2000 Taurus, well-maintained, very low mileage. Right rear coil spring broke. Had to absorb the repair cost myself just like everyone else, even though the rear springs are obviously just as defective as the front ones. This is the only car that I have ever owned on which a coil spring has broken. Safety issue or not, Ford should pay for replacement of broken rear springs just like they do for replacement of broken front springs.

On 9-28-07, my wife was about to take my 10 yr old son to school. As they were about to leave, they noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. My wife saw flames and quickly used a garden hose to try to put the fire out. My daughter called 911 and the Fire Dept responded within minutes. T
hey finished putting out the small fire before it got any worse. The responding fireman, informed my wife that 5 houses had been lost to fires started by a defective cruise control switch. They indicated that they had never seen this type of fire at an early stage, they normally see the vehicle at a total loss.
I called the local Ford dealership and spoke to the Service Adviser, he stated that they (Ford) have handled several incidents regarding engine fires on F150 trucks. He quickly stated that he would have a tow truck sent to my home to take the truck to their service center and would take care of it. I asked how long it would take to repair and he said it would depend on the mechanics findings.
I spoke a second time to this service adviser and he told me that the vehicle was at their shop and that they would take care of the vehicle. I asked how long it would take to get the truck fixed and he stated that if the parts were in stock, they could have it ready that day. My impression after getting off the phone was that they (Ford dealership) were going to repair the vehicle at no cost to us.
Later this same day, the Service Adviser calls and tells my wife that they (Ford) was not going to pay for the damages and if we wanted them to fix it, it would cost about $800.00. They mentioned that I had been sent 4 recall notices and that this repair could not be done because I had not responded to them. I informed them that all I ever received from them were offers to buy new Ford vehicles and promotional letters which I discarded. I then was told that I would be paying for the tow and the inspection of the vehicle. I then asked to speak to the Service Adviser's supervisor.
This person was the Asst Service Manager. It took him about 30 minutes to come out to see me. He basically started the conversation stating that he was aware of what had happened and that Ford (Corporate) had denied the repair because the incident was outside the recall window. I told him that I had asked the Service Adviser for a written policy and their basis for denying the repair and he stated that their documents were Proprietary information and could not provide me a copy of it. He did produce a copy of a recall letter that was sent to another customer and pointed out that repairs by Ford could be denied if the recall was not handled on a timely basis.
I then asked for written denial letter and they said they did not have any such letter available. The Service Manager would only state that I should turn it over to my insurance company. Since I felt we were not getting anywhere, I asked to speak to the next level supervisor. This Service Manager stated that there was no one else other then a Regional person whose full name he did not know. I asked for contact information and he stated that the only way to contact him was for me to call the 1-800 number (Ford Customer Service) and that an email would be sent to him.
He indicated that this person had the authority to authorize the dealership to fix the vehicle. I felt very exasperated and decided to conclude my conversation with him. I did make a point that the Service Adviser at no point in time, informed me that I would incur any type of cost and that the impression I got from each phone call was that they (Northside Ford), would be taking care of it. At this point, I am still in the process of contacting the General Manager and the Ford Customer 1-800 number. I will post any further details as we go.

I am in receipt of your letter of August 2007, informing me of a recall regarding the Speed Control Deactivation Switch which has evidently caused fires in cars that are running or not, and in cars where the cruise control is being used or not. In May 2007, I had a fire in my 1994 Ford Taurus SHO, VIN: 1FALP54P1RA212223 (05S28) arising from this defect in your system.
The car was parked at the time, and not running. Since I have not received a warning prior to August, I believe that it is your responsibility to correct any damage that was done to my car, regardless of the expense. I have already put over $800 into repairing it, but it still needs a replacement harness which I am told may cost me up to $4,000.
Although my insurance company, State Farm, is offering $2500 if I get a Salvage Title, I do not want to junk my car. With the exception of the wiring harness, the car is in running condition.
There is no way that I can replace this car for $2500. And, I love my SHO. You must realize that State Farm will want to get back anything that they pay into the car anyway.
Therefore, If you believe in customer loyalty and Customer satisfaction is one of the primary objectives of Ford Motor Company?, I am asking you to reconsider having the car repaired in one of your shops so that I do not have to deal with my insurance company and with changing my title to a salvage title. To quote your letter: Parts will be available in the 4th quarter of 2007, at which time Ford will notify you to return to your dealer to have the fused wiring harness installed and the SCDS reconnected on your vehicle.?
So, how is this different from what I am requesting you to do? If I am willing to live with any other damages (detailing the car) that occurred to the car because of the fire, why cant you repair the items that caused it? Had I received notice earlier, this could have been avoided. How many cars have to burn before you advise your customers that there is a concern with the electrical system that could cause this type of fire, even when the car is parked and not running? I have in the past few months had 3 major surgeries (spine and double hip replacements) and I cannot afford to put any more money into my car, especially because I believe that it is your responsibility to repair this.
All I ask is that you have one of your dealers replace the wiring harness and re-imburse me for the repairs that I have had to do on the car in the meantime. I can be reached at either of the numbers listed above. And, a prompt response would be very much appreciated. Sincerely, Christina C. Czerwinski

August 2007 I received a recall letter, Recall 05S28. It had to do with the Speed Control Deactivation Switch and how the SUV could catch on fire at any given time, so they said park away from structures ect. Last year in June 2006, we were going on a camping trip. The truck caught on fire, we had it towed, AAA, repaired, $3000.00 approx, I have receipts, my husband had to stay in a hotel overnight, and a car rental. Plus he had to drive at least 2 hours to go back and get the truck. I sent a general letter to Mr. Ligon letting him know about the cost of the situation and asked him to respond. I did not straight out ask for reimbursement. However, I have not received a response. Could somebody please assist me. Thank you, Virginia Chapman

I was living in Mobile, Alabama. Right after the hurricane, I was traveling down a road with a 90 degree turn and lost control of my new truck. I hit a power pole head on and had to go to the hospital. From the initial ER reports, I suffered cervical spine damage, left shoulder injury, and face and head trauma...Since my accident, I have been in a lot of pain and had to undergo surgery…I shouldn't have sustained those type of injuries with a properly functioning airbag and seatbelt. I also have pictures showing my airbag didn’t fully deploy and those were provided by my insurance company. Now, I cannot work and suffer a great deal of pain.

Nearly $300,000 in damage to our home and other vehicles. Had to live in a hotel while repairs were made, was forced into the secondary insurance market for 5 years, paying exhorbitent insurance premiums for homeowners' ins. Personally lost lots of $$ in uninsured and under insured items from home.

On August 28, 2007 my 2001 Ford F-150 SuperCrew pick-up truck started on fire after having sat in my driveway for five hours. The fire, though attended to quickly by our fire department, consumed the engine, engine compartment, firewall, front-end, etc. The truck was in my driveway and the fire also affected my home.
The Ford 2001 F-150 SuperCrew was a complete loss. There is approximately $5,000 damages to our house. My wife and I missed work time dealing with the clean-up and dealing with contractors. The fire will have to be disclosed to prospective buyers of our home and will lessen the future value of our home.

My children could had died that day. If I had been alone that afternoon they would have died trapped inside there car seat,as any parent can tell you how hard it is to have 1 let alone 3. My brother in law's 2007 Ford F150 caught fire in his drive-way and burnt to the ground. He just brought his brand new baby girl home 3 hours before. We were all sleeping in the house, when my sister woke to some sort of lights outside, as she went to the window she saw the Ford engulfed in 100 foot flames. My husband ran outside got the water hose to put the fire out. By the time the fire department got there, the truck was a pile of ash. If my sister would have never woke up, we could not even be here today because the truck would have caught the house on fire. They were never sent a recall in the mail or when they purchased the truck 6 months ago, nothing was ever talked about regarding this recall. Now they are out of a vehicle. My sister got the whole thing on video tape, we have already contacted a lawyer and are pursuing our case. I can't even imagine how a huge car company can sell death traps like this and get away with it.

My husband owned a 1999 ford F-150 truck. He came to work to have lunch with me. When he returned to the parking lot his truck was on fire under the hood. A passer-by had already called the fire department. It was deemed by our insurance that the fire was cause by the recalled speed control. The car was parked not running in a full parking lot. It was luck that no one was hurt and other cars were not damaged. The irony of this story is that we had had the recalled part replaced by our local for dealer. The fire was Aug 10, 2007 and we had the part replaced on Feb 2007. So my fear is that the new parts they are using to repalce the recalled parts are faulty also.
Our truck was a total loss. We collected from out insurance but it was not enough to cover the purchase of our new truck. The Ford dealership really did nothing to help us out either. Our truck was paid for and in excellent condition we were not planning to buy a new car for at least 2 years. This has caused us an unnecessary hardship not to mention the time I had to spend away from my job getting this taken care of. Insurance claims, rental car, searching for a new car, buying a new car, signing paperwork for insurance etc. I also filed a report with Ford and the sent me a letter stating that my insurance could file for return of their funds but offered not help to us in any form. A rebate on a new vehicle would have been acceptable. The letter stated that no further action from Ford would be expected at this time.

