I’ve been a loyal Travelzoo customer for years and have always been happy with their packages. Recently, I booked an all-inclusive package at the same property I visited last year, despite the price being $400 more. However, after checking out, I was shocked to be charged $3,000 for a 4-night stay, despite paying for an all-inclusive plan. It turns out Travelzoo had tacked on $600 (21%) in hidden taxes, buried in the fine print. On top of that, they charged $150 per day for kids, who only ate basic meals like chicken tenders and quesadillas, which felt absurd. There were also additional service fees and taxes that I wasn’t charged for last year. For reference, last year’s total bill was $800, including a $250 massage and gratuities.

When I reached out to Travelzoo, I received a generic, unhelpful response. The property itself is decent (4/5), but it’s definitely not worth $6,000 for four nights. I could stay at the Four Seasons and cover meals for my family of three for less than that! I won’t be booking through Travelzoo again—they’ve lost a loyal customer due to their shady practices and hidden fees.

I would give 0 if I can. They kept my $897. I purchased a trip to China in 32023. Due to travel restrictions they cancelled my trip and gave me a credit with only 18 months to use it. Super frustrated that I didn't just get my money back, since they were the ones who cancelled it. I wasn't able to rebook within the 18 months, because the price difference between the tour I had booked and their other tours was significant 10-30 X higher) and I just don't have that kind of available funds to increase my budget during those 18 months. So they just kept my money and I got nothing out of it. The tour was highly discounted, so it definitely seems like this is unethical business to lure buyers in with a good deal, cancel on them with only a credit given, that also with expiration date, which would then require them to use that credit on a higher priced deal in the future. Not happy with the way they do business at all. They are scammers, stay away as far as you can.

I have received TravelZoo's "top 20" trips for years. I have occasionally used their recommendations, and felt I could trust their vetting of the tour companies. Travelzoo has promoted UTOVacation tours, even after it became apparent that this company is a scam. I have lost thousands of dollars by prepaying for a "sponsored trip" that was continually cancelled, only to get UTOVacation's "bait and switch" marketing to go on a considerable more expensive tour. They refuse to refund my money and now state that my account "expires" on 9/7/24.

After considerable effort from my end, UTOVacation is unable to be reached (they don't accept "outside" emails and do not respond to notifications via their website). I have received NO contact from them. In 2023 their accreditation with the Better Business Bureau of Ontario was suspended. (2012-2024) Has now rebranded as New Pioneer Travel (2024). Travelzoo, I am sure, is well aware of this company and the hundreds of complaints against it. What is Travelzoo doing to help victims (like me) to get resolution? I wrote to Travelzoo's customer email, and the response pretty much was "we are not responsible." This experience has negated my trust in Travelzoo's tour company recommendations.

Updated on 09/25/2024: Time for me to write another review, it seems that, although slowly, things are moving when I post. Travelzoo(R) says that has nothing to do with the Travelzoo optimization platform. However, after going through all platform's pages, again, I realized that at the "about Us tab the name is written as original (see att. below)

As mentioned previously, after my first review, I received a response from a Travelzoo manager who offered me a deal. After my second post, he offered the same deal, but this time from platform's aspect, not personally. A month later, I am still waiting for my money to be paid, and like I told him: "I WILL NOT GIVE YOU MORE OF MY MONEY. YOU NEED TO PAY ME, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!" What amount are we talking about? 20K. No, I did not deposit all that money, that is portion mine, portion of another member (recommender), and a good portion my payment.

A couple of days ago I asked him what is the connection with the real Travelzoo, his response: it is connected but a confidential project.
    - "Which means that the main company does not know about what this platform does, but reaps the benefits."

    - "this is a confidential project, when you register you can also see in the user agreement."

Well, if you like to keep it confidential, you better pay me my money, or my next step is to post my ordeal at the hotels optimized by Travelzoo pages.

Updated on 08/20/2024: I emailed the customer service as I was told, and the only response I have received so far is the proof that my message has been received. On the other hand, I received a WhatsApp message from the TravelZoo manager, as he mentioned, offering me a deal. That is interesting. From my understanding, people are making money there, therefore, I have not lost money to a real scam. It seems, though, that it will take a little more publicity before I get my money out.

Original: Travel Zoo is using an optimization process, to promote different hotels. As long as they are not asking for fake reviews, I am ok with that. But, I would be better if I get paid for the work I do, and not asked to pay more money than I make. Being in networking business, or any kind of business, you need to put some money down in order to make the big bucks. But TZ is lying when they say you will get your money tomorrow. It's been a month now, and they are asking me for money. That is a scam! Travel Zoo is a scam.

It saddens me that Travelzoo supports vendors such as Exoticca! Twelve people in my tour group were left stranded at the Lima airport all day with the in country travel agent not able to assist because Exoticca would not approve the travel plans. We arrived for a 5:00Am flight and were in the airport with promises that Exoticca was working on it. They could have at least told us they were doing nothing so we could leave the airport and enjoy the day. We ended up having to book our own hotel and transportation to and from the airport at 8:00PM! This delay caused a cancellation for another tour. I have used Travelzoo for many years, but I too will NOT be paying a membership. PLEASE screen your vendors! Exoticca is NOT Better Business approved!

Unfortunately, as I'm sure you've learned by now, they are a complete SCAM. They cancelled my "Bargain Trip" due to COVID promising a credit to book a future trip. But has never had any trip available that would allow me to use this credit without giving them a considerable greater amount. They refuse just to refund despite their claim to have added insurance to the package and they initiated the cancellation. Have you been successful in helping your customers get resolution from them? It has impacted my willing to trust your recommendations in the future. They are unable to even reach at this point and refuse to provide true customer service.

Really! With the type of service that is being provided, I bet you guys are going to have a lot of your loyal customers actually leave and go elsewhere, because I am one of them. There is a reason you pay for a membership, it’s so that you provide professional service. Look at all your 1 and 2 stars reviews. You guys need to have a board meeting and “clean house” or come up with a new strategy or company policy. So sad to see Travelzoo has come to this… Just utterly sad.

