In November of 2017, health and credit issues led me to Accredited Debt Relief and after almost two years, the Freedom Debt Relief representatives assigned to my case have been more than helpful. I am satisfied with the progress made in reduction of my Debt. However there was one instance when I felt my best interest was not the most important thing as the company told me they were pursuing a better group solution. I ended up being sued, a very traumatizing time.

I was not getting ahead in my bills, and the companies that I dealt with would not work with me. I decided to get relief from an outside source in order to get my affairs in order prior to getting ready for retirement and went to Freedom Debt Relief. I wish the companies would have settled without me having to use these services, but thankfully, the services are there for me to utilize. I also wish they wouldn’t charge the full rate when you're using a debt resolution company like Freedom Debt. They should negotiate down because if I was having problems then, I'm still having problems.
I also wish that if you do go to court, then you don’t do the court costs. That’s the only negative I gather that the creditors want court costs. I'm being penalized for trying to actually do good and work with them or try to get it taken care of. And so, I do not recommend any of my creditors to anybody. Freedom Debt provided me with just the consolidation of everything, and also the lawyers that I have available to me. Through their program I can have lawyers in case I get sued. So, I have that with my whole monthly payment stuff.
I was pretty comfortable with the consultant. They went through the process with me. Instead of dropping the interest rate and all the stuff, the interest rates need to accrue. It should be at the time that you tell them that you're in trouble that the interest stop and you try to work it out so you're making payments and it works out for both parties instead of continually just for the people who are trying to do better. I recommend FDR. They're very thorough. They explained everything. They help you so that you understand the process and give you long-term and short-term scenarios. I am a year in the program and have two more years left, depending upon how fast I continue to get things work down.

I chose Freedom Debt Relief because they were upfront with me from the start and did not expect any money from me. I contacted two other companies and they both want me to pay a certain amount to them prior to paying off my creditors. It was ridiculous so when I called FDR I was expecting the same deal but that's not what I got. They are actually a company that wants to help first. Not only do they handle everything for you but they are also helpful in reminding you of a missed payment and work with you to fix the issue. The people I have spoken with are very friendly and nice as well. I can't talk on the phone when I am at work so they text me most of the time and I really like that. I highly recommend them and am very happy with the way they do business.

I'm very disappointed someone didn't warn me about this not being an easy card to make a deal with til after the fact & sued. Atty even told me I should have told, feel like I'm being double hit on fees.

I was glad to have a good phone experience with a friendly, professional agent who spoke with me about my continued concerns about being in this program and hanging in there until the first settlement is complete. Even though I am in debt with the amount I have to pay down, I realize I'm the one who put myself in this situation. There are other circumstances that play a role in this, but I am still trying to do the best that I can to have this large amount of debt removed. I would like to thank Freedom Debt Relief for taking an interest and assuring me that if I stick with them and hang in there, this debt will be resolved and even my credit score will improve. I would like to make this review as honest and as accurate as possible. I have started contemplating the Idea if I should Leave the program and file for Chapter 13. When I got into the program, I had 54 K credit card debt and 28 K unsecured personal loan debt. FDR have me a number that I can manage each month. I had no room for medical expenses and House repairs or Car repairs that are unexpected. It is not their fault and they wanted to help me.
The Good Part: They settled 2 debts in a year. 20% is their flat fee. They negotiated Amex for 70% and BOFA for 50%. Bad Part: I do not want to blame FDR for this. I am calling it bad because I overlooked or was not guided by them properly. I received 2 1099-C one for 3500 and another for 6500 from BOFA and AMEX. This is I won't be getting back anything from IRS and I will be paying them 3K or so. Neutral Part: I got sued by 2 Creditors but NLLG took good care of it and negotiated.
I am thinking about Chapter 13 now because I may avoid the IRS part and now if I file for chapter 13 some part of the debt may get written off. FDR told me to file form 982 but I spoke to two Tax companies and both say that is not legal unless we filed for bankruptcy. I wish FDR did not promise about this Insolvency/Form 982 when it was not applicable.