I am reporting a fire that started in my 2000 Lincoln Town Car (Signature Series). I have never seen this model on the recall lists, however, it had the same problem. We last drove it on the 30th of May 2004 and parked it in the garage at about 7:00 that evening.
The next day, at about 1045, my husband and I went into the garage, walked BY the car, and there was no smell, no smoke, nothing amiss. However, at about 1115, I heard a boom in the garage and went to look and it was full of thick black smoke with flames coming from the front area on the left, as well as the wheel well area on the left (drivers side)....
The fire destroyed everything in the garage and most everything in our home. Our home has to be gutted to the frame work, and start over again, replacing whatever frame work was not burned or damaged.....
FORD never came to our home to look at this car even though I called the dealership, Ford Credit and Ford Warranty.......The car HAS been looked at by various fire officials and three fire investigators, plus an electrical engineer..... Ford never did come to the house to look at the car, or the house. On the 28th of June, the insurance company finally had the car moved to a storage facility until Ford and the insurance company could settle.
I have yet to see any compensation from Ford. I have been told that I cannot sue Ford because no one was hurt and that the insurance company was sueing to get pennies back on the dollar for what they have paid so far. I was also told that all I could get from Ford was the deductible on the car and on the house, and perhaps some things not covered by insurance.
I have talked to a lady at Ford who does the claims and I did try to claim the down payment on my new used vehicle, but she said that I couldn't claim that, as the insurance paid off the car. Doesn't seem right, I had no plans on using that money in savings to put down on a new car because the one I had burned up my house! I think Ford should have just paid for a new car, just to make it right.

A $20 cruise control switch failed , causing a fire under the left side of the engine in front of the driver, Payton. This $20 part should have been recalled, Ford knew there was problems for years!!!, but yet, still let people drive around with it. Please beware if you drive a Ford Motor Company Car or Truck, check the recall list, a 20.00 part can kill you, via engine fires!!!!!!
Payton Tyler Lewis my son, was 22 years old , he died on the 9th of December . He was driving on hwy 376. Payton was driving a Lincoln Mark VIII, 1993 with less than 85000 miles on it. The car ( A ford Motor Company Product) produced cars and trucks with defective deactivation switches in the cruise controls. The car caught fire in the front of the car in the engine compartment on the left side, right, where Payton's vision would have been disrupted.
He tried to pull over on the left side of the road but, the brake lines had already burned thru ( no brake marks on the road). He tried to avoid a tree by pulling the car to the left, but the car slid into two trees, killing both Payton age 22 and his 21 year old girlfriend Sam.
The eye witnesses of the accident pulled there car around and called 911, and waited over 30 min. the(response time), before an officer arrived. The accident was approx. 5 miles from the fire station/Whitehouse Police Department. During this time the two Witnesses sat in there car, in shock, not believing what they had witnessed.
The Lincoln passed them with a fire coming out of the engine, then seem to be pulling over to the left side of the road, hitting the trees, then the car continued to slowly burn and with every pop of the tires the wait seemed endless and heart breaking, Being in shock and afraid to go close to the car to reddener aid they felt helpless. They did what they could do called 911 for help.

We had purchased a 2004 Ford Expedition XLT from Sheehy Ford of Richmond 3 years ago. On Monday, August 15, 2007, I got into my expedition to go to work, I proceeded to start the engine and backed out of the driveway. I began to smell an odor similar to that of an electrical fire. By the time I drove three houses down, smoke was coming out of the right passenger side of the dashboard.
I was able to put the truck in park and get out of the car quickly. This manage to prevent a full blown vehicle fire. We had the truck towed to the Sheehy dealership and was told that this was not a recall issue and then proceeded to inspect the truck. It turns out that the blower motor had gone bad (take note that they did not say that their product caught on fire)and needed to be replaced. The fire caused damages to other wires and the bill keeps accumulating. I was lucky that the fire did not start why I had my 2 children in the truck while driving at a higher speed. If that had been the case, the situation would have been very, very dangerous.
We did everything we were suppose to do to maintain the vehicle and it's a shame that Ford is producing products that are undependable and dangerous to consumers. Overall, the cost of the parts ended up being $205.00 and the cost of labor was $1000.00.
Does anyone see the problem here? It's unfortunate that Ford is profitting so much for defective parts they are installing in their vehicles at the expensive of their customers. I have learned from this mistake and guarantee that my husband and I, our children, and their children, along with our parents, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews will never be a supporter of Ford again. We value our loved ones too much to place them in unnecessary danger.

In 2004,on mid-tour leave I went to North Carolina to visit my wife and I also financed a two-toned 2001 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer edition while I was there. I chose the used car dealership had two trucks. The blue truck was just average and the two tone burgundy and beigh was fully loaded with leather seats. I was getting this vehicle cause my wife needed something to get back and forth to work, so I figure I would do something nice for her.Any way the dealer told me that the vehicle needed minor repair,so after I got an extended warranty on the vehicle and full coverage insurance from progressive I purchased the truck.Anyway I drove the truck around for about a total of 5 times.
I noticed while taking my wife to work the truck had caught on fire. At that point I contacted the police and they told me to call the fire dept. And then I contacted progressive my insurance company at the time. Because of the damaged of the fire. I never would have thought the truck caught on fire. So I told the police somebody probably set the car on fire. The only mystery of the whole incident was how did they set the fire from inside of the truck when it didn't appear that the locks on the door was damage.
This even baffled the police.I then set up a meeting with progressive my insurance company after they did their assessment of the Expedition. Progressive questioned me like I started the fire(I guess it was protocal) I felt I should have said I wanted a lawyer when they asked but I felt I didn't need one cause I didn't do anything wrong. Needless to say I went back to Iraq and while I was away they denied my claim.
When asked why they said insufficient evidence. So I was out of a truck because they eventually towed it away and I had to pay back the diffence of the vehicle after the finance company took it and sold it. One day me and my wife sat down and was watching TV and seen how one man's Expedition catch on fire and set his whole house on fire. And how a few truck the same year and model as our truck had been catching on fire. I called Ford about this numerous of time but they claimed our truck VIN number was not in the recalled phase.
So I never knew if they were telling the truth or not seeing all these recalls happening. I think someone should go to jail for ripping off the consumer like this. Unless Ford do something for people I will never buy a Ford again

The video surveillance cameras surrounding my friend's home captured smoke coming from under the hood of my truck on the driver's side near the windshield with molten white hot substances dropping on the ground under the truck near the left front wheel on the driver's side of the truck. It burst into flames and was destroyed as some substance combusted under the hood on that side of the truck engine compartment. Ford's response was not enough evidence was left to determine a cause of the fire? Their inspector came out and supported their claim. The video and pictures leave a reasonable person to believe that trucks do not spontaneously catch fire and that Ford's cruise control switch defect contributed to the cause of the fire which destroyed my truck.

