Called Consolidated Credit to check on a payment to one of my credit card accounts because of a letter I had received stating it was not paid. The account in question was in fact paid on time. I was told my accounts are in good standing and to disregard the letter. Agent was very helpful!

My experience with Shemetras is the reason why I continue to do business with Consolidated. If it wasn't for her I would do business elsewhere with the services I received from the other employee whose name I quickly forgot. Consolidated is easily replaceable, but employees like Shemetras are not.

Bibi was extremely helpful in explaining the finer points of the program and helping to anticipate creditors' reactions to proposal, eliminating unnecessary balances or deferring them till later, helping me to understand how to protect my credit rating, and feeling really good about my account with consolidated credit. Be sure you don't let them fast talk you through the paperwork! They tell you there is a ten dollar fee per month, which is fine. They enroll you into autopay which they only tell you later is a five dollar fee, they won't accept checks - only money orders (which also cost money and can get lost in the mail). The woman advised me "You can't control the mail, what if your payment is late? You could be kicked out of the program." Then, you get your paperwork and they auto enroll you into a program which costs twelve dollars a month. Make sure you call to cancel! Long story short, loads of hidden fees, still looking out for more!

Fees for joining a debt management program vary state-by-state and can run up to $69 a month. Your fee of $27 per month in-total, including a rewards program that has discount tickets, insurance coverages and more (which you can cancel at any time) should provide you with a tremendous benefit. A debt management program usually ends creditor late fees and penalties while saving you at least three-times your monthly debt management program fee by having reduced interest rates. At the end of the program you should realize a significant savings that greatly outweighs the monthly fees. I'll start by saying that when I signed up for this program in early 2012, I had quite a mountain of debt. The first few months are a bit tough while negotiations with the various creditors are in progress, however CCCS was right along with me for those first few important steps. Their representatives are quite friendly and helpful. Fast forward to October 2015 and I've made my last payment! The great guys and gals over there helped make it happen for me and my family. If I can offer a word of advice though, it is to read the handbook completely. My final payment amount ended up being greater than what was actually owed. Unfortunately, I had to initiate contact myself today and find out that they would like to have that credit given a one-time donation as they are a not-for-profit company.
I would have known that if I'd read the handbook completely. The good news is that this is completely optional and they are in the process of crediting me the difference. Aside from this, the only sour thing I have to say is the rep was rather short with me and actually hung up on me after the third or fourth time that I had to explain that I could not donate that money at this time. At the very least, she did confirm that they will begin processing my credit before that happened. Other than that, it was a very positive experience from start to finish and would recommend this service to anybody regardless of debt amount and of course would be happy to donate one of these days when I am actually able to!

Elizabeth was very helpful and very knowledgeable. She had answers for all of my questions and explained everything. Elizabeth even gave me explanations to questions that I didn't think of at the time (things I needed to know about but did not ask). Overall Elizabeth was one of the best counseling assistants I have ever had the pleasure to talk with.

I have just completed my agreement (4 yrs) with Consolidated and I must say it has been a very satisfying experience. I was very skeptical in the beginning but chose this route as I could not see any other end in sight. My initial thoughts were - why should I pay a company to collect my money and pay creditors, I could do this myself. This was not the case since the creditors were not willing to negotiate a reasonable percentage rate to help reduce the burden. Your customer service has always been very professional and have promptly addressed any of my inquiries and requests. You may use these comments if you wish but please do so anonymously.

I didn't know if this was the answer I was looking for when I enrolled in the program with Consolidated Credit. However after months went by and the credit card debts went down just by making one (1) payment per month to one company I knew that I had made the correct choice to be debt free. Consolidated Credit made it easy to manage my account. I was able to speak with a service representative, track the payments and watch my debt disappear. I took the option of 5 years to pay the credit card debt but with Consolidated Credit I was able to be debt free in 3 and a half years. While making monthly payments, I was able to save money which allowed me to pay off my debt ahead of time. A BIG thank you to Consolidated Credit. I am debt free!!!

I was having in a debt situation where I was ready to give up and when I talked with Leslie today she ask me what was wrong. I told her I couldn't do it anymore and explain my situation to her and why I was having a problem. I told her it wasn't like I didn't want to pay my debt but couldn't. The way the first person I talked to and she explain to me not to give up and whoever I spoke to that they mislead me. I was told I had to pay one direct payment and it didn't always fall on my pay period and it was holding up my checks, putting everything else behind that I only live from paycheck to paycheck.
She explain other option I could do to help my situation that could help me and by the time I was finished talking to her it was like a big weight have lifted off my shoulders and I felt like I can do this. She is a very awesome counselor and help with all my debt situation, feeling very blessed to have talked to her. She is very inspirational, thanks again for everything you did that Leslie.

