I wanted to share my experience with everyone here. I started buying cards several years ago from this company and I have never had problems with the cards. If you're getting a card by mail you will need to provide them with an SSN which is required by law. I never have to give any information to setup my cards because I buy the Vanilla Gift Master Cards or known has One Vanilla Gift Card which you don't need to activate. There's several types of cards you can get on the market. Vanilla Gift Cards or One Vanilla Gift Cards you will not need to setup with any information. Cards by mail, you will need to provide information such as ID, SSN and Address.

My experience from this company? I love it! I never had problems with the card company other than a 1 hour wait for the card to fully activate. You see other people here complaining about their cards. You should always treat your cards like cash and keep them inside your wallet. That's the problem that they're facing. Someone had spent the money on their cards or used an unsecured website to look at there balance. That's their fault. I have never had a problem and never had to call customer service for any problems. INCOMM just does not take your funds and they don't charge a monthly fee. Once your funds are loaded you keep your funds until you spend those funds.

I purchased a MyVanilla prepaid card on 9-22-2018 and was told at register after I loaded $230 onto it would be immediately available for use. I went outside tried to activate the card and it keeps declining due to identity verify. I tried to return it right away within 10 min of purchase without even leaving their parking lot on 9-22-2018 as I couldn’t use it and was denied due to it being a prepaid card. I called MyVanilla card the same day. Set up a pin and gave my information. They said they couldn’t verify all. I would need to email them color copies of my ID, front + back of the prepaid card and copy of the receipt before would be activated to InComms email they gave me. I sent in the documents as they requested on 9-22-2018.

When I call them today 9-23-2018 to see if it has been completed I’m told they want color copy of my social security card now emailed to them. I don’t feel comfortable emailing them all my personal information they are now requesting I shouldn’t have to provide. I’ve already provided my state issued identification and proof of address and purchase of the card. I simply asked to get a refund sent to my address shown on my Id with the receipts and proof of card purchase. They are denying me access to my funds which I have proved are mine and have receipts for everything. This is not fair for them to take my money and hold it hostage while failing to give me reasonable option to release. I want my money returned to me. Stay away from this place unless you want to get robbed!

I got a $500 debit card for Christmas, and have been using it a little here and there. Today at lunch time, I checked my balance on your Vanilla website, and when I hit the "sign in" button to check balance, it displayed what looked to be scribbled letters. I tried it again, and the same thing. I signed in to the website just below with the same process. It let me in, and said I had $112.80 left. Great... When I got to work, I went into my eBay account to make a purchase of $96.00 and would not accept it. Impossible!! I just checked it less than two hours ago. I checked my balance on the website I knew worked, and it said my balance was ZERO!!! Somebody had taken my $112.80, and there was no way to contact the company, phone number or email. What a rip off, and nobody gives a rip because they already have been paid at the purchase date. I would not recommend that anyone buys this rip off. Get cash next time,

Your site is a hazard to the security of any user who checks the balance of their card. Highly recommend some external pen testing to be contracted, too many cases of card details being stolen after checking the balance on your site. I hope someone starts legal action against you in the hopes you get your heads out of your behinds and look into these reports. Perhaps an internal audit is needed?! You obviously care more about the sale of the cards, versus the experience and security of the user. Plus your support is a joke, 90 days for a fraud review, goodness. Must happen so often you have a large backlog. Please for the well being of your customers and your business increase the security of your website and cards.

So I HAD Vanilla cards between my wife and I. We decided to go this route versus the traditional bank route, big ** mistake! These people are thieves and cannot and will not explain their actions! I enrolled in direct deposit for my work check and their big thing is “you’ll get paid up to two days faster.” NOT ONCE did I ever receive my pay before Friday, the regular scheduled day. And not only that one week it didn’t arrive until 9:00 A.M. on Friday so don’t believe that line of **! After three weeks of direct deposit I logged into my account and noticed that the status of my card said spend down instead of saying active!

After an hour and a half on the phone with nothing but complete idiots they go on to tell me that my card had been shut down because the user agreement had been violated, yet NOBODY has ever been able to tell me how it was broken!!! Pretty convenient that this particular card hadn’t been used any different than any of the others yet the only one with direct deposit is shut down!!! Coincidence, no I think not! It’s not a coincidence that they have a one star rating and this has happened to this many people! They need shut down, they’re thieves and messing with people's livelihood and money!!!

Do not purchase Vanilla Cards visa gift card are a scam and customer service is poor!!!! If I could give an evaluation with a black star I will give it but this option does not exist!!! I received a "Vanilla gift card" on September 6, 2018. On September 11 I went to Marshall (8661 Colesville Rd, City Place Mall, Silver Spring, MD 20910) to pay for a purchase. The cashier opened my "GIFT CARD VANILLA" but I could not pay with it because the transaction was declined. To check if I had done well, I returned home and checked the website of Vanilla Gift; Also call the consumer attention line to listen to the instructions. On September 15 I returned to the same Marshall store, to try to pay with that card and again the transaction was declined.

I call the number 1-800-571-1376 again and they tell me that the card has not been activated and that to investigate the reason why it has not been activated I must send a copy of my card on both sides, a copy of my ID and copy of the purchase receipt. I can understand that the company asks me for a proof of purchase but as a person who received as a gift the card VANILLA VISA GIFT CARD seems absurd to me!!!! There should be a way in the company so that representatives can give a satisfactory service to consumers that is not this!!!! My perception of what has happened is that it is the VANILLA VISA card GIFT CARD is a SCAM.

For me it does not make any sense to try to call back the person who gave the gift to know if he still keeps the receipt of purchase of the card, much less to ask him to go to the establishment where the purchase was made to obtain a copy of the receipt of said purchase. HAS NO SENSE. The representatives were professionals but what makes no sense is that the company puts them to provide such a poor service! DO NOT BUY CARDS "VANILLA VISA GIFT CARD".

