Finally I had no choice but to accept their 7.99% @ 2% till 1/2011 Special Offer. Feb bill came & they charged me $10.00 & 5%. Phoned them-they would correct it. (NOT) Mar bill came & they charge me $10.00 & 5% & late Fee and now want $1169. pymt. This never ends & they can't get even the Special Offer correct. I feel like not paying them at all. I had a 4.9% interest for as long as I carried the balance and met monthly minimums and due dates, which I did. In January 2009, I noticed that an additional $10 fee was tacked on to my bill. When I asked Customer Services about it, I was told that the terms and conditions of my card had changed as of January 1, 2009.
I promptly paid off the balance with my February bill, thinking the $10 service charge would go away. It didnt! My March bill reflected a $2.34 interest plus another $10 service charge. I called Customer Services to request that both charges be taken off from my account. The rep. said could remove my $10 fee but was not authorized to remove the $2.34 interest charge. I asked to speak to his supervisor, who informed me that this was in error. The Supervisor could remove the $2.34 interest but not the $10 charge and this charge would remain in effect as long as the card was active, regardless as to whether I used the card or not. This left me feeling like Im being used to finance Chases own financial problems. Here I am, doing everything right, only to be taken advantage of!

I had left my wallet in a WalMart store and nobody had turned it in by the end of that day. I proceeded to cancel cards and get new-one of which was my Chase card. I have NEVER been late on a payment including when i had a $200,000 Chase mortgage. I don't recall and cannot find in ALL of my statements that i keep my statement for February (during the time i switched the cards and got a new account#)...i just received my March statement and was SHOCKED when i opened it to find a $39.00 late fee AND that my interest rate went from the promotional amount of 0.00% to a whopping 27.24%! Of course i immediately called Chase and of course was told there was NOTHING they could do. I even told them i'm not asking to be put back to the 0%, but can't u even put me to the 7.9 it was going to be after the promotion was over...nope...they would do NOTHING. I have a credit score of 700...not too many people can say that anymore after the way the economy is now. I asked them what the incentive was to have/keep a good credit score when u still recieve a percentage as if your credit was TERRIBLE!!! Chase does not care about their customers PERIOD. This is an outrage that they can get away with doing this to customers...and it sounds like they are doing this to ALOT of us.

I actually didn't agree to be with Chase but b/c they bought out WaMu I am now a customer with them. I have been using my WaMu card now for over a year and never had a problem with them until now b/c they have now become Chase. I paid my bill in February of $40.00 and then I spent $10.00 on my credit card and because of this they added finance charges and some other kind of fee to make me go over the limit which caused me to have a $39.00 over the limit fee. So now it is March 9 which I went to pay online the amount due which is not due til March 11 only to find out they charged me another $39.00 over limit fee.....they didn't even give me a chance to get my account up to date before the bill was even due before adding in another fee. So I call them up and wait for 35 minutes before someone answers and when I finally spoke to someone they could barely understand a word that was coming out of my mouth and not only that she was trying to explain how they could do this and was yelling at me...actually my wife could hear her across the house yelling at me over the phone...that was how loud she was. She was very rude and didn't want to help at all. This makes me sick. I have been out of work since Oct. 2008 and I am the only one that brings in any income, I have a family of 5 and soon to be one more on the way and now I have to pay $130 to get out of $10.00 mistake that really is there fault. How can they get away with this!!! It is sickening! The rich getting richer off the poor and have no remorse whatsover. I am trying to keep my credit in good standing but whats the point! They are screwing up so many ppl's lives its no wonder we are in the economic crisis that we are in!!!!!!!

I have contacted Chase credit card services to understand what a default mean by them. I could not get a correct answer. This is what happened to me. I have a chase freedom card and I am customer for them for the past one year or so. I got a balance transfer for an year from them as well. In one of my payments, I have wrongly given the bank routing number and the debit got rejected. I found that soon and paid the amount 10 days before the due date. For the check return, I have paid an amount of 35 dollars as the fee since it was my mistake. With American Express, this amount was waived as a first time mistake by customer. I have no qualms with Chase since it was my mistake and I asked the customer care executive whether there would be any impact whatso ever due to this rejection of direct debit. I am told there won't any issue since I paid well before due date. To my surprise at the end of the statement period, I am charged around 200 odd dollars as financial fees and I could see all my APRs were more than doubled. I called the customer care and I am told I have defaulted. I told them that since I paid before the due date, it is not a default. Though they agreed to that they still were not ready to waive off that amount. After repeated calls to some account department as well, I got some part of that fees waived and APRs reinstated. I have paid all the remaining amount and closed the card. Now I have been slamed with some more financial charge saying that though they have credited the amount, the charges are being applied based on the last month's statement and between the paid date and statement end date. When I closed the card I asked the customer care representative about how much I have to pay. He gave me the balance amount what I could see online and I have paid. I told the same scenario to the customer care executive now and they are saying that I have to pay the charges since their software system is always correct. I sincerely recommend not to go with Chase cards as they usually try to punish loyal customers for their mistakes.

On March 2, 2009 Chase withdrew my February payment of 200.00 from my checking account without my permission.
They claimed that I had gave them permission over the telephone to automatically withdraw this amount monthly.I never would have okay ed this to happen because my finances are very limited. I had only made an over the phone payment for the month of January. I spoke to an agent that asked if I would like to up the payment to 200.00 from 173.00. I agreed on this only. Nothing was ever discussed about having the amount withdrawn automatically. I found a letter that they sent stating this only after this all happened.I had never opened it. Because of this withdraw I was overdrawn and charged 81.00 dollars for overdraft fees. I called my tax lady up who I had a check out to and explained the situation so that maybe she could wait to deposit my check. It was embarassing and the whole week was ruined because of the unauthorized withdraw. I feel that I was robbed. Chase sent me a letter after I called them demanding my money back. They said after investigating the incident that they would not be repaying me the 200.00 or the overdraft fees from my bank.

