For anyone having issues with steering, radio, brake and light glitches. There is a defective ground wire which is difficult to detect. From my understanding there was a factory recall, at least that was what my dealership informed me, but was not informed of the problem until the problem occurred. It was scary because everything would rapidly turn off and on. They replaced the ground wire and I haven’t had any problems with it again. Good Luck!

I am at 186,000 on my 2014 Cruze. Gas mileage is still high to mid 30's. I can always count on 550 to 600 miles on a tank full of gas. I use pure synthetic oil and it runs like a top. Lots of leg room in the front seats and I am amazed at how much stuff I can get into the car. No rust on it and I will always think about buying another one.

I loved my car till I saw how the clear coat on the roof and hood was bubbling... Certain places around the car showed signs of it but that got blown off. The dealer sent it to the paint shop they used, they painted the roof and hid, was supposed to be entire car but was not... so get the car back and paint job was horrible... Now they want to redo it through same paint shop. I took it on my own to a very reliable shop and they did they wouldn't touch it because they didn't want to compromise it any further... Now what do I do?

Bought my 2014 Cruze a little over a year ago and I will never buy another one. Radio turns on and off on its own. When this happens I lose my brake lights. My turn signals and steering is odd. I no longer feel safe and still have years to pay. This should be a recall but GM doesn't care about the lives they are putting at risk. Absolutely pathetic...

I’ve spent so much money on fixing this car. I promise do not buy this car. You will have to replace everything.

I would like to know what you're thinking was marketing this product. I saw no advertising you had a product in the first place. If you want to target the VW diesel customers a manual has to be offered, period. Customers of diesel cars, which I am one, think independently, we think of ourselves as members of the world and as you know most cars have manual transmissions. This is a special product and it should have been sold that way.

I was going to order a 2019 from a dealer locally and was told the manual was not offered but they would try to locate a 2018. They said they would locate one of which they did, but the dealer who had the car wouldn't do a trade. The local dealer gave me a test drive of the automatic Cruze Diesel they had on the lot and I was not impressed. I asked my local dealer if they would give me the dealers name where the car was that they located, they refused so I ended calling dealers up to 750 miles away and finally located the car and bought it. After having it for a week, I feel it is the best car I have ever owned so far. I want to buy more for my employees. Is there any way you could reconsider offering the manual in the USA. If not could you at least offer a European Delivery for this product.

This has to be the worst vehicle I have ever experience in my 55 year life. It all started when I went with my daughter to help her buy her First car in September 2014. We went to several dealerships and looked at almost a dozen vehicles until she finally decided to buy a 2012 Chevy Cruze LTZ with just over 55,000 miles on it for $15,300 ($20,232 after financing). After checking all the reviews and ratings online I gave her my blessing and the deed was done. Then, the nightmare began...

It took nearly TWO YEARS to get a second key from the dealer; No biggie one might think. While waiting for the second key, we were in a constant battle with the dealer about the tires constantly losing air pressure and got every excuse in the book. They claim they replaced the TPS sensors twice, and still the system was constantly saying the tires were low about every two months. Additionally, she complained (and I witnessed) a constant coolant smell but no apparent leaks... dealer found nothing.

In September 2015 the "Stabilitrak" and "Traction" lights came on and the radio was shutting off. This was attributed to the now infamous "Negative Battery Cable" TSB and they also reprogrammed the ECM due to another TSB at that time, thankfully under warranty. In April 2016, with the coolant smell still not solved we actually finally found a coolant leak at the weep hole on the water pump and took it back to the dealer. The dealer said it wasn't covered and we had to pay until our personal mechanic found a TSB (G 208432) about the KNOWN problem and after presenting the dealership with the TSB, they acquiesced and performed the replacement at no charge.

In early September 2016, my daughter pulled up in front of our house and as she got out of the car, heard a loud "whoosh" sound. I was on the front porch and heard the sound also. Upon inspection, her passenger side rear tire was flat. I helped her to change the tire and what I found horrified me. There was no nails or holes in the tire, but the entire inner (car side) of the tire was dry rotted and had simple blown out a six inch gash in the sidewall of the tire. Closer inspection revealed that all four tires were dry rotted, but only on the car body side of the tires. The dealership had never even mentioned this on any of the many visits we made when complaining of the "Low Tire" issue over two years.

The car had 55,010 miles on it when purchased in September 2014 and at the time of this failure, not quite two years later only had 61,957 miles on it. When my daughter had bought the "CERTIFIED" used car in 2014 we were told it came with "Tires for Life" by the dealer, so we put the spare on and I drove it back to the dealer and explained what happened. The Service Manager told me that "Tires for Life" didn't cover dry rot, it was considered a manufacturer issue. I went to the Sales Manager we had bought the car from and he had a discussion with the Service Manager and she got four new tires, no cost.

(For the record, my second daughter also bought her first car at the same dealer, a Chevy HHR, and about six months after this incident she had a catastrophic blowout. Three quarters of the tread surface separated from the body of the tire. She also had "Tires for Life" but the dealership would not replace her tire/tires, again saying it was a "Manufacturers defect" and the Sales Manager was no longer working there.)

Moving forward to Winter 2017, and the Chevy Cruze is now leaking oil, but it is not clear where. It's not much at first and we honestly just thought that the Jiffy Lube had spilled some oil while doing her oil change. Honestly we had thought it had stopped over the winter of 2017/18 but, in the April 2018 it was back. We took it back to where my daughter had the oil changed and they said that the gasket on the oil drain plug was bad and replaced it and all seemed well.

In late June my wife and I used the car to take a 200 mile trip. (My daughter enlisted in the Army in November 2017 and had been in training from Nov. 2017 through late May 2018. In July she was sent to her first assignment in South Korea, so we had been occasionally using her car to keep everything from seizing up.) On our way home, the check engine light came on and the AC stopped working, but there was no other indicators from the car as to what was going on. We pulled over and I checked under the hood and the Coolant level in the reservoir was quite low and there was the old familiar coolant smell from under the hood, but no apparent source for the leak or steam. We drove carefully for about 2 miles and got coolant and refilled the reservoir, but the engine light was still on.

I checked the oil and it was about a 1/2 quart low, so I topped that off also (I had checked before our trip and both levels were good!) but the check engine light would not go off. As we were only about twelve miles from home and the car wasn't running rough or smoking I carefully drove back roads until we got it home. I took it to my mechanic on Monday and right away he found the coolant leak in the plastic connector on the overflow return, a pinhole leak that shot a fine stream of coolant straight down on the ground when the car had heated up (Yet another very common Cruze problem). He then plugged in his OBD II reader and the code that came back with a turbocharger issue (you guessed it, the infamous cracked turbocharger problem)... $1994 later, and now we just wait to see what the next in the long list of known Chevy Cruze issues we get to enjoy next.

Oh, I almost forgot. My daughter informed me that we also have the "Water leaking into passenger side front floor from rain/snow through the AC hose through the firewall PI-1302" when I told her during video chat about the Turbocharger problem and the coolant leak. So add that to our "been there, experienced that one" list of the myriad KNOWN problems with the 2012 Chevy Cruze. I've spent way too much of my retired life the past week or so searching the net and finding out just how unreliable and problem-ridden the early Cruzes are. It's so bad that most Car repair sites and forums refer to the 2011 through 2015 Cruzes as "Generation 1" and 2016 and on as "Generation 2". So apparently the newer ones are not "as" bad, but again all you have to do is look on Cruze forums and find out they're still having issues.

Overall, I feel horrible for allowing my daughter to buy this car. There are over 1900 TSB's on the 2012 Cruze alone, and it is rated on one site as the second worst car to by, behind the 2011 Cruze! My daughter is deployed to South Korea for a year and as soon as she gets back, I will be taking her out to find another car, before one of the other known nightmares occur. Trust me, it will not be a Chevrolet product. And for the record, I will also never buy another vehicle... used, certified or whatever, from Jerry's Chevrolet, 1940 East Joppa Road, Baltimore, MD 21234. Two vehicles for my two daughters bought within two months, and both had crappy tires that literally could have killed my daughters, no courtesy, ignorant and very lucky I'm not a younger man. Hand down the worst dealership I have ever dealt with.

It's been replaced but new one does same thing and two dealerships can't seem to figure it out. Was locked out regularly or car wouldn't start (this is the keyless entry). Car back in shop again because a bar needs to be replaced. It takes days for them to figure things out. Lease a car should be problem free. This car purchase is like a used car. Twice while driving, my 2016 Chevy Cruze has gotten stuck at 3-4 rpms and when you hit the breaks the car won't stop it starts bucking forward fighting against me pressing as hard as I can on the brake pedal. Luckily I came up to a red light and was able to throw my car in park and shut it off. I waited a few seconds and turned it back on and it was back to normal after hearing a loud clunk from under my hood. Both times it's happened there was no shoulder to pull off on.

The first time it happened I panicked and didn't know what to do and it almost caused me to go out into traffic. I took it to the dealership they said nothing's wrong and they couldn't recreate it. Here I am 7 months later and it just did it again. I figured I should write a review to warn others and to see if this has happened to anyone else. It's very scary. Up until my car did this I was very satisfied with my car. Though that's not saying much because I used to drive a Nissan Sentra which is total crap.

