So I am a 2-time owner of a Ford Focus. First one being a 2007 that has been loyal to me and is still chugging along! I still own that vehicle. Decided to hand that off to my sister to enjoy and decided to upgrade to a 2014 Focus. Worst decision I've ever made to date. The 2014 Focuses all have recalls on the transmissions due to Ford taking the cheap route and inputting faulty transmissions in all the 2014 year models. The sour part is Ford is aware of the failure yet ONLY approves of the dealerships replacing parts of the faulty transmissions instead of doing right by the customers and replacing the entire thing! I haven't even had my vehicle for 2 years and within the first year the battery failed and transmission followed... they put a simple band-aid fix to the transmission that only remedied the situation for about 3 months until I had to return it AGAIN for the same issue. It failed on me that time TWICE in 48 hours!

Then 3 months later it failed another 3 times! Most times the car fails I'm either driving on a high-speed highway or on a dark country road at night. Both very unsafe places for a car to continuously give out. Ford is fully aware and their only remedy is "we can replace the part again". I'll never put my trust in Ford again. I've owned Hondas as well as Nissans before and never have I experienced this kind of careless response from a company regarding the safety of their customers who invest thousands of dollars into THEIR vehicles. TRY YOUR LUCK ELSEWHERE. YOUR LIFE WILL DEPEND ON IT!

We purchased a 2013 Ford Focus new for our college-aged son in 2012. It has had nothing but problems, which Ford excuses time and again. First, we have dealt with the jerky, hesitating transmission, which has had numerous recalls, but never corrected. Now, Ford has issued a recall, saying the car could stall and completely lose power, but that they aren’t able to fix it yet. Their “remedy” is to keep the fuel tank above a half tank and hopefully, you won’t get killed in it if you do that.

My son now has a wife and two children under 2 and everyone is just supposed to hope that their car doesn’t stall on the interstate and cause their deaths!! How is this acceptable??!! To top it off, we had previously owned a 2003 Ford Expedition, which died at least four times while I was driving on the highway. Ford couldn’t figure out the problem, and we traded that death trap back to them because we could not have sold it to anyone in good conscience! I believe that Ford has known that they have numerous models that are losing power on the road for quite a while, and has chosen to remain quiet and let people die.

We purchased a 2016 Ford Focus because my son in law swore by Ford product. The first year we didn’t have any issues with the vehicle, got it serviced as need be, time line of service dates, etc. Last year the piece in the transmission had to be replaced, honestly didn’t think much of it as Ford seemed to bend over backwards to fix the issue, but less than a year later and it began doing the same thing. We took it back to the dealership (in a new city because we had moved) and not only did They lose our car for days they said they fixed the issue. Not two days later the car was doing the exact same thing so back to the shop we went where once again they lost our car.

We spoke to one supervisor after another with no resolution whatsoever as they insisted there was nothing wrong with the car. The car was not driveable at all. Ford credit wouldn’t get involved, we were not eligible for the “buy back program” that Ford talks about and felt our only option was to voluntarily turn it in. Ford refuses to come pick it up as it would be considered a repossession, keep in mind the only Ford dealership near us is the horrible one we had nothing but horrific dealings with so we were asked to turn it in there. My son in law went to turn it in, the guy refused to give him a paper stating it was being turned in but my sil managed to get a video recording with the guy stating his name.

Two months later we receive a bill stating the bill is last due, when we called to state that the car had been dropped off they called the dealership and guess what?! They can’t find the car!!! Two days after the car was turned in Ford put out a recall on these particular malfunctions that the focus continues to experience. We want something done once and for all about this issue as they want to charge off the entire $16,000 instead of the difference they would sell the car for. Ford is nothing more than a scam and their vehicles are not to be trusted as they are completely unsafe for anyone that gets behind the wheel of these cars. I strongly suggest Looking at any other car manufacture before ever considering signing your life and all your finances over to Ford credit.

I have always been a Ford customers, but when I bought my 2016 Ford Focus I have had nothing but problems with it. And now vehicle isn't operable and when I go to call Ford Roadside Assistance they want me to pay out of pocket for it to be towed to the dealership. And when I called the dealership they told me that I didn't need to pay out of pocket for the tow because I am still covered under warranty. So I had to call my own Insurance and they won't charge me out of pocket to be towed to the dealership. And I've only had the vehicle for 2 yrs, and I still have coverage for it to be towed but that's what I get for sticking with Ford. They care more about their greed selfish lives than caring for the consumer. So when I get that vehicle fixed I'm leaving Ford and I don't plan on ever getting another Ford. Oh and don't rely on the Roadside Assistance you'll just end up paying for it.

I'm more than unsatisfied with my 2015 Ford Focus. I bought the Focus new in 2015 and have had transmission problems from day 1. I took the vehicle to the dealer twice to have the transmission looked at but was told that nothing was wrong with it. I contacted Ford Motor Company and was told that my transmission warranty was extended past the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty but only if the vehicle will not shift from park to other gears. My transmission stalls and flutters when shifting gears and has since it was brand new 3 years ago. This is not an uncommon problem.

This problem is for all Focus' that year and a couple other model years that have the paddle shift option. Last year when the car was just 2 years old I had reached the 36,000 mile warranty coverage. At 37,000 miles I had to sew the driver seat together because it was coming apart. My Bluetooth does not work nor does the USB line in option for the radio. I would not recommend a Ford vehicle to anyone and will not be purchasing a Ford vehicle again.

I purchased a 2012 focus with 35,000 miles on it. At about 41,000 miles the power steering would fail as I backed out of the driveway or while I was driving down the street. I could still steer the car, however the power steering warning would come on, and once I parked the car the power steering would return to normal, before randomly doing it again. I took it into the dealership to be told they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. It finally quit for good at 61,053 miles (1,053 miles over the warranty). I was told I was out of luck. Even though it had been seen for the issue. My transmission went out at 70,000 miles, and is going out again at 130,000 miles. Plain and simple, don’t purchase a Focus unless you want more in repair bills than you paid for the car itself.

Bought my Focus 2014 certified. Well I've had 80000 miles on it when my catalytic converter went out. Took to the dealership and was told it wasn't covered. Later found out it had been but they wouldn't pay for it because the 100000 warranty had expired but had extended warranty. I'm still waiting to get called for a recall on latch. Dont think they will even call me. The latest is the transmission shudders a lot. Every time I've taken it in I'm told it's normal. Normal my butt. And the power steering has went out 3 times but I'm told it's working fine. I believe this power steering is a major safety issue and Ford needs to Fix these vehicles before someone gets killed. I drive store to store daily and don't want to be the one that loses her life to get them to recall and fix it. Doesn't anybody at Ford know what truth is??? I think not.

Updated on 12/14/2018: Ford Motor Company is a joke. Just so we are all clear. We have been put through the ringer and nothing has been done for our 2014 Ford Focus. There is a class action lawsuit against them for an issue with the transmission/clutch. This problem is a $1500 repair. This has happened a total of 3 times now and we have hired a lemon law attorney and Ford refused any negotiation. We have tried contacting Ford ourself and they won’t work with us privately. We have now had to resort to small claims court.

To top it all off, we received a notice from Ford that there is another recall on this same vehicle. A completely different issue. Ford is refusing to make this right. I’m completely disappointed in this company and just wanted to publicly state that. We don’t have much money and the money we have we work hard for. This is very frustrating. We can’t sell the vehicle because it’s not worth anything now and we are only a year from having it paid off. We really don’t want to start all over on a new car loan. When someone buys a brand new car, you expect that it will run and be reliable. Well apparently not if you buy a Ford vehicle.

Original review: We bought the 2014 Ford Focus in January 2015. The car was new. We had a transmission slipping issue, was covered by our warranty. We then had this same issue 2 more times. A total of 3 times. We were informed by the dealership this is a manufacturer's mistake and put a manual clutch in an automatic transmission and this issue will continue to happen. There is no real fix. Contacted Ford, no options given. Told they would cover it till my warranty is use then after that, it’s my issue to fix. This clutch assembly can cost $1500-$1800 to fix each time. So far it goes out yearly. Why can’t people just do the right thing? Instead of keeping a lifetime customer, you now have lost one.

I have to rate the Ford Focus the bottom in quality of vehicles we've owned. The reason I say this is that we've bought two Focuses for our daughters, a 2012 and 2013 models, for them while they are and were in their college years. From the beginning we've had nothing but trouble, transmission wise, with both vehicles. It all pertains to the automatic transmissions and their problems of slipping from first to second gear. Up until today, 12 August, 2018, both vehicles have had their transmissions rebuilt twice each. Today, our 2013 Focus would not even go into gear and had to be towed to the Ford dealership. This is a total of five times that, between both vehicles, they have had to spend days in the shops having transmission work.

The mechanics that we've spoken to at the Ford dealership are aware of these issues. They say that it is a common, known mechanical issue with the years and models. The inconvenience of having to take time off from work and headaches from dealing with these issues is not worth it. The vehicles are great looking cars and are good with price for starter vehicles for a high school or college student. The mechanical issues and the headaches that go along with these issues make the Ford Focus a bad buy. If I had to recommend a starter car for anyone starting out, until the Ford Motor Company does something with the transmission issues, I highly do not advise anyone to buy this vehicle.

Bought the car in May 2013. Was driving to Florida Jan 24, 2015 (18,397 miles). Car lost power on I-95 to Florida, Ford came and towed the car to Burns Ford Mercury in Lancaster SC (603 286 4414). Car lost power on I-95 going south. Burns had to keep the car overnight and got it fixed the next afternoon. Repaired wiring Harness. Car seemed to work ok for a bit. Jan 3, 2017 car lost power and one would not put the car in gear. Had it towed to Champion. Ford kept the until Jan 31. 1st they replaced the clutch and then realized there was an issue with the transmission. Lost the transmission they ordered (?), had to order another. Replaced the transmission with a New transmission not a rebuilt (was told they usually use rebuilds for cars under warranty), A case was open with Annette at Ford (**) at the end Annette offered an extended warranty for a additional 3 years (36,00 miles).

Feb 17 car made a whining noise and then there was another noise. Took the car back to Champion but they could not look at it right away. I was leaving for Florida, so they kept the car for 2 ½ weeks, Came back, told me they heard no noise. April 7, 2017 the car had the same issues as Jan 3. (new case no.**). Could barely get it into gear and it made a terrible shaking and jerking noise. Had it towed (again) to Champion where I picked up another loaner. Was told there was an issue with the NEW transmission. I called Annette (April 9) to tell her that the car issue was not resolved. She told me Ford did as much as could. AND the file was closed. I did ask if I got a lemon, her tone changed, got very defensive and read me what the PA Lemon laws were but did not tell me any updates to the law.

Finally got the car back April 27. They rebuilt the transmission and did work on the clutch, which was fixed on Jan 3. I have a very strong feeling that there is no fix to the issues. I paid for the clutch in January, just after I paid for the clutch. They came out with a recall BUT only for automatics (?). I got a notice from Ford and was told it did not apply to my car by Champion. If it did not apply why did I get the notice. Same issues that are going on with the automatics are going on with manual cars. So obviously there has been problems and Complaints.

I tried to solve this issue with the Ford Family but not happy with the outcome. I feel the car is unsafe to drive as it gives no signals when this loss of power and clutch does not work. No lights. Just stops working. What would happen on the freeway or if one was making a turn on a busy street. I go out of town and cannot take this car. My request is for you to reimburse me for the cost of the clutch AND to do a buyback.

I've had nothing but good experiences with this car. It's perfect for a family like mine. I have drove it in winter and it handled better than my old truck did. So I had to test the brakes and they work perfectly. I know my kids are safe because I almost got in an accident and had to push the brakes real fast and my kids barely jerked out of their seats. I love that it has a back-up camera when I back up I can see everything behind me. Especially when I'm trying to park backing up it will beep if I'm out of the line and it has red and yellow arrows to show me where to go.

It has a phone built into where I can have my hands on the wheel and talk on the phone at the same time. I can also send text messages. I like that it gets Hot fast especially in the winter, but it cools off just as fast. But I don't like the backup noise. Every time you put it in reverse it makes it really really loud beeping sound. And I wish it had heated seat switch. I also don't like that I can't control all the stations with the steering wheel because it doesn't work right.

However, I would like to be able to put different size tires on it. The Ford that I own only has low profile tires on it and that's the only size tire that can go on it. But other than that, I love the fact that it has 2 different places to anchor car seats. One is where the seat is and the other one is located where the back glass is. The anchors for the car seats is what made me want the Ford Focus over my other car. It was older and it didn't have the option for the anchors.

I liked the air conditioning, cd player, power windows and locks, remote key entry (doors and trunk). It was in my price range. All my life my parents owned Fords, so it was a familiar brand to me. It was silver which is one of my favorite colors. But, I would have liked to have window tint, maybe a better sounding factory stereo. The car was bought used, but still has, other than the faulty part, worked fine. It is comfortable although the headrests are quite large and difficult to see over, but the car is functional after having had the part replaced. I had had one of these vehicles in the past and liked its comfort and design. Already having owned a car like it before, I knew what I was looking for, but did not expect the faulty part. I would definitely, absolutely fix this car model's faulty part if I could, and I was would also definitely shrink the headrests, if only slightly, so they do not cause vision purposes for the driver, especially drivers with bad eyes.

However, they REFUSE to do anything about the Ford Focus which have many complaints about the same problem (Steering Problems). WHY? I am wondering if those of us who own a Ford Focus should get a class action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company for deliberately putting people's lives at risk with a KNOWN PRODUCT DEFECT and refusing to do anything about it. Complaints have been going on for YEARS about this issue with this model car, and NOTHING has been done to correct it. Again, WHY?

