Kia Soul owners beware. There is a factory defect that will ruin your engine without warning. Check your oil often. Kia will not honor their warranty due to "owner neglect." How convenient?? I was able to produce proof that this car was well maintained yet they still denied me any help. This company is a joke.

This car fits my needs, which are that it is small, so easy to maneuver, park, and handle; roomy enough for me to camp with and sleep inside (I'm short); able to select quality features like panoramic sunroof, navigation with large screen and Android Auto, leather seats, seat warmers AND seat cooling; and ability to haul lumber, landscaping supplies, kayak and bikes. The downside is low gas mileage (23-25 mpg) but I knew that when I purchased it.

My 2012 Kia Soul Base is a great car. It is fun to drive and adjusts for both short and tall drivers. The visibility is great for short drivers. The car is great for anyone with a bad back and is easy to get in and out of. It is a light car so not great in snowy conditions. Snow tires would help.

The Kia Soul Exclaim has all the bells and whistles of a much more expensive car. All the technology is available, gorgeous interior, including an incredible dashboard design. VERY comfortable, both front and back. I've had no breakdowns, just regular maintenance- and it seems very well made. The Exclaim has a panoramic sunroof. I was rear ended at 40 mph by a drunk driver and sustained significant back end damage. However, I barely felt the hit and nothing happened to my dog in the back seat. The only drawback is that it is a little sluggish, but that isn't generally a problem.

Paint quality is not good. Low maintenance car with good gas mileage. Only needs oil change about once a year. Seats are not comfortable for long trips. There is a good amount of carbon noise when driving on the highway.

Our Kia Soul is surprisingly roomy, comfortable and fun to drive. It looks small, but has a huge capacity to carry large things with the back seats down. We were remodeling our house at the time and we were able to carry flooring, several gallons of paint and a shower door. I thought we'd have to rent a truck, but our trusty Kia Soul was able to carry everything.

So let's face it, we all have good and bad experiences. This one is the true nature of the Kia brand. The 2014 Kia Soul was my second brand new Kia. I was up to this point a fan of the vehicles. Great gas mileage and safe. But the last month ended that. The vehicle has 105k, after trying to deal with Kia at 89k because of the catalytic converter failure code, they said the cat was my problem. But a few months later got a recall for the ECU program failure that overheats the cat to burn off emissions causes engine failure and destroys the catalytic converter. So I brought my car back. Guess what, catalytic converter was bad and the car burns 1 quart of oil every 500 miles.
They replaced the cat. Did a firmware update on the ecu. I told them about the oil consumption. They had me bring it back 3 times for a consumption test, which it failed. They did a compression test which it also failed. Then called me to tell me it was not covered. Made a case to Kia consumer affairs, HA. And the joke begins. They said the engine would still need to throw codes for engine damage. But if you flash the ECU it thinks everything is as it should be. Tuning 101 Kia. So they will not fix it.
Talking to Aamco (real mechanic) he stated that if the engine burns too hot for too long trying to clear the catalytic converter it will destroy rings and varnish cylinders. Hmm, sound like he knows what the so called master tech at Kia doesn't. So of course I now have a car that has been dealer serviced for its life and has failed at 100k. I have other vehicles from the big 3 with double the mileage and no problems. So I guess my lesson is dont buy knock off vehicles from a company that only consumes and doesn't care about you. Be warned that these vehicles will fail. Prematurely. You will be stuck with a paperweight. They will refuse to fix anything under warranty, it will be your fault. I am ashamed that I did not see this coming.

My husband and I were changing the wheel bearings on our 2014 KIA Soul. The dealership I took it to, Evans KIA in Georgia. At first they said it was our brakes, then we had them replace front brakes. Ok, I pick up our Soul, thinking it was fixed. They told me at front desk that it was the wheel bearings. Ugh, even I a stay at home wife knows the difference between wheel bearings going out and transaxle going out or brakes. If you can shake your tires up and down and it moves while on lift it is your wheel bearings. If you move just tire and have play going left to right and right to left it is transaxle. When we bought our KIA Soul we had no history for this used vehicle. But Evans KIA should have known which part was deficient, instead they give you a list of what could be wrong. It seems to me KIA dealership should have some kind of rules and regulations not to take advantage of people like that.
On the second half of story, I had paid out $260.00 for new breaks. And got an estimate for wheel bearings only 2 for the front for $900.00. Not to mention we had the same situation before with A/C. Saying it was one thing then it turned out to be $1500.00 for a/c condenser. I'm finding out I am not getting the professional mechanics for premium price. It took my husband and I less than 5 hours to have our wheel bearings out of the car, wheel bearings cost at part store $31.99 each. To me that does not equal $900.00 estimate.
We are at stopping point, KIA brake heating shields in between knuckle and wheel hub assembly, it is not a half moon shape it completely surrounds the two pieces so you can not use normal press to press out the wheel bearings. Thus having to bend you heat shield to press out your wheel bearing. Or you can go to KIA in Evans Georgia, $125 for only pressed out wheel bearings and if you want it pressed in another $125.00. Not everyone has that kind of money laying around, and some are on fixed incomes. So I say this to KIA, cheap shot at making your cars very expensive and proprietary. Cheap shot! I'll never buy another KIA ever because of this.

