Our editor’s take

Anyone with a car who wants to skip going to a mechanic for the diagnostic step when its “check engine” light comes on can benefit from FIXD. It offers an affordable way to monitor your vehicle’s health and quickly learn about issues as they arise. While it can’t tell you everything that’s wrong with your vehicle, it still stands as one of the most comprehensive solutions for identifying issues with your vehicle.

How does FIXD work?

FIXD is an automobile diagnostic tool that connects to your vehicle to offer real-time insights into vehicle health. The FIXD sensor monitors your car’s systems and alerts you to any issues through its mobile application. Currently, FIXD is able to read and diagnose only check engine lights. Other lights like air bag, maintenance and stability control are not read.

Once an issue is identified, FIXD offers detailed explanations of the problem and estimated repair costs. A FIXD sensor is connected to your vehicle’s On-Board Diagnostic 2 (OBD2) port. OBD2 ports are typically located under the dashboard, beneath the steering wheel column. You can consult your vehicle owner’s manual for your port’s exact location. FIXD sensors are easy to install and work with all gas-powered cars and trucks built after 1996.

FIXD services

FIXD provides a comprehensive solution for car diagnostics and maintenance. The FIXD sensor connects to your car’s OBD2 port, then transmits data to the smartphone app. The app interprets check engine light and diagnostic codes, while providing detailed explanations of issues and solutions. It also offers estimated repair costs and a map of nearby repair shops.

In addition to vehicle health monitoring, FIXD tracks maintenance schedules. It alerts you to upcoming service needs. The FIXD app is free, with subscription based premium options.

Premium benefits include emissions precheck, issue forecast and a mechanic hotline. Emissions precheck looks for potential emissions issues before a smog test (if your state requires one). Additionally, issue forecasting predicts future issues or areas of concern. The goal of forecasting is to fix an issue before it becomes bigger and more costly.

How much does FIXD cost?

A fixed OBD2 sensor costs $59.99. The mobile application is free to download and has an additional cost for a premium subscription. The premium subscription is available for $8.99 per month or $69.99 per year.

The sensor worked ok, as far as I know. Not a car guru but seemed ok, BUT BEWARE! This company then will hit your credit card with $99.99 charges repeatedly. Legit purchase on 04/09/26, and now two fraudulent charges in the above amount on 04/23/26 and 04/26/26. Thankfully my bank blocked them.

I ordered the FIXD plug in about a year or so ago (through Amazon) but never even used it. Shortly after it arrived my "problem car" was totaled and my new one has no diagnosis needs. So imagine my surprise when my CC company contacted me (moments ago) saying that fixd was attempting to charge my credit card for $99. For what?!? I guarantee I never signed up for anything and for what has turned out to be a ever increasing waste of time and money, I regret ever getting involved with them.

The product itself is a very great tool. The issue is that when it was purchased there was nothing seen about there was a money that was expected for the product itself. It was nothing in the little box that indicated that there was a monthly(?) I assume charge connected to it.

I recently ordered the FIXD diagnostic tool. I haven’t received it yet so I can’t review its use on my car, but BEWARE at checkout if you decide to purchase this. Nowhere in the process does it mention an automatic signup for their Premium service and only indicates that you have the option to add that extra feature until you complete checkout. After you pay they inform you that you now have a two week trial subscription which will automatically become a $99.99 subscription if you don’t cancel. Also the “Manage Subscription” tab doesn’t respond in the app. I was forced to send an email to the support email address, so we will see if they respond. My future recommendation of this product will depend on their response and the product performance. In

Received a device unsolicited from the company, did not use it and was charged an annual fee. After contacting the company, they canceled the service but refused to refund the money. Merely requesting a refund for a service I don't intend to use.

I totally agree with all of the numerous one star complaints, from non-existent customer service, unable to get a refund due to double 99 dollar charges, to a USELESS chat, like most. Eric **, the CTO, returned my email once, then disappeared. Frederick ** (COO) and John ** (CEO) can be found on the internet, as I did. Good luck. Actually, the product does work, I referred one friend, but will NEVER recommend this product to anyone again. I think they are too busy counting their money to create a real customer service department.