Let's preface this by saying that I have always been a very loyal Chevrolet customer. Growing up I talked my dad into buying a 2000 Silverado 1500, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD, and also a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD. A few of the cars I have owned have been a 1993 Chevrolet S10, 2002 Chevrolet Impala, 1989 Chevrolet Corvette, 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. So we have been quite loyal to Chevy.

In 2014 I decided to buy a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze as a new reliable daily driver to get to and from work. It now has 66000 miles on it and I have had more problems than I can count with it. But this one problem is pushing me over the edge and Chevrolet's lack of support is appalling. Recently the Passenger Seatbelt has stopped latching. The Buckle fell apart! This is a SAFETY ITEM and both GM customer service and the Chevrolet Dealer refused to replace it because the car is outside of warranty. I don't care what the warranty is. ANY SAFETY item should not fail after 60000 miles... Especially the Passenger side considering it has very few cycles on it...

As far as I am concerned this very easily could be a full blown RECALL. If I were to drive get into an accident with a passenger in the car before I realized it was broken it would 100% be on GM. And the fact I brought it to their attention and they were not at all surprised and refused to help me out just makes me wonder how many more of these safety issues they are aware of and covering up... Think "Ignition Switch"... This is only one of the many issues I have had with this car already.

A few of the other ones include a front valance that the dealership can't get to stay attached without flapping. No I don't drive it into curbs and I take great care of this car. This was a problem from Day 1 with 50 miles on the car. At 35000 miles the leather on the steering wheel started cracking. Luckily this was replaced under warranty. 43000 miles the ignition coil went bad and they refused to replace it because it is not covered under powertrain warranty. And at 50000 miles the driver side window holder snapped and dropped the window from half way up.

Luckily it didn't shatter but did render the window unusable for multiple days until I got it fixed. Again they refused to cover it because it was out of warranty. There have been others that I have missed but these are the major problems so far. Needless to say I was in the market for a new 1 ton diesel truck in the near future and I can say there is a very strong chance that it will not be a Chevrolet after this. My loyalty has worn off.

I purchased a 2017 Cruze RS hatchback brand new, in fact this was my first car to purchase ever. I wish someone would have told me this was going to be the worst decision I could ever make! At 6000 miles my car started to drive somewhat rough, started noticing my fuel mileage change. At 6300 miles my car went into the shop for the first time. I explained to them that it was jerking bad, my fuel mileage had dropped to about 25mpg, and I sometimes smelt an odd smell through a/c vents. After 4 days they couldn’t get it to “replicate” so they told me to bring it back if I had any more issues. Moving forward a month, the smell had started to happen often... It’s like burnt rubber, clutch burning mixed with boiling antifreeze smell. I was down to an average of about 20mpg, I was losing power and often didn’t have any boost.

Once again I was told they can’t “replicate” the issue and without a code they can’t fix what isn’t wrong. Moving forward at 7400 miles it goes back into the shop because this time it has no power while getting on the highway, my kiddo got sick from the smell while sitting in traffic and now I’m getting about 15mpg... Not to mention it’s still shifting hard and making a knock sound every now and then. If I tried to remote start my car it would unlock not lock nor start and then finally the key fobs had me locked out of my car because they altogether stopped working. So they informed me that there was an issue with key fobs, they fixed that, they told me that clearly there is an issue with my car but without a code they can’t fix it because the dealership will not get paid for the work.

I was told to keep driving my car until the problem got worse. I was completely shocked by that statement, I drive a road every day that I can’t pull over if something happens. It’s 15 miles of 2 way county road. We have contacted GM but of course we haven’t heard back from anyone, the dealership has finally felt something when going about 50 mph but again without a code they have nothing to fix! I remember a time not to long ago that cars were repaired without computers and customer service existed. The dealership told me that I could contact GM but that they wouldn’t. I get that there are systems in place and orders to follow but clearly something needs to happen!

I’m disgusted and beside myself that I own a car with less than 10,000 miles and it is having so many issues and the only excuse I get is, "There isn’t a code so we can’t fix it." The safety of my family and I has been avoided and conversation that nobody wants to have with me. Any advice would be very appreciated, I’m really at a loss and have no idea what to do. I owe to much to trade it in, but I’m getting to the point where taking a loss might be my only option. Please help!

Updated on 10/13/2018: I was told that I pretty much just have to deal with these issues... I can’t trade the car in because I would take a huge hit but now the auto stop/start has stopped working. This has happened 3 different times in the last 6 hours today, trying to pull out of parking lot at grocery store, at the red light and when I was trying to move in stop and go traffic. Because there is no check engine light the dealership can’t tell me what’s wrong because they don’t know where to start???

My advice to anyone thinking about purchasing a Chevy Cruze, DONT!!! This has got to be the biggest piece of garbage vehicle on the roads and GM does not care about the issues at all! The dealership has told us that there are major issues with these cars and GM is very aware but they are turning a blind eye to these issues. I'm sure they will be singing a different tune when someone gets hurt or worse killed. GM has become a joke, they cripple their dealerships and customer service is at the bottom of importance!

Have a 2014 Chevy Cruze LTZ RS. Bought it used with 21,000 miles on it. I haven’t even opened it. Two years I’ve already had to replace my PCV valve nine times, my turbo three times, I’ve had to replace my purge valve, my negative battery terminal which was on recall. The car has no power to it. Has a hard shift loud. Luckily I have an extended warranty but a lot of the stuff is not covered underneath it so I’ve spent probably about $20,000 fixing it in less than two years. I wasn't sure what car exactly I wanted when I went shopping, but as soon as I sat down in the Cruze, I knew it was going to end up being my car. I like the size of the vehicle, and how it makes me feel when I sit inside of it. The overall look of the car is what really caught my eye. I really like the look of sporty cars, but they were really far out of my budget.

I really enjoy that the car lets me plug in my phone (at the time it was my iPod). This then allows me to pull up something like Pandora and play my own music. The acoustics were also very nice throughout. In my last car, I could never really be happy with the sound quality. I like how the car makes me feel when I drive, but I know that there is not a lot of room in the backseat for my passengers. Also, I know that it isn't the safest putting a car seat back there for children. If I was redesigning the model, I would give it a little but more room back there.

Had taken it to to well known good shop and paid 100 for a diagnostic and they only found the water pump is out but Chevy would not hold up to their warranty because it wasn't a GM certified dealer. So got a hold of Chevy. They said for them to cover it had to go to a GM certified dealer and I explained that I do not trust their dealer in Minot, ND. They would not give in so called the dealer and they could not get it in for a week. I did not drive the car. It sat in my driveway and now all of a sudden they said that the radiator is leaking as well. That is not covered in the warranty and will cost over 600. Once it's out of the shop I am trading it in and never buying a Chevy again. Learned my lesson the hard way.

I also wish it came standard with wheels and tint on windows, the center console needs to be a little bigger and the cup holders bigger. Other than that I have no complaints. Took my 2013 Chevy Cruze to the dealership, for my drive assist feature that was no longer working (side mirror light for assistance), and for an incident of driving down interstate at 70 mph, and having all the electrical inside the vehicle go black! I had no idea how fast I was even going!!! The service man said that the modules for those are completely corroded, and needed replaced, and what caused the blackout in my car! So that came to $1104! I also had another incident of backing out of a parking space and my driveway, when I went to brake, the brake was hard and I could not stop right away! There is a recall for the brake vacuum pump for the 2011-2012, for the EXACT same issue with my car (2013), but no recall for mine! This cost, $460! So I am almost at $1700 on a vehicle that is 5 years old, that I just paid off!!

I called Chevrolet, but customers do not matter, they would not help me at all with anything! What happened to keep the customer happy? WHY are you putting electric modules behind wheel wells, unprotected?? I’m not an engineer, but the trunk seems the logical place?? Why should I have to pay $1104 for you, Chevy, for failing to make a dependable/reliable car that can last more than 5 years WITHOUT major repairs?? I am scared to drive this vehicle, it is NOT SAFE, and CHEVY is putting my family’s life and other families in danger! Do what’s right Chevy, and make these recalls! I am so disappointed, disappointed enough to start looking for a vehicle I can rely on. This was a car I was proud of, and took care of, not anymore. And I will make sure that anyone and everyone I know, doesn’t make the same mistake I did!

I like that my car warms up quickly, I get good gas mileage, and it has Bluetooth hands free talking and that I can connect my phone to listen to my music instead of the radio. And I chose this car because it was within my price range and it's good but it's not really up to my standards. I dislike the color. It's an ugly grayish that I've grown tired of. It gets great gas mileage which was a very important factor when I bought it. It is a nice, comfortable ride. I wanted a small car that was easy to travel in but large enough for our family of five. I love the size of the trunk. I am able to fit all of my groceries or anything we need for sports etc. The trunk is a good size compared to most cars although the back seat is not quite as roomy as I wish. I have three kids and they barely all fit in the backseat when we had car seats. And as they grown leg space has been a problem. Also, there is no cruise control. And I wish there were some better radio features such as a station scan. It seems petty but it is something I always used in other cars.

