Just an interesting experience I had with the USPS. Living in the snow belt in Michigan, we get used to having to shovel the snow quite a bit. I had never had a problem with my mail being delivered until I couldn't physically go out and shovel myself. I had a broken foot; there is not much you can do with that. I had been waiting for my mail order prescriptions to come that I need for a chronic illness. But the driver kept on driving past my house and any other house that didn't have a 'clear' path to the box. I finally get a ride to the post office itself where to my horror I find out that I cannot pick up MY OWN MAIL because it didn't reach my box and in turn it's still the property of the USPS...WHAT? I paid for these prescriptions that I desperately need, and they are telling me that they have to return to sender for blocked access to deliver (something like that). I was furious. It was sitting right there, and I couldn't take it.

Show a little compassion here. Broken Foot. Four months pregnant. It could take that driver 2 minutes at least to just drive up my driveway to deliver my mail during a hardship, but OH NO, to make the customer happy, that's not what they strive to do. They would rather kill you by keeping your heart medicine from you because one person decided you didn't shovel properly or didn't have the 3 minutes of time between the snow plow trucks piling it up, and you running down clearing it out for them. It's just plain crazy.

Frustrated. I immediatley contacted Sen Debbie Stabenow's office and got a quick response and follow up. The branch postmaster got a letter, so did I, that basically said Hey lets work together here, can an attempt be made to deliver to the door when hardships are in place Exactly my point. Think about the elderly. The postmaster changed his tune, he apologized, truthfully i think he didn't believe me when I said you will be hearing from D.C. on this matter. I have never had problems again. Thank you Sen. Stabenow, I now receive my medications on time and in my mailbox!

I cannot possibly believe that a package was sent from Florida to New Hampshire first class mail and it took 18 days to get here via FIRST CLASS MAIL. If I had known that this would have happened I would have asked the sender to us a different carrier. I assumed (wrong on my part) that the UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE could have gotten this 1st class parcel here for Christmas in the 15 days that were there from the day the item was mailed. They advertise 4 to 5 day service and I get 18 day service that is about a 300% increase in time.

Perfect conditions, no problems, just that one Christmas present that could not be given and now the person receiving the gift is in Falls Church VA.

A Postal clerk refused to allow me to pick up package at the post office without PS form 3849. The form does not say that the recipient cannot claim packages without it and I have often picked up mail without the slip. Postmaster (Anderson) has given instructions to mail clerks that mail cannot be claimed without it. Apparently the postmaster is making up her own rules.

It messed up my Christmas plans with my children who do not live with me. I spent about $500.00 flying them in to visit.

The USPS attempted to deliver a package on 12-22 to my residence. They left a notice stating that the package would be available for pickup on 12-24 after 9 am and that a signature was required. I went to the post office to pick up my package on the 26th. They told me that they couldn't find it and that the delivery person probably had it. I was then given a phone number to call if I did not receive it that day. I stayed home all day and when my mail arrived but my package did not and I started calling around.

I have since come to find out that they delivered the package on Sunday and left it on my door step where it was stolen. I called the post office and asked them why they would leave a package unattended on my doorstep (when they didn't do that the day before) and they told me it wasn't their problem. The paperwork they left on the 1st day tells me otherwise. I filed a complaint with the 800 number listed on their website and once again waited around most of the day only to call back and find out that the complaint had been closed. They refer the complaint back to the original office to handle and they closed it with no resolution

I mailed a package PRIORITY MAIL with DELIVERY RECEIPT on DEC 17, and as of today, 12/23/07, 8 p.m., can't get a response from anyone at USPS and keep going in circles trying to submit information on a number of their forms. There is no clear-cut way to actually get help. What happened to putting tracers on lost packages? I see no value added in buying a delivery receipt except IF it is delivered, then you get date and time. I'm becoming very upset; all I want is someone to say that they will check into it instead of saying: "Well, it's not in our system." Can you help me or know of someone who can? Thanks for your help.

My son has a mental illness, and this is the one gift that he waits for every year. It also is very upsetting to me, his mother.

GUARANTEED NEXT DAY DELIVERY didn't arrive as guaranteed. No promised delivery time could be given by customer service! I had submitted an express, next day delivery item on Friday at 10:38 so the item could be delivered on Saturday before noon. The package had car keys for my brother to use the car on Saturday and Sunday. Since the package didn't arrive he is greatly disappointed, as well as myself. I called customer service, and they have no additional info as to what the status is other than mis-send.

Since I paid all the money for GUARANTEED NEXT DAY DELIVERY, I need an answer as to where my package is and when it will be delivered. My brother had to delay his schedule and obligations since he could not drive the car today.

Large mail carts were left unsecured by employees. The winds over the weekend caused them to travel downhill across a parking lot to the K-Mart where they impacted our auto, doing damage. Initially they were cooperative, but now are trying to block any reasonable effort to complete a claim to get the car repaired. They will not entertain anything. No compensation for loss of use, and 4 to 8 weeks after it is approved to issue a check!

The car is not safe to operate in current condition. My son uses the car for transportation to go to school at Temple University, and to work part time at the K-Mart where the incident took place.

I have tried to get through to the Postal Customer Service to get to the bottom of this problem. But due to our Modern Technology I am not allowed to speak to a person Because The Package Is Still On It's Way To It's Destination is what the recording says. How many more times will this package be sent all over the country? Money can not replace the value of this Christmas present addressed to my 87 year old dad - I put in many, many hours on making his present because it comes from my heart. It is over 9 days now. I want to know what the problem is. I either want it returned to myself or preferably, I want this package delivered to where it should have been delivered 8 days ago. The package was supposed to be delivered to Santa Rosa, CA 95401. This is their children's Christmas gift. I kept calling the Post Office. I have 2 reference numbers they gave me after both calls. Tonight I tracked this package on both these numbers and the Delivery confirmationv number and the insurance number. They delivered it alright, To San Jose (zip 95124) on Dec 18th @ 1:12. I have no idea about the signature required for the insurance, BUT I do wonder how they managed to deliver this item to a different city with a different zipcode.

All my papers, even the ones printed at the Post Office, say this package was to be delivered to Santa ROSA 95401. Now these people are furious at me. I have ruined their Christmas. I will have to refund their money and file a complaint, which will take forever to get my money back, and I need my money!

I asked if there was anyway to check the status of the check. She stated no. I was told by the attendant that my mail would arrive in 3 days. She offered me insurance stating that it would cover damaged items. I did not have any glass, so I declined. I did not realize that without insurance it would not cover a lost package. She never said that. Now it has been 10 days and my package has still not arrived. The box contained close to 500 dollars worth of items. These are Christmas presents I was sending to my niece and nephew. I also packed all the receipts to the items and placed them in a zip lock bag inside the box. This was incase some of the items were the wrong size, they could be exchanged. The receipts contain my husband's name and credit card number. This is his personal information! I want to know where my package is and nobody seems to know. I believe my mail was stolen by a postal employee. Is there anything I can do about this? My post office is of no help to me. They have that your just a needle in a haystack attitude. On Monday, Dec. 10th I was to receive a package in the mail. When I checked its status online, it said that the package was delivered at 2:20 pm. When I checked the mailbox there was no mail. On Tues. Dec. 11, I checked the mailbox again just in case it was left after hours. No package. I went over to the post office to find out where my package was. The postmaster Mr. Tucker said that when the carrier (whose name is Pam) came in he would talk to her and call me by 12:00 pm on Wed., Dec. 12th, to let me know what was going on. Didn't hear from Mr. Tucker. Carrier Pam came to the office to have me sign for some certified mail. I asked her if my package was located yet and she saw a box sitting on the office floor and said, "There is your package opened up." I told her no it wasn't. That package came by way of Fed-ex. Still again she said the package was delivered. Not! Went back to post office on Dec. 12th to talk to Mr. Tucker. I told him about what went on in my office, and he had an "I don't care attitude". He took me back to his office and wrote down what had happened and told me he would talk to her and get back to me.

