Updated on 10/28/2021: Freedom continues to do what was promised when we signed up and we're down to the last account which should be settled in the next 3 months or so. They've done a remarkable job attaining good settlements for us! Don't be afraid to give them a try!
Updated on 02/06/2021: Overall the experience has been good. FDR has done exactly what they said they would. Sometimes I wish communications were a little better but the summary email at the beginning of the month is helpful. Down to the last few debts and working through them.
Original Review: So far Freedom Debt Relief has done everything they said they would. They have been doing regular account settlements as funds allow and if creditors are being difficult the optional NLLG service has been great. Communications are generally good, statements are easy to understand and the website works great.

I would have to say that it has taken longer than I originally thought and I would have liked to settle at a lower rate with some of my debtors but... now that I am about one year from being debt free I am feeling better about the process. It does take some time and it is a little stressful at times. I would have been in debt a lot longer if I had not gone forward with this plan.

First thing is I want to say is thank you Shaun ** for helping us and getting all of the information about your company to us so we felt we were could make an informed decision. You know the ole saying information is powerful. I had received something in the mail that I looked at on Sunday and decided to apply. I believe it was by Even. I first submitted it under my husband’s name because he makes way more than I do and wanted to see if we could file jointly to get a higher loan with us both being on it. A representative called me before I think I had the chance to hit send. We couldn’t do a joint loan so I applied with my information and that’s when you called me as I was hitting send. We normally would have taken the loan offer under my husband’s name but we realized that not even for a full $10K when it was said and done we would have paid over $32K for the life of the loan.
As soon my application was sent you called me and you held no judgement in your tone nor your voice. We went over some very important but private information and you still gave me the feeling that you could turn this around without a single push for a hard sale or a change of tone in your voice. You really were informative, explained everything and because you sounded too good to be true I pulled up the reviews while I was talking with you. The reviews were great and the fact we could be debt free in 4 years was a very satisfying. I never thought this would be us.
I’ll be 44 years old tomorrow and before I’m 50 we will be on the road to financial success. I’m not the best writer so I apologized but explaining how much we had to pay last year for our medical due to my illness and the fact 4 years ago I went from working a full time job making almost $70k to going on disability making less than $24k you understood. Again no judgement. I respected your advise so much I asked several times. When a question would be brought up and I wasn’t sure what to do I asked you what would you do if it was you in my position? You always replied with what I really believe was an honest answer so I took your advise.
Your company really has something special going on and it's employees like you is the reason people don’t feel judged, alone, scared or embarrassed. Also, I told you from the beginning I didn’t have the best memory and I tried to write down everything you said but I know I repeatedly asked you the same questions multiple times and you handled it like a pro, like it was the first time I asked you. Thank you Shaun for calling me exactly when you said you were (always on time) and if I needed to call you and you were on the other line I knew you’d called me back the moment you got off the phone even though I didn’t leave a message. We spoke a lot during the last 4 days and you made sure that I had the best information at all times. So if you can’t tell this is a huge thank you letter for everything you have done for us up until this point.
You all moved so fast that you let us know this was as important to you as it was us and you treated it like it was your personal dilemma not ours. Thank you for for saying, "You don’t need that other loan to just buy you a few more months and then you're back to where you were prior to that loan only to be deeper." The stress I carried about juggling money to make sure I could pay for this or that each month is over and that’s all because of you. You set us up so we can just pay our bills and not wonder where the next dollar is coming from and that we would have enough left over if there was an emergency without taking out another crazy loan.
Thank you Shaun so much and I’m so happy that when I picked up the phone that day it was you on the other line. I’m not sure how someone else would have made me feel probably fine since the people I have spoken to for verification never made me feel any sort of less than. Regardless I’m so happy you have taken care of everything, made this a hassle free transaction and getting off the phone without an ounce of shame for the situation we are in. I was so sure you had done this program before yourself because I felt you had been in my shoes at one point. Crazy to find out you weren’t. Thank you for listening to me cry about why this was such a huge deal and how you literally were giving me not only financial freedom but freedom from other things we spoke about that was personal to me. You never once rushed me off the phone or made me feel like I wasn’t your only customer.
If you are looking for a great human that holds no judgement call ** or email him at **. That’s his direct line and his email. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to put his contact info in there but I was lucky enough to get him so all I can do is recommend the man who gave me hope. It’s been 2.5 years and my credit is deplorable and no way to even try to fix it. I'm giving every penny and more to FDR, they are nice enough but this is draining and it seems like bankruptcy would have fixed Everything years ago and I could have had eaten these last 2.5 years.

