I purchased a 2012 focus with 35,000 miles on it. At about 41,000 miles the power steering would fail as I backed out of the driveway or while I was driving down the street. I could still steer the car, however the power steering warning would come on, and once I parked the car the power steering would return to normal, before randomly doing it again. I took it into the dealership to be told they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. It finally quit for good at 61,053 miles (1,053 miles over the warranty). I was told I was out of luck. Even though it had been seen for the issue. My transmission went out at 70,000 miles, and is going out again at 130,000 miles. Plain and simple, don’t purchase a Focus unless you want more in repair bills than you paid for the car itself.

Bought my Focus 2014 certified. Well I've had 80000 miles on it when my catalytic converter went out. Took to the dealership and was told it wasn't covered. Later found out it had been but they wouldn't pay for it because the 100000 warranty had expired but had extended warranty. I'm still waiting to get called for a recall on latch. Dont think they will even call me. The latest is the transmission shudders a lot. Every time I've taken it in I'm told it's normal. Normal my butt. And the power steering has went out 3 times but I'm told it's working fine. I believe this power steering is a major safety issue and Ford needs to Fix these vehicles before someone gets killed. I drive store to store daily and don't want to be the one that loses her life to get them to recall and fix it. Doesn't anybody at Ford know what truth is??? I think not.

Updated on 12/14/2018: Ford Motor Company is a joke. Just so we are all clear. We have been put through the ringer and nothing has been done for our 2014 Ford Focus. There is a class action lawsuit against them for an issue with the transmission/clutch. This problem is a $1500 repair. This has happened a total of 3 times now and we have hired a lemon law attorney and Ford refused any negotiation. We have tried contacting Ford ourself and they won’t work with us privately. We have now had to resort to small claims court.

To top it all off, we received a notice from Ford that there is another recall on this same vehicle. A completely different issue. Ford is refusing to make this right. I’m completely disappointed in this company and just wanted to publicly state that. We don’t have much money and the money we have we work hard for. This is very frustrating. We can’t sell the vehicle because it’s not worth anything now and we are only a year from having it paid off. We really don’t want to start all over on a new car loan. When someone buys a brand new car, you expect that it will run and be reliable. Well apparently not if you buy a Ford vehicle.

Original review: We bought the 2014 Ford Focus in January 2015. The car was new. We had a transmission slipping issue, was covered by our warranty. We then had this same issue 2 more times. A total of 3 times. We were informed by the dealership this is a manufacturer's mistake and put a manual clutch in an automatic transmission and this issue will continue to happen. There is no real fix. Contacted Ford, no options given. Told they would cover it till my warranty is use then after that, it’s my issue to fix. This clutch assembly can cost $1500-$1800 to fix each time. So far it goes out yearly. Why can’t people just do the right thing? Instead of keeping a lifetime customer, you now have lost one.

2013 Ford Focus with transmission clutch problem. Ford extended the problem up to 100k miles. My vehicle had 101282 miles and Ford would not honor it. 1282 miles over and they would honor it knowing it was a major issue that they messed up on, I thought they could have good faith honor considering it was only 242 miles over. Screw Ford.

I have to rate the Ford Focus the bottom in quality of vehicles we've owned. The reason I say this is that we've bought two Focuses for our daughters, a 2012 and 2013 models, for them while they are and were in their college years. From the beginning we've had nothing but trouble, transmission wise, with both vehicles. It all pertains to the automatic transmissions and their problems of slipping from first to second gear. Up until today, 12 August, 2018, both vehicles have had their transmissions rebuilt twice each. Today, our 2013 Focus would not even go into gear and had to be towed to the Ford dealership. This is a total of five times that, between both vehicles, they have had to spend days in the shops having transmission work.

The mechanics that we've spoken to at the Ford dealership are aware of these issues. They say that it is a common, known mechanical issue with the years and models. The inconvenience of having to take time off from work and headaches from dealing with these issues is not worth it. The vehicles are great looking cars and are good with price for starter vehicles for a high school or college student. The mechanical issues and the headaches that go along with these issues make the Ford Focus a bad buy. If I had to recommend a starter car for anyone starting out, until the Ford Motor Company does something with the transmission issues, I highly do not advise anyone to buy this vehicle.

Bought the car in May 2013. Was driving to Florida Jan 24, 2015 (18,397 miles). Car lost power on I-95 to Florida, Ford came and towed the car to Burns Ford Mercury in Lancaster SC (603 286 4414). Car lost power on I-95 going south. Burns had to keep the car overnight and got it fixed the next afternoon. Repaired wiring Harness. Car seemed to work ok for a bit. Jan 3, 2017 car lost power and one would not put the car in gear. Had it towed to Champion. Ford kept the until Jan 31. 1st they replaced the clutch and then realized there was an issue with the transmission. Lost the transmission they ordered (?), had to order another. Replaced the transmission with a New transmission not a rebuilt (was told they usually use rebuilds for cars under warranty), A case was open with Annette at Ford (**) at the end Annette offered an extended warranty for a additional 3 years (36,00 miles).

Feb 17 car made a whining noise and then there was another noise. Took the car back to Champion but they could not look at it right away. I was leaving for Florida, so they kept the car for 2 ½ weeks, Came back, told me they heard no noise. April 7, 2017 the car had the same issues as Jan 3. (new case no.**). Could barely get it into gear and it made a terrible shaking and jerking noise. Had it towed (again) to Champion where I picked up another loaner. Was told there was an issue with the NEW transmission. I called Annette (April 9) to tell her that the car issue was not resolved. She told me Ford did as much as could. AND the file was closed. I did ask if I got a lemon, her tone changed, got very defensive and read me what the PA Lemon laws were but did not tell me any updates to the law.

Finally got the car back April 27. They rebuilt the transmission and did work on the clutch, which was fixed on Jan 3. I have a very strong feeling that there is no fix to the issues. I paid for the clutch in January, just after I paid for the clutch. They came out with a recall BUT only for automatics (?). I got a notice from Ford and was told it did not apply to my car by Champion. If it did not apply why did I get the notice. Same issues that are going on with the automatics are going on with manual cars. So obviously there has been problems and Complaints.

I tried to solve this issue with the Ford Family but not happy with the outcome. I feel the car is unsafe to drive as it gives no signals when this loss of power and clutch does not work. No lights. Just stops working. What would happen on the freeway or if one was making a turn on a busy street. I go out of town and cannot take this car. My request is for you to reimburse me for the cost of the clutch AND to do a buyback.

I've had nothing but good experiences with this car. It's perfect for a family like mine. I have drove it in winter and it handled better than my old truck did. So I had to test the brakes and they work perfectly. I know my kids are safe because I almost got in an accident and had to push the brakes real fast and my kids barely jerked out of their seats. I love that it has a back-up camera when I back up I can see everything behind me. Especially when I'm trying to park backing up it will beep if I'm out of the line and it has red and yellow arrows to show me where to go.

It has a phone built into where I can have my hands on the wheel and talk on the phone at the same time. I can also send text messages. I like that it gets Hot fast especially in the winter, but it cools off just as fast. But I don't like the backup noise. Every time you put it in reverse it makes it really really loud beeping sound. And I wish it had heated seat switch. I also don't like that I can't control all the stations with the steering wheel because it doesn't work right.

I love my Ford Focus. It's a great family car that's for sure. It has had all kinds of trips and it still going. It gets good highway mileage. However, I would like to be able to put different size tires on it. The Ford that I own only has low profile tires on it and that's the only size tire that can go on it. But other than that, I love the fact that it has 2 different places to anchor car seats. One is where the seat is and the other one is located where the back glass is. The anchors for the car seats is what made me want the Ford Focus over my other car. It was older and it didn't have the option for the anchors.

My experience with Ford Focus has been nothing but great and I always recommend Ford now. I haven't had an issue with it in the 3 years I've owned it. I love the car completely. I love the size and style of the exterior along with the features on the dash. It's just a flashy car, that's the right size, has lots of room for a small car, and runs very well. But not worrying about all the door latch recalls would be nice.

Wonderful experience. I love my car. The color of the car is a glittery charcoal and it is very pretty. The car is small, but also very fuel efficient. Great gas mileage, great turning radius, and comfortable. Great stereo system as well. I want to get a newer model in the near future. Although an improvement they could make to the car is to make the leg room in the backseat bigger. It is a four door car but the backseat is impractical for passengers.

Ford Focus was a very good car. It was a 2003, I bought it in 2004. It had 1 previous owner. It was my daily driven/work vehicle. It even took me to Arkansas and back (home to Florida) one time. I liked the air conditioning, cd player, power windows and locks, remote key entry (doors and trunk). It was in my price range. All my life my parents owned Fords, so it was a familiar brand to me. It was silver which is one of my favorite colors. But, I would have liked to have window tint, maybe a better sounding factory stereo. Also, it was a little bit slow on the pick up speed (acceleration)... Would like it to have been more like a 6 cylinder...

The 2001 Ford Focus was purchased used . From a friend. It was available and the price was right and the person who I bought it from allowed me to make small payments. It also was very well maintained by that person. It was just a filler need as I needed a second vehicle very badly. It is a very basic line car. And because it is an older model I find I'm spending a lot of money to repair and maintain that. It is hard to see it has very large blind spots. And I don't particularly like having a long wagon vehicle. I wish that they would do better with some of the mechanicals. Several of the window motors of gone out and silly things like that.

