My air bag light stays on. If the air bag light is on, I have no air bag function in case of a car crash. The problem is an intermittent pretensioner connection at the seat buckle. The action required is to install the pretensioner kit affected by the diagnostic trouble code. The action required is to replace the whole seat belt assembly. My car is a 2002 Ford Explorer. The Ford Motor Co. sent a bulletin out (article # 03-11-3) dated 06/09/03 stating that they know about the problem and how to fix the problem. It is a safety issue.
It will cost me approx. $250 to fix this problem. Since it is a SAFETY issue, I feel that Ford Motor Co. having known about this SAFETY issue should replace the affected seat belt problem and should not be at my expense. It has been known to them for over 5 years, yet there is no recall or any offer available to remedy this situation.

While I was at work at about 1 in the afternoon I received a call from my wife that our truck (a 1997 ford) had caught fire (while parked in our driveway for 3 days) because of the speed control. I had received a recall from ford about it but didn't really think much about it because I used the truck for work purposes only and had only used the speed control a couple of times. About 2 or 3 weeks later I received another recall form that said, "your vehicle will catch fire."

While stopped at a traffic light with my foot on the brakes, a large BMW SUV ran the red light, hit my Ford Windstar Van doing approx. 40-50mph on the driver's side. The impact at the front headlight tore the wheel, tire, axle etc. off the van and the whole driver's side of the van was impacted. The SUV went airborne, crashing through a fence & landed in a field. I have both front & side airbags, neither of which went off.

On 10/11/08, I was headed to a catering event for 1000 people and my 2001 Ford F350 caught fire under the left side of the engine compartment. We went through 3 fire extinguishers and it was still burning. The fire was so hard to get to that when the fire truck arrived, they took a circular saw through the hood to put the fire out. Thank goodness I was able to recover just about everything and no one was hurt.

2001 Lincoln Navigator caught on fire. 10/01/2008 at 10:15 p.m. my vehicle was parked in the driveway having been driven last at 11:00 a.m. that morning. We tried to extinguish the fire with 3 fire extinguishers, but only managed to keep the flames low enough to move the other vehicles from the area. By 11:00 p.m. the fire department had extinguished the fire. The Fire Marshall investigated the car for arson, but ruled the fire as a faulty cruise control switch.

Until my 1995 Ford Ranger caught fire while I was driving, I was unaware of the Ford fire epidemic. My girlfriend and I were heading out shopping, making one stop for soda when we noticed the smell of burning plastic. I assumed there was a house fire until my gas pedal went limp and dropped to the floor. At that point I had no choice but to coast off the road where upon my girl pointed out the flames under the hood. By some stroke of luck a tow truck driver saw us immediately and pulled over with an extinguisher to save the day (not the truck). The only good I can see is that no one died or even got hurt and that it happened less than a mile from my house.

My 1992 Ford Ranger burst into flames after being driven 100m. The fires started in the dash behind the stearing column. I do not know the exact cause of the faulty wireing, however this truck did not have cruise control. I was able to control the fire with a garden hose and the fire department finished the job. Without action being taken in the first five minutes of the fire, I have no doubt the entire truck would have been involved and posed a great threat to anything around it.
The dash has extensive damage, and the truck is financially totaled. I relied on this truck for my contracting business. This incident will strain my finacial situation because I must replace the vehicle for work.

This September 5th 2008, while my husband and I were at work, our Bronco that we had just purchased in late March burst into flames and caught our garage on fire. 2 days after the fire we learned that there was a recall for the cruise control deactivator switch and that our specific vehicle had not been repaired and that the dealership was issued a recall notice 2 mo prior to our purchase of the vehicle. They never mentioned anything about a recall or a fire hazard.
Our two beloved dogs, Rocky and Junior were caught in the fire and killed. We also lost 1 motorcycle, 1 dirtbike, and countless other activity gear and family mementos. The garage thankfully was detached from the house so the house was barely touched. But the garage is completely demolished and we need to rebuild it.

I own a 1994 Ford F-150. I got a urgent recall notice in the mail two weeks ago telling me to bring my ruck in for no charge for the recall. I had no idea what this was about. Saturday august 30th I went to get my truck from my parents where I had been keeping it. They had just driven it the day before and it had been parked for 24 hours or more. At 6 pm I went outside because I heard a horn honking, to find my truck on fire.
The 1994 F-150 was a total loss. No other damage was caused by it luckily. I called the Ford dealer with my VIN number asking them what the recall was for and the service man told me for cruise control. I told him taht I couldn't bring it in because it had burned. He told me to call my insurance company, but the truck only has liability. I feel they are trying to hide the fact that my truck burned due to this obviously.

