Had a battery problem while driving south of garden state parkway, called AAA, was towed out of the parkway, and was told to call back once dropped off, and I did and was told that I have to wait for an hour, 15 minutes for the next tow truck to show up and that was at 11pm on a dark strip mall. 10 minutes before the first scheduled arrival I called back to update the status of my service, and was told to wait another 45 minutes because the driver was rerouted to answer another emergency call. Are you kidding me? So my safety being on a dark area since 11pm to 1am is not an emergency. Do I have to wait for another hour in case there's another emergency somewhere? I have to call my daughter from home and drive for ten miles at 1:30 am to give me assistance because my cellphone is at a very low battery supply. No wonder more insurance companies offer towing services. I think it's to think about it.

AAA is saying that I have refused to pay for certain services in the past which is false. They claim that I showed fraudulent information. When they asked for all my id's I showed them Unless the military and DMV gave me improper id. I have always offered to pay if needed and I sent them a letter stating this. They have to told me not to reapply to their company. I have been honest and offered many times to pay for services if needed. I have gone above and beyond waiting for months instead of the 30 days they originally told me. They have abused me the customer and wrongly accused me of things that are NOT TRUE. I sent in a statement as they requested explaining my position and I am left feeling like a criminal. I have done NOTHING wrong. I suggest other people beware of AAA abuse towards customers so they will not have to have the horrible experience I have gone through.

They care only about profits and who can get to the top fast. Who sleep with who and etc. They should be shut down. I am sure there are other victims out there. I hope this does someone some good so they will AVOID AAA and go elsewhere. I have done this and am satisfied with who carried me now. Enough with this company that lies and cheats and refuses to pay back my AAA yearly dues I paid into and still no refund. They still owe me for a year's membership of premium. They are also thieves. Do not buy a AAA. Battery is overpriced and will last about two years on average. Although the battery still under warranty the service company will perform a test where the car electrical system is draining the battery. Of course this is not true. They do not want to exchange the battery. First it happen with my 2010 pickup, although I must say that the technician change the battery because he knew that my electrical system was ok although the test said it wasn't. My other car 2008 went thru the same problem battery two and a half years old. My car had an electrical problem the test stated.

I'm not bothering with AAA anymore although the battery still under warranty. I will buy a battery some place else. What these people do not know is that I performed a test on my car for parasitic electrical drain and it came back numerous time at 25 milliamperes which is normal draw when the car is off, the computer alone will draw this. I work on muscle cars as a hobby and know a thing or two about mechanics. Bottom line is a scam. Buy your battery elsewhere. I will not renew.

Today I called AAA at 1:50 pm and was off the phone by 2. I was told a truck would get to me by no later than 3:00. 30 minutes later I get a call asking if my truck was a Dually.. They had yet to contact anyone after 30 minutes. 20 minutes later I get a automated call telling me they wouldn't be there until 3:58. By the time 4:15 came around I was beyond frustrated and still no truck and no new info. I call in and they tell me that they will be there by 4:40.

Finally the truck arrives at 4:30 and I get my truck loaded on. We finally get it to the shop an hour before they close and at this point it was too late for them to do any work. So basically AAA screwed me over here and ruined my whole day because now I won't be getting my truck even looked at till Monday and work won't be started then rather than getting it looked at today and work starting today/Monday.

I have been waiting for 2 hours for a pick up that was promised for an hour. Each time I called back to inquire, I was told that AAA was trying to contact the tow truck driver to get a better estimate of his arrival. I waited for an hour and no one ever called me. Finally, I looked up the company phone number and contacted the driver directly. If I could give less than a star, I would. A police officer came by and took me to the police department because the area where my vehicle stopped working was not dark and not safe. I'm very disappointed in their complete lack of concern for my well being, or the truth. The driver told me it would have been honest for them to tell me it will be a 2-3 hour wait. If I had known that I would have let the police officer call a tow truck - he said his would arrive in 15 minutes.

I had been a customer of AAA for many years. After a bad experience I canceled my subscription. Owning some classic cars and receiving many solicitations from AAA I called them citing concerns I had previously. After assuaging my concerns I canceled my towing service that I held with my classic insurance to save me a little money. Buyer beware! I had a car break down and towed to a "supposedly" good shop only to find the gent was subbing out all the work and the price was as you would expect from sub-contracting; gouged. I found another shop about 5 miles down the road and when the tow driver called to verify advised I needed to pay $75.00.

When I called AAA initially for the tow, the girl was new because I could hear her supervisor in the back telling her what to say, neglecting to note the fee; which I might add was one of my questions prior to renewing with AAA. Needless to say after five phone calls and a flagrant disregard for any miss-steps on their part I ended up paying over $100.00 to tow my car. They never returned my calls and switched me from person to person. I will be canceling my subscription once and for all after it expires. There are far better companies out there.

On Tuesday May 26th 2015 I went online to request tow services for my wife's vehicle after the starter had failed. I went online and received confirmation at 7:48 AM, at @9:15 AM after not receiving a phone call from AAA (which is normal procedure) or the tow truck contractor A Z TOWING, Columbia Maryland (which is standard procedure) I decided to call to follow up with AAA. I was told that the contractor had came and left and that both parties AAA and A Z Towing had called me as well and could not reach therefore the Tow Truck had left, neither of these is factual, you received no phone calls from either party, in fact I was then told that the contractor could not verify or find my address, (they have been in this community many many many times, they have assisted me at least twice, same company, same trucks).

Now after being lied to by AAA, having to wait another hour and some minutes the contractor shows up, pulls right by my vehicle as if he lived in the community himself, sat in his tow truck for 3 to 5 minutes until finally I addressed him and advised the driver that they were over two hours late and we needed to get the vehicle on the tow truck and taken to the maintenance facility less than 4 miles away, the driver advises me not to address him and tells me he will leave. I walked away, got into my vehicle to assist him in getting the vehicle securely on the truck (release the brake, steer as directed). The driver comes to me with his phone and hands it to me advising that AAA wanted to speak with me.

After waiting over two hours now he wants me to speak with them regarding the matter, after a brief conversation which I ended, again after I have been lied to by AAA and advising the driver this was not his fault personally they told the driver/contractor NOT to assist me, services that I have paid for. I have been disrespected, lied to, insulted, misled by AAA. After making several calls, speaking with "supervisors" trying to get resolution I was told that they would not offer me services that I have paid for in the form of annual membership dues.

I have been addressed and spoken to as if I were a customer who did not matter and as a business owner myself I find this unacceptable. I had to pay another tow truck provider $75.00 to tow my vehicle 4 miles, I have had my entire day consumed by this all because AAA dropped the ball at 7:48 in the morning and blatantly and boldly lied to a customer who has been with them over 10 years. My resolution? I am canceling my worthless AAA membership IMMEDIATELY and advising ANYONE who has had issues with this company to do so as well, they don't deserve my business.

Finally a police officer felt sorry for me and offered help. The second time I called, someone came in an hour to change my flat tire. Today, May 23, 2015, I called & have been sitting in my car for 2 hours so far with no help. When I called today, they told me someone would be here within an hour. On March 3, 2015 about 3 pm, my wife and I were traveling north on US highway 425 about 8 miles south of Star City AR. We were driving in a 31' motorhome towing a small car on a tow dolly. It was raining and a very poor time for a tire on the tow dolly to blow out. The highway in this area is quite narrow with marginal shoulders. After getting the unit stopped and emergency flasher lights working, a call was made for emergency road service at 1-800-AAA-HELP. We were transferred to the Arkansas district of AAA for assistance. Much to our dismay, the AAA road service indicated they would be unable to provide service to us at that time as our plan did not cover this type of problem in Arkansas. The representative was less than helpful with about all we got out of that call was a phone number of a service in Star City that may be able to help. That phone number proved to be an incorrect phone number.

At this point we were on our own, just the reason we belonged to AAA since 1997 not to find ourselves in this situation. Fortunately a highway patrol man happened to be travelling south from Little Rock to Monticello, AR. He turned around, stopped, and asked what our problem was and could he help. Once he fully understood our predicament he got busy. He contacted a road service in Monticello and arranged for that service to come to resolve our problem. He made sure we had all the contact information we needed concerning the service provider and gave us his phone number, indicating that if the problem did not get resolved to give him a call. His total time with us was about 30 minutes and most of that was in the rain.

The final result was that the service provider did get to us within less than an hour and had us on our way shortly thereafter. That service provider, Dan’s Tire and Exhaust, was most professional and helpful. The individual was **. We continued on to a small RV park outside of Pine Bluff and continued to our destination the next day.