If I am recalling the correct Ford model (2014), then this batch of vehicles were all given a faulty part in need of replacement, which was an extra cost. The car was bought used, but still has, other than the faulty part, worked fine. It is comfortable although the headrests are quite large and difficult to see over, but the car is functional after having had the part replaced. I had had one of these vehicles in the past and liked its comfort and design. Already having owned a car like it before, I knew what I was looking for, but did not expect the faulty part. I would definitely, absolutely fix this car model's faulty part if I could, and I was would also definitely shrink the headrests, if only slightly, so they do not cause vision purposes for the driver, especially drivers with bad eyes.

The car was affordable and nice at the time. Large backseat, large trunk space, great for travel, great cause nobody would want to steal it, great open views outside car you have clear view for driving and horn works great. It's loud as hell. However, it's ugly. The seat belts don't always latch, radio goes in and out, seats are bucket style which I hate, the color interior sucks, the car had rust already, hard to keep hood up, don't have stay up hood and the window motor goes out all the time.

I actually had a 2005 Ford Focus before this 2016 Ford Focus so that's why I went with it! I like that it has Spotify and a back up camera! Also I enjoy how fast the heater and cooler turn on and work right away, makes me feel good about choosing this car. Also I love how it comes with two different levers to put your seat backwards or push it forwards, it's handy to deal with. However, I would add heated seat warmers because it doesn't have any! Also, I would make the window tint a bit more darker than how they come. If you naturally Tint windows at least do the favor of making it noticeable.

I have had to repair this vehicle many times. I've had to make sure that I stay on top of things because if not it makes bigger problems. But it does save gas. It is good for long distance drives. Overall has been a good car once everything is fixed. I also like this over others because of the gas mileage. I like how it has cruise control, seat warmers, alerts with what is wrong with the car or what needs to be done soon. However, I don't like how it's so hard to get the lights to go off after the car is fixed. However, I have had to replace and have the generator worked on two times once under warranty and another time after the warranty had expired. The interior of the car is cramped in places as well. Ford has known about their "Electric Power Assist" problems for many years and have had several of their models recalled. However, they REFUSE to do anything about the Ford Focus which have many complaints about the same problem (Steering Problems). WHY? I am wondering if those of us who own a Ford Focus should get a class action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company for deliberately putting people's lives at risk with a KNOWN PRODUCT DEFECT and refusing to do anything about it. Complaints have been going on for YEARS about this issue with this model car, and NOTHING has been done to correct it. Again, WHY?

I am a Senior Citizen who relies on this vehicle, and the Steering Assist malfunction code is constantly on. This puts my life at risk, as well as others, and I have done research about the cost to "fix" this problem, OVER $1,000 (One Thousand) dollars. Some places/dealers will charge up to OVER $2,000 (Two Thousand) dollars for the same "fix". I will NEVER buy another Ford product because of their refusal to recall a KNOWN, LIFE ENDANGERMENT Defect after YEARS of complaints.

Car has good handling ability and turn radius. I am glad that after 8 years, engine and transmission are still original although transmission slips occasionally. For size, interior is fairly roomy and trunk has good capacity. But this car is a piece of junk cosmetically. Cheap plastic pieces fall or break with normal use. The Air conditioning unit always worked poorly. Now, it works almost not at all even though I replaced all components twice. Cost me a ton of money trying to get it to work but does not come out cold in hot Texas summers, though it is fully charged. Mirrors, Bumpers, Interior plastic pieces have all been replaced and repaired multiple times. Gas mileage is decent although it is declining after 8 years.

The car also has very loud road noise during ride. Cant do much about it but play radio loudly. The tires that came with the car blew out within the first month. Had to replace all of them for safety. The coating applied to the windshield caused a permanent glaze that made it glare. It was very hard to get off and took over a year to wear off. As silly as it sounds, one of my favorite features is the automatic lights! It is nice to have them turn on immediately when needed. I also really like having some controls on the steering wheel. I am always listening to music and when my kids start talking, it is easy to just move a finger for volume control without letting go of the wheel!

This might not be relevant in the end, but I am struggling with syncing my phone. It is really confusing for me, BUT I am that way with a lot of tech. But I do wish there was some less complex explanations of some of the cool features. Also, the vehicle needs a little more power and a little quicker than some cars. I am totally unhappy with my 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback, cute enough car, mechanically a nightmare. I purchased my Ford in March 2016 @ 42,000 miles. About a week after I purchased the car, I noticed it was running a little rough, I mentioned this to the dealership when they called to see if I was happy with my purchase. That’s when I learned they had clutches even though automatic, he said “they do run a little rough, but the car will adapt to your driving and this will smooth out”… I will mention I know nothing about cars! After a couple of months the problem got worse, I called and made an appointment, they replaced the clutch at no charge. Problem solved, right… Wrong!

When the car was in to be worked on, I googled problems with clutches in Ford Focus, I was not prepared for the amount of issues and repeated issue with the clutch. I picked up my car, and asked if this happens again how long my I covered under the warranty. 100K is what he said. About 8 months later I started having issues, very minor but still an issue. I mentioned this when calling to make an appointment to have my car inspected and the issue was becoming worse, the sales or services person said we may have to keep it overnight because they were extremely busy. I told him I will wait until the weather breaks and bring it back in, asking again, I will be covered, right? “Yes, up to 100K." I dropped my car off to have the clutch replaced about a week ago.

I received a call thinking the work was done and I could pick up the car. I was not prepared for what I was about to hear. “It’s defiantly the clutch, however
The warranty on your car expired and Ford will not cover the cost…" I told him that can’t be right, I am covered up to 100K miles, currently @ 68K, "yes, we are

sorry, but we were wrong and the coverage for this type of clutch is only 60K??? The cost of the repair will be 1,800." I did not have the clutch replaced and will join the many people for are filing for class action lawsuit against Ford. As they are more than aware of the ongoing problem with the clutches and will do nothing about it…

So people do your homework – DO not purchase a Ford product, they will not stand behind you when you need them the most. Oh, did I mention when the service department called to give me the bad news, I asked why was I having this issue if the clutch problem was fixed the first time. He told me, well this has been an ongoing and Ford has finally fixed the issue with the clutches they are currently replacing. So the bottom line the second clutch was also a faulty clutch as well…

In August 2016 I brought my first car on my own which is a 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback. A few weeks into having the car it kept jerking. I took it back to get check and they said there's nothing wrong with the car. I have put a lot of money into this car already. This week I was on the highway and came to a stop, I pushed on the gas and my car would not go. I had to keep pushing on the gas to make it go. Two mins after that my transmission light appeared. As I'm calling my dad to let him know what's going on I get a message on my screen saying that my transmission is overheating. I had to pull over and get my car towed back to the dealership so they can look at it.

My car has now been at the shop for three days and still have not been looked at. This car has been nothing but trouble since I got it. The only thing they can tell me is something is wrong with the transmission but have to wait until the transmission specialist looks at it which can take another day or two. I am now in a rental car that I'm paying for out of pocket. I called Ford corporate and they told me in two days I'll receive an email that I will have to fill out information for then they will have to investigate and they MIGHT be able to help with something far as warranty. This car has been nothing but a money drainer. If I could I would give my experience 0 stars.

We bought a Ford Focus Trend 2013 about 8 months ago from a government car auction in Sydney NSW Australia. The day we got the car when we put the gear on drive it was given you few shaking jump. The people at the auction said it's ok, it's nothing wrong, just the nature of all Ford Focus. Couple of months later all the power windows stop working. When we took it to the Ford Mechanics they said, "Oh it the motor has gone and it's not under warranty so pay us ($700)." When we got the car back after paying ($700) then we had a letter from Ford that fuel tanks are faulty so take the car to Ford dealer. We took the car. They claimed that they fixed the fault and when we took the car back and took the car to put fuel the fuel gauge wasn't working and it's not filling up more than 10 dollars petrol.

When we took the car back they said, "Oh we have to charge you. It's not under warranty." I said, "But you guys broken the gauge." After they look at it the hopeless Mechanics put some pipe upside down. Now sign came on the screen. Transmission's faulty. We took the car again to Ford. They charge the computer and now calling me. We charge the computer and now the reverse gear not working. Come and take the with no reverse gear or give us permission to diagnose and charge for diagnosis only 1400 dollars and then + the charge for repairs.

I call Ford Australia. Their customer service was very poor. Not helpful at all and first time I've seen that customer service with too much attitude. She was very rude. Can't believe someone at customer service with no skill of customer service. I felt like I'm inside jail and talking with the jail guard. PLEASE PLEASE DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING FORD. Very bad car and very bad people on the phone and in person at their mechanical workshop. They have a serious issue in the customer communication line. Sorry to say that but unfortunately they don't deserve even one star.

Bought a 2013 Ford Focus Titanium 2 years ago and a month later it would not start, had it towed, Ford said they'd never heard of this before...they got it going. It started when it felt like it, we were left stranded numerous times, had it towed. Manager was abrupt and condescending. Car was in their garage and when it decided to start Ford would call, "Come and get it." It started shuddering so back in it goes, beforehand I called the main office where a helpful guy told me to tell Ford to replace the TCM and it's covered, no cost to me. Manager wanted to argue and said it wasn't covered and he had never ever heard of this problem before, lies...I wasn't going to leave until he agreed to replace the TCM, finally he did. I was ready to pitch a tent and not move. (He didn't think that was funny.)

New TCM "fixed" the problem for 3 months, then I was driving on the interstate and lost power then the car surged forward, scared me to death. Then the engine light came on, took it this time to my local garage and it was the 02 sensor, when the mechanic took it out it was burnt. Replaced that and another code had come up, the converter. Had it all "fixed" and I was done. Problem is this car is unfixable, it will just get worse, I wanted to think maybe it'll be okay but the truth is it never will be so I got rid of it. That is the best thing to do and move forward.

