My card was blocked with no reason.

First off, I had never had a prepaid credit card before but I had been using Green Dot MoneyPak to send money to a friend 1800 miles away. One day I see the Green Dot Visa card and I figure that that would be easier and cheaper to send money. So I purchase the card at Dollar General and put money on it. First off I find that there were some websites that rejected the card?!? I hadn't expected that. Second off, and this is the big one, I put on $195.00 so that I could pay a large bill online. I put the money on the card on the 4th. Everyday you get an email with a balance and the next day I get one saying I have a balance of less than $30.00?!? I figure the email just hasn't been updated so I go to the website and see a charge from Walmart.com for $160.77 made the same day I had loaded the card.
I call Green Dot customer service right away and tell them I HATE WALMART and never use them or go there. She closes that card and issues me another one and tells me it will be 7 to 10 days until I will get my reimbursement. They have a feature when you call to hear the DECLINED TRANSACTIONS on your card. This is scary as hell. There were DECLINED TRANSACTIONS for every day of the week going back all the way to the day I received my new card!!!! How has someone already gotten the number to my NEW CARD?!? Anyway, I called today to see why I haven't been reimbursed for the Walmart False purchase and I am told I will have to fill out a form and sign it and mail it in. I WOULD HAVE DONE THIS 10 DAYS AGO if I was told to then!!! This is incompetence!!! As soon as I get my refund back I'm killing this card and service. STAY FAR AWAY FROM GREEN DOT!!!

Customer service is very complicated and rude. Cancellation and refunds you have to wait 10 days or longer. They don't care for trying to help you. They make up any kind of lie to get out of doing their job which is CUSTOMER SERVICE. Rating POOR.

I have a Wal-Mart Green Dot card and have had it for over five years and this year March 2015 after I added $1500 on it Wal-Mart blocked my card. So I called their customer service line and it was a pre-recorded message saying that I can push start to unblock my card but that I will no longer be able to load my card or use it for direct deposit and will not be allowed to receive another one because they could not verify my identity.
So me thinking it was Wal-Mart that caused the problem I went out and got a RushCard which is part of Green Dot. And once I registered the card online Green Dot responded and said that they would not send me a card because they could not verify my identity even though they got my name, home address, date of birth, and social security number and was born in this country and over 40 years old. With plenty of proof who I am Green Dot has really dropped the ball with this one but I'm done with them ‘coz they're not worth the headache.

I bought a Green Dot card, put money on it and used my card twice. My taxes got deposited on February 24. Went to go use it that day to buy birthday presents for my boyfriend's daughters. My card was declined. I called the number on the back of the card and they told me that it was on hold until they verify my identity and to send a picture ID to the Website they gave me. I told them that my ID was expired and they told me that when I get a new one to take a picture of it and then send it to the Website.
When I got my new ID I sent the picture to the Website. It said it was successfully uploaded and they would contact me in two business days. They never did so I called them. When I talked to the lady she told me that it was still on hold because my ID was a paper one that the DMV gave me until my new one comes in the mail. I told her that I am waiting until the hard copy comes in the mail and she said to just send the paper copy again. Sent it again waited the two business days that it said and still no one contacted me. I called again and the lady I talked to said that they did not receive any picture ID and that I needed to send it again. I told her I would send it a third time.
Told my boyfriend what she said and he called back and talked to the same lady. She told him she needed to talk to me. I talked to her and she told me that there was nothing she could do until I upload my ID again. I read her what it said when I uploaded my ID on the Website. She put me on hold . When she came back on the line she said that she was going to put an investigation on my card to why they still have the hold on it because they received my ID and they would contact me with in 24 hrs. Waited a little over 24 hrs no one contacted me. I called back again.
The guy that I talked to said they did not receive any picture ID from me and that I needed to send it again. I told him what the lady said the night before when I called and he told me that she shouldn't have said anything and that he couldn't help me until the rep contacted me. I asked to talk to one of the rep and he told me unfortunately they do not take phone calls from customers and that I needed to just upload my ID again, wait 2 business days and not to call back because on the 3 business day someone would contact me. Going down to the BBB in the morning and filing a complaint. I want my money.

A friend of mine has his Veteran's retirement check automatically deposited on a Green Dot prepaid card every month. He has had this card for about 4 years. The money was deposited on Feb. 28th and the next day, he called them to try to transfer some funds and they started to ask him some security questions and when he couldn't remember what the street address where he lived 4 yrs ago was they blocked his account saying he couldn't unblock it until he could verify his I.D. and of course he could do this online at such and such address. He doesn't have a computer so his caregiver called and they told him maybe they could fax it to this address. He tried. "No, you can't fax it." So he called back and they told him he could email it.
Ok so they brought it to me and I scanned it then email it and it was sent right back undelivered because it wasn't a valid address. So they called and got another address and I emailed it and it came right back - no valid address. At this point I told them to bring all the information and ** to my house and I'd see what I could do. Before I go any further, let explain about my friend **, he is a decorated Vietnam who was shot 4 times and did 3 tours in Vietnam. Because of this, he has a few health issues (breathing, arthritis, heart damage, and most recent Parkinson's which is in the later stages and full blown). So as you can see, he needs to have his income. He has to eat properly and there are some meds and treatment he is responsible for and a 14-year daughter to support. He can't drive anymore and needs to have someone with him all the time. Because of his shaking, he will fall and can't get back up.
I called the only number they have and was told to upload it online and I did and finally they got it. The supervisor (which I got to talked to only because she answered the phone) told me that once they got it, they'd verify it and lift the ban. Ok so I give them 1 hour, called back and was told it takes at least 2 business days to be approved depending how many accounts they have to do. "I had just talked to a supervisor and was told they could do it immediately." "OH NO," SHE SAID. "Well then put another supervisor on the phone." She can't transfer you to a supervisor or a department or anybody because they are strictly a call center. So if they can't help you, how is it that they can put a hold on your money! The supervisor is a supervisor over the call center.
I got right online and looked up every bank they were affiliated with and finally came up with the Go Bank which was a online bust and the Bonneville Bank and the first thing you see on that sight is: "To talk to a teller, call such and such. To get 24-hr help, call..." I couldn't believe it. They purposely make it as difficult as possible to get any help! So they transferred me to the right person and I was able to explain to her and she lifted the block. So when he went to find his card today, he finds out his ex who hasn't received her money for the month cut up his card. So I called them again to see if they could expedite a new card overnight and was told no and have to order a new card online only. So he still has no money. This is the most inane company I have ever dealt with. Tomorrow I am contacting the Veteran Administration and asking them to into this for my friend and hopefully they will put a warning out about these cards.