This was just the beginning of a series of events with AAA that now has us wondering why we kept up this membership for so many years. On return home on the 10th of March, I contacted AAA Ok at 1-877-222-1206 and advised the representative (sorry don’t have a name) of this occurrence. The response was one of surprise that such an event had occurred and that AAA would look into the matter. She asked if we wished to file a complaint against the AAA Arkansas office that provided no service to an AAA customer. She also indicated that AAA would reimburse us for the expenses that were part of the road service provided. All we had to do was download a claim form from your website and mail it along with the original invoice. The form and invoice was mailed on the 11th of March to the above office address.

On or about March 18, 2015 we received a phone call late in the afternoon. The individual indicated she was with AAA and understood I wanted to speak to someone from the office. I explained that yes I had asked that a follow-up call be made to me to determine the status of my complaint. Her response was that tow dollies were not covered under our policy and nothing else would be done. This was certainly not our understanding as AAA has provided tire service for this particular tow dolly while we were in Florida in 2013. There was never a question from the service provider. As of this date no other communications have been had with AAA. If the claim has been disallowed one would expect that the original invoice would be returned to the sender.

As a result of this situation I once again reviewed my files to determine if I should have realized that I was not covered by a road service program, rather a highly designed group of services for the traveler. In review of the original documentation that describes the benefits, a single page document that includes an application for membership, the salesman proudly points out that “when your car won’t run”: 24 hour toll-free number for road service anywhere in the USA, tire changing service, towing service, starting your disabled car, out of gas service, lock and key service.

Our experience in the past has been satisfactory and we have enjoyed the (false) piece of mind that if trouble occurred AAA would be there to help. Further investigation of our online membership fails to indicate what type of vehicles we have or what ones are covered. In reading the really fine wording in a document titled “Safe on the road and help when you need it” all sorts of exceptions are taken regarding our RV, which is the prime vehicle we wanted covered by AAA.

For example. 1) Under eligible Vehicles, “Service applies to four-wheeled motor driven vehicles of the passenger, pleasure or recreational type.” It then indicates in the next paragraph that “Dual wheel campers/motor homes are eligible for all services except towing, extrication/winching and tire service.” It would, therefore, appear that the only coverage we have on our motorhome, being that it is a dual wheel vehicle is help in starting it, bringing gas should we be out and lock and key service is provided under our policy. 2) Emergency Services. The following emergency series will be provided to place our vehicle in a drivable condition. If these attempts are unsuccessful after reasonable effort by the service provider, the towing provision will apply. NOT IF WE HAVE DUAL WHEEL VEHICLES, SEE ABOVE.

    3) Flat Tire. If your vehicle’s spare tire is inflated and serviceable, it will be installed to replace a flat tire. If no inflated spare is available, the vehicle will be towed in accordance with the towing provision. NOT IF WE HAVE DUAL WHEEL VEHICLES, SEE ABOVE. 4) Towing Services. This is of interest. In instances when your vehicle becomes disabled while towing a light duty trailer, service will be provided for the trailer (excludes fifth wheel trailers). FIFTH WHEELED TRAILERS IN MANY CASES ARE RV’S SO THIS EXCLUDES THAT FORM OF RECREATIONAL VEHICLE.

The above exemptions further confused us with the coverage with our policy. We have in the past had three or four situations where the rear wheel tire of our motorhome has failed. In all cases a call to AAA resulted in some measure of coverage, but in all cases did get us back on the road. That is why we continued coverage with AAA. However, now with the most recent situation which was extremely dangerous due to weather conditions and being on a busy two-lane road with no shoulders are we now to expect this limited scope of service from AAA.

What is expected from this letter? As a minimum, an apology for putting us in this position with no help being offered by AAA and a return of the original invoice for the service provided. Any more would be an effort on the part of AAA to maintain a long-term customer. It is my opinion that the literature used for selling this policy is false advertising. The customer really doesn’t have complete road coverage, if they are in a vehicle outside the narrow description provided. AAA knew we had a motorhome or if they didn’t then that should be a question asked to assure the policy covered the customers’ needs.

AAA didn’t have any problem of updating my policy from a standard policy to an AAA plus level, due to improved undefined coverage for travel trailers, campers, motorhomes, and motorcycles. Certainly any automobile insurance policy clearly defines the vehicle covered. One item that I failed to list in the chronology of the events is that shortly before receiving the only returned call a notice of policy premium being due arrived. It appears my credit card on file had expired and I was being asked to update that information on line so the policy can automatically be renewed.

When I saw the location of AAA Thunderbird Road, AZ I realized that I had a bad taste in my mouth from a prior visit 15 years ago. I had just returned to the Valley from NY and my alternator went out on my car. I priced the alternator from the very company that they purchased it from, (O'Reilly's Auto Parts), and they DID NOT HAVE ONE priced higher than 169.00! I discussed the price I was being charged for the part (285.21), with the "service dept. **," he told me the computer spits out the price, they cannot change it. I thought that to be unbelievable and reasoned with him. I felt as if a 110% markup was, "gouging." He gave me a discount of 20.00… I told him I had to have the car fixed, but that I would take up the "price gouging" with the manager.

I spoke to **, the manager the following day. He had the audacity to repeat himself many, many times, insisting that the price is "marked up" accordingly due to the 2 year guarantee and the "free" tow which I received that did not count against my yearly quote of tow's with my Premiere AAA Subscription. Utterly ABSURD!!! I explained; "If I get a 'free' tow with the service or repair, why then, would it be 'padded' into the 'markup' of the part?"

I continued with, "In addition, if I have a guarantee of two years warranty on the part, why then would I be charged within the price of the part? Is it not a guarantee, (free), and a free tow with service or repair, making it 'free' not costly through part price padding!!!" He said there was nothing he could do, it is the way it is and he was not going to change the price. He insisted that he could NOT change the price and that it is "marked up" due to the cost of running a shop, electric, staff and so on. Again, UTTERLY ABSURD!! Thank you for taking this concern for fairness.

Each time I was told that the battery is fine and "would you like to purchase a new battery?" I called AAA to make a complaint and was routed thru their system. I ultimately spoke to a customer relations supervisor who told me that the battery test would have to reflect the battery as "defective" to have it replaced for free per the AAA warranty. His records showed the battery as testing "normal" each time. He stated that "perhaps there was something in my car that was affecting the battery?"

I have regular maintenance performed on my car. There were and are no issues. I have been a loyal AAA customer over 13+ years. I never had an issue until now. Wait time for roadside service has been 2 to 3 hours. This is not reasonable and puts the consumer in danger of injury or worse. When AAA customer service was contacted they just stated that we are experiencing long wait time in that particular area without an acceptable solution. Upon arrival, they were given several opportunities to replace my defective battery but continued to point the finger at the alternator. Independent testing discovered a bad cell in the AAA battery which after submitting documentation, they offered a very small percentage of the replacement cost.

This was done after much discussion and haggling over the phone as they reverted to fine print and company policy. They must be formally trained in "spin" 101! Please be aware of this inferior customer service as AAA neither made any reasonable attempt to resolve my predicament in a timely fashion, nor did they and returned my call. My final out-of-pocket cost was over $450 dollars to resolve the problem through my dealership but could have easily been resolved by AAA replacing the battery. The car was in the garage and I called AAA and they told me it's against their policy. What am I paying for if they won't tow my cars. I had to pay the guy $100 to tow it! I'm dropping them.

I received notice that my premiums were increased due to 2 accidents. The first so called accident, the car was parked, motor off, keys in hand, when I opened door a gust of wind came so strong out of nowhere and the car door flung wide open and hit the car parked next to me, putting a small dent in their car. This occurred Oct 2014. I had put my daughter on my policy until she qualified to get her own when she had an accident in Nov 2014. My renewal date is April 2015. I have a 1999 Jeep and carried liability only for the past few years. She had a 2009 Dodge with full coverage. My premium was $500.00 a year. Hers was $800.00.

When I got the renewal notice my premium went to $976.00. I called of course and it was because the adjuster said there were 2 accidents. I explained my October accident - that's what she called it, an accident. I have no control over the wind. Anyway my daughter got her own insurance and I was told this time when I called my premiums went down to $559.00 because my daughter was removed. I pay monthly and the lady said my payments would be $51.00 a month. Right then she took one payment with my permission.

Today the 22 April I get 2 letters from them. One stating my bill was raised up to 563.00 to April 2015. The other letter says 976.00 to April 2016. I am so frustrated I'm not sure if anyone reading this can make heads or tails what I'm talking about but I was just under the impression that my total bill for me would be about $51.00 a month. By the way did I mention I have been a customer for 37 years. They also have my homeowners insurance. Now they tell me since payment was not paid I was cancelled on the 20th of April. What????

I was stranded on a junkyard parking lot with my brother. We were getting parts for my BMW and they immediately assumed that the car was back there at the moment. I explained to them that I didn't buy it there, that we were there to look for parts for my BMW. They sent somebody and I guess that was the person that determined for them. Never called me back. I kept calling to see where the status was that they lied. They said they were looking for a flatbed. Never called me back. Every time I called they had an excuse. They made me wait about 3 hours before they told me they were not going to be able to tow my car home. I have to pay out of my pocket for another tow truck to come in bring my car home.

