Avoid at all costs. Despite showing proof of insurance and a chat transcript from my insurer confirming my coverage transfers to rentals, I was forced to pay a $20/day “admin fee” for declining their insurance. After paperwork, my kids and I sat in the lobby for over an hour with no communication—only to have an employee point to a car outside as if I should’ve known it was mine. The lobby felt unsafe, with women loitering who appeared to be sex workers, making things extremely uncomfortable.

No one inspected the car with me; it had many dings, and I noted all deep ones. On return, they demanded $500 for a tiny scuff—clearly there at pickup—that could be buffed out easily (photo of $500 “damage” attached). Predatory, unprofessional, and scammy. Never again. I encourage anyone else who has had similar experiences with this company’s predatory and unethical practices to share their story (Google, Yelp, BBB, Trustpilot, ConsumerAffairs, Ripoff Report, ComplaintsBoard, and social media), contact Rent-A-Wreck corporate in Maryland directly to let them know how severely this location is damaging their brand, and if you booked through a site like Expedia, also contact them to report that their system is listing a scam location.

I went to pick up my reserved mini van for 3 days at Orlando Airport location. When I booked it was $54 per day. When I was picking up they told you have to take toll package which was $45 a day. It was difficult pill to swallow but I was stuck so I said fine I will pay. I showed them insurance and declaration page then say said you have to pay $19 per day and after that they said because you don’t have $500k insurance so you have to pay $519 one time fee. Total came to be around $1000 for 3 day rental and one day rental was $54 a day. I yelled at them and asked me to lower down the voice.

How could somebody absorb this kind of scam. I refused to take the rental and instead I Uber next 3 days which cost me total $400 and I was staying in Davenport. Uber was a lot convenient as compared to driving. This is the worst rental company out there and that’s how they fish. They catch the customers with lower rates and they don’t charge at the point once you show up they slaughter you at the counter. I have never written any review for anything but stay away from these **. I have confirmed with other folks and they said this is their business model. I will report them to BBB and they I will be writing reviews everywhere.

If I could put 0 I would, I reserved thru Expedia-Travelocity when I got there they changed the rental fee from $19 to $31, I knew they will charge some fees..but changed all when I went to pick it up. The guy at the counter said it was cause I reserved thru online third party vendor and it was a voucher discount not a real agreement, that is incorrect I reserved and agreed to the fee that it was promoted for, and expedia even gave me additional fees due at tye desk. I have rented cars thru Expedia and others like Priceline it’s not a voucher it’s an online reservation like any other, even with the PR insurance at the most I was expecting total of $600 on average not almost 1k.

Then guy gives me a car dirty, every corner was dirty…when I said I wanted a clean car he started getting into an argument with me, made the comment you get what you pay for. I said almost 1k the least I expect a clean, in good condition economy car. I asked for the manager so they could clean it again…they did but it was still filthy. It was a horrible experience overall and as a ** visiting the island again it’s the worst experience ever. Customer Service was non existent…is embarrassing and very unprofessional.

Upon returning from my trip, I was told I was "over the allowed miles." They charged me over $600 for a car rental that was supposed to cost $55. This is the most corrupt company I have ever dealt with. Please avoid at all costs. Travelocity refunded me the money based on the facts in the actual transaction but these people still got their money. The WORST. Please avoid!

I had a confirmed reservation at Rent-A-Wreck Tampa and the experience was unacceptable from start to finish. The front desk employee was openly unprofessional — he stayed on his phone throughout our interaction, refused to assist me, and ignored a customer service representative who tried to intervene on my behalf. I was denied the rental, despite arriving on time and having paid in advance.

The company has repeatedly refused to acknowledge photographic evidence I submitted — showing the employee on his phone while I stood there trying to be helped. They have not addressed the photo in any of their responses and never reviewed the security footage, which would have supported my claims. Instead, they accused me of making “unsound claims” and trying to exploit them for financial gain. I also verified with my bank that my security deposit was never processed. Yet Rent-A-Wreck continues to deflect, lie, and hide behind policy instead of addressing the actual issue: the unprofessional and disrespectful behavior of their employee.