I purchased a Green Dot card for my income tax return. They took all my info, sent me a card with my name on it in the mail with no problem, my tax return was deposited March 4th. I made one purchase then my card was blocked. I have since then sent in my identification of my west Virginia drivers license 3 times. They said it could take up to 2 days, this is day 3 and my card is still blocked. I have contacted a local news station to report this activity and have read the reports on this page and have noticed that it's not only me with this problem. So anybody in or around Martinsburg that has had the same issue should contact your local news station, don't let them think they can get over on us like this. Long story short, I tried to use my card that was given to me as a Christmas gift in March. It was invalid every time. Couldn't even get into my account because it was the security code was wrong! This is how you solve the problem if you're going through the same thing: Call Visa and tell them to get you to a real person at Green Dot. They will try to give you a number to call or tell you they will transfer you to answer security questions. DON'T DO EITHER OF THOSE OPTIONS. Tell THEM to get them on the line. They will answer your questions. Also, found out that I didn't have $50 on my gift card because they had been taking out $5 a month for services charges! Outrageous. Hope this helps someone.

They never canceled any of them out. Well 10 days ago I asked them cause I wanted to make a dispute on a charge. Well the guy told me he will do it himself! I said “No sir, I want to do it not you. So I can use my own words!” I told him 12 times not to do it. He ignores every word I said and locked my account to where I can't access my 2,200 dollars.
Now my electric is being shut off. Lost my apt today on the 1st of March - being evicted. Lost my job, everything. I have a 4 month old baby boy and a 3 yr old little girl. We're about to be homeless. I called min later, spoke w a so-called supervisor for over an hour saying they can't unlock it when they are the ones who did it W/O my permission and asking 12 times not to do so. Well it’s been 10 days, NO CARD. I asked them where it was. She said “Sorry ma'am, it hasn't been issued yet to be sent” - when the other girl supervisor asked me my address 4 times. Told me in 3 to 5 business days it will arrive. Nope, 10 day - never got it still.
I AM screwed because of Green Dot .They robbed me and my children's going to a church to borrow $$$ for diapers cause I trusted them and they robbed me. They refuse to let me speak to corporate or have corporate’s phone number. Now it's saying my information doesn't exist. WTF I got robbed by a so called trusted company for everything I have that was taxes for my children. Please someone help me. I called over 30 numbers - NO help. And emailed so call corporate 6 times - no response. What do I do if a company w no real address exist. I advise no one to use this card. The employees are thieves. They refused their names and asked me for my social, birthday, first name, last name over and over - plus has my card information. My little baby has to suffer because of this company.

Purchased a green dot card from my local CVS Pharmacy. I put two hundred and twenty dollars on the card and then tried to purchase something online my purchase called Green Dot support. I was informed that I could not use the card, the temporary card online. About a week later but I received my plastic card. I attempted to use it at a gas station it was declined. I called Green Dot support again and was informed that my account has been frozen due to suspicious activity. I asked if they could tell me what that was and they could not. I was told to fax their forms of ID to Staples, I was informed that they could not send a fax to the 800 number without putting a one in front of it even though I was told by green dot support that I could not include the one in front of the 800 number. I then submitted the forms of ID via email.
Two weeks later I called Green Dot support again because my card was still frozen. Green Dot support informed me that my Claim had been closed a day or so before I had submitted the forms via email, something that the previous representative had not informed me. The representative who I was speaking to at the time then reopen my claim and attached the documents that I had sent it via email to the new claim number. I called again two weeks later because my card was still frozen. I was then informed that even though they had received my three forms of ID they were not going to review my claim because the three forms of ID are not submitted through the website and was told to submit the forms through greendot.com backslash verify. It is now a day later and I have yet to do so. Due to my extreme anger and frustration with green Dot, I do not know what to do. Is what they are doing even legal?

