My 97 Suburban which was parked next to a Ford truck on the job that caught on fire was damaged. The owner of the vehicle's insurance company, Farmers Insurance, declined my claim to pay for the damage on the truck because they state the facts clearly show the the cause of the damage was not negligence on the insured. (the fire was caused by a mechanical issue that Ford Manufacturers would be responsible for based on the recent recalls in the ford model trucks) It seems that I should not be the one paying for something was not my fault as well.

I own a 1997 Ford F150 xlt 4x4. I hadn't driven it for over 24 hours, was in the front yard mowing the lawn when we noticed smoke billowing out of the engine compartment. I immediately opened the hood and noitced the smoke was coming from a sensor on the master brake unit. The sensor was completely melted and smoking.

I disconnected the battery and called a couple Ford dealerships to find out any info (recalls, etc.) They offered no help - suggested that the problem may be a short due to mice, etc. I then got on the internet and began discovering the horror stories of F150 owners and engine compartment fires due to wiring.

My husband was blinded by the driver airbag on a 1993 FORD Crown Vic in September 2002. It was a low-impact single car accident with a BEV of 8 MPH when he went into a ditch to avoid a suddenly stopped car in front of him. Ford has had many cases since then, but will still not recall these cars for 1992-1996, which include the Grand Marquis. FORD LOST a case in 2000 (Hoffman vs. Ford) and according to Automotive News: FORD was aware of airbag complaints that had been made by consumers, but FORD says they did nothing because no one ever filed a lawsuit. Since they lost the Hoffman case, FORD still has not recalled the cars for the defective airbags. During a $1 Billion cost saving by FORD, they changed the airbag sensors from 5 to 3 sensors. This saved FORD $18-$25 per car. This cost saving is costing people their lives or they are being blinded when the airbag doesn't go off when it should. The 1993 FORD Crown Vic's airbag is released into your face at 220 MPH.

We lost the case against FORD last month. The jury was never able to hear all of the truth from the accident and Ford twisted and confused the jury so much that they won. That is what happens in the courts. All of us must keep pursuing these injuries in the courts. The airbag may save lives, but the results to families are devastating financially and emotionally.

I purchased a new Ford Explorer in 2003. While on vacation in Nashville TN this month April 2005, I dropped my wife off at the mall and went to get gas and some cash. Because of a large truck at the pumps I pulled over and parked at the edge of the parking lot to go in and get cash from the ATM and then came out to get gas. When I opened my door black smoke began to rush out of my dash.

I immediately had the fire department called. They were there within 5-10 minutes but the entire explorer was totally burned. The SUV was not even running when it caught on fire. I lost thousands of dollars of personal items along with the vehicle. Of course my insurance will only pay what the book value of the vehicle is and with it purchased new I am upside down.

You would think that Ford should and would pay the difference on a vehicle that is only two years old that is totaled by fire from bad electrical wiring.

My 1998 Ford Explorer burst into flames in front of my home. The only reason my vehicle was not parked in the attached garage was that I was having work done to the driveway. It was a blessing in disguise. After an arson investigation, it was determined to be an electrical fire of some sort. Ford would not take any responsibility and now 6 months later the continuous stories of Ford vehicles catching fire and recalls of vehicles with the same mechanics is very suspicious.

My vehicle and its contents were completely destroyed. My car insurance only covered the bluebook of the vehicle and none of the contents. Ford suggested I go through my home owners insurance, but I refused since the deductible and possibility of cancellation did not seem reasonable given this was the fault of Ford as far as I was concerned. To this day there has been no further contact with Ford.

The contents was close to $1500. The cost I am incurring due due the purchase of a new car was one I had not budgeted on. I had to come up with a $4,000 downpayment and my payment went up approximately $150 for an additional 3 years. I refused to purchase another Ford. In fact, my husband is now selling his 2002 F-150.

My 1997 Ford F 150 pick up had just had the cruise control fixed. The cruise quit working last fall and I decided to go through the winter before having it fixed. After I got the vehicle back from repair, I parked it back in the garage where it is always kept. The next morning, about 12 hours after the repair, I washed and waxed the truck and then moved it out to the street so that we could come and go with our other three cars. The truck had been drive the length of three houses and parked for 45 minutes when it started on fire. It was not running at the time and was not even warmed up from the 3 house drive 45 minutes earlier. The truck was a total loss.

Normally, the truck would have been in the garage and we would have also lost our home.