We did their Costa Rica package and the first stop was at Montana de Fuego near Arenal. What a dump!!! Air conditioner didn’t work when we got to our room, they wouldn’t put us in another casita or throw us a bone for having to spend the night in a sauna. Other than breakfast, the food was pretty bad too. Ordered a margarita pizza and got something that tasted like it came out of a box, red, not white sauce and tomatoes, no basil. Wife’s thicken tasted ok but was pretty tough. The restaurant had a leak in the roof and the ceiling had black mold all over it. We ate at different restaurants after that. I would run from this deal, you get what you pay for.

Wanted to warn others in case you fall for this company's scam, they took $4,300 from us. We (my brother, his wife and my wife) noticed a post on TravelZoo and bought a China tour package for four ($1,984) on 07-Dec-2021 from UTO Vacation to depart on 29-Oct-2022. UTO advised us about canceling the trip due to COVID-19 and that the $1,984 would be credited toward a future tour with them. We then reserved a China/Thailand tour package for four ($4,300) on 07-Sep-2022 from UTO Vacation to depart on 06-Mar-2024. Then, we received an email warning of travel restrictions to China in July 2023 with possible cancellation of the trip by UTOvacation.

Since then, having received no further communications about the trip, I attempted to contact UTO multiple times over phone to no avail until I reached an agent through their website's online chat on 12-Feb-2024, - I was advised that UTO Vacation suspended our trip because we had not paid an additional $300pp mandatory gratuity fee that was due 150 days before the trip (stated on invoice in fine prints).

Regarding the fine prints on the Invoice, under the Terms and Conditions, "If the full payment is not obtained by the due date, UTOvacation reserves the right to cancel such reservation and retain the pre-paid deposit to cover any expenses occurred." How dare they take the whole amount we've been paying since 2021? They just took $4,300 from us without any notice.

UTO Vacation now refuses to deliver any service (trip, credit, or refund) that we'd paid multiple installments for since 2021 totaling $4,300. We never received any notice from UTO regarding the unpaid $300pp tips until I recently reached out and was told our trip had been cancelled again by UTO Vacation. We knew that there is unpaid balance $300x4=$1,200 but why they didn't give us any notice before cancelling the trip and taking $4,300 from us? It's a trap for customers. UTOvacation is an unethical company, now refusing to render any services or offer a refund on $4,300 what we'd paid for. So far, we reported to TravelZoo and the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) in Canada, currently waiting for response.

Like another reviewer, in late 2022 we booked & paid for UTO China/Thailand March 2023 trip w/ 3-day Phuket extension. We expected that the $499 pp “bare-bones deal” would actually wind-up to $1,500 pp. Operator chose to cancel trip due to Covid issues w/ China, and pressured us to take travel credit reassuring us same tour would come available soon and we would be notified so we could rebook. Well, other somewhat similar trips have been advertised for about $500 more, but UTO never communicates with us and always responds that they are sold out even though UTO continues to advertise on their website as a TravelZoo member deal. Here it is 12 months later, they have had our $6,000 and we have not been able to book using our credit, even though we have sadly accepted that it will be about $500 pp more.

Currently, we are told all Asian trips are “sold out”; they always are. Good businesses would fill “back orders “ first before filling new ones. I am believing a travel agent friend that says UTO will only book a very small number of persons, about 4 slots per tour, with travel credit since UTO probably did not escrow the $6,000. They have many persons with their “travel credits” so the chances of us being the first four are slim to none. If you don’t want to lose your credit by deadline, you are forced to take a trip anywhere just not to lose your credit and pay the higher regular price. Crucial advice: Don’t take travel credit from this company, we all bought travel insurance but could not make claim for refund after accepting travel credit.

This was when he said we wanted reservations for a more expensive tour on an earlier date than the original quote, and that the tour we requested was no longer available. We, of course, declined. All 4 of us were on the original call, so there was no mis-understanding which tour was to be put on hold. Typical bait and switch tactic by Exoticca. I joined Travelzoo when it first began operations and I have used their referrals many times and always had good experiences. However, they promoted a company UTO Vacations which sold a very inexpensive China/Thailand trip. Payment was required up front even for a trip that was two years away. Several times the company cancelled our reservation and would only offer credit not a refund. Every time I demanded a refund, they would reinstate the trip. The trip was scheduled for next week and they cancelled it yet again. They offered to delay it for another two years or provide credit. It's obvious that this company is selling services and pocketing the cash and not honoring their commitments. Travelzoo should screen the companies which they recommend better, or stand behind the vacations booked through their site.

BUYER BEWARE. I purchased a Travelzoo voucher with a daily $100 F&B Credit & a daily $100 SPA credit. Upon arrival at the hotel, the hotel informs me that the credits have restrictions on how they are to be used and applied. There was no restrictions listed on the Travelzoo website prior to purchasing and no restrictions on the voucher I received from Travelzoo, nothing even in the fineprint. Travelzoo customer service says the hotel is still providing the credit (no matter what type of restriction the hotel throws on top). Classic case of Bait & Switch. So do no trust what Travelzoo advertises, ever. I left the hotel immediately and Travelzoo customer service has been slow to respond and of no help and will not provide any type of recourse. They have lost a long time customer and I hope this helps you in your decision to consider using them.

Although I have previously purchased a voucher from Travelzoo and had no issue but not this time round. I recently purchased two vouchers for Sideways Inn in Buellton California for our self and as a wedding anniversary gift for family members. After arrival there, I realized that the actual Inn did not look anything like the picture advertised in Travelzoo. Upon mentioning that to the Hotel concierge, they told us that they have reported the issue to Travelzoo but it has not been corrected. The picture is of the building in downtown Solvang, California. I think this was false advertisement. So all I shall say to people to please when purchasing the hotel vouchers, do search the website of the hotel before purchasing from Travelzoo

I purchased a voucher in August for the following month for a spa day with 4 of my friends. I had every intention of using the voucher within the month of September. However, the day before the spa day I tested positive for COVID. Obviously I had to skip the spa day. This was on 09/15. Assuming 10 days to fully test negative and be safe to be around others, it would be 09/25. I knew I would be unable to fit a spa day into my schedule in those final 5 days of the month so I called TravelZoo to see if I could extend the voucher for another month. I totally understood that I was outside of the 14 refund period and was not asking for a refund. I was told that there were no options for extending. I could use the “base value” of the voucher which was $169 but the reason we went through Travel Zoo at all was because it was a discount for the normal spa experience of $215.

