Every time it rains in East Texas the power goes out. Sometimes, even on a sunny day! You have NO choice in power companies like other parts of the state. And, you have NO choice in paying higher rates for a meter you don't need or want. Last summer we had no power for 6 days straight and yet the bill was only slightly less. Absolutely Hate these people but can't afford to move.

This electric company is the absolute worst! They know they can overcharge people because they have no one else to choose from. Our electric bill is over $500 a month. I called to ask what was going on and found out we are being charged for our actual electric through a different company. Then aep charges over $250 for their fees as well. This is ridiculous and completely unethical. This company absolutely sucks... Don’t move anywhere they have their service unless you want to take it up the backside.

This is unacceptable behavior from a service you’re forced to use. AEP claims to be about the customers but is more focused about AEP.

I own a 900 sq ft home and used to pay similar amounts as my neighbors, $120/mo. For years we've been charged $400+/mo and AEP refuses to do anything. 4 pro electricians agree that something is very wrong, but cannot find the problem. It is their view that something must be wrong on AEP's end but when I call they do not seem to care at all and have, for years, refused to send someone to check our meter. After receiving a $560 bill, I finally called and called and called until I spoke to someone who finally agreed to schedule a meter test, but I do not have any confidence that they will be honest about that test. They are overcharging us and I have decided to contact the following:

    Office of Public Utility Counsel
    Public Service Commission
    State Reliability Entity
    Public Utility Commission

    Attorney General (fraud)

    Federal:
    North American Electric Reliability Corp
    Utility Regulatory Commission

    Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

I noticed many other reviews here are having the exact same issue and they need to make it stop! The amount of kwh they say I'm using is absolutely false.

AEP is run by a bunch of soulless, money grubbing thieves who get rich by cold heartedly stealing money from consumers. They are relentless and do not care about you or any medical or financial situation you may be in. On Friday, when a storm hit, a tree fell and completely destroyed my front porch, knocking out our transformer and power to the entire block. All surrounding houses had their power turned back on, however, ours was not. They said that we had to make repairs on our end to our electrical system on our house before they could hook our power back up. After doing so, we called to notify them that all necessary repairs had been made. We were then told that our power would not be restored until we paid a service fee of $160!! Do you believe that?

We immediately refused to pay that fee, stating that we should not be charged for that because the outage was not caused by us. After a brief hold, they agreed to send out a technician to reconnect us. However, the very next day, after already being without power for 3 days, they disconnected our power again over just $30!! Knowing that there is a child living here, they did it anyway!! I had to pay over $60 to get my power restored again!

AEP are a bunch of snakes and they get away with it because, for most people, AEP is the only company they have to choose from to get power. Tesla proved that every person on the planet could receive free wireless electricity, but the corporate big wigs put a stop to that real quick. Telephone poles and electrical wires are expensive to the consumer and entirely unnecessary. Remember that the next time you see a power line down. You are being robbed to have the right to a necessity provided by God, free of charge. The gates of hell shall open wide for these sick people!!

I am deeply concerned about what is going on with our power bill at our cabin in Virginia. Let me tell you about our little place...It is a 400 sf tiny home that is well insulated and has a 2 ton mini split High Efficiency Mitsubishi heat pump system with mostly dc voltage in the condenser. We winterize this cabin, so the well pump is off, hot water tank off, washer and dryer off, oven off and everything else is unplugged. The only things running is my mini fridge and a florescent light in kitchen with heat temperature for heat pump set to 65. My bill was close to 145.00 this month! Also our primary home in Mississippi is a 2500 sf 2 story home and I am running everything and my bill last month was 147.00 and we are with Southern Pine Electric. How in the world is a AEP electric bill way higher with nothing hardly running? This is disturbing and I see a lot of people are suffering due to the rate increase. People need some answers pls because so many complaints across the internet with no real explanation.

I purchased an old building, that previously 20 years prior was a small country store (very small). I wanted to put a bathroom and other items in it, and rent it out as a house. AEP refused to let me have residential rates. They also refused to turn the electric on, because they claimed it fell under commercial codes. I asked them how/what I could do, so it would not fall under commercial codes. Every time I did what they said, jumped through their hoop, they would still deny it. I contacted the state of Ohio electrical inspectors head supervisor. He stated my property would be classified as residential. AEP then said they would turn my electric on. Then about 20 min later, AEP said they would not turn it on, they would not even honor the main building electrical inspector in Ohio.

They love to throw their "POWER" around. Apparently I stepped on someones ego, and they showed me who was boss. After this, they then told their drivers to park their 10 ton bucket trucks on my property every day for a lunch break, tearing my property up. Yes, these are the jerks who run AEP. They also have no consideration for people with disabilities. It seems they have so much power in the state of Ohio, they can break any law with immunity.

There are so many reasons to give zero stars if I could but one incident in particular made me finally write this review. We had to have the electric company come by and disconnect our meter so that we could have some electrical work done. We set it up for them to show up at 8:30 am (which they did) to turn it off and call them back when we were ready for it to be turned back on. The issue was taking longer than expected, and we called and asked if we would be able to have someone come out after hours to turn it back on seeing as how I have a medical condition at the time and couldn’t breathe, and they said, "O course," gave us a certain number to give them and we continued on. After inspection and everything was done, we called and were told they were on their way. An hour later we called back because no one showed, and they said that they had to speak with the electrician.

Called the electrician and called them back, and they said that they don’t need to speak to anyone but it would be tomorrow before they would send someone out. Spoke with someone else and they said that they would have the person that was being dispatched to our house call us and give an ETA. After going on 12 hours without power, my O2 in the 80’s, and no one telling us anything that was remotely the same, we called back and was put on hold for another hour so they could find out what was going on to tell us that they weren’t coming until tomorrow whenever they could get to us and sorry that we were misinformed. We had to shell out $200.00 for a hotel room just so I could breathe. They don’t consider anything a medical emergency apparently and didn’t show up to our house until 28 hours later to reconnect. Worst customer service ever. Unfortunately, there’s no one else who you can go through in our area and they can do what they please.

I have been a Louisiana customer for all my adult life. Like most working American people my bills have been paid late so by no means I am the ideal customer but nonetheless I am a paying customer of 20+ years. In this area of Louisiana American Electric Power (AEP) is the only choice of electric providers we have. I feel that because of this it has limited the value of customer service we have from AEP. Because we do not have a choice of better services there is no standard to maintain customer satisfaction. Not having competitive services in this area leaves the customers here to deal with whatever AEP does because electricity is a necessity, we need the service and therefore being treated and charged unfairly.

I have called to discuss the matter with customer services representatives, and I am told there is nothing they can do to help me. I have asked to speak with a member of management, and I been placed on hold and never answered by a member of management. I submitted a written complaint over a month ago. AEP has not even bother to send a response to inform me that the written complaint has been placed in the recycle bin. I feel like a victim and this situation has caused me emotional distress.