I closed my Chase Credit Card because I was ready to pay off several credit cards. I had gotten the card to consolidate another credit card about a year and a half ago, but they moved my payment date and I was late, so they charged me a late fee and spiked my 'promotional' rate to 18.49%. I went to autopay, so I would never miss another payment, but wasnt making a dent in the principal, because the interest was so high. A month ago, I paid off the entire balance, after logging into their system to see my total amount due. I waited for my payment of this total amount to go through, then called them to cancel my account. Their automated balance system told me I had a zero balance and then I spoke to an account representative to close the account. He told me I had zero balance and closed the account.
Now, two weeks later, I get a statement in the mail. They claim I owe them $10.59 in finance charges credited to the account after I had a zero balance and closed the account, because interest accrues daily and I had a revolving credit balance before I paid it off (Of course I did - I transferred balances!!!). Now after several calls to customer service I am pissed - they will not waive the fee. Now that I have closed the account, they feel no need to be nice to me, and are immediately rude and tell me they will not waive the fee. I know its not a lot of $$. It is so the principal of the matter though. They know they have me between a rock an a hard place, because I have to pay, or they will report it on my credit report. If I pay, they win. If I dont, I lose....I read on this site they have done this to a lot of other customers.

I also had a credit card with a 3.99 percent interest for the life of the loan as long as I did not make any late payments. I have made all payments on time (plus extra each month) even though I had to keep a sharp eye out since they kept changing my due date. It came earlier and earlier every few months. However, I kept up with it and paid my bill on time. Last month I received my statement with a $10 monthly service fee and the payment has more than doubled. When I called, the service rep told me due to the difficult financial environment Chase was facing, I would have to pay this. She assured me they had notified me and I requested a copy. When it came, it looked exactly like one of the Privacy Notices we receive regularly. Upon studying this, the fee is in effect for $10 monthly even if I chose not to use this account. Or she told me I could avoid the $10 monthly fee and reset my interest to 7.99%. My husband has the same type of credit card with a low interest rate, but his has not been changed. I guess they don't want my business. I am in the process of paying this off and canceling the card.

This request was sent on 2/11/09 so I called yesterday and they said it could not be located. My wife and I have two accounts with Chase Bank credit cards and both were money transfers around February 2008. Both have outstanding balances of about $15,800 at a 3.99% rate for the length of the loan. The monthly payment was 2% of the loan and paid by bank draft so there was never a late payment.
In January 2009 the monthly payment on each account was $336. In February the payment went up to $827 plus a $10 service charge. I contacted Chase at 800-945-2000 and was advised that I could continue the 2% payment without the $10 charge if I authorized an increase in the finance charge to 7.99%. I was told that I was sent a letter in November advising me of this change. I do not recall the letter so they sent me another copy of the letter. I can not afford a $1673 payment when I have budgeted $672. I was advised the new rate was effective back to January 1 and the increased payment has been taken out of my account. I understand the new rate will remain in effect until 1/1/2011 and then adjusted to the then standard APR. I am 74 and live on a fixed income and have great credit. Being forced into a 7.99% interest now and hard telling how much in 2011 has the appearance of a legal scam. This is just not right.

Had trouble with the account immediately, there were charges that weren't supposed to be there (should have been my first clue) Called the credit company (didn't know it was Chase at the time) and thru various channels worked out the problems. The woman who was finally able to help warned about making sure the final payment was in on or before due date or all interest would be due - we made note on our calender.
Last month my husband noticed the balance had jumped significantly and he had beed making $225 payments instead of the min. $94. Looking back in his records he found no record of receipt of a bill in Dec. and payment was made late - rolled into Jan. I guess. The next statement apparently reflected all interest on the entire amount borrowed including payments already made. The statement did not explain what happened or itemize the interest, it simply reflected a higher balance. We had to call to find out what had happened. I've heard of this happening, but never had a problem before. Considering all payments were at least double the min. due and on time except in Dec. I called the 800 number on back of statement to see if we could work something out. Hit a brick wall with concrete reinforcement. No room for any variences no matter what. All was quite civil and I tried to work the chain of command. Absolute deafness. Would not give me a phone # or e-mail address for anyone who had any authority in this area. I was given the address I listed above and told to write a letter to Deborah Walden in the Executive Office. Not expecting much but a form letter back.

I want to take my time to explain how WAMU and Chase have been dealing under the table for the past few months. I have an excellent account with WaMu and have been happy with them and apparantly they have been very happy with me too. They have been SO happy that I have been receiving two to three 0% to 3% offers for the usual 6 months to a year promotional term before it goes to regular rates. What they have done is suckered me and probably tens of thousands of others into using these low interest credit card check offers which I used to get some furniture and high end audio equipment. Wow, these offers still kept coming in! Man,I must really be a great customer! Then the dear Mike letter comes in. Chase sends me a letter and tells me they bought out WaMu and none of their rates or promotional offers will be accepted and I can opt out or pay their rates, which I'm not sure what they are going to be. According to the posts here I should expect 24 to 30%. These two companies have been in cahoots together suckering in as many credit card purchases on the WaMu accounts with the low interest teaser checks knowing they were being bought out so Chase could charge what ever they wanted when the sale was consumated between them. I would bet WaMu also gets a commission on all of the low interest purchases the consumers made on these low interest credit card checks. How about the feds looking into this scam? The rich and the politicians run the country and the hard working citizens are stepped on, cheated, and over taxed. This is not what our country was based on. It's time to stand up for our rights as citizens somehow. The feds just let them get by with it!

