On Tuesday I had called about my bill that it climbed from $45-$$78. I call to see if something could be done because crazy being long time customer I should get the good deals. The representative was going OK in the beginning after I declined an offer of getting Internet and free unlimited cell phone. He told me that I was taking my money and flushing it down the toilet, which was very disrespectful. Like forcing me. You guys have to teach your representatives more people skills. Horrible

I have been a customer for over a decade but they kept jacking up the prices. Last time I called to see about promotions, they didn't lift a finger to keep me. Seriously, $85 for 200 mbps? Then when I went to cancel they informed me they no longer prorate. Convenient after just being alerted of the price increase. Xfinity offered way better rates with much better speeds. I will never deal with them again.

We decided to switch our internet service to a different provider, so I called RCN to cancel our service on June 4th. I was informed, "Unfortunately, we have to charge you until May 21st." As a result, I will have to pay for over half a month of service that I will not be receiving. I have never encountered another company that operates this way.

Mon May 19 I was unable to receive my RCN email to my computer. I went to the RCN website and logged into my webmail. There was a disconnect between my home email and the RCN web server. All my other accounts Gmail, Outlook, were fine. I use MailWasher Pro so I can see my server settings. Everything was ok. I did get a message unable to reach server. I called customer service and it was clear the person knew very little about how email works. After being told, "Well if you can log in to the webmail server on the RCN site there is not a problem." I tried to explain they are 2 separate things.
Frustrated I asked if I could talk to a supervisor. She refused. I tried calling again to see if a new person might understand the problem. I felt the first person was in over her head and her refusal to honor my request for a supervisor reflected badly. I asked if there was a way to check if any problems were reported again, it was a hopefully simple network problem, I've been an RCN customer for over 20 years and never had such a bad experience. Problem not addressed, service was was terrible, ... Agent did not have a clue. I hung up and had just wasted 1/2 an hour with no results.

Hello, PJ! Thank you for reaching out to Astound. I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble with your webmail. The information you received from the agent you spoke with is correct; if you are able to send/receive normally when logged into your webmail when logged in on our website, there is no issue on our end. It sounds like you have your webmail set up in a third-party email program, which is not something we'd be able to provide technical support for. Thank you again for reaching out! -J

I've been with RCN for 2 years and the bill changes every single month. So I call and get told I'm getting $30 off my bill with a promotion. Couple days go by and it's still the same. So I call again and get told it will be applied. Same thing never changed. So I call again and get told that it won't go down and I'm not eligible for the promotion now. So I say that's ridiculous and that it should be honored because I was quoted by 2 separate reps. So I was told my call would be escalated and a supervisor would get in touch. Well it's been 4 days and my bill was due on the 15th. I call again today and they said by end of day I would get a call. Again no phone call. I'm tempted to call because this a Internet bill that fluctuates more then my electric bill. I used to be all about it. But after this terrible customer service I'm completely done.

RCN advertises rates of $20 a month, but then tack on $23 of made-up fees to make the rate higher than their competition. The fact that these fees are monthly is hidden until after you sign up, and pay their sign-up fee (which is just remote activation if you have your own equipment). Every interaction incurs other fees. Call center representatives are unwilling and/or unable to resolve issues with billing. They're engaged in awful, deceptive practices. I wouldn't even recommend them to Donald Trump.

This was a horrible experience today. TV been down almost two weeks. Two of my boxes went out and did a trouble shoot several times over the past two weeks and been on the phone today for almost two hours going from room to room unplugging and plugging phone rather than save a customer and send a professional out. They rather keep doing this for over an hour and forty five minutes on my only day off work. I’m highly pissed and if I wasn’t in a HOA situation I would go to Verizon. I’m gonna write a review every chance I get.

I would give no stars if possible. RCN was my TV & internet provider for the past 20 years. Once TV became too expensive with them we started stream TV and had only had internet through RCN. Then my bill got up $40 to $124, a raise of about 35%, for a service that was not so great anyway. When I got the bill I was only 3 or 4 days into the new billing cycle. When I called to cancel services I was told that "we don't pro-rate bills so you have to pay in full". So I had to pay $124 for just a few days of service. RCN you just lost your business to Verizon!!