Last month was an "actual reading" (I double checked the bill) and suddenly this month an 86.73 credit was given to me on this bill, above and beyond my existing credit - with zero explanation as to why they felt the need to give me back 86.00. I have lived in this house for 13 years, so it's not a deposit refund or anything. I live in Southwestern Virginia - I am widowed and cannot afford for someone to have 86.00 of my money, that's grocery money. Does anyone know what this might be for? However, coming off of 2020, my husband was out of work for 14 months, and not once were we disconnected, but a couple Bills were late because with all the fees they charge (Cook Nuclear, Solar rider, energy efficient program cost, Phase in adjustment, energy efficient cost rider, etc., etc., depending on the month it's an additional $15-$70 that is not electric use) & my husband not working we struggled.

But now... 2021 & not only back to paying in full and on time & they charge $324 deposit on a current account because we had late payments. Now they already charge extra when it's late, and again, not once were we so late that we got disconnected, so no interruption in service. But now they want another $324? My husband is a T1 diabetic so we already get screwed by Big Pharma, now AEP wants to rape the consumers too. I'm over the Big Companies screwing the little guy. Their maintenance crew is not on a schedule and is not maintaining the decorative, street, nor leased lights. It's ridiculous. This is a residential community. --- So, when citizens attempt due diligence, repeatedly...this is what they are met with. ****It is not the job of citizens to report lights out. It is not my job to get the GPS coordinates of each light--and I WAS VERY SPECIFIC IN REPORTING EACH LIGHT AND THEIR LOCATION, more than once. This is documented in my email correspondence with customer service. A couple of months later, I find them sending me a check with part of that money back. AEP sent a gentleman out to my mother’s address to cut some trees down that they said were a hazard to the line. They spoke to her about removal of trees and she told them to do what they needed to. They gave her some gift certificates to buy new trees which was reasonable. After they cut the trees down instead of going back to the woman that the house/property belongs to they went to whoever was close to them which was a gentleman outside that was staying in a camper. They asked him what to do with the trees that they cut down and he told them to do whatever and leave them there. It was not his decision about what happens on someone else’s property but now I’m stuck cleaning up behind them because customer service lady Sherain told me that anyone can tell them what to do on someone else’s property. Such a shame that they done this to a elderly woman but it will never happen again.

Any customer of theirs should stand there and watch their every move to make sure they do what they're supposed to cause from what their company said anyone can tell them what to do on other's property. My complaint is that they did not abide by what the homeowner.... The one who pays them every month, the service they deserve. Such a shame. Looking into seeing if there is another electric company that services my elderly mother’s area. She don’t deserve to have piles of trees cut down here and they're all over her property.

This is false. Their own worker of 35 years stated it was a smart meter and communicates with other meters and poles nobody needs to come read it! The company that makes meter aclara technologies also confirmed it's a smart meter. Just has no blue stripe to deceive public! Also rf frequency meters pick up microwave, sound, anf freq coming from meter and electricians have also verified it's a scam! Aep denies this and lies in emails stating it emits nothing! They also state not to share or show they're lying emails to anyone and expose them!

They do not install meters with basic electrician safety. They jerk it out and slam smart meter in without cleaning or lubing or inspecting connections, my electrics been out daily many times and ruined appliances from surges due to this and they refuse to do anything. Now I must sue them in court! Ridiculous. They belong in prison all of them! The department of energy a subsidiary of defense should regulate them better! I called the Customer Service Center & I was then advised that because I had been late 3 months in a row they charged me a deposit of $174.00, split in 3 month installments. They said I was advised on July '19 bill. After looking it up online, because I went paperless: it was literally on page 7 of 8. AND the deposit amount is NOT listed. AGAIN: NEVER HAD POWER SHUT OFF. AEP did install "Smart Readers" by their choice... This is a scam to recoup those costs. SCAM ARTISTS.

I spoke with three representatives for AEP via phone, one claiming to be a supervisor, about an incorrect bill I received. AEP took an actual reading of my meter for this bill and is attempting to charge more for previous months when an actual reading was not taken. But they can’t attribute a specific amount to any given month unless an actual reading is taken. So if their estimate is off they have to adjust and make up for it on the month when an actual reading has taken place. But that is not what my bill reflects. The meter only shows a total used so there isn’t a way to look back at previous usages from the meter. My bill does not reflect this. They are attempting to add random charges to previous months.

When I explained this all three reps were not mentally competent and could not understand basic logic or basic math. The supposed supervisor was extremely rude and stupid. I informed them verbally and in writing that they billed incorrectly and if it isn’t corrected, and they happen to send a disconnect notice, I will have to take action against AEP.

AEP Ohio - We switched banks from Chase to US Bank and in the midst of the chaos (we did our best to ensure that EVERY vendor--all 182 of them--had the new payment information, but) apparently you fell through the cracks. I apologize for the inconvenience. I know it's frustrating not to get the money you're owed. While upon paying my bill (3 days late), I discovered that I am banned from using ANY bank account for A YEAR!!! A YEAR!!! I also discovered that we cannot even use a debit card (real money) and would be forced to use A CREDIT CARD (debt and stupidity) to pay the bill. This is quite frankly unacceptable. It's a stupid policy. Whoever came up with this policy is a stupid person. If it was brought to the attention of your board and voted upon favorably, then your board is FULL of stupid people.

Apparently it's just stupid upon stupid over there and that's no way to run an organization--you should do better. I just thought you should know that. I propose a new policy, in lieu of your retarded one: assess a fee for inconvenience--it was our fault in this case--and move on. Don't block your subscribers from paying with a bank account for a year--that's ridiculous--no, let's call it over-extensively stupid. I would also advocate that if you are having difficulty with people paying their bills on time, people paying with credit cards doesn't help the cause. It drives them into debt and eventually into financial problems--then you don't get any money. C'mon! My 8-year-old understands this.

Anyway, I will be posting this on all of the social media outlets, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, multiple message boards, etc. I'll also be reporting this abuse (you've cost me more in labor and man hours to get this resolved with your ridiculous policies) to BBB and multiple other review sites. I will further tell my story to anyone who will listen. I'm also going to start advocating people switch to the alternative power companies that don't have (you guessed it) stupid policies. Consider this your stupid-tax! Stay far away from this company if you can help it. Send letters of complaint to current President/COO: Julie Sloat (home address coming soon). :-)

I have a small, 3 bed, 2 bath home in the country in Niles, Michigan and... Well I may as well just tell them to shut off my power completely. This is just sick. I live in an 1800 square foot home in Roanoke, Virginia. I have lived here since 1992, My electric bills have continued to rise steadily through the years and I considered them high even back then. I was shocked beyond belief when this winter presented me with an enormous bill which is 20% more than I usually pay. I am even on their "budget monthly plan" where the bill is supposed remain the same throughout the year. They claim that I have reached "my annual anniversary" date requires them to charge me for overages over the past 12 months divided by 12.