Nevertheless, I chose the Chevy Cruze for dependability and it was a fair price. It's a reliable car that we knew we could trust. We have not had to make any repairs since we've purchased it three years ago so it has been a great value. We tend to prefer Chevrolet over other car brands to support local plants. I value American products more, although not all components are made in the States I'm sure. I prefer to be more practical when purchasing a car and I have enjoyed the Chevy Cruz thus far.

Everybody seems to love this car! This Chevrolet Cruze has been a fun car and looks sporty! I bought this car for my son so he could drive it to school. It is safe and easy to drive. The best feature is a safety feature which is the warning system alarm for changing lanes. I also like it a lot because it has a hatchback which is convenient for hauling my son's guitar. We also love its beautiful red color. Another neat feature is that you can start the car remotely, which is nice in winter. It has heated seats which my son likes for added warmth in winter. I wish it had a sunroof and that it had been available in different color upholstery other than black. You could get those things in the next step up, but it was an added cost. But so far so good!

I like the sleek design which I've been able to customize very easily. I really like the 12 gallon tank which is only around 20-25 dollars to fill and the car gets 30 city, 45-50 hwy miles per gallon with a manual trans and eco model. Also when it runs properly the turbo whistle is never disappointing! However, I've had many issues with the car (2012 Chevy Cruze). It's at 120,000 miles and I've replaced the trans, clutch, all the coolant pieces from the reservoir, clutch pulley seal, serpentine belt, PCV hose, 4 valve covers, temp coolant sensors, and I need to do my leaking oil cooler. Basically it falls apart real quick. I would like less plastic parts and longer lasting gaskets. With that being said the aluminum parts I keep damaging as well because they aren't strong. I don't mind paying more if it gets me a better product but this replacing 4 plastic valve covers is ridiculous. I just want some durable parts I don't have to change every year.

As some others mentioned, I got a blind spot INSIDE the car, because the door pillar blocks my view to the left and the mirror doesn't show anything. I can't see a damn thing and I almost got into accidents, because there is a perfect spot for an entire car to hide right next to you, you won't see it, unless you bob around with your head over your shoulder and you gotta do this constantly, like every 5 minutes, even if you aren't changing lanes.

Poor acceleration, poor manual transmission, bad clutch, unreliable car. You have to pray to be cool outside, because once you turn on the AC, you wish you could stick your legs out Flintstone style to give it a push to get anywhere. It has a horrible resale value as well, no surprises there of course. 30mpg at best, but my wife has a car 2x the weight and size, with twice the performance and she gets 33mpg. Avoid this car by all means. The seats are comfortable, end of good things.

Almost loved at the dealership. Then when I just had paid off the car, the 5 year mark, the check engine light came on. Had a sensors fixed and it worked for about a week and had to take it back. I’ve had my car at the dealership mechanic for a week while driving a loaner. When I finally got some answers, ends up that it might be my engine. What? The car only had 67,000 miles on it and, of course, the warranty is over so I might have to end up paying for it!

We have had to bring it in monthly now for the last 7 months of ownership, first we brought in for the auto start stop function turning the car off completely in freeway traffic, we brought it to Diamond Hills Chevy in Banning Ca for the problem and told it was a hiccup, second time we brought in was for a sound in the back end of the car, dealer said that the sound was a loose spare tire, we brought in 4 times for the sound to find out we needed a torsion kit installed, they installed it and sound went away. Third problem we had with the car was a popping sound on passenger side door, we took it in twice for that problem, it got fixed after that.

Fourth problem with the car was water leaking into the trunk where the spare tire sits, dealer said we left trunk open while washing the car, car is currently back in shop for that problem along with brakes rubbing metal to metal which the car is too new for that. Before taking it in recently I have taken the car into at 3 times for auto start stop stalling the car out. I have called GM to file for arbitration to get the car bought back by GM but GM denied the request buy back, right now I'm pursuing a lemon law attorney. I'm a 40 year purchaser of Chevy vehicles. The Cruze fiasco did me in. This car is the worst piece of junk ever put out by Chevy, and I'm done. I've been an avid Chevy fan since 1980 when I bought my first Chevy car followed in '85 by a new Silverado truck. I was totally satisfied with those cars and those since right up until this Chevy Cruze.

Egads people have created forums on how to repair these Cruzes. Not simple repairs but freaking engine repairs. Be aware your emissions system warranty is null and void and not covered by bumper to bumper at over 80k. Your powertrain which believe me you will very much need is null and void at 100k. This is the worst piece of crap car I've ever owned, and I'm 55. They know they have an issue, and are refusing to address it. I've had over $3500 in repairs since Feb 2017 on a 2014 with now 80,300k miles on it. Goodbye, Chevy.

My problem is that the car's transmission blew out with only 4,000 total miles on it! I have had the car for under 4 months and it's already shot. The worst part is the customer service is AWFUL. I bought the 2014 Chevy Cruze LS in June 2015. It was great the first month but then the problems began. I began to notice that it was going through gas extremely fast. I am talking about dropping 1/4 tank of gas going only 10 miles. When I took it to the mechanic they could find nothing wrong. In January 2017 is when the major issues started. While driving it all of a sudden said that my car was overheating. The temperature gauge had started to fluctuate and would spike all the way to H and the engine warning would come on telling me to pull over immediately. I pulled over and there was absolutely no signs showing the car was actually overheating (no smoke billowing out), only the warning message. After sitting with the car off for a few minutes, I was able to drive to my place before the message came on again.

For a few weeks, it wouldn't overheat, but the temperature gauge had stopped working completely and the fan for the engine would be roaring as soon as I cranked the car. The check engine light soon came on after this. After finally taking to the mechanic, they could find absolutely nothing wrong so they cleared the code. After clearing the code, the temperature gauge magically started working again. In May 2017, every single time I would take it to put gas in it, it would not crank. It would take a few tries before it would finally start. Took it into the shop and they had to fix something with a valve. (I apologize, I do not remember 100% what they exactly fixed. It’s been overwhelming with all that is wrong with it.)

In July 2017. My car was completely dead, clicking when I tried to start it. I popped the hood to find the positive battery terminal was the most corroded I had ever seen. I bought a new battery ($175 later) and for a week, my worries had dissipated. Then about one week after installing the new battery, I went to start it and all it did was click. After 10 times of trying to crank it, it sluggishly would start. I had the battery tested as well as to ensure grounding was okay and they were perfectly fine. The starter and alternator was okay. Took it into the shop yet again and had the positive battery cable changed because the prior corrosion has nearly ate through the cable. I was relieved that it would be an easy fix, except it didn't. It continues to start very sluggishly.

Finally this month (August 2017), I am in the process of moving across the country from GA to CO. Things were going great until I was halfway in MO. All of a sudden the "Service StabiliTrak" popped up, my radio completely shut off, and all the warning lights were on my dashboard. Within 10 seconds, the StabiliTrak message disappeared and the radio was back on. 5 seconds later, the radio shut off and went black before finally turning back on after 10 seconds. And it has been acting 100% normal since this. (Minus the VERY slow start.) I am desperate to get rid of this car. Unfortunately, I am upside down on the loan, finding out that this car is now only worth $5,500 yet I still owe $12,800. I honestly cannot imagine having to keep this lemon for another 3 years. Does ANYONE have any tips on where I go from here?!

He no longer does this type of work and so we are left deciding if we want to take it in for full on service or replace the vehicle. I bought my Chevy Cruze in 2014. I had one amazing year with the Cruze. Then the second year came and nothing but recalls. Then the third year hit. I have under 40,000 miles but wouldn't you know it, after that 2 year/50,000 mile bumper to bumper expired, the problems started rolling in. And they didn't stop either. I have had problems with blown gaskets, oil and oil pan problems, and now the battery is screwed up. With no signs of a low battery, I went to start my car today and it wouldn't start. So I bought a new battery, but that was just the first step and several $100 dollars later. I have literally spent almost $5000 in two years extra into this piece of a car. Once I brought my car home I noticed missing paint on my driver's side door due to the carelessness of the dealership that did the oil change (there is also missing paint on the passenger side door that I didn't notice until recently). Anyways, I brought my car in to be fixed and after getting it back while reversing in a parking lot, my car stalled and the check engine light came on. I brought it back to the dealership and was told that the fuel pump (or something of that nature) needed to be replaced and that a code for the transmission came up as well. The check engine light came back on two weeks ago and the car had trouble picking up speed. I was able to restart it (after two attempts) and drove home.

The check engine light went off over the weekend then came back on four days later. The car stalled again while putting the car in drive, and it had difficulty picking up speed. After getting the run around for a loaner, I was able to bring the car back to the dealership. No one ever called me back so I had to call them on Monday, 7/17/17 to get a status. The car wasn't even looked at yet! It's coming up to one week without my car and I was told that the torque converter failed completely and needed to be replaced. How is that possible?! I've owned my vehicle for less than two years (I'll hit the two year mark next month) and it only has 9,500 + miles on it. Not happy.

The clutch blew twice - extremely sensitive which is strange. Then I had tons of recalls afterwards. Since it's a 4 cylinder & stick I figured it was just really slow. After 3yrs of driving it I found out it's actually a recall. This was after I started smelling something strange, my hood was smoking & I had to get it towed to the dealership. Oil had shot literally, all down & through my car!