Thurs. Dec. 13th, no call from Mr. Tucker. I once again went over to the post office and requested that I be refunded for the lost package that I never received. I did receive my refund but my complaint is the unprofessionalism on behalf of Mr. Tucker and carrier Pam. She lied about the whole situation, and he took her side on the whole ordeal. He never contacted me when he said he would, and his attitude should not be allowed in a place of business. And still I am wondering where my package ended up? I don't know if this complaint will make it anywhere or if anything will be done, but I hope it will help for the sake of future customers.

Ever since I have been mailing tax filings, I have always taken them to the post office on the final day to have them manually postmarked. This service was recently denied in deference to a having to pay a $1.05 per item charge for having it done. I feel this fee is both excessive and unwarranted. It is just another example of how the monopoly that is the USPS allows them to take advantage of the consuming public. A manually affixed postmark cancellation should not cost any more than an automated one.

There are no damages per se, however, I feel the public is being forced to pay an excessive and unwarranted fee for services that they have a right to expect by already having placed a postage stamp on their letter.

Today the neighbor up the street brought us our mail that was delivered to them yesterday. The carrier has left packages on top of the mailbox when it wouldn't fit inside. The other day the carrier dropped a package (I saw it from the window) clearly stamped by the post office: Fragile, handle with care--between our doors--and broke the contents. I moved 4 months ago and accidentally filed a family change of address instead of individual. A couple of weeks later I realized this when I started receiving my parents' mail. I called USPS, and they told me to cancel the order and file as an individual, so I did. Since then my parents and I have been unable to get our mail. I have made numerous calls to USPS, as well as gone into the local post office and spoke with the supervisor who assured me they would solve the problem. All they can tell me is that our mail is in a perpetual loop, and is being forwarded back and forth between my new and old address, without being delivered to either.

I have not been receiving any of my bills, and thus have been having difficulty paying them on time, which I am sure is affecting my credit. More important is the fact that my electricity almost got shut off for the same reason. Luckily I had called them to find out about my bill, when I was informed it was to be shut off in the next couple of days because of nonpayment. Thankfully they were understanding of my situation and kept it on. I am hoping you can give me some information as to what kind of legal action can be taken, since it appears to be the only way left to resolve this issue.

We have lived at this residence for a little over a year now and have recently had problems receiving our mail. I have called on several occasions to find out why they are not delivering certain pieces of mail. The address that is on the mail that is being sent back is correct. Recently they sent my husband's unemployment check back, and when we questioned why they did it, they said it was a system error. I filed a couple of complaints with the U.S. Postal Service customer service dept., but the investigation came up empty. No one can explain why they keep sending our mail back. First the mailman tried to say that his substitute sent it back, but just last week 12/1/07, he sent back another one of my husband's unemployment checks.

We feel that our mailman is withholding our mail and/or sending it back because we complained about him. My husband has been receiving mail from the unemployment dept. for approx. 6 months now, on and off, and we have NEVER had any problems. The unemployment office resent the check on 12/8/07 and it ALWAYS takes 2 days but once again, he did not get his check today. We are very frustrated, and the delay of our mail is causing us major problems, especially my husband's checks. He has been unemployed for over 1 year and we desperately rely on his unemployment check. The delay also causes a domino effect because if the check is late then his next claim is late, and it seems to never end because of the constant delay and/or non-delivery of our important mail. Also several of my credit card statements are being sent back as well as my son's school documents. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP! The United States Postal Service of Fishers, IN is building a legacy of poor service, customer mistreatment, and complete incompetence. In the last month alone, one priority mail package I shipped arrived 20 days late. The other priority mail package never arrived. Of course I have absolutely no recourse because, according to the manager there, "Since you didn't buy our insurance, there's nothing we can do for you". In the past, I have experienced even worse treatment when trying to locate extremely late or lost mail. Some notable quotes from the fine staff there include: your mail will arrive when it gets there and stop calling us; and, there's nothing we can do (this occurred after being kept on hold for 20 minutes and eventually disconnected). On a more creepy note, one postal service worker continually asked of one of my packages: Is that a computer in there? What kind is it? Is it a new one?

When a manager is requested, its usually more of the same: Sir, we have no way of knowing when your mail will arrive, or blame is made on the other post office--They should have sent it to us by now. We always have problems with them. Attempting to track down lost mail usually yields the following response: If it doesn't arrive in 30 days, you can request an investigation. Of course when an investigation is initiated, it is on a: don't call us, we'll call you, basis. I have never heard anything back on my lost packages. These scenarios are just a fraction of the customer mistreatment which also includes numerous hang ups, misdirects, rude or hurried responses, re-directed blame and complete and utter lack of accountability.

am not (by far) the only one who has encountered these problems. I really feel that they have absolutely no responsibility to there customers and hide behind governmental bureaucracy whenever it's convenient. Due to their constant incompetence, I no longer use USPS for ANY outgoing shipments. It's just a shame I can't get all of my incoming mail through a reliable, responsible carrier. Maybe someday, these arrogant and lazy civil servants will be ostracized, and the previously solid reputation of the United States Postal Service will be restored.

So I mail my payments to my creditors at least one week before they are due, and that should be sufficient, right? The actual delivery times of up to 10 days has resulted in past due fees on several accounts (more than $250 in total). A reasonable expectation of stated services seems to be too much for the Post Office. I can hardly wait for my creditors jack up my interest rates because of late payments. I ordered something for a family member for Christmas; the company did not allow PO Boxes for shipping so I gave my home address. I figured I would get a note or I could pick up the package at the local post office when it arrived since I did not have a mailbox outside my home. I tracked the package and found that it had been sent to the local post office the evening before. I called the post office, gave them the tracking number, and the woman typed it in. Moments later she informed me that because I did not have a mailbox outside my home the package had been marked undeliverable and was going to be sent back. I asked why can I not just pick it up? The woman was very rude and continued to tell me that I would not be allowed to pick it up, and it was being sent back that evening! It had only been there for a number of hours! If I am not mistaken, it is a Federal offense to interfere with the delivery of mail, and it is not illegal in any way to not have a mailbox at home!

I was very upset and had to call the company who sent it to me. They were also very appalled and will work with me to get my shipment back! That's service! My package that I had waited on for weeks has now been sent back. Who knows how long it is going to take to get it back?

The mailman for my address held my mail, and all of my neighbor's mail, for 4 days this week. I live in a condo subdivision where there is a mailbox for about 20 residents. The reason for holding the mail is that he said there was a car parked in front of the mailbox. I have pictures to show that there was plenty of room for him to access the mailbox. The curb is painted yellow and no one should park there. The car parked there was ticketed by the Fairfax County Police - but remained parked there. The Sequoyah Homeowners Association 703-780-8225 - will NOT intervene because the car is parked on a public street. Additionally, they will not post a No Parking sign. They are going to send out a newsletter to residents next month - which does NOTHING to help NOW! Meanwhile, we are being deprived of access to our mail!

