I had a couple of old already used Priority boxes, instead of throwing away I cut them down to fit what I was shipping and turned it inside out. The postal worker noticed small strip of red and asked if I used a priority box. I said yes it was an already used box (twice) and I cut it down and turned inside out. She would not accept. The moral of this story is like all else...everything is a lie. Recycle, green, save whales, ozone, rainforest. **. IT'S ABOUT $$. They would rather fill holes full of garbage rather than not being able to squeeze every last cent possible!!

I have had five pieces of mail that were mailed from my office, stamped with a meter, that have NEVER been delivered. To this point, I have paid $80 in late fees to various companies (AT&T, mini-warehouse, Old Navy, sewage utility bill, Honda Finance). I am NEVER late paying my bills, two of these bills were going locally and were mailed about two weeks ago, my AT&T was mailed 2 1/2 months ago and none of these has reached their destination to this point. I have contacted the US Postal Service four times and was told I would receive a call back and have not received a call yet.

DO your readers know that the U.S. Postal Service is not responsible for parcel packages sent through them? They lost a $1200.00 package I sent to an E-Bay customer who did not take advantage of insurance options and the post office sent the package to dead mail one day after my sending it and after five months and I threatening to sue for breach of contract they replied with "As information, the U.S.Postal Service is excluded by federal law from liability for any claim arising out of loss, miscarriage, or negligent transmission of letters or postal matter". I believe that as many customers as possible should be advised of this and consider other carriers.

Called in May to get a mailbox on CR. Post office continued to tell me that they were working on it. After calling them every week, because they kept telling me to wait one more week, in August, I was told I could put the mailbox on the highway for "now". I was never told to fill out a form to have a mailbox placed on my county road. Carol, the post master, asked me to fill one out. I completed that day and returned it the first week in Sept. Now one person says it has been approved while another tells me that it hasn't been approved by Dallas office. I gave them 3 weeks before I called back today, 10-22-08. I was hung up on Laura ** and when I called back to get another number for Dallas office, I was told there is no number to call. To this day, no mailbox and still don't feel any closer to getting one.

I sent a package priority mail through the USPS expecting it to arrive 2-5 days afterwards. Well, that was on September 22, 2008 and it is now October 22, 2008, so I went by the post office here in my town and asked if there is a form for "lost" packages. I was sadly informed that there is no such thing. The clerk told me that it isn't their problem that the package didn't get to the sendee, but if I had bought insurance then they would refund me the "lost" item's claimed worth. Since when are we not responsible for the services that we supposedly provide? You get faulty service at the doctor's office, you sue and get reimbursement. Why is the government exempt from this part of the system, but everyone else held to it? All I want is refunded for the item, but will even settle for a refund in the shipping that never took place.

This year I have lost 5 packages mailing international, I still have receipt of 3 out of 5. I have lost receipts of the ones sent to Australia and Germany. The online information of the two packages sent to Canada on August 27, 2008 and Oct. 1, 2008 showed that "your item was accepted in ...", but do not track the items further.
One package sent to Hong Kong worth $1,000 had insurance of $500. The information only showed "international dispatch September 25, 2008" and until now the other person still has not received it. I called the post office, the "consumer affairs of USPS", spoke with several people and nothing came out of it. They said sorry, and nothing can be done....I cannot not use USPS, but I don't want to lose my merchandise now and then. Besides, this is a government business, what is their reason for all the lost packages???

In June of 2008, my hospital called me about a bill I had not paid. I informed them that I had not received a bill. They stated that the bill was returned to them. I gave them my address and they stated that the address I gave them is the address they sent it to. I asked that they send the bill again. I then informed my post office of my name and my address and asked them to please refrain from returning mail sent to me without my consent. I then began to receive mail again. Though, I did not know or had no way of knowing if mail was still being returned to the senders of my mail. Then today, October 21, 2008, I called the Department of Licensing office that was supposed to send me my license plate tabs for my car. They stated that they sent the tabs but they were returned to their office.
So for months now, this post office has continued to return mail sent to me to the senders. I don't know what other important mail may have been sent to me. But I did find out that my car insurance was cancelled because the bills they sent me were also returned to them. Also, I now know why I have not received two different mail-in rebates I sent out for back in the year 2007. My car insurance was cancelled because of this. I did not receive $100 worth of rebates I was owed. And I am driving with expired license plate tabs because they were returned to the licensing office without a request to have them returned.

