will never use SquareTrade or their parent company Allstate Ins for anything and I am going to spread the word. David **.

I will never buy another SquareTrade policy. I’ll get the runaround from my warranty from Samsung and SquareTrade from 10 am until about 3 pm. I had the TV for less than a year but guess what? They both say that it’s not cover. Samsung and SquareTrade will never get my business again. This is the 2nd time this same incident with the same type and brand has happened. Save your money on the warranty because they won’t keep their word. BBB will call and letters will be sent... Sincerely an ex-customer.
Hello Michael,
We apologize we were recently unable to approve your claim.
Squaretrade does our best to help all customers but we can only cover issues with your item which correspond with your warranty coverage. In this instance your item experienced physical damage to the screen and while we do sell Accidental Protection plans we do not offer them for TVs. Typically these plans are available for portable devices such as phones, laptops and more.
Due to this we have cancelled your warranty for a full refund of it's purchasing price. We again apologize for your experience.
Thank you,KM

A warranty would last longer and SquareTrade was cheaper. We've had their service for years now. The kids usually do the claim. We send the item in and get it back in a pretty much timely manner. We’ve had pretty good luck with their customer service. Other than the two days which we have to consider to get the item there and get it back, it’s pretty good. There could be a service around here that we could just take the item to as opposed to having to ship everything in.
SquareTrade has helped in the past for a cracked screen. However, for the most recent claim, SquareTrade didn’t help because she went to the Verizon store like they said, and they told her it’s something with the software. She can’t be without her phone, so she wasn’t able to send it in to get it repaired. So, we went with Verizon and Verizon took care of it for us.

Problem started Dec, 2018. Called, opened claim on my monitor to repair. (No mfg warranty). Was told to take to local auth. repair center which I did. After 3 months of working on the monitor with LG, LG said it was unrepairable. I contacted SquareTrade - to update my claim and they closed the initial case (due to inactivity that was out of my control). I was instructed to open a new one, which I did. I sent documentation in March from center stating it was not repairable (per SquareTrade request). Since then, I've called at least 5 more times to SquareTrade for resolution only to be told someone was looking at the case and I would receive a call or email back, later that day, with no response.
So far, this is a total waste of time and money. All I want is a working monitor. I've asked to speak with managers and consistently get the runaround. I can see no way to escalate my case with the SquareTrade phone support and nobody on the phone or chat can make a decision regarding my claim. I've wasted an immense amount of time on the phone and chat for no resolution as of today. Just got off the phone with them this morning (AGAIN!). I've been told (for the third time in two weeks) that I'll receive contact from them today. I have low expectations. The reps have all been very nice and supportive of my situation, but cannot do anything to help me other than send it to another department which, as of this point, I cannot directly speak with for some reason.
Basically at this point, I am stuck with a broken monitor with an "service plan" that provides no service. Seems like the "plan": part is to stall long enough on a claim so the buyer just gives up. Update - I wrote this at 9:30 am and kept the window open all day without submitting in case they exceeded expectations. They have not as of 5:00 pm so here we are...

I bought an iPhone 7 Plus 2 years back and paying 8.99$ every month towards the premium. After two years the phone is completely dead and not ready to power on. I called the SquareTrade and they sent me a procedure to reset the device which I did. Instead of repeated calls they finally came up with a solution of me paying the deductible of 149$ which if I go myself to a store I can get it done. When offering the SquareTrade policy they said nothing about all this.
I already paid more than 200+ dollars towards premium and now again I have to shell out 149$ for not even a new phone but to repair. The Apple Store was ready to offer a new phone for 300+ dollars in exchange for the old phone with new phone. These guys (SquareTrade) literally cheat when offering the policy. Without any replacement I had to cancel the policy and for no reason I paid 200+ dollars towards premium. SO guys don't buy SquareTrade. Instead of that policy you can pay from your pocket when you get it repaired by yourself. The biggest hassle is with the SquareTrade associated and automated process where the system holds you online and take you for a ride. The associates don't have knowledge for everything. They go to the supervisor or they pretend to be going and come back and say the same message they were saying earlier.

I have had 3 SquareTrade warranties on 3 different purchases. Eact time a claim was filed for a product failure I received a response that the mechanical failure was not covered under their standard warranty coverage and they refused to open any further claim for damage. The vendor was not responsible after 1 year and SquareTrade refused to accept any claim for warranty liability. The service was/is a waste of money. It is a better investment to purchase an item through a regular store and deal with instore service and warranties.

The printer would not print. My coworker cleaned the printhead and it still wouldn't print. She had to print things in color and it was streaked. It was not good quality even after she cleaned them, and she would put in new cartridges. We use only the original cartridges and we don't use the ones that have been done over. She said it was not doing what it was supposed to do and that was when we filed them. We had no problem filing for it. They had a little bit of a problem finding our claim, but within one day they had found it. They said they were gonna reimburse it, and they did. We're happy.

I work in a cemetery burying people every day and accidents happen all the time. I saw SquareTrade on the phone store and thought it would suit me well, so I got it. When I filed a claim, the lady I spoke to was really good. She answered every question I asked.
