I have had problems with my 2012 Ford focus soon after it was bought new. It hesitates when taking off, has stalled when riding down the road, won't go into gear sometimes, it shudders and grinds. I have taken it to the dealer and they replaced a seal from a recall that they had for this problem. I just received another recall letter from Ford a few days ago about the transmission hesitating and cars stalling on the road. Today I was in a restaurant drive thru and a hill assist not available light came on and when I pressed the gas to go and the car won't go but the motor was just revving.

I turned the car off and restarted and the car finally went even though the hill assist light was still on. This happened 2 more times. I then got to a steep hill and the hill assist light came on, the motor light came on and the oil light was on. The car was revving while going up the hill but hardly moving. Also, there was a grinding noise so I found a spot to quickly stop. I turned the car off and tried to restart it, but it wouldn't start or do anything. These cars are extremely dangerous and are going to end up injuring or killing someone. I am scared to even drive it after I take it into the ford place to get it fixed if they ever get it fixed. I also had problems with the wipers after it was first bought. I am very disappointed in Ford and feel they need to fix these cars as I have read a ton of complaints and some accidents and near accidents. Ford you need to fix your cars before it puts you out of business. I am literally scared of my car!

Ford Focus 2011 - Have brought my car in to the service center. It's there as I am writing this.... Been there for 8 days. If they don't find the problem it becoming too costly. They found wiring problem, that runs through the door and is draining the battery and the dashboard, gas gauge, lights. Last time about 3 months ago it was a knocking noise on the left side and I was to bring it in 90 days later for the right side. When is this going to get fixed....???

The new Ford Focus is purchased in 2014, has transmission problems which I noticed not too long after taking possession of the vehicle. When I went back to Ford they told me it was a normal thing to happen in the gear changing but I have had my license for nearly 40 years and have never had this problem before, the problem got worse so back to Ford again. This time the service manager told me there was an infection in the transmission. He booked my car in for it to be fixed in 3 weeks time as I was told a parts shipment was due in and they would need it for 3 days.

The day I took it in I was given a loan car. After 3 days I rang to see how my car was and was told it needed a new clutch (6 speed auto), also asked for other work to be done. They told me it would take another 3 weeks at least to get the part in. They told me that they put mine back together and would notify me when the part arrives, still waiting. They also said they had rung me and left a message. Checked my mobile and home phone but no messages.

They had my car for 3 days and did nothing, not even the extra work I asked them to do. My partner and I are going in tomorrow to speak with them about how we are going to solve this problem as the vehicle is just over 12 months old and has been in more times than it should have been. We are not very happy about this as the car is sounding worse every day but Ford don't seem too concerned about this problem and would like the other work done as well. I also paid for the extended warranty which may have been a blessing in disguise. Thanks, from unhappy Ford owners.

My 2013 Ford Focus almost got me killed. I was on the Bay Bridge in the middle lane, when I experience extreme loss of power. I was moving with the speed of traffic, and all of a sudden no power. I had to cut across three lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder, just missed getting smashed by a Mac Truck. I had just gotten the car back from the dealer two weeks earlier for the same problem. They assured me that that it was fixed and that what was going on was "normal." I am scared to drive it, I am scared to sell it to someone because they might hurt themselves or others. I am taking the car in again tomorrow. This is the worst lemon around. People are going to die because the car does not reliable, perhaps they already have. Ford has a responsibility to protect its customers.

I received a letter from Ford March 31st that said "On some 2012 model year fiesta and focus models, the transmission control module may experience electrical circuit failures causing intermittent loss of transmission engagement while driving, no start, or lack of power." At the bottom of the page it says not to bring vehicle in for service unless you are experiencing these symptoms. My problem is that when I try to accelerate it doesn't shift into the right gear right away. It just grinds through the gears until it finally gets going. The faster you try to accelerate the worse it is. I feel like I am going to get run over because it's so slow taking off.

I ended up taking it in to the dealer the next day. They kept it for two days and decided that it needed a new clutch. I was satisfied with that until they said it was going to take 3 months to get the new clutch in. They did a temporary fix by reprogramming that has made it a little better but it will not last 3 months. Now all I can do is hope the transmission isn't completely trashed by the time they can replace the clutch.

Last July I leased a 2014 Ford Focus EV (electric vehicle). This has proven to be the worst overall experience I have ever had with any car. Dealing with Ford has been a disaster. I've never been treated so rudely by a company like that. One of the issues I have is with the window in the rear hatch. It has a pattern in it that looks like it was put through a waffle iron. It is extremely distracting when you are looking through the rear view mirror and it's worse in certain lighting conditions. When I bring this to the attention of the dealer and also to Ford customer disservice they only will say that other cars have it too so that means it's normal. With that philosophy how do recalls ever happen? If thousands of cars have the same defect doesn't that make it normal? I don't think so but apparently Ford does. I got a letter from Ford today saying that they are sorry I'm unhappy but they have done everything they could to address the situation. I'm still waiting to hear what they have done because they have done nothing. As far as they're concerned just live with it and shut up.

I'm also having problems with the sync system. As I'm driving along my phone just disconnects and I have to manually re-connect again. This can happen multiple times in one day and then it may not happen again for a week. It's totally random. When I brought it in for service the hooked up another phone to it overnight and in the morning it was still connected so in their minds there is nothing wrong. I am told the sync system as a whole is functioning fine with no problems yet a while back I received either a letter or an e-mail from Ford saying that the warranty on the sync system has been extended to five years due to the problems. In addition the letter said that Ford would no longer be using Microsoft and would be switching companies in the future. That doesn't sound like the system is just fine to me.

In addition, another problem with that same system is it changes the input source at will. I can be listening to music from one source and it will just switch to radio. That doesn't sound like the system is fine. There are other smaller problems with the car as well but added all up this car is a very bad investment in my opinion. This is not my first Ford product but it certainly will be my last.

SVT or Transmission? Cannot find lower end gears. Sputters, hesitates, leaps when applying gas pedal. Dangerous pulling out into intersections or in stop/go traffic. Returned car once and Ford Dealership reprogrammed. Dealership stated this was normal. Asked the assistance at the service counter if she would put her family in this car and she stated no; but maybe her son. At Christmas a person I know who works at a Ford Dealership in another state asked if the transmission went yet when I told him I had purchased a 2013 Focus.

The Service Manager stated Ford sent letters out extending the transmission warranty. Can't remember what the extended-to information was. Never received any letter from Ford addressing this hazard. It is horrible trying to navigate in a snow storm when roads are slippery and you have a leaping car transmission. Worried we will be stuck with a large transmission bill soon after purchasing the new vehicle a year and a half ago - September.

I have to say! I am impressed w/ the way the Ford Co. manager handled my situation! After going back and forth from person to person, I was finally able to get the help I badly wanted/needed.

I was able to get my car looked at again by Ford and they finally ended up replacing the module and that really seemed to fix my issue, I really don't have anymore problems.

This issue caused my car to be in shop for about a week and the ford manager I spoke to was able to set me up w/ a rental until my focus was fixed.

I have to say, I am very impressed with the end result!

Only a couple months ago I bought my 2013 Ford Focus with 41,000 miles on it. Ever since the beginning the car has been quite jerky, but I didn't really think anything of it. Now, 2 months later I'm going onto the freeway and the car starts to jerk when I accelerate and the check engine light came on, and the car stalled. I tried and tried to turn the car back on but it just wouldn't budge. So after about 30 minutes of trying to figure out what I was going to do, I tried the car again and it worked! So, I took no chances and drove STRAIGHT home cause this was around 10pm at night.

I took it to Ford the next day (it was covered under warranty) and they said "oh yeah, it's just the computer wasn't syncing with the trans," so they CLAIM to have updated it... Less than 48 hours of them "updating" it, I try to start the car to go back home from work and guess what?!?! The car wouldn't start. The lights, music, buttons, radio etc. all worked and the tow even said it wasn't the battery.

So, I called Ford (this was on a Sat.) and he said it's probably something with a module, why??? EVEN THOUGH I JUST GOT THE COMPUTER "UPDATED"??? Now, the car is in the shop and I have no way of getting to work. This car has been jerky, lunging, not shifting correctly and downright awful since I got it! I am almost at the point of saying "here, take your piece of ** car back!" because this is ridiculous! I guess next time I will be doing my research on a vehicle a little better before buying it!

Bought my 2008 Focus brand new with only 15 miles on it. I traded a V-8 in for a 4 cylinder, thinking I would get better gas mileage. WRONG! My focus has never gotten better than 30 miles/gallon. Was told there was nothing they could do about it. Started having problems with door locks not working. The dealer replaced the locking mechanisms on all 4 doors while it was under warranty. Had trouble getting the key in the ignition, took it to dealer, and they greased it with (?) - no further problems. Passing gear was kicking in when accelerating, took it in and had it checked. They had to replace a plate on the transmission to correct it. The overdrive button fell off the shifter, took it in. They couldn't just put it back on, had to order a whole new shifter, and then had to go back and have it put on. Took it in due to needing the interior light replaced. Dealer informed me they had to replace the entire assembly due to a short.

Up to this point, everything has been covered by my warranty! Since my warranty has expired, I've spent about $1000 for a new water pump, new belt and pulley. Door locks haven't worked correctly for about 9 of the last 10 months. I now take my car to a different dealer, who tells me the problem is dirt build up. It's gotten to the point that the only door that will open is the driver's door. I just have to live with the fact that I can't lock my car period. Which is dangerous! I was told by the dealer that if I would bring it in, they would try to figure out the problem. Of course, I have to pay $107 plus the cost of a rental car, in the process. Nope, I'm just dealing with it. Also, the recent recalls regarding lack of acceleration in traffic, I was told that was normal for my car. I also asked if I needed a tune-up. Car has 90,000 miles on it. Dealer told me "NO".

One positive note: During the last snow fall, I had to park in my yard, due to not being able to get back in the driveway. Apparently the snow was deeper than my car's height off the ground. Guess what, now all 4 door locks work. Is it possible that I have a short in a wire in the locking system? Are these wires located under my car?

The car is out of warranty due to a previous owner, which is not fair for the consumer buying a vehicle. The warranty should extend to when a new buyer purchases a car. Did you ever hear of a radio breaking after 3 years? My god, you can start up a car from 40 years ago and the damn radio works. Purchased a 2014 Focus Titanium, and the transmission started rattling and surging when shifting in the first three gears within the first 1000 miles. Lived with this up until 25K Miles as it got continually worse, especially when the car was hot. Took it to Gary Yeomans Ford. The service advisory listened to me for about 30 seconds and said it will likely need a new clutch. They called me back two days later and told me a seal was replaced, firmware updated and new clutch was installed. Been driving it for 1K miles now and its absolutely perfect, impossible to tell it not a standard automatic. Needless to say I'm happy. I love the car and am glad to know I don’t have to get rid of it because of the transmission.