Traded it in and bought a Hyundai. Lost money of course and the thought of having to do that upset me greatly but the stress and having to deal with the crooks at Ford are too much. Plus more importantly this car can cause a serious accident. Apparently my car is going to be sold back to Ford who I'm sure will put it back on the lot to sell to a very unfortunate person and the cycle will continue. Run, don't walk and get rid of the car now before you spend thousands more on it then wait for the next thing to happen.

I has the car about 5 months and the transmission starting giving me problems. I carry the car back to the dealer, he said the clutch was bad, so they remove it, clean it and put it back in, in other word, put a band-aid on the wound and send it on the way. I had to demand a rental car while they has the car in the shop. What make it so bad some of the customer service people was very hateful to me. Now the warranty is out. They tell me that it will cost $2325 to fix the car. I have call the customer service of Ford and they said that there was nothing they could do to help me, to keep working with the local dealer and let them help me.

But the real problem was, when I ask he was I the only person that call them and complaint about the Focus and the man said yes. I told them I carry the car in twice and they said that they could not put it on the machine because the light was not on to let them know that there was a problem and that they did nothing, now the car have 107,000 miles and not running. I bought the 2013 Ford Focus SE brand new, drove it for a few months, loved it at first then less than 10,000 miles later I started having transmission problems. I took it in and was told they would have to reprogram the computer due to me not using the Auto shift mode. Next thing you know I'm broke down out of state had to have it towed to a dealer that cost me 130.00. They told me it was the transmission shutter would have to order it they kept my car for at least a week.

Drove great for a few thousand miles then started the shuttering again, took it back in, had to reprogram it again kept it for 3 days. Then right at the 30,000 miles it broke down had to have a transmission modular, kept it for about a week. Then close to the 60,000 same problems all over literally the same repeat the shutter, the computer needing to be programmed, and a new modular all during the time to close to 90,000 than was broke completely down would not go into reverse or anything. Took it back in before the warranty was up. Was told that was no recall on it but there was thousands of Focus and Fiestas of that year with the same problems, parts where on back order just about every time. They finally put a whole new transmission system in it, computer, modular, and everything else.

Now today 2/2/2018 it has once again broke down the car was making a loud grinding noise or I guess shuttering, would not shift at all out of second gear and is worse than it ever was. Now remind you from the first time I started having the problems I had several ford mechanics tell me it would not leave me stranded, drive it in S mode, and turn it off sometimes the computer will reset itself. Finally I looked it up and there is a recall after 4 and half long years of nothing but headaches and $425 a month payments so we will see the outcome. I am demanding a whole new different make and model. I refuse to go through this anymore the problem is continuous from one transmission to another and seems to be a guarantee at every 30 to 40,000 miles you're stranded. All they have done during the warranty was put a Band-Aid on it. I do not recommend Ford Focus at all.

I had purchased a 2016 Ford Focus and never knew that it has a huge transmission issue caused by the (TCM). Honestly, all I know is that, if a car has a problem, it shouldn’t be running. But in my case, I was looking for an affordable and reliable car, so I got my eye on that Focus and everyone at the dealership was looking at each other as if I was the dumbest person on earth. So now that I ended up taking the car for the same problem, over 8 times, in a period of 18 months, the great news has to come from the service guy at Ford and that is, my car will always have the same issue cause Ford can’t find a solution for it, and even if they change the transmission, it will fail again and again and again! How nice is that! They forgot that there is something called the Lemon law.

I bought a Focus and an Edge from Peoria Ford in Arizona. Both have been problematic but the Focus has been nothing but trouble from the start. It started with shuddering accelerating from a stop and later it would miss shifts at higher rpm. When I took it to the dealer they said they would look at it. Then I was sent to the car rental next door.

That is where I first heard about the transmission being a huge problem from the rental clerk not the dealer. Ford denied there was anything wrong and flashed the firmware (which has been needed every time it gets serviced). Shortly after, with only 17,369 miles. The rear main seal was leaking and the transmission control module (TCM) had failed. The TCM and all the seals and bearings were replaced. It shifted fine for a short time and then firmware updates became an every visit item. I became lulled into a tolerable lack of performance for 3 years never getting it right. Now they have both failed again at 107,756 miles. Just outside the 100K extended warranty, they say. However, the extended 100K should be on the dealer's work at 17,369 miles leaving me just within the extended warranty period. Stay tuned to hear if Ford does the right thing and honors their work or not.

This was my very first car that I bought on my own. I felt I was doing an important service by purchasing American made since prior vehicles were not. I decided on the 2012 Focus, purchased in May 2011. Almost from the beginning I had complaints about how the car shuttered. The dealership blew it off and said that's how the transmission works, it learns how I drive, and that's why I get great gas mileage. They didn't acknowledge any type of problem. I then returned again with another complaint because going slowly uphill the car was literally jumping! Again, they gave me the same story and made me drive the vehicle with a service member. It was this employee that secretly told me they knew of a problem and to watch out for a bulletin. Finally! Someone is listening.

Flash forward, I get the bulletin and go back to the dealership to see if they will do work on it. They tell me they can try to flash it, but it's not guaranteed to work and may in fact make it worse. Ok. So I'm not going to do that. This was the 1st time I was talked out of doing the work. Where my huge problem comes in is that I was driving my infant son around in this vehicle. One day after work I parked the car to run in and grab him from the sitter. Come out, start the car and nothing! Here I am, stranded 45 min from home with my baby. I had to have my husband drive all the way there and back to take us home. The next day we drove out there to see if he could fix the vehicle or get it going (not knowing it was the transmission). It started! Seriously. So my husband decides to drive it home and follow me. As he is driving the thing literally dies in the middle of the road. Here we are again. Broken vehicle. On the side of the road.

Call Ford dealership and they tell me to have it towed (which I had to pay for) and they will take a look at it. Told me it was probably the TCM and it will be at least 2 weeks before they can fix it and offer no type of loaner. Really!!! I have an infant and have to work. And I'm supposed to pay for a loaner on a problem you knew about! Not right. Car was fixed and drove ok after that. Still some shuttering and problems with acceleration, but it drives and I'm not dealing with the service department anymore. Felt like I was going to get rear ended. Keep in mind that I have also always had my oil changes here and ask every time if there's any software updates or anything new for the vehicle... No, no, no. So aggravating!

I'm sure they don't document any of that. What sets me off is that I feel like they talked me out of doing all of these repairs and now when it comes down to the mass lawsuit you have to have had the car worked on 3 times to get anything! I feel like they knew this and purposely deceived me. I will NEVER purchase another Ford vehicle.

Lithia Ford in 2015 offered me to trade it in for another vehicle so I choose a 2013 Escape and they rolled in 4k that was still owed on the Focus. So the Escape was 22k plus adding the 4k made the deal 26k. Without taxes. Well a month later the transmission went out on the Ford Escape. So it went to their shop. And I had paid for extended vehicle plan. They failed to inform me that these both vehicles have the same issue.

So being upset and not thinking straight... I just wanted out of Ford. So Lithia Ford had a Nissan Frontier truck. Lithia took the Escape and sold me the Frontier for 22k. He's fighting for your freedom and you don't admit to the problem, you just extend the warranty on the transmission and hope we the consumer will be like, "Okay it's fine." No it's not fine!! You built a piece of ** car that's putting thousands of lives in danger and won't do anything about it. Even when the car gets "fixed" at the dealership, it just breaks down again and AGAIN. I purchased a new 2013 Ford Focus for my granddaughter to get to and from college and work; I thought I was getting affordable, economical and dependable transportation for her. WRONG! She complained about rough ride, loud noises like something hitting the car, transmission fluid was overheating per one Ford Service Tech and she took the junk to three different dealerships throughout the greater Seattle area who all finally told her not to bring it back. She decided to not risk her life and the well being of either herself or her expected baby any longer and gave the junk back to me.

The "car" has been through all the transmission recall issues which didn't resolve the drivability, the rear door locking recall has yet to be fixed - dealer says parts are on back order and Ford corporate says they are in stock (who do you believe...?) and the ford audio system appears to be the source of the loud hitting noises but because the bumper to bumper warranty has expired (even though the problem had been identified to several different dealerships while in warranty) Ford refuses to do anything about it because apparently service technicians "wrote it up wrong."

Estimate for fix is in excess of $2000.00 at $120.00 per hour!!! And back on the transmission issue: the transmission still intermittently "chutters"/vibrates when you put it into gear even after all the recalls were supposedly applied under an extended warranty. I have been told Ford continues to roll out focus junk with the same transmission. My sense of propriety and civility prevents me from truly expressing my utter disdain for this car and its manufacturer!

I currently have a 1993 Ford Escort (no complaints still working like a charm), a 2000 MiniWinnie built on a Ford 350 chassis with Triton Ten motor (have had some problems but they were resolved), 2001 Lincoln Town car (no complaints; all recalls were fixed after local service manager noticed they hadn't been fixed - I wasn't notified by Ford about them...) and regrettably I let go of my 1998 Chevrolet pick up truck and bought a 2013 Ford 150 with the most complicated and difficult audio system (I quit using it), and a steering issue when I go around a corner the truck doesn't want to straighten back up - I was told I would just have to get use to it, that it was "normal" for a Ford!!!