SCAMMERS. I got a call yesterday from "Publishers Clearing House". He said, that I had won 5 Million dollars and a brand new Mercedes Benz. I asked him, "Was this a scam," and he said, "NO Mam...You are a Big Winner, and we will fly to your city and present you with a certified check for $5 Million and a new car tomorrow at 11.30, and the tv station will be there also unless you prefer it to be private." Then I asked him, "What's the catch?" He said, "No catch... but you have to go to Walmart or CVS and buy a "One Vanilla" card and put $150 on it, and call me back to confirm that you have it, and then we will make arrangements to fly to your city tomorrow to present you with your grand prize." Well, I googled "One Vanilla Card" and read the reviews, and all of them were bad. People said how it is a scam... and DO NOT Buy a One Vanilla gift card!

I called the Attorney General's Office and the lady called me back today and I gave her the phone numbers they had called from as well as the number I was supposed to have called, once I bought the gift card with $150 on it, and she checked and said it was a Jamaica Number, and a SCAM. I asked if I could prosecute them, and because they are out of the country she said No. But to warn my friends not to fall for these scams. One Vanilla Cards, also are scams, so please don't buy them, as you will lose your money. The things people do to steal... amazes me. But I am not gonna fall for something like this. Publishers Clearing House (The Real One) does not ask you to do anything if you are a chosen winner. So please be careful.

I got a $500 card as a birthday gift. I use it a couple time without a problem but the third time it kept getting declined. The balance on the card was just a few dollars less than the total of the purchase so I was thinking I would apply it towards my purchase and pay the rest with another card. Not possible. It just kept getting declined. I even called the merchant and they tried to run the card on their end but it was declined by the bank (Vanilla Visa). So, unless the card's balance is same or higher than the purchase total you can't use the card. Or you have to ask a merchant to split the amount and charge exact balance amount first and then pay the rest with cash or other card. No online retailer offers that option. Not very convenient. I wonder how many people just get frustrated and leave the few bucks on the card unspent. It's a great deal for the bank as it all adds up I'm sure.

One loaded with $200 and the other with $500. 00. I purchased them on 06/30/18 at a Dollar General. Literally the very next day before I was even able to use the larger of the two there was a $500.00 deduction from my account. I hadn't done any transactions with it. I called in shock and not knowing how it could have happened. I called and spoke with two reps and a supervisor. I explained how the only interaction I have had with this card was when I had to activate it.

I spoke with one of their reps over the phone and she informed me that the card was activated, registered, and could be used now but not in the UK. How it could be anyone else except for the rep I spoke with is beyond me. The supervisor explained I would have to file a dispute that could take up to 90 days! That is insane for a card I never even got to use! This is the worst experience of my life. They never even notified me of such large transaction before allowing it to proceed. I will never do business with this company ever again!

It was intended as a gift card but unless he registers it with very personal information i.e. DOB, SSN he cannot use it. I called and spoke to a customer service rep who said we needed to know the purchase balance. Since the card was a gift, we had to ask the person who gave my son the card. He said $20. I called again and was told that was the incorrect amount and there was nothing he could do for me. I asked to speak to a supervisor.

Again, that was a waste of time since she wouldn't do anything for me unless I knew the purchase balance. She suggested I contact the person who gave my son the card and ask them what the correct purchase amount was, again. REALLY! This has to be the absolute worse excuse for a gift card ever. They have a rule that if you use the card anywhere that there might be a tip or an additional charge like a hotel, they only let you use up to 80% of the value initially. There is a waiting period, not sure exactly how long I've been told so many stories, before they release the rest of the money. Absolutely stupid rules. If you have a $50 gift card you should be able to use $50, no matter where you use it. It should not give you any more than $50 credit, period. It took a total of 29 minutes to get a person who told me how to put the card on hold or 'deactivate' and then I gave her a password that would allow the person who was receiving the card the ability to reactivate it. This was a gift for a customer. The last thing I want is to put them out by wasting their time. The spent time trying to get it activated.

PLEASE SHARE THIS, everyone should know so they can protect themselves from the VISA prepaid card scam! We had bought two Visa prepaid cards to use online and BOTH turned out to be frauds. Somehow (don't ask me how) these scammers switch out the real card for one that looks real and when YOU buy it, bang they have a card worth money and you are left with headaches and frustration. They can go to the website and check if the card is active, they don't have to sign up or anything just put in the numbers and they will see its active and that's when they use it. Thankfully the amazing staff at Shoppers could help us and we did not lose money but what a week long runaround nightmare (not Shoppers’ fault, they were great). The prepaid visa people you call through the 1 800 number on the card were absolutely USELESS and I would have been out the money if not for the Shoppers Drug Mart staff.

The cards are not even owned by Visa, it's a third-party vendor. So don't think you are doing business with Visa, you're not. Here is my story: My wife bought a $150 dollar Visa prepaid card at the Blackburn location March 16th so we could shop online as I need a new video card for my TV. I work long hours and as a result the card sat on my desk until I could get to placing the order online. Saturday March 17th rolled around and when I tried to use the card it turned out not to be activated. The company asked me to send them a picture of the front, back and receipt for the card and they will activate it within 3 business days. I still had some other online shopping to do so I decided we would get a new card in the meantime valued at 200 so I could both register my son for Algonquin online and buy my TV video card. We were already at St-Laurent Shopping Center so we went to that Shoppers Drug Mart.

When I got home there seemed to be an issue with the card and after calling the toll free number I was told to return to the store. As I am sure you can well imagine I was very frustrated and slightly enraged at this point and went right back to the store. People buy these things for convenience and this was anything but convenient. When I arrived at the store I spoke with the manager. She looked at the card and said she thinks it’s a fraud card. She explained that they have had trouble in the past and will do her best to help me and my wife. After about 40 minutes of her being on the phone in a back room she returned to us with a new $200 card that was activated etc. I have not had any trouble with that card and have since used it to register my son at college. On Tuesday I had still not received a reply about the $150 dollar card we had bought in Blackburn so I called the 1 800 number again and big surprise, I had to go to the store.