Their service has gotten so ridiculously awful that it's not reliable...like about a month later my brother's friend's truck needed to be towed from my brother's house to another location. They asked me if I can call Triple A for them. They're both death hard of hearing. Triple A was told that this truck needed a flatbed. When the call was placed they sent the wrong one. Then I kept calling them back and they repeated the same exact procedure they did with me when I was stranded. They started to say that because it was a truck, that he had stuff in the back which was only a bike and some stuffed animals. Kept giving me the runaround. Never serviced him. Call me back about 4 hours later and still didn't take the car to its destination. Very unhappy.

I just cancelled my membership after 8 years being a member. I had a bad experience yesterday (Sunday) when I needed roadside assistance. My request for a tow truck took longer than the original estimate of 45 mins, then went past the next estimate of 20 additional minutes. When I called back for the third time, I was put on hold for 10 minutes then I hung up. I was able to Google a tow truck and have them respond in 35 mins.

No one ever kept me abreast of the timeline during my wait; not the tow truck company nor the AAA roadside people. I had been under the impression that AAA was best for me and my family in a time of need (like a Sunday when your car has broken down). When I checked today, the membership services people said that there were no notes on my account from yesterday despite the fact that the roadside people said that they would make a note about my experience and displeasure.

After an accident where my vehicle ended up in a 4-5 foot deep ditch, I of course needed to have it repaired for some suspension damage, both side airbags deploying which ripped the headliner off the roof and a decent dent in the front bumper. I chose to go with the first shop they recommend from their certified repair shops and was given a 2 week estimate on the repairs. When 2 weeks had passed I had not heard anything from repair shop or AAA, so I went to the repair shop to find out what was going on. I find out that they could not do the repairs and outsourced it to another shop 4 days after they received my vehicle, which as I was then told was standard practice.

However after 11 days, they had still not received the estimate from the other shop which is right next door. So after that plus numerous other delays because the air bag module had to be shipped by ground. Then they forgot to order a different part - it has now been 32 days with zero work being done on my vehicle and another 11 until it's actually fixed. So I call the claims department and a supervisor calls me the next day after talking to the repair shop. So I tried to tell her the situation with the delays and numerous different stories. However she just dismissed what I was saying and that she was making a note about what the shop told her into the computer and that was what AAA was going to go by.

Insurance is supposed to work for the insured person, that is what we pay our premium for, not so they can automatically agree with and take the side of the people I'm having a dispute with, then dismiss what I'm trying to tell them and blow me off. I can't believe how unprofessional I have been treated by not only the repair shops but by my own insurance company.

I have been a Member of AAA for 25 years. Over that time I have used them for an occasional tire change or battery jump start. Yesterday I called due to a dead battery. Waited an hour for service. Technician tested the battery which was completely drained and instead of replacing it, told me to get an electrical diagnostic on my car, claiming my electrical system drained the battery. It was a battery installed by AAA less than five months ago. He also insisted I must have left the lights on overnight or something. They were set on automatic and were definitely not left on. So, instead of replacing the battery, he jump started it and said I needed a written report that the electrical system is OK. I had the car into the Cadillac dealership less than a month before for oil change, new wipers, etc. at which time a complete diagnostic was performed. There were no electrical issues present.

However that paperwork was not in the car therefore he insisted I need a written statement before he would replace the 5 month old battery. I drove to the dealership where the car was purchased and all warranty had been performed and asked them to do the diagnostic test. It is now 5:45 on Friday night and they close at 6:00. The only reason they even took my car in was because of my history there as a loyal customer. After the car checked out fine I called AAA again for the new battery. The girl I spoke to said, "Do you have it in writing?" I said "yes", then she said the technician wrote on his report that I needed to have the battery charged for 5 hours before he would come back. Something he NEVER said to me. When I tried to tell her that, she got nasty and indignant. I asked for her name which she said was **, probably fictitious.

I then asked to speak to a supervisor and she hung up. I called back and of course got another AAA representative and went through the the whole story again. She promised someone would be out within the hour. I waited, no one showed up. Called again, another agent, same story, so sorry for your inconvenience, someone will be out within the hour. This scenario went on with 12 different calls and 4 1/2 hours of waiting. Finally a supervisor informed me they can't get anyone out anymore. I am waiting in the dark in a parking lot until 8:30 at night. Finally someone from the dealership offered to jump my car to get me home as it was pretty obvious AAA was not coming back to help me. I am a single woman, 68 years old, 25 years with AAA and they hung me out to dry!

I am through with them but I will contact every Better Business bureau and customer satisfaction rating site there is. I will take this to the Board of Directors of AAA. There is no reason anyone should have to go through what I did. There are other roadside assistance companies through AARP Hartford insurance and others. I hope all who read this will check them out and discontinue using this poor excuse for a business. After reading the other posts here, I don't know why they are still in business.

I signed up with AAA insurance when I got a new vehicle. The agent seemed very nice and got me signed up with liability and renters insurance claiming they were the cheapest. I asked questions and he answered what seemed with knowledge. He told me it would be about $400 up front and 7 payments of $81 and that I could add my fiance once he received his actual DL instead of permit. He also told me he was my agent to contact with any changes.

I received my first bill and paid over the $81 that was billed. When my second bill came it was $92! I called my "agent" for him to tell me he couldn't help me with my bill question or adding my fiance to policy and gave me a different number. I was told adding my fiance would be an additional $735 a year and the bill increase was a finance charge I should have been told about which I wasn't. Needless to say I found a new company that covered me and my fiance both with full coverage with roadside/rental car coverage and renters for $734 a year!

I called AAA for cancellation of my policy immediately. Of course there had to be something else - I was then informed I would be charged an 11% cancellation fee which I was supposed to be told about by agent (again I wasn't) and somehow it came out that I got a refund of a whole $80!!!! These people are shady and rude, as well as a piss poor excuse as a business!

The reason they gave was because my repairman works at an auto salvage yard! I told them who cares, he's a good mechanic. I told them “I don't care if he sell Roses on the side of the road in his spare time.” Why does AAA get to pick who works on my care or they won't tow it? I'm pretty surprised to read all the negative reviews here. I've been a member for 35-40 years and have NEVER had a single problem with AAA. They have jumped the battery, changed tires, fixed flats, etc. In 2005, my battery was dead. They sent the battery truck and promptly replaced my battery for $100. Ten years later, driving on the AAA battery, my car would not start. I called AAA. They gave me a two-hour waiting period. In one hour, they were here. The tech checked everything and said the battery would not hold the charge and I needed a new one. NO CHARGE.

He apologized for not being able to speak to AAA for me and said I needed to call them back and ask for the battery truck. They gave me a one-hour window. Less than 30 minutes later, the battery truck showed up. He was clean and polite, did some tests and said yes, I needed a battery. Fifteen minutes later, he completed the task, took my CC number and I was on the road. What GREAT service!!!!!

I've had AAA vehicle insurance for several years. They seem to have excellent rates but that's about it. At one time, when my truck stalled in frigid weather, I tried to get help from them and couldn't even get through. I finally ended up with the local police department having a tow truck come out to get me out of the middle of a parking lot I was blocking.

Having had the above experience, I wasn't even going to renew the roadside assistance but was told by them that to keep my insurance I had to. $80 later I never did receive an updated card with a new account number--which I didn't even know I needed until yesterday. Yesterday, I called to have my vehicle towed to a repair shop. I've needed a new clutch for quite some time and, while sitting in my driveway, the battery in the truck totally died.

In the meantime the tags have expired. Calling AAA this time I come to find out that they WON'T tow your vehicle if your plates are current. As such, in addition to the $80 I paid for their worthless coverage, I had to pay $69 to a towing company to have my truck towed so I could get it fixed to get it inspected to then be able to get the updated plate tags.

I've never been impressed by their road service in the past and, in present, it really sucks too. I'm looking for new insurance, at least comparable to what I'm paying them though, admittedly, I may not be able to find it so there may be no other choice but to put up with their crappy service. Still, I opted to write this so anyone considering AAA will at least know what they are in for.

What would be so wrong to have an app like a Über app where tow companies bid for a tow job? This would lower prices and provide more efficient service. It would also allow members to monitor road progress made by the tow company. I rarely have breakdowns but when I do, AAA does very little to give me a good experience. And, might I add I have been a AAA member for over 25 years. A pathetic state of affairs!

