If I could give them a zero I would. JEA has the worst utility service in Northeast Florida. They turned my service off for a late payment. However, we paid the bill at 2:55 pm in the afternoon. I did not know that they changed their time on when the bill had to be paid by 2:00 pm. I called and spoke with the young lady and kindly asked her to please have the service turned back on due to us having small children in the house, it's so sad they would not turn the services on until a business day. They don't care about our children. Life happens to good people and our new mayor supports them in their bull! And I have been a resident of Florida for most of my life.

This is the worse company to supply utilities for their people since they have no empathy and train the employees to care even less. They charge extremely high fees for poor service. and even if you owe them a penny they will disconnect you. If anyone Knows about Cons this is them!!!! $800 a month and zero explanations given by a JEA investigator.

I waited over an hour to be transferred 3 times by reps that claimed they were not trained to help me with my MyWay account. I finally got connected with a MyWay rep and they still couldn't help me. So I just wasted over an hour. This is ridiculous.

JEA is the worst utility bill company I have ever dealt with. They have charged me $600 for 2 weeks of service?? Lawsuit is coming and it’s going to be coming quick. I hope they lose business and all of their funds they have robbed the good people of Florida from.

JEA can do whatever they want, seems to be the overall attitude and with the Mayor's consent. I was/am a good, solid paying JEA customer for over 12 years now. In both homes I lived in Jax, I was never shut off, nor ever got late payment fees. By the time my credit score was around a 798 FICO score, JEA told us that "their credit score" for us was below the threshold! I had two slight late payments over the past year, from Feb 2023-Feb 2024. This was during short vacations. Both were caused by VyStar bad balance reporting during their transition to a new online banking system when huge delays in correct ledger balances appeared. We tried to explain but we're not allowed to make ACH bank payments any longer. JEA required a credit card on file and would use such in case payments were missed.
We were only allowed since the end of 2023 to use credit card payment options. Then in the summer of this year, 2024 a new JEA requirement popped up..we had to make a $500 cash deposit!!! Why? It was all because JEA's new policies for low income families with below "JEA Treshhold Credit Ratings"! Mind you that my official FICO score by then was 798, with an annual household income of around $240k!!..and no late fees or power shutoffs ever!! I refused to pay the $500 cash deposit, stating that I am not the bank, extending free loans to them!
After several months, by October, JEA shutoff my power to the house, while I had always consistently posted payments for the JEA water & power usage charges on time, since the two incidents. JEA has become a criminal institutions since Mayor Deegan has assumed the Mayor's position. It's an absolute outrage. After I posted the $500 deposit online, the power was immediately turned back on. This is how JEA blackmails and enforces it's unilateral policy changes, and nobody seems to put them in place. These deposits could potentially give JEA millions of dollars in windfalls through free interest profits on their escrow or savings accounts!
JEA (management) has become an authoritarian bully that has no place in our city of Jacksonville. Possibly disgruntled managers over missed commissions from a public sale years ago that went sour under the leadership of Mayor Lenny Curry (ie)..(I did speak out against that sale process at the time since JEA is one of the few sound public institutions in the "black"). This dictatorial behavior must be fought with tooth and nail though. Hopefully you all stand up and write the current Mayor and management to address the issue if you fell victim to the same.

I’m the account holder for the household and it’s in my name. Was on hold for 50+ minutes trying to figure out why my power was shut off absent any form of contact from Jea regarding it. Had auto pay set up but they didn’t pull a month's bills from my account so they shut off the power absent warning. Extremely unprofessional that my fiancee can call and immediately have a rep answer but I can’t.

So I had a leak that ran my bill up $400 and it wasn’t my fault. Landlord won’t pay it. Okay cool. Asked to get the bill adjusted. They only took off six dollars. Mind you my bill is normally 100-120. Never anything extra. They said it wasn’t flagged as irregular yet my usage never exceeds 70. From the leak I had numbers like 750 830 1450.. and my normal numbers are 10 10 20 50 highest I ever saw was 70. I cannot wait to leave. Jacksonville JEA is the worst.