When the car that was parked there for 4 days moved, another parked there right away. I called the police and they ticketed that car too. I will continue to call the police to ticket the cars - but as long as there is a car there - WE WILL NOT GET OUR MAIL! I called the Post Office - 703-704-5680 -and spoke to a supervisor. Then I went to the post office to see the supervisor. After explaining the urgency of some of my expected mail, the supervisor agreed to follow me to my neighborhood to find the mailman and get my mail. However, he said that the mail will continue to be HELD and NOT DELIVERED on EACH DAY in which there is a car in front of the mail box! I explained that we are being deprived of our mail for a reason and a circumstance which is COMPLETELY OUT OF OUR CONTROL!

I need ALL of my mail. It is my bills and legal documents pertaining to the care of my mother, and checks - it is ALWAYS something IMPORTANT to conducting personal business in my life and the life of my elderly mother! It is UNBLIEVABLE that I was denied access to my mail and am being told that IT WILL CONTINUE! I did call the post office today and spoke to a different supervisor and explained 3 pieces of mail that were extremely URGENT in regards to my mother's care, and he did get these pieces of mail and got them to me. However, I cannot spend this amount of time and effort each day to get my mail!

On 10-30-07, I signed up for Premium Forwarding Service so that my mail could be sent from my old address in LA to the new one in LV. I paid $81.70 for six weeks of service. According to the USPS forms, the mail is to be sent by priority mail each Wednesday. The first shipment should have been mailed on 11-07-07. It wasn't. When I had received no mail by 11-13-07, I emailed the USPS asking how to activate the service I had paid for. I was told that someone from the 'home post office' would contact me by the end of the next business day. Nobody did. So, I made the 600 mile round trip to LA, and went to the nearby post office where I had filed the request for the PFS. A very helpful clerk informed me that the form had been sent to the Julian Dixon branch because they handled the service for my zipcode. She then proceeded to call that branch, get the supervisor on the line, a Ms. Foster, who promised me that she would go to the old address, collect my misdelivered mail and send it to my new address. A week later, I still hadn't received any mail, so I sent another email, and once again I was told someone would contact me by the end of the next business day. Nobody did. A full month has gone by with no mail, and no explanation or resolution of the problem.

The consequence of the failure to provide the service is that my credit card statements, my bank statements and other mail that can be used to steal a person's money and identity are lost or already in the hands of people I don't know. My identity was stolen once before at the old residence when someone used a renewal credit card that was sent to me, and either placed in the wrong mailbox or stolen out of mine. I believe that person still lives in the building, and may now have a motherload of information that he or she can use.

It was sent Express Mail ($30.50) with 6 Day delivery. I have received no resolution since September 13, 2007, which is when the package was sent. I received the box back two days later with no phone inside. When I went back to the Parkmoor Post Office, Carmalita confirmed that the package was never shipped and did not leave the Main Post Office. It's obvious that one of your employees stole my package and I need to be re-imbursed. I have submitted my General Claim PS FOrm 2855 to Carmalita (Supervisor) at the Parkmoor Post Office. It has been signed by me on 10/2/07. I will be sending a letter as well. Please issue a full refund of $630.50 with shipping to me.

I lost $635.50 because my iPhone was never mailed out from the Parkmoor Post Office and was stolen on location. I have all the documentation of my delivery and a signed confirmation from the Recipient.

We have a lot of mail (including packages) delivered to us. Since we moved here, I have had more of my own mail delivered to other addresses and am getting other people's mail. Sometimes we get mail from another city! Recently I was waiting for an important package so I stayed home on the day that, according to the Delivery Confirmation, would arrive! It arrived all right, to someone else's address! When I checked the Delivery Confirmation that night it showed that it was delivered! WRONG: I was home and in the front yard tidying up; no mail carrier brought me anything, so how can they say it was delivered?

I called their ASK USPS number and finally got a real person on the phone who opened a claim for me. I get a call from the local post office 2 days later, congratulating me on successfully getting my package! I told her the reason why I opened the claim is because I did not get the package. I asked her to talk the driver and find out where my package was delivered. She said she will have to call me back and she did earlier this morning. She told me she is 100% confident that the carrier delivered my package to my address (even though I claimed that not only I was home but in my front yard cleaning up) and that she is closing this claim. Obviously the carrier delivered it elsewhere and did not want to give up the real address it was delivered to and face that he was wrong! When I lived in Canada, we never had such problems!

After discussing other aspects of USPS' bad service, I have no package and cannot get my money back from because according to the delivery confirmation it was delivered--doesn't matter where it was delivered, just that it was.

The urgency of reaching my payroll company so the young man could receive his missing pay tomorrow caused me to use my cell phone while in line. When my turn came for the postman to help me, he ignored me and asked the lady behind me to come forward next. I said excuse me, but I was next. His comment to me was : Too bad, but I'm not competing with a cell phone. He was very rude! and I told him so. His opinion about me using my cell phone should not have any bearing on whether he refuses to service my mailing needs. I immediately hung up my cell phone and had to wait for him to wait on others again.

I was not holding up anyone behind me. Then, he tells me after I waited in line again, my package could not be delivered overnight. So then I went over to fill out a priority mail envelope and by then it was 5:00. No other customers were left but me, and he ignored me and walked around behind the shelving for a spell, and I had to call him "Hey you" because his name tag was not on and his name plate was hidden behind the things on the counter. By this time I had NO trust left in mailing anything at this post office. I asked for his name, and that was when he pulled out his name plate to show me. I have never been treated so badly in public by a public servant in my life. I do not usually use this particular post office and I never will again after this. A few days later I get an email from my customer that the Brandon, SD Post office is requiring postage due in the amount $39.14, and she's furious. I've been running my part-time business now for over two years and mail things all the time. I was completely puzzled. I called the Postmaster in MN to see if she knew anything, and she was unaware of why they would be requesting additional postage. Next I called the SD location and they informed me that the package was over-sized and should not have gone Priority, so there was additional postage due. I couldn't believe that they were making this my fault. I told them I paid what I was told to pay and just expected that they deliver the package to my customer for the service that I paid for. Next I called the 800-275-8777 number and was told that SD would need to send the package back to MN; if it was still correct they could send it back to SD and should deliver the package. In the meantime, the package was being held by the postmaster in SD who would not allow even the return of the package until the additional postage was paid. There was NO WAY OUT but to pay the additional fee--and it wasn't my fault.

I spent over 4 hours of conversations trying to resolve the issue. My customer is very upset that they drove to pick up the product and now have to drive back and pick it up again. I was forced to pay $58.39 for a package that should have only cost me $39.24 if I'd shipped it UPS. I would have never shipped the item USPS if I was originally told the correct fee.

If this happens occasionally, I do not complain, but if it happens a lot, I call the post office and complain. It has been happening with a lot of frequency lately. I called the local post office on Monday and complained. On Tuesday, the mail still was not delivered to where it was addressed. I then called the local post office and spoke with the post master who identified himself as Tom. His reply to my complaint was: If it happens again, let me know. I thought that was a very unsatisfactory response so I called the 800 number not realizing the complaint would go directly to the local post office. Today, the underling (I cannot remember his name) showed up at the office and began to explain to me why they were not going to deliver to this floor anymore. Part of what he said was they come up here and all of the offices are never open so they then have to go to the bank; they need consistency, etc. They have to deliver mail to the bank anyway. It was clearly a waste of my time to talk to this man so I asked for a copy of the policies. He said they do not have written policies; each post office just does what it wants to. I see the commercials on television advertising the wonderful service the U. S. Postal Service provides. Why do we not have this wonderful service in Pendleton, Oregon? I kept checking online to track and confirm, but all that was stated was: item accepted on the date and place mailed. I called USPS and "Tammy" told me that the item may be lost because it was never delivered. I was told to go to the post office, and they should be able to resend it at no extra charge or refund me my money. At the post office one of the cashiers said I need to wait at least fifteen days before they could do anything, I asked to speak to a supervisor who informed me that there was nothing she could do and to come back in 30 days. This was a time-sensitive package, and it has been two weeks now. The package was to be delivered in 2-3 days but now I must wait 30 more days before they might decide to do something.