This incident happened on Thursday, July 12, 2007. My husband was advised by the fire marshall who came by to call Ford and report the incident. We did just that. We received a lettr from Ford on Friday, July 20,3007 that was written on Monday, July 16, 2007 stating that Ford sent their apologies but that they were not responsible for the fire because they had sent 3 mailings out for the recall. First of all, we never received a recall notice from them.
Secondly, since Ford is well aware of the severity of the problem they should make every effort possible, regardless of cost, to ensure that everyone who has these dangerous vehicles on federal, state and local highways, should be notified of this recall. It is in their code of ethics to ensure that the customer is provided with the best quality vehicle leaving their hands. They are morally and ethically responsible for the retribution of our vehicle. We are hardworking individuals trying to make a living. My husband has been without a job for more than a year, but I have continued my obligation of paying Ford Credit on my vehicle.
They in unfortunately are turning the other cheek and not claiming responsibity stating that they made every effort to notify us of this recall. I honestly do not believe that. They could of contacted me by phone, sent a certified letter or had the local dealership call. When are payments are late, they go to extreme measures to get their money don't they. The consumer as always is the one who looses in situations such as these because of course we are not the big corporate bullies backed my billions of dollars. Well I am tired of corporate America always cashing in on hardworking Americans. I plead with all those out there who have had a loss like mine. Retrieved piece of spring for investigation. Had mechanic inspect for safety and learned that left rear coil spring is also broken. Currently have 77K miles on vehicle. Ford recall is for front coil springs if they break. Obviously rear coil springs have same defect but are not covered. Repairs, replacement of rear coil springs will cost me in neighborhood of $900. Ford should be held accountable for this common defect. It would be far less expensive for them to replace all defective coil springs than to pay lawyers and settlements for all the people that are being injured or killed in the affected vehicles. We have had this truck since day one and have never had any problems or been notified of any recalls affecting our make and model. We have always kept up with regular maintenence and the truck was in great running condition. After the fire we became immediately aware of the factory recalls that went out on this vehicle by all of the shared stories of bystanders and their similar experiences or those of loved ones. Ford Motor company does not accept any responsibility for these fires and the costs to replace the vehicles.
Out truck was totalled and now we are left without a vehicle. We worked hard to keep this vehicle in good shape and we payed it off last year prior to my husband retiring from the Air Force. Because it is not a daily driver we recently reduced our insurance from full coverage to liability and now we are completly out of luck and out of a vehicle. Our family had camping reservations made a year ago that we needed the truck for and now we will have to cancel that as well of course nonrefundable. The important thing to understand about this fire is that Ford had installed the fix / retrofit and it did not work due to ice and snow being under the hood. The fuse was intact after the fire it never even blew. The truck was a total loss, I removed the receiver portion of the hitch it was the only salvageable part of the truck, pretty sad for a $32,000.00 F150 Super Crew. I am a senior mechanical engineering major at Texas A&M University. Using my best deductive reasoning and engineering judgment I am confident in saying that I was a victim of a fire caused by a faulty cruise control switch. Many of Ford Motor Company’s vehicles have this switch and have been recalled because of the many fires that the switch has caused; however, my vehicle, a 2001 Explorer XL/Sport 4WD, VIN number is 1FMYU70E81UB34529, along with many other models was left off of the recall list despite containing this same faulty switch.
I arrived at work at 8:00 AM on May 31st, 2007. At approximately 8:30 AM a co-worker informed me that my SUV was on fire in the parking lot. I was unable to open the hood to extinguish the fire because the cable that releases the hood had melted. I was forced to sit and watch my car burn until the Dow fire department arrived and used an axe and other instruments to cut through the hood and extinguish the fire. Mr. Gordon Huntington at (979) 238-9404 was taking notes as they inspected the remains. He was in charge of the fire brigade. After the fire ended, I lifted the hood and assessed the damage. All non metal components are completely melted, the battery exploded, the electrical system is fried, the paint bubbled and peeled off many areas at the front end of the car, and the hood is destroyed. As far as the engine goes, I feel it will never be reliable again because it has been exposed to the sulfuric acid from the battery. It is common knowledge that acid changes the material properties of metals. If the engine is used again it is possible that it would develop stress fractures in areas not typical of model and eventually fail.
It is my understanding that the switch causes the fires in the following manner. The switch is installed to shut off the cruise control when the brake is applied. Therefore, the switch is mounted on the master cylinder and attached to the cruise control system on the other side. For reasons unknown to me, the wire connecting the two systems is “hot at all times, even when the car is off and the key is removed. Further, this wire runs underneath a reservoir of a flammable, corrosive liquid commonly known as break fluid. The switch is known to be faulty because inside the switch, a thin film barrier separates brake fluid from the switch's electrical components. The barrier is known to corrode over time, exposing the live wire to the flammable break fluid. The result is a fire that quickly spreads to all areas underneath the hood. Further, I have found that consumers, whose cars were on the recall list, could look for the following symptoms: Cruise control is not working properly; brake fluid is leaking around the switch; fuses are blown near the switch; or the fuse for the speed control cannot be opened.
The consumers could look for these symptoms to know if they were in immediate danger of a fire. I, however, was uninformed, because my model was left off of the recall list for an unknown reason, and therefore did not know that I was at high risk of a fire for more than 4 months. My cruise control stopped working last winter. However, I did not feel it was worth my time to get it fixed because I primarily use the vehicle for intra-city travel. Further, my brake fluid level was low on two separate occasions in the past 6 months. The levels were never significantly low and my brakes were completely re- worked in August of 2006, so I assumed this was just a gradual settling of the system. In hind site, it is obvious that the leaking brake fluid and a faulty cruise control switch were to blame for two seemingly minor car maintenance issues.
If Ford Motor Company had recalled my vehicle, I would have been notified of the potential danger, and would have used common sense to link the two as a potentially deadly hazard. After doing some research I have found that Ford Motor Company is aware of this problem, but did not recall all vehicles with the faulty $21.00 part for unknown reasons. If my car had ignited just hours earlier there is a strong possibility that 3 lives including my own could have been lost due to Ford’s negligence. My car was parked beneath the dry, wooden deck of a beach house. When ignited, the fire would have quickly engulfed the wooden house while my roommates and I were sleeping.
Further, I am currently employed as an intern at the Air Liquide hydrogen processing plant that is located on the Dow Chemical, Oyster Creek plant facility. The address is Dow Chemical, 1499, FM 523, Freeport, TX 77541. My vehicle was on fire within feet of highly pressurized hydrogen gas lines placing the safety of hundreds of employees at risk. One could argue that the vehicle is 6 years old and therefore it is not Ford’s responsibility because older cars are more subject to system failures. I find this absurd because many of the models on the recall list are far older. These consumers were all made aware of the danger that they were in. T
hese models include: Cars 1992-1993 Ford Crown Victoria 1992-1993 Lincoln Town Car 1992-1993 Mercury Grand Marquis SUVs 1994-1996 Ford Bronco 1997-2001 Ford Expedition 1998 Ford Explorer 1998 Mercury Mountaineer 1998-2001 Lincoln Navigator 2000-2001 Ford Excursion Pickup Trucks 1994-2001 Ford F-150 1994-2001 Ford F-250 1994-2001 Ford F-350 1994-2001 Ford F-450 1994-2001 Ford F-550 1994-2001 F-Super Duty 2001 F-Series Super Crew Vans 1994-1996 Ford Econoline 1996-2001 Ford E-450 In fact, most cars that were included on the recall list are far older than my 2001 Explorer XL/Sport 4WD. This renders the argument that Ford is not responsible for past warranty vehicles with potential hazards useless in a court of law.

I've also had to replace the right side sway bar on this vehicle. Not the best quality vehicle in my mind. This is a matter of personal safety and someone is going to get injured if these issues are not addressed in the form of a recall.
It's costly to replace these parts and the labor associated with them (since standard warranty is only 3 years). These type of issues should not exist on vehicles that are still relatively new. It was February 18, 2007 at around 1:20am. I had just picked up my girlfriend and two of her friends at a local bar on my way home from a sixteen hour shift at the paper mill I work at. The majority of the roads had been plowed and salted to melt what ice was left. I felt comfortable driving because my 2003 Ford Sport Trac was a 4x4. I know I shouldn't have, but I drank two beers about an hour prior to taking everyone back to the house (my BAC was way below the state limit). When I turned onto our road, I realized that it wasn't plowed or salted, it was too late. I heard my engine rev up and the truck started to go sideways. I did everything I was ever told to do when sliding on ice. I took my foot away from the gas and brake pedal, and did the best I could by just steering, but we were going downhill and I was only getting faster. Then I realized we were heading for an embankment. I hit the brakes hoping for a miracle.
We hit the embankment which jarred my foot off the brake and onto the gas pedal. The next thing I remember, I was being told that Life Flight was in route to take me to Columbus. I couldn't feel my right leg, nor could I see anything. I could hear my girlfriend crying, and I felt warm sticky liquid on my arm. My girlfriend told me she was bleeding really bad. Me and my girlfriend were in the front seats with our seatbelts on when we left the bar. She said she had taken hers off to get something from her purse a second before we wrecked. I was told at the hospital that we struck a tree going on or about 40-45 mph. We struck it with the left front of my truck (between the headlight and the radiator), and our airbags never went off. The truck was deemed a total loss.
My girlfriend ended up hitting the gear shifter on my steering column with her face, which caused a broken nose, a crushed orbital bone. It took two surgeries and a metal plate to repair it. She also had an eight inch laceration below her right eye, that is now a very noticeable scar, a concussion and a very bruised body. She was out of work for four weeks recovering. I had my seatbelt on and ended up spending 2 weeks in the hospital with two herniated discs, one bulging disc, a pinched nerve, minor nerve damage in my right leg, a concussion, a swollen and very bruised body and blurred vision for a week. I ended up missing four months of work doing physical therapy. All the doctors and therapist who have treated me or my girlfriend have said that if the airbags went off, our injuries would have been minor and that most of our injuries would have never even happened. And to think that the main reason I bought the truck was because it had driver/passenger airbags. Thank God we didn't end up any worse...No thanks to the airbags.

