This was, without a doubt, the worst car-buying experience I've ever had with used car sales department. The customer service completely disappeared after I purchased a used 2025 Honda Pilot TrailSport. Once they have your money, you're essentially left to figure everything out on your own. I financed through my own credit union, Navy Federal Credit Union, and was initially told they didn't accept it because it "wasn't a legitimate loan." That statement was both inaccurate and unprofessional. On top of that, the dealership increased the price from what was advertised online once I arrived and attempted to add on as much as possible. Thankfully, my husband was with me and advocated for us, making sure the sales staff stopped trying to finagle the deal. Even then, the paperwork took over 6 hours to complete. The problems didn't end there.

I live in Maryland, so I was issued New Jersey temporary tags when I purchased the vehicle on May 27th. Those tags expired on June 25th, and getting any information about my permanent registration has been nearly impossible. I repeatedly called the dealership, left multiple voicemails, and received no meaningful responses. Eventually, I received a text saying my plates weren't ready and that they'd keep me updated.

On June 26th, I spoke with Daniel, who told me he would contact the Motor Vehicle Department and call me back. He never did. On June 26th, I left another voicemail and emailed my salesperson, Jermaine Barnswell, expressing my concerns about the dealership's lack of professionalism and informing them that I was documenting everything. About an hour later, Jermaine called and said his manager, Michael Craige, would contact me.

Michael told me that the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration was backed up by two weeks and promised to overnight a new 30-day temporary tag on June 27th (Saturday) with delivery expected by June 29th (Monday). Today is Thursday, July 2nd, and I still have not received the temporary tag they promised. Since then, I've continued calling, leaving voicemails for both Customer Service and the Motor Vehicle Department, and I've sent additional emails. No one has returned my calls or responded to my emails.

The lack of communication, accountability, and follow-through has been unacceptable. If there was a delay with Maryland's processing, that would be understandable. What is not understandable is making promises, failing to keep them, and then completely ignoring a customer who is now left with expired temporary tags.

I've purchased a Honda before through Princeton Honda, and the difference in customer service is night and day. I would highly recommend Princeton Honda based on my previous experience.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Planet Honda. My experience was filled with misleading information, poor communication, broken promises, and a complete lack of customer care after the sale. I would strongly encourage anyone considering purchasing a vehicle here to proceed with extreme caution and make sure you have someone with you who can advocate on your behalf throughout the process.

Planet Honda wasted an unbelievable amount of my time and then acted offended when I finally got fed up. I contacted them about a specific 2026 CR-V and repeatedly asked for one simple thing: the itemized out-the-door breakdown in writing. That request should have taken one competent person a few minutes to handle. Instead, Planet Honda turned it into nearly two months of delays, handoffs, calls, vague answers, quote links, and empty promises that someone would get back to me.

Andrea called and texted but did not provide a direct written breakdown. Jasmine apologized and said she forwarded my information and would remind someone to respond. Frankie was supposed to answer things “up front” and never followed through. Eventually Ed stepped in, not to fix the process, but to criticize my tone after the dealership had already mishandled this every step of the way. When they finally did send anything useful, it was still not the actual itemized buyer’s order I had been asking for. After all that time, they eventually texted a flat $41,000 out-the-door number, but still refused to provide the actual worksheet or buyer’s order showing the VIN and line-by-line breakdown before requiring me to come in. In other words: after nearly two months, they still would not fully put the deal on paper the way I had requested from the start.

The most frustrating part is that my wife already has a lease through this dealership, so this should have been one of the easiest situations for them to handle professionally. Instead, it became a mess of repeated follow-ups, no accountability, and management trying to shift the focus away from the dealership’s own failures. The issue was never that I asked for something unreasonable. The issue was that Planet Honda repeatedly failed to handle a basic written pricing request in a clear, professional, and accountable way. If you are shopping here, get everything in writing early, and do not confuse polite wording with actual professionalism.

We wanted Honda finance. Gave him my insurance card. He then does his thing, not going with Honda finance. I m not ever gonna purchase here again. He ruined my excitement when I found out cal was who he went with without discussing it with us. Wow. What a shocker. Never purchasing a vehicle here ever.