My new bill will be 20% higher for the next 12 months. As I stated earlier I have witnessed the appreciation of these rates over many years and nothing has basically changed in this household. I am no longer employed and depend on social security and a pension to survive. All household expenses have risen over the years but the rise in electricity rates is basically highway robbery. I have contacted various legislators and filed a complaint with the Virginia State Utility Commission as well as various online petitions in the hopes that something can be done about this runaway Utility Company American Electric Power.

Well for starters during non winter months my electric bill for a tiny 1 bedroom apartment in Roanoke VA. averaged $29 U.S.D. monthly. After using heat during the January billing cycle was $116 U.S.D. so immediately after seeing that bill I cut the heater off as in permanently. So I was expecting at least a break on my next bill but lo and behold my next bill was $132 U.S.D. (after completely cutting off heat and freezing for the past month). I want it kept in mind that I am in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment and the only electric I am using is as follows. Lights (very limited use), water heater (daily), charging 1 cellphone (daily), cooking (maybe 3 times a week). I am not using the following. The Furnace or AC unit, refrigerator (its unplugged and not in use), TV (I do not own one), internet (I do not have a provider), radio/stereo (I do not own one).

So using lights only for a few hours per night. Charging a cellphone. And daily use of a water heater to shower once a day does not rack up 1137 kwh. And how in the world is the delivery charge $29.27 all of a sudden.. I use to have bills that were only $29 in totality! AEP is simply dishonest and ripping off all of their customers and even worse using the extreme cold snap to exploit their customers. I didn't even use heat for the past month!! AEP doesn't care for their consumers. They don't care that I'm disabled, elderly, and having to sit in my home and freeze due to the fear of how high the next month bill they will send me, I can't run my heat. Last month my bill was 600, I was told it could be my furnace so a repairman came to ensure everything was alright.

Everything is working great, my home is weatherproofed, lights aren't burned continually, but yet my electric raises 200. If I don't want to lose my home I have to freeze in hopes my bill goes down. Looks like financially I have to shorten my meals to one a day. I did call to see if there was a known power outage in the area and the representative told me there was and that it was already being worked on to give them an hour. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind helping people out like the ones they're making move, but I want to do it on my own terms; not have the power company raise my light bill, which has been the same for over 5 years. When I first contacted AEP, the customer service rep was kind and helpful. When I explained the situation, she was going to remove the tag tampering charge but realized the meter itself had been pulled, and she was unauthorized to do so. She was to refer the situation to the investigative department. 2 weeks later I still had not heard back. I contacted AEP again and was told that they probably would not reverse the charge as I had mentioned that I was remodeling the house, and the tampering may have been done by a contractor.

As I am the contractor, I knew this was not the case and explained that to the customer service agent. She advised that I would receive a call back. I then contacted the prior owner who admitted in a text message to me that he had opened the box! So, I have proof that it was not done while I owned the home! I waited 2 more weeks, but AEP never called me. Again, I contacted AEP and met the unfriendly, unhelpful, rude staff over the phone. I was advised that they DID NOT EVER call customers back on this issue. So, which rep gave me misinformation?

I was told that the tampering was found 2 weeks after I had the power turned on, which proves I did it, as she stated that their worker turned the power on themselves. They have no work order or proof that this was done, and I know it wasn't because I was there when it was turned on remotely! They refused to hear an appeal and informed me that there is indeed no appeal process available. So, I have proof that I wasn't the offender. They have no process for appeal. But I am screwed because they hold the tethers to power my home. I apparently have absolutely no recourse. What the heck kind of system is this? Terrible.

Our bill was over $900 and the neighbors had to pay a bill that was around $600. When I called the company to ask why they didn't come out every other month for a reading like they had for the last 15 years that I have used AEP, they said they weren't required to do so.

True enough, when I contacted the PUCO, they said the law only requires electric companies to come to your property for a reading ONCE a year. They see it as the customer's responsibility to call and request a reading if they want one. I don't know about you, but I'm not staring at my electric bill every month to determine whether a reading was done. I have other fish to fry.

Especially after 15 years of the same pattern of readings, I wasn't aware I would need to all of a sudden start being vigilant about it. And of course, AEP had zero sympathy about their poor service and did nothing to help with the bill aside from offering a "payment plan," which just means your bill is going to be ridiculous for the next 6 months, and God forbid they don't do an actual reading during that timeframe because then your bill will be ridiculous for an entire year.

And to add insult to injury, they added a deposit on WHILE we are trying to pay back that ridiculous bill because *gasp* we paid late. We have never been disconnected. We always pay our bill. It feels like a pile-on for which we have no recourse. We don't stress about bills at all except from this company because it's a constant assault on our finances. We moved here to Kentucky in 2015. We were required to pay 350 dollars for a deposit. Since living here every month we get threatening letters saying if we don't pay by a certain day they will cut us off. Each month we pay our bill. However looking over the last year and a half worth of bills we have had to pay 20 dollars here and 50 dollars there for "deposits". Was my first deposit that you negotiated with me prior to my move not good enough for you. Am I going to get all of these deposits back. Of course not. Because I was late one time and according to my contract if you aren't on time every time for 18 months you forfeit your deposit. You know this which is why you keep charging me a deposit. Well here's a kicker AEP. I'm moving. And I'm not paying my bill so take the last month's bill from all of those deposits you have charged me.

When I asked where I agreed they stated my terms and conditions. Well, I read through those and it does not state that they can bill me every 15 days. Two supervisors have called me a liar. They will not let me speak to someone in the executive office or corporate. One supervisors told me that I better just drop it or they will bill me even more. And what do you know, my light bill jumped up $50 after complaining. They refuse to assist me. I just want someone with some authority to care and look over my account. This is atrocious.

I didn't give my consent to this company to approve electric in my name or anyone else but I am stick with a bill because no one would check the person ID that called pretending to me which I do have some clues to who it could be. I think this company needs to work on protecting people personal information instead of charging people that live out of state with big bills like myself.

AEP was supposed to install the new service between June 16th and June 30th. As of June 30th still no power. When we called they gave us another date for the week of July 4th. Still no power on July 11. AEP contacted me and said the work order was on the truck and if it wasn't installed on Monday July 11th that it would be done on Tuesday July 12th.

Today is July 18th and we still have no power service. My first house payment is due and I can't even move into my new home. This is causing so many hardships on myself and my family. I'm at the end of my rope and don't know what to do, or who I can contact for help. I filed a complaint with the public service commission last week and have found out nothing new. I saw a post about someone saying people are only upset because they can't pay. I think someone who can't pay the outrageous prices they ask is a reasonable complaint when they are the only place to get power where I live. They have taken my money and refuse to call me back. I have a small child and have to be out of the place I'm staying if I don't receive a call this week. I'll have no way to contact them because all my money went to the ridiculous deposit. Also I'll be staying in a place with no power and out of the money I paid for the service. So to the person who posted about being unable to pay I paid my bill and they still are acting like this. They are abusing their power. They can set any amount and you have to pay it. They can turn the power on when they feel like it because we have no other option.