So basically I was getting no benefit for buying the voucher and if I want to book my massage now I have pay an extra $50. It seems wrong that this company has no contingency plans in place for legitimate reasons for not using a voucher. COVID is on the rise again and I’m being punished for doing the right thing and keeping those around me safe.

Recently I have been working with Jetline Vacation who provides travel packages advertised on TravelZoo. This has been one of the most awful experiences of my travel arrangements. The company initially suggested to upgrade my travel package that was advertised on TravelZoo. I did so. They suggested that with this upgraded I would get four star hotels and flights with lesser layover time. I paid over a $1000 to get this upgrade. However when I checked the quality of these supposedly upgraded hotels they were way below the promised four stars. Then Jetline representative contacted me and suggested that our flight has been cancelled and we could fly on another flight three days before the scheduled date or two days after. Of course it did not make sense since we had other reservations for hotels and trips already setup.

Then they suggested that they would offer to us a flight on the previously arranged date but for a much higher price. Initially I agreed to this, but almost immediately changed my mind. They said that this is too late and I am out of $600 for the changed flight. Now I am trying to cancel the travel package, but they are talking about exorbitant cancellation fees. This is a nightmare! Today I read the whole bunch of 1 star reviews for Jetline Vacation. Apparently I am in the majority of people who have horrible experience with them.

I see the fact that TravelZoo deals with this type of agents as a fraud and will pursued it accordingly. There is another TravelZoo company that we reserved tickets with to travel to China. They are called UTO Vacations. We have paid them a deposit and I am truly worried that we will never see our money back! They also have nearly one star rating in consumer reviews. So it seems like TravelZoo systematically deals with deceptive and unethical companies. Consumers beware!

I am so very disappointed in my recent experience with UTOvacation. I have been a Travelzoo member for many years, and always had great experiences with your Top 20 vacation deals. My experience with UTO was very different. Same as previous posts regarding the advertisement of UTO vacations. UTO changed the submission date, and then said the tour was booked in full even though I said I could be very flexible on dates. Now I am out 4k. UTO is offering my family a travel credit, but as I read more about the company this is just another bait and switch to get more money out of you, to again cancel with the offer of a credit. After doing research I see this is not an isolated case, and many families have lost thousands to this company, and by extension Travelzoo is benefiting from the traffic to their site. Travelzoo continues to advertise this company's deals even after the abundance of burned customers.

I also booked a trip from UTO Vacations but UTO did follow their own Terms and Conditions. They changed the "submission of forms" dates requirement after we had paid them in FULL. They have cancelled and rebooked us three times, each time asking for more money., I thought eventually it would happen, but now two years later they just cancelled again. Then they cancelled us and refused to refund the monies paid. Travelzoo continues to endorse them too. I'm not alone as I heard stories from others of the same incident. I put down a deposit for couple of trips with UTO. They cancelled my China/India order(#**) for more than a year ahead of the scheduled?? The trip is not depart until OCTOBER 15, 2023. UTO transfer my money from that order to another booking without my authorization. I try to contact UTO by phone and emails with no success. After 7 months and a 1 star review on their website, Amy ** calls, offer no explain, refuse a refund and ask if I would like to reinstate the trip now. If they did that from the start I would get into their trap, to pay final payments + mandatory tip (UTO charge $30 tipping a day pp, outrageous) and would have loose more money.

I declined the offer, ask Amy ** to provide documents to support her reason for not refund my $1200, now UTO stay silence again. UTO can not be trusted, they using the pandemic to steal our money without providing any service, they keep selling tours knowingly that these tours will be cancel. In my case it is 100% of UTO fault, UTO still refuse to give me a refund, twisting their words, pointing fingers and keep the money. I will not go away quietly, I gave UTO enough time and chances to do the right thing and they refuse to do it. So I would like to bring the awareness to fellow travelers and asking someone with legal background to look into UTO practice. I will keep making noises until UTO refund me of my money. Can someone in Vancouver BC contact local TV station to have a story on this company?

We booked in Nov 2022 for a trip in Nov 2023 with UTO vacations. Per documentation (we have copies) last payment was supposed to be May 2023. One month (April) before last payment I contacted them to get status on visas process. They claimed they had sent an email in February (that email was never received) and was told that I was dropped by the list and couldn't go to the trip (I have the chat conversations). They didn't even had the courtesy to send an follow up or send email to let us know we have been dropped.

They are claiming that I "cancelled" the trip by not responding to that email and refuse to return our money. They would not admit that they cancelled us. BEWARE of this company. I have traveled to China before with another company and those deceiving practices were not used. Search the internet for other similar scams from UTO. Report them if you are one of their victims. Resort said no to upgrading & I can get a refund from Travelzoo. Then resort came back and said for $2282 we could get a 2nd bed. That’s more than the original cost for pkg deal already paid!! We then requested a refund or at least a credit with Travelzoo of whom rejected both options. The package deal ad never stated the # of beds. If it did, we clearly would not have purchased it, as we are two grown cousins that do not need to be sharing a bed. Especially for the money paid. It almost feels discriminatory that technically the package was geared towards couples. But now we are being punished and out $2300 because Travelzoo will not at least give us a credit.

We completed all requested documentation. I started researching visa requirements only to find China was requiring a mandatory 10-day isolation at your own expense when entering the county. Our whole trip was only 10 days. UTO was aware of this requirement when they advertised and sold the travel packages. When I contacted UTO Vacation their response was, "Sorry, you will have to take a credit and use toward a package that costs thousands more."

When I explained we didn’t want credit we wanted a refund they refused. As of this date, 4/15/23, we weren’t even given a credit. They have been contacted numerous times. This is a classic case of bait and switch. My friends and I are frequent travelers who will never book with UTO Vacation or Travelzoo again. I made a Travelzoo booking for 2 nights at a montreal hotel for late october. I later called travelzoo to cancel while within the “no penalty" time. I was charged (booked, later cancelled) 1 night by the hotel despite documented proof from travelzoo that they had properly cancelled the reservation in time for there to be no charge. However, I was still billed by mastercard for 1 night by the hotel. I advised travelzoo of the error and they “forwarded” my complaint to the hotel. The hotel denied I was charged so I provided a copy of my mastercard statement showing the improper charge to travelzoo, which “forwarded” the documentation to the hotel. No advocacy despite documentation- just “forwarded”.