I understand that Helene came and caused outages throughout certain areas, but to be the only person on your street without power is crazy! It’s not the first time I’ve told them this meter was reading “error” after an outage. I’ve been calling multiple times over the last 24 hours to see if a technician could assist with the meter because it’s reading “error” and I’ve gotten the same response from each representative who has answered. “Thank you for calling, I will put in a ticket.” Why do you have to put in a ticket when I’ve called multiple times to check the status of the only ticket that should be showing on my account? Then when I open their outage map my location does not show pending assistance nor outage acknowledged, it only shows after I get off the phone with the representative.
Is there a significant amount of damage that one person can’t step away to check a meter? With all due respect, there needs to be another power company available to individuals who do not want JEA in the city of Jacksonville. To put people at the mercy of waiting on a response, if any, from the technicians you have employed is ridiculous and it makes this company look flawed!

We’ve endured many storms in this area in the past. Many worse than this last one. Jea used to restore power promptly. This is not the case with this storm. Jea is slow, unresponsive, rude, and unprofessional. The Degan administration is turning a blue eye apparently. Under republican leadership, things seemed to be a bit more urgent. With the current situation downtown, it just seems like it’s all about profit and screwing the people. Jea is a disaster. Jax is better off selling Jea and bringing in Fla power.

Our power did not go out with the storm, but after everything is over @ 6pm the next evening our power goes out? Systemic issues prevented us from even being able to report our outage via phone or internet. It is now midnight and JEA cannot even give us an ETA?? Typical JEA - def ZERO sense of urgency and ZERO preparedness. Spoke with a live person finally just to get a blanket response. Elderly and disabled people up and down our street who need power to be able to function - so sad. Not to mention how unsafe it is to have no power in the middle of the night!!?! It NEVER improves from year to year - only gets worse.

There are two words that describe JEA. Hot garbage. They do not care about their customers. I used to be a big-time supporter of them and despite what people said I always stated they treating me with respect. With the events of the storm and their very Unprofessional and uncaring attitude of even giving a simple ETA as to when power will be restored it shows they do not care. But what do they care, they hold them monopoly here.

I really wish there was another energy company to utilize in Jacksonville, literally one of the worst energy companies I've ever put up with, and as a veteran I have traveled to a lot of different places. Horrible that they have a contract where they are the only ones allowed to power Jacksonville. A real nightmare, not to mention personal problems with certain workers coming onto my property to look at a former tenant's bicycles with obvious I'll intent.
In the past a third party company had paid 3 months in advanced to help me out as a veteran in the middle of a crisis. I ended up leaving my residence early, and had a $125 credit thanks to the donation for a veteran in need. I had only asked for one month, and they had given me a huge blessing, and an extra credit that I desperately needed. After speaking with JEA I was informed the $125 credit would be given to me at the end of the contract. At the end I only received a $25 credit. That was a terrible experience, and I truly felt I had been deceived.

Someone please find a way to get a petition going to fully remove JEA, giving us access to public business that provide electric services instead of it being city owned, city is scamming the living crap out of their community using JEA as a milking device, JEA needs to be either disband or sued for the actual damage it's causing to residents of Jacksonville with the mafia behavior it possesses, stealing money from its residents but at as well as Jacksonville's Major for knowledgably knowing that compare to anywhere else in USA,.
They are illegally charging almost x2 higher than any other state, just because it's privately owned and operated by city of Jax so they feel entitled to charge whatever they feel like it, whenever they feel like it without any proper documentation for the undisclosed fees whenever they are extra money hungry just because they know residents don't have access to any competition as it's automatically being blocked by Jacksonville, making everyone consistently only dependable on JEA which is a complete SCAM.