I am submitting a subsequent complaint on AEP as this company is an absolute disgrace to consumers. I have attempted to dig out of a massive balance with this entity for the past few months and I am unemployed, receiving unemployment benefits. Last month, around June 2016, I paid over $793 to reconnect my electric following shut off from an extremely rude employee that refused to allot time for me to run to Kroger to pay the amount as my son with asthma was in the throws of an attack. I am sick of this entity and its gauging of consumers.

Now, today July 7, 2016, an AEP service representative did knock on my door and offer opportunity to go pay $897.48 to avoid disconnection. I would like to know what human being has that type of funds? I am on unemployment and actually qualify for PIPP in which I recertified for at the beginning of this year and AEP refuses to re-establish given there is a balance that there is no way anyone could ever pay, that is experiencing financial hardship. I am no longer on PIPP and pay as a regular consumer. Who has $400/$500/$600/$700/$800/$900 per month to fork out to AEP? The least this entity could do is allow arrangements and it does not!

Further, if you complain to the PUCO, this entity appears to began to look forward to shutting you off and making your life hell. Moreover, at the time of recertification the amount to pay was $755 and that amount I worked to pay, only to be told that "Oh no, the balance has changed its $1300 plus. AEP is ridiculous and a monopoly entity deliberating taking advantage of consumers at not only at the poverty level but otherwise. In the community I reside, the electric bills for all residents is outrageous monthly anyhow. My aunt has a condo here she only visits 2 times per year and yet her bill is $200/month. How is that?

The entire community located at Appleway East Condos needs evaluated. AEP appears to be billing at rates that are not consistent with actual usage of the consumers in these residences in the first place! AEP then has the audacity and gall to refuse arrangements and demand monies in astronomical amounts; knowing the consumer cannot pay. I am unemployed, I have no health insurance or any alternate income and the stipulations that AEP requires without any consideration for the consumer is plain evil. My bill is reflective of my efforts to pay my debt despite being on unemployment and caring for an ill child yet AEP could care less. I will be copying this complaint to all media outlets for the sake of public interest and awareness.

I have read some of the complaints and acknowledgements on this site as my experience as a new resident would qualify me as someone whom is obviously completely non-bias and impartial towards Power services in a state that is clearly over 1190 miles from my hometown of Colorado. I established service with AEP on June 3, 2016. On Sunday night, I placed a check for my deposit into the mailbox of my residence for my initial deposit of $82.00 and sent it off to AEP. After only living in this state for thirteen-days, my utilities were turned off without NOTICE.

When I called, the customer service I received was so poor. I was consistently told that "You didn't pay your deposit." I informed the customer service representative that I in-fact, I did pay my bill. The unfortunate adage here is, "the check is in the mail" and disgustingly, so many people use this line of reasoning as a bargaining chip. Then I asked myself, as a "College Professor" how much credibility do I have when my word is NO LONGER valid when I pay my bills, and I pay BILLS ON-TIME?!!

Secondly, I am at the mercy of a billion-dollar company that could obviously care less whether or not I have power. When millions of people are in need of power, one-household is insignificant. I have been treated just like my account number, a useless number or resident who -- to them still owes money to a large corporation; like many others "she is not going to pay us!" Unlike the previous post, I do pay my bills, I would NOT have arrived this far in my life if I hadn't. I imagine, per say, if any of AEP staff or workers were without power in the homes, they would feel differently. I have been told on numerous occasions that a technician "could, may, or possibly" arrive at my home to restore service within 1 to 3 business days. However, I was OBVIOUSLY not extended the same courtesy for my payment. AEP only counts the weekend as business days when charging clients for fees.

AEP has no communication system with their own contractors! UNACCEPTABLE! "Unfortunately, we have no way of tracking when the technician will arrive on-site." I have called AEP and it is NOW 52 HOURS that I have had NO utilities after living in this state for only TWO-WEEKS. I have been told, "I am sorry Ma'am but this our policy." -- UNACCEPTABLE!

I love when companies hide behind the word "Policy" - there is a reason for this! And, YES, there is that insulting policy?!! What does policy mean? A rule or measure in-place; thus, put into action by an agent or person of authority. Thus, their company policy obviously speaks enough. The fact that I am writing this review (As I have adamantly protested writing any reviews ever until NOW!) I hope will reach others to share their experiences and to NOT have them discredited by others to reassign BLAME. Shame on those who do!! And yes, my second payment has cleared my checking account...

I have had several encounters with AEP as our electrical provider, none of which are pleasant or helpful. Transformer explosion destroyed equipment in several houses in our previous neighborhood. AEP accepted no responsibility of assistance in replacing or helping with the problem. FAIL! On four separate occasions payments were misplaced and applied to another account, bill or auto-call advising of a cut-off date for non-payment of which checking with our online BB&T bank payment service, each time payments were made prior to due date for the amount requested. Two times they cut off the power, and one time I wrestled with them on the phone about the payment being made and "completed' by the bank on the 10th and the due date for cutoff was on the 15th but they still do not show the payment as of the 13th.

Even advising them that 2 older adults, two younger adults and 2 under age 3 babies reside in the large home and that cutting off the power in the hot weather is a health hazard. On one occasion they simply shut off the power, when a call could have alleviated the issue. All of which incurred a reconnection fee. I wonder if they are eager to charge and collect the reconnection fee? I called this last time and spoke with a CS agent and then her supervisor to which we decided on a additional day to see if the payment comes through. Still, no reprieve of a shutoff date. No admission of any error on their part or understanding about their bank situation. All it was, was an admonition to pay earlier and allow 3 business days for a "free bank service" online pay to make it to AEP. All-in-all, the customer service and just basic power service is poor and cold, nothing like their advertisements hype their company to be. Looking for alternative electrical opportunities.

I have read review after review on this site, and I have came to the conclusion that one thing is apparent. There are a great many people who have not paid their bills or have not paid them on time who want to complain. First off, if the power company (in this case AEP) requires a deposit or a considerably large deposit, this is not done for no reason. Someone would have to be a credit risk or have had a history of late/nonpayment for this to happen. My family has had AEP (Appalachian Power) my whole life. We pay our bills on time or early every month, and we have never had a problem.

The only time that I ever experienced an issue was when the compressor went out in one of the HVAC units a couple of winters ago and ran on emergency heat for the entire winter. My power bill exploded through the roof, and I didn't notice because I was on the Average Monthly Payment plan. I could've complained, but was that AEP's fault? No, it was mine.

Secondly, realize that every time that you have to have a company call you for collections, power on/off a pole due to nonpayment, or provide any service, that takes away resources that could be used for system improvement, efficiency, and any other number of ways to make your electric service better, and less expensive.