Rent-A-Wreck failed to: Provide the service I paid for. Acknowledge or respond to submitted photographic evidence. Accept any accountability for the behavior of their staff. Issue a refund or reimbursement for alternate transportation. This company does not understand customer service, professionalism, or responsibility. I would never recommend them and will continue to report this incident publicly until they take accountability.

I’ve called customer service multiple times, and each time I get a different excuse or I’m told “it’s being processed.” It’s clear they have no intention of giving me my money back. This is dishonest and feels like outright theft. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this company. If they can’t manage basic refund practices, what else are they cutting corners on? Total lack of professionalism and accountability. Do yourself a favor and rent elsewhere to avoid frustration and headaches.

I rented from an off site Tampa (4220 West Cayuga St) location through American Express Travel. It was a good price, I read all of the information online before committing. First, the dilapidated shuttle van was 25 minutes late. You cannot reach the site by phone (I tried)! It took almost 20 minutes to get to the location. It was in a poorly lit, unsafe neighborhood. This company strong arms renters into purchasing their extra insurance. It doesn't matter that you have full coverage and can prove it. The employee kept asking for my documents. As it turns out, they want you to show them your policy declarations. WHO/WHAT other car rentals ask for this???

They also force the toll package on renters, and threaten hefty fines if not purchased and a toll is incurred. I refused to rent the vehicle and pay the extra charges. I asked for a ride back to the Tampa airport terminal and was rudely refused. I had to take an Uber and go through the process of renting another vehicle at the terminal. Hopefully, American Express heeded my warning about this company and took them off their travel website. Needless to say, I do not recommend Rent-A-Wreck. I will NOT consider them as an option in the future!

Hi, On March 31, 2025, I rented a car from Orlando, Florida. At that time I was informed that I needed to have insurance from one of six different insurance companies or else I was required to purchase insurance through your company. I showed the agent two websites. The first website was Rent-A-Wreck's website, which stated that a customer needed to bring proof of their own insurance. I was then told that the Orlando website is what I needed to refer to. I then showed the agent the specific Orlando, Florida Rent-A-Wreck website. This website stated the same thing. The Orlando website address link is https://www.rentawreck.com/airport-mco-orlando.html. As you will see, it requires the customer to provide proof of their insurance policy.

After showing both the Rent-A-Wreck website and the specific Orlando, Florida location websites to the agent, I was still told that I had no other choice but to take the insurance. I also showed the agent my personal insurance policy that demonstrated I had insurance coverage. Since I could not get my money back, I had no other choice but to rent the vehicle.

I am now reviewing my credit card statement and see a charge of almost $600 in addition to the over $300 charge for renting the car on March 31, 2025. I was given an email address to send my complaint to, however, that email address doesn't exist. At this point I am extremely disappointed in this company and am doubtful I will hear a response from anyone.

Should have checked here before I rented! I was extremely upset that I was forced to purchase their liability insurance. I have never had another rental car company need to review the specific limits of my policy and then tell me that because I didn't have the maximum value (100k - 300k) of liability insurance, I had to purchase theirs. And when I said I would simply increase my own policy amount, I was told it would have had to have been increased 3 days before. I didn't think to check the website until after I got back, but when I did, I didn't see it listed on the website policy list. In fact the website said nothing about requiring liability, only collision. I ended up having to pay more for the insurance than I did for the rental.

I waited a few days to fill this out in order to remove the emotion from it. This was without a doubt the worst vehicle rental experience I have ever had. Here is a brief summary: It took 2 hours and 45 minutes from the time we arrived to when we left Rent-A-Wreck with our vehicle. Long line to check in, long process where they try to upsell you on all kinds of cost-adds, and another long line to actually get the vehicle. The Expedia rental quote was $310.32 "including all mandatory taxes and fees". The total invoice came to $512.57 not including toll charges, which I did request.

Invoice line items include: Time, mileage, collision damage waiver (which I expressly did not request, as I have and pay for my own insurance, and was told "the car doesn't leave the lot without our insurance on it"), daily tolls (I said yes to this one), vehicle license fee, license recovery fee, customer facility charge, airport conc. recover fee (no idea what this is), state/local tax, municipal tax, road side assistance (which they said was "included"), glass and tire coverage, toll activation (they left that out of the conversation), and preparation fee (I need to pay for them to prepare their car for rental). The car was dirty, there was sticky stuff in the cup holders and other surfaces, and a light was on indicating oil change overdue. Scuffs and damage to the outside of the vehicle, which we took photos of.