I have been very satisfied with all interactions with customer relations. I requested a change in the withdrawal date. This was very easy. I am very satisfied with the handling of my debt. It took a while to begin, but finally I am almost at the end.

It is nice to have my debt negotiated for me but you talk the creditors down and then I still end up paying the same amount the debt was or more because the fees for check by phone or payment that you charge are so high that I end up paying the full amount owed or even more. One payment is set up for pay a check by phone monthly of $5.00 but the fee for that is about $7.00. I am not saving any money on that settlement because you charge so much.

You're not really saving the money. They say your balances go up because of collection companies, then they settle on that balance, then you have to claim the savings to IRS... Big mistake joining this but too late now. Credit is Ruined... check payment fee $10.00 ACH fee's $3.00 monthly service fee, the fees come out to more than the credit card monthly payments. So sorry I joined.

I enrolled with FDR in 2017, I am paying all installments on time. I am being sued by BOA and now Discover Bank! FDR did not negotiate with the banks for two years, yet they warned me not to negotiate with the banks on my own and the result is: I am forced to pay more money, extra one time payment to FDR, court fees by BOA and attorney fees (Law group representing FDR)! Are you a scam company?

Customer service was great when they were trying to recruit me but after that, haven't heard from them. When I call, I just get general customer service. I don't have a personal representative who knows my account. Also, not sure if the fees they charge are worth it. If I had to do it over, I probably would try settling my accounts on my own.

The staff at Freedom Debt Relief, have been incredibly helpful thru this whole process. I'm on the back side of my debt now and know for a fact, that without their service, I would have declared bankruptcy four years ago! The plan they laid out for my account is working. Engaging Freedom Debt Relief has allowed me to get back control of my finances. After three years in the program almost all my credit cards debts have been settled and the only regret I have is that I didn't do this sooner. My credit score has even improved such that it is now 'good'. This is a great program and Freedom have been very easy to work with.

Was looking for help and to get my bills in order, and found your web page and called the number and was really happy the way the man spoke to me and said that y'all could help. This company takes advantage of people struggling. They will tell you they need X amount to settle a debt, however, they don't even reach out to the creditors yet when they say this! It's only to cover their fees! They are not transparent when dealing with your money. They told me they needed $2615 to negotiate my debt, not to pay their fees, to start negotiating. They said that they will not help me until I get this amount. So I don’t paying 25% interest plus fees on my taxes and $1000 was just for their fees! They didn't even offer it to the creditor to help negotiate my debt down more!!! When I said I wanted to remove the money, they said they will pull out of negotiating and won’t help me!
I said if I am short money to just let me take out that $1000 and increase my monthly deposits! So I can pay the money back to not get into more debt than I am in! And they said no and before even paying the creditor they took out their fees! I have told them how upset I am and they haven’t answered me at all. Mind you, this is the SECOND time they have been negligent with MY money and not transparent. BEWARE, this is not a good company to help with your debt! Relief? More like Grief! Do a nonprofit, or any other company but this one!

Extremely poor communication, goes out of the way to ** people with the high cost of commission. It's absolutely horrible what you charge every month for fees, very ignorant staff, can't speak English so very hard to talk to someone. Would never recommend anyone to use Freedom Debt for any reason. Never again.

Our fees are not collected until we've obtained a settlement agreement with the creditor and the client agrees to the terms of the settlement. Once the first payment has been scheduled to go out to the creditor, then and only then do we schedule the drafts of our fees. Until this point, FDR does not charge any fees whatsoever to our clients.

I am disappointed the FDR did not contact my creditors, to inform them that i made arrangements with FDR to get out of debt. That resulted in at least one creditor filing a claim against me. NLLG dealt with it, but it was not necessary. And i am afraid that there is one more creditor that will do the same.FDR should have contacted them and negotiated to pay part of my monthly payment to show good intentions.

I am hoping the payoff by me at a WFB branch yesterday has been posted. Taylor (?) told me it would be fine for me to pay off at the branch. The reason was that my mother passed away in January, and as Executor the bank would not allow me to create a new account for her Estate under my name as long as the delinquent account with WFB was still outstanding. Hope this worked!