My 1998 Ford Expedition XLT caught fire 3/3/05. At the time I was going to bed, if anything had happened at all different, my family and I might not be here to talk about this today. I arrived at home and parked vehicle in garage ~5:15pm. My wife walked on the treadmill (which is in the garage) from 7:15 – 7:45pm and did not smell or notice anything unusual. At 10:00 pm I looked through garage door to make sure lights were out and garage doors shut. I noticed a small red light below the truck. After further investigation, I found it was a flame.

I came back in the house, told my wife to notify the fire department. I used a hose and fire extinguishers to exhaust flame as the fire department arrived. The heat was so intense it melted the garage light lens above the vehicle. The vehicle would not go into neutral due to damage, so I used my neighbor’s truck to pull the vehicle out of the garage. The fire started at the cruise deactivation switch according to a Fire Investigators report.

I parked the truck that evening & had not touched it in the following month and a half.

On December 10, 2004 my wife canceled the insurance sense my plan was to leave it parked until spring or I could afford to get it fixed. I was in an accident 1 week ago and my airbags didn't deploy. I was hit in the side by a vehicle. I do not know exactly how fast they were going. But they were going fast enough to flip my truck over on its side and spin it around where their car collided again with mine head on while my truck was up on its side. I had just picked my cat up from having surgery. I had it in a very large pet carrier in the passenger seat. I suffered from pain all over. Even though I had my seat belt on, I still got thrown around (that is understandable, I guess). It was God that I was not seriously injured. But it makes me feel like I need to address this issue because what if I really needed the airbag to deploy for my safety, or if I had another person with me. Any advice?

My 1996 Ford Bronco caught fire as it was parked in front of my house. A neighbor called me at 2:24 AM to inform me that my truck was on fire. It had been parked for approximately 18 hours. The fire started in the engine compartment and appeared to have started on the driver side since the left side seemed to have endured the most intense heat.

The vehicle was a total loss. The economic loss was significant in that the vehicle, although having 93,000 miles, was in excellent condition. It had been meticulously maintained as I had no intentions of ever selling it. I purchased the vehicle because 1996 was the last year for the big Bronco and I really like that particular body style.

I bought the expedition because it is promoted as this extremely safe family suv and the seatbelts don't work!!! if the ford company considers this normal wear and tear for a vehicle then obviously i bought from the wrong company. I recently purchased a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport. I looked at one other before making my choice and they both had a similar malady, the driver's side seat back release / adjustment lever was broken off. I priced having a dealer replace it and the cost exceeded $160. I opted to purchase the part and replace it myself, only to find that within a week of normal driving, and not even using the lever except to set the adjustment after installation, the lever is bent 90degrees and only operational if I bend it back to its original shape. It's clear now why these things break, a few bends back to operating position and they will snap. When I called Ford's Consumer Service department they made it sound as though I was the only person to ever have complained about this problem. I can easily see why, at $160 plus to replace this part each time it breaks, and with no resolution in sight, they must be making millions on this!

Because we were not moving when the airbags deployed, the car in front of me had no damage and there was no damage to the front end of my car. The airbags blew the windshield out completely. As a result of this, I sustained 2nd degree burns to my right hand, slight case of whiplash and stiffness in my neck and back. I was wearing my seatbelt, but I do not have a seatbelt bruise across my chest because there was no speed involved in this incident. I have a fear of driving my car once it's repaired. On January 19, 2004, I was leaving Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert, California. I was driving my 2000 Mercury Cougar approximately 5 to 10 miles when I went over a speed bump. After going over the speed bump, my passenger and I heard a loud noise. I pulled over to the side of the road at which time we realized that the side air bag on the passenger side had deployed.

On Tuesday, January 20, 2004, I took the car to the Santa Monica Lincoln Mercury dealership at 1229 Santa Monica Blvd. located in Santa Monica, CA. where I purchased it. I was told by the service representative that the technician that knows the most about air bags was out until the following week. He suggested that I bring the car back then which I did. I left the car for the remainder of the week. On Friday when I picked up the car, I was told that it would cost approximately $1,300 to repair the seat and nothing was covered under the extended warranty. The dealership did not tell me what its technician had found. I ordered and paid for the parts that cost over $900. I have yet to get the car repaired.

I subsequently contacted the extended warranty company myself. I was informed that the dealership's report indicated the airbag went off because of going fast over the speed bump. I asked to speak to a supervisor to explain that I had not been going fast over the speed bump. The supervisor that I spoke with said that there was nothing that could be done because I was at fault for going too fast over the speed bump.

I subsequently contacted the Ford Motor Company by email about the situation; however, I never got a response. I phoned the extended warranty company again and was told I never received a response because my complaint had been addressed. The findings of the dealership are inaccurate. I can say without a doubt that I was not going fast over the speed bump, and my passenger will tell you the same thing. The airbag was faulty and for that reason went off.

