I would not recommend anyone to do any business with Thrifty. Their employees are thefts. You tell them you do not want any of their insurance plans and they straight up tell you they are not applying any and they do. I was charged $221.00 by an employee who took it upon himself to apply the charge with a signature on file. A signature that I gave because I thought I had to take the car off their lot. When I called customer service which is only open from 8-5pm and 1 customer service employee who answers the phone told me she understood what happened but could not help me. I could not believe it. I called twice and got the same information a second time. The first time I called customer service she referred me to my credit card company to dispute the charges.

Really as big as this car rental company is they treat their customers like crap on the bottom of their shoe. I had another rental set up for a couple of months later and I quickly canceled it. Do not fall for a lower cost initially in the agreement because they will do what they have to get much more and you may never get the justice of returned funds after they apply whatever charges they chose with signature on file. If you do make the mistake of renting from them when you get the paperwork look at it carefully, know what they are charging you for. Do not take anything for granted with this company. They are unlawful with their practices. You will lose a lot renting from them.

We had not been on vacation of any kind in two years. Arriving at Miami airport, we proceeded to Thrifty Car Rental location. We had reserved our car with Expedia. Great trip so far. The woman working the counter could not have been less helpful or less personable. Miami is moving to "pay by plate" easy pass system, and is removing cash tolls on some of the major roads. We were offered an upgrade to include a "pay by plate" pass. $10/day. We were driving to Deerfield beach 45 minutes north. If I am driving out of the city, do I really need to pay $100 to park the car at resort? The woman at the counter shrugged an unfriendly "I can't help you with that." "You will have to stay on all local roads, or be billed back $80 for every violation"

We asked for a map and perhaps an explanation of specific toll roads. She gave us a map that needed greater explanation. THE MAP WAS IN PORTUGUESE! If this is company policy to get add on sales, they are criminal. If this is the employee's style and personality, she should be fired immediately! Of ten day Miami stay, this was the only negative experience. And we were there for Hurricane Mathew. Situation will require I return to Miami 4 or 5 times a year for the foreseeable future. I will never consider Thrifty at any time. I'd rather walk.

This place is fraudulent 100%! First I prepaid for gas on Expedia only to go pick up my rental and have them say they have no record of my insurance and the attendant would not look at my voucher or reservation so I have to pay almost double for my insurance which originally costed $70. (Expedia returned the money I paid to them.) While I was there I made sure I paid all the toll fees plus my dad lives there and was riding with me. I get a bill 5 months later saying I owe around 80 bucks in tolls...2 of the damn tolls are for.5 cents!

I know they are lying because the time slots they have on the bill are too close together. My dad says there were no.5 cent tolls where we were in Orlando. I tried to call Thrifty rental and they keep transferring me to freakin US bank to pay them and I can't dispute the charges or ask for proof... a person needs to view their license plate number and pictures to see if this was my mistake or theirs which I'm sure it's theirs!!! I called SunPass and they said they can't help me because there are too many people who use the vehicle... SMH never again and I cancelled my credit card because they were just going to charge it if I didn't pay 10/16! They won't ever be getting a dime out of me fraudulent **.

My husband and I flew out to Las Vegas, NV on Oct 1, 2016 till Oct 6, 2016. We rented an suv through Thrifty Car Rental at McCarran airport. We turned our suv in a day earlier than our return rental date because we decided to return home earlier. When we returned the suv we were told that we would not be credited for the one day not used and that we would be charged an extra fee for returning the suv early. We had visited several of the national parks and the suv had mud on it - we were also told that there would be an additional charge of $125.00 to have the suv detailed. This is such a ripoff after paying close to $1000.00 for rental and insurance. We were very dissatisfied with the way we were treated and the employees acted like this is just business as usual. The employees didn't care about customer satisfaction, really weren't concerned in making any adjustments and didn't care if we used Thrifty in the future or not.

When I went to rent a car on 9/24 in the AM, everything went smoothly. However, I was not pleased with when I went to sign the agreement that the agent asked me if I wanted to pay in advance for tolls. I told her that I would not be driving around much during my stay. She told me that it would be to my advantage as there were tolls about every 15 miles in and around Orlando. That concerned me as I felt that I could rake up lots of money in tolls, so I did as she suggested at paid over $50 for the toll pass.

I spent one week in and around Orlando. I went from the airport and through the week to Gardens Park Boulevard, Orlando, John Young Pkwy Orlando, FL, W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, Disney Springs, all around Champions Gate for shopping and dining, Magic Kingdom, Clearwater Beach, Back to Disney Springs, Universal Studios, and back to the airport. Only once (on my return to the airport) was I charged a toll. We basically just give Thrifty our money. I would advise your agents to not tell customers that there are tolls every 15 miles where there clearly are not all over Orlando.

It might be to your advantage to have a map that shows the tolls so your customers can figure out if this would be to their advantage---not to the advantage of your company. I have rented cars before, and even in southern Florida, and have never had an agent tell me that I would be paying tolls every 15 miles. Please review this policy with your agents as It is a scare tactic that preys on your customers unknowing the roads and toll system around Orlando. I am very dissatisfied with this and wanted to make you aware of it.

I booked rental with Thrifty and arrived at the airport to check in on September 29 2016, about 11:00 am the customer service rep (using the word customer service lightly) the woman's name is NANCY. She was absolutely the rudest woman I ever came across with car rental Co. I stood in line waiting. It was brief because no lines. This Nancy was at the In with Dollar rental and Thrifty was exit to it. I heard "next" so I began to walk toward Thrifty and Thrifty rep says "she can help you". This Nancy actually rolled her eyes at the Thrifty rep toward me. I seen her. It was downhill from there. She is NOT an asset to Dollar rental or Thrifty. She was nasty, poor eye contact, rude, and kept trying to make me pay more for what I originally booked.

I was pissed when I walked away and I will NEVER book again through Dollar OR Thrifty. She kept trying to tell me my rental was a 2 door and I had my confirmation receipt telling me different and she wanted to get nasty with her point. Her point was she wanted me to upgrade in which I continues to tell her "no thank you". She was absolutely vile and unprofessional and I hope she is told about this review. I only scored 1 star but it should have been 0 star. Just a horrible experience.

She just ask for my last name on the reservations. She then quote the 239.98 price on the reservation and ask me for my credit card (before pass the card to her I ask her if she was charging me the amount she had said), agent then said "again we need your card to put on file".

She then told me that my total is 434.69. I ask her how come, she said that the hold reservation which is 239.98 + 79 +115.71 for the insurance. I told her I decline. She then advise me that it's mandatory to take out for a package. So I said "I will do the LDW". I ask again about the voucher being horned. She just brush it off!!! On the 10th Aug I return the car. Thrifty charge me 434.69 instead of 194.71 which was for the insurance 115.71 and 79.00 for fees!!! THRIFTY CUSTOMER CARE SERVICES IS VERY POOR. I rented car over Expedia and returned it. Forgot keys in the car, called Thrifty.com while still on the airport and could return back to rental place and was told "just mail it overnight, not a problem". Then seen few days later I was charged $200 for keys. This is where one of the worst customer experiences I had happened: Called again, now I was said "we charge for keys, this is number for location if you want to discuss further". That number doesn't even have voicemail! Gets better - I call again, this time customer service representative says "I can open a case". I ask "can I talk with someone who has authority to issue refund" and this is where really unacceptable behavior began. I was told "you can talk with me. If you don't like it you can travel to Raleigh, NC and talk with manager"! At that point I requested supervisor.

Agent refused to connect me with supervisor saying "no supervisor available". I requested callback. Agent refused again. Then tried to finish conversation. I said I would wait on the line until supervisor joins a call. Was told "you will wait for hours" and I said "OK, will wait". Then agent hanged up. Called again, was connected to the same agent. Asked again for supervisor and made it clear that I would call as many times needed to reach agent that can connect me with supervisor. Got hanged up again. So here is how this works - left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing, but when they charge you money for that then they will hang on it. You would be insulted - I would leave to reader to decide what "don't like it, go to Raleigh, NC" means.

Just in case that we get response on this mail "we are sorry, calls us we are glad to help" - that is what you see in public forum, this is what happened in private forum. Ask yourself are there any indications I was actually helped (e.g. Did anyone posted follow-up showing that something concrete was done to help me) Based on experience I had, I should be doing business with Thrifty only if:

    1. I would accept that I would not be able to reach location by the phone but only central.
    2. Central would not know how to provide info that affect customer charges.
    3. When I am called, I should be ready to hear "if you need someone who can help, go to Raleigh, NC".
    4. When you are told to "go to..." you can't talk with supervisor.

    5. If you are ready to accept all of the previous, you can save $10 or so on rental. Unacceptable.

Also, we paid an extra fee for a second driver; that wasn't refunded. Finally, the customer rep, when I called the company, informed me that there's a $25 fee charged for bringing the vehicle back early! When I questioned this, she became irate, unprofessional and her voice went up! Why wasn't this mentioned?? It benefits them to get the car back and get it ready, and they penalize the customer!

Prebooked a car rental via Thrifty's website for our trip to Spain. When I picked up the car in Seville I was encouraged to take added insurance. I explained that I already had all the insurance I needed and didn't want any extra. The agent printed the contract and asked me to sign. I asked if she had removed all insurance and she said yes. Since the contract was in Spanish, I asked about the various line items on the contract and she explained that here was a charge for drop off at a different location (agreed to by me) and the cost for gas if I didn't return it with a full tank. I asked about one other line item and was told it was the pro-rated rate for the car, since I only needed it for 5 days instead of the full week.

A few days later I had a nagging suspicion and so I did a Google translate of that last line item, and learned that it was "personal insurance". I have emailed Thrifty to complain but I expect I won't hear from them. I will also refuse to pay it when I return the car, but again, I expect it will be in vain since they have my CC number. If that fails I will file a complaint with my CC company.

She simply asked me to sign my paper and gave me the keys. I assumed I was just signing what I had already purchased. I later found a $105 charge on my visa. Apparently the paper she made me sign was for extra insurance and premium location fees. She never offered me insurance as I would have declined it. I feel ripped off, even if only $105. I rented a car from the Thrifty website and prepaid in advance. I pre-paid $170 for 8 days use of an intermediate size car. We took the Detroit Metro airport shuttle to the Thrifty pick-up location where we stood in line behind 15 other people. The counter was shared with Dollar Car Rental and there were only 4 attendants, 2 were very slow. After waiting about 30 mins. we finally got waited on. We decided to upgrade to a full size car - she first quoted us a high per-day upcharge. When we expressed that was too high, she was able to lower it and we said OK. The receipt I got showed a total of $228 - and at the time I couldn't tell if that included my prepaid amount of $170. I found out later it did not - so we ended up paying a total of $400.

The second issue at the pick-up location was getting out the exit where there were about 10 cars in front of us and a very slow check-out attendant who printed out your receipt. Additional wait time increased because cars in front of us, continued to let 4 cars in, pushing us back even further. It was a very frustrating experience. When I went online to check the charges to our Credit Card - the "Business" listed on the statement was "CarTrawler" not Thrifty. It had an address of Ireland listed in the details (we flew in from Orlando, FL and have never been to Ireland). I called AMEX to dispute the charge, even though it matched my pre-paid amount. Turns out CarTrawler is a legitimate subsidiary of Thrifty. We will not rent from Thrifty again.

I had a trip to Denver, CO for 7 days from Aug. 17-23, 2016. The "online booking" total for renting a car with Thrifty was $352.44, with $254.14 being charged upfront & $98.30 payable at the counter. After the trip, I was charged, instead of the balance of $98.30, an additional payment of $426.83. This, together with the prepaid $254.14, I had a total of $680.97 for renting a Mazda 3, which was the cheapest available. Here's what the additional charge was about: 1. besides my own auto insurance, Additional Insurance for dents & scratches only - $28.49/day ($170.94); 2. Toll Charges - $12.49/day ($62.99); 3. Fuel Purchase - $39.71; 4. Concession Fee Recovery - $58.80; 5. Other Fees & Taxes - $105.99.

Here's why I wrote this review: I'd like to share my experience & gripes with fellow consumers so that they won't fall into the same pitfall that I've been through. The purchase of additional insurance was voluntary. However, from hind-sight, it was absolutely unnecessary. What do they mean by "dents & scratches only"? What if there was something more serious happened? That means you are still on the hook! I can't blame anyone for coerce or undue influence but my own stupidity in this regard. What pissed me off most is the sale of Toll Charges.

I'm new to the City. Little did I know that the tolling was but a recent introduction. From my cruising all over the city during my stay, few & far between of the inner districts charged just $0.50 for the luxury of using the leftest most designated lane (you don't need to use it unless you're in rush hours & in a hurry, perhaps). The most expensive toll I've come across was just $4.00, using the I70 for certain distances to & from certain scenic destinations. Again, you can always get by with the non-toll lanes. I bet even if I had to use toll lanes at all times everywhere, I would have extreme difficulty using up all the $12.49 per day quota, least to say 7 days. What a rip-off!!!