The hotel then told both travelzoo and me that that there was no record in their system of my credit card being charged (which was incorrect and travelzoo should have known that after reviewing my credit card statement). Undeniable proof positive yet travelzoo chose to accept wrong information from their business partner rather than the absolutely correct and documented information from both your customer and mastercard. Shame on travelzoo and more shame for pretending travelzoo was advocating for me (which is what travelzoo called “forwarding”)..

There was no advocating from travelzoo. All they did was forward my issue to the hotel and then nothing helpful. How could a reasonable business not confront the hotel demanding how the $$ were shown billed to the customer by mastercard with that hotel making the charges and receiving the $$??? Travelzoo certainly did not advocate for me at any time! Eventually, after I made a formal mastercard dispute, the hotel admitted I had been charged and refunded the $$ two months after they took it! Travelzoo did nothing than “forward

So, the hotel gave us wrong information about my being charged, I gave you correct information and travelzoo essentially washed its hands and said “not our problem”! I spent over a month getting it fixed while travelzoo did nothing other than forward my complaint and left me (and mastercard) to take the time and effort to resolve a travelzoo's customer's issue. And I got the travelzoo's customary response from lisa oswald (vp travelzoo) how I would rate my dealings with their customer service. As soon as I hit unhappy and unresolved, I got a page saying no sense completing. Travelzoo (lisa oswald??) would follow up with me. Never happened - no travelzoo followup.

So, I have used travelzoo before and yes, you may get a good product and a good price. However, if you run into any issue, don't expect help. In my case, they ignored my documented proof I was wrongly charged and accepted wrong information from their business partner. So, enjoy your travelzoo. Just pray nothing goes wrong because I could not count on travelzoo for support when I was absolutely right (and mastercard and later the hotel agreed I was). What makes you think they'll support you???

Ps. Lisa oswald, vp travelzoo. I'm still waiting to hear from you.

Travelzoo website promoted UTOvacation for Asia travel and I booked a trip to Japan in 2021 from UTO. However the trip had been cancelled by UTOvacation and the money paid turned to credit. When asked for a refund they said no. Rebooked a trip but at a higher price. In December I attempted to contact a rep for assistance but received none. This was to do a possible name change, or rebook the trip as the other person going could no longer go. I had previously purchased the UTO Assurance Program in which gives no penalty to rebook/reschedule, but you would have to pay a certain fee and wanted to use that. After not receiving satisfactory assistance or being able to talk directly to someone through phone I filed a dispute.

In the first week of February a rep (Amy) from that company promoted by Travelzoo called back to back, irritated that I would go through a dispute and demand I cancel it. Telling me I cannot do that because they have purchased the tickets, I have no proof that they did purchase anything as they hadn’t said anything nor sent anything. When told about the UtO Assurance that was purchased, Amy told me it was not guaranteed despite there being no writing detailing that it wouldn’t. And that it was too late despite me contacting the company multiple times within the 90 days before departure. She gave possible solutions that were unsatisfactory.

Why would they offer to purchase a service they cannot provide? After this call they changed their UTO Assurance Progam policy to fit their own agenda. Travelzoo is promoting a company that does not render purchased in services that they promise. They are also promoting an unreliable/dishonest company that has terrible customer service.

Jetline booked the cheapest flights possible of LIGHT FARES that do not include a checked in bag but they surely charged us for the more expensive flights! Our upgraded train vouchers for Business/1st Class were actually booked as SUPER SAVER fares the cheapest train ticket possible, not keeping our family together. Jetline actually booked us on different trains, different times and even different stations for senior citizens!

Lufthansa changed our departure flights to and from and gave Jetline 4 months notice but they never adjusted our trip or notified us. Their terms & conditions note they are not responsible for flight changes. I totally understand last minute flight changes, but 4 months in advance, and not processing it or even attempting to adjust our packages had us in 2 countries for less than 12 hours a piece! AND paying for 2 nights additional hotel stays that we could not use! I will NEVER book another trip on Travelzoo or Jetline in my lifetime and will shout from the rooftops to try and save any other family the heartache, stress, worry, and wet blanket put on our trip.

Received travel specials from Travelzoo. Travelzoo advertised for Exoticca Tours and I booked a trip leaving on October 27th 2022 to Petra Jordan. This tour company is awful. I went as a solo female traveler and they had no concern for my safety or my well-being. They advertise a good special for four star accommodations and after you arrive you are given a revised hotel accommodations that inform you that you've been placed in a one-star Hotel. Travelzoo should be held partially responsible because they advertise for Exoticca Tours. Travelzoo should investigate Exoticca Tours and make a strong decision on whether to continue to advertise this company on their website.

They have an unsubscribe at the bottom of the page but you have to make an account with them, including password, before you get into the site to unsubscribe. What kind of nonsense is this? I have blocked them time and time again but they keep getting into my inbox. Now I am getting emails almost every hour. Today, I did some research and found a phone number, I called to be told it will take time to remove my email since there are already many emails going into my inbox. I asked for a supervisor and their rep, Yamal, started arguing with me. Any company that has to keep someone hostage to keep up their numbers is a company you should never trust. Run from this nightmare. There are companies out there with good reputations.

Travelzoo website promoted UTOvacation for Asia travel and I booked a trip to Japan for Oct 2022 from UTO and made a deposit of $1200.00. However the trip has been cancelled by UTOvacation despite the fact that Japan has been fully opened earlier Oct. As specified by their customer service rep Amy on June 28th. I was assured during the call that my refund would be processed in next few days and was told not to worry about my money; however, it has taken more than four months with continued radio silence on their part despite consistent attempts to contact them regarding the refund.

On August 3rd I was sent an email saying the refund "was still pending approval" with no further elaboration. This company seemingly scams customers of cancelled trips by keeping their money and either refusing to refund or completely ignoring all requests for refunds. Upon further research, there have been an extensive number of complaints of the same issue, with some calling for a class action lawsuit. How could Travelzoo continue to advertise UTOvacation and more customers are trapped.

So far we have had great experiences booking off Travelzoo, this was an exception. Saw a very low price for 7 day trip to Jordan offered by Jetline Vacations. After calling we had a slight upsell in flights but were ready to book. Terms were 2/3 down and 1/3 due in 7 months. Jetline tried to charge the entire amount to my credit card. Fortunately, the credit card flagged it as fraud and we were able to get out with no financial damage. Run away from the company, they are dishonest.