I have an account with USPS and do a lot of online shipping with carrier pickup. I packed and insured an expensive piece of Daum crystal using a pristine and rigid box that had no imperfections. The crystal was packed using lots of bubble wrap and the ends were reinforced using stiff cardboard so there would be no shifting of the item during transit. The vase was shipped to an officer at a US Air Force base in Egypt. I was notified by the recipient that the box was crushed upon arrival and that the vase had shattered. I then called the US Postal service to inquire into the protocol for initiating the claims process since the box was shipped to the Middle East. I was instructed to have the box shipped back to my address and to bring it to my local post office where I was to fill out the claims paperwork and leave the parcel for inspection. When the package was returned, the box had visible damage and was crushed on a corner. I took the package to my local USPS and initiated the claims process as instructed.
I received a letter from USPS (dated August 4th) stating that there was no visible damage to the exterior or interior of the package. I personally saw the damage to the box so I went to my post office, retrieved the box and took photos of it on the counter. I enclosed photos of the package as documentation of the damage. The package remained at the post office per their instructions during the appeals process. I asked to be notified of the appeals hearing so that I could participate in the process.
I called August 12th (866-974-2733) and spoke with a postal employee. They advised that they needed more information from my local post office and that the denial did not look right. The employee said they would give me an update in 5-7 days. I never heard back from them. I called again on August 18th and they claimed they had no further information even after I was promised an update. I then called my local post office and a supervisor ("Al") said he had not heard from the claims department at all in reference to this claim. I called again on September 11th and was told that my appeal had still not been entered in their computer. Another call was placed on October 6th and I was told someone would call me back (incident # **).
Since there was still no record of my appeal, I mailed a second appeal with photos on October 9th, this time using Priority Mail with delivery confirmation (**). On October 9th, I called again to report that no one had called me back (incident # **). A Ms. ** told me that they would do some research and call me back. On October 15th, I called yet again and this time spoke with Sharon (incident # **) who promised me yet again that someone would call me back. On October 16th, someone did finally call me back but not in the time frame I had requested (after 12 noon PST) so I called them back. They acknowledged receiving Priority Mail from me but claimed that my appeal still had not been entered into the computer. I asked if there was notation of all the times I had called, and she said they were switching to a new computer system and that my calls may not have been saved.
Surprisingly, I received a letter today (October 20th) from Autria ** which was dated on October 16th stating that my appeal was denied. As I had called around 4-5 pm their time on October 20th, I don't see how they could have processed my appeal especially since their own personnel stated I was not even in the system yet. I have one final appeal to the Consumer Advocate in Washington, DC.
I under-insured the crystal for $800 and would like my $800 and shipping costs back. I can only hope that the consumer advocacy department in DC is more organized and interested in getting to the bottom of this than my experience with the Claims Dept in St. Louis who I found unprofessional and frankly, uncaring. This goes to show you that you can pay for USPS insurance but that does NOT mean that you are insured. I followed their instructions to the letter and have gotten nothing but delays, denials and more aggravation than you can possibly imagine. What is it going to take to get what I rightfully paid for???

I was serving in Iraq late last year. I purchased a computer from Best Buy in Sept-Oct 2007 time frame and they didn't ship overseas. So, I had the item shipped to my step-mother. She and my aunt then took the package to the post office and mailed it along with $500 worth of insurance. I never received the computer and returned home in nov. of the same year. I waited a month or so thinking the package would be forwarded to me. I never received and was told that I couldn't claim it through the purchased insurance with the original receipt. I filed a lost mail claim but that was useless. They don't keep track of insurance in their computers, which in my opinion is just another way of screwing the consumer.

We were wondering why the lobby was locked on Monday, 10/13/08, for Columbus Day. It has always been unlocked so we can access our PO boxes. The postmaster stated that if we have an issue, contact Consumer Affairs. I am not the only one complaining, but, maybe the only one submitting a complaint. The Postmaster stated that if they are open the previous Saturday hours, that should serve everyone. I stated that we are a business & not open on Saturday & in the past we were able to access our PO boxes/lobby. Thank you for your time.

I had one of the worst moments this morning in the postal office of Brookline, MA 02446. ** (I guess his name is **) serviced me on my refund using a money order. He asked me to fill out my name and my address on the money order. I did. I waited for at least a few minutes for him to come out. He didn't. I walked away. What I didn't know was that I should stay (He didn't ask me to stay or wait). He chased me out and yelled at me: "Why did you walk away? You have to wait. (He did say so when I was with him.)" Because he was rude. I have to yell back. Bad customer service. Or maybe worse, is that because I look different from him?