One year later I gave it back to dealer for 3 weeks to fix gear box problem (it's one of worst dealer ever in United Arab of Emirates) and they replace some parts. They confirmed that problem is fixed forever. Few months later same problem appeared again.

When I highlighted to dealer and service center they said it's only some software update. That I have to do it from time to time and of course the problem never fixed and I've been advised by the Ford representative to sell the car as the problem will never be fixed. I raised my complaints even to Ford Middle East and no single response. I drove many cars. Japanese, French, and Italian but I never had such. Please don't ever think to buy this car.

We picked up our new Ford Focus in January 2014 and during the first 1500 ks noticed a shudder from the left hand from wheel on a number of occasions whilst accelerating. At the first service (1500 ks) told the Ford service man who gave me a leaflet of the transmission in the car and told me the shudder was normal for this type of transmission.

During the year the shudder became worse and when returned car to Ford for the 15000 ks service they tested the car and said I would have to bring the car back at another time as the problem will take 2 days to fix. Told they believed oil was leaking on the clutches. When I picked the car up the services man was not willing to openly discuss what was repaired on the car and I asked if the clutches had been replaced as they would have worn with this problem. He told me they were within Ford's specification and if the problem persists then they would submit to Ford to have them replace.

On the way home shudder returns and they told me to drive it for a few hundred ks for the car to learn how to correct this. 2 months later and still not fixed decided to trade car, costing me money but could not afford to keep taking it back. Do not buy a Ford with this type of transmission. I will never buy any Ford again.

I bought a 2005 Ford Focus and had it for 7 years, loved the car. When I decided to trade up I went back for a 2013 focus. BIG mistake, as best I can tell, 2012- present Ford Focuses all have issues with the CVT transmission. Worst part is, Ford lies about it. I had transmission issues since day 1, but they were minor enough at first, though it got progressively worse. I received a letter from Ford in July of 2014 that there was a known transmission issue and I could bring it in and have it fixed. The letter said that in some transmissions, the seals leak causing the fluid to contaminate the clutch, causing the issues. The letter said I could bring it in and have the seals and clutch replaced and they would extend the warranty on the seals and clutch.

So I did, and after months of dealership issues trying to get in it (that's a whole different story). I did get the repair. However, per the report I got back, the seals were not leaking. So, question is, if that's the cause, then why did my clutch go bad. Had several conversations w managers at dealership that leads me to believe that the seals are not the problem, that Ford doesn't know what the problem is, and the clutch will have to be replaced repeatedly. Ended up trading it in to another dealership for a different car. Will never buy a Ford again!

Stalling and jerking making odd fluttering noises and chugging too. Now DYING IN TRAFFIC, also when yielding, when taking off from stop, middle of intersection at a red light! The latest after they fixed it for the recall on the 6 speed transmission recall from Ford: We were just leaving trying to fuel up when it refused to take the gas so we didn't force it and just left heading back to dealership and it dies, now they say after retrieving us and the car from the yield ramp safely and away (from unhappy cursing honking rude drivers), the dealership says the cars failure was caused by collapsed fuel tank, 2nd fuel pump failed and the gas lines which apparently has sand and dirt in the fuel system due to driving it on our little rural community roads which they knew we lived on when we purchased the car.

All is supposedly good till the warranty runs out in six more months but after that it’s OUR problem and FORD is saying there is no answer to the problem except don’t drive it on dirt roads???? They offered us a buyback leaving us 6000.00 upside down, and the opportunity to purchase a new ford, same engine, same trans, only different model, newer year. I began having problems about a year after purchasing our 2012 Focus. It had a rumble in the rear end. I took it into our local Ford dealer and he told us that we had a tire that had broken a belt and had bad tire wear. We then replaced the tires. A few months later, the car began shaking when driving certain speeds. I had the tires checked. The tire company stated the tires looked "chopped" and needed to be replaced. I then called the tire company and they replaced the tires thinking they were defective. I was told by the technician that replaced the tires that I should take it back to Ford and see if there was something wrong with the alignment. I did just that. Ford told me that there was nothing wrong with the car. I was satisfied that the problem was with the tires.

Needless to say, a few months later, the car began jumping again. I called Ford. They stated they can fix the car for the $200 deductible on my warranty. Of course, they stated they will do nothing about the tires. The service manager went as far as to say that he thinks there is something definitely wrong with the car but we would need to pay the deductible. So, what? So Ford knows there is a problem. After all, I can even tell. Just do a Google search on Ford Focus tire problems and there are pages of results. There even has been class action suits and they still are not doing a recall?

I feel bad for those who have to take the calls from customers and explain that even though their customers have spent hundreds of dollars on fixing a problem, they are asked to spend even more. Sorry, I used to be a loyal Ford product consumer. You lost me Ford. Believe me. I will be warning everyone I meet on the dangers of purchasing a Ford. Tomorrow I take it to the service department, but with the things I've read, I have VERY low expectations. I think this may be my last American branded car. I put 200,000 miles on a 1986 Mercedes, 214,000 miles on a 1986 Toyota Supra, 241,000 miles on a 1972 Toyota Celica, almost 200,000 miles on a 1987 Toyota Cressida - nothing to buy but consumables and oil changes on them all. I bought a 2003 Buick, and the damned thing almost broke me - even though it was still under an extended warranty. Now I have a Ford Focus with fewer than 30,000 miles that is about to fail completely.

So many times the navigation will show the car on a completely different street or a few times driving through the Delaware River from Philly to Camden. The car rolls back at stops on hills, lack of acceleration, shaking and grinding noises. Shift car into Reverse and car would not move the engine. Just revs like it's in Neutral. Car always hesitates when taking off or trying to accelerate. Once I had walked up unlocked the car opened door and it started to make all this loud noise from the auto's speakers. I did not know what was going on. Thought the car was possessed or was going to blow up. The car was not even on. Had to turn the car on and the noise stopped. Currently trying to work with attorney on it. I will never buy another Ford.

The next day I took it in the dealership and they said it needed a software upgrade. It does seem to have better acceleration but I still hear the grinding noise between 1st to the 3rd gears. I am afraid this problem is only going to get worse. I love everything else about the car.... I just want this problem to be fixed!!! I think there should be a recall on this transmission!!! 20,000 miles on it and runs worse than the 2006 focus with 147,000 miles I traded in to get this one.... I am very disappointed Ford!!! What Happened? Seven model years later and less quality? It doesn't make any sense!!!!

We want to make it clear it is the Ford Company we are complaining about not the maintenance dept at Plaza Ford. They gave us good service. Our 2013 Ford Focus transmission in our brand new car at 2,000 kms started giving us trouble and I almost hit 2 pedestrians when I was stopped and the car jumped ahead, after 6 appointments and another 20,000 kms. They put in new clutches at 47,000 kms. We were told the clutches were gone again. That is about 2 months ago. No clutches yet.

Very sorry bought this car. Would not recommend this kind of car to anybody. Meanwhile our kms are going on while we are waiting and there is nothing we can do. Otherwise the car is easy on gas. Drives nice when working right. We want a new transmission, which this car needs, not new clutches every 20,000 kms.

I purchased a 2014 Ford Focus SE from Bozard Ford in St Augustine, FL on 9/30/2014. From the minute it went over the curb, there was noise in the front end, rattling, in the right front strut, in the rear end and I was constantly fighting the steering as it would 'suddenly' pull to the right. I returned the car within minutes of the purchase for the issues. They looked it over and said to make an appointment. I did. Brought the car back to see about hearing things FALLING OFF the car; clips that hold the plastic wheel wells covers were missing and could have caused the plastic to fall and thus lock up the front end. The spare tire was loose and it had a bad shock. But the right front end was still making noise, the steering was crazy and the transmission (automatic) shifted like a 14 year old in a stick for the first time.

I made another appointment and took the car back AGAIN. They 'reloaded' the OB Computer since that now controls the power steering and the transmission. But they did not address the rattling noise in the right front strut area. I drove the car, took it back, they had to flash the computer AGAIN and Sync (it had not worked until then) and that helped the lying mileage estimator but the transmission still shifts horribly AND the steering still felt like it was hydroplaning at higher speeds and suddenly pulling to the right. PLUS the noise in the front right strut was STILL there AND I noticed condensation in the trunk.

I made yet ANOTHER appointment before Thanksgiving and took the car back AGAIN for all the above - including the condensation in the trunk - as in WATER LEAK. They did all the same things again and I told them at this point, I HATED the car. HATED HATED HATED. They tried to UP SELL me another car. I refused. So I went away with the car still driving like crap, the noise, nothing at all corrected but I had logged about 30 hours of wait time at the dealership since 9/30 and I was just DONE.

I called and made ANOTHER appointment before Christmas for the exact same issues as listed above. They FINALLY looked at the strut and said it was indeed defective and oh look, there's water in the trunk. They had to order a strut. The strut came in December 30, 2014 and I made ANOTHER appointment (sigh) for January 12, 2015. I took the car BACK AGAIN to Bozard (as all of this has been done there) and they had their 'leak specialist' check the trunk, find and fix the leak - allegedly. The strut was an all day replacement process of SIX HOURS (I can do 2 struts/2 shocks, an oil change and a front end alignment myself in less time than that! ) but it's still making noise.

Oh and they left the car sitting out IN THE RAIN WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. I have NEVER done that to my car and even keep a towel so I can wipe away water when I get in/out of the car when it rains! The car is currently at the dealership being dried out. If if smells bad in any way or starts to mold, they HAVE TO REPLACE the interior. I cannot tell you if they have fixed the strut today but I CAN tell you that I have opened a case with the BBB, Ford Corporate, the US CPA and the State of Florida Attorney General's office and filed under the Lemon Law.

Bozard Ford has REPEATEDLY asked me to either NOT fill out the service surveys OR TO LIE. That is deceptive business practices and at the minimum unethical. I went there to buy the car because of their dealer ratings. Had I known they were lies, I never would have gone there.

They have fixed a strut + window + battery in 2013. They said it was still under 3 year 36000 mile warranty. But when I picked it up, they said the battery had been put in the car in 2011 so I was technically supposed to buy the battery. But since they had missed it when they put it in, they would not charge us for it. How lucky can you get? We've been waiting for about a month and a half for transmission parts with no answer when they will have parts. But while we have been waiting, the 3 year 36000 mile warranty has expired. They tell us to keep driving it. I talked to a Ford Rep. She said they were in the business of fixing cars, not giving us a new one. Something about a lemon law. I never even brought it up. 2010 Focus SE 4DSD automatic - Approximately 48,000 miles so far, with the only two issues. One was when the rubber on the upper motor mount deteriorated, allowing the engine to touch down on the bracket and caused a very noticeable amount of vibration as the engine revs up during driving. It would have been a fairly easy replacement and I was ready to replace it myself, but after finding out it was covered by the factory powertrain warranty, had it replaced by Stevens Ford, which provided excellent service. The replacement restored smooth idle and operation.