Approximately one month ago, I recently purchased a Green Dot card from a MoneyPak at CVS. I called & activated my card so that I could receive a permanent, personalized card. I spoke to a service rep that I would receive my phone in 2 weeks. I waited, but I still only had access to my temporary card as well as my regular bank card & cash. The rep I spoke to stated that the card was returned to them, with no explanation as to why. She then placed an order for a new card & asked me to confirm the address on file & even read it back to me, telling me that they would be giving me a new card in the mail & it would arrive in approximately 2 weeks. I asked if expedited shipment was a possibility; she said only if I paid $19 & I refused to cover those costs for someone else's mistakes. Nonetheless, I wasn't really in too much of a hurry at that time so I decided to wait.
I attempted to use that card some time a couple weeks after I had placed an order for my new card, under the impression that the temporary card would work until my personalized card was issued. I was told that my transactions were declined although I had sufficient funds on the card. I figured that my card should have come by now but couldn't figure out why it hadn't. After seeing that my card never arrived after their 2nd attempt to mail it & that I had just put $300 on my card that I had no access to, I became angry. This was when I called the company again.
I spoke to one lady who informed me that I should've received the card by now b/c the address that I repeated to her was the one they had on file. She asked if I wanted to put another address & I told her that my address isn't the issue. The issue is that I don't have a problem receiving mail from anyone else except that company. She told me to give the card until Monday & if it doesn't come, call back. I agreed to do that but I needed my money to get repairs done on my car & if that card didn't show up, it would take 2 weeks for them to send the 3rd card. I called & called to see what could be done.
I spoke to another rep the 2nd time I called who was rude, disrespectful & accusatory. He cut me off while I was talking & told me that there was apparently an issue with the address. When I abruptly informed him that I haven't had issues with any other mail, he then said, "Well maybe you're pretending that you didn't receive the card." As my blood began to boil & my temperature began to rise, I unwittingly lost my temper & cursed him out. I called him an ** & told him to put the ** supervisor on the phone b/c he was pissing me off. Needless to say, it took forever to get a supervisor & they ended up sending me to a survey. SMH, I gave him horrible ratings & called back hoping to speak with someone.
The gentleman & ladies transferred me about 3 times & I finally got to someone who could help me. I explained the situation & My unwillingness to cover the expedited shipping due to circumstances in which someone else was blameworthy. He said he would ship it to their corporate office, waive the fee for FEDEX & that my card could, should arrive on or before 2/27/15. I will call Monday to obtain a tracking number through FedEX & if my card doesn't show up, it'll be some smoke in the city.
This company is fraudulently withholding money from its customers to make interest on their funds. It's a huge scam & they are scandalous & sheisty & they need to be reported by every local news & ppl need to contact their district attorneys about these dirt bags.

First issue: My personalized card was never received. I applied online around the 23rd of January. Received a confirmation email from GREENDOT - my card was on its way and shipped 28th of January. My DD for my taxes was 2/13, but still no card. When I called the CSR on 2/13, they said the deposit is there but there is a BLOCK on my account for verification purposes. She then gave me a website I had to upload my documents to. I sent the information on the same day and was told the verification process with take TWO days. I then asked “why I hadn't received my personalized card”… and I'm told “because you have to be verified before they send the personalized card.”
In my opinion, very unprofessional handling of people taxes this year. I am aware of scams involving Greendot within the last year...so I do understand the measures it may have to take to prevent fraud. But to outright lie and say a card was sent when it's not is not professional in my opinion. It actually started an argument between myself and an associate I thought was dishonest when they said the mail did not come. It is now 2/16 and reading my complaints...I see they are doing this to a lot of people doing DD on taxes this year. So before committing your taxes to their card this year, I would get as much information as possible before making the decision.

This time I refused to send in any verification, especially since I did that the year before already. They sent my money back to the IRS who is now still "reviewing" my return. They got suspicious when it was sent back. I still have not gotten the money that was released February 3, 2014. I am honestly scared to file right now. I do not know if I am going to be able to file. I feel that if the IRS approves our money, Green Dot should have no right to take it from us. They do all this crap to sabotage our money. He couldn't answer but proceeded to tell me that they needed to verify my identification and I needed to fax them a copy of my DL and SS card. I asked why they needed that when I already verified that with my tax preparer when I first submitted, and it should not be an issue. He ignored that and repeated what they "needed" sent in. I received my tax refund again for the 3rd year in a row and deposited it to my green dot card. They decided that I spent too much money in one day and blocked my card. I called them yesterday and asked what was going on, this was the explanation that I got from them. "Ok. Fine, thanks for your concern and for the protection in place. But please take it off." They agreed to take the block off of my card if I could answer a few security questions. I answered them successfully. They took the block off. Great. They suggested that I add more time in between my next few transactions for the day and told me that I had a certain amount that I could spend per day. I didn't go over that limit.
So, I wake up the next day (today) and decide to pay some bills online. Everything is declining again. I call green dot to find out if my card was blocked yet again. When I asked why, they told me that I spent too much in one day. They were doing it to protect me. I asked that they please take it off and that I can answer any security questions that they might have. I was told at that time that they couldn't take the block off of my card, because it was permanent. Say what?? Why? Because they decided to do it to protect me, and I could call back in 10 days and ask for a refund.
I immediately panicked and starting explaining and literally begging that jerk of a customer service rep (Mae was her name - if that's really her name at all) to please don't do that. This is my only means of having any $. I can't pay my rent, my bills, or even buy food for ten days if they do this. She and I went back and forth for a couple of minutes. I got very angry and yelled at her that I believe that what they are doing is illegal. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she told me that she was a supervisor. I highly doubt that she is at the top if she is answering the phone. She then told me there was nothing else that I could do, she was ending the phone call; and hung up on me! I'm really worried that they aren't going to give my money back to me.
I called back and someone name "Florence" answered the second time. She sounded like the same woman honestly. Anyway, she told me that she could pass my "concern" and my "inquiry" along to their investigative team. She also said she didn't know why "Mae" told me that there was only one option to call back in 10 days. And, that she would let her supervisor know. (I am really skeptical that anything will happen to her.) However, I have to provide a copy of my license and my social security card by sending it to their fax number. Someone from their management team would call me on Monday. Don't know who, or what time they will call...
Even if they decide to lift the block, I will still have to wait until February 10th to be able to access my own money. I'm so in disbelief and I don't know what I'm going to do for money until then. I'm a single mom of 5 kids, dependent on this card. I can't even buy groceries or gas to get to my kid's school or go to work. I really don't want to even use their card anymore. I've been a very good customer to them for 4 years. I'm scared they are going to keep it. I've seen all of the complaints online and I'm really worried.
Bottom line: I would recommend that if you don't have a bank account, that you use a prepaid VISA or Mastercard (not through Green Dot). I do not believe that Green Dot operates with dignity, or honesty. They are very in-compassionate and won't make any exception even with proof of your identity. They are really pitiful organization. As soon as I'm able to, I will switch to another card.