In some cases clients may be required to pay taxes on their forgiven debt, but it is possible to avoid declaring the forgiven debt if a person meets the IRS's definition of liabilities exceeding assets at the time of settlement. This program makes sure they are paid first and foremost while they allow your debts to incur more fees and lead to creditors pursuing litigation. “Strategic Holds” and “Advanced Negotiation” do nothing. Do not fall for the claims of legal help. Once you get notice of being sued they request the paperwork and more money from you to do any type of legal action on your behalf. Then, you get an email from them about your options being to pay more into your Freedom Debt account to satisfy the creditor who filed the lawsuit, no real negotiation happens to reduce the amount, either pay 50% or the amount in full, because that’s less work for them, or borrow money from a friend or family, or pay them like a regular attorney with all the fees and court costs to basically file an answer with the court and when that happens you will still have to pay that creditor either in full or some other percentage of the debt.
Meanwhile the other creditors are preparing the next lawsuit you will receive because they DO NOT communicate with your creditors because you don’t have enough money built up in your “account” to negotiate anything unless you increase your deposit. And they only pay one at a time and it’s the highest debt so that it takes all the money plus their monthly “settlement” fee on top of the over three thousand they promptly take from your account as soon as it reaches that amount and depletes your account so that there is little to nothing left to work with. Please do not be fooled. This program is a terrible idea. We had a few credit cards and a personal loan, approximately thirty thousand in debt and it has created a worse situation. We lost the money we paid into their program. If this can help someone avoid making the same mistake then maybe it will alleviate some of the sting of regret.
Our responses are not meant to be 'canned.' We are simply trying to clarify any misunderstandings about how our program works. There were some things mentioned that are simply untrue. FDR does not benefit from keeping our clients in debt. In fact, we do not use any of the tactics that were mentioned. Please don't mistake us for other companies that may take advantage of people who are struggling. Our program is designed to help you resolve your debt, period! We don't promise easy fixes. Our program requires commitment on the part of the client and it doesn't happen overnight. But it works. We make our money by charging fees on the negotiation services we provide; negotiations that can cut the amount clients owe to their creditors dramatically. We don't make money the longer our clients are in debt. We make money when we get them a reduction on what they owe, so we are always working in their best interests.

Every pay check I was trying to figure out how to balance my payments just to make my minimum payment with no light at the end of the tunnel. The last 7 months have been so easy thanks to the help of FDR. Every payment I’ve made has been contributed already to three credit cards! I am disappointed that my discover Liam was negotiated for 70% of the enrolled balance and with Freedom’s fees I only saved 800 on a 10000 debt. Hardly seems worth the hit to my credit. I am strongly reconsidering staying enrolled in this program.

In cases like these, we may not have the greatest settlement opportunities. However, we ask that you consider the astronomical amount of interest and fees that you would have paid to the creditor had you not enrolled the balance into our program. We understand that at first glance, the savings does not seem to be a sufficient amount. We ask that you consider the fact that the account balance has been settled, no other fees can be added to the settled amount, and the creditor is now satisfied with the settlement amount offered. The balance is behind you and you are that much closer to your debt-free future.
Please do not allow this particular situation to deter you from your ultimate goal; which is to successfully graduate from our program and reach a point of financial freedom. So far, I have been pleased with my progress. I had quite a bit of creditors and FDR has been successful with negotiating almost all of the debt owed. If you can handle the monthly payments and learn how to ignore the aggressive debt collectors, then I highly recommend FDR. They will honestly negotiate for you and give you a good rate. It's a slow process depending on the amount of debt but totally worth it.

I really have no qualms with FDR. They have been really great. They answer questions and concerns and are a calming entity. The Attorneys they refer you to SUCK, SUCK, SUCK to the max. No honest veterans there, no disabled to keep them above board. They SUCK, SUCK, SUCK AND THEN SCREW YOU. I am disabled and forgot that I had received papers and was late 2 days for their 2 day cut off for notifications. 30 days to respond and they reneged over 48 hours. FDR is great but the attorneys they refer you to are worthless.

I was sued by Citibank and NLLG would not help. Your company wanted 1120 dollars to talk for me so I had to settle the payment plan myself. Now I have pay more money out per month than I was paying before I joined your program.

Updated on 02/23/2022: We are about half way through our debt reduction and and it has been just as promised. We have a ways to go but expect no surprises on this half. The phone calls have all but vanished and this experience has taught us budgeting. We are thankful to FOR and look forward to the day we are debt free.