We continued to back out and when we were in the street I noticed a lot of smoke coming up through the hood of the vechicle. I immediately pulled back up into the driveway told my daugher to get out, jumped out of the drivers side. By the time I got around to the front of the car, smoke was bellowing out from beneath the vechicle.
I ran into the house and got my husband and son who ran outsie. My husband told my son to jump in and pop the hood while he grabbed the water hose. The smoke was so thick he could not see and started putting water where it appeared to be coming from which was on the driver side up towards the front windshield.
After getting out the fire, he did not see flames, but smoke was thick and he did not look underneath, we were just worried about it catching whole vechile on fire and even the house, he could see where the box, I guess where the braking system is was burned and melted. This was Labor Day evening and my son said he would come over on 5/29 and take up to Gwartney Ford in Edmond along with the recall letter. The vechicle now would not start. It caused some kind of damage to the battery.
My husband Jeff called Gwartney Ford in Edmond and told them of the situation and they, I think her name is Lisa, said we would have to tow it up there. My husband adivsed her he did not feel we should have to pay to have vechile towed since it was a Ford problem. He had also called Ford at the 1-800# and they did not bother to even call back and also acted like it was our issue to get car to Ford dealer. After getting home from work on 5/29 my husband jumped the vechile to see if he could get it started which it did and drove it immediately to Gwartney.
I followed him up there and it was starting to smoke again when he pulled in. They, Service Dept./Lisa I think called my husband on his c-ph and asked if Ford had given us a case # and advised they would not be able to do anything without a case number which Ford did not give us along with failing to even call back. My husband said he would call Ford back and get a case #. Second time he called Ford, he talked to a woman named Jen and she said the first person who took the call did not even report it as a fire.
She started asking questions like was it gray smoke, black smoke, did you see flames etc. My husband advised her he did not remember the color of the smoke, just it was a lot and he thought the whole vechicle was going to burn up and just started shooting water on it. He asked about a rental car while it was being fixed and to make a very long story short, they gave us nothing but the run-around, they could not give us a case #, they would have to contact you and we would get something in the mail to feel out in 7-10 days.
They told us to contact our insurance company for a rental. We contacted our insurance co. and they said we did not have rental insurance. Why are we having to get a rental car, this is their issue. Seven to ten days, what are we suppose to do walk! They will have to send investigators like we are lying. All you have to do is look at see the melted box area.
Can their dealships not tell which by the way they confirmed it appeared that was exactly the issue? They were no help and this could be weeks if not months to get our car fixed. Gwartney pulled the car out back, they did not want in their garage per them, it can still catch on fire when it is not running. I am upset and want this resolved immediatley. I could go on but you can get the frustration I am having.

am upset and want this resolved immediatley. I could go on but you can get the frustration I am having. Regards, Kara Sherwood. PS: I do not trust driving this vechicle even if they do fix it! With the NON-service we received from Ford, I can do not trust their repairs at all! How long our we going to be inconveniced with Ford's issue???

On 05/28/07, I arrived home from work at 8pm. After dinner with my family and some television, I went to bed. My dog began to bark and growl around 1:30am which woke up my partner. She yelled at the dog to be quiet when we heard an extremely loud explosion from the yard. My partner's initial thought was that a transformer had blown. She got out of bed and went to the window where she saw my 2001 Ford F-150 on fire. We both ran through the house and onto the front porch where we called 911 and could only stand and watch the truck burn from the front to the rear in less than 15 minutes.
The fire department stated that the fire appears to have started from the engine compartment. I phoned my father the next morning to tell him what had happened and at that time, he informed me of the recall on the Ford vehicles related to the speed control. I began to make phone calls and was actually on the phone for over 40 minutews with the Ford Customer Relations Department. At the end of the call, I was asked, What do you expect Ford to do for you?. I explained that my main reason for the call was to receive some piece of mind because my initial thoughts about the fire was that it had been intentionally set by someone. At that point the conversation ended with me being told that the Consumer Affairs Group would be in contact with me over the next 7 to 10 days.

I parked the car about 8:50 a.m. By 9:34 a.m. people were running into the gym to find me and let me know that the hood of my car was on fire.
None of us could believe what we saw! Here were flames well over 12 feet in the air, so ingulfing our vehicle that nothng in the front of the car was left - burned to a crisp. In less than 10 minutes! It was gone. The fire inspector took one look and thought it to be a mechanical or engine fire. Someone else in the gym asked me to google engine fires Ford...This is the first we had heard about this.

My son's 2002 Ford F-150 caught fire & burnt up in my driveway on May 5th,2007. The fire dept. was called to put out the fire & said it looks as though the fire started around the master cylinder. The fire dept. investigator states the origin of the fire to be similar as the fireman.
Since the fire, I've been told about a recall on this vehicle due to fires linked to the cruise control switch mounted on the master cylinder. I purchased this vehicle from a used car lot 6 months ago & was NEVER told about this recall by Ford or the seller.
I found out after the fire.It totalled the truck, did extensive damage to my driveway (driveway was stained, scored,&sealed about a year ago for thousands of dollars),plus lost many added features in truck(Stereo, amp, speakers, alarm system, new tires, shocks, ect). The conversation I've had with Ford (Steve),seems to be stringing me along, downplaying their responsibility,if any, & it's very frustrating.
After sending them many pictures taken immediately after the fire(they look identical to previous fires started the same way), a picture of leaking brake fluid on my driveway just prior to fire, the same 5A fuse blowing a number of times(causing inability to shift gearshift),they will send out their invetigator to look at vehicle. I should be contacted by him within a week.
When I first reported this to Ford, I was told to file it with my car insurance(I have liability only), then told to file under home owners insurance($3200 deductible). I said it was your responsibility, not theirs.

On May 14, 2007, at approximately 2200 hours, our 1997 Ford Expedition caught fire while in the driveway after sitting for approximately seven hours. We were enjoying a quiet evening at home with our three children peacefully asleep, when my husband heard the horn of our Expedition going off. Thinking that there was someone outside messing around, he went outside to check it out.
My daughter, 9-years-old, came running into my room to tell me there was a problem. I walked into the hallway and saw a orange glow illuminating from the front window. I ran to the window and discovered that my Expedition was engulfed in flames under the hood. I screamed at my husband and ran outside to find him with a hose on the flames of the car. We were scared to death as the fire was within inches of reaching our home, specifically our three childrens' bedrooms. We were completely devastated by the fact that we would be paying off our vehicle next month and here it was no longer any good.
I was crying one minute and laughing the next. My daughter was terrified to be alone after the incident. She finally went to sleep in my bed after hours of tossing and turning. We all were tormented by the events of the evening. Thankfully we had our neighbors there to help. My husband walked away with minor burns and cuts as a result of doing whatever it took to keep from having the house and boat catch on fire. We could have lost everything last night. Thankfully, our only loss is the vehicle. It can be replaced and so can a house, but we could have possibly lost a child and they can not be replaced. I
was completely shocked when I started reading all of the stories of others. We were considering buying another Ford, BUT I can tell you I have changed my mind. I will NEVER buy another Ford again. This is shocking to hear that so many people have suffered and Ford is not taking responsibility. They make tons of money and don't seem to back their product.
What is wrong with them??????
Our Expedition is a complete loss. We now have to file a claim with our insurance. We are impatiently waiting to see what is going to be done. Our Expedition was ten years old and had 156,000 miles. We are anticipating not getting much for the vehicle. We must also pay our deductible and the little bit we have left on our loan.
The loan would have been paid off next month. We were one month from owning a vehicle we have worked very hard to pay off. We are not sure how we are going to replace this vehicle without having to sell other possessions to be able to afford a vehicle that will replace our Expedition.
We both work very hard for what we make and now feel like we have to start all over again. It is such a shame to go through this and see that many others are experiencing the same. I am ashamed to have backed Ford as I have for so many years. Chrysler, Toyota, Dodge, and even Chevy are looking really good these days.

I just wanted to add my experience with the Ford F-Series fires. On 5/11/07, I parked my 2001 F250 around 11:30 p.m. No prior troubles with this vehicle, and had just turned 105K miles. I brought my dogs inside for the night at almost exactly 1:00 a.m., which requires me to stand outside within six feet of my truck for a few minutes. No smell of any kind of smoke at that time was present that would have indicated a smoldering fire (I have worked as firefighter for twenty years and would have recognized even the faintest odor).
Around 1:30 a.m., a loud boom awakened me from my sleep. I ran outside to find my truck showing flame from the driver's side of the engine compartment. I know the first explosion I heard was NOT the driver's side tire exploding from the fire because I was outside on the phone with 911 when the tire blew. Within the six minutes before the arrival of the fire department, the entire engine compartment and most of the cab was engulfed. I am extremely thankful that my house, only six feet away, did not become involved, and it was only by divine intervention that I wasn't parked inside the carport that night.

On December 13, 2006 I was driving my 1997 Ford Explorer on the highway going approximately 60mph when smoke started to fill the car from under the dashboard. I pulled over as quickly as possible and was met by a Virginia DOT truck that just happened to be there and the gentleman quickly put the fire out. The car would have been a total loss had I had to wait for the fire department. The fire appears to have originated in the cruise control switch and burned throught the master cylinder and wiring harness.
After having the Explorer towed to a CHEVY dealer where my son is a service writer, he examined it and said the fire appeared to have started in the cruise control switch and burned through the wiring harness and master cylinder. He also said that the car had no brakes because of the fire and had I not been able to reach the breakdown lane when I did I would not have been able to stop.
It only took the VDOT worker seconds from the time I pulled over until he had the fire out. The car has not been fixed yet. After contacting the Ford dealer we bought the car from, they said it wasn't their problem and referred us to Ford Motor Corp who said the same in a form letter. The most recent recall in March 2007 still did not include the 1997 Explorer but did include the 1997 Mercury Mountaineer.
I have instructed my son to give me a complete written estimate of the damages. I had dropped the full coverage on the car because I had planned to sell it because I had just bought a new car.
I never considered spontaneous fire to be normal wear and tear. I have taken very good care of this car and bought it new in 1997. The cruise control stopped working a few years ago but I didn't use it very often and didn't see the point in spending the money to have it fixed. Prior to the fire the latest quirk was the temperature and compass display above the mirror stopped working from a blown fuse.
I don't know if that's related. Until this happened to me I had no idea that this was such an extensive problem.