We used Green Dot/ Walmart Money Card for our income tax refunds. The IRS released our funds on time, but Green Dot froze our account when they received the deposit. They told us that our account had been flagged because the deposit was suspicious - because nobody should be expecting a deposit from the Federal IRS during tax season - and that we need to verify our identity. We had previously verified identity with them and the documentation they requested was the same they already had on file. We complied and faxed the requested documents.
When we called to verify they had received them, they would not even verify that much. Instead we were told that they would review our account and to check back in ten business days. After reading the comments in several social media groups, including that of Green Dot itself, it is clear that they are putting this ten-day hold on nearly all federal refunds coming through their bank. We have filed complaints with the BBB and the Federal Reserve. Once our funds are released we will no longer be using Green Dot services.

Today I get a call saying that being that I didn't buy the reload myself, there would be no refund. WHAT? My ex (well almost-ex) bought it for me. He (Green Dot thief) said if you read on the back of the card it says do not give out your card info. It is for your purpose to load to your own card, no one else's. It's a total friggin' scam operation they have going on.

I went to Walmart to load $50 on my RushCard to pay an important insurance bill. It normally takes 15 minutes and I have done this dozens of times. However this time the money never made it to my card. I kept my receipt which has all the details of the transaction. After discussions with Walmart and RushCard it was determined that the fault was with Green Dot, who is responsible for making the transaction between Walmart and RushCard. Needless to say, there have been several phone calls, several promises. I was given a case number, first told I would have my money in 24 hours, then 2-4 days, then two weeks, all lies. Never got my $50 deposit and they charged me $3.74 for the transaction which felt like just another kick in the teeth.
They have my money to do with what they want and my insurance was cancelled. I had to pay a $10 fee to renew. I doubt I will ever see that money again, or get a refund for them screwing me, or an apology for the extra cost I incurred from my insurance company. Their customer service people are experts at giving you the runaround, no real answers to where your money is or what they have done with it, or when you might ever get it back. I don't understand how this scam is even legal, and shame on Walmart for their association with this shady company.

5 days after filing Green Dot called and said they knew that someone had stolen our money and if we report this to the police they could tell the police who did it.
We went to the police several times but they were told they needed a subpoena to get who stole the money. Our jurisdiction demands a crime be over $300 for a court demand.
We called Green Dot who NOW claimed that they had concluded an investigation and KNEW we were victims of intimidation and then committed fraud and we must be lying because the only way to get that money would be to have access to the numbers beneath the scratch off. We got madder. I begged Green Dot Corporate lackey to tell me who--but he said we might go beat them up. I begged him to check and see if the card the MoneyPak had been deposited to was close to where we live/bought the card and/or belonged to anyone in our family---because if it wasn't, if it loaded a card of Mike ** in **, Pennsylvannia, well that would prove our point. He refused to check. This is over $75. They have essentially either stolen or allowed it to be stolen and are claiming by intimidation or avarice we are in on it. SO MAD.