I am disabled and on a very limited income, and, in my past, every single dollar that I could put towards my personal lifestyle, instead of putting it towards more responsible things, I always made the wrong choice! Because of that, I needed to contact FDR in 2017, I put five cards in the program and two have already been settled. Because I am disabled, I only get a raise, maybe, once a year, and, what it came down to, for me, was, do you want to continue to be an idiot, and dig the hole a little deeper,or, cut back on some things that you really don't need, increase my monthly deposit and trust that FDR is going to do what they said that they were going to do? And, to be honest, I trust FDR, more than I trust myself.
It has been a real learning experience, as well as, a process! I am very happy with all of the decisions that I have made from 2017 forward. There comes a point in time where you, or at least I, have to start making financial decisions based on want versus need. I am making progress in all areas of my life and I have Freedom Debt Relief to thank for that...

First settlement, although was disputed and needed to go through the attorney, has finally been completed. I feel relieved that this portion is done with a difficult creditor. Freedom Debt Relief and the Attorney advised that this creditor would be difficult so I knew to not expect anything spectacular. It is nice to know that Freedom has it in hand.

I'm in the process of getting two creditors paid off. It takes patience but I'm given updates periodically by FDR while they negotiate with my creditors. Sure, it gets to be nervewracking because you wait for results. The word PATIENCE is the answer. This is the first time I've done this and calls from creditors have to be anticipated. I just have to wait. It takes time but I'm hanging in there.

My husband has been disabled since 2005 as he has had 14 back surgeries and is a chronic pain patient. March 23, 2016 he had triple bypass surgery with lung complications. 2 weeks later, after coming home from the hospital, I knew I had to do something about our debt. Originally, I was very relieved. Thinking we would be paying off our credit card debt in a shorter amount of time. We were going from $1100.00 a month in payments to $550.00. This allowed us to quit having to charge groceries, medications, and necessities. The monthly fees and percentage they took when accounts were settled seemed a bit high. We also knew we would have to pay taxes on the forgiven debt.
In the beginning, we were told it would take us 4 years to pay off the debt. That sounded great. About a year in, we were contacted by C+ Lending, their sister company. If we went thru them, our debt would be paid off even sooner. Then we would pay C+ Lending. Their payment was going to be way too high, so we declined. We had to use the legal service once, and it was a 5 star experience. Probably, the end of Oct. or the beginning of Nov. I received an email from C+ Lending again. When I would log into our FDR account, the first thing I would see is that we could pay off our debt sooner with a C+ Lending loan. FDR was recommending us to do this, so maybe it will be a good move for us and our credit score. I returned C+ Lending's email.
After that came the aggressive sales pitch, of which at the time, I did not see it as that. I still thought FDR would not have recommended them if it was not in our best interest.. It took almost until the end of Nov. for everything to be ready for signing. I thought I was asking the right questions. 22% interest rate was really high, but the delinquent debt would be paid off. I knew we still would owe C+. It was a very hectic and busy time at work, Christmas was just around the corner, and I just wanted to do what was best for my husband and I. The C+ man was very aggressively pushing us. He and my husband even had some raised voices on the phone. So, me being stupid, and thinking FDR would not steer us wrong with their sister company C+ Lending, I gave in and had us sign.
Guess what, they resolved an account right away. Okay, I made the right choice. We will be paying them off in no time. Wrong, here it is almost April, and we have 2 accounts left in negotiation. FDR has charged us their monthly fees, and 20% of the total account balance for negotiating the accounts, plus C+ is accruing interest on the amounts they have paid off. I had printed off the signed paperwork at the time, but I had not looked closely at it, until about a week ago as I am wondering why are they not settling these last two as quickly. Knowing C+ is accruing interest on accounts they have helped pay off, as we are still paying our monthly payment of $550.00 to FDR, I wanted to see if I may have missed something else.
The documents stated it would take us 41 payments to C+ to pay them off. If we had stayed with FDR it would have been 30. "30" I thought, well of course, it is ALL just a predatory game. FDR gets thousands of dollars off of their clients, then they recommend their "sister" company, and stupid people like me, sign with the sister company C+ Lending, because it will be so much more beneficial going that route, and they make even more money off of you. After realizing this, way way too late, I contacted customer service with FDR. They said there was nothing they could do because we had signed. In the almost 30 years my husband and I have been married, we have made some bad credit card decisions.
We have also had to use credit cards just to make ends meet, due to medical bills and medicine. It is our debt to pay. I just think it is very sad that a company you are working with and paying for would lead you into acquiring more debt. We are where we are and will have to pay the high interest rate until the transferred debt is paid off, whenever that is going to happen. I have a "The Children's Place" credit card because of the 4 grandchildren we have. It gets paid off every month when and if I use it. We have learned our lesson and are still learning to pretty much trust no one. When I reviewed Freedom Debt Relief, they seemed like they were an easy company to work with and understanding. Then when I spoke with them, it turned out they really were. The sign up process was easier than I expected. They didn't make you feel bad, or they didn't make you feel like you kind of were a loser because you couldn't pay your bills. It impressed that whether it was email or a personal call, they would keep me up to date on what was going on when they came in with settlement offers.
The payment could have been lower. But I also understood that with the debt that we had, that was pretty much what we would need. They also advised us that we could keep some of the debt off. But the problem being if we did that, those people were gonna still harass us, and it would probably end up costing us more money in the long run. Freedom Debt Relief has done us right. We are almost to the point where we are gonna be graduating here in the next year. We feel like there’s been a big weight lifted off our shoulders and that we can breathe again. We are still paying some medical bills from when we had cancer. The medications is expensive, and the treatment in itself is very expensive even with insurance. But since working with Freedom Debt Relief, we now have some funds to be able to work with and do things with instead of feeling like every doctor that came in had to go out.