I was a loyal Travelzoo fan for 15 years. Booked my honeymoon hotels in 2006 from Travelzoo and got hooked since! Travelzoo is an advertiser for UTOVacations, and every week there is one Top 20 deal that they recommend. So I booked a family vacation on June 21. I contacted UTOVacations within one week of booking to reschedule because my mother got diagnosed with late-stage cancer. However, they told me no dates are available, even though they were advertising new tour dates at the same time with Travelzoo! (See attached screenshots). I was told by them to contact my credit card company if I’m not happy with the travel date. That’s why I opened a dispute. However, UTOVacations then said, "We would have given you other dates but because you filed a dispute, we don’t want to do anything with you, and you lose your security deposit." It was frustrating to hear this after 2.5 months of diligent follow up.

I checked the contract terms again that said free reschedule. The terms do NOT state anywhere that you will lose security deposit IF you file for dispute. That’s when I started digging further into UTOVacations and read reviews where this company takes you on “mandated shopping trips” aka timeshare style. This was NOT mentioned anywhere in the Travelzoo advertisement! I realized that I booked with this merchant only because it was recommended by Travelzoo.

So I called Travelzoo and asked them why the merchant would NOT reschedule me. I even agreed to travel on the original date. After 6 weeks of diligent follow up with Travelzoo, I was told that the case is still being handled by upper management. Meanwhile every week, I continue to see UTO Vacation deals advertised in the Top 20!! There was more than one time when I heard the Travelzoo customer representative laughing as they reviewed my case notes, and I asked them “What is funny?” I heard back “Oh, I was just clearing my throat.”

I am so angry with Travelzoo. They sell their own holiday directly which I have so far had a 5* experience with. The last holiday I booked with them was from a 3rd party, but as it was on their website I naively presumed it would be a reputable company. I booked the holiday, I was told no less than 15 times on the phone when booking the holiday that it was ATOL protected, received an email a few weeks before the holiday saying my flight had been cancelled. I got this email from the airline not the travel agent, only because I registered with the airline on their website and added the booking, if I hadn't done that I would've got to the airport and been told then the flight was cancelled, Jetline didn't even bother to let me know.

Called them, said I want to cancel, OK if you do that we can't refund you anything!!! I blew my top at him. After going absolutely ballistic and saying fine I will do a charge back on my credit card, they immediately decided they would refund some money! The flight!! Said fine I'll do a charge back, then told ok we'll give you a refund minus £150!!! Jetline is a bunch of scam artists, they're all buttery when selling the holiday but then as soon as they have your money goodbye to any service!! Sorry for the long review just wanted to explain the whole experience, bottom line it's disgusting that travelzoo are advertising jetline holidays all over their website, especially after coming on here and seeing circa 300+ complaints about them!!

Bait and switch by Jetline Vacations through TravelZoo. We attempted to book a advertised trip on TravelZoo for a trip to Greece. The website advertised by TravelZoo was with a company called Jetline Vacations. The trip was advertised at $899. Sounds like a deal. Wrong! After an add on it went to $1299. The agent at Jetline Arthur was polite but soon became shady. After he and us agreed to the add on and the cost of $1299, Arthur advised that he would need a minute to confirm the flights. He came back and said the flights were long with long layovers to which we said that we could manage. He then said he was going to see if he could find better flights and would call us back, after a few minutes he called back, and said he found better flights but that it would cost $1799. We declined and said we would be fine with the $1299.

He then proceeded to say the $1299 flights were now no longer available after only a few minutes of telling us they were and we had agreed. We said then we would not be purchasing the trip to which he replied, "Let me check with a a manager." He then came back on the line and now said he could do the trip for $1599. What the heck is up with these shysters. Shame on Travelzoo for continuing to work with this company. I am not alone, look at all these sad disgruntled customers. Please TravelZoo consider your reputation as using these types of unsatisfactory companies is damage your reputation too. We did not book and will never consider Jetline Vacations.

I've had great luck booking trips with offers I've found through Travelzoo. I've read some of the bad reviews, but it seems as though people expect things that this company doesn't do. As far as I can tell, they're an information clearinghouse; they exist to gather information about *other companies* that offer travel deals. It's not a travel agency itself. I've found great deals they've turned me onto, and the experience I had once I followed the link was the responsibility of the company offering the tour or travel deal. So far, they've been good - but if I have a bad experience, I won't be blaming it on Travelzoo. It's just like having a bad airbnb experience and blaming AirBNB. I might feel obligated to report a bad experience, host, or company - but I don't blame the company that doesn't have control over it.

Like many others, I do not know why you continue to include Jetline Holidays in your Top 20 Deals. We had a nightmare experience with this agency and are now trying to obtain reimbursement for a rental car we had to hire after Jetline canceled our reservation. We arrived in Rome, exhausted, to find that the rental car reservation that was part of our package had been canceled. Many phone calls to Jetline with various explanations: "We did not cancel reservation." "Oh yes, we did cancel reservation because you did not pay for the rental car." SAY WHAT? WE PAID FOR A PACKAGE DEAL AND HAD THE VOUCHER FOR THE RENTAL CAR.

Then they told us to rent another car and they would reimburse us. Fortunately we have this in writing. After much research, we were able to find a car and salvage our holiday. Now they are saying they are not responsible and are "looking into it" as a courtesy. I loved TravelZoo before and recommended it to many people. Now I have lost complete respect and will never use again.

We booked a trip with Travelzoo only to find out that we had really booked a trip with Jetline Vacations in the UK. We were supposed to go on a boat trip around the island on the 2nd day and were not given any notice that it was canceled until we got to the port. No refund was given, we were simply told it was canceled. Then I tested positive for Covid and couldn't fly home as planned. I called Roger/Jetline who we had been working with and was told that all of the arrangements were up to me to make, I was in a foreign country and didn't speak the language.

I called Travelzoo and they were no help either. It took many phone calls and hours on the phone to reschedule my flight. Luckily I was able to stay in my current room at the hotel. When it came time to fly home I was told that I had to pay for the shuttle/ferry/shuttle to the airport even though I had already paid for it because it had to be rescheduled. I think it is unacceptable and found that dealing with the booking companies was fine until you needed their help - then they tell you that you are on your own to make arrangements. We won't be using Travelzoo again and are telling everyone of our experience.