The other item was the rear defroster grid lines, which I was surprised to find out are only surface application, rather than embedded within the window glass. Even though I never touched the rear glass, they separated from the glass and are now hanging down like Christmas tree tinsel. I thought this was going to be a widespread issue, but looking online for other reports of this, could find none. Just may have been a greasy day during the build of my particular car, unfortunately. But aside from that, it's been pretty much as good as could be expected, generally returning about 30 MPG with mixed driving.

Oh, and never believe any of the factory MPG displays, they're ALWAYS optimistic, reading about 10% higher than reality. No different in this case; if you want a true on board MPG indicator, get something like an Ultra gauge to plug into your OBD-II port, which reads out the real MPG values. I understand these consumer affairs boards are geared mostly for complaints, so they're going to be somewhat skewed, but they do give some sense of trouble spots. After reading all the horror stories on the Mini Cooper section, the Focus seems comparatively flawless..

So the noise, lack of acceleration, etc. doesn't matter if it passes Ford's test. Ford says there is nothing they can do about dealers not having capacity to address problem - so its catch 22. We purchased a Ford Focus hoping to gain a reliable, fuel efficient car. Strangely, everything we read seemed very positive, although after purchasing it and looking up our problems we realized we weren't alone. On our first long trip with the car just after buying it, we had problems. We took it in and they said nothing was wrong. We continued to have problems with the car jerking forward at stops, rolling backwards immediately on hills and sluggish acceleration (as if the car had little power). Our dealer kept telling us it was normal and pushing us to wait to bring it in for service so the car could "learn how we drive". They even refused to give us a work order on one visit. We typically bike commute and with that and the dealer pushing us to wait for service. Now we have been pushed out of our right to use Wisconsin's Lemon Law. We are hoping Ford will be exposed for taking advantage of the consumers and hoping it won't take deaths to fix the issues with the Focus.

I purchased a 2012 Ford Focus used on 10-21-2013. We were not told about any of the problems Ford was having with this car. We've had the car just under a year, and are now have transmission problems. It seems fine when it's cold, but after it warms up and you get in heavy traffic the clutch chatters when taking off, and now when shifting into 2nd and sometimes 3rd. I was told this was from defective oil seals leaking gear lube onto the clutch plates. I took it in for service and all they did was reset the computer, that made it shift better but didn't get rid of the chatter; in fact, it made it worse.

I contacted Ford. They said to take it to the dealer for inspection, that's not helpful. I just got it back from them. They had the car for 15 days, like I going to take it back to them. If that's not bad enough this is my first Ford. I wasn't having much luck with GM with all their recalls. It seems like no one cares. They have your money that's all that matters to them. It must be made in China.

I bought a Focus 2013 in April 2013. It was my first time owning a car so I was very excited. Just few days later, after driving my new car, one of my friends told me that some noise came out from the car and it sounded abnormal to a brand new car. I did not care much about his comments since I did not have any experience about a car. When the mileage went up to 18,000 km, the noise became so loud that I could not stand it anymore and started worrying my safety. So I went to the local dealership in my town. They just told me that it was not a big problem and need to fix the transmission, but I had to wait for some parts.

So one month later, I came back and got a seal change. But the noises were same as before. When the mileage went to 22,000, I came to the dealership again. They replaced a clutch, but the noises were same again. So I asked their technicians driving my car together and listening the noises, both of they said the noises did not come out from the engine or transmission, but from the back tires of my car, and further explained that the worn tires could produce the abnormal noises. I am not a professional. I just know my is jerking and clicking loudly - even the car is standing, the noises and shaking are still there. BUT I AM STILL TOLD IT IS NORMAL. How can I believe FORD?

I have all the common issues, shuddering, jerking, slow shifting, high RPMs, etc etc etc. The transmission is a mess and it makes the car a real pain to drive. I didn't get a brand new car so that I could deal with all these issues continually. The thing that makes me the most angry is the fact that Ford has consistently lied to everyone about this issue.

Obviously they've instructed their service people to tell everyone this is completely normal. That it'll go away after 7 or 10 thousand miles. Basically, long enough that it won't be their issue again. I'm currently exploring lemon lawsuits as well as class action lawsuits to get rid of this piece of junk. I will never buy a Ford vehicle ever again. I will prevent every single person I know from throwing their money away on a Ford vehicle for as long as people will hear my story. Ford should step up and buy these useless vehicles back. They are NOT safe. People are crashing because of these issues and I'm worried I'll be next on that unfortunate list.

They did a learning adaptive reset on it that fixed for 2 months. I took it back again for the same issue and they changed the clutches, at that time it was like a brand new car but now the shuddering and shaking was when I was going on reverse. That was almost 4-5 months ago, I'm thinking on taking it back to the dealership some time next week when I have a chance for the same issue, currently 13000 miles on it. It is very frustrating for someone like me that pays monthly for it knowing that when the warranty is over (2-3 years at my driving rate) it will be out of pocket when you are not even finished paying for it.

I purchased my 2013 Ford Focus almost a year ago. I have taken the car in to be reviewed and/or fixed/repaired for transmission problems 4 times over that time frame. The first time I took my car in was for an oil change (~9k miles) plus to talk to the service rep about my concern that my car shakes, grinds, jerks forward and jolts even when in reverse. I was told that day it was normal and no need to worry.

Backing up to when I purchased the car - I was told that the car will take up to the first 10k miles for it to "learn me" but once it learns me all the grinding will stop and jerking will smooth out (**keep in mind it did not jerk or shake when test driving *lesson learn to take car for full 24 hours before buying next car!).. I was also told that it will sometimes feel like driving a manual transmission but I wasn't too worried about that because I used to drive a manual transmission for years - noooo biggie. BUT REALLLLLLYYYY.. How is it when I'm in rush hour traffic that I'm jolting forward, car is shaking uncontrollably from the transmission trying to find a gear to get into between the MPH of 5-25 mph???? It feels like the transmission is trying to catch in 3rd gear when I have slowed down to almost to a full stop and it should be at least catching in 2nd if not 1st when completely stopped. (*even when driving a 4 wheeler this is still the case!!!!)

I did receive a letter from Ford Motor Company to take car in for possible reprogramming and changing seals for transmissions.. Okay I have taken it in twice now for reprogramming - was told by service tech both times that it didn't fall into the guidelines of the transmission being repaired even further - now next week I'll take it in again and maybe this time it will be getting the seals replaced. But from what I have heard it won't make a difference.. Until the full transmission is replaced with a newer and safer transmission - no seal or reprogramming is going to make a difference. Ford did extend the transmission warranty to 100k .. It is appreciated but I'm stuck now with this car, probably will never get a good trade-in value.. NO ONE will buy this car knowing it has these problems with the transmission - with or without an extended warranty!

Luckily I can glide into a Dunkin Donuts lot. Call Ford service, they ask if I could drive it there which is about 15 miles away. I told them I could try and drove it there the whole way. The car could not find a gear during acceleration, and to the point where the engine would rev real high then all of a sudden it would catch and the car would jump. I was driving during rush hour, in rotaries etc... it was treacherous. They had the car for two weeks, could fix the ultimate problem and got some new seals and an upgrade.

Today driving home, the car jumped in traffic and then started making a loud clicking noise. Then it wouldn't drive in 1st gear it would jump into second. When we got out of the car to enter a store, we locked the doors with the touch of the handle on the door. When we went to get into the car, we opened the doors and a very loud snapping and popping started coming out of all the speakers of the car. Not just loud, but a disorienting sound.

After a few seconds, this turned into a guttural thunder of drums sound again loud and maybe even louder. My husband turned down the sound on the radio with no effect to the sound of the drumming. Finally he sat down and started the car which stopped the noise.

I have no idea what the consequences are, this just happened today. I have no idea what this noise was either. On YouTube, others have experienced this too. Has anyone else had this problem? If this happens again, we will tape it as well and post to YouTube so others may see it and might have an answer. It's just weird..real weird. I have hired an attorney to join the mix because I am fed up with Ford telling us all "this is 'normal'" OR my all-time favorite "your car is programmed to respond to how you drive it; you are not driving it properly!!" Really?

Ford said they sacrificed performance for fuel efficiency but I'm only drawing 29 mpg on a good day, on a car promising 35. Where's the trade off? This car is junk - pretty to look at but "nobody's home"... and I'm only holding onto it to be a vindicated party in one of the many class actions and get my money back. It is a matter of principle now. Ford, YOU built this transmission, YOU failed, YOU should accept responsibility and make it right... but we all know you won't until someone dies in one of these cars and then we'll see your exec on CNN apologizing while a staff member is spotted in the background shredding TSP's. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER FORD! PERIOD... JUNK, JUNK, JUNK, JUNK!!!! DO NOT BUY FORD!!!!

Drove the car off the dealer lot, everything was ok. After only 800 miles on car, the transmission starts to have a mind of its own. It jerks, shutters, don't know what gear it should be in. Sometimes it's a good day and others, I want to drive the car off a cliff. After reading the comments on the site, I decided to go with the flow. It's not going to get fix. So now I can have a new car that runs like it's more than 10 years old with over 100k miles on it. Thank you Ford, burn in hell.

Bought a 2014 Ford Focus new in September of 2013. This is an SE model with the 6 speed automatic, or automated manual as they like to say. It has always been jerky to a point which I got used to and actually didn't bother me. After about 7,000 miles on the car the transmission started to shudder really badly between first and second gear. I had it to my dealer on August 11th, 2014 and they did a new transmission flash. Upon leaving the dealer it was actually shifting worse and was now grinding from 1st to 2nd gear. I called the dealer and they said it needed to get used to my driving habits again and said to wait. After a few days it did smooth out some, feeling more like when I bought it new, however with occasional shudder like before. It also slipped more than once as well. It now shifts.... okay. But every now and then still shudders and struggles. It will be going to the dealer again shortly so a mechanic can tear it apart to look at it. Currently under 11,000 miles on the car.

My 2014 Ford Focus with the automatic is a POS. It hesitates between gears and has terrible dead spots when shifting on an incline. It seems to get worse when the AC is on. I took it into the dealer for this problem and as soon as I checked in at service, they gave me a two-page handout talking about how the transmission is different from other automatics and the characteristics of it. Well the tech looked at it. I was told it was within "spec" and there was nothing they could do and that Ford was aware of problems with this transmission and was trying to fix it with updates. Ford and its dealers are trying to pass lemons off on the public and don't seem to care about the customers.

We presently have our 2012 focus in the shop... for transmission issues... for the 3rd time... It was last repaired 6 months ago. We have had to put 2000.00 into this car... I have recently found out that Ford is giving longer warranties now. Well I have been without a car once again for 2 weeks because the Ford dealer can't get parts. We had tried to have our car repaired last time by another garage but was told he couldn't get parts because Ford gives them to their dealers and there is a constant problem with this transmission... as we well know! Prior to this car we had a new Ford Escape... same problem... We had 2 transmissions replaced! This is ridiculous since Ford knows these parts are defective!