Several years ago, when I lived in Queens, I tried to have RCN as my cable/internet provider. The first red flag was when the customer service rep insisted that my address was not what it was. After proving to him that it was, he then said I needed verbal or written approval from my landlord in order to obtain service. After having done so, I was then informed by the customer service rep that I would not be able to obtain RCN service for several months since the company had been contracted to wire a large apartment complex near the bridge.
He then said, and I quote, "You are a little customer, and at RCN, the big customer come before the little ones." This little customer then decided that RCN was not the right company. Several months later, I received a promotional flyer in the mail and decided to give them another chance. Once again I was told to get permission from my landlord, and once again I did.
The customer service rep then told me that another requirement in order to obtain RCN service was for myself to go around to my neighbors' homes and advocate for them to switch their cable/internet providers to RCN. When I asked if this was the normal procedure for one to obtain service, she told me that, "I had to do a lot of leg work." It is one thing not to take someone seriously, but it is another thing entirely when you are treated in a manner that makes it painfully obvious. I now have Roku and have not been asked to do any advocacy.

I am a former RCN customer. Their cable that runs from the side of my house to the alley was damaged when a garbage truck snagged it. It is now hanging loose on the side of my house but still connected at the alley. I called several weeks ago and was told this would be marked Urgent and someone would be out soon. Since then I have not been able to reach a human at RCN. When I call I get two options. Existing customer or New customer. Former customers don’t count apparently. I want to get the damage caused by the cable, i.e. holes drilled, etc repaired and have the house painted. But I can’t because RCN won’t remove their equipment.

I understand. The work order to remove the line is set to take place today. If it's still there in the morning, please let me know and I'll get this matter escalated for you. -Jackie

Another year another spike in RCN internet bill. I've got a statement (May 2024) saying that there will be increase in my bill. I've contacted to RCN on June 4th, the representative offered a discount for 12 months and I took it. Then I got a bill for June for a different amount, so I've contacted to customer service on July 23rd to ask why. The representative told me that the promotional offer expired on June 29th, that's why I have to pay more than what I've agreed without any prior notice. Then the new representative offered me another deal for 12 months again.
My questions: I've offered that promotional price for 12 months how come that representative can offer me a promotion that will expire less than a month? How come RCN didn't give me prior notice? How come I supposed to believe the offer that I got for 12 months will not expire tomorrow? I've checked the area for the other internet providers, no luck. Apparently, being a monopoly gives a company some privileges.... I guess we have to take their service whether we're happy or not.

I was enrolled in the ACP program as of January the 9th 2024. I have a voicemail from a representative named Vickie, confirming my enrollment and that my $30 discount would be applied to my January bill. However, when the January bill came due I still had not received the $30 discount on my bill and had called in three or four times trying to find out why. I was finally told I had to un-enroll in the auto-pay program; to pay the bill directly because I was getting additional discounts because of the auto-pay. At that point I was also told that the $30 discount wouldn't hit my bill until February the 7th. So on the 31st I had to pay my full bill plus an additional $1 service fee because I was paying directly without the auto pay service. Wouldn’t you know? The $30 discount hit my account the same day.
Wait, what’s this? When I received my February invoice it indicated I’m being charged exactly $71.00 for phone equipment on 1/9/2024!!! I’ve never had phone service! I called in and after much back and forth; it is allegedly a modem that was also phone support capable that I received in 2020! It was changed out due to an upgrade in 2022. So after a ridiculous conversation with a manager by the name of Lisa who’s primary response was “uh-huh” to everything I said, I hung up the phone after a few expletives.
I did some checking for voicemails, emails and of my bills. I found nothing whatsoever in any communication indicating that there is an expectation that any equipment will be left in my custody for me to return per a visit from a technician. Had there been, there would have been a time limit on getting the equipment returned otherwise I’m sure they would have financially penalized and with interest!!! And so common sense says that it is the burden of the technician to ensure that all equipment is gathered/retrieved and removed from the customer's possession; being the technician's burden to return. As a matter of fact, I also told “uh-huh” this; that a technician returned to my house having forgotten such equipment once and his demeanor was such that it indicated to me that he would have either be in trouble or financially responsible for it had he forgotten it altogether.
Number two - they (Astound/RCN) do not supply technician names, phone numbers, or email addresses at any part of the process. It’s virtually impossible for me to contact the technician as this information isn’t provided. Number three - this charge was NOT on my January invoice. Number four - how convenient that they (Astound/RCN) decide they are missing equipment years after the fact and on the exact date that I’m enrolled in the ACP Program. Number five - I’m wondering what shenanigans they would have pulled had I opted for the free plan? They’re making $70 off me, well it’s actually supposed to be $40 which I haven’t seen yet. Number six - I’m apparently not the only customer they do this kind of thing to. The BBB is loaded with complaints too! Number seven - this company should have a class-action lawsuit filed against them for such practices!