They gave me the specific dates that the holds were to be released, 12/20 and 12/23/14, and on those dates the funds were NOT released and the transactions simply vanished from my account history. Let me start by staying 3 years in a row I added my tax return to a Green Dot card, bi-weekly pay checks etc., with no problem. LOTS of money had come and gone through my Green Dot card. My mother tried to send money she owed me and was having a hard time finding the scratch off MoneyPaks. So when she found some she wrapped 3 and put money on one, saved the others for future transfers. She called me and said she forgot which MoneyPak number it was and gave me all three to try and add. I did unsuccessfully, when she realized she gave me the right number but off by one number.
So several hours later I go to reload with the CORRECT MoneyPak number and I'm transferred to a rep who can barely speak English - told me my account was temporarily suspended and will be reviewed and returned after 10 days (this mean I don't get my paycheck in two days or the money my mother was trying send me). He was argumentative (James Employee number **) and made me feel like a criminal. He ended up hanging up on me. I called back and the next representative told me I have been dropped from the Green Dot company and can never have a Green Dot card again. Very simple - my son received $160 in cash and credit loaded onto a Green Dot prepay VISA card for Xmas. The purchase was at Walmart. They said the card would be loaded and ready to use in a few minutes. The Visa card never was credited. Called The Green Dot number on the back of the card as indicated for problems. Spoke to several people. They requested a copy of the purchase receipt 3 different times (scanned and sent). Each time they said they would call back with a resolution and they did not call.
We contacted Green Dot more times than you could imagine until they finally said they denied the claim (denied what claim??? - this is money loaded onto their card by a Walmart employee and never was credited to the card). Green Dot said that the problem was not theirs but was Walmart’s. Went to Walmart and they said you must resolve through Green Dot. This went on from Dec 16 to Jan 5 and to date Jan 5, 2015 they have denied this "Claim" 6 times and Walmart made a call to them and they escalated to Green Dot Corp of whom just denied the Claim once again...
Now how does two companies WALMART AND GREEN DOT get away with taking a customer’s money, giving that customer a receipt for said purchase and then "deny the claim to receive your purchase"??? DO NOT BUY A GREEN DOT CARD. The service is absolutely terrifying and unbelievable. They treat you like you are a criminal when the entire time they took money through their WALMART dealer and the person left with nothing is YOU with no place to turn at all... You would think this is the most corrupt country in the world... Hmmm???? Amazing. (My son is getting ready to serve this country - joined the Navy and currently is unemployed so this money is very important to him.)
The wasted time/gas to and from a store that happens to be 20 min drive each way and the 20/30 minute calls that result in nothing - just absolutely unprofessional. I'm calling the police on the behalf on my disabled mother. Not only did they run her card a while back for a purchase that didn't even go through and have told her repeatedly for over a month they'll refund the money but that's the tiniest tip of the iceberg. My mother lost her card two months ago. She reported it lost and she reported to the social security office to not to send her social security payments to that card. Green dot gave her a new card number and social security sent the money to that card. Weeks later it had never arrived so we called green dot. They said they returned the check because of possible fraud issues and gave us a tracking number.
The tracking number showed the package of almost 3 pounds was delivered to some small town office is Bristol, PA, not the U.S. treasury, guessing that's not her check. Social security and the US treasury have essentially told my mother it's a green dot issue, tough luck on ever getting your money ever because now it's two checks that green dot has, the second one they are just "holding" and apparently have every intention of holding every check until the U.S. treasury receives the first check.
Two months of payment and green dot just keeps giving her the runaround over and over and refuses to fix this. We will call the police though apparently this is common and green dot doesn't give a crap. If we have to hire our family attorney to get her money and sue for legal fees we will. I don't give a crap where her check is, it's not our problem, it's theirs and she needs her money. That's the only money she has, her utilities are going to be shut off in the next week. We've been up to the social security office 8 times, she's been on the phone with green dot over 30 times at least.
These people are scam artists and criminals who are apparently stealing people's money and just keeping it for themselves, they say they just can't "find" people's money or are having trouble refunding or whatever but it's near impossible for anyone to get their own money back. I can't even believe this is a problem, it's absolutely insane. NEVER ever use this company or any of their cards, it may work fine until there's a problem and then you will regret it when you can't pay your bills or feed yourself. What is this country coming to that this is acceptable and no one has done anything?

They want your f-ing SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER to "set up your account with Green Dot bank!" My immediate thought was "WTF!?!" I did not activate the card, as I used common sense to realize that once I give my social security number, this will likely be something that will affect my credit and the security of my identity. Being that I tried every avenue possible to get a live person on the phone TO NO AVAIL, so as to claim that I did not have a social security number and see if they could activate the card without one (for my own protection), I decided to shred the card and take the loss of $25.
Always be wary of ANYONE that asks for your social security number. NEVER give out your number unless you KNOW FOR SURE that the person/company asking is legitimate. I will never ever buy one of these f-ing cards for anyone. I make sure to look at the packaging on credit-based gift cards now and if it asks you to register with them, I will not buy it. Most people I know memorize their number by the time they're 10 by which time the card is usually long gone. Why can't they verify my ID over the phone like any other credit card company? I'd be more than happy to provide anything verbally. But now I have to stand in line at the Social Security office to get a new card when my whole life I was fine simply memorizing the number!
I asked them why they don't have a system where you can verify it online. After all, they believed it was me when I first registered and gave them all my personal information. But NOW they won't believe it's me if I verify by phone or online any personal details they would ask me?!! With my bank (Chase) I resolve fraud issues quick and easy online, by phone or by text. And they are very rude telling me there's nothing I could do but wait and it's Christmas time and that was my Christmas money but they don't care. I don't think I will ever see that money again. And the number of the purchase they gave me to call was disconnect. I told them that and they said there is nothing they could do I would have to wait.

(I'm in Georgia) The night before I left for my trip I tried to activate the card 3 times on greendot.com and all 3 times it kicked it back saying invalid information. I decided since I had to be on the road early that I would just call their toll free number on their card once on the road and talk to a human. I got to my first gas stop and called Green Dot and their customer service rep informed me the card had been blocked for "Suspicious Behavior". I told her that I couldn't even activate the card and I was on the road 300 miles from home with a truck empty and needing gas. She informed me that the only way to activate the account was to fax her a picture of my driver's license and my social security card. I told her no way am I sending that information to a third world country.
Long story short, we (my boss and I) have conference called Green Dot well over a half dozen times, we have sent in every receipt and photo of the card we have but we will NOT send in any ss#. Every time we are told it's the only way we are getting our money back by Green Dot. Today we had a conference call with my boss and I, and the manager of Kroger Grocery customer service corporate stores and Green Dot and the rep from Kroger was appalled at how we were treated and our problems still not resolved!!
Green Dot put 4 different people on the phone and each time we were all put on hold for 20 minutes plus in between Green Dot hand offs and all the way up the line we talked to people from other countries all repeating the same line over and over "If you send us all your personal info, we can unblock the card". We have sent in receipts of our purchase of the card showing 500 dollars was put on it and Green Dot said they would investigate and get back to us in 24-48 hours... It's been well over a week and no call back and nothing resolved. Do NOT buy into this company. It's the biggest scam on the planet!!

