I have received scammer messages since joining two days ago. I'm canceling my membership, pursuant to Cal. Civ. Code 1694.1. California law allows a three business day cancellation period for dating sites. Look at your state's law regarding canceling membership. Match.com is a waste of time, in my opinion. Save your money and join a social group.

Match.com is full of fake profiles and also scammers. I was taken in by a scammer and had a relationship with him for over a month and then he seemed to turn on me and sent me an indecent proposal. He is just an ignorant liar and total trash. Everyone, be warned. Stay away from this website! I actually felt I had to threaten him with Mafia justice, so I did. He had not asked me for money yet but he was working up to it. His reason was going to be that he was in medical need. I let him know that I was not rich and didn't have any money. He became angry and insulted me. The people who run this website do not care what happens!

This is by far, not only the worst dating website, but the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. My story is similar to the ones below. I paid for it, it sucked and they're a "non refunding company." Let me just save you some time and anger. Don't call Match, they are a bunch of slime balls. Call your bank and dispute it. Even if your bank can't get your money back... Match.com is charged a dispute fee. That makes me feel slightly better. Tell everyone you know. #match.comistheworst

Match.com harbors a fraudulent group when you talk to someone who saves you as a favorite claims to be from Ghana. This fraudulent group accumulates funds for illicit purposes with Match.com harboring them. Are they a terrorist group? What are these illicit funds accumulated through the guise of Match.com being used for. When you file a complaint against a user Match.com does nothing about it. I filed approximately 10 reports of fraud and they did NOTHING. Out of the 1st 15 times I was emailed by one of their fraudulent users all were from Ghana. My experience was ruined by Match.com's harboring of these fraudulent users asking for money.
It's the same story. "I grew up in the USA but my father or mother died and now I am in Ghana. Is distance a problem to find true love?" None of them speak proper English and have a picture of a beautiful woman. All of them send you compromising photos of themselves, another violation of Match.com's terms. However, along with the fraud they also allow this too. I was discontinued due to my complaints and their refusal to fix their rampant problem under the guise EXCESSIVE UNWANTED COMMUNICATIONS TO ANOTHER MATCH MEMBER GENERAL REPORT. Need to subpoena Match.com, llc to get the information for my dismissal. I never emailed any member excessively and never received any warning, only dismissal saying I would not get my money back. I'm innocent. I did not do this.
Match.com is a company who harbors fraudulent activity from a group NOT from the USA and when you file a fraud complaint NOTHING is done about it. They do nothing to eliminate these frauds and allow them to operate illicitly on their site. Is it ISIS??? What is this money collected used for with Match.com harboring them. This group is making millions of American dollars while Match.com allows it. As a matter of fact are they in on this and receiving a cut for allowing them to operate on their site? I asked all these questions to Match.com in my fraud reports to be shunned by their so-called "security". Lol.
I was not able to give this site of zero stars or a negative number but this would have been accurate. Prosecution by the proper authorities with refunds to all members in a class action suit would be just. If there are any lawyers who have integrity and wish to make Match.com pay all members all their assets to shut this site who harbors fraudulent activity please email me and we will subpoena all my fraud complaints and text with these Ghana members and shut this accessory to crimes again people down for good and everyone will receive their money back along with more for the crimes Match.com committed. I subscribed for 6 months and used the site and did not find my match. During the 6 months I travelled abroad to volunteer and travel for a month and did not have consistent internet. My contract was automatically renewed for a high price when I returned. When I saw it on my credit card statement and called about it they said that I did not qualify for their 6 month guarantee because I did not email a certain number of people a month.
I didn't think that there were strict requirements and could not find their guarantee requirements in my email. I asked when they emailed the requirements to me and they said it's on their site. I said that I'm on their site and don't see any guarantee rules. They kept telling me to click on things and never could get to any page that outlined whatever rules there are. Now I'm charged a $150 for 6 more months instead of getting it free. And I still don't know what their guarantee requirements are. I took a screenshot because the lady kept telling me to click on a guarantee button that does not appear when I log in on a Mac in Chrome. Don't sign up, it will be too frustrating.

I thought I would try out Match.com and I chose the discounted rate of three months per recommendation from the website. I paid for the service without any message saying that the amount is not refundable. I didn't like the website at all. I cancelled the 3-month membership 1 month in and that is when I was told that they don't give out refunds! I am telling everyone about this experience in hopes to ruin Match.com or have them change the policy. I have also contacted my bank and made a dispute of the charges.