Then check engine light came on & the dealership refused because the light wasn't on at that time. Even though it'd been on for weeks on/off. That was a few months ago. The check engine light came on again the other day for 2 days straight! Now it went off & I'm about to drive 12hrs away to NY in a couple weeks. Since I've been a long time Chevy owner, I always get the extended warranties & thank god I did! Also, the XM radio was stuck, then screen blacked out or stuck on incorrect song name/artist.

Overall, since 2014 I've had the following recalls/replacements (per my service record online): CAMSHAFT COVER, FRONT AXLE RIGHT HALF SHAFT, INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT, PURGE SOLENOID VALVE, TURBO FEED LINE, VALVE COVER AND MANIFOLD & finally the VENT VALVE SOLENOID. This car is definitely a lemon & I'm really hoping the dealership doesn't give me any issues regarding the check engine light. I've been in there SO many times that I'm not paying for anything anymore. Has anyone else had the check engine light fixed & it came on again?

It started off with my car leaking a lot of coolant so I took it back to Felix Chevrolet and they claimed they changed the water pump and thermostat. A couple of days later I notice the car was still leaking so I took it back. They tried telling my the overflow tank for the radiator had a crack and was leaking. I took it to a shop and they said it's no leak so I took it back to Felix and they tried making me pay $200 I believe for them to check the car. I told them that it right because they were suppose to fix the car. They checked the car and said that was the only problem and it will be $260 to fix and the mechanic told me it's a very common problem with the Cruze. Once the water pump mess up next it will be the holes or something else.

Time pass by and I finally realized it's not a crack in the tank but the water in the overflow tank bubbles. I took it to the Holman dealership. The man looked at the car and said it's overheating and I told him the temperature gauge don't move. It stays in the same place and don't go too hot. He told me it's still overheating. Leave the car and they will check it. I had to pay them $120 to check the car. George told me it would cost $1400 to fix the turbo and that's the reason the car is overheating. When I picked up the car and drove it home and I turned on the heater the car made a weird noise and was shaken a little so I called George and told him he told me to bring it back. I took it back and he told me "Oh something may be stuck in the filter. It should blow out."

I took the car back home and next day went to get in the car and notice a lot of coolant came out the car. The car was leaking worse it seemed like it was pouring out. I called George again and told him the problem and he told me to bring the car in today but I haven't took it yet. I feel they sold me a bad car. Instead they talked me into just setting up an appointment but having me pay out of pocket for the repairs and a rental vehicle.

Now, I understand that when a vehicle is out of warranty, you have to pay out of pocket. But for something that should have already been fixed, I don't think I should have to. I ended up canceling that appointment because of me having to pay for it. Plus it's an intermittent thing so it might not even act up for them to duplicate it. Fast forward to December of 2016. It started doing this again. But not this time when the radio turns off, you can still hear what's playing but the screen is blank. You can't turn it off or on. You can't turn the volume down. I ended up having to pay over $900 and being stranded 60 miles from home because it was a bad sensor in the Diesel Exhaust System. 1 week later, I finally got the car back. Fast forward 4 months. I am on a road trip and over 200 miles away from home when the check engine light comes on and the diesel exhaust system once again puts my car into "limp mode". When I say limp mode, I have a finite number of miles I will be able to travel until the speed is limited on the vehicle. Eventually, the governor on the vehicle will only allow you to travel at 4MPH. Yes. FOUR miles an hour.

I am now stranded, once again, in the middle of the night, on a road trip, 300 miles from my destination with nothing but 70 MPH interstate speeds. 9 AM rolls around and I'm able to get into a nearby Chevy dealership. $350 later, it turns out to be a clogged filter. There is apparently nothing to prevent this, and there is no user maintenance that could be done. I am literally having to suck it up and fork over hundreds of dollars anytime this happens again. It is now December of 2016. I am once again in "limp mode". I've received a letter from GM saying sensors have been going bad on the DES, and they will issue me a refund, however, it's still not fixing the issue of having a RELIABLE and DEPENDABLE vehicle. What's the point in purchasing a car that gets great gas mileage, if it's not going to let me drive if ONE little thing is wrong with an exhaust system??

This is the WORST vehicle I've ever owned. GM had better come out with a bypass, update, or new system for this car because after the issues I have had, and have now been reading about the entire Diesel Exhaust System on these models, I can see a mass recall or even lawsuit pending. Right now the only thing this car is good for is the entertainment value of watching it fly off a cliff and landing at the bottom of a very deep ravine and exploding in a Michael Bay-type fireball explosion... which... I suspect it would go into "limp mode" as it's flying down to it's impending doom.

Even if that is true, who in their right mind would use a paint that would wear off within the first 21,000 miles of driving? Apparently GM does not care about the little guy anymore.

My other problem is the resale value, which is very low. When I bought the car, I put 1,000 down, which dropped the finance price to 17,100. I had a 3.6% interest rate, so the monthly payment was 320. I paid 350 a month to get the loan paid down quicker. When I went to trade it in, I was offered 2,000 less than the payoff for the car. I was appalled that a car could lose so much value so fast. I am now stuck with a car that has paint wearing off and a trade in value 2,000 dollars less than what I owe, and despite having the car listed for sale on the classifieds, I have literally had one person show interest in it in the seven months it has been listed. Overall message: buyer beware.

I purchased a Chevy Cruze 2014 practically new. A guy purchased it brand-new decided he didn't like the color and brought it back so it landed on the used car lot. I purchased the car and have had nothing but trouble. Between recalls and breaking down it's out of control. I have contacted General Motors and told them what was going on and they gave me a voucher to have it diagnosed at the dealership. Apparently it's several things wrong with the car one being the catalytic converter which is no longer under warranty after 80,000 miles my car is at 85000. It also has a timing problem. It has had several parts replaced.

I brought it in to the dealership to try and trade it in but my credit is not that good. Upon visiting the dealership two salesmen let me know that the 2014 Chevy Cruze has had several problems. And there has been several people trading it in to get rid of it. I'm at the point I have no money to fix this car and I at this time have a claim number with GM and no one is responding to me. The guy at the dealership is getting very irritated with me calling. I have one car and three jobs to get to. Customer service is horrible they don't offer a loaner. I'm stuck and have no clue what to do. If anyone has any information please let me know.

While I had the cruise control on and applied the brake the pedal would not go down. I had to put two feet and apply a lot of pressure to get the car to stop. I was never more scared in my entire life. Dealership said they couldn't find anything wrong. I spoke with owner asking for money back. Suddenly they said there was a brake booster. I don't believe they fixed my car. Please someone help me get my money back.

Plus, parts and maintenance is way overpriced, $100 for an oil change and almost $200 for a fuel filter. Easy to see why GM has gone from a 100k mile powertrain warranty down to a 60k mile powertrain warranty.

I bought a brand new 2013 Chevy Cruze late in that year and the car has just done a 60,000 km service on 08 August. A few days after the service, the car momentarily failed to start. I turned the ignition off and removed the key. A while later the car started and I drove home. It was late afternoon. Come September, the car would not start after shopping at the local mall. A friend suggested the battery because all the settings on the dash, except kilos, would revert to Zero. I had my doubts given the car was just two years old and expected to last an average of five years, based on the cars I drove before.

I however jump started the car and I drove home. Two more experiences, I went to the battery center for a test, and yes they confirmed my battery needed replacement. I regard this as a ground-breaking record for a car battery to die in two years - it can only happen at Chevrolet, given similar experiences I read about on this blog. Chevrolet has just lost another future client.

I am writing this e-mail to you in order to complain about the horrible service advisor you have there by the name of Dan **. My wife took her 2012 Chevy Cruze in for service on 5/2/16 because the window fell inside the door panel and we also had a check engine light on. Dan initially told us that the turbo was bad and won't be covered under warranty due to it being an emissions related item. I told him that it is part of the power train and not an emissions related part. He later called us back and said that the turbo would be covered under warranty. We picked the car up on 5/5/16 and my wife got 2 miles away and the check engine light came back on. We brought the car back in on 5/6/16 and were told that it was probably a bad turbo and it was too late in the day to get it fixed, so we took it home. We brought it back in on 5/9/16 and picked it up on 5/13/16.

I called Dan on 5/12/16 to see if the car would be ready by 5 pm and he wasn't sure, but he did tell me that this time it's a bad solenoid and it was not covered under warranty (of course). I informed him that I would call back at 4:30 to see if it would be ready because we live in the mountains and would need to stop by on the way home. I called at 4:30 and left him a message that we would be driving home and for him to call us before 5 if the car was ready. We did not hear back from him until the next day. He called me the next day and asked me why we did not pick up the car. I informed him why and that we would pick up the car after work on the 13th because we get to work before the service department opens. When my wife picked up the car, she asked why it wasn't washed and Dan told her that I requested not to have it washed. She called me right then and there to see why I would say that and I informed her that Dan was lying.

I never said that. He never apologized to her but said that he would take care of it. He made her wait 20 minutes and was questioning her why we wanted a print out of all of the work done to the car since we bought it. She explained that we have law offices contacting us regarding the Lemon Law and Dan proceeded to chastise her for taking this route. We have had at least 5-6 recalls regarding this car. It has been the worst Chevy we have ever owned. I currently own a 2002 Chevy Tahoe and a 2006 Corvette Z06.