My car battery had died due to the extreme cold temperatures, and so I called AAA to get a battery technician to come out to jump start and check it to make sure that the battery was still good. I called and placed my service request at 3:18 PM on Sunday February 22nd. The lady I spoke with informed me that the tech may be out by 6:18 PM but possibly sooner. When 7 pm rolled around, I called AAA and the lady I spoke with said that she couldn't guarantee what time anyone would be out. Around 9:30 pm I get a call saying that someone may not be out until midnight, but then around 1130 pm I get a call back saying that no one would be out that night and that they can come first thing in the morning.

Well, with how "reliable" AAA has been I made plans to get to work the next morning, and told the girl that I need someone to come after 5, and so we set it for 6 pm on the 23rd. Called back the next day to re-schedule for 5:30, and she said that she couldn't make any guarantees but she would mark it. When no one had come by 7 pm I just had another person jump it, they had a truck, and I drove to Advanced Auto Parts to check the battery. I then tried calling to cancel the battery tech, since my car was now operational, but after waiting on hold for over an hour I hung up.

Then they called on 2/24 around 10 am to say that a tech was there and to meet them. The one time I could actually answer the call, it was a voice automated call, so how was I supposed to tell them that I am fine now, and to send the tech on his/her way? Then one voicemail that I was able to listen to later, a girl from AAA said that the tech had waited 20 minutes and would need to leave. Just unbelievable service from them. Maybe if wait times to cancel an appointment didn't take over an hour, that tech could have gone to someone else for help. Maybe if your online system to check your road side service actually showed my incident this could have been resolved sooner. Thanks for making me feel like a valued member. Needless to say, I will not be with AAA next year.

I have had AAA since 2007 when my wife got pregnant. We have had to use them a few times and until the last year, we're glad to have the piece of mind. Tried to have a car towed today, am four hour in, and no show from two towers. Wife blew a tire a year ago during a storm (know they would be busy then) and they said 4 hours to help a woman a 3 year old on the side of the highway. What is the point? Crappy response and everyone blames each other.

Was charged a reinstatement fee! A 23% CHARGE! That is excessive and wrong in light of my long term membership. I begrudgingly got a card for my daughter but it will only be for one year. I don't intend to use AAA again with that kind of treatment for a loyal customer.

I called AAA roadside service at 4:22 pm. After being on hold for about 15 minutes, a representative finally answered. I gave her the information and was told a truck would be by to the car between then and 7:10. I said "Wow, okay thank you." She said someone would call 5 minutes before arrival. Needless to say 7:10 came and went with no truck and no call. I called back about 7:15, waited on hold again to be told that basically because the car was in a driveway, it wasn't a priority. I understand taking care of emergency calls first, but 3 hours with not even a phone call is awful customer service! Anyway I was then told that a dispatcher would call with an estimated time of arrival. That was 45 minutes ago and still no call. I am so disappointed with AAA customer service. I am seriously considering canceling my membership as well as the gift memberships I have for my husband and son. :(

Unknown to me they mistakenly entered my initial yearly payment for my daughter and myself and CX my policy. Never called me nothing and it was all their error. HOW DID I FIND OUT - my daughter broke down on the side of the road 6 months into our contract and they wouldn't assist her. I was furious, spent the next 4 days figuring what was going on. Their reps were rude and kept you on hold for lengths of 20 mins several times a conversation. I also wrote a letter to NO avail. They don't correct their own mistakes. I highly recommend going through another company for roadside.

Called and spoke to a manager and they said they don't have anybody. I called 3 tow services and in 3 calls and 2 minutes I had someone coming out within 15 minutes. This service is not worth it. If that's all you are is a glorified dispatcher, I can do my own calling. Your company's phone support is not empathetic and in fact rude and disrespectful. We were called around 2:00 pm and told approximate time would be 2:28, so went to vehicle location ten minutes prior to that time and 45 minutes later, no one had come. We called again at 3:00 and ended up speaking to a customer relations agent and they said they would expedite a service call and be there 1/2 hour, they also said that a message had been left (which would have to have been in the ten minute window). At about 4:00, we received help from a friend and returned home. Then around 6:15, we received a message saying they would be there at 6:40 pm. Received a call from a driver at approx. 6:30 and told him we would no longer need service.

All the calls that we made to AAA after the initial call, we were on hold for 10 minutes or longer. My wife even tried to call AAA to tell them we no longer needed a service call (through the main menu) and was told a 10 to 15 minute wait to speak with an agent. We are finished with AAA.

This incident happened Easter, 2012. I had signed up for AAA several months earlier after accidentally locking my keys in my car at a Target store. A friend had picked up my second set of keys at my house & brought them to me. She was annoyed and insisted I sign up for AAA so it would not happen again. Soooo - I signed up! I requested to be the primary, with NO secondary, as my husband was usually out of town on business & drove rental cars to get to & from the airport.

I had no reason to call for help until Easter 2012 when my 80+ year old mother thought she had locked both her keys & her wallet in her car, parked at my daughter's house (we were there for Easter dinner). I called AAA to send someone to come & unlock the car. I gave them my membership number, and was told 'Sorry, you are not the Primary, & we must speak to the primary." I explained that I WAS the primary and there was no secondary. They argued with me, saying my husband was the primary. We went round & round about this, with my explaining (again) why I did NOT put my husband's name on the policy (& yes, he was out of town, even on Easter).

My mother then said "Wait, I am also a triple A customer!" The only problem was she did not have her policy # because it was in her wallet (locked in the car)! I asked why they couldn't look up her number? They gave a lame excuse (I think they said they could not look up the number because my Mother lived in Indiana, whereas we were calling from a house in Illinois). WHAT??? AAA only helps you out if your car breaks down or you lose your keys while in your home state??!! We gave up & found someone on our own to unlock the car & retrieve the wallet & keys.

The following week, I tried to cancel my policy, explaining what had happened. They said they could not cancel the policy because it was paid up for the year. I requested that I be put on as the primary, but they said they could only add me as the secondary, but would correct the error when the policy was renewed. When I received the bill for renewal a few months later, guess what? The policy was still in my husband's name ONLY!! I cancelled and told them to stop sending me their promotions. Guess what I received in the mail yesterday - another AAA promotion!! It went straight to the garbage can. I apologize that I do not have an exact date or order number, as this occurred Easter Sunday, 2012.

I finally brought it to a mechanic who knows something, and said they installed a battery for a V4 engine, while I have a V6 engine - bingo! AAA is refusing to honor the warranty, states it is actually a 3 year warranty and it is irrelevant that they clearly installed the incorrect product. Absolutely abysmal. AAA sent out a tow truck company called C&M Towing (located in Union, IL). The tech crossed the jumper cables, fried my battery and blew up my fuse box (550 in repairs + 113 in car rental). Driver shows up, hooks up cables, asks me to hold the box by the handle (I did) and starts the car. Car ‘horn’, not the alarm (because there is no alarm on the car) blares for 20-30 seconds straight. Driver of tow truck gets out, I ask him about it, he says "it wasn't supposed to happen." He says "the positive and negative are switched on the battery" which is not possible, seeing as how the battery came with the car (a 2009 Toyota Corolla bought directly from the dealer).

Sleazy driver claims to have no idea what happened. Drops my car and myself off at the dealership. Call AAA and tell them what happened. After getting two different estimates from two different shops, both saying the same thing, the final verdict is "well it's not up to us to pay because we're (AAA) not responsible, it's up to the tow company to decide if they want to pay, otherwise it goes to an insurance claim or small claims court". Point? Avoid AAA like the plague. Do not entrust these derelicts with the safety of you and yours or the well being of your vehicle.

That would put my son alone until midnight. I decided to call another tow company but thinking I would be hard pressed to find anyone that could beat AAA's response time. Boy was I wrong.

The first towing company I called said they could be there in 30 minutes, but actually arrived in 20. If AAA cannot support its current membership they should reduce it or find additional contractors. A 3 hour wait is the poorest customer service imaginable and put my son in a potential dangerous situation. Sure, AAA will reimburse me for what I paid, but that isn't the issue. It's quite evident AAA has failed to secure sufficient help to cover their membership at least in Western Washington. By doing this, they have proven they are willing to put the safety of their members in jeopardy. If you are concerned only about money, AAA might be the way to go. But if you are concerned about the safety of your family members don't waste your money or time on AAA.

My son came in the kitchen and said "That guy has been standing in the same spot for 30 minutes, he's doing something to the car by the trunk". I looked out and saw him as well standing there. Well when I got my car back I noticed a ding that had been repaired with white finger nail polish. I had NO ding on my car previously. My vehicle is a classic and I take good care of it. I hardly ever drive it. After he painted the ding he took another 30 minutes to put my car on the flat bed.

I called AAA and was told they would take it from there and gave me a case number. I called AAA back because I did not get a call back. AAA told me to call them S.S Towing so I did. They told me they would be out that Friday & that someone would be coming out to look at my car. I spoke to the manager named Danny. On Friday I did not get a call. No one showed up after waiting all day. When I called them back on that Monday, They told me they had the wrong number. I wonder why they didn't call AAA for my phone number or just came out without calling me. I was expecting them.