My husband was able to put the truck into neutral (while it was on fire and he was still spraying it down) and we rolled it out of the garage by pushing on the back seat of the vehicle. My husband was able to put out the flames before the fire dept. arrived. My son's beautiful truck is ruined. The garage was covered in soot although there was no other damage to our home. My husband contacted Ford and they say they stopped paying on these types of situations and we should go through our insurance company. Because of the age of the truck and the mileage (80,000), with our deductible, we'll end up with very little money and not be able to replace this vehicle. My son is heartbroken. The result was the complete destruction of the Ford as well as our adjacent 2001 Cheverolet Tahoe.
The loss of two vehicles worth in excess of 50,000 dollars due to a potential manufacturer error seems to me to be both a bit irresponsible and negligent. We were the third owners and never heard anything about the potential damages therein. With a family of a wife, two infant boys and two Siberian Huskies and a cat, the damages could have been irrepairable.
To understate the degree of frustration our family feels as it relates to the loss of two vehicles at one time, we are appauled. Ford Motor Company, if ever, needs to step up to the challenge of reimbursing and amending this problem not just for us, but for the entire consumer market that has and ignorantly may purchase a Ford. As others have found, Ford will only cover the cost of replacing front coils that break, not rear coils. Obviously, the defect in the coil exists reagardless of whether it is placed in the front or rear of a vehicle, but Ford is only forced to recall the coils that break in the front. It is clear that the principle of doing what is right, replacing all the defective coils, takes a back seat to cost in this case. This will be the last Ford product I purchase.

When my wife and I ran out side, we saw our truck and front of our home totally engulfed in flames. We called 9-1-1. Fire rescue came out and put the fire out and started an investigation.
The report from the fire inspector stated that it was an electrical fire. Not only did this cost us $2000.00 in deductables, but we only got $9000.00 for a truck that was worth $12,000.00 and then we were charged for it.
The insurance company would not allow us to change insurance companys because of the claim and also increased our rates in order to pay back the money that they did give us!
Not only was the driveway and the front of the house damaged but so was the carpet in the house and the walls were smoke damaged. We were treated like criminals, and even asked by the insurance agent if WE started the fire on purpose!
I was totally appauled by such accusations. We kept the truck in showroom condition. I have never gotten any kind of letter from Ford acknowledging the problem or letting us know of any recalls.

I knew that the 2001 Sables had a recall on the coil springs.
Although my Sable is a 2002, I felt that this should be considered part of this recall as the parts are defective. I only have 17,000 miles on my car, so we know it wasn't from wear and tear. They were going to fix it under good faith and charge me 20% plus the new tire. I called the Ford toll free number to ask them and didn't get a whole lot of satisfaction.
I didn't feel comfortable unless the other front coil spring was replaced so we settled on both front coil springs to be replaced and the tire. The cost, so they said, would have been around $445.00 but my complaints got me a bill around $151.00. I still worry about the rear coil springs after reading all of these other letters. There should definitely be a recall and action on these coil springs beyond 2001 models.

My husband and I were involved in an accident on 02/28/07 with our 2004 Ford Expedition-Eddie Bauer Edition. The accident involved an unlicensed driver who could not see what was on the other side of her so she gunned into traffic into our path. We hit her head on 45-50 miles an hour with zero time to respond. Our vehicle was a total loss and the air bag did not deploy on the passenger side causing injury to myself. I sustained bruising to my sternum, cut my right and left leg and knee. I continue to have clicking on my left knee and pain to my upper back.
We have complained about this to Ford at the recommendation of the Florida Highway patrol as the passenger airbag did not deploy. Our vehicle was totaled. The front end was severely damaged and the frame and universals were twisted. We complained to Ford, and they have come up with a ridiculous request to provide them with photos of the inside and outside of our vehicle, and even the maintenance records. We have referred them to our insurance company as it was investigated by them, and they have all the photos of the vehicle. This is not acceptable to them. We have consulted with legal counsel, who will not step up to Ford as they would need to dismantle the vehicle to see why the airbag did not deploy. The vehicle is now salvaged as it was totaled.
We were in no physical condition to pursue legal counsel when this accident occurred. We feel the Police Report should be evidence that the airbag did not deploy and the diagram is evidence that our vehicle’s front end was totaled. My husband’s (driver) airbag did deploy, and he received injury to a pre-existing back condition. He also received burns to both arms as his hands were on the steering wheel, as they should be when the impact happened. My complaint is we pay for safety features when we purchase vehicles, and it appears they do malfunction. These companies do not want to step up to the plate.
I do know of people who solely rely on their air bags to prevent injuries, who probably would have been killed as a result. We rely on our seat belts as well as the airbags. If it would not have been for my seat belt, I probably would not be filing this complaint. I am terrified even today to ride as a passenger in the car, and I am a menace to my husband as I feel like someone is going to pull out into traffic and my airbag will not protect me. This makes him uncomfortable with me riding as a passenger.
The front end of the vehicle is totaled as we hit the vehicle that pulled out into traffic head on with a force of 45 to 50 miles an hour. The air bag on the passenger side of the vehicle failed to deploy. This may have or may not have caused injury as a seat belt was worn. Perhaps, if the air bag opened, there would have been less injury from being restrained solely by the seatbelt. I continue to have pain on my left knee and upper back. In the State of Maine, vehicles are inspected annually and our mechanic does perform a system check with inspections.

On Friday, April 6, 2007, at around 0850 p.m., my 18 year old daughter had gotten into our 1994 Ford Explorer, cranked it up, turned on the heater, backed up in the driveway, and called my wife complaining about smoke coming out of the air conditioning vents.
My wife handed me the phone just as we had sat down in a restaurant to eat dinner. We live in Parrish, Florida and were camping in Tampa, Florida, about 45 miles away. As I went outside of the restaurant to talk with my daughter, she said just as stated above about the smoke, and I told her to shut the engine off and wait a little bit and crank it back up and turn the air conditioning on and let it blow the smoke out of the a/c vents.
I thought it might of been dust on the heater coils that were burning off. When she did this, she said something was glowing from under the right front of the car. She got out of the car while it was starting to catch fire, with me 45 miles away from home, her all alone, with the car catching of fire in our driveway.
She was histerical, and I tried calming her down, and she tried to put the fire out with the water hose, but one of my neighbors a couple of houses down, came running over to help, and she hung up with me and called the fire department, who came and put out the fire.
The 1994 Ford Explorer was a total loss, with damage to my driveway, and Ford told me in a letter when I contacted them by phone on April 9, 2007, that there was nothing that they could do beyond the warranty period.
This is not Quality Job-One. Ford should have stepped up to the plate and said, yes, we will send someone to investigate this instead of sweeping it under the rug. I have photos of the damage if needed.

I bought a 2006 F-250 in April of 2006. I also am a part of the growing number of people who had nothing but trouble since I bought it. I have always loved ford trucks and always put my money on a Ford. I began with problems only 4 months after I bought it.
I got my first set of new fuel injectors put in August of 2006. In October 2006 in the middle of the night the neighbors were pounding on my door telling me that my horn was blowing and my truck was smoking. I ran outside and disconnected the battery cables. I had to push the truck away from the house for fear that it would catch on fire. In December 2006 I was out of town in my truck.
At the hotel in the middle of the night the horn awoke me again. The truck was smoking and the horn going off one more time. I had to call Fords roadside assistance. Then April the 5th 2007 I was driving down the road and noticed smoke coming from under the dash. I had to pull off the road because in minutes the smoke was getting worse and worse.
I started to feel like it was going to imerse into a fire, so i started throwing all of the valuables into the field, unable to get hardly anything out due to the quickness of the blaze. Within minutes it was into a full blaze. The truck burned to a crisp it was a Total Burn. The fire was so hot that it even melted the front tires. I am so thankful that my three small babies were not with me on this day.
I am now in limbo between Ford and the insurance company. I will definitely get in on the class action law suit. Ford should be fully responsible for all that we have lost and the time involved. As for now I don't even have a car to drive and I am still making payments on the truck that I don't even drive until this is all settled.