It has been three weeks and the United States Post Office (USPS) has not forwarded my mail from Ft Gordon, Augusta Ga to Jacksonville Florida. I gave a two-week change of address form prior to my actual move. There are a lot of important mail including accts, insurance, checkbook etc involved. The Post Office should be held accountable for the inefficient handling of mail.
I called Customer Service and they acted angry and defensive and just told me upfront that it should be forwarded. I keep explaining I haven't seen a single mail. They have no other way of tracking this and my concern is growing. If someone else get hold of this, it's a serious threat to identity theft as well as violating my privacy. USPS is not taking this seriously in terms of protecting data information. The length of time for processing should not take weeks. We're in the computer age and they should also have a better tracking mechanism on where these mails went.

The US Postal Service is getting horrible. I have several issues.
(1) The company I work for mails paychecks to about 150 employees. We are constantly getting calls (and cussings) from employees who don't receive their check. Sometimes they turn up on a few days, sometimes the checks are never ANYWHERE. It costs us $20 each check to put a stop payment on them at the bank. Isn't there anyone to complain to about this? It's a pass-the-buck situation. No one ever knows where the breakdown is.
(2) I recently received at my home a threatening letter from the propane gas company saying they had not received payments and had mailed monthly statements. This is October and I have not received a statement since July. I can understand one getting lost, but 2 or 3 in a row? The gas company swears they were mailed! I now have to pay 3 months at once or risk being cut off! The company does not do automatic bank withdrawals or I would go that route.
(3) There is no remedy for bad postal service, nowhere to file a complaint. I was directed to a USPO website, but all I ever got was an automated response to contact my local postmaster. I have done this NUMEROUS times and they say all they do is put it in a box to go to Louisville, KY. The worst problems are mail that is routed through Bowling Green, KY.
This is ridiculous. There should be consequences to their actions - or inactions - just as in any other business.

As of today, OCT 17th, the package has not arrived yet. The online track and confirm said that the package was accepted on the 7th. Since then no clue where the package at. I'm the sender, and the receiver needs his money back. The USPS is not qualify to take care of your belonging. They even ignore your issue when you call them. I'm a very angry customer and I need to know where the hell is my package at. I don't know why they still in business, I guess, because they belong to the government. Well, they're not worth trust. The Holidays season is coming. I wonder how they will handle all of the packages while they can't handle even in the slow season.

I took a package to the post office and paid $14.95 for guaranteed delivery by 3:00 p.m. the next day to Rockdale, TX, which is only about a 3-hour drive and is very small - less than 5000 people. When my sister, whom I was mailing the package to, got home from work, there was a message on her answering machine from her postal carrier stating that since her mail is delivered in the morning and the package didn't arrive to the post office there in time to be sent with her mail, she would just have to wait until the next day for the delivery... Unless it was dire that she receive the package that day then she could call and request it be delivered. Unfortunately, she gets home from work at around 4:30 and the post office closed at 4:00.
The infuriating thing is I arrived in town the next day and could have just brought the package with me if it hadn't been imperative that she receive it on the day I paid to have it delivered. Nowhere on my receipt or in my conversation with the mail clerk taking my money was there any stipulation that my package would be delivered the next day by 3:00 if it arrived in time to go out with the regular mail delivery AND if the postal worker felt like delivering it. This same thing happened last year when I sent her a package overnight and she didn't get it for 3 days because she didn't have any regular mail coming and they didn't want to make a special trip.

I mailed out a small package to my friend in Russia using USPS priority international postage. The cost was $11.95. After almost 30 days of non-delivery, I called USPS twice to inquire whether they can help me locate the package or at least offer an explanation. They blatantly offered none and simply told me that once my package leaves the US, there is nothing that they nor I can do to seek a resolution.
I find this highly unacceptable from both a consumer and business standpoint. If they charge me a fee to ship a package, I expect a decent explanation if they are unable to deliver or locate the missing article. Even a simple inquiry to their Russian postal counterparts would seem like a fair solution to my problem. Telling me that there is nothing that I nor they can do is ridiculous.