Now that I missed the deadline my credit may be destroyed by their lack of concern and may take longer to qualify for my house.

I went to the post office to mail out two envelopes priority mail on 10/13/07. A clerk had just finished with another customer so I waited until I thought she was ready. She looked at me and I thought she was ready. I approached her window and she rudely said "I did not call anybody!". Then she called the gentleman who was behind me to her window who wanted a passport. She then told me to go back to the line. I'm 41 years old with a master's degree who work in the financial securities industry. I was very upset but went back to the line until the other employee called me. Had I treated a client or shareholder the way the first clerk did, I would be reprimanded and possibly fired.

Besides her rude behavior and my blood pressure being raised, I had to wait longer than necessary.

I haven't received my last two paychecks. The first check is almost 3 weeks late now.

Without the card, I can't work legally. The USCIS officer said they sent the card on July 23, but until now I didn't receive anything! The officer said USCIS will not re-send me another EAD card. If I need the EAD card, I have to apply again--which means 350 dollars and another three-month waiting. I went to the post office and asked about my EAD card mail. The clerk said they were not responsible for the lost mail because USCIS sent it as a regular mail. This is not the first time USPS lost my mail. They lost my blockbuster DVD also.

USPS lost my EAD card, which cost me $186.15 and three-month waitting for applying. And its seems that I have to apply for it again, which means $350 and another three-month waiting. This includes both the mail forwarded from my Boston address, and the mail addressed directly to my new San Francisco address. This has also included a lot of financial mail (bank statements, credit card statements, personal checks from a tenant to whom I am renting the apartment in Boston), tax-related mail and some important documents. Some of this mail has been returned to senders, and some of it has been apparently delivered to somebody else (for example, in the lobby of my apartment building in San Francisco, there is a large heap of junk mail and misdelivered mail. In this heap, with a delay of several weeks, I recently found my fairly substantial federal tax refund check).

I complained about this to the local USPS supervisor, without any result. What else can I do to have my mail delivered to me? I wish to emphasize once again: misdelivery or loss of my mail, or returning to sender (despite correct address) has not happened occasionally, but has been happening practically every day.

Major potential for identity theft, and financial theft (my financial documents and tax-related documents, with my social security number and various other identifying information, are apparetnly being delivered to somebody else); potential for loss of various kinds of important mail.

I explained that the sender is a truck driver who works throughout the western states and only uses his Alaska address for mail. They still made me pay the complete postage, under threat of returning the package to the sender, despite the fact that they couldn't prove that there was anything wrong with the postage applied.

The other four items needed to reported as missing to the sender and a tracking number obtained only to discover that the items had been at our po for over two weeks. The postal employees denied that the item was present at their location until the tracking number on an arrival notice was shown them at which times our merchandise was found in back. The only time that notification was given me by the PO, I took the yellow form to the counter and was then told that it was a mistake I had no package even after explaining that I was waiting on a delivery. Again the item did not appear until I went forward with a tracking order showing that the item was in PO.

The delay in recite of our merchandise required the duplicate purchase of these items which themselves were lost in the system thus delaying the fulfillment of our orders thus eroding the public confidence in our ability to complete our transactions in a timely manner.

Consequently, we started receiving mail of her other family members at our new address. We submitted a letter requesting correction on March 14, 2005. USPS did not implement this correction request promptly and we continued to receive all the mail of my wife's brothers, parents and sisters-in-law at our new address.

After more requests to the local post office at 485 Santa Clara St, Vallejo, CA 94590, and talks with their Customer Service fell on deaf ears, I finally had a talk with a Supervisor at the Post Office on May 5, 2005, who then actually made the correction some days later. Thereafter, a good part of the mail of my wife’s relatives was not forwarded to our address but was delivered to the right address. However, to this date, we continue receiving letters addressed to my wife’s brothers, parents etc., at our address. Most of this mail is junk mail or advertising material, but occasionally it is not junk mail.

Today morning I phoned 1-800-ASK–USPS, and was informed that this junk and other mail, which is not in my name or my wife’s name, has to be delivered to our address as advertisers have paid for it. The remedy insisted by the representative of USPS is that my wife should file one more correction request. This Customer Service representative was impatient and snappish, and not adequately understanding of the troublesome time we have had over this issue since more than a year. The main issue for which we are seeking a remedy is that all the mail, which is meant for my wife’s brothers, parents etc., should not be delivered to our address but to their address.

I have had a complaint in to the local postal service since December 2005. It seems my mail is being sent back and or being delivered to another address. Names are clearly marked on this 1 family house and still not getting mail. What am I to do? I have called my local Revere office to no avail.

I have missed payments on all my bills and have not received my social security and payroll check. Just today my neighbor next door delivered my husbands paycheck. We are both elderly and have been made sick of the way we have been treated. I have called my local consumer affairs office to place a complaint. Well she told me she would mail out the complaint form 2 weeks ago. I have still not received that.

January the papers mailed from the car dealer were lost and had to be sent overnight (non-USPS) to get my registration completed. We now pay our bills online to avoid the lost checks. What can be done about this?

She rattled off 3 ways and then looked at me. I told her I didn't quite understand. She rattled them off quickly again. Again I told her I didn't understand. For a 3rd time she rattled them off. Then a lady in line called out You stupid old lady, she told you already! At which point another worker came out, she seemed drugged, as she spoke so muffled and slowly I couldn't understand her either. The first worker is now screaming, I kid you not, screaming, that she told me three times. It was so upsetting and stressful I chose the first way she suggested to send my letter. It cost way too much and my daughter had to go to her Post Office in order to pick it up 2 days after it was suppose to be delivered.

I am a senior citizen and do have trouble understanding things as quickly as I used to, but that doesn't equate stupidity. It was very stressful and upsetting to be treated in such a disrespectful and outright nasty way. I went home very upset and angry - high blood pressure was raging. I spent more money than I could afford and my daughter was inconvenienced. And this is my local PO, so I have to use them again!

I have asked for delivery confirmation. The status of the item shows Delivered at 9:40 am on March 31, 2006 in JAMAICA, NY 11432; however, after contacting the recipient, I found that she never received the package. On further investigation, it was revealed that the USPS mailman who was delivering packages on that very day, showed a highly irresponsible behavior in his delivery mode.

That USPS staff did not intimate the recipient about the package when he came to deliver the package. He dropped the package outside the r recipient’s apartment door, and left NO note. He scanned the package as delivered without actually delivering the package to the recipient in proper way. The result is that the package is still missing. I have lost a check of $1257. I later requested my bank for stop payment but incurred a charge of $40.00 for this service. When I contacted the local USPS Post Office in Jamaica, NY and complaint about this irresponsible behavior and negligence on part of their staff, I received no assistance from them. We haven’t arrived at any settlement yet I have undergone a good amount of financial loss and mental stress in this seemingly trivial affair.

