While driving my 2013 Chevy Cruze with only 13,500 miles on it and bought brand new, I experienced a horrible smell of anti-freeze in the car while the heat was on. It seemed to be worse when the heat was set at high but was still there at a lower setting. It got so bad over a few days, it started to make me sick and that's when I took it to the dealer. They said they found a leaking return hose to the coolant tank and replaced it. It has not fixed the problem. I received a letter from Chevy stating there may be a problem with the water pump gaskets that will cause coolant leaks. I logged on to the NHTSA website and found complaints for the same problem. I opened an account on this site because I want a paper trail started on this problem for my car. I, apparently, am not the only one who is having this problem. I have never had a car in my life that reeked the smell of anti-freeze into the car. Even my old 1965 Falcon ran better and smelled better than this. I will be contacting my family doctor to see if constant exposure to coolant fumes could cause a health problem in the future. I'm sure Chevy is aware of this so I hope they do the right thing and get this problem fixed.

I bought a new 2014 Cruz LT one week ago. Asked the dealer if it has Bluetooth to connect my iPhone to make calls and play music. He told me it would and showed me how to make a call. The software to make a call is junk, you have to repeat and correct it many times before it makes a hands free call. Looked all over to get Bluetooth music streaming working and so far no luck. The model I have does not have the touch screen so that could be the issue but the dealer should have known that. I found a FAQ on the chevy website ** with the following info: "Yes, you can stream audio from any smartphone that supports Bluetooth Audio Streaming". Now the bad part. Car is parked in the garage. I use the passenger door to get in the car and start exploring all the settings with the radio, xm usb connections etc. The car was never started but the key was turned to on. When I had enough, I took the key out while the radio is still playing. I leave the car and lock all the doors with my remote key. The radio is still on and playing. Waited 5 minutes and the radio is still playing. I wonder will it ever shut off? If not the battery will drain. Waited for about another 10 minutes and the radio shut down. All other cars that I had in the past will shut down the radio when you take out the keys or close the doors.

I will just tell you my story. My particular 2011 Cruze isn't a lemon but it does have some issues. When I first bought the car I had to take it back for service but I don't remember why now. The service writer noticed that I actually had the wrong floor mats. He asked if I wanted the correct ones and I said yes. So he goes to get them out of stock to install. He couldn't for the life of him get those mats to seat on the posts that hold them to the floorboard in one place. I finally gave up in exasperation and told him I would deal with it later. Well, after many attempts, I couldn't get them on either. So back to the dealer I go. So they put in an order for new mats. I waited on those for several weeks and when installation day came, they didn't fit either! After several more weeks, the service writer finally discovered there were two models of floor mats for this car. Really? GM can't even get floor mats right?

Sadly, this incident has been followed by at least a half-dozen recalls on this car. Fortunately, all were covered under warranty and the dealer paid for a rent car but then I had to pay for the taxes! What? Honestly, I have lost count on how many times I have taken this car to the dealer for service to correct a GM screw up. The latest incident found the heater not working (on the coldest day of the year yet) and a cracked intake inlet pipe and cracked coolant tank vent hose. 5 days in the shop...

Another issue I have is with the rev limiter. From a standstill, I can floor the accelerator and the engine just gentle engages and you creep forward until you hit a certain RPM. I understand this is a fuel saving device but it is also a potentially dangerous one if you need to get out of the way quickly. I owned GM cars for years until I broke and bought a Ford and then a Honda. I swore I would never buy another GM but what did I do? I went and bought another GM and I have paid for it, and paid for it, and paid for it! I seriously doubt I will ever buy another GM product.

I bought a 2014 Chevy Cruze LTRS three weeks ago from Joe Ball GMC. The car had 16,000 miles on it and they said it was GM certified used and a good car. At first I loved this car. It had every option you could dream of. Then three days after I got it I noticed the heat wasn't working. This is a big issue. I live in Pittsburgh, it's November and we have already had frost on the windows and temps into the low thirties. It's pretty sad when the air outside is warmer than the air coming out from the defrosters. I noticed when I moved the temperature knob from hot to cold and back to hot I would hear a popping sound in the dash and the heat would work but that fix only lasted a short while. I called the dealer and was told they were busy with recall work and I would have to wait a week to get it in for service.

So I finally get the car in for service. I spend five hours there with my sixteen month old daughter and they tell me the issue was fixed so we leave and the heat worked for a day and went out again. So I called out there, again same thing. I have to wait till the next week so I called the sales manager. He tells me to bring it in that afternoon. So I take the car in and get a loaner from the dealer and they say, "It's going to take some time. We'll call you later." The next day they call at 5 pm and say it's fixed so we go out to pick up the car and I make it about three miles down the road and guess what, no Heat again so I take it back again. They've had my cars another two days and now say I can pick it up Monday so we'll see if it's fixed this time. I've never had these many problems with a car. I'm highly disappointed with Chevy and the GM certified used program and of course the dealer's services department.

    Reviewed Oct. 30, 2014

In October 2011 after coming into a little money I decided to purchase a new 2012 Chevy Cruze ls. I normally would not have bought a brand new car but had the money and thought it would be good to have a reliable car that would be problem free for years to come. That's far from what I got. Before I get into the problems I have had I would like to say that when my Cruze is not broke it is a pleasure to drive. Also, my local Chevrolet dealer LeValley has always been very good at handling the problems I have had. So having said those things what problems have I had?

The first problem was with the trunk latch. I had the dealer (not Levalley) arrange for a rear lip spoiler to be installed and the latch got stuck following that. The dealer I purchased the car took care of that in short time. Then there was the recall for the heat shield under the engine. Took it to my dealer where they cut the heat shield off with a sawzall leaving a mangled mess underneath. When I complained it was a big, “oh well that’s what GM told us to do.” I called GM and they referred me back to the dealer. The dealer stuck by what they originally said. This is when I decided I would use LeValley from now on instead.

