I have been purchasing Purina Pro Plan for Large Breeds for many years and Purina in general for decades. Over the past year or so, the kibble size has been getting smaller. It is about to point where it is more appropriate for smaller rather than large dogs. Also, the amount of ground meal in the bag has recently increased a great deal. I have to sift the contents of the current bag before I feed it to my dog. I am contemplating switching to another dry dog food.

For over a year now we continue to have black bugs hatching inside kibbles of Purina Pro Plan and finally had enough and switching dog foods. We have a few dogs and we watch them eat these bugs in addition to seeing them crawling all over house. Purina knows about problem but does nothing. I recommend never using Purina pro plan and Purina does nothing about it. Even went to several different stores to purchase food and still bugs hatch in every bag. Very disappointed.

I just purchased a bag of Purina Pro Plan puppy food. I opened the sealed bag and went to scoop the food into my dogs' bowls. One of the pieces looked weird like there was a piece of plastic in it. I went to examine the piece of dog food. It was not plastic but it was a MAGGOT!! I have not seen any other pieces with maggots but it came straight out of a sealed bag. I will be finding a different Brand of food to feed my dogs.

Stop. We purchased Purina One Chicken in the 12 pack. It was purchased May 1, 2026 at Walmart on Grand Street, Amarillo, Texas. Our dog has had diarrhea. A second pet also ate this food and also developed bloody diarrhea. The only source of food for them was this brand of dog food. We want other pet owners to know, we’ve had a problem and for them to be aware and alert to changes in their pet's bowel movements.

I recently switched my puppy to Purina lamb and rice recipe and the food has caused digestive issues and vomiting. My dachshunds didn't have any issues until I tried Purina again. Several families contacted me complaining about the throwing up and bloated stomachs. They also had issues with not producing bowel movements. My advice is to not give your dogs or puppies Purina as this has been an ongoing issue for years. We gave them one more try and it's yet failed again.

I paid for a 40 pack of pate cans. When I opened them, they were not pate. I sent a video of me clearly opening the cans that were labeled "Chicken Pate", the cans were clearly sealed, I showed them everything. I could not use the product because I did not know what was inside - it was some sort of gravy filet but an undetermined type of meat. I reached out to customer service, they asked ridiculous questions, and CLOSED THE CASE WITHOUT EVEN SENDING ME A COUPON! They did not care that I spent money on their products that I could not use, they did not care that the packaging was wrong, they did not care that my cat could have become VERY sick from a different type of protein source, they did not care at all about my concerns. Please avoid them. They are monsters pretending to care about their customers and pets, but they clearly do NOT! I lost money and could not use their product, I had video footage and was ignored.

The Pro Plan Hydra Care product for cats decreased in pouch size by 12% which equates to about 1.5 less pouches per box and is kept at the same price. Times are incredibly difficult for all Americans and this is what a huge company does to its customers that it “cares deeply” (accordingly to their website) about? Keep in mind this company grosses multiples of billions annually. I have 3 senior cats with renal failure using this product daily. Ages 18.5, 19, and 17.5 years of age. This is one of many daily supplements they take for maintenance, so it’s fair to say I am deeply angered. Disappointed in their company for doing this to us. And not only have they reduced the size, but the recipe is different, it looks different and my cats don’t like it as much. I would LOVE to find an alternative for this product and will do my due diligence to do so.

If I could give this zero stars I would! My dog, a young g Doberman of a year and 11 months has been on Purina ever since she was a puppy. I’ve bought it faithfully due to a vet telling me if I want to put her on any purina food, then to go with Pro Plan since it’s the best. About a month ago my I bought both of my dogs another bag of the chicken formula. My German shepherd showed signs first. Vomiting her food in the second day of feeding her the food. I figured, since I had no issues with the food that it wasn’t the food, so I monitored her over the next few days and she was still throwing up.

My Doberman had no affects at this time so that also made me think it wasn’t the food and that maybe my GSD got into something in the yard. Around the third day my Doberman started vomiting (viewer discretion picture below). Even worse than the GSD. So I thought maybe it’s the food. I took them both off of the food because along with the vomiting they both were losing A LOT of weight. And I mean…A LOT. I followed family and vet's advice and put them on chicken and rice supplements for the time being. This helped, my dogs weren’t vomiting anymore but both were not gaining any weight.

Fast forward to last Thursday. I finally said enough of the expensive chicken lol and bought them new dry food. A bag of purina one. The first day both were fine. The second day both were fine as well. Until late in the night. I smelled poop in the house and went to go check it out. My Doberman was laid out in her cage in a position she never sleeps in. I tried to talk to her but got no response. She was weak. She wasn’t moving much. And she couldn’t walk. I felt her stomach and it felt like it was either full of air or fluid. I tried to see if she had to throw up. But she didn’t. I let her out to poop. And my baby doesn’t stay in the yard a lot. She hates it.

I found her outside 2 minutes later laid out under the porch. I knew something was wrong. I rushed her to the vet immediately and she was throwing up the entire ride. We made it to the vet and my girl was even smaller than she was earlier in the day. About 15 minutes at the vet. I was informed her heart had stopped. She had some sort of organ failure. And she sadly passed away. To anyone out there. DO NOT BUY THIS FOOD! I don’t care if you’ve been using it forever. Get your dogs off this food. Do NOT end up like me. Please.

I’m a healthcare expert, and I observed a concerning reaction in my cat after consuming Purina Cat Soup. There appeared to be a causal link between the ingestion of this food and symptoms including vomiting, tongue sores, difficulty breathing, and trouble swallowing. The resulting medical treatment was both costly and distressing for my cat.

I submitted a claim to Sedgwick on behalf of Purina, detailing the incident and associated veterinary expenses. Unfortunately, the claim was denied, and no resolution or accountability was offered. If you care about the safety of your cat or dog’s meals, I strongly urge you to take extra precautions—always check labels, verify expiration dates, inspect the food for odd smells or textures, and consider trying a different brand altogether. I will not be repurchasing any Purina products.

We are never getting purina again. We were really disgusted so threw away the container, the food and the purina bag all away instantly and forgot to take a picture but we did catch one of them in a container and I am attaching a picture of it. This is not a “small issue” or a “rare accident.” This is a serious health hazard and a massive failure in quality control. Bugs don’t just appear baked into kibble unless there’s something seriously wrong at the production facility. It’s disgusting, it’s unsafe, and it shows zero care for pet safety. I trusted this brand. I trusted Purina. That trust is gone. Never again. I’m reporting this to the FDA and everywhere else that matters. And I’ll be warning as many people as I can. I have complained to Purina in the past, and after my most recent purchase was also shorted, I contacted them again and got no response. This is certainly a deliberate, dishonest practice; if it was merely sloppiness, as many bags would be overweight as underweight. If you buy a Purina product, verify the weight (and beware net vs gross weight) before opening, and if shorted, complain to Purina, the retailer, the appropriate government agency, and right a review on this platform and anywhere else you can inform about this.

My dog snuck in and stole some of the food from the cat’s bowl and he vomited too. There must be something wrong with this food! I plan to have it tested from some friends who work in a lab as this is just not normal.