I have ordered 2 dresses from Hong Kong which have yet to be received. They were shipped over a month ago. This is the third package that the mail has lost or mis-delivered that has been shipped to me. The reason I believe that they mis-delivered it is because I constantly get items in the mail that are addressed to a different address, and to be honest if my items were delivered to the wrong address a lot of my neighbors are the type of people who would either keep the item or just throw it away instead of sending it back especially if they opened the packages before reading the address label. All in all with the packages that have not been received I would say I am out about $300.00 that I know of. There have also been baby shower gifts and who knows what else that were never received. This is very frustrating and of course when I have asked the mail service their policy for how to repair this they offer no solutions except they will talk to my carrier and tell them to be more careful. I thought that you had to be able to pass an exam that required being able to read when you take a job at the post office.

I am not receiving my mail and when I get it, it comes to late for response. I was summoned to serve jury duty for Sept. 30, 2008 and showed up for my duty however I was told after 4 hours of sitting there that I had been excused and a post card was mailed to me on September 22, 2008 from the court house. I never received that post card until October 3, 2008. I was out a day of work, 45 minute drive to and then 45 minute drive back from the court house. The postal master/supervisor said they had no control on the speediness of delivery.
My second complaint is that I was issued a new debt visa card from my back which was mailed on September 26, 2008 and I have still not received it. It is coming from three towns away from me, again the post master/supervisor (would never give his name) said he cannot control the speediness of delivery. He had no other answers for me. It's very frustrating. My bank is canceling my card and issuing another one, hopefully I get this one. My mail, along with several neighbors mail, gets delivered to the wrong houses. I get the mail of my neighbor three houses down and she gets mail from someone one block over from us. Why can't they hire competent delivery people and why can't anything be done about this?

Ever since moving down to Washington, Utah from Layton, Utah, my mail delivery has become a nightmare. Yesterday, a check that I wrote to the local power company barely arrived in time to keep my utilities from being shut off. I mailed the check on 10/3/2008. Did not arrive at the power company until 10/9/2008. I had to call every day to see if they had received the check. Unbeknownst to me, the power company sent me a threatening letter that arrived on 10/4/2008 to shut my power off. Do you know how far it is to drive to the utility company, probably six miles. Had I known how ridiculous the mail system has become, I would have taken the check to them. Not only these kind of things happen, but none of the free awards that I get by way of flyers have suddenly quit coming.
My mother who lives across town and has a different post office always gets her mailers. Well okay, half of them and I get the other half. It is absolutely amazing when we compare notes on who got what this week. Both of us are on fixed incomes and could use the little bonuses that used to get passed our way. I am a disabled senior citizen and live in a retirement apartment building in Pasadena, CA 91105. I do most of my shopping online and have the packages delivered. Every time I have a package, the postman leaves me a mailbox notice, instead of using the phone system in the building to ask me to come down and pick up my package. I realize it is way too much to expect him to actually bring it upstairs. However, I have been home every day this week, and my packages are still at the post office and he has made NO effort to contact me or deliver my packages. He left me another pick up notice. I think that this discrimination against the elderly and disabled and will NOT have a problem filing a complaint against this post office with an attorney. This is still America and I believe the law provides penalties for age discrimination. What can I do to get this person to deliver my mail in an appropriate manner to which I am entitled???

On 9-29-08, I mailed a letter from Ann **, Michigan to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands by Priority Mail under the representation that it would arrive in 3 to 4 days. On 10-6-08, I learned that the letter had not been delivered to its destination. I tracked the letter only to learn that it had been delivered to the Miami post office on 9-30-8 and was still in that office! I was then told that I needed to call the post office in Miami to complain and inquire as to why the letter had not been sent to the VI. Not having all day to deal with automated machines, I complained by e-mail. I was then informed on 10-7-08 that they had just sent the letter to the VI.
There are at least 3 commuter jets/day that go from Miami to San Juan and then St. Thomas, and there is no justification as to why a simple letter was held in Miami for 7 days after I had paid Priority Mail Postage for 3 to 4 day delivery. When I tried to file a complaint by e-mail and hit the Submit button, the entire submission was erased because a single required field was not filled in. I have subsequently not been able to even find the site where I tried to complain. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO EVEN COMPLAIN ABOUT THE POST OFFICE TO THE POST OFFICE.