As of January of 2009, Chase started charging 5% of my balance with a $10.00 service charge.? I immediately (name of representative, date, and time may be provided upon request) called Chase up and a representative informed me that I could get my 2% repayment amount back if I agreed to pay Chase at an adjustable 7.99% APR. I did not did not agree to this and did not allow him to make any changes. Furthermore, I informed their representative that I was charged a $10.00 service charge (of which I have never been charged before) and he informed me that it was a service charge hat Chase was charging in order for my APR to stay where it was in the past. I asked him why Chase had NEVER notified me of these changes and he replied by stating that I was sent a letter? of the new changes to Chases cardholder agreement in September or November of 2008. I immediately informed him that I was NEVER mailed this new? cardholder agreement. I finally informed their representative that I felt as if I had been deceived by his employer (i.e., Chase). I had been making progress, but when Chase took over, my finance charges (no additional purchases in the past few months) went from $82 per month to $218! I called to find out why this change occurred and was told that a notice in change of terms was sent out in November 08 that I could opt-out of. However, Chase sent this notice out in the monthly statement, not separately in an envelope labeled as Chase. Therefore, I did not aniticipate any vital information, such as APR changes, would be included my monthly statement. Due to the fact that I obtain all of my account information via online I was completely unaware of this opt-out notice. I did receive a notice in Januaray 09 about a change in subsequent terms; I reviewed, and responded to this notice only because it was separate and came in an envelope labeled CHASE.
Ultimately, I feel that the notice about APR terms was intentionally placed in envelopes labeled under WAMU MONTHLY STATEMENT in order to fall under the guise of being merely statements, not vital opt-out information concerning future hikes in interest rates. This information regarding an opt-out should have been placed in a separate letter from monthly statements, and sent under the name CHASE because 1.) WAMU was not making the change in interest rates, CHASE was/is 2.)since presumably many other customers obtain account information entirely online.

THis time I made a mistake and paid $175 instead of $178, and they would not change thier minds of the $39 late fee, because I messed up $3. I did not even know I had paid incorrectly till I called about the late fee., must have missed typed...because who would not pay $3 so they can get a $39 late fee.

USA Today reported that the company is charging a $10 a month fee to a small percentage of customers, or upping minimum monthly payments from two percent of the total balance to five percent. It appears to apply to those who transferred credit card balances to Chase on the premise that they would have a fixed rate until the balance is paid off.
The story quoted a Chase spokeswoman as noting that less than one-half of one percent of Chase customers are affected by the fees and typically applies to those who have made little progress in paying down their debt.

I have always made my payments on time. I have a high credit rating and pay my other bills on time as well. I called them about it and the response was that they would only take away the $10.00 fee and lower my monthly minimum payment back to where it was if I agreed to go with a higher interest rate. I received a call to get the credit card protection for one month free. I tried it, but called within the 30days to cancel, but ignorant me, did check my statements (because I was just mailing a certain amount). Once I notice this, Chase convienently couldnt find the tape that I cancelled but could find the tape where I agreed. I cant put myself on ANY kind of payment schedule because the due dates keep changing and I keep getting $40 late fees. Rip Off! The straw that has really turned my blood is that they increase my payment by $3 and charged me a $80 dollars in late fees because of the $3 shortage. My pay cycle at work was changed so my husband adjusted the billing frequency by approx 10 days for the credit card and paid the amount of $317 on that day - still during the same month. When he received the next invoice (he takes care of paying our bills) he noticed the rate jumped to 29% with a new minimum payment expectation of $910. In contacting Chase and speaking to a kind representative Jeanine, although no one could at that time take my call in the Rate are, she requested I call based as seeing our history on the account, we are obviously good customers. In contacting them back and waiting on hold, I spoke to Michael who said there were no promotions currently going on and that there was nothing he could do. I asked if there was anyone else to talk to on this matter because I could not believe there was nothing that could be done. He said no that is why you are talking with me. So, I further expressed - not yelling - that it was highly disappointing in today's economy that Chase was unwilling to work with the consumer. He said again it was all he could do and so I proceeded in closing down the credit card. This lack of customer service in the state this country is in today is pitiful and needs to be recognized and stopped.

I just figured it out. They know that if you think you paid off your entire last bill, if they add the interest a month later, you may not look at your bill and pay it. Because you think you have paid off the entire statement and you have a zero balance. Then they can add a $30 late fee and jack up your interest rates again. Scum.