Black smoke was pouring out of the slightly opened windows when I approaced the SUV. We ultimately put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. Closer examination indicated that the source of the fire came from under the drivers side seat. One of the firemen on the scene speculated that the motor that controls the power seat overheated and started the fire.
I left the SUV in the parking lot overnight and my first call the next morning was to Ford Motor company. Their response was that they would send me a letter in the mail. This letter came a week later and explained that although they would really like to assist me with my loss , there was not a recall on my Vehicle, so they would not be able to assist me.
My insurance company took care of me and hopefully they will also take care of Ford to recoup their loss . I am fortunate that a young child or one of our family pets were not in the car. Also lucky the vehicle did not burn while sitting in my garage. I am putting this out to the public so that anyone else who has the same experience will also speak out and that maybe one day Ford will investigate this instead of overlooking it.

My cold 2000 F250 Super Duty 4dr self ignited in my driveway. Thank goodness I had a hose nearby and noticed the smoke coming out of the driverside wheelwell while walking my dog. If I hadn't my house would have gone up in flames.
My local Ford dealer said right off the bat that it looked like a fire originating at the cruise control and gave me an estimate of aprox. $5,000 that they filed with Ford, and told me it looked open and shut and not to worry, they would take care of the formalities with Ford and get back with me and hopefully have my truck back to me in about three weeks. Ford asked for an inspection by a local regional, who took pictures and filed a report to their home office proved to be the begining of my happy ending.
I filed a complaint with Ford's Detroit office about the same time, who inturn spoke with the regional office, who spoke with the regional office and manager again after I filed a complaint with Detoit when it was turned down the first time. Oddly enough when I spoke with the complaint line in Detoit while filing for a review of the decision after being told I was turned down for repairs by my Ford dealer,(who was quite surprised), the lady with whom I spoke with in Detroit was very nice and quite sympathetic, and was kind enough to read back to me the initial report from the field.
I only wish I had recorded my conversation. They admitted the guilt, but questioned whether it was worth fixing. Following my review of Ford's decision not to fix my vehicle, the story changed to the argument that the cause of the fire was indeterminable due to the extensive damage. There was no mention of guilt. My advise from Ford's complaint desk was to turn it into my insurance co.
I was told by the Ford employee that I would most likely be paid for my loss, and you know that Ford and most other car makers, own atleast part of all the major insurance companies, and they would work out some sort of payback as far as Ford was concerned for my damages, but atleast I would be compensated. I told her that I didn't want to involve my insurance co. as it may increase my rates and ratings, and she agreed, but said there was nothing Ford was going to do for me or my truck.
Through all this, I just kept repeating to everyone...all I want is my truck fixed...all I want is my truck back... To this day that is all I ever wanted. The insurance co. totaled the truck and after seven months I may have a chance to to out and get a three or four thousand dollar truck to replace my dependable, beautiful F250...you know the one I bought new...the truck I paid over thirty thousand for...the one I took such good care of...the one I used everyday to earn a living...eeeek

My 2001 Ford Escape had been parked for 2 days (Friday evening through Sunday afternoon) when in the late afternoon hours my alarm started going off. The vehicle was not locked, so the factory alarm should not have gone off at all.
Upon exiting my house, I could see that the alarm in question was in fact for my vehicle and then I saw smoke rolling out of the engine compartment. The car had not moved in 2 days and my brother came to the truck with me. We popped the hood and smoke was everywhere, but primarily coming from underneath the brake reservoir. You could tell by the smell that it was an electrical issue as the wires were melting and burning.
We grabbed a water hose to douse any fire that may have ignited in the area and my brother proceeded to disconnect the battery cables as there was still smoke and we wanted anything that was hot off. I immediately called Mike Davidson Ford, but as it was Sunday I was informed by the receptionist that the Service Dept was closed and that I would have to call back. I live in a somewhat rural area and was afraid that the inexplicable fire would restart in the night and catch the house on fire.
I explained this to her and she said the only thing I could do was call back on Monday. I explained what happened and that I was in a state of panic and she finally put me through to a sales manager. His first question was Is it under warranty and I told him no, it was a 2001. He said he didn't know what to do either and that I would have to contact a Service Manager. I asked him to have a Service Manager call me to explain why my SUV would spontaneously combust after not being driven for 2 days. He had no comment except that He would pass the message on.
On Monday and Tuesday I called several time from work to try to get in touch with someone that could explain something to me about the situation, but I was put (and kept) on hold several times with no answers and I was also hung up on several times. I put the task in my boyfriend's hands as he was home for the week and could better call since I was at work (I work for a Department of Labor contractor). He had the same problems - he was hung up on several times. Finally he called back and started yelling and demanded to talk to a manager.
They finally put someone on the phone that stated that they had never heard of the problem before but that several things could have caused it. They know the vehicle isn't under warranty and said that we could take it to the dealership for them to look at. When asked how to get it to the dealership, they said to have it towed.
No one offered any help or understanding that I now had no vehicle to get me from work to back. Since then, my brother has contacted a friend who works for Ford and he stated that there had been problems with fires caused due to a brake module that was getting corroded and water would get into it and cause vehicle fires. Since then, I have checked the vehicle recalls every day and nothing has been recalled for my vehicle.

The damage is possibly due to a Recall which was initated by Ford for the Speed Control Switch, the point at which the fire started. The vehicle is currently at a local Ford Dealership and is being looked over by the dealer for cost and repair estimates. I was given a Ford Focus by the local Ford Dealer as a replacement vehicle. I have three kids and a wife. This is currenly our only vehicle... My wife and kids are scared to death to even get into the Expedition.
The cost of the damage is more than likely not going to be enough for the insurance company to consider totaling the vehicle. Would I be asking too much for assistance in totaling it, so we can no longer deal with this vehicle?

I was moving our 2002 Ford Taurus when a I heard a loud grinding noise. I thought it might have been the brakes. I took the car to the dealership the same day. March 17th 2007. I was told that a rear spring had broke and damaged the left rear tire. I had never heard of a recall and I thought a bad pothole might be to blame. I found out on the internet that this has been a problem with Ford/Mercury cars for quite some time. I was upset that I was not informed of this problem. I am scared to think what might have happened if the spring had blown the tire with my wife and daughter in the car. Ford is clearly at fault for not extending the warrenty.

I have just lost my Ford 2001 F-150 truck to a fire. I parked the vehicle in our drive, normally I would have parked in the garage. I was awakened about 6 hours later with explosions from the truck being on fire. I had received 2 recalls and went to local Ford dealer was told they did not have the part to replace the faulty part but that mine was not one of the ones being recalled.
This related to the cruise control. The second time I was told the same thing about no parts and they disconnected the cruise but before I left the Service manager said again that mine was not one of the ones being recalled and to plug it back up. I have contacted Ford and they say they have no responsibility
My truck is a total loss, it completely burned. In fact the fire was so hot that it melted the inside of the front rims.My recourse not is an attorney and hopefully a class action suit against Ford

My girlfriend’s daughter was using my 2003 F150 SuperCrew Lariat. She was driving approx. 25 miles an hour in a neighborhood when a dog ran out. She attempted to hit the brake but her foot slipped and she hit the accelerator. She accelerated through the curve, went over a curb (that blew out the tire). She then impacted a tree going 35-45mph. The truck hit so hard the whole truck was lifted up, and the rear of the truck was moved to the left approx. 3 ft.
The truck was sandwiched between two trees and had to be winched out sideways so they could hook up the tow truck. Neither of the air bags deployed. The truck frame was buckled in three places. The bed was shifted 4-5 inches back and to the left. There was inner-structural damage to the firewall on the passenger side. How big a tree do you have to hit before the bags deploy?? What is the sensor rating on these trucks and where are they located?
The driver was taken to the hospital. She hit her face on the steering wheel causing severe bruising. She underwent a CAT scan and luckily nothing was found wrong at this point. Her back bothers her as well as her hip. She did have stitches on her upper lip. The truck was a total loss. The passenger just had bumps and bruises. Thank God they were wearing their seat belts.

I have had 3 of the 4 coil springs break on my 2001 Mercury Sable. It has less than 90,000 miles on it. Ford replaced the front two springs in a recall after one of them broke. one rear spring has been broken for a while, with no apparent extra damage. The other one broke yesterday, sitting in my driveway, and when I moved the car, it damaged the tire.
I've heard estimates of over a thousand dollars to get this fixed, and it's clearly a manufacturing defect.I called the dealer and got no help. I've heard ford blames corrosion for the problem.
That's a red herring, as millions of other cars, like it's predecessor, have never had these problems. I had a 95 taurus with 190,000 miles on it, and no problems. When they redesigned those springs, the blew it, and they should have to pay for the replacement and any damage. Is there a class action suit I can join for redress of my problem?