I have owned 5 different Corvettes and 6 other Chevy vehicles. Yes, I am loyal to Chevrolet. I am planning on trading in the Corvette for the new Z06, but after this experience at your dealership I will take my business elsewhere! We will also be contacting an attorney to pursue the car being bought back under the Lemon Law if you are not able to do this for us. PS. Dan never got the car washed for us. My wife was so upset, she left so as not to have Dan make her wait another 20 minutes to pretend to wash the car.

I bought a new 2011 Cruze Eco with 1.4 Turbo. From day I bought the car it had a strong odor like some type of fluids getting hot. The longer you drove the car it got worse to the point your eyes and throat would burn. First I was told it was because it was new, then it was a filter, then they said they couldn't smell it. Had it in and out of shop several times for coolant leaks. Lines changed a couple times and a tee changed, cracked inter cooler and other minor and recall related things. At 65,000 miles I still had to drive with windows down even in winter because of the smell. That's when the real trouble began. Lost all power and made loud noise like no muffler.

The turbo went bad and tube broke away from turbo. Oil was everywhere. At first dealer said it was because I used wrong oil. When I PROVED the oil was changed ahead of schedule and right oil used every time, they replaced turbo. When I picked it up I made it about two miles and lost all power. Dealer got it and said something was not installed right and it was now fixed. I drove 4-5 miles and no power. Dealer got and said they would have to order another turbo. When I got it back, I drove out of their bay where they had it and drove around to front of bay and told them it is now making a slight knocking noise. They looked at and said it would go away, that it was just because oil needed to get circulated to lube engine good. Yeah ok.

Drove for a couple days and it got real bad. Brought it back, they looked at it and said it was because when I brought in, it was a quart of oil low and engine blew. No kidding, tube blew off turbo and oil was everywhere. I wonder why it was low. Was told 5000 for new engine plus labor and warranty would not cover it because of the low oil. I threw my oil receipts at them and told them politely where they could put them. The car had sit in driveway ever since that time. After about a year and a half I was talked into contacting Chevy. They told me to bring to another dealer and have diagnosed.

After three dealers said need engine but wouldn't diagnose the problem and they wouldn't mess with it because it had already been worked on and needed to go back to original dealer. Then was told because now that I no longer have receipts it would not be covered even though I had already proved it and only 53 miles more than when the last turbo was replaced so parked in the driveway and sat in driveway for another year. Got talking with a guy and he said "bring it over to my shop" and he would find the problem.

Pulls oil pan off and all kinds of metal shavings. Number three cylinder had groves in bottom. He pulls head and embedded in head and valves were chunks of metal that he says were pieces of the turbo propeller, cylinder has a few gouges. new engine needed. Used engine for about 1100 with shipping plus labor. I will contact Chevy again and see if they or the dealer will do anything. If not, I will drag it home and have an expensive piece of yard art with flowers that I will post all over social media. I have owned many Chevy's including two Cobalts that I currently drive and both with over 220,000. If they do not take care of this I will never buy another Chevy.

I purchased a 2012 Chevy Cruze and have nothing but problems out of this car. It has been in the shop at least 20 or more times with recalls on the vehicle. The braking system messed up first. You would go to stop and the car would lunge forward or just take off. Almost had several wrecks because of that. I broke down on the side of the road because the car just shut down and died. The car was overheating and the thermostat was burnt up. Had to go in to have that replaced. The turbo went out and that was replaced. The coolant reservoir had to be replaced 2 times and still leaks now and the car is constantly overheating and I have to put coolant in the car daily. Then I lost power in the car. The car was making a horrible sound.

Went to the dealership closest to me at that time for them to tell me I couldn't drive it and I had to take it back to the dealership I bought it. So we trailered the car back to the dealership. Come to find out the turbo had gone out again and even though it was under warranty the dealership wouldn't honor it. They said I had never had my oil changed and serviced. I had my paperwork showing I had all my work, oil changes and services done at the same dealerships. After 3 months of fighting with them I trailered the car once again 2 hours away to pay for it out of my own pocket to replace the turbo and fix the engine.

Got the car back and within just a month or so car shut down again, overheating and needing coolant. My car was steadily leaking and overheating. A hose was fixed at that time. The coolant reservoir still leaks and has to be checked on a daily basis. And once again broke down on my way to work. Car wouldn't go, lost power. Turbo once again GONE. So I had to trailer it back to my home and it still sitting there. I do not recommend this car to anyone. I will never buy from that dealership or buy another Chevy Cruze again.

So, this is now officially the worst car I have ever owned: 2012 Chevy Cruze LTZ. Right after I bought the car the radio would turn off, not come randomly. Researched and figured out it is a bad battery cable - I replaced it. I have gotten used to and deal with the weird braking thing where the car kind of surges forward when I brake at a stop sign. So used to it. In fact I have a hard time driving other cars because I have adjusted the way I brake. This past October, I was driving down the highway and the car felt like it "missed" - lost a little power and then sort of backfired - in my rearview I saw a white puff. Yet, it kept driving about 5 minutes later... every warning light in the car lit up, looked like the space shuttle going down. I pulled into the closest thing I saw - the car would barely move, NTB.

They were looking at it and oil was dripping down like the gasket was bad, but it was not acting like that was all. Quickly determined this was something severe and therefore covered under power train - $99 diag. to them. Had it towed to dealer $85. After 3 days of run-a-round and providing every oil change slip and service record (60k miles) - they finally told me - turbo blew and blew the engine. They replaced the entire turbo and engine. Yet, they will not pay the tow or the $99 diag... 2 days after I got the car back it would not START. Could not even pull it out of garage. I was freaking out. Called tow truck and back to dealer we go... Oh just bad battery... $55 tow (didn't use dealer reco. this time) and $185 battery.

NOW 5 months later car idling a little rough but not quite sure... driving down highway 2 days ago and exact same thing - small miss, then a backfire, no puff this time and no lights. Continued home and very rough idle at stops signs - almost like it will die. Read a bunch of stuff said it was coil pack - thought I could wait a day and take it to a shop - NOT under warranty. Nope. Not enough power to really go faster than 35 - and stabilitrak and traction light came on.

Went to service center told them what I thought. They looked over and said Cylinder 1 on coil pack is gone ($122). Fine. I ordered coil pack myself and replaced... Just drove around a little all those lights are on and check engine and the thing is idling rough. OH and I just found a coolant leak at the hose from the coolant into the T junction. Headed to dealer in the morning - this is unbelievable - I just want to get rid of this car. I want it fixed so I can trade it in on anything but a Chevy. Owned Chevy most of my life - never again.

Wife and I bought a 2014 Cruze Diesel loaded with almost every option available. The car has been fantastic. I would never have bought a 2011 or 2012 since they are new model years. Never buy a model of a vehicle until it has been out for a few years. I worked at a GM dealer for almost 12 years and that was a common rule. Another issue is most dealer employees are horribly incompetent from the techs to the salesmen. These are the main reasons for the problems I read here. My Cruze has been pretty much problem free short of a random software glitch with the infotainment system, but no real complaints. Power is great, mileage is awesome, Pioneer audio is fantastic, and car simply drives fantastic.

I have driven many of the gas Cruze's as rentals and I can say on the power thing that on regular fuel the mileage is terrible and power is way down. I always fill them with premium fuel when I drive them and mileage instantly comes up along with power. For the minor cost difference in premium fuel and the gains that come with it, I highly recommend it to anyone running the 1.4L model. It is a turbo engine and should be treated as such. I'm completely surprised by how many complaints I see about having to pay for repairs. That's part of owning a car just as is the value of a car going down. I drive a 2006 Silverado 1500 that I bought brand new and the wife drives the 2014 Cruze which we also bought brand new. Both have been problem free and both have lost value since new purchase. For the first 2 years that I owned my 2012 Cruze that I bought new, I had no problems and really enjoyed the car for what it is. Then right about the 3-year mark the nightmares began and it started with the recall for oil lead and brake failure at slow speed. My dealer at that time Bachrodt Chevrolet in Pompano, FL confidently assures me that everything was fixed under recall.

However, soon after the alleged brake fix, we hit a wall and damaged the front end when the brakes failed again at low speed. Bachrodt to me they could find nothing wrong, and I was imagining it. I was about to take further action including legal, when I started to experience excessive oil leakage. Back to Bachrodt who after about 2 visits for it, said they could not see anything so there is no problem.

At this point I complained to General Motors directly, and they sent me to another dealer. This dealer found that yes, the brake sensor of some type failed, and I am awaiting word whether they will repair the damage caused by the brakes failing. As for the continuing oil leak, this dealer said at first they pulled the spark plug and saw no evidence of damage, and that I would have to bring it in each time the oil was low, which I assume was because they did not believe me. I told them I have all the oil receipts and do not buy motor oil to put on my salad. They came back and said, lo and behold, there is a major leak and that oil is all over the engine.