My regular bank account has been closed so I pre-loaded the greendot.com pre-paid card with $320.00 while waiting on my new bankcard to arrive in the mail. I used it to paypal my best friend who works for Google $200 bucks I owed him and to order a pizza. Thought everything was great until I tried to use the card the next day. Declined.
During my lunch break I offered to pay for some crepes at the restaurant nearby, the card was declined. Confused, knowing there were funds in the account, merely $94.10 to be exact, I tried using it at Publix grocery store thinking it was just an issue with the restaurants POS card processing machine. Nope, still declined. So I contacted customer service. They told me that my card was blocked due to "suspicious" activity. I then responded, "What are you talking about, I only used it to paypal my friend and order a pizza." "Diane" the "supervisor" said that they will not unblock the card until they can verify my driver's license and social security card which can be faxed. I asked how long will it take for my card to be unblocked after I send in the required documents. She said "TEN BUSINESS DAYS. IT WILL GO THROUGH A REVIEW PROCESS." Really? Ten business days to unlock a card? Absolutely ridiculous.
I could have given her any information she needed including the fact I can login on greendot.com to access my account. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said that she is the supervisor. I asked the number to corporate and she said she cannot give that number out but corporate can contact me back in 1-2 business days. I was hoping to use that card to temporarily get me by for eating out or groceries, but that is not the case. I will never use green dot pre-paid cards ever again. Awful customer service.

The first time I did this there was $600 I put on the card and went to PayPal site which linked me to Green Dot's site. I put in required information and hit fund account, all I got was an error message stating try again, then technical difficulties, try in one hour. I had to put those funds on another prepaid debit card it wouldn't fund PayPal. Now I did it again, purchase the cardboard card with number to enter on website, this time $80. I thought surely an isolated incident, but it happened again. I've used my home computer, my smart phone and iPad. Doesn't work. I doubt I just have bad luck. Green Dot is a sheisty company that offers no live customer service. How can a company be allowed to do that? Are there no regulations for a company that strictly handles cash handling services?
PayPal, who advertises to be partnered with Green Dot, can't help either so after thousands of complaints they still remain partnered even though they are aware of a problem. Perhaps they are owned by same people. An ethical company would not do business with an unethical business unless... Why? Fill in the blank, it's pretty easy. My only options are refund and I read about those still waiting after 90 days, they get theirs instantly but us, not happening. Or I can load a prepaid card which cost additional money and goes to Green Dot. It's a freaking scam and why won't officials handle up on this scamming company? On 10/09/2014 I bought a Green Dot gold card from Walmart for $20. I bought this card because our debit card was stolen and we are waiting for the new one in the mail. I'm glad I only put $20 on the card because when I tried to use it today 10/15/2014 at an atm it said account closed. I went home, called the # on the back of the card and was told that my card has a hold on it. So I asked why and was told the hold was put on it on 10/09/2014 (the day I bought it) because of suspicious activity. I asked what suspicious activity because the card hadn't been used. She said she didn't have that info. Then I was told I could have access to the $20, all I had to do was send a copy of my driver's license and social security card. I explained that this doesn't make sense and I'm not comfortable sending a company who has basically stolen my $ from me all the info they need to steal my identity. She said that is the only way I will have access.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told she was it. Asked who put the hold on the acct and was told someone in the other building. Asked to talk to said person or anyone in other building, was told she couldn't do that. She also told me that my call was being recorded to which I replied "great, I want it to be recorded", even asked if I could have a copy so I could show everyone what they will have to go through if they do business with Green Dot, was told NO. The lady kept telling me all they need is my DL and SS card and I can have my money. I asked her if it was her daughter and someone took her money and told her all you have to do is "give us copies of all your personal info", would you tell her it's a good idea... She said it depends on the circumstances but no. Uh lady, you even know this is a scam.
I even asked her how many times a day does she have to take these calls and how many accounts are put on hold a day. She of course couldn't release that information. Just a simple statistic, lady, on how many people you do this to? That's all I want! Although she repeated that she understood my frustration and that she was Sorry in her best English possible she clearly was not. She talked over me and for every question I asked she said she couldn't give me that info! I never got a single notice in form of text, email, call, Morse code, nothing from the Green Dot company letting me know that there was "suspicious activity" with my card. I also told her that I gave her company a chance to fix this and that I would be filing with the BBB and I would be giving reviews on every possible website and making sure I go to social media with this scam.
She of course said that there's no reason to do that, just give my DL and SS card. Uh no. I did my part and let this company try to make this right before I posted or reviewed on any site. This is the route they had me go. Glad I was at an ATM and not trying to purchase something in person. How embarrassing would that have been. It's ridiculous that I went to the store, paid for this company's service and now they are not fulfilling their end. I'm sure they will let this go on until their monthly fees eat up my measly little $20. When she was clearly done talking to me she decided that she wasn't the only one I could talk to. But she would have to take my # so someone could call me back. I said, "Great, here's my #. When can I expect a call?"... 24-48 hrs. Ha, of course.
You have 48 hours and then I'll be calling the # on the back of the card and any other # I can find for this company every 10 min until something is done. I'm a stay at home mom and I can make the time to drive this company nuts until something is done. I will not give copies of my DL and SS card. Hope everyone read the reviews before buying this and not after as I did! Good Luck to all of you going through the same thing. I also highly suggest that if you have to use these products don't put on more money than you can stand to lose!