Upon arriving at the store on Wed. March 21, I was taken care of by that manager. After we both received the “runaround, please hold” game for over an hour, he was kind enough to give me my $150 back in cash and said that he will be taking this matter to the fraud dept as there is discrepancies in the numbers and that this may be a fraud issue (just my luck at this point). I would like to say a HUGE thank you to the Shoppers Drug Mart staff because they truly showed me that the customer matters at Shoppers Drug Mart and customer care is #1.

Bravo to these two individuals that took horrible situations and through their considerable efforts resolved the issues to my satisfaction. They have assured my families continued patronage. I would like to take a moment and say that I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy one of those cards again as long as I live and they WILL be receiving scathing reviews everywhere I can post them and across social media with my story. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Now hit share and save someone else a HUGE headache.

I got a Reloadable Vanilla debit MasterCard card at my dollar store. I looked at it and it says nowhere that I had to be to buy it or anything. So I put the $120 without anything wrong. The cashier did not say anything about it either. She did not say anything about being 18 to buy it or use it. So I go online to register it and it says my birthday and I place it in. Then under it it said that I needed my Social Security. Now I’m thinking something off. And then it says you got to be 18. Now they locked my card with my 120$. Not theirs. Mine.

And now I got to go through a whole lot of garbage because my brother trying to help me also made it more harder. Now I have to get my brother who works mornings to get here and help figure it out. (DO NOT BUY THIS CARD.) It’s a scam for them to take underage people's money. Never buying from MyVanilla again. Get a card from your bank if you want a card. Because these people are (SCAMMERS)! I’m very disappointed and displeased because these people gave me and will give you lots of trouble with one card.

I read the fees not listed on the package before I purchased the card. Who knew there would be a fee of 50 cents each time you use it, and a dormancy fee if you don't use it for 90 days! It also stated it was free to do a balance inquiry online to keep the dormancy fee from applying to your account. Well I can't log in to my online account because it says my password is incorrect! Hmmm... seems shady to me. I will not be using this card and will try to cancel it... I think I will have a hard time about it however. Green Dot Money Card is awesome! DONT BUY THIS CARD!!!

Now, there is an upfront fee of £2.95, which we thought was OK for the service and as I now had two of these cards, I thought I would spend them. I had two purchases in excess of £18, so I put them on the two separate cards. Last year’s card was refused. I checked their website and found that they take your money, £2 a month, if you have not spent it after the first seven months. Apparently I had £15 left on this card. I therefore ask, how can it possibly have an expiry date of 2021, this is an absolute lie, as it would notionally expire this year!

I received a Vanilla Visa Gift Card for my birthday, 11/2017. I did not open the card until 2/2018. I attempted to use the card for a store purchase. The purchase was denied. I then attempted to use the card for an online purchase. The card was denied. Then I started my research. Why so many Vanilla Sky websites? Used a different website which gave directions on how to access Vanilla Sky and set up an account and pin number. Finally got an account set up and immediately checked "balance." This indicated that I had "0" funds left on a $50.00 gift card and even gave the stores, dates, purchases and purchase amounts. How is it possible to have a Vanilla Visa Gift Card which is tightly sealed in its packaging, brand new, and yet all the funds on the card were already used??

When I telephoned the phone number printed on the back of the card and explained the situation to the customer service representative, she said she was sorry and did not know how that could happen. I could file a dispute. In anger I hung up. Further research let me to the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. BBB had something like 586 negative reviews - most with the same story as mine. Yet BBB gave Vanilla Sky an A+ rating. Then I investigated InComm which is how I ended up on Consumer Affairs. After a few days I called again customer service for Vanilla Sky, deciding to start a dispute about the card. I am still waiting, after a week, for the paperwork. Some research into InComm showed that there was an issue with Vanilla Sky visa cards - cards currency had already been used when the gifted card holder had never used the card. I would like to find a solution to this issue.

I made a purchase on a disposable Visa gift card. When I went to use the card, the first purchase went through. The second purchase I made went through, but then overdrafted my account 32.65... which locked me out of my Apple account. I went ahead and made the purchase to reactivate my Apple account. I have been closely working with an Apple representative to get my refund back. I called in a month ago... and the supervisor I spoke to told me that there was nothing on their end. Let alone the customer service is atrocious... half the time they don’t know what they are doing or try and control the situation saying they could do what supervisors do.

So I made a ticket number 2 days ago... so that’s the only one that they were able to reference. I find it hard to believe that once their information is updated with prospective clients, that they would remove such information. As well as not having phone records or notes... to indicate that you have called in. (If there was a legal problem, they would have that information). I did everything I could to get my refund back... they instructed me to go back to CVS to track down a cash purchase. Where the place I go, nobody wants to do their job and are too busy to care about your concerns. As well as Visa Vanilla gift cards.

I just got done telling them, I went through the vendor, through the App Store now them... then they tell me to contact the vendor again... thus creating another string of hoops to go through to get my 32.65 back. But they’d love to give me a purchase, but don’t have records of me calling in. When I called a month ago, I left my name, address and phone number, zip code... and the purchase must be made through Apple. I was overdrafted by Visa. They are the financial institute that handles the money in the card for purchasing. So they are the one that overdrafted me, told me to pay the required amount to access my Apple account and finally I was credit for the mishap. Now they have no records of me calling... time frame of this happening in a month span time. So that is 32.65 I will never see again. Visa won and now has my money. Bunch of thieves.

Visa gift cards are great because you can use them just about anywhere (except online... Amazon for etc). They won't accept it. However; the biggest issue is the service fees they charge. I was aware of them. No service fees for the 1st year once the card is activated. What they don't tell you is the card is activated once it is purchase, not the first time you use it. So after one year of activation, they will charge you $3.00/mo for service fees whether you use the card or not. They also charge a fee for when you buy the card. The fee depends on how much the card is worth. Like a normal Visa, there is also an expiry date. I would steer anyone from buying the Visa or MasterCard as gift cards. I'm sure they have similar policies. Instead buy gift cards for the retail stores you plan to spend it. I would suspect most of those don't have the same conditions where they penalize you for not spending the card quickly or right away. Good luck.