How can Ford continue to do this to the consumers???? So how long will this transmission last... 6 months like last time or maybe a year? I was almost hit in both of these vehicles because of this issue! What's really sad is I love this car... just not the transmission... Everything else about this car is great.... but I can't constantly be without a car or worry about the transmission going bad. I would never ever recommend anyone to buy an Escape or Focus!!

First I purchased a 2013 Fiesta, my first automatic (I had only driven manuals before). At 27000 miles, it had to have new transmission. This new transmission lasted a whole 3 weeks and went bad again. I was even told by service guy at local dealership that it was the new transmission that had been put into this car that was new that year. So my husband and I talked with manager of local dealership. We explained to them my occupation as a nurse for hospice required me to drive a lot of miles and to have to be out all hours of night at times and I had to have something I could depend on that was going to be reliable. They showed us the Ford Focus, said it was a 2012 and had a different type of transmission in it and the car was very dependable, reliable and just plainly better built than the Fiesta. So we bought it.

Shortly after purchasing it, I questioned the service guy when I had taken it in for oil change about the noises and slight vibration I felt when pulling out from a stop in transmission. He explained to me that this was normal for this type of automatic transmission so I dealt with the noises and vibrations. BIG mistake on my part because the noises got louder. So I called the dealer and reported that noises were louder now in my transmission and that I was concerned. I was told by service tech that this was just how the transmissions sounded and that it was nothing for me to be concerned about, the car was fine. So I believed him. BIGGER mistake.

I continued to drive my Focus and as fate would have it, when I got 61,000 miles on my car, I was at a patient's house at 3 am and went to back out of their driveway, put my car in reverse as normal and let my foot off the brake and looked out my mirror to back up. The car instead went forward. I panicked and looked to be for certain that I was in reverse and not drive and was clearly in reverse. I hit the brake right before I went over an embankment then I finally got backed out of the driveway and started down the mountain road, my car now in drive.

The RPM's revved up into the red. The car lunged forward and then shifted gears so roughly, I thought for sure my transmission was going to be laying in the road. I did not have cell phone service in this area and it being this time of morning, I was scared and felt very unsafe I drove on praying the whole time the car would not quit. I made it to the end of the mountain road and went to turn right and the car lunged forward and the RPM's revved up again and it shifted gears and vibrated so bad my computer fell off the passenger seat into the floorboard of my car.

I made it to a gas station and pulled over where I knew I would now have cell phone service and called my husband and told him what happened. He told me to start heading toward the house and he would start heading toward me. When we met, he got out of the car and drove it while I drove his truck. When we got home, he told me that there was something definitely wrong with the transmission. I got on my computer at home and started doing research, found out I was not alone in this situation. Many Ford Focus owners are suffering from the same issues and problems. It was so bad that my husband insisted if I had to go out at night, I not take my own car, that I take his truck which is horrible on gas mileage.

We bought a F350 gas (from the same dealer as Focus by the way) and it averages 13 miles to a gallon so most of my profit was going into the tank. I finally told him we have to do something. So we took our car to a local certified mechanic. He said, 'Oh FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND A REPROGRAMMING IS ALL YOU NEED. I have to say I was happy to hear that so the next morning at 830 am, I took my car in and patiently waited for the reprogramming to fix my car. After several hours my car was ready and I was told it was fixed, I was excited.

I got in my car pulled onto the road and no stuttering, jerking or hesitation to move. I was excited more. Then I got to a red light in town on a slight incline had to stop as light was red and waited for it to turn green. Went to pull out, guess who's back: STUTTERING, VIBRATION, SHAKING, AND NOISES so bad, sounds like the car is going to shake itself apart. So back to garage, I go the next evening, I get a call to come to garage I walk in and our local mechanic tells me that my transmission problem is internal and is going to cost around 3 to 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS, I was devastated.

After hearing that news, my husband and I decided to trade it. We have been loyal FORD customers for years we purchased a truck for our farm, a F150 for our youngest son, our Focus, plus we sent two of our friends to Ford dealership to buy their new trucks. Not to even mention both my husband's father and my father are FORD customers and have bought many a FORD vehicles over their lifetimes. We by nature contact our local FORD dealer and are told not to even bring the vehicle in for them to look at unless we have SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS TO PUT AS A DOWN PAYMENT, so we look elsewhere, but sadly are told the same thing.

So now we are stuck with an unsafe, unreliable, undependable vehicle that nobody wants, not even FORD. So I have a 2012 car that will not be two years old to me until December 2014 that is basically a DEATH TRAP. And I sincerely mean that because I have almost been hit multiple times due to the fact that while it's trying to stutter and vibrate its way into gear, the vehicles behind me are not having this problem. Not to mention the fact that at a stop sign, I wait until there is nothing coming for MILES before I pull out because I don't want to get rear ended in the process due to the fact it takes my Focus 5 minutes to decide how to get in gear and go somewhere (this gets me lots of fingers, dirty looks, and curse words).

I will not put my grandsons in my Focus due to this. Every day, I have to drive this car. I pray to GOD he keeps me safe. I have never owned a vehicle I have felt this unsafe in. I feel it is truly sad that FORD MOTOR COMPANY is willing to put so many people's lives at risk over this. My husband is a self-employed farmer and we purchased numerous FORD trucks to use on our farm. We have a 95 F350, 01 F150, 2010 F150 and a 2011 F350 but if this issue goes unresolved, our next purchase will not be FORD AND THIS IS COMING FROM LOYAL FORD MOTOR COMPANY SUPPORTERS. And just for the record prior to purchasing my first vehicle, my old car was a 2000 Ford Focus hatchback manual and I loved that car. It had almost 200,000 when I sold it.

I purchased this car in March 2013, brand new, with 50 miles on it. During the first month of driving the car I noticed that it struggled to change gears. The dealership told me the car is learning how I drive and it would take time to fully adjust to my acceleration patterns. At 13,000 miles I knew there was definitely something wrong, as the car was shuddering when I attempted to accelerate. An awful grinding noise was being made when I stepped on the gas. In August 2013 I brought the car to Ford Dealership #1 and was told the issue was normal for my model of car. I insisted it was not normal for ANY car, but they told me due to the style of transmission I had, it just shudders.

I did not accept that answer and took the vehicle to Ford Dealership #2 in October 2013 at roughly 18,000 miles. The car continued to grind and occasionally lurch when changing gears. The dealership told me it is a common problem with 2013 Ford Focuses, but resetting the clutch module may help. I was without the vehicle for 3 days before it was returned to me, no different than when I dropped it off.

Fast Forward to August 2014 I was heading home from work (on the 405 Freeway in LA, mind you- one of the worst traffic highways in the country) when the transmission completely stopped working. In heavy traffic, positioned in the far left lane, the car would not move, as the engine revved and the rpms raced. The check engine light came on and the car dangerously lurched forward. Luckily there was enough room in front of me to slam on the brakes and avoid hitting anyone. I made my way off the road with my cars transmission struggling to run under 1000 rpms. Every time I stepped on the gas it would redline the rpms and grind. I had to stop driving the car when the transmission would no longer shift at all and have it towed to Ford Dealership #3 where it has been ever since.

Ford Dealership #3 has confirmed the transmission is not operating and the car is absolutely not drivable until further notice. They may have to replace the module, or computer which could take weeks. I could have been gravely injured, or injured someone else, as my cars transmission failed on the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles at 6 pm on a Thursday night. I was extremely frightened, as cars raced by me, honking aggressively. I sincerely appreciate your help in rectifying this situation. I currently have a very unsafe vehicle that I cannot drive, and paid quite a bit of money for.

I have a 2007 Focus PZEV. AT. It has vibration into the cabin at certain RPM. I heard it is the motor mounts but the garage says they are ok. Cost to replace them anyway? $600. Seems like a lot for a car with less than 50K on it. It absolutely does not like hard accelerating in hot weather with AC. And forget about climbing hills with 2 people in the car w/ AC on. Under normal, everyday driving in the city w/o AC and in cool weather Or with VERY easy driving in moderately warm weather with AC on and with just driver in the car, it's ok as long as you don't hit the gas.

Let me add here that I am not a hard driver. I am 63 years old and my 90-yr-old mother says I drive slower than she does. Well part of that is out of necessity with this car. I don't know if reinitializing the computer would help or not. I guess I can't complain too much because it is an "inexpensive" used car but I will not buy another one. Build quality is cheap. Lots of plastic. I can only recommend this car if: a) You are the only one who will be driving it and rarely need to use the AC; b) You don't need to drive it far; c) You can iron out the driveability problems (and maybe the vibration). Otherwise, I advise people to look elsewhere for a good used car; either try a Mazda 3 or a Honda or one of the other well known Japanese cars if you can possibly afford it.

I have a friend with the Mazda and there is NO comparison. You can tell as soon as you get in the car. But to be fair, that car is 50% more expensive. My advice is to spend the extra 50% and be happy. About the only good thing I have to say about this car is that the price was right. Other than that I give it low-med marks. Judging from what the others have said, I guess I am lucky in a sense. No transmission problems (that I KNOW of). Starts every time. Gets me where I have to go. Everything seems to work. If I had to commute a long distance, give friends rides, had a family, or and climbs hills, I would sell this one. I guess you get what you pay for but if peace of mind and driving pleasure rank high on your list, then look elsewhere.

I have been around cars my whole life and driven just about everything and never have seen this especially in a brand new car. Plus the performance leaves much to be desired. Don't pull out on to the street if there is a vehicle closer than 2 miles! You will get hit or severely tick them off. This car basically shuts down when asked to move quickly. My 3/4 pickup with 200k miles and a 6.5l diesel has more pickup than this. Normal driving it is jerky and unresponsive, it jams into gear constantly like you are really getting on it even if you're just pulling away from a stop sign. The mpg meter is easy off.

Apparently it's supposed to be getting 32 and it never changes but I always calculate at the pump and have yet to see anything over 28 and mostly Highway. I'd a sharp looking car. I love interior features but Ford needs to spend a bit more time on their chassis and drive train before all the extras.

3 times I've been told that Ford's Regional Customer Service Representative would contact me within 1 business day, and 3 times this did not happen. Not only have I put up with a subpar transmission in my 2012 Ford Focus Titanium Hatchback, I've had to waste a lot of my time on the phone with Ford's customer support re-explaining my situation, at Ford service centers, with rental cars (plus paying the rental car insurance fee), and of course the process is still on pause and I have no idea if Ford will stand by their product and honor their warranty.

A Regional Customer Service Representative was supposed to contact me by 5PM today, but this did not happen. This was Strike 3 folks... Ford Service Center had my car until today, but the parts they require to fix an oil leak, which is just one of the problems with my car, is back ordered until August. I was told that they may have to replace my clutch for a second time because of a oil leak that's been causing it to slip, but they won't know the full story until they "get in there" and see what's going on with the transmission... So, Including a recall, and the first clutch replacement during the last two years, this would be the third transmission related "fix" performed on this 2-year-old vehicle that only has about 26,000 miles on it. Sounds pretty lame and lemony to me!