Returning the car was much quicker but still markedly slower than any other company I've rented from. We drove the car into the return lane, waited while an employee came out and asked us if we were good, asked us for the paperwork, which we provided, then handed it to us and told us to bring it into the front desk to check the car in.

We waited in line to do this, at which point the manager asked us if the car was inspected. I did not know what she meant, she got annoyed and asked if one of her employees had looked at the car when we brought it in. We said yes. I asked about the aforementioned charges and was told they are all mandatory and there was nothing she could do. I sent five live chat requests through the Rent-A-Wreck website and never get connected with an agent. I called the help line three times, spent 40 minutes on hold, and was transferred back and forth between different departments without a solution. If you are visiting San Juan, I would strongly advise not to rent from Rent-A-Wreck, Priceless, Allied, or any of the other associated car rental companies on that strip. Stick with the agencies at the airport if at all possible.

What I didn't know was the price for insurance 35$ per day....which is prohibitive. I think that the insurance is a very good profit center for this company, more the the car location. As it was a road trip in Florida, it was ok for me for 15$ per day for the Sun Pass. The car wasn't really a wreck, 50K miles for a Toyota is not a lot. However, I think that the company should change this name for: Rent a Wreck from a wreck company....because of prohibitive prices. from 160.00 to 1053.00 is a too too too huge difference.

I rented a car through Rent-A-Wreck this past August while visiting Iceland. I could tell that the brakes were a bit worn as soon as I got on the road heading out of Reykjavik, but didn’t think much of that at the time. Later in the trip, after I’d put on a few hundred miles, I noticed the brakes seemed to take longer to react and that there was a high-pitched noise when I applied pressure to the brake pedal. I took the car into a mechanic’s shop in Ólafsfjörður where the an initial diagnosis of worn brake rotors was given.

When the mechanic removed the rear tires, she saw that the two rear rotors were both heavily worn and rusted. The shop didn’t have the necessary parts to change out the rotors, so I had to go back from the direction I’d come, to Akureyri, in order to have the rotors changed out. The mechanic’s shop stayed open an extra two hours just for this job, at the behest of Rent-A-Wreck. While I appreciate Rent-A-Wreck finding an available mechanic and covering the maintenance, it would have been great to depart from the rental agency in Reykjavik with a more well-maintained vehicle. On top of that, I was forced to pay $1800 for a scratch under the front bumper at the end of the trip, which seemed quite high just for a repair. Guess next time I’ll be getting the full insurance package.... with a different rental agency.

I rented from NEXT Car Rental, however I was sent to a totally different place to get the car. A place call Seatac Rent-A-Wreck. This business should not be operating in any of the 50 States. It is a fraud and a scam. They impersonate as a Car Rental Company, but they aren't. If I had just known what I knew when I dropped their car off on the 24th of December, I would not have gone to pick up the Car. Mind you, I had already paid and rented the car online with NEXT Car Rental couple of weeks earlier. What I experienced when I dropped the car off was mind-boggling and straight-up criminal in nature. The Seatac Police department should go over them and shut them down. Rent-A-Wreck is a criminal enterprise.

As I said when I took their car back, A customer was complaining and disputing with them that they (Rent-A-Wreck) intentionally stripped and put a mark on the car, however accused the customer of damaging their car just so that they do not reimburse the customer for the Security deposit that they illegally took from the customer and then file a claim with the customer insurance company claiming that the customer damaged their car. The customer personally told me to never return their (Rent-A-Wreck car after business hours because they will do things to the car and claimed that you damaged their car. They charged me a security deposit of $250 that was nowhere indicated on the Next Car Rental Contract.

Today is the 6th of January and I still have not received my Security. I rented the Car for 1 day but they still charge me for 3 days rental. They have bunch of criminals that work at that location. Especially this bad English-speaking Ethiopian who is a straight liar, thief, fraud and Con-Artist. I do not recommend anyone going to rent a car from these criminals.