I am a Senior Citizen who relies on this vehicle, and the Steering Assist malfunction code is constantly on. This puts my life at risk, as well as others, and I have done research about the cost to "fix" this problem, OVER $1,000 (One Thousand) dollars. Some places/dealers will charge up to OVER $2,000 (Two Thousand) dollars for the same "fix". I will NEVER buy another Ford product because of their refusal to recall a KNOWN, LIFE ENDANGERMENT Defect after YEARS of complaints.

I bought a used Ford Focus and I liked the color of the car which is a unique green. I liked the mileage that it had. I was told it was a safe car with good brakes and I thought it would be a safe car for me and my family. But it doesn't get good gas mileage. I am not satisfied with the car and it was a bad purchase. It has tinted windows which I am not used to. The car could be improved to make it get better gas mileage and add a moonroof. I don't like that it doesn't have a better stereo and that it doesn't have the backup camera. However you get that you pay for.

We like that it's automatic, silver in color and has sun roof and leather seats but between recalls and mistakes by the dealership it was in the shop more than it was driven. The recalls have to be repeatedly fixed; clutches and transmission problems. We researched and spoke to dealership. They wouldn't take car back. We had to research information on lawsuits. Basically we are stuck with it. Can't believe Ford got away with releasing this car. Wish we had done more research before purchasing. We are really unhappy and will not buy Ford again.

I wish the engine was a little bigger and had more power and the care accelerated faster and quicker. Better image and feel of car maybe would be better and a larger trunk and cargo space. Other than that, I like the sleek look and comfortable seats. Airbags and multiple safety features included, dependable tires and strong braking system.

Car has good handling ability and turn radius. I am glad that after 8 years, engine and transmission are still original although transmission slips occasionally. For size, interior is fairly roomy and trunk has good capacity. But this car is a piece of junk cosmetically. Cheap plastic pieces fall or break with normal use. The Air conditioning unit always worked poorly. Now, it works almost not at all even though I replaced all components twice. Cost me a ton of money trying to get it to work but does not come out cold in hot Texas summers, though it is fully charged. Mirrors, Bumpers, Interior plastic pieces have all been replaced and repaired multiple times. Gas mileage is decent although it is declining after 8 years.

The car also has very loud road noise during ride. Cant do much about it but play radio loudly. The tires that came with the car blew out within the first month. Had to replace all of them for safety. The coating applied to the windshield caused a permanent glaze that made it glare. It was very hard to get off and took over a year to wear off. I am very dissatisfied with this purchase. It was a poor value for the money spent to purchase.

There are few improvements I feel needed to be made though. My grandfather has always throughout his whole life believed that Fords were the top brand of cars and I have great trust in his judgement. I drove a Ford Focus Hatchback when I had to rent a car. Despite not being a Ford fan, I liked the way it drove. So when I FINALLY found a Certified Used car in my price range, I was happy to see it was a Ford Focus SEDAN and I fell in love. I really love how it drives. I like the look of a mid size sedan. As silly as it sounds, one of my favorite features is the automatic lights! It is nice to have them turn on immediately when needed. I also really like having some controls on the steering wheel. I am always listening to music and when my kids start talking, it is easy to just move a finger for volume control without letting go of the wheel!

This might not be relevant in the end, but I am struggling with syncing my phone. It is really confusing for me, BUT I am that way with a lot of tech. But I do wish there was some less complex explanations of some of the cool features. Also, the vehicle needs a little more power and a little quicker than some cars. But for me personally, I prefer it over others. Overall wonderful experience thus far.

Ford Home Office would not pay for the repair or replace the car. I only drove to work and back home every day which was less than 30 miles a day. Car has automatic transmission. I will not purchase another Ford ever again. Should have stayed with Honda! I resided in San Antonio TX and purchased the car in San Antonio, TX. Had the car transported to KY where I now reside.

As of this date there are only 70,000 miles on the car! Did not allow Ford to replace the transmission. The issue began when the car died while driving home from work, car was transported by Triple A to Ford. After a few days, picked up car and the transmission was slipping as I was driving out of the Ford Repair shop. The transmission was not having that problem when my car broke down and Ford denied having being the cause while the car was in their shop and was willing to allow me to drive the car home in that condition. Brought the problem to their attention before leaving the lot and Ford refused to repair the transmission on their dime so I had the car towed to a transmission repair shop elsewhere.

I am totally unhappy with my 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback, cute enough car, mechanically a nightmare. I purchased my Ford in March 2016 @ 42,000 miles. About a week after I purchased the car, I noticed it was running a little rough, I mentioned this to the dealership when they called to see if I was happy with my purchase. That’s when I learned they had clutches even though automatic, he said “they do run a little rough, but the car will adapt to your driving and this will smooth out”… I will mention I know nothing about cars! After a couple of months the problem got worse, I called and made an appointment, they replaced the clutch at no charge. Problem solved, right… Wrong!

When the car was in to be worked on, I googled problems with clutches in Ford Focus, I was not prepared for the amount of issues and repeated issue with the clutch. I picked up my car, and asked if this happens again how long my I covered under the warranty. 100K is what he said. About 8 months later I started having issues, very minor but still an issue. I mentioned this when calling to make an appointment to have my car inspected and the issue was becoming worse, the sales or services person said we may have to keep it overnight because they were extremely busy. I told him I will wait until the weather breaks and bring it back in, asking again, I will be covered, right? “Yes, up to 100K." I dropped my car off to have the clutch replaced about a week ago.

I received a call thinking the work was done and I could pick up the car. I was not prepared for what I was about to hear. “It’s defiantly the clutch, however
The warranty on your car expired and Ford will not cover the cost…" I told him that can’t be right, I am covered up to 100K miles, currently @ 68K, "yes, we are

sorry, but we were wrong and the coverage for this type of clutch is only 60K??? The cost of the repair will be 1,800." I did not have the clutch replaced and will join the many people for are filing for class action lawsuit against Ford. As they are more than aware of the ongoing problem with the clutches and will do nothing about it…

So people do your homework – DO not purchase a Ford product, they will not stand behind you when you need them the most. Oh, did I mention when the service department called to give me the bad news, I asked why was I having this issue if the clutch problem was fixed the first time. He told me, well this has been an ongoing and Ford has finally fixed the issue with the clutches they are currently replacing. So the bottom line the second clutch was also a faulty clutch as well…

I am now in a rental car that I'm paying for out of pocket. I called Ford corporate and they told me in two days I'll receive an email that I will have to fill out information for then they will have to investigate and they MIGHT be able to help with something far as warranty. When we took it to the Ford Mechanics they said, "Oh it the motor has gone and it's not under warranty so pay us ($700)." When we got the car back after paying ($700) then we had a letter from Ford that fuel tanks are faulty so take the car to Ford dealer. We took the car. They claimed that they fixed the fault and when we took the car back and took the car to put fuel the fuel gauge wasn't working and it's not filling up more than 10 dollars petrol.

When we took the car back they said, "Oh we have to charge you. It's not under warranty." I said, "But you guys broken the gauge." After they look at it the hopeless Mechanics put some pipe upside down. Now sign came on the screen. Transmission's faulty. We took the car again to Ford. They charge the computer and now calling me. We charge the computer and now the reverse gear not working. Come and take the with no reverse gear or give us permission to diagnose and charge for diagnosis only 1400 dollars and then + the charge for repairs.

Bought a 2013 Ford Focus Titanium 2 years ago and a month later it would not start, had it towed, Ford said they'd never heard of this before...they got it going. It started when it felt like it, we were left stranded numerous times, had it towed. Manager was abrupt and condescending. Car was in their garage and when it decided to start Ford would call, "Come and get it." It started shuddering so back in it goes, beforehand I called the main office where a helpful guy told me to tell Ford to replace the TCM and it's covered, no cost to me. Manager wanted to argue and said it wasn't covered and he had never ever heard of this problem before, lies...I wasn't going to leave until he agreed to replace the TCM, finally he did. I was ready to pitch a tent and not move. (He didn't think that was funny.)

New TCM "fixed" the problem for 3 months, then I was driving on the interstate and lost power then the car surged forward, scared me to death. Then the engine light came on, took it this time to my local garage and it was the 02 sensor, when the mechanic took it out it was burnt. Replaced that and another code had come up, the converter. Had it all "fixed" and I was done. Problem is this car is unfixable, it will just get worse, I wanted to think maybe it'll be okay but the truth is it never will be so I got rid of it. That is the best thing to do and move forward.

Traded it in and bought a Hyundai. Lost money of course and the thought of having to do that upset me greatly but the stress and having to deal with the crooks at Ford are too much. Plus more importantly this car can cause a serious accident. Apparently my car is going to be sold back to Ford who I'm sure will put it back on the lot to sell to a very unfortunate person and the cycle will continue. Run, don't walk and get rid of the car now before you spend thousands more on it then wait for the next thing to happen.

Next thing you know I'm broke down out of state had to have it towed to a dealer that cost me 130.00. They told me it was the transmission shutter would have to order it they kept my car for at least a week.

Drove great for a few thousand miles then started the shuttering again, took it back in, had to reprogram it again kept it for 3 days. Then right at the 30,000 miles it broke down had to have a transmission modular, kept it for about a week. Then close to the 60,000 same problems all over literally the same repeat the shutter, the computer needing to be programmed, and a new modular all during the time to close to 90,000 than was broke completely down would not go into reverse or anything. Took it back in before the warranty was up. Was told that was no recall on it but there was thousands of Focus and Fiestas of that year with the same problems, parts where on back order just about every time. They finally put a whole new transmission system in it, computer, modular, and everything else.

Now today 2/2/2018 it has once again broke down the car was making a loud grinding noise or I guess shuttering, would not shift at all out of second gear and is worse than it ever was. Now remind you from the first time I started having the problems I had several ford mechanics tell me it would not leave me stranded, drive it in S mode, and turn it off sometimes the computer will reset itself. Finally I looked it up and there is a recall after 4 and half long years of nothing but headaches and $425 a month payments so we will see the outcome. I am demanding a whole new different make and model. I refuse to go through this anymore the problem is continuous from one transmission to another and seems to be a guarantee at every 30 to 40,000 miles you're stranded. All they have done during the warranty was put a Band-Aid on it. I do not recommend Ford Focus at all.

It started with shuddering accelerating from a stop and later it would miss shifts at higher rpm. When I took it to the dealer they said they would look at it. Then I was sent to the car rental next door.

That is where I first heard about the transmission being a huge problem from the rental clerk not the dealer. Ford denied there was anything wrong and flashed the firmware (which has been needed every time it gets serviced). Shortly after, with only 17,369 miles. The rear main seal was leaking and the transmission control module (TCM) had failed. The TCM and all the seals and bearings were replaced. It shifted fine for a short time and then firmware updates became an every visit item. I became lulled into a tolerable lack of performance for 3 years never getting it right. Now they have both failed again at 107,756 miles. Just outside the 100K extended warranty, they say. However, the extended 100K should be on the dealer's work at 17,369 miles leaving me just within the extended warranty period. Stay tuned to hear if Ford does the right thing and honors their work or not.

This was my very first car that I bought on my own. I felt I was doing an important service by purchasing American made since prior vehicles were not. I decided on the 2012 Focus, purchased in May 2011. Almost from the beginning I had complaints about how the car shuttered. The dealership blew it off and said that's how the transmission works, it learns how I drive, and that's why I get great gas mileage. They didn't acknowledge any type of problem. I then returned again with another complaint because going slowly uphill the car was literally jumping! Again, they gave me the same story and made me drive the vehicle with a service member. It was this employee that secretly told me they knew of a problem and to watch out for a bulletin. Finally! Someone is listening.

Flash forward, I get the bulletin and go back to the dealership to see if they will do work on it. They tell me they can try to flash it, but it's not guaranteed to work and may in fact make it worse. Ok. So I'm not going to do that. This was the 1st time I was talked out of doing the work. Where my huge problem comes in is that I was driving my infant son around in this vehicle. One day after work I parked the car to run in and grab him from the sitter. Come out, start the car and nothing! Here I am, stranded 45 min from home with my baby. I had to have my husband drive all the way there and back to take us home. The next day we drove out there to see if he could fix the vehicle or get it going (not knowing it was the transmission). It started! Seriously. So my husband decides to drive it home and follow me. As he is driving the thing literally dies in the middle of the road. Here we are again. Broken vehicle. On the side of the road.

Call Ford dealership and they tell me to have it towed (which I had to pay for) and they will take a look at it. Told me it was probably the TCM and it will be at least 2 weeks before they can fix it and offer no type of loaner. Really!!! I have an infant and have to work. And I'm supposed to pay for a loaner on a problem you knew about! Not right. Car was fixed and drove ok after that. Still some shuttering and problems with acceleration, but it drives and I'm not dealing with the service department anymore. Felt like I was going to get rear ended. Keep in mind that I have also always had my oil changes here and ask every time if there's any software updates or anything new for the vehicle... No, no, no. So aggravating!

I'm sure they don't document any of that. What sets me off is that I feel like they talked me out of doing all of these repairs and now when it comes down to the mass lawsuit you have to have had the car worked on 3 times to get anything! I feel like they knew this and purposely deceived me. I will NEVER purchase another Ford vehicle.