I understand that class action suits have already been filed and I just want to add my complaint to make sure that Chase Bank is not allowed to get away with their deceptive practices. I have a Chase Bank credit card and accepted a check with a promotional interest rate of 4.99% for the life of the loan, to pay off a car loan. I have been making regular payments of $300.00 per month or more in order to pay off this loan. I have never been late. I do not see how it could possibly be legal to arbitrarily tack an additional $10 finance charge onto my account because they don't know how to manage their funds and to raise my minimum payment from 2 to 5%. This wasn't a problem for me because I was already making substantial monthly payments in an effort to pay off my balance as quickly as possible but this would obviously have a horrendously detrimental effect on customers who had budget constraints. How can they penalize me for being responsible? Obviously they don't know the meaning of the word. What is to stop them from charging us $50 or $100 more a month in, as they describe it, service charge-finance charges,or raising the minimum payment to 10% in an effort to bully their customers into accepting higher interest rates because they can no longer afford to pay the minimum? Smells like grand theft to me. Excuse me,I'm running out of money so I'm going to take yours. That's armed robbery. They are taking $120 of my money for no apparent reason and there is nothing I can do about it? The lady from customer service mumbled something about the current market situation. Yeah, my retirement is tanking also, but that doesn't give me the right to steal from other people. Someone has to stop the banks from making up the rules as they go. I have no interest in paying for Chase's stupidity. They miscalculated how long it was going to take their customers to pay off these promotional loans? Tough. You offered me 4.99% for the life of the loan. There was no fine print that said, but at some point if we get tired of waiting for you to pay it off we're going to start adding fees and raising minimums. SOMEONE HAS TO STOP CHASE!! When I complained and pleaded my case. they sent a nice polite response saying my business is important to them, and they've attached a copy of the terms that say they've doubled my APR. That's it.

On December 10th my 70 year old mother had to go in for knee surgery. She is the type of woman who always has paid her bills early and always has paid more than the minimum amount required. She has excellent credit. On December 9th she went into Chase bank in Rochester NY to pay her credit card bill early (before she had received her statement for her January). She told the teller that she wanted to pay her credit card bill early because she was having surgery and knew she would be out of it for the month of January. She asked the teller if it would be okay to pay her January bill early. The teller at Chase bank told her it would be fine, so my mother gave her one of her old statement with her credit card bank account number so the teller could put her payment in for January so that she did not have to worry about it while she was recovering from her surgery.
At the end of January she received her billing statement with a very high minimum payment due saying that she was past due on her January payment. My mother called Chase bank customer service immediately and explained to the Customer service rep that she made her January payment on December 9th because she had knee surgery on December 10th and she knew she would be out of it so she went to the bank and paid early. The woman Customer Service rep at Chase bank said "Well you didn't call use to tell us you were doing this", my mother explained that she went directly to Chase bank and spoke with the teller and she told her she could pay for her January payment early and that it was fine. The customer service representative said "You are supposed to call us,you can't just go to the bank and pay early without calling us to let us know". I can't imagine why my 70 year old mother would do something so CRAZY as to go to the bank the credit card is issued from, ask an employee who works for the company that the credit card is issued from if it's okay to pay early and actually believe the employee who works for that bank is giving her the correct information when telling her that it is fine. Are you following me so far? She went to the bank to pay her January 2009 payment early (In December of 2008), was told that was fine by a Chase bank employee at the bank and she made the payment thinking she had paid her bill early for January. After going around in circles on the phone with the Customer Service representative, she was kind enough to understand what had happend and told my mother in the future she will need to call the credit card company to let them know if she plans on paying early, my mother agreed that she would and told her she didn't know she had to do that, seeing as the CHASE employee at the bank told her something different. She told my mother she could just send in the minimum payment for her February payment and to ignore the extra amount for it being considered a late payment. My mother said I would like to pay extra as I do every month. The Customer Service rep said that's fine, but not necessary. The Customer Service rep said she would keep the fixed interest rate where is was when she signed up for the card. She even sent my mother a letter stating that she took care of the issue and that is was fully resolved. My mother thought that was the end of this ordeal. Today 2/21/09 the new statement came for the March payment. To my mothers surprise Chase bank wanted several hundred dollars more than the minimum payment, plus she noticed the interested rate when up a substantial amount. My mother called Chase bank to speak to a Customer Service Representative; she was on the phone for over an hour being transferred from one rep to another explaining over and over again what had happend. Finally she was transferred to some man who claimed to be the HEAD SUPERVISOR who explained to her that because her payment wasn't made between such and such date in January (but made early- in December) it was considered not paid. He told her that her early payment counted towards the principle, but not towards the payment because... (even though it was paid early & even though the teller at the bank told her it was okay to pay early at the bank and that she credited to her January payment) Your gonna loves this... it wasn't paid between such and such a date in January, so it doesn't count! Let me just explain this... because she paid early and not on the due date it was considered late and she is now being penalized because she went to the bank and paid early and because Chase employees are not educated enough to know that the information they give out at the bank is incorrect. Lets put aside the fact that she has excellent credit, has never made a late payment and always pays more than the minimum amount. Lets put aside that the teller at the bank told her it was okay to pay at the Chase bank and that it was okay to pay early and... the customer service rep she spoke to on the phone the previous time she called sent a letter and told her she fixed the situation and it was all taken care of, this man said all of that is not true. The man who she spoke to tonight after being on hold told her that according to the "fine print" on the contract she signed when signing up for the card it states that the bank has the right to charge her a higher interest rate and increase her minimum payment because she did not pay the extra fee for the late fee the previous month and she didn't pay between such and such date in January. Wait a minute... I thought the Female Customer Service rep from the previous time she called Chase told her to disregard the bill and that she didn't have to pay the extra amount. I heard my mother tell the rep "I would like to pay extra, because I always do" and the rep told her that was fine and that she would adjust the account and she even sent her a letter. Now if you're really confused about this situation, how do you think my 70 year old mother is feeling? I am furious! I watched her face turn red as her blood pressure increased as she spent an hour on the phone being passed on from one rep to the next because no one at Chase bank seems to know what the hell is going on. Except for the man who thinks he is a GOD who calls himself the "HEAD SUPERVISOR". According to him it doesn't matter what anyone at CHASE bank told her... "It's in the fine print". I got on the phone with the BIG supervisor who was as cold and uncaring as they come! He didn't care about what anyone at the bank had told my mother, he refused to give me the name or phone number of the previous woman rep who said she took care of this situation and kept repeating how it was in the fine print if you miss a payment (which she did not do, she paid it early), your interest rate will increase and he cannot change it back to what it was. I said to him "you've got to be kidding me, you're telling me that my mother is being penalized because she made an early payment at one of your banks!" He said that's correct, it's in the fine print. I asked him to transfer me to someone above him, he said he was the head supervisor and there was no one else above him (We'll see about that). I told him I would report them to the Attorney Generals Office, he said it's in the fine print. I told him that he is one of the most insensitive human beings I had ever spoken to; he didn't care he was cocky and thought he was a God with all this power. He didn't try to help out a customer with an outstanding record with Chase bank, a person who tried to do the right thing and pay her bill early BEFORE IT'S DUE DATE because she was having surgery. This guy is a real winner! I will take this as far as I have to and tell the media and anyone who cares to listen that CHASE BANK HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS - EVEN THE ONES WHO PAY THEIR BILLS... EARLY.