We had added two nights in Sorrento and just learned that our hotel there is a 4-hour walk to Sorrento. I call, set up a date for my honeymoon, pay, and receive my receipt and information in my email. I sent an email inquiring about rescheduling fees. 8 days before leaving, on my wedding day, I get a call from Jerry. He said my flight was moved by 24 hours (no paper trail). With the new dates, I couldn’t go, so I asked for a refund. After much bickering, I was only offered a credit. After getting back from my wedding and having time to look through the terms and conditions, clause #7 states that I am in the right for a refund.

After calling Jetline today, I was told that is impossible and that the terms and conditions on Travelzoo’s website “clearly” stated it was nonrefundable. The link I used to redirect me to Jetline’s website is no longer active and so there is no tracing the conditions that way. Travelzoo has nothing about refunds concerning this scenario. At the end of the day, I was provided terms and conditions from Jetline’s website and they will not honor the situation warranting a refund which is a fraudulent behavior. I was told to contact their admin team, but they have not responded to my emails.

We booked a trip offered by Travelzoo through Jetline Holidays for a seven-day trip to Paris and London for September 2021. After we paid $3950.00 for three people for this trip, Jetline Holidays told us the airline cancelled our flight due to covid-19, but that we shouldn't worried because, even though they don't refund the money, we had until December 31, 2021, to book another trip to be taken during 2022. When I called in the beginning of December to book our new trip, they wanted $3,000.00 more, arguing that the airplane fare had increased. After I told them that they were delusional if they thought I was going to pay a total of $7,000.00 for the trip, they started emailing me "offers". They went from asking an additional amount of $3,000.00, to $2000.00, then $1,850.00, $1,000.00. I said no.

Their "final offer", paying an additional $550.00 (which would've been $4,450.00 total) included only six nights, not seven as we had paid for, and no visit to London. The hotel they were giving us was in a bad neighborhood of Paris, and it looks more like a hostel than a hotel. I checked online and the airline tickets were $570.00 per person. The hotel is advertised online for $70.00 a night. Total cost $2,130.00. I had already paid $3,950.00, and they wanted me to pay $550.00 more! I didn't pay and they said I lost my money for not booking the new trip. By now, of course, my credit card company cannot reverse the charges because it has been too long. I trusted Travelzoo thinking that they only advertise reputable companies in their website. But now I know that I was wrong, and that mistake cost me $3,950.00.

Booked a trip to Russia through Travelzoo with one of their partners Exoticca. It was one of their top 20 deals of the week. Long story short, we were in Poland (from the US) about to travel to Russia on an Exoticca fully paid trip. Exoticca notified us less than 24 hours before leaving that the trip was cancelled. Refunded approximately 1/3 of what we paid. Spoke to Travelzoo and they were absolutely no help in recovering the rest and continue to highlight Exoticca on their website. Exoticca has done this or similar to many people and yet Travelzoo continues to highlight them. Very disappointing, I thought Travelzoo cared more about their brand.

But keep in mind, ALL of these were vacations where we paid TravelZoo DIRECTLY and were with REPUTABLE, WELL-KNOWN hotels or companies (like Affordable World Tours or CheapCarribean). I don't know why TravelZoo continues to allow scammers like JetLine and Exoticca to offer deals when TravelZoo KNOWS they are not reputable. If your booking is not directly with TravelZoo (where they collect the $$ from you) then be sure to Google the travel agent/company FIRST.

Beware: Travelzoo doesn't warn customers of risk of loss and won't offer a refund when its travel partner absconds with your advance payment. Travelzoo promoted a Thailand trip in one of its "Top 20" emails sent to subscribers in December 2019. The Travelzoo "deal expert" for the trip promoted it as one of the best deals they've seen, and the email included a link to the Travelzoo webpage, which had another link to the actual travel provider, Phoenix Holidays. Trusting Travelzoo's recommendation, I booked the trip for Feb 25, 2020 and paid $2,813.

Due to COVID the trip got postponed several times, and ultimately Phoenix Holidays stopped responding to my emails. A Travelzoo rep confirmed that the company was out of business, apologized, and asked me to send documentation from Phoenix Holidays for a possible refund. After I submitted the docs, Travelzoo responded that it had no responsibility for my loss because it was only an "advertiser."

Just because Travelzoo acts as an advertiser and front-end portal for its travel partners doesn’t absolve it of wrongdoing of its travel partner. It has the responsibility to vet and ensure that its travel partners are financially secure and not scammers. Otherwise, it needs to let its customers know that it takes no responsibility in the event of loss and that there is, indeed, a real risk of loss.

Travelzoo did not make this disclaimer or indicate this risk. Had it not promoted the Thailand trip in its Top 20 newsletter and provided the link to the travel partner on its website, I never would have booked the trip. Had it stated that there was a potential risk of loss of advance payment because it does not take responsibility for its travel partners and does not vet them or hold back funds or a reserve for losses, I never would have booked the trip and lost my money. Travelzoo now refuses to discuss restitution, EVEN FOR THE COMMISSION IT MADE from my payment. They simply provided a link to a Quebec gov't website to submit a claim (all in French) or contact the Travelzoo legal department.

In Mar 2021, I booked an Iceland trip package for Nov 2021 that was supposedly fully refundable which was why I chose it to begin with. However, I was incredibly displeased on how shady Jetline Holidays was and why TravelZoo chose to false advertise as such. 1. Upon booking, the agent never mentioned any refund policy other than what was stated on TravelZoo. It was only after I paid, that I was send a PDF which included terms and conditions that stated should anything go wrong that's uncontrollable, a full refund will be provided. 2. This refund policy was untrue as I tried to cancel the trip a few months ago due to Iceland's ever-changing COVID-19 rules. They want unvaccinated travelers to quarantine for 5 days which made no sense as my trip was only 7 days so it meant I would have to be in a hotel the entire time and I'd miss the tour I paid for in the package.

    3. I emailed Jetline Holidays to explain this and they told me they will not refund me because it was a "voluntary" cancellation. I contacted them and asked them what justifies voluntary and they never responded for months. 4. The price was much higher than what was advertised on TravelZoo. I had to paid $200+ more per person because Jetline Holidays claimed that the original flight had a 24-hour layover. Why was this not mentioned upfront considering that would've meant I'd miss the tour I paid for? They baited me to paying extra for a problem they failed to mention to me upfront.