My water/sewer meter was broken which caused the meter to give estimates of my utility usage. My bill is $503.57. It estimated my water/sewer usage as 15,000 gallons. I don’t have a pool so that information of usage is incorrect. While on a call with JEA representative, they set an Appt for an analyst to come out. July 30, 2024, a JEA water analyst came to my home and replaced the meter. He stated,” No leaked indicated, meter was being estimated, causing customer to be in higher tier. Account needs to be adjusted.” I have talked to several JEA representatives and each one contradicted the other about my bill. I paid $314.50 of $503.57 which left a balance of 189.07.
They never credited the bill, instead re-billed me for June-July and left the bal above. I had paid for 4000 gal of water & 4000 gal of sewer for June-July cycle. So, why would I be re-billed for it? This is highway robbery! No one could tell me what amount I should pay until this issue was resolved. In turn, they charged me a late fee and changed the due date to the end of the month. My bill is usually due on the 6th-8th of each month but never at the end. If my bill was being estimated, how would they know the accurate usage? So now, I received a notice of SERVICE DISRUPTION if payment of $533.45 isn’t received by 8/26. This can’t be legal business practices! JEA added a credit of $89.31 to July-August bill which didn’t make a difference because they didn’t remove the $189.07.
I have made several attempts to contact JEA waiting on hold 30 mins one call, 25 minutes another call and no one picked up. I know they have caller ID and ignored my calls. I’m disabled and this is causing emotional distress. I feel like I’m being charged for their faulty equipment. JEA inaccurately calculated my bill and I have to pay for their mistakes. I have all my paper bills but none of them match the digital copies online which mean they are changing info to fit their narrative. I’m so frustrated with this situation because they are defrauding customers. Every review I have read about JEA on the BBB has been negative. I would be one of the first to vote JEA out if they ever put it on a ballot!

I am beyond frustrated with JEA's unfair treatment of customers, particularly those who are already struggling. After losing my job, I had a few months where I couldn't pay my bills on time due to no income. As a single mom of three, I worked hard to get back on my feet, and just when I thought I was making progress, JEA slapped me with a $550 "Risky Customer" deposit.
On top of this deposit, they've increased the usage cost, making my monthly bill over $1,000! I live in a tiny house, under 1,300 square feet, so these charges make absolutely no sense. How is anyone supposed to get back on their feet and NOT be a "risky customer" when faced with these outrageous charges? I received this bill today, with a due date of 08/30/24. How is this even legal? I’m a single mom of three kids, and I have no idea how I’m going to manage this. JEA needs to seriously reconsider how they treat their customers, especially those who are doing their best to recover from financial hardships. This is not just unfair—it’s heartless.

JEA sent me an email stating; "You have a credit of $640.00 to your JEA ACCOUNT." I was relieved to know that a credit was attached to my account. Let me remind you of something; they sent this email on the day it was due. I paid it prior to getting an email. Then the next morning I get another email saying, "Oh sorry that message was sent in error. You don't have any credit." If I had spent that money on something else. I would have been in trouble. Nowhere in the world do you give something to someone, and then say sorry. It's gone. You lost it. You can't have it back. You don't go out to eat, get served something that wasn't yours, leave with it, and then get a call saying you have to come back and pay for it. IT'S GONE!!!! This is classified as negligence. You can sue for this. Be better. This is why you should graduate HIGH SCHOOL...

I recently purchased a house with a 374 sq ft cottage on a separate lot. The house and guest cottage each have their own utilities. I called JEA to have the power and water turned on to both houses, and there way no problem with the main house. The power for the cottage had a problem where the lights were dim. And it didn't have proper voltage. I called JEA and told them that I wasn't getting the correct voltage to the meter. I could visibly see that the wires coming to the cottage had been spliced and were 2 different sizes. They made me call an electrician who told them the same thing I did and they finally came and changed their wire to my house. The water for the cottage never got turned on so I looked in the meter box and there wasn't one. I had been billed for the cut on and was being charged for water and sewer while there wasn't even a meter there.
About a week later, they came and installed the meter, then I get a water and sewer bill for $70 with no usage not including the cut on fee. When I called about it, they told me it was because I had requested a 1 inch meter and they cost more. I told them that the line to my 374 sq ft cottage was 3/4 and why would they use a 1 inch meter. They said it was because I requested it and it will be $500 to change it to a 3/4 which would lower my basic w&s bill by 50%. I never requested it and they can't show me where I did, but they won't budge off of the $500. The linemen and repair guys are great but I would give the crs's and supervisors a zero if I could. We spoke to a supervisor and asked her to show us where we had requested the 1" meter. She said she couldn't find it,"But somebody had requested it".