They came out a week later. Two guys’ came out & took pictures. The short chubby guy was looking all over my car. I said the ding is on the right side. He was looking for more dings like I don't take care of my car. I told him I HAD NO DINGS ON MY CAR UNTIL YOUR WORKER PUT ONE ON MY CAR. I was told someone in their office would call me back. No one called me back. After a week I called them. I was told by a female "We can't talk to you".

My car still has not been repaired. We have witnesses and I would like my car repaired. They lied about the following. They said they called me several times. I can prove they did not by my cell phone bill. They said he was only at my house for 25 minutes when he was at my home for 1 hour. I have 5 witnesses. They said I did not let them take pictures. I had to keep calling to get them to come out. I have a witness for this also. They said my car has 5 chips. I have the only one that they did. Anyone can see for their self. I can't believe they would lie like this when I have proof available upon request. I take good care of my classic. AAA sent them. I was told I would have to deal with SST because they are contracted. Had a dead battery in my SUV. AAA in Mt. Pleasant, SC drove out and replaced it. Within a year, it was dead again. I went to my regular mechanic thinking I had a bad alternator or electrical drain. They checked it and found that the battery provided by AAA was too small and did not meet the car manufacturer's spec. As I needed the car back, I had them put the spec battery in the car. I immediately called AAA and while not very helpful, they mailed me a claim reimbursement form a month later.

After another month, I received a form letter denying my claim because I had the battery replaced by someone else. A couple months later, when we did not renew membership, we get a call asking why. When we explain the situation, they say they'll try to help. The garage that contracts for AAA, asked if we had the old battery. When he found out that my mechanic disposed of the AAA battery after a couple months, he said they could not do anything. Do yourself a favour, buy a set of jumper cables, get roadside assistance from your insurance company for less money and NEVER let AAA touch your car as they will not back up their service or products.

PREMIER MEMBER... What a joke! Truck broke down at 8:25 PM on a freezing cold night. I call AAA and am told someone would update me within 15 minutes. 25 minutes later, I call them, tell them it's freezing cold, and nobody has contacted me. I'm told the tow service was busy on another call and would contact me soon. I said I'm freezing out here and his reply is, "Sir, if you feel you're in danger, call 911." WHAT???? This is Premier service?? 9:38 I call again... "Sir, a truck is going to be there by 9:35." Oh wait, it's 9:38. "They should be there anytime." 9:50... A passerby kindly stops and I tell him AAA said at 8:30 help was on the way. He laughs out loud and after trying to boost me off, tows me to a shop with his pickup, then takes me home.

I call AAA when I get home at 10:25, and the lady tells me the tow service denied the call and they were contacting another one. I told her to forget it, as a passerby towed me. She says, "So you want me to cancel this tow????" Duh!!! I angrily tell her I could have frozen to death and hung up. Two minutes later AAA calls to tell me a truck will arrive by 11:30, and that the service that had accepted the call then denied it. This was in the middle of town, and not in the middle of nowhere!! I told her I was already home and my truck was towed by a passerby. I have been a member for years, but am done with AAA!!!! Their service is non-existent!!!

After waiting for over an hour for assistance, a AAA employee appeared, was told by our bus driver about the dead battery. This AAA employee was UNABLE to jump-start the bus!! Actually, he DIDN'T even try!! What kind of employee who answers distress calls from subscribers doesn't know how to jump-start a vehicle? AAA is useless.

Received brief one line email from someone more than a week late saying "Sorry..." That's it. No effort to make it up to me whatsoever.

Third strike - left again needing a jump because secondary membership was cancelled (received $62 refund on a $149 membership) and apparently they cancelled both memberships. No refund on primary membership dues remaining $80+. What happened to AAA member services?! How can people rely on the unreliable? After getting the permit, when I left their office, I left the passport at their office and they did not bother to call me although I have given my phone number in my application form. Instead, they found my email ID and just emailed me just few minutes after I left. As I had my flight that day at 11 PM, I was checking my documents at 6 PM and I found I have lost my passport, but did not realize I left it at their office. We searched for about 2 hours, frantic search we did including the places I have been, AAA Parking lots as they were closed and I finally gave up. And then when I logged into my computer, I saw their email and by the time I got this email and called them, they are already closed at 5 PM and customer service could not help me.

I wish they had just called me instead of emailing me as this is a US Passport. It is not just I lost half of the cost of the flight ticket, but the frantic search we did and missed the flight was horrible. I wish they had just called me instead of emailing me.

I am building a new motor for the car (it was broke down and unable to run). In Florida if you do not have insurance on the car to prevent your license from being suspended you have to surrender your tag. I purchased AAA premium membership on 12-3-2014 for the purpose the roadside assistance and to tow my Jetta to my mechanic shop. I found out that I could not tow my car without a tag in (Per AAA policy), which is fine. I then call AAA and cancelled my membership immediately without using any of my services (my membership was 5 days old). I was told that I would get a "full refund since I did not use any of the services on my membership and since it was so new, and it would take 7-10 business days."

Two weeks went by and I called them wondering were my refund was. I then was told that "my membership was never cancelled" I voiced my concern about the situation since it was the holidays and I planned on using that money on my family for gifts. I then spoke to a manager that reassured me that he would take care of everything because he was the supervisor of the escalation office. He then told me that there was nothing he could do but send information to the claims department and that I should call back the following Monday to make sure everything was in motion. I called that following Monday as instructed and no one could reach the "manager that approved my refund". I then followed up later that week and talked to a gentleman that told me that "my refund was approved and that I should receive "a check for my full amount."

I asked him why I would receive a check when I paid with my card. He told me "because of the amount and that was AAA policy" Saturday came and left and no check came, this now being after the holidays I called on Monday (this now being over 5 weeks after the initial 7-10 business days for the refund) and spoke to a woman named Heather. She told me that the guy I spoke to was wrong and that they would never send out a check for the refunded amount. I then asked her "is it AAA's policy to continually lie to their customers?!!"

I refused to get off the phone until I spoke to a manager. She then told me that the manager in charge of my refund (Shelly **) can't be reached again. I still refused to get off the phone until I talked to someone in that department. A man got on the phone and finally told me that the "refund was sent to the wrong department and I asked him why no one noticed that something that didn't belong in your department via fax, email etc. I then asked the man "what would have happened if I didn't keep calling your company..." I waited and he came up with no response. I then told him that "your company would have ripped me off is what would have happened!!" He then told me that "he would personally take care of this since the manager that is in charge of my refund was still unavailable..."

I am still waiting on my refund almost 6 weeks later. I want to make something clear, I am not upset that AAA didn't help me tow my car. I'm upset that as a company, as a whole, LIED to me over and over again. DO NOT use this company. I ignored ALL the bad reviews and gave them the benefit of the doubt because there are so many people that complain, I was wrong. What a terrible company and I will never use them again.

Then I had to deal with an irate member when in reality I only had the call at the most 30 mins. Then came the pay from AAA to the contractor. We used to get paid 19.00 base rate and 1.25 a mile after 5 miles to a call then 2.25 a mile after 10 miles in tow. So if you break that down as a company owner you make nothing after paying 35% commission to the driver "average pay to a driver" plus fuel plus insurance on the truck along with maintenance to the truck and any truck payments they may have. All I can say is consumers and business owners beware.

Called several times during this period to see what the issues was. Was told numerous times that the driver is a few minutes away or that he is outside and I should see him. Driver was clearly not there. Finally, several good Samaritans who had seen me waiting for so long offered to help me. One lady called her husband from home who came and he helped, the owner of the restaurant my wife was at was helping.

I called AAA one last time and reflected to them that I will fix this issue on my own. One lady (who is also a member of AAA) also called AAA in attempt to get assistance. Good Samaritans and I were working on getting the car open and a AAA driver then pulled up. He retrieved the keys in about 60 seconds. The driver overheard us talking regarding the wait and he pointed out that he received the dispatch 10 minutes earlier. The lady who was on the phone with AAA obtained the complaint line phone number and a reference number so I could address this issue with AAA.

The next morning, I contacted the complaint line and I walked the representative through the situation. I was essentially told "that's the way it is" and that she could note my complaint and have someone call me. I questioned how this resolves the issue for me and my concern with use of AAA services. She then reflected she will take the encounter off of my account as if it did not happen and won't count against my benefit. I again reflected this does not resolve my issue, especially considering I never use all of my AAA benefit each year anyway. The customer services rep and I became more and more agitated as our conversation progressed. She repeated herself over and over about noting the complaint.