I've lost my faith in Ford... I lived in NYC for 10 years without a vehicle, and when I was thinking of leaving NYC, I decided to give Ford a chance because their new cars looked so impressive and I wanted to buy American! What a major disappointment! I was the first person in my family to stray from Chrysler since the 60's... I saved up money for a year, and paid almost $26,000 cash for my new car and drove it out West a few months later... Since the beginning, the transmission has been wonky. It's definitely a design flaw. They know, I know it, and the thousands of people that have filed Lemon-law cases against Ford, for the same reasons know it.

It's like it doesn't want to shift and then you feel a big hesitation, and then it will kick in, or just bogs down altogether. Sometimes these transmission misfires happen on the highway at very high speeds and it's SUPER DANGEROUS because you can't count on the car to react properly during quick maneuvers. The car still rolls backwards on hills at times, even after a recall fix. The shifting is just not right, beyond whatever standardized response FORD tells us about a hybrid/dual-clutch transmission, that sometimes lets you feel those shifts. FORD says that the driver does feel a little bit of roughness and maybe jerkiness because you're just going directly from one gear to another... Regardless of their reasoning, it's complete nonsense, because it's worse now than ever. The transmission is lame and FORD needs to correct this situation before they have major problems like GM!

We HAD a 2012 Ford focus hatchback. When we first got the car there was chips in the paint and chips in the windshield, along with a scratch on the bumper. We were told that it would be taken care of. The chips in both the hood and windshield were not done, and just the bumper replaced. We mentioned this in a phone call and was told they would look into it. Nothing was done, nor did we ever hear back. Needless to say the windshield got a larger crack in it and paint was flaking like no tomorrow.

Next was our service appointments, we bought a bunch of warranties including one that gave us the choice of oil, of course my husband being a mechanic himself wanted the best, they refused and gave us the cheap brand. On another occasion our car was in the shop and we were given a rental car. Ford needed the rental back and offered to drive our car to our house to switch the vehicles since my husband worked during the hours of operation of the rental place. The Ford employee showed up at the house and we traded keys and he left, when my husband arrived he looked over the car and there was a huge gash in the tire that had bent part of the rim..... On another occasion my husband was getting our 2 year old daughter in her car seat getting ready to go out. The focus was a standard that did not have a self starter remote just basic key less entry. Also the car keys were in his pocket not the ignition. The car started on its own and began to roll forward toward our house almost crashing into the closed garage door. When we told ford of the incident they basically laughed at us and told us we made it up, great customer services skills guys.

A few months later we started having front end issues where the car just had little power, you could press the gas pedal to the floor and it wouldn’t go over 50km/h, when we brought it to ford they said they would look at it for us. They had our main vehicle for a few days, and refused us a rental. We returned our car, they said it was because of the floor mat and charged is $200 for a front end inspection. After this the car was parked all winter, we didn’t trust it enough to risk our lives driving it in the winter weather.

When summer finally came we took it for a drive again and the problem seemed to go away on its own, after a few weeks of driving it started to happen again. So my husband took out the floor mat, the problem remained. My husband then pulled over to put the camera on his phone to show ford what was happening, their service guy immediately said "it’s cause your not in gear" without even watching the video. My husband explained it was because he wasn't gonna start up the camera while driving and was pulled over, and insisted that he watch it. He did. We sat at Ford for 4 1/2hrs with our two year old waiting. Before we gave the car to the service department my husband asked if he could take a look under it, he'd gladly sign a waiver if needed. 4 hours of waiting and we are told our car is ready to go and nothing was wrong with it, my husband replied "but i haven’t seen under it," the employee then walks away.

20 min later the service manager walks in, in a very rude and angry tone asks my husband if he’s the guy that wants to see his car, he replies "yes i am." Within 30 seconds of looking under the car my husband find the problem and asked why they said it was fine. I wasn’t present for this part but was told that they got into a slight argument over it. The service department had already printed up a bill for us for the front end inspection, we would’ve been wrongfully charged a second time. After this we had enough of the rude service from ford, exhausted from not eating breakfast and waiting at ford for so long we found the energy to go to dodge and trade in our car for a dodge ram, ending the annoyance with this focus once and for all.

Oh I’d like to add that we originally went into ford to purchase an f-150. They printed up paper work for the total estimate and let us test drive it, we loved it. Then it was swept from under us, we were told we could only get a focus or fusion. Not happy at all with ford and will not be going back there ever again. My husband and i were die hard ford fans, and it didn’t take much after our experiences with ford to leave the company for their competitors.

The car violently lurched forward into the street and lost all power, same as before. Only by the grace of GOD were we not killed in this incident. It is now back in the shop awaiting a TCM. From what I have read online it's still not going to make this car safe to drive. I HATE this car. There are NUMEROUS complaints about this very thing yet nothing is being done. RIDICULOUS! People should not have to die first. This car is junk.

2014 Ford Focus SE - We bought this car at the end of July 2013 at Ridgehill Ford in Cambridge ON. When we were looking at the Fiesta originally (same tranny as focus) we told the salesman that we wanted an automatic. We stated that the car will "mainly" be for myself and my daughter who is learning to drive. My husband does drive it on the weekends to let his gas pig rest. We purchased the Focus over the Fiesta as it is a bit roomier. At NO TIME did the salesman EVER explain the transmission and how it works. If he had we would have upgraded to a Fusion with a "normal" tranny. If I wanted a car that drove like a standard we would have purchased a standard. We have had it in the shop probably every five or six weeks for one issue or another. The car drives horribly. It lurches and jerks and misses gears and feels like it is going to stall all the time. Yesterday it felt like it missed two gears and went into overdrive. I thought I was going to go through the window. It has been in the shop 6 or 7 times for transmission and computer reset which never helps.

About a month after we purchased the car we had to have a new AC system installed. We had to have a new clutch pack installed. At the end of the winter (where I froze half the time cuz the heat wasn't "hot") we took it in and was told the heat works fine but I think the car should warm up in a relatively shorter time than an hour. Last week while on vacation in another province after using the AC for the drive, my husband was offloading the car and picked a bag up off the floor on the passenger side rear and the bag was dripping. It was sitting about 3 inches of water. We have gone to the dealership countless times to see if we can get out of this car and they have NO desire to help us at all. They got what they wanted, our money. The lady in the service department is nice and I feel bad for her but this car is a P.O.S. and I'm sure she is tired of seeing us. We had to wait four days to get it in to be repaired as the serviceman on call that day said they have far too many cars in for repair. Shocker.

I honestly don't feel safe letting my daughter drive this car. Hell, I don't feel safe driving this car. This is my first Ford and it will be my last ford. Guaranteed. My husband who has had Fords (from that dealership) is fed up and at his wits end. I can't recommend Ridgehill Ford at all. Although the service department is attentive the sales area and management suck. Big time. Every time we go in they hum and haw and say what they feel they need to to pacify us. They even claimed that they called Ford and put in a complaint for us. We were told to expect a call from Ford Canada in the "next two weeks". Of course no call ever came.

I have read many complaints about the 2012-2013 Ford Focus. Like many, I had problems with my car from the purchase date. I kept taking it back to dealership and other mechanics complaining about transmission being sluggish and not shifting properly. Also complained about the steering being tight and hard to maintain, I now have a shoulder problem from steering difficulties. Mechanics even told me the car adjusted to my driving (like I was driving it wrong). Then they said it was due for a transmission update.

The car drove fine for a couple of months, then I started having problems with the ignition. I would turn the key, there would be a delay before it would crank, that worsened to longer delay and a clicking noise. I took the car back to shop, they said everything checked out fine but I needed a new battery. I bought a new battery, went to crank my car to leave and still a delay. I went right back in to the shop and asked the mechanic to come outside, so I could show him what I was talking about. I was told the My-Key feature had to have time to initialize and confirm because the key is programmed to the car.

Three days later, the transmission control module went out while I was sitting at a red light, (luckily) I was not in moving traffic. This manufacturing defect could have resulted in a wreck, injuring myself and others. I contacted Ford Motor Company as there is a nationwide recall on this particular part. I was told my vin number was not attached to this recall and warranty has expired, they are not going to assist with repairs. Customer service SUPERVISOR also informed me because of nationwide recall, this part is on back order and could give an estimated date of availability for delivery. I run a route for my occupation and I am having to borrow a vehicle (which is a 4-wheel drive diesel truck).

Not only am I making payments on a car I cannot drive but tripling my cost in fuel. It is obvious Ford is not going to do the right thing without legal assistance. I bought this car in good faith, because it is vital that I have a dependable vehicle with the work I do. Even if and when this car is drivable again, I am scared of what else will happen while driving it. Ford needs to look at the broad spectrum of how the safety of many innocent people are at risk. I have contacted an attorney, but I would like to know what other avenues are available to resolve this matter. I am ready and willing to jump aboard any boat as long as is destination Lawsuit.

Come on Ford, admit you made a mistake with this tranny.

I paid over $26000 for this car and having read other people's tales about this car, I know one day it's going to let me down. Ford, you have to solve this problem. Your reputation is seriously at stake. You have made good vehicles in the past. This one is going to bankrupt you if you don't do anything. If I could choose again I would have gone for my previous choice which was a Hyundai Elantra but I chose the Ford Focus because I liked the neat features. I worked around that by shifting into first, then into reverse, which seemed to work most times. Now I just back into my driveway so I don't have to deal with reverse in the mornings when it's cold. Then came the sticking gears, especially when it's cold. It sticks worst in first, so sometimes I just skip first at stops and stay in second. Pain in the butt. Now the accelerator sticks whenever it decides, but usually when I am going up a hill and I actually need gas to make it up the hill. Funny how that works. What happened to when they made cars that actually worked and you didn't have to be panicked whenever you had to drive somewhere?

I brought it again because it jerks all the time after slowing down or coming to a stop; going up hill when you take your foot off the brake it rolls back. The dealer told me there was no leak and they claim they rode it around and there is nothing they can do, it's the trans and that how it works. Well, there is something I can do, never buy another Ford. My friends have Ford Focus and Fiesta, also will never buy from Ford again. Ford should have handed us this piece of paper before we bought the cars, then maybe we would have reconsidered spending $18,000 to $21,000 on that vehicle and upgraded to a Fusion for a few more $1,000.

Fortunately, at the time, I lived in California. There are strict consumer protection laws there and after the car almost killed me, due to the mechanics trapping the ignition wire between the engine and transmission. The car locked up at 70 MPH and ruined the drive line and front wheel bearings. I called the Ford complaint line and they kept a record of my calls/complaint

The dealer (Sunland Ford, Victorville, Ca) was as nasty and inept as they come, but when I put a tape recorder in the car and recorded the noises on what was by then a junk vehicle, the Consumer board in California awarded me a full refund! I bought a new Focus approximately 6 months ago and it has never run right. It has only 4,000 miles on it. The transmission grinds and sounds terrible, and the car lurches whenever stopped at a light or stop sign. I have had it in Ford's repair shop more than once and, even though the mechanics know that this is a problem with these cars, (they might get it to run for a couple of weeks or so without issue and then the problem comes back) and the dealership will not make good on the fact that this car hasn't been right since the day I bought it, the only thing the dealership/Ford will do "for me" is buy it back at the depreciated value, which leaves me upside down on the loan by several thousand dollars.