True, nothing illegal on Thrifty's sale, but very unethical, in my opinion, for taking advantage of the ignorant people. Fueling up your tank upon return is a universal requirement. However, if you do this yourself, Thrifty emphasized that the gas station must be within 10 miles of their return location & you must submit a receipt for proof. They also claimed that their charge of Fuel Purchase was the cheapest - $4/gallon. I later found out that the then pump price was around $1.98 to $2.30. Perhaps, difficult to qualify this sale as coerce, but close enough! I have no idea what Concession Fee Recovery ($58.80) was. I bet it must be written & buried in some tiny fine prints. I also bet nobody, except perhaps, the attorneys & archaeologists would dig deep into the fine prints to find out what this charge is about.

All in all, the additional charge of $426.83, which is more than double that of the online agreement at $352.44, is beyond apprehension & hard to swallow. This is my very first review on anything ever. I wish other people would be more knowledgeable & can make better & wiser decisions to protect themselves from an ocean of sharks. We do need to pay our fair shares but I don't think we should help creating billionaires trillionaires.

I was quoted 786$ for a car rental by an agent over the phone and booked the rate. I was charged over $1,6400. I was treated poorly upon picking up the car when I presented cash deposit and official orders, in accordance to their website, and they would not honor the rate insisting it was under a different category. They asked probing questions and made assumptions and told me all the other counters at the airport would charge the same. This was after I deplaned from 23 hours of international travel and they wanted to argue.

To top it off, when I complained to Thrifty they asked me to send them my documentation and never responded! I want the rate I was promised (no additional driver fee or insurance charges) when I booked the vehicle from overseas. It's why I booked Thrifty, for their supposed great rates. My rental agreement was **. Again, the worst part is they refuse to respond to me. I was in touch with someone via Twitter, they asked me for documentation, then never responded.

After pre-paying for a car rental that was put under the wrong name, the only available resolution was to add me as a driver. The prepaid cost including "all taxes and fees" was ~$190. The fee for adding a driver $13 per day. For the week that was $91. Plus taxes that was $136. However! As we added the driver at the airport, they then added a $54. Airport service fee. Original Total $190. With additional driver $380. Extortion. We decided not to pay.

I took pictures (because it looked clean to me) and filed a complaint. They simply declined any refund because they said the facility told me about the fee. They had no interest in hearing the details. I felt totally dissed and ripped off.

My family and I are very disappointed with Thrifty and its service. The experience we had in Guatemala felt as if their staff was looking for any opportunity to make us pay as much as possible. First one was the insurance we bought through Travelocity for the car was pointless as at the time we arrived to Guatemala we were told that we had to get a mandatory insurance through Thrifty that would cost almost 3 times more than we had originally paid, increasing the price of the rental by at least $200. Travelocity did an awesome job of refunding the original amount we paid to them.

The second flaw we saw, was in the unclear paperwork with the deposit left while the car was out for rent. We left a sum of Q10000 when we took the car, and when we returned it, their receipt was saying that we would get Q7276.80. This made it seem as if the amount we were getting in return was less than originally left. Even though the paperwork was unclear, this part ended up working out (Or at least we hope so).

Third one was when it came time to make final payment. The amount set by Travelocity was one in dollars and when the final receipt was given to us, it was changed to Quetzales, and when we did the conversion of Quetzales into dollars, the amount increased by ~$60. They mentioned that the only way we would pay the amount established by Travelocity originally was if we paid in cash. We went ahead and pulled out the cash and paid it. I could imagine if we didn't have that money at hand.

Fourth and last thing. Before we left we checked the car for scratches and I noted every single scratch in the car. When we came back, at first the guy that checked the car, started saying that the car had new scratches but I reminded him that we went through every part of the car and I showed him every single spot that was damaged before we left, and he backed off of that argument. My personal experience- I wouldn't rent from Thrifty, especially outside of the US.

I was sold a false product by Thrifty Dollar's Blue Chip representative in person at the LAX Thrifty location. I was then double charged for this false product which froze my bank account, prohibiting me from using my funds. I was told I had a car to drive from LAX to Rapid City SD for 6 days for a total of $1051, then it was changed to $1062. I was told to drop the car off at Rapid City Airport. When I arrived at Rapid City to drop the car off 2 hours early, a Hertz representative told me I needed to drop it off on the other side of the state, another 6 hour drive. Hertz-Thrifty-Dollar's Central Office in Philippines kept hanging up on me and was told it was my fault for not catching Thrifty's mistake.

Thrifty's Roadside Assistance tried to help me but even with them on conference calls was unable to get a return call from the LAX office or from the Main Customer Service line. Roadside helped me arrange a tow of the car to a Nebraska location but that office failed to check in the car and refused to cooperate with even their own Roadside reps. I am currently being double charged, two charges of over $1200 each by Thrifty dollar for a total of over $2400. I originally booked the car on Hotwire for $250. I agreed to the $800 Thrifty car relocation fee. But they sold me a false product, they said I could drop off in Rapid City. It was their mistake, their main offices will not call back or cooperate. This is fraud and extortion.

Most disappointing experience at all time with this car rental company!!! After getting off the plane, we decided to go and have some food before picking up the car, and guess what? We were told we are too late to pick it up and so our car is sold out to someone else! And now we can either wait for half a day for someone to may or may not return our type of car, or we must pay more to rent a more expensive car! Are you ** kidding me??? So this company does not only make profits by renting the car we have already paid for to someone else, but also makes profits by making us to pay 100 EURO extra to rent an unnecessarily more expensive car!! How smart is that! SO if you CAN NOT guarantee that your flight will be ON TIME, or you won't have any situation to delay your pick up, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Booked car rental as part of Hotwire vacation package. Got to Thrifty pick up at airport and the woman gave me my total (after she tried to upsell me on everything as they do) and I replied that my reservation was paid for through Hotwire. She glanced at her computer and said "No, the reservation has not been paid for." Instead of arguing with her I wanted to get out of there and decided I would call Hotwire and straighten it out later. I trusted what the Thrifty car rental rep was telling me was true. THIS IS WHERE I FAILED.

Fast forward to a few weeks later, I called Hotwire and explained the situation. I was rather impressed with their customer service. The Hotwire customer sales rep called Thrifty on my behalf (twice!) to resolve the circumstance. Finally, she came back on the phone and informed me that Thrifty would not refund the amount because I agreed to pay $85 in "coverage" and because they had my signature showing this then Hotwire could not do anything. Whoa, whoa, whoa... Hold the phone. I thanked the kind, patient Hotwire customer service rep and called Thrifty myself.

As expected, they explained to me how I elected to purchase "coverage" (which by the way they explained was different than insurance as if this were to point out my mistake) and went on to lecture me about how it was my fault and I need to be more careful about what I'm signing and how the coverage would have protected me in the event of an accident... Blah, blah, blah. I explained how I was never offered coverage and was too trusting of the Thrifty rep and felt misled and scammed. They lectured me again and finally offered to refund me 50% of the coverage while continuing to lecture me about how I need to better understand what I'm paying for. I was ready to be done with it, accepted the refund, and agreed that I do indeed need to be less trusting and more skeptical of Thrifty Car Rental reps. End rant.

My wife rented a car online through Thrifty Rent A Car. Since their 3rd party billing company, CarTrawler, is based outside the US our credit card company declined the charge. We received an email from Thrifty saying we had 24 hours to make a payment or our reservation would be cancelled. Our reservation was cancelled in less than 5 hours. I called Thrifty a couple hours later to reinstate the reservation and they said I needed to call another number but I was not told I would be calling a different company. After going back and forth with CarTrawler, I got my reservation reinstated. However, they did not say the reservation would be held by a different company. I also verified that it would be for the same amount and the same economy class car.

When my wife arrived at LAX she went to Thrifty and was told she had no reservation. After some research they told her that her reservation was at AVR (Airport Van Rental). So they made her walk almost a mile with her luggage in 95 degree weather to AVR. When she arrived at AVR we found out that the rental was for a cargo van. My wife couldn't drive a cargo van and the only option was for a minivan. So instead of our $65 economy class car rental we ended up with a $152 minivan rental. This was after 2 hours and she had no choice but to take this rental because we had a family emergency which was the reason for the trip. I called Thrifty asking for a refund for the difference of what we actually paid for what we were supposed to have paid for our car and they just tell me that they cannot do anything and that I have to deal with the 3rd party billing company, CarTrawler.

CarTrawler is a scam, the people barely speak English. I asked for a supervisor on multiple occasions and every time I was told they were not available. I was told a claim would be made and that I would receive an answer within 48 hours and I have never heard back. Thrifty and CarTrawler combined make up the worst rental car experience ever. It's not worth the money you think you will be saving to rent from Thrifty because they will screw you over just as they did to us. Stay away from Thrifty Rent A Car!

I prepaid for car hire with my Ryanair flight many weeks prior to arriving at the airport. There was a long queue of people at the desk and an argument had broken out at the front of the queue which upon investigation was over the last car! This did not bode well. There were several Hertz/Thrifty staff around so I pulled one to the side and asked him if there were any cars and he said 'NO'. He also told me and a group of other renters that there were no cars available, but we could rent a similar vehicle from one of the other companies in the car hire hall and Hertz/Thrifty would refund the money when presented with the receipt upon return of the car. I did not feel confident about this so asked him twice more to clarify, but he assured me that we would get refunded. He took away my paperwork, stamped it with a Hertz stamp, signed it and wrote 'no cars'.

I then headed to Europcar desk and hired the last remaining similar car for euro 588 which was approx 338 more than my original car hire. When I returned the car a week later and presented my receipt, I was met with blank faces at the Hertz/Thrifty desk! The guy that had signed my paperwork was not there and the staff knew nothing of no cars being available or the promise to refund the money.

After a bit of shouting, I got a manager on the phone whom refused to refund, but said if I contacted customer services, I would get my original car hire fee refunded which was euro 250. Needless to say I have not even had an acknowledgement for the email I have sent to them. I am now trying through Ryanair to get this matter resolved. What I would advise anyone out there is to avoid Hertz and Thrifty not just in Italy, but worldwide.

After 3 or 4 days I decided to extend the rental period so I called the number provided and told them I wanted an additional 4 days. I asked what the rate would be and they told me it would remain the original rate of $9.00/ day. I extended the time a few days later by phone and again I was told I would be given the rate that I currently had.

I returned the car after about 15 days and received their bill the next month. The bill had increased my rate to $16/ day. When I called to complain, I was told that the contract says that the rate quoted may not be the final rate. This was a bait and switch scam. After many other efforts, the company lowered my rate but then made up the difference by adding $145 to the bill under another category. Don't trust the car rental places. We tried to change tire but we could not remove tire from underneath trunk. We called Roadside Assistance who had same problem. They had to tow our car with 6 family members to their garage where it took them over one hour to change tire. They also said there could be more damage than tire to car and recommended not to drive very far. Also said the take car to a garage.

We called Thrifty who insisted we drive 90 minutes back to Palermo on the spare tire to replace the car. We explained what the roadside assistance person told us about damage to car. After much debate, we were told to take car to local garage and have a new tire put on. We were told we would be 100% reimbursed for the tire. The person at the garage said that all tires were all over flatted and very dangerous to drive. The hot weather had caused the flat tire. The new tire costs $180 Euros.

When we returned the vehicle to the car rental place in Palermo, it was early in the morning. We were told to put key and invoice for the tire in the key return box and we would be reimbursed for the new tire. When I returned back home, I checked my credit card statement and not only did we not get reimbursed for the tire, we also got charged $150 Euros for tow truck charges. The phone staff are extremely unprofessional. This is going to sound extremely racist but just read it for what it is that there are a bunch of Filipinos that barely speak English answering the phones and giving the wrong information out as when I get to the front counter I'm confronted by more Filipinos who barely speak English and tell me completely opposite of what I was told on the phone. When I scheduled the car to be picked up the man on the phone said the deposit was only going to be the amount of my rental which was $99.50 so I deposited $99.50 extra to allow for the deposit on my card. When I got to the rental car Merlyn told me that my deposit was going to be $300. To quote her when asked why, she said "I don't know it's because you use the MasterCard and not a Visa." This almost caused my travels to be cancelled. What if I didn't have the $300 for a deposit?

Her misinformation and the people on the phones misinformation would have caused my trip to be cancelled instead it was severely delayed by hours. She didn't offer an apology. She didn't even act like she cared. She actually snickered and smiled and laughed with her co employee as I walked out of the store to go get money for the deposit. That is extremely unprofessional and she should not be behind that counter if she has that kind of attitude. Upon my return to pick up the car with my full deposit, I informed her that my trip might run short and that I might need to bring the car back early and I asked her if there were any charges associated with that.

She deliberately deceived me as she hesitated to answer my question and, choosing her words carefully, said "well you don't get charged for any time over the amount that you have the car" and I asked her again specifically if I bring the car back early am I going to be charged for anything I don't use. She said "no ma'am you will not be charged for ANYTHING." She deliberately lied to me as I asked this question, highly unethical and as a business owner would be punishable by immediate termination. She is not doing your company any favors. When I came to drop off the car I came 2 days early. One day the rental was $9 a day. I came 2 days early to drop off the car because my trip was cut short by 2 days.