Life is tough enough without Ford (which by the way, we have driven Fords for over 45 years) making it harder on the average family. We may get the car fixed, sell it and go with a different manufacturer for the first time since 1962. Immediate fear when the strut broke and then swerving to get the car parked. Frustration and the cost of repairs. The extra cost to rent a vehicle in order to go on our long-planned vacation. Now...the mental anquish after reading all the reports of rear strut break and damage, to the car and emotional and financial to the families. This is unacceptable.

My 1998 Mercury Mountaineer was destroyed this past Monday August 18th 2008. I arrived at work around 7:45 am and was called by my General Manager around two hours later. She stated my vehicle was covered in flames. The local fire department arrived and put out the fire. My vehicle was destroyed, the fire so hot that only a small piece of metal remained of the engine and front end. After speaking with detectives and emergency workers about a possible cause, I decided to look into open recalls on my vehicle. I found this recall, and listed as unresolved. I called my insurance company right away and also contacted Ford who said I should contact my Insurance and would not answer any further questions.
I used this vehicle for work and of course personal reasons. This truck had been in my family for 10 years. We recently (1 YR ago) had repainted the entire truck. The interior was in perfect condition as well as the exterior. She had 110,00 miles, and ran like it did the first day we bought it. This truck made it through some very bad snow storms over the years and carried us and MANY family vacations. The loss was not only physical as now I need a new car. The loss was also personal, this vehicle was very sentimental to us. Now it is in a junk yard, thats what it gets for 10 years of loyal service.

On the night of 8/20/08, while driving down a 4-lane divided highway at approximately 70 miles an hour, the right front tire of the 2000 F-150 struck the curb resulting in yanking the steering wheel. This resulted in the truck swerving across all 4 travel lanes, the center divider, leaving the highway, hitting a ditch head on, leaving the ground and rolling over twice before finally coming to rest on the roof of the cab. At no point during this accident, either at the point of impact with the ditch, or at the point of slamming into the ground roof first did either airbag in the vehicle deploy.

Completed a two hour drive and parked the truck in the driveway, put it into park, set the brake, turned the key off and removed it from the ignition. I went into the house and went to bed. About 2 houra LATER i WOKE TO A POPING NOISE? I looked out the window and there was smoke between the cab and the bed. I grabbed my pants, shirt, and shoes (no socks) and ran to the front door. I opened the door and evaluated the siruation. I then dialed 911 for help from the fire department, the fire was far beyond my capacity to manage it. They arrived in 6 minutes and it took 3 hours to extinguish the flames? Upon their arriving the truck was totally involved. They sprayed my new VW Beetle down until it was safw to get into it and move it away from the Ford. I fully believe that if the fire department had not arrived so quickly, that the VW would have burnt and in turn my home would have gone up in flames!! MANY THANKS TO THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND SHAME ON FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR PUTTING SO MANY PEOPLES LIVES AT RISK--IN THE NAME OF PROFIT!! They should have taken care of the problem as soon as they knew it existed! Thinking back now I did wonder qhat the noise was that continued after shutting the truck off, sounded like a fan? It went off when I opened the door to exit the vehicle, I thought that was the way it was supposed to work, since it had done that since it was new? I was the first owner and I never received a recall letter. I had seen something about a recall on the 26 gallon fuel tanks, I called the local ford dealer and was informed that my truck had a 30 gallon tank and was not included in the recall? I have, until now, always trusted Ford Products and felt that the people building them took pride in a job well done--THAT IS NOT TRUE TODAY!!

My Ford Expedition (2002) caught fire at dr.'s office (Rancho Bernardo) after an hour of being off and parked. The medical facility annouced a car on fire with description and I ran outside and called 911 but fire department responded as I was still on the phone. The Firefighters told me that they suspected the cruise control switch started the fire and that they had scene these types of fires with Ford vehicles. I bought this car brand new, have always been the registered owner and never received a recall notice.
Thanks to the lightning speed of RB Fire there was no damage to anything except my vehicle. It only burned inside the engine compartment - infront of the driver side. But the vehicle was still declared a total loss due to high repair estimates. Our family was down to 1 car for a little over a month and we all work / go to school. On several days we had to get a rental car and did not have insurance to cover that so have not been reimbursed for the days we had to rent a car.