Green Dot told me to have another replacement sent out. {What happen to the first replacement card}? Where is it? Did they even send it? I mean I’m getting mail from everyone else. No Green Dot card being that I have Direct Deposit set up. I'm trying to get that canceled out. I don't know if to cancel the replacement card, {that I don't have}, or what? I called all day everyday, only to get the runaround. They're asking for my SS#, old card #, they want me to put a physical address on file.
Being that I have been dealing with Green Dot for at least 4 years, I have never had this issue before. Always got my card in my Po Box no problem. I'm going to get my $598.18 back. {Even if I have to go back to the people that deposited the money on my card and ask them to reverse the transaction}.
All Green Dot does is give you the run around. I never had a problem with a Moneypak. However, I’m seeing that there are lots of complaints on here. When I called on 10/10/2014 the man told me to go and buy a Moneypak and call him back with the information. Registering it to my name. I asked him would I do that when I already have a card registered to my name? That would make no sense and that sounds like some type of scam. I can't and I will not take a $598.18 loss. It's about to be Christmas time and I can't afford this to happen to me nor my kids. I don't want to get locked out of my account. Even though I think I already am. Being that it states I have a security block on my account. {I need my card to unlock it, a card that I never even got in my PO Box}.
I guess I’m going to be forced to order another replacement card. Hoping that I get my card in 7- 10 days. I don't know what's the big deal about sending a replacement card. They said it either got lost in the mail or someone stole it. {I’m thinking they never sent it}. I don't know, all I know is if you don't have a Green Dot card, you better not get one. I'm trying hard to get my money off that card and cancel my Green Dot card. ASAP!!!! This is the worst.

And now, I miss my payment, lose my great rating, and, not only do have to wait 2 business days, I have to wait 2 WEEKS for a refund! Never again. GreenDot is the worst experience ever.

Please do not use green dot cards, they are only used in scams. I was recently scammed out of $355 using a green dot card, and everyone I know who has ever used these cards has had a terrible experience. If you need proof, just look at their reviews and then decide for yourself.

On Sunday September 14th I purchased 6 MoneyPaks of $400 each and loaded them on my Green Dot card. On Monday I withdrew $400 from the bank ATM. Tuesday I withdrew $400, and Wednesday another $400. So on Thursday I had a balance of $1182.00 and I swipe my card to buy a pack of cigarettes and it says it declined it. I called Green Dot and the recording says my account is being closed for suspicious activity!!! So I talk to a Green Dot employee and she says they can't give me any reason why and I can't ever have a Green Dot Card again. I've had the same Green Dot account for 5-6 years. So basically I did nothing wrong, they close my account, charge me fees to add and remove my money. Don't use Green Dot because they have no care for their customers, and the owner of this company should be sent to jail for fraud.

My direct deposit went in last Wednesday total 936$. My wife called and needed 200$ right away in her account to make our car payment. I called our credit union and I asked if I could give them my Green Dot prepaid visa card # and have 200 put into our account to make the car payment with them. They told me no problem. They ran my card, then told me they were having a problem getting any response-not rejected, just nothing. They ran the card 2 more times, same thing. I went online and discovered 3 payments for 204$ had been authorized (apparently Green Dot charged a 4$ fee for each) for a total of 612$!! I called Green Dot and they verified the authorizations went through, and they had the 3 codes authorizing and everything looked normal except the vendor had not yet claimed the funds.
I called the credit union and they said nothing was sent to them. They could not accept the codes from me, per policy. I called Green Dot who put all blame on my bank and refused to call or accept any call from my bank to verify. Green Dot said vendor could cancel, and it would then take 3-5 bus days for the money to show in my account. If not canceled, money would remain pending 14 days!! My bank said they could not cancel because they had not received anything at all so they had no official transaction. I went online today and made a purchase for 56$. The purchase request was rejected. (I have been doing business for 8 years with this company and have made hundreds of purchases with no problem).
I went to Green Dot website and the amount was pending again!! I stopped in at Target, made a 4$ purchase -purchase again rejected, went home and found the amount pending! So a total of $665 for 5 purchases from 3 different vendors (a bank, Target, and a trusted long-term company)-all authorized by Green Dot, none paid or have any means to be paid. My credit union gave me a pay day loan to survive the next couple of weeks...fee is 90$. My car payment was late. I still have $70 on my card I probably can not spend and Green Dot has 12$ of fees. At this point Green Dot only repeats if vendors cancel (which they cannot) the money will be back in 3-5 bus days... otherwise 14 days... but how will I be able to access my money when it shows up?
Obviously there is a problem on their end, and they have no concern to fix anything. They keep saying all is well on their end. One vendor, maybe...3 vendors...I think it is obvious they (Green Dot) are screwing up! What do you all think???