They sent me a small paper in the mail that could of easily been lost with the other junk mail stating that my interest rate will be raised to 9.75% on new purchases and the current balance if I didn't act within a few short weeks. After spending nearly an hour on the phone to India I was instructed that the only way to keep the interest rate that is spelled out in my contract is to cancel my account which I had to do. otherwise the interest rate on the 22K would double my current rate. So, I no longer will be able to use my card BUT my interest may stay the same based on the prime rate plus approx. 1.4%. I now don't have anything good to say about J.P. I filed a previous formal complaint on this website regarding Chase and no notification to cardholders regarding not being able to make payments at Circuit City stores. I emailed their customer service my following complaint: I'd like to file a formal complaint regarding paying my monthly chase credit card. Prior to paying circuit city filing bankruptcy, I used to forms of payment for my monthly bill: either in person at Circuit City or I would mail my payment in. I found out yesterday that I can no longer make my payment at Circuit City, without any notice from Chase and my due date on my bill is tomorrow, 2/19. I never pay my bill through electronic forms online or through my checking account. That is my choice and I have been told by representatives through your company over the phone that this is the only option available at this time. I want to know why I can't get an extension on my due date when Chase did not provide me any notice at all that I could no longer make my payment at Circuit City? Isn't customer service important to Chase? Based on my experiences with calling the 800 number on the back of my card, it was made clear to me that there are no other options if I want to get my payment in on time before the due date, I have to use the only service you are offering, which is to provide my checking information. I was also told that there will be a fee if I want to do it over the phone with a representative or if I do it after 4pm on the due date. I asked for an extension on my due date so I could mail my payment in still, my preferred mehtod of payment and was told there would be no extension on my due date and there would be late fee of 35$ if my payment does not get there before the due date. What kind of crappy service is this? Chase is awful and even though I am only one person, I swear I will never go through any credit line that is under the Chase logo. In my short experience with Chase, I seriously regret this experience with your company and affiliates and will do my part to pass on the word to others to avoid Chase at all costs. You have horrible service and it's pretty clear based on the phone conversation with 'Glenda' that there will be no remedies in your horrible service because you already had a meeting about this, per Glenda's words.
I'd like to file a formal complaint and I want this email answered and addressed and I want to know what the next step is in filing my formal complaint. This is completely unacceptable and wrong to try and make the consumer pay a late charge or to pay other fees because Chase failed to provide any notice that I would no longer be able to make my payment at Circuit City. This is your problem, not mine. The least you could do is offer a one time extension on my due date so I could at least mail my payment in. Prior to Circuit City stores going out of business, I would make my monthly payment on my Circuit City balance at the Circuit City store. For my February 2009 payment, I went to Circuit City to make my payment 3 days before the due date and found out from Circuit City that they are no longer accepting credit card payments there. I called the 800 number on the back of my chase circuit city card and found out this is true. I spoke with a lady named 'Glenda' who told me that the only option available is to go to Chase.com and use the automatic check withdrawal feature there. When I expressed my concern about this form of payment and shared that I always pay my bills on time through mailing in a check, I was told I could certainly mail in my check also but there would be a late charge if it was not received before the due date. I told 'Glenda' that there would be no way my check would be received before the due date because that would mean it would need to arrive there within 3 days and that was impossible unless I wanted to pay extra fees to get it mailed faster. She told me that she explained the only option to me and it was my choice if I didn't want to make my payment using that option. I told 'Glenda' that this was not fair to me as the consumer that Chase did not give me any notice at all and now I am supposed to either pay a late fee if I mail in my check as a form of payment or use their automatic withdrawal system on their website to transfer the payment from my checking account to them by the due date. I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor and was told there wasn't anyone available but that I could call back in the morning. I asked for another phone number to file a complaint. 'Glenda' said she could not find one but she said she could give me mailing address. I asked for 'Glenda's' last name and she said Glenda is all you need. I'm making a note on your account regarding this conversation and that you refused to use the automatic check paying system. After this phone conversation, I went to Chase.com and looked for a link to contact them to find out about filing a formal complaint about no notification regarding paying my bill at Circuit City and having to eat up the costs of late fees if I don't use the only method supplied on their website to get my payment to them by the due date. I found the link and typed an email similar to these words here inquiring about how to file a formal complaint. All I want is to make my payment with a check by mail without any late fees or changes in my credit card agreement or grace period. As the consumer, I did nothing wrong and take very good of my credit and always pay in time and pay off balances. I can't help but feel that because of the way things are going with the economay and businesses are going bankrupt, Chase is doing all it can to get their money and extra money with fees and late fees. After reading other's experiences here about Chase and their credit cards, I feel even more reluctant to give Chase access to my checking account. I'm certainly not comfortable with this and will have to pay a late fee as a result and also may lose all of my deferred interest if this payment winds up late. Chase is terrible and I truley hope they go out of business. They deserve it as far as I'm concerned because they clearly do not care about consumers who do care about maintaining good credit.