I heard about such good reviews about Planet Honda online and after being let down by various other dealerships I decided to give it a try. Nonetheless, I couldn’t be more happy with my decision. I was assisted by Dazir and he is genuinely one of the best sales associates I've ever met. He kept my interests and budget in mind and was very patient and kind. After we bought a Honda Trail Sport 2023 he proceeded to call us the next day asking how the car was driving. He goes above and beyond with his job and deserves all the gratitude and appreciation. The Planet Honda lot is absolutely filled with all types of cars and you can definitely find something you like. SERVICE: Brought my 2022 Honda Ridgeline in for a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Recall on the idle stop start gas saving standard feature. After 20 days in service I picked it up in frustration and it cost me $373 and nothing changed. They replaced the battery after I had a new one replaced 3 weeks prior to drop off indicating it was faulty. When I returned the battery to where purchased they tested it and it was perfect and I have a print out so indicating. Unfortunately, they do not accept non faulty batteries back. Planet also adjusted the valves, etc. While in service they broke the tail light (someone ran into my truck) and replaced it, they broke a tab on a plastic shroud covering the battery and replaced it only because I found the damage.

During these 20 days I brought Honda Corporate into the situation. With their help & guidance to the tech they still could not fix the problem. NHTSA has extended the warranty for this issue to 10 years and I was not the first to request a fix. COMMUNICATIONS: Follow up calls to service were difficult at best. The service writers were nice but nothing fixed the problem. Over the 20 days in service I requested a loner car each time non were available to me. I brought the Assistant Service Manager into the situation after many phone request throughout the 20 days and after never hearing back until I picked up the vehicle. At that time he only honored my 15% coupon and no further cost adjustments. NEXT STEP: Follow up with NHTSA (I retired from NHTSA after 32 years service), Find another Honda Dealer who can fix their own vehicle make.

DO NOT go here! The employees at this Planet Honda location are rude and unprofessional—I was genuinely shocked. I already knew what to expect because, at the end of the day, salespeople are incentivized by commission. To give some backstory, I leased my 2023 Honda HR-V from this location in March ’23. The experience was about what I expected, but the salesman I worked with at the time was very friendly, which made the process bearable. (P.S. He no longer works there, so that tells you everything you need to know.)

Fast forward to last week, when I decided to buy out my lease. I knew going in that I was going to have a hard time because dealerships don’t like when you buy out a lease. I came prepared: I did my research and got pre-approved for an auto loan from a bank to buy out the car. Prior to going in, I called the leasing company and asked for the total buyout amount, and they told me it was $21k. Keep that in mind. When we got to the dealership, we were thrown from salesman to salesman, and everyone was rude the minute we stated that we weren’t interested in buying or leasing a new car. I understand that you work off commission, but it’s common decency to treat all customers with basic respect.

After we met the main salesman, Jermaine (or something like that), he took us to his office and immediately started gaslighting us into thinking that buying out the lease wasn’t an option. He talked down to me and my sister and laughed at us when we asked questions—extremely condescending. He came back with almost $3k in extra fees that he couldn’t explain. He also lied about whether those fees were required.

We asked for an itemized breakdown of all the fees, and it literally stated that half of them were optional. When we pointed that out, he visibly got upset and pretended to go talk to his manager. At this point, I was enraged by the unprofessionalism. He came back and claimed that the only reason the fees were marked “optional” was because the dealership had the option to sell us the car with those fees—which makes no sense.

I also want to point out that we were kept waiting for hours throughout this entire process. We were there for a total of 8 hours, by the way. Eventually, we asked to speak with the manager. When the manager came in, he confirmed that the fees were optional, and we basically had to haggle to get some of them removed. I still ended up paying half of those fees, which was honestly ridiculous.

Then, when it was time to pay, the original salesman tried to charge me the original price, thinking I wouldn’t notice. I have never been so shocked by the lack of integrity from a company in my life. The moment they realized we weren’t falling for their games, they treated us like trash. They tried to overwhelm us with numbers and paperwork to intimidate us. I’m literally an accountant.

At one point, he gave me a packet to sign, and at least two of the documents included additional optional fees that he assumed I would sign without reading. Once again, he became visibly upset when I called him out. These people have no morals and think the general public is stupid. DO NOT waste your time here. Go somewhere else if you can, and don’t make the same mistake I did.