I went to their website to see if I can do it online but there was no button to edit his zip code. I then called the number on the back of the card to do it over the phone. The representative then told me they don't accept my card. Which I responded, "That is weird because it is your card, I just need to add the zip code." She then told me she'll transfer me to another person who can help with the zip code only for her to hang up on me.

After doing this 2 times with them hanging up on me I decided to call again but ask for the supervisor. The third time I called however only had an option to accept $100 or hang up. The whole thing was really bizarre as it was the same number I was calling. I redialed the number several times with the same thing "accept $100 by pressing 1 or hang up". After not being able to talk to someone I ended up pressing 1. I was transferred to another representative which I quickly asked for the supervisor. I got a supervisor named Monica but when I explained the situation guess what? SHE HUNG UP ON ME. Now every time I call back I get a busy signal. So I bought this card from my local Wal-Mart after reading the back of the card. Seeing as there is no monthly fees, I purchased it and put my entire paycheck on it except $20. I only bought a prepaid card to use till I'm able to have direct deposits. Considering I work night shift, I'm not up at 9 am-4 pm to deposit it into my bank account. I go online to register, the system says the pin I entered was wrong when they didn't even ask for a PIN. So I called them to set it up. The woman on the phone couldn't hear a thing I was saying. She blamed my accent for this which I found slightly rude of her to make it seem as though it was my fault that she couldn't hear. I get off of work and go to put gas in my truck, the cashier (whom I knew) said that the card had been reported stolen. Strike 1.

Next night I call back & I get a hold of a man whom mixed his English with another language so I just apologized to him for not understanding and asked if I could speak to somebody else. He said yes and put me on hold for about 10 minutes, no waiting music or ringing or anything. Just silence, then hung up on me. I tried to call back and which this time it asked me to enter a PIN. Obviously I typed the last 4 digits on the card and it rejected it multiple times. Their website doesn't provide an email so other than writing a letter, there was no way for me to get in contact with them about the card. So about a week later I had my friend go buy the exact same card and I had to use her card number to bypass the PIN option to talk to another person. Turns out the first woman never even registered my card so when I swiped it, it was reported stolen.

The woman that helped activate my card suggested that I listen to the rules of the card, there is no monthly fee correct but only while you're using the card that came from the package not once you get the personalized one & there is a fee every 90 days, plus $4.50 to pull the money off the card, & 3.50 for every purchase. Then if you use the cash back option at a cash register it will charge you a whopping $8.00. You can't get the money off until you receive a personalized card in the mail as well. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CARD.

Called back to find out there was no higher supervisors. Lied too more. After telling another supervisor the discontent we were feeling, he told us we couldnt even ask about the reason the cards could not be used because they were gifted to us by our parents as Christmas presents. One problem was the fact that the cards had an exp date of 6/26. The system showed my exact same card having a 2027 exp date on file with the company. Csr said that the ccv numbers were not the same in the systems as what's on the card. No one could help us make our purchase.

Told us that they were not liable for any problems with the card, customer service reps or the humiliation we went through at the store trying to use 3 different Vanilla cards. Each having a value of 100$ each. Csr's and supervisors took no responsibility for any issues we were having. Not the card, not the humiliation at the store, not the lies or poor rapport of the customer service representatives. We were told new lies every time we called customer service, forcing my husband and I to keep calling back to figure out what was wrong with our cards. We were even told that the cards didnt work because they were purchased with a check!!! Everyone knows that you can't buy gift cards with a check. It's cash or debit only. My parents only have debit cards and cash. They dont use checks. No csr/supervisor ever figured out what happened. No refund or compensation given. We now have 3 - 100$ Vanilla cards that we cannot use.

They will not issue us new cards or a refund check. We were told that my parents had to call them about the cards. However, since I purchased too many cards, I decided to used the remainder for myself. I attempted to used one of the gift cards valued at $100 to which it was denied twice in the same transaction. This is when I learned that you must activate the card before use. Why buy a sealed gift card to which supposedly no one else can access just to activate it? If it's sealed it should be ready for use upon breaking the packaging. I tried to call and activate the card with the number on the card would not go through their automated system. I had to speak with customer service.

The phone call went like this. I called, told them I could not activate the card, they told me they did not have record of that card number and to send (e-mail) them all documentation related to that purchase (copy of receipt, ID and the gift card front and back). After doing all that, I received an e-mail telling me that I also needed to get a copy of ALL the gift cards I brought within that transaction and an electronic journal from the store location.

The store will not give me an electronic journal because I have a receipt. They are gift cards to which I have distributed as gifts!! I no longer have access to these items. So now I await for hopefully a refund of my money spent on this gift card. My advice to anyone purchasing or wanting to purchase a Vanilla Visa/MasterCard Gift Card - Don't do it!! Just don't do it!! You are better off purchasing a store gift card or some other gift card like America Express where it's guaranteed. I WILL NEVER EVER SPEND MY MONEY ON VANILLA ANYTHING!!!

With children scattered around the country, we’ve typically used Vanilla Visa cards for Christmas gifts. Thinking, apparently wrongly, that if anything happened and the card was lost or stolen, that it could be canceled, a stop spending issued or at least tracked to see if it had been used by someone else. In Key West, we are still recovering from Hurricane Irma. This year, funds are tight with all of our money going toward rebuilding our home and replacing lost vehicles etc. Even so, we managed to purchase our three sons and their families gift cards for Christmas in the amount of $500.00 each.

One of our son’s cards was stolen. We went to the Vanilla Visa website to find out what to do. The instructions were to call customer service “IMMEDIATELY”. So we did. We were told that the receipt that we had with the last four numbers on there was not enough for her to track the card number to see if it had been used or to stop or cancel it. That it was like “anonymously purchasing cash” and that there is nothing that they could do. Nothing! Now we’ve had to send the other son and his family another $500.00, that we really don’t have and I guess someone else is having a great Christmas on us.

After thinking that this is such B.S. and that if it happened to us, it had to have happened to others, so I proceeded to do some research that led me here, where I should have started, before flushing $500.00 down the toilet. A very expensive lesson learned but we will NEVER purchase these cards again and will make sure that our friends and family do not either.