I signed up for a Chase Visa credit card on the basis of a promotional offer I received in November 2008, which included 0% APR on all purchases through October 2009. The promotion also included a single hard copy check, which included certain fees if used, but the use of which was described as falling under the 0% APR promotional rate.
I confirmed this in a long conversation with a Chase representative on Jan 5, 2009. I wanted to be absolutely certain that if I paid off another credit card balance using the Chase check, that the pay-off would come within the 0% APR promotion. He assured me that it would, and I used the check accordingly. (The use of the check also incurred a flat fee, but I was advised of that, and was willing to accept it as a trade-off for obtaining the 0% APR on the balance.) Lo and behold, the first bill I received from Chase included interest. I called Chase, and was eventually transferred to a Supervisor who advised me the check I used did NOT come within the scope of the 0% APR promotion. I told him this was contrary to what I had been previously told, and that I never would have used the check under those terms. The Supervisor advised me that he and his Manager would listen to a tape recording of the Jan 5 conversation with the Chase representative, and that Chase would honor the check at the 0% APR if the representative had in fact told me that. He said he and his Manager would listen to the recording that same evening. This conversation was on Tuesday, Feb 10. I was told that the Manager, Jay, would call me back either Friday of that week, or Monday, Feb 16, at the latest. Well, I received no call from Chase as of Monday, and called them on Tuesday, Feb 17. At that time I was advised they had no record or notation reflecting the conversation I had had with the Supervisor the previous week -- but they would, now, be willing to put in a request for the earlier, Jan 5 conversation to be reviewed. This review process would of course take another week or so. The problem with this is that all this time interest was accruing on the balance. The more delay, the more I would have to pay. Chase acted negligently and unprofessionally in (i) failing to follow-up and call me back as promised following the Feb 17 phone call; (ii) failing to include any notes in my record of that conversation; (iii) failing to honor the terms of their promotional offer. (Actually, I suspect that they did listen to the Jan 5 conversation, learned that it was in my favor, and decided to conceal this fact because of the consequences -- good for me, bad for them.) I canceled the card, and paid off the balance so no further interest would accrue. To pay off the balance that day, rather than sending a check (the time to process which would have resulted in substantial additional interest (about $100) to be paid off), cost me an additional $14.95 fee. I believe Chase's actions in this matter were fraudulent and dishonest. I am particularly upset that no record was made of the Feb 17 conversation I had with the Supervisor. It is possible that the original representative I spoke to on Jan 5 was misinformed about the terms of the promotional offer, but for a Supervisor to fail to notate an important conversation in my record, or to follow-up with a callback to me as promised, is inexcusable -- at best negligent, at worst, deliberate fraud on Chase's part.

Not to mention the extremely rude people that they employ in their customer service department. Here I am stuck dealing with Chase again since they acquired WaMu. What a bummer. I have two cards with them, fixed low life of the loan rates that have NEVER been past due, as a matter of fact, they are auto-pay accounts. Between the two of them, they bumped my payments $1000 a month. When I called to complain, the customer service rep tried to tell me they were helping me pay off the balances quicker. This is an absolute outrage, especially given the fact they just received a ton of bailout money to help consumers. The $10 service charge just rubs salt in the wound. I have been paying my Chase credit cards on-line for several months. On February 12, 2009, I got a statement in the mail with a $39 late fee and $2.38 interest charged. However, my records indicated that I scheduled an on-line payment for the full amount ($74.99)from my checking January 20, 2009. I conclude that the web page malfunctioned or internet connection was broken or timed-out and I was unaware. I called Chase and got the same line I've read in several other complaints: they refuse to remove a late fee for any reason. My credit is spotless and I never miss a payment, always pay in full, etc. -- doesn't matter.
The way to think about it is this. Every time you use on-line billpay, there's a chance that something will go wrong. (If you mail it in, your check can get lost in the mail for that matter.) With Chase, the penalties are huge and you have no recourse when something goes wrong. I consider holding a Chase card a liability because I can't tell when they are going to do this, or how often. They seem to be thinking very short-term in grabbing for a few bucks and worrying about losing business later. People with good credit can go elsewhere, but they will keep those poor people who can't pay their balance off in full or obtain other cards.

Then they all cut my available credit in half, giving the impression that I had maxed out my cards. This, in turn, led to them increasing the interest rates and doubling the minimum payments due.