Apparently, the Ford Focus (auto transmission model) is mechanically-faulty and has had major issues with the transmission system for a long time. Looking this up on the internet, I found that this mechanical problem has been happening to many many people who own one, but obviously, Ford doesn't care. People have been told that they are "driving it wrong (!)" or "yes, we know about this but all we can do for you is to buy it back." And let's face it, why should the Ford Company admit their wrong doing or recall these cars? They get the original purchase price and are getting the car back for several thousands of dollars less (whereupon they will probably sell it again to some poor unsuspecting consumer who will no doubt experience the same issues with it, creating a vicious circle). Buying the car back and then adding the amount depreciated to another loan ("we'll do you a huge favor by buying this car back and you can roll the upside-down amount onto another loan if you buy this different Ford car from us"), means that they are making tons of money off of these cars in a manner that I feel is dishonest.

While checking into this mechanical problem, I found that it looks like a class-action suit may be in the works in Pennsylvania. However, this does nothing to help me or the other unsuspecting consumers who get taken by this obvious scam. I was led to believe that Ford was really trying to become one of the forerunners in auto sales and valued customer satisfaction. Apparently, all they care about is getting the most money out of their customers while taking them for "a ride" (pun intended).

The Lemon Law would most probably go into effect eventually with this car, but besides the fact that pursuing this avenue would take a great deal of time and effort, it would also mean that I would be stuck with another Focus with possibly the same problem in the end as well as have to put up with a undependable car in the meantime that keeps costing me time and money.

With only 15,000 miles, my car started to falter when switching between 2rd and 3rd gears while accelerating. The sensation was similar to the gear switching that happens when (while driving with a manual transmission) switching between gears and not giving the car quite enough gas. Halting. When this happens, acceleration seems to be tempered too, so I can't quickly accelerate to ensure I'm not hovering in the speed range where the switching of gears happens.

I took the car to the local Ford dealership where they replaced parts on the transmission control box (I'm not sure what the correct name is) and the car has not been fixed. The same halting occurs. I emailed Ford and a customer service manager emailed me back saying that some of this is to be expected with the transmission type. I will be taking the car back to the dealership this week to presumably replace the transmission parts again. For reference, here is the email I received from the CSM at Ford:

"The computer was reset and it will need to relearn which may take up to several months before it adjusts to your driving. There are known concerns with this vehicle because of the unique transmission. The transmission is an automatic transmission but acts like a manual transmission. When the vehicle shifts, you will feel the shift. If this is a new concern with the vehicle your next step is to take the vehicle back to the dealer to have the issue addressed. The current technical service bulletin has been completed on your vehicle which should have resolved your past concern. Please let me know if you plan to take it back to the dealer and if so I will be happy to schedule the appointment for you."

It was also stalling if I would stop and then start driving again. They checked the unit at Caguas Expressway Motors and found nothing supposedly. Mind you this was after 2 weeks of having my car in their hands. So they gave me my car back. Still had the same problems. Kept driving it and just thought it was me being too picky. Drove it like this until February of this year and took it for check-up to a different service center, reported the same problems and they found the problems I was complaining about. They had to change the clutch in the transmission and the front axles.

Well guess what, I've had my car back for a little over a month and the front axles are again messed up so I have to take my car back for service next week and be without a car for another week, hopefully not longer than that. I haven't had any problems with the transmission after they changed the clutch though and hopefully I won't have them for a while. The reason why I bought a new car was because I was tired of having to take my cars to the mechanic and not having a reliable means of transportation. I really loved my new car at first, it's pretty comfortable considering the size of if but these mechanical problems don't make it any more reliable than a used car.

I begin to hear this horrible sound when my car shifted from one gear to another along with not wanting to accelerate at stop signs, red lights, etc, came close to having a serious rear end collision due to the fact that I could not even move and everyone behind me had, so the first trip I was told "Oh, that's the characteristics to that transmission, and you will have to get used to it."

Following day, I decided to contact another local dealership who informed me to bring in it to be checked out. It spent the next week in the garage with a total replacement of clutches, seals, etc. Drove good for 2 weeks after, then the noise returned along with not wanting to move on takeoff. Returned it again this week to be told again, "This is the characteristics of this car and get used to it." Technician stated "Ford knows these issues but has not to this date decided what they want us to do to correct it". Picked up car yesterday, instructed to drive for rest of week after they so called "burned the green off the clutches"????? So needless to say, I am now back driving it and so far so good. The test will be when I get into traffic and have to stop and go. I am beyond upset at this, not sure what to do? What is everyone else doing?

The car has never ran right since, this car is a death trap, I have had it in the shop in Lexington Kentucky, Gary Smith Ford, Tom Wood Ford, Ford in Atlanta, Don Hines Ford for the same issues. The comments you get from employees: it's got inherent problems, and this is from Management. I have met several employees who are apologetic for this car, Ford Focus sales are down for a reason. I went all the way to the CEO and he gives it to a secretary to deal with, though she was the only one who tried to fix this issue, in the end she did nothing. I was even told that the consumer was to be told about the operating system in this car, but was never told anything. It's all about units not loyal customers. My goal is to be heard, and to help all the other Ford owners who are being deceived and lied to about the Ford Focus! I would like to start a class action lawsuit . And feel that if everyone gets on board, Ford will pay attention.

I have had an issue with this vehicle since the first month at 300 miles. It had a lot of hesitation and just not very consistent. When I took the vehicle to get the car checked out, they responded with...It's a new car and that it would be self-adjusting according to my driving for the first month or two. I disregarded the issues reluctantly and continued to drive the vehicle. That was my first mistake. From there, the hesitation became stalling and gear problems. Stalling at least once a month.

The gears were not properly linked. When I had my car in park, it would move forward. Then, when I had my car in reverse, then put into drive, my car would still be operating as if it was in reverse. I thought while backing out of parking lot one day, that I was going to hit the car behind me. At a moment later, the vehicle stalled. That was at 48,000 miles.

I called a tow truck and insisted that Ford take a close examination of this vehicle. So, the Ford Dealership has had my vehicle for 4 days. They don't know what is wrong with the vehicle. Advise my brother (mechanic) told me was to get a print-out showing all Transmission and Engine information. Those reports are called the ECU and TCM and ask for the hits. The dealership will see when the car had not performed. If they cannot fix any problem that appears on that report, talk to the manufacturer.

I'll go for a second attempt at another Ford Dealer before addressing with manufacturer. The issues for stalling may have something to do with: Speed Sensor, Fuel Rails, Timing, Throddel Response or Throddel Position Sensor (TPS). For the Gears: Gear Linkage, Transmission, Harness. I'm hoping to get somewhere with this tomorrow....fingers crossed! Oh, and the 40 MPG is a joke. I'm running an average of 22 MPH. That is mostly highway. I am an older driver and consider myself to be conservative in speed with zero tickets in over 10 years.

Around the door of my 2013 Ford Focus (less than 5,000 miles) there is a rubber seal. This rubber has become torn. The problem as I was told by the Williamsburg Ford Dealership is when I get in and out my wallet tears this rubber. Because this is caused by me getting in and out of the car, the dealership will not honor my warranty. I have also surfaced this issue with Ford Motor Company and they decided it was from "outside interference" (normal use by getting in and out of the car) and would not stand by their warranty. I contend this is a design flaw. It was caused by my wallet while I was entering and exiting the vehicle. It was not from intentional or willful damage. It was not from "outside interference" which would mean someone or something was rubbed against it intentionally.

I bought a 2007 ford focus brand new and have had no real problems until it reach 59,600 or so miles. In May 2013 I was driving and my car started lurching at the speed between 20 and forty (somewhere in first gear), the overdrive light came on. It never did it again until a month later--it was so bad and racing that I had it towed. Once the dealer tested it, it failed to act up so they guessed after 3 weeks and put in a solenoid for first gear in transmission. Car was fine but I would still notice a weird hesitation sometimes at take off up until 40 miles an hour. I also had to repace a few other things so that repair was a $500 bill.

No problems really until November 2013, this time check engine light came on and was really lurching etc. The dealer was able to diagnose it and it was first gear AGAIN but under warranty and they put in another solenoid for second gear. Cost $40 and got car back...................well day after I was going up steep hill lost power......towed back to dealer. It was now third gear and clutch (really!) Automatic car.....After 2 months I have my car back and well it runs better but I have notice that sitting in cold and I start driving, it does that loss of power thing when I put my foot on the accelerator but then it is fine after it warms up BUT THE CAR is shifting ok and no lights coming on. I plan on getting a new car very soon but I need this at least till the fall but we will see. I have no real faith in the car and don't trust it anymore for long trips. They are great cars but once they hit 60,000, beware.

In February 2013, my husband and I purchased a 2013 Ford Focus from Brewster Ford in NY. Unfortunately, our car has never worked correctly. It randomly loses power. It feels like the gas pedal doesn't respond sometimes when we try to accelerate. Our car is currently in their service center for the 4th attempt to repair the problem without any intervention. Three of the master mechanics say they have driven the car multiple times without repairing anything because they claim that they cannot recreate the problem.

May 28, 2013 the hesitation and non-responsive acceleration increased and we brought our car to the service center and paid for an oil change. We were given the car back and told there was no problem found. June 14, 2013 we brought the car back to the dealer for the same problem. There was an update for the computer and we thought it might be fixed. December 9, 2013 we came back to the service center for the same problem, but this time the car shut off while my husband was driving on the NYS Thruway and this time the check engine light was on when I dropped it off. Again the car was given back and we were told no problem found. They said that the check engine light was not on. It had been on for two days prior.

December 18, 2013 we brought our car back to the service center. After we called Ford Corporate for help, the service manager got involved. The gas mileage dropped at this time from 32-27 miles/gallon combined. Our car was at Brewster Ford's service center for over 30 days without being contacted once. When my husband called to check on the status, he was told they were waiting on a service engineer to come out. After speaking to the regional manager from Ford, we were told that the service center is unable to recreate the problem and we should again take our unsafe car.

We have been dealing with the regional service manager from Ford and today she told me that they will approve our car to get a second opinion from another Ford service center. The problem is that they can't fix our car without check engine codes but the check engine light doesn't come on.

I have 2013 Ford Focus SE. I don't have a bit of problems with my transmission, yea it was a little funky at first to get used to driving it. But you know what, these transmissions have a learning curve, just as we do!! I think it's a fun car to drive. Seeing as how I can put it in "S" and get the manual shift. Now mind you, my driving style does vary. There are days that I, take it easy so to speak, and most days I drive it pretty hard. The car is sluggish at low rpms and speed, ( it's a 4 cylinder)!! You're getting most of your power from around 3500 rpms on u!