Before I dropped off the car I called customer service due to the fact that we had conflicting information at the beginning of this transaction. A gentleman named Mickey from customer service told me that I would not be charged any extra for taking the car in early. I asked him twice "am I going to get any extra charges?" He said "no ma'am you will not be charged for any time that you did not have a car." So $9 for 2 days is $18 when I took the car and I was charged $88 for the complete rental. It was $25 extra for taking the car in early. They penalize you for taking the car in early $25. That's more than the two days I would have been charged to keep the car. That is robbery and immoral and nobody seemed to care. The attendant that I dropped the car off to told me that I need to speak to Guess Who... Merlyn the lady who laughed as she took my $300 in the beginning of the transaction.

I informed them that I would be lodging a complaint with the owners with the corporate office. I come to find out that Hertz is actually the owner of Thrifty Car Rental so I told them that I'm going to complain to Hertz all the way to the corporate office. That same day they refunded every single penny into my account. Which means I did not complain at all thinking that they were being honorable. HAAA! That was on the 3rd of June. I was led to believe that we were getting a refund due to all the poor service but nobody said anything. They just put the money into my account then waited until the day after the contract expired. The day after I was supposed to return the car originally and they quietly charge me the full $88 again. I am now disputing that charge with the bank.

This was on top of receiving a mechanically unsound car. The car sounded and smelled like it had not had an oil change for a long time. It's stuck on the inside and it was very cheap and the mileage was really bad on the gas for that model of car Mazda 6 2016. I've driven several Mazda 6 as rental and, I should not have had to stop for gas until after 4 hours of driving. I only drove for two-and-a-half hours and had to refill. The service and the quality of the product are absolutely disgusting. I am thoroughly disgusted with them. The attitude that these people carry and the fact that they do this with impunity to a lot of people and they don't seem to care about the repercussions or the consequences almost as if they have none. HERTZ is responsible for these people.

I researched which car companies I could rent from with a Debit card at the Philadelphia airport. Thrifty indicated that you needed a credit card or you could use a debit card if you are a Thrifty Blue Chip member. According to their general policy (first accessed 6/13/16 and quoted on 6/21/16) "Debit cards are not accepted at the outset of a rental to qualify for rentals in the New York Metropolitan Tri-State Area and the areas of Hartford, CT, Philadelphia, PA, Boston, MA, Detroit, MI, and select locations in the Baltimore, MD area unless You are a Thrifty Blue Chip member using a debit card in Your Thrifty Blue Chip profile." So I set up a profile and rented the car selecting a prepaid option (originally I opted for a specific car but the website signed me up for a wild card option instead). The prepaid option was processed by Cartrawler.com even though everything makes it appear as though it is via Thrifty.

I received confirmation of the reservation and 2 days before travel was sent a reminder which indicated that I needed a credit card to pick up the car. So, I called Thrifty to confirm as that didn't agree with their policy or the voucher terms of the agreement that was sent to me in the confirmation email. I spoke to 3 customer service representatives at Thrifty. The first was not familiar with their policies (was looking everything up as we spoke) and was very hard to understand. I asked to speak to the counter at the airport (that is the number I supposedly was given on the website) and he said there wasn't such a contact. I then spoke to his supervisor briefly who then forwarded me to Ken (Hertz Agent Number **) who was in charge of web services. Ken told me he was not aware of the policy I mentioned about debit cards (partially quoted above). So, I looked it up for him on his (Thrifty's) website and read it to him.

He told me he was unaware of the policy but it was wrong and he said he would put in a work order to fix it. He asked if I wanted to cancel and I explained that I had spent a lot of time researching and setting up the Thrifty Blue Chip profile and it did not seem reasonable that Thrifty wouldn't honor that. He told me they wouldn't and that I could cancel as I hadn't paid anything. I was surprised because I had in fact paid almost $500. I looked up my bank statement and confirmed that the payment had been processed. He told me he had dealt with many prepaid rentals and insisted that mine was not prepaid. I mentioned that my bank statement referenced CarTrawler. He said that he had never heard of CarTrawler and that I did not use the Thrifty website to make the reservation. Yet it was the Thrifty website that uses their service!

He said that Hertz had recently acquired Dollar and Thrifty and he wasn't aware of how they did business (though based on CarTrawler's website that I accessed later - it seems like they work with all 3 companies). After providing no useful or correct information Ken gave me the number of their billing office (which of course was closed). So, I looked up the reservation on CarTrawler and cancelled my reservation. Ironically/unfortunately, I needed to cancel 48 hours in advance to receive a full refund (but because of my conversation with Ken and the other representatives which lasted 40+minutes I missed that by about 20 minutes!). Hopefully I will receive a refund with only $55 deducted. Based on other reviews regarding CarTrawler, I doubt that I will be able to recoup the $55 though I hope the rest is refunded.

Bottom line - I reserved with Alamo in the end. While they are a little more expensive, I've had very good luck with them in the past and have had no issues renting from them with a Debit card and return airline ticket. Based on the lack of customer service and overall incompetence, I will not use Thirfty, Dollar, or Hertz in the future and will stay away from CarTrawller as well.

The worst company I have ever dealt with. Everything seemed fine to start with. The clerk went through the rental, we pre authorize a card as apparently this is standard and all will be released when we return and we went to collect the car. We were lucky as we had picked the midsize SUV range and all apart from one were cheapo Jeeps. We got that and went on our merry way. We drove through the fast pass toll roads without a care as we were told we settled the bill at the end. No worries about a car fault as our rental included roadside assistance.

At the end of the two weeks we return the car and are handed our receipt. While bored queuing for check in I decide to have a look. I was shocked to see charges of $247. $10 A DAY toll pass fee and $8 A DAY roadside assistance. No one mentioned these fees before. Now we know why they pre authorize your card. It's so they can charge you for things you never agreed to and you don't know till it's too late. They argue that you signed the contract and should have checked the receipt. Well isn't that a nice way to do business. It's your fault you were ripped off, not theirs for lying. Customer service is non existent and complaints go ignored. AVOID THRIFTY AND DOLLAR RENTALS AT ALL COSTS. By luck I had a photo of the toll pass info. The part that said it's optional and showed the fees had been covered over by stickers. They are the rudest people I have ever had to deal with. I reserved a car for a trip and every time I called I had to speak with someone whose native language wasn't English. That within itself was a problem - not because their native language wasn't English, but because it was so difficult to understand them. They talk fast with no regard to the fact that they have this thick accent and everyone is not accustomed to listening to them talk with their accent over the phone. They become irritated when you ask them to repeat themselves, instead of just speaking slowly and clearly, making sure to articulate their words from the beginning.

On top of that, they tried to hoodwink me into getting some service, which even now I don't know what the hell they were talking about. I told them no. The lady continued to try getting me to accept the service and I continued to tell her no. She hung up on me. That was my second time calling. The third time I called, the lady was more cordial than the other two. I still had the problem with the accent and her speaking as if I am suppose to understand her thick accent - getting irritated with me when I asked her to repeat herself. "Slow down and speak clearly so that I can freaking understand you and we can get things done!!"

It was very frustrating. All of them was quick to hang up on me. I would be asking a question only to be hung up on in mid-sentence. I am going to make sure to never ever do business with Thrifty Car Rental again. They are full of ** and I wish to see them go out of business. If a person have a problem with dealing with the public then stay home and let someone else do it. We spend our time on your service, you can at least make sure to get the ** right.

When I picked the car up I was charged a $200 deposit because I was using a debit card instead of a credit card... news flash, not everyone has nor wants a credit card! I was told I would get this back when I returned the car. I needed to get 2 extensions for the car. The first I did over the phone and the second I had to do at the airport. At no time was I told I wouldn't get my $200 deposit back nor was I told the car needed to be returned with a full tank of gas. This would have been great info to share either when I picked up the car or during the second extension. This was my first experience using a rental car from Thrifty but it will most definitely be my last. I'll never recommend them to anyone.

I booked through Hotwire and got what I thought was a very competitive rate for a rental. I actually called almost a month before trip to confirm everything and I spoke with a rep in regard to transportation from airport to rental vehicle location. I was assured that someone would be available to take me to rental. That was the first lie. 2 or 3 days before trip I wanted to confirm and try to make reservation to be picked up and taken to rental location and I was told that because this same company has location at the airport I was not eligible to be picked up by the shuttle. I asked if my rental location could just be changed to airport and they informed me that it could be, would not be able to honor the same price as they have a different inventory so changing the location would cost me an extra $200. I arranged for my own transportation to and from original rental location.

Upon arriving at the rental location I had a bad feeling as the rep just had a desk in the lobby of a hotel. She asked for my credit card info which I gave her. Everything came up and she then tells me rental is $176/week after my confirmation code shows rental was $9/day for 6 days. The rep's exact word were, “Hotwire made a mistake and we cannot honor that price.” I thought she was joking and asked how a confirmation code was generated by this company if it was Hotwire mistake. She didn't have an answer. I then asked if Hotwire routinely made mistakes like this with your company to which she responded yes, and I further questioned as to why they'd continue doing business with a party that consistently misrepresented their prices. She again had no answer. I asked for her first and last name. She reluctantly only give me first name. I then asked to speak to a manager and she claimed there was no manager present.

I called customer service right in front of her and explained what was happening. They said she is supposed to honor the price and she starts punching numbers on computer. She then throws another price out there, a little less than previous price but still not what confirmation code indicated I would be paying. I waited almost an hour and insisted that I speak to a manager. The manager finally shows up. I ask for name and he also only gives me his first name. The manager is Mayur and the initial representative was Nada. He explains to me that Nada brought him up to speed and there is nothing they can do as Hotwire made a mistake and they will not honor the price. He then asks me what company I know of that rents cars that cheap and I said that was beside the point when that very company generated a confirmation code indicating that they rented cars that cheaply.

At this point I was very frustrated but decided to go ahead with rental at the price they were charging and I would fight it with corporate once I got final bill. They gave me all pertinent information. I returned the car with no problems and 3 or 4 days after I received final bill. I immediately called corporate and complained. My confirmation code was still in system and indicated that I should've been charged significantly less. The rep starts telling me that the reason I was charged more is because I indicated I would return car at 7am and I supposedly returned at 8am. Right away I pointed out that this could not be the reason as I was told I was being charged more upon getting vehicle, not after. How would my supposed late return time have been a factor 6 days prior?? Furthermore, I did not return late. I explained to the rep that I returned the vehicle slightly before 6am as I had to catch a 7:30am flight and the airport was a 30 min taxi ride away.

She said if I could prove that I caught the 7:30am flight that the difference would be refunded. I explained that this was ridiculous because we both knew that return time had nothing to do with what they charged me. I agreed anyway just to see what happened as it wasn't hard to prove I caught 7:30am flight. I took a picture of my boarding info and tag on my bag which indicated flight number and time. I emailed info and I was told I would be contacted in a few days. I was never contacted so I reached out to them again.

I got a different rep this time and after 30 minutes of telling him the exact same story I posted above he agreed to refund the difference. I was obviously very happy with the refund but for the life of me I could not understand why I was put in this situation to begin with. He offered no explanation as to why confirmation code shows 1 price and the company tried charging me another. Do not settle for what they tell you. Document everything and if it doesn't make sense question it until you are satisfied.

We had a terrible experience with this company! We rented a car from Thrifty in March of 2016. After arriving on a late flight into Tampa we walked to the Thrifty ticket counter. Thrifty and Dollar Rental apparently have merged, because both ticket counters were taking customers. The line seemed short, maybe four people in front of us, but the three customer service reps seemed to be having difficulties. By the time we got to the head of the line we had waited over a half an hour. One of the reps told us someone would be with us shortly and promptly left. By this point there were other people in line in back of us. I worked retail for many years and never would I leave when there were customers still waiting to be helped.

After finally paying and signing paperwork, we were told to pick up our key and car across the way. There were no signs indicating where this was, but we just kept asking people until we found the Thrifty Lot. We had to cross the street at the airport and walk down a bunch of stairs to another kiosk. That rep told us to get our key from another kiosk, which was up some stairs and then back down to the parking lot. No one was there. After wandering around with a few other families in the same predicament, we finally found yet another kiosk and then had to wait in a long line and got a key. My husband was told by the rep that he hopes he knows he got a better car than we reserved. We were not told how to find the car and located it on our own. Overall the wait was at least an hour and we had a reservation and arrived on time.

After the experience I received two surveys from Thrifty Rentals. I filled out the surveys honestly and received no follow-up. I don't know why they bothered with the survey. The car was in good condition and returning the car went smoothly, but I would never do business with them again after the experience we had at check-in. Other customers that were waiting for cars told me that their sales rep was trying to upsell them and they were telling people that they should buy toll cards because some tolls are cashless and they would be fined if they didn't pay with a card. We had no issues paying cash at the tolls from Tampa to Anna Maria Island.

We did not go thru any more tolls on the trip. When we arrived back home a letter from Thrifty was delivered. It stated we didn't pay the $1.50, with $15.00 admin fee. I immediately called to straighten this all out.

The lady said she would handle it and I thought good all done, but nope two months later we received another letter, a final notice letter, if we don't pay we can't rent from Thrifty anymore. I called once again, explained that we had backed up and paid the lady. I was informed I had to prove it. How after all this time (4 months), besides the toll attendant did not give us a receipt for the $1.50. I was told to pay up or go to collections. I was very offended and upset that after being such a loyal and frequent car rental client of Thrifty, that he would waive the fee and apologize. Yes, well nope it didn't happen and I will not be using Thrifty again.