I have used this service for just short of 3 months. I did cancel the auto renew and confirmed it. For those that say they were billed after they canceled, I'd say it is tricky to cancel and there are a bunch of times to click. You're sure at the end while they beg you to stay with special offers. A suggestion to those that tried to quit, call your bank and explain. They will get your money back or you should find another bank.
Ok, when I first joined I was inundated with scammers. One after the other all day long. I soon learned how to spot them. Only one photo, almost nothing filled out, except a description barely in English of how they are a 20 year old goddess looking for a man twice their age. Hint, if they have the age set up to the max (I think it's 70) they are almost surely fake if they are below about 60. To be honest, I complained a lot and reported all the scammers and the onslaught did slow to a trickle. I did find that most of the profiles on there are old and abandoned. They try to trick you because when they show a daily match, they hide the time since last log in (unless it's very short, then it shows).
They also hide the age range they are looking for. I'm 44. If I go back and use the name search, I can see most of my "matches" have not been on in more than 3 weeks (the longest they show) and aren't looking for someone over 30. None of the people "picked especially for me" match what I'm looking for. I said no smokers. Almost every one says smokes daily. And other mismatches.
The thing that really annoyed me though is that after I canceled the renew, and my subscription got about 2 weeks from the end, they started sending fake reports. I'd get 2 or 3 emails every day saying someone matched with me and a message is waiting, urging me to renew so I can read it, it might be the love of my life. I guess their system isn't smart enough to know I still have access for 2 more weeks and can log in to see no one is there. No message is waiting. This is the same trick they pulled to get me to join in the first place. That is unethical and earned them a negative report.
I did meet 2 people in the 3 months. One was a lunatic who went crazy and stalked me until I filed a restraining order. The other was a nice person but didn't match what I was looking for and that was about it. I chatted with maybe 3 other people that weren't fake. I got about 100 emails from fake scammers. Overall, I'd recommend trying somewhere else. I suspect since they cut off the scammers when I complained hard enough, they are internal workers at match keeping people interested. I can't prove that, it's just a guess.

I had a match account for 3 months and then it auto-renews. I cancelled prior to the auto-renewal timeline, but was still charged after the cancellation. Not only was I charged once, but twice. I tried to call them, but was put on hold forever so I gave up and called my credit card company to dispute the charges. Well since Match took money from me, I thought my account was open. When I tried to log-in, they had "suspended" my account and after several calls to "customer service" which I presume is in another country I was told that they couldn't help me.
I tried sending several emails and finally heard back and basically was told that since I initiated a dispute, they were charged a fee for this (after they scam others out of their money). So I'm still out for 3 months worth and will be contacting my credit card company to try and recoup the rest of my money. I refuse to ever use this service again. There are so many scammers on the site and in some cases - married...

It's amazing how this company can get away with their policies on cancellation. Three months after selecting "Do Not Auto-Renew" on my member profile, I get a charge to my debit card for $119. When I called and explained the situation to them, they said they can only refund $67.98 of that. Mind you, I called the day I noticed the charge to my bank and I haven't used my Match.com account in a few months. Andy, the Customer Service rep even admitted this to me as he looked at my login history. I informed Andy that I did not receive an email or any notification that my account was auto-renewed. He also admitted that I have barely even used my account.
When I asked to talk to Andy's supervisor, he informed me that he is a supervisor and there is no one else for him to transfer me to that can waive the entire amount. I asked for the name of his own supervisor and he said he is not allowed to give out that information. This is the second time this same problem happened to me using Match.com and I know of several friends who have had similar problems. Bottom line: I took the refund for $67.98. The remaining balance of $51 goes to Match.com for services that I can't even use because my account is cancelled.

I asked to speak to their supervisor, they said the supervisor would say the same thing. Then I was put on hold for another almost hour before I gave up. Poor Poor service. Match is designed to scam people out of their hard earned money. I had to contact my bank to cancel any more payments to Match. I finally had a chance to speak with a representative in "Costa Rica". They insist that once they take your money it's your problem. I suspected that Match was doing this to other people. So here I am sitting here feeling foolish like many others searching for answers. This company is an absolute scam. If you value your money, do not utilize this service. I, among many others, was charged the auto renewal fee of 119 equaling 171 Canadian dollars. I have barely used this service because of the fake profiles and scammers. I was charged on December 30th, did not receive an email to notify me of this (as this is their policy in order to swindle it by you). I received my VISA statement January 6th with this charge. I called hoping for some help as I lost my job earlier this year and can't pay the fee. I was told that I could have refunded the day before or after the charge. Without the email how am I supposed to know? They were rude, and incompassionate. They are down to the bottom dollar and don't care about the customer. Please do yourself a favour and do the research from this thread alone. You will be swindled out of your money through auto renewals and charged even after you cancel.

This match website is a scam. The site is using baiting as a means to get one to subscribe to their service. I got an e-mail from the company saying that somebody had added me as a "favorite". When I clicked on the button to find out who that "person was" I was directed to the subscription page, and was informed that in order to find out who this "person" was, I needed to subscribe to the service. I subscribed to the service, and then when I went to my account page to find out who had added me as a "favorite", the message I got is that "nobody has added you as a favorite". If nobody had added me as a favorite, who was this "fantasy" person the e-mail was talking about???!!! Just a scam to get one to subscribe to their service. Classic bait trick. I was auto-renewed to Match.com, and of course they do not give you a courtesy email to see if you want to stay on. There are very few members near me and I am disabled. I cannot drive more than 10-15 miles without my legs hurting due to having a liver transplant and subsequent neuropathy. There is no way I can date someone 30 miles away - the smallest amount of distance they give you. So I requested to have my money refunded, explaining my disability and Match who puts "We Care" on their website will not refund my money. I think there needs to be a law to ban automatic renewals unless they notify you and you respond that you do or do not want to be renewed.