Have had nothing but trouble since I bought it new. First year, car stalled on Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge. Had it towed to Romeo Kia Kingston NY. ENGINE WAS REPLACED. 8/18 Heating and Air conditioner went. Not covered. Filed with Consumer Affairs. 4/19 Car died. Towed to Hudson NY because roadside assist ran out. Catalytic Converter replaced - $1,276. 1 week later another recall for Catalytic Converter. Still have 2 yrs. payments. Last time towed, my 6 mos. baby was in the car. Today I read of the fires in the engine. Waiting for another recall!! This is a life-threatening episode. TAKE THE CAR BACK!!!!

When I bought this car, I traded in a high mileage Dodge Caliber that still ran nearly perfect. I own a 2012 model that I bought about 3 years ago. First, paint started peeling by the tail lights. I was told the warranty was over because it had just passed the mileage threshold. I've never heard of that for a paint warranty. Last year the a/c died just as the summer heat was setting in. I haven't had that fixed yet. Recently a recall was issued to have the catalytic converter checked. Now there is an extended warranty to cover potential problems with the steering. I hate that I bought this car. I hate that I gave up my Dodge. 2 years to go and I'll be lucky if it's still running. Oh. The kicker? Not even 90k miles. Nice.

If I could put zero stars I would, I purchased a 2015 Kia Soul in 2017 with a little under 50,000 miles. At 80,000 miles the engine goes out and I'm told it’s because I used generic oil filters so I purchased a used engine. I’m now at 86,500 and this engine is out as well right outside of its warranty. Since the first engine went out I have only been getting my oil changed at the Kia dealership, and the engine went out as well for an oil issue. I am so disgusted and outraged and all the folks at the “lovely” Kia dealership can do is apologize for the inconvenience. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER KIA and I will make sure everyone I know won’t either.

I have a 2014 Kia Soul that has only 18000 miles on it, it is still covered under the factory warranty. It idles fine in gear until you depress the brake pedal and then the engine slows down to the point that it shakes, I have taken this car to Stevens Creek Kia service center around 5 or 6 times and each time I was told that they changed this or that and they tell me that the car is fine now which is NOT true. The car still shakes. When I asked questions about the way that this car shakes they answer back in gibberish and lies and send me on my way. I will never buy another Kia again and if you own a Kia do not take it to Stevens Creek Kia for service, they are just like Kia the company they tell you what they want you to believe truth or not and will abandon you! Kia's customer service center abandoned me too!

I bought a 2016 Kia Soul! (Exclaim) in March of 2017. I’ve never had any mechanical issues in any way until this year. On 4/4/19 I was driving on a highway when a freak accident happened and my oil cap popped off, I pulled over right away after I heard the noise and called for a tow truck. There was still oil in my car when I called for a tow truck and when it was being lifted on the bed oil was still leaking out. It was taken to the closest Kia dealership which blamed me for running with my oil light on so it wasn’t covered under warranty.
They also said nothing else was wrong with my car, just the missing cap and lack of oil (due to missing cap). I drove 20 miles and before I could make it home my oil light started flickering like crazy. I pulled over and was advised to call yet ANOTHER tow truck. I did and it got towed to a different dealership. That dealership did an extensive investigation into my car and had a district manager involved who said I would need a new engine but it wasn’t going to be covered under warranty due to no oil in my engine “maintenance neglect”!
The only time I didn’t have oil was when it drained out on the side of the road. I never drove with my oil light on and did everything I was advised to. My car was 2 years old had 33,000 miles on it and they don’t want to cover a new engine like they should! I was told to contact customer affairs and got screamed at by not one but TWO managers when I plead my case. We finally got ahold of corporate who was also very nasty. They agreed to reopen my case once we mentioned a lawyer and BBB. I will NEVER buy another Kia again because of this entire mess with customer service. Awful company.

I bought a 2017 Kia Soul in March of 2017. As of today I will have had 5 new tires, 4 of which I paid for and only 1 which was covered under the warranty. I live in Phoenix, Arizona, not the mountains of Peru! I drive on modern highways. I have driven for 50 years and never had so many tire problems on cars that I owned before. What is wrong with these tires? Every time one goes flat, the dealer asks me "did you bump a curb?" Well, maybe, but when did tires become so fragile that they cannot be bumped without splitting the tread? I otherwise would love the Soul, but I cannot recommend it to anyone because of the continuing flat, irreperable tires.

I chose to buy the Kia Soul in 2014 because of the gas mileage, affordability, the size, and the warranty. I wish to God I never bought this car! Problems started at 10000 miles with no pick- up. Then the car started hesitating badly and lurching on its own while driving. Then followed the engine noises, the shaking, weird burning smells, electrical problems, bubbles in the tire walls, faulty brakes, etc. The list goes on. I have not driven my Soul on the freeway in over two years due to the way it performs. Just recently, the heat blower failed and have even louder engine noises are under the hood. Company does nothing. My issues "cannot be reproduced?" I have less than 60000mi, bought this new in 2014, and it is a piece of junk. I caution anyone contemplating the purchase of any Kia vehicle to run away fast!