Between December 25, 2007 and January 1, 2008, I mailed a deposit to my bank locally using the mailbox at 23rd and Fairmont Avenue 55414 and the checks never arrived. Wells Fargo informed me that a number of their pieces of mail did not arrive. My renters had to cancel and reissue checks. One set of renters mailed me checks on October 1, 2008 and today, October 7, 2008 they have still not arrived. Another group mailed their checks October 3, 2008 and today on the 7th they have not yet arrived. This is an outrage. We pay for a service and it is unreliable. They increase fares, slow down the mail, and lose a certain percentage of it. Something has to be done.

I paid for delivery confirmation receipt which was $.75 more so I could track the package. Today, I received notice that package had not arrived. I tracked it and notice that the package went from the USPS in Alhambra, CA to Bell, CA on the same day and it has been sitting there for 7 days. I spoke to Mark, Supervisor to determine if he could check on it or determine why it has been sitting in the same place for 7 days. He said that he was not able to help me and that packages could take from 2-9 days to be delivered. I told him that they told me that it would be 6 days and he disputed with me and said that he could not do anything and that after 14 days then I could call them and they would try to determine what occurred.
I asked him if he could check on the package and try to provide me with further explaining because 7 days seem a little too long for a package to be sitting in the same place. He refused and said that he would not. I asked him if I could speak to his supervisor and he said that if I wanted to complain that I had to call Consumer Affairs. I asked him for the number and he said his systems were down so he was not able to help me. Then I asked him if he could call me back when the system would come back up and he said that he could not because he could not make outgoing calls. I asked him for his last name and he said that he could not provide me for security reasons. I asked him how could I identify him so he gave me his badge number is **.
My experience with Mark was not very pleasant and he was less than helpful. He was not willing to check on the package that a customer has a consider. I was fortunate to have had a confirmation receipt but what good was that if they still do not follow up. I felt like I paid extra money to follow up a package that they need to be more responsible for and they keep increasing postage but less in return. I usually do not take the time to complain but I felt that they did not and were not willing to help me. That is a terrible situation to be in and their customer service department need to improve.

Time and time again since I recently moved here I have received packages back that state "postage due" when in fact there is NO postage due. Today is the last time! Today I received a package back stating that .33 was due. I run a business and my customers need to get their purchases in a timely fashion. I get the package today and it weighs LESS than ONE ounce. It is a non scannable package so it requires .83 as opposed to a .42 cent stamp on a card or letter. There were 2 stamps totaling .86, .03 more than what was supposed to be on there.
I called the post office and received the usual apathetic attitude and BOB, the man who I spoke to, stated that HE was the one who marked it postage due stating "because it was a parcel". It was less than a ONE OUNCE padded envelope with an eye pencil in it. I have a scale purchased from USPS and it states .08 oz. BOB argued with me about why he put postage due on a package that had MORE THAN enough postage on it and told me Roxanne was not in.... again!
They have caused my customers to receive packages late. They don't scan delivery confirmations when the packages get there and my packages that I have paid for delivery confirmations for get "LOST". I feel at this point it's a game or that they have some issue with the fact that I run a business from home... perhaps because they cannot... At any rate, they have caused myself and my customers aggravation for NO reason!