Several years ago I joined Match.com to see if I'd have any luck. Encouraged by their six-month guarantee, I made sure that I met all the necessary requirements to qualify for the free six-month extension if you don't meet anyone (you have to have actually tried to meet people, which they base on how many emails you sent out/replied to/etc). After six months I hadn't met anyone, but even though I had met all of the requirements for the free renewal, Match still charged me the full renewal rate. I called to have this corrected, they refunded my money, and it went pretty smoothly from there. After the second six months I still hadn't met anyone, so I cancelled my membership and was done with it.
Fast forward to about seven months ago. I'd moved to a new town and thought I'd give Match another try since it was a new group of potential dates. At the end of six months, however, I hadn't met anyone (to be fair, this time it was a lack of initiative on my part), so in early December I cancelled my membership a few days before the deadline, and once again I was done with it...or so I thought. I checked my credit card statement this weekend and was surprised to discover a $119.98 renewal charge on my credit card. I contacted Match.com's customer support through their online chat help and explained that there had been a mistake. "Wilfredo **" informed me that because I had received a refund in the past (remember when they didn't give me my free renewal that I qualified for years ago?) that I could never again be eligible for a refund.
I explained that I was refunded the money before because of a match.com error, and that this situation AGAIN was a match.com error, and that I shouldn't be charged over a hundred dollars for their mistake. He was very unsympathetic and just said, well that's the policy. I asked to speak to someone above him, but he refused and disconnected me. At this point I was very angry because I've never been treated this way by a company, not even credit card or cable companies. So I decided to call and speak to a live person, hoping I would have better luck there. After waiting on hold for 45 minutes (again, worse than a cable company), I finally reached a person. She was much more polite than the guy I dealt with online, but equally rigid in her refusal to grant a refund. She explained that it was my fault I hadn't received the free six months in the past because it isn't granted automatically, even if you meet all of the qualifications.
You have to specifically request it (which they do not make clear). And this time, even though I had gone through the cancellation process, went through all of the pages where it asks you why you're leaving and what they could have done better, and declined their offer at the end for a discounted renewal, apparently I must have still missed some final confirmation (I don't know if I really did or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if they make the cancellation process as drawn out as possible in a way that's intended for you to make mistakes). In other words, she blamed it on me. Kudos to her for calmly listening to my rant after that, but ultimately I knew I was talking into the wind because she wasn't going to help me anymore. The no refund policy is very explicit, she explained. So now I'm stuck with another six months of a terrible service even though I thought I did everything I was supposed to do to get rid of it.
I can only conclude that Match.com is out for your money, and they make the process as confusing and difficult as possible so that they can catch you on technicalities and thus rob you of hundreds of dollars, knowing there's not a thing you can do about it. All I can do is warn other people DO NOT subscribe to this service because they will rip you off and then blame you for it. They have zero concern with customer satisfaction; it's all about how they can trick you into paying for an extended subscription. Very unethical practices by this company. One last note, when I told Wilfredo C. that I was going to let people know how terribly I'm being treated by Match.com, he responded "That's fine!" (demonstrating how little they care if you're a satisfied customer--they're just going to steal your money anyway). So I'm doing what I said I would and spreading the word--don't subscribe to Match.com!