So far my debt is being reduced but the fees they charge are excessive as far as I’m concerned. I should of read the fine print closer. Everyone there has been extremely kind and helpful. No complaints there. Just the fees are outrageous. I could of had my debt paid off in half the time.

I had faxed in all the information that I had about a Debt that I had in January 2018. When the creditor indicated that I needed to send them a Power of Attorney I contacted Freedom Debt Relief. I had 3 conversations with 3 different people and got a different answer each time. Eventually I received an e-mail that said they couldn't add it to me dashboard. I am not sure if everything was looked at to make that decision.

I contacted Liberty in response to a mailer on debt consolidation loans and was discussing a debt consolidation loan with them. Every step of the way, this was described as debt consolidation, and I was told that my accounts would be closed and I would pay off the debt in installments. It was only by looking up external information on Freedom Debt Relief after the process that I discovered this was in no way a loan, and they actually wanted me to just default on my debt until it went into collections, at which point they would negotiate for a lower settlement (which I could have done myself).
I did not come to you to start missing payments and drop my credit score while you wait for my creditors to get impatient enough for payments to settle. I came for debt consolidation. This process was severely misrepresented. If you'd just told me upfront what you were actually doing for my accounts, I could've told you whether it was helpful for me or not, but you couldn't have that basic level of honesty. Extremely disappointing.
We apologize if the details of our program were not properly conveyed to you. Our debt consultants are trained to be transparent regarding the service we offer. We understand that our process is not for everyone and that it can take some time. It is also not a very easy one; but it does work. I am very impressed by the staff and the system, the only flaw was one of my debts almost got to court, and it could have been $2000.00 cheaper if acted on before the lawyers got it. We have received and sent to you a court hearing on the Sofi Account and also to NLLG. NLLG says they are not handling it, however we have paid monthly for this service and you guys continue to take money out of our checking account. Cannot get anyone from your office to tell us if we will have someone there to represent us or do we need to fire you and take care of the upcoming court ourselves on the 10 of April? I need to know something on this. Your people who answer the phone cannot seem to help with anything like this. Why is that? Who should we speak to concerning this? We spoke to Julian more than 10 days ago and he told us to call back in 10 days...but he is never there and does not return phone calls. Is he giving us the runaround and should we be concerned that nobody from FDR or NLLG will be there on the 10th for court?

To be bold and blunt, your company absolutely sucks. You settled two of my accounts for more money than what they were originally enrolled in the program for. This is not saving me money nor is it helping me. Your company has done nothing but hurt my credit rating and cost money. I was happy until the last settlement. I joined with a certain amount, now I fall short and I am in another program, more finance charges, no one has responded to me. I paid almost as much to settle this last claim than the payment itself. I feel that is not acceptable.