I have lived at the above address for three and a half years with my 12 year old Golden Retriever who is also a service dog. My house is surrounded by a large fence. Until last week I have never had a problem with my mail, when I had several days where no mail appeared. Then all of a sudden I had an overflowing mail box, which seemed strange. I work from home and had seen the mail truck every day and thought I probably just didn't have any mail that week. I often leave my front door open and my old, slow moving dog sits in the garden.
On Saturday (Sep 27) I collected my mail and I found a large laminated bright orange card that said the following: Dog Warning Card DANGEROUS DOG at my address. There was no description of the dog or a listing of the dog's name (as requested on the card). Instead, written in a heavy black sharpie across the top was: If door is open do not deliver mail Underneath, in print was written. Do not deliver mail if you feel endangered by an animal. Postmaster: If customer moves, immediately forward this form under separate cover to the receiving office postmaster in order to alert carrier of new dog on route. Also on the card it states: Do not deliver this form. Obviously the mail carrier accidentally left it in my mailbox. It was never intended for me to see. I don't know if this means mail service will now resume as normal as the carriers no longer have this card or if the carrier who drew this up in the first place will realize they left it behind and simply create a new one and my mail will continue to to be halted without my knowledge.
My mail is being stopped! Despite living here for over three years, this has NEVER happened. I understand that a large dog might scare mail deliverers as I'm sure they have to deal with truly dangerous dogs at all times. However: 1) My dog is NOT dangerous. She is a placid golden retriever and has been her whole life and unfortunately would actually welcome a burglar into the home if someone were to attempt to break in. I know everyone says their dog is not dangerous, but mine truly isn't.
As a result... 2)I am incensed that the Post office (or at least one particular mail carrier) has declared my dog dangerous, but has NOT informed me that they have made this determination. I would never have known this had I not accidentally received this card in my mail box.
3) Some mail carriers at times have just thrown the mail over my six foot high fence - which is not ideal - but if they think the dog is scary to them, at least I'm actually getting the mail and they don't have to enter the premises.
4) How can the post office legally withhold my mail without first informing me and/or requesting that I keep my door closed when the mail is being delivered? While this is difficult for me to do given that my office is in the back of the house and it's hard for me to know when the mail truck arrives, I'm sure something could be worked out.
5) Given that if the front door is open, someone is CLEARLY in the house (I don't actually leave my door open when I'm not home. Who does?), how can they not contact me and discuss this with me?
6) I am afraid that my sweet, loving, docile, old, doting dog has been branded Dangerous by the Post Office and something could happen to her. Surely I have some legal recourse here? Doesn't the post office have to have guidelines that require them to determine what constitutes a dangerous dog? And don't I have to be informed? Where is this mail carrier's proof that my dog is dangerous? Why have they not been in touch with me regarding this?
7) Finally - I have not gone to the post office regarding this matter as I want to know where I stand first. Clearly, if one mail carrier wrote out this card and no one else has seen it at the post office I don't want to exacerbate the situation. Again, I have lived here for three and a half years with no problems. This appears on the surface to be the whim of one mail carrier who maybe is afraid of large dogs in general, whether or not they are in fact dangerous. To halt my mail service a) without my knowledge and without telling me their basis for declaring my dog dangerous b) without informing me that this is what they are doing or working with me to find an appropriate solution does not seem right (or legal) to me. I hope someone can help me resolve this.

Surprise, after sending mail Priority Service and asking why it has yet to be delivered (With a Delievery Confirmation Receipt) I'm told it could take up to six days, they can not track, and they will do nothing until six days expire. This is not what USPS advertises. In in fact I was told that Priority is no faster than first class even though it cost 12X more. Great system. Now I no why UPS and Fedex do well.
Important mail which can not be tracked causing a lack of confidence in the recepiants belief in completing the agreed upon transaction

The following MISSING ITEM item was confirmed delivered by the USPS: Delivered According to the post office, this item was delivered at 10:07 AM on September 11, 2008 in NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA 91605. I never received this item. It was NOT delivered, because I looked for it every day since I ordered it.
I called the Laurel Canyon Annex and spoke to Arnold. He promised to speak to his carrier and call back but has not called me back. I have called him 5 times so far, and he has not been able to give me any information about my missing article. He tells me he has to speak to his carrier, but his carrier returns to the post office between 4 and 6, but Arnold goes home at 3:30!!!!!This means he can NEVER talk to his carrier!!!!! My mailbox delivery access is from the sidewalk, but I take the mail out of the mailbox from behind my locked fence. The mailbox is quite large, and must be opened with a key. No one has the key to the mailbox other than my husband and myself. My gates are always locked. I haven't received notice about any package not fitting in the mailbox. I live in a single family house, not a condo or an apartment. There is no one on my property who has ever seen that package. Both my husband and I have been expecting and looking out for it since I ordered it, and neither of us has seen it.
I paid $38.00 for this item, so if I don't receive it, I am out $38.00.

I received a package from Ann Arbor, MI which was sent out on 9-12-08, received by the St. Petersburg, FL USPS on 9-17-08. The package had a note on it that said Package received empty, stamped by the USPS. The box was minimally damaged on the bottom, but the top of the box had been cut open, all the way open. The box flaps were gone.
When I contacted the USPS, they told me that without insurance, they were not held liable. The box had obvious indications of theft. How can the USPS not be held responsible for a theft while a package is in their possession? I was receiving invaluable items that cannot be replaced. There needs to be some recourse for the actions of the USPS. Why is the shipper required to pay additional fees to ensure the safety of their package? And because the shipper neglected to pay additional for insurance, I am to suffer the consequences of the USPS's negligence?
I have lost invaluable photos that cannot be replaced as well as an autographed book that cannot be replaced. Other items were taken of less emotional value as well.