I helped a friend select a 2014 Ford 250 and fortunately there have not been any significant problems - but I will never, ever recommend another Ford product to any friend (or even an enemy for that matter) again at the risk of losing their friendship. Needless to say, Ford has lost me as a customer because of their shoddy products, lack of pride in their products and lack of loyalty to their customers!!!

Over the past 30 years my husband and I have purchased 2 F-150 trucks, a Bronco II XLT, a van, 6 Mustangs and 2 Focus hatchbacks. Obviously we are Ford people. I saw the Focus hatch at a car convention as a concept car, got on a waiting list to be able to order one. Finally in May 2011 I received my Focus SEL-loaded. LOVED IT! After having the car for about 15,000 miles, it starts to shutter, downshift, lunge forward, not accelerate when you press the gas. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the sensor. Another 13,000 miles, replaced the transmission AND sensor. Another year goes by and of course my warranty ran out, but they replaced the sensors again. Now I realize that no extended warranty is going to cost me-lots. I paid CASH $26,682.00 plus tax.

So in July 2015 I go back to Ford to look at another Focus. The salesman told me that the transmissions in previous Focuses had been replaced. So now I trade in the first Focus (they only gave $10,000.00 trade) for a 2015 Titanium-loaded with everything (and I bought the $2,500.00 extended warranty) and now have a car payment. Right around 3,000 miles the old shutter, shake, downshift starts in this car. I take it back and find out that the salesman LIED to me, the transmission is the same, and all the problems are the same. This car has had the sensors replaced (as of today FOUR times).

Last week, I called up to Michigan to Customer Services. They set up an appointment with another dealer and I go there 7:30 this morning. They were going to test to see if anything was wrong. Well of course the car failed and they needed to fix it. Instead of giving me a loaner like the warranty says, I sat there until almost 11:00 am. They come in and tell me that they are going to replace the transmission. Yay! But it will take another 2 hours. So finally at 2:10 pm they tell me the car is ready. I was so happy!

Then I said to the service manager "so, it has a new transmission, right?" And he says no. I know they said they were going to replace it and he says no, they have to drop the transmission to get to the clutch sensors. He told me to drive the car for 500 miles so it can "learn" how I drive. He also tells me this will not fix the problem and it is a band-aid, and the car will have to keep coming back until I get rid of it or my warranty wears out. Now I am mad. So I leave, go to the first light, and stop. Car starts to shutter and when the light changed - yep it did not accelerate. So I get home and call "Customer Care" (should be "don't give a squat"). I explain what happened and she says "so what is it that you want?" Well, I said, "I would like a vehicle that has the correct parts in it and performs as it should." She puts me on hold (I know she called the dealer) and comes back with "they have fixed the problem for now" and I will have to keep bringing it back.

So after wasting almost $60,000.00 on two pieces of junk I am stuck with the last one. I love the look, handling and general everything about the car but I have darkened the door of ANY Ford dealer for the last time. Shame on them for frauding the public and loyal Ford customers on these cars. I hope they get burned on the class action lawsuit and if anyone has an idea how to get this car fixed, let me know. I think the execs at Ford should have to drive these cars and see how they like it. Some time and I hope it is soon, good 'ole Karma will come knocking on Ford's door! My numbers below should be zero but they don't go down that far.

All lights work and everything else just wouldn't start. So we had to get a tow and call a cab to get back to our hotel. We were 2 hours from home but had already planned on staying that night. The next day we call garage where towed to and they were very exceptional on putting car right and to try and get us home for work the next day. They called back that it was the TCM unit that was bad but that because it was a recall item the extended warranty that was purchased would not cover and that we had to get it towed to a Ford dealership to fix. We booked another night at hotel and called our bosses to ask for another day vacation. Also rented a vehicle... no choice now.

Ford dealer couldn't get us in so the next day we had to use the rental to get home. Ford dealer called 2 days later and told us that they replaced the TCM unit but car would still not start and that they have a new reason for it. They said on the connector from wire harness that hooks to the TCM, that the clip was broken that holds it in place and that upon further inspection that pins were bent/ possible broken also. And that this was going to cost around $1,000 to fix!!! And to top that extended warranty wouldn't cover again because "It was caused by a previous fix". They sent out an adjuster to look at it. So the previous fixes were the clutch recall... Twice. And on a side note the clutch needs to be replaced for a third time already!!! But have just been tolerating. Car has 90k miles on it and would love to trade in if it wouldn't put us upside down!

So we call the only Ford dealership that has touched the car and can anyone guess their response??? From the service manager, "We didn't do that, not our problem." Well some "skilled tech" there did! This doesn't just happen! Someone with bad hand eye coordination obviously forced this connector on! And after miles of vibrations it finally failed. But the service manager where the original recalls were performed assured us that that could never happen. To add to that, the service manager where the Focus is sitting waiting says it absolutely can... Hmmmm. So we put a call into Ford itself. And they told us they are not responsible because all of the Ford dealerships are privately owned. And even though we argued that this wouldn't of happened in the first place if it wasn't for the recall fixes, they didn't care!

So our present situation is car is still 2 hours away, still having to use a rental, and now waiting on the attorney general to intervene. And it's been 2 weeks. We refuse to pay for a repair that was caused because of having to get this focus repeatedly fixed for recalls!!! This is absolutely ridiculous having to go thru this!!! But it's transparent now that no one at Ford or its franchises will back their work or their product!

To me it takes just a little bit of common sense to see how this all transpired. Shame on you Ford!!! And the lawsuit that is going on because of their "quality product" (sarcasm), we will all probably get a joke of a settlement and about $100!!! I really would have loved to use "sentence enhancers" throughout this review to show my true feelings, but kept this readable for all. Bottom line Ford made junk and don't care!!! You should feel ashamed to call yourself an American company! Why don't you go buy all your execs a 2013-2014 focus for their year end bonuses they get for ripping off the American people they supposedly represent!!!!

Bought a new Ford Focus 2013 with cash and have had nothing but problems since day 1. The transmission is horrible, shudders and feels like it is going to stall. Brought the car in with less than 500 miles and was told that is was "normal" and that is why it gets such good mileage. That I need to adjust my driving. Did not make much sense but I was willing to give it a try. Then the radio started to POP and make horrible noises even when off. Now the transmission just cuts out with the RPM going up but no power.

Today while driving the car totally shut off on a mountain road. All of the lights flashing, stating the transmission was overheated. I feel like I take my life in my hands every time I drive this POS. It has caused me to be fearful of driving and I cannot even sell the horrible car since no one wants it. Shame on you Ford. I am a disabled, retired person and cannot afford another car. Now it is just a huge paperweight sitting in the driveway and I am without transportation. Do not buy a Ford ever!

Took a 2014 Ford Focus back to dealer for excessive shuddering. This was after having the TCM (Transmission Control Module) reprogrammed in the past. It failed the clutch test (no surprise, the thing didn't shift.) Got it back four days later and it drives like a new car. We had the extended warranty so all covered. No fighting with Ford, etc. Seriously, at this time anyway, no hint of a shudder... at all. It's only been a month so we'll see how it holds out. Just wanted to let people know it may be fixable.

Had a power steering assist failure causing the steering to lock up and make it very difficult to steer. This is a known problem across many different models, yet Ford has not issued a recall for Focus models. Searching the internet shows that many Focus owners have this problem. Ford should do the right thing and issue a recall.

We bought a certified used 2014 Ford Focus SE 2.0L 4C with less than 50,000 miles on it (around 47,000 miles). Right away we noticed it stuttered, jerked and hesitated. We called the dealership, whose agent told us he knew exactly what it was, that his wife had the same issue, and that the Ford Dealership would be contacted to get the issue taken care of immediately. Three months later, Ford, being completely aware of the issue, stating they have been doing at least three of these per day, just at that Dealership, for the last year. They even already had a code for it, yet no official recall or disclosure was put out to the public at that time.

They had the car for about a week, replaced the relay and clutch (Automatic Transmission), did a once over, and gave the whole car a clean bill of health, but when marking the boxes (green for good, yellow for may need attention in the future, red for need immediate attention) they put a line through all three boxes, essentially admitting it needed to be fixed, was fixed, and would need more attention in future.

The problem seemed to be fixed, however, a year later, it seems to be back, only worse!! This time, not only did it begin to stutter, jerk and hesitate, it literally refused to go into drive completely, and the check engine light came on. People were honking and angry, as it was a light and an onramp for the Interstate, and my fiance was scared out of his mind!! It did eventually go into drive, and he came home in one piece... THIS TIME!!! He disconnected the battery, and the check engine light went off, and this morning drove the 57-mile drive to work without issue. BUT, obviously the issue is not fixed!! Or, it's going out again.

I read on several sites, that the issue comes back on everyone. Some after 20,000 miles, some after 40,000 miles or so, but either way, it comes back!! So here we go again!! Have to call Ford, deal with them about the issue, getting a rental, which better be for free, wait probably 3 more months for the parts to come in, etc. They finally have a generic recall on their website, but doesn't explain anything, because everyone is having similar, but different issues with this TCM Transmission. It is horrible!! They know this transmission is an issue, yet they are avoiding doing the right thing by totally replacing it or totally fixing it forever, or maybe just exchanging it for a better car without any cost to the customer.

Are we going to have to deal with this transmission issue for the life of the car? I don't even know how they are going to respond to my call, telling them their fix failed and issue is back and dangerously worse. And why hasn't NTHSA not done something about this? Are they waiting for deaths??? We owe about $15,000.00 on this car, and it doesn't even have 80,000 miles on it yet, and the transmission is a major death trap. If something happens to my fiance due to this transmission, you'd better believe I will sue for a huge chunk of that hundred billion plus they make every year!! He is the main provider, I am permanently disabled and he also is my part time care giver, and he's the love of my life!! So nothing better happen to him due to Ford's negligence in this transmission matter!!