I made a rental car reservation online a few days ahead. I told the lady at the counter that how this stupid thing could happen. She said it happens all the time so it's not a big deal for her. I asked the Thrifty lady a number to call for complaints. When I called I was told that the department handling complaints is closed during the weekends. It made me even furious because they expect that no complaints to be made during the weekends?? It's ridiculous!! She complained that she was tired and didn't get a chance to eat. She was like 300 pounds so, I don't want to hear it. She was upset that she had 3 people in her line and every time she tried to eat, another customer would show up. I was nothing more than a burden on her. She gives me the paperwork and tells me I have to pay an additional $25.62 in fees. I booked through Hotwire and paid the ENTIRE balance in full but she said it was airport fees. Whatever. So I get to the car. I laughed when I saw it. I don't remember the model but it was that tiny Chevy that looks like half a car. It was filthy! Stained seats and dirty napkins. It was obvious someone smoked in it but I was in a hurry and after seeing no major dents or scratches I took it.

Next day I'm driving in the rain and as I'm going uphill, the car starts spinning its wheels. I look and notice the two front tires are completely bald! I should of looked before I accepted it, but I didn't. I called and was told the tires were my fault! Like I made them bald after driving only 20 miles?! They must have known they were bald and just threw it out there hoping an idiot like me would take it. Ok, whatever, moving on to drop off a week later. I pull up and there's another rude, fat black woman. It's 7:30 am and she says if you wanna receipt your gonna have to wait till 8. I needed a receipt so I say where should I wait? Without even looking at me she says "over there." No hand signal, nothing. She just wanted me to leave because she was too lazy to waddle back to the office and print me out a receipt. Anyway, it's over and I'm going back home to Boston. My advice, stay away from Thrifty! Arkansas too for that matter. Place is a dump.

My wife and I rented a car from Thrifty at Atlanta airport last week. It was a six day rental. We were going to drive to Nashville to visit friends after finishing up a business meeting I had in Atlanta. Our flight arrived into Atlanta late. When we got to the car rental station, the counter was closed. There was a number on the counter which I called. No one answered. After asking agents from other rental companies, we were informed that we had to go back into the airport and do a whole circle to find another Thrifty counter that was opened. Let's just say the process of finding this "other" Thrifty counter was not easy.

When we got in the car and proceeded to the exit, the guy at the kiosk said we couldn't use the car because it needed an oil change. So we had to do a circle, unload our bags and reload them into another car. We were running late, and agent at the exit kiosk was unapologetic and rude. During the process of renting the vehicle, the agent asked me if I wanted to buy a tank of gas. Without hesitation, I said yes. This was because my wife and I were going to be driving several hundred miles before returning the vehicle. During the course of our road trip - I refilled the gas tank twice, keeping in mind that I needed to return the car with EMPTY tank.

When we returned the car, I noticed an $78 for a tank of gas. It was a Chevy Spark (Tiny car). When I pointed this out to the attendant, he directed me to a kiosk. There was a huge line there and only one agent. So I decided I would call customer service to discuss my complaint. Before calling, I looked at the contract that I had signed. I somehow had declined the gas purchase. This is my bad and had inadvertently agreed to pay $9.99 per gallon if I didn't refill the tank. I really should have read the contract. But on the other hand, I did tell the gal very clearly that I wanted to buy a tank of gas.

When I called the corporate customer service department to discuss the issue, the person at the other end of was nothing less than curt, sarcastic, blunt and downright rude. I am shocked beyond words. There was no attempt to try and understand my case i.e. the ill logic of returning the car with the gas tank almost completely empty. At the end she tried to placate me with $25 coupon and was not interested in discussing the matter further. This company sucks. I will make it my business to tell everyone at every opportunity to stay away from using them. I for one will never, ever use them or their sister company Dollar.

A long complaint about a horrible company: Ordered a 7 passenger vehicle online through Expedia to be picked up in South Beach on morning of April 24. Arrived April 24 and the location had no 7 passenger vehicles at the site. They were extremely rude and the best they could offer was to give us a 4 passenger car to go exchange at the Miami Airport. Drove from South Beach to Miami Airport to exchange the car for a van. Drove the van from Miami Airport to Orlando for a work conference. Filled the car up with gas close to the drop-off location. Went to drop the car off at the Doubletree Hotel Thrifty Car Rental location in Orlando. We parked the car and went to drop off the keys at the Thrifty desk in the hotel. We waited for 15 minutes (during business hours - from about 5:15 to 5:30 while closing time was not until 6:00).

We asked the desk agent at the company next to Thrifty where the Thrifty employee was and he said he wasn't sure and suggested we leave the keys in the drop-box. We left the keys in the drop-box at about 5:30 and took an Uber from there to our hotel for the work conference. We were then charged by Thrifty for having the car for 3 days (until April 26th) when we in fact had it for a mere 5 hours. Upon several back and forth phone calls with the customer service division, they have not only been unhelpful, but extremely rude and unruly in dealing with our issue. We have thrown out the gas station receipt they are requesting to 'prove' that we returned the car on April 24th, that gas station receipt also could have been gas for another car, so don't understand how this acts as proof.

We have an Uber receipt that shows time, date, and us being taken from drop-off location to work hotel yet they won't accept this as proof. They refuse to be amicable and work with us on this matter. It's unbelievable and upsetting that this type of business can thrive when the business practices are clearly unsound and the customer service is horrendous.

My issue started before I even left for vacation. I called to confirm reservation of a rental car, as I booked a package of car, flight, and hotel for a stay in Texas. I asked the woman what my charges included, she said she couldn't help me with that because I purchased the rental through another company. She said "Well we do charge you the amount of the rental plus 15%" and I said "Ok I'll call Travelocity to see what my bill was to calculate the charges to be billed at the time of pick up". I was told by Travelocity I had the economy car for the 5 days for $41.04. Ok so I called Thrifty back just to confirm that 41.04 was all I would be charged + the 15%. The lady who I talked to this time said she couldn't tell me amount because a 3rd party booked the rental but confirmed that it is are rental price plus 15%...

So I get off my flight and head to the shuttle bus and arrive at the front desk. The guy behind the desk say "Oh you just have the economy car. You don't want that. Here I have a 4-door that will be more comfortable for you". I assured him it was just me and a carry-on bag... He proceeded to ask for my visa (they charge less fees if you use visa, MasterCard or debit they charge more). He never told me an amount and then. Told me "Well your card is declined". Declined? There was over 500 on there. Well he said "We charge 350 deposit + upgrade to a better car around $90 plus the 15%. So when it was booked I already paid a little over 40$. I guess that is just to reserve the car? Oh and if they run a card and it declined you can't use another or the same one. After transferring $ it flags that account and they told me I can't try again for 24 hours!!!

Now in stuck in Houston IAH at midnight. Now it's almost 2 am. No other rental company has rentals except one and they want to charge me 860.00. The rest have closed shop for the night at midnight. So now I'm stuck here and I have hotel reservations for a town 2 hours away. And a wedding rehearsal at 8 am tomorrow. Well more like 4 hours from now. And a car rental that was booked but not delivered and tried to pull a fast one and charge me for an upgrade I didn't approve.

I called Travelocity and told them I would be spending every day posting reviews on Thrifty rental cars and that they should suspend doing any further business with them. It seems like others have had the same issues with them. It's really sad that they think they can treat people this way. I will NEVER EVER use this company again for as long as I live! And I will be telling anyone and everyone I know. As I recall the last time I came through here with family I remember my stepdad getting billed later for unexplainable gas charges and such on a later statement on his card. It's sad that's how they have to treat customers to get paid.

When speaking with my Visa benefits rep, I was told that the second contract was not necessary, that even though there had been an accident, they would have continued to cover using Visa's insurance. I will never again use Thrifty nor any of their affiliates (Hertz & Dollar). In any case, regardless of which car rental company you use, watch out for this scam.

Through Expedia we rented a Mid-size car at Phoenix Airport. Upon arrival, the agent recommended a Full-size vehicle because of steep inclines to the Grand Canyon; this increased the cost $80. Luckily we requested an owner's manual because the low tire warning light was on when we left our destination and we had no idea what that icon meant. Upon return of the car at the Phoenix Airport, we found $99.83 additional fees charged which we were never told about (concession fee recovery, $6/day facility charge). Even after we stated we would NEVER use Thrifty again, the agent didn't acknowledge our displeasure of the cost being $234.50, instead of the $135.67 (plus an $80 upgrade we aren't sure was really necessary) on our rental confirmation.

They rushed me through the paperwork and circled the very hidden actual cost when I wasn't looking and put all the paperwork inside an envelope. When I asked for the total insurance cost, I was advised it would only be $38 but was never advised it was a daily charge. Had I not been tired, angry for the delay and desperate to be on my way, I would had looked at every sentence of the paperwork, instead I trusted them and paid for it at the end. I paid less than $30 for the vehicle rental and paid over $300 in insurance add on. Never again will I use them!

I rented a car for $211 over the phone. When I was done it cost me over $500. When I picked up the car in Orlando FL, the guy at the counter informed me that I HAD to purchase the additional insurance at $13+ per day (state law). Then he stated that if I did not pay an additional $52+ for the pre-paid toll pass that it will cost me almost $100 in the end, based on where I was traveling. Truth of the matter is, I spoke with a lawyer in my hometown since then. Both NY and FL are no fault states so I did not need the additional rider at over $98 for the week. Also, I only went through 2 tolls, leaving the airport area, and never went through another toll based on my travel. I paid $52 for a few $1 tolls.

Also, when I picked up the car, it had 3/4 tank of gas but when I closely checked the paperwork, (after I got to my destination) they checked me out as having 8/8, or full tank of fuel. Now they will charge me almost $10 per gallon and I returned it with the same 3/4 tank. My only recourse to dispute the issues when I returned the car was to go back to the counter where I rented it from. A long line and my flight boarding, stopped me from actually disputing the additional charges which included: $30 concession fee recovery? And a $27 FL surcharge? I tried calling to dispute the charges, but guess what, the customer service office is closed... By the way, Thrifty, Dollar and Hertz are all the same company... BEWARE. I will use ENTERPRISE from now on.

I will never rent a car from Thrifty again. Let me tell you. There is nothing thrifty about Thrifty. We visited Seattle in early March 2016. We were told that, that we could purchase a full tank of gas for ~$32 and not have to fill the tank before returning, or we had to fill the tank within 10 MILES of the airport and provide the receipt to prove that it was filled at a station within 10 miles. If you chose to fill up on your own and bring it back low or further away than 10 miles it was $14 per gallon to refuel. It was ~$2.00 per gallon while we were there. We rented a 2016 Ford focus. First off, I filled it for like $28 dollars so the $32 was more than the cost of fueling. Then we returned it with almost 2/3 of a tank lost on that deal too. So now, I’ve got $20 of fuel I paid for in the car, plus the $32 of fuel I paid for when I was fear-mongered into believing that I would be better off paying them for fuel, than finding it on my own within 10 miles of the airport.

Then the kicker... 3 weeks after we got home, I get a bill from Thrifty. The home of hidden costs, for 2 toll charges for crossing the lake on the 520 bridge with a $15 service charge (per toll charge) for administrative fees to deal with said tolls... So it cost ~$6.00 in tolls to cross the bridge and $30 in service fees for their account being electronically drafted once a month. They have no problem up selling the fuel charge. But notice that in a city where tolls are normal, nothing was said about this $15 per trip in a tolled area. Conveniently, thru a 20 minute conversation of all of my responsibilities, not a word about that.

Beware of Thrifty!!! They may be the cheapest on the website, but in the long run I'm quite sure I could have achieved my goals cheaper. I am all for a company making money. If they are unable to profit, they go out of business. But this felt like I was being taken advantage of and I will not do business with companies that chose to gouge their clients and use fear tactics to get them to purchase services they do not need. First and Last time they will get my money.

Later told me I "abandoned" vehicle, when I gave them the exact address of where car was located, my address, car was locked, note placed on car, and I took the keys. I don't think I would call that abandoned. Car towed in middle of night without my knowledge or that of the first three people I talked to the next morning. Finally the sixth person I talked with stated car had been towed during night. Stated I needed to return keys to RSW ASAP to avoid further charges. I told them there would be no charges! When returning keys, told to speak to two women, of whom neither was wearing a name tag (just a coincidence???). Gave her my email address and cell phone number. NEVER heard a thing from her.

A $508 charge was posted to my credit card however. Also, never received a final receipt either (ILLEGAL ALSO). Contesting charge and have a case with FL Consumer Protection. Called their customer service. Told the charge is valid as I "abandoned" vehicle. Explained to them that they failed miserably in upholding their end of the contract (car that did not start, use of gel pens, no receipt, extremely poor customer service), so therefore this contract was null and void and I will pay nothing.

I was OK with all this because with multiple people in the car, it was still cheaper than flying. Because of flooding in Louisiana, decided to change plans and fly to Ft. Lauderdale, so I returned the car in Dallas after 3 days. The daily rate went from $33 to $110, and my total charges were $480, even though I no longer had the big intercity fee, and was renting for 7 less days. I looked online and found that I could reserve the same car, same pick-up/drop off, 3 days, with the daily rate being quoted of $22, and total expected charges of $253. Interestingly, the website quoted 10% rental tax, but I was charged 15%.