For the past 9 years since we moved from Northern California, to Camp Verde, we have had 4 of the California State Fund checks lost in space somewhere, NEVER to be found. 15 times as of today that checks have been late because of a 'holiday'. New checks have had to be reissued because THIS IS OUR INCOME. IT IS FIXED income, and our payment are budgeted out per pay period. This has become increasingly frustrating every year! I have received letters and phone calls trying to blame State Comp (Fund) or the bank, etc.
The check from State Fund are sent out 'automatically' by computer - they don't have the capability to do 'electronic deposit', so it has to come through the mail. The day the bank gets the check they deposit it. The payments begin coming in from the 18th of each month to the 6th of each month. 2 weeks ago - on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I picked up payments. EACH ENVELOPE WAS STAMPED SEPTEMBER 3rd. How is that possible. Logic would tell you that on 3 different days there would be at least one with a different 'stamp' date. THIS IS OUR INCOME!
We are extremely frustrated that this has happened so many times in these 9 years. There has not been an acceptable explanation ever given. All that has happened is that 'blame' is passed. IT IS NOT STATE FUND, and IT IS NOT THE BANK. Who does that leave? The check is out there AGAIN is space somewhere. [They] keep raising the cost of stamps, etc., and yet the system [is bad]!

Over the past saeveral years, I have not received some mail on time. Several of the same bills never make it to my home address. This has cost me hundreds if not thousands of dollars for late fees and penalties. Recently I received a call on a delinquent gas card account which ended up going to collections and against my good credit ratings. After spending hours on the phone trying to get to the bottum of this, I was told that notices were mailed and we did not respond. This situation is one I wish not to be in and would have taken care of the problem had I known, but no mail ever reached our address.
We have since moved and the problem continues. All dedtors have our correct information and state they mail out the bills on time. I am stuck at the end of this viscious circle paying the price. There must be some where for the tax paying citizens to turn to investigate and solve these costly problems. I have since put most of my bills on an electronic notification and pay plan but there are some that are unable to do so or if my computer goes down so does my payment ability. Please help with your advise or direction. My contact with the local postmaster was very useless as they claim 99.8 percent perfect rating for their office. Where do we turn?
Hundreds of dollars in late fees and penalties. Two black marks against an almost perfect credit rating that will now cost me more in increased interest as a bad credit risk.

My husband had just had surgery and I was very ill so our mail piled up a little bit in it's mailbox. There was still room since our daughter looked in the mailbox just the day before the inccident. She was too small to carry it home all by herself. The next day I hobbled out to the mailbox which is in a common area. I found a notice that stated that the carrier (it's never the same one) has put in a resident has moved for our whole family and that ALL of our mail would be sent back to the senders!
When my husband went down to the Post Office today the lady behind the window sheepishly told him that there was a new Postmaster that made a new rule. She said that the carriers were told that if it even looks like the mail has been in peoples boxes for about 10 days to put in a moved status for that mailbox and have all mail sent back to the senders! My husband asked why wasn't the mail being held at the post office and she told him the reasoning the Postmaster gave to the workers was that there was no room. I'm am SO MAD! Now all of our bills, my disability check, my husbands workers' comp. check and everything else is put on notice that we don't live at our address any longer!
Now ALL of our bills will be late, our tax bill will NOT be re-sent since the county will only send ONE, our checks will be late so we won't be able to EAT or buy gas, and when we can ever figure out who we owe since there are AO many bills it's going to take a VERY LONG time to straighten out our address problem. We don't even know who sent what!

I have had to refund the total amount of money plus shipping and handling on the items won. What else could I do? And have had to apologize profusely to my buyers and reassure them that this is not a habit of mine-sending broken merchandise.

Fortunately the business that required this info was kind enough to accept the delay, but only after several expensive long-distance calls to explain the matter.

First of all I work 8:00am to 5:00pm and the post office is closed. Second I do not feel that it is my place to pick up my mail when I have a mail box and a mail carrier who is being paid to deliver my mail, but she doesn't want to get out of her car and take two steps to put my mail in my box. I am expecting very important documents to come to my address, but it seems that since the mail carrier won't deliver my mail, its going to be imposssible for me to receive my mail.