FDR worked efficiently and effectively on settling my four smaller debts. My largest debt did not go as well. I asked a customer service representative about settlements with Discover. He assured me that FDR could settle with Discover. I don’t know if that’s true or not. Discover did not work with FDR but instead sued me (which is their right)! However, if I had known that I would be sued and my reputation ruined along with my credit score, I would have tried to work with Discover directly rather than including it in the contract with FDR.

You have had my accounts and my money for a year and 4 months. During that time the only action you have taken, aside from taking some of my money every month, has been to resolve a case where I told the creditor about you and they came to you for resolution. You have had more than enough money to settle 3 of my remaining accounts. While your story is that you need 25%. This is ridiculous. Also you never told me this before I subscribed with you. While you have been sitting doing nothing, you have managed to ruin my credit to the point I cannot even remortgage. Thanks for nothing!! I was not able to manage all the debt anymore on my own. I found an ad on Freedom Debt Relief and I also knew somebody who had a relative that used them. They were good at setting everything up and working with me on a payment that I could afford. They’ve also been great at handling a couple of the things that I have gone through like law firms and other things. They have really good customer service, too, and I've had good interactions with them. With Freedom Debt Relief, I have to hold myself accountable to a tighter budget and just living within my means. And, that’s all been really good for me. I'd tell people that they’re a good option to go with.

I found Freedom Debt Relief online looking for help with my debt. I understood what the company was explaining and I thought this would be a good solution for me. After signing up I got a little concerned and scared about not paying my creditors, so I called the customer service people and the agent helped calm my fears and that this was normal to feel this way. He reassured me the first three months were the hardest. I called customer service after receiving a call threatening legal action if I didn't respond within 48 hours. The customer service representative was great reassuring me that it was a scare tactic to get me to call, the representative said that they would send you a notice through the mail. We had too much credit and couldn’t keep up with the payments. Over other companies, Freedom Debt Relief called me first. I talked to Justin and I liked him, so I decided to go with them. My experience with Freedom went very well. Their customer service was excellent and I could not have asked for better service with the way things were handled. They did great, except that it was a slow process. I was trying really to get the debts paid off, but at our age, the bills would outlast us. So, I dropped out and we filed for bankruptcy. They decided that was the best way to go. If we were younger, we would have stayed with it.

Joining FDR was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Their settlement fee rules (money that goes straight to FDR) are rigid and arbitrary and add so much to your monthly payments. Customer service is so unhelpful when you call. It's also been two years and not all of my accounts have been settled. I don't mean paid off, I mean have a settlement in place. I would honestly suggest just negotiating on your own behalf with creditors. You'd save so much more money.
We're terribly sorry to hear the frustrations you mentioned. Yes, we do collect a settlement fee. However, we do not collect our settlement fees until we have done our part; which is to negotiate the balance amount and attempt to reduce the amount that is owed. Once we have successfully accomplished this goal and have scheduled payments to go out to the creditor, only then do we begin to collect our settlement fees.
If you would, please consider the following. Compare our fees to the 100% of the debt amount plus any interest and additional late/penalty fees if someone can't meet the monthly required minimum payment. We offer a proven solution at an affordable monthly cost that helps our client pay down their entire debt; principal, fees, interest and all.

You dropped the ball with one of my accts, American Express. I kept getting letters from them, phone calls. The letters were send to you and you still did nothing. NLLG is a pile of **. Most useless group on the planet. I was served court papers, and for weeks they did nothing. Finally I pulled the acct and took care of it myself. I should have done more research on Freedom, would have never went with you.

FDR is great. I started with FDR in June 2018. Out of 11 debts they have resolved 5 and 2 are being negotiated and it has only been 8 months. They work fast and keep you updated with every move. Freedom Debt Relief was recommended to me by a friend’s sister and I decided to go through the program because I have been trying to pay the credit cards, but I’m only capable of paying the minimum payment and it was getting me nowhere. I needed help getting down the bills and when I called and I talked to them, they want nothing to do with me except ask for my money. So, I looked and Freedom was the only one that worked with me. Signing up was easy. All I did was make the phone call and give them my information. The phone call took half an hour and it was done. They took care of everything and I downloaded everything that I needed to download on my phone.
I have all their numbers stored away. I like the fact that I could just text and that I don’t have to take the time to call people like when I’m at work. Also, I never felt like they were judging me. Every time I called, even when I had to skip a payment, they were very helpful to me. We’re working on a year and I have to skip three payments because of my situation. I’m a little bit behind of what they projected, but they’ve always been helpful to me. I would recommend it 100%.