I have maintained the same post office box at this USPS substation continuously since 1986. The service at this substation has deteriorated to the point that it is no longer worth maintaining a box there. After a very serious situation about a Hold Mail form which I filled out and personally handed to a person at the window of this very station, this substation actually kept the Held Mail in a box beneath my P.O. Box for 6 weeks after the expiration of my Hold Mail order. This caused absolute chaos and significant business disruption to me personally and to my company.

One of the assistant mgrs. of this substation finally looked in the box sitting beneath my po box (after numerous complaints from me and statements by the postal people that no mail was lost or being withheld)5 weeks after the expiration of my form and handed me 3 bundles of rubber-banded mail with postmarks from mid August, 2005. This was in September, 2005. There is an average of 1-2 items of mail put in my mailbox every week that is properly addressed to another mailbox.

I write on each delivered to wrong PO box and give them back to the PO. I have no idea if they put them in the correct box or throw them away to destroy the evidence. In yesterday's mail, March 27, 2006, I received in my po box -- for the first time -- the following: my original bill from SBC Corp bearing a billing date of September 19, 2005; a written confirmation of a class my daughter enrolled in for July, 2005, which card has a ppostmark of July 5, 2005; an a monthly statement from Fidelity Investments for the period January 1-31, 2006.

Except for yesterday's mail, I have either filed a formal complaint with USPS and/or met with the station manager, evidence in hand. Basically the response we goofed, we'll try to do better. Meanwhile, postage rates increased by 10% with if anything a deterioration in service. The USPS is incredibly inefficient and the average citizen is finally realizing this. Abolish the post office and bring in private enterprise. Personally, I'm putting everything online and asking all clients to FAX materials to me or scan them in online. I cannot afford to run a business with a 3rd world postal system.

I own a winery in Maine and am trying to ship some wine on behalf of a local customer to his parents in the Netherlands.

Before even trying to use USPS to mail wine I checked their website to see if it was possible. I know the USPS will not send wine within the US but thought I might be able to ship overseas.

On the USPS website is Publication 52: Hazardous, Restricted and Perishible. Section 636 exempts certain items otherwise restricted, including alcohol, if the country to which it is sent does not prohibit importation. The International Mail Manual listed the Netherlands as a country that did not prohibit the importation of alcohol.

So I filled out the Customs forms online and put the package together. When I arrived at the Post Office I was told the Postal Service does not ship wine at all. I asked to see that in writing and was told they would have to investigate. I left my number and asked them to phone me when I had an answer. They phoned a couple hours later to say they had checked with the main Post Office and repeated that they would not ship wine. I asked them to explain the discrepancy between the answer they gave me and what was posted on the USPS website. They could not explain.

Next I emailed the same question on the USPS website. A couple hours later (I admit, they are prompt) I got a response. Here is the thread:

Customer (David) My local Post Office will not ship a package containing wine for me. I understand wine is a restricted material listed in DMM C024.7.0 through C024.20.0, however Publication 52 section 636 says it can be mailed internationally if it is not prohibited in that countys IMM. I want to ship to the Netherlands and when I check the IMM for the Netherlands, there is no restriction for wine. My postmaster says wine cannot be shipped under any circumstances. Can you explain the discrepency?

    ---

Thank you David, for visiting our website. There are no restriction for wine to be received by the Netherlands customs dept. The only way for you to send wine is if you do a carry-on you in flight. If we can be of assistance to you in the future, please dont hesitate to contact us. Thank you for using the United States Postal Service. William

On the one hand, they acknowledge that there is no reason wine can't be sent to the Netherlands, but imply I must deliver it myself.

I decided to call Nortex, the company who sets up the 911 systems, and asked them if they could help. When I received the correct address I notified the post office. I have been using this as my address for a while and recently received a startling telephone call. MY bill had been returned saying there was no such address. This in turn almost caused a disruption in my service.
I notified the company that it was the correct address and to please resend. I then went to my local post office and asked what happened. I was informed that they were not going to use the address and I needed to use RR1, Box 3. He also said that he didn't know where I had received the address I had been using. Again I have been receiving mail at the address for a while. I informed him that was the address and where I had received the information.

He also said he knew the name on the mail in question and that they did not reside at said address, so he returned the mail. It seems to me that if I have certain arrangements made, that are of no business to the man at the post office, it is his job to deliver the mail. Not take it upon himself to decide whose mail he will deliver and whose mail he does not. Now he is writing on every piece of mail RR1 Box 3. I have a 911 physical address and that is where he needs to deliver the mail. If I am wrong and this man is not violating his authority, please correct me.

This is my daughters first year in college and she was very sad that she wouldn't be home to celebrate her 18th birthday. I told her not to worry, I planned to send to her a "birthday in a box".

In box number one, I put all the party essentials such as balloons, a cake, napkins, plates, etc. In box number two, I sent 18 gifts. I went to the post office on Monday, Nov. 15th and spoke with the clerk regarding the importance of the gifts arriving Friday, November 19th. I was assured that if I sent the packages Priorty mail, it would get there on time. So, I paid an extra $14.95 per box plus cost of insurance, and tracking fee.

On Thursday, My daughter received box number two. So, I told her to be patient, maybe the gift box would arrive on Friday. She received nothing. Saturday morning I called the USPS customer service and was told that I paid for delivery confirmation not tracking, and I couldn't be helped. Because they don't consider a package lost until 14 days.

I was furious. I asked the young lady what was the difference between 2-3 day delivery and regular ground delivery? She just said sorry. I then told her one box was delivered, so what happened to the other. She just said that maybe their was not enough room on the truck so hopefully, it would be delivered on Monday, November 22nd. As the day progressed I grew madder and madder. I called USPS again, asking could someone tell me where my package was. This time a young man told me it was en route. I asked him was I to get a refund of some sort since my package was not delivered on time. He said no, because it was not a guaranteed service.

I told him that the service is misleading because the public believes what is written by the USPS that they are paying extra so that their mail is going to be delivered in 2-3 days, not 2-14 days. He apologized and stated that 96% of priority mail service is delivered in 2-3 days and maybe the package would me delivered on Monday. I asked since he knew my package is in transit, why couldn't he say, it will be delivered on Monday.

Now the problem is, my daughter is returning home for the holidays on Monday. So, it's a great chance that her shipment will arrive when she's away from school. And, a greater chance of someone taking it. What other business could charge you extra for a service and then not provide that service and the customer just has to suck it up!

So far, I was cheated out of my money, and my daughter was emotionally upset. I am really feeling that in my heart that my box may come up missing. I don't see why I have to wait 14 days before there is an investigation.

I said, yes that's my first name but most people address me by my middle name.

He had a weird look on his face and said, "I'm not going to tell you what I heard about you!" I said, what? He wouldn't tell me. He just went on and processed my packages as if he never said it! The post office only has about 3 or 4 workers. That man and I were the only people in the front when he said that to me. That shows me for sure he or someone in the post office there is the one opening my personal mail and gossiping about my personal life! I want it stopped!

There are only approx. 149 homes in the Village with no home delivery available. We are REQUIRED to use PO boxes and pick up our mail. We never had mail delivery and that is the best way to keep neighbors in touch meeting daily while picking up their mail.