With that being said, that's when I put the car in "Manual Shift" mode! That way I can shift it, when I want to, in order to get up to a good speed at lower rpms and slow speeds. Then when I get to where I need to be, in terms of speed, I move the gear selector back into "D", then go on about my day!! Why not utilize all of your power, you're still getting good fuel economy, at least I am. The way I see it, the car has a warranty! Now I don't purposely abuse my car, but if something goes wrong, it goes to the dealership for warranty work!! "In order to tame the machine, you first must become the machine."

I purchased a brand new 2013 model Ford Focus in January 2013. The car has exhibited various mechanical characteristics that I believe are unsafe including:

SAFETY CONCERNS: 1. I understand that the steering on this car is electronic, but it is dangerous! In the year that I have owned the car, I have had numerous close calls because the steering is affected by wind, road tilt, road surface and most importantly hand pressure. This car can not be steered properly with one's hand at the bottom or top of the steering wheel - you must keep both hands on the wheel in the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions at all times in order to smooth out the sensitivity of the steering program. Additionally, the steering interprets minor inputs as large inputs at higher speeds. Be careful when you change lanes on the interstate. I was actually given a ticket for "whipping over" into another lane.

    2. Deceleration - If you are used to taking your foot off the accelerator while you check your blind spot before changing lanes, BE CAREFUL - the car will not decelerate like other cars and when you return from checking your blind spot you will find yourself MUCH closer to the vehicle you are intending to pass, so close that I felt as though I had narrowly escaped an accident on at least two occasions.

MECHANICAL CONCERNS: 1. Unpredictable take off - sometimes it accelerates smoothly with power appropriate to pedal pressure and sometimes it lurches with such force that I think it will stall. In such cases, the loss of power is significant enough to allow approaching traffic to gain enough distance that I am no longer comfortable pulling out, but do so anyway because I am already in the street.

    2. Rolling start lurching - the car seems to be much happier making a complete stop rather than a slow rolling stop as the latter almost always produce the powerful jerking motions; even my daughter and her friends have been moved to say "WHAT WAS THAT?!" thinking that I hit something. 3. Rattling/Buzzing - the car produces numerous annoying sounds, some of which sound internally mechanical while others sound like poor spacial tolerance between items. 4. Brake rust - even when brand new, the brake rotors would be covered with completely opaque bright red-orange rust the day after a good rain. The grinding sound of the first few uses as the rust is ground off is quite shocking (until I got used to it).

GENERAL QUALITY CONCERNS: 1. The light mesh fabric used in the back deck is one of the most fragile materials I have ever seen in a car - it was torn and sucked up by a small powered shop vac as I tried to get some insects out of the poorly designed steep incline where the window meets the deck. 2. The carpet is the worst carpet I have ever seen in an automobile, it is more like velcro (actually, it might be velcro) - small pieces of grass and the like are pulled down into the carpet where they become hooked by the fibers; vacuuming this car is a nightmare - it takes forever as the particles seems to work their way further into the fibers with each pass... I think the carpet is actually like that used on some boats.

I have numerous other complaints about the car, but this is beginning to not be worth my time. I just hope it saves someone else the experience of having financed a car that will never, ever be worth your payoff. This is the kind of vehicle that spawned the phrase "upside down".

I have 2013 Focus hatchback with the 6-speed auto. Quite simply the transmission is awful! I'm an engineer by education (Bachelors & Masters) and by trade and there is not another car that I'm aware of that has ever operated by design to shudder, lurch, hesitate and clank like this transmission does. Its on its 3rd trip to the dealer service to see what they'll do, but I'm skeptical they are wiling or able to fix it. When the regional CSM tells me that shuddering after gear shifts, the occasional clanking metal sound and the hesitation are normal, uh.. Houston we have a problem.. a big, big, big problem!

I've been driving for 36 years and this is the worst car to drive I have ever had. I test drove it... and it seemed fine. It actually drove okay for the first 5,000 miles... but ever since the shudders, hesitation are much worse and the clanking has started. The TSB application did nothing on trip 1... Trip 2 they drove it exactly 1 mile and pronounced it fine... and now trip 3 is with another service center. We'll see... but its just unfathomable that FORD, where Quality is supposed job #1, would keep putting these transmissions in these cars. The frequent hesitation during acceleration is unsafe, the shuddering after gear shifts is painfully discomforting, and the frequent metal clanking sound is just disquieting.

Even after that the car was terrible and not smooth. All the Ford adviser says the same thing - it's a dual dry clutch and it's the way it drives! They must be reading the same manual. Early this year I took it back and they replaced the transmission. Now it's been 6 10 months and the problem still exist.

My daughter who started driving this year even notice the problem when the cars shuddered making a left turn and almost stalled. It's more noticeable during the summer when it's warm or when the car has been running for some time. I have made another appointment and they have a new updated clutch that will be replace in January 2014. If this does not work then it will be my lawyer calling them next. I am hoping that this takes care of any problems. I wanted to update the status of my Focus, as I felt that was the fair and right thing to do.

I give the dealership credit for getting this right. I am hoping any other problems others are having get the same fair treatment that I received from the Ford dealer in Storm Lake, IA. Maybe the other dealers might want to check out the clutch, and not just the tranny. I noticed it when I reversed it, to park and in heavy traffic. Felt as if I was driving a stick shift (I don't know how to drive stick). Took it in to a dealer (not where I bought it) closer to work and said it was the "oil" needed to be change. So it was - under warranty. Felt okay for a while. In Oct. first week, it started up again. I took it to where I bought the car. It needed a "part" so I used a rental for 3 weeks - it drove nice.

However when I got my car back - I was told - I now have a "smart motor", it will get used to the way I drive?? I am sure all cars get used to their driver or driver to their cars. Why do I have to pay for something that should of been taken care of ~ "again new" -- Do I really have to pay for a car part they "okay" and should be under warranty from when I bought the car????

I bought my 2013 Ford Focus in Nov. 2012. Early in 2013 I noticed uneven shifting, and jerking. I finally took it to the dealer, and it was mentioned that there was a problem. I asked if there was a recall, and I was told, "No". They did some adjusting but the problem returned shortly after I got the car back. This has been on-going for months now. As of Oct. 2, 2013, my pretty little Ford Focus (nicknamed Snowflake) has been sitting at the dealer in the shop. Then it sits outside, then it is back inside, then it is outside....again. Now it is 'gone', I assume back in the shop. It is now Nov. 3, 2013. I have had a loaner car, (C-Max) which drives like a dream, shifts so quietly you can hardly feel it.

I have talked to several other Ford dealers, and they said they have had no problems with any transmission/shifting problems. I told the service tech that if that car has one jolt, jerk, or uneven shifting problems when I get it back, it is coming right back to the dealer and they had better get Ford motor company to take that car back and make it right with me. I have to commend the guys at the dealer, as they have been very considerate with the problem. Gotta give 'em credit.

I don't even feel like I have a Focus anymore, The C-Max (which I named simply "Max") feels more like my car than the Focus. I honestly don't feel like my Focus is a repairable car. I was told when I called a few weeks ago after I took it in again, that the vibration had gotten worse. I am trying to be patient, but when I write my next car payment, I feel like I'm paying for a dead horse. I am very discouraged, and I get down because of this. Again, the car revved into high RPM but did not move. By this point, I was at the bottom of the driveway. On the third attempt, the car shot forward back into gear and up the hill. Lucky for me, there weren't any old ladies, or garage sides nearby. When I brought it in to be looked at, same story, propaganda printout about how it's normal, and the service tech proceeded to tell me that what I thought was dangerous, was actually just normal performance. Funny this is my fourth car, and the only automatic transmission that does this. I get that the shuddering is normal for a DCT, but falling out of gear? Give me a break. In addition to transmission-related grinding, shuddering and halting described by virtually every other reviewer, I have experienced the following problems: At 5,500 miles, the "body control module" failed, resulting in loss of instruments, headlamps, tail lights, turn signals, etc. The car was, of course, not road worthy, and required 3 days of repairs. At 9,000 miles, "audio control module" failed, requiring two days of repairs. The vehicle's electrical system is still not quite right; occasionally a "shorting" sound can be heard from the instrument cluster. This sound is very audible and, in light of past experience, unsettling. More recently, at 26,000 miles, a rear bearing required replacing. This repair took 2.5 days. Finally, a clutch requires replacing. The part is on back order, and the repair will ultimately take another 2.5 days. So, in summary, in 26,000 miles, my 2012 Ford Focus has required 4 major, unrelated repairs and a dozen trips to the dealership (for diagnosis as well as repair). The conclusion that this vehicle is substandard in many respects is unavoidable. Car buyers should unquestionably avoid this vehicle, and Ford should be compelled to make owners whole (i.e., sign me up for any class action).

I bought my 2012 Ford Focus a year ago. Around 8,000 miles, starting noticing major rolling issues on even a slight incline. Now I have to gun it just to get up a hill and it doesn't like going into gear. In July 2013, it started hesitating, vibrating and stuttering - just like everyone else on the website when going from a stop. Almost got into an accident a month ago trying to merge from on ramp into traffic on highway - it wouldn't shift into gear. It was terrifying - the car was hesitating while I had my foot on the gas. It started shaking so bad I was sure it was going to stall (it didn't). This is a daily occurrence, especially in the city.

It had the transmission recall visit in August and that made it worse. We took it to another dealership and they gave us a piece of paper saying this is normal - there was nothing they could do and pretty much get used to it. The Ford Customer Service people pretty much said the same thing. Of course, this is not normal. I hate driving this car - I'm afraid of driving this car.Not sure if everyone knows you can file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). If they get enough complaints they will look into the matter - the phone is 1-888-327-4236 or you can fill a complaint out online. If everyone bands together maybe we can make a difference.

I will never buy a Ford again and I'm telling everyone I can about this. If this is the way the transmission is, why didn't it happen the first 8,000 miles? Something is major wrong with this transmission and someone is going to get really hurt from what's happening or worse. I filed a complaint yesterday - sounds like they are already aware of the problem but probably don't have enough consumers telling them about it to do anything. Hope this helps someone out there. I hate that I'm stuck with a new car I feel unsafe in and Ford is doing nothing about it. There must be 1,000s of us out there.

Just posting on here to justify things people are complaining about (excluding the 2012 Focus, total trash) test drove one and my 2003 is more peppy. Anyhow a lot of the common issues is the ignition sticking and alternators go bad with these models. If you have AAA, just call them and they'll replace your ignition. Of course they will only replace it if the car doesn't start (replaced mine once). Just jiggle your steering wheel and turn your key, should get it out.