The next problem I had was a message "ac turned off due to high engine temp." Took car in. They said there was a logic lock in the computer and they had to reprogram the computer. A few weeks after this I began smelling coolant so I took the car back to dealer and they found there was a blown head gasket. This was about 18000 miles. They repaired that and I had to take the car back in 2 times in a month following that for coolant loss. Both times it was due to air in the lines though coolant loss has continued and I frequently have to add coolant. Now I have 44000 miles on the car and 3 weeks ago I had a check engine light come on. Took it in for service where they found a faulty thermostat. A few days later there was a strong smell of coolant and large coolant loss. Took the car back to the dealer where they said they couldn't find any leaks and that the coolant smell was residual spilled from thermostat repair and coolant loss due to air in the lines.

Now just 2 weeks later my engine light is on again. The car is jerking a lot at low speeds and the coolant level continues to go down. I have an appointment on Tuesday November 4 for the car to be serviced again. Hopefully it will be covered by my powertrain warranty. So I bought a new car so I would have a reliable car that was problem free. I got a car that has been plagued with problems. While LeValley and GM have so far been very good at repairing the car it is still hard to trust the car for anything beyond local driving. Also how much has all of these warranty repairs lowered the value of my car. It's not right and I will likely never buy an American car again.

My name is Paulo **, I am from Portugal and, unfortunately I own a Chevrolet Cruze LS with some technical issues since I bought it new in Aug 2011. Because of that I have informed Chevrolet Portugal many times but their answers are all poor / evasive and do not assure in accordance with the complains held by their customers. They also seem to be no responsible for the defective technical interventions undertaken by its authorized agents, some of which are directly related to vehicle safety. For this I would like your answer and one proposed solution as soon as possible.

Let expose the facts: The 1st repair was performed on 02.27.2013 in I.S. Car agent (in legal guarantee period). This authorized repairer replaced the front brake discs without having replaced the brake pads. Result, the problem recurred later. Chevrolet has the replaced parts the record and allowed this situation! The Chevrolet received the complaint on 22/03/2013 attached and has not given any formal and objective response to the issues presented therein exhaustively.

The 2nd repair was performed on 07.24.2014 in Entreposto de Lisboa and followed by Chevrolet Portugal (still in warranty, 2 + 1 year). This authorized repair agent asks the Chevrolet again for the replacement of the front brake disks. Chevrolet does not authorize initially. After much persuasion and a threat to the agent, Chevrolet authorizes discs but indicates that the pads have to be paid by the customer. The customer accepts in order to see this situation finally resolved, although it is not obliged to do; The repair agent dropped brake fluid in the brake circuit pipes and says there is no problem. I expressly asked Chevrolet to indicate me if this is some danger and Chevrolet did not report anything or assume responsibility; So again, I demand a formal response.

The repair agent poorly executed the painting work of mirrors, scratched the windshield on several areas, the water splash from the windshield works with lags behind the brushes. Again the agent responds effectively that the painting have to be revised but other situations are "normal"! The previous repairs from authorized repair agents remain with unresolved issues of inconsistent braking that other users also complain on forums. The plastic shield with the clutch was not solved but instead remedied with a piece of foam which increases the clearance which initially I complained about. Chevrolet Portugal seems to accept this without any doubt and tells the customers that "Their authorized agent have done all according the procedures and checked all parts before returning me the car."

So I have some questions for which I intend a response:

    1. The inadvertent leakage of brake fluid by agent on adjacent pipes (corrosive material) is certainly danger to the safety of the driver and occupants. Who is responsible for this in case of an accident?

    2. On Cruze LS cars is it normal that the water splash from windshield only act when the brushes have swept the windshield dry?

    3. On Cruze LS cars is it supposed to replace sparks at 30,000 km (as done by agent) or at 60,000 km as indicated in the instruction manual of the car?

    4. Chevrolet Portugal indicates that the car is out of the warranty. However the damages occurrence were still within the warranty period and the formal complaint (red book) was within 45 days after agent repair. On the other hand, if it were legal warranty then yes, you would be willing to fix the damage? So what is the contractual warranty and what it covers and why Chevrolet announces 3 years warranty when in fact it is fake.

    5. What Chevrolet / GM intends to its image? Definitely your posture is not serious / competent and arrives bordering on arrogance. Obviously this will impact future sales and I will do everything to prevent that any vehicles from the GM group are not an option for me or my friends / family, including the brand OPEL since Chevrolet is dying in Europe until the end of 2015.

I would like a formal response to this complaint and those questions here. I also inform you that my patience was exceeded and that this text will be disseminated everywhere. It is my duty to inform the community and do whatever is in my hand to exclude brands from the market that do not deserve the trust of their customers. Best regards.

Alright, before I get going here I am very disappointed in the reviews. First off, how many are actually real? Whenever someone posts a review lacking details on the car, just complaints, I have to take it with a grain of salt. My story begins back in 2012... I got a 2012 Cruze 1LT back then. I loved it. Crystal Red Tint coat with a Red/Black two-toned interior. Got it brand new. Never caused any problems. Loved it. Prior to that I had a 2009 Pontiac Wave (got that one brand new too, hated it!). My only gripe is the price of the oil changes, but that's unavoidable:) I won't do it myself while it's under full warranty so they can't complain if something happens. Better safe than sorry, right?

Between May 2012 and October 2014 I put 48,000 kilometers on it doing about 70km a day, 5 days a week plus some weekend driving. I'll say that about 75% of my driving is highway driving at over 80/kph. Queue... last week. Get a call from my Dealership asking if I want to trade in my car! I had 0% financing on the 2012, and it was still running great. But closing in of the 3 year/60,000km bumper-to-bumper warranty ending. Thought about it, decided to go for it. They paid out what I owed on it and I picked up a.... 2014 Cruze 1LT... Boom. Blue Ray Metallic exterior, black interior. Remote Start, Connectivity packages. I did NOT go with the Pioneer sound system again.

It was nice in my 2012, but I found the Sub woofer was too powerful, and my rear view mirror would shake that there was an earthquake happening (not a big deal, just decided I didn't need it). Been driving for a week. Love it. It feels a bit different. I want to say it feels like there is more power behind it but not sure. Handles the same. Love the feel of it. One of the nice features of this car.... The roomy inside. Coming from a Sunfire, then Pontiac Wave (Chevy Aveo)...to the Cruze, it's a massive difference. It's very comfortable.