I normally don’t write negative reviews but if my experience saves one person it will make me happy. I wish I could give them negative stars! Booked online by accident! Make sure you don’t make the same mistake I did. You get what you pay for. That being said trying to contact the free shuttle service was an absolute nightmare. Literally called 5 times the number that was listed on the instructions to pick up the car. NO ONE ANSWERED. Called every extension listed on the automatic recording (which was super hard to even understand because the music they have playing over the recording is super loud). Guy sitting on the bench next to me same issue. He called 7 times. No answer… and then the call disconnects.

Thankfully the airport traffic director helped us and called a guy to get the shuttle bus to pick us up. Took us a mile down the road to what looked like a mobile trailer from the movie Snatch. Went inside, smelled like someone just dropped a deuce in the toilet and very strong cleaning products. They had a sign you had to use your own auto insurance and be insured for $500,000. They only accept certain insurance companies. Had to email the guy at the desk my insurance declaration page. Then he explained the easy pass. Said he had to charge me a $500 hold/deposit but I would get it back once I returned the car. He went to charge me $500.00 without me seeing a contract or any kind of agreement to sign. I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I tried my best to give them the benefit of the doubt but couldn’t at this point. Me and the other guy I met having the same issue trying to rent a car, said nope and Ubered back to the airport to get a rental car from a reputable company. I should have went with my instincts when no one answered the phone. Positive was the guy at the desk was nice but there is something not right here….

All I needed was to have a Florida driver's license and a credit card (and I had both items). There was no notification that I had to show my permanent residency papers. Another deceptive information was the limited vs unlimited mileage. I rented a car with unlimited mileage, and I was permitted to do so once I went to pick it. I had to pay an additional charge per day. They were charging me for limited mileage, for the tolls, and additional insurance aside from the one I had made in the reservation.

From the original daily price, they kept adding charges that were unjustified. I could not afford their rental, nevertheless they still charge $60.00 me for not cancelling the car on time. Their information online is a farse, incorrect, inaccurate. This company is truly a wreck. I do not recommend this car rental company to any person.

Absolutely the worst experience in renting a car. We reserved an SUV, only to be told when we got there, that they didn't have one. The online reservation total bears no resemblance to the actual costs charged. Approximately 500.00 more dollars in undisclosed costs and fees. No mention of those until the time of pickup. 3 weeks later another charge of 40.00 to clean the car. It was spotless when it was returned. I even shook out the floor mats. Every single cost of them doing business was passed on to the customer in the form of some fee. Definitely a prime example of a "bait and switch" operation.

I have my own Sunpass for tolls but was told I could not use it because they have built in Sunpasses in the car, so you are forced to pay the $14.99 per day for the toll pass. When I arrived, I saw the sign on the counter that you are required to have $500k liability insurance which I was hoping to decline. In 25 years of renting cars I've never had to purchase additional insurance. My Geico insurance was always good enough. The lady proceeded to look through my insurance card with a fine comb and even asked me to download the app so she can further investigate the insurance details. Then she stated that I can either cancel the reservation or purchase their insurance at $30 a day (almost $1k a month). The car was now $250 for the week. I had to be at work in an hour so I purchased it although they were forcing me to do it. I would never rent from these fraudsters again in a million years.

Worst experience in my nearly 20 year experience renting cars. First they get you in with a low price and then tack on outrageous fees and “taxes,” coupled with their overpriced insurance. Next, they rent you trash, salvaged cars. I had the car for 2 days, it’s start jerking, it squeaked really bad when I made turns, and the check engine light came on. I had only driven about 200 miles.

I was told to bring the car in, don’t worry about the gas. I did exactly that and when I did, the “owner” insisted that I go fill up the car. When I refused, he threatened to cancel my entire contract and charge me for gas. Then refunded only half of my money. I only wanted to swap cars but he insisted on giving me a hard time about the gas being full. I ultimately got part of my money back. The rest I’m disputing with my credit card company. This place is terrible and a joke.

They use predatory tactics to extract money from renters after rentals have been returned. I rented a car from here in May of 2022, and returned it without any visible damage. I received a claim from them asking for $1459.79 in damages, $385 in "loss of use", and an $150 administration fee. $1993.79 in total. They refused to send me a picture of the supposed damages.