I wrote an e-mail complaint through their website - no response after a week. I called and was transferred to customer service, someone named Michael said he was a supervisor, wouldn't give last name for "security purposes". He said charges were higher than what I had reserved and what I could see online because when you make a change, "You are switched to what the pricing is for someone walking up off the street to rent a car which is different than when you rent in advance." And "Spring break's over, so prices are lower". I said I wasn't asking them to give me the current price, but asking them to give me something less than nearly double. He said they had the right to change price per the contract and there was nothing to be done.

What I get out of it is that it is part of Thrifty's pricing model to gouge people that have a change of plans and to gouge people during periods of high demand. Not somebody I want to rent from ever again.

This is by far the worst company I have ever in my life dealt with. To begin, I received my vehicle as requested. A day later, a mirror was stolen off of the car, so I reported this immediately. When I did this, I was told to take my vehicle back and exchange it for a new one, which I had done. When I exchanged my vehicle, I was given a vehicle of much less quality than the previous one I had reserved. I was taking this car over 3,000 miles so it was important that I had the car I felt safe and comfortable in. I explained to Thrifty that I was unsatisfied with the vehicle they have given me and they told me that I would be able to pick up a vehicle from another location. So I called another Thrifty and explained to them the situation. They said they would be happy to accommodate me and that they had the vehicle of the class that I had wanted.

After driving almost two hours to this location, I was told that all they had left was the exact make and model of the vehicle I was already driving. The manager at this location (Richmond, VA) tried to get me to upgrade my vehicle to a Tahoe which would have cost me an extra $900.00 for the days I was renting. So I had no choice but to keep my vehicle. I called corporate and explained to them everything. They said that, again, I can go to another location and pick up another vehicle. As I went through my travels, about 7 hours after having the vehicle, it was signaling for service because an oil change was needed. I had to drive another 1,200 miles before I would get to where I needed to be.

Finally I got to Milwaukee, WI and got a car that I needed. After all of this, I asked corporate if they would discount my bill because I had to drive a vehicle that was not what I had reserved for almost 3 days, and I spent a total of almost 5 hours driving to locations to get the vehicle I should have been given in the first place. NEVER happened.

Towards the end of my trip, my spouse was involved in a horrible accident that came close to taking his life. The night of the accident I did what I was supposed to and called the company immediately. I gave the company all the information in regards to the accident that they had asked for. They told me to call back the next day and they would deal with it all since Customer Service was not opened. I called back the next day and Customer Service could not find any records of the phone call I had made giving this gentlemen from Road Side Assistance all the information they had asked, which was about 20-25 minutes of questions.

Two days after the accident, I went to a location in MD and filled out the accident report that they had requested. I have spent weeks trying to contact Thrifty. On three separate occasions they have hung up on me. I have continued to leave messages and have someone call me back and they have failed to do so. They charged my credit card an extra 700+ dollars and have given me no information at all on why. When I called to get my reference number so that I could look it up, they told me no.

It has not been almost a month past the accident and still they will not talk. I did get in contact with them at one point and they said have my lawyer call their legal department if I have issues with how they do business, and then was hung up on. Never in my life have I had to deal with something like this. This is completely beyond belief and I don't understand why they will not resolve the issue. I don't even know what I should do at this point. This company should be put out of business! I'm still at a disbelief of all that has gone on.

They charged me 3 times as much as their maximum advertised rate. Customer Service totally unresponsive. NEVER AGAIN will I use this company and neither should you!

Unless you know 100% everything about your rental, are on your A game, and prepared to argue; pick another company. I set up the rental for my mother who has medical problems that include PTSD and anxiety issues. I hates to travel but had to go see her dying father. The plans was really late and she was already frazzled. She had never rented a car before so I told her to just hand all the paperwork to the agent at the desk. I had purchased insurance and all she should have had to do was sign and go, but the woman at the desk adds insurance and doubles the cost of the rental.

Before leaving the rental area she calls me and I tell her to have them fix it. Apparently they could not fix it until morning (they didn't fix it in the morning). Find out after rental is complete that they didn't reverse charge like they said they would call and I get so many different stories, it is not even funny. My favorite was that I should have called to fix it during rental (um it takes days for the bank to show that no charge was reversed and rental was complete by that time). Followed closely by "we don't accept 3rd party insurance". NEVER USE THIS COMPANY EVER.

I didn't know that my wife had already paid 102.62 online. When I got my bill for 204.47, it didn't seem too much. But when I got home and my wife saw that I had paid that much, all hell broke loose. I called the San Antonio branch to complain. They had me on hold for approximately 8 minutes and all of a sudden, they hung up on me... so then I called their 800 number and I'll be damned if they didn't do the same thing. It is probably a practice that they all do about the complaints they get. I will never use Thrifty again... and I will tell all my family and friends about their scams.

I will never recommend Thrifty to anyone and I will never ever use Thrifty again. I chose Thrifty due to the price and I paid more than twice what I was quoted due to the extra insurance that they highly recommended since Florida is a no fault state for insurance even though I already have car insurance. There was about a 45 min. wait in line to get the vehicle at the airport. I also received a bill for $17.43 saying that I didn't pay tolls in Fl on my return to the airport. There was no toll booth there to pay it since it is SunPass but it wasn't recommended to me by the consultant to get a SunPass. I would gladly pay the toll but charging $16.91 in admin fees for tolls under $2 is outrageous. My reservation on 12/1/15 said that my charges would be $192.20 and I actually paid about $393. Unbelievable!

I made a reservation for a rental car online using Cheap Car online. I choose an Ultima for 101.00 total. When I got to the counter I was given two choices: an Nissan and a Kia Soul. I asked which one was newer and I was told the Nissan. When I sign, got my keys and went to the car, I was surprised how dirty the car looked. It had 31,000 miles on it. Sitting next to the car was an Ultima. I went back to the counter and asked why I did not get the Ultima as requested. I was told by Dennis that I did not order that size car, but I could have the Ultima for 181.00.

I asked how could that be and he claimed that he was giving me a "deal." I said no thanks and said I do not want the Nissan and that I would take my business elsewhere. I returned to the Nissan to pick up my things and went to another car dealer just next counter and rental a very nice mid-size car for $100.00. In the process, I accidentally left with the key for the Nissan (the car from Thrifty that I cancelled). As soon as I discovered that I returned the key the very next day even though it meant driving over 50 miles to do so. When I got to the counter to drop the keys off I was told that I would be charged a hefty amount because I signed a contact. I said yes I did but reminded the lady at the counter that I had canceled the contract.

I found the attendant to be very rude and very racist her response to me. When I asked to talk to the manager she said no and asked me very rudely to move away from the counter. She said she would call the police. I did not and indicated that she called the police for a bomb threat. I repeatedly asked her what that had to do with me, but she continued to be very rude in her responses. I never received a call from the manager as promised and my credit card was charged 35.00. I will pay the 35.00, but will never again rent form Thrifty and would not recommend it to anyone. They are unprofessional, rude and racists.

I spoke with a live representative, I explained to her before charging my card "please let me know how much the cost will be before charging the card just in case I had to transfer funds". That's the first mistake. She did not listen. She charged the card and it was declined. She gave me a quote from Friday to Monday of 194. I asked her if the rate and quote will remain the same if I call back the next day as she suggested and twice she assured me the price will stay 194. When I call back they tell me 556 dollars more. How is that possible. The lady told me she would make notes and assured me it will remain 194.

I spoke to a supervisor. She told me if I have someone pick the vehicle up they will charge me. WAIT!!! Why am I being held responsible for POOR TRAINING of your employees. Thrifty is a rip off. They scam you out of your money, they do not accommodate customers even when calls are recorded and monitored. I am very unsatisfied with this company. It needs to be SHUT DOWN!!! After that he came outside with us to show the van near the nightfall around 17:02 and he was talking really quick about the damage the van already has because it was nearly closing time. However, when we gave the van back around 16:30 with the sunshine he was checking the damage and he told us there is a damage in one of the sides of the van. This damage is really difficult to see. It's like a tiny dent that you can only appreciate if you put your face in the sheet of the van; obviously we haven't checked the van like that when he gave it to us because as I said it was getting dark.

We haven't done anything to the van, the van has been parked in a hotel parking during most of the time we have it. Apparently they want us to pay for that damage which is ridiculous because this damage could be done by anyone because it was priceless and it could not be documented in the paper from the renter before. It seems to me very unprofessional and if this situation has not been sorted soon I will tell my lawyers to make a formal claim; in addition to this I will give very bad references in regards to this company to all my contacts and through the internet. I'm very disappointed with this event.

We declined the 13.99 per day (total $195.86) for insurance at the Tampa Airport but then the representative realized my husband's driver's license was expired. We made the change to me and he did not ask again. I believe the mistake was their fault. And I acknowledge that I did not catch it. We were very rushed and we were in Florida to go to the Mayo Clinic for my husband and to visit family. My Husband's 89 yr old Mother was not doing well and his sister who took care of her was having triple bypass surgery. Upon return of the vehicle we realized the agent had added the 13.99 charge. Asked who to see. They sent us to the office. There was 1 person behind the desk and 4 angry people trying to get answers, I waited 15 minutes and was told I had to call customer service. I called 1/15. After a series of prompts I was told it was a holiday and customer service was off.

I called 1/16 and was on hold 27 minutes and had to hang up. Called 1/17 on hold 20 minutes given to a rep at Corporate who said nothing could be done. I asked for a supervisor. Was told there is none at corporate. That's the policy and nothing can be done. Called 1/19 on hold 10 minutes sent to corporate again. Got the same person (Staffing is definitely an issue). She again said nothing could be done and there was no supervisor. The decisions are left to her. I feel sorry for her. She must take a lot of ** from customers based on my experience. We have to return to Florida in April. I will never rent from Dollar (who I have used in the past) or Thrifty again. Don't be tempted by price. It is not worth the lack of courtesy.

My business trip was cut short by a few days and I returned the car early, 3 days early. I did not expect that to be a problem and figured that I would still be obligated to the total contract cost of $177.01. THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED! Thrifty actually penalized me for bringing the car back early and charged me $754.62! They said I broke the contract by bringing the car back early and that they had the right to re-rate it.

When I called customer service, it wasn't that at all, I was told that I should have read the entire contract before renting the car. Unfortunately all the other reputable car rental companies were all booked, so we waited for hours and they found us an economy car. But it cost substantially more than online and they charges us the extra ''insurance''. I ask the salesman to please take it off because we didn't need their insurance. He very rudely said smiling ''It can't be not done now. Do you want the car or not?''

We were stuck so we took it. But the fun wasn't over yet. When we went to pick up the car in the garage the ''lady'' was even more rude than the salesman! Because of the snow storm in the Washington DC/Maryland area we had to drive back about a thousand miles instead of flying. Beware the additional insurance coverage upsell! They will tell you that you only have two options for insurance - Premium coverage or "Basic" coverage. DO NOT accept either! Your current auto insurance carrier most likely covers rental cars (check with your agent or read your policy before renting a car). You do not need to pay Car rental Companies (like Thrifty) for insurance coverage! You have other (more affordable) options. I was deceptively conned into paying a premium to rent a compact economy car. I was quoted $23 per day and when all fees, taxes, insurance, etc. was added in, it ended up costing me more like $85 per day! This is not the first time I have rented a car either. Also, NEVER let the car rental company be responsible for the fuel refill! They will gouge you there too!

To start out, the mini-van we reserved wasn't available and we had to wait over an hour for one to come in. Then, while still at the airport, I decided I did not want the prepaid option for gas. This was almost $50, and with the current prices on gas and knowing we weren't going to use a full tank, we didn't want this. I returned to the counter and the representative wrote "Remove gas" on the bottom of the page. This was her answer to get rid of me and keep my money.

I was told at checkout that the cost for the toll pass was the same as the pay-as-you-go option, which is why I chose it. This wasn't true. When we arrived at the hotel my wife looked further at the agreement and found the small print that we had agreed not to the cost of $2.09 which we used on the way to our hotel as indicated by your representative said, but much, much more.

Shocked, I immediately called and found that we can't decline over the phone. We would have to return to the agency. We did this the following day, missing some of our Disney time, and were told we would be charged for use of the roads for the first day, not an additional administration fee. I also inquired about the words "Remove gas" and when that credit would apply to the account, and was told that it wouldn't be removed, that the change did not get entered in the agreement on the computer. I was stuck with an overpriced tank of gas.

I got a bill in the mail today for $2.09 in toll fees and $30 for your company to process. This is outrageous. It's frustrating to be lied to. I am making payment of this outrageous administration fee but would request this amount be refunded as it just isn't fair to treat your customer this way. I also would request some training for your representatives so they don't mislead your customers.

When I called, I was told that buried in the rental agreement was clause saying that I agree to pay a $15 administrative fee for each toll that Thrifty incurs (up to 7). While I never noticed this clause in the lengthy agreement, I did notice the big sticker on the windshield that said that Thrifty will pay all tolls to the Florida toll system. I assumed that I would get a follow-up bill for the tolls but I did not expect $105 in administrative fees for $15 worth of tolls.