For me though, I'm 6 feet tall, I have my driver chair back far. It kind of kills the leg room behind me. Not a big deal, I never have more than 2 other people in my car anyhow. For some people, that might be a killer. I haven't had the 2014 long enough to say that there have been issues. But I don't regret the upgrade yet. Love it. Do I recommend the Cruze? Absolutely. So much that several people I know have got one after I told them about it and they rode in it. They love theirs too. Will there be recalls? Yes. Do they suck? Totally.

But in fairness, some of them are a 'better safe than sorry' to avoid any issues. And unfortunately, the internet is a great place for complainers to congregate. For every 1 complainer there are probably one hundred happy consumers. Unfortunately, those who are unsatisfied or upset tend to speak out more than those who are happy, making it seem like the car is bad... Which, it is not!

On the 2014 Models, you get the OnStar Remote free for 5 years, even if you do not want to pay for OnStar. And honestly, that was the ONLY reason I paid for OnStar previously, never used any other features. So you can Remote Start or Remote Lock/Unlock from your phone FREE for 5 years. Nice, right? It's a savings if you usually pay for OnStar and don't use the Navigation, Theft or any of those other features.

I called the dealership today October 18, 2014 and they said it would be ready for pick up on Monday October 20, 2014 when I return from my trip. So almost 2 years ago my fiance purchased a 2011 Chevy Cruze. At first great car - was in love with it. Then about 8 months into having it started to have leak too. Took it in and they fixed it but then later had issue with transmission. Was stalling, took it in. They said they didn't know what was wrong with it and we had to get used to the transmission. Well since then the car is no longer in warranty and a few months ago we started getting random air bags need servicing message on the dash board. Took it to Chevy who had the car for over 2 days and had no idea the cause of the issue. Gave us back the car - continues to still do this at random, not all the time.

We also live in So. Ca. It gets extremely hot here and the a/c randomly won't turn on which is insane. Again Chevy claims they have no idea the cause of this either. Most recently the car started to have issues, starting first like it didn't want to start or was going to shut off and then one morning wouldn't start at all, just clicked. Took to Autozone, said starter, battery, and alternator all good. Was not sure the cause of this issue. This problem continued. We got the alternator rebuilt, told was corroded. However the car still is having issues starting especially if half a tank of gas or less is in the car.

Then this morning it takes three times to start and says the power steering needs servicing. Wtf I'm so mad and disappointed with this car. I regret buying it and regret doing business with GM and they're a joke. They don't resolve anything and act like it's the first time they have got a complaint regarding this issue. I'm beyond sick of this. I really want to get rid of it or trade it but with all the problems no one will give us even half of what we owe.

I just wanted to post a review here because 1.) unfortunately, most reviews online are negative because people just want to complain and for someone to hear it. And 2.) there's only one positive review on this site about the Cruze. First off, if you are considering buying a vehicle, there is only ever one thing you can count on and that is that you are going to pay for it. Cars, just like every other thing in this life, have problems and not every single car out there is going to be 100% issue free. Especially once you start looking into used cars. The chances of your problems increase ten-fold. There is just no way to ever really know. But that is the beauty of buying new. You can take car of the car and rely on the manufacturers warranty for as long as that lasts.

The Cruze has been a huge seller in the United States and out of the hundreds of thousands I'm sure are out there and after reading every single complaint on this site (and many others) I am confident in saying I would highly recommend buying this car (new). Excellent price point, excellent gas mileage, excellent performance for its class, and excellent aesthetics. Not only fun but smart to drive. Especially if you get a turbo with the MyLink system. The only thing I could've asked for would be a spare instead of the inflator kit but this seems to be the way of the future in most cars anymore.

Basically, to any future posters I would just like to say consider this: did you buy it used? And have you really taken as good of care of it as you should've to have prevented some of these problems? Car ownership is so mainstream these days that people don't realize they might actually need to know a little bit about how to operate and maintain it in order to not have any issues. But hey, at the end of the day, it's still a machine and one that is heavily used and relied upon so it sucks when we find out just how not invincible it really is.

I am speaking for my boyfriend's sake. I am one piss off girlfriend. We bought our Cruze in March of 2014 and now it is September. We thought we had found the car of our dreams after just buying a Hyundai Sonata, (then the engine blowing on that 2 days later) but no we had not! First it started with our censors going out a month after. Okay maybe that isn't a major problem but it starts with that. Then as we moved to Florida it began with us having to use the A/C A LOT!! It's hot here of course. Well, then the car started to jump at red lights.

We did some research and decided to give it a minor tune up. The brakes were great! Still in great condition. Oil was amazing. Everything was great! We gave it a fuel treatment. Spent $200! Still jumping. Then matters got worse. Cruze started jerking more. When we first turned it on after already running, it almost sounding like it wanted to shut off but didn't. Then at one point it did roll backwards at a red light. Thank God for those great brakes!

Now the car is saying the stabilitrak is needing work and the check engine light stays on. The extremely rude men and women at the Chevy Dealer near me are telling me my warranty does not cover what I need since it is a minor problem. Excuse me??? Minor?! Minor is my car going backwards, or shutting off, or shaking or jerking?! My boyfriend is a mechanic. I can trust him but hearing what these "professionals" had to say is a load of **. I am very unhappy and would not recommend this car. Do not get me wrong, I loved it. Just like everyone on here I died for this car. It was amazing at first but it is not worth all the time spent in the shop and having rude people tell you something that is not true just because they do not want to admit that their Cruze SUCKS!!! I am very disappointed in Chevy! It all makes sense to me now, wow after 2015 they are no longer making the Chevy Cruze with all the recalls and problems and complaints, wow!!! I believe every Chevy Cruze owner deserve every penny invested into their car back!!