Bought a new Titanium 2014 Ford Focus. From the get-go the transmission had problems. At least 6 times at slow speeds, the transmission would kick out of gear into neutral. Not good when you're setting in traffic. The transmission would shudder, vibrate and slip in town traffic. Once you're on the road it ran OK. Except every now and then it would downshift for no reason. I wrote Ford Motor Co. about this problem and they replied that they were unaware of a transmission problem. This car has had the transmission reprograms at least 4 times and a 5th next week. The clutch has been replaced. And yet still have the problem. With the rebates they are giving right now, I thought I might trade it in on a new 2017 Focus. But after review, they are still having the transmission problems. Other than the transmission problem, the rest of the car has been performing great.

I purchased the Focus in October 2014... I felt it had issues shifting... Then I read up on this. Ford new 2 years ago it had this problem. Lithia Ford in 2015 offered me to trade it in for another vehicle so I choose a 2013 Escape and they rolled in 4k that was still owed on the Focus. So the Escape was 22k plus adding the 4k made the deal 26k. Without taxes. Well a month later the transmission went out on the Ford Escape. So it went to their shop. And I had paid for extended vehicle plan. They failed to inform me that these both vehicles have the same issue.

So being upset and not thinking straight... I just wanted out of Ford. So Lithia Ford had a Nissan Frontier truck. Lithia took the Escape and sold me the Frontier for 22k. Plus they rolled in 8k now to my bill. Only because I have or should say had great credit. I'm paying 36k for a 2012 Nissan Frontier that is worth 19k. They made a killing and I'm the idiot for being so frustrated and not thinking clear. Bad business.

I don't know how Ford can get away with selling these dangerous cars. It's not only a pain to deal with it, it's DANGEROUS. My 2013 Ford Focus broke down on the highway today with my kids in the car. Many flashes done on it, new clutch, new tcm, and now it's being towed back to the dealership. To top it off we are upside down so we are stuck with this hunk of junk car. I know our fault for being upside down, wouldn't mind it so much if I had a reliable car! My husband doesn't serve his country to be lied to, manipulated by the dealership and Ford motor company.

He's fighting for your freedom and you don't admit to the problem, you just extend the warranty on the transmission and hope we the consumer will be like, "Okay it's fine." No it's not fine!! You built a piece of ** car that's putting thousands of lives in danger and won't do anything about it. Even when the car gets "fixed" at the dealership, it just breaks down again and AGAIN. Ford should have to pony up the dough to buy everyone's problematic Focus or Fiesta back. Think about they are going to be paying more to keep repeatedly repairing all these cars as to oppose just buying them back and be done with them.

I purchased a new 2013 Ford Focus for my granddaughter to get to and from college and work; I thought I was getting affordable, economical and dependable transportation for her. WRONG! She complained about rough ride, loud noises like something hitting the car, transmission fluid was overheating per one Ford Service Tech and she took the junk to three different dealerships throughout the greater Seattle area who all finally told her not to bring it back. She decided to not risk her life and the well being of either herself or her expected baby any longer and gave the junk back to me.

The "car" has been through all the transmission recall issues which didn't resolve the drivability, the rear door locking recall has yet to be fixed - dealer says parts are on back order and Ford corporate says they are in stock (who do you believe...?) and the ford audio system appears to be the source of the loud hitting noises but because the bumper to bumper warranty has expired (even though the problem had been identified to several different dealerships while in warranty) Ford refuses to do anything about it because apparently service technicians "wrote it up wrong."

Estimate for fix is in excess of $2000.00 at $120.00 per hour!!! And back on the transmission issue: the transmission still intermittently "chutters"/vibrates when you put it into gear even after all the recalls were supposedly applied under an extended warranty. I have been told Ford continues to roll out focus junk with the same transmission. My sense of propriety and civility prevents me from truly expressing my utter disdain for this car and its manufacturer!

I currently have a 1993 Ford Escort (no complaints still working like a charm), a 2000 MiniWinnie built on a Ford 350 chassis with Triton Ten motor (have had some problems but they were resolved), 2001 Lincoln Town car (no complaints; all recalls were fixed after local service manager noticed they hadn't been fixed - I wasn't notified by Ford about them...) and regrettably I let go of my 1998 Chevrolet pick up truck and bought a 2013 Ford 150 with the most complicated and difficult audio system (I quit using it), and a steering issue when I go around a corner the truck doesn't want to straighten back up - I was told I would just have to get use to it, that it was "normal" for a Ford!!!

I helped a friend select a 2014 Ford 250 and fortunately there have not been any significant problems - but I will never, ever recommend another Ford product to any friend (or even an enemy for that matter) again at the risk of losing their friendship. Needless to say, Ford has lost me as a customer because of their shoddy products, lack of pride in their products and lack of loyalty to their customers!!!

Over the past 30 years my husband and I have purchased 2 F-150 trucks, a Bronco II XLT, a van, 6 Mustangs and 2 Focus hatchbacks. Obviously we are Ford people. I saw the Focus hatch at a car convention as a concept car, got on a waiting list to be able to order one. Finally in May 2011 I received my Focus SEL-loaded. LOVED IT! After having the car for about 15,000 miles, it starts to shutter, downshift, lunge forward, not accelerate when you press the gas. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the sensor. Another 13,000 miles, replaced the transmission AND sensor. Another year goes by and of course my warranty ran out, but they replaced the sensors again. Now I realize that no extended warranty is going to cost me-lots. I paid CASH $26,682.00 plus tax.

So in July 2015 I go back to Ford to look at another Focus. The salesman told me that the transmissions in previous Focuses had been replaced. So now I trade in the first Focus (they only gave $10,000.00 trade) for a 2015 Titanium-loaded with everything (and I bought the $2,500.00 extended warranty) and now have a car payment. Right around 3,000 miles the old shutter, shake, downshift starts in this car. I take it back and find out that the salesman LIED to me, the transmission is the same, and all the problems are the same. This car has had the sensors replaced (as of today FOUR times).

Last week, I called up to Michigan to Customer Services. They set up an appointment with another dealer and I go there 7:30 this morning. They were going to test to see if anything was wrong. Well of course the car failed and they needed to fix it. Instead of giving me a loaner like the warranty says, I sat there until almost 11:00 am. They come in and tell me that they are going to replace the transmission. Yay! But it will take another 2 hours. So finally at 2:10 pm they tell me the car is ready. I was so happy!

Then I said to the service manager "so, it has a new transmission, right?" And he says no. I know they said they were going to replace it and he says no, they have to drop the transmission to get to the clutch sensors. He told me to drive the car for 500 miles so it can "learn" how I drive. He also tells me this will not fix the problem and it is a band-aid, and the car will have to keep coming back until I get rid of it or my warranty wears out. Now I am mad. So I leave, go to the first light, and stop. Car starts to shutter and when the light changed - yep it did not accelerate. So I get home and call "Customer Care" (should be "don't give a squat"). I explain what happened and she says "so what is it that you want?" Well, I said, "I would like a vehicle that has the correct parts in it and performs as it should." She puts me on hold (I know she called the dealer) and comes back with "they have fixed the problem for now" and I will have to keep bringing it back.

So after wasting almost $60,000.00 on two pieces of junk I am stuck with the last one. I love the look, handling and general everything about the car but I have darkened the door of ANY Ford dealer for the last time. Shame on them for frauding the public and loyal Ford customers on these cars. I hope they get burned on the class action lawsuit and if anyone has an idea how to get this car fixed, let me know. I think the execs at Ford should have to drive these cars and see how they like it. Some time and I hope it is soon, good 'ole Karma will come knocking on Ford's door! My numbers below should be zero but they don't go down that far.

I bought/leased this car in May 2011 so it was probably one of the first off the line. It has always hesitated and shuddered and I never dared to make a lefthand turn with fast oncoming traffic in case it didn't have the Getupandgo. I've been to the dealer numerous times and they "updated the software" but nothing changed about the driving experience as far as I could tell. Today (August 2017), while I was driving (fortunately in the neighborhood), the transmission slipped out of gear. It then wouldn't let me reverse. I turned off the car and back on. It did let me reverse but when I put it into drive, the car only let's me move through first gear and then it revs in second gear not letting me get above 5 miles per hour.

Where to start??? We recently went on vacation to a water park resort and upon leaving at closing for the 2nd day our Focus would not start. No click no nothing. All lights work and everything else just wouldn't start. So we had to get a tow and call a cab to get back to our hotel. We were 2 hours from home but had already planned on staying that night. The next day we call garage where towed to and they were very exceptional on putting car right and to try and get us home for work the next day. They called back that it was the TCM unit that was bad but that because it was a recall item the extended warranty that was purchased would not cover and that we had to get it towed to a Ford dealership to fix. We booked another night at hotel and called our bosses to ask for another day vacation. Also rented a vehicle... no choice now.

Ford dealer couldn't get us in so the next day we had to use the rental to get home. Ford dealer called 2 days later and told us that they replaced the TCM unit but car would still not start and that they have a new reason for it. They said on the connector from wire harness that hooks to the TCM, that the clip was broken that holds it in place and that upon further inspection that pins were bent/ possible broken also. And that this was going to cost around $1,000 to fix!!! And to top that extended warranty wouldn't cover again because "It was caused by a previous fix". They sent out an adjuster to look at it. So the previous fixes were the clutch recall... Twice. And on a side note the clutch needs to be replaced for a third time already!!! But have just been tolerating. Car has 90k miles on it and would love to trade in if it wouldn't put us upside down!

So we call the only Ford dealership that has touched the car and can anyone guess their response??? From the service manager, "We didn't do that, not our problem." Well some "skilled tech" there did! This doesn't just happen! Someone with bad hand eye coordination obviously forced this connector on! And after miles of vibrations it finally failed. But the service manager where the original recalls were performed assured us that that could never happen. To add to that, the service manager where the Focus is sitting waiting says it absolutely can... Hmmmm. So we put a call into Ford itself. And they told us they are not responsible because all of the Ford dealerships are privately owned. And even though we argued that this wouldn't of happened in the first place if it wasn't for the recall fixes, they didn't care!

So our present situation is car is still 2 hours away, still having to use a rental, and now waiting on the attorney general to intervene. And it's been 2 weeks. We refuse to pay for a repair that was caused because of having to get this focus repeatedly fixed for recalls!!! This is absolutely ridiculous having to go thru this!!! But it's transparent now that no one at Ford or its franchises will back their work or their product!

To me it takes just a little bit of common sense to see how this all transpired. Shame on you Ford!!! And the lawsuit that is going on because of their "quality product" (sarcasm), we will all probably get a joke of a settlement and about $100!!! I really would have loved to use "sentence enhancers" throughout this review to show my true feelings, but kept this readable for all. Bottom line Ford made junk and don't care!!! You should feel ashamed to call yourself an American company! Why don't you go buy all your execs a 2013-2014 focus for their year end bonuses they get for ripping off the American people they supposedly represent!!!!

We bought a certified used 2014 Ford Focus SE 2.0L 4C with less than 50,000 miles on it (around 47,000 miles). Right away we noticed it stuttered, jerked and hesitated. We called the dealership, whose agent told us he knew exactly what it was, that his wife had the same issue, and that the Ford Dealership would be contacted to get the issue taken care of immediately. Three months later, Ford, being completely aware of the issue, stating they have been doing at least three of these per day, just at that Dealership, for the last year. They even already had a code for it, yet no official recall or disclosure was put out to the public at that time.

They had the car for about a week, replaced the relay and clutch (Automatic Transmission), did a once over, and gave the whole car a clean bill of health, but when marking the boxes (green for good, yellow for may need attention in the future, red for need immediate attention) they put a line through all three boxes, essentially admitting it needed to be fixed, was fixed, and would need more attention in future.

The problem seemed to be fixed, however, a year later, it seems to be back, only worse!! This time, not only did it begin to stutter, jerk and hesitate, it literally refused to go into drive completely, and the check engine light came on. People were honking and angry, as it was a light and an onramp for the Interstate, and my fiance was scared out of his mind!! It did eventually go into drive, and he came home in one piece... THIS TIME!!! He disconnected the battery, and the check engine light went off, and this morning drove the 57-mile drive to work without issue. BUT, obviously the issue is not fixed!! Or, it's going out again.

I read on several sites, that the issue comes back on everyone. Some after 20,000 miles, some after 40,000 miles or so, but either way, it comes back!! So here we go again!! Have to call Ford, deal with them about the issue, getting a rental, which better be for free, wait probably 3 more months for the parts to come in, etc. They finally have a generic recall on their website, but doesn't explain anything, because everyone is having similar, but different issues with this TCM Transmission. It is horrible!! They know this transmission is an issue, yet they are avoiding doing the right thing by totally replacing it or totally fixing it forever, or maybe just exchanging it for a better car without any cost to the customer.

Are we going to have to deal with this transmission issue for the life of the car? I don't even know how they are going to respond to my call, telling them their fix failed and issue is back and dangerously worse. And why hasn't NTHSA not done something about this? Are they waiting for deaths??? We owe about $15,000.00 on this car, and it doesn't even have 80,000 miles on it yet, and the transmission is a major death trap. If something happens to my fiance due to this transmission, you'd better believe I will sue for a huge chunk of that hundred billion plus they make every year!! He is the main provider, I am permanently disabled and he also is my part time care giver, and he's the love of my life!! So nothing better happen to him due to Ford's negligence in this transmission matter!!

My car started to have transmission problems sputtering on the hwy and unable to shift gears properly (didn't know this car actually has a stick shift tranny). Once that problem was taking care of, it began having electrical problems. Lights flickering off and on like there’s a shortage in the wiring. Ford mechanics can't find anything wrong and it cost $117 dollars for them to look. My car has completely shut off twice, once while driving on the hwy heading to work and once at a red light picking my children up from school, both times resulting in the car having to be towed away. Luckily both times this happened no one was injured, but my car dying on me on the interstate while in motion is very unsettling.