Finally, this is a shout out to the Ohio peeps on this site. Your state CHOSE to deregulate. This was to increase competition and drive down prices, but guess what? It also allowed in companies that sell electric like used cars. Start at this rate and two years later the fine print catches up to you. I guess this is more my rant of saying that some (not all) people need to look at their contribution to the issue before ranting themselves about a company. Are there legitimate complaints? Sure there are sometimes as no one nor company is perfect, but most of these are seem to be related to personal rather than business reasons to me.

I received a light bill in the amount of $392.50 which includes this month and next month's bill plus late fees. This bill has a disconnect notice with it. There are several things wrong with this bill. My bill is due on the April 8th. My disconnect notice is April 25 which was sent out on the 14th of April. My original bill was 161.86 plus late fees which brings it to 167.21. My disclaimer has nothing to do with fees, but it has everything to do with fees and another deposit. I've paid a deposit when I first moved into my place several years ago. Two years later and now another one for 427.00. The bill says 305.00 but when I called the customer service representative said 427.00. I was not aware of them charging several deposits throughout the years of having lights on and never once turned off. There isn't any notion of this 427.00 unless they tacked it onto my bill without me noticing it.

My bill goes from 112.00 to 270 in a month's time and that's without the deposit. They base my electric on the previous year's bill which was someone else's bill. I'm a disabled mother of four children and can't afford to keep sending the CEO and their children on vacations. It's not right for the customers to pay another deposit because we are late on our bill when they charge us late fees and we have paid several deposits already.

The government needs to regulate this and put a stop to these financial institutions that get over on customers. I'm at a loss for words other than distressed. I can't pay my bills and I'm forced to bankrupt because of these overages. The customer service persons gets upset and tell you that they can't put the supervisor on the phone and they will call back but they didn't. I'm sick and this is causing my health to decline because of stressing over big corporations taking from poor handicap people. This isn't right and someone needs to address this.

I don't even think they listen after they get account number. VERY LAZY! So I went the entire summer without electric because I have a bill that is $2,000 and in order for them to turn it on there is a stupid and outrageous reconnection fee and a payment plan of $200 per month plus they made me get on a budget of $125. I said that I didn't want the payment arrangement and they told me I had to have it with the payment plan.

This is why I had no electricity all summer. Couldn't afford it with the other bills I have to pay. So November comes around and I was finally able to get it on with $175 plus another $154 deposit. My total bill per month is $325 for the next nine months. (Nine months is the longest amount of time they allow to pay off debt) That's the minimum amount they will accept in order to keep my electric on. They told me if I miss a payment they will turn it off and I will have to pay entire amount owed. Which is just over $2,000. How and why do they let these bills get so high in the first place? It's ridiculous!

So if someone wants to steal your identity and use it for electric, they can rack it up to thousands and move on and the real person is stuck paying the amount that AEP let get that high in the first place! We should ALL get together and put a STOP to this nonsense! They are ripping people off left and right with their high rates and fees and unreasonable payment arrangements! I'd turn to another electric company and tell AEP where to go and pay them about ten bucks a month to pay off debt, but there isn't one for Delaware, Ohio, I don't think. Any suggestions?

They lost the check and yet refused to drop the reconnection fee and customer service reps were extremely unprofessional and lazy. If they would only take the time to read the notes on the account correctly then any ordinary individual should be able to resolve the problem effectively. I had phoned many times and all but one call was met with aggression and insulting remarks. The one good call resolved part of the problem only to have my next bill sent out with the same charges included.

Who is the manager of these individuals? That person should be fired along with any staff member who screams into the phone as the customer is attempting to explain the situation "STOP. STOP. STOP." And screaming, "we are having an adult conversation here." All along claiming that the customer is a liar, attempting to corner the customer with inaccurate readings of attempts to resolve the matter. I finally phoned the PUCO who put me in touch with the executive offices. I do not know if this is business as usual, but in my career, if these idiots worked for me they would all be fired and on the street immediately. I am not satisfied this issue has been resolved. I was assured my check wouldn't be used if or when it came through to AEP. Lo and behold, AEP cashed my check, causing 3 $36 bounced check fees at my bank. AEP denied responsibility and said I would have to get a refund of the original $120.91 from BillMatrix but BillMatrix has to get the refund OK'd by AEP.

When asked if there was another way around the deposit since I had just moved and quite literally could not afford it, they said that was the minimum fee and there was nothing else they could do. I had a medical emergency for a member of my family and was late on the payment. I paid the bill in the morning that I was paid and they turned off the power later that day. It would be nice to know what the purpose of the deposit is.

Also, I saw on their website that they would accept proof of making payments on utility bills for one year from a different company instead of a deposit. I asked them about this specifically and they told me no. I have only spoken to one person who was not incredibly rude in all of the conversations I have had with the company. He said that was fine, and that after I paid the bill online to call back and they would do the transfer on Friday. I followed his instructions. Paid the bill online through Bill Matrix at 6:38 am on 10/16/2015. Called them right away hoping that they would be able to start electric service that day since a) that is what he told me they could do and b) I was calling first thing in the morning.

I was informed that they could not start our service at the new house without verifying my lease (this has NEVER happened before) because the old tenants let their electric get turned off for non payment of the bill!! They told me that they would start working on it right away, and that after the lease had been verified it would take 1-3 business days to turn our service on. Needless to say, we didn't move on 10/17 as planned because there would be no lights or heat at the new house. I had to call and cancel EVERYTHING including the u-haul.

I called them this evening 10/18/2015 to see if they had set a day to turn our service on, after my new landlord informed me that she had not been contacted by them... THEY HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED THE PROCESS OF VERIFYING OUR LEASE! So the earliest that our electric will be turned on is Tuesday 10/20/2015 and that is IF they do what they need to tomorrow. I am so glad we gave ourselves extra time to move or we would be staying in a hotel right now. Regardless I am losing money by paying rent on a place that I can't even live in. I also found out that they have been charging me a $20 extra a month on my bill, as an extra deposit for the last 3 months, when I paid a deposit when I started my electric service, because I pay my bill late every month. Obviously not too late, because my electric service has NEVER been turned off.

I wish that there was another electric company in our area, because if there were I would change to another provider. I have never had such a hard time transferring services. Ever. I am absolutely disgusted from being treated this way. We are literally being punished because the prior tenants didn't pay their bill?? How is this even remotely fair??

On Saturday, October 10, 2015 I called to set up new service. I've been a traveling electrician for years. Upon speaking to my grandmother who owns this property, I found out that no one had lived at this property for a year and half. She told me the property was in I'll repair. So I decided to move my travel trailer to her property as to start cleaning the place up and do much needed repairs. When I called AEP, they looked up the address and said my deposit was $197.... which I paid that Saturday the 10th.

Here it is Monday the 12th and still no service. This time when I try to speak with customer service, they say there's a past bill and they refuse to turn it on till it's paid. How can they do this to me? I've never lived at this address. I should only be liable for bills I generate... right? I need to know what to do. They already have my deposit they quoted for me to start service.