Let me start by saying that I love my Cruze. It has had far fewer problems than my Equinox had. It actually gets between 35-45 miles to the gallon (5.9-7.3 L/100km), and the dashboard lights have never lit up as often as the Equinox did (once a month for the two years I owned it). My complaint is about two small things that are beginning to cause me great concern. I have been replacing bulbs in this car every time we change the oil. Have had the pigtail harness replaced, and the entire headlamp assembly replaced once, but it still burns out the high beam.

I drive mostly at dusk and dawn so I need the high beam. I am wondering how many other people out there are having the same issue. I also had the trunk switch assembly replaced twice while under warranty, one I personally replaced myself since I owned it. I would be at work and students would tell me that the trunk was opened. The scariest experience was when I went to the city to go shopping and had the work computer and several other expensive electronic items in the trunk and found it opened when I returned. I would place my key fob on the table in the kitchen, take everyone outside, and watch the trunk open entirely by itself without any way for the key fob to be touched. It even opened four times in a row while at the gas station and the attendant was laughing at it while we watched the key fob sit on the counter and the other attendant tried to repeatedly close the trunk.

A word of advice to all Cruze owners out there: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use the trunk button. Dirt and water get into it and cause a short in the trunk latch. Only use the key fob. If the trunk button quits working, get the assembly and replace it yourself immediately to prevent theft, and for your personal safety. I am a woman and figured out how to do it (my mechanic husband stood by and watched in case I did something wrong). It will save you a lot of heartache and keep you, your family and your belongings safe. I am fortunate to have a husband who fixes vehicles for a living, but there are many people out there who do not have that option.

So far, it has only cost me parts and stress, but I know there are other people having similar issues. I hope the car companies read these comments and realize that they need to start doing more testing before they release these vehicles on the market. They have our safety, our families' safety, and our personal property safety at stake. The car does not matter. These things above all else need to be a priority. I too have had brake, coolant, thermostat, transmission, and water pump problems, but they were fortunately covered under warranty.

And so far they can't fix it. They are telling me it's normal that the cruze smells like that. Come on now GM, you think we are all stupid? Anyways I am going to see a toxicologist to test the air in the cab and will be going to see all media I can find to do something cause GM likes to get away with murder but not this time. So my 2013 cruze smells like poison. They change the clutch already, water pump, heater box, axle shaft. I have a code that says "ac off" due to high temp engine which they cannot find the problem??? Lol they replaced a molding, and my cruze has 24,000 km. Uhmmm!!! I thought I bought a new car?? Lol should've bought a Ford tempo. Would've had a lot less problems. Cruzes are lemons and they poison your family. GM doesn't care but I want to let the public know not to buy a cruze or anything from them.

On February 17th, 2012, I purchased a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze from a local dealership. Unbeknownst to me, by July of 2014, my car would be in two different dealerships on five separate occasions for transmission problems.

March 7th, 2013 (32,512 miles): Customer Complaint: Delay Hesitation when taking off from a stop. Repair: Checked for codes, no transmission code; vehicle reprogrammed with updated software.

September 30th, 2013 (36,623 miles): Customer Complaint: Vehicle towed into dealership. Customer stated when shifted into drive, vehicle does not move, reverse does work, verified with test drive that there was no drive. Repair: Transmission removed, found metal contaminating pistons, TCM failure, transmission reassembled.

October 17th, 2013 (36,967 miles): Customer Complaint: Customer states that vehicle bangs into gear when slowing down or coasting then accelerating. Repair: Technician test drove with customer, verified concern. Hesitation, hard downshift, experienced shudder from stop. Compared to a stock vehicle; same hesitation and hard downshift however does not exhibit acceleration bump from stop. Vehicle Repair (completed 7 days later on October 24th, 2013): Failed TCM and valve body, verified on test drive. Replaced TCM and valve body.

January 23rd, 2014 (mileage unknown, was not provided with work order for this visit): Customer Complaint: Vehicle brought back into shop for hesitation and shuddering. Dealership would not confirm problem after driving vehicle for 15 miles. They were informed at this time that issue is random and not constant. No repairs performed on this visit.

Since being turned away by the original dealership on January 23rd, 2014, I recorded approximately 19 instances of my vehicle either hesitating, chugging when accelerating, banging itself into gear, almost stalling, and the vehicle actually jumping forward while my foot was on the break at stop lights. It was when I almost stalled within a 6-way intersection that I contacted another Chevrolet dealership (July 10th, 2014) for a second opinion. Within two days of leaving my vehicle at the dealership (July 24th, 2014), it was confirmed by the Service Manager that in fact the car was not driving properly. The vehicle is still at the dealership as of today (August 6th, 2014). I have been contacted by the service department who stated they have been directed by GM Technical Assistance to disassemble the transmission (for the third time I believe) and they would get back to me when they knew what to repair or when it is repaired.

I, along with many, many others (as I have read on Chevy forums, Edmunds, consumer review sites, etc.) are stuck in vehicles that are unsafe, unpredictable, and vehicles that we do not have possession of for a good percentage of time each year due to shop time. GM knows these vehicle transmissions are defective but they will NOT do anything to make it right. You are told this is normal, you have to get used to the downshift or that the car has to learn your driving (statements I've been told by service team members). I have owned a Honda Accord, Cadillac CTS and a Nissan Murano; and I have driven a second Honda Accord, Jeep Liberty, Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Impala and a Toyota Rav4. What I am experiencing IS NOT NORMAL!

I have reached the end of my rope with this vehicle; I need my vehicle to be safe and reliable. I value my life and the money I pay each month for my vehicle. I do not qualify for the NYS Lemon Law as I purchased the vehicle with 21,000 miles on it and it now has approximately 46,000. Consumers like myself need help! Who helps those of us stuck in vehicles that we are not safe and/or comfortable driving due to mechanical issues? I have been in contact with GM, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, USDOT Office of Defects and now Consumer Affairs. If all of this doesn't help me, I just hope that it helps someone else, or at least validates another individual's claim that they have made.

