Then a new and dangerous problem happened less than a week later. While driving 60 mph on a highway the Focus shut off and the steering locked up. Fortunately, I was able to apply the brakes and let the car cruise off the road out of danger. I know Ford has had a lot of recalls on the Focus.

I took my 2003 Ford Focus in for service seven times now for sputtering and just not running right. They basically did not have a clue and replaced everything. Still runs horrible, leaving me stranded at red lights with the hazards on until the car starts up again.

I bought a new 2003 Ford Focus. I drove about a half mile to the store, was in and out in about 5-10 minutes. When I came back out I heard people asking me if this was my vehicle. I looked around and there were several people around my vehicle which was smoking. It had caught on fire in the engine compartment.
Ford and the dealership refuse to fix or take the vehicle back. Ford sent a representive out and looked at the vehicle and determined that they could find no defective equipment that would have started the fire. So now I am paying for a vehicle that was involved in a fire and is still at Perry Ford.

We brought a 2001 Ford Focus in for a repair and Jim Tidwell Ford dealership in Kennesaw, GA had the car for 45 days. Then we got a call and they said the car was finished. First they never called to ok the repair, then they wanted us to pay a deductible for $250.00 and told me the problem was the sensor in the transmission. So we paid $250.00 and took the car.
Well, about ten minutes after we left the dealer the car started to stall and buck. So I called the dealership and asked what the heck was fixed? So we brought the car back and they said the battery cables were bad and to replace them would be $650.00. So they fixed that and then called us saying there was a problem with the head. Well the extended warranty is supposed to cover that. The extended warranty company would not cover the repair due to carbon build up.
Ford also will not cover the repair and now I read the ford focus article in your web site and it mentions things that are happening to my car!
Now I am supposed to pay $3000.00 for a repair that is covered by an extended warranty that World Ford sold to me.

My parents bought me a Ford Focus (demo). I got it in nov of 2002. I had in the garage 13 and now it is back in the garage in July for a week. I had the car on Interstate 80. I pulled out and it just died. I let my foot off the gas and it finally stared moving. Trailer trucks buzzing by me made me very nervous. I have high blood pressure to start with.

I had damage inflicted on my wheel about a month ago. I went to a retailer and two dealerships trying to find a factory replacement wheel for my 2003 (purchased in Feb. of this year) Focus. The only things that the dealership was able to come up with is that the wheel I need is considered by Ford to be a "production" only part at this time.
The wheel won't be available to the public or dealerships until October. Needless to say the spare I am driving on won't wait until October. I contacted Fords customer service center and was told that there was nothing they could or would do to help me and my situation.
Damage: the need to purchase 4 new/different wheels to replace 1 damaged one. Safety hazard from driving on a spare for too long.

I leased a Ford Focus in July 2001. This car has suddenly quit running on three occasions. The fuel pump has been replaced three times. The driver module has been replaced twice. The gas tank has been replaced once. I was almost hit on one occasion. I have a 14-year-old son and I am a single mother. I cannot depend on this car. I feel that it is unsafe.

Bought new Ford Focus SE 2002 on May 31, 2002. Car developed water leak; leak fixed at 1600 miles (AC/Heater Core fixed 9/02). Immediately, fluttering noise on accelleration and low gas mileage. Over four attempts for repair at Ford dealers over next 5 months. Told normal operating noise. Drove car for 8 months with this problem unresolved. Finally new DPFE sensor installed May 2003. Noise is gone. Ford Technical serv. Bulletin and NHTSA bulletins existed for years re: this problem.
I had inept service or was deliberately lied to by Ford dealers and manufacturer. I bought American to help the economy, but have had nothing but aggravation with this product and its manufacturer. I have contacted Ford many times by email and phone, but only recently (May 7) got a letter from Andrea Hollis, Consumer Intervention, stating that a Ford rep or dealer would get in touch with me. They never did.
I have filed a complaint (May 2003) with BBB and in touch with NYSDRA for possible lemon law arbitration. I will see an ASE certified mechanic soon to have my car checked out for possible damage caused by a faulty DPFE sensor not being replaced.

After 6 months of fighting about the brakes they were FINALLY repaired after you suddenly found another defect (they were recalled). Of the 7-10 recalls on my model, I was never notified through the mail of any of these, even after giving you all my current info. at purchase and speaking to your Canada headquarters 6 months after purchase to re-confirm my address! I did speak with Canada once, after repeated attempts to have your dealership to repair the brakes, finally SOMEONE contacted me from your headquarters when I sent a letter to Ford saying I was pursing my lemon law rights. thats when they suddenly found a defect and fixed the brakes after the car was 9 months old!
At any rate, I have had problems with this car since DAY 1! Your dealerships stink; they fix one thing and screw up something else! After one episode, I had to bring the car back twice for something the dealership screwed up when they went in to fix something else. Between all the recalls, brake problems, automatic start problems, radio problems, hesitation, etc. I was running back and forth to your dealerships many, many times throughout the years. I have never been so dissatisfied with a car in my life! I would NEVER buy another Ford after the free-for-all car and service I have received.

I purchased a 2000 Ford Focus in June 2002 (used); there have been numerous recalls on this vehicle. My recent concern is the rear wheel bearing replacement, which I had taken care of, now the dealership informs me that both front wheel bearings need to be replaced and are not part of the recall program.
All mechanics including the service manager at the dealership inform me that there is no reason for a car with only 51,000 miles for the front wheel bearing to go out. (especially both at the same time) but of course they have yet to be recalled and they will not repair without me paying $400.00 fee. I know this seems petty, but why recall rear and not note there may be a problem with the front.
I did not experience a problem with the front wheels until I took my car in for the rear wheel recall. I have been driving this vehicle since that was completed in March, 2003. I have been driving an unsafe vehicle and of course Ford Motor will not stand behind their product. According to several Ford service managers and other mechanics, this should not be occurring with only 51K miles on the vehicle. I am not a person that wants someone to do something for me for nothing, I feel Ford knows there are many defects on this vehicle and are not willing to repair/replace until someone dies.

