What is Select Auto Protect?

Select Auto Protect offers extended car warranty plans that cover repair and replacement expenses after your vehicle’s original manufacturer’s warranty expires. There’s no limit to the number of claims you can make, and the company’s agents are available 24/7.

You can take your car to any mechanic with Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. If the facility can’t repair the covered part, Select Auto Protect will pay to replace it, and it will pay the shop directly.

Select Auto Protect coverage and plans

Select Auto Protect covers all makes and models, and the company covers cars of all ages. It only requires that your vehicle is in good working condition when you get a warranty. It also doesn’t ask for any in-person inspections. You’ll simply provide them with your vehicle identification number (VIN) and the current odometer reading.

Select Auto Protect has three plans to choose from:

Select Silver

This is the company’s most basic plan. It provides coverage for:

  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Cooling system
  • Brake system
  • Electrical system
  • Drive axle
  • Trip interruption
  • Gas refill
  • Roadside assistance
  • Rental car

Select Gold

The Select Gold plan covers everything under Select Silver plus lockouts and the vehicle’s steering system.

Select Platinum

The Select Platinum plan includes everything in Select Gold and adds coverage for:

  • Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
  • Air conditioning system
  • Heating system
  • Fuel system
  • Turbocharger/supercharger
  • Hi-tech equipment
  • Front and back suspension
  • All-wheel or four-wheel drive

Select Auto Protect cost

Select Auto Protect doesn’t list its prices, fees or deductibles on its site. To get a quote, you’ll need to submit a form on its website.

Extended warranty plans typically cost around $1,000 to $3,000, but costs vary depending on your car’s make, age and mileage, your location and the coverage level you select.

FAQ

Does Select Auto Protect have a claims limit?

There aren’t any limits to the number of claims you can make. The company doesn’t specify whether there are any maximum payouts for individual claims or throughout the contract’s term, so be sure to read your contract carefully before signing it.

How are Select Auto Protect claims paid?

Select Auto Protect pays the repair facility directly, and you pay your deductible separately. Select Auto Protect doesn’t require any paperwork or for you to pay the bill first and then be reimbursed at a later time.

Can you transfer a Select Auto Protect policy?

Select Auto Protect lets you transfer your policy to a new owner without any fees. All you have to do is contact the company by phone and give the new owner’s name.

Can you cancel a Select Auto Protect policy?

You can cancel a Select Auto Protect policy at any time. If you cancel within 30 days, you can get a full refund.

Still have questions?

Is a Select Auto Protect plan worth it?

A Select Auto Protect plan can be worth it if you’re looking for extended auto warranty coverage. It’s an established company that’s been in business for over 30 years, and it has several plan options. Plus, you can use any ASE-certified technician. You also won’t have to worry about any upfront payments because the company pays the shop’s bill directly. However, Select Auto Protect doesn’t display any pricing or fee information online, which makes it more difficult to compare its plans to other companies.

This company is complete garbage! They are scammers and crooks! I had a major engine component fail and needed an engine replacement. They had the shop do a complete teardown and didn't even send an adjustor while denying my claim. The reason they gave was a direct contradiction to what the dealership said. They said that my engine had oil starvation when the dealership gave them pictures showing how good the engine was other than the pistons and cylinder walls. The piston skirt failed, causing the issue, yet they will not cover it. I will be contacting the Texas consumer protection agency and my lawyer.

They will do everything in their powers to deny a claim. They denied one so I paid for it. When my transmission went out they wanted to see proof that I fixed the radiator coolant leak in order to proceed with my transmission claim. It’s been 2 weeks and several phone calls and still no answer with my issue. The car is at the shop this whole time. I have called 5 times and they get my information and reply that an agent will call you shortly. It’s been 48 hours and I’m beginning to question what shortly means. Avoid this company if you can.

My claim on a covered part was not paid because they claim wear and tear but they refused to even look at evidence or send an adjuster. They don't pay, don't call you back and you are unable to get the money back.

Thinking about finding others they have done wrong and start a class action lawsuit. If they do find a way to not cover it, I will be getting in contact with a lawyer.

I have the top-of-the-line platinum plan and put in a claim for the first time within four years of coverage. Even though they talk codes and replacement parts were covered. Select Auto Protect circumvented paying the claim because they want me the customer to pay for an engine tear out which was in the neighborhood of $12,000-$15,000. A fraction of the cost to have the authorized repair done. Spent three consecutive weeks begging, pleading for a supervisor to call me back and never got that call back to discuss the validity of this company. It appears that they have a set up to take customers money, but don’t keep their end of the contract when it comes to paying out costly claims.