My account was completely drained, I had no knowledge that there were fees. I put $100.00 on the card and put it aside for when it would be needed, now I need it and it was gone. Customer service did nothing to help and said I should have known about the fees. There should be a class-action lawsuit brought to this company to give back some or all the money that they stole from everyone. We pay a fee when we put money on the card, there should be no other fees.

My boyfriend and his electrical union Local 617 raised $3,000 in donations. Through a non-profit, they adopted 5 very unfortunate families for Christmas. We bought FIVE $500 Vanilla VISA gift cards, and five smaller gift cards to buy presents for the families. ALL OF THEM WERE STOLEN. They were purchased on 12/14 and by 12/18 someone used all of the money on the cards. Even though these cards were in a sealed package, so nobody could see the numbers. This company is not going to do anything for us, even though we have proof of purchase. They said they cannot do anything for at least 90 days, which I assume means nothing. This breaks my heart... All these families wanted for Christmas was food to feed their families. I really hope whoever stole this money needed it more than them.

They told me I had to have the receipt for the card to prove it is legitimate, which of course I don't have. Someone is $200 richer from this, and I am disgusted. I bought 3 MyVanilla cards so that my two nephews could go on a school trip to California and I could transfer money from the card I bought for myself to their cards while they are away. What I didn't know (but according to the customer service person is in the EULA) is that you can't transfer money from one "starter" card to the other. She said it was my fault for not reading the EULA. Oh wait, it is located INSIDE the package so no way of knowing that until after I had purchased the three cards and put $200 on their cards and $400 on mine. So, since I couldn't use my card to transfer money to theirs, I requested a refund. I was told that I would have to supply them with a copy of the receipt, my driver's license, social security card and proof of address AND pay a $10 fee. All to get MY money sent to me. I told them thanks but no thanks. I decided to go to an ATM and withdraw my money.

Guess what when I tried to use it the card was declined. I called MyVanilla cards' not so helpful customer service who told me that my card had been restricted and would remain so until I sent in the required documentation. They couldn't tell me what it was restricted for, just that it was "suspicious activity." What is "suspicious" about wanting to get my money back. I am currently waiting for a supervisor to get in touch with InCOMM, the company behind the card, to see why the account is restricted and what they can do to get my money to me, since I have no intention of sending them my SS card. My advice is "Don't touch MyVanilla" with a 10-foot pole.

I bought this card years before and never had a problem up until now. I was recently in Job Corps taking up a trade when I came back across this card. My mom had sent me $200 because I left the majority of my stuff at home and she was too lazy to send it back. I Spent half of it and decided to put that other $100 on the card I got at Walmart. Now I bought this card and the next time I went back to Walmart, I noticed they'd removed the whole batch of cards themselves. I thought something was fishy about that.

So I went ahead and tried to activate it. Here's where it gets ridiculous! When I tried to activate I accidentally activated it twice using my first name and then when that didn't go through I tried my middle thinking I might have used that. Instantly they lock my card, so I call them. They tell me even though it's my middle name they still need proof it's me! They make me send proof of my name to try and unlock it, then turned into proof of address. I'm thinking like okay that's fine. They ask me to send my S.S. Card, my ID, and proof of residence. This sounds sketchy as hell firstly, you want my personal identity? I sent it through email anyway though because I was anxious and determined sense job corps likes to Feed you **.

I email the first 2 and send something that has the address on it. They said it had to be something important. I told them I don't have bills I'm in trade school. They didn't give 2 ** and for months I had to hold onto that card until my stub came for completing. I finally got the stub after 5 months and tried to re-register it again. Sent it in email. Argued them down for days about it, because they kept saying it wasn't acceptable, because it was printed in the company's name and that it had to be in my name. This was stupid, because the address for the company was literally where I was laying my head every night and it was a bank stub! I'm upset I even wasted my time! I hope for my sake someone sues the ** out of them.

I registered a Vanilla Gift Card, and an unauthorized user charged a dating site membership to the card. I disputed the charge, and got just the standard email back that read the dispute form was sent to the investigation unit. There was NOTHING in the email, NOTHING on the website that stated if a charge is disputed, your card becomes inactive, and the card number gets changed.

So, because it said on the page right after you log in that the card is inactive, you think that calling when the customer service number to get the card activated, they will then give you the card number and CCV number, right? WRONG!!! The customer service rep told me he wasn't allowed to divulge the new card number, but if I log in to the site, the number will appear on the site. Again, WRONG!!! So, I sent an email to the dispute email address, and I received a reply email that read they can NEVER reveal all sixteen new numbers, and the new CCV.

So, why does the card need to be deactivated then when you dispute a charge? Why, then, when the card is given new numbers, do we need to call to activate the card, when there is no way of getting the new numbers? They sent me an email and wrote that I need to send in a copy of a government issued ID, like a driver's license, and a utility bill, or some other bill with my name and address on the bill. Then they will refund the balance that's on the card.

When they deactivate the card, they don't tell you it can be reactivated. AND, when they deactivate the card, they don't tell you when the dispute is resolved, they change the card numbers. Then, they especially don't tell you that they aren't allowed to give you the new numbers. I guess they figure if someone had maybe $50 on the card, that person will feel that making a copy of a government issued ID, and a utility bill will be too much bother for just $50. But, now that I know the incompetence of this company, I will NEVER buy another My Vanilla card. BUT, if I did ever buy another My Vanilla card, I would bother with the ID, and the utility bill even if I had just 50 cents on the card.

The rep I talked to wasn't very bright. I had to repeat numerous times that my card was deactivated, given a new number, and I not only needed to activate the card, I also needed the new numbers. When he wasn't understanding that, and I kept having to repeat it, I got frustrated. I'm not patient when it comes to incompetence, so as I got frustrated, so did he, which is totally unprofessional, because I know people in jobs like customer service are told not to argue with the customer.

These people are VERY rude, both in their email responses, and in their phone calls. They are also VERY unprofessional. This company needs to be put out of business. They are a ripoff. The people are VERY curt. When they resolve your dispute, they don't contact you to let you know what the resolution was they came up with. You don't know they changed the card number until you go to the site, and see the number was changed.