I've had the car for about 1500 miles (2014 Chevy Cruze 6 speed manual 2LT). I love it, until I go to back up. One would not think that the reverse gear in their car would be a make it or break it thing, but the reverse in this car is abominable. The only times I've ever stalled this car were in reverse. The sound is gut wrenching, and it's as though the engine is about to blow up in your face. The gear itself can not go up a hill without being halfway on the clutch or going 15 miles per hour. A controlled reverse is impossible. I really can't say enough negative things about it. I feel let down! I have loved Chevy forever! I've always owned a Chevy. My family currently only has Chevys and this is just a real disappointment.

As for the rest of the car I love it, and when I trade this thing in or try to anyways, who knows if the dealership will let me even though I've owned it less than a month. I will miss the gas mileage and the overall car itself. It really is a great car I've had no other problems, but in the future I'm going to blow the clutch on this thing in freaking reverse! It's absurd! I've owned manual cars solely my entire life and some of those had over 200,000 miles. This was a real and total let down. Cars ranging from a 2001 Saturn ls (R.I.P.) to a 2009 z06 Corvette, and I have never encountered this problem before. Pathetic, Shame on you Chevy for ruining a perfectly good vehicle and putting your name on it to boot!

My boyfriend had purchased our 2011 Chevy Cruze just under a year ago, maybe 8 months. We luckily have not had the major problems that others are writing about, but now I'm worried that we will soon! Anyways, there's a lot of quirks about the car that we just cannot stand. Actually, my boyfriend can't stand the car so much now that he chose to switch with me (I have a Chevy Cobalt) because I am more patient with the Cruze. First of all, the acceleration is a big problem. This car cannot manage to go from stopping at a stop sign to driving 25 mph again. I can floor it all I want and nothing happens. It takes about 4-5 seconds of just slow rolling before the car kicks into gear and decides to move.

I have had other drivers beep at me because a light turns green and they think I'm just sitting there but actually, my car won't move. This is a major safety issue because what if there was a situation where I need to move out of the way quickly and my car just... sits there? That worries me a lot. It happens on the highway, too. I can't pass people because I will end up going slower than them. Oh, and going up hills? Forget it!!!! I have to avoid hills as much as possible because the car won't move, which brings me to my next complaint..... for being such a small car it actually rolls backwards A LOT. The old Jeep I had didn't roll half as much as this car. This is a big deal when you live on a tight street in the city.... The car itself is mostly plastic and things keep breaking and scratching. We noticed today that our passenger side mirror has a nice big crack going down the middle of it.

We definitely were not side swiped and we didn't hit anything while driving, so I have no idea what happened. We ended up needing to replace the brakes and rotors right away. They were so shredded that I'm really surprised the dealership sold it to us this way! That shouldn't be legal... A close friend of mine fixed it for me and he said its good I noticed there was something off about the breaks because they would have failed on me any time. The headlights I think should be brighter. Must be a Chevy thing because the headlights absolutely SUCK on the Cobalt. And now I feel like its only a matter of time before I start having the problems everyone else is writing about! The only thing this car has going for it is it's nice looking and has excellent interior. I feel like this is one of those types of purchases that is prettied up so you will buy it but underneath it falls apart. I would not recommend this car.

I bought a 2011 Chevy Cruze from one of the local Carmax dealership. Beautiful car and was loaded with what I wanted except the Chevy My Link touchscreen system and later found out after financing, the My Link wasn't installed until the 2012s came out. No big deal and accepted the idea with the possibility of a later upgrade. I drove my Cruze around for 2 weeks loving it. The handling was awesome and it was fast being equipped with a turbo charger. Loved the gas mileage. During the 2nd week, I noticed a flaw in the windshield where a crock was growing rapidly. So I took into Carmax for repair and had a engine check light come on. While at Carmax, they cleared the code for low coolant, added more coolant which shouldn't have been low in the first place. Drove around town running errands and was on my way home where my Cruze started overheating and went into engine idle mode. Messages all over the OBDC.

Got home and found the cap to the coolant reservoir was Undone and not properly tightened. They sent a mechanic to fix that problem. Then the next morning discovered oil needed serviced and was low. Added oil and started it to cycle the oil but had a hard time starting. It started it then shut it down. That night getting ready to go to work, my Cruze was completely dead and wouldn't turn over with no power whatsoever. Had it towed to Carmax the following Monday and didn't see it for 3 months. Carmax couldn't figure out the power problem and where the coolant was going. They turned the Cruze over to one of the Chevy dealerships where they discovered a cracked head gasket after replacing most of the components under the hood. At that time, they decided to perform a full engine overhaul since it was still under factory warranty.

While waiting for them to finish the overhaul, they had a bearing kit on back order along with head bolts from GM. Took 2 months to get the parts while I had changed jobs, kept up the payments, paid for registration and what have you. Carmax was nice enough to give me a loaner to use, but I was looking at a deadline for a new job out of state. So with the transition of a new job, Carmax wanted to put me in a different car which would have made financing impossible due to being in between jobs. Eventually, they got the parts, delaying my departure, but I got my Cruze back. Drove to Missouri from Vegas with no problems and thought that was the end of the problems. Very wrong! Missouri fell through because of the delay and ended up driving back to Vegas to create a new game plan. In the middle of Colorado, got a battery warning light for awhile and shut the car down in grand junction for awhile. It started up again and continued with the trip home. Once I left Colorado, the same light came on along with a battery charging system needing serviced message on the OBDC.

Stopped in the next town and the Cruze was dead. No power at all and couldn't even get the key out of the ignition. I lifted the battery cover for inspection, then re-seated the cover. Like magic, power restored and proper voltage was displayed on the OBDC. I was able to complete the trip back without further problems and was able to drive my Cruze for a couple weeks afterwards. Now this morning, had to jump start it, drove it throughout the day, then got home having to leave shortly afterwards. My Cruze went dead again either no chance of starting it. Now, once again, I'm having to tow it to Carmax. If I start running into complications once again, I'm very tempted to walk away before I get too deep in financially. I'm find my Cruze to be very undependable, frustrating and costly, granted I haven't had to pay for major maintenance yet. Very upset and angry. Just tempted to park it at Carmax.