I joined Match.com 12/31/15. As soon as I finished my profile I started getting Winks, Picture Likes, Profile likes and requests for Chat. I kept being asked to leave the site and go to Skype, Yahoo. I would ask about where the profile said they lived at and received 15 (YES) 15 respondents saying they were studying or living in GHANA. The second day, I received 13 more from the same place. As soon as I connected I would ask them "Are you in GHANA"? they would disconnect right way.
The profiles all said looking for 35-55 Male. They would all say "Hello Handsome, what are you looking for on this site?" I reported all those profiles and blocked them all. Match.com must be aware of this and should do BETTER job warning people about this and take responsibility for this before getting our money. I keep getting all sorts of emails from match.com, that so and so wants to meet me, notification of matches who have sent me emails, winks, etc. even though I canceled my account several months ago! I know that this is an attempt by match.com to make previous members join again, but this is not my complaint. I realize that my profile is still up on this dating site, which is frustrating.
My complaint is besides being annoyed with all the emails from match, is that I remember some matches on match.com (when I was still a member) telling me that they joined match because they saw my profile and wanted to meet me. If my profile and other canceled members' profiles on match are still up and running on match, then this is a sure scam. This kind of practices encourages people to join match based upon false promises that they might be able to meet the person they joined match for when the truth is that the person they joined for is no longer a member, and match.com knows this! My complaint with Match.com is a bit more serious. I signed up to just try it out two days ago, on December 27, 2015. I received messages from no less than 10 different people with these kinds of remarks anyway, within a 48-hour period. Of course, Match.com would not do anything about it.
I completely understand that members can be blocked or reported, but the fact that this happens in the first place is a serious issue. If this same kind of harassment happened toward women (or anyone) in the workplace, for example, it would be a potential lawsuit. Do I have a case against Match? I am going to my bank tomorrow morning, and I will be calling my news station, as well as driving down to the courthouse. I cancelled my subscription via Match.com website. Match billed me for another 3 months. Match says I didn't cancel. They refuse to refund. Somewhere around Nov 31 to December 1 of 2015 I cancelled my subscription to Match.com via their website. During the cancellation process Match offered a discounted rate of around $39.00 to not cancel. I declined the offer as I didn't want to continue at this time. I was then brought to a page telling me that I had 3 days to accept the offer if I were to change my mind and continue my subscription at the discounted rate. It also basically said it was sorry to see me leave.
At the last page of cancellation process I felt that everything was taken care of. Few days later while looking at my Credit Card info on Capital Ones webpage I noticed that Match.com had a pending charge of $68.97. I immediately called my Credit Card company and told them that the transaction was not approved by me and that Match.com had been cancelled and should not be billing me. They told me it had to go through and we could dispute it later if it does go through. Once the transaction did go through I contacted Match.com again via e-mail and they said I did not cancel and they required a cancellation confirmation number. I told them I never received one nor saw where I should. They refuse to refund the amount even though I cancelled online. I then went back to my account and saw that it was active again so I shut re-cancelled. They now say I cancelled too late and I must pay for the subscription.
My theory is that they had a computer glitch in the system that did not log my cancellation prior and refuse to accept that I did cancel. I sent several e-mails to them explaining the process and pages that I received during the process. They refuse to even discuss the problem and only want to close the process and force me to pay them. I have filed a dispute with my Credit Card Company GM Capital One and they are doing their best to correct this for me but I feel that it may also fail as Match.com says we have to submit the confirmation number that they claim I should have received that I did not. I cannot submit this confirmation number if they never sent one to me due to their system not logging the cancellation. I am very disappointed in their customer service in resolving this matter. I submit this complaint due to their negligence in trying to remedy the problem. I hoped that they were more responsible in taking care of their customers.
Updated on 05/21/2016: My credit card company and I disputed the charges and they were forcibly reversed as Match.com did not respond even to them. So as far as I am concerned the matter is closed. I also will never do business with them again. Also, it is very suspicious that the credit card info they had on file at the time has fallen into the hands of criminal activity. My card fortunately was already cancelled and void before a fraudulent purchase was attempted or succeeded as my Credit card company caught it in their fraud dept and contacted me immediately. I have no proof that Match is responsible for the security breach but it is interesting that only 2 merchants had this information. One that is nationally acclaimed and secure and the other Match.com. Hmmm... Makes you think...

I am a paid member to the website Match.com. For 6 weeks I have been receiving inquiries from what I am assuming a sister site talkmatch.com. I have been getting notice after notice from my site match.com about all of these women's interest but when I try to see their profile my site doesn't have the information to give. They tell me to try another profile like hers. For one I have not been able to see her profile and why do I want to look elsewhere when supposed this profile is interested. This brings me to my concerns, at this point I'm thinking that the profiles are fake. So I contact customer service to find out first who talkmatch was and why do their members have access to my profile but I cannot find or see theirs. I was talked into a circle so that he may avoid answering the question, so I see I'm not getting anywhere so I ask him about profiles contacting me but I cannot answer them, he tells me that security must have blocked their profile.
After going in numerous circles and getting absolutely no answers I logged off on him. I am on Mobile internet so I started digging into page after page and all the reviews and I finally found half of what I was asking customer service. Almost 2 hours digging I found that these profiles are all hidden profiles. With that being said now I know why I cannot see or have any info. on these profiles. Why did I have to do all the legwork to answer my own question about getting info on the profiles. That should have been a simple answer for customer service to answer for me instead of trying to convince me that it was security. Still unanswered is the fact that this talkmatch.com site has access to my profile and I have no access to any profiles from that site.
My other main concern is that I am involved in a total take your money for free scam. It is easy for this website to create another to scam you. As of now 6 weeks into a purchased 3 month membership I have not been able to a make or have any contact with any hidden profiles. Those are my main concerns that I have with match.com and their customer service department.

So once again Match proves just how unprofessional it is as an organization, by not having the courtesy of replying to my emails sent to their customer service department in regards mainly to a message I received from them advising they had received a report that I had sent unwanted and harassing messages to a profile, which was totally untrue as the so called report was from a fake/false/scammer profile who didn't like being taken to task in regards to the stolen photos and text used in "their."
But instead I find with no notification that my profile has been suspended/deleted and then that I have even received a full refund of the subscription again without any prior communication, even though when I requested a refund a few weeks ago due to Match.com in my personal opinion not delivering the service as outlined by them, and continually allowing an overwhelming amount of repeat false/fake/Scammer profiles to appear on a daily basis, I was advised no, I was not entitled to a refund as I had already sent an email...
Great work Match.com. At least it saved me from deleting my profile myself as it has become plainly obvious in my opinion that the Match.com organization not only allows the false and fake profiles to continue to appear, they seem to encourage them and then take the word of Scammers rather than that of an actual subscriber when they actually stand up to one the Match.com Scammers and takes them to task in regards to the stolen photos and profiles. An example of the level of Scammers/false profiles... On Match.com (Australia) there is currently 457 profiles of females stating they live in Adavale, Queensland... which would be fine but for the fact that Adavale, Queensland is a very isolated and very small country town that currently it has a total population of 15. YES! 15 and of course when you point this out to Match.com you receive no reply at all, no matter how many emails you send.
It could be an interesting point to find out how in legal terms if Match.com is in part liable for breaches of international copyright laws by continuing to allow the same stolen photos to be used time and time again when it would be so easy to stop the practice by introducing profile verification procedures before a profile is allowed to go live. Many other sites do it, why not Match.com. There is also face and photo recognition software that would make it easy to detect any photo or photos that are repeatedly used. Hell, the hundreds of profiles I personally reported were "found out" by a simple Google Image search... One very unhappy previous subscriber.