Our goal is consumers is to buy these policies to take care of large repair charges so we don’t get caught with paying these cost out-of-pocket. Which I subsequently had to do so because of the what appears to be fraudulently operated warranty company. If I could have scored a zero out of five, I would have pressed zero but there was no option for it. Customer service is the worst you could imagine. There’s no company that’s so busy that you can’t take the time to call a customer back to explain why you made a decision to circumvent payment of a claim clearly covered items according to your contract! Do your research something I did not do and I would not recommend this company to anybody under any circumstance whatsoever

I am writing to alert everyone about the practices of Select Auto Protect Company, which has caused significant frustration for my husband and me. After purchasing two separate policies for our vehicles, I deeply regret those decisions due to the service we've received. I enrolled in a "platinum" 6-year warranty for $3,500 on October 1, 2024. My husband purchased a "platinum" 5-year warranty for $2,500 on November 22, 2021. During the enrollment process, a representative named Michelle assured me that our coverage was comprehensive, which initially provided me with peace of mind.

On July 3, 2025, I took my 2016 Range Rover to the Land Rover Annapolis dealership for a diesel exhaust fluid issue. The dealership determined that both fuel level sensors needed replacement because they were malfunctioning and inaccurately registering the diesel. I contacted Select Auto Protect for coverage, only to be told that I needed to resign the warranty agreement, which I did. Unfortunately, they later denied my claim, stating that those parts were not covered under the warranty.

The situation became even more frustrating when my husband sought assistance for his 2015 Maserati Ghibli. On June 10, 2026, he took the Maserati to the Criswell Maserati dealership due to an issue with the air conditioning system, specifically warm air blowing from the driver's side vents. After a thorough inspection, the dealership diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning actuator/motor that controls airflow—which should have been covered by his policy. My husband contacted Select Auto Protect, but they informed him that he needed to sign a new copy of his protection plan before they could assist him. He complied and signed the documents they emailed.

After several days of waiting for acknowledgment, he reached out again, only to be told he needed to submit his past maintenance records. He promptly emailed his meticulous service records from 2019 to 2026 to the email addresses provided. However, days later, they claimed they hadn’t received them and directed him to resend them to a different email address. Despite resending the documents to both claims@selectautoprotect.com and info@selectautoprotect.com, Select Auto Protect continued to refuse to discuss the air conditioning issue.

They would not authorize the dealership to proceed with the necessary repairs, even after repeated contact from the service advisor, Mr. Erick **, who confirmed the problem with the air conditioning unit. Mr. ** also reached out to Select Auto Protect to advise them of the dealership’s diagnosis, but they ignored his findings.

Throughout this process, my husband was forced to communicate with the dealership. He informed Mr. ** that a Select Auto Protect representative stated they would send an inspector to check the vehicle, which would take up to four days. However, three weeks passed without any communication from Select Auto Protect. I had to initiate all calls to gather information.

When an inspector finally arrived at the dealership, I was left in the dark about the inspection results. Four days later, my claim was denied with no communication explaining the reasons. When I pressed for clarification, a representative mentioned something about leaking lubrication—an assertion that contradicted the dealership’s findings.

After being without my car for nearly two weeks, the inspector did conduct the inspection but failed to reach out to me with the results. To my dismay, four days after the inspection, I discovered that my claim had been denied. I had received no prior notification from Select Auto Protect through phone, email, or regular mail. When I asked a representative for a written explanation for the denial, she hesitated and reiterated the lubrication issue as the reason. To date, I have not received anything in writing from Select Auto Protect.

Despite the clear coverage outlined in our policy, Select Auto Protect denied my claim. After numerous calls and weeks of waiting, my husband had to authorize the dealership to proceed with the necessary repairs, resulting in out-of-pocket expenses totaling $1,596.37. He picked up his vehicle on June 30, 2026, after enduring this nearly four-week-long ordeal. Mr. Giron reiterated upon our pickup that there were no lubrication issues with the air conditioning unit, which only added to our frustration.

On July 1, 2025, I escalated the matter by contacting a manager at Select Auto Protect, John **. He provided yet another reason for the denial, stating they do not cover pipes and that a vent door was clogged—completely disregarding the dealership's findings. He suggested I contact their headquarters for further assistance.

As a result of this ordeal, my husband and I are now out $1,596.37 for repairs, along with the $2,500 we spent on coverage that has been refused. This experience has left us feeling that Select Auto Protect prioritizes denial over responsibility. We feel utterly disappointed and taken advantage of, as they seem to be looking for any loophole to deny claims rather than providing the service we paid for. In fact, Select Auto Protect appears to be operating dishonestly. This entire experience has been extremely frustrating, and it seems as though Select Auto Protect is functioning without any accountability. We demand a resolution to this matter.