The person helped me understand that I may not need to file an additional form for a resolved debt, BUT that I need to review it with the person doing my taxes. He explained that the companies that have been settled with are suppose to send me a form, but sometimes they do not. He was very helpful.

Well, I received a summons to go to court, but, I already made an agreement? The gal told me to fax paperwork, I did this am, then call NLLG, I did, and now she says they have to process and contact me by Wednesday? I was originally told NLLG has to respond within 3 days of receipt of the summons... I hope this doesn't screw up anything.

This program isn’t as wonderful as advertised. I ended up almost getting sued even though I followed all the rules and was treated poorly by your representatives. All of that just to end up with a loan with 25.99% APR. Now I have a $515 payment that I can barely make and I will still end up paying the same amount.

UPDATED 03/15/2022: They put all my bills into one payment and lowered the original amount of my bills. It did take some time for the negotiation to happen but it did happen. I have and would recommend Freedom Debt Relief to anyone.

My experience with FDR has been positive and I will and have recommended them to others that have asked me about trying to get over the hump of extreme debt. However the NLG group has done nothing for me and has been a complete waste of money. I have been taken to court three different times and the NLG has not contacted the courts at all. So those accounts came out as judgements against me and wages were garnished.

Good Customer Service and online dashboard. In my opinion, I should have been set up with the sister consumer loan service instead of ruining my credit score during the lengthy debt negotiation process. Now I will need to pay a lawyer to help me restore all the overdues. Folks don’t go through that with government-backed debt programs.

These guys just want to help! Our society and traditions have taught us some of the wrong things. Giving into big banks and spending years overpaying debts with ridiculous interest rates should be a thing of the past. Taking a temporary hit to credit hurts, yes, but does it hurt worse than potentially finding yourself 3-4 years down the road with a still below average credit score and possibly double the amount of debt. I’m looking forward to this experience, everyone’s experience and situation is different, but if eliminating your debt is something that’s crossed your mind more than once or twice... I recommend calling them to find out some options that will help you. Excellent customer service and explanation over the phone. The process of setting up doesn’t take very long, especially in regards to to future upside of putting financial burden in your past. Thanks again!

This might be a great program for someone with really bad credit and already has closed accounts. But if you have good credit or even decent credit don't use this company. Find other means to pay off your debt. I made this mistake and now I'm playing damage control. It's truly not worth it. This company just takes your monthly fees with no results while your credit slips from the mid 7's to the low 5's in only a couple of months. I am truly angry at myself for being such a fool and signing up with them. I think they really should be more transparent with their potential customers about how bad this is for your credit, a specially those customers who made their payments on time and had great credit scores before signing up for this horrifying program. Just say no!

My conversation with the specific representative was fine but my overall satisfaction with the company is zero. We were misled when we signed up for the program and now 2 years in what can we do. Our enrolled balance has jumped $20,000 and extended the program from 48 months to 69 for now. By the time our original 48 months is up we'll probably owe for 84 to 96 months. Double the estimated program time and payoff. I would really think twice about using this company. They make it sound all good when helping you straighten out a bad situation then they get you. All lies.

This company really helped me get my finances in order and have been there for me through some rough patches with the creditors, especially during the two years. During the first two years, it was sometimes difficult for me to contact anyone because their web page was not the best. They aren't upfront about how they are going to to get you out of debt. I wasn't behind on any of my bills when I started using them. I just wasn't getting out of debt. They don't pay any of the debt initially. You give them the money but the wait until the creditor either files a lawsuit or get far enough behind that the settle the account. My credit score dropped a 100 points after signing up. Do not use.

I have been treated professionally always. I do think this is an expensive service but when you have dug yourself into such a deep hole that you cannot get a consolidation loan it provides a way out without the embarrassment of a zillion collection calls and notices and you do make progress every month. I recommend it but think bankruptcy is also a viable option for a younger person.