Unfortunately, all my time and money invested in this vehicle went up in flames on the morning of August 9, 2008. My neighbors woke me up at 4:40 am because a fire started under the hood. Fortunately, the fire department arrived quickly and the fire was contained to only the front end of the vehicle. Luckily, the vehicle was parked out on the street and no one got hurt. As I looked under the hood, it looked like the fire was started near the brake fluid reservoir. I did my own investigation on the internet and found out through this website there was a voluntary recall for almost all Ford vehicles with a speed control system. Apparently, Ford was to notify customers by mail about this recall. I RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION OF ANY KIND FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY! The good thing is that I do have full coverage and I am in the process of getting my claim through USAA. The bad thing is I have a $1000 deductible and after that is taken out it will leave me with only about $2500 dollars. How will I be able to afford a comparable replacement the only that much money? Hello, I purchased a 1993 Ford Explorer from the sole previous owner in May 2008. The vehicle was in very good condition with excellent service records. Inexplicably the vehicle set itself on fire in my driveway. It had not been driven in two days. I heard a clicking sound, saw black smoke from driver side and flames coming out of the dash. Within minutes it was engulfed in flames, causing a 3-alarm fire. The SUV was completely burned from front to back- just the tires left and frame.
The fire destroyed the siding on the neighbor's house, my vehicle was totaled, charred wreckage. My driveway is ruined. I am devastated as I had just purchased the vehicle and because of the age did not have full insurance coverage to cover my loss. The damage to the home next door is 18k, my driveway is ruined and I rent. Due to a layoff and other issues I am on unemployment which is so little, single mom of an 8 year old and now I have no vehicle. I am liable for the driveway, and in all due respect I need to at least pay the homeowners next door for their deductible on their homeowners insurance. I realize I have no financial claim for myself for the loss- but I want to know how this happens? I decided to search around on the history of fires in vehicles- somewhat overwhelming. I am devastated about this- the fire was horrible. The fire department suggested I write. Any information is appreciated on how this would of started, how I can warn others on this Ford, and if Ford would even want to know this? Thank-you, Susan Sweigart

Yes, vehicle is 68 months old and has 52k miles but just over the factory warranty. Seatbelt sensor driver's side failed, so SRS (airbag) warning light came on. Repair at Ford was $298. I could have done it privately for $160. But I was certain they'd honor our request and stand by product safety but they refused. Supposedly, three senior Ford customer service employees reviewed. All said not manufacturer's problem. I really doubt integrity of company that cannot build product safety or stand by integrity. We've purchased three new Fords since 1996, and while all are low miles, just too many things go wrong. In this case, with a 2002 Explorer and 52k miles, it seemed reasonable that Ford would be accountable.

I got to work at 8:26 a.m. Next thing i know the building manager came to my office and asked me my name and told me the fire department was looking for me because my truck had caught on fire. i was in shock for hours. I couldn't believe it. i had heard that ford vehicles could do that but I still didn't believe it.
When I got outside the front end of my truck was out of there. The inside was heavly smoked damaged and the truck ended up being a total loss. I immediately called my insurance company (Farmers) and all they did was pay what I still owed to carmax which was $3,859 and gave me a $57 check. Apparently Farmers goes by the private kelly blue book price not the retail value of the vehicle.
then i thought carmax would have given me some sort of incentive for paying my truck off early but nope. The sed i was actually getting a deal because if i had waited to finish paying it off I would have been paying way more than the $3859. *whatever*! Now I am stuck without a vehicle and no money for a down payment on a vehicle. My insurance company has yet to tell me the cause of the fire but if they find out it was due to ford's recall then they are going to go after ford themselves and see about getting their money back. Farmers told me I couldn't go after ford myself because nobody or nothing was hurt.
What about my vehicle? That was something that was hurt. I am so frustrated. i went ahead and got in contact with ford via e-mail a couple of days ago and they asked me for certain information. Now I have yet to hear back from them. i don't know what to do.

As I reported earlier, I had coil spring failure on my 2002 Ford Taurus. I recently found out on the NHTSA site that Ford added the 2003 model to the recall in effect for the 1999-2001 model years. I can't imagine why they omitted the 2002 models. (perhaps fears that they would go broke repairing or repaying for all those repair bills?) Mine was around $1000.00 and there are over 250 other 2002 owners with the same complaint on the NHTSA website which comes to a quarter million dollars and that's just to fix the cars I have read about not to mention those that haven't broken down yet. Also it seems that 250 is low because that comes up under a specific search for the front springs. When checking for general suspension problems (front and rear) even more occurrences show up. It's surprising to me that there aren't more injuries/fatalities involved since, luckily, most of the time the spring fails and pops a tire when the car is parked or moving at slow speeds.