JEA is a very fraudulent company. They have been billing huge amounts for electricity and water even when residents are out of town. There is absolutely no usage or intensely reduces like only 5% of the normal usage yet the bill was almost exact and at times even more than when residents were in town and living in the house. A 40 days out of town was exactly the same as 40 Days in town and invincible in the house. Even the Ecobee thermostat sends an email with the low usage of electricity the hill is exactly the same as the last month. I think a group of attorneys should look into these fraudulent billings and go after JEA with a class action lawsuit.

JEA is horrible company overall. Rates are horrible. They do not assist people with making arrangments, at least not decent arrangments, then they send a disconnection notice the same day that your service is to be disconnected!!! How is that fair!!!! The worst company ever, but they don't care because it's the only option people of Jacksonville have to have electric service, which is also horrible.

JEA meter stopped working and the electricity usage was not being properly read. The technician attempted to switch to different meters. However, the problem continued. JEA asked me to call in electrician and fix the wiring in the house, they assume that was the possible cost of the meter challenges. I paid for an electrician to fix anything that needed to be fixed, and at that time JEA informed me that everything was up and running correctly. Several months later I’m being told that, I owe a balance of an estimated usage of electricity JEA estimate comes to close to $600, and the company decided to build it all at once without any warning. I called to complain, and they told me that I cannot appeal how they arrive to the calculation, nor can I dispute their estimates. Essentially, I’m stuck paying an additional almost $600 of unexpected charges this month.

I’ve lived in New York City, Princeton, London, Amsterdam, West Palm Beach and Jacksonville; JEA is the most corrupt enterprise I’ve ever dealt with. They once told me I used 55,000 gallons of water in one month - I’ve been a customer for 14 years and the most water I’ve ever used is 8,000 gallons. I filled a complaint with the State Attorney General. My monthly bill went from $400 in July to $1400 in August. I have auto pay set up, but I don’t have $1400 sitting in my checking account so their egregious charge was rejected. No phone call. No text message. No reaching out. Just shut my power off.
I paid online and instantly restored power, but not a single notification from them. I’m in the Coast Guard and currently at sea and had to restore power from offshore. Absolutely disgraceful company. My next home will be in FPL territory - I never thought I’d choose a house based off the utility service provider, but JEA is that corrupt that I can’t fathom living in their service area again.

No company should have a monopoly over everything. This is the ONLY electric company we get to deal with and if we want electricity we have to pay them whatever they want - not what the electricity is worth - ONLY what this company wants. I wish that Ben Franklin never discovered electricity or I wish he got a patent on it so nobody could use it. During the middle of the COVID pandemic, they took the liberty of using my whole deposit money without my consent and paid my electric bill. They had no business doing that because I was retired and had nothing to do with no job or no paycheck during the pandemic.
Now I am being charged really, really high rates and I'm literally living in the dark. I don't use my oven or stove. I don't use my dishwasher. I don't take showers or baths every day. I don't use my washer or dryer. If I decide to eat, I wash one dish a night. And I'm still being charged a very high bill. I have the lights out most every day and what lights I do use, there are 15w bulbs in them. I am also using night lights. I wouldn't want to work for this company because they shut electricity off when people don't pay their bills and they are responsible for killing people. I don't want that on my conscience when I die.