I continued to point out this does not resolve my issue. She then asked how I would like the issues resolved. I reflected I am unsure of the options (other than note a complaint) and gave an example of maybe making membership half price or something like that. To my comment, I then heard a group of people laughing in the background. I then asked to speak to her supervisor. She pointed out that her supervisor is not available. I reflected that now there is someone that is her superior that should be available when she is unable to resolve an issue. She agreed that there was but supervisor is not available. I realized continuing was pointless, laughed, and said good bye.

I would give no stars if that option was available. I have had AAA for many years and was a AAA Plus member. My son wrecked his car in July and since we knew it would be a while before we could afford to get it fixed (and it was questionable whether it was repairable or not), we had the car towed to my residence. We have now realized that the car is not repairable so we called to get the car towed to a salvage yard. AAA refuses to tow to a salvage yard and states that their policy is to "only tow to a repair shop. " First, my home is not a "repair shop," but they towed the car there in July. Second, isn't a tow a tow, regardless of where the car is being taken? I called Customer Service and was treated in a rude manner.

If AAA really cared about their members, why would they refuse to tow a car to a salvage yard? Obviously they have a member who is already in a bad situation, and to make matters worse, instead of helping a member that they claim they care about, they refuse to tow the car to a location where their member might make a little money out of a bad situation. If they really cared about their members, they would change that policy and tow their member's cars that have been totaled to a salvage yard. Needless to say, I will not be renewing my membership, even though I have been a member for years.

I called AAA 3 days ago and the AAA worker took my credit card payment of $100.00 ($82.00 for Plus membership and $18.00 towards a $35.00 same-day service fee). AAA said that I should pay the remaining $17.00 of the same-day service fee to the tow truck driver. My car was to be towed 12 miles. Soon after towing began, the tow company owner called me and demanded $59.00. He said he wasn't making money on the tow and that he needed to make money on the tow. He asked if I understood that he needed to make money on the tow. I said yes, I understood, and that I made the agreement with AAA to pay his driver $17.00 cash, having already paid AAA $100.00

The tow company owner then asked if he could have AAA call me, and I said that yes, he could do that. When the tow truck driver's cell phone rang, he answered and indicated the caller was AAA before handing the phone to me. The person identified by the driver as a AAA worker demanded I pay more money. I denied that I had to pay more, as I had already paid $100.00 of the $117.00 total price of AAA Plus membership and same-day service fee, and that I would pay $17.00 to the tow truck driver, as directed by AAA.

The caller continued to demand more money, and I repeatedly refused to pay more than AAA told me was the price of Plus membership and same-day service. The caller then asked me to put the driver on the phone. I handed the phone to the driver, and as he talked with the caller, he drove the tow truck off the dark highway and onto the parking lot of a small shopping center where the stores were closed for the day.

A few moments later he hung up the phone and began driving the tow truck back onto the highway, and told me that the caller (identified as a AAA worker) told him to drop me off (end the towing) at that location (shopping center parking lot), instead of towing my car to the agreed upon destination, which at that time was about 2 miles away.

The tow truck driver then told me that he told the caller that he was "almost there" (the agreed upon destination of the 12-mile tow). Upon arrival at the destination, I paid $17.00 cash to the tow truck driver. The driver did not give me a receipt, and I did not ask for a receipt. As of today, the $17.00 cash that I paid to the driver has not been applied to my AAA account. All that shows is the $100.00 credit card payment that I made over the phone.

Today, AAA opened a complaint, and told me that the "numbers don't add up" and that it is not their policy to demand additional payment for towing when a tow is in process, and that any additional amounts due for towing are billed to a customer. The towing company owner and caller (identified as a AAA worker) demanded immediate payment of $59.00 more than AAA told me was the price of the membership and 12 mile tow, and the tow truck driver drove off a dark highway onto the parking lot of a small shopping center, because, according to the tow truck driver, the AAA worker told him to drop my car and leave me at that location, instead of driving to the destination. That was coercive. It felt like a threat. In effect, the message was - immediately pay $59.00 more, to the tow company's truck driver, or be dropped off along a dark highway 2 miles from your destination.

Wondering if the towing company AAA sent to tow my car routinely demands AAA customers immediately pay more money under threat of being dropped off/abandoned along a dark highway, I also wonder if the towing company routinely fails to give AAA customers receipts when cash is paid. I'm filing a complaint with the PA Bureau of Consumer Protection, and AAA has said that it will investigate my complaint, as well.

Offer water in the summer; nicest guys. The call center is another story. I think they advertise for rude people who just hang up when they feel the conversation is over. Also, I went in for an oil change at a AAA service center on Thunderbird Rd in Glendale, Az and they were rude there as well. Their loss, I will never get my oil changed there again.

I work at Safeway and we strive for exemplary customer service and I think that's why I may expect more out of my service experience, but when I'm paying good money, I think I absolutely deserve it! I renewed my membership ($85! Not cheap) and was told if I automatically renewed it would be $80 yearly. Not true. Only the first time. They don't know what they're talking about. I renewed anyway, in June and never got my new membership cards. I called Nov 1 and was told they would be mailed out. I called again today, Nov. 17th and Ebony told I had to wait till the 20th to call. I asked why it should take so long and where were they coming from. She said, "I don't know" and hung up. I pay her salary. I'll tell you what; come June, I will find another roadside assistance association no matter the cost!!!

My son called for a tow when stuck in the middle of nowhere in Oklahoma. After being stalled with "updates" for over 2 and a half hours, he calls again and AAA says they have no tow truck to send. They suggested he spend the night where he was - in a closed gas station in the middle of nowhere!! I called for a supervisor and get some rude guy (in New Jersey for heaven's sake), who says, "if he can't get a driver, he can't get a driver." I hit a deer while traveling in a remote area of Northern Minnesota, about 40 miles from my home. I called AAA at 7:20 in the evening and was on hold for an operator for 4 minutes. At that time a young woman assured me that she could help me only when I had given her an exact location, including cross streets. This is after dark, on a 2 lane highway where towns are sometimes 30 miles apart. She then told me I needed to walk to the closest mile marker so I could tell her which one was closest. I did inform her that I was exactly 4 miles south of the city of Hill City, Minnesota, and that the nearest towing company was most likely in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. At that time she became quite snippy as she informed me that they could "in no way" tow my car to Grand Rapids. She told me that I have "basic service that allows a 5 mile tow". I told her that my card says I have "plus coverage" and that I believed that I have 100 miles towing coverage. Then she went on to say that Michigan was over 100 miles. (Michigan????) When I set her straight about the state I was in, she proceeded to try to get me towed to a location that was over 4 hours away and in opposite direction as my home. When I asked for a supervisor she hung up on me.

We have had the membership plus. The car was in someone's driveway, we need a tow to move the car out of the driveway and into the side of the street until we can get the car fixed. AAA turn us down, they wouldn't come tow the car. I asked her supervisor. Why do I need AAA if they won't tow the car to where I want it? They said they will only tow it to a garage. DO NOT BUY BATTERIES FROM AAA. I had to call AAA for a battery issue in So Cal. I purchased a new one from them as it came with a warranty. That’s where the trouble started. After driving for a week, the battery completely died. I called AAA again from N Cal and asked them to check the battery. They insisted that the battery was good and the Alternator had to be replaced. So I had to now tow my vehicle to a mechanic. The mechanic tested the battery and found that it was crappy. He gave me a print out with the reading and asked me to replace it. The Alternator was good.

I called AAA again and asked them to replace the faulty battery. The person who came told me that the battery looked bad and it seemed to have a leak, so he gave me a new one, but refused to accept the warranty as AAA in So Cal hadn’t entered the battery details into the system. I showed him the receipt from AAA, but he still refused to accept it. I called AAA, but they asked me to pay again as the information was not in their system. Convenient of them to sell a battery and not enter it into their system. After replacing the battery (paid twice in 2 weeks), I called them to register my complaint and ask for a refund. Apparently, they have a paper process. They will send me a letter, that I have to fill out and resend to them. So much for a faulty battery that they sold me resulting in multiple tows. I still haven't receive the refund.

I called my husband who rescued me. About a year later, I had a dead battery. I decided to utilize the AAA we've had for years. AAA said, "We are so sorry but we don't have anyone in the area so it may be a couple of hours..." I waited an hour and a half, ended up calling my daughter for help. 3+ hours after I had called AAA the driver called to tell me he was in the area - when I no longer needed it. This summer I was stranded on a mountain pass with 3 teenagers. I called AAA and was told, "We are so sorry but we don't have anyone in the area so it may be a couple of hours..." starting to sound familiar? Needless to say my husband drove the 4 hours and rescued me, so why bother paying for AAA - "three strikes and you are out".

I put my 2002 GMC Envoy in the AAA shop as they had already replaced the ignition components costing me about $500 several months ago. Well my ignition started locking up with key in it and wouldn't release the key at times. And other times the car would not start or even click when key depressed and after several attempts it would suddenly start. Also my check engine light had come on so I put it in the shop...