It got worse around 40k miles where I got two tickets in a week after the car won't decelerate in 25mph zones. It takes weeks to get an appointment with a dealer and they fail to take responsibility. I had clutch replaced and it went away for a few months until it gave up suddenly while I was driving and the car won't accelerate and "service transmission warning came on". Freaked out and closely avoided being rear ended for suddenly dropping speed. Took it to the dealer and was told they may have to keep the car for more than a week, Ford will only cover rental for a day or two when the car is actually being worked on. I cannot drive the car, and dealer can't get to it for over a week.

Then when they started working on it, they said the TCM failed due to low battery and if I don't replace it, any future transmission issues will not be covered by Ford. No other module had low voltage DTC, no issues with starting, so this sounded like ** to me. Nevertheless I replaced battery out of my pocket and replaced the TCM with warranty. The car is still showing shudder randomly and I keep getting burning smells. I tried to trade it in 2016 but because it is financed and lost its value, my payment will be very high on a new car. I still have more than 10k on the car and I fear for my life every time I get it.

I am very frustrated and angry with Ford. The need to face the consequences for this because this is a serious safety concern!! After trading in my old car because of transmission problems, the last thing I wanted in a new car was for the transmission to act up. I ended up getting a 2014 Ford Focus Titanium because it was a great deal and seemed perfect at first glance, but I was soon horribly mistaken. From the start it has had endless problems. I bought the car not knowing that it had a terrible sunroof leak, I figured it out after a severe thunderstorm to see my passenger front and back seats saturated in rain water. My car smelled like mildew for weeks until Ford decided to fix it, taking a full week to fix, leaving me without a car. Shortly after my rear bumper spoiler fell off during a rainstorm, it FELL OFF. And was missing a reflector and a small other piece which Ford told me would cost 600 dollars for... a reflector.

Then I started to experience what driving a dual clutch transmission was like. It was pretty terrible for a few months of jerking, jumping and bumping. Half the time it felt like my car was going to stall (which was my problem with my last car), I was terrified to drive it because it seemed unsafe to pull out into traffic without knowing what it was going to do. So I decided to take it to the dealership where they told me "oh that’s just how it works". They took it in for testing which took three days for them to tell me they couldn't do anything for me because it didn't fail the "test", and they couldn't feel it when they drove it. After going back at least ten times and them doing absolutely nothing for me, I went back very annoyed. The only answer I got was "I don't work for Ford, I work for this dealership".

I was appalled to say the least claiming not to work for Ford (stand behind your brand!!!). I explained my old car did it and that I was scared to drive a car that did the exact same thing my old car did. I was so upset because I had to keep a car that was terrible because I still had to pay 20,000 dollars for it. Finally, I went to a different dealership of a family friend who ended up fixing the problem. It took about a week to fix and it was fine for about 9 months. Now I am back in the same situation with a jumpy transmission. I recently got a letter in the mail about a law suit against Ford and the Focus, which seems wonderful. But I needed to have my transmission repaired more than 3 times, I would have had it fixed three times but Ford refused to fix it. Plus, if I did get any money for it, it would be 2,000 towards a different car or 5,000 towards a new Ford car. You could not pay me 100,000 dollars to buy a new Ford car. NEVER AGAIN.

I bought this brand new in 2013, the car was a comfy ride, and the transmission seemed OK when I test drove it. The next couple days I discovered some serious jerkiness while driving it and brought it back to which they said they reset the "TCM" and update some other such things. I was back to have them do this again in about another week as it didn't seem to fix anything, and they said the car has to learn how you drive before the "jerkiness" goes away (load of BS)

So - I still have this car, and have so far: been on the highway and the transmission just completely stops working, been in an intersection and the transmission will slip causing me to almost get hit, been parked, go to reverse and the car completely stops responding, every single time I'm on a highway then hit bumper to bumper traffic this transmission will start jumping the car forward and if you're not paying attention with the brakes you'll most likely nail the car in front of you.

But - Ford keeps saying "oh yeah nothing we can do" which is great to hear. They sold me, and from the looks of it thousands of others this lemon POS transmission and they're acting like it's our fault in some way. I've had this thing reset probably 5-10 times now and it seems that after a certain amount of miles it gets so bad you need to have it reset.

Ford isn't the only company I've had terrible customer experiences with, but man, I really wanted to like this car as there is a part of me as an American who says "man, I want to be proud of this product" but when my friends and family's Hondas have issues they take care of them no questions asked. If Ford wants to compete with these other companies, believe your customers when they say there is an issue with your product that YOU need to fix due to an issue with what YOU have created and released.

I got my 2013 Ford Focus a little over two years ago. I got it in Topeka, Ks and I was happy at the time. Shortly after that my windshield cracked and my car started slipping with the transmission so I took it back to the car dealership and they told me that all the Ford's Focus are made that way so I drove it like that the whole time. I was just clueless because I said it drive like a go-cart. So the next thing that went out on the piece of junk was the radio. I was hearing popping noise that sound like live wires hitting hot electricity. It would just pop and I would jump out of my skin every time it done that, this loud whistle sound coming from the radio. I was thinking the car was going to blow up. I kinda wish it did with me not in it but over time it blew out.

So now I don't have a radio then I get this letter from Ford saying there is a recall on the door latches and to reprogram the transmission. So after that was done it still drive the same. Then my brakes need to be fix. Then all of a sudden the transmission went out. So I called Ford headquarters and they inform me that it was a recall so I make an appointment with Dick Ford dealership in Raytown, Missouri on a Friday.

So I took off early to have them to do a diagnostic test on the transmission and I walk in talk to a guy name TJ ** and a heavy set older guy stated that they don't make appointments for transmission on Friday. And I explain to them what was going on with the car and he was very rude explaining the process about what Ford will fix and not fix and if your car is over 100,000 miles that they won't fix it. It was the clutch of the transmission that they won't fix over 100,000 and I told him I almost roll back into a car that was behind me at a light. They didn't care and were very rude. Remind you that I had just seen them just a couple of months before this happen.

So now I am driving just to work and back staying close to my area when I drive this raggedy car. Also I want to add I did call Ford headquarters right after seeing the poorly consumer assistance I receive from Dick Smith Ford in Raytown, Missouri. That customer service from Ford explain it all to me and I wasn't aware of this so call recall. A representative over the phone with Ford inform me that I should have register my car through Ford when I first got the car, but who does that.

I read a lot of review under Consumer Affairs about the Ford Focus. And I feel something needs to be done about this because I don't have the money to fix everything with this car driving around like this because this is going to go out completely. I do have AAA but I can't fix this broke down car. I can't believe that Ford is still selling this piece of crap. I contact another dealership just to check on getting another car and I inform him I don't want NO FORD. Never again will I buy one. Shame on you Ford, and if there is a class action Lawsuit is going on please contact me someway or somehow.

I want nothing to do with Ford. I have been taken advantage of by the dealerships. At Greenway Ford in Orlando, one of the service associates literally said to me all they are going to do is look at it for a few hours and give it back. I have spoken to a different dealership. They said nothing can be done. I am currently sitting on the side of a road because something fell through the bottom of my car and is scraping on the road. 2014 Ford focus shudders, loses power. I bought this car Sept 2015 from Enterprise car dealership. I did have it checked out and even checked for a recall...(Carfax). I found none before I bought it! I started feeling a shuddering as I went from starts to speeding up. I did find out that the car did have a recall for this very thing. I even took the car into a dealership in my area and was told that as it did not show up on code they were not obligated to fix it! I had even called Ford Co. and was assured that it should be taken care of by them.

I had to keep driving it as I have obligations... Dr appointments, etc. I have even had a fender bender as it hesitated as I was pulling into traffic (a good running vehicle would have been ok for that move)... well I just had the car back into a different dealership as I needed it to be fixed (too many close calls, even on the freeway losing power). They told me my warranty has expired and it will cost up to $2k to get it fixed!!! I believe they purposefully put low mileage for that warranty as they knew it would still be a problem... cha ching for the dealerships!! If I wreck due to this I promise there will be a lawsuit!!!

2013 Ford Focus Titanium - After reading the reviews I should not be surprised by my transmission failure at 65000 miles. Bowen-Scarff Ford in Kent, WA wants over $800.00 just to "find out" what is wrong. They say that the recalled parts that operate the transmission that they had to replace YESTERDAY are not to blame for the transmission failure and they have "never seen" one of these transmissions fail. Really?? They also "don't know" if it can be just replaced or not. Took me but a moment to find out about these!

First two mechanics I spoke with outside of the dealership told me about these transmissions failing, and precisely why they fail. Poor design! It's actually a manual transmission with a clutch plate made to shift like an automatic transmission. These parts not operating correctly can lead to internal transmission issues and failures and Ford and Bowen Scarff Ford SHOULD know what to do and how to take care of the customer. Instead, nobody wants to take care of Ford's failure to put a quality product in the hands of a consumer.

Don't trust Ford and Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent, WA with your car and your money, and DON'T TAKE A CHANCE ON A FORD PRODUCT. I will take my car elsewhere. Ford Motor Company, shame on you for selling poorly designed and poorly built products and not standing behind them. These cars are not cheap and fail prematurely. Lastly, these are all highway miles. This should not be an issue.

I purchased a 2012 Ford Focus with an automatic transmission in 2013 with around 12,000 miles on it. Shortly after purchasing this vehicle I noticed a hesitation while trying to accelerate and a shuddering from my transmission. I called a Ford dealer and was told that this is just how the car is and it was normal. After a few more months I noticed noises when the car was shifting and I again called a Ford dealer to see about having it looked at. Again, I was told that this was normal for the type of transmission in the Ford Focus (some combination transmission type with an electronic component was how it was explained). After the transmission getting louder and stuttering I finally was able to get Ford to look at it and was told they had to reset some computer system. It improved for awhile then started the same loud, shuddering shifting issues. It always seemed to be the worst in the lower gears... trying to get up over 25-35 mph.

Eventually Ford had recalled the TCM and after a long wait I was able to get it looked at and replaced. It helped for around a year then it went downhill fast. This time I had all the previous problems with the transmission and a new problem: it would refuse to accelerate almost as if it was falling out of gear. One afternoon my car literally would not move and I had to put it in reverse then back in drive a couple times to get it to move and I could feel it slipping. I drove it straight to the Ford dealer. I thought that Ford had extended the warranty for the transmission but they only extended it for the TCM. I was charged over $1000 for a shift fork in a car that had around 77,000 miles (with a lot of those highway miles). This was an automatic transmission so it was not as if I was shifting heavy. Any damage to that part was due to the horrible transmission Ford put in it! I got it back and on my drive home from the Ford service shop it broke down with the same exact problem!

I immediately contacted Ford and had it towed back to be fixed properly. This time they told me the TCM needed to be replaced again! It was covered but of course I had already paid over $1000 for a new shift fork and will never know whether that repair was even necessary. I have my car back after all these repairs but it still is sluggish in accelerating and shifting, it shudders, it makes noises. I called customer care and was given no help. I have purchased 6 Fords over the past 20+ years and will not buy another Ford after this experience. Ford knows they put out a poor product in the Ford Focus but will not do anything to correct it. Covering 1 part for an extended period of time is not taking care of the customer. Very disappointed.

Purchased new 2014 Ford Focus SE on Aug 6, 2013 for our daughter. Started having issues with transmission July 7, 2015. Dealership reprogram TCM and replace clutch under warranty. Daughter temporarily moved to CA go to school. Nov 16, 2016 my daughter calls us crying desperate with transmission issues again and vehicle is taken to nearest Ford dealership. Dealership replaces TCM at no charge under warranty and replaces clutch which cost my wife and I $2009. On May 2017 desperately calls again vehicle won't start so my daughter pays for a new battery and gets it installed.

While driving vehicle transmission fails to engage properly not going more than 5 miles and won't engage in reserve. Vehicle towed to same dealership that replaced TCM and clutch. Dealership finding states transmission needs replacing. Cost approximately $5,000. Had to have vehicle shipped back home to Washington state and daughter has no vehicle and we still owe $7,000. Ford completely ignoring the issue. These dual clutch transmission is a failure. Leaving the customer having to deal with the nightmare of a manufacture defect. This is totally unacceptable!

I bought my Ford in 2012 with about 40000 miles on it. Early on, I noticed shuddering in the transmission, but assumed that it was just because of the type of transmission. Around maybe 85,000 I noticed there was something leaking. I thought it was from the air conditioning condensation. In late July/Early August of 2016, I took a trip in my Ford Focus to visit a friend in Wilmington, NC. It was me and my 2 children and due to a mess up by our mortgage company, we had very little money. When we arrived at my friend’s house, my car which I had driven the entire way to Wilmington from Pittsburgh, PA would not start. It didn’t start for a few hours after which was extremely stressful, but I thought maybe the engine was just hot.

The next day, we went to Walmart and had no problem getting there. We did our shopping and get back to the car, it would not start. It was pouring down rain and so I had to lug my two children back out through this massive storm to get to the auto center. We get there and I am completely distraught. They jumped my car and determined it was what they thought- the battery. Buying that battery used up what little money I had left until my next paycheck.

The next day, we decided to take a trip to the beach because it was close and inexpensive. We drove to the beach no problem and played for a bit. We get back to the car and it won’t start. New battery and all, the car just would not start. After about 5 minutes, it started running again. At this point, my anxiety is just through the rough and the kids are scared. I cried a lot because I didn't know what to do at all. I was watching the house for a friend and didn't know anyone. We had to just not go anywhere for a day or 2 to get this all figured out. It completely ruined what was supposed to be a fun vacation.