To make a long story short, it appears that one of two things is true about Bachrodt Chevrolet, 1) they were simply incompetent or 2) they ALLEGEDLY committed fraud and did not really fix anything and simply billed GM for the repairs that ALLEGEDLY were never made. I have no proof of this ALLEGED fraud, but to me I cannot see 2 repairs made and then immediately failing. So, we shall see if the directly involvement of GM solves the problems once and for all - and if they will pay for damage caused by the brake failure at low speed

I bought a 2013 Chevy Cruze with 2000 miles on it for 15500. The car has had multiple mechanical failures and spent multiple days in the shop for repairs. After being fed up with this repeated unreliability, I decided to sell the vehicle. One year later the best market value is 8000 dollars. Which in turn puts me upside down on my loan to the tune of 5000 dollars. In turn leaves me stuck with a car not worth half what I give for it. The market value is based on multiple recalls and mechanical failures due to shoddy manufacturing at gm and Chevrolet’s facility. Yet apparently, the general consumer and I are expected to pick up the tab.

I bought this car with 28k miles on it. It has had a total of 6 recalls so far. I've already had to replace the entire intake system and the ignition coil (at around 60K). Of course, it drove fine when I test drove it, but ever since I bought it, it has had no get up and go. If the AC is on, it takes forever to accelerate. I am now smelling rotten egg (catalytic converter) and the check engine light is reading an evap problem. When I hit the slightest bump in the road, it hits hard - has never driven smoothly even after purchasing brand new tires. I've never gotten the mileage that has been determined. I hate this car and can't wait to get rid of it! Sadly, this was my experience for my first newer car I've bought. Unfortunately, I still owe $13K and dealership only offered me $8K! I bought this lemon for almost $19K! Not even worth $8K in my opinion.

Boxing Day (I was 3 hrs. from home), but it was closed. Service engine soon light came on again briefly, but went out. Got home safely. However the following day (Dec. 27th), after driving no more than 5 mins. and while in the process of turning left at a busy 5 corner intersection, the ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED light came on and within seconds (while turning) the power cut out to a snail's crawl. Several vehicles went out of their way to avoid hitting me. Finally got safely over to roadside and called for assistance. Once again towed to dealership. Will call them in morning when they open. We bought the Cruze when they first came out in 2011. Over paid to begin with because I had to have all the bells & whistles. And of course it's a beautiful black car. It has never had any power, has only once got the estimated miles per gallon. If the air is on it slows at times to almost a stop. Not running the air I have had it slow down to almost a stop twice and had to steer off the road. We have had all the recalls done on it. I am afraid to take off due to the fact it pulls back before it gets going. We have had it in probably a dozen times. Last service we got home and it was leaking by the engine, took it back, they said "it drives like a new car".

Got home (2 hr drive to dealership) it's still leaking. Leave it for a week, fly out of town, come back to pick it up and was told, hoses were leaking and needed to be replaced. Car was not finished, we now have a loaner car and find out they had to replace the turbo. I had called Chevy and reported to them all of the problems we were having. They apologized and told me they wanted their customers satisfied, and wanted us happy with our purchase. They were amazing to talk to. After I hung up I thought, I just got nowhere with them. My car is a lemon, and worth nothing to trade in. So now, has the turbo never worked? Has the car always leaked? Will I ever get the great gas mileage it was advertised to give?

I bought this car used 2012 LT and I have to say it has been an excellent car these past 40,000 miles. I have had only one part wear out, a 10 dollar hose I could replace myself and that is it. I will note that for some reason the trunk latch goes out prematurely, other than that hardly any problems to note after hitting 75000 miles.

Things to consider. If you are buying this car, especially one with the 1.4 turbo engine, do yourself a favor AND EDUCATE YOURSELF HOW TO MAINTENANCE A TURBO ENGINE!!! I used to work at GM and tried and failed so many times to convince drivers that they need FULL SYNTHETIC engine oil. It doesn't matter how small the engine or turbo is, the reason the turbos go out is due to IGNORANCE, not fault of GM. (Though they will still replace it if it is under the 100k mile warranty.) They are garret water and oil cooled turbos that are known for their longevity IF you give them due maintenance. If you put in cheap oil, in either the transmission or engine, you will break things. Period.

Last night I got into my 2012 Cruze LT, started the engine, put it in reverse and was backing out when the engine simply died. All the lights were working just fine, no clicking from the starter motor so it was not a battery problem. When the key was turned to ON, there was absolutely nothing from the engine. Fortunately one of my employer's Service vehicles was nearby and the technician tried jump-starting it, nothing. He checked if the starter motor was stuck - no. The battery terminals were pristine. He checked a number of the fuse that may be related to the engine and jiggled some Relays - nothing worked. He then asked me to get in the car, turn the ignition to ON and hold it - while in Park of course. He then jiggled the entire fuse/relay box and the engine started immediately.

There was some kind of electrical contact issue underneath the box so he had to jam something between the windshield side of the box and the body to force the connection so that I could get home. I now have to take this to the dealer to deal with. Will post the final outcome. If this happens to me while on a highway.. what could be the outcome??

The chevy dealership stated that I needed a new battery. I just had to take it back into the dealership this week because I went to start it one morning for work and it wouldn't start. I had the battery tested at NAPA and O'Reillys, both stated that my battery and alternator were just fine. The alternator was at 15 volts, they stated 14 was normal.

I went to purchase a battery, just in case, but when we jumped the car again to go to buy it, it would not fully shift into gear. It would just rev the engine, then occasionally it would lurch while making an awful 'ker-chunk' sound. We had to get it towed to the dealership. They stated it was a dead battery and once replaced everything was fine. However, they also had to fix a leaking axle seal. I have had nothing but issues with this vehicle. The number of recalls is ridiculous, and I feel that there has to be some underlying issue that the dealership won't acknowledge, because two new batteries in 18 months is ridiculous.

They also replaced turbo, catalytic converter. When I got my car back it had a massive oil leak. They said it was fixed. I still smell burning oil. This was in September 2015. I bought my 2011 Cruze new and 10 minutes into ownership I knew I had just bought something that was going to change my life. Leaving the dealership the transmission made a nasty shift which sent me to the side of the highway because it sounded like something broke. That was just the start. The repairs began very shortly after that and it was not long and the car became worthless as a trade in once the vin number was given. I have dealt with GM the last 4 years since the car during the first 3 years has been to the dealership so much that the repairs have exceeded what I paid for the car. (All covered by warranty but still impacted our lives terribly.)

We would start off on the day and the car would act up and back to the dealership we went for yet another rental car. GM offered $2000 towards another car and they told the dealership to take care of this and the dealerships response to that was "OK, fine." We went to do the deal in Jan 2015 and they showed me a 2014 white Cruze they still could not sell. I was to pay sticker for the year old car and I was to get no discounts or rebates. If you remember there was a 20% rebate and I had GM employee discount. They were to collect those.

What it boiled down to as the salesman whom felt bad about the deal was we were giving them our car for free because they did not want it either. Needless to say we still have the car and it sits in the driveway hardly driven and we only drive it 2 miles from home or less and we drive a 2000 Blazer on vacations so we can relax and know we will get back home. NOTE! Wouldn't you know it the Blazer has developed transmission problems. The great majority of the miles on the Cruze were during repairs or back and forth to the dealership. The Cruze has impacted our lives big. I have run out of ideas. This car was a retirement gift to myself and it has destroyed our plans of a good retirement and traveling. Now GM will not answer any calls. I guess they are sick of my problem. Guess what, so am I.

I have a 2013 Cruze Eco, 6 speed manual, and the engine power is extremely disappointing as well as very inconsistent economy performance. I drive 60 miles round trip for work and wanted an economical car. My first year of driving, my average was around 33 mpg, which I was pretty pleased with as not all of my driving is highway. It has gone down ever since and often when I am pulling out or trying to pick up speed quickly, the engine seems very hesitant to MOVE. I have to down shift and nearly red line the engine to get the car to move. My MPG is now down to 31.8 mpg and my driving habits/route has not changed much at all.

UPDATED ON 09/24/2015: I have a 2013 Cruze Eco, Manual 6 speed. I wrote a previous review stating that my economy was not nearly what I would expect it to be and while doing some research, I found that many people were recommending to use Premium fuel. Because the engine is turbo and I live in a warm climate (outside of Atlanta,GA) apparently the engine was not optimally burning regular unleaded gas.

My original review stated that my engine was unresponsive, that I was always needing to downshift to get any kind of power, and that my MPG's were consistently declining. Since switching to Premium fuel, my MPG has improved by at least 5 MPG (sometimes more) and the engine reacts as I would expect, delivering power when I downshift and need to go. While I am very happy that the MPG has increased and the engine performance has improved, I am not happy that GM/Chevy is providing an economy product that really can only meet the EPA #'s by running on premium gasoline.

About 2,000 miles later the check engine light came on. A code P0299 low turbo boost, so off to the dealer we bought it from. They were great and proceeded to replace the turbo under the power train warranty. Luckily I still had a few months left of that warranty. But I have to say this car with so little miles has now apparently had the water pump replaced, the steering recalled, and now the turbocharger replaced at 31,000 miles.

That is truly a scary thought given today's highly engineered vehicles. Does this sound like the new GM? Or the old GM? I like the car, but I question very much the reliability going forward. It's not just me, I have talked to people who own this car with same problems. I also question having a turbo engine on a econobox vehicle in the first place. I certainly could not totally recommend the Cruze on a basis of it being reliable and low costs. If these problems continue over the next few years, I would probably not buy another GM product again.