My daughter was driving my 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck. For whatever the reason, she has no memory due to the severity of the accident. The truck went out of control and hit the center wall on the freeway. The airbags deployed after almost head on collision with the center wall on the freeway. She was found by other commuters on the freeway and was seatbelted completely in and properly. The seatbelt did not tighten or hold her. She hit the center dashboard, impacted the dashboard and broke it with the left side of her face. How we know this for fact? The dashboard has her make up on it that she was wearing. The airbags deployed after the initial impact. This is noted by the pictures we have and the CHP telling us that she did not hit the airbags. From their opinion, the airbags deployed after the fact. By the small amounts of blood on them and the amount of blood on the seat, we can tell this. We have photos of the vehicle that can document this.

Below is a list of all of the major maintanance problems I have had with my vehicle. It is now in a Ford dealership and they have confirmed that the torque converter and solenoid pack have both malfunctioned. 20 July 2004: Picked up the NEW vehicle with only 3 miles on it. On 21 July, the service engine soon light came on and stayed on. A sensor was replaced on 22 July and I was told that the problem was fixed. 31 Dec 04: The ABS light came on and stayed on. I told the service advisor that when stopping, the brakes scrapped and made clicking sounds. I was told that again, it was a senor problem and the speed sensor was replaced. To date, the light does not come on, but I still have the same problem every once in a while. 31 Jan 05: There were vibrations in the front end once I went over 70mph. I was told that I needed to rotate and balance my tires and I did. The vibrations did not stop. The vehicle was also slamming into reverse and would rev up when first started up. I was told that there might be a transmission recall, so I took it back to a Ford dealer and I was told that I needed a transmission additive, but none was in stock. I went back on the 8th of Feb 05 and it was added. 15 Feb 05: The truck was still jumping and slamming into reverse and revving up. I told them that the additive did not fix the problem and the quick fixes are only making the problem worse. I was then told that the solenoid pack was at fault and needed to be replaced. It was replaced and they said that they reprogrammed the PCM. I have taken my truck in at least 4 times for the transmission since 15 Feb 05. Every time, a transmission flush is recommended and done as a quick fix. I don't have the exact dates of those visits because the paper work is in my truck that is back in the shop. 16 Feb 07: OD off light starts flashing. The truck was still slamming into reverse every know and then. 19 Feb it was taken to a Ford dealer and the transmission was flushed along with a oil change. I was also told that now the torque converter was going bad. 22 Feb 07: They confirmed that the torque converter was bad and needed to be replaced. None was in stock, so I would have to bring the truck back. 27 Feb 07: The torque converter was replace, but the vehicle had to be left at the shop because now the solenoid pack would not allow it to shift.
If I would have not had the extended warranty, I would have been stuck with a broken truck that I would not be able to afford to get fixed since all of the current problems cost over $2000. From the very first recall on the Explorer transmission in 2005, I contacted The Ford Motor company, the seller of my vehicle and the lot where I picked it up and told all of you that there was something major wrong with this vehicle. I was continuously stung along until now since the vehicle isn't drivable. Above is only the transmission problems. I have had all 4 motors in the power windows replace, the rear speakers in the doors have shorts in them, the tire pressure gauge was malfunctioning and I have also had all 4 tires replaced.

Our 2002 Ford Taurus was parked in our driveway. I went to go get an oil change and as I started to back out of the drive, I felt some resistance. I figured it was a small mound of snow, so I gave a little more gas.
I heard a pop, followed by a strange hiss; and now more resistance. I got out and saw the front driver tire was flat. I went to get the spare and found it encased in a half inch block of ice (water must have seeped into the tire-well and frozen) Being Saturday and only 29 degrees, I brought the ice encased spare inside to thaw out overnight. Following day, I jacked the car up and was unable to remove the flat...that's when i discovered the spring had broke and slit the tire. I had never heard of springs breaking before. I had a 15 year old GM and while the springs were a bit 'soft' they sure didn't break.
Ford Roadside Assistance came and towed the car to the dealer. I was confident that the extended warranty we purchased would take care of this problem. I got the call from the service manager the next day telling me that the warranty DIDNT cover the springs. The repair would be 775.00. He also informed me that Ford had recalled earlier Tauruses for this very thing, but for some reason not the 2002 model year. Needless to say I am furious! With only 35,000 miles and 2 payments left what could I do? I paid it.
The total repair bill came close to 800.00 (a pair of springs and a new tire).

My 2002 F-150 began shuddering about 8 months ago. Since then: I've had all the sparkplugs replaced; reoccured and had an engine coil replaced (about 3 months ago); now it's back worse than ever.
Initially, I'd feel the misfires between 40-60mph under light load only. Now, it's all the time -- idling, most any speed and under practically any load. I took it back to a shop and they correctly diagnosed the problem (as my research has shown); but, since the check engine light is not yet on, they can't narrow it down to what plug/coil to replace.
I'll be following the advice to buy a whole set of coils from eBay for $98 and get the shop to put 'em in. But, I fear that it'll all come back in a few more months, and/or a plug will be spit out and the cylinder head damaged.
I followed Don of Omaha NE's advice and called called Ford's Customer Care department to log an official complaint: 1-800-392-3673. After gathering all my information, she asked what I was seeking from Ford at this time.
I referenced this website, many others, and that I'm seeking to log a official complaint, hoping that that will lead to Ford offering a recall due to the large number of vehicles that this applies to. She said indeed that it's just this sort of phone call that could lead to a recall being announced. We'll see... So, I second Dan of Omaha's plea: EVERYONE SHOULD CALL FORD TO COMPLAIN!!!

On Jan 29, 2000, I was in a low speed impact of 25-26 miles per hour. The front impact accident was caused by an uninsured driver. The driver drove across my land when I was traveling forward, he turned left, and I hit the side of his 87 Ford Bronco with my 98 Ford Escort. The air bag deployed and caused multiple injuries to my head, face, neck and spine. Two years later, I lost vision in my right eye, and then within 6 months my left eye, from center and side cataracts at the same time. My nose was broken, teeth loosened and one broken, forehead and scalp tenderness since the accident with electrical surge feelings on top of my forehead when startled or turn too quickly as if startled. My spine is jammed to the right and down from c3 through c7, and have constant pain and headaches if my neck is tipped off the spinal column. No one believes that all this was caused by the air bag and would not even talk to me about the faulty air bag that wasn't to deploy under 30 miles per hour.
I could not do the same work anymore, and it has progressively gotten worse. I could not lift my arms up above my chest. I still cannot do so without pain and very limited amount of time in that position. It took three doctors and 9.5 months to prove to anyone my nose was broken and finally had surgery to repair all the damage to the septum inside. I had to wait for grants to have surgeries on both eyes (IOL implants), one surgery a year. The right eye was partially successful and the left very good. I am now, after 5 years, working again in an office, part time, and driving again. I was unable to drive for almost two years due to vision and still cannot drive at night very well, or not at all if raining due to lights. My eyes do not change focus and are totally far sighted and I wear magnifying glasses for work and reading at home. I love to read and can only do so for short periods as my eyes get pained.
I had bought my home just before I lost my vision, 4 months, and had to finally sell to get my bills paid off as much as possible. I could not refinance it with no income or ability to find a job. I lost my dream home. It wasn't anything fancy, but mine nonetheless. I am now trying to pay off the last of the doctor bills not covered by my one year of PIP coverage and trying to get on my feet. I had to live with family and over a friend’s shop for a year and a half until I could find work and save to rent a place. I was unable to receive help from the state, except briefly, as I was in my own home. I had to live off my equity for almost 2 years to stay in my home, hoping to get work and be able to make the payments. My lien holder allowed me to make small payments. When we sold it, I had to be caught up so I had very little left in it. This was my dream to have a home where my grandchildren would always know where to come for help or just to find grandma.
I live as naturally as possible in this work and have done so for over 30 years. I refused anti-depressant drugs and pain pills, as well as surgeries, which did not help but made things worse for me. Because I did not opt for the surgeries and such, it hurt me in getting financial help through social security and the state. Economically, I have lost my home, a normal way to create income, my credit is ruined, my whole life was changed and so was my body and mind. I am just now trying to get back to being my positive self and be able to have interactions with other people and in social situations. I have learned to read my body and to control the severity of my headaches with bio feedback, stretching or yoga.
I also learned self hypnotism to handle pain and to achieve sleep. I was unable to sleep more than 1-1.5 hours at a time for almost three years. I underwent a terrible depression for almost 5 years and had to work very diligently to keep bad thoughts out of my life. I still have high pitched noise in my ears, head and tendinitis. Some days, it is so high pitched that it hurts. I have to use self hypnosis to handle the pain. I am still having some vertigo problems once in a while, but not constantly as was for 4 years. I also can control my emotions now and do not cry easily. My incontinence is getting better with diet controls. All my injuries were caused by the air bag and it deployed at 180 miles per hour into my face for a low speed impact.