When I called to point this out and receive a refund within 24 hours, I was told it's IMPLIED that other customers can't respond if they didn't have a paid membership. I canceled on 12/17th because the site is overwhelmed with commercials, pop ups and deceiving advertisements which make it difficult to browse the site. On top of that, my mailbox is filled with hundreds of emails from fake profiles and men asking me to send them money and questionable requests. I asked for a refund and I'm being told I cannot get a refund or any type of credit. This is very disappointing and Match.com is a scam and a trap. Match.com is one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. Once you pay them, they just use your credit card without your permission. I cancelled after my trial membership and they just kept charging me. I hid my profile, told them I had found someone, and completely stopped using the website, but still got emails and got charged. When I called for a refund (which took FOREVER to speak with someone) they just kept telling me that I renewed (I didn't) and they refused to refund me. I finally called my credit card company, who said a lot of people have this issue with Match.
My credit card resolved the charges yesterday, but at the same time they were resolved, Match released my credit card info and I had to cancel my credit card because someone in Panama kept using it - starting RIGHT after I got the email from my credit card that I would get a refund from Match. I know it was Match.com who was involved in the fraudulent activity. I never had a problem with my credit card before and they are a sneaky, awful company. Shame on them!

This site has so many upgrades to enhance one's profile that never helped do anything. I am an attractive individual. I received likes from certain ladies that were most likely not real. Most of these dating sites only give you positive feedback when you are not yet a consumer. Similarly to the gambling industry match.com is a fix. There are numerous fake profiles that when there are mutual likes lead to nowhere. 3 months on this site and with numerous enhancements I received a handful of responses. I have gambled in casinos and found that I had better odds than on match.
Do not fall for this site. It is designed with numerous scams. I even had a Russian bride scam result from my membership. I wasted a lot of time and money. The money I don't care about it's the time I will never get back that counts. I do much better using more traditional methods such as simply talking to another woman in person striking up random conversations. Also the women on this site must be looking for handsome millionaires. If you expect to find someone on this site you have to realize that people's expectations are ridiculous and naive here. It doesn't help that none of the women are willing to respond. Too many fake accounts that are taken down on a daily basis.