Rattle in passenger's side door (same issue with 2012 model). Dealership unable to identify problem. Rattle eventually disappeared. Left front quarter panel and driver's door improperly aligned. Dealership fixed this issue. Whistling sound from engine, water pump was defective and failing. Dealership repaired this issue. The car has 17,000 highway km on it and has been Krown protected. The car had under 18,000 km on it at the time. GM Canada told me that there was no way to track these issues back to the time of manufacture, absolute nonsense in my opinion. The steering and the axle seal issues can both be very dangerous if not addressed and the water pump issue can lead to a ruined motor.

Engine coolant leak from water pump - "We won't fix it - we'll just extend the warranty for this part."

Don't buy this car - not even used. We bought it new and it spends sooo much time in the shop and they aren't great. Can't even start it today. Positive battery terminal is corroded over and it won't start. The service is TERRIBLE. If it's warranty, let them try. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut. But if you have to pay for it, take it somewhere else.

We got the car in Oct of 2014 and 4 days... yes 4 days after getting the car, at 350 kms later after, the car only had 5 kms when we got it, the vacuum pump on top motor went. Then the right window came off track a month later. 2 weeks later, the passenger window mechanics quit. Then 2 months later, a constant squeaking noise coming from frontend that the mechanics can't find out why it's doing it. Even got a video of our car squeaking as you drive it. Then has been going on now for 3 months and still no satisfaction. Now a new issue, there's a grind coming from the front in when in gear and vibrations from the trannie ... In the shop again, not impressed. Car 8 months old and in the repair shop six times for issues. Regret getting this vehicle now.

Then I got a code that gas cap was off so I checked and it wasn't and that's when the fan problems got worse. It will cut out after driving at highway speed after about an hour but cuts back in when the engine idles. Now it roars as soon as I start it, no code, nothing. With inspection in January 2015 was told transmission line was rotted. Unfortunately the warranty that would have covered this was ran out. Well February 2015, replaced all four tires and had an alignment done. March, the alignment is off. I get the alignment redone and now it's off again.

Problem this time is when making complete turns the steering wheel is turning completely around and I keep hearing a squeaky sound. Talked to a few people about this and they all say the same thing that my tie-rods are bad. Also driving at high speeds, the car feels like it's moving all over the road. I have taken my car to the dealership twice in a month and explained to them what is happening and that I don't feel safe driving it. They keep telling me nothing is wrong with it. I have previously owned a Chevy Cavalier, 13 years old, 275,000 km...original clutch. Before that, Ford Probe, 15 years old, 323,000 km...original clutch. In 18 years my clutches never needed replacing. After 3 1/2 years my Cruze clutch burnt beyond repair.

I have had it in for 6 recalls, a bad coil which cost me $350.00, bad transmission cooling lines $450.00, valve cover gasket, trunk latch broke. The car shifts really bad and sputters at a stop, and the biggest problem was the leaking antifreeze that took dozens of phone calls to the dealer and three drop offs. They treated me very poor as if I was making it up. I had the service guy sit in my car while I started it and asked him to smell the air once it started. He told me he couldn't smell the greasy antifreeze smell. It was not until they issued a recall on the water pump when a different dealer finally fixed it.

I have called the 800 number to try to get a buy back and wrote multiple letters to GM. GM responded to my letter by telling me the reason my car is needing antifreeze is because there are bubbles in the line as all new cars have... I added gallons, not cups. I just brought my car in yesterday and told them I am done and they need to come up with a number to purchase a new truck. They told me their hands were tied and they could not make me an offer.

What is going on here? How can we wash our hands with these cars? There are hundreds of thousands of complaints and GM is basically beating us down with a stick while we beg for help. It's time someone stands up and drives GM into the ground.

Recently bought a 2015 Chevy Cruze, absolutely the worse purchase I made. Within two weeks of buying the car (with only 66 miles on it), I am hearing a grinding type noise that lasts for a second or two underneath the gas pedal when the car is going between 11 mph to 14 mph. My kids are saying they hear it on the passenger side back end side.

I took the car back two weeks after I got it and was told to put on about 2500 miles then go from there. Third week goes by and I take it back and the sales person lets me drive another Cruze for test purposes and no noise, he heard the noise in my car and told me that it's an adaptive transmission, and also it does not happen on higher speeds therefore not impeding my use of the car. Took it back on Wed 4/22/15. The service tech heard it and can not explain it and because it only happens once. (Mind you I hear it three to four times a day).

Took it back today (it's Friday 4/24/15) because the display of the radio froze and it kept telling me "good bye" and mentioned the noise that keeps coming up asked them to look at it again... No mention when they told me they fixed the radio by doing a global reset. The car has no power, I can't pass anyone, the car sits in 4 gear when only going 20 mph, I don't know if that's supposed to happen or what. Most of the time I am in m6 gear before I even reach 50 mph...

Call GM and was told to take it to another dealership. I resorted to even recording the noise on my phone...since I'm a liar and all...I am no longer comfortable with my purchase or remedies in resolving it. I am not being taken seriously at all. Even the salesperson made the comment to me that some people realize they can't afford the car or don't like it, and have buyer’s remorse... I told him not the case with me. I just want the car I was suppose to get. I am paying close to 25k for it. I don't think what I am asking for is that difficult.

Let me just start by saying I purchased this car in June 2014 (LS automatic model). Absolutely loved it, had no issues.... Up until the past month. I've taken care of it, regular maintenance and I don't drive like a maniac. Five-minute drive to work, and maybe an hour and a half on the weekends to a cottage in the summer. It's just shy of 15,000 km, and I'm actually terrified of driving it anywhere now. It's now April 2015, hasn't even been a full year owning this car. First issue presented was while I was accelerating to higher speeds. It would not shift into proper gear and the engine would continuously rev. I would then decelerate and brake, and the car would kickback/jump, upon braking. I took the car to be serviced, upon diagnostics they told me that nothing came up and the car was perfectly fine. Told me that "[I] have the latest technology built into the car and it would have came up on diagnostics if something was wrong."

Nothing on my vehicle was recalled and they sent me on my way. A week later, it's now jumping at lower speeds, and making a horrible squealing/humming noise upon accelerating with city driving & at highway speeds. I don't even know how else to describe the noise, but that was never present before. It kicks back even worse, and still doesn't shift properly. I have 2 appointments booked for service at separate Chevrolet/GM locations, thankfully its covered under warranty... but other than that, that's about as much as I'm thankful for in this car. It's a terrifying drive, because I fear the worst will happen while driving it. If anyone is experiencing any of these issues, please provide some insight!

Than I have an hour from how and it started smoking, opened it up, and there was oil all over the engine compartment -- it took the dealer two days to find out that it was a camshaft alternator valve that went bad. SURPRISE the part was back ordered and my car sat in the shop for SIX weeks!

The day I got it back it started smoking again due to a belt being soaked in oil. (This is something the dealership should have checked. Took it to the dealer closest to me and they refused even though it was caused by the part that was under warranty) Then my thermostat went bad. Not long after my car was running hot, when I looked my coolant was empty. So I refilled it. The next day (on Thanksgiving) my car started smoking, when I opened it up my coolant hose was spraying liquid all over the place. By the time I got it in I was had to have two hoses, a belt and a seal replaced! It never seems to end.

Then my keys started locking me out and after only 24 hours my car wouldn't even start (I have the smart keys, evidently they aren't smart enough to tell you they are dying) instead I got stranded in downtown DC. I have recently found there is an override to start the car (but not where to but it into the ignition). I travel like crazy but I am scared to take my car anywhere. My grandfather worked for GM for 20 years and I couldn't imagine driving anything else until I owned this car. The only thing I want to do is drive it off a cliff! Then I leave it to get checked, they changed transmission mount, lose insulation at radio screen, alignment due to excessive cross camber pull and toe, wind coming through door, the door needed to be re-aligned, lower part of air box replaced, rear engine mount replaced, lights power dimming and power steering negative, battery cable replaced and this car still has problems. I took my car in on Saturday for an oil change and annual inspection and they go through a list of issues that a car with less than 100,000 miles on it should have - water pump needs replaced, an oil leak, transmission leak, and as before the coolant leak. The transmission leak isn't covered under the power train warranty but everything else is, but it's not the point. I should not have the issues. I was a faithful Chevrolet owner before the Cruze. Not sure about that now.

My husband purchased a beautiful 2014 Cruze 4 months ago. We've loved the car until a week ago at about 2,500 miles the transmission is wrecking havoc. We need this car for work and to drive with our two year old. The car won't shift out of first gear. You can't go in reverse and then go in drive without the car jerk in and revving. When you come to a complete stop, the car jerks and doesn't want to accelerate. Mind you I've just bought this car in September and I only have 2,500 miles on it! This shouldn't be happening!!

Son was riding in the passenger seat and felt something bouncing under the floor board when accelerating at low speed. I had a 1999 Sunfire with bad motor mounts that would transfer engine motion to the frame of the car. Needed all motor mounts replaced to improve the problem but not cure it completely. The car has always made this noise and I assumed it was normal until my son brought this to my attention. This is the exact noise you hear when a motor mount is bad. I will talk to the dealership and see what happens.