We are having bills, bank statements, letters, packages, RETURNED to sender for not using the PO Box numbers. Send a letter to me. at the legal address posted. The post office will not give you my PO Box number. Your letter will be returned! Now how will you get the letter to me? Go into address search in the USPS site? Sure that will work. Wrong! Our PO Box numbers are not posted by the postal service. Our postmaster is returning ALL mail.
I live in this village and can't even send a letter to the mayor or Crosswicks? WHY YOU ASK? I only know his address -- 11 Buttonwood St. Crosswicks, NJ 08515. OUR POSTMASTER will NOT put this letter in Mr. Kelly's PO box because the PO Box number is not written on the envelope. And how do I get this PO Box? Get ready for this one. I HAVE to contact the Kelly's and get their proper mailing address. Someone needs to get on this. This can't be legal to not deliver mail because the PO Box number is not in the address. And there is No PLACE to get this PO Box number other then from the person you are trying to contact.
The new postmaster said he said it is time to change. I told him to get the hell out as our postmaster would be the best change!

I recently moved into a new home and put a forwarding address request into the Cumming GA post office. I put the request in at least 2 weeks before my move. After I moved into my new home, I did not receive mail at my new address for at least 10 days, so at that time my mail was 2 weeks plus 10 days past due. On numerous occasions I called the Cumming post office only to be told that it was out of their hands and all mail is sent to Marietta. I then proceeded to call the Marietta center and just got the run around. This all took place in February.
Well now since my new address is Suwanee, I have been getting so much mail that does not belong to me, and the addresses are not even close to mine. One day I got 8 pieces of wrong mail, 6 pieces for one address and 2 pieces for another address. So my question to the Suwanee post office was where is my mail being delivered. The response I received was not what I wanted to hear, oh well we have people that dont even speak the language so it is hard to communicate the address to them. What kind of an answer was that?

On Jun 30, 04 I contaced my Post Office manager because my military checks were being sent back because they said there had been a change of address. I explained that I had been living at this address since Oct 03. I had been wondering why I had not been getting my mail and the few peices I had gotten had been sent to my old address and resent back here. The important bills such as my electric bill, car payment etc. were never received. My car insurance company had also called asking for my new address because their correspondence had been sent back. It seemed as if some mail was sent back and other mail just disappeared.

I faxed Mr. Jacobs pieces of mail that I had received back where someone had handwritten the change. Mr. Jacobs said he would let me know what happened. As of Jul 13, 04 I had not heard from him so I called back. I called back at 1:19pm and was informed by one of the workers that he was on vacation and had not passed any information on. On the 14th of July I called the 800 number for complaints and spoke to Ms. Hasif. Also I faxed her the same information. She told me that she didn't know what the problem was and apparently I had put in a change of address or the change would not have happened. When I explained again that I did not put in the change she said that I had to have put it in because all change of addresses are given to the carrier. Needless to say, I am upset because this issue has never been resolved and I am still having problems.

She said the only thing I could do would be to resubmit a change of address which makes no sense since I have been here almost a full year and never had problems with my mail until June. On the 24th of July I received a peach colored card in my mailbox stating that I had a very large envelope that could not be delivered and for me to call and schedule for redelivery. I called on the 26th of July at 10:18am and arranged to have it redelivered on the 31st of July. As of today (Jul 31st) the item was not redelivered. I called the 800 number to let them know and this time I was given a number for my complaint and was told that it would be redelivered monday with a new confirmation number. I am at my wits end trying to figure out who is messing with my mail.

My unit is on alert to be possibly sent to Iraq and I cannot leave knowing someone is messing with my mail.

I live with an elderly infirm parent and she needs to have her mail delivered directly to her door. She has a small mail drop at her front door. I have a Post Office Box at the downtown Post Office. Often I need to be away from home. Therefore, it is essential that Mom gets her mail.

Last summer in the rush of a heat wave, Mom lifted her front door window each evening for fresh air. She would forget to lower the window. Thus, her mail drop was blocked. The local mail delivery person would come to the door and just walk away. After several days of this "service" the mail carrier finally used his God-given sense to leave a note that all mail was undeliverable. I find it utterly amazing that the mail carrier waited so long to leave a note and that it was acceptable to leave a note but not ring a door bell once to remind Mom that her mail drop was blocked.

I finally returned home and found at my mail box about 7 weeks of mail that belonged to my Mother. I had been away so the mail just grew and grew. Bills were not paid on time, services were terminated and Mom was still waiting for her mail.

I went to the local Post Office and attempted to speak to an official there, a Miss G. She was extremely rude to me and even left me standing in the Post Master's office talking to myself. She was uncooperative, rude and indifferent. She accused me of yelling and that is a total lie.

I did report her to her State Supervisor and he wrote me a letter informing me that our mail delivery people were too busy to ring a doorbell every day for anyone. I had only suggested a one-time ring. Today, G is still on the job and still treating people poorly. I am in the public sector and I hear so many complaints about this woman. Well today, I have another complaint.

TODAY I AM VERY UPSET. My Mother has an arrangment with Medical Liberty to have her essential prescriptions for Diabetes delivered to her by mail. Originally, the medicine was coming to Mom's home but because of last years experience we arranged to have the medicine go to my Postal Box. When I went to secure my mail a week ago, I found 2-3 "Go to Postal Window" announcement. The mail worker only found one item; a CD from America Online. The worker could find nothing more. She figured it was a mistake.

Today, I received a phone call from Medical Liberty to inquire if my Mother was dead or not. They sent her usual supply of Glucovance and the local Post Office returned the medicine to the company. What really upsets me is that they even marked the box "Return to Sender - Party Deceased". As I write this, my Mother is in the kitchen watching her favorite soap and having tea. Neither she nor I is amused that she has been reported dead.

Heaven knows who else these idiots at the Post Office have reported this false information to. This is a very serious issue. First, my Mom will be delayed in received her medicine. Second, I worry who else may now think Mom is dead.

The damage here is three fold. First, my Mother is delayed in receiving a very crucial prescription she is required to take each day. Second, we are now very worried who else may have been informed that Mom is deceased. Third, my Mother is now very upset that someone at a Government building has informed others that she is deceased. An elderly person does not need this stress. Mom is visibly upset. I'm furious.

USPS Guaranteed International Delivery. What a joke. I sent an envelope containing a international postal order to Canada using this service. Charged $20.00 for next day delivery I waited to check the status on-line the following day. First the on-line tracking service is a joke because they only update it twice. Once when the pick up the package (You already know they picked it up) and once when they deliver the package.

So on the day that the package is supposed to be out for Delivery I get a message that it has been picked up from its point of origin. Hate to break the news to you guys but that was old news yesterday and not even worth the server space it took to tell me this yet again. By the end of the day when my "Guaranteed" delivery was supposed to arrive I still could not determine where it was. Wait on hold at the 800 number for 1 1/2 hours; no one answers. Go to bed. Wake up on day three and call gets through, (now I'm excited) -- I'm about to learn the status of my letter.

Sorry, systems just went down call back later. Two-hour wait on hold on day 3 I get through to find out the the letter had arrived in Seattle on day 2. Great Seattle is only 20 minutes from Victoria British Columbia, so surely it will arrive today, granted a day late but ok. WRONG. Seems they have to ship the letter from Seattle to Cincinnati for shipment back to British Columbia. I get it -- must not be any border crossing in the west, have to retrack to the Midwest to go north. Bottom line.

Since we are on Day 3 and it is Friday and since unless I was smart enough to know on Tuesday that they would screw this up and as a result ask for Saturday delivery my package would now have to wait until Monday. But wait Monday is a holiday in the US. Great it will be Tuesday. NO, Tuesday is the date Canada observes the holiday. IT WILL BE WEDNESDAY. One week to ship a letter overnite "Gauranteed" across country. Oh the wonder of technology. These guys give new meaning to mismanagement.