************************************** Our records indicate that a Change in Terms notice was sent to you in November 2008, which advised of the addition of an Account Service Fee and a change to the required minimum payment for your account, effective as of your January 2009 billing statement. Please note that the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) on your account is not changing and you may continue to take advantage of the promotional APR currently in effect on your account. An alternative is available, but it does mean giving up the current APR on your promotional rate balance(s) with no expiration date. With this alternate offer your promotional balance(s) would be changed to a 7.99% Fixed APR. This new rate will remain in effect until the billing statement that includes January 1, 2011. After this date, the APR for any remaining portion of the balance will be the standard purchase APR associated with this account, which is a Variable APR of 27.24%. If your standard APR is a variable APR, the rate mentioned above is the sum of the margin and the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Prime Rate. Variable APRs may vary with changes in the WSJ Prime Rate. Please refer to your Cardmember Agreement for more APR information and other account terms. This alternate offer will suppress the assessment of the monthly Account Service Charge, and we?ll credit your account for the last monthly Account Service Charge assessed. Your minimum payment calculation will also return to the greater of the following: * $10.00 * 2% of the New Balance or * The sum of 1% of the New Balance, billed interest, and any billed late fees. Please note that any amounts that are past due or over your credit limit may be added to this calculation. I was informing Chase that if there was another charge, that I want it disputed and be notified because I did not authorized it. Below is the original complaint I sent.
I have called the company twice and my cancellation confirmation with them is: R1208. They have charged me also for Jan 3 2009 for 11.99. I have also called Chase twice to inform that I am disputing this charge. However, Chase has said BOTH times that they can not and will not dispute Third-party automatic deductions even thought I, as the consumer, has been informing them that I did not authorize these charges. Speaking with a dispute service member, he informed me, after I requested to be notified about further charges, that Chase would not do that for such a small charge. Chase should have some ethic business practice to PROTECT their consumers rather than to perpetuate the practice of allowing alleged automatic deductions from third-party companies. It should not hide behind the loopholes of law but rather use the law to protect PEOPLE from fraud. I would like a copy of the law that say that Chase can not dispute third-party charges and please, do not include the words, not responsible for third-party charges as a way to defend the normal business practices. When this dispute is resolve, I will no longer be a customer of Chase or any of its affiliations. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she had one speak with me by the name of Warria Johnson who also rfused to remove the fee and revert my apr to it's original amt. I explained that I was a very good & loyal customer never paying late & that if I didn't get some kind of help I would file a complaint, & close my acct. When I called to complain they just tried to blackmail me into accepting another offer to bring my monthly payments back down to the original minimum monthly payments. After less than one year if the balance was not paid off my interest would jump to 18.99%. This is without a doubt the most criminal use of credit card small print I have ever seen.

I am one of the approx. 400,000 customers who are arbitrarily being charged a $10 service charge and an increased minimum payment: 2 percent to 5 percent.
I opened the account in 1997, no late payments, no overlimit. My balance is a 'balance transfer' at 3.99 percent and the service fee is accruing at 9.24 percent. I spoke with two different representatives: 'nothing can be done.' I was never offered a higher rate to lower the minimum and defer the $10 fee. As a result of 'going paperless' which the company highly encourages, I did not receive prior notice of the change of terms. Thus, I was too late to 'opt' out, which would have meant, closing the account and continuing at the same payment schedule. If I had been able to 'opt' out, my excellent credit rating could have been negatively affected by closing an account and reducing my available credit. The customer service rep's did not have current knowledge of change of terms when I called in January 2009 -- did not know what I was talking about.

My husband accidentally used our Chase Visa card for a cash advance ($120) on 12/12/08. In my next statement, there was a transaction fee of $10 and a finance charge of $1.79. I paid off the statement fully and more -I looked online to see what we actually owed at the time of payment and paid that amount. My new statement shows a finance charge of $1. I called to find out what it was for. The supervisor told me that the payment I sent it gets applied to purchases on the statement, purchases since the statement was made and then towards cash advances. Thank god I sent in more otherwise the cash advance never would have gotten paid! She then said that the $1.79 finance charge never got paid. So, they charged me a finance charge on the finance charge which is the $1 that's showing up on my statement now. She said that finance charges get paid first (before purchases); so, this should be the last month that I see this finance charge.

I always pay in full, so these charges really annoy me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one having to pay these. They did remove the last months charges, after I spoke with a supervisor, but he said that finance charges are still accruing so there will be more on next months statement. I believe they should have to send an explicit email/message when they make such changes. Is there any plan to try and make them do that? It really appears like a shady way to make more money off the consumer, and they have no clear explanation why they did it. Is there any other action I can take? best regards

We are simply shocked that a bank in line to receive a $25 billion bailout by taxpayers contacted our family about raising our two credit cards. We had never missed a payment, and my wife and I both have very good credit ratings, thus we are minimal risk to CHASE. CHASE, on the other hand, is a risk to us as they wrote in the brochure they provided us that the reason they were raising our rate was to ensure their company's profitability. Wasn't the bailout supposed to be about financial institutions freeing up credit? The banks taking the bailout should have been directed to CUT rates to consumers to free up money to circulate in our economy. Instead, we consumers are paying for their bailout AND will be using more of their disposable income to pay higher interest rates.