Citi Bank has twice made a settlement offer of 63%. I owe them $4,590. and they are offering to settle for $1,690. This is a great offer. I have more than enough in my dedicated account to cover this. I’ve sent this information to Freedom and I’ve spoken with a rep, to no avail. The current offer expires on April 2, I want to accept it! I’m frustrated and not happy with the way this has been handled.

No you did not help me. It was a big mistake on my part. I felt I was conned and you used my money for your profit. For more than $3000, you paid $500+ to one creditor and the rest went I don’t where. I won’t recommend anybody to go through this process.

I was so excited when my first settlement offer came in. That feeling quickly went away when I noticed how high the settlement fees FDR charges are. The settlement fees plus the settlement amount come out to be about the same as my starting balance was before I ran my credit to the ground in this program. Not happy and feel stuck.

FDR had contacted me to notify my former creditor that I was not filing for bankruptcy. After making a few phone calls, which seemed like I was sent on a wild goose chase, I contacted FDR again, and everything was taken care of.

I went into the program with 6 credit cards debts, by now I should have 4 resolved including the card ending in **. For almost a year if not that or more, I have been asking FDR to enter the card ending in ** in the resolved category and they refused through no fault of my own. They told that they had a $200 dispute with the firm. They settled the credit. I also got duped by them because they told me the program will take 46 months, it appears that it is 56 months, and the amount of money that I paid to date plus the amount remaining will be way more than the saving they promised to have. Due to fact that happens to me, I regret that I did business with FDR; and they don't resolve it, I am going to seek an out, and I hope that will be amicable if we part ways. Needless to say, I need some help from you with those intelligent businessmen who are taking for a ride.

This is a good program. I would like to see the creditors being paid off faster as finish date keeps going up. Fees paid out are the only thing that really goes high over the period of the program. Otherwise, very good.

FDR has been a Godsend for me. I got into debt way over my head due to circumstances in which most were my fault and some were not. Everyone was very understanding at FDR and the program is so affordable. Just pay the low deposit into your account, respond to settlement offers as FDR emails them to you and they do the rest. I reported that Zwicker law firm had taken over my Discover card debt immediately when it happened last year and apparently no action was taken or attention paid since it proceeded to lawsuit stage resulting in my having to pay $50 more a month I can ill afford toward debt settlement. I am so glad I paid an extra for the NLLG coverage or it could have been worse.

Best thing I ever did for myself. This company is true to their word. It program truly works. I am no longer overwhelmed getting calls from creditors who either hang up on me, or leave nasty messages on my phone, not to mention getting nasty messages via snail mail. This is a very reputable company. Freedom Debt Relief is helping me tremendously & I feel very fortunate to have them on my side. Working very diligently for me, always staying in constant contact, and their website is amazingly easy to navigate. Very knowledgeable, competent, and very professional. They have taught me a lot along the way to show me ways to deal with creditors, and also remain debt free once I truly am. I cannot say enough good things about Freedom Debt Relief.

The first representative lied to me seemed to rush me off the phone because of my request and claimed she sent it in an email within 10 seconds of me asking. The second representative had to spend a few minutes getting the email ready to send and seemed to make more sense. Seemed like the first didn’t want to take the time to deal with me.

Put credit in the toilet. You told me my credit would be temporary lowered it to years and still **. You will not contact my creditors like I was told. Go court sum-ins so lawyers were involved that cost me more money than the original amount. You are very bad...

I was in over my head in debt. I got in touch with this company and they have helped me so much. It is far better than bankruptcy and you can pay the people you owe something. I feel bad that I got behind on my bills but at least I am trying to pay them. If you need help with debt I would say you need this company to help you out.

I am mostly happy for the services FDR provides however, sometimes settling has taken so long that I end up owing more after a settlement has been reached than I did originally. Seems a bit useless in a situation like that.

Why are you setting up payments with a creditor when there is enough money in my account to pay it off for the negotiated amount right now. Fact of the matter is, there are 2 accounts like this. I have called and spoke with customer service numerous times about this. I CANNOT get across my sense of urgency regarding this and I am not getting the action I want. SOMEONE at the next level needs to take action and explain this plan to me. If the money is there use it!

