KitchenAid Microwave & Range Hood |

Todd of Garland, TX October 30, 2009 Another unhappy consumer who got ripped off by purchasing a KitchenAid Over the Counter Microwave that keeps coming on by itself. After months of unpluging it and pluging it back in to limp it along it finally died. I like all the others on here bought a KitchenAid because I believed it was a top of the line appliance. Boy was I wrong and I will never purchase another Kitchen Aid product as long as I shall live. Everyone is correct that this microwave is very dangerous and should have been recalled. This brands reputation will pay dearly for putting out this kind of product and not standing behind it and replacing it with a microwave that works. Major rip-off and I hope someone files a class action law-suit against this company so we can all get refunded for this disaster. Do not buy a KitchenAid product unless you want to get screwed! Microwave started up on its own and started a fire inside the oven. It burned my hand when I put out the fire and ruined the microwave. eileen of eugene, OR October 16, 2009 I purchased a microwave hood combination model KHMS155L less than two years ago. The unit was expensive (around 500) but I thought I was getting the best product. Two months ago it stopped working. I called Appliance Service in Eugene, Oregon, the store I purchased the microwave from. They said they couldn't do anything about it and told me to call Kitchenaid. Kitchenaid said I would need to have a repair man diagnose it. Appliance Tech of Eugene, Or is a Kitchenaid repair service and sent someone out to my house. It was decided a control unit needed to be replaced. Kitchenaid sent the part free and I paid the 151 repair bill. We tested the microwave and it did heat water. The next morning I put a microwave safe container (I used this container ever since I bought the microwave) in the unit - it did not heat. I tried again setting it at three minutes. After two minutes a flame was in the microwave and smoke was pouring out. The lid on the container (plastic) was melted, the inside of the unit charred. I called Kitchenaid, they instructed me to call the service repair to diagnose again. He came out and took a picture saying he didn't know what was wrong and it was a strange situation. I then received a call from the owner of the repair service saying Kitchenaid would not be responsible and if I want the microwave repaired I would have to pay for it. He also suggested that there was no proof that I didn't use a microwave safe cup but that since the cup itself wasn't melted it wasn't the microwaves fault????? I threw the lid outside in the garbage since it was on fire and was causing a horrible smell in my house. The repair person said I threw my evidence away and he was real sorry, but I didn't have a case. He then offered to give me 30 of the 151 repair bill back. When I reported the smoke and fire to Kitchenaid, they immediately asked (1) was anyone hurt? (2) was there property damage done? Since the answer to those questions were no, they were not interested in talking to me and would not be held responsible for any reimbursement. I am out a microwave and 151. More concerning, if I wasn't standing in the kitchen, there could have been a fire. Brenda of Coxs Creek, KY September 14, 2009 The "repair man" showed up on Sept 9 as promised. He spent all his time on the phone (my phone at that as he didn't have one) getting instructions from someone else on what to do. He had no parts with him and "they" wouldn't allow him to take the front panel off with a technician. He did absolutely nothing except tie up my phone and leave nasty fingerprints all over my stainless steel. Set up appointment for today, Sept 13. A different repair guy came today and he did seem to have a little more on the ball but didn't have the parts needed and made another appointment for Sept 21. Will update again then. On May 30 we purchased nearly 9000 worth of KitchenAid appliances for a kitchen remodel (frig, dishwasher, cooktop and oven/micro combo). The appliances were installed June 30. On August 22 the microwave quit microing. Looks like it's working except nothing gets hot. On Monday August 24 I called KitchenAid. I was told A & E Factory Service would be here between 8 and 5 on August 31 (that's 1 week). I took the day off and they called at 1 in the afternoon saying they couldn't make it until Wednesday, Sept 2 (9 days) again between 8 and 5. I called KitchenAid to complain and was told they didn't have any other service people for this area and Wednesday was the first day they could be here. I agreed to that and when I went to write it on my calender noticed I had to take my mother to the doctor that day. I called to reschedule and was told Sept 9 (16 days)! So for my 3200 purchase all I get is "I'm sorry" and the repairs will be done on Sept 9. We've gotten less than 2 months service from this microwave. I will never purchase anything else with the KitchenAid name. Morris of Clinton, MS September 3, 2009 The Kitchenaid microwave that I bought, model KHMS155L, has become a safety hazzard. It starts all by itself in "Pan" mode. It also started by itself with F2 on the display. Luckly we were at home when it happened. I believe that if we had not turned it off it could have very possibly started a fire. The microwave was very hot and getting hotter. It is now unplugged and useless. At the very least, Kitchenaid should issue a recall on this dangerous product. Better, they should issue a recall and refund the money. I paid top dollar for what I thought was a superior product. Hopefully some of our consumer protections will come into play. Cover panel over microwave has fallen off so much, I can't get it to stay on. It is held on with plastic tabs that have disintegrated. I shudder to think of replacement part cost (if there is a replacement part) We also had to replace the control panel after 2 1/2 years -circuit board was fried. Other than the dishwasher, Kitchen aid makes junk. I would never buy it again and bad mouth them every chance I get. Woods of West Chester, PA July 6, 2009 We have the KHMS155L Microwave Hood. It starts by itself in Pan mode. We were lucky we were home. The unit got extremely hot. Not programming the clock does help. It's not a safe product. We will be replacing it. (Not with a KitchenAid) E. of Tempe, AZ June 22, 2009 The microwave vent hood fell off, damaging my stove and countertops and almost hitting me on the head. This is not the only kitchenaid architecture series appliance that had broken in our home. Our dishwasher and refrigerator have had to be serviced, both of which were very expensive. I know that Kitchenaid will not replace my vent hood, since it is out of warranty. The replacement part is very expensive. The vent hood is held in place with cheap plastic and will fall off again soon because of it. We are so disappointed with our appliances and will never buy Kitchenaid or recommend it again to any of our family and friends. Kevin of Kamloops, BC June 17, 2009 The grill vent of my hood model microwave has broken fallen off three times in 4 years. When it breaks, it falls onto my range and smashes to pieces scrathing and denting the range top. It appears that the plastic tabs holding the vent into place get brittle over time and end up breaking. When contacted by e-mail, Kitchen Aid representatives came across as very arrogant and would not stand behind their product. They checked for a product recall, and as there was none, they blew me off! Carol of Fairview Park, OH June 16, 2009 I purchased a KitchenAid Microwave Hood Combination (Model#KHMS155LSS-4)this item has been one of worst products I have ever owned. I will tell anyone, never purchase anything with the brand name of KitchenAid. Customer Service has no interest in the customer. I paid 500.00 for a piece of garbage. Two adults have used this item for three years. The grill-vent has fallen off twice. The door handle has cracked in two places. With chuncks falling off. A call to customer service is a waste of time. This company does not care. They will follow the American car companies with the lack of quality into bancrupcy. This company does not stand behind their products! They are very arrogant and offer no concern to the consumer. My total rehab of my kitchen looks great except for a microwave that falls apart. I'm sure I'll replace it with a venthood and stand alone microwave. The cost of both and workers for the project 1,000 to 1,500. I know it won't be a Kitchen Aid. Report Your Experience