Had been traveling internationally and domestically for a year. I bought a Green Dot card and filled it on the way out of Vegas to Puerto Rico, as I did not want my personal bank info used in Puerto Rico. So I loaded $1,000USD onto the card and purchased a ticket to San Juan for $222USD. Upon arriving in Puerto Rico I basically used cash, with the exception of using the card a few times at a large department store for a clothing purchase.
On arriving back at my accommodation, I checked Greendot.com for balance inquiry only to find nearly $500 in unauthorized charges. Some of them from Delta. I called them first and they corrected the problem immediately. I then called Green Dot and it took over an hour to talk to a person. Anyone who has had to call customer service can attest they outsource their customer service to India and why I don't deny any person to try to make a decent wage. Not one of the people there was interested in trying to sort out these fraudulent charges. After several more attempts at sorting this out I gave up out of frustration as it was ruining my holiday.
Well the last week I was in Puerto Rico, I ran into a fellow veterinarian in Puerto Rico and told him about my situation with Green Dot's customer service that is outsourced to India. He being from India himself sympathized with me and offered to speak to them on my behalf. I agreed as $500US had been stolen from me and it would help to have the funds back. We made the call and they actually refunded the money, though first they had first canceled the other card. I told him I would be flying to the Virgin Islands next week and here is the address to send the new card. He relayed all of this info to them and I even received an email with address change and notification that a new card was being sent. I thanked my friend and looked forward to having the stolen monies back and a new card.
Well here we are today on 11/09/20014 and still have yet to receive the card. On top of that, the other card was never cancelled until last week and although they refunded the $500US there was still ongoing fraud on this card until it was finally cancelled last week. The call we made was on 26/08/2014! I called today and inquired about when the card is going to arrive and while the card was not cancelled till last week. They said it was cancelled due to a complaint about fraudulent activity. I explained that the claim was made nearly 2 weeks prior. She also informed me that a new card was never issued.
Although she could send me a check for the remaining balance of $78.23US. Also that they will never reissue me another Green Dot card ever again.. HA as if I would ever want one. I explained I am traveling and can't do much with a check but also asked about the other $500USD that was stolen and the additional $400US that was stolen again. I was told she would ask her supervisor about it even though I was told she was the supervisor.
Basically it boils down to this company gladly taking your money shutting you down with their shoddy customer service. Then turning their back on you after you make a complaint by literally banning you from their service. This is a company that needs to be held accountable for their actions. Especially with them in charge of people's finances. While I can afford to take the $500US hit to my pocket there are probably other people that can't. I know some people rely on these cards to pay bills such as rent, insurance, mobile, etc.
Us collectively as consumers need to make sure none of our friends, family or co-workers ever use this company. I will be active in social media to make sure I put the truth out about this horrible company. I hope one person can read this or any of the other comments on here and it keeps them away from using Green Dot.

I've been a GreenDot customer for several years. I had been loading around $1,000 per month onto the card every month and use it to pay online bills and make purchases in stores. I got a VIP card which costs extra money several months ago and had no problems with it until one day I went to the store and my card was declined. I was sure I had money on it and checked my balance which was over $200 at the time. I then proceeded to call customer service and received an automated message saying that my card was blocked, that I could not reload it or register a new card with GreenDot, and to press a key to allow my remaining balance to be taken off the card. I did that, and then attempted multiple times to contact someone over the phone to speak to about this since I had no idea what was going on.
Annoyingly, there was no option to speak to a human, even after pressing 0 or 5 (as suggested by live chat). I then e-mailed GreenDot through the web site and got a phone call from someone who didn't speak English very well and was hard to understand. But it seems that I was flagged by their system automatically for "suspicious activity" -- which made me think that perhaps it was because I moved to another state and had family getting me Moneypaks in my old state, but they wouldn't go into detail about how or why this happened, and told me that they couldn't override the decision. So after 3 days, I still have no idea why they want to lose me as a customer and won't even let me explain my situation, because there should have been nothing that was "suspicious" about my usage of the card if anyone had really listened to me.
So after paying them the VIP fee + maintenance fee for years, they decided they want to lose me as a customer, won't give me a good explanation, or another chance. This has caused a lot of issues for me with paying bills and receiving money from my family now, when I've already been stressed about moving for the last month. Very frustrating and I would no longer recommend this service to anyone.

I bought a $50 money pack card and a $200 money pack card at the Pilot truck stop in Las Vegas. I am a truck driver and I was trying to send money home to my wife. The $50 money pack card worked fine but the $200 one did not work. The pilot truck stop would not give me my money back. They called the money pack company and had to argue with them for 3 hours and I still did not get my money on the card or back in my hand. The Green Dot customer service agent said I would have to wait 1 to 7 days. They also said they would call me 2 days later and never did. It is now 5 days later and I still do not have my $200. That money was to pay my wife's car payment and now we could get the car taken because Green Dot did not provide the service they offered me.

Bought card in June of this year 2014. My new employer requires have a direct deposit. I decided to try green dot. When I bought my card I put 15.00 to start the process. I registered online and received a rt# and account number. The sole purpose for buying the card was to have access to my cash. My employer immediately starting sending my payroll on the card. The problem is I have not received my personalize card yet. I have requested it 3 times already. They keep giving me dates when it was sent, I have never received it. I have even changed the address. I have no problem receiving mail, this is terrible. I have $400.00 on that card, and do not have access. I am at wits end.
