I found a 2017 Corvette with 9500 miles online CarMax. Without any obligation they shipped the car to Shreveport about 100 miles away. I was permitted to inspect and test drive. Still a great car 2 years later!

The lady that was helping me was super sweet, super kind. She had this energy when she answered the phone that just made me perk up and be so excited. And then she told me her name was Beyoncé and I knew that I was blessed today. She helped me get an offer online and reschedule my appointment. She was extremely helpful. Very patient and very kind. Would call again for this one of a kind girl!

I just got my third car from CarMax. The first two sales and cars were flawless, but this one had a hitch --- The local CarMax dealer (Morse Rd., Columbus, OH) however, bent over backwards to make it good. I was motivated because my prior car had been rear-ended and totaled. I chose a car that needed to be transferred from out of state; a 2022 Hyundai Tucson with just over 30K miles. There was a $99 transfer fee, but I was pretty sure I was going to buy it, so I went ahead and paid it. At the time I was driving a rental car; the first few days were paid by insurance, but for unrelated reasons I wasn't able to get another car quickly, so it was out of pocket.

The "hitch" came when the final ship date came, and the salesman called to let me know the transfer had fallen apart (3rd party vehicle hauler) and it hadn't shipped yet. I complained and pointed out that this was costing me money. He promised to try to get the shipment expedited with another hauler. A couple of hours later, he called and said that he and his manager were able to expedite the transfer; they would also refund the shipping fee. He also said he would see about some compensation for the rental fees I was accruing. I agreed, but thought this offer would disappear when the car finally got there. Well, the car arrived a few days later, as promised. It was what I wanted, and I went ahead and purchased it.

The salesman also had me meet with the sales manager there, who reiterated that the transfer fee was being refunded, and wanted some documentation for the cost of the rental, I told him that I figured I spent three extra days in the rental, and gave him the total cost (including taxes and other fees). He asked me to wait a few minutes, and came back and said he would compensate me for that amount, and arranged to do so in cash. In addition, the rental company, which normally would pick up the rental from the dealer couldn't do so as they were understaffed that day. They had an office less than a mile from CarMax, so I mentioned to the salesman I would leave the car there and walk back. He said that wasn't necessary, and arranged a courtesy Lyft trip back at their expense.

Finally, a few minutes before leaving, the manager came by and said there was a small problem with the vehicle -- a bracket holding the license plate light was broken. He said they would order the part (and did it while I was there) and said to just stop by when it gets in and they would replace it. I was pleased that they were even looking at the small details like this. Overall, I felt that I was treated like a valued customer -- a rarity these days. Given the low mileage (just under 30K miles left on warranty) and flawless appearance of the vehicle (I've never had mechanical problems with cars from there), the price, I felt was reasonable. And the service was excellent. Their willingness to handle the "hitch" to make me whole was a pleasant surprise as well. I'm getting to the age where this might be my last car. However if I do get another one this is where I will go, no questions asked.

Carmax is not what they used to be. They have become just like any other dealership, maybe worst because their prices are higher. I bought a 2019 Toyota from Carmax with a one-year extended warranty. Nine months later, I started having issues with the "Certified" vehicle. We took it to Carmax and supposedly, they repaired the problem. A few months later, we had the same issue, well guess what, the warranty had just expired. Now there are a number of small issues that are beginning to pop up, which will cost upwards of $2000.

I’m giving CarMax 1 out of 5 stars based on my real experience buying 2 vehicles from them within a 17-month period. On paper, the “no haggle” model sounds great. In reality, buyers still need to be extremely careful and do independent inspections and research. Here were the biggest issues I experienced: Inaccurate or incomplete vehicle history reports. Both vehicles I purchased were listed by CarMax as having no accidents. Later, when attempting to resell one of the vehicles, I learned there had been a prior minor accident reported. Additionally, both vehicles showed signs of repaint work with mismatched paint coloring that was not disclosed upfront. Incorrect trim advertisement One vehicle was advertised as a higher trim level, but after checking the VIN, it turned out to be a lower trim model than advertised.

RepairPal warranty experience was disappointing. I was encouraged to purchase the RepairPal warranty package, but when I actually needed repairs, it was difficult to find participating repair shops with availability. I ultimately ended up being referred to the dealership anyway. Trade-in/resale offers felt extremely low. When I attempted to trade in or resell my vehicle back to CarMax, the offer was thousands lower than what comparable vehicles of the same year and similar configuration were being listed for on their own lot.