In January I noticed a $10.00 fee, and the minimum payment tripled so I called to ask what was going on. I spoke with a man who told me that a fee would be assessed on my account unless I chose a new rate of 7.99%. I said no thank you and paid off the balance. This month I received a state showing a balance of $13.80. Ten dollars was the fee and 3.80 was the interest. So I again called and spoke to Sharon first and then Mary the supervisor. They both informed me that I would be charged a $10.00 fee just to have the account open. The only way to end the fee would be to close the account. So I closed the account. Mr. Jamie Dimon, CEO JP Morgan Chase & Co. 270 Park Avenue New York, NY 10017 February 9, 2009 Dear Mr. Dimon: Last Thursday, I received a letter in the mail regarding my Chase MasterCard with the fixed APR of 9.99%. Apparently, my fixed APR card is all-of-a-sudden changing to a variable-APR card with an APR of 16.99%, in order to maintain profitability? on my account. Yes, you read that correctly; 16.99! I couldn't believe it either! That's a 7% increase!!! And you know what's worse? Guess how much warning I was given. Well let's see... I got the letter on February 5th, and it takes effect on March 1st. So less than a month! This is ridiculous! While the economy is on a downward spiral, you are taking advantage of people who have been faithful customers and may or may not be relying on their Chase credit cards to stay afloat. I have had this card for about 3 years, and I have never been late on a payment or given any other reason to raise my interest rate. I have been nothing but satisfied with it and your company until now. I wish I had the money right now to pay off my card completely, but I can't. I guess I'll have to deal with this until I can get a $0 balance, and I will be putting everything on my Capital One card until then. After I reach a $0 balance, it will be my goal to never pay another penny of interest on this card. Therefore, you will not be maintaining profitability? on my account. And with an interest rate as absurdly high as this one, I hope and pray that the vast majority of your appreciated customers will be able to do the same. In the mean time, Mr. Dimon, I can't help but wonder... Are you taking advantage of all of your customers like this, or only the ones like me who have been faithful customers long enough to HAVE a fixed-APR card? It is very dishonest to give somebody a card with a $20,000 limit and tell them that their APR is fixed, only to make a drastic change like this with less than a month of notice. And if I don't hear from you, I'll assume you're in the middle of a very important conference in a luxury resort in Hawaii, celebrating with all of your execs the brilliant decision that was made, while your formerly-faithful customers find better ways to buy the things they need. How can they post a service fee for a service I did and do not agree to...the only way to get rid of it is to agree to a new contract...Again for how long will that contract/agreementlast? Last month, Chase sent out a letter to its card members regarding an increase in credit card payment.
I phoned Chase and was told that my Visa card was changed from 2% to 5% on the minimum monthly payment. This amount is based on balance due. The increase has raised my minimum monthly payment on February statement to $426 from $171. I was shocked! I explained to Chase that I could not afford this high increase. No reason was given except that banks are having a hard time. They gave me the option of keeping the 2% minimum payment but I would have to accept an increase from the original 2.99% or 3.99% fixed rate UNTIL BALANCED PAID to the 7.99% card rate. I am being bullied into accepting the higher percentage rate, since I cannot afford the higher monthly payment. When I used one of their checks to put a large balance on at the low fixed rate offered, it was my understanding that it was UNTIL BALANCE PAID. I am very upset with this! I have not used that visa card since applying the large sum several years ago. I have faithfully paid each month on that amount, bringing monthly payments down from over $300 to $170. The implication seems to be that Chase is not making enough money on this card as it currently is.

When I called a representative at Chase, I was told that it was due to the bad economy. When I told her I should have been warned, she told me that something was going out in the mail to me. It has been 3 weeks and I still have not received anything. She told me that I could return to my previous 2% of the balance if I accepted a new 7.99% interest instead of my current 4.99%. There has to be a law against this! I was promised 4.99% for the life of the balance transfer as long as my payments were made on time and not go over my limit. I have never been late and never gone over the limit. I don't understand how they can legally do this. With just one month of the $10.00 service charge added, they had my interest rate last month at over 7.00%. With one more month's $10.00 service charge, the rate will probably average over 8%. They are counting on everyone seeing that you can save by accepting the new 7.99%. They say that they cannot force you to accept the new higher rate, but they are forcing you!

During that time, I paid all my bills, but paid little attention to the actual statements themselves until I was feeling better again. During that time I noticed I was still being billed by Discover card. I called them and they said they had never received the payment from Chase. I called Chase and the supervisor, whose name I don't have anymore, assured me that it was just a technical error, and I should see the payment made in another statement or two. Sometimes these things take time, he said. So I waited nervously for the next statement to arrive. Nothing. I called again, but they again assured me that there must be some mistake. They would look into it and get back to me. They never got back to me. This went on for some time and then I was told that there had been a mistake, but they were terribly sorry...on the credit card agreement, it clearly states that you only have 90 days to submit a complaint. Since I had only talked with people, not written them, they were not obligated to refund me my money. The charge for over $7000.00 remained on my credit card. I was stuck having to pay not only them, but of course, Discover card too. I consulted an attorney, and although he said what they did was totally unethical, they were in their legal right to do what they were doing to me. You can't imagine the hardship this has caused me. They also said that if I agreed to have my APR raised to 7.99, they would lower my minimum payment back down to its original level. There is another catch; if you accept the change to 7.99, then you have to pay off your entire balance by january 2011 or the remaining balance gets the default 29.99 APR.

Last month Chase arbitrarily imposed a $10.00 per month service charge because I have not charged anything to the card since the opening promotional balance and now Chase is loosing money on this account. How is that possible? Their cost of funds is less than 1/2 of what they charge me. Everything is completed electronically so costs are minimal. Their own statement reports a 10.11APR. They justify this by putting a $10.00 service charge on the Purchases line and than claim it's not part of the original agreement. This is a flimsy and underhanded way to charge more. I have kept my end of the bargin and have been an excellent paying customer. Apparently that's not good enough. By unilaterally imposing this fee, they want me to pay off the balance. After getting taxpayer bailout money and having the lowest cost of money in decades, they can't make ends meet? Maybe they need to replace the geniuses running this company who think they can solve their problems by increasing fees.