I put my information online to get a call. The customer care rep, was talking over me asking me the same questions over again. I told her I wanted to get information for someone who is in some debt because I would pay for the monthly service. She tells me when I say I don't have any debt "sorry ma'am then you're not available for our services." I hang up before she could finish talking, lost a customer before I even started.
We are very sorry that your interaction was not what you expected. Customer service is our utmost priority and our representatives should be courteous, professional and respectful at all times, no exceptions. We are not at liberty to discuss other people's debt situations, therefore you would need to get the person who you are trying to help, call one of our counselors directly. First off, I would like to say that I just started, hence the reason I put 5 stars (3 or less would damage the company's rep). Everything seems good so far. Once I get further into this, I'll post another review on how it goes and if Consolidated Credit actually helps. I do like what I'm hearing and reading so far! More pros than cons!

After explaining my financial situation to a "Consolidated Credit" counselor several years ago, I resolved the situation on my own. I have just discovered to my dismay, my personal checking account has been drawn on (without further contact from them) by "Consolidated Credit" to the amount of $49.00 a month for several years w/out my knowledge or consent. Do not give your personal information to this company. They will use it for their own gain. I ask, how taking money each month out of my personal account without any communication for years would help me to pay my debts? I ask Consolidated Credit, "Please show me my signature on your paperwork where I have authorized you to automatically draw on my personal accounts." Consolidated Credit, you have used my personal information for your own gain. To me, you are very dishonest, and represent what is the lowest in the USA.

My credit card debt went from over 17,000 to about 6,000 within the past two years even though I was unemployed throughout 1/2 that time and still kept up my payments. If it weren't for Consolidated Credit, my debt would have been far worse! Next debt to tackle, my taxes and student loan!

So far I have had a good experience working with Consolidated Credit and have seen the positive difference in my credit scores. I was able to raise my credit score about 100 pts since the start of using the program. They keep me informed and let me know when anything changes with my account.

I recently was referred to this company after I had applied for a loan to consolidate. I was not behind like many people, simply looking for help to get things paid off a little quicker. I was very skeptical because I knew a friend who had dealt with a similar company and had very poor results. Unfortunately, I am going to have to agree with him that these companies really aren't much help. The first person I talked to was very helpful and did well to try and help calm my initial fears of signing up for one of these companies. I was quoted initially a payment that was $40 less than what I was paying now. I understand this is just an estimation, but I figured at worse, it might fluctuate by $10 either way.
I signed up with the idea that this would help me pay off things even faster (Despite all the reviews I have read stating that often people view this company's almost as poorly as bankruptcy.). I receive further paperwork stating that my payment was now going to be exactly what I was paying before, which really does not do ANYTHING to help me. I understand it lowers the interest rate to pay it off quicker, but it shuts down the accounts and really has no other benefit. If I pay just a few dollars more a month than I am now, I can have it paid off in a year LESS than what they quoted me (Mind you, all of this started with only wanting to consolidate just two things to help pay off some deferred interest that was about to bill.).
Come Monday, I find that they had still billed me the $49 despite cancelling on Friday. They claim that it was billed on that same day, but regardless I cancelled. I was never told up front that this $49 was non-refundable, but supposedly hidden DEEP in their paperwork, it's noted that it cannot be refunded (Though after doing some research, I have seen it done.). Unless you feel like hurting your credit and more or less paying what you are now I would highly recommend staying FAR away from this company. It might help a small number of people, but obviously for me and many others, it's just another cycle of wasting money.

At the beginning of the debt management program, there is a lot of information to process. Please remember, however, that we covered all the things you mentioned before you started the program. Your payment may not have lowered, but your interest rates were lowered which is the most important factor in a debt management plan. Our program is designed to pay off the principal faster while keeping interest payments to a minimum by negotiating with your creditors to lower the rates. Each person’s situation is different and while most people experience a reduced minimum payment, yours did not change. Perhaps because you only have two debts, but please do not lose sight of the fact that your APR was substantially reduced which would have saved you a great deal of money in total.

Did not reduce my payments, actually went higher. Initial sign up, the senior advisor did not add one of my cards. Called back and had added to the account. Then they input the wrong amount owed AFTER I had just given them the correct amount. Had to call back yet again and get it straightened out. I made minimum payments on both cards since they were going to be late if I had waited for first payment to come out, called to give updated amount for both cards and was told that my payment to Consolidated Credit would not decrease before the first initial payment came out. So now I am stuck paying more to these guys, between card payments, fees and more fees, than if I had just stayed paying the cards and not use them anymore. Very unhappy, too many hidden things you don't know until you sign up. Would not recommend at all.