    5. From August to October, I received no response on my refund request. I was getting extremely stressed and annoyed so I called my credit card company about getting my refund back. Jetline Holidays was unaware of this dispute so they kept calling me and emailing me about hotel changes. Apparently, the original hotel was cancelled and closed due to COVID-19 and this was info they gave me 2 weeks ago (and the trip is next month). Imagine what else could go wrong with this trip?! I've tried so hard to speak to Jetline Holidays kindly and I'm adamant about getting a full refund because but this is ridiculous! Expecting someone to pay $1700 to go to another country just to be in a hotel the entire time. Makes absolutely no sense. I'm so angry I fell for this and disappointed that TravelZoo allows this bait-and-switch to happen. I would never book with any TravelZoo agencies or affiliates ever again!

The car rental company is a fishy local 3rd party provider called Mex Rent a car. When we got there, they said they canceled our reservation and referred us to Jetline Vacations for a refund. Jetline Vacations pretends working something out for us but does not respond anymore. They also said the local car rental company Mex Rent a car needs to confirm the refund. We talked to locals in Costa Rica and heard that this company only has 40 cars, rents them to more people than cars available, constantly cancels on customers and never refunds the price.

We also believe that Jetline Vacations knows about it and willingly does business with this fraudulent car rental company to be able to offer those eye-catching travel packages. We ended up having to pay for a car out of pocket for the entire trip and we were not refunded for the car that was part of our package. That should have never happened. Do not book with Jetline Vacations and definitely never rent a car through Mex Rent a car if you do not want to be scammed!!!!

After multiple calls to Benjamin - who was readily accessible when trying to extract our $1600 - but now, he fails to respond. After 5 contacts, my husband finally got him on the phone. I purchased a hotel package in December 2020 for my wife and I to go to Jamaica in June 2021. The travel voucher states that it's 100% refundable. I recently found out that I would have to cancel the trip due to family issues. I called Travelzoo and they tell me to call the resort and cancel and then call them back with cancellation number from resort. I called the resort Sandy Haven and spoke with Rowen. I explained everything to him and he told me that Travelzoo was wrong, that they needed to contact the resort and cancel my reservation and then the resort would cancel them.

I immediately call Travelzoo back and speak with a young lady named Elaine. She claims that the resort is wrong and that she will call them and help me out. She puts me on hold for like 10 minutes and says she couldn't reach them and that she was going to escalate my issue to the next level and get and have another department handle it. After not hearing anything for several days I call Travelzoo back and speak to Regina and she tells me they are still working on. In the meantime I send a email to the resort and get a response telling me the same thing again in writing now that I had been told over the phone.

I call back to Travelzoo 3 days later and speak to another young lady and she again puts me on hold for a long period of time and comes back and says she can't reach the resort so while on the phone with her I call the resort on my cell phone and wow they answered in 2 rings. I asked the girl why can I reach them and she can't and she just ignored my question and again goes in this long drawn out and rehearsed, "I'm sorry for your inconvenience but we will push this upstairs to get this taken care of", that I need to be patient. It can take several days. Well it's been 7 for a total 15 days and I still don't have my refund. If they can take my money in 30 seconds and they offer a 100% guaranteed refund then they damn well should be able to give back my money in 15 days.

Why they would list tickets that expire in two days and not put such disclosure in bold print, or in red font, is puzzling. Immediately, we recognized the mistake and called the customer service department and were quite rudely and abruptly advised that the applicable “terms and conditions” say no refunds so there was nothing TravelZoo can do.

Selling “season tickets” on its website which expire in 48 HOURS is not in good faith; Stacking the options on top of each other without any particular conspicuous text indicating or calling out the expiration date is unfair; The mistake like we made must occur quite often given TravelZoo’s placement of the options with valid dates in smaller text than the title above which indicates “2019 ADMISSION… GOOD ANY DAY”; Such mistakes are the result of TravelZoo’s placement of these boxes and allows TravelZoo to be unjustly benefitted at the expense of consumers like us; and There are not enforceable “NO REFUND” terms and conditions applicable as indicated on the screens below… This is not an enforceable “clickwrap contract” --- rather it is an unenforceable provision that requires the consumer to click on the “READ MORE” hyperlink (such provisions were deemed to be unenforceable in the Overstock v. I have traveled a lot with budget travel agencies from Travelzoo. Fleetway is the worst. Italy was great but Fleetway was not. Not a customer oriented company. They sold me a package from Newark to Rome and back. I made my own connections to get to Newark. Contacted me three weeks before the trip and told me the return trip had changed and was now a day later. Wanted me to stay a day longer AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I insisted they find me a flight that same day to avoid paying for rescheduling my connection. After I insisted, they did but it came into JFK instead of Newark and I had to pay $35 for a shuttle to get to Newark. PLUS an additional $35 to check my bag because the flight home was with two airlines and I had to retrieve my luggage in Amsterdam and go out of security, check in again at another airline and pay again for checked bags.

The airline (Norwegian) was a budget airline which I understand. I have flown them before. But they neglected to tell me that if I paid for my checked bag 48 hrs before the flight, I would only pay a fraction of the $110 I ended up paying at the counter on check in. When people get budget airlines, a customer oriented company will MAKE SURE they highlight these important details to their customers to avoid this kind of review. They didn't seem interested in helping their customers save money when they could. When I called them while in Italy, to obtain the record number to check in the rep just kept saying "I realize that" until finally said "I don't think you realize that". They gave VERY poor customer service. I WON'T BE USING THEM AGAIN.

Our "guide" on the Travelzoo tour in Montenegro to National parks: Lovcen and Skadar Lake was HORRIBLE. He did not introduce himself, gave NO info during the tour on any sites, got lost twice, used his cell phone while driving, at each stop we had to ask him how long we were to be at this stop. We never even saw Skadar lake. (We did see the river.)