Have owned the base model stick shift 2013 Cruze for 13 months and 40,000 miles. The car has performed super. Only two issues:

    1) GM has a technical bulletin re: Starter that they dodged repairs for nearly a year claiming they were "waiting for a new part." After awhile this story got sort of bogus as they sell this car every day and what about resale value-- so where is the "new part" to replace a Starter whose flywheel sounds like a firecracker when restarted once warm? ---- Answer-- the alternative job is a huskier starter, a huskier fuse box to accommodate the starter and getting your car in before the wave of Cobalts with ignition problems -- typical old GM-- our bladders can outlast anyone at the table.

    2) In resolving above, the Dealership was kind enough to discover that a few parts of our Cruze had part numbers for export (maybe Canada?) like that's why these airhoses keep disconnecting? Thank you Dealership for having a qualified mechanic who checks things like that.

Still, for the money -- a great car for highway miles. Considering the other family car is a GM/Oppel/SAAB monster-- I have no complaints.

Keys on fob (5) and some coins in pocket must be responsible. Dealer says they can do nothing and gmprioritycare.com says they can do nothing and claim I am the first case they heard of (June 9, 2014). I asked them to re-program the fob receiver module for a more improbable pressing (say 3x in 3 sec.) and they said they cannot. The dealer said to take the battery out (I did).

If car is parked and I want to get something out of the front passenger door (no place for key) I have to first unlock driver door and press unlock button on dash then go back to passenger door and remove items then go back to and sit in driver seat and press lock button on dash (with door closed) then open door handle twice and then lock door with key (otherwise horn blows every time you unlock car next time). Same procedure to get something out of back seat or trunk if car is sitting already locked. This is crazy. Until many more people report this to GM they will do nothing (I was told by GM). (The trunk also does not have a key entry for those that may not know). This whole thing is not very convenient.

I'm writing this words to express my total disappointment and frustration for my mistake buying this car. I was a happy owner of a Chevy Cruze LT bought in 2013. Not anymore. After only two months, I started to have a bad noise (grinding noise) coming from the rear brakes when using the brakes. In the same time, one of the back doors started to give me problems at opening and closing. After another few months, I started to have a noise coming from the steering wheel when turning left and right and in the same time a vibration in the gas pedal. Being at the Dealership for the problem with the steering wheel, I asked them to check the ignition switch because I had problems every time when I had to insert the key to start the car. And this problem, I had it since I bought the car. Once I got stuck in a parking lot. I had to get out, from the car, and to start the car from the remote starter. Glad I had that.

A mechanic came to check, and playing with the key and the steering wheel, he blocked the steering wheel. He couldn't even take out the key. They had to replace the ignition switch. Sounds familiar, this problem? After another few months, I went for tires change and I found out there is another problem with my car. Recall for the front axle half shaft. They said I have to wait a month to have fixed this problem. Right now, when I'm writing this, I have already SEVEN (7) weeks! This is my experience with this car. Having all this problems in less than a year, I can't stop thinking what's happening next. For GM, all these problems mean nothing. After all, they offer warranty, isn't? In their opinion, if you buy a new car and every few months you visiting the Dealer for repairs, seems to be very normal. Because of this 'NORMALITY', I'll stay away from GM in the future. I wish good luck to everybody who bought already this car, and to the others, check somewhere else. All the best!

First, the chrome finish on the door handles started to peel and cut my hand. I had both front handles replaced. Then the steering wheel cover started to come off and I had that replaced as well along with the driver side visor. A few months later I took the car in because it was very jerky and sometimes dies while driving it but they told me nothing was wrong; six months later a sensor had to be replaced. At that time I told them a chemical smell was coming through my heating vents and that I had an infant and was afraid that the smell would harm her. They didn't even put that on the service ticket.

Two months after that my catalytic converter had to be replaced. Two weeks later I again took it to the dealership for the chemical smell. I was told that the smell was probably from the converter being replaced. When I explained that I had already mentioned this prior to the converter being installed, they just repeated that it was probably from the converter installation. The smell still comes through when the heat is one but I see no need in taking it back up there since they act as if I'm a dumb woman.

Now my trunk latch doesn't work, my remote starter doesn't work either, the console lid is peeling but I'm 400 miles outside of my warranty. The car is going back into the service station tomorrow because the check engine light is on and diagnostic says it's another sensor. I called GM to see if they could help by letting me trade it in; they directed me back to the dealership which told me that because I paid full cash and have no credit, I can't be financed. Again when in the dealer maintenance they could not duplicate. I drove out and the bang happened again. I'll give them another chance to find and fix this problem. Since I lease the car I may return it and get a different make. I had a Saturn and no problems. Sorry I traded it in.

I bought my car in May of 2013. It has a knock at start up. I've been saying something since my first oil change. Every time it was like starting over. Had to explain everything again and again. In September the dealership gave me a bulletin stating for them not to try and replace parts yet because it would not be a long term fix. So once again I go home and try to be patient. So I take my car to the dealer once again for normal service and a minor issue with a seat this time. I am not so understanding. I push the issue a little harder about the knock because my car has 19 plus k miles on it. My bumper to bumper will be up soon and I'm not responsible for this problem.

This time they had a number to call GM and complain, so I do. They give me a customer care person at the dealership. What a joke. So basically GM handed back to the dealer, so they keep my car two days. I go back to get it and get another bulletin. This time it says all the same thing except at the bottom it states they now have to redesign parts - no timeline of when any of this may happen. So I'm very unhappy. I complain to GM again And the dealership. I tell them to just get me in another car. So sure they will do that with me taking the crappy end of it all. This was my first and last new car at least from GM.

In November of 2010 we purchased a 2011 Cruze brand new right off the lot. We have followed every recall, taken care of the car and followed Chevy's policy for maintenance as best we can. Starting at the end of last year we had to replace the battery which died without warning! Well I went to my car after work to meet with friends and they drove and when I went to drive home the battery was dead. However starting last week the check engine light has come on and is not going off. Now the traction light is on and will not go off, the message for StabiliTrak is coming on and off. I am reading multiple sites and see this message listed and I have seen Chevy messages stating unknown cause.

I used to love my Cruze but in the last 6 months it is getting less and less so.