I called Sonora Ford and told them about the problem and that since there was only one month left on the lease I wanted to turn the car in early. The dealership accepted the car back and told me everything was fine. Now Ford Credit says I still owe the last month's payment, and they are now also trying to collect for a scratch on the bumper. I am original owner of my 2012 Ford Focus SLE. In 2014 I was unable to pass emissions due to both O2 sensors going bad. This should have been a major warning sign but I ignored it. My car started to have transmission problems sputtering on the hwy and unable to shift gears properly (didn't know this car actually has a stick shift tranny). Once that problem was taking care of, it began having electrical problems. Lights flickering off and on like there’s a shortage in the wiring. Ford mechanics can't find anything wrong and it cost $117 dollars for them to look. My car has completely shut off twice, once while driving on the hwy heading to work and once at a red light picking my children up from school, both times resulting in the car having to be towed away. Luckily both times this happened no one was injured, but my car dying on me on the interstate while in motion is very unsettling.

Now the car will not start at all. The battery, starter, and alternator are all brand new and the car will not start. Had a different mechanic looked at it and he stated it's not getting enough compression and the engine may be blown. SMH. THIS CAR IS A LEMON. I am fed up with the constant maintenance required on a brand new car. Ford Motor Company offered no help, repairs or solutions and the finance company only cares about you making payments. I bought a 2013 Ford Focus in 2014 with 16k miles. The car started showing the issue a year after with around 30k miles. It got worse around 40k miles where I got two tickets in a week after the car won't decelerate in 25mph zones. It takes weeks to get an appointment with a dealer and they fail to take responsibility. I had clutch replaced and it went away for a few months until it gave up suddenly while I was driving and the car won't accelerate and "service transmission warning came on". Freaked out and closely avoided being rear ended for suddenly dropping speed. Took it to the dealer and was told they may have to keep the car for more than a week, Ford will only cover rental for a day or two when the car is actually being worked on. I cannot drive the car, and dealer can't get to it for over a week.

Then when they started working on it, they said the TCM failed due to low battery and if I don't replace it, any future transmission issues will not be covered by Ford. No other module had low voltage DTC, no issues with starting, so this sounded like ** to me. Nevertheless I replaced battery out of my pocket and replaced the TCM with warranty. The car is still showing shudder randomly and I keep getting burning smells. I tried to trade it in 2016 but because it is financed and lost its value, my payment will be very high on a new car. I still have more than 10k on the car and I fear for my life every time I get it.

I am very frustrated and angry with Ford. The need to face the consequences for this because this is a serious safety concern!! I work in automotive and everyday see companies getting punished for minor comfort concerns. This is a SAFETY CONCERN!! Why is there not enough reaction to this. NEVER A FORD AGAIN!!! After trading in my old car because of transmission problems, the last thing I wanted in a new car was for the transmission to act up. I ended up getting a 2014 Ford Focus Titanium because it was a great deal and seemed perfect at first glance, but I was soon horribly mistaken. From the start it has had endless problems. I bought the car not knowing that it had a terrible sunroof leak, I figured it out after a severe thunderstorm to see my passenger front and back seats saturated in rain water. My car smelled like mildew for weeks until Ford decided to fix it, taking a full week to fix, leaving me without a car. Shortly after my rear bumper spoiler fell off during a rainstorm, it FELL OFF. And was missing a reflector and a small other piece which Ford told me would cost 600 dollars for... a reflector.

Then I started to experience what driving a dual clutch transmission was like. It was pretty terrible for a few months of jerking, jumping and bumping. Half the time it felt like my car was going to stall (which was my problem with my last car), I was terrified to drive it because it seemed unsafe to pull out into traffic without knowing what it was going to do. So I decided to take it to the dealership where they told me "oh that’s just how it works". They took it in for testing which took three days for them to tell me they couldn't do anything for me because it didn't fail the "test", and they couldn't feel it when they drove it. After going back at least ten times and them doing absolutely nothing for me, I went back very annoyed. The only answer I got was "I don't work for Ford, I work for this dealership".

I was appalled to say the least claiming not to work for Ford (stand behind your brand!!!). I explained my old car did it and that I was scared to drive a car that did the exact same thing my old car did. I was so upset because I had to keep a car that was terrible because I still had to pay 20,000 dollars for it. Finally, I went to a different dealership of a family friend who ended up fixing the problem. It took about a week to fix and it was fine for about 9 months. Now I am back in the same situation with a jumpy transmission. I recently got a letter in the mail about a law suit against Ford and the Focus, which seems wonderful. But I needed to have my transmission repaired more than 3 times, I would have had it fixed three times but Ford refused to fix it. Plus, if I did get any money for it, it would be 2,000 towards a different car or 5,000 towards a new Ford car. You could not pay me 100,000 dollars to buy a new Ford car. NEVER AGAIN.

I bought this brand new in 2013, the car was a comfy ride, and the transmission seemed OK when I test drove it. The next couple days I discovered some serious jerkiness while driving it and brought it back to which they said they reset the "TCM" and update some other such things. I was back to have them do this again in about another week as it didn't seem to fix anything, and they said the car has to learn how you drive before the "jerkiness" goes away (load of BS)

So - I still have this car, and have so far: been on the highway and the transmission just completely stops working, been in an intersection and the transmission will slip causing me to almost get hit, been parked, go to reverse and the car completely stops responding, every single time I'm on a highway then hit bumper to bumper traffic this transmission will start jumping the car forward and if you're not paying attention with the brakes you'll most likely nail the car in front of you.

But - Ford keeps saying "oh yeah nothing we can do" which is great to hear. They sold me, and from the looks of it thousands of others this lemon POS transmission and they're acting like it's our fault in some way. I've had this thing reset probably 5-10 times now and it seems that after a certain amount of miles it gets so bad you need to have it reset.

Ford isn't the only company I've had terrible customer experiences with, but man, I really wanted to like this car as there is a part of me as an American who says "man, I want to be proud of this product" but when my friends and family's Hondas have issues they take care of them no questions asked. If Ford wants to compete with these other companies, believe your customers when they say there is an issue with your product that YOU need to fix due to an issue with what YOU have created and released.

Treat the customer well and we'll be happy if you mess up. When you keep screwing us over taking our money for these "repairs" it makes people like me give up on trusting your products. I'm not going with another Ford for the foreseeable future. Make a quality product someday and I might take another look, combine that with some improved customer service, or rather give your customer service teams the ability to ACTUALLY help us then maybe you'll win some of us back. Until then, get your head out of the dirt and start listening, I'm done with your company.

I got my 2013 Ford Focus a little over two years ago. I got it in Topeka, Ks and I was happy at the time. Shortly after that my windshield cracked and my car started slipping with the transmission so I took it back to the car dealership and they told me that all the Ford's Focus are made that way so I drove it like that the whole time. I was just clueless because I said it drive like a go-cart. So the next thing that went out on the piece of junk was the radio. I was hearing popping noise that sound like live wires hitting hot electricity. It would just pop and I would jump out of my skin every time it done that, this loud whistle sound coming from the radio. I was thinking the car was going to blow up. I kinda wish it did with me not in it but over time it blew out.

So now I don't have a radio then I get this letter from Ford saying there is a recall on the door latches and to reprogram the transmission. So after that was done it still drive the same. Then my brakes need to be fix. Then all of a sudden the transmission went out. So I called Ford headquarters and they inform me that it was a recall so I make an appointment with Dick Ford dealership in Raytown, Missouri on a Friday.

So I took off early to have them to do a diagnostic test on the transmission and I walk in talk to a guy name TJ ** and a heavy set older guy stated that they don't make appointments for transmission on Friday. And I explain to them what was going on with the car and he was very rude explaining the process about what Ford will fix and not fix and if your car is over 100,000 miles that they won't fix it. It was the clutch of the transmission that they won't fix over 100,000 and I told him I almost roll back into a car that was behind me at a light. They didn't care and were very rude. Remind you that I had just seen them just a couple of months before this happen.

So now I am driving just to work and back staying close to my area when I drive this raggedy car. Also I want to add I did call Ford headquarters right after seeing the poorly consumer assistance I receive from Dick Smith Ford in Raytown, Missouri. That customer service from Ford explain it all to me and I wasn't aware of this so call recall. A representative over the phone with Ford inform me that I should have register my car through Ford when I first got the car, but who does that.

I read a lot of review under Consumer Affairs about the Ford Focus. And I feel something needs to be done about this because I don't have the money to fix everything with this car driving around like this because this is going to go out completely. I do have AAA but I can't fix this broke down car. I can't believe that Ford is still selling this piece of crap. I contact another dealership just to check on getting another car and I inform him I don't want NO FORD. Never again will I buy one. Shame on you Ford, and if there is a class action Lawsuit is going on please contact me someway or somehow.

They say that the recalled parts that operate the transmission that they had to replace YESTERDAY are not to blame for the transmission failure and they have "never seen" one of these transmissions fail. Really?? They also "don't know" if it can be just replaced or not. Took me but a moment to find out about these!