Well they couldn't recreate the key locking into the ignition and not releasing so no fix there. But they did trace the starting problem to the starter and they found the check engine light was a cam sensor. They also said it had a broken motor mount... Now here is the breakdown: Diagnostic for the check engine light $110 - 10% member discount, Starting problem diagnostic $110 - 10% member discount, Install Cam sensor parts $102.98, Labor $110 - 10% member discount. Now when they called about the Motor mount I told them to do it but on final bill it was put in as a recommendation. Now the Starter replacement they wanted $380.74 but instead I bought a starter for $184 +tax and it took 15 minutes to install...

Overview of my bill for 2 diagnostics and install of a cam sensor that also is a 15 minute job and a $20 oil change $464.1... And I still need a motor mount... HOW CAN THEY JUSTIFY CHARGING DEALER LABOR FEES EVEN WITH MEMBER DISCOUNT AND TAKE A 15 MINUTE JOB AND CHARGE A FULL HOUR?

Called for a tow to the shop that has worked on the car in the past and only three miles away. Told that tow would be there in under one hour, no show. Called again. Story now that it would take another 30 minutes for tow to arrive, no show. Called again and now the story is that it will take yet another 30 minutes. Then 30 minutes later, instead of a tow, I get a computer generated call that the truck has been "dispatched". Then thirty minutes later, another call that "emergency assistance" is on its way and would be there in 15 minutes. Ten minutes later, another computer call that it would now be 30 minutes. Called AAA and complained.

They called back and assured me that the truck was only "a half mile away" and that it would be there "in 15 minutes." WTF? Even at 20 mph a truck would be there in 3 minutes from that distance. Truck finally arrived and driver insisted that I just needed a jump not a tow. Tried everything I had tried. (Oh did I mention it is pouring rain while this is going on?) Finally hooked the car up and towed it to the repair shop. Repair shop told us they could have sent their truck and only added a few bucks to the bill. So to get a free tow, I paid dues for 14 years and got soaked to the bone waiting for over three hours in the rain. AAA's live CSRs apparently are trained to make stuff up. But every 30 minutes I called, they kept pushing it further by 30 minutes. I had to call multiple times. Finally, the tow truck arrived 2hrs later. After initial assessment it was clear that my car needed to be towed. The driver tried to rush me and wanted to go away. But after convincing him, he agreed to tow the car. I wanted to take the car to Mountainview from SF to which the driver refused. He threatened to leave the car in the middle of street. Since, I was already fed up, I decided to park the car 3 miles away near my friend's place. I was assured that they will tow my car in the morning.

Cut to next morning. I called AAA again for a tow truck. I was given an initial window of 10 minutes. So, I went out and waited near to the car. When it was well past 30 minutes, I called again and at this point I was asked to wait another 30 minutes. This process continued for another 2 and half hours. Every time I had to call them and fight with them. Eventually, I spoke to one of supposed "supervisors" and he assured me that they will credit me for one towing. It's been one and half months since then and I haven't heard from AAA. So, I called up today and as usual they repeated the same boat-load of non-sense. Apparently, as per their records, they fulfilled all my towing requests. I always wanted to tow my car from SF to Mountainview, but I was trying to be accommodating and let me tow my car the next day. In return, they decided to screw me over by charging twice. For about the past year my car periodically would not start because the battery suddenly "died". At first I thought it was an electrical problem. Every time the AAA came out and the battery was checked it passed AAA's battery test. Last February I had my car in for a routine service and the battery conveniently died while there. Luxury Motor Works in Monrovia CA (a very reliable service center that I've used for many years) called to tell me the electrical system was good but the battery needed replacement. I then called AAA to come out and replace the battery. But when AAA arrived they once again deemed that the battery was okay and refused to replace it. It was under full warranty at that time. I told AAA that they should replace the battery because there obviously was something wrong with it and that I shouldn't have to accept an unreliable battery.

They refused to replaced the battery because "it was taking a charge". So I've been driving with this questionable battery which again failed this last month. This time it was pronounced dead by Wards Auto Service in Monrovia. They are an authorized AAA repair shop. But even with all the evidence from a credentialed repair shop, AAA refused to replace the battery because they once again said it was okay, i.e. "it was taking a charge". And now the battery is out of full warranty. That was the last straw. Jim Ward, owner of Wards Auto Service, indicated that the battery manufacturer that AAA uses has 4 grades of batteries. AAA purchase and installs the lowest grade. That's all I needed to hear. Between the cheap batteries and lousy battery service I'm never again going to use AAA batteries in any of my cars.

In March, 2014, my car broke down out in the middle of nowhere, near Death Valley, Calif. I am a 63 year old woman and I was alone. There was no cell phone service, as there are no cell phone towers nearby. I sat there for over 2 hours, alone, wondering what I was to do. I was afraid to stop stranger and afraid not to. I was across the street from the turn off to a lonely rest stop, about a 1/4 mile of the road. I saw one car pull in and could see a man get out of the car but I didn't walk down there because it was too deserted and I was afraid.

About a half an hour later another car pulled in and I saw a man and a woman get out. I figured that with three people and two different vehicles I was probably safe. I walked down there and asked to use a cell phone. They both said that there was no service there. The man and woman offered to give me a ride but I was not about to get in their car but they also said that they would take my info and call someone for me. I gave them my AAA member # and my 23 year old grandsons phone #. They kindly drove the 60 miles into Baker, Ca and called my grandson in Pahrrump, NV for me.

He called AAA and they would not send help because he did not have every number that was on my card. He had the entire member number but not the club code or the other misc numbers. I waited out there alone for 6 hours, not knowing if anyone was going to help me. I did not know if the next person coming by was going to help, ignore me or hurt me. If it had been August I could have died as the temps reach over 120 degrees. My grandson finally was able to come and get me. We had to leave my car there for 3 days before we got it towed to Pahrrump, 60 miles away. I was lucky that it was not vandalized. Then I had to leave it in Pahrrump for a month and a half before I could get it towed to my home in Lancaster, CA.

Mind you there was NO HELP from AAA. I have called them several times since and they just keep telling me that they will have someone look into it, but no one calls me back or gives me an explanation. They do not seem to care that they had an active member at risk and stranded without help or protection. It has been now over 6 months and I still as of this time had no one offer me any valid explanation or sincere apology. It doesn't seem to matter to them. They have no conscience or humanity.

I asked one supervisor how he would feel if it was his mother or wife and all he could say was that he would be frustrated. Are you serious? What good is Emergency Road service if when you are in a real emergency they will not help? I have had them come out when I have locked my purse in the car and did not have any of my number handy. They told me they would get the numbers when they open my car. The worst customer service I have ever experienced! I could have been raped, murdered or died of heat stroke. They do not seem to care.

I tell him CLEARLY, the car still won't start. He still can't replace it. The name of the road service is Classic Auto Service. The warranty AAA is obviously flawed. If their battery won't start the car, that should be their first requirement for warranty. 10.4 volts did not turn on my 8 cylinder vehicle. I asked for a battery check and the driver said it wasn't necessary. If he had done that test he would know that the problem was *not* the battery. AAA driver said he tows to his friend's (non-AAA) repair shop in Raleigh.

Five days later (on 9-13-2014), I find out that the problem was a broken (or five days earlier *breaking*) timing belt. Now instead of a repair for a breaking timing belt, there is nearly $4000 worth of damage and I am without a car for 2 weeks. So, I mention to AAA the fact that I need to trust AAA when I am driving my elderly mom in the car. And they are again indifferent to the safety of my family and myself and any other person on the Interstates and town roads on a rainy night.

Not only do I have tremendous damage to the car and no car for 2 weeks, but I now have less confidence in towing companies in NC. If AAA allows unsafe cars to be on the road when the driver inquires about a towing, then cars are driving on NC roads in an unsafe manner and that is an absolute life and safety issue.

I then asked the AAA rep to further explain the process and she said that the service technicians are supposed to suggest batteries that AAA sells. This seems like a conflict of interest.

I have a BMW that sat in the garage for 3 weeks due to my having surgery. It would not start so I called AAA roadside service. The man who came said I needed a new battery, even though the one in the car was only 1 1/2 years old. He said "if your car won't start after only 3 weeks in the garage, that means you need a new battery."

He then had a very young, obviously inexperienced man install a new battery.. It was installed wrong, not even secured, and due to some faulty installation or wiring, my lights and air conditioner stopped working the next day. The car also lost a lot of power. I took it to the BMW service and was told due to the faulty installation, the wiring in my car was close to being completely ruined. They felt the connections had been switched.

Subsequently, my car's electrical system had extensive work done to make it safe to drive. I called the AAA roadside service man and he was very rude, told me there was no way the car would start if the battery had been installed wrong, and told me I had a bad attitude and he was not going to talk to me anymore about it (My adult niece was present when all this was going on).