The claims agency they go through was able to provide me a picture of the damage, which was a scratch on the *underside* of the front bumper. (Before dropping the car off, I had run my hand along the underside and did not feel anything there, but did not go through the trouble of lying down on the ground to visually inspect it.) According to them, rather than paint and refinish the scratch, the repair that needed to be done was to replace the entire bumper. When I looked up the shop that had given the estimate, it was one located at the exact same address as Rent A Wreck. Meaning that Rent-A-Wreck themselves were the ones giving the estimate. I asked for more details about how they had come to that number, and a few weeks later, the claims agency came back with a repair cost of only $500 (my deductible for my car insurance). But still the same amount in "loss of use" and the admin fee.

I asked for proof that they had even had the bumper replaced, since the scratch was entirely superficial and not visible unless the car was up on a lift. The claims agency was unable to provide this, but offered to waive the admin fee and reduce the "loss of use" amount as well. (Which makes me think it's possible the car never had its bumper replaced at all, but obviously I don't have proof of that.)

This was an expensive lesson to learn not to rent from this company, and I'm hoping to save someone else the same trouble. If you're already in the same situation as me and finding all these bad reviews just now - don't just pay the full amount, contact the claims management company to get more details. Be polite and understanding - it's not their fault this company has predatory tactics. It may take several months of phone calls, but they may be able to help you out.

On April 6 I reserved a car through Expedia from Rent-A-Wreck of Philadelphia Intl Airport. On the day of my trip, April 9, during my layover, I noticed an email in my SPAM folder from alternativeracnj@gmail.com (a random gmail account, NOT a Rent A Wreck or any corporate email account) claiming to be Rent-A-Wreck PHL and asking for credit card information and a photo of my driver’s license. This email did not list the reservation number, had grammatical errors and odd formatting, and looked just like a typical phishing scam.

If I sent you an email like that from my gmail account claiming to be your bank and I asked for your credit card information and photo of your driver's license, would you respond to it? But I called the Rent A Wreck phone number shown on the Expedia reservation to make sure everything was OK and was told that my reservation was canceled because I didn't respond in time to that shady email in my SPAM folder. Now I was left with no rental car on arrival.

I've rented cars dozens of times and never once had to reply to a random email with my credit card info *after* I had already reserved and *paid* online. The woman at Rent-A-Wreck I spoke with that day said she would at least refund my payment. But I just got the credit card bill later and the full rental charge is *still there*, even though their own rental policy lists $50 for late cancellation! I called Rent-A-Wreck PHL again to ask for a refund and was told they would *not* issue a refund and that the woman who told me that on the 9th no longer worked there. I suppose they feel they are not beholden to a former employee’s promises, nor to basic fairness for that matter.

They set unreasonable expectations for customers that no other rental agencies set by expecting them to respond to emails from a shady random account that could end up in a SPAM folder. They violated their own policies by charging the full rental fee instead of the stated $50 cancellation fee. They were completely dismissive in their interactions with me. The same people run Alternative Rent A Car of New Jersey. Avoid these businesses at all costs.

Be aware of this company and stay away at all costs. I wish I would have seriously listened to the reviewers below and paid a little extra money for a rental car at a reputable rental company. Now I understand why their cars are so cheap and literally "wrecks." This business and the individuals working here are unethical and unprofessional. When I picked up the first car, it was scratched, dented, and had a dirty interior. The oil light came on the same day I rented it and I had to take time out of work the next day to get a new one! The new car was even worse! Again, dirty, scratched, dented, and in poor condition. Dawn does an extensive walk around and takes multiple photos and videos on her phone.

Mind you, the car is in poor condition to begin with so I don't understand the point of her taking videos. I now understand that this is so they can charge you for normal wear and tear when you return the car (as per other reviewers). Two months into my rental I had to take the car in to be fixed because a plastic piece was falling off near the bumper and they blamed it on me! Throughout the time I had the car, it was so squeaky and made a horrible buzzing sound whenever I went over 20 mph. I called and emailed Dawn several times to get another replacement car, but she either ignored my request or told me she didn't have any cars available. My dad recently came to visit me and noticed he could barely see out of the rearview window because it was so dark and tinted.