As is the case with so many other people, the V-10 Triton engine manufactured by Ford than runs our 2001 Georgetown motor home (chassis by Ford; coach by Forest River of Goshen, Indiana) has blown a spark plug for a second time.
Mechanics willing to re-sleeve the cylinder are few and far between. Ford dealerships will replace the engine head, refusing to use a simple tool, which Ford itself makes, to resleeve the cylinder for the spark plug.
Gas fumes enter the entire coach of the motor home, necessitating the evacuation of my family into our tow vehicle, which is detached, and my driving the motor home as gas fumes enter the coach.
We must continue to drive as I make my living giving talks to small groups of Catholics across the nation. I have no choice but to continue to drive until we find someone to resleeve the cylinder. We found man in northern California in early 2006 who used the tool, which we had to rent from a company in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to resleeve one cylinder. We are in need of finding another such competent person in Alabama or Florida.
This has cost us much in the past. It is costing much at present. Ford must be held accountable for this. I would be willing to testify before a Congressional committee on this dereliction of duty by Ford by its placing the owners of the V-10 Triton engine in great physical jeopardy.

Anyway my head hit the steering wheel column and made a very big and deep gash in my forehead. This happened because the airbags in my Ford Explorer did not deploy. I was rushed to the hospital and received over 400 stitches in my head. This was not very pleasing. All of this could have been avoided if the airbags had deployed. They did not.

I purchased a 2006 F-350 Supercab diesel 4x4 at the end of Aug. 2006. I took delivery on a Thursday. That weekend, I had the truck on the highway for the first time when I felt a vibration at 65 mph. That Monday, I proceeded to report this to the service manager. They brought the truck in a week or two later. They kept the truck for a few days as they changed the two back tires. They returned the truck telling me it was all set. The next time I took the truck on the highway, the vibration was still there. I returned it for service again with the dealer keeping the truck for 1 1/2 weeks as they tried several sets of tires. Finally, they returned the truck stating again that it had been road tested and was all set. Upon driving it on the highway again, I still had the vibration at 65 mph.
Upon returning it for a third time, they agreed to try a different brand tire as they assured me the problem was in fact in the tires (Continentals). This time, they put Cooper Discoverer Tires on it. Upon the vehicle being returned, the vibration was still there. The dealer then had a Ford engineer come out to look at the truck. In the end, they told me that the vibration was an undesirable characteristic of the truck. I have owned 4 other superduty trucks a ‘99, 2002, 2003, 2005, and now the 2006. The previous trucks never had this issue. I also have had the truck in for a loud rubbing or grinding noise which only occurs at 45 mph at a particular rpm. They brought the truck and replaced the turbo pedestal and one other part.
Upon returning the truck, they admitted that the problem was no better, and had no remedy for the problem as they are not sure what the problem is. I have driven other Ford trucks with the same motor, and none made the noise my truck makes which is being played off as normal. At this point, Ford has denied my request for their buyback program so I went to the owner, Chris **. He stated that he would speak with the regional Ford rep. to see what they could do for me. I have been waiting over 3 weeks for some type of answer. One and a half weeks ago, I was told that the regional rep. needed to speak to her boss, but I still have not received an answer. At this point, I don't know what to do as these issues have been very time consuming as well as extremely frustrating especially since the problem was reported within days of taking delivery of the truck.

I was on my way home from work and passed by my sons work around 4:30, I seen the truck parked, every thing was fine. Around 5:30pm my son calls me on my cell saying the expedition was on fire.
Orange County Fire and Cypress Police responed. I arrived the scene at 5:40-5:45 and the fire was out. A witness said the fire started in the engine compartment on the left side, fire dept concurred. A passer by in a 2002 Ford Expedition stopped and said, did I know there was a recall on the Vehicle Speed Control, I responded, no I didnt know!
I did some research on the internet and found a recall for the Vehicle Speed Control, recall # 05V388000. This is a tragedy, Ford needs to make this right.

It cost him $349. We thought that would solve the problem when a week later #7 did they same thing. The service department help us with a discount $273 (we were blessed on this one). The service department said that there is moisture in the cylinders and they could dry them out for $219. My vehicle only has 65,000 miles and I bought the vehicle in March 2006.

My car was parked at the airport for a week while I travelled. When I returned the front driver's side tire was flat. Upon removing it, we noticed a gash around the inside in a circular shape.
The spring on the McPherson strut was sticking out into the tire area. Apparently the spring busted out when the car was parked and then when I backed up the car to leave, it sliced into the tire, making a large gash. I only drove about a foot, realizing the car wasn't moving correctly. That's when I got out and saw the flat.
I was fortunate not to be driving when this incident occured because it was very hazardous. When we called the local Ford dealer they said there was no re-call on this part. As it was, I had to change the tire at 10 PM in cold (9 degrees F, and a strong wind), then drive 90 miles to get home at about 40 mph. As it was a Saturday night there were no service stations open, nor would there be until Monday morning.

The fire dept showed up but could not save the explorer it had melted from the front bumper to the dash and there was heavy smoke damage to the inside of the vehicle. Also my brother's vehicle was parked in the garage next to mine the whole drivers side had melted from the heat it to was a total loss. There was major damage to the garage and if not for the neighbor who woke us up at 3:00am God knows what would have happened. I truly don't believe i would be alive today. So i had the vehicle for all of 5 days and have nothing ..Im out the $5,800 i paid for it and could not believe there was a recall still open on the vehicle .....something needs to be done !!!!!!!!!!!!

I began looking on the internet and found multitudes of complaints about Ford's problems with their airbags. I thought that I had purchased a safe vehicle, but I was wrong! I have sustained multiple injuries, including a severely sprained right ankle, right knee injury, left wrist injury, left shoulder injury, and whiplash. Also, my head hit the windshield, and I have been having headaches since my wreck. I have been out of work, and I am expected to be out for three weeks and will lose some pay for the time that I am out. I am having to use up the remainder of my vacation time and sick time that I had built up. My husband had whiplash and sternum pain from hitting the steering wheel. My son had a broken tooth and had to have some dental repair done. We do not yet know all of the medical and dental costs that we have incurred. We have had numerous xrays, and I have had a visit to the Orthopedic Surgeon and will have to go back for further tests.

In December the number 8 coil went so I went to auto zone and replaced it along with all plugs. the book says to do this at 100,000 miles I had 77,049, this seamed to fix the problem for about a week then it started to run rough again so took it back to dealer this time was the #5,7, & 2 coil and spark plugs they did not charge me for # 2 coil. but still cost me $448.26.
I don't trust my truck to go anywhere as I still have 4 more coils to go and now I am finding that these engins are puking plugs. If I bought a new pick up would Ford have solved this problem or am I just getting another problem. I am 64 years old and have always owned a Ford had good luck until now.

I bought the 14 x 1.25MM Helicoil kit for $78.00. It comes with a tap, 5 Helicoils, and the insertion tube and tool. In early 2006 I was sitting at a stop just around the corner from my home when I heard this pop and then a repetitive tattering sound from under the hood of my truck. I had the truck taken to a certified ford repair center to find out that it had blown out a spark plug. The repair facility stated that Ford trucks are imfamous for doing this and when it happens it strips the aluminum head requiring a replacement head or helicoil insert.
The facility fixed my truck and I was on my way, only 43,000 miles on my truck and I get it serviced around every 3000 miles. On December 31st 2006 I was half way home in a 700+ mile trip with my family when I heard a very familiar pop and the same repetitive tattering under my hood. I immediately pulled off the road, 36 degrees outside and raining, to find out that I had another plug that had been blown from the number 1 cylinder.
I was lucky that I just recieved some tools for Christmas, which I opened and used to get the plug reinserted so that I could get my truck home. If this had been just my wife and kids, which it was suppose to be, then they would have been stranded on the side of the road and I would have incurred a tow charge along with the repair charge I will have to incur. This is a big problem with Ford trucks and if Ford is not going to own up and fix this problem free of charge to the consumers that experiences this problem then I think they should be forced to recall and fix all vehicles with this potential problem.
The unfortunate part of this is that my Dad is a huge proponent of Ford Trucks and has been a Ford truck owner since 1967. My dad has passed on his secured feeling about Ford trucks to both my brother and myself. My Dad has owned 4 Ford trucks and I have owned 1, this my first, and if this cannot be resolved then I can not buy another Ford truck going forward because I must buy vehicles that I can trust from a company I can trust.

The only apparent physical damage is to the cylinder head (stripped threads), the coil (destroyed) and the spark plug. The repairs will cost approximately $1100 at the local Ford dealer. Fortunately, they think they can make the repair without pulling the head. If they had to pull the head, the repairs would cost over $3000.

My wife was driving our 2002 Ford Taurus to work in mid Dec. 2006. The left spring broke into 3 pieces on a smooth State Route, fortunately she is not a fast driver and was not hurt. One of the pieces punctured the axil boot and damaged the bearings and bent the axil making the vehicle unmanuverable. None of the repairs or tow was covered since the car has 39,900 miles. This is bad, we purchased the extended warranty on the power train which should have covered the axil repair and the tow. But since the spring did the damage and the spring is not covered, Ford would not cover any of the expense. I called the complaint number and reviewed the coverage with the extended warranty service. They all said, they agree with the dealer.