I had Chase offer me a great settlement and I had to pull them out of the program because nothing was done and I settled it myself. You also mess up my settlement with State Farm because payment were not made on time and now I have another 7 months. I truly learn my lesson dealing with this company. Never will I never get in debt again. I was taught a valuable lesson.

Updated on 09/11/2019: I strongly advise working with ANYONE other than Freedom Debt Relief. I started working with them and everything seemed to be going well. They did reach a settlement for a few accounts, and I thought I was heading in the right direction. However, earlier this year in March or so I received garnishment paperwork for an account I had handed to FDR. According to FDR they did not have all the information for the account and were unable to get into any settlements. They claimed that they had tried to contact me about getting the account information but I do not have record of their attempts to contact me. Long story short, they did NOTHING to help. They forwarded me to National Litigation Law Group who FDR partners with and I had been paying for the legal services just in-case something like this happened. NLLG refused to help as well.
I was extremely upset and could not get any real help from FDR and just had to have my wages garnished. Well it's been 5-6 months now, just finishing that garnishment and I find out another account that I placed with them has gone into garnishment proceedings. I reached out to FDR and still have not heard anything back from them. The account that is moving forward with garnishment has been in FDR's hands since summer of 2017 is showing as "not ready for settlement" in my account. I managed to survive the first garnishment by clearing out my 401K and now I have absolutely nothing and am very frightened about the upcoming garnishment. I thought I would lose everything with the first garnishment and now I am certain I will lose everything with the 2nd garnishment. Really ANY OTHER COMPANY would have been better to work with than FDR.
Original Review: I am VERY upset with FDR. The salesman who I first spoke with assured me that working with FDR is the best choice to reduce debt and to avoid legal problems arising from accounts in collections. Well that is exactly where I find myself now. I received garnishment paperwork for an account that FDR was supposed to be servicing. I guess they did not start any settlement with the account that went to garnishment because the balance was higher than some of the other smaller items they were working on. FDR did settle a couple accounts for me and their settlement is $5 or $10 a month in order to stretch out the length of time you are in the program. Back to the account with the high balance that was pushed off and not worked on, well now 25% of my income is gone to garnishment for the next several months.
I also stupidly signed up for the legal services they offer and have PAID EXTRA to have on my account. The legal reps were very prompt in telling me they would not represent me and just pushed me back to FDR. After calling FDR AGAIN to explain the legal services dropped me, they said they would send my account over to another legal team and I would hear back in 3-5 business days, all while garnishment is looming ahead. A week went by with no word from FDR, I called back and was hung up on. Called back again and spoke to a very rude woman who gave me zero information at all. After getting more and more frustrated with her rude responses I spoke to a supervisor, who told me I needed something from the court. Nobody told me about this prior.
In the week of waiting to hear back and the 3 different conversations I had with FDR prior nobody told me to get these documents from the court. All the while FDR does not seem remotely concerned about the fact that my wages are now being garnished, I will need to drop out of school, and could be looking at eviction in the next few months. They were not apologetic and did not offer any alternatives, their only answer was "we haven't heard back" from the firm who filed the garnishment. The supervisor said she could see FDR reached out a week prior, but shows no other notes. They tried to reach out ONE time and never followed up again. They were very eager to work with me when I signed up and gave them permission to debit my bank account every two weeks, but now that my life is falling apart, they could care less. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!

I couldn't afford to pay my bills and Barbara on Sharks had suggested Freedom Debt Relief. They provide me with consolidation settlements and the quality of service was excellent. The payment plan was a little more than I wanted, but it worked. Plus, my consultant was knowledgeable and worked and communicated with me very well. I called because my account said action needed. One of my account numbers was entered wrong. The man I spoke to was very nice and re-entered my account number. But looking at my dashboard it still says action needed. So I wasn’t sure if my issue was resolved.

We had a lot of credit card charges from hospital bills and other stuff that I had. When we first went to Freedom Debt, they put it all together and consolidated the remaining balance that we had. I didn’t feel judged nor embarrassed that we had to do this because we never had to do it before. The reps were able to work with very well. Every time we had to contact them, their response was right away. I wasn't clear upfront on the charges that they took, but we were okay with everything and we finished with Freedom Debt. They said that I was eligible to go to Consolidation Plus. So, we’re really happy with it.