At this point, I was at a complete loss. I started researching Ford 2012 Focus problems and found evidence and examples of cars that were acting just like mine. Total loss of power that was completely random. I was stranded out of state with my two kids. It turned out to be something called the TCM. I took my car to a local Ford dealership after speaking with Customer Care and they repaired the TCM but told the clutch was leaking. He basically told me I needed to buy a new transmission which would be close to $2000. I didn’t have the money to fix this and had not received any notices regarding a fix needed on this. I believe this was due to moving and having a new address.

When I learned of the clutch warranty repair, my car was over the mileage. I was under the impression that 100,000 miles was from when I purchased the vehicle, which already had 40,000 miles on it when I got it. Today I learned that they will not stand behind their faulty product. I am completely disgusted and will never own a Ford Vehicle again. To add to my frustration, I attempted to trade in my Ford, which I owe approximately $4000 on and was told that it was worth only $1000 due to the faulty transmission. So I have to pay $2000 to fix a faulty car that is only worth $1000 that I owe $4000 on. Please, someone explain to me how this works? There are TONS of lawsuits against Ford right now. Like, a bazillion lawsuits even a class action lawsuit… I thought maybe if I reached out to them they might help me take care of this issue since it would probably cost a lot less than going through the arbitration process, etc.

I am hoping to get this resolved through Ford and if I can it will restore my faith in their product. If you do research on 2012 Ford Focus and other Ford cars from around that time you can see a TON of sites, posts and news about how these cars are lemons.

My daughter purchased a 2014 Ford Focus from Tedd Britt Ford in Fairfax, VA. From the very beginning when driving the car it always felt like you needed to change gears, but considering it was a manual changing gears was not an option. My daughter was a college student at the time of the purchase. While attending school full time she also worked full time as a server. My daughter was proud to buy her first new car and she worked hard to pay for it.

She was encouraged by her Grandfather to purchase the extended warranty on the car and even though it would cause her payments to be higher she said it was a smart investment for later down the road. Her Grandfather also told her to make sure she kept up with the service on the vehicle. She has never missed an oil change, tire rotation, etc... At each service visit she told the service person the problem she was having when driving the car... the jerking, the stalling, the feeling that she should be changing gears, but can't, the random times when it wouldn't start for no reason, etc... and each time she was told they found nothing wrong with the car.

Last week the transmission light came on and she immediately called to schedule an appointment at the local Ford dealership. She scheduled the earliest appointment available, but that wasn't soon enough this past Saturday. 4/22/2017 the car would not drive and it left my 22 year old daughter stranded. The car would not go into reverse and when she tried to drive it the car would not drive faster than 5 mph without shutting down. Some nice stranger told her that maybe the car was in theft mode which is why she was unable to drive it. Wishful thinking! We had to have the car towed to the Ford Dealership in Newport News, VA.

Yesterday, 4/24/2017 the service person contacted my daughter and told her the clutch needed replaced. She told my daughter that the problem was a recall and would be fixed at no cost. Syke! My daughter received a call today and is now being told she would be responsible for the cost of repairs. Excuse me Hall Ford? How are you going to tell your customer one thing one day and something different the next day? Clearly the problem is with the make & model and not because my daughter was irresponsible! My family are loyal Ford customers! My Dad drives a F350 Dual wheel Diesel Truck, I drive a Ford Taurus, my brother drives a Ford Explorer, my sister drove a Ford Explorer, and now my daughter drives a Ford Focus. My daughter just wants her car repaired and drivable. I truly hope Ford does the right thing!

So I got into a car accident back in September of 2014 and that winter I bought the 2012 Ford Focus SEL. At first it was an amazing car and I loved it with all of my heart because it got amazing gas mileage and Bluetooth. Loved the car. Well once I graduated high school and started driving the car longer distances, there were more and more problems with it as I went along.

First: The radio started giving me problems. The speakers would make a firecracker noise throughout the vehicle whether I was driving or not driving. We replaced the speakers because we thought that maybe I had just blown the speakers or something like that. After that the problem still continued and then the radio would turn itself off one its own while I was driving. We replaced the radio and then the battery to my car started to go bad so now 5 batteries deep into the car I still have no radio and the speakers don't make the noise but that's only because they are disconnected.

Second: The weather strip on the drivers side door is completely ripped up and I have no idea why, BUT we did find out that the car had been in an accident and the drivers side door is a replacement and whatever they did they did not make it flush nor did they do a good job fixing it because the door slams against the frame of the car (NOT A GOOD THING).

Third: Now I have seen and heard about the stuttering when accelerating. I have learned that if you turn off traction control that problem goes away, but you have turn it off every time you get into the car. SO that's a huge no for me. They have told me that they could fix it but every time they've "fixed it" it happens again. SO I was told later on that there is an unnecessary part in the transmission that once it's taken out there's no more stutter.

Fourth and final: There is multiple water leaks throughout the car. I can find one, get it fixed and another seems to show up. I have replaced anything and everything to prevent the water leaks, but nothing seems to fix it and there is no leaks or holes in the trunk where the spare tire is and there is always water in there regardless. So overall I have had this car for about 3 years now and I HATE it. Like the level of hate I have for this car is massive.

I am living a nightmare because of my one year old today Ford Focus 2015. From the start it made a rattling sound on acceleration, shuddered, and was slow to accelerate. I traded my very reliable Ford Focus ZXW wagon with 271,000 miles on it for this piece of junk, and at purchase it was NEVER DISCLOSED TO ME that I was buying a car that had a different kind of transmission than the other Focus did. The sticker which I still have, reads AUTOMATIC on this vehicle that has a faulty transmission which is the worst thing that can be wrong with any car.

In October, the dealership that sold it to me kept the car for five days to diagnose the problems. I called every day to see what they had found out and I was met with a stony silence and told the transmission person hadn't had time to look at it yet. When they finally called, the arrogant woman behind the desk told me she had driven it several miles and heard no rattle, so they had not done anything to the car at all in those five days. Are you kidding me? I took it back in again for the same complaints plus the windshield wipers froze in the middle of the windshield and the gas gauge did not read I had put gas in it. Again, they told me there was nothing wrong with the car.

So I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they arranged with Ford for an engineer to go to the dealership and look at the car. He found that it needed a new clutch which they put in this week. Upon driving the car home, I found that the rattle was gone and now it makes a chirping, squeaking noise on every left turn. This is my family's only car. I emphatically told the salesman at the time of purchase that despite my financial situation from being a single mother for decades, my family needed reliable transportation, and at 271,000 miles, I didn't know how long my Focus wagon could provide that and so I felt I needed to buy a new car. And even knowing all that PLUS the problems inherent in this transmission since 2011, they sold me this nightmare of a car.

The stress of this is too much for me. I bought a new car to avoid the stress of having a broken down car and am stuck with a car with a bad transmission and who knows what they damaged while putting in the new clutch that now causes the squeak on left turns? I am afraid they won't take responsibility for that either. All I want is a car with a real automatic transmission that I can depend on. That is what I was sold, and Ford needs to stop robbing its loyal customers.

The fixes lasted for a short time, but the problem always came back. April 2017 we ask for the transmission to be checked because it is jerking the car quite extensively. They call back, tell us the transmission needs parts they will be ordered. They call and tell me the car is done and I go pick it up. I drive to work the next day and as I am parking, the Transmission Fault light comes on and it says service now, I have no reverse and cars in front of me, so I leave it where it is. The service department calls and tells me my transmission failed because I need a new battery. It will be $195.00. I call BS on the transmission failing because of a battery, but what can I do, they have my car. We agree to pay for the battery, but not labor, because I can put a battery in my car. They call and tell me my car is done and to pick it up. I come to pick it up, paperwork says I owe $195.00. Is there anything that this department does right? Again the person at the counter fixes their mistake and only charges me the $125.00 (for a battery to fix a transmission). I take the car home. I go to pick up my daughter from school, and the transmission fault light turns on again, and I no longer have reverse. We call, they come and tow it again that evening, leaving me without a car, while I still have the responsibility of bringing kids to school in the morning.

They call now and tell me that my clutch is missing a gear and that FORD will not fix it under the warranty because it has nothing to do with problem. My car had reverse just fine when I brought it to them, now all of a sudden it does not have reverse. How many times does this have to happen to have FORD own up to their failure and fix the problem?

Since then the car is running hot, the cooling fan is not working to the voice and gotten worse and now it's making more noise. Took it AUTO zone for them to put a machine on it to tell me everything that is wrong with but ford has ease everything on it. Taking it back to ford tom and see what lies they tell me this time. Well here we are 3 years later; we have kept up all maintenance and oil changes on this car no problem. We pay $200/m car insurance and also pay $375/M for the car. 1st of all the loan company they put us with tried to repo our car while my husband was in boot camp, when law states that they were legally not allowed to do so... including while he's active duty!! Anyways... my husband was on his way to work and the car SHUT OFF!!!

I have taken this car to the ford dealership we bought it from back in Texas and also 2X here in California. Well they have yet to fix it!!! It shutters, the computer box fell out when we were driving. We owe the finance company $18,000 and right now I do not want to pay them a dime for the crap Ford has put us through. Now my husband is without a car for a long while and he is in the military, he CANNOT miss work by any means, and now on top of that, I can't get to work or take my child to her therapy. In Jan 2016 I purchased a brand new 2015 Ford Focus and paid almost $26,000 in cash figuring at my age (66) this car would last me for a while. What a piece of CRAP. At 300 miles it went it for a transmission problem. At 6000 it went back in again. I wanted to trade it in and they said it would only be $130000 for a new car with only 6000 miles fully loaded. I called Ford to buy it back. They refused stating I did not qualify for a buyback. Knowing that while drive on a highway, they state the car could just "lose power" and basically I could be killed. There was nothing they could do about it.

Research now I see the problem existed for over 3 years and Ford did nothing. Now I have a car I am afraid to drive. I feel in some way this constitutes fraud, knowing they had a problem and it CANNOT be fixed. I just got my car back a week ago, it bounces and hesitates, and smells of something. Probably transmission fluid leaking again. I will be putting the car back in soon but I don't know why I leave it parked in the street instead of my driveway with the hopes it will be hit and totaled. DO NOT EVER BUY A FORD! I am now out $26,000 because if I traded it in I could only get a used car.

Went to make a turn I've done everyday for last several months, car didn't turn, and went into the ditch, now it's at the Collisoin Center. Researched the vehicle and Ford has 24+ recalls on this vehicle, and nobody is doing anything, the steering issue is dangerous and should have been recalled but wasn't. Ford saying it wasn't a problem and no one had been injured because of it, only have had the car for 1 1/2 years, this car should be removed from everyone's stock and not be sold, it's a lemon made by Ford. I took it in and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I had to get used to driving that since it drove much different than my Accord. I just kept thinking it was me. Flash-forward to this January. I am driving on interstate doing 70 and car stalls. Without warning. RPMs will skyrocket but car won't move. Transmission failure pops up. In the middle of this I am almost ran over by a logging truck. I get towed home. I take it in to Ford. They said it's covered and they "repair it" for free. I take it home, drive less than 50 miles and it begins to shudder and lurch me forward. The terrible road noise returns when speed's between 45-60.

I take it back. They "look at it" and say the codes don't appear and when driving it on the roads that don't go to that speed limi they can't get it to recreate. They keep brushing it off. I take it home driving about 50 miles. The car stalls uphill on interstate going 75. Again I am almost hit several times before I can get to the shoulder. RPMs skyrocket and I can't go. I pull over and then it off. Then it won't start. I finally get it to start and the shuddering is worse than before. It feels like someone is quickly slamming on the brakes between gears. Again 3rd visit to Ford and they say it can't be the 14m01 and 14m02 again and I'll be alright.

Well I take it home and it does it again. I call Ford. The lady said it matches all symptoms but she can't force repairs. Ford will not help past the first extended warranty repair. My car has dropped a lot in value. Not all repairs are on Carfax either. I can't even get rid of this car since it's basically valueless. Ford should buy this back above value and let me drive something I don't fear for my life in. This has gotten ridiculous.

Purchased a 2014 Focus in October 2016 with 20,000 miles from local Ford Dealer. Within a couple weeks I had to have clutch put in automatic transmission (shuttering - feels like someone that doesn't know how to drive with a clutch). Started reading up on issues online this is not a few vehicle with this issue. Was not a happy camper since I paid cash and now do not have the option money to put out on another vehicle. I asked for my money back but they seem to think this was all a joke. "All is being handling under warranty". Ok - however approx 2000 miles since the first clutch repair and the vehicle needs to go back into shop for same problem "shuttering". Consumer has to take off work to get vehicle back to the shop and find a way back and forth to work and home. I bought the car so I would have reliable transportation!

The dealer was aware of the issue and said they cannot replace the clutch until it is purchased and a warranty claim is made...WHAT. You willing state you knew but sold the vehicle and still are selling these vehicles with the problems not being corrected. Therefore, I have to take off work, find a vehicle or ride to work while my car is back in the shop. All the dealer can say is "it is a Ford issue" not the dealer. Funny I thought a Ford Dealer represented the manufacturer since that is what they sell. There seems to be no fixes for this issue except to continue returning and having the same issue fixed with the same issues. VW was made to be fair with the purchasers due to their error. Why isn't Ford responsible and giving us the option of returning our money that we have put out on purchase and I don't mind stating w/ tax I paid just over $15,000 and two weeks later the trade in value for this vehicle was $7000!! A great loss in value.