Last year I ordered new RCN internet service before my moving into new house. It was a no show. I called to find out why they did not come. They said there is no record of my order. So I had to order again and this time they did not waive installation of $90. One year later, my husband received RCN offer of $200 cash for internet+ mobile. We gave one more chance to RCN since the salesperson was okay. However, It was a total hellish and impossible experience to straighten this up regarding missing E-sim information. Both of us spent entire day calling RCN. Each time the agent could not find the account, argued not sending sim card we already received, failed to provide e sim QR code, after asking different thing each time. It looks like each person in RCN provides their own opinion or set of questions or directions- very creative but extremely frustrating.
They don't acknowledge that they are listening but stay silent instead. They don't know what they are saying. They don't comprehend questions. They lose track of conversation and get confused and argumentative. They are incorrigible and stubborn and likes to talk things they don't understand. Keima (employee # **) of Pennsylvania kept put me on hold several times to get help each time longer than 10 minutes but came up with nonsense. Suma was so arrogant. None of them was helpful but full of air. I don't know how much aggravation I had to deal before we get our mobile service activation. It is hellish with no exaggeration. I never swear in my life but I think that's what this RCN deserve.

The titles used are very different indeed: (a) Basic TV, Preferred TV, Digital Cable TV and Ultra Feature Package (paper statement) vs. Digital Basic TV, Signature Cable TV and (b) Unlimited Nation Wide Calling and Digital Phone (the landline) vs. Unlimited Long Distance, Unlimited Local Calling and Unlimited Regional. Why use such different language on paper from your website????

I went along with WOW Chicago, low end provider but they actually got their pipelines straightened out and we were getting good premium internet / and ultimate cable package with high quality HD, Same as Comcast, then they were sold to Rcn/Astound and new equipment came which is usually good. The new box is as big as an external drive-very, small and only web enabled. It doesn’t use the coax. The HD picture seems interpolated or auto generated to fit all, not great. My 29 dollar antenna to Sears tower for free is 10x better quality, how the H does this happen? Additionally all the channels are now subscription and for 30 countries not in the USA. RCN is a joke. Over the past ten years, our internet has always been patchy. Can't make it through a single day without it cutting out at least once. We have told them over and over that we believe there is a deeper issue, but they refuse to do any meaningful troubleshooting. Instead, they send "tech" after "tech" to slap on the band-aid solution of replacing the router, which is NOT the issue and has NOT fixed the problem. More often than not, these techs don't speak sufficient English to communicate the problem to them, and there is clearly no communication between the customer "service" teams who listen to the problems you describe, and the techs sent to "fix" them. Clearly, a larger more complicated issue is behind our relentless connectivity issues than the box. Yet all they are willing to do is repeatedly change it. All they care to do is take your money, while providing you internet on par with that of late 90's Bulgaria.