I visited Planet Honda to look at a used CR-V but was persuaded into leasing a new one after being told it would be cheaper. The final contract showed much higher costs than what was discussed, including a total payment obligation far above the vehicle’s MSRP. Important terms were not clearly explained before signing, and I later had to file complaints with multiple consumer protection agencies to get help. I strongly recommend reviewing every document carefully and ensuring all terms are fully explained before moving forward.

This has been nothing but a disaster from day one. I never purchased a car here and I never will again. The salesman who came up to me was a nice guy and told me that he was “not just selling a car to you, I want to sell to your friends and relatives.” Good luck with that buddy. The first day I looked at their used cars and found a 2023 Honda Accord in my preferred color and within my budget. I took it for a test drive. Here was problem number one. Where Planet Honda is located there is a ton of traffic. As a result, I had to do my test drive in some little back streets behind the dealership. I could not take it out on the highway and open it up a little. I might have found more problems if I was able to do that. I believe I signed some paperwork but just went home in my own car after that - I had to get the Honda Accord on my insurance etc.

The next day I went back and they were going to take my car as a trade in. I signed some paperwork with the salesman and then had to wait for their finance guy. When I said I had to wait I mean I had to W-A-I-T!! Meanwhile my friendly salesman disappeared. He figured he got his commission so he was gone. I finally see the finance guy and he tries to sell me a bunch of things I don’t need. I signed my paperwork and I was on my way.

I can’t remember if it was the day after the purchase or the following day but I wake up in the morning and my battery is dead! The problem is all of your entry into the car is through the key fob. I looked up online how I can enter my car if the key fob is dead and I find a YouTube video. I get in my car but the car won’t start. I am not a happy camper at this point. I call the salesman and explain the situation and he tells me to drive the car to the dealership. I told him again the car won’t start. He tells me to jump it.

Now, I have the jumper cables and family members who would help me but this friendly salesman has inconvenienced me and I decide to inconvenience him. I ask him how am I supposed to jumpstart it? He says fine, he is going to drive to me and jump the car. I am about 5 or 6 miles away - it’s not really a big deal but screw him he made the sale. So I wait for him and when I say I waited for him, I mean I W-A-I-T-E-D for him. So after an hour and half I call him and get his voicemail and ask him where the hell are you? He calls me back pretty quickly and tells me he is coming and I need to calm down. I just got even madder! Eventually he gets to my house and jumpstarts the car and tells me to drive it to the dealership and they will repair it. So I wait for the repair and like I said before when I say I waited (well you get it by now). They end up putting in what looks like a Honda battery with a decent warranty, so I am happy again.

Fast forward to the Tuesday after Memorial day (about four days later). I try to get into the car and the battery is dead AGAIN!! I manage to get into the car. I also manage to get into the trunk to get my jumper cables. I jump the car and drive to the dealership and try to return the car. Now mind you this is four to six days after I bought it and the battery died twice - the used car manager says they don’t take returns. So I am spending another day at Planet Honda in Union getting my car repaired. Here is the thing that kills me - they are the number Honda dealership in NJ. I would hate to deal with another dealer if this is the number dealer. DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE! That is my opinion.

I noticed that the price we got for the used car was a much higher quote than when we were with the salesman, the interest rate was the quote BEFORE they ran our credit score, which was excellent, and then the old finance guy has the nerve to say, the credit score doesn't matter because of the car the mileage! I spoke directly with the manager who is informed about this program, Delia **, and she lied to me telling me she could mark up the prenegotiated price as much as she wants saying 5k to 8k. I went to the dealership to buy an Odyssey. One of my friends bought there and I went to the same sales person asking for the same price. He gave me the same price on the car and they tried to overcharge for warranty than what my friend paid. I had them pull up the exact price and they tried to tell me all the stories and by that I already signed the paperwork. After all that, Sales person said he would give me free all weather mats if give good rating. I said fine. They stopped completely responding and even became rude when I tried to follow up on that commitment.