First two mechanics I spoke with outside of the dealership told me about these transmissions failing, and precisely why they fail. Poor design! It's actually a manual transmission with a clutch plate made to shift like an automatic transmission. These parts not operating correctly can lead to internal transmission issues and failures and Ford and Bowen Scarff Ford SHOULD know what to do and how to take care of the customer. I purchased a 2012 Ford Focus with an automatic transmission in 2013 with around 12,000 miles on it. Shortly after purchasing this vehicle I noticed a hesitation while trying to accelerate and a shuddering from my transmission. I called a Ford dealer and was told that this is just how the car is and it was normal. After a few more months I noticed noises when the car was shifting and I again called a Ford dealer to see about having it looked at. Again, I was told that this was normal for the type of transmission in the Ford Focus (some combination transmission type with an electronic component was how it was explained). After the transmission getting louder and stuttering I finally was able to get Ford to look at it and was told they had to reset some computer system. It improved for awhile then started the same loud, shuddering shifting issues. It always seemed to be the worst in the lower gears... trying to get up over 25-35 mph.

Eventually Ford had recalled the TCM and after a long wait I was able to get it looked at and replaced. It helped for around a year then it went downhill fast. This time I had all the previous problems with the transmission and a new problem: it would refuse to accelerate almost as if it was falling out of gear. One afternoon my car literally would not move and I had to put it in reverse then back in drive a couple times to get it to move and I could feel it slipping. I drove it straight to the Ford dealer. I thought that Ford had extended the warranty for the transmission but they only extended it for the TCM. I was charged over $1000 for a shift fork in a car that had around 77,000 miles (with a lot of those highway miles). This was an automatic transmission so it was not as if I was shifting heavy. Any damage to that part was due to the horrible transmission Ford put in it! I got it back and on my drive home from the Ford service shop it broke down with the same exact problem!

I immediately contacted Ford and had it towed back to be fixed properly. This time they told me the TCM needed to be replaced again! It was covered but of course I had already paid over $1000 for a new shift fork and will never know whether that repair was even necessary. I have my car back after all these repairs but it still is sluggish in accelerating and shifting, it shudders, it makes noises. I called customer care and was given no help. I have purchased 6 Fords over the past 20+ years and will not buy another Ford after this experience. Ford knows they put out a poor product in the Ford Focus but will not do anything to correct it. Covering 1 part for an extended period of time is not taking care of the customer. Very disappointed.

I did it several times then I called the company where I purchased it from. In Wichita, Kansas a Toyota Eddy's off of their used lot. It only had 52,000 miles drove. Great on the test drive. Got a loan from my bank. Was so proud.

So I called. The maintenance took it in. Told them I knew what was wrong. It was the transmission. Ford has had problems with 2012-2014 with the take off from 1st to second gear. They couldn't help me. They weren't a Ford Company. I need to take it to Ford. Well they looked at me like I was stupid. So no help. I can't believe there is not a recall for this. What do I do now? Just drive 'til it stops then where will I be? Please I need answers from someone. Thanks.

Since posting my review on the Ford Focus transmission problems, Ford Motor Co. in conjunction with dealership has stepped in to find a equitable solution. I contacted the Ford Motor Co. and the Ford dealership where initially vehicle was purchased. Both the dealership and Ford Motor Co. customer service manager worked together to repair my daughter's Ford Focus transmission. Ford assume a portion of the repair cost and my part was $750. Vehicle so far running fine.

Purchased new 2014 Ford Focus SE on Aug 6, 2013 for our daughter. Started having issues with transmission July 7, 2015. Dealership reprogram TCM and replace clutch under warranty. Daughter temporarily moved to CA go to school. Nov 16, 2016 my daughter calls us crying desperate with transmission issues again and vehicle is taken to nearest Ford dealership. Dealership replaces TCM at no charge under warranty and replaces clutch which cost my wife and I $2009. On May 2017 desperately calls again vehicle won't start so my daughter pays for a new battery and gets it installed.

While driving vehicle transmission fails to engage properly not going more than 5 miles and won't engage in reserve. Vehicle towed to same dealership that replaced TCM and clutch. Dealership finding states transmission needs replacing. Cost approximately $5,000. Had to have vehicle shipped back home to Washington state and daughter has no vehicle and we still owe $7,000. Ford completely ignoring the issue. These dual clutch transmission is a failure. Leaving the customer having to deal with the nightmare of a manufacture defect. This is totally unacceptable!

Purchased my 2013 Ford Focus Titanium in February of 2013. I was excited to continue my history of owning a Ford. Problems started immediately with the transmission. I chalked it up to just being a different car and new feelings. Then the recall information came out. I had the computer work done and things were okay for the most part until now. At about 50,000 miles the transmission is the worst it has been and after taking it to the dealership I was told that NOTHING is wrong and that I will have to just deal with it. I can't even enjoy a car ride without frustration, disappointment, and worrying about my safety. They will not help. What I do need to do to get this fixed? How are they not held responsible? I still owe on the vehicle and it's like a slap in the face. I will never buy a Ford again... they don't take care of their customer and that is such a shame.

I purchased my 2013 Ford Focus Titanium in 2014. It had less than 10,000 miles on it, fully loaded. Best car ever, so I thought. I have had nothing but trouble out of this car, from the transmission, sputtering, stalling, to computer malfunctions, each time I take it in they name a different issue. This time it's the fuel injector and the sensor Ford claims that it's not cover under my warranty. So I had to pay $125.00 for the diagnostics and now I need to come up with over $1,500 for repairs plus storage fees because the piece of junk is occupying a parking space at Ford Mall of Georgia. I grow up thinking that Ford was a great American car company. I'm so sad I was wrong. Something should be done. This car is not only a headache it's also dangerous. I will never buy a Ford again! (I only gave 1 star because it a required field to submit a review, I give this car and this company ZERO stars.)

I bought my Ford in 2012 with about 40000 miles on it. Early on, I noticed shuddering in the transmission, but assumed that it was just because of the type of transmission. Around maybe 85,000 I noticed there was something leaking. I thought it was from the air conditioning condensation. In late July/Early August of 2016, I took a trip in my Ford Focus to visit a friend in Wilmington, NC. It was me and my 2 children and due to a mess up by our mortgage company, we had very little money. When we arrived at my friend’s house, my car which I had driven the entire way to Wilmington from Pittsburgh, PA would not start. It didn’t start for a few hours after which was extremely stressful, but I thought maybe the engine was just hot.

The next day, we went to Walmart and had no problem getting there. We did our shopping and get back to the car, it would not start. It was pouring down rain and so I had to lug my two children back out through this massive storm to get to the auto center. We get there and I am completely distraught. They jumped my car and determined it was what they thought- the battery. Buying that battery used up what little money I had left until my next paycheck.

The next day, we decided to take a trip to the beach because it was close and inexpensive. We drove to the beach no problem and played for a bit. We get back to the car and it won’t start. New battery and all, the car just would not start. After about 5 minutes, it started running again. At this point, my anxiety is just through the rough and the kids are scared. I cried a lot because I didn't know what to do at all. I was watching the house for a friend and didn't know anyone. We had to just not go anywhere for a day or 2 to get this all figured out. It completely ruined what was supposed to be a fun vacation.

At this point, I was at a complete loss. I started researching Ford 2012 Focus problems and found evidence and examples of cars that were acting just like mine. Total loss of power that was completely random. I was stranded out of state with my two kids. It turned out to be something called the TCM. I took my car to a local Ford dealership after speaking with Customer Care and they repaired the TCM but told the clutch was leaking. He basically told me I needed to buy a new transmission which would be close to $2000. I didn’t have the money to fix this and had not received any notices regarding a fix needed on this. I believe this was due to moving and having a new address.

When I learned of the clutch warranty repair, my car was over the mileage. I was under the impression that 100,000 miles was from when I purchased the vehicle, which already had 40,000 miles on it when I got it. Today I learned that they will not stand behind their faulty product. I am completely disgusted and will never own a Ford Vehicle again. To add to my frustration, I attempted to trade in my Ford, which I owe approximately $4000 on and was told that it was worth only $1000 due to the faulty transmission. So I have to pay $2000 to fix a faulty car that is only worth $1000 that I owe $4000 on. Please, someone explain to me how this works? There are TONS of lawsuits against Ford right now. Like, a bazillion lawsuits even a class action lawsuit… I thought maybe if I reached out to them they might help me take care of this issue since it would probably cost a lot less than going through the arbitration process, etc.

I am hoping to get this resolved through Ford and if I can it will restore my faith in their product. If you do research on 2012 Ford Focus and other Ford cars from around that time you can see a TON of sites, posts and news about how these cars are lemons.

Both my parents work for Ford and can't find any sort of restitution because "that's how it drives" according to the dealership. My daughter purchased a 2014 Ford Focus from Tedd Britt Ford in Fairfax, VA. From the very beginning when driving the car it always felt like you needed to change gears, but considering it was a manual changing gears was not an option. My daughter was a college student at the time of the purchase. While attending school full time she also worked full time as a server. My daughter was proud to buy her first new car and she worked hard to pay for it.

She was encouraged by her Grandfather to purchase the extended warranty on the car and even though it would cause her payments to be higher she said it was a smart investment for later down the road. Her Grandfather also told her to make sure she kept up with the service on the vehicle. She has never missed an oil change, tire rotation, etc... At each service visit she told the service person the problem she was having when driving the car... the jerking, the stalling, the feeling that she should be changing gears, but can't, the random times when it wouldn't start for no reason, etc... and each time she was told they found nothing wrong with the car.