The car didn't have window shield wipers on the rearview window. He wondered how I've been driving with these issues because the tinting makes it so hard to see out of, not to mention extremely dangerous. Finally, because they are closed on Sundays and my car is due on a Sunday, they want me to leave the car in a random parking lot and take an extensive video of it so I can prove I didn't damage anything during the time I rented it. I've never had to do this with other rental car companies or Zipcar. This company is ridiculous and money is the number one priority for them!

Finally, I was pulled over and my car was towed because they didn't bother to update the stickers on the license plate. They made ME pay for the tow and demanded to see my ticket, which I sent them. Dawn told me she didn't put the new sticker on because people "steal them." They have yet to refund me for the towing. I only put up with this company for months because I was working 7 days a week and had little free time. I didn't have the energy to argue back and forth with them and keep on getting replacement cars just to have to return the car and get a new one.

I feel that it's extremely unfair that RENT-A-WRECK in Erie, Pennsylvania charged me a $13 fee on top of the minimal $4.50 charge (from the State) for going through an E-Z PASS toll booth which was a newly implemented CASHLESS TOLL booth on the PA turnpike. According to PAturnpike.com, "Motorists will not longer pay with cash on roadway and tolls will be billed through the mail." Therefore, there was no way for me to pay with cash at the tollbooth (because no attendants are there). The only way to be billed is by PA Turnpike TOLL BY PLATE which was billed to Rent-A-Wreck for the amount of $4.50.

The total Rent-A-Wreck charged me was actually $17.49- so either they charged me $13 fee or there was tax. Ashley did not offer any courtesy and simply said to "See attached contract" which reads: "You are responsible for payment of tolls, parking or traffic citations, fees, fines, violations and/or penalties (each referred to as "Infraction") and authorize RENT-A-WRECK to release your payment info to a Processor for the billing of "Infractions," plus a processing fee of up to $50 for EACH of the "Citations" incurred during this rental." So, apparently going through a CASHLESS TOLL is considered an "Infraction" to them and they can bill me up to $50 EACH time I go through a CASHLESS toll booth? That doesn't make sense to me and seems very unfair.

They charged my credit card anyways, so why do they have to tack on a fee? Additionally, they only give you 100 miles per day and charge 0.19 cents a mile. We had to rent the car to pick me up from the Cleveland Airport. The car with a dirty old Chevy Malibu (maybe 2010?) with stained seats and smelled like smoke, you would think they would cut me a break with the sub-par quality car. Anywho, I thought they were nice at first when making reservation, but come to find out these additional charges, I will go with Enterprise from now on. I advise you to NOT use Rent-A-Wreck if you plan on driving on the interstate. If this fee is refunded I will change my review; however, I do not see that happening.

I used Rent-A-Wreck Seattle in April 2019. It was a weekend trip to one of Puget Sound islands and my total mileage was about 100 miles for a 3 day trip. It was easy drive via I 5 and once I arrived my destination, I did not drive the car at all. So I was shocked when I got an email from Rent-A-Wreck on Monday morning, the car I drove has a damage and I am responsible for the cost of the repair. They even pointed out I do not have to worry, because my insurance would pay for it. I replied back to the email and asked for a detailed description of the damage and pictures.

Once I disputed in a very polite manner, they changed the tone stating that why I did not take pictures if I thought I did not cause the damage. I remembered there was a poster on the office door, the instruction for weekend returning customers. It asked us to make sure to drop off the key and do not forget personal belongings. Then stated that picture taken is optional. And I also remembered that I was a bit panicked, I did not know they close on weekends, and I could not find the instruction or the mailbox to return the key. I text and emailed them asking instructions and told them that I had to go, and must catch the flight.

Anyways, once I asked more information, they stopped contacting me. I attempted to follow up with them twice via email. But I never got a response. Next, I got new claim order from my insurance company for the car. My Agent advised me there was an identifiable but very minor damage and the picture was taken on Monday morning. The agent said, it is a hardly recognizable damage on the front passenger side bumper, it happens sometimes when you park to close to a parking curb, it will cost only $ 160 plus, and the agent said they can take care of it. So I decided to approve the claim.