I had RCN for years and they were the best. Then a year or 1 or 2 years ago Astound acquired RCN and the nightmare began. Since August 2022 I have been calling Astound up telling them that my internet was unstable and dropping; starting in January 2023, it started to get worse and I called dozens of times per week. They sent out "technicians" and the technicians said it was the "outside telephone poles", but said that was a separate division and couldn't be contacted, but they would put in a work order. I repeated this same scenario several times since January 2023. Starting in April, my internet would drop dozens of times per day, I work from home and started only using my telephone hotspot to conduct Zoom, etc. meetings.
I called Astound several times per week, telling them they have failed to provide internet and failed to even send a tech to the "outside telephone poles" to fix it. I told them, "Refund my last 2 months (February and March), since I have failed to have consistent internet." After a month of calling almost daily (early May 2023), I told them to just disconnect me and refund my last 3 months. I cancelled my credit card (so they can't keep charging me) and disputed my charges, due to failure to provide the services I paid for. Astound just sent me a bill for for 3X my month charge and is threatening to send my account to collections if I don't pay.
I called and told them the story and they told me they understood, but didn't have the power to remove the charges. They promised a "supervisor would call" and resolve the charges after speaking with me. No supervisor ever called me, and got another letter threatening to send to collections. You can't bill me for internet, if you fail to provide internet, simple as that. Having a weak signal for 35% of the day doesn't count. I called maybe 90+ times over the last 6 months.
I called in 2 weeks ago and they were going to refund 2 months, then never did. I called again last and they promised a "supervisor" would call back, no one ever called back. I called again this week and waited for 40 minutes while they were saying, "No one can help you." Now they are trying to send a collection agency after me. Run from this company. They are thieves. They will lie to you and refuse to provide any service. They will lie to you in order to get you off the phone. Then they will try to ruin your credit by sending a collections agency after you.

THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM, MONEY HUNGRY, DISHONEST, STAFFS ARE IRRESPONSIBLE!! I installed RCN TV service when I rent apartment in 2017. In the first year, it was provided as a complimentary service from apartment building (actually is part of utility fee I paid aside from rent). A guy came to install the equipment, the first equipment is not working properly then he brought another giant one looks like 80's model, fine. Then After 1 year period, I really don't watch it. Also no signal in my unit, also I don't know the contract has been transferred to me until they sent me $423.25 + bill.
I called customer service. They said I have contract with them. I never PERSONALLY sign any agreement or contract with RCN (2 years later I was told by RCN that contract was signed by apartment as bulk service and transfer to me without my consent). I paid $423.25 + and ask where to return those equipments, the customer service said they have drop box and give me the address. I went to drop box and return ALL RCN EQUIPMENTS with my service address label in it, there are RCN worker sitting inside the window, I asked if I can get a receipt, she said "no, just drop them there".
Last week, collection company call me. Said there a unpaid charge about $360ish from RCN for equipment fee about 4+years ago?? I HAVE RETURNED ALL EQUIPMENTS and never get anyone from RCN contact me regarding this instead of have collection company calling me? Their customer service is joke and untrustworthy, really regret and feel shame to use RCN to bring my trouble to my life! STAY AWAY AND BE CAREFUL!

RCN is dishonest- or at the very least really bad at accurate record keeping. Originally, November 2021 installation was a mess. I had several people come out over the course of three weeks with little progress actually getting internet installed. One guy was at my apartment for two hours, didn't have the appropriate equipment, said he would be back the next day (obviously my issue for believing this) and he never showed up. Now, fast forward a year and a half: I moved, cancelled service and returned my modem (I have a receipt!).
I received an email stating I have not returned the modem. I chatted with an agent who said I returned one but there is another one that hasn't been returned. This is false and inaccurate information. I also inquired, after further investigation of my bill, about why the charge were almost doubled for the last six month. The agent pointed to the "imaginary" second modem as a reason for the charges. This is after inquiring over the phone months early about the charges and being given a different explanation. RNC has unethical or at the least disorganized business with horrible customer services. DO NOT give them your money, they will take more without explanation or permission.

The apartment I previously lived at required us to purchase internet service through RCN. I wish they never did because this company is beyond a joke and so money hungry it isn’t even funny. It’s almost sad. I had subleased my apartment to another tenant after 6 months of residence and I informed RCN of the new tenant and to remove my name off all future bills. I don’t know what happened or why they chose to not, but literally a year later I wake up to a collections of $300 on my credit report. I call the place, and they claim they received this information from RCN. I couldn’t believe it after a whole year that they would do this.
I contact RCN and they tell me the $300 is for some unpaid charges and unreturned equipment. Excuse me? I DID NOT LIVE THERE ANYMORE AND NOTIFIED YOU OF THIS. Furthermore, instead of contacting me through email or phone number, they chose to send to collections after a year. I received no communication from them. These guys are a complete joke and it is almost scam-like what they do to people. I do not owe $300 to them. Customer service reps have generic answers and provide no help. Money-hungry, sad sad company. Steer very clear. There’s a reason they have a ton of negative reviews. Shame on you! Zero stars if I could.