I had intentions of picking up my 4 year old nephew from my mothers home and running some errons in town. My 12 year daughter was at swim practice and I knew that I would have to pick her up at 7:30 that night. Thankfully, I got side tracked talking to my mother. We sat on her back deck for aprx. 20+ minutes before going inside her house. We stayed in her house for aprx.another 20-30 minutes talking. As I sat in her living room, I heard what sounded like a gun shot blast. BOOM. I asked my mother what was that noise? I then got up and looked out her door only to see my Escape engulfed in flames on the front end. We immediately called 911 and started trying to put the fire out with the water hose and fire extinguisher, along with the help of my 16 year old brother and my moms neighbor. My moms Dodge Ram was parked in front of my vehicle so she had to jump in her truck and move it before it caught fire too. The fire dept. arrived and finished putting out the fire but it was already a complete loss. No one was hurt but it was an extremely frightening occurance. There is a written article that appeared in the July 5th Edition of the Sampson Independent Newspaper (Clinton, NC). This article includes a picture of the vehicle. It was a total loss. Although Geico was wonderful to deal with and did pay off the vehicle, Ford refuses to reimburse me anything, stating Your insurance company has the right to pursue claims for reimbursement against Ford Motor Company. Ford is unable to investigate your claim as the claim with your insurance company has been paid or has been processed. This is not acceptable and consumers need to stand together. I am very upset with Ford.

Well only after having this vehicle for a little over 3 months, on July 8, 2008. My father and I were on the way to work--though we ride together I usually start the morning communute by driving the vehicle first. Once I had arrived at my job (at about 9 am), I got out and my father did as well to switch over into the driver seat. As I walked past the front end of the car I smelled a odd odor--not of anything burning (at the moment), but something like I suppose I can liken it to radation water/fluid smell--but at the time thought it was just due to being a warm morning and maybe thinking the car was just running slightly due to the weather and humidity (after the incident, my dad later mentioned he had smelled the same thing, but thought maybe it was a smell that was passing in the breeze--not thinking [at first] it was from our vehicle). After I got out, my dad jump into the driver seat and drove off to his job. It couldn't have been no more than 10 or 15 minutes into me being at work, I received a frantic call from my dad stating our vehicle had caught on fire! From what he described to me, after he got to job (thankfully) he said when he pulled up he noticed once he cut the car off it immediately started smoking (the smoke was coming from under the hood). When he went around and pop the hood of the truck he said that's when he saw the flame; next he knew then it just got bigger and spread from there.
The consequences from all of this? How about let's start with the fact that our vehicle is completely worthless, it's a charred mess of it's former self; leaving us with partically no transportation to and from work (except through family and public bus lines). The other half is the (used) car dealership that we purchased it from still wants us to pay for it; so for the temporary moment it seems as though were screwed--even though upon later research, I found out that this very year and model of Explorer we had was part of a recall. Of course, judging by the fact that our vehicle going up in flames, I'd think it be safe to say that clearly someone drop the ball on seeing to it that this vehicle was properly serviced for it.

When I got out to the parking lot my truck was in flames, about 15 feet in the air. Everyone ran outside, some moving their cars out of harms way.
There was heat damage to 3 cars parked around me. The fire department had been called and they got there just as the truck began to pop.

The fire department responded and recommended we contact ford to see if there were any open recalls. We did contact Ford, however they claim that they sent us a notice in March and August of 2006 (note that we did not own the vehicle then) they also claim they sent us a notice in August of 2007. Which he did not, actually he stated he never got notice either. reguardless weather he did or not, it was not his responsibility anyway. I am a Florida Dealer in New Port Richey, FL. Yesterday, April 25 I was awaken by the Fire Dept. to informed me that one of my vehicles, a 2001 Ford F-150 Sport Model cuaght on fire while TURNED OFF at the lot. The truck was total and burned to a crisp.
The truck was total. One of the vehicles next to the truck, a 2002 Lincoln LS was cinched with over (my estimate) $2000.00 worth of damage. The lot was a complete mess from all the fire damage. We are still evaluating all the loss business because of this fiasco. We do have a Fire Dept. Report and a Police report as well. They say the cause of the fire was a faulty cruise control thing that keeps running even when the vehicle is turned off. Its been a devastation to the Dealership as we cannot remove this vehicle for all the appropiate parties to do their determination. I do have pictures of all the mess.

Wow!! I was trying to find information on my 2002 Ford Taurus front, left coil spring, which had broken today, when I came across this website. This is amazing: how can this not be recognized as a recurring problem for recall? While leaving my driveway on my way to work I heard the loud sound of a tire blowing out and immediately saw that it was the left front side. The coil spring had broken about 6 inches up on the first coil from the bottom leaving the small piece fall to the ground and allowing the remaining spring in place to slip sideways and literally shred the tire sidewall. Sound familiar, Ford? Just a coincidence, right?