When I called they said they could give me a 'one time courtesy' of retro subscribing me to their toll paying service at ONLY $86! So I see, I could have paid $86 in advance (had I seen this buried clause), in order to avoid these $15 worth of tolls. While this perhaps, may be legal, it is incredibly unethical. I run my own business. When you rip off customers in this way, you may experience short-term gain, but there is ultimately a long-term loss. This is my first and last time renting with Thrifty.

BEWARE! Read carefully, as these hundreds of bad reviews are not the exception but rather the rule. I have been renting cars for both vacation and business for over 20 years, and have been fairly faithful to Enterprise and Avis even though their prices are significantly higher. Due to a rare event I was unable to obtain the vehicle size needed from anyone but Dollar -AKA Thrifty. Basing my previous experience on the aforementioned, I did not review Dollar ahead of time... What a bad mistake! I reserved my car online at Dollars own website two weeks ahead of time and was quoted a final price as well as a Toyota Rav 4 or similar mid size SUV. Three days before picking up the car I called Dollar to confirm my reservation and asked if they were 100% certain I would be able to obtain a mid size SUV. She stated that if I gave her a $100.00 deposit right then over the phone she would promise I would have no issues. I agreed.

Upon arriving at the airport to pick up the car I was informed on the spot that no mid size SUV's were available and I would be getting a compact size. I asked if the price I was quoted would reflect this, and was told the price would not change and I would have to pay the higher original price for the much smaller car. Due strictly to time restraint, I had no choice but to agree. I was then told I need an additional $100.00 deposit on top of the first $100.00.. which I again agreed. I have full coverage insurance and they called my insurance company to verify this. I then denied each and every up-sale option presented, and was then told the final price would be 4 times higher than what I was quoted online even after the forced downgrade.

If this were not enough, a couple was at the clerk next to me asking why they were charged for every option they denied when dropping off the car. I have rented cars at least 30 times and have never ever seen anything like this. With no shame at all, they not only lied directly to me over and over, but then proceeded to scam me well above and beyond the most extravagant imagination. If you rent a vehicle from Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty you will certainly regret every aspect. After checking the BBB, it turns out they literally have thousands of unsettled cases both in and out of court.

Several class action lawsuits have been filed over the last decade for unauthorized credit card charges months after cars were returned in the same condition with full tanks of gas. The scariest part of these people's tactics is that they will not stay out of your bank account once they have your card number. I saw dozens of cases where cards were charged upwards of 8 separate times even after all dues were paid. Deposits are hardly ever returned, and in the rare event they are, it's a small portion of the original deposit. STAY AWAY!

I had compared rental prices online through Expedia and paid for (received confirmation #) a Corolla for 5 days for $161. With dinner plans in Porta Punta, we encountered this unprofessional agent who insisted that I pay $387 for (prepaid) $161 reservations. He said the Expedia International insurance "wouldn't cover" DR incidences (while their insurance cost double), that the taxes were twice what had been charged, and that there was an extra charge for a 2nd driver (that I'd already paid for online).

We called Expedia and tried for 45 minutes to figure out the coverages and insurance coverage - reading their entire insurance policy (nothing said about DR being an exception). This man could've cared less. I needed to pay him more than double what I had already paid, or go away. Because we would now be an hour late for dinner, we finally just paid it only to find I'd gotten a KIA ('no Corollas available' though they were online) that was filthy! Sand in every footwell, garbage under the seats, bugs plastered all over the front, dirt along the sides, gas tank 1/4 tank full, etc

Returning the car was even worse. We'd stayed at the Sheraton nearby solely to be sure to get to the airport over 2 hours before our flight, but found nobody from Thrifty in the return lot. There were a lot of guys for other agencies, but none for Thrifty. So we drove to the terminal desk, talked a security guard into temporary parking and went to the desk, only to find a very vexed guy arguing with the woman about getting charged double for the $600 SUV contract that he'd also paid (in full) online! We could do nothing but wait while he argued the exact same issues.

Twice I left my daughter in line and drove back to the return lot to find no one there. Then a guy gets behind us in line who is clearly frustrated at having to wait in line after not finding a Thrifty agent at the return lot. He heard the argument between the first guy in line, and it turned out he had also been charged DOUBLE for his prepaid rental!! Together we finally convinced the first guy that Thrifty was double-charging & he couldn't convince them otherwise so he paid $1,200 and stormed off.

Then, though the guy behind me & I had anxiously told the gal several times that there was no attendant in the return lot, she tells me she can't do anything until the car has been returned to the lot! I told her I'd driven there 3 times with the guy behind me chiming in that there was no agent out there. So she calls someone and with an hour before my flight, tells me there's someone going to it. I drive all the way back to lot and this time, see the ** agent I'd dealt with initially. I said I'd been trying to return the car for an hour and 1/2 which he ignored, instead SLOWLY looking over every inch of the car, inside & out, before giving me the papers. I was clearly worried about the time and having to run all the way back to the terminal, yet he then insisted that there was less gas than the 3/8th's/tank I started with. I said it was exactly where it had been initially and added that I'd had to drive in circles around the airport several times.

I've never rented a practically empty car before, so maybe it was the differences in small increments, but he repeatedly insisted that I pay HIM $10.00 IN CASH! Like that money would ever get into Thrifty's hands. When I refused, he angrily said that then he'd charge my credit card. I responded that he did not have my permission to add any extra charges without my having discussed the issue with a 3rd party. I haven't had a chance to see if he did, but making such flagrant declarations about applying random charges to my credit card was bogus.

I ran back to the terminal desk, cut in line to throw the papers on the desk and took off for my gate. With 20 minutes left before my flight, I hit the customs lines! I begged people in the handicap line to let me through, then dodged around people in the crowded walkways and gifts shops. When I got to the gate, breathless, I saw they'd already switched the destination to NYC. Luckily an agent stepped forward and asked if I was Rebecca, said they 'shouldn't do this', then hurried me out on the tarmac. They pulled up the stairs as soon as I got through the door. Thrifty will have to offer a really exceptional rate before I'll chance another encounter with them. I'm not a big one to write reviews and this response has taken far too much of my time but this was THAT bad an experience.

All employees said charge was a mistake, but no one had authority to change it. Called manager, called customer service 3 times, called corporate, never answered.

Finally asked my credit card company to help. Husband finally had someone from Thrifty answer phone after 1/2 hour of ringing. Person who answered said charge was incorrect, but had to involve supervisor because of contested charge through credit card company. Supervisor was rude. End result: Thrifty would not reimburse incorrectly applied overcharge of $500 and said they would not rent to me again. LOL like I would want to rent from them again. Also, left items in car by mistake. Called lost & found. Long wait on phone... no one answered. Called twice and left messages. No one called back... and this was before the dispute! 1st time with Thrifty and last time with Thrifty!

When I rented the car, I had no intention of using the turnpike so I did not rent the E-ZPass for $5.00 a day. Unfortunately, there was an E-ZPass in the car and was SUPPOSED to not be activated unless the box is open. I kept it closed. When I went through the booth to pick up a ticket to pay cash, no ticket came out. At the end of my trip (a $2.30 charge) the toll booth at the cash booth told me the E-ZPass had been read. The same happened on my way home. This time I opened and closed the box to make sure it was not open at all. My total charges should have been $4.60 but I received a bill for $79.99. When I called the woman was very pleasant and said she could reduce the charge to $40 which is still ridiculous. This is very unfair to renters.

I had a reservation with Thrifty at O'Hare international airport for a mid-size Sedan. I got to the location 45 minutes before my scheduled pickup time. The person at the counter told me they're still preparing my car so I would have to wait. Seeing as I came in earlier than expected, I was not surprised and obliged. An hour later they call me up to the counter. Here I am thinking I will be finally getting my car and be on my way. Wrong! The counter person tells me they don't have a car for me anymore because it was given away to someone else. He said that he couldn't find me and had been calling my name for a while but since I didn't show up, the vehicle was given away. The best part, I was sitting right in front of him in the same tiny room the entire time. I pointed out to him that I have been literally in front of him for the last hour, he became quite defensive saying they don't reserve cars for people and it's based on who comes first.

At this point I asked to see a manager. No manager available. How convenient. The agent then proceeded to tell me he can upgrade me to a Chrysler minivan if I wanted to and he will do me "a solid" and not change my rate. Why would I want a van when they had multiple cars from my category in their lot? I told them I will not take a van and if they're not going to honor their reservation I will leave. Which I did. And conveniently got charged a no-show fee which I instructed my bank not to pay. Went to Alamo and got a true VIP service. They even let you choose your own car, none of this lying BS. I hope Thrifty and their parent company Hertz to run into the ground. They're all thieves that should be in jail. Corruption galore. No customer service, no care. I'm done with them. They can go die for all I care.

The WORST car company I have ever dealt with (& we rent a lot!). Slow & deceptive. I was pregnant and travelling with 3 small children under the age of 5 by myself. We had just exited a 4 1/2 hour flight, lugged all of our luggage through the incredibly inconvenient shuttle process and waited in line for nearly 40 minutes. With the haggard children lobbying for my attention the agent asked me, "what kind of insurance would you like?" This being my first time renting by myself (usually, my husband handles the interaction) I replied in question form... "whatever is the most basic that's required..."

Instead of telling me insurance was not required, or informing a misinformed customer, he took advantage and added a $400 charge to the bill, did not announce that the total would now differ from what I had originally booked, and handed me the receipt to sign quickly while dealing with the kids. This company was deceptive, did not answer questions, and when I called to complain informed me that they have no actual department for complaints, or any way to submit a formal complaint, or look into complaints at all.

If you book with the company you are definitely taking a risk! Their employees put sales before customer service, and there is no way to fix anything if something goes wrong!! I know I will never EVER use this company again, I don't care how much more I have to spend. Thrifty should be ashamed for taking advantage of a 6-month pregnant woman travelling alone with 3 children under the age of 5!

My rental car experience was deceiving and unprofessional. I reserved the vehicle online, a few days before my trip to Santo Domingo. My mother (who resides in the city) went to pick up the car. Upon her arrival, the associate Edgar told my mom that she cannot rent a car unless she purchases an insurance that costs the same price as the car a day ($25) and if she declines, that she will not be able to take car. She has no choice but to take the car because I arrived that same day and she needed to pick me up at the airport. The manager was informed. He pretty much said "We are out of luck and we cannot return your money. Have a good day." I WILL NEVER RENT A CAR FROM THRIFTY. I later found out Thrifty in Dominican Republic cheat their consumers into buying unwanted insurances by informing them they will be able to rent a car with Thrifty. When we arrived at the counter with paper in hand showing price due, I added our daughter as an additional driver which I had expected to pay add'l. The reservationist states they did not have the size we requested, but would upgrade at no additional charge. Unfortunately due to my negligence and the hectic atmosphere at the counter, I did not examine the receipt that I signed which was for $523.31 until later and at first thought they had a hold for add'l expenses in case of damage. I was charged for the upgraded car, concession fee recovery 45.70, vehicle licensing cost recovery 2.26???

When I contacted AAA who referred me to Priceline, Priceline said they investigated and nothing could be done. Told if further investigation, go directly to Thrifty which I e-mailed them also, and again told nothing could be done because I signed the receipt. So the lesson learned is BEWARE at the counter no matter how hectic, but I personally will never use them again.

When we arrived in Denver, the service we received was poor to say the least. The first four cars we could choose from had terrible odors, and they were dirty inside and out. The third car, which did not meet the size or comfort expectations that we paid an upgrade price for, was not as smelly, but didn't have that clean car smell. The car was a white Nissan Versa. It had large dark stains on the carpet and dings and damage all over the body. The attendant didn't even check any of it. We took the car because we were running short on time to the viewing.

When we dropped off the car at the airport, we nearly missed our departure because the shuttle was so slow! I have written Thrifty several times in order to discuss our experience with them and to reach an understanding so that this bad experience could be changed into a better one. They have not responded. All in all, this was FAR from a positive experience. Well these people are providing false information to customers to get them to sign other contracts - and to me that is deceitful and false information to embezzle more money and they should be made to refund customers and charged for every misconduct that has taken place. The person who answered the phone was in the Philippines and spoke very poor English. She advised that because the Thrifty car place at the Sanford airport closed at 11:00 p.m. (my flight was now scheduled to arrive around 1:00 a.m. on 11/6/15 - 3 hours later than originally scheduled), I would need to come back to the airport at 8:00 a.m. to get my car. The stupidity of this was totally lost on the lady...

When I was advised by airport personnel at my originating airport that the car rental companies were to remain open until the last flight arrived, I attempted to contact Thrifty at the Sanford airport. They refused to answer the phone. I called the 1-800 number again and received another lady in the Philippines whose English was only slightly better than the first person I talked to (I eventually requested to be transferred to someone in the United States so I could understand them and they could understand me). After talking to several Thrifty reps, each one claimed to have contacted the local Thrifty counter at the Sanford airport and said they didn't answer and they had no other way to contact them. My Thrifty rental was cancelled, I had to make other arrangements to get from the Sanford airport and I will NEVER use Thrifty again. Their customer service is non-existent and they apparently do not abide by the same policies the other rental car companies do.

