Our editor’s take

Anyone with a car who wants to skip going to a mechanic for the diagnostic step when its “check engine” light comes on can benefit from FIXD. It offers an affordable way to monitor your vehicle’s health and quickly learn about issues as they arise. While it can’t tell you everything that’s wrong with your vehicle, it still stands as one of the most comprehensive solutions for identifying issues with your vehicle.

How does FIXD work?

FIXD is an automobile diagnostic tool that connects to your vehicle to offer real-time insights into vehicle health. The FIXD sensor monitors your car’s systems and alerts you to any issues through its mobile application. Currently, FIXD is able to read and diagnose only check engine lights. Other lights like air bag, maintenance and stability control are not read.

Once an issue is identified, FIXD offers detailed explanations of the problem and estimated repair costs. A FIXD sensor is connected to your vehicle’s On-Board Diagnostic 2 (OBD2) port. OBD2 ports are typically located under the dashboard, beneath the steering wheel column. You can consult your vehicle owner’s manual for your port’s exact location. FIXD sensors are easy to install and work with all gas-powered cars and trucks built after 1996.

FIXD services

FIXD provides a comprehensive solution for car diagnostics and maintenance. The FIXD sensor connects to your car’s OBD2 port, then transmits data to the smartphone app. The app interprets check engine light and diagnostic codes, while providing detailed explanations of issues and solutions. It also offers estimated repair costs and a map of nearby repair shops.

In addition to vehicle health monitoring, FIXD tracks maintenance schedules. It alerts you to upcoming service needs. The FIXD app is free, with subscription based premium options.

Premium benefits include emissions precheck, issue forecast and a mechanic hotline. Emissions precheck looks for potential emissions issues before a smog test (if your state requires one). Additionally, issue forecasting predicts future issues or areas of concern. The goal of forecasting is to fix an issue before it becomes bigger and more costly.

How much does FIXD cost?

A fixed OBD2 sensor costs $59.99. The mobile application is free to download and has an additional cost for a premium subscription. The premium subscription is available for $8.99 per month or $69.99 per year.

Just like the other reviews, I was charged $99.99 without agreeing to a subscription of any kind. Spoke with them on the phone, initially, and was told my account had been updated. A year later, I get charged for a premium subscription. They will not refund my money. Have a dispute now filed with PayPal. Dishonest company and I can’t imagine how much money they have scammed people for. I would never recommend them.

I paid for a FIXD cartridge, And that's what I got, The FIXD cartridge did not work as advertised, I paid for three months and for books on car batteries, Got no books, plus no service on the FIXD devise. And I asked for a refund many times, Then blocked, This is after I spent over $175+. And basically to piss off. Still have it, looks new, in its original box. Never worked.

One year after I bought FIXD they charged my credit card $99 for some hidden subscription which I was not aware of nor knowingly agreed to. Total scam. Shame! Also my experience with the FIXD unit itself was not great. Very cumbersome. Buyer beware! Buyer stay clear!

I been a customer with FIXD for years and never really used the service. I have 3 devices, I forgot I had the service. On 12/30/25 my card was debited $99 by FIXD. On 12/3025 I asked for a refund and was denied. I emailed them asking for the refund because it was same day and was emailed by George **, stated that no I wasn’t getting a refund. So I emailed John Gattuso THE CEO who didn’t have the guts to return my email, he had Mr. ** email me once again stating I wasn’t getting my money back. They are getting money from people for unused services. I’m only asked for the money that was taken on the same day I requested a refund. Times are hard but millionaires don’t care about us little people.

Although the product may be worthwhile the attempt to cancel subscription and receive a refund is not. The company will cancel my subscription but will not refund the payment they deducted from my bank account on the same day of cancellation.

This product is garbage. If I need a mechanic it definitely won’t be one they suggest. It does not do what they advertise it to do. Just buy a code scanner. It will do much more. All it does is show a bunch of generic things wrong with your car that are fine. They want you to get a subscription and also skim off any profit.

I saw the ads for FIXD for $19.99. I purchased it for$19.99. I received an email saying I need to download download the app, so I did. I see a $99.00 charge I know nothing about. The scanner says my car is fine. I don't think it is. That's why I purchased the scanner. I need to call them about the charge.

Glad I read these reviews before buying. I was going to try it because it it said 20 bucks but then am not looking to be locked into a subscription. I’ll just go to Advance Auto and let them hook me up for free.

It's a scam!!! They charge you $20 for the contraption then immediately charge $99. Then a month later another $99. I'm on disability and cannot afford this piece of crap at $99/month!! My mechanic is a LOT cheaper than FIXD! SCAM ALERT!