I have lived at my current location for 15 years. The power would occasionally go off maybe once a year if that. Over the years this has happened more frequently up to the point to where over the last couple years it has progressed to a disgusting level of reliability. The last couple years the power goes out or flickers multiple times a day. The frequent outages has killed $1000's of dollars in inhabitants in my reef aquarium. This happens mostly because I will be asleep when it happens and am unable to get the gas generator hooked up in time before the temperature drops to dangerous levels. It has also damaged endless electronics.

I have contacted them many times over the outages and constant flickers on a daily basis... but like others have stated they more or less tell me that it isn't their problem - "due to the weather" but they are downright liars. This happens on clear days, when it is sunny, lightly sprinkling... Regardless of the weather conditions this happens. Years ago they actually increased the power bill by 100% and their excuse was it was because they were gonna use this extra money to repair lines and their facilities, which if anything it has gotten much much worse with the outages. They have rude customer reps that tell you it is out of their control and I will just have to deal with it. Power outages happen but this is insane. I wish the state would step in to rectify this situation, but I fear this will never happen.

She was told by them ten days that didn't happen, then she called them back and was told "well we have fifteen days". This is ridiculous. They are rude, inconsiderate, lead you on wild goose chase, put you on hold, you can't ever just get a straight honest answer from AEP. Lock yourself out of bill matrix not 1-2 days, but a month before you can pay your bill online again. No luck at all so she said she would leave her my phone number to call me back and again she was sorry and wanted to cry with me knowing I had been calling and calling.

Anyhow days passed and I got no return call. It's been a runaround for almost a month trying to get a letter stating they weren't responsible for the fire damage from their power lines. One last thing, I watched the news last night august 11, 2015 and AEP had not contacted an apartment complex for a power outage. Many people were upset for loss of food and displacement. In 2003 I was fed up with AEP and their tree (butchers), Asplundh's total disregards for my trees and property. The problem was that they never trimmed the trees, they would top them and one side the trees for the purpose of killing the trees, thus violating their own easement to my farm property. The easement from 1936, stated that they can only trim limbs overhanging or touching the wires. I found out that an easement is just a contract between two consenting parties. When one party no longer consents to the easement agreement or the easement holder (AEP), violates its own Easement, the Easement can be erased.

In 2003 I erased my utility easement with AEP and recoded the "erasural" with my County Recorder, attaching it to my deed. To date it has worked. But, today, July 29, 2015, I was informed by my local sheriff, that the tree trimmers (Asplundh) would be at my farm tomorrow to trim my trees. I informed the Sheriff that AEP has no easement to my property and must have my permission to trim. How with this play out?

UPDATED ON 09/26/2015: I had stated that I was notified by our Local Sheriff that AEP would be coming to trim my trees the next day. I explained to the sheriff that AEP no longer had a utility easement upon my farm and showed him the legal document recorded with my deed at the Allen Co. Courthouse. The Sheriff checked it out and called me back, notifying me that AEP would not be coming to my property to trim my trees. It works! Don't get mad! Get even! Use our laws to protect our property from destruction. Without an easement AEP, or any utility company, water etc. must have your permission to come unto your land. Hope this helps someone who has been bullied by these companies.

When my husband went into the office to complain that the next street over from us had power, one gentleman said "Oh no we turned that power off and forgot to turn it back on". Really? Are you kidding me? It was on within 15 minutes. Now it is off again after a storm went through. A storm that was not even severe. The worker last night told my husband they turned it off to locate a problem but 24 hours later we still have no power.

Today a neighbor said that he was told that a line was down but it was not a line that affected us and no one has been back since last night to repair. So why is our power still off? It seems that every time the power company decides to turn off someone's power they choose us. This is absolutely unacceptable and should NEVER be allowed to happen. I don't know who is in charge but they need to look into this and put a stop to it. Obviously they are not doing their jobs. We pay too much for our service for this to be allowed.

I received a text from AEP the next day saying payment of $100.73 by 7-2-2015 to avoid disconnection. I had explained to the person I spoke with that I'm on disability and get paid on the 3rd of the month so I assumed he gave me a couple extra days on my extension. On July 1st they shut off my electric service. I was home at the time and went out to speak to the person to see why they shut it off prior to the date it showed on my text. I tried to show her the text as well. She called in and they said I was given an extension until the 30th and broke the agreement. She suggested I call in and speak with someone so I called and they said they could not see the text but I broke the agreement by not paying on the 30th. They told me I needed to pay $222.40 to be reconnected.

They said if I paid before 5pm it may be possible to be reconnected that day. I told her I couldn't pay before the 2nd because I was getting paid a day earlier than my usual pay day. I also told them it makes no sense to anyone that they charge extra when people struggle to pay their bill and get behind. I paid my bill online at 1am on the 2nd and later in the afternoon I was reconnected. This put me behind on all my other bills and lost all my food. The only decent person I dealt with was the person that shut my service off. She was just doing her job and did call to tell them I had a text saying I had till the 2nd. It's a shame we have to be charged large amounts and can't do anything about it. I don't know how some of the people that work in their customer service department can feel ok about treating people so poorly. The only option I was given was a nine month payment agreement, which I was not informed of the fact that by agreeing too I would be enrolled in the AMP (AVERAGE MONTHLY PAYMENT) Budget. I was not told and was unaware until 7/7/2015, there was a six month payment plan that would not have required me to pay (AMP) an average of the insane and criminal monthly amount that would insure my delinquency and therefore insure my bill would be charged $195 required deposit of which added to my already obscenely delinquent bill and making a bad situation worse.

AEP helped me by bleeding me dry with my overdue balance, a near $400 AMP payment and to really stick it to me, a recurring $195 punishment. Sorry, I mean, required deposit payment. Appalachian Power is a prime example of runaway corporate greed. This is by far the worst utility company I have ever dealt with. First off, they take full advantage of the fact that they have a monopoly on electric service in this area by charging outrageous rates and keep increasing these rates, and the state commission not only allows them to get away with it, but grants them permission to do so. Can you say "kickbacks"? If you call to discuss why a bill has more than doubled since the same month the previous year, all you can get is some obnoxious jerk giving you the runaround. And God forbid you ask to speak to a supervisor! You will get "There is nobody here that can do anymore than I can." Must be nice to have your customers in a stranglehold, knowing that they only have two choices: go without electricity or bend over and take it from them.

And the reliability of the service is unpredictable at best. Where I live, every time the wind gets up, a rain or snow event, and the power goes out!!! Mostly because they don't maintain the lines to keep them free from tree limbs..I called them several times last fall about lines running through trees in my neighborhood. They did nothing about it, and on a windy day their line came down when a limb fell.

So they have "scheduled maintenance" but they don't bother to send a notice to their customers the power will be off!!! Come on, it's 2015!! Ever thought about an email or text to let people know their power will go off? Today, a Saturday, the power goes off at 11:45 AM while I'm right in the middle of taking a shower! Pitch black, trying to turn off water, get out of the shower, and fall over something in the floor, and go crashing into the bathroom door! Maybe time to send them my chiropractor bill!!