The front left coil spring on my 2002 Ford Taurus snapped causing the stabilizer link to break. It also nearly punctured the tire. There is a recall for models up to 2001. I feel the problem was not corrected for the 2002 model as there are over 250 complaints for this same thing on the same model, make and year on the NHTSA website. I was also told by the mechanic that one of the rear coil springs is also broken. I would like Ford to consider extending the recall to cover all models which have this problem. I have read it was due to the springs having very poor corrosion resistance in areas where salt is used on the street for ice and snow control.

As my wife called 911 I raced to the vehicle with a fire extinguisher. My efforts were in vain and the flames consumed the front of the car as the fire department arrived. My wife had driven the car the previous afternoon and it had been parked sinc 3:30 pm. We had never been informed by Ford of any problems with the vehicle. Front coil springs broke on my 2000 Taurus, only I didn't know that was the problem until AFTER I had paid over $1200 to my repair shop to get them replaced and to replace the broken axle and the scored tire caused by the broken springs. Turns out this is an EXTREMELY common problem with this model. THEN after I get the car back I discover there was a recall on these cars for just this problem in 2004. I'm not the original owner, so I had no way of knowing this. Went to the local Ford dealer (Brondes) to try to get reimbursement for my expenses in repairing THEIR defective product. After a good deal of flack from service manager, I eventually got them to submit the bill to Ford. Got a check for a whopping $338 in the mail a few days later--this is maybe a THIRD of what this repair cost me. Needless to say, did not cash the check. Called Ford customer support in Dearborn. After a very lengthy call was informed that the $338 was all I was going to get--take it or leave it. They said I should have gone to the Ford dealer in the first place. I replied that there was no way I could have known what the problem was (not being a certified mechanic) OR that there was a recall out for that problem. I went to a reputable (AAA) shop, no fly by night place. The Ford reps' implication was that whenever any work was done on the car it ALWAYS had to be done at their dealership, just on the off chance that it might be a recalled item. What car owner goes to the dealer for every single service visit?? Now I'm preparing to go to small claims court to recover my costs, but what are the odds of a lone 60 year old grandmother winning against the Ford Motor Co.? I wouldn't bet on me, myself! I hope there's a class action suit against Ford. This defect could have killed me if a tire had blown when I was going 65 on the highway.

2000 Ford Taurus:In February of this year front left coil spring broke while driving, shredding the tire and breaking the sway bar. Ford replaced the springs on both sides and also the sway bars. They would not replace the tire and I had to pay for an alignment after the work which, they also would not pay for. During the time of the repairs I was told the struts were shot. Of course they are after all those years with defective springs, but ford would not assist with those either. Although there was a recall on the springs I still had to pay almost $400 for the repairs. Before the front spring broke I have a rear spring that is broken but was told by Ford there is no recall because the material used on the front springs is different then the material used in the rear springs. How is that when they break just as often.

A year or so ago, both of the rear springs on my 2002 Ford Taurus (68000 miles) were discovered to be broken. The back of the car was scraping at times so I had the dealer check them. I had to pay to fix them. On April 10, 2008, I noticed that the front tire on the driver's side was flat. I tried to fill the tire with air but it was coming out as fast as I was trying to fill it. Then I noticed that the spring was broken and was sticking in the tire. Luckily it broke in my driveway. A couple days before, I was traveling at freeway speeds. I called the Ford dealer and was told there was nothing they could do as far as warranties or recalls. I found out that the 2001 and previous Taurus's did have a recall or extended warranty covering only the front springs. Supposedly they added a shield to the spring in 2002 and later years so the tire wouldn't be punctured. We could find no shield. When I got a new tire from the Goodyear dealer, they told me that the Ford Taurus was known for all the spring problems. I am almoist afraid to ride in my Taurus because of the inherent spring problems. We have been a Ford family since my dad had a 1936 Rord.