When there is a disputed charge, I can understand deactivating the card until the dispute is resolved. I don't understand changing the card numbers, and I especially don't understand not being allowed to give out the new numbers to the cardholder. When you call to get the card activated, you have to give them personal information. So they know you're the cardholder. Why not give out the new card number to you, or to the people you authorized to use the card? They need to put on their site a place where we cardholders can put the names in of the people we authorize to use the card, or they need to change their policy, or they need to be put out of business. The company is a BIG TIME rip off company!!!

Updated on 09/23/2017: I wrote a scathing review of the card, and of the whole process involved in a situation where an unauthorized person makes a charge against the Vanilla card. I disputed the charge, and for whatever reason, it takes the dispute and investigation team weeks to make a decision on whether or not the charges are legitimate.

I specifically told the people at this company that there were just two people authorized to make charges on this card. I gave them the name of the second authorized person, and I told them if they could trace back who made the charge, and it wasn't the person whose name I gave them, then the charge wasn't legitimate. The other person swears it wasn't them who made the charge, company says the charge is legitimate, and will stay on my card.

My card is a Master Charge card. Does anyone know how we can locate a high management person at Master Card? If so, everyone who has written a bad review ought to write to this person, and tell him/her about the problems we have with the card, with the process and with the incompetent reps we have to deal with. While the unauthorized charge to my card was "just" $80, that was MY MONEY, and the person who made the charge had no business making the charge. How isn't what this person did considered theft and fraud?

We figured this would let him have a little bit of his own money at a time. When trying to activate his card they said his identity was wrong and would not let him activate it. Upon discussing this with customer care they said if he has trouble and has impairments he should not have this card and that this is NOT the service for him. With only $20 on the card we just ask for a refund and they said that to cancel the card it would cost us $9.95. They would not even let the card be switched into his poa's name saying that would be fraud. They treated us like complete criminals and acted like there was nothing they could do about it. I know $20 isn't a lot of money but when you are on a fixed income and trying to help family something like this can really make you upset.

My biggest problem with this was them saying that since he has impairments he should not have this kind of a service. It looks like a lot of people have similar issues with them saying the identity is wrong when it is actually right. If the card won't activate they should have to refund the entire amount. Now the person that gifted me the card is out her money, I am out my gift and someone with a bogus company has my $100.00, Not happy and will never use this company again. It didn't believe I was me. So I had to call. I called several times and waited on hold. The lady asked stupid questions. Then after a while she said it was ready. I think by ready she meant I should go ** myself. Didn't work. Tried ATM nope. I deemed the Card a colossal waste and will wait for the balance to escheat. Everyone is good at something and Vanilla does have a particular use so it's not a total waste. Which it is.

I purchased 2 Vanilla Visa gift cards as a gift on May 3, 2017; one for $500, one for $100. They were mailed to Ohio (from Las Vegas) in one envelope but stolen before being delivered to addressee. $100 gift card was never used and that amount was refunded. However, the $500 gift card was activated by Vanilla Visa when 'the thief' called in. Despite having a phone number associated with the call to activate the $500.00 gift card and despite having information on all vendors where the $500.00 card was used (5/6-5/14), Vanilla Visa refused to investigate the matter or help me track 'the thief' down.

Most importantly, I had been told ON A RECORDED LINE by Vanilla Visa that if I did not use the cards the money would be REFUNDED to me. I still have not received the $500.00 refund that Vanilla Visa promised my on their recorded line, approximately May 15th. Several phone calls later, agent Carey **, said he'd TRY to find the taped conversation but didn't think he could do anything about my loss. Vanilla Visa should be held accountable for their customers' investments if they activate cards that have been stolen. This business should be shut down immediately for theft.

I looked up my account online and it did state I had indeed made a purchase of $27.27 but then there was a charge for the full $100 from LX processing who works with the Vanilla One Card company. I have read many reviews from people who have not been refunded their money at all or people who were not refunded all of their money. Since they took the whole $100 from me I am now a negative $27.27 on a prepaid card which is ludicrous!!

I have contacted the Consumers Affairs and BBB, I want a check for the full $100 refunded to me via a check ASAP. If it's a fight they want, it's one they will get. When I am done with them they will be everything BUT a good idea. Beware and tell all of your friends and family NOT to purchase this card! Prepaid is Prepaid. First of all I am so infuriated with what happened to me today that it motivated me to jump on this website and sign up just to leave a review and hope that NOBODY ever makes this mistake. Let me first also say that part of this is my fault by not reading all the details in this scam to begin with but who would of think this would be such a pain. Here is my situation, father of 4 living in a home in southern California with my wife. Sole income of this home is me, I make about 26,000 a year. Not a lot and since my wife stopped working last year because of our recent baby I have been picking up the slack. Needless to say we have been behind on our bills. About 2 thousand dollars worth. Banks already wanting to repossess our vehicles. A God sent miracle comes from heaven and we come across some cash just enough to pay off our debts and keep our home.

Because of unforeseen circumstances my bank accounts are -$600 but I need to pay off these car loans before we have 0 transportation with 4 kids. That's a nightmare just thinking about it. I have the nifty Idea of putting the cash in to 5 different One Vanilla cards and using the cards to pay off my debt, well here is where I made the huge mistake. One Vanilla cards can't be used to make payments through money order or directly to the bank, not only that I cannot take the money out through an ATM. This is what I call a scam because the card CLEARLY says it's a DEBIT card and has the MASTERCARD logo on it! Everyone assumes that if the card says VISA or MASTERCARD on it and it's a DEBIT it's accepted everywhere!