After waiting 48 hours for the Customer Service Center business hours, I waited on hold and was told by the person that answered that they couldn't give me an explanation. Instead, I was instructed to wait 72 hours for an email from Match about the situation.
I don't know how things will turn out, but you, dear reader, can well imagine how I feel. Match is about connecting people to form real relationships. Based on this experience, I am left with the impression that there aren't any real people making up the company, just systems and algorithms. I'm lucky to have friends on Match who can contact the few people I was having conversations with on my behalf. They deserve to know why I disappeared (well, even I don't yet know the real reason) and to have another way to contact me if they wish. It wouldn't occur to me just to drop off a conversation or end a relationship with ANYONE, especially a customer, without the courtesy of a personal communication. I called Match customer service (which appears to be a call center somewhere overseas) and they were VERY RUDE. Each person I spoke with had an accent and was very difficult to understand. I asked to cancel this Renewed subscription and refund my money, only to be told that they could only refund $29.98. This is completely unacceptable - only 10 hours prior they could take my money and now they can't refund the whole amount.
The 'girl' said there is nothing she could do, which is what she is told by her upper management!!! I asked to speak to her supervisor - which took over 20 minutes to get on the phone - and she told me that her supervisor will tell me the same thing. Marlene was the supervisor's name, and she was equally RUDE and very hard to understand and told me the same load of crap. Match.com steals your money and are more than happy to do so. I signed up as a member assuming I would be able to write members and non-members and that ALL of them could reply. I was not aware non-members could NOT reply without either buying a membership or me paying for a feature I was not aware of. The Feature page does NOT anywhere state non-member. It says anyone which DID NOT make sense to me as I assumed Match would be like other sites and allow anyone to reply to a message that a Member paid to be able to send. Not understanding this, I clicked Continue. I was unable to contact customer service as I could not get into the help page. The Button labeled Guarantee They'll Read It did not work. Clicking this link to the Feature page on a send message page did NOT WORK. Because I was unable to learn about this feature since it did not work I did not discover it until a day after. I literally called Match on the phone about the help page not working.
If I had been able to learn before the three days were up I would have cancelled my subscription. I would still like a refund as the service has not worked in any way yet, despite 26 messages written had a single positive reply. Contacting them has gotten me nowhere - they hung up after trying to discuss the fact their Terms of Service does not contain anything about this 'feature'. Calling back only resulted in them Cancelling my account without a refund. I never requested it be cancelled - I clearly stated, "I would like a refund and then you can delete my entire account since it has never resulted in a single positive reply." The 'Sorry to see you go' email stated it was valid until 5/30/2016. Kind of an insult for them to Cancel it just because I asked for a refund.
Details about this situation. History: I had been a member in 2000, and learned they changed their policy from non-members being able to reply to a member initiated message to requiring non-members join to be able to reply to members messages. This stole 3 months of the service I had paid for- eliminating many from being able to reply to my messages. I signed up as at the time all non-members could reply- I knew this and that was a contributing factor to my membership. Well, I met a paying member and that match failed. We were not compatible and divorced.
Considering it is 15 years later and all dating sites I am aware of do not require non-members to pay to reply to a member initiated email- I didn't even think about it- just assumed Match had joined the group and so I clicked through the options page where it is worded: "Guarantee anyone can reply to your emails." Nowhere does it state 'Select this feature to allow non-members to reply to Members' and since it said nothing about non-members, I ASSUMED it was some fancy Member feature like highlighted profiles, etc and ignored it.
Only after did I learn I had to pay for a non-member to reply and from what I can see there are two places. The first on the Send Message page- another button that states "Guarantee they'll read it". Two problems with this. That statement is a lie. There is no guarantee anyone will read it if I pay for that service. It only guarantees they 'can' read it. False Advertising. Secondly, when I signed up clicking this button did nothing. I learned later some Javascript bug also blocked my HELP page. I could not view my Help page at all. SO technically this option was not available to me. After clicking Send- the second- a square advertisement stating the same. Clicking that took me to the feature page. Now, only then did I put the two items together and realize they are still blocking non-members from replying, and worse want another $9.99/month for me to be able for them to reply. I feel seriously cheated and conned.
Looking at their Terms of service nowhere within it does it say anywhere that a Member must purchase an additional service for non-members to contact them. What I did find was an amendment to their original Terms which would have given back those 3 months that were blocked in 2000 when they changed their policy. RESPONSE- Wrote a detailed message, automated reply with no help whatsoever. Replied to the automated reply, nothing.
Called and talked for an hour with customer service, and then a 'Supervisor' who like the other, just kept repeating that I have to pay for a non-member to reply even though it does not state 'non-member cannot reply to a Premium'. I kept stating this fact that nowhere does it say a non-member cannot reply to a paid membership, even in the Terms of service. His reply was 'anyone' means non-members. Why not just state this then, be honest. Well, they want to sign up then realize this and be forced to give them more money. Hung on by the Supervisor... Match.com's Terms of Service does not describe this feature. There is NO content about non-subscribers or non-members beyond the below.
Portion of Terms of Service: "The subscription policies that are disclosed to you when you subscribe to the Service are a part of this Agreement. Absent special offers, you acknowledge and agree that if you are (I) not a subscriber, you will not be able to use all the features and services available within the Service, including communicating with other Members, and (II) a subscriber, non-subscribing Members will not be able to use the Service to communicate with you. A Member profile (both subscribers and non-subscribers) may remain posted on the Website even if that Member is not actively using the service. You acknowledge that although a Members profile may be viewed, you may not (even as a subscriber) be able to use the Service to communicate with that Member if he or she is not then actively using the Service."
As someone born in the U.S. with a Bachelors degree who has a good understanding of English this sentence sounds to me it is clearly saying what I would expect any site to say: a non-subscribing Member will not be able to use the service to communicate with me. This makes sense as it would apply to a non-Member initiating a conversation. And technically - it does state, in clear English 'with me'. It DOES NOT state as a paid member that I cannot 'communicate with them'. It does not state they cannot read my message. It does not say anything about replies to messages received from members. This does not tell me in any fashion that a non-member cannot reply to a conversation initiated by a Member. All of the other dating sites allow non-members to reply to members. I assumed Match had followed the same premise and removed this problem. Instead, they are capitalizing on this deception.

Think of what this means to a large company being promised 10,000,000 eyes, when only 3,000,000 are there any longer. This was the way they worked 5 - 10 years ago and still do. In addition, they don't like your interaction with other members - i.e. you have "words", you get bounced or both of you. No "appeal"; your subscription gone and your money. Match.com automatically renewed my 113 dollar 3 month membership. That's fine, but when I called to get a refund the next day after them charging me, the customer service agent refused to refund my money, even if I didn't use the site. This is not a legit company. They have shown that they put profits over people, and I can't wait for people to eventually use other sites. Sucks that people mostly use match, especially given that the site isn't even set up in a smart efficient way. Only thing it has going for it is the large amount of people who flock to the site, so more people to choose from.