At about 12pm I was awoken by a passer-by yelling that my truck was on fire. I then ran outside to discover my Explorer engulfed in flames. Upon calling 911 the local fire department responded, but not after the Explorer was completely ruined. Also, 95% of my belongings in the truck were ruined by smoke, heat, and fire damage. This included school books, clothing, my own fire department and ems gear, and pretty much anything else in the truck.
The cost of the truck could be estimated at about $1500. I have not made a complete list of what was in the truck and estimated costs but a quick estimate would put it possibly over $2000. Also being a college nursing student, most of my books and notes were ruined, along with my uniforms which I had to quickly replace. I notified my insurance company, National Highway Traffic Safety Bureau and the New York State Attorney General, all to no avail. Exactly a year to the day in Sept 2007 I received a recall from Ford stating my car had a potential fire problem-- I again notified Ford and they told me in effect to bad, your insurance company paid you for the car which they did, but not hardly what it was worth. I told Ford they should replace our car or pay for the other car my wife had to purchase as a result of her loss. They had no sympathy. My attorney general told me to notify the NHTSB and the NHTSB told me they have no clout in dealing with my problem. I am still quite agitated with this whole situation I feel that Ford should be held accountable for people losing their cars or worse, homes or lives because of their lack of concern in this matter. Do you know of any class action suit filed for this problem?? if so how can I get involved in it. I appreciate any information you can furnish.

During this process, the mechanic noticed that BOTH of my rear end springs were broken and he recommended that I have it looked at right away as these springs could potentially pop right up through my wheel wells and/or into the trunk of my car! I had Firestone look at the vehicle this morning and they tell me that, not only are my rear coil springs broken but my front ball joints are loose and on their way out too. They recommend that I allow them to install a quick strut assembly to the tune of $765. OR, I could opt to have them install just the spings to the tune of $438, but I should bear in mind that the current struts could also go at any time. As for the front ball joints, they will replace those for $500. Of course, after they install the strut assembly, they will need to do a re-alighnment. This will cost $70.00. So I am looking at a repair bill of $1,335.00 - and NOW I find out in reading all these complaints that this is a well-documented on-going problem with the Taurus? The next morning, Thursday February 21, 2008, I drove the truck to the diner for breakfast. At the diner I opened the hood and again checked the switch. It was wet. I drove across the street to the dealer and had him look at the switch. He took a tissue and wiped around the crimp and it was indeed wet with brake fluid. The dealer then took my truck inside and replaced the replacement switch. This does not give me a secure feeling knowing the new switch immediately leaked. Something needs to be done about this problem. This has gone on far too long without a satisfactory solution. How can I trust this?
Is it economic damage to lose the use of your Cruise Control for 6 months while Ford drags it's feet? Is it economic damage to lose peace of mind about something as simple as parking your vehicle in your garage without worrying that a switch that shouldn't have power to it when the ignition is off could suddenly cause a fire? I don't know the answer.

Called early Jan., told part not in, call back Feb. Called mid-Feb., told part not in, call back March. No speed control 3+ months @#*%!
Meanwhile I have no speed control since last Fall. I live in a big state, lots of long distance driving. Big hassel! Is there any way to light a fire under Ford? I'm tired of the stonewalling!!

On Feb 4, 2008 I brought the car to Apple Valley Ford for repair. They replaced both rear coil springs as they were BOTH broken. ($370) I knew the Ford Taurus's were having major problems with coil springs, but the recall ended with the 2001 year model, mine was a 2002. My car was also out of warranty. I asked for some assistance with paying for this repair because of the known problems associated with coil springs. The dealer said they could do nothing and instructed me to call region. I called region and they promptly told me that they would do nothing either. Needless to say, I will NEVER own another Ford product. They openly admitt on the website that these coil springs are defective when road salt comes into contact with the springs. I mean do they really think that us consumers are freaking stupid. The back coil springs are the same fing part as the front springs and still they refuse to replace the rear ones. So in the mean time I a full time collage student, will continue driving the vehicle in hopes of not slamming into a brick wall or an on coming vehicle for that matters untill I'm able to repair the vehicle myself. I was told the vehicle had been thoroughly inspected by their shop as they do prior to selling a vehicle. After our purchase we put 600 miles on the vehicle, when we felt the front pulling towards the left so we took it into Tires Plus in Detroit Lakes, MN. We where then informed the vehicle had both lower front ball joints out and broken springs in the rear and front tires were also in need of replacement. I contacted Phelps Family Ford where we purchased it, and they agreed to repair the vehicle with us paying half the cost. However when the repairs were completed they forgot to put in some type of cushion on top of the rear driver side spring. When we left the dealership we had a really loud thump in the rear of the vehicle when bumps where hit or tar strips. When we returned home we called Phelps and they said to bring it back in and get it fixed right. They kept it for several days and called to inform me that the spring tower would need to be replaced if they fix it. They said that it would be very expensive and it would be okay to operate the vehicle the way it is with out damaging it. After talking to Detiot Lakes Ford Dealership I was informed that the repair handling of the Ford Dealership in Perham was very shoddy and should have been done right, and with all the problems Mercy has had with the Sables springs that it is asking for more problems with not fixing it. I then called Phelps and was advised the cost would be around $1300.00, that I would be liable for. I can barely afford the payments let alone more repairs on this vehicle. I bought this vehicle at what I thought was a high book value but I felt it would be a good investment considering the shop had thoroughly inspected it and found nothing wrong. You can be dead sure that he won't make the same mistake again. Ford needs to understand that Americans expect the American Car makers to provide a safe car or truck for them to drive. It is not all about looks! We are talking about people being killed by known defective parts. When China does it, its all over the news, when our own American Motor Company does this the media is so scared of loosing its advertising revenue the story is skipped over. Do you know how this makes a family feel who has had to Identify a burned corpse of a loved one? Then to have the spokesperson of Ford Motor Company Mr. Dan Jarvis state Jarvis said that the real story in the August 2007 recall is that Ford proactively and voluntarily recalls those vehicles not based on reports of fires, but to alleviate customer concerns.? Delicia Lewis, the mother of 22 year old Payton Tyler Lewis a customer states He has had his concerns alleviated (to make something such as pain or hardship more bearable or less severe) Paytons pain is gone, Paytons hardships are bearable, because Payton is lifeless (no longer burning or able to burn), no longer able to operate because of a fault, breakdown, or loss of power . But, I am not alleviated, I have the power, and I still have concerns. People are being killed, houses are being burned down and Ford is not taking responsibility , they would rather act as though we do not exist , but we do and all the families affected by this will continue to stand-up for our loved ones that can no longer speak for themselves.?