Last week the transmission light came on and she immediately called to schedule an appointment at the local Ford dealership. She scheduled the earliest appointment available, but that wasn't soon enough this past Saturday. 4/22/2017 the car would not drive and it left my 22 year old daughter stranded. The car would not go into reverse and when she tried to drive it the car would not drive faster than 5 mph without shutting down. Some nice stranger told her that maybe the car was in theft mode which is why she was unable to drive it. Wishful thinking! We had to have the car towed to the Ford Dealership in Newport News, VA.

Yesterday, 4/24/2017 the service person contacted my daughter and told her the clutch needed replaced. She told my daughter that the problem was a recall and would be fixed at no cost. Syke! My daughter received a call today and is now being told she would be responsible for the cost of repairs. Excuse me Hall Ford? How are you going to tell your customer one thing one day and something different the next day? Clearly the problem is with the make & model and not because my daughter was irresponsible! My family are loyal Ford customers! My Dad drives a F350 Dual wheel Diesel Truck, I drive a Ford Taurus, my brother drives a Ford Explorer, my sister drove a Ford Explorer, and now my daughter drives a Ford Focus. My daughter just wants her car repaired and drivable. I truly hope Ford does the right thing!

So I got into a car accident back in September of 2014 and that winter I bought the 2012 Ford Focus SEL. At first it was an amazing car and I loved it with all of my heart because it got amazing gas mileage and Bluetooth. Loved the car. Well once I graduated high school and started driving the car longer distances, there were more and more problems with it as I went along.

First: The radio started giving me problems. The speakers would make a firecracker noise throughout the vehicle whether I was driving or not driving. We replaced the speakers because we thought that maybe I had just blown the speakers or something like that. After that the problem still continued and then the radio would turn itself off one its own while I was driving. We replaced the radio and then the battery to my car started to go bad so now 5 batteries deep into the car I still have no radio and the speakers don't make the noise but that's only because they are disconnected.

Second: The weather strip on the drivers side door is completely ripped up and I have no idea why, BUT we did find out that the car had been in an accident and the drivers side door is a replacement and whatever they did they did not make it flush nor did they do a good job fixing it because the door slams against the frame of the car (NOT A GOOD THING).

Third: Now I have seen and heard about the stuttering when accelerating. I have learned that if you turn off traction control that problem goes away, but you have turn it off every time you get into the car. SO that's a huge no for me. They have told me that they could fix it but every time they've "fixed it" it happens again. SO I was told later on that there is an unnecessary part in the transmission that once it's taken out there's no more stutter.

Fourth and final: There is multiple water leaks throughout the car. I can find one, get it fixed and another seems to show up. I have replaced anything and everything to prevent the water leaks, but nothing seems to fix it and there is no leaks or holes in the trunk where the spare tire is and there is always water in there regardless. So overall I have had this car for about 3 years now and I HATE it. Like the level of hate I have for this car is massive.

I am living a nightmare because of my one year old today Ford Focus 2015. From the start it made a rattling sound on acceleration, shuddered, and was slow to accelerate. I traded my very reliable Ford Focus ZXW wagon with 271,000 miles on it for this piece of junk, and at purchase it was NEVER DISCLOSED TO ME that I was buying a car that had a different kind of transmission than the other Focus did. The sticker which I still have, reads AUTOMATIC on this vehicle that has a faulty transmission which is the worst thing that can be wrong with any car.

In October, the dealership that sold it to me kept the car for five days to diagnose the problems. I called every day to see what they had found out and I was met with a stony silence and told the transmission person hadn't had time to look at it yet. When they finally called, the arrogant woman behind the desk told me she had driven it several miles and heard no rattle, so they had not done anything to the car at all in those five days. Are you kidding me? I took it back in again for the same complaints plus the windshield wipers froze in the middle of the windshield and the gas gauge did not read I had put gas in it. Again, they told me there was nothing wrong with the car.

So I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they arranged with Ford for an engineer to go to the dealership and look at the car. He found that it needed a new clutch which they put in this week. Upon driving the car home, I found that the rattle was gone and now it makes a chirping, squeaking noise on every left turn. This is my family's only car. I emphatically told the salesman at the time of purchase that despite my financial situation from being a single mother for decades, my family needed reliable transportation, and at 271,000 miles, I didn't know how long my Focus wagon could provide that and so I felt I needed to buy a new car. And even knowing all that PLUS the problems inherent in this transmission since 2011, they sold me this nightmare of a car.

The stress of this is too much for me. I bought a new car to avoid the stress of having a broken down car and am stuck with a car with a bad transmission and who knows what they damaged while putting in the new clutch that now causes the squeak on left turns? I am afraid they won't take responsibility for that either. All I want is a car with a real automatic transmission that I can depend on. That is what I was sold, and Ford needs to stop robbing its loyal customers.

Leases/Purchased a 2013 FORD Focus. Received a letter in the mail from Ford telling us they extended the transmission warranty to 100,000 miles. (6 Trips) We had (3) problems prior to April 2017 with the Focus transmission. They either put in some new part or reprogrammed the computer. The fixes lasted for a short time, but the problem always came back. April 2017 we ask for the transmission to be checked because it is jerking the car quite extensively. They call back, tell us the transmission needs parts they will be ordered. They call and tell me the car is done and I go pick it up. I drive to work the next day and as I am parking, the Transmission Fault light comes on and it says service now, I have no reverse and cars in front of me, so I leave it where it is. Call Ford, they do not know what happened. I tell them to come get it and get me a car.

The service department calls and tells me my transmission failed because I need a new battery. It will be $195.00. I call BS on the transmission failing because of a battery, but what can I do, they have my car. We agree to pay for the battery, but not labor, because I can put a battery in my car. They call and tell me my car is done and to pick it up. I come to pick it up, paperwork says I owe $195.00. Is there anything that this department does right? Again the person at the counter fixes their mistake and only charges me the $125.00 (for a battery to fix a transmission). I take the car home. I go to pick up my daughter from school, and the transmission fault light turns on again, and I no longer have reverse. We call, they come and tow it again that evening, leaving me without a car, while I still have the responsibility of bringing kids to school in the morning.

They call now and tell me that my clutch is missing a gear and that FORD will not fix it under the warranty because it has nothing to do with problem. My car had reverse just fine when I brought it to them, now all of a sudden it does not have reverse. How many times does this have to happen to have FORD own up to their failure and fix the problem?

In Jan 2016 I purchased a brand new 2015 Ford Focus and paid almost $26,000 in cash figuring at my age (66) this car would last me for a while. What a piece of CRAP. At 300 miles it went it for a transmission problem. At 6000 it went back in again. I wanted to trade it in and they said it would only be $130000 for a new car with only 6000 miles fully loaded. I called Ford to buy it back. They refused stating I did not qualify for a buyback. Knowing that while drive on a highway, they state the car could just "lose power" and basically I could be killed. There was nothing they could do about it.

Research now I see the problem existed for over 3 years and Ford did nothing. Now I have a car I am afraid to drive. I feel in some way this constitutes fraud, knowing they had a problem and it CANNOT be fixed. I just got my car back a week ago, it bounces and hesitates, and smells of something. Probably transmission fluid leaking again. I took it in and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I had to get used to driving that since it drove much different than my Accord. I just kept thinking it was me. Flash-forward to this January. I am driving on interstate doing 70 and car stalls. Without warning. RPMs will skyrocket but car won't move. Transmission failure pops up. In the middle of this I am almost ran over by a logging truck. I get towed home. I take it in to Ford. They said it's covered and they "repair it" for free. I take it home, drive less than 50 miles and it begins to shudder and lurch me forward. The terrible road noise returns when speed's between 45-60.

I take it back. They "look at it" and say the codes don't appear and when driving it on the roads that don't go to that speed limi they can't get it to recreate. They keep brushing it off. I take it home driving about 50 miles. The car stalls uphill on interstate going 75. Again I am almost hit several times before I can get to the shoulder. RPMs skyrocket and I can't go. I pull over and then it off. Then it won't start. I finally get it to start and the shuddering is worse than before. It feels like someone is quickly slamming on the brakes between gears. Again 3rd visit to Ford and they say it can't be the 14m01 and 14m02 again and I'll be alright.

Well I take it home and it does it again. I call Ford. The lady said it matches all symptoms but she can't force repairs. Ford will not help past the first extended warranty repair. My car has dropped a lot in value. Not all repairs are on Carfax either. I can't even get rid of this car since it's basically valueless. Ford should buy this back above value and let me drive something I don't fear for my life in. This has gotten ridiculous.

Ok here's my story. I owned a 2014 Ford Focus. Nice looking car, red with tinted windows, bought it brand new. Car gave me problems at 2000 miles. Transmission light came on. Ok I said I'll take to the dealer. I took it at 5000 miles for the same reason and they said it's normal because I was pushing on the brake too much... Like stuck in traffic. I said ok sooo... Well they come with clutches and when you brake the clutches are on the transmission. Ok no one told me this when I bought it. Well I went off on the road again. The car begin to shudder at 10000 miles. Just bad got tired of it at 22000 miles. Went back to dealer and they said "you need new clutches." Ok put them on. Free. The car worked good for 3 months.

From 30000 miles to 440000 car would stall. Turn off by itself. RPMs would be at 2500 just parked or stuck in a red light... Left me stranded a couple of times. Went back again at 44000 miles. Told me "you need new clutches again." I said "** I'm filing lemon law case." I got a lawyer, filed Sept 2016 and now I can say I won my case. Ford bought my car back... Paid off my loan at 15k and gave me some money back. So to all the people that spend their hard earn money to buy yourself a vehicle... File a lemon law case. Get your money back.