Shame on Ford especially from the clients that have stood behind them for years. I now know why others seek our foreign made vehicles! The Ford Focus is the worse vehicle I have owned. Another word of caution you will not get the gas mileage they state. I was getting 28 and as the clutch problem becomes more advanced your gas mileage will drop. I take my car back in this Wed and right now gas mileage is down to 26 and I am driving the same roads and speeds everyday. Where is the manufacturer and who holds them responsible!

January 12, 2016 I leased a 2015 Ford Focus with only 31 miles on it. The end of January I noticed quite a bit of shuttering but was told that the car will start driving correctly once I put 1500 miles on it and that it just needs to get used to my driving habits. As the next month came it continued to get worse so I took the car into the Ford Store in Morgan Hill in March to find out that I needed a new clutch. That was ordered and installed in April. The car continued to shutter, hesitate, and rattle. I've taken it in about 8-10 times within a year of having it. Each time they give me the same answer "It isn't giving us the number we need to see to have Ford engineering approve us to fix it." I've even mentioned that I feel unsafe while driving this vehicle because a few times on the freeway it didn't want to accelerate while merging on the freeway and I almost got hit by a Semi Truck.

I was given the number from the service advisor to file for a buy back if the problems continue, which they did so I filed a claim. The claim was denied and I was given no info on why. The Ford regional Manager of the San Francisco Region was supposed to call me with an answer but she explained it was denied by emails. The emails were addressed to a Mr. so I am assuming she didn't look into the case because I am a Ms. I have continued taking it in and recently got connected with the owner of the Morgan Hill dealership (Tim **) son in law whose name is Ryan. He sent me some deals he worked out on a trade in but I would have to purchase a 2017 or lease a vehicle that I did not like if I wanted to pay around the same price I am now. He said it was too late to get out of my lease but I could sell it to a private dealership if I wanted to. He did recommend that I have his technicians look at my vehicle one more time.

I started noticing a burning chemical smell that was so foul that I had to roll my windows down to breathe without it feeling like I was going to pass out so I took it in one more time. They had my vehicle for another 5 days and found a tag from a manufacturer part stuck in my exhaust pipe. The service advisor said that it was a coolant hose tag, and it was burning and melting which was the smell I was smelling. He said they would send it along with the results to Ford Engineering and give copies of everything to Ryan as well so we could look into a better deal with a buy back. I didn't hear from anyone for about a week so I sent an email and received a call from Ryan almost immediately. He stated that he had no idea what he was supposed to call me about but that he wasn't going to do a buy back and my only options were what he already worked out for me.

So I continue to drive my car that they say is fine, and that they say they are doing everything to help me but Ford Engineering will not agree to fix. This is my first experience with a dealership, and the reason why I went with Ford was because I wanted a dealership I could trust. This dealership was also referred to me from my boyfriend at the time who purchased a vehicle there a few weeks prior. When I was in the process of leasing the car my credit was not too good so the owner of the Ford Store called the bank who was going to give me the loan, and he had them do this favor for him so I could get the vehicle.

I feel like I am being taken advantage of not only as a consumer but a woman. If I was a man I don't think they would be giving me the runaround. I pay my payments on time and just want a vehicle I can feel safe in. I'm driving around in a vehicle that I can not drive more than 45 miles because of how bad it shutters after, I can not do my after work errands because of the shuttering and rattling sound it makes after stop lights and stop signs. I am limited to where I drive my brand new vehicle because it only does well on roads that do not have an incline. My vehicle does not even have 12,000 miles on it and it already feels like it's ready to give up.

I am so incredibly livid with Ford Motor Co and their handling of the transmission issue. They knowingly continued selling a car with dangerous transmission issues for 5 YEARS (and complaints would have started coming in during 2011 and 2012)! PLEASE DO NOT EVER BUY THIS CAR - YOU WILL GET TO ABOUT 30,000 MILES BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. I purchased it at Charles Gabus Ford in Des Moines IA from a sales rep named Erica. They refuse to acknowledge their mistake to this day.

I asked Erica while purchasing the car about the reviews I read online, to which she laughed and responded that it was a bunch of baloney, and we literally had an argument over whether there was an issue while I was test driving the car. She insisted there was not. I felt obligated to purchase a separate $1000 warranty just to make sure they weren't screwing me over, because I had a bad feeling they were. The car had 22,000 miles on it, and right now, only has 24,500 and the issues everyone has described on this forum have already begun. I have two friends dealing with the same problems: one in a much worse boat than I am.

When I purchased the car, I just had back surgery the week prior, and simply needed a car with a nice, adjustable seat. I was only a week after surgery when she swindled me. This company and car are complete garbage. If I bought a $100 product that is crap - whatever, shame on me, no big deal. But a $14,000 product? SHAME on them! There is a class action lawsuit you can join for anyone who has also fallen victim to this fraudulent car. Please join it if you are having issues and let's show them how bad their business decision was. 2012 Ford Focus, purchased new has only 31k miles. A problem developed with the fuel level gauge indicating full when in fact was near empty. Subsequently emissions codes PO420 and PO456 came in indicating catalytic converter problems. This problem has been known to Ford since 2013 and is described in multiple Technical Service Bulletins. The problem is identified as a faulty Evap Purge Valve. Ford although well aware of the potential for motorist to become stranded on the road has failed to proactively acknowledge this as a major safety concern.

This car has been to the dealer for (3) separate recalls none associated with this issue. This car has a safety problem Ford has been aware would develop for 3 years or more. At 31k miles this car has become unsafe to drive, the fuel tank could be pulled into a vacuum and collapse, the fuel vapor canister could become flooded and ruined, the catalytic converter could be damaged, and the exhaust emissions/error codes the vehicle would not pass an emissions inspection. This cannot pass emissions inspection. Ford's only response is "your 3 year warranty is up. It's your responsibility."

I give it a little extra gas on takeoffs and go really fast at times from 0 to 60 which is good for the transmission and should blow some of the carbon buildup on back of valves.

Do not baby this car, drive it like a manual... I even put it in L gear and run it up to 4,000 rpms just to scrub clutch... I’m expecting a call in the morning saying either my clutch is bad and the vehicle is safe to drive while your part is on back order for approximately 90 days, your release went out again, or I need a new transmission. I haven’t even put 12000 miles on the car! Every time I’m told this is normal and I probably just need a tcm reset or update and it ends up being something else. I’ve drove off the lot with the car doing the same thing it did when I took it there. I transport my child and wife in this car! Everyone I know says to ditch the thing.

All this in one year, this has got to be the most unsafe car I’ve ever driven. I’m so upside down in the thing because the value dropped almost $6000 since I bought it and I added extended warranty. When I get the car back it is going goodbye. Idc what it takes. It is embarrassing to have to get rides to work every other week because my 2013 car is broken down AGAIN and I can’t even get a damn loaner. Yea Ford really cares about their customer **! I will never buy another Ford period. They could give me one and I wouldn’t even give it away for free. They are so bad. Just ridiculous man seriously people work hard to afford these things and they don’t have the decency to own up and keep a loyal customer. Our only other car is a 99 explorer that just keeps chugging and they say they were known for issues HA! Found On Road Dead is such irony I’m a firm believer.

I just cannot get used to the overheating transmission and having to wait till it is ready to drive and all the pulling it does when accelerating. I took it in for servicing for the recall and after I took it in it's gotten worse. Now I need to replace the clutch and other things on the transmission and it's going to cost me over $2000. I bought a new 2013 Ford Focus 3 years ago. I have had continuous problems with the transmission and now I am having fuel tank problems. The transmission problem was due to a recall. I have brought the car into the Ford dealership 4 or 5 times and the problem is still not solved. Four months ago, the engine light came on. When I brought the car to the Ford dealer, I was told that there was an issue with the fuel tank. The capless filler inlet, for filling the gas tank, caused a vacuum that collapsed the gas tank. This is now causing the car to run out of gas when the fuel gauge is between 1/2 and 1/4 full. The car is also running very, very rough. The Ford dealer informed me that to fix this gas tank problem would cost me $2,000.00.

As I feel this is unacceptable in a 3 year old car, I called Ford Customer Service and was told that this problem is not on the recall list. I have researched this issue on the internet and have found that this is a problem with many Ford Focus vehicles. I was also told by the Ford dealer that if I lived in CA, this problem would be fixed by the dealer at no cost to me. I find this grossly wrong. Why should it matter where I live? There is either a design issue or not! I am extremely upset that I have to pay $2,000.00 to have the gas tank issue fixed for an apparent design problem because of where I live.

I bought a 2013 Ford Focus Titanium brand new in late 2013. The reason I bought it was because I needed something RELIABLE to get me back and forth to work, school, and home. I traded in an '89 Chevy that I had been toying around with when I was in the service, because it was more of a toy than a reliable car. My family has owned Ford Focus' in the past, and I even owned a 2007 which was everything I could have asked for in a car; it was reliable, got great gas mileage (35mpg or so) and it never broke down.

I have had this 2013 Ford Focus Titanium in and out of the shop now 4 times for transmission issues. The first three times, they told me they could not see what I was talking about, with the stuttering, hesitation, jerking, poor gas mileage (28mpg) and lack of acceleration. Each time they simply reset the computer and said "It needed to re-learn my driving habits." I decided to just live with it, as it is the only car I have. Don't get me wrong, it was never fixed, I just put up with it, and got used to it. Others would sit in the passenger seat and ask me "Why is it shifting like that?"

Here we are just over 30,000 miles and I barely made it in the dealership yesterday. By the time I parked the car, it would not even shift into reverse. I drove in first gear with my hazard lights on to the dealer. They have not had time to look at it today, but said they "think it's the TCM, as they've seen this before." I will not keep my mouth shut on this one because I feel I bought a lemon. This is now the fourth time in with the same complaint, except this time it is UNDENIABLE. This is unacceptable, and my father who has worked at Ford for the last 20 years is embarrassed he recommended this car to me.

I purchased this car brand new in March of 2015. The car was great and I loved it. Initially I had a terrible experience with keeping the tires inflated. It seemed every week or less I was having to put air in at least 1 tire. Finally, I spent nearly $1000.00 to replace the tires. Then all was good again until... two and a half weeks ago the check engine light came on. The car was having a difficult time shifting. So I took the car in to Ford for "repairs". All went well as far as them "repairing" the vehicle. However, a couple of days after I got it back, it started doing other things. When shifting gears at higher speeds, the car revved up light it was accelerating, but only momentarily. Then I noticed the shuddering that so many have complained about, particularly at the lower speeds or when taking off from a stop.

I also noticed when I started the car, it idled very high and loud for about a minute. I know I have a lot of miles on it, 80,000, but should a car act this way only when it's still so new? Should these additional issues that I am having be considered "coincidental" as stated by the service agent? Really? They are happening now after the so-called "repairs" were made?

This is my 4th Ford vehicle I've owned in my life and my 2nd brand new of the 4 I've owned. Yes, I owned a Pinto and a Ranger and neither one gave me issues like this even though they were several years old. My 1st new Focus never gave me issues and it was an SE model. Now I have this Titanium, top of the line in the Focus world and I have to deal with this? If this is Ford's way of deterring current customers to NOT purchase their vehicles in the future, it's working. I hope they will stand behind their product and fix a KNOWN issue along with the other issues that have "coincidentally" begun after the last repair.

I purchased my 2014 Ford Focus at Kirkland Ford on 9/4/13. Since that purchase date, I have had to have the clutch replaced three separate times over the time I have owned the car. The dates of the actual repair and replacement of the clutch are as follows: 1st Repair occurred on July 1, 2014, 2nd Repair occurred on May 14, 2015, 3rd Repair occurred on March 21, 2016, 4th Repair Pending Clutch/Transmission is slipping again. For each occurrence, I have had to make an appointment with the dealer, told the part was going to take between 60 and 90 days to order and be received by the dealer prior to installation and repair.

In each case, the time it took for the part to arrive at the dealer was in excess of 63-84 Days. During that time I continued to drive the car as recommended by my Service Advisor at the Dealership while the part was on order. As advised by the Ford Service Provider (prior to having the repair completed), I drove the car out of necessity to drive to work and take my Daughter to school, sporting events, etc. In each occurrence from a stop, the car would shimmy and shake out of first gear and into second gear resulting in a uncomfortable feeling while commuting and traveling to my designated and required destinations. This same situation occurred three times (see the repair dates above). In each occurrence, a loaner car was requested by me from the Ford Dealer, in each occurrence the request was denied.

I continued to drive my car in "substandard" running condition based on the length of time it took Ford to re-engineer, re-design, test and ship the part required for replacement (see description and part number of part above). During the duration of the repair I borrowed a car from a friend to get to work. The most recent occurrence began on or around 12/18 15. Again, the part took 12 weeks to arrive. Once the part arrived, the dealer replaced the part. After the repair was completed and I was notified to come and pick up my car, I drove out of the dealership (I picked the car up after hours at the Ford Service Center). I noticed that the car Idled and ran very rough, it did not do this any time prior to the most recent repair.

At that point, without another way to get home, I drove the car home and decided to address the issue the next day. The following day, I noticed the message center in the dash no longer worked. Immediately following the failure of the message center, the battery died and stranded me in a parking lot with my daughter. I had to call a friend to come and pick us up. I jumped my car and drove it to our neighborhood repair facility, this was closer than the Ford Dealer. That same evening, we decided (with the help of a friend) to bring it directly back to the dealer for an evaluation and repair. Since they had just replaced the clutch assembly, I thought it was a result of the repair as it did not have those issues prior to the repair or anytime while I owned the car.