I rented a Chevy Traverse [Unit: 215858], rental agreement #** from the Thrifty Rental location at 8014 E Sprague in Spokane Valley, WA for a business trip. The rental started with the location not having the vehicle I reserved. However, they offered to immediately upgrade me into this Traverse that had just come back and was clean. On initial walk around I did observe scratches to the lower bumper and along the door panel and the rental agent noted those. Otherwise the vehicle appeared in good shape. I took the rental and hit the road.

About 20 minutes later when I hit a point on the freeway that the sun was directly ahead of me, I immediately noticed a small chip in the windshield all the way to the far driver's side and out of plain sight. I immediately called the dealership to notify them. The agent told me if I returned, he had another vehicle he could put me in. But since I was 20+ miles West of Spokane at this point and already running late, he simply offered to document it for me, assuring me that there would be no problem at check in.

Upon returning the car after having it for a week, the chip had not spread at all. But I made sure to point it out to the lot porter that checked it in and the agent I returned it to inside. Both of these employees apologized and said there was no problem. The employee that checked me in was **. Two days later I received a call from ** the manager telling me he had a big problem with the Traverse. He explained that the little rock chip that hadn't spread in the week that I had it, had overnight spread and cracked across the entire windshield and someone was going to have to pay for that. I explained to ** the conversations I had with his staff just after checking it out, when I discovered it and also at check-in. He immediately became more irate and unprofessional. Then he already was stating there was no way possible for them to check it out that way.

I decided to discontinue my conversation at that point with him because of his unprofessional demeanor and told him I would contact Chris ** the Regional for those locations, whom I have worked with for sometime because this is a corporate account that you have; had. Three calls and an email to Chris remained unreturned. Then three days later Tyler from PurCo called me saying he was following up on the claim that ** had submitted to him and he needed to figure out how we planned to pay for the damage. After having a good but short conversation with Tyler, he agreed in his own words that he did not blame me, and if it was him he wouldn't pay for that damage either. So he was going to reach out to Chris which he stated he knew well and he would follow up with me if there was anything further or they weren't able to simply resolve this matter.

Three months elapsed with no contact and during that period as I had told ** and also communicated on Chris' voicemail, if I didn't get a response back about ** being out of line and grossly unprofessional I would take our rental contract elsewhere, which I have now done for all 5 of our branches. And also communicated my experience to our Corporate Account Manager. On the heels of that, I then get a letter from PurCo invoicing me for the damage and loss of use. I immediately called Tyler and left him a message.

We finally connected on 10/27/15 at 3:34 pm and I reminded Tyler of the conversation we had. He stated he had since then talked to Chris and there was no way the vehicle went out that way and it must have been damaged during my rental. I asked him what happened since the last time we talked because he had agreed I was not at fault when we spoke in July. He had no answer and just deferred the question. He stated I was going to have to turn this in to my insurance, as ** had also said in July. And I informed him that my insurance agent had informed me in July when I reached out to them thinking that Thrifty would attempt to submit the claim directly, that if I attested that the damage was done while it was in my possession and that was not true, that it would be considered insurance fraud.

Tyler said this simply wasn't true and that all I had to do was admit it happened while I had it. But not while I was operating the vehicle and that would not be fraud. I told him I refused to lie in a statement to my insurance company and that I would be seeking legal advice from our counsel before speaking to him further. He told me to give them his number and hung up. I will never do business with Thrifty again and will warn every person I come into contact with both personally and professionally.

When my wife and I went to Chicago, we arranged to rent a car through Thrifty Rental Car. They seemed to have the best deal for prepaid car rentals. When we arrived, we joined the long line at their just off the airport location. As we stood in line, it became apparent that up selling was the name of the game there and then. One agent attempted every conceivable form of up selling on a group of ladies who, like us, had a prearranged rental. What I thought was the most outrageous up-sell was his telling them that they could not leave Chicago without driving on toll roads. Furthermore, he told them that many of the tollbooths only worked through electronic payment devices. Specifically, he said that if they did not rent one, they would be ticketed and the fines would be much higher than the rental charge Thrifty was charging for the device. The woman renting the car had to demand that Thrifty honor the prearranged rental agreement.

I continued waiting in line, thinking at the time, that any of us with a smartphone could easily get GPS mapping which would avoid tolls. I concluded that this was the approach I would take and I would investigate to see if there was any truth at all in the agent's claims. When it was my turn, I rented the car that I had prearranged, and I declined and initialed the declination all the additional coverages and fees, including the automatic toll device. My wife and I then spent a wonderful week with our son, his wife, and children. During that period, I contacted several places, including AAA, to verify that the agent’s story was at best a tall tale. From what I could determine, the only penalty for paying in cash at a toll booth was that the fees would be higher because of the requirement for human being there. So, since we needed to leave before dawn in order to make our flight, I opted to save driving time by using the more direct toll roads.

What I found, was that though I could have paid the toll, Thrifty had ignored my declining the toll device. From what one toll collection agent told me, Thrifty could have easily turned off the device at their rental location. However, as they sent the car out with it active, the toll agent could not accept direct payment of the told by me, as if it already been collected electronically. When I turned the car in, I complained of the problem to the person that I returned the car to. I told him that as it was Thrifty's error, which I had no way of correcting, I did not expect to be billed for the device.

The statement I received at the time was for the contracted amount, that is I was not billed for the toll device. However, weeks later, I received a bill from Thrifty for the device. To make matters worse, they did not bill me for the only day on which the device was used, I was billed for using the device throughout my trip, although I could not have used it any but the first and last day, and only used at the last day as I could not avoid it.

My wife and I waited for another 1 1/2 hours for customer agent to check us in, finally one of the KIOSK's was available. People avoid these if at all possible, can't hear them then the printouts are not readable. I reserved my car thru UNITED AIRLINES for a set price, the car rental price was HIGHER, again all they would say is "we don't know why" and there was nothing they could do but I have the choice to go elsewhere. They told me that if you can believe it.

Of course now all I want to do is get the car and get going due to the fact I was already 3 plus hours late and was facing another 3 hour drive, but no you have to try and hear all the extras they try to sell you, this kiosk process was nearly 25 minutes long. WOW, I was thinking CAN IT POSSIBLY. Front of me waiting for the same cars, so another 2 hours goes by until a car is finally available and it GET ANY WORSE? Sure enough NO cars in the class I rented available and there are 25 people in. Not even clean, melted chocolate all over the driver's seat that ended up on my suit pants AND a dirty child's diaper was shoved up under the passenger seat that we find the next day after sitting in the hot sun all day, oh yes it was WONDERFUL.

The cars are supposed to be FULL of gas, we go about 6 miles from the rental lot and I noticed the gas gauge is between 3/4 tank and full so I fill it up, 9 gallons to fill it full! 9 gallons at 3.79 a gallon! So now I'm furious all over again. When I look down and the driver's rear tire is nearly flat. Twenty dollars to fix a flat on a car that isn't even mine. Of course car lot offered to have it repaired but it would be between 2 to 6 hours before they could get to us. Strike out in every way possible and it gets even worse.

We managed to get onto some of the many toll roads around the Orange county area by mistake so called into the Thrifty customer service who told us they would take care of the tolls when we finished our use of the car. What they didn't tell us was HOW they would take care of it. A 15 dollar administrative charge to give the toll operator our information, so a charge for each time even when it was the same toll road. 60 dollars and the customer still has to pay the tolls. Oh but after I paid the tolls I was told they would retroactive a toll pass for 39 to 69 dollars that would pay the tolls for me. They should have told me that first before paying the tolls, it would be worthwhile.

Customer Service can't help in any way, these poor people are bound by the rules of their employer and I can only imagine how often angry customers chew them out, Dollar Thrifty is a dinosaur that needs to go extinct or change their policy and practices. I can say this for a fact I will go elsewhere and pay more before ever renting from dollar thrifty ever again.

I reserved a rental vehicle two weeks prior to need thru the OTA Expedia. The vehicle we had requested was a 2 or 4 door mid-size car. We wanted this size vehicle for comfort as well as gas efficiency. When we arrived at the counter to pick up the reserved vehicle the counter agent told us they had sold out of the midsize cars. Now again we had reserved this vehicle two weeks prior to need. They offered to upgrade our choice at half the cost, we did not need nor want an upgrade but within the two weeks of the need my husband's mother (which was the reason for our trip) had taken a turn for the worse and we could not start all over again.

The vehicle they gave us was a Nissan Frontier a mid-size truck, this was the most uncomfortable ride I have taken a 13 hour drive (Wisconsin) in. The gas to and from our trip cost us twice what the rental was. If a company is going to advertise they have something that the consumer wishes to purchase or rent I feel they should either have the needed item or provide a similar item. This is a total rip off and the advertisement false.

Beware! Thrifty is not so thrifty, at least in Florida! When we went to the counter to rent our car, we were asked if we would be using the toll roads. We didn't think we would, so we said no. Nothing more was mentioned about it or why they asked. Upon return from our vacation we received a letter with an additional charge of $105, because we did end up using the toll roads. Did the tolls cost that much? No! We, in fact had a total of $10.30 in tolls. The rest is an "administrative charge"! Unbelievable! And there is no other way you can use the toll roads, other than paying them for the pass, which they charge $8.99 a day, or $45.95 for a week! We never knew any of this until the unfair ridiculous charge came in.

Looking at the fine print of the contract, it says that you should have the opportunity to pay your tolls when you turn in your car. That didn't happen! They just rushed us out of the car and pointed us to the terminal! Even if we had known in advance that we would be using the toll roads, that charge is ridiculously unfair and unreasonable! But the worst of all, is to not know until you return home and are charged! The car may have been thrifty, but the excess charges were unbelievable! Never again will we use Thrifty, and I would warn anyone else to check them out very carefully before they rent with them.

On the website they ask if you would like to play the day wild card and win a chance to upgrade to a full size, etc. When getting to the rental Tampa Airport, the rep laughed and let me know that it was a scam. Since I paid for a compact car that is all I would get, there was no wild card. They are told to always give a compact or small car, only give what the customer paid for. I would have upgraded but was told double the cost to upgrade to the next size. I was then stuck with a small compact car that was filthy dirty, with holes in the carpet and a strong smell mold.

They also want you to pay for a full tank a gas prior to bringing the car back, my question what if I brought the car back with 3/4 of a tank do I get a refund (NO). They stated that I can fill it up but it had to be within 10 miles of the airport and show that I did with a valid receipt. I was okay and she continue to say that if they do not think it is full I would have to pay for a full tank at 9.99 a gallon. I did fill up 10 miles of the airport and I did take photos of the gas meter and pump showing that I did. Their website was very misleading and would not trust them again. They are not even in United States to claim to or request for help, they are in Ireland and you have to try and contact them there. LAST WORDS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

On 7/26/2015, we contacted corporate as advised regarding this issue and Cherise informed us that a credit of $166 was issued on 7/26 and that it would take 3 to 5 days to process. We never received the credit.

On 8/4/15, my wife contacted Jett (Jeanette), a corporate consumer response rep, to inquire about the credit. Jett advised that it was noted in the system but never sent to processing!! Jett was extremely unprofessional and blatantly rude to my wife! She exemplified POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE in handling the situation. Her dialogue was condescending and unapologetic about our inconvenience. Jett muted the conversation as my wife expressed disappointment of her unprofessional demeanor. At that point, my wife asked to speak to a supervisor or manager in which she was advised that she was corporate and refused to transfer her call to someone of authority by the name of Tracey.

Employees like Jett or Jeanette is a disservice to Thrifty with a lack of integrity with an unprofessional demeanor. We advised her that the call was being recorded and she continued to provide poor customer service. After providing my email address to her as requested, she never emailed the case ID information as she stated she would. Dalesha at corporate immediately sent the email & transferred me to Tracey's voicemail after having contact corporate again after the disturbing call with Jett. My wife's colleagues witnessed the call with Jett as well and were just as appalled & disappointed in her unwarranted & unprofessional behavior and lack of efficiency as she never sent the credit request for processing! I would like to share with you the unpleasant experience that I have had with thrifty. Me and my wife were in a honeymoon in the USA. We have planned this trip for few month and worked hard to save the money necessary. We have booked a car through THRIFTY for 14 days. When we got the car the computer inside the car showed that one of the tires has only half of the air pressure that is needed. We told that to the service representative and he said that it's OK. Since we are not familiar with that kind of car we had no choice but trust what we've been told. After a few hours of driving the car computer wrote that we have to fill air in the tire. So we did (paying 1$ for that) and the message disappeared. After a few hours the message showed up again. At that point we got to realize there is a problem with the tire. We called to the customer service and explained the problem.

The service lady told us to go to Firestone in order to fix the tire. Surprisingly she told us that we have to pay for that! We have talked to her for 30 minutes explaining that doesn't make any sense. I asked for her manager over and over and eventually I got to talk with a nice lady named Becky. She told me to go to Firestone and Thrifty will pay for that. The next day we went to Firestone and after one hour of driving got there. Then they told us to wait for 2 hours until they fix the tire. And so we found ourselves wasting time until the tire is fixed and missed a trip we have prepaid. That made us lose time and money.