About 2 or 3 years ago, I noticed my electric bill started to skyrocket. We went from paying around $150.00 a month in the winter and only $100.00 in the summer to almost $600.00 every month. They charge me a deposit fee on every bill because we have such a hard time keeping up. Several times we have paid our bill in full with a credit card so we could afford to pay the other bills and get food in our house only to get another bill around $600.00. Now we are careful as to what we need to keep on and keep our furnace down to 67-68 in the winter and hardly run the A/C in the summer. How can people keep up on this, and when did they start charging me so much on my bill. How can they get away with charging a deposit fee on my bills, am I renting an apartment from them, that's what it feels like. My electric bill is only $200.00 off of my house payment a month, how stupid!

This is a huge company, I realize they have bills to pay as well, but you know they are not hard-pressed for business nor money. They need to quit raking people over the coals. I am never going to be able to keep up at this rate. At one time we did do a monthly budget with them our bill was $175.00 a month. STAY AWAY from their budget plans these are scams! They give you a monthly rate to pay, only to find out you will owe them so much more. They threatened us several times to disconnect us due to by the end of winter, we owed them close to $1500.00. We couldn't get off the budget plan 'til we paid it in full. That amount we charged to the credit card again as we have to do more times than not.

I am tired of breaking the bank, credit cards and scrimping on food and household items to pay this damn bill. I have 3 kids, my husband and I both work full time, make good money and still we struggle to keep up. We have cut so many corners only to find the hole is getting deeper. They should not be able to charge a deposit on my account. I can realize doing it when you first start a service but to do it repeatedly because you try to keep up with them is stupid. The deposit should be against the law, my other utilities don't do that but to be honest, I don't get behind in them like I do AEP - only because they aren't as high as my electric bill.

The rates have stayed the same on my other utilities and AEP has climbed over the years. Something has to be done about this. They are getting out of control on the rates. And truly to be honest, I believe they are charging for other things, just not showing it on my bill nor on the website when I go to view my account. They are scamming and overcharging the customer by a lot, and when you call in to ask about it and get some answers, you get the run around. I truly believe the higher uppers need to pay more attention to these things and fix this problem before AEP gets more out of control on the prices and rates than they are now. Someone needs to listen to these complaints and really look into this issue.

I have been unfairly assessed with another deposit from AEP(!) because my payments over the winter months has been late. Payments are being made every month, however they are late. I'M on a fixed income, and the fact that I'M unable to make full payments in a timely manner, makes me question the reasoning behind the adding a deposit onto my account!! What is that solving? How is it going to help me or you??? Obviously adding an additional $50 onto my bill for the next several months is only making it higher! My income is not increasing, so where am I supposed to obtain that extra money from?!?!?! Is this some type of vicious cycle that you're catching customers up in to extort money, without having to face any type of federal charges?

Shame on you AEP!!!! And you have the nerve to pretend you're looking out for our best interest by making us aware of the "telephone scam" when the whole time, you have a scam of your own going on!! You know that in order for us to survive and care for our families, we rely on your services, however, you try to distract us with foolishness long enough to get enough wool for the eyes of the majority, or should I say "the poor"...

I called three separate times and received three different answers. I then called the State Corp. Commission, filed a complaint and they set up a three month payment plan with AEP. I received confirmation of the plan from AEP. All worked out. If AEP will not work with you, call the agency that regulates them and get your help through the state Corp. However, you have to try AEP first, then called the state corp. that regulates AEP and file a complaint over the phone. It took me 2 days to get my payment plan with NO DEPOSIT. Don't complain if you do not act, that is what the State Corp. is for. At least try.

So I paid the amount of 82$ hoping after that the electric would be turned back on but no they said I had to wait 1-3 business days for it to get turned on and there was nothing I could do about. AEP is a really poorly run business. I have had them for years and always used their bill pay online, and a few months ago I paid my scheduled payment as always and a day after it was due got a e-mail from them saying the electronic check had been returned and listed the last four numbers of the checking account. I didn't recognize the last four of the checking account, so I called AEP and got some lady there and told her what was going on and asked if she had any idea of what happened. She said no but I could go ahead and pay over the phone, so I did and she said it wasn't a big deal and not to worry about anything. So I paid it over the phone and was still trying to figure out where the account number came from, but figured she said it wasn't a big deal.

I then went to pay my bill this month and went to their website and clicked pay bill, it pops up and says, "You can't pay your bill online anymore!!" So I called AEP and got a lady there and asked her what was going on. She said that since I had a bad check that I could no longer pay there, I said I don't even know where the checking account number came from on the payment that bounced. After a few minutes she says, "Well it looks like you must have changed it." I told her I just clicked on the same stuff I had for years, she then says there isn't anything she can do about it. I told her that, "for one bad check that you are going to punish me by making me run all over the place to pay your bill" and she said yes.

I then asked her for the name of the CEO and she told me his first name and then she changed the subject so I then again asked her for his name and she said that she couldn't provide that to me because she had to go up the chain to her supervisor and on from there to get it. I told her to forget it - I could get it online. This is a piss poor way to run a business in my opinion. There isn't any difference between mailing them a check that will bounce or an electronic one, and since all the years I have had them they have never had any returned checks from me.

I did manage to find out that the other check that did bounce was my fault, somehow it had listed a checking account of mine that was closed 15 years ago, and still trying to figure out how that happened? But just like everything else AEP does, they could care less about people as long as they get their money, they know they got you over a barrel cause there isn't anyone else you can get so as long as it is that way they can treat you like trash and all you can do is take it!

I asked about my average amount since I moved in and was told I never have averaged more than $100 a month. So I said "Well if I can't make a payment for 3 or 4 months would that be ok?" and was told "No, 2 months." and was told my deposit was too much and I said, "I agree" and was told it should be about a month and a half to two months of average monthly. But they won't give me my $200 of it back until I make 12 months of on time payments and it's hard to do for me at the moment since I broke my ankle and have R.S.D. If I am ever late it might be about 2 weeks.

I just want to be treated right and want the $200 back. I'm fine with them having the other 200 since they won't let you go but 2 months behind and they will shut you off so they won't lose anything if I did get shut off with 200 in deposits so why would they need 400 and who can I go to. After several unsuccessful attempts, I was able to speak with a "supervisor" named **. She refused to give me her last name. She did provide her extension number (**) but am not sure if it is correct. This individual was rude and argumentative. She was unhelpful and refused to cooperate with me (the home owner) and refused to help the City of Huntington. She also refused to connect me to someone else.

Soon after, I spoke with a paralegal that works for a law firm in Huntington. The paralegal informed me that people like ** are hired by AEP to be uncooperative and to be difficult. Worse is that we live in the shadow of the power plants. Why do we have to pay for their upgrades when we and our fathers before us have built these plants with our taxes in the first place. We get no benefits from them except polluted water, heavy traffic and most likely the highest cancer rates in the country. Why do we not get a rate break since we live in their shadows. I for one am switching to natural gas but who knows how long the prices will stay down for that. I'm sure the powers to be and greedy 1% will ** that up for the average real working citizen also.