I purchased my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze in April 2012. It had 28,000 km on it and had several problems from the start with transmission and was told from the dealership Belisle that they run like that. There was also a smell from the motor and was told that was normal too - maybe the windshield washer when pouring splashed. Then in December 2012 Belisle dealership closed so I had to bring my vehicle to Surgenor. January 2013 the battery needed to be changed on my Cruze. The gears had trouble shifting. The transmission was still slipping. There was still a burning smell so I took it to another mechanic and was told the transmission was leaking. I took it to Surgenor and was told it was fine.

I went for an oil change by another mechanic in January 2014 and was told again there was a leak in the transmission. I had it repaired at Surgenor but only part was covered under warranty; the rest came out of my pocket. Then February 20, 2014 my Cruze engine lights came on - one with a picture of the engine, the second with a picture of the engine with a wrench, and the third with a picture of the engine with an arrow plus a Code 84. I had my vehicle towed to Surgenor at 3 pm. I was with my Mother and my son. The mechanic ** came to us at 5 pm and said there was nothing wrong and if it did it again to come back.

On February 21, 2014 I spoke with ** GM of Surgenor and I explained my history with the car. He advised me to meet with ** and ** on Saturday February 22, 2014 on a purchase of another car. My experience with Surgenor dealership and General Motors was a total waste of time. They offered to give me $7,000 for my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and I owe $17,000, then offered me a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze with payments of $580 a month for 7 yrs. I currently pay 398.08 for my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and I still have 5 years. I am not satisfied with the service with Surgenor and GM.

My Chevrolet Cruze did it again, plus the gears had trouble shifting so I took it back to Surgenor on February 27th. They lent me another car until they found the problem. ** of Surgenor contacted me and said it was the UBec wire the power to computer fuse box, a cost of $800. I asked if I can call GM so was given 1800-263-3777 and spoke with Katherine ** and was told 3 weeks later there is nothing she can do. I am still not convince that there is nothing anyone can do anything for me. I purchased a LEMON and yes I am a woman but this is not my first car and from the very beginning I said there was a problem with my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and no one has a solution!

The problem is that I keep having one mechanical problem after another with the car and it always costs me time and money. My car has been to the shop four times in the last two years.

Recently had to have the transmission replaced because of some problem, the Chevy reportedly already knew about. But as soon as I got the car back, I found it to have a major oil leak. Took it back and they claimed it was a hose issue and that something else was wrong that needed a part. Was told it was ok to drive and three days later, the car started having transmission problems again. The engine kept dying and the car would lurch when I tried to change gears.

It has been back in the shop all afternoon and they still have not told me what the problem is. The service guy at the shop (Kathy ** in Lakeport, CA) told me that the mileage I have on my car is "really high" for only having it two years and tried to make it seem like that was the problem. I only have 60,000 miles and the car has been in FOUR TIMES!! What is going to happen once the warranty is over?? Tired of dealing with - I am getting rid of it and buying a Toyota.

This went on for a while until I almost had an accident! I pulled out of the office parking lot onto a highway and the Cruze would not accelerate. It's been to the garage but it's been a constant barrage of problems. I had no heat in -35 temps. Had to have a new thermostat, water pump, the driver's side window broke (motor in the door), brake issue, recalls-I mean REALLY?? I've had used cars with fewer issues. If the arbitration isn't necessarily your final step, seek for a new hearing: state that this car sells primarily because of its purported mpg, and that you are not about to lie to get a better price when you sell. I wonder about the honesty of the arbitrator- his/her response is ridiculous. Nobody would buy a Cruze if it weren't for expecting excellent gas mileage. Again, utter nonsense. I was about to buy a Cruze but I have read enough from different website sources/reviews to know better. Your review and others on this site were the catalyst in my decision. I am going to look carefully at any contract when it comes to lawsuits/arbitration: can I pick the arbitrator - is a lawsuit possible -

One note re mpg, however: I did see someone saying here that the mpg seemed to be steady (around 24mpg) from the time of sale throughout over 45k miles and that shouldn't be the case. It is to be expected that the mpg should be much lower while the car is being broken in, but certainly it should improve over time (unless someone is consistently driving very fast, of course). I wish all here the very best, and am grateful for your input here - you will have most likely saved a lot of people some very real grief.

    - 20,000/- km: My car is flooded with water under the non-driving side front and the rear seats (I was told that, it was some leakage from a/c). This was cleared and corrected at the service).

It's been understood from the history that the A/C in my vehicle had some complaint from the beginning itself. It's a personal used vehicle and I have never had any accidents so far. Every time the service guys just attended the case, they never identified the actual cause of the trouble and now when the warranty period is over, they say it's all over and I have to replace paying Rs. 36,000/-.

Today at the 60,000/- km service I am paying Rs. 24,000/- for the following... Any way I believe in the theory, "prevention better than cure".

But what happened to my A/C? Did I not take any prevention? I am badly disturbed and GM motors Nettoor says "We are not responsible either." I liked the car really well and I enjoy driving the cruise, but services are expensive and service has been pathetic. Only thing they reassure was to give me a call after my service and remind me in advance to mark 10 out of 10 points if at all a service customer care cross check on the satisfaction. Even though I like the car, VALUE & RELIABILITY is lost and so the PERFORMANCE value shouldn't influence the overall satisfaction, Hence will Rank "ANGRY."

I purchased a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze LTZ in October 2012 with 14,993 miles. The Carfax paperwork showed the car as having one original owner. In February 2013, I had to replace the battery. On March 27 I discovered the air conditioner was not working properly. It was blowing but would not get cold. On April 7 the car started running hot. I took the car back to the dealership where I bought it from (Kia dealership). After checking the car, the service manager told me the water pump was leaking and due to the car having only 28,895 miles, it was still covered under manufacturer warranty. I took the car to the Chevy dealership close to my home (Chuck Fairbanks Chevrolet). I explained to the service manager Jeff what was going on with my car.