My 2017 Jeep wrangler JKU has been in the shop for 11 days now. After the fault was identified, fuel injector, Select Auto was notified. They told the dealer service department they were sending an inspector to review diagnostics that took 6 days for the inspector to show up. Two days after inspector notified repair shop that it was covered, they have yet to send the money to cover it. Since it’s Saturday, I probably won’t get my Jeep back until Monday, at the earliest, if that soon. If you’re thinking of getting an extending warranty, stay away from this company. This by the way was my first claim, had the policy for over a year. Absolutely terrible customer service.

Bought a Premium policy for my Land Rover Discovery. Sales rep told me they dealt primarily with luxury vehicles so their policies were comprehensive policies that covered everything on high-end vehicles. After a short trip, my vehicle was leaking coolant and needed the front brakes replaced. Both should have been covered under a comprehensive warranty, but the claim was denied in its entirety. Select Auto Protect are glorified telemarketers, nothing more. They certainly aren’t going to cover any costly repairs on your vehicle. So my advice is to avoid Select Auto Protect at all costs after I paid for their expensive policy and then had to pay for the repairs on my vehicle out-of-pocket.

Bad news is after many tries over the last twelve months they still haven’t paid the small claim or the judgement of a mere $2,500. That’s a pretty small amount in the whole car repair business. They won’t even pay the towing because the claim was denied. We ended up taking it to the state licensing department in the state of Texas and they actually are helping!! I suggest any denied claim be reported to your state licensing department! These types of companies need to be put out of business. They have an F rating with the BBB.

Bought policy for my Porsche Macan with very low mileage but expiring factory warranty. When transmission failed, Select Auto Protect found every way possible to NOT pay my claim, including providing reasons that every mechanic I sought out verified were absolutely impossible to fulfill. After over 6 weeks of dealing with the problem without a car or rental, I finally paid out of pocket to get the repair completed. Now in litigation (initially used arbitration mandated by policy) however, Select has completely ignored all the litigation solicitations. I hope to recover some of the THOUSANDS of dollars I paid and, if I can't, hopefully save others from this sleazy company.

Mechanic contacted Select Auto Protect. 5 DAYS later they sent out an adjuster and the adjuster told the mechanic he would receive their answer the next morning. 2 days later I called them again and was told my claim was denied because it was a maintenance issue. They have came with estimate and tried to submit to the claims. No response and when dealer got the response, it was a runaround they gave them with adjustor's schedule. My car was with the dealer for two weeks and still no response or resolution. Finally adjustor came out. No response for another week. Finally, dealer told me that claims was denied, even though it was covered under their warranty.

I called Select Auto and they gave me an answer they are still reviewing it when they told the dealer it was denied. I was furious that it sat at the dealer for three weeks, adjustor came out and still reviewing it? I paid out of pocket to get the car repaired and out. I called Select Auto back and canceled both of my policies. It has been three weeks and still no refund. Last time I called and asked to speak to manager, they put me on hold and minute later, they hung up.

Based on my experience and still having issues, I will ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMEND this warranty company. Terrible claims process, LONG wait for the claims approval, and even though the parts are covered, they denied the claim when I followed all their requirements (cooling period, regular scheduled maintenance, etc).

Every claim that was submitted took weeks to resolve in comparison to other extended warranty companies that were able to inspect the vehicle and reimburse payment same daycare for similar repairs. Very slow at reimbursing for towing and rental vehicle expenses and they only cover up to 7 days of rental vehicle, even though the hold up is on their end on vehicle repairs.

The final straw on my patience with this company was the fact that they did not cover the full amount of damage on my transmission failure. My torque converter failed and caused damage to the rest of the transmission. They reimbursed me for only one part and 4 hours of labor, leaving me with $2700 to pay for the remaining transmission replacement. I submitted this and my towing claim on 12/8/26 and select auto didn’t finalize the claim until 12/23. I still have not received reimbursement for towing and rental expenses. Every time I have called to speak to a professional I have been pushed around on making an appointment without anyone reaching out to me. They use the term pro-rated to refer to your refund if you cancel, giving the impression that your refund will be pro-rated for the entire period of the agreement. But then they add verbiage that they can interpret so that they can apply a monthly amount to deduct from your original contract amount in a way that causes your refund to disappear before the coverage period is even half over. And, oh yes, they apply a cancellation fee plus an administrative fee that together reduce your refund by another $250.00. And they didn't cover the one claim that I did make. I don't leave reviews often but I am absolutely appalled at the service we received. This is a long in depth one so buckle up. We dropped my husband's car at his mechanic in need of a new transmission. His mechanic tried to call the number given for 2 weeks with no answer. My husband called and they said, "Oh you never signed the contract".... We had been paying them for months and no one mentioned it when we had already called them a few times for payments. So he signed and they were like, "Ok your mechanic can call now." He tried again for days. No answer. We had to call again. We asked if they could call our mechanic. It had been sitting in their shop for 2 weeks with the new transmission sitting in the shop waiting to be put in. They did not call and our mechanic still didn't get through. We called again. This time they put the claim in for us.