After speaking to the Service advisor the following day, he told me I needed a new Wiring Harness and Top Motor Mount. The repair for those two items would cost in excess of $1,000. I questioned him about cost of the repair indicating that it did not have those problems with the instrument cluster OR the rough idling (this was a result of a broken top motor mount) prior to dropping the car off for the clutch replacement. The service advisor told me there was nothing more he could do and it would cost $1000 to repair the car. I then spoke to the service advisor, Service Manager and General Manager of the Dealership, they all indicated that were not going to put any more time or labor into the car.

I told them the issue with the message center and the motor mount did not exist prior to bringing the car in for the clutch replacement. They repeated that there was nothing more they would do to “come and get the car”. I am requesting replacement of this vehicle due to the multiple clutch failures and ongoing issues in a vehicle that is two years old.

I had researched since I know the Focus had some problems, and was under the impression the 2014 did not have that issue.

Since I purchased the car the shudder/stutter in the transmission has gotten progressively worse. I just got off the phone with the dealer after they had my vehicle all day, and they told me they have "reprogrammed the transmission and there was some small clutch slippage". All I can think at this point is "and so it begins." I am FULLY expecting this issue to happen again and I am devastated I traded in my NICE, reliable, valuable, CX-5. I will likely be trading the car in within the next couple months and I hate to say it, it probably won't be a Ford. I'm sad, scared, and annoyed because I also just bought my first house prior to that. I don't understand why for such a good company they have never done an official recall on this problem but continually push through half a** attempts at fixing it temporarily. Several trips to the dealership where they performed several software updates which were supposed to address the issue but never fix the sputtering/jerking. Car got worse in February 2016 and started to jump forward (as if popping the clutch on a standard). I was told the clutch needed to be replaced. However there was a 3 month wait. I contacted Ford and was able to get the clutch replaced within weeks. September rolls around and the car starts to sputter again and I call the dealership and have to wait almost a month for an appointment. They end up replacing the clutch again even though the car has under 20,000 miles.

After picking up the car I noticed it was much louder than before and you could feel and hear it shifting as if the car was lagging - not sputtering. Now the dealership is telling me the car is fine and within their threshold. I can't blame the dealership as they have done everything they can to assist in resolving this known issue. I am now stuck with a car that I owe more money on and they can't resolve the problem. I've reached out directly to Ford but they aren't helping. Like many others this issue has caused numerous hardships and inconveniences. Most notably I am stuck with a car that has known issues and if I were to trade this car in I would get considerably less than what I owe. I had hoped Ford would have done the right thing and assisted in correcting the issue or getting me into a new car. Neither has happened.

I took it into Harris Ford in Lynnwood, WA. They told me this model had a bad design, that it has a dual clutch system being shifted by a computer. They replaced my clutch and told me the problem would probably come back. I drove it for a little while, the problem did come back, it hesitates when starting from a stop, you can hear the car try to find the gear, (it's like someone who doesn't know how to drive a stick trying to find 1st gear- grinding). When it finally finds the gear it jerks and sputters.

I took it back in and the service rep told me they could do a software upgrade. It has now had two software upgrade and still has this problem. When I spoke with the Regional service manager for Ford, he basically said there was nothing they can do but give me a "family discount" on another car. I still owe on this lemon! I owe more than its worth! But I'm stuck with this POS because Ford doesn't want to step up and admit they made a huge mistake?!? Well this was my first "new" certified used car from Ford. I bought it with approximately 40,000 miles on it. Within the first few weeks I felt the shudder as I would come from a stop. Was first told by a Ford dealer to clean out the clutch plates by taking it on the interstate and gunning the engine to 95 miles per hour, which sounded absolutely ridiculous in the first place. I then took the car in to have the clutch replaced at 50,000 miles, at a different dealership nonetheless. The car is a vehicle that is driven everyday, by myself or other people in my family, including a dialysis patient. Took the car in last week to check on the shudder again, now it turns out the clutch is going again, after being told by the service worker at the dealership that I drive it too much. I'm sorry I didn't know that you weren't supposed to drive a car that you have financed. It's supposed to sit in the driveway and collect dust and bird crap.

Now they want me to pay 1200 dollars to fix a part that is faulty from the beginning. There is absolutely no way I'm going to pay 1200 dollars every 6 months for a new clutch when I have a 5 year loan on the car. That's 12,000 dollars! I only owe 9,600 dollars on my loan. So what am I supposed to do with it when the parts are inferior and Ford refuses to help fix the problem?

First, the good. The dealership has been supportive and easy to work with, especially since they're inundated with these lemon cars. They've repaired the car as best they can several times, and I've not been charged for the fixes. That exhausts the good news. The bad: I bought this 2012 Focus SEL new in August 2012. It is now getting ready to go in the shop for the FOURTH time for clutch/transmission problems. The recall has been serviced - TWICE. The PCM has been reprogrammed at least 3 times already, and in addition to the recall work (they're replacing seals, not much more) the entire clutch assembly has been replaced at least once (it may have been twice - to be honest, I no longer remember). THE CAR ONLY HAS 63000 MILES ON IT.

The mechanics at the dealership have been brutally honest and I believe they're doing their best, which makes the situation actually MORE dire, since it leaves me with only one conclusion: the car cannot really be repaired. All of you know the drill - transmission slips, brake fluid levels (it shares a reservoir with the clutch assembly) report as too low, shudder on takeoff from a stop. The resale value has understandably cratered - I paid 20K for the car in 2012, and would be doing good to get 6 now. As it is, I would feel guilty selling it to someone else, knowing what I know, and I'm in no hurry to give Ford any more of my money.

At this point the only thing I can honorably do is get it fixed (AGAIN), and hope its next failure is at 99,500 miles, so I can hit them up for one last repair before it becomes my expensive problem. At that point, I'll probably donate it to charity. The sad fact is, it's actually a fun car to drive and gets great gas mileage. If Ford could have fixed it, I would gladly have kept it for years to come, and likely would have bought another.

It's clear Ford has a safety issue with it's Powershift transmission. I currently have 77,000 kms on this vehicle and am on a wait-list for my 5th replacement/service call on my transmission/clutch. There is a backlog to get the part followed with a waitlist for a service tech available to install it. Why? There is a backlog of repeated replacements - they cannot keep up with it. This leaves myself and others waiting for the repair, forced to drive around in the problematic and unsafe car, or park it and find alternative means of transportation. I purchased this car with the intent to rely upon it for daily transportation.

Extending the warranty from 60,000 kms to 210,000 kms indicates Ford is aware there is a problem but refuses to fix it, leaving it's customer's stuck with a death trap waiting to happen. I'm fed up and frustrated with the lack of accountability Ford is being held to, and I'm not alone. A company should not get away with selling such hazardous product to consumers, and not be held accountable when it's brought to light. The service department at the Ford dealer said that this is a well-known, common problem with the later Focus models; it even has a name: "shudder on take-off". The clutch was replaced for free, although I had to wait five months for the dealership to receive the part. They also updated the software, which they said should alleviate the problem. The car drove fine for a while, but now, just one year after that, the problem is back, and I am worried about the safety of driving it. Just the other day, I took a left in front of oncoming traffic, and even though I gave myself plenty of time to complete the turn, the car chugged, creating a near miss situation with the oncoming traffic.

I took the car back to the dealer, and they recommend another clutch replacement. However, this time, they will not pay for the repair. It will cost me $1220 plus tax. My car has 64,000 miles, which is outside the warranty by 4,000 miles, and the warranty for the new clutch I received last year expired on 9/9/16. When I complained, the dealership recommended that I call Ford Customer Service.

After calling Ford, a service case was received by my dealership's service manager, and I have been offered a $400 credit. Thanks a lot. So, every year, I should expect to shell out a minimum of $800 just to keep replacing this clutch. I called Ford Customer Service again, and was told that "regrettably", there is nothing else they can offer me, and since each Ford dealership is independently owned, it is up to them to offer to replace the clutch for free. Way to honor your customers and stand behind your dealers, Ford.

I just checked Kelley Blue Book, and the re-sale value of my car is already only $5500-$6500, so either I get rid of this junker now after paying $20k for it brand new just a few years ago, or pay an equivalent amount just to keep replacing the clutch year after year for the next 7 years, which is the amount of time I'd hoped and expected a new car to last. Either way, I feel I have been cheated.

On top of that, my husband also purchased a 2014 Ford Focus, after being assured by the salesman that the clutch issue had been solved, and the cars being sold at the time no longer suffer this problem. My husband's car's clutch has also already been replaced once, with only 32,000 miles on it. My family has been supportive of Ford, and 5 of my intermediate family members currently own brand new Ford vehicles. Ford has manufactured a poor quality product, and refuses to make things right with customers. Like Ford's warranty, our loyalty to this brand has expired, and we are not interested in making amends.

I have a 2012 Ford Focus and it has been a problem ever since I got it. What's even worse is the customer service from the dealership service department. The transmission went out in the car (no reverse) and thankfully it was under a recall/customer satisfaction replacement so it was "updated" for no charge. Now my display screen now does not work and they are telling me that the extended warranty expired 6 months ago so now I have to pay $790 to replace it. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS A WARRANTY ABOUT TO EXPIRE! When I picked up my car after paying $140 for it to be diagnosed that the screen doesn't work (thanks for telling me what I already know and charging me $150 for it) they did not offer to replace it while they still had my car there nor did they offer to set up an appointment for it to be replaced.

NOT only that but they noted in the paperwork that I was missing a lug nut... Did they replace it? NO. Did they ask me if they could replace it? NO! They also noted that I had a burned out tail light... Did they ask me if they could replace it while they had it there?! NO THEY DID NOT! I live an hour away and have to do all kinds of juggling to drop my car off the night before, leave it there for the day and then pick it up after work then drive an hour home... NO CARE WAS GIVEN FOR ME AS THE CUSTOMER!

To top it off this morning when I looked at the floor of the passenger side I saw that they did NOT even put my car back together! There was a tool pushed between the seat and the center console and a panel that goes under the glove box area and two bolts laying on the floor... SO NOW WHAT?! I either have to try to fix it myself or go through ALL the hassle of taking my car back to the service department that obviously does not care about their quality of work or their customers. I think I'm done with Ford! They apparently are not concerned with the fact that the car has multiple known issues by the manufacture and that they are sending a customer on a wild goose chase to have their car fixed. To think I was planning on buying a new Ford Focus in June... NOT ANYMORE!

Where do I begin... After reading all of these awful reviews about Ford. I'm now realizing that I am not alone with this issue. I own a 2012 Ford Focus. I've had it almost 3 years now. 1 month after purchasing the car it was brought back to the dealership for shutter clutch issue. They couldn't fix it or pinpoint the problem (or so they said). It's been in and out of Balise Ford several times for me complaining about the bad shutter clutch problem. Last October 2015 it was finally fixed. Driving like a totally different car... I loved it. Now suddenly exactly a year later October 2016. The shutter problem is back again. It shakes bad whenever I hit 2000 rpms. Even worse if I'm stopped at a red light and start to go. Sometimes the car doesn't even want to move. Yesterday I go back to Balise Ford to let them know the problem is back a year later. He said unfortunately it's not covered under warranty any longer... It's a 2,500 problem to fix. Seriously!!!

I have a 5 year old and work weekends only. I do not have or will ever have 2500 to keep fixing this issue. If it's a known Ford problem with these cars... Why isn't this a recall yet? Mind you... I have a recall on the car as we speak for new door handles. DOOR HANDLES??? Why don't you recall my messed up transmission!! I don't understand how Ford is getting away with making messed up no good transmissions and aren't taking responsibility for it. The consumer always gets screwed. What are we all doing about this issue? Because I'm not going to allow myself to be totally screwed. I'll call a lawyer. Attorney general. Better Business Bureau. Whatever it takes. Initially I thought the shuddering was from me "gassing it" too hard but I would be pulling out a driveway going no more than 5-10 mph and it would shudder. I would be at a stop light and when it would turn green it would shudder or jerk. I have noticed, passengers have noticed it. Ford sent a letter in May/June 2016 saying to bring the car in to have the "main computer" reprogrammed, 3 hours of work and it STILL jerked and shuddered.

I did my research and found that people with 2011-newer Ford Focuses and Ford Fiestas have the same issue, some have filed class-action lawsuits or filed Lemon Law in their states. I purchased my 2013 Focus SE with 42k miles on it. When I first got the car it drive great. I loved the car, especially the gas mileage! Then everything went downhill quick. First I noticed the shutter when taking off. Took it to the dealership and they say this is a common issue and they need to re-program the pcm and it should solve the issue. So after the pcm had been reprogrammed the car went back to drive nice and smooth. That lasted about a week. Take it back to the dealership and they were not surprised one bit. So, they suggest replacing the clutches. So, after the clutches are replaced the car ran great for about a month. Started shuttering again and shifting hard. Took it back, once again they are not surprised that I am back. They said the next step would be a new transmission and I refuse because it's the exact same one with the known issues.

No sense in going without a car, or being in a loaner when they are just going to replace junk with junk. Yes I am stubborn. Last time I had it in the shop was about 4 months ago. I've recently developed more issues with the car. The shutter is still there and definitely worse than ever and now when shifting through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, each gear just grinds so loud I can hear it with the windows rolled up and the radio on. Also at times when backing up it feels like it's going to die. It has a hard time shifting to 2nd gear, it just revs. Going up a hill is just embarrassing. And every other complaint anyone has ever discussed, I have the same issue. I am a dedicated Ford owner and have owned nothing but Fords, and this is the first vehicle I have ever had ANY issue with. I'm upset. What's odd too is I have never had any warning light come on. I really hope Ford recalls this transmission, maybe even the entire car!