Poor communication regarding vehicle holds. I specifically communicated that I intended to purchase a vehicle and requested it be held for 2 additional days due to a personal emergency. Despite that conversation, the vehicle was shipped to another location. In hindsight, it may have been a blessing in disguise. Overall, my experience with CarMax did not match the transparency and convenience they advertise. I personally will not purchase from CarMax again. My advice to the public: regardless of where you buy, always verify the VIN, obtain independent inspections, review the paint/body condition carefully, and compare trade-in values elsewhere before making a decision.

6909 Southwest Freeway, Houston,Texas: We purchased a GMC Terrain 2023, there was issue with this vehicle after viewing it on lot. Service Adviser stated that they could take care of them, brought it back…some of it was professionally done, but there was an issue with the passenger side front fender, and alignment of the hood. Came back second and four time for the passenger fender that kept popping out. Finally we took it to a Collision Shop near my home. The shop took photos, and explained that someone (CarMax associate) try gluing and shaving the plastic part as well as putting screwing to hold it together.

It needed the front bumper replaced (new), which should have been replaced from the second time I bought it back for repairs …at which I show the Service Advisor the photos and parts that was shave, to keep it together. This is a Major Car Dealership and this is the kind of service they are offering with Service Advisor who don’t get back in touch with you nor Service Manager. What’s your view on CarMax? I’ve have read a crate full of incidents just like this if not worse…. You decide if you wanna buy from them???

I purchase a vehicle from CarMax… but you would think that before placing it on lot for sale, they would have gone over it a repair any issue with the vehicle. I had to point out issue on the vehicle, bringing it back two times for a repair that should have been done the first time (after taking it to a collision repair shop and paying for a repair report, pointing out what was wrong and what should have been corrected the first time). They replaced the bumper, but… now failed to match up the paint to the rest of the vehicle, now I have to come back a fifth time to bring it back to get it fixed (paint match up to rest of the vehicle).

But… it doesn’t stop at that, you can never reach customer service because no one picks up, and when you ash to speak with someone in a management position, your inquiry goes unanswered. Now this is a business that's well known well established and supposed to be up on customer service satisfaction. I think not…. Photos have been provided so you can see the quality of their work or the disregard for prepping the vehicle before it is put out to Sales.

I’ve browsed CarMax before but it’s been maybe 10 years since then and it’s been so long because even back then the vehicles were very subpar as they are today. I thought I would give them another chance since it’s been so long. I didn't want to cross them off the list because of one bad experience 10 years ago however this experience in 2026 was even worse. It was a 12 year old car that was overpriced and cosmetically terrible. I’m talking about damages all over the body and tears in the leather interior seating, vehicle was dirty and legit looked like they just got it from a backyard auction and ran it through a gas station car wash. The only thing the car had going for itself is the low mileage for the year. I guess that’s what they figured would sell the car.

The worse part of the deal is that Carmax makes you pay for shipping that is non-refundable for a car that you may or probably will not want. Shipping ranges from $99-$1,500+. The pictures that they post online about “imperfections” did not cover even half of the imperfections. So I paid to have a car shipped to Carmax in Brandywine, MD and had to walk away because the car was terrible. Lost that money. They must be stopped.

Horrible customer service and horrible online quote. After putting everything in that they requested, my quote came out to 1200. Pay to have the car towed there after calling twice to ensure the quote would be taken, and get there for them to offer me 300. Horrible representative when I arrived after asking if I could have it picked up by another company who is paying more they said, 'idk it'll get towed eventually.' Would never recommend them to anyone. Waste of time. Could have had someone come to my front door and buy it for $500, but since they wouldn't even allow me to leave it for a few hours, it was sell it to them or pay for a tow.

The prices on CarMax are non-negotiable, meaning there’s no need to haggle. The site exclusively offers used vehicles. However, there are a moderate amount of cars with very low mileage. CarMax spends an average of 12 hours prepping each vehicle for purchase — each car must pass a 125-point inspection and undergo a thorough cleaning before being put up for sale.

      • Store-to-store shipping: CarMax has 200 locations nationwide. If you find a car online that you like, it can be shipped to any of CarMax’s locations for you to pick up.

      • 7-day guarantee: If you are dissatisfied with your car, no matter the reason, you can return it within seven days of purchase, no questions asked.

      • Multiple financing options: Customers can apply for financing through CarMax Auto Finance or several other third-party institutions. Options are available for those with weaker credit.

      • Extended service plans: You can protect your car by purchasing an extended service plan that will help you pay for repairs you may need down the road.

      • Filters to narrow down searches: Find the perfect car by selecting the right price, type, brand, year and location. You can also search using the “lifestyle” option, depending on whether you are outdoorsy, living in a big city or want a family car.

      • Test drive before buying: If you find a car online, that means it’s available at a CarMax location. You can test drive any car before buying.