What a joke to think that the want to play in the field with the big guys (FED EX). I was out $650 for a week and I could not recieve the material which I had ordered and was paying for due to the delays. Never mind the endless time spent trying to get a legitimate answer.

The residents of my apartment building leave our outgoing mail in the lobby, and our mail person takes it when they drop off mail. Maybe not the safest, but ...

On November 12th I left five enevelopes to various address, four of which contained checks for credit card companies and utilities. There was a pile of outgoing mail. None of those checks have been cashed Which according to all concerned parties, means they never arrived.

Maybe the US Mail didn't lose them, maybe each company did, maybe it's my fault for not putting them in a locked box, but needless to say, my bank wants $25 to stop each check ($100). And my credit card companies and utilities are all charging late fees, even though this is the first time it happened. And on top of that if I don't stop the check, I was told from the bank that if someone fraudulently cashes any of these checks, I will be held responsible.

Chris has learned an expensive lesson that others can profit from. The only safe place to deposit outgoing mail is in a locked mailbox -- the kind you see on nearly every street corner -- or at the post office. If you leave it lying around somewhere and it gets stolen, as apparently happened to Christopher, you're entirely on your own.

I called my wife to let her know I was in the parking lot since she has to help me bring my stuff up to the apartment, and told her it would be awhile because I had to wait for the carrier to move the vehicle so I could park.

She went and found the carrier and asked her if she would PLEASE move the vehicle since she was parked in the handicapped space and I was waiting. My wife came out to my car very mad. She told me she had asked the carrier, and the carrier told her to ** OFF I WILL PARK ANY ** PLACE I WANT TO! My wife stated she would be calling the postmaster with a complaint, and the carrier told my wife that if she did, "Watch and see how much mail you get." The Americans With Disabilities Act may not have been written with postal delivery in mind but it seems that some accommodation should be made for those who need a little extra help. Failing that, maybe postal vans could at least avoid parking in handicapped spaces.

This is to notify you of a very serious safety issue that presents itself on a daily basis . That being mailmen who park less than the required amount of feet from the corner and who upon request refuse to move their trucks. This situation presents itself on a daily basis with the carrier who delivers mail in the area of Laurel and Louisiana Ave. Laurel is a one-way Steet which crosses Louisiana Ave.
This particular carrier has no regard for his safety or for the safety of drivers wishing to drive across Louisiana. A request was made from aproximately three weeks ago concening his parking his truck less than ten feet from the intersection blocking the vision of anyone having to cross the intersection. He still refuses to move the postal vehicle to the opposite corner and when questioned, replied, "This is my corner". When I informed him that I would report him to his supervisor, he replied, "Do what you need to do".
I did report him this morning and was told that someone would be sent out, only to see his truck in the same position. I am a good driver, but even I lack the ability to see thru this truck. I would suggest than someone handle this situation before their is a horible accident on this corner. I have photos of this hazard and would gladly offer them to anyone who gets injured at this intersection.

Bernadette should call the New Orleans Police and demand that they have the postal van ticketed and/or towed. If that doesn't work, she should contact her alderman, city council person, ward boss or whatever they're calling themselves these days.

The tracking information indicated it had not yet reached its destination. I then talked to a USPS Express Mail representative at approx. 2:30 central time. That person assured me that the parcel had likely been delivered, but the information had not yet been entered into the tracking system. By 7:00pm central time, the parcel had STILL not arrived. At that point, USPS representatives explained that they did not know what happened, but that the parcel appears to have spent the entire day of July 31st in the post office, undelivered.
I have not been able to gain any help in locating the parcel or being assured of its delivery once it is found. The Express Mail 24-hour phone service has only been able to report that the parcel has not been delivered. Responsiblity for locating the parcel has been left to me.

I am a faculty member at the University of Arkansas. The application was for a Fulbright Scholarship. The USPS error has potentially cost me a signficant career advancement, as well as the economic benefits that follow from such an advancement.

    2. Packages to my physical address have been left on my doorstep a few times and I believe in one instance my neighbor took the package. I live in an apartment complex and have been advised that by law mail carriers should not be leaving packages unless a waiver to leave them has been signed. The other option would be for the carrier to leave the package with the leasing office.

    1. This is an obstruction of my privacy and is illegal as well. I would like the individual who is responsible to be disciplined accordingly.

I just moved to the area so I am unfamiliar with the post office. But what has been going on is around November we started not to recieve packages that have been sent to us. Most of the packages have been from friends but what has bothered me is items that we have ordered from major companies have not been arriving. I called the companies to verify our address and see how they have been sent. All packages that have been sent have been sent by U.S. mail. Two companies resent items that we still did not receive.

I have no idea who to contact about this, or how to go about finding out what is happening to all our packages.

One of my daughter's Christmas gifts did not arrive, which was horrible because we couldn't find it in any of the stores so we ordered it from Amazon.com. When I notified them the week before Xmas that it did not come, they said they had sent it and will express mail us another. Then they found out that they had no more in stock and we could not receive our replacement until March. I now worry that my child support checks won't come, or my tax refund, or my paystubs, because I think these packages are getting taken or lost at the post office.

As a result, my payment history shows a missed payment and their computer states that I must make a payment of $52 this month as opposed to the $41 payment I expected. While this is not a great deal of money, as I am almost 66 years old and on limited income it means a great deal. (I have an old computer just so you will know -- it's all I can afford).

I find the fact that the mail took some 13 days to arrive in Eureka which is usually an overnight delivery outrageous. How can I make an effective complaint other than writing my U S Congress person? As mentioned above 1) my payment record with CSAA now shows a missed payment 2) I must pay an additional $11 on this month's payment on my car insurance.

There is a complaint form at the USPS Web site, www.usps.gov. But how effective it is is another question. Actually, James should stsart with his local Postmaster and work up from there.

I moved into this apartment complex 5 months ago. I was receiving my mail like normal until Oct. 1, 1999. I usually receive a water bill on the first of every month and when it did not come I was concerned. I thought it might have been late or got lost in the mail.

I am extremely busy and only check my mail once a week and you can imagine my surprise that for one month I received NO MAIL. I wasn't even receiving the normal junk mail everybody gets.

I contacted the postal service on November 1, 1999 and asked for information. They gave me a case number and said someone would return my call. By November 5, 1999 nobody had called so I called again that morning at 8 am, asking to speak directly with the Clearfield Post Office.

When the operator looked at my case number it said I had received a phone call on November 3rd. (never happened) Once I was connected to the post office I talked to Tracy and she informed that she would check on my problem and call me within the hour with an answer. Four hours later I received a voice mail (still saved on my machine) stating that the postal carrier thought that nobody lived there anymore so he quit delivering the mail.

My first thought was- why is the postal carrier making decisions on whether or not to deliver mail? Even if he thought the apartment had been vacated he has no right to simply decide not to put my mail where it belongs. They have lost my mail for the last month and when they returned my call they were laughing in the background.

This is a very serious problem and I think tampering with the mail because you THINK no one lives there is ridiculous. If mail comes to that address it should be delivered whether or not the postal carrier THINKS someone lives there. My mail for last month is nowhere to be found and I am left with a lot of unanswered questions.

Due to this error by a very inconsiderate postal carrier all my bills will be late. My gas and power could have subsequently been shut off because the bill was returned to them because no one lives there anymore. I have had to call each company and find out my balance and where to send the payment and what I need to do to get my bills current.

I have lost cards and letters sent to me by friends that the postal service said would be returned to sender but none of them have received anything back. I appalled that such an oversight could happen.