A week later I got a letter saying the truck was out of warranty and there's nothing they can do about it. This is not right!
I planed on keeping this truck for a long time and now it is totaled due to a machanical problem that the manufacturer will not acknowledge. My insurance did not cover fire damage. During my investagation I have found this is not an isolated incident. This has hapened to a lot of these trucks around the same year. What now?
On 7/11/2003 I had been parked in front of a friend's house for about 4 hours. A neighbor saw what he described as arc welding flashes comming from the engine compartment reflecting on the street. I did not know anything was amiss until we saw from the living room window the flashing lights of the fire truck which had been called. When I opened the front door I was horrified to see 2-ft flames coming out the left wheel well.

Needless to say my baby was a complete total. The entire front end, including the passenger compartment all the way to the front seat, was incinerated. The so called firewall simply melted. We eventually settled out of court after years of agony, and my brother's subsequent death due to cancer (I believe exasperated due to the Ford case) rather than go thru even more years of endless Ford appeals. Ford could care less about this design flaw and continues to manufacture death traps.

On 31st May, we went to the library to drop off our books. We parked our car, and I got down to drop the books. My wife, who was sitting on the passenger side went to shut the ignition off, As she was doing it, she could see the side air bag about to blow out. She brought her hand forward to cover her face and was hit by the blown air bag. AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED.

The car is a 1999 Mercury Cougar. Smoke started coming out and we had to call the fire department. Per fire department captain, they have never seen this case before. The smoke was just the air bag powder.

Here is the summary of the damage: Side Air Bag deployed. Air Bag cover hit the windshield which cracked the whole windshield. The force of deployment also popped out air vent and the dash board. When we called up Ford, they asked us to claim it through our insurance. But when we told them that it did not make sense (As we will also have to pay our co-pay) they told us to send the vehicle to a Ford dealer where they can run diagnostics.

Six months back this vehicle had the Ford-recommended 60,000 mile service/check completed with no issues found. Current mileage is around 64,000. Ford says that one of the modules was faulty and also this module has warranty of 5 years or 50,000 miles. But this was not mentioned in any of their service manuals. Also nobody pointed this out when the car had the Ford-recommended 60,000 mile maintenance and check.

Insurance has said they cannot cover it and we have to talk to Ford. Ford says this is out of warranty. How do we come to know which part is going to cost us because it has run out of warranty, if nobody points out the problem during routine maintenance. We are still waiting to see how much it is going to cost. Meanwhile we have to rent a car and repair the car on our own. Can some one help us to handle this?

On the morning of October 6 2001, I was driving home from my work place at about 3:00 am. At the time I was employed as a bouncer/DJ at a local strip club in San Francisco. It was about 5 days before my 25th birthday, so before I got off work my friends decided to buy me a few drinks to celebrate. (I know ... it gets worse.) For some reason, after drinking I decided to get behind the wheel.
Hayward is about 25 miles south of S.F. After driving that, I have about half a mile of street driving until I'm home. I never made it. I woke in the ICU of a local hospital. My first realization once awake was that I could not see. I had little to no idea of what could have happened. My family throughout the next few days filled me in on what had transpired.
According to the CHP report it was cut and dried. Young male, intoxicated, strikes telephone pole at aprox. 35 mph, airbags deploy, end of story. Not quite. My left eye made a slow but full recovery. unfortunately my right eye wasn't so lucky.
Due to the trauma of the airbag I developed a subluxated crystalline lens, vitreous prolapse into the anterior chamber and a choroidal rupture. I underwent a vitrectomy and lensectomy with lazers. Despite surgery, my current vision in my right eye is 20/400 due to the choroidal rupture. I also had burns all over my face and a concusion. When I finally got past the surgery I decided to take a look at my vehicle.(96 Ford Explorer XL) I expected to see chaos. Instead I was alarmed to see the opposite.
There was virtually nothing that asstonishing about the damage. I inspected the section of bumper which supposidlly struck the telephone pole. There is a dent in my bumper about 2 inches in diameter. And about 1/2 inch deep. I am old enough by now drinking and driving is WRONG. I could have hurt someone really bad. Or worse. I accept full responsibility for my actions and since the accident tried to do the best to take care of all the legalities involved. I am no angel by any means but should one night of irresponsibility cost me a lifetime of vision?
My family does not have a lot of money and because of the drinking I have found it very difficult to find representation. Since the accident I have tried to move forward in life despite my injury. I have currently finished my first year at The Accademy of Art College with a B average. I am not looking for sympathy. I think these airbags (in low impact collisions) are very dangerous. It could have been a lot worse but it didn't have to happen at all. I thank GOD every day for my life and I am so thankful, but should these companies be allowed to keep produceing and installing these ticking time bombs?