Purchased a 2014 Focus in October 2016 with 20,000 miles from local Ford Dealer. Within a couple weeks I had to have clutch put in automatic transmission (shuttering - feels like someone that doesn't know how to drive with a clutch). Started reading up on issues online this is not a few vehicle with this issue. Was not a happy camper since I paid cash and now do not have the option money to put out on another vehicle. I asked for my money back but they seem to think this was all a joke. "All is being handling under warranty". Ok - however approx 2000 miles since the first clutch repair and the vehicle needs to go back into shop for same problem "shuttering". Consumer has to take off work to get vehicle back to the shop and find a way back and forth to work and home. I bought the car so I would have reliable transportation!

The dealer was aware of the issue and said they cannot replace the clutch until it is purchased and a warranty claim is made...WHAT. You willing state you knew but sold the vehicle and still are selling these vehicles with the problems not being corrected. Therefore, I have to take off work, find a vehicle or ride to work while my car is back in the shop. All the dealer can say is "it is a Ford issue" not the dealer. Funny I thought a Ford Dealer represented the manufacturer since that is what they sell. There seems to be no fixes for this issue except to continue returning and having the same issue fixed with the same issues. VW was made to be fair with the purchasers due to their error. Why isn't Ford responsible and giving us the option of returning our money that we have put out on purchase and I don't mind stating w/ tax I paid just over $15,000 and two weeks later the trade in value for this vehicle was $7000!! A great loss in value.

Shame on Ford especially from the clients that have stood behind them for years. I now know why others seek our foreign made vehicles! The Ford Focus is the worse vehicle I have owned. Another word of caution you will not get the gas mileage they state. I was getting 28 and as the clutch problem becomes more advanced your gas mileage will drop. I take my car back in this Wed and right now gas mileage is down to 26 and I am driving the same roads and speeds everyday. Where is the manufacturer and who holds them responsible!

January 12, 2016 I leased a 2015 Ford Focus with only 31 miles on it. The end of January I noticed quite a bit of shuttering but was told that the car will start driving correctly once I put 1500 miles on it and that it just needs to get used to my driving habits. As the next month came it continued to get worse so I took the car into the Ford Store in Morgan Hill in March to find out that I needed a new clutch. That was ordered and installed in April. The car continued to shutter, hesitate, and rattle. I've taken it in about 8-10 times within a year of having it. Each time they give me the same answer "It isn't giving us the number we need to see to have Ford engineering approve us to fix it." I've even mentioned that I feel unsafe while driving this vehicle because a few times on the freeway it didn't want to accelerate while merging on the freeway and I almost got hit by a Semi Truck.

I was given the number from the service advisor to file for a buy back if the problems continue, which they did so I filed a claim. The claim was denied and I was given no info on why. The Ford regional Manager of the San Francisco Region was supposed to call me with an answer but she explained it was denied by emails. The emails were addressed to a Mr. so I am assuming she didn't look into the case because I am a Ms. I have continued taking it in and recently got connected with the owner of the Morgan Hill dealership (Tim **) son in law whose name is Ryan. He sent me some deals he worked out on a trade in but I would have to purchase a 2017 or lease a vehicle that I did not like if I wanted to pay around the same price I am now. He said it was too late to get out of my lease but I could sell it to a private dealership if I wanted to. He did recommend that I have his technicians look at my vehicle one more time.

I started noticing a burning chemical smell that was so foul that I had to roll my windows down to breathe without it feeling like I was going to pass out so I took it in one more time. They had my vehicle for another 5 days and found a tag from a manufacturer part stuck in my exhaust pipe. The service advisor said that it was a coolant hose tag, and it was burning and melting which was the smell I was smelling. He said they would send it along with the results to Ford Engineering and give copies of everything to Ryan as well so we could look into a better deal with a buy back. I didn't hear from anyone for about a week so I sent an email and received a call from Ryan almost immediately. He stated that he had no idea what he was supposed to call me about but that he wasn't going to do a buy back and my only options were what he already worked out for me.

So I continue to drive my car that they say is fine, and that they say they are doing everything to help me but Ford Engineering will not agree to fix. This is my first experience with a dealership, and the reason why I went with Ford was because I wanted a dealership I could trust. This dealership was also referred to me from my boyfriend at the time who purchased a vehicle there a few weeks prior. When I was in the process of leasing the car my credit was not too good so the owner of the Ford Store called the bank who was going to give me the loan, and he had them do this favor for him so I could get the vehicle.

I feel like I am being taken advantage of not only as a consumer but a woman. If I was a man I don't think they would be giving me the runaround. I pay my payments on time and just want a vehicle I can feel safe in. I'm driving around in a vehicle that I can not drive more than 45 miles because of how bad it shutters after, I can not do my after work errands because of the shuttering and rattling sound it makes after stop lights and stop signs. I am limited to where I drive my brand new vehicle because it only does well on roads that do not have an incline. My vehicle does not even have 12,000 miles on it and it already feels like it's ready to give up.

I purchased a 2015 Ford Focus for my wife Sept 2016. I'm so disappointed with this car. And can you believe how much the value drop on this car because of the transmission. The problem we have when taking off, it feels like the car is jerking. I must say it a pretty car with a bad transmission and need to be recalled, or give owners full price on trade in.

I purchased a 2013 Ford Focus last year from CarMax and my experience has been awful. When I hit the gas to take off, the car shudders and even stalls sometimes, jerking me backward. The design is nice but the parts and build is terrible. The car has under 40,000 miles and the ride is rough. I can feel the car shift. This was my first car purchase and I regret it. This morning, out of nowhere, a transmission fail alert light came on along with my check engine light. I had to get the car towed to CarMax. This car has under 40,000 miles on it. I wish I had bought a different brand. Please don't buy this brand. A few months ago, my seat belt malfunctioned and CarMax had to fix it. CarMax has been lovely, this car is a piece of junk.

I am so incredibly livid with Ford Motor Co and their handling of the transmission issue. They knowingly continued selling a car with dangerous transmission issues for 5 YEARS (and complaints would have started coming in during 2011 and 2012)! PLEASE DO NOT EVER BUY THIS CAR - YOU WILL GET TO ABOUT 30,000 MILES BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. I purchased it at Charles Gabus Ford in Des Moines IA from a sales rep named Erica. They refuse to acknowledge their mistake to this day.

I asked Erica while purchasing the car about the reviews I read online, to which she laughed and responded that it was a bunch of baloney, and we literally had an argument over whether there was an issue while I was test driving the car. She insisted there was not. I felt obligated to purchase a separate $1000 warranty just to make sure they weren't screwing me over, because I had a bad feeling they were. The car had 22,000 miles on it, and right now, only has 24,500 and the issues everyone has described on this forum have already begun. I have two friends dealing with the same problems: one in a much worse boat than I am.

When I purchased the car, I just had back surgery the week prior, and simply needed a car with a nice, adjustable seat. I was only a week after surgery when she swindled me. This company and car are complete garbage. If I bought a $100 product that is crap - whatever, shame on me, no big deal. But a $14,000 product? SHAME on them! There is a class action lawsuit you can join for anyone who has also fallen victim to this fraudulent car. Please join it if you are having issues and let's show them how bad their business decision was. They don't care about anything but the almighty dollar - and now the "best selling car in America" is ruining people's finances and putting their lives in danger.

We have a junkie 2012 Focus that is in shop for 3rd trans. problem. First time was a month after we bought it in 2014 as a certified pre-owned Ford. It was fixed under the extended warranty Ford added because they knew they had issues. Car always made funny noises but was told it's normal. 2nd time the trans. went out they replaced all the clutches and seals because they were shot. Once again covered under Ford's warranty. Now 5 months later told by dealer that trans. is junk and needs to be replaced and it's not their fault and not covered under Ford's warranty. Even know they just worked on it. They even went as far as to say it was the way we drive. Now we are fighting with our warranty company that we bought when we purchased the car whether or not it covered. We will never buy a Ford again and hope it gets fixed so we can sell it even know we will take a big loss.

2012 Ford Focus, purchased new has only 31k miles. A problem developed with the fuel level gauge indicating full when in fact was near empty. Subsequently emissions codes PO420 and PO456 came in indicating catalytic converter problems. This problem has been known to Ford since 2013 and is described in multiple Technical Service Bulletins. The problem is identified as a faulty Evap Purge Valve. Ford although well aware of the potential for motorist to become stranded on the road has failed to proactively acknowledge this as a major safety concern.

This car has been to the dealer for (3) separate recalls none associated with this issue. This car has a safety problem Ford has been aware would develop for 3 years or more. At 31k miles this car has become unsafe to drive, the fuel tank could be pulled into a vacuum and collapse, the fuel vapor canister could become flooded and ruined, the catalytic converter could be damaged, and the exhaust emissions/error codes the vehicle would not pass an emissions inspection. This cannot pass emissions inspection. Ford's only response is "your 3 year warranty is up. It's your responsibility."

My car has run great for 49k miles, even the dual clutch auto transmission. It has quite a bit of power for a small car, the engine is very impressive, mpg is around 35 and I really like the firmness of front seats. I give it a little extra gas on takeoffs and go really fast at times from 0 to 60 which is good for the transmission and should blow some of the carbon buildup on back of valves.

Do not baby this car, drive it like a manual... I even put it in L gear and run it up to 4,000 rpms just to scrub clutch... I use mostly synthetic on oil changes and engine looks brand new under the oil cap. High Octane gas is good too for a direct injection engine so I do that once a month. This my 2nd Focus (bought a new 2007) and both have been very good. The 07 has 170k and still on road. I would buy another new Focus because I think they have dct kinks mostly worked out