It is true that your payment did not decrease but please understand that credit counseling helps people pay their credit card debt, in full, within 3 to 5 years. Your creditors will help you to accomplish this by lowering your interest by a considerable amount. Each person’s situation is different and while most people experience a reduced minimum payment, yours did not change. This is because you only have two debts with medium to high balances. Because of this your payment increased by $2.00 but please do not lose sight of the fact that your APR is going to be substantially reduced, saving you a great deal of money in total and the goal is to help you to become debt free.
Your counselor actually did add the card you mentioned, but when we began to process your account our systems indicated the account number was incorrect. We then called you to get the correct number. Please also know that you will be using us to disburse payment on your behalf. This is why we advise you of when our system will send payment to your creditors. This way you have the opportunity to keep your accounts current if your finances allow. Please know it never had anything to do with our system sending payment late.
It is true there is a lot of information to give you and to get from you at the beginning of your debt management program. Please remember, however, that we covered all the things you mentioned before you started your program. I called Consolidated Credit and went through the whole process of signing up. I was given a monthly payment. Each time I got a call or email from the company, my monthly payment kept going up. I paid the $49 start-up fee. Before the company could take my first payment, I found another company with cheaper monthly payments. The company would not refund my $49.

I looked into consolidated credit and within 15 seconds of putting in my information my phone rang. Kind of made me worried. I spoke with a very nice gentleman named Dale who gave me some options and good info. He was very understanding when I told him my dad and I decided to try our own route of handling my debit and I will contact him if we changed our minds.
So whats my problem? MY PHONE HASN'T STOPPED RINGING! Consolidated Credit does not protect your information. My cell phone, my work phone, my house phone, my PARENT'S cell phones, nonstop! I was on vacation for a week and my phone constantly rang and rang and rang. I tried ignoring the calls but they just call right back. I left my phone in the hotel room for a few hours and when I came back I had 15 MISSED CALLS! They called me from 7am until 10oclock at night. RIDICULOUS! I have blocked these phone numbers every time but they call me back on a different number. I regret checking into Consolidated Credit now just because I am beyond annoyed with my phone constantly ringing. So unless you're up for answering your phone throughout the day, SAVE YOURSELF!

Four years ago I had $76,000 in credit card debt and was only going deeper. My payments to the credit card companies were out of control, and ate up a huge portion of my income. Today, I am one payment away from being debt-free, and that in spite of two layoffs. One of the best things about Consolidated was that I actually learned how to live within my means - vacations, holidays, and emergencies are all dealt with on a cash basis. After my last payment is made, I am looking forward to a huge "raise" and plan on building savings for emergencies.

Their customer service is lacking and at times bordering on rude. The standard answer to their question is, "That's not our problem." Customer service is very helpful and will bend over backwards to help you until you are a customer and then a different story. Also be cautious when starting. What they do not tell you can destroy your credit and cost you hundreds to thousands of dollars. Consolidated Credit will work up a payment plan then start taking money out of your account for those payments. They will then start negotiating with creditors, while they are taking and holding on to your money. This negotiation could take several months. During this period of time, even though they have taken and are holding your money, you are expected to continue to make payments on your accounts. Instead of negotiate with your creditors and then start taking your money. They do it the other way around.
They don't tell you this up front. I was even told by one customer service agent that they will now start making the payments on my behalf. After a month goes by I get letters from creditors regarding past due notices. Now I'm faced with larger than normal payments because of the past dues, late fees, not to mention an enormous hit on my credit rating for all the late payments. I just had a conversation with a customer service representative who kept stating over and over "That's not our problem" when I asked if there was any way to fix this with the creditors. I also found out, nearly two months into this, they are still negotiating with creditors and continuing to take my money without any payments to creditors being made. Very frustrated and disappointed. I am now financially in a much worse place than I was before I started working with Consolidated Credit. Not to mention my credit rating has plummeted. I need to say that I am debt-free and that feels amazing. This was only possible because of Consolidated Credit. Four years ago, I was completely broken and getting crazy about debts. I pay everything with credit cards included the college of my children. I can sleep due to hard pressure. Then, I saw and advice on TV and called the number provided, and YES it was Consolidated Credit. They explained me the whole thing, requested my information, only one letter and I get books for study how to prevent falling in debts, how to get financial freedom, and many other significant topics which help me to make plans for the future.
Consolidated Credit got lower the interests of my cards, made a plan of payments, never assign penalties when I failed to pay on time (few times) and always were available and friendly. I can't ask for nothing else although I did. Today I just completed the program and my debts got out. The feeling is so good that I want everybody know about. Please, if you feel that awful that I was four years ago, act know.