Man what a HASSLE! Now I'm STUCK and I can't pay any of my bills with 2 thousand dollars on my cards that just turned into basically store credit. And seriously what is the deal with not being able to get a refund on these?? What kind of crap is that? Calling One Vanilla they say there nothing they can do and they could send me a check with the full amount in 2-4 weeks. What good does that do me if I have the banks hounding me and my family for me to pay them. I have a separate complaint on the banks not taking my prepaid cards, what the point of this whole prepaid card system if you cant use it!? That's a bunch of trash. Don't buy these cards. Don't fall into the trap of these card issuers and their fees to make a quick buck out of people who don't know all the details. SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE HEADACHE AND ASK YOUR LENDERS HOW THEY WOULD LIKE TO GET PAID AND AVOID THIS CARD AT ALL COST!

I have received few of these cards for a gift and have also purchased 4 of them (each one worth 200$, therefore 800$ wasted!!) When people I gave these cards as gifts tried to use them, they were all declined. When they went through the activation process, it seemed as everything went well but unfortunately they were unable to use them. The cards I received were also not used for the same reasons mentioned above. When I called the company and provided them with all the information they requested in order to "resolve" the issue: receipts, place where the cards were purchased, activation codes as well card numbers and expiration dates, they said it would take up to ten business days to fix the "errors that occurred during activation".

Anyhow, it has been over four months now and numerous phone calls and wasted time with the company's reps, and they have not done anything about it. The one thing they have done is kept all the money, which totals over 1200$. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE USE OF VANILLA PREPAID CREDIT CARDS AS THEY ARE AN OFFICIAL FRAUD COMPANY!!! As for those who already went through bad experience and wasted their money, I would suggest they take action and start a lawsuit against them. I am sure we can gather the info from many that were scammed and proceed with the lawsuit. I Would also recommend to all merchandisers to refuse the use of these cards as well as not to accept the sale of these cards so that way they can prevent these issues from happening in the future.

Found out after many tries that you cannot use a Vanilla Prepaid MasterCard toward a purchase. Have to pay the difference first and then have merchant enter the exact amount remaining on your card. I'm sure other gift cards are the same, but this is the first I've had one in many years. Did not think I should need an owner's manual to use it. :)

But getting this out of the phone support person was extremely difficult. Especially as she would not let me talk. She appeared to like hearing her own voice. She said a transaction last month actually went thru at Burger King and I knew for sure it did not. She said I actually had no balance left and that the balance of $8.10 was actually the purchase amount at Burger King. After talking to a supervisor she said the $8.10 would be available after the weekend. Not sure what changed. Still being confused I asked her if the card being a card from Canada and used in the US (I'm in the US) could be part of the problem. She said, "oh yeah, I did not think of that". So, now we started to get to the root of the problem, with no help from phone support.

But then I got to thinking, the next time I try to use the card I will have to convert the amount of $8.10 to US$, and the conversion rate changes often. Next subtract that resulting converted amount from my purchase. Then pay the merchant the difference. Lastly have the merchant charge the remaining amount to the gift card. When I explained this to phone support she said it was not true. Then later she said I did not tell her I was trying to use in the US. Which doesn't make sense because this was part of the discussion two paragraphs back. Needless to say I tossed the card as the frustration was getting to be too much. Don't like the fact that Vanilla has $8.10 that they so don't deserve, but oh well. I need to move on before I have a heart attack over $8.10, or $5.93 US dollars as of 4/30/2017. :)

A Clear Warning should be presented when using a gift card if you do plan to pay the online bill for the turbo tax. Avoid using the OneVanilla Prepaid MasterCard and the OneVanilla Prepaid Visa Card When making a purchase because neither of them allow you to register your name and address directly on to the prepaid card so you can't use it to purchase turbo tax online directly. You need to purchase instead a MyVanilla prepaid card in order to be able to register an address to that card and in order to be able to pay the bill for your taxes online. You also can't load your previous prepaid cards into another brand new card to empty the card that way. I tried that it and it didn't work. It looked like was going to but didn't. The cashier wanted me to prepay directly with cash for that exact same amount instead.

One of the biggest problems is getting your money back successfully. The solution to that problem is to open up a donation site (for example: gofundme) or create a fake online shop with amazon or ebay that you can "purchase" an item for that exact same price and recycle the money back into you or your friends bank account. That's the fastest way possible.

I purchased two Vanilla Visa cards during the 2016 holidays. One card was lost so I contacted Vanilla Visa to get a replacement card. Needless to say I have submitted documentation of proof of purchase and address along with the assigned "ticket" number. Each time I call there is a different customer service person saying they didn't receive the email or fax. This company should have a class action lawsuit against them for fraud. Don't use this company. They are thieves.

Activated my gift card only to find out very limited merchants accept the card. Basically, the card is now worthless. I have $150 on it and nowhere to spend the money. The stores that do take it are an hour bus ride from me. Seems like the only places that take the card for transactions are the ones that sell them too.

One of the worse companies ever. Reported a gift card stolen months ago to be told the card is like cash. They don't refund you a stolen or lost card but they won't deny you to open a claim but they don't tell you ahead of time you're screwed. They lead you on to send in supporting documents and calling speaking to representatives or doing follow-ups and still nothing will be done. It's just to make it seem like they care. I will never again purchase a Visa Vanilla gift card and I will tell all my family and friends not to do so either.

I purchased two Visa Vanilla gift cards for Christmas. One was for $100 and the other for $25. When the recipients of the cards tried to use them, they were declined and were expired. The expiration date on each card was 06/25. I do not understand how they could be expired. I contacted the number on the card and began an endless process of being transferred from one person who spoke bad English to another, and round and round I went. No one could help me. I finally spoke with a lady who was a "rep" of the bank and she wanted a duplicate receipt. It is now March, everyone has their gift cards and I do not have the receipts.

The people apologized so many times while they did nothing to assist me that I finally told all of them to drop the worthless apologies. I was at the end of my rope and I was not nice to them. I guess not I am out $125. I am retired and on social security, but it's the principle of this. How about helping a customer? I will never buy another Visa Vanilla gift card. I will get all of my gift cards at the bank. I think this company is just a scam and pocketing the monies from these "expired" cards. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and also with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau? Thank you for letting me vent!

Vanilla froze the card saying it was more than $25 and after calling 10 or more times for 2 weeks they never unlocked the card and just outright stole our money!!! The worst company I have ever dealt with.