I asked for the regional supervisor's phone number. He gave it to me, and the supervisor in Kansas City, was also very rude, told me he would do nothing. I told him I had heard the company had given their roadside workers a quota to sell new batteries. He told me that was a lie, and that the batteries were quality ones, and AAA members were lucky to get them at a good price. I told him I was not satisfied with his treatment of me and asked for his supervisor's name and contact number. He told me "that won't do you any good, he will just send your complaint back to me."

I did not pursue the matter, but I continued to have trouble starting my car. The battery continued to die often and I finally was told by AAA they would no longer pay to have my car started by their service because I had to use their service "too many times". I took my car to BMW and was told that the battery was not strong enough to power all the needs of a BMW, so I had to purchase another battery. They said AAA "should have known this car takes another kind of battery, looks like you were 'taken'".

A letter was received later from AAA stating many of their batteries were defective and I could have mind checked as a local NAPA store. If it was found to be defective, they would let me return it and they would refund the money I had spent to purchase it.. I had saved the battery after replacing it at the BMW center, so I took that battery to NAPA, they tested it and found it had very low power and that my car needed to be jumpstarted every other day when it was in my car.. They certified this and informed AAA and I received a refund.

I wonder how many other people were a victim of the battery scam..and maybe if I had not just had surgery, being an elderly, single woman, maybe I would have been so easily fooled. I had told the service man I needed my car almost daily for medical appointments, so guess he saw an easy mark. The rude and threatening behaviors I received from both the local service man and the regional manager was very shocking and upsetting, calling me a liar and saying it would do me no good to complain further. I still grit my teeth when I see the car with "Pop-a-Lock" and AAA roadside service, on the doors, around town. I had been a member of AAA for over 10 years and did not receive a refund after AAA cancelled my membership for "too many service calls", due to THEIR defective battery.

We have AAA roadside service (service being the word) that is renewed annually for over 25 years. Our car had a flat tire and we called AAA. The customer service dept informed us the tow truck was 15 minutes away. No one came after 1/2 hour. We continued to wait patiently. A police officer stopped as well as cars and residents. We decided to call back. They assured us they were only 1/4 mile away and will be there shortly. Another 1/2 hour later no one called us to inform us of the update. We called back. We are elderly people in our eighties waiting in a hot car. No one ever called us back to reassure us of the update.

Almost another 1/2 hour and the tow truck finally arrived. Lakeside towing who has a contract with AAA told AAA that it would be over an hour. Once again no one told us of the time difference. They had our information and our cell phone #. The priority should be first come first serve. Their customer service dept has computers and GPS so they know exactly the time it should take for arrival. AAA is a large corporation with many subsidies in over 50 states. AAA should learn to tell time because waiting is an important element in roadside assistance. 25 years of renewals. We used them twice and now we may never use them again.

I had flown in to an airport in CT intending to take my car to NH that day. The battery was dead. I had no time to contact AAA that day so I had to take my rental car to NH. When I returned two days later I called AAA and they tested the battery, said it tested fine and gave it a boost. Next morning car did not start. Again, no time to wait for AAA and had to make other arrangements to get to airport on time. Called AAA from airport and was given a hassle because I could not be there with the car but finally agreed to come out as long as my neighbor was there. Again insisted battery was ok and gave it a boost.

Next morning neighbor tried to start car. Again dead battery. Called AAA again, battery was only 8 months old. CT AAA told me I would have to call NH AAA to get authorization for replacement since my membership was from NH. Called NH AAA and was told that CT had to authorize it. Called corporate AAA who told me effectively that they had no control over either club. Most of the people I spoke with were OBNOXIOUS! Ultimately, I called a local service station to come out and replace the battery... No satisfaction from AAA, and no service. I had been a member for over 30 years. NO MORE! I will not renew with them and my neighbor who was aware of what I went through - also a member for over 30 years - will not renew with them again. I am telling everyone to check this website to see what they are really about. Pathetic!

I had a battery replaced, but the old one was still under warranty. They charged me since the previous roadside assistance did not write down the serial number of the warranty. I've been trying to get reimbursement, but am getting a runaround.

My wife and I have been members for 2 years. The first year we never used AAA. The second year I tried to use them for a flat tire. I wanted it plugged. They wanted to put the donut on. I had a 65 mile drive ahead of me, and the tire was good for 40. Then today I had to have my wife's car towed 25 minutes away to our Ford dealer. They told my wife we needed to pay $40.00 out of pocket because the tow was more than 3 miles. Let me ask you, would anyone pay $75.00 to AAA, because they want to have coverage to tow their car for 3 miles? I had no idea that I bought a 3-mile package. The print must have been microscopic. They are a very crooked operation and they use misleading sales tactics. I cancelled my membership today and I hope this will cost them another $100 or so cancellations. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY and their arrogant and incompetent employees.

I called AAA at 3:00 pm and was told that the wait was 90 which I thought was extreme but what could I say. I waited til 4:35 pm, no one had shown up or called so I called them back. I was told give them another 30 minutes, mind you, I'm in a area where there is no place for me to go not to mention I had to use the restroom. I called after the 30 minutes was up and explain to them I had nowhere to go and had to use the restroom. They informed me to call 911 and ask the police to take me to a bathroom with all the crime going on in the city. I'm sure the police would have thought I was crazy, on top of that I was given another 30. Now this means I will be there until 6:00 pm which is unacceptable for me. I will not be renewing with AAA.

We are as a family AAAA roadside member. They sent us renewal requests stating that all our memberships had expire, and that we would be without coverage unless we submitted new payments, including a bogus coupon code - immediately. I checked my card and my and my family members accts were not set to expire for 9-10 months. They were trying to get us to renew early keep our funds totaling over $300. And then on top of it, said our new renewal date would be reflective of the date payment was received. Be careful of this totally unethical billing scam on behalf of AAA.... Am going to see another service via my CC when the subscription end in 10 months... How many unsuspecting are automatically sending in the payment on this fraud! Driver has a lazy bad attitude. Told me he didn't have to give me gas because I ran out by the station. Well for one thing I don't care where I run out. I pay for you to bring me gas, so I told him to tow me home. Then he says I don't have to do anything because your tag is bad! Not even a month bad I didn't put it on yet. So he put maybe a 1/4 of gallon and ran out a block away from home. I'm not going to be with AAA next year. Who the hell did that ** forget who pays his pay check. Really gone down. Been a plus member for 5 years.

September of 2012, I purchased a battery from the Automobile Club. On August 02, 2014, my battery died and it is still under warranty. They refuse to honor my warranty. They lied to my face twice about my battery not being the problem. My mechanic who has been in business for 30 years said the battery was no good. This is an outrage and a scam!!!! I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I am going the write the president, vice president and the CEO. I had to buy a battery from Sears just to get to work because they failed to supply me with a new one. I lost work time and money.

Renewed based on supposed Motorcycle coverage. When I spoke with the sales representative, I told her I was only interested in the "Motorcycle Coverage" because I needed them to replace my motorcycle battery. She said, yes, "we do that", but she went on to say I would have to renew my membership I had prior for two vehicles. She only offered the highest rate, versus any alternatives. I had to recommend alternate options I knew they had, to minimize service I really didn't need. I called after 72 hours due to being unable to locate battery options for my motorcycle type.

It seems the service rep didn't know anything about whether they had batteries or about the service. She then stated, "I know we have them but I don't know the different brands." She recommended I rephone in the morning and speak with service department. I was told by the representative he didn't know and to "hold". I waited 25 minutes on hold then had to return to work responsibilities. I phoned later after work and asked to speak w/ a supervisor. Again, placed on hold for 30 minutes. A man answered abruptly, mentioned his name, though no title mentioned. He abruptly and rudely asked "what's the issue." I questioned if he was a supervisor, then he restated the same. I was then disconnected.

I phoned when I returned home and spoke with a very sweet young lady, with whom I recapped the scenario and my dissatisfaction. She quite frankly stated, "No, we do not replace motorcycle batteries". She apologized for the inconvenience and attempted, several times, to transfer my call to a "supervisor," per my request. No resolve took place after 30 additional minutes on the phone and 5 attempts later. I requested cancellation of my membership. She politely stated I would need to call another number to do so. I did call, was on hold another 20+ minutes, without resolve.

I have a 2-yr-old AAA battery that died 3 times this week despite having it jumped by AAA and driving it 45 min after each jump as instructed by the driver. AAA refused to replace it. Two of the drivers that came out did not even come with the battery tester despite knowing that it was a battery related call. I had to follow them back to their respective shops to get the test, only to have the test show "recharge and retest" indicating a 'good' battery, and yet the car still wouldn't restart after 45 min of driving. So frustrating. Going to my own mechanic tomorrow.