They're required by federal law to do so. There are many who think we'd be better off if everyone learned to drive defensively and wore a decent seat belt. As for legal representation, since Jack was intoxicated and thus the major contributor to his accident, he will have a difficult time winning any substantial award in court.

I was driving our newly purchased (but used with 27k miles) 2001 E350 Ford 15 passenger van and slowing down to turn when the driver's side airbag deployed. I was not braking hard, nor was there ANY impact. The dealership at first said that the module was faulty but has since recanted and says that the Warranty department won't cover replacing the airbag because they found no problem. The passenger side bag did not deploy and I am told that unless there was a faulty sensor it would have deployed as well if there had been an impact. Even still they claim that no problem can be found.
I am so thankful that my injuries were very minor (small bruise and either chemical or heat burns on my left arm and upper abdomen. I am especially thankful since I was 33 weeks pregnant when the incident occurred. However, I am not prepared to let Ford get away with denying that the airbag (or sensors) had a problem. I was told that other than the dealership and customer service I had no recourse with Ford. They were unwilling to provide me with a contact within the company.
Had I been driving full speed I am sure the shock of the deployment would have caused me to wreck. Ford should be called to task and required to address the problems with their airbags. The customer service rep implied that there are many calls regarding 'claims' of faulty airbags deploying when they shouldn't have. I am not interested in a monetary settlement (except to cover cost of repairing the vehicle that is under warranty, and hospital costs for monitoring the baby) but I AM interested in protecting other people who might not be so blessed as we were to be spared injuries.

I am so thankful that no one was severely hurt. My children who were in the vehicle are now petrified that it might happen again. Other than a small bruise and some superficial burns on my arm and abdomen I was not hurt. The baby, so far as we can tell, was not injured either. The hospital monitored the baby's heart rate for about an hour but no extensive testing was done. I am now faced with the option of driving a vehicle without a horn while I battle this. I am not so sure I want the airbage replaced anyway since they are claiming that nothing is wrong. I am sure that the front passenger seat will now be permanently vacant until someone owns up to there being a problem and fixing it.

She was going the speed limit when she hit, but neither the driver's side nor the passenger's side airbag worked, and the safety shut-off for the fuel did not work either. The body shop said that we were luck the truck didn't blow up on the way home. All I wanted was to have the truck traded with a new one (it is less than a year old and is being leased through Ford Motor Credit). They tested the bags at the dealership and said they were fine. My daughter hit the windshield with her head and cracked the windshield in the accident. Luckily, she was wearing her seat-belt. There were 3 cars totaled in the accident, but Ford said that she was not driving fast enough or hit hard enough for the airbags to go off. They have been very difficult to work with and are refusing to talk to me about it at this point. My insurance company also provided me the names of other people that are insured with them that have had the same thing happen with the same type vehicle.

I am very upset that Ford and the dealership have not been willing to work with me on this. My daughter was injured, as well as at least 3 other people in other cars in the accident. We leased this vehicle this year so that my daughter would have a SAFE truck to pull her horses to rodeos in. I do not feel that the truck is safe and have now been told by the service department that they do not want me to bring the truck back to their dealership for the maintenance (I purchased a maintenance plan at almost $50 a month).

The brakes would vibrate when applied and the suspension would squeak hitting even the smallest bumps in the road. We took the truck to the dealer and they attempted to fix the problem, four times later and the warranty has ran out the problem is still not fixed. To make matters worse the courtsey light comes on and stays on when you hit the brakes and the door ajar light never goes off.

The truck was involved in a accident that messed up the front end pretty bad at about 25 to 30 miles an hour in a rear ender and the air bags did not release. Also during the accident and after the anti-lock brakes did not work and when told about it the dealer just told me that it is my imaganation that they did not work. And now finally at 62,000 miles the manual transmission goes out leaving us stranded with no work truck to pull our lawn maintenance trailer and a bill of more then $1000.00 to have it fixed.

The consequences of all these problems with out truck are that we have to keep spending money to have braked resurfaced and new brake rotors put on, the anti lock brakes did not work in an accident so the accident was possiblbly avoided if they had, the air bags could have prevented injury, and now I am without a truck and am going to have to spend a lot of money to have it fixed. Neither the driver side or passenger side airbags ever deployed. I have done some research on the deployment of airbags. I have found that an airbag should deploy even at speeds of only 15 miles an hour. For some reason they did not in this case. Evidently there was some kind of defect with the airbags in this vehicle.

I was told numerous times there was nothing seriously wrong with the transmission and that these "quirks" were typical of the Windstar transmission.