After 3 and a half weeks my mechanic finally got through. But here's the kicker our mechanic put the transmission in the car because he couldn't just let it sit there for almost a month. Well now the warranty service said they will not cover it because they didn't get diagnostics. Our mechanic gave them all the diagnostic information. They still won't cover it. We also asked to speak to a supervisor. We called and they said they'd put in the request. 24 hours later. Still no phone call. We called back the authorization for us speaking to the supervisor had not yet been pushed through. They added a note to push it. Almost 7 hours later still no phone call. We called back and finally got through. They stated there's nothing they will do to cover the work since our mechanic didn't wait the weeks it took to get in contact with anyone. Our mechanic also said their authorization employee who took his phone call was nothing but nasty with him.

Total scam, denied 2 claims. One claim was questionable, 2nd claim denied was internal bearing failure for super charger the exact description in warranty agreement! First they asked for service history understandable, they sent out inspector but still denied for no reason. After trying to reach them always the same thing someone will call me! They never call and it's hard to reach them. Customer service is awful, no one's never available. In the process of requesting refund. Stay away from this company, scam!

I am a senior etc. If this is settled without issue asap, I will write the best review and retract all negatives.

Made a claim, they asked for maintenance records. I supplied them within 24 hours of their request. After 6 days and at least a dozen times of me calling and requesting an update on my claim, I still haven't received a call back. In 3 particular times that I called, I was told that a manager would call me back. Never happened. Last time I talked to someone, she was beyond rude. Over talked me, cut me off, raised her voice and eventually hung up on me. She told me that my truck was neglected. Even though all maintenance was performed early.

Truck was brought in for what turns out to be a fuel pump issue. Dealership seen that my axle boot was torn. Previous inspections said that they were worn and need to be replaced soon. Because I didn't replace them right then. That's neglect? I have the best warranty that they offer. Pump is covered. However, they are denying my claim. This company has been absolutely the worst that I have ever dealt with. STAY AWAY!

I took my 2021 Subaru to the dealer, for a brake problem with my brakes. A brake light came on my dash. I couldn't move my car! They called Select Auto, they said that unit wasn't covered. So I paid 498.00, out of pocket. I will give them one more repair request, If they don't pay, I'm will drop them.

Do not do business with these crooks. They have every reason in the book to deny your claims. After they denied a claim for a steering part called the pitman arm, they denied another claim for a fuel pump, the reason being I hadn’t fixed the pitman arm yet. What’s the point of that? The systems are not related and the fuel pump is absolutely covered according to them. Wasted $2750 on their best platinum plan. Whatta joke!

I took the easy way out and didn’t do a lot of research. That’s how I ended up at Select. They made me feel very comfortable throughout the process until there was time for a claim. That’s when I realized what a mistake I made. A simple part of the heating system, the blower, broke and I was given no explanation as to why it was not covered. The customer service rep was not by any means fluent in English and difficult to understand. They just kept saying so there’s nothing I can do over and over and would not at least help guide me through the situation. I asked for a supervisor to call me back three times to no avail. I just wanted to get an understanding of the part and why it wouldn’t be covered when I was promised a “bumper-to-bumper” warranty and their “Platinum” plan.

I suggest you do business with Select. They are total bait and switch with the bumper to bumper claim and will not stand by you once something goes wrong or even take the time to explain something. A very bad experience overall. To summarize I understand that not everything is covered and something is just out of scope according to the policy, The problem is that that they did not take the the time to stand by me or help me understand it. They just shrugged it off and did not return my call. Select is not the type of company I would do business with. You have choices so I suggest you make another choice.

My AC Core needed replacement- Advised by Select that it was a big and expensive job, so they did not cover it! [Nissan Murano's dash needed to be removed in order to fix part.] I stated that should be a definite part that should be covered!!?? Was told that any part leading up to AC is covered---"Big deal!" That was second call to them for repair on a part- Can you guess, they didn't cover that part on first call either! [Think it was a radiator cover = approx. $125.00]