I called the number of the back of the card and they told me that I need the original receipt in order to activate it. I couldn't believe it!!! Who receipts with gift cards?? Purchased Gift Cards should have access to the money without asking for a receipt. I insisted that I can't go back to the people gave me the card and asked for the receipt. I think the Vanilla Gift are making very difficult for the activation so they can pocket the money. JUST SAD!!! Poor customer service. She hanged the phone to me. I told her I was going online and make a comment about the scam!!! Visa shouldn't let this company use their logo!!! Bad reputation.

I called and was told even though I had the serial number and they confirmed that I had purchased it at Walmart and that it had not been used, they were unable to issue me a new card without the receipt and a photocopy of the front of the card as well as the back. Who does that? By the way, they also confirmed with me that the second card I had purchased for my other Grandson was used, one serial number apart. The card has been stolen twice, once by whomever has it and once by Vanilla.

Went online to check card balance and the website couldn't find the card, didn't exist. I called their customer service and they told me the same thing. It wasn't activated. In order to resolve this they asked for copy of card, receipt and photo ID (why would they need this since it's a cash card and they told me they have no way of tracking who bought it and where/when without receipt). Don't ever give personal information to this company, they don't need it.

I had to ask my boss's boss for receipt. The card # on the receipt didn't match the card I was given. I sent the info to Vanilla Visa and told them his company (well known big company) wanted to know where the $500 went. They responded with "your card has been activated". It was and I now have the funds. What a pain in the butt to work with this company. I would never in the future buy a card from them again.

I am very disappointed with this card. I received the rewards card from Time Warner. I was never told that fees would be taken out of the balance. When I looked up the balance and found the fees, I called. I spoke to nice lady who said that the back of my card says that a fee of $2.50 would be charged as of the 7th month of receipt. This is written so small on the back of the card that no one notices it. I couldn't even read the telephone number to call them to find the balance. Luckily, I could read vanillavisa.com. I then asked to speak to a supervisor when I noticed that I was charged in the 6th month or so I thought.

The supervisor, Devin, who tried to be courteous, told me that there was nothing he could do about reversing the fee, but agreed that it looked like a mistake. "Oh well", is basically what he said. I then asked for his supervisor and was told that a manager could call me. After we went around the issue for a few minutes, he suggested that he could get a supervisor to speak to me. I spoke to James, who is also a supervisor, but was extremely helpful and explained that reason I was charged $2.50 in month 6. The reason being that 2 days into month 7 is when I was charged. He also helped the situation and found a reasonable solution that I found satisfactory. However, I would not recommend buying and/or accepting these reward cards unless you spend the money on them asap. Otherwise, they charge you monthly.

Was told I'm good to go. I went through line at Wal-Mart and was denied again. Called customer service again and was told that the rep who helped me register card initially had deactivated my temporary card and activated the permanent card that will be mailed to me in 2 weeks. So, instead of activating my card in the spot while I'm in the store, I have to wait 24 hrs for them to activate the card. DO NOT GET VANILLA CARD!!!

I logged into Paypal account, added it to my payment cards and bingo, was able to use them to send money to my son. Paypal has accepted the payment from card so let's hope there will not be a message later of failed payment. Anyway for those out there who cannot get the cash go to your Paypal account and add the card. Good luck.

Vanilla Gift Card offers no consumer protection regardless of the trusted VISA logo. Purchased a Vanilla gift card so I could order an item on-line without using my credit card. I did not want to provide my personal account information with all the scammers out there getting a hold of information too easily. I thought the Vanilla gift card would be a safer option. The merchant happily took my money from the gift card and never sent the merchandise I ordered. No reply to the several attempts I made to inquire about the item not received that I paid for so I disputed the transaction through InComm or Vanilla gift cards for Non-Receipt of merchandise.

InComm couldn't care less - they offer no consumer protection and use the VISA Logo as a way to gain your trust and purchase their card. Deceitful business practices! They simply said "go to your local police - we can't help you". Obviously, the merchant who stole my money is aware that Vanilla gift cards do not stand behind their customers and ask for them as a preferred payment method. Two con-artists working together.

My brother purchased a $100 Vanilla prepaid MasterCard for me for Xmas. I went to use it. Naturally it did not work. Called Customer Service. They said it had not been activated. Need the receipt. The receipt had a different card number on it than the card in the package had on it. So there's pretty much no way to recover the lost monies. MasterCard just gets to default and keep the $.

I recommend you gift cash over credit cards as they're unreliable and nearly impossible to reconcile. It's a giant waste of time and money. I mean an activation fee is added on when it never was activated so after $110 you get nothing in return except a headache and empty wallet plus the embarrassment of going to purchase something and being declined and then having to spend my own money on the supposed to be gift.

Absolutely unacceptable business practice. It is crooked and basically thievery and fraud on their part and they're allowed to continue, it's disgusting truly. I hope one day they are held accountable for the money they have received with no product given in return, or at least not a working product, just a useless piece of plastic. Please do not ever buy one. Gift money instead as it cannot be frauded away from you and is accepted everywhere. Good luck. Hopefully this does not happen to you!!

I opened the packing on the gift card and called the number to check how much I had on the card. To my dismay, I was told that the card had been purchased for $200 but, the whole amount had already been used by a Sam's Club member in Riverside, CA at around 12:00 midnight. I assume this would have been an online purchase.

The representative whom I spoke to even said that it looks like an inside job since, I had not even received the card but it had already been used!! I filled out all the paperwork they needed to start investigating and e-mailed it to them on Jan. 4th. I called them on Jan. 17th to check the status and was told that they had sent me an e-mail on the 16th requesting the receipt of purchase which I don't have since it was a gift and I did not get it from my friend. I'm not sure why the company did not request it when I 1st called on Jan. 4th. After reading all these other bad reviews, not sure how is company is still in business - they are an absolute fraud. I requested a copy of e-mail they claimed to have sent to me requesting receipt and still not received it.

The "bank" that supports Vanilla Visa is a scheme, and they are thieves.