Meantime my deposit of $ 201 (even though I paid in full in advance, they requested to pay) was never refunded. I disputed it via my bank, but I lost it, because they provided my signed the contract and the damage reports. I thought it was over at last but I was too optimistic. I received a debt invoice from a debt collection company stating that I owe $ 884.53 for Rent-A-Wreck for 1. anticipated loss of use, 2. diminution in value and 3. administrative fee. I cannot believe it. I am going to consult with my lawyer. Please Please if you are reading this. Avoid going there. Rent-A-Wreck is a NIGHTMARE!!!

I booked a full-size car on April 16, 2018 for my vacation with my Family at Seattle between June 20 and June 27, 2018 and paid the full amount at the time of reservation. I was promised Hyundai Sonata or an equivalent full-size car. When I went to pick up the rental car at their facility, I was offered Toyota Yaris IA which is not full-size. Since I had planned my vacation with my family many months in advance, I agreed to pick up this car as I did not want to make my family wait at the airport indefinitely and travel to the other rental car companies’ facilities for the car we wanted. There was no time to negotiate with Rent-A-Wreck staff for not honoring the reservation. I inspected the car like any customer who is in dire need of a car or a vacation traveler would do. There were few scrapes, dents on the front, side and rear that I noticed and reported to them. This was the first shock and the unpleasant experience I had with Rent-A-Wreck.

Secondly on the same day, they asked me to deposit $100 in spite of this being a prepaid reservation and said this would be just kept on hold until I return my car. But after a couple of days, this transaction was posted to my account. Thirdly, on the day when I returned the car (06/27/2018) I had to go through even more awful experience. I think the staff’s name was Chris and he said there were a couple of scrapes and dents on the front, rear door driver side. He understood my urgency to catch the flight with my family and made me sign a declaration form to claim these damages. In the checkout invoice handed off to me, there were no clear information of the damages on the car.

This was also a PERFECT opportunity to keep my $100 deposit. He did not refund this back to my account. Finally, after a month or two I received a call from my auto insurance company that they’re claiming damages worth $4000. This is insane as they did not report any damages worth $4k to me at the time of checkout. Even while they inspected at the time of drop off, they could find only minor dents, scrapes which I wasn’t responsible for. Is the customer’s Insurance company a profit center for them? I have never witnessed such awful customer service in my life. It was more unpleasant experience with them. This place is a scam! Their business is shady. I would advise the other customers not to fall in their trap. Beware of Rent-A-Wreck Seattle!

In May, I went in Island for 10 days with my boyfriend and we had a terrible experience with Rent-A-Wreck! They first gave us a car that was still dirty from the last customers (who also apparently filled the car with diesel). So it was indeed a wreck... Not knowing what to expect from car rental services in Island we accepted it grudgingly. As a start, we had to fill the tank with our own money because it was half empty. We spoke about it with the rental guy and he wrote an agreement on the rental contract so it seemed fine. However, at the gas station, we realised that some lights didn't work. So we called Rent-A-Wreck and asked for another car, a reliable one!

They said that they didn't have any car available from the airport but that we could drive all the way to Reykjavik and they would arrange something there. So we started driving to Reykjavik. After 15 minutes drive they called us telling us to drive back at the airport because they found a solution. They did find another car but they actually made an arrangement with another car rental company. However, they wanted us to pay again for this new car and expected us to sign a random refund paper written by hands for what we paid for the first car. We refused outright and negotiated to finally get a car without making a new payment.

After that episode everything went right with this second car. Yet we still had issue with the company because they were supposed to give us our money back for the gas we put in the first car. We called them many times during our holidays, but it was always very fuzzy and they never gave us a concrete answer. So then, we sent them an email with a copy of the paper the guy signed that said that they had to make a refund. They asked for our bank details even though they already had all this, so it seemed they just tried to win some time. As of today's date, we still haven't seen our money back and we lost loads of time because of their messed-up services. Rent-A-Wreck is a truly dishonest company. I don't recommend it!