I pray my experience was a one-off problem. I dealt with this company in 2007, the representative was named Jerry. I remember him 7 years later because of his poor demeanor. My father had himself severely in debt (80k), the total to this company was owed around 5k (I no longer remember the exact amount, but in the scope of things it was fairly small). My father passed leaving my mother and I in a mess financially, but we had money coming from my grandmother's home.
Every company I called was willing to work with us either taking payments or just waiting until we could pay in full (a few even forgave the debt, or removed interest). When my mother got the bill from consolidated credit I called to question because we had never heard of them; at this point I do not know who I spoke with, I explained the situation; questioned what the company did; the same I had done with every other bill that had come in. The person I spoke with, unsure of how the account would be handled and advised us to send payment as usual, which we did.
Two weeks later (payment received, cleared and 'good'), the phone rang with Jerry on the other end. My mother passed me the phone (after a while I watched the ID to answer it). I explained I was the account holder's 17-yr-old daughter and that I was handling the social aspect of the debts while my mother did the financial. At this point he wasn't too bad, he informed us that since the account was in my father's name and he was deceased, the account would need to be paid in full immediately. That was the last remotely 'nice' thing he said. I explained the situation and was basically told he did not care what the situation was HE was to be paid NOW. I (perhaps unprofessionally, but I was 17) hung up on him.
He continued to call us everyday to be told the same thing, he would get his full payment less than 2 months from when my father passed (june to august), until then he had to deal with payments or nothing (we sent nothing out of spite for his attitude). He even went so far in one call to suggest that my mother and I go hungry in order to send him money (never the company, always him). Even once we told him the payment was in the mail, he continued to call everyday. He even called after the check had cleared on our end (meaning he was paid). At that point I threatened to get the police involved for harassment, never heard from him again.
This all happened so long ago now I doubt this charming man is still there; but I wanted to share my experience (I saw the commercial on TV which reminded me of its existence). As for ongoing service (assuming you don't plan on dying soon), I believe they are a good company. I didn't find anything in my father's files about issue with them, disputed payments or payments not received. The account seemed to be fair for the debts covered by it. I leave the 2 star rating because I am no longer angry (I never really was, just baffled that someone could act that way towards a 17-yr-old that had just lost their father). Dissatisfied covers it well.

After dealing with creditors who could care less about your financial situation, it's refreshing to work with someone who is trying to help you climb out of the debt hole. Consolidated Credit has negotiated better interest rates for me and set up a payment plan that works for my budget with the option of paying more whenever I have extra. I've never had a bad experience in the 6 or 8 times I've worked with Consolidated Credit over the phone and won't hesitate to call if I have questions.

I am wondering if I had the same representative that Debra of College Station, TX had. My experience wasn't much better. My representative was confrontational, condescending and unemphatic. Anyone dealing with a mountain of credit card debt and has called this organization obviously is seeking help. Being overwhelmed with debt is a very stressful situation. I did not like how I was spoken to by the representative and as such told her I would call back and deal with someone else because our conversation was not working for me.
Imagine my surprise, when I called back and she had done something in the system to BLOCK my calls. Now, when I call in, instead of being transferred to a representative as the automated system says I receive the "Goodbye" message instead. It is horrible that because I told her I did not appreciate what she was saying to me that she has taken it upon herself to hinder my chances of getting helped by this organization. It only takes one bad representative to taint the reputation of an organization!

I have been in Consolidated Credit Counseling Services for 4 years with one more year to go. It takes work and time to bring down debt. I didn't get debt overnight. It is many years and the non-ability to pay that got me deeper and deeper into a viscous circle that has some very serious consequences. I couldn't get loans because of too much debt. Credit scores were not great. In this program the debt is being reduced and my credit scores are climbing. I look at 5 years ago and where I am today. The longer in the program the more you see the improvement. Patience is everything.
They also sent me a free book and showed me places that I might be interested on their website. Good Stuff! ! I have learned a lot about paying in cash. Credit cards are for those who do not have money and impatient people. Take time to work the program and while there is frustrations, their counselors will settle things down when needed. They are there. No complaints. They get you the cheapest rates possible. What took me 15-20 years to make a mess out of things (the banks also helped too), will take me 5 years with Consolidated Credit Counseling Services to help me to the end to become free of credit card debt.

I didn't even get past the initial phone consultation. Person "helping" me was rude, impatient, condescending. Can't believe a company that is supposedly in the business of helping people can have people like her working for them. She didn't want to take the time to explain anything or answer any of my questions. I told her I didn't appreciate her attitude so I was going to investigate other options & she snapped at me in very rude tone "good luck with that!". I never use the "B" word about other women, but it is the only word to describe her.

I called the company a few months ago because my credit card balances were going up and I did not understand why. They told me that at first this happens because of interest so I let it go. Now, a few months later my balances have continued to go up. I have been paying them extra every month, and given them a note to state which credit card I want it to be applied to, only to find that this extra amount is not reflected in any of my statements. I have contacted the company, and because it is a Friday they are closed at 5. If I do not hear a response by Tuesday, I am cancelling my account and seeking legal action.