Also my back window switches don't work and passenger switch only goes up. Driver controls work fine though. Come on people this is common for cars to go out. No need to complain. Same goes for the car vibrating. If you only use your car for short trips, example 5-10 mins, obviously the car is going to ride rough. Doing this repeatedly over time will wear the motor mounts (excluding the 2012's). Advice for people buying a 2012 Focus, don't buy one. Buy a used 2003-2007 Focus. Best years, also if you can get them manual, fun cars to drive!

Another note stay away from the 2000-2002 some of those models had the Split port injection engines (SPI). Stay away from those, over time the cylinder heads will break. Overall this car has been a charm, only needed to replace alternator, ignition, driver window motor, and motor mounts. This car has 54k miles. I'm the original owner and this car only sees city driving 5-10 min trips, sometimes as little as 3 mins. Just make sure to do your maintenance, Fords need a lot of TLC, on the other hand my Toyota is a **.

The 1st week the car vibrating while driving at stop sign and a/c and heater is on. The dealer stated that was problem with those car, that I wasn't the only customer complaints. Also when I took it to 1st time service they told me the same thing, and service person said but it's good car. I took it again. They reprogrammed the transmission. The car is worst; my gas mileage is less. The dealer don't care that business.

Well, I'm really depressed now. 2 weeks ago I went in to the dealer and loved the look of the Focus. I drove it and I really liked it and the gas mileage I was going to get. Little did I know that 24 hours later I had to take it back to the dealer because when I took off from a stop, the front end was shuddering and acted like it didn't want to take off. They wouldn't tell me anything but they had to order a part and it would be a couple of days. Well here it is two weeks later and I still don't have my car back and it's still sitting in the same spot on the lot. They keep telling me the parts truck hasn't come in.

I had my son call them and they told him that it was the transmission and it would have to be taken apart and a new part put in it. Today I was surfing the web about Focus and found this website of all these other people having the same problem with the transmission. Guess it's lawyer time, though not sure what he can do since all the paperwork has been signed and transferred. Any advice out there would be appreciated. This is a 2012 Focus and only had 26000 miles on it. I wished I would have seen this site before I bought a Ford.

It slips backwards on hills, it shudders when accelerating out of a stop, and at speeds over 40 miles the transmission slips, causing a hazardous situation on the freeway and in traffic. I was told it was under warranty, but when I took it to the dealer, they said they could not get the car to duplicate the problem, so could not fix it.

Bought a Focus in July of 2012. It has been to 2 different dealers 5 times for shudder, shake, stall, bucking, and bolting after not taking off when you mash gas pedal. All I'm told is that there is nothing wrong with car. After getting it back yesterday, Heather at Ford customer service complaint dept told my wife, "You're just going to have to live with the way it drives. It's just the trait of that transmission." We were not told the vehicle would drive like a twenty year old worn out vehicle before we bought it. I've been driving and buying Fords for 50 years, but there will not be another one bought. It's time for a lawyer to get involved since Ford thinks I'm stupid for thinking I don't know a good car from a bad one.

My key ignition has always stuck or not turned over. The cylinder gets stuck and locked; you have to push and pull the key out. It does not always start after several attempts. Online forums show this is a common issue with Ford Focus 2000-2003, yet people have to pay and have even replaced more than once at $500.00 a pop in less than six years. These need a recall seriously fast. I can't afford something I am not responsible for.

The dealer Arlington Hts. Ford insists it's a sync problem, but I'm thinking it's an electrical problem. Sometimes I can't get my lights on. I have to turn the car off and open the door and then restart the car so the lights will work again. Sometimes it's the radio or the the setting that I have in the back up camera, the rear parking aid will be visible when I'm driving at highway speeds. The gas mileage has dropped from 39 highway to 29.

I just never know what I'll find after I start my car. The transmission parts that were on back order are now in and the car is back in the shop. I would suggest that the transmission should be a recall item. Internally, there is an oil leak, and the oil gets on the clutch plate and causes it to slip and chatter in low gear. This may be why the gas mileage has shrunk by 10 MPG.

I own a 2012 Ford Focus. I have a VIP service through Ford. Every time I take my car to have the oil changed and the tires rotated, they never put air in my tires and they leave the stems off of my tires. I took my car in for recalls. There was a recall for the wiper wires. My wipers worked before the recall and now they don't. I took the car back and they tell me they can't find anything wrong. The wipers only work on the intermittent cycle. No one return phone calls; not even the service manager.

I am at my wit's end. So now, I am going to have to take my car to another location just to see if I can get the wipers fixed. I put in a complaint to the Ford customer service dept. and am waiting for a response. I have been treated very shabbily by a major dealership. My car is brand new and now my wipers don't work correctly. This is a brief list of what has happened to me in the last 2 weeks dealing with Sheehy Ford. I bought a 2012 Ford Focus in July 2011. At first, it seemed to be a good car then it started falling apart. They had a recall on the windshield wiper motor then one on the transmission, which really started messing up after the dealership did adjustments on it. The car rolls back on hills and makes flapping noises. Also, at times it starts and stops like it's not getting gas. I believe in NC, they have a class action suit against Ford for what they call "limp along home." This could result in a wreck and is also kind of frightening. But of course the dealership can find nothing wrong with the car. The list price on this car was $22,000 - definitely not worth it. I have had it at two dealerships for transmission. Three times, I also contacted Ford Customer Service. I was told that Ford realizes there is a problem with the transmission, which by the way is a six-speed manual that has been altered to be an automatic. How stupid is that? But they have no solution to the problem so I guess I'm stuck with a $22,000 piece of poor American craftsmanship.

No wonder Ford is a failing business after all when you sell junk, you become junk. Now, I understand the old saying found on Roadside Dead, fix or repair daily because it definitely describes my car. Never buy another Ford. No respect for their customers or they would not continue manufacturing such poor quality automobiles.

I bought this car, 2012 Ford Focus, brand new in July 2012. Immediately I noticed the transmission was awful - jumpy, grinding, sputtering, popping, bouncing, unresponsive at other times. Just as thought, I was driving a manual and didn't know how. Passengers in the car would bounce around and jerk forward in response. I also noticed this horrible grinding noise in the lower gears as though something was rattling and about to fall out from under the car in the lower gear (all the way to the 4th gear) - especially noticeable on hills and left-hand turns. I called the dealership. The salesman said I had to let the car smooth out and drive it a few 1,000 miles.

Months later, it smoothed out some, but the grinding was always there. It made me feel like I was driving a used and beat up old car. Also, my gas mileage never got above 30mpg on the highway. Never. I had the grinding and the poor pick-up performance left from taking the time to "smooth out" my transmission. Irritated, I decided to drive in the Select mode to improve performance. The grinding was still there even in Select. After a day, I returned to Auto and the jumping from the first few days returned. This was months later and several 1,000 miles later. This time, all the original problems were present but a new one surfaced - shuddering up hills and that incessant grinding. I took it to the dealer and they said they replaced a clutch and seal.

Now, the car shudders in all low gears and the grinding is still there. I took the car back and they told me I had to put another 2,000 miles on the new clutch. I'm waiting out one more 1,000 miles to take it back for the shuddering, but returning it for the grinding this week. Trying to get it documented properly for a lemon law claim. C'mon Ford, what are you doing? How many forums and complaints will it take to do the right thing?

Ford has a 2-page letter that states that common characteristics for the powershift are: Double clicking metal sounds, coast down whine-clicking sounds after the engine is turned off, low speed grinding, reverse gear whine, trailer hitching feel. This is totally unacceptable for a brand-new car. This is in no way common! I have driven Fords my whole life, and I am very disappointed.

I spoke to a mechanic and he said it's due to water seeping in through the door frame. I believe Ford should pay for this problem!

My boyfriend and I bought a slightly used 2012 Ford Focus on 09-01-12. After driving the car for a couple of days, my boyfriend noticed that the transmission was not right but he thought this was just because the car was new to us. Then when driving to work, I noticed that when I stopped on any inclined street between taking the foot off the brake and placing it on the accelerator, the car rolled back quite quickly to the point that I almost hit the car behind me. Days later, I started to feel that the steering required both hands at all times. It was constantly wandering and shaky especially during turns. To top it off, on 09-27-12, something unexpected happened. I was in the driveway. I shifted from reverse to drive and the car took off at a lurch. The car accelerated so rapidly even with my foot on the brake pedal. I lost complete control of the vehicle. The car failed to slow down, hitting two vehicles and tearing down a fence.

I could finally stop the car when I quickly shifted to park. To my surprise, I have been researching and I have found hundreds of complaints from customers in many different sites regarding the same issues. I do not understand how Ford sells this car with all these problems risking people's lives. This is a serious issue. How many fatalities are they waiting for? Are they going to do something about these malfunctions? This is ridiculous. If I have known all these abnormalities with this car, I would have never ever bought it for sure.

My husband bought a 2012 Ford Focus for Christmas. It sputtered and vibrated like an old car from the beginning. It did not understand our directions to use the Sync feature. I took it to the dealership about two weeks in because of the transmission complaints. They said the car needed to learn my driving habits and once it did, it would provide a smooth ride.

Ford issued a recall on the transmission of the vehicle. We took it and it was swapped in less than two hours. The car has never stopped vibrating, and now it sputters even worse when backing up. I will never ever buy Ford again. I have been mistreated and blamed for the car's malfunction repeatedly, as if I were imagining the issues. I'm afraid if I spend the money to fix this, something else will break and I will never stop paying for repairs so I'm cutting my losses. Why was it so important to save Ford from going under? My 2001 Ford Focus has manual transmission with 68,000 mile on it. I took it in for heater problems. The repairs were made. I drove out and came back to tell them there was a strange noise. They said it was just engine noise. I've been driving for a company for 50 years, so I knew it wasn't. Driving back on a freeway a couple of weeks later at about 60MPH, all the sensor lights came on, water, engine, etc. I lost power steering and brakes. I had to find an exit to get off. I did it without killing myself and anyone else. I got the car towed to the dealer 25 miles away who had done the repairs. I told them if the engine was blown, they owed me a new car. The result, the water pump was not seated and the assembly came loose, losing all coolant. Of course, they fixed it free of charge rather than face a lawsuit from me, a female senior citizen.

A few weeks later, the car would die while driving on the freeway, side streets, you name it. It's impossible to restart a manual transmission unless you have 3 legs. I'm cool under pressure, but this is too much. I took it in and they reprogrammed a computer at a cost of $135.00. Within a week, it was doing it again then stopped. Last week, it did it big time. I took it in. This time, they said it could be anything (bottom line, how much money do you have?). I sent a snail letter off to the president of Ford and to Auto Nations who owns the dealership to protect myself and family in case I'm killed or injured. I don't expect a response from either entity.

I learned years ago to document, document, document. I have a complete file from the day I bought the car and I mean everything, including the stickers that were on the car on the day of purchase. Right now, it's a wait and see before I proceed. If I don't get a response or an agreement to fix the problem free of charge, one of our local TV stations may like to help as part of their troubleshooter segment.