So I met my wife over 3 years ago, shortly after she had purchased a brand new 2011 Chevy Cruze. She has 2 small children and was looking for a reliable vehicle. The 2011 Chevy Cruze has been anything but that. Before I had even met her, she had taken the car to the garage for a recall with the transmission. Needed to have the oil pan replaced because apparently the threads got stripped out while one of the mechanics was changing the oil. Had the recall for the heat shield problem fixed, took the car in at least 4 different times because the service airbag light would come on and each time we took it in, they would say that there was no problem until they eventually found a wire that had been chaffing. Apparently our number 4 cylinder is junk cuz that misfired over 400 times and had to be fixed.

Oh yeah, and the car started to make a stupid humming noise at 40000, just a wheel bearing that was no good this time. This is a car that never leaves the hot top, I mind you. The car smells like its hot all the time even though the temperature gauge doesn't even reach the halfway mark on the dash. The motor shakes so bad that I'm afraid it's going to bounce out of the car!!! Starting at a stop light at the bottom of a big hill where we live, the car refuses to shift out of first gear on a regular basis. It has lurched forward when shifting out of first gear on a handful of times that I can remember. Oh and yes, we took the car in for the low coolant recall. What a stupid-ass recall that was. I think pretty much everyone is capable of checking their own coolant from time to time. Now the fan for the radiator is stuck on for no apparent reason when it's the first of January and 0 degrees outside, and to top it off our washer fluid refuses to spray the windshield when you pull the lever. Yeah, I would have to say that this is the most unreliable piece of crap that GM has made to date!!!! Thanks a lot GM!!! You will be hearing from us shortly!!!!!

At 76000 km, the transmission cooler lines started leaking. GM refused to fix it because the warranty is over. They quoted me $565 dollars. They should be ashamed of this vehicle. I am so disappointed with the Chevy Cruze. I bought a New 2011 Chevy Cruze for my daughter. We've had so many problems and right now it's again in the service department AGAIN because something is wrong with the coolant. 3 weeks ago it was in the service department because issues with the antifreeze/thermometer. I've only owned Toyota's, I thought this time around I would buy an American made car, HUGE mistake. My Toyota Avalon has 180,000 miles and still hasn't given me any issues. I just don't know what I'm going to do when warranty goes out. My daughter is in college now, she needs her car, but I can't afford to get her another one. I should have went with my gut and bought her a Toyota Corolla instead of this piece of crap Cruze.

Worst company to have to deal with on all levels. 2011 Chevy Cruze with more defects than ever. Been in at least 10 times through the warranty (excluding your multiple recalls and other random checks for a car not built right). Bumper to bumper warranty is useless for a car that breaks every month. Even left the dealership 2 separate occasions with something else broken and drove it right back in the garage. I wish I was making this up. Worst built cars built by one of the worst American companies. No wonder our business is going overseas. Chevrolet's customer care is a joke, full of people that give you a random case number and then toss you around until you just get tired and give up. Corporate letter, BBB complaint, legal action, and any other means have been submitted! ***Advise for others: If you still have the car under warranty, trade it now or call Chevrolet and let them know what a safety hazard it is to have those on the road!

I have a 2012 Chev Cruze. I live in northern MN where it gets cold in the winter. The engine does not maintain a constant engine temperature when it's around 0 degrees out. It may get up to 230F then suddenly drop to 100F. As a result of this, it oftentimes produces little heat inside. Some days, it hardly blows warm enough to keep the window defrosted. If I didn't park it in a garage, it would not warm up enough without driving to clear the windows. The thermostat has been changed 3-4 times, it just got a new water pump, and it only has a little less than 38,000 miles.

I have spoken to the GM Executive referral center several times over the last year. They said this is a "normal operating characteristic" and "nothing per se is broken" but if a solution is found, they will fix it. Chevrolet makes a diesel model now that has an electric heat element to resolve that problem but no fix for mine. Last year, they sent me a check for 3 months worth of car payments for the inconvenience and basically the time last year, the car was near unusable due to cold. Car is unsafe for any extended winter travel.

A week after buying my used 2012 Chevy Cruz the whole radio/clock dash would go out, causing everything to shut down. 1st time it just did it quickly and came back on. Now every month since buying this I've had to bring it to Chevy dealership because it continuously shuts down. The blinkers don't even work! Stability track lights come on and now power steering light comes on as well. I had it in the shop for the 4th time and I am extremely angry now. Dealership who sold me the car wouldn't even return my emails. After reading on here and other sites it is obviously a problem. So why are they still selling them and why do dealerships continuously get more in?? I am a low income, divorced, single mom, and now I am stuck paying $300 a month on a used 2012 car for 5 years which I cannot afford in the 1st place and am stuck without a reliable car to get me to work. I can't trade it because I owe way more than what I would get back out of it. So YES I am extremely angry at Chevy and our local dealership. Pull these off the lots now before anyone else buys one. Will NEVER EVER buy from a Chevy dealer again! I thought my Hyundai was a lemon but it was far better than this.

I traded my Silverado for the 2011 Chevy Cruze. 1st night I had it, I started smelling antifreeze but the gauge wasn't showing to be hot so I didn't think nothing. Second day I noticed the leak. I called my rep and he says "bring it in, it's under factory warranty." Water pump had to be replaced along with a leaking valve. Got it back after a few days and again smelling hot. Now the transmission feels to be slipping, rolling backwards, surging and stop. Radio and dash lights all of the sudden get brighter. Out of 2 weeks I've had this car, I've drove it 2 or 3 days and it's in the shop. I called the general manager and they say they can't find nothing wrong. I and take them if they knew of the class and take DC to lawsuit and he says no. Really. Come on. I hate to say but I wish I had went to Toyota. Weber Chevrolet and GM is such a joke. I guess my warranty will run out while it's in the shop.

I bought my first and last Chevy product 2 years ago. I put a lot of miles on my car so it has 52,000 on it in 26 months of use but since it hit 50,000, I have had to put a throttle body in which apparently is a huge GM issue and they evidently do not care. It's also a dangerous issue. One minute on the highway you are going 60 and your car immediately reduces power to 15 mi/hrs. It's currently in the shop again 2000 miles later because the check engine light is on, service stabilitrak, and service traction control. The traction control light keep source coming on and the car is idling rough. Can't wait to see this bill since they want $108 to even tell you what's wrong. I've had conversation some with Chevy customer care during the first issue and as long as I wasn't willing to pay 108 dollars they didn't give a damn. My mechanic told me for free what the problem was. I can't wait to get rid of this car!!

So the mechanic finally got back to me. My car needs an intake manifold and gasket. Thank God for Powertrain. One day, I will be rid of this demon car. This piece of ** is 2 years old. This is the second major repair.

I am so frustrated with the 2013 Chevy Cruze that we bought new. When we first bought it we noticed an antifreeze smell in the car that was particularly strong when running the heat. We took it in and was told the water pump was leaking and it was replaced. We did get a loaner car but will never take advantage of that "privilege" again since the company GA contracts with tried to charge our cc on file for the loaner 200 bucks because the dealership did not return the car until 3 days after we brought it back. When I was sitting in the waiting room at the dealership for a second trip for same antifreeze smell as the service guy tried to convince us to take a loaner - another customer said the same extra charges happened to them with their loaner and it took a month to get their money back! We waited - only to get it back with a "we can find no problem".

In the mean time we have to make a visit to get everything from faulty trim to floor mats that will not stay attached to mirror covers that fly off when lift them. All the while I feel sick every time I ride in the car for any length of time - the smell is so strong but still we are told no problem to be found. “But don't worry now we have a recall on it so good news - if you need it fixed in the next 10 years (meaning we hope it breaks after that) we will fix it, after you prove that is what it is.” In the mean time I can't help but wonder what this is doing to my health. Now we have recently gone over the 36000 mile warranty and yep you guessed it - we get an indicator light that says ‘airbag problem’. So we take it in - we are told there is a recall on an airbag issue but our particular car is not covered under it because it is Vin number specific, really! After days of stress I am finally told that the extended warranty I paid a fortune for will cover the new airbag that the car needs. We happily pick up our car (after they say again nothing is wrong with the heater system) we have it back one day and pow! The check engine light goes on! This is crazy! As other people have mentioned we purchased this car new so we would not have all of these issues.

Now we will see what road this light takes us down. In the mean time I will continue to get sicker from the account smell and I will have a constant fear of that ding ding ding sound of an indicator light. I guess GM will not be happy until they face another lawsuit for illness from long-term chemical exposure or worse. I like many others are upside down in value of this car and cannot get out of it. Step up to the plate GM and recall these vehicles and replace them for loyal customers like me who have bought nothing but Chevy for 40 years. If not we are leaving in mass. Maybe one does not hurt but several lawsuits and thousands of customers later maybe it will - fix it now before it is too late! In the mean time I could never in good conscience recommend this car - in fact run in the other direction. If it can happen to all of these people with this model and they refuse to make it right, you may want to think twice about buying anything from a company with that sort of ‘hide it and move on’ attitude.