Don't waste your time trying to find and actually book travel deals through this company. For over a decade I've received and read the multiple offers sent to my email every week by Travelzoo. I have found travel deals and packages that looked enticing. In the past, we purchased event tickets, packages, and even booked a cruise using Travelzoo. The last two offers I tried to book ended up being bogus. My most recent bad experience happened this week. Travelzoo's "Top 20 List" included a 5 night package to Paris from several US cities. The package included r/t air and hotel for $599 per person. I followed the booking directions provided by Travelzoo, which connected me with the vendor, Fleetway Travel. I went through all the steps, answering all the questions, selecting the available dates, airports, upgrades, and options. I completed the required documentation and registration.

At the conclusion of this process, Fleetway's online booking told me my travel reservation had been submitted and that someone would contact me the next day for payment processing. Three days passed and I had not been contacted. I tried to call Fleetway Travel and couldn't get through (number I had went to The UK). I contacted Travelzoo customer service and they told me they would look into my reservation. The next day Travelzoo Customer Rep., Lisa called me and said Fleetway had my reservation and would be calling me shortly. Later that day, I finally got a call from Fleetway Travel. They denied having a record of my reservation and the Fleetway Rep. told me they have not been able to process or even read the reservations submitted via their website due to the heavy volume of calls they had been receiving.

The Fleetway Rep would not honor my reservation, look for my reservation, or even acknowledge that they had received a submission from me. I told the Fleetway Rep. my exact submission dates and that I had followed the directions provided by their and Travelzoo's websites, and that I was supposed to receive a call to process payment. She said "we can't be chasing people down who booked vacations online" and "I have booked over 20 vacations for customers who called in today alone, I don't have time to check online reservation requests". The advertised travel deal I signed up for 5 days earlier via Fleetway Travels own website was not available, if it ever really existed.

I immediately called Travelzoo Customer Service to inquire why they told me Fleetway had my reservation, to ask why online bookings weren't being honored, and finally ask why Travelzoo would partner with a vendor of this poor of caliber. Doesn't Travelzoo check out the businesses it promotes? Travelzoo Customer Rep. apologized for my experience, said they would note my complaint for future reference when working with Fleetway Travel, but that Travelzoo couldn't make Fleetway Travel honor the promoted travel deal.

The other bad experience with Travelzoo occurred last month when I tried to book a hotel room package. The Guy Harvey Outrigger Motel in St. Petersburg, FL offered a special rate for a 3 night stay over Labor Day. When I called them (Guy Harvey Reservations) and mentioned the Travelzoo Package, the price with hidden charges and required extras went up nearly $500. Based on these two back-to-back bad experiences, I can no longer use Travelzoo and would highly recommend others save themselves the time and trouble of using this online service.

The Travelzoo listed a small group 7 day safari to Kenya. When I tried to book, the site sent me to the Essential Safari trip and speaking with a tour operator he and later 2 said the $1599. Price was for a 30-40 person group. In fact there was nothing in Travelzoo in its first listing that said it was a normal sized group tour. In looking at the Gate 1 site I saw a small group trip listed for about $3900 including flights. So what is going on? Bait and switch. Call to Travelzoo failed to have an explanation, only that they would "look into it." Travelzoo and Gate One Travel should both be criticized for allowing this misinformation to continue when it is a bait and switch listing in this week's Top 20 tour listings by Travelzoo.

All the reviews that are posted are about how easy the site is to find out information on trips and deals. There is only one actual review on a trip that was booked through this site. Can anyone other than the couple that gave the ONLY review about a trip that was booked through this site. Seems to be something that is not living up to the standards of giving the consumer what they are actually advertising and they do not refund or return call.

We (myself and Owen **) booked a hotel in the UK city of Bath over a busy Easter weekend using TravelZoo. When we arrived the hotel did not have our reservation, fee or any rooms available. The owner said he didn't list with Travelzoo and tried repeatedly to call them and clear the matter up. Each tone they said that would call back, but they did not. We have not had any further communication from them or a refund. In the end the hotel owner gave us his manager's room free of charge. Do not use this company. They do not accept responsibility for their mistakes.

I made an account in Travelzoo and it was very easy and simple process. Easy to search and find what you are looking for. Whether it is a flight, a rental car, or a hotel. Many options to choose from with a lot of images and information. But there are too many popups or pages that open when you click on a search. Can be frustrating when you are doing searches and they send you to all these pages.

They have categories like family friendly, romantic, beach, etc. These make planning your next trip quite simple. The site is great. It has a lot to offer and everything is really easy to use. I searched for a hotel in the area I would be staying. I created an account and answered all of the questions they asked as far as occupancy and the days that we would be there. I looked at amenities and check in/out information and then went through the check out process. But I didn't see a section for last minute deals or getaways and I think that might be a cool feature to have. I know that there are other sites that do it.

When I am booking multiple things I will access it. If I am only booking one thing, something small, I sometimes check out as guest. I appreciate the map view, it helps while planning. I do like that this site combines travel with deals, so I know what I can do when I get to a location. With a discount. Awesome! However, I am not a fan of the current layout. The giant pictures make it seem like I have to scroll forever to find/read everything.

I like that the website is grouped by types of excursions and that there are packaged deals, both new and ongoing. Even more convenient is being able to book not only flight and hotels, but also tours. Also, maybe add a guarantee that if deals subsequently post at a lower rate, then the difference between amount paid will be refunded, and perhaps include facts/figures that prove the "deals" really have the lowest rate. Booking was also relatively easy and an account was made as that seems to be the norm these days. Customer service contact number was provided too... although not yet needed, thankfully.

This website was relatively simple if you are familiar with travel sites. I like having one place to search for travel deals (especially when it includes air and hotel). I like it to be easy to navigate and for it to find multiple options for me to choose from. I would like to put multiple scenarios in for searching, though, so that I can base my travel on the best deal all at once. It's easier if I can compare options (dates or location) without having to start a new search. As I am becoming more familiar with VRBO's I'd like my travel search to also include VRBO's as an option. Also, I do not make an account if I don't absolutely have to. I hate having my email bogged down by creating yet another account. I would do an SSO option to my Google if it was available.

The website is nicely laid out and easy to navigate and flows nicely. I did not make an account, but I like the different categories for all of the different kind of trips. You have choices from a quick weekend or holiday getaway or the ultimate vacation. But there is actually one feature that I think would be great. It needs a road trip "scenic route" category. It would be cool if you could put in your location and how long you want your road trip and if you want to take the scenic route or not and have accurate routes available.