I owed 460.00 on a bill, watching FDR have the bill climb to 1200.00 due to late fees and missing payments. I now paid 500.00. How is the that a savings of 700.00? Now it's considered earned income I am being taxed on. That fuzzy feeling of paying a bill 2x over and getting taxed on top of it.

When I contacted FDR, I felt relief. I was told that a particular payment amount would have me out of debt within 3 to 4 years. About 9 months later I started getting phone calls from a partner of FDR promoting that I take out a loan so they could negotiate my account more quickly. I got the money from a different source and provided FDR with money with which to negotiate. They sat on the money for several months and continued to take money from my checking about. Finally, we got it down to one creditor after much prodding. However, one creditor still remains. According to FDR, the creditor has accepted a proposal twice. Likewise so did I. But the creditor has returned the payment saying the account does not exist. Meanwhile, the money left to pay the creditor is now being eaten up by fees. And that creditor remains at the top of my credit report.

Must say that for the most part the experience has been pretty good. It was a little frustrating at times due to the lack of response when thing were not going right. Freedom never contacted all the debtors immediately as I was lead to believe from the initial phone call. They want to wait until you are 60 or 90 days late and maybe even more before the will even talk to anyone. Had an issue with being taken to small claims court, and I had 1 months notice of this. The legal team could not do anything because it was small claims. I told them to settle for the full amount before the court date and no effort was made to try and do this. It kind of made a big mess out of this particular account and I was forced to take care of it myself. Told them to remove it and I still continued to get emails about the account all the way till December of 2018 10 months after it was taken off the list. But over all not a bad system to have to deal with.

I was desperate when I enrolled in FDR, and thought that it was a good choice - maybe it was, I still don't know. I enrolled with two credit card accounts more than 2 years ago, and have made every single one of my deposits. I am frustrated at the opaque nature of FDR's communication with me. I followed instructions and changed all of my creditor's account contact information to FDR, since then I have not heard a peep from them (except for the damage to my credit report). In all fairness, this process was explained to me at the beginning by FDR. That is not the source of my frustration. What is frustrating is I don't know what the stages mean in the negotiation.
On my client dashboard, FDR tells me I'm now in "Targeted Negotiation" - what does that mean? I have more in my deposit account than one of my credit accounts, why not just pay that off and be done with it? I also now read today that FDR has been sued for fraud because they can't even negotiate with Chase - one of my creditors. Why wasn't I informed of that at the beginning? Additionally, because of the opaque nature of the "negotiations" how do I know that FDR isn't just prolonging the process so they can keep collecting their $20 monthly service fee? Honestly, I would prefer not to air these problems, but FDR is very cagey when I call them and don't tell me much about the process. I feel this is my only recourse. Buyer beware.

When I enrolled in the program I was afraid and felt like there was no relief for me and that everything was going downhill. Then I started to see credit cards being paid off, that was a wonderful feeling, but when I received my 1st summons from the courts, after being in the program for 2 years the feeling of doom came back again, you see I thought after I agreed to the settlement the payment would be taken out of my account . Don't have enough character to write more, I will write more when I the summons is settle.

I am a little disappointed at the fact that when I leave messages for my case manager, on two occasions now, we have never received a callback. I was also disappointed that I called on two occasions looking for guidance regarding the 1099-c documents that I received from creditors and was given very little guidance from representatives. Now, I received an email today with directions after my return has already transpired.

Beyond Elated with Freedom and Aaron was wonderful in helping me. I used Cambridge Credit and they were not giving me any relief and it was a very serious struggle. My issue started with being laid off and my savings account Was depleted and I found myself hitting rock bottom. I was used to making a certain amount of money and I was unable to keep going. I was mostly satisfied with Freedom Debt Relief. However, it was not explained well enough about the fees involved. They also did not tell me that the discharged amount would be taxable. I received 1099C's for this amount. Which could have made my taxes increase by a sizable amount. This was a major problem when filing my taxes. There were months when most of my payment went to fees.

So far so good. It is really too early to tell. I have several people calling for payment... so am I stress-free... No I am not. It would be helpful if there was a shortcut to this site I could put on the computer.

So far so good. Responses are timely, and the staff is professional and very customer friendly. The payment schedule is going as planned, it's just that there's the tax liability... you just can't win with system... who needs a tax bill on top of this... however, its not FDR's fault or problem.
