I purchased an Infiniti Q45 5 years and 3 months ago. I
paid the price asked due to the assurance that the engine was
built to last 250,000 miles and that the first tune up was 100,000
miles. I have followed all maintenance schedules using only
Infiniti authorized dealers to do all of the work.
The timing chain blew on February
9, 2000 and I was presented with an estimated cost to repair
of $3,000 to $6,000. The car only has 89,000 miles on it. The
first timing chain inspection per the published maintenance
schedule is at 120,000 miles.
This is simply Infiniti's problem
to fix but they have stuck me with this bill. This is a car
that should not have this problem at 89,000 miles. The expensive
bills just after the car is off warranty have resulted in the
resale value being at least 33% lower than comparable cars (ie.
Lexus LS400).
I cannot pay this money. I have gone
out and bought a used 1994 Chevy Blazer this weekend from the
Infiniti dealer and got them to give me a $5,000 trade in for
the 1991 Infiniti Q45 (what a low price for a car with a list
of $65,000). This is now 3 months after I paid off the car.
I am an emotional wreck. My wife
is 8.5 months pregnant with our first child. I have better things
to do than deal with car companies that will not live up to
their committments. This has blown my trust for Nissan and Infiniti
to the point where all I can do is bad-mouth them every chance
I get. It is just not right what happened. I am now $6,500 out
and drive a Chevy Blazer instead of an Infiniti Q45! I estimate
my net worth dropped about $8,000 over this event.