Jeff informed me, after having his guys check my car, that the water pump and thermostat needed to be replaced and that would be covered under warranty. He went on to explain that he would need to keep my car until the next day because it was too late to start work on my car that day, and they would not be able to check the AC until after replacing the water pump and thermostat. He also mentioned that if a rock or something had hit the condenser, that the warranty would not cover it. He also mentioned because the car was under warranty, I could get a loaner car. But he went through a rental car company and I would have to put a $50 deposit on the car. I declined the rental car because I did not think I would be without my car that long.

Well, to try to make a long story short, the next day I was informed by Jeff that a rock had hit my condenser and that is why my AC was not working properly. He also stated while laughing that he knows it may sound funny because he had just threw that idea out there the day before. It was because he had seen the same problem about a week ago when someone else brought their Cruze in for the same problem. I asked, "If this has happened before, do you think that would be a manufacturer problem?" Jeff explained to me that the condenser was right behind the bumper. My question to GMC is if the warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles bumper to bumper, whichever comes first, then why would it not be covered?

By the way, the three years are not up until sometime in May according to the person when I called the customer service center. I was assigned a service request number and referred to a district person. My district person (Angel) took a few days to contact me. When I missed her call and tried to call back, I could never reach her. I picked up my car one week later after dropping it off at the dealership. I paid $432.22 for having my condenser repaired, not replaced. Angel called me a week later and informed me that General Motors will not reimburse me. She could offer me a maintenance coupon for $100. I expressed that I was not satisfied because that coupon was really no help to me after paying $432.22.

I stressed that if it was that easy for a rock to hit the condenser, it could easily happen again. Angel stated that the dealership had put a cradle under to protect the condenser from it happening again. When I picked the car up from the dealership, Jeff did not say anything about a cradle being put in place to protect the condenser. The coupon is good for a year, but for any future service. Really? I was not a Chevy customer until after I rented a Chevy Cruze while on vacation and fell in love with the gas mileage and the car itself. I will not buy another Chevrolet product and will keep pushing for a recall on this problem. If I was the second person with this problem coming to the same dealership, I know there are/will be others.

The service people told me that this has been an ongoing problem with this car and that you, General Motors, do not have a fix for this problem; that you have no idea when you will decide what to do with the problem. I asked the service guy if that means I shouldn’t bother bringing it in then. He said no because we can’t fix it. I asked if it was a safety issue, and he said no, just an annoyance issue.

This is the second time I have had issues with this car. One week after I bought it, it only had 300 miles on it, and the check engine light came on. I did take it to Laria, and they said it was the cooling fan. They did nothing but reset the light and so far, it has not done it again.

I am not very happy with you, General Motors, right now. I thought I would give you a chance after years of driving Toyota's and Honda's. After 3,000 miles in this Chevy Cruze, I will never buy another General Motors vehicle again. I will be going back to Honda or Toyota. I took my case to NY lemon law court and lost. GM's claim to fame was, "You must use Mobile One gas" and using the gas additive listed in their vehicle manual wasn't good enough if you want to use another company's gasoline. The sticker gas mileage figures are from the EPA, not GM. Although the arbitrator got in the car and saw gas mileage, reading on the car computer said the car was getting 10MPG. I could not show how that devalues the value of the car even though he stated I proved my low mileage case.

Good luck to all who'll buy this car. People don't realize that you have to do a mileage check every time you gas up to see the real gas mileage. Don't look at the computer. Mine sometimes says I'm getting 99MPG for long stretches on the highway but in the end, I'm getting 24MPG.

The car would not engage from the stop position to acceleration & poor gas mileage since the 2-10 repair, caused it to roll into intersection. The control solenoid valve & the transmission control module were replaced, could not duplicate gas mileage problem.

On 4-25-12, it was brought into the dealership for loud popping & jolting into gear from the stop position to acceleration. The dealership could not duplicate - no repair. On 5-5-12, at 17661 mileage, the car was towed to dealership. I was driving on highway at 65mph, had a burning smell coming through a/c vents. The transmission was hot (overheated). Traction control & Stabilitrak light appeared. Dealership could not duplicate, no repair (opened case with GM **). On 5-18-12, at 18165 mileage, the car was towed to dealership. I was driving on highway at 65 mph, had burning smell coming through a/c vents. The transmission was hot (overheated). Traction control & Stabilitrak light & transmission light appeared plus continued poor gas mileage since 2-12 fix. The transmission control module was replaced (again). On 6-6-12, at 18800 mileage, it was brought to dealership (currently there). The transmission light appeared upon starting the engine after sitting for 8 hours.

From the time I first test drove and bought a new Chevrolet Cruze, GM changed the owner's manual to where my new car could not be towed behind my motorhome. GM changed flat towing capabilities. This was the reason I decided to purchase this model. I never heard an announcement and GM doesn't want to talk about it.

On 2/4/12 at 5pm, my Chevy Cruze caught fire at the engine compartment causing a total loss of the car. One week prior, we just had an oil change at Northshore Chevrolet in Smithtown, NY. After the incident, I did some quick research and I'm not the only one this problem has happened to. GM needs to look into and address this problem before someone gets seriously injured.

There was an issue in my car, a Chevrolet Cruze. First of all, I went to UMA for just a normal service of 50,000 km with no remarks. Then I took my car from them. Having a problem with the gear, I could not move the car. I returned the car to them, and they did gave me a satisfied answer why they caused a trouble to my car during the maintenance.

The car is with them for about one week now, and they didn't provide me another car since it is their fault. So what I need and expect from your respectable side is to take an immediate action with UMA company to provide me with another car instead. The car now is in the Service Center.

There was an issue in my car, a Chevrolet Cruze, which lead to a fire in the Car Motor which considered as a total loss and this issue is a leaking in the power steering box (Oil Lack). I went to Mansour service center to check this issue more than once but they did not solve the issue and i have all my documents which prove that I flagged this issue more than once. Now, I lost all my trust in this car as this might happen again which lead to a danger on me & my family life. So what I need and expect from your respectable side to take an immediate action with Al Mansour company to provide me with a new car instead of the burned one as it will be impossible to return the car to its original status which will decrease its market value; noting that I bought this car 10 months ago only and it was used for 21000 km only. The car now is in the Service center and this is the work order number: ***