I joined match.com over a year ago. In that time my profile was viewed over 4,000 time -- not necessarily by 4,000 men. Of those 4,000 views I got two dates with one man. Match is not responsible for me being unappealing to the men on the site. This week I decided to purchase "top spots" and spent $50 for them. This WEEK my profile was viewed over almost 2,000 times. I got more likes and winks than ever. However, most of these were from whom that live in other states or don't match up with me at all. My profile was viewed by more men as they promised but they don't tell you that most of the men that will see your profile are not good matches for you. Plus, the same men show up several times in the list of additional men that have seen my profile.
Lastly, I spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars for my profile to be view 4,000 times over more than a year. Then this week I spend even more money and NOW I get almost 2,000 more views. What did the hundreds of dollars get me? What's the point of showing my profile to men that live far away, are too old or too young or don't match up with many of my requirements? Again, I don't blame Match for me not attracting a mate, but I blame them for not providing me with enough opportunities to meet the right men. Disappointing. Terrible.

I called the fraud section of my bank (I was using a debit card), they auto-refunded me and cancelled any future transactions with Match.
To help with your case, DO NOT USE YOUR ACCOUNT WHEN THEY AUTO-RENEW IT. Apparently once you cancel they have hidden clauses in irrelevant sections on other part of the sites, which if you miss apparently opt you back into subscription (how unethical is that!?). On the day my account was due to not re-subscribe it read "0.00 due to come out account." Phew I thought, my cancellation is still in order, nothing is coming out. They still take your money! Rep looked at my account and said, August 6 you updated to not renew then put me on hold for a while. I figured he saw the glitch in their system and was going to fix it. He came back and said he hid my profile and canceled my subscription.
I asked about refund and he said no, he wasn't refunding me. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She told me the same. Said because I didn't "cancel" my subscription, they billed me. I asked what the purpose of putting the option to not automatically renew was on there if they were going to bill me anyway. She wouldn't answer that question, just said I need to cancel. I had joined Match.com on a one-month trial basis. Somehow, I felt this site could not be as bad as the many, many bad reviews would suggest. So, with a sense of fairness in mind, I said to heck with it and let's see what happens. There are times when in dealing with businesses that we all truly understand they are all trying to make a buck. Whether that is Walmart.com maybe inflating the stated savings for an item, or some companies getting their employees to write good reviews for them. That's life and that is business. The very nature of such is selling a product service presented or in many cases over presented to increase chances of a sale.
Nothing new there and we all know and accept it. But not is all lost. Just as companies have tricks of the trade to ensure maximum profits, so do consumers have the ability to look for savings and huge discounts. So the overall playing field is not as one sided as we would expect. Then along come the likes of Match.com and their ilk. Where does one start with total dissatisfaction with this company? Everything and I mean everything is a scam. The only saving grace for Match.com is the clever nature of how they have some nifty programmers and process architects at the company. I work in this field myself so am qualified to offer a validated comment or two in this regard. Though not working for a company like Match.com or any one like it. So, basically, for all those out there who wonder how does thing work or who comes up with the concepts etc., let me fill you in.
On the outside, from the customer-facing viewpoint, we see or believe. We see countless individuals similarly looking to meet others on this site. The plethora of pretty profile pics and bios would suggest this site really attracts the best out there. Look for yourself, there are for the most part some of the prettiest and best-presented people on Match.com. Now, as every new user imagines they are in with the best group around. Clever use of consumer psychology to let you think you as the new member are in with the in crowd. The use of dubious winks and interests etc. are merely a system automated process to take the place of actual and real users. Almost in the same fashion as an IV unit in a hospital will at intervals provide the correct dosage to the patient, so does the system of winks and interests work the same way.
Now for the profiles. Did anybody know that Match.com has devised templates to fill in many profile bios? It is all so simple in fact. Again I work in this area and know how it works. Many of the pics are harvested from all sorts of internet sources. Sure there maybe some honest profiles, like mine and yours, and pics to go along with them. But again, it is quite easy in this industry, from personal experience, with the clever use of data source management to make anything look real.
So, think of it like this. There is most probably an employee at Match.com sifting through expired or cancelled profiles and searching for good pictures to then send to another dept to come up with profile bios. Then the finished product in the form of the profile is set aside in a database of profiles. When a new user joins, the location, age group, likes, dislikes, etc. of the user are recorded. All this is done to tailor the response profiles to fit the member preferences. Pretty nifty eh!
Ever wonder why after receiving winks and favorites that the profile is then hidden or unavailable. This I must admit is really, really clever. I counted 47 winks and favorites received only to find that the profile is hidden. To think in any reasonable terms that many members on Match.com are prone to absurdly uncommon and unusual behaviour is a little hard to believe. Now comes the moment to pause and think for one second. If Match.com was a reputable company, then they would have investigated why virtually every profile becomes hidden within minutes of activity. Now that is and is most possibly the straw that will eventually break the camel's back. Pushing the ball back to Match.com in this regard is most certainly something they have not looked at for now, or come up with some angle to excuse themselves from any wrongdoing.
Recently, I contacted Match.com corporate office and insisted that I communicate with one of their senior mgmt. to outline my concerns. The very next day, there is not one wink, interest, email or favorite from "other" members. Zero. Nada. When for some weeks before I would routinely receive a regular stream of the new winks and favorites from individuals in my area. My account is still active and paid for. No changes there. I will let you make up your own mind on that one OK. Really, I am so interested to see what eventually happens to Match.com and their ilk. Much needed regulation and judicial oversight is needed to protect the interest of customers totally and utterly duped by such fraudulent business practices as those shown by Match.com.