Milton ON- dealing with Leggat Kia Burlington for My leased Kia Soul SX 2015 (It’s a 4-year lease car due back in 9 months) which has just been towed to KIA after it stalled and would not restart. I am being told it is engine failure? The service rep said, "Well you have 125,000 km on it in three years" and I said, "What does that matter? I’ve had many vehicles in my life with way more mileage than that and no engine failure," service rep says, "Well there are large gaps between your servicing for oil changes," I said, "Really? So you have somehow seen all my records from Mr Lube where regular maintenance took place?" Service rep says, "Well that’s a problem right there. They probably used the wrong filters," so I say, "Are you ** kidding me? Estimate for repair I was told not under warranty, will be approx $5700 for new engine!!!"
I said, "I am not paying $5700 + labour to put a new engine in a car that’s going back." KIA WTF!!! Escalating complaint now to KIA. Oh yeah last year there was a loud rattling under hood and I took it to Leggat to diagnose. Was told later that it was just some rust on brake pad. They cleaned it off? Didn’t sound like it was coming from wheel and now I wonder if this is related to engine? Good thing I still have the recording of the sound to use in court because I’m sure that’s where I will be taking this matter.

At first I loved the 2013 Kia Soul. It was not my first choice because I am not a huge fan of Kia, but it was comfortable and affordable. I love the looks of it and find it very comfortable. It's cute and I love having the hatchback door. Had great gas mileage and rode quiet and nice. But now there is something going on causing issues and it only has 58, 000 miles on it so I am discouraged. I dislike too that there seems to be a lack of pick me up. It could be better.

We were won over by the advertising that Kia chose to use, since we think Hamsters are cute animals. The Kia Soul is fuel efficient and spacious while not being too big. We haven't had any issues related to the car model itself, but we have had issues with the electrical components acting up and giving false idiot light indicators. Also, the only change I would make to the Kia Soul would be to raise the car a few more inches. Being as tall as I am, I would enjoy the car more if I didn't have to lower myself so much to get into it. Also, if the Kia were a bit taller, it'd be more reliable during flooding.

I love my Kia Soul and it is durable and likable! I really love the shape and the color ranges available for the car. The trunk space is fairly nice. The seats are comfortable and the seating space is roomy! The brakes are fine and the driving experience is relatively smooth. The engine is relatively problem free. It does not need a ton of maintenance! But the seat belts can be a bit more sturdy and easy to use. The mileage is fair but can be better. The seats can stain easily. Furthermore, the car has to be driven carefully when negotiating narrow sudden turns especially in winter driving conditions as it can topple over easily.

I love how functional this car is. It looks small but actually had a lot for room on the inside. It drives nicely and is able to fit into many size spaces when parking. I liked steering and how it was a four door vehicle. However, I don't like that my car does not have a back up camera or any sensors to sense when another car is in the blind spot. I would improve the sound system as well. Overall, I didn't want an expensive car or SUV but I also didn't want a regular car. I felt that this fit me the best. It has everything I have wanted.

I have driven the car now for almost four years. I drive it back and forth every day. It's a good eco rider. It runs on gas and gets started with a key as you push down the clutch. I like that it is a manual shift so it get very good gas mileage. On the other hand, I wish it had more get up and go but it's only four-cylinder. It's a Kia so I'm not surprised about that fact but I just go on day by day doing my best and trying to keep my chin up.

We chose Kia in general because we'd heard very good things and read good reviews on consumer reports and elsewhere. The 2013 Kia Soul itself we got because it was more affordable than other models and it got good gas mileage. We actually bought two of them at the same time or close together at least. A red one for me and then alien green one for my husband. We bought the ones that were available on the lot at the time. Although if we had our choice we would have preferred white. But there weren't any on the lot at the time.
It's had some issues with service. There was a problem with faulty gas mileage and there was a lawsuit. We are beneficiaries of the Judgment against the company for that. We've also had issues with things not being put together well and having to be put back. And we had a problem with the check engine light that would come off and on, off and on all the time. And although we've taken the car in several times for different reasons they never would address the check engine light. They kept saying that it was needing this service or that service but in the end we found out that it was an update that was needed for the computer. By the time we finally learned the truth it was out of warranty. When we called about having the update run on the computer they told us that since it was out of warranty that would now be $65. I'm very unhappy with the fact.
My biggest complaint is with customer service. Or more so the service center. I'm sure they're very good at selling the cars. It's just taking care of them after the fact that isn't so great. Each time I brought the car in for something they would pressure me to buy a new car instead. We also had a lot of problems with the lighter slash charger in the front. It kept tripping Brakers. And we would go in, they change the breaker and then on the way home it would trip the braker again and blow it. I don't know why. That probably needs to be upgraded or looked at.

It has a large enough back seat from my teenage boys. It's gets great gas mileage and is very easy to drive. The vehicle is low maintenance with an excellent warranty. This car also came Bluetooth ready. While the one I have is fine it could use a little more zip. I would have chosen the model with the bigger engine. In addition, I wish they make the tire pressure sensor a little less sensitive for it seems like the light on the dash is always lit.