Not to mention that we have put 2 sets of Brakes on this car in less then 60,000 miles and 3 sets of tires. I really feel that Ford should take responsibility for this accident and reemburse our insurance company (Mercury Insurance) for the damages that were incurred due to these air bags going off.

I own a 2001 Ford Focus that was experiencing drivability problems. On the way to the dealer, it cut off, and by the time I called to have it towed, it had caught on FIRE! I had it towed to the dealer. I did some research and found out that there is a recall on 2001 Focus for all of the symptoms that my car displayed, even the worst case of catching on FIRE! The dealer was unaware of the recall, once I informed them of it, they stated that even though I experienced ALL of the symptoms that it did not pertain to MY car. After contacting Ford 'Customer Relations', they refuse to offer ANY assistance!

Tony had seemed like my friend, so I trusted him. Big mistake. The contract I signed was not a buyback, like I was told it would be, it was a trade-in. My ESP had been cashed in, as well as the insurance policy I had taken with ford. There was a $3000 rebate in my contract, but the price of the car had gone up $3000. They didn't give me a copy of my contract until last week -- 2 years later.

The ignition system on my 2000 Ford Focus died at 36,004 miles, 4 miles past the warranty. The tow truck operator who towed my car said he's towed dozens of Focuses that had the same problem. The man behind me in line at the service center at the dealership said the same thing happened to him. They won't honor the warranty with 4 extra miles. I bought a new car so I wouldn't have to deal with repairs, and the first time I drove it passed the warranty limitations it breaks.

I was wrong. I went to the nearest pay-phone to call road service, and as I was giving the woman my location people near my car were running out of thier homes. I saw a stream of smoke in the air. I told the rep I need help, that "my car was on fire". I called the fire department and they arrived in less than a minute. The fireman did the best they could but the car was a total loss. The fire department said that if I had not pulled over when I did I could have been a total loss too.

On August 22, 2002, I purchased a new 2002 Ford Focus, I am constantly plaqued with water entering the vehicle. Of the three times that this car was presented only once was anything discovered by the technicians -- a gap between the windshield. Since the supposed repair, I continue to get water into the vehicle whenever there is a hard rain. Twice within two weeks I have had to bring the car in. The problem is so severe that I have requested another car but am being told that I must go through arbitration.

My 2000 Ford Focus was involved in an automobile accident and we believe this was due to a break in the CV Joint and loss of suspension.
Damage Resulting: Complete loss of vehicle, trip to the emergency room for series of X-Rays, three days of work lost, having to work while still in pain, having to take two different pain medications and not being able to properly care for my children during this altered state.

I purchased a 2000 Ford Focus in October 2000. Since then the car has been in the shop for 50+ days for problems ranging from engine problems resulting in the motor being replaced to brake system failure. I have all the service work orders. So far warranty has covered but Ford has said that they will no longer fix the transmission in the car even though the car has less than 3 years or 36 thousand miles which is what I thought the warranty covered. Apparently it is only 3 years 36 thousand miles if they like you or something.
My transmission has been replaced 3 times for the same problems -- gear whine in 5th gear which they claim is normal. Every independent mechanic that i have spoken to has said the car has a definite problem, and there is no such thing as normal gear whine.
The brake failure was caused by the right rear wheel cylinder breaking and leaking all the fluid out. I live in the mountains and had I been going down a hill I probably would have crashed the car, not even the emergency brake worked.

Have a 2001 Ford Focus that has less than 4,100 miles on it and they are replacing the rack/pinion, transmission (auto) and alternator. I believe this is the worst car on the market and has so many defects that it needs to be taken off the market and people given their money back. I am very disappointed in this vehicle and am getting no help or recourse from Ford.

I have had three rental cars and my car has been in the shop about 10 times. I am extremely unsatisfied and Ford seems to be giving me the run-around -- at only about 37,000 miles I don't think I should have had so many problems and I'm not sure how many more I will have.

I bought a brand new 2000 Focus ZX3. One month later I was drying off the car after washing it. I dragged the rag on the underside of the drivers side door and a flake of paint came off. So I started to see if it would flake further and it did -- the paint was comeing off off the primer.
So I looked the car over real good and on the underside edge of the passenger door there was no paint, just primer. The paint on the passenger side began to flake also.
Ford said it's under warrenty, they will fix it. I took it in and the paint shop said it should take about3 days to a week. I called at the end of the week and they didn't even start on it. I asked to have a rental car. They told me that they don't do rentals, tough luck.
OK, so two weeks and two days later the car is finally done. I look the car over and the clear coat has bubbles under it all over both doors. On the outside edge of the drivers side door there is not any paint just primer.
How patient am I expected to be? will it take another three weeks? Will there be more problems. I am suprised the paint issue was treated as no big deal.
I am wondering if this is an acceptable thing to happen and if so why.
No, it is not acceptable and we have advised Jeremy to beat it down to Phoenix and retain a Lemon Law attorney. This car will be nothing but trouble unless it is completely stripped to bare metal and repainted. Ford should do the right thing and give Jeremy a replacement.
By the way, it's important to act fast. Ford likes to run the clock on the Statute of Limitations. Jeremy could wind up like the owners of some older Fords with paint problems.