In July 2015 I purchased a new 2015 Ford Focus Titanium car. I was sooo excited! I had heard such good things about the Focus I didn't even think about researching before buying. About 5000 miles in I noticed the car shuttering on take off and while driving. My husband called Mountain View Ford where we purchased the car and the service person said it was normal and to get more miles on the car it should straighten itself out. A few months later it started shuttering, jerking, changing gears. The throttle was slow to react on take off. We took it in to have it looked at and was told the computer couldn't find anything. They reprogrammed the transmission stuff and I picked the car up. It ran smooth a week and started shuttering again and was slow to react on take off. This time my husband was driving when it jerked. He heard the leaky valve sound going up the hill in our neighborhood.

We took it back in and a day later they called to say the rear main seal was leaking oil on the clutch. They ordered a part and reprogrammed the car again. The car ran smooth about three weeks. My husband was driving it up a hill and it started shuttering and jerked real hard. So hard our heads jerked. We made another appointment. While waiting for that appointment we received a call from the dealership congratulating us for our 1 year anniversary. The man asked how we liked our car and my husband told him about the issues. He suggested we contact Ford that he thought Ford should replace our car after already having a rear main seal leaking and only having 13000 miles on it.

My husband called Ford and was told "It sounds like you will get your car replaced." They transferred him to a case manager type person who told him it will NOT be replaced, Ford will continue to fix it while under warranty and then we have to pay for it AND we should just join the class action lawsuit. We had to cancel that service appointment due to conflicting appointments. It's hard for a family of 4 with 2 working parents to have only 1 vehicle. The day of the appointment we had to cancel, I was driving home from work and had to stop suddenly. The car didn't down shift. It felt like the transmission fell out of the car. The entire car shook and it scared me to death!! I was in traffic and had no choice but to continue (amazingly the car was still running). While driving up the hill in my neighborhood it seemed as though the car forgot what gear it was going to and revved up. I can now hear the leaky valve sound again!

I called Ford and spoke to our claim manager person and she said she will work with the dealership to get my car back in good wiling order. I have an appointment to drop the car off tomorrow for servicing. Again our family will be down to 1 car for knows how long. We have tried to trade the car but can't because we are so upside down in it!!! I blame the dealership Mountain View Ford for not informing us of the dual clutch transmission and how it works. The service department has told us over and over that is how that transmission is suppose to work to get the great gas mileage!

I paid $26,000 for this car. I am afraid to drive the car for fear of it hesitating on take off and someone hitting me or getting whiplash from all the hard jerking it does!! For that much money I want it to run smooth and drive smooth. If I wanted to feel like I was driving a straight shift car I would have bought one!!!! I can drive a straight shift and not jerk my head around!! Don't buy a Ford Focus!!!

Ford accepts that it is the model which has fault. I think I lost my money and need to spend money to dispose the car. If FORD can get the car back for free I am happy to return it to them. Do someone help me pointing to the right person who can help me to get my money back from FORD?

I purchased a Ford Focus from another car dealer but they did not give me a second key. They talk as if they lost the key. Then I contacted Ford corporate and explained to them. They told me to contact the dealer where I bought it from. I told Ford that I tried. Then they had a manager to contact me and she just flat out told me "NO" that they could do nothing. Then I sent them an email and their customer service told me that they did everything they could do. I sent her another email back stating that they did NOTHING and I really thought since they were the corporate and I was a new customer and NEVER purchased a ford that they would work with me, SHE DID NOT RESPOND BACK. FORD IS HORRIBLE. They DO NOT work with their customers especially if they are a new customer. I am very, very DISAPPOINTED with FORD.

I bought my Ford Focus car new in April 2013. I have taken it into the shop many times for the transmission not shifting properly and the jerking when taken off. The dealership reset the controls but the problem has never been fixed. I was told I have to learn how to drive my car. Really? Sunday, I broke down (everything shut down on my car) 120 miles away from home on a late Sunday evening and had my car towed home since I couldn't stay in the area to get my car fixed.

I had it towed to my local Ford dealership (Jackson Ford, Decatur, IL) on Monday and have been without wheels the entire week due to the issue. They haven't even given me a loaner car to help me out. No clue when the part is to come in since it's on back order. After paying $620 on towing which I can't get reimbursed either, I don't have the funds to rent a car. It has put my entire life in chaos with taking my car into the shop constantly and unable to get the problem fixed. One story after another. I don't know how much longer I can deal with this.

In the 4 years I have owned this car it has been in the dealer repair shop over 10 weeks. The last time it was there 8 weeks. I experience shuddering after about 20000 miles. Many trips to the dealer proved that they could not find anything wrong. Finally a dealer in another town told me it was the automatic clutch was not engaging properly. In December of 2015 the dealer replaced the clutch but said it appeared to be leaking oil. They said there had been problems with the clutches. They were going to reorder the clutch but it was on a 16-week back order. In late Feb. 2016 I got a warning message that said Service Transmission Soon. The car was completely locked up. I got the car started by a tow truck driver and drove home instead of going to the dealer since it was Friday evening and they were closed until Monday AM.

By Saturday AM there was NO OIL IN THE CAR. On Monday my car was towed in and kept for 8 weeks. They put a new engine in the car (had received two engines that were damaged) and THREE CLUTCHES until they found the one that seemed to work. On Friday driving home from a short vacation the Service Transmission Soon Warning light came on twice. Trying to get to the dealer did not work since the Transmission HOT STOP car immediately warning came on. The car had to be towed 50 miles at a cost of $275. My Ford Roadside assistance paid $75. It is now again in the dealership. Service Manager said he is getting weird readings on the Transmission. Waiting to see what Ford will do. Since this is a 2013 car with 78000 miles it supposedly does not qualify under the "lemon law."

I bought this car Ford Focus 2012 Titanium in Feb. 2013 with almost 7,000 on it. Now I really don't know much about cars so I didn't pay much attention to the shudder because the car was new. I figured it couldn't have any problems. In 2014 I received the recall letter and was astonished. I knew my car felt exactly as they described so I brought the straight to the dealership. The dealership had my car from Sept. 5, 2014 to Oct. 3, 2014. They refused to give me a loaner. I got my car back with a dead battery and the navigation wasn't working so I had to buy a battery and they wanted to charge me for the navigation system which was also a recall.

Oh and my motor had a crack on rear seal before I brought it in. In 2015 at the end of June they replaced the transmission module. My car is now back at the dealership because it wouldn't shift into gear in the middle of the road. I had to get it towed in and pay an extra $45 dollars which they are replacing the clutch and transmission module again. But for what to happen again. I have a Ford Focus loaner with a shudder, so I'm in danger driving no matter what car they give me. I would rather have a refund. I really used to love Ford. My cousin even owned a dealership.

I bought a brand new Ford Focus 2014. Well it does have good gas mileage but the ride on short, stop and start parts of your drive are horrible. It will rattle your teeth and hurt your bones when you stop and then try to move through the slow to fast speeds the whole cars gets to jerking horribly. Took it to Ford and they say there is nothing wrong with it. Needless to say I have been talking people out of getting a Ford instead of into one. I don't want anyone to go through what I am going through. The worst part is I have kidney stones and with all this rattling it hurts to drive. I have lost the love of driving because of this car.

I bought a brand new Ford Focus SE in 2012. My check engine light went up two weeks ago and I wasn't able to accelerate normally. Since it's too dangerous to drive my car for long distance so I brought it to the nearest dealer. Though I saw 90% of their reviews were negative I thought how bad it could be. Then they ended up BLOWING my mind. I brought my car there on a Friday and was told it will be done on Monday. Then they just disappeared after that. I kept calling everyday and got the same answer: "The technicians need to do another test. We will get back to you tomorrow."

Then I contacted the Ford customer service and got assigned with a regional manager. I was promised a call and didn't get it on time. I ended up reaching out again and connected with the manager. The manager called the dealer and then told me that he was informed that the car was done and was ready to be picked up. I called right away and received a completely different version, which was the answer I've been hearing about for two weeks. So I told the regional manager and he promised a call "tomorrow" which is today and I haven't been contacted. Then I reached out and was directly sent to voice message. HA... I wish I can give negative stars. It's worse than nightmare because nightmare doesn't last this long.

I have a 2014 Ford Focus SE. I got it on 9/25/14. Ever since I had this car I been having problems out of my transmission, but they say it's my clutch. The first time I took it up there they said they had to reset my transmission. The next time I took it they said I had a leak in my motor that's why it is doing it then whenever I go get my car they said it is leaking because of my clutch so they said they were going to fix that but I never fixed it. I will never get a Ford car anymore because I hate going through this. I feel like I'm paying all of this money for this car and it should not be messing up. I just want a stable car because I have children.

I am a 52 year old woman who is by myself with one teenage son left at home. I purchased a new 2014 Ford Focus brand new. I've had nothing but problems. I cannot depend on this car. The only good thing I can say about it is that it gets good gas mileage. That's it. I've had problems with the transmission, the clutch, hesitation, shaking and stalling. I take it back to the dealer and they tell me that's just the way it is or they fix something and then a couple weeks later it's not running properly again. I am so dissapointed especially because my husband works at Ford Motor Co. What an embarrassment.

I can't %100 that my issue has been resolved, but I do have an update. After hassling Ford Motor Company and the service manager at my local Ford he finally agreed to reimburse me for the amount I had to pay after I got my car towed when the 'transmission overheating' error occurred. After the TCM module failed again they finally decided to replace the dual clutches. The new clutches installed have a 12,000mile/12 month (whichever comes first) warranty. After over a year of having issues with this Focus I am hoping this will work because it is my last resort.

    Original Review: June 7, 2016

I wrote a review about a year ago about the numerous issues I was having with my 2013 Ford Focus, just a few months I had purchased it with about 40,000 miles on it. I regret not doing my research on the car prior to purchasing it! My initial issues were lunging, shaking and terrible jerking. That was still covered under warranty so I took it to Ford and they told me the computer wasn't syncing with the transmission, so they claimed to have fixed it. Not long after they 'fixed it' I had the same exact issue so they updated the issue again. This time it seemed to have worked. Fast forward a few months later I'm on my way to Mountain High resort in Southern California and all of a sudden the car starts to pop up a 'transmission overheating' signal after being in traffic for a couple hours. The car stayed on but would NOT move in drive so I ended up getting it towed back to my house.

Mind you I had to pay full cost for the towing. I take it back to Ford, they claim that the transmission wasn't exactly overheating but that the computer was sending out the signal, which was incorrect so they modified and updated the system which should have fixed the issue, NO. Just a couple days ago while in traffic on my way to San Diego it did the SAME exact thing and I had to pay for it to be towed once again! I took it to Ford and they said there was an update that needed to be programmed and that is why it was sending out that signal and stalling. The service adviser also mentioned that with these cars Focus/Fiesta that after being in stop and go traffic for a while the computer will start to receive a signal that the transmission is overheating when it really isn't. While my car is under 100,000 they will continue to cover it but tough ** when I have to repeatedly get it towed every time it stalls on me and it's bound to happen again.

Ford Motor Co. has now created a case for me and I'm waiting on a response from a service manager about me getting my tow money back and seeing what the hell I'm supposed to do once this car is out of warranty. I will keep you all updated. Please, do your research before purchasing ANY vehicle because you could very much be in the same situation as me.

    UPDATED 3/23/18

I've been posting on C.A about my 2013 Ford Focus since 2015 and finally this year after about 9 months of my lawyer dealing with Ford, Ford decided to settle. Giving me all my monthly payments back, paying off the car and paying my attorney fees. Do NOT give up! They still are allowed to sell these garbage cars and need to be stopped. Keep all your repair orders as well because dealers will make it VERY hard (impossible) to give you a copy if you lose it. You need them to build a case.

I purchased my 2015 Ford Focus in June. My car is a year old. I have had my windshield replaced. My steering wheel column was fixed because it wasn't attached properly. My driver side door was repainted because of a paint defect. Now I need a new clutch and more paint repair by the back brake light from paint coming off. Sometimes my windshield wipers stop out of nowhere. I've called Ford Canada and have had no help. I'm at Ford so much they know me by name and joke you again. My reason is to let people know about Ford and my dissatisfaction with my car.

I purchased my 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback used with 30K miles and added an extended warranty which covered until 70K miles. Since I purchased the vehicle I have been hearing the grinding noises with the transmission. I took it because the wheel bearing went out at about 50K miles. I started having trouble with the car starting. The key turns but nothing happens. It isn't the battery. I read it has to do with the transmission control module. This had been happening for about a month.

Today I was driving to Dallas, I was driving about 75 mph, the transmission shuddered and I lost acceleration, the check engine light came on. I barely made it to my sister's home but I was afraid of getting stranded, the transmission won't shift into gears, it does so very slowly. I can't drive on the highway and I'm not sure how I will get back home, I live 8 hours or about 500 miles from here. I'm visiting family out of town. I've already taken the car in three time to have it checked, have had the transmission reconfigured and the clutch replaced. I don't know what to do, the car is no longer reliable. I'm afraid it will leave me stranded.

I have had my car for less than a year. I have less than 36,000 miles and I have had 2 transmission parts put in. Each time they tell me the same thing. It's the car, it's a recall. I was even told I drive it too soft, need to be more aggressive. I just got it back and the same thing is happening, RPM going high. Shuttering, and not shifting. My question you see all these complaints all the same, people almost wrecking, injuring children. What is Ford doing about this besides putting the same part in? The best part is now the part is on backorder for weeks. I almost wrecked this past time. I can't trade it in because all the dealers know about the issues and won't give me even close to what I owe. What is being done by Ford?