What kind of person makes such a serious decision without some kind of question? It takes all of 15 steps to get to the office of my apartment complex from the mailboxes to ask if apartment F142 is vacant. In stead of doing this he just assumed that it was and discontinued my mail. In my opinion that was not his decision to make.

I have tried writing forward on the mail itself, but for some reason, it still sits in our mailbox. At one point, we had such a huge amount of other people's mail, that we put it in a plastic bag with a big note that said, "None of these people live here!" It isn't a big deal, but it is pretty annoying.

The consequences are minor annoyances, like not having enough room in our mailbox for our mail, having to spend 10 minutes a day sorting out the mail...It'd be nice to somehow have this one little peeve dealt with. So please, if you let me know who to talk to to correct the problem, I'd appreciate it!

This should be simple. Just go to your post office and fill out a change of address form for the people who don't live there anymore.

Can a postal employee intentionally ignore my mail and not process it?

I would like to find out how I can be assured that my mail will be handled properly.

The result of my mail not being processed is that several customers were not made aware of an auction that was conducted on Sept. 14th. Our mail is time sensitive and an auction catalog never delivered or delivered late is a waste of postage, printing, advertising etc.

I went into the lobby and spoke with one of the postal representatives. I was told that I could not get a refund, but they could give me $9.01 worth of stamps. I asked to speak to a supervisor. I spoke with Bob (he did not give his last name). I was also told by him, that I couldn't get a cash refund, that they could only give me credit in stamps.

Well, the point is, if I wanted $10.00 worth of stamps, I would have purchased that many. I asked him, if the machine is supposed to give you a cash refund, why would they give me stamps. He said that the machine did not belong to the post office, but to a company called NCR. I asked him if there was a customer number, where I could speak with someone, he told me no.

I then asked if a representative from NCR comes to check the machines. He said yes, but the guy would not be able to give me a refund, because he only checks the software to see what the problem is. He also, stated that on this same day, there were a couple of the same incidences with this machine.

I asked him, if there was a problem with the machine or if you only give credits in stamps, why wasn't this posted somewhere on or near the machine. He did not know. I was informed that I could fill out a Consumer Service Card and someone would be in contact with me. I filled out the card and went home and found the number for NCR (from toll-free information). I called and spoke to Tamikia, and she stated that the post office needed to call them, not individual consumers.

On 8/21/99, I called the US Postmaster and left a voice message regarding this situation. At 1040, I called the US Postal Service and spoke with Sharita, she documented my complaint and gave me a reference number. They would forward the information and someone would be in touch with me.

On 8/30/99, I still had not heard from anyone. I called Bob, the supervisor at the Montgomery Road Post Office. He told me that they were still waiting for a reply from headquarters.

On 9/16/99, I called the USPS Consumer Affairs and left a message, I am still waiting to speak to someone. I called the United States Postal Service and spoke with Carrie, she stated that no one had even looked at the complaint yet. My complaint is: it has been almost a month and no one has contacted me. I am the one who has been doing all of the follow-up calling. It is not like I asking for a lot of money, it just $9.01 that would have been refunded to me if the machine was working.

I know that there are procedures to go through, but this is ridiculous. All I want is my $9.01 refunded to me and I am never using the automated machines again. The problem is, that money was my gas money. What if someone had only a $20.00 bill and they only wanted a few stamps, the rest of the money is for gas or lunch. Because of the machine, they don't get their money back, but they get refunded in stamps. Stamps don't fill the gas tank and they surely don't feed you. I would greatly appreciate some insight on what else I can do to resolve this matter.

We were sent a priority mail envelope from our daughter who lives in Oshkosh Wisconsin. She sent it on a Monday and we did not receive it until Thursday. We have been told priority mail takes two or three days and it is delivered special. It was delivered by our regular mail man with his regular delivery. Now there is nothing priority about that and it is very misleading and mis represented by making the public beleive it has priority over regular mail when it does not and in this case it would have been cheaper to sent it by first class mail and would have gotten to us just as fast.

Called the 800 number which was customer service in Colorado and was told by them that priority mail does not have any priority and not tracking and is considered regular mail.

Customer Service is right. There's no guarantee of quick delivery. The only guarantee is a higher price.

I came home from work and proceeded to retrieve my mail from the locked mail boxes provided at the apartment building. For the 2nd time in two weeks, I could not open my mail box because the mail in the box was blocking the latch. I called the 800 number to speak to our post office here in Long Beach, Ca. (Bixby Knolls Station zip: 90807) and asked that someone please come out to open the mail box since the post office does not allow the manager of the building to have the main key, and retrieve the mail in this type of a case.

This was at 3:25 P.M. The lady I spoke with told me she would get a carrier to retrieve the mail. What she failed to state was it would not be until the following day!! And I would have to pick up the mail at the post office.

I did not find this out until I called back one hour later and was told that all the carriers had gone home and it would be the following day. I work all day as I stated so the lady proceeded to tell me I would have to come to the post office to retrieve my mail! This is unacceptable.

When this previously happened, a supervisor was good enough to provide customer service and came out to open the box and brought the mail to the door.

I think the Post Office should be more customer service oriented beyond the actual Post Office buliding. The previous supervisor that came out proved it can be done!

Yesterday, I returned home, to find that a package had been left on my front porch, in plain sight, without my authorization. The contents were in the hundreds of dollars.

My neighborhood is not that safe, and I am appalled that a U.S. Postal employee would have been so irresponsible. I think this should be dealt with. Had the package been stolen, it would have been my word against whoever the carrier was that day.

In the future, I would appreciate it, if I am not home, that they would leave a note, if I have not left other instructions.

For a period of 5 months, mail coming to me was returned to sender marked "vacant". Mail was addressed properly and had been received for nearly 9 years at the same address, only 3 doors from the post office delivering the mail.

Mail returned improperly was bank statements, utility bills, credit

    card bills, etc.

The consequence; no bank statements for three months, resulting in various business problems. Utility bills did not get paid and I was threatened with shut off of utilities. Leases on some equipment were in default and credit card companies reduced credit limit in one case. My excellent credit rating was negatively affected.

I have had my mail left in the lobby when it does not fit in the mailbox, despite the act that I am home all te time and I can be reached by calling me on an intercom system (I live on the second floor of this building). I have a disability and I can no longer walk to my mailbox downstair because of severe fatigue. When my regular mailman is not on, my mail is left downstairs or either left in front of my door and no one knocks to let me know it is there!

It would only take one minute for a mailperson to call upstairs, and for me to buzz them in and for them to bring me the package that doesn't fit in the box! I live by myself and have the person who does my grocery shopping once a week check the mailbox for me.

I have in the past lost two packages, one was $100 of medical supplies and the other was a $60 package. I was told that it is at the mailperson's discretion whether to leave a package or not when it doesn't fit in the mailbox or to leave a pink slip and take the package back to the post office for pickup.

I have been waiting for five packages, all mailed from different places, mailed from March 2-8 which I have not yet received. I don't know if they are lost in the mail or have been left in the lobby and have been taken by someone!

Funny they will stuff your mailbox with letters for people who don't live there and you notify them about it and they are insistent on doing that and when it comes to trying to get packages to their proper recipient, they could care less, as long as they get it to the right address!

If the Postal Service is so busy with its many new commercial ventures, maybe it should subcontract delivery to disabled persons to the local organizations that provide the Meals on Wheels programs. They are constantly strapped for funds and they would certainly provide better, more humane service.

I'm actually writing just to request some information. Who do I contact at the Post Office to stop getting about 10 different people's mail who no longer live at our address!