I joined match.com around a year ago and they take automatic subscriptions six months in advance. I used the site for a while, have now met somebody which is fantastic. I went on the match website around September, time to cancel my subscription, so it didn't renew automatically anymore. I followed the process on the site to the best of my ability and had no reason to think this hadn't worked. However I noticed today that they have taken 78 from my bank account. When I called their customer service line and spoke to the subscriptions team they were really unhelpful. They just said because the cancellation was not successful (even if it was because their website hadn't worked properly) they had the right and were going to keep my money. Bearing in mind this money is payment in ADVANCE for a service I don't want, am not going to use and haven't used for several months. :-(
This came from a supervisor at a call center. She didn't offer to investigate what had happened. She didn't offer to speak with her manager (as presumably she would be too junior to authorize this) and basically said it was a no and that was it. I then said I wanted to take the matter further and was told all I can do is write to head office. I asked for a phone number and she told me head office do not have a phone number. Really - what head office does not have a phone number? She then said that when I tried to cancel it would have said somewhere on the web page that if I didn't receive an email in 20 minutes I had to phone them. I didn't see this message and I did everything in good faith. This feels to me like they are using automatic renewals and small print on their website to take money from me as a consumer that I wasn't expecting, and hadn't in the spirit of the law authorized.
Their lack of interest and refusal to investigate came across to me that they may be using this to make even more money from the consumer. It just feels wrong. That consumer being single people, often single parents who often struggle to make ends meet. I'm a single mother and that money was earmarked for my daughter's 3rd birthday present. With Christmas round the corner, nursery fees etc I don't know where I will find that from now. I have raised a dispute via my bank but given the attitude of customer service I am not confident Match will refund me my money. I really want to get my money back and am wondering if there is a strength in numbers?

My experience with this site was not the best anyways and after this I will not recommend Match.com to anyone.

I should have went to this site first. Not a mistake I will make in the future. Signed up in July with Match, cancelled in late August over the phone and you guessed it, charged for another three months in October. By far, Match.com has been the worst company I have ever dealt with. I do believe a class action lawsuit does need to occur against Match.com. Their NO REFUND policy is a joke. This is a scam and I will inform everyone I know that it is a huge RIP OFF!!!

Match.com is a fate worse than death. The only person having success on that site is the one who created it. What a joke. They will also auto-renew your subscription without warning.

I was on the website for approximately 1 1/2 mos. & would get notified that I either had an email from someone or a wink; when I would respond, it would say (every time) that their profile was not available. I wanted to check out their profile before I responded of course! So, when I went to cancel, it said nothing about giving me a refund, only that I wouldn't be charged after the time was up. This is wrong! If they are not living up to their agreement, then I should get my money back. There were too many guys just looking for a sexual partner, of course, they were reported. If I wanted anything extra, uh like being in the spotlight, they wanted to charge me for it. Isn't this supposed to be automatic? One time it asked for some money to "guarantee" that my email would be read! What? You mean I have to pay more for what I thought I was already paying for? Do not use this website, they are a ripoff!!!

My kids used my card to set me up with Match. Cute, I know. I called immediately and cancelled. Match says no refunds. Am I still in America? What just happened? Worst company I've ever dealt with.

I had only heard good things about Match from family and friends so I decided to give it a try. Overall, I am disappointed that there is no real screening process. My "daily matches" have included men with vulgar online names (ex. Lickherslow, lovesbig**, thickand**... You get the idea). I have had men proposition me for anonymous sex or just send rude emails with the clear purpose of offending. I am a "good girl" interested in meeting a special person. I actually dread opening my Match emails. My other complaint is the overall lack of quality people. This may just be a sign of the times, but is anyone literate anymore???

Match automatically continued. Called and emailed to cancel service. Was not able to get refund, because I used the email account to reach them. So unbelievable! So unprofessional! No wonder all the crooks and thieves use MATCH to try to steal money from you.

Match.com was a service I used for a period of 3 months. It sucked, of course. But as with all of these kinds of services, everyone knows to immediately check and cancel the auto-billing, which I did. Then this month (October) they auto-billed me. I am on the phone right now informing them that they have illegally billed me. The clerk, who is refusing to refund my money, claims that "since you used your account to send us 6 demands for a refund, you have to pay for the service for this period."
There is no way to contact Match.com, except through your members account. That means that if they auto-bill you, you HAVE TO use their service to reach them. You cannot reach them in any other way. I have told that to the clerk. She has put me on hold for the third time, claiming a supervisor is coming to the phone. I have now waiting for 6 minutes. Sites like these need to be avoided. They rarely work, and then only by luck, not anything the site does. I am contacting VISA and reporting this as an illegal billing to my account.

I was impressed by the number of members but only a few actually answered. I have cancelled the subscription online, I came through the whole process carefully and the request had been processed. After two months I found the two debits on my account. I have unsubscribed again, received no email confirmation again so I called customer service (was not easy to find) and I was informed politely that they found no requests of cancellation and are NOT able to REFUND any debits. Because of the unwanted debits I regret I have ever created the account.