After a search, my mechanic informed me that he found a recall on my vehicle for faulty front springs and gave me copies of the work done to my car to turn in to Ford for reimbursement. Multiple calls and letters were sent and I was informed that my springs had been replaced with the previous recall but the warranty on the replaced springs had expired. Further research resulted in finding that the springs were not replaced from the recall for they were not broken at the time and they replaced the spring guards only. Further communication with Ford now resulted in a supposed policy and program for recalls to have their automobiles taken to a ford dealer only for repairs of recall items so no reimbursement is allowed. I have contacted the state's attorney general office who only forwarded my letter to the ford company who continue to deny my claim although I was unaware of the recall program and I still feel that since it was their fault, they are responsible. We have a 2003 Ford Expedition. On 12/29/07, while driving to dinner on a flat surface, our side curtain airbags deployed, FOR NO REASON. We took the car to our local Ford dealership, Payton-Wright Ford, Grapevine, TX. They checked the sensor modules and the modules showed there had been an imminent rollover. Since the module showed this, the dealership said that is what happened. We contacted Ford in Detroit; they contacted the dealership to get their diagnosis, imminent rollover, therefore, Ford Detroit says we had an imminent rollover and that is that.
Ford will not entertain that their product was faulty and deployed for no reason. We have contacted our insurance company about this too. They don't cover a deployment without collision. We are caught between what a faulty sensor says and our word. Ford Detroit, our local dealership, the insurance adjuster, etc. all say they have never seen or heard of this. Our position is that just because you haven't heard of this, it doesn't make it impossible. There are malfunctions with autos on a regular basis. We would expect that Ford would be concerned about this freak incident and want to do everything in their power to make things right in what could have been a very serious incident.
Fortunately, neither my husband nor I were injured by the force of the deploying airbags, not to mention the scare while driving 60 mph down a major tollway. Ford only cares that they've never heard of such a thing and the sensor says it was an imminent rollover, plus our vehicle has 62,000+ miles and is out of warranty. No one wants to accept the possibility; however, after us pursuing this, we have gotten them to prepare to send a Ford Engineer out to look at the vehicle. However, we know that Ford will claim that we did get this automobile on two wheels to create the imminent rollover situation so that they do not have to accept any responsibility for their faulty vehicle. Our insurance adjuster went out to the vehicle yesterday and gave us the bad news that it will cost us $3,875.00 to get this repaired. Know that it's not just the airbags (both passenger and driver side curtains), it's the sensors and headliner that now have to be replaced because of this faulty part. We are certainly able to afford to repair this. However, it should not be our responsibility to do so; we did not cause this to happen.

This sounds JUST like many others...On 12/13/2007 Thursday Morning, (sure it was a standard midwest snowy morning) I was simply backing out of my driveway when, in the first inch, I felt a snap and the front driver side of my 2003 Ford Taurus Wagon dropped. I thought it was just a flat, but on Saturday I jacked it up and found the Spring snapped in half and cut through my tire.