A package was sent to me via Priority Mail. I received a Sorry we missed you! form with an intentionally truncated Article Number. I called the Rego Park Post Office phone number on the slip, got no response. I tried for days. I finally had time to go to the branch, found it is Closed for renovation from July through Oct and the partially obstructed sign instructed us to To to one of the following three locations to pick up your package.
I called the main USPS number and was told by the customer service person that without a complete Article Number, they couldn't do anything for me. I asked for her supervisor and got the same feedback. I am not happy that our Postman took the liberty to save a few nanoseconds by truncating the tracking number on my delivery slip. I am also not happy that the USPS could not offer any help, other than to visit the three nearest branches to see if my package may be there.
Unfortunately, I need to tell the sender they will be receiving the package back from USPS since they failed miserably to deliver, and since their delivery notification process is fundamentally flawed. I will ask the sender to ship using a more reliable provider (UPS or FedEx), even if it costs a few dollars more. You get what you pay for. I will also send a copy of this email to the sender so he can refuse/reverse payment for the failed delivery. I'm also going to file a formal complaint so (hopefully) the USPS management will figure out where the process broke (c'mon, sending recipients on a wild goose chase?), and fix it.

This is about the 6 time this has happened to me regarding the US Postal Service. I live in Colorado and my parents live in Florida, so for holidays or birthdays I usually send a birthday card with a couple of photos of our family. That's it, no money and no gift cards are in it. A couple of times, my mom has said that it has been ripped open when she's received it with a note saying that this was the condition it was received in from her post office. I started putting the photos in the special photo mailer envelopes and putting the extra postage on it, now she doesn't receive it at all!
This is definitely theft. My theory is that the postal worker perpetrator thinks that because it's a bit heavier that there may be a gift card or something he/she can steal. I always drop off my mail at the post office drop box and I have never had an issues when I mail my bills or receiving items from anywhere else. I will not use them anymore for personal mail!
Lost cards and photos sent to my parents -- not a lot of money but definitely will NOT rely on the USPS any longer since they are stealing and opening heavier envelopes/packages.

My self and my street neighbors are having long term problems with mail delivery from Owings Maryland at our street in Owings Md 20736. So far, they has complained six times in person to the local postmaster and I have been there three times over the past several months.
Problem... mail delivery by the street carrier which results in formal MVA vital mail and bills or credit cards never making it to our homes. It has cost me much pain and several late fees from bills that never arrive. I have also had to cancel three credit cards and this week the state of MD is now on my case for failing to get my vehicle inspected IAW state law. The more we complain, the more mail gets Lost....
I now believe the local supervisor can not resolve this problem alone and worse, complaints result in more lost mail... I have lost nearly two hundred dollars in late fees. This has to stop and only the higher ups can seem to investigate and solve this problem. Some one needs to lose their job and the Owning Md office needs a careful audit. I can offer you proof as to the losses and I do not know anyone else to call on for help. I am retired and do not need this financial loss nor the attendant pain. Help.

The first one he found open in his mailbox and returned it to me.
I have complained to my post office and they just ignore the situation. On the statement attached to the check is my ex-husbands full name and social security number which could be used for identity theft. I have to wait a week until i'm able to have the check stopped and reissued and then wait two more weeks until i would receive another one. But my main concern is identity theft.

No mail delivery/pick up since Monday 9/8/08. I live on a small road where this week they are repaving the road. We were not notified of the roadwork. There are approximately 7 or 8 houses on this road, all on one side--the other side of the street is woodland. I finally called the Harrisville P.O. today, and the girl was very curt, not letting me finish my question about the lack of service. She said the mail carrier couldn't get access to the post box, and that the supervisor was out checking on the condition of the road and to call back in an hour.
I was just checking and there is still no obstruction to my box, and still no evidence of mail delivery. I have spoken to a man on the road crew, and they have not been on the road 24/7, they have been working in stages, and at no time has there been equipment or paving materials blocking my mailbox. What happened to rain/sleet/snow? Is it illegal not to deliver mail? No one on the street has been contacted by the post office regarding interruption of service. I have already tried to get some type of answer or satisfaction from the local P.O. and also by the USPS complaint form via email. I'm furious.
We had outgoing mail on Monday, 9/8/08, and it was our mortgage payment---it was not picked up, and we haven't received any other delivery of bills that are due. We send our payments in early, but rather than to chance another lost day we decided to pay online and there is a fee associated with that.

The last time I was subjected to discrimination, I documented it (USPS receipts, etc.). IMMEDIATE PROBLEM is that there is no way to file a complaint. Inspectors only review theft/fraud issues.
Must go to another post office to avoid problems, precluded from having a P.O. Box (that was a disaster and waste of money).