Then you call to tell them that you know the house is not pulling that much power. You get the run around about getting someone out to check the meter. Really!!! People have to pay their bill according to how they get paid. Don't penalize the customer for that. It is not like AEP is hurting for any money by far. And the customer service people are hateful as crap. They do not want to help you fix or resolve anything. Charging people TWO deposits is crazy and unfair to the customers of AEP... I get my bill and not only have I used nearly 500KwH less this year at this time than last year, but I also notice that my bill is now nearly 3 dollars more a day. Why? I call them and ask. Now mind you that fuel costs have plummeted to nearly 1/4th what they were last year, at 1.87 for gas vs. 3.49 this time last year. But no, AEP is now charging 3 dollars more a day than they were this time last year. So now my electric bill, which was $279.00 anyway is now $379.00 a month for an 879 sq ft apartment. I would cut the cord myself if I was allowed to. Gas is cheap enough to buy a generator and use that for everything vs. these crooked criminals...

My complaint with them is that they jacked the rates without telling me. They didn't send me any information to tell me that the rates were going up, and that they were adding new fees to the bill. Had they told me that, I would have budgeted myself better for the winter, instead of now not having the ability to pay my bill.

Two summers ago I was doing yard work and noticed the glass was a bit smokey on the electric meter. I touched the exterior of the box and thought it to be hot; much warmer than what seemed normal. I called AEP PSO and informed them of what I had found and they said they would start a service request and someone will be out to check it soon. 2 Weeks later, doing yard work again, I noticed the glass was now nearly opaque and you could barely read the dials. I called AEP PSO and explained that I had already called and no one has come out. She said that it was most likely "Normal condensation" and "If we said someone was coming out, they will come out." I explained that condensation normally forms droplets of some sort and this was clearly smoke, not condensation and the box was WAY hot. She told me that it was summer and the box being hot was normal.

About a week later, around 9 pm, half of the lights went off in my home. Certain rooms were fine but other rooms had no electric. Immediately, I went to check the breaker box and found no tripped breakers. I went to my neighbor’s house and asked them if their service was normal and it was. I walked outside in my back yard and saw molten metal dripping from the meter box and a loud buzzing noise. I immediately called AEP PSO and explained the situation and they said someone would be right out and that I should go turn off the main breaker to the house and I did. It was August and hot and now dark, while we waited until 1:30 am when he finally showed up.

He opened the box and found that a corroded lug was causing a short. He did not have a replacement on the truck and told me I would need to call an electrician in the morning, but he could leave HALF of the service connected for the time being. I asked who was going to pay for this repair and he told me that if the electrician determined the meter was bad, PSO would. Well, the lug is part of the "BOX". The wire coming from the pole belongs to PSO. The Meter belongs to PSO. But the little metal "socket" in between the two, is all my responsibility. Regardless of the fact that it's attached to THEIR wire with THEIR meter plugged into it, all locked up in a box that belongs to ME, but is a criminal misdemeanor if I cut the little tab and open it without their consent. "OKAY, fine... Whatever."

Here's where I get ticked off. My bill for that month was $1200.00! Normal bill for August $350. Obviously this thing was drawing some serious current, whilst melting and smoking and what naught. Had they come out when I called originally, none of this would have happened. The corroded lug would have been identified and replaced and all would have gone on without further incident. I went as far up the chain as they would let me go and was basically told to get bent. I spent a year trying to get somewhere with these people and finally gave up. I even asked for a partial credit...nope. "But we'll split it up over 3 months for you!" Gee thanks. They are crooks in every way, shape and form.

When calling because I received the next month's without the adjusted amount, the customer service rep advised me that it was their error because "they had an employee out that day" and they just estimated the usage and ended up taking a real reading that was different. My bill has never been the amount it was in the past year, so I was questioning why it was so high because we actually used less AC and heat. The rep basically told me I was out of luck, nothing further they could do. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was put on hold, only for her to come back and tell me they are only required to check the actual meter 3 times per year.

After asking for the supervisor again, I finally received one. He was about useless and didn't help at all, other than telling me that he could see where I called in that day about my bill and where the rep was supposed to send the information over to the other department to review and have adjusted, but he didn't know if anything would actually get adjusted. I'm upset because I feel as if they are overcharging me because they had an employee out that day and they aren't willing to look at the error and handle it themselves. They aren't even willing to apologize and do anything for a good customer when it was their fault, admitting this themselves. I think this whole thing is a complete joke, their error because someone was out that day and I'm the one who has to pay for it. What a joke of a company this is!!!

They are rudest, most heartless people and I hope someone can find a way to shut them down.

I am renting a mobile home and the owner has an outstanding bill with AEP and winter is coming and needing electric. I called AEP and was putting in for new service and they denied me and said that the owner or I needed to pay the outstanding balance.

AEP, pole and distribution power line fell and electrocuted my horse, luckily she is still alive. They can't give me a reason as to what happened and why it fell, and now they won't help me pay her vet bills and the other amenities I had to acquire for my horse's health. I don't have money for an attorney to help me file a lawsuit, so now I am $132.000 in debt for my horse which will never be able to give riding lessons again and she is now very spooky and lame. They told me it would have been cheaper to just put her down which really upsets me. They are a billion dollar company, their power line fell and hit my horse and why they don't think they should pay for the damages is stupid. Please help me with anything and all comments and advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm single mother of 4 and I receive SSI and that's my only income. I get trying to pay all utilities and rent is no joke. I made a payment arranged with AEP and paid it late and they want me to pay the full amount of 463.74 by September 9, 2014 - and I don't have that kind of money right now. They wouldn't even work with me. All they would do is give me a list of organizations that would help me.

I hate AEP more than any thing on this planet. Aep employees, staff, president are all liars and are stealing people's money. I had two meter readers come out from the rocky mount va location to turn off my power for non-payment and they couldn't get the meter box open so they beat it off the pole with a hammer and blamed it on me. So I called the police and they wouldn't do anything Cuz it was civil matter. So I filed a lawsuit. In the meantime Aep refused to turn my power back on even after I paid my bill. So I was the one that had to fix it myself causing me probably to get electrocuted. Aep employees are liars. Aep is over-charging everyone that is their customer. I live in a mobile home and in the wintertime they charge me over $500.00 for electric. They should be shot, sued, made to pay people back the trillions of dollars they have stolen from poor people. I hate AEP with a passion and as soon as I get my law degree I'm going to file every lawsuit I can against them in federal court. **.

Aep decided to charge its late paying customers a deposit fee that equals the amount of their two previous bills. They say it is to keep from raising rates so let's watch and see if they request a rate increase in the near future! AEP you are a greedy corporation!