I drive a 2002 Ford Taurus. This past Thursday, I was on my way to work when the front coil broke and nearly ruptured my front tire, which could have been deadly for me. Had it towed to my mechanic who told me this was a serious problem with my kind of car, and that I should call Ford to see if I can get reimbursed as this is a safety issue and should have been recalled. So I phoned Parkway Ford and they asked for my VIN#. They said 'sorry, can't help you as the warranty is only good for 3 years.' The fact that this is a design problem that could kill someone apparently makes no difference. Total bill was $330.00. Then the very next day, I turn on my car and hear this horrible high pitched whine and none of the gears would work. The transmission is shot! I am furious and disgusted that the transmission would go on a 2002 For Taurus. I'm calling the Customer Service line tomorrow to complain and I will continue to complain until they do something. My father always swore by a Ford, but unless they are willing to help me out with this, I will never buy one of their products again.

I hope Ford didn't give them to the spring company and collect on defective material. I would like to have my money back and contact the company who made these springs- They have a manufacturing problem and we are paying for it. Does anyone know who manufactered these springs? Our 2000 Ford Expedition (bought new by us in Houston prior to moving to Florida) with almost 130,000 miles sat in the driveway in front of our house unused for 2 days. The morning of October 24, 2007 the truck spontaneously combusted and caught our house on fire. The damage is so extensive that estimates are close to $400,000 for the house excluding contents. Almost all our furniture was destroyed and 30 -35% of our clothes. It was determined by an independent laboratory that the cruise control switch was the cause. We are now living in a rental house until our house can be rebuilt in approximately 7 - 12 months.

I bought a new F150 2007 4 door truck in August. One day after getting it home, I realized that it was having some electrical issues in the dash functions. It was in and out of the Ford dealership 3 times in 3 weeks. I had only had the truck about 9 days total in 1 month. I was driving home one day from the store and the whole truck died on me. Everything went out. I managed to pull the truck over to a parking lot and felt heat at my feet. I looked down and flames were coming in the cab of the truck from the bottom part of the dashboard. I tried to open the door and it would not open..would not unlock...everything was dead. Thank goodness I had the driver's side window down when this happened. I jumped out the window and ran. When I looked back, the entire truck was up in flames. I injured my stomach jumping out of the window as well. Ford was less than helpful in this whole matter. They refused to offer warranty on the truck. They only offered to let me pick out another truck (of lesser value than the one I purchased originally) and continue to make the payments from the original truck for the next 5 years. My wife and I are currently trying to decide what to do with this matter. No resolution yet. We certainly are not going to take Ford's lame offer...we will never drive a Ford again.

The front left coil spring on my 2002 Ford Taurus fractured, puncturing/slashing the adjacent tire. The force of this fracture also shattered the stabilizer control link and destroyed the strut mount. Ford Motor Company has a recall program for this issue on 2001 Tauruses, but not on later models.

I had a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria that on 11-19 when I arrived at work caught on fire from an electrical problem per the Fire Dept. that totalled my car. After research on the internet I now know that this WAS caused from a faulty speed control device that had stopped working around 3 weeks prior. I started to have fuses blown over the week-end and was to have it checked out that day.

In September 2007 my husband was driving the family to camp and we smelled fuel really bad. The smell went away, but the next business day I called to make another appointment to have it checked out. Unfortunately, later that evening my husband was driving down the road and the vehicle caught fire. Luckilly he and his friend were able to jump out before it totally exploded.

I was woken at 5:00 this morning to fire engines driving through my apartment complex. I walked out to realize that my 2000 Ford F-150 was burning. I had driven it about 18 hours earlier. I had to explain to my insurance company that it just spontainiously burst into flames, and in hearing how unlikely that sounded I decided to research this and found that it is quite common. I have never recieved a recall notice, nor have I heard of this problem so I could fix it myself.

Total cost; $690.00 I called Ford and they only cover the 2000 and 2001 models. This is a safty issue and Ford should add the 2002 models to the recall. I will be worried about the rear springs now!

They wanted $450.00 to fix the problem this is unacceptable and I did not fix the rear coil springs . Now I have driven cars for years, I have yet to see any car I've driven have any coil spring break because of rust or severe use. This is an outrage that they can't cover their Quality problems in an honest manner, and fix the problem instead of covering it up. I'm sure Mr. ford would not approve of this issue.I think they need to fix their problem regardless front or back...

I was going to inspect the rear shocks, I thought that they may have lost there charge and needed replacement. I never knew or previously heard of a possible harmful failure due to the rear coil springs.
.At this time I'm not currently driving the vehicle and I'm considering what I should do,wait or preform repairs myself. I went online to do research and found other complaints regarding simular failures. This is an obvious problem that should be addressed to the public and rectified.