Instead of having the time of our lives in the honeymoon we were stuck in Firestone missing the trip we booked which forced us to stay in state for another night, delaying all our plans for the rest of the honeymoon. We have sent an e-mail explaining all of this to thrifty. After one week (!), we've been told that as long as we have an open contract they cannot do a thing. After we have returned the car we have resend them an e-mail. Then we've been told they will return us 35.74$ an amount that doesn't make sense to us at all. We told them that - didn't get an answer.

I asked for before and after rental proof to substantiate their claim, and all I got from the telephone jockey was a vague claim that yes, they had such. This is impossible, as it would substantiate my claim of "NO DAMAGE CAUSED".

They are obviously confident that a large percentage of their customers will give up the fight and not contest the $514 charge unilaterally placed on their credit card account, making the "Claims" division a profit center for them. Clearly, this is how they choose to do business and I intend to challenge them by requesting a charge-back from my mastercard account, unless Thrifty is able to satisfy Mastercard that the charge is legitimate because the damage was caused within the duration of the rental agreement.. Please, please, please. However much you may be tempted by some circumstance or come-on: DON'T, DON'T, DON'T rent a car from Thrifty. Worst car rental experience I've ever had. I don't know how these guys stay in business. I usually rent with great success from Enterprise, but they wanted what I felt was too much for a one way rental, city to city. So I checked with Thrifty, and they gave me a good price. Hmmm. There's a customer born every minute, as P.T. Barnum used to say.

Thrifty lady on the phone gave me a price of $410 with a reservation for 10 am, the time my flight got in. I quizzed her at least twice on the phone that there would be no extra charges, that $410 would be the final, all-inclusive price. She swore that it was. So I arrive at the airport. Car not ready. "We have your reservation listed as 1 pm - if you would like to upgrade, we can get you a different (and of course more expensive car) now". What? 1 pm? Where did THAT come from? OK, first bait and switch.

I asked for a manager, and they mysteriously 'found' me a car. Then they charged me $560. Yes, folks, I know they swore on the phone that $410 was all-inclusive, but they had some charge, I can't even remember what, that they said had to paid if I were to get the car. It wasn't taxes, it was some sort of damage waiver: they claimed it was something different from the normal damage waiver that my credit card would cover. Whatever it was, if I wanted the car I had to pay it. Second bait and switch. But I had to be somewhere, so I didn't have time to protest further.

Picked the car up, asked for woman to walk around it with me. She said, "Oh, we don't do that. We know there might be a few minor nicks and scrapes, as long as something's not too bad." Two big scrapes on front bumper; currently waiting to see if they charge me with those. Took pictures up front. Returned the car to Charleston, NC. Out of the many, many car rentals that had returns at the airport, Thrifty wasn't one of them. They keep an office about 5 miles away, and run you over to the airport in a shuttle. Fortunately, I made my plane. Got documentation printed that I had returned the car.

5 days after returning home, I got a robo phone call from Thrifty stating that I needed to call them immediately to avoid them reporting the car as stolen. What?? Stolen?? Really?? They left a phone number, which of course stated long waits, heavy call volume, blah, blah, blah. They said it could be handled by email, but the recorded message sounded like someone had marbles in their mouth, and I was unable to decipher the required email address. So I called. And waited. And waited. 15 minutes later, someone answered and in the first 30 seconds somehow disconnected me. I called back from a different phone, and was again disconnected in an even shorter period of time.

You think I'm making this up, but I'm not. I'm done. Hopefully a sheriff won't appear at my door wanting to arrest me for car theft. First and last rental from Thrifty. Do yourself a favor: don't. Whatever catches your attention or sounds attractive about renting from them, trust me: there's a hidden catch. Something will go wrong. You'll waste your valuable time dealing with them. You'll get gray hair. Don't do it.

I was given 3 options: 1) Liability - $3000 hold on my CC ($39 per day), 2) $2500 Deductible - $2500 hold on my CC ($69 per day), 3) Full Coverage - $500 Hold on my CC($89 per day). I stood at the counter arguing why the Expedia ins was no good, why they needed to put a hold on my CC. Finally, the agent told me they used to get commission on these ins sales but no longer got them, but for $50 cash he would put me down for the Full Coverage option for the Liability price and a $500 hold on my CC. I did end up paying the guy cash and he did give me the full coverage. What a scam... and oh, the other couple traveling with us got the same "deal" from their agent.

We rented a car from Thrifty at the Denver International Airport on June 28th, 2015. When we got off the shuttle, we arrived with about 15 other people waiting in line for 1 service representative. It took nearly 30 minutes for them to bring out a second representative. When we got to the front, the representative was clearly untrained and needed to ask his associate several times during the process. When we got to the part where we could decline insurance, he insisted that we needed to purchase the basic insurance and that it was NOT optional. I asked him again for clarification, and he insisted that I was required to purchase this insurance. After a long, grueling day of travel and with about 10 other patrons glaring at the backs of our heads, I had no choice but to agree and move on.

After the trip, I got home to do a little research on the topic, only to discover that no, I did NOT need to purchase the rental insurance because my own car insurance would cover me. I called the Thrifty to complain. I even asked for a supervisor to be sure I was speaking to someone with clout. The gentleman apologized for the wait time, but had no apologies for the service representative who clearly had lied to my face. He told me that if I had read the fine print on my reservation I would have seen that the insurance was optional. It didn't seem to faze him that his associate had clearly contradicted this information to my face. I got the sense this is a common complaint.

When we signed up and they collected our money we were not informed of the wait, only after they took the money we were told there would be a small wait. At 1.30 I still stand here waiting! I find this unethical! At around 1 we were offered a car that smelled of urine and was dirty. I complained and was told to take the car and when I return it I must complain. Upset I argued with the gentleman that it was unfair for me to drive a dirty car. His manager came and said that he could get me another car but could not tell me how long it would take. We missed seeing the Everglades and since we are from South Africa I have no idea when we will be able to take the kids again. We are also traveling with our parents in their 60s!!! I called to get this money put back on my card and was told yes, only for the money one week later not to be put on the card. I have called back and after talking to SIX different RUDE women, keep being told that I won't ever get the money back and should stop calling. I made sure I gave him a Credit card with a limit of $325 so I would not get ripped off... and of course my card got declined... he tried to process $450 on it. I said "why did I made a Reservation if you are going to charge me whatever you want to?" He said I had to have his insurance, even though My car insurance would cover damages.

When we got to the Thrifty/Dollar rental desk, they stated that "their Economy car was a Fiat hatchback and it wouldn't fit our two pieces of luggage" (Our luggage was average sized). I stated that the car I reserved does fit 4 people and our two pieces of luggage. She stated, "Well everyone has a different perception of what two pieces of luggage means." The Fiat barely fit two carry on pieces! She then recommended I rent a mid-sized car. Are you kidding me? For two pieces of luggage and two people? I told her I wanted a Kia Rio or similar, as that is what I reserved. She offered me a Toyota Corolla.

My initial reservation total was 129.00 for 7 days. She ADDED 200.00 for the Toyota Corolla! I was livid! She left me no choice but to accept it, or lose out on the 129.00 for the reservation and have to find another car somewhere else. What was Thrifty/Dollar's response when I contacted them? "Oh well, you signed for it and drove off with it." How can they advertise one thing and offer another when you get there? It is just plain wrong!

On July 4, 2015 I rented a vehicle from the Thrifty Rent A Car at the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport in Sarasota, FL. My family was taking a trip to Alabama and wanted to rent a car so that we would feel more secure on our trip. This experience has been the worst vacation experience ever! I received a great rate with Thrifty with the wild card and was told my car would be a compact or higher. The first vehicle I got was two years old, had over 60,000 miles on it and reeked of cigarette smoke. I returned it within an hour and was given a 2015 Ford Focus. This vehicle had just come back from rental and we took it. Once we arrived in Alabama, my husband noticed that the back passenger tire had a bubble on the side wall. We immediately called roadside assistance so that it could be taken care of without causing a tire blowout.

We were told to put the spare on and drive over an hour away to Montgomery Alabama to pick up a new rental car which would be a compact or better. We arrived at the Thrifty rental car and were told that we had to fill out a damage report and take responsibility for the tire or we would not be given a new car. Being over 7 hours from home, what could we do? We called customer service and were told there was nothing they could do. In my mind, this was extortion. Either sign a damage report taking responsibility for a manufacturer's defect on a tire, or be stranded in Montgomery with no vehicle. We reluctantly signed the paper and were given a car. The car we were given was a Chevy Spark. As posted on your website it clearly shows the Chevy Spark is an economy car.

I complained to the desk but was basically told that was all I was going to get. My husband is 6'2 and 300 pounds. We had three people in our group plus luggage. We literally had to cram into this car. This car was also older and reeked of cigarette smoke. We finally got home and returned the car. I asked to speak with the manager of Thrifty Rent A Car in Sarasota. He was very rude and explained to me it wasn't his problem. I should had fully inspected the tires before I left and hung up on me. Our entire trip has been ruined. Not only was I charged for 5 days of a compact car in which I only received three days with a compact car, I was also charged 60.00 for a tire which was not my fault. I will never rent from Thrifty/Budget again.

When we received the car it was not cleaned well or had Window washer and when I told the person given out cars he just looked at me like I had 2 heads. The day we were to bring the car back since it was a 35-minute ride to the airport I wanted to wait to get gas so the gauge would read full. I had asked my wife to remind me but we both forgot. Well this was a costly mistake since they charged me $10.89 a gallon which came to $73.96 - REALLY. Gas was only $2.55 average a gallon. Charge double even triple but where do you get off charging $10.89 and when I said “I am not paying that price” the attendant smiled and said “You signed here that you would. You should read the fine print.”

That was not bad enough but 6 weeks later I get a letter from Thrifty stating that I when thru 3 tolls - 1 for .51 cents, 1 for .79 cents and 1 for $1.87 with a total of $3.17 but they were charging $15.00 Admin. fee for each 1 so my bill was $48.17. Tell all of your friends this story because I belong to 2 travel groups and I will get up and tell my story in front of each group and I hope it will cost Thrifty thousands in lost business.

Several days later I begin receiving threatening phone calls saying that if I did not return the vehicle it would be reported stolen and the police would be notified. Panicked and confused, I contact the security department and I am assured that it is a glitch in the system and I have nothing to worry about. The phone calls continue and nearly two weeks later, I see a charge to my bank account for $820.32! I contact customer service the next morning because they are not open 24 hours a day. Reservations are, however..

I speak with a horrible woman named Shanai who has the human empathy of an android and a horrible attitude. I am told that my complaint is logged and that it will take 10-14 business days to research my claim. I inform her that this is unacceptable and ask to be transferred to someone else. She says that she is "empowered to handle any customer concern" and will not transfer me to another representative who is "only going to tell (me) the same thing." I then insist on speaking with her supervisor. She tells me that there isn't one but she can log my complaint and a manager will contact me in 3-5 business days.

Frustrated, I hang up and call back to speak with another rep who is more human, who tells me that while my claim is being researched she will go ahead and refund $483.84 back to me, and any remainder at the end of the investigation. That was 3 days ago and I have yet to see any refund at all. My money has been stolen, I have been told to wait. I did everything I was supposed to do and I have been stolen from. This is the worst customer service experience of my life. I should receive a FULL REFUND and Thrifty should be begging me to use them again. I want my money back; every cent of it. Now.

The car I was given had NO CRUISE CONTROL? I got foot cramps driving and the wheels were out of balance. When we returned, I went to the office to tell them I paid for an intermediate car. The supervisor says they can't guarantee cruise control on any car and that you have to request that feature?! They also told me at the rental counter that I had to use their toll plate at $45 per week or get fines with each toll and I had to have it the whole time. I found out I could have gotten my own SunPass locally for much cheaper.

So they overcharged me $90 for their toll plate and overcharged me on the car with no basic cruise control. This was my first time renting with them. I told them so. They didn't care and clearly only want to cheat me out of my money once instead of have me as a return customer. They didn't care even when I told them I won't be using them again. They have unscrupulous business practices. I'll be telling my friends, family and coworkers. I don't know how they stay in business.

The customer service agent argued with me that my signature is on the "LDW (lost damage waiver)" waiver (I even told her the google definition of "waiver"). I said that I waived my right to their insurance. She argued that I need to read what I signed. I told her that it was a busy airport and I have Dyslexia and a special needs boy with me. I trusted that the agent had me sign the correct form and that they hire honest people.

PLEASE, do not rent from Thrifty or Dollar; they are not honest people and beware of "LDW". Next time, I will hold the line up for 1/2 hour to slowly read what I signed and request the agent to babysit my boy while I read the contract; as well as not use Dollar or Thrifty.

Instead I get a bill for $72.85 for 4 violations which were $3.45 X 3 and $2.50 which totals $12.85. Then they added an "Administrative Fee" of $15 per each violations which totals $60. We also asked how we would pay the toll fees if we ended up passing through them on the way home and we were told they would come to us and we would have a chance to pay them before late fees or extra fees were added.

I get they need to pay for them when they come in but I don't it takes an hour to pay them. I'm sure you have a quick way to get them paid so why the high fees? Why do you feel you can charge the renters the ridiculous fees? I will never rent from Thrifty again nor will I ever recommend someone to rent from them. I normally don't complain about things like this nor do I write bad reviews but this is a situation I feel everyone should be aware of so you don't end up paying just as much as you would if you were to rent from Enterprise, Avis or Budget.