I was offered an all weather season mats along with the purchase of my brand new 2020 Ridgeline Black Edition because they said that they couldn’t go any lower on the price. I left without the floor mat because both times I left, it was late and I thought they would honor their deal. Now that everything is signed and done, they refused to give me the floor mat. The mat doesn’t cost much but it’s the principle that counts and they have none.

Stephen was incredibly kind and cooperative throughout the entire process. We would most definitely want to always come back to him after our lease ends. He makes the process easy and not stressful at all. We were happy that Alex was able to switch us to Stephen after a terrible experience with the previous salesperson who was rude and disrespectful, and Stephen was the complete opposite of this and fixed our bitterness and made sure that we would always come back to planet Honda. So thank you so much to Alex and Stephen.

Salesman (Aladdin) was top notch; knowledgeable and informative; he knew (in detail) the differences between higher end models (pilots) and lower end models. Comparable cars from non Honda dealers elsewhere and specifically laid out what features the models we were interested did (and didn’t ) have. He didn’t waste our time. On second visit (test drive)...we reviewed again detail of the models and any important issues.

For a rather inexperienced buyer his input was invaluable. Since we had done comparisons on shopping at several other dealers (10 to 20 cars) I know what price would get me to come back and ink the deal. He understood our body language. Said (after consultation with manager) his bottom line. And that was in live with price/value we were looking for. We shook hands..confirmed our serious interest in closing soon and returned with check within 6 hrs. Couldn’t have asked for a better team than the Planet Honda on Rt 22 in Union NJ.

He was very hostile and argumentative. He called me an ** several times because I told my girlfriend that this is a terrible customer service experience. Very UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, and DISGUSTING. Wasn't aware that this dealership has no lease deals for customers who are not citizens and are on H1B work Visa. Dealership denied me the lease special right after asking whether or not I am citizen or have a green card. They did not even bothered to check my credit score, etc. Dealership mentioned that Honda financing does not finance H1B visa holder customers. The whole experience was frustrating. Dealership did not mention this clause in their ad or website and I ended up wasting hours of commuting just to hear that I cannot lease, even though I had an appointment.

I have never wrote a complaint ever in my life but I feel as though I need to address an issue that occurred yesterday at 5:30pm at planet Honda on route 22. I have been here before and never had an issue. I received a call yesterday telling me that my lease was expiring soon, and I had the option to come in and look at other cars. I had an appointment at 6pm and I arrived at 5:30pm and was greeted by Jorge ** (short, Spanish guy). He began to take care of me and asked me what I was looking for, I explained to him exactly what I wanted, and how much I was willing to pay per month. After explaining to him in detail what I needed and what I was looking for, I was hoping for a quick outcome but it ended up being 2 hours without a valid answer.

I am currently leasing a 2017 Honda Civic and I explained to him that I would like the same car but the newest year. He then started to offer me a Honda Sport which I did not like and didn’t have the same features as the current car that I am driving which was going to cost me more money than I was already paying. I explained to him multiple times that I did not want that car because I didn’t want to spend more money for a car that had less than what I was driving. Every time I would answer his questions he would respond, “Give me a second.” He wouldn’t show back up for minutes I’m talking like 15-20minutes. I did not complain once and I was extremely patient the entire time. Every time he came back, he kept changing my words and accused me of lying and changing my offer (which I NEVER did) and making him look like a fool in front of his boss with a horrible attitude towards me.

He also asked me for the keys of my car to do the appraisal, which took like 45 minutes. After he accused me of lying, I lost it and said that I needed my keys to go home; he said “I though I gave it to you already” which he did not. It took him 15 more minutes to bring it back to me. He handed me the keys and asked to wait to talk to his manager. I waited and the only response I got was a m the manager saying no (no words spoken) which did not mean nothing to me at that point. I was already very disappointed with the service, with a huge headache and just wanting to go home. On top of everything else (which not everything is in here) I went outside to just go, and my car was nowhere to be found, and had to go back again to ask him where my car was. He said “Oh it's in the other parking lot” not even trying to take me to my car or even show me. I had to ask myself how to get there and then he offered to take me.

Overall, it was a horrible experience; Not because it was 2 hours for nothing, but because my offer was very straight forward and he either had to say yes or no to it, which could have taken 10 minutes top. After this experience I can’t wait for my lease to be over and I’m considering leasing another car from a different dealership.