The third and final car was so filthy, the new name is Rent A Disgusting Wreck. Tenisha, refused to even come outside with a cloth and wipe down the inside. I reserved a car in Seattle. Chris, the "customer service agent" was the rudest jerk I have ever dealt with in my life as a consumer! The car they gave me had a huge crack in the windshield, it smelled badly, and was filthy inside and out. Even though I had a reservation I had to wait 2 hours before anyone brought back a car for me to drive. As I was driving to my hotel the car died twice, so I brought it back the next day, ruining all of my business plans for that day.

Chris was there and was not apologetic at ALL. It is difficult to get across just how rude he was to me, like renting me this malfunctioning car was my fault. He even yelled at me. He wouldn't give me a different car! Someone brought in a manual transmission car and he grudgingly let me have it after quite some time, only because no one else could drive it. I had just filled the returned car with gas and had to fill this new one with gas-- what a waste of money and time. I have never witnessed such awful customer service in my life! Rent-A-Wreck obviously does not stand behind their cars, and the customer has no rights. I will never rent from this company again.

I rented a car from them that was dented completely around the outside of the car. The inside of the car smelled horrible & the cloth seats were stained, floor needed to be vacuumed. A hour after driving the car it started to have mechanical issues. I called the Glen Burnie, MD office where I picked the car up from. The man that I spoke with started yelling at me about the issue. Which was that the car was overheating, a red light came on & the thermostat kept jumping to hot & back down to cool. Me & this man was on the phone arguing & I threatened to call the BBB.

He then let me speak to the manager who told me the car just needed a coolant. I told him that it was not my responsibility to do any maintenance on their car. He then told me to go to a gas station & wait for 1.5 hours for him to come bring me another car. I told him no I would not do that. We then agreed for him to meet me at my home. The new car that he gave me had the same disgusting look & smell on the inside...

That car also had a coolant issue. I bought a coolant myself because I needed to get back & forth from work. And had no other transportation options. I was scared to turn on the A/C. I sprayed the cloth seats with Febreze & put air fresheners inside of the car. Nothing worked to kill that horrific smell. This place was a cheap option... NEVER AGAIN... I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Oh yea I forgot, I went to their bathroom & there was NO RUNNING WATER in the sink. How do they wash their hands? They just leave out & shake customers' hands knowing they haven’t washed them after wiping their **!

What? They said they would as a “courtesy” let me use it as a credit for a future rental. Problem is, this trip was for a specific purpose and I have no plans to go to Newark. These are deceptive practices. No one should be expected to pay for something that was not provided. All I can say is...Believe all of the negative reviews and stay far, far away from this place. I rented a car with them and they gave me way, way OLD car and its door was not functioning and I was not able to open door/get into the car itself and it was 11 PM night time. And no one was there to answer my questions. When I call them, they did not receive and finally I had to take Uber and they ruined my whole week plans. I called them 10 times and left VM over Saturday, Sunday, but they did not call me on Monday. I only had to call them that "I did not use your service as car was garbage and door was not functioning," and they were not at all feeling bad about this. They said "but we were able to open the door," then I said "I have a video of the car condition" then they said "we don't care. We were able to open the door."

Then I asked my credit card company to file dispute, and when credit card company call them, that said, they tried to reach me many time but I did not reply him. That was biggest lies. I am not sure what to write for this company. Please see attachment for the CAR they gave me. It might look good in picture but in real it was worst than worst and the door condition. And when we call they are saying nothing is wrong with door.

I explained that I was driving, but that I had some questions, and asked if he could explain what the insurance would provide? He told me that the forms are "self-explanatory" insisting that he is very busy but told me I was not interested in reading them. I reminded him that it was his job to explain his forms to me because I am unsure what the liability coverage is for. He said that it was "my job to drive one of his cars". Then he corrected himself and said, actually it was a "privilege" to be driving one of his cars. I told him it was a privilege to have a license to drive, but unsure why he was telling me that it was my job or my privilege to drive his Rent-A-Wreck car? His customer service skills were horrendous and he was extremely argumentative!

I was not asking him neurosurgery advice, I was asking him to relay to me what was covered. He must have felt really out of place being asked and was abrasive, arrogant, rude, and condescending. He called me, and he is what I had to deal with for answering the call from Rent-A-Wreck? I told him this was my first experience renting from this company and still could not answer my very "self-explanatory" question. Now, I do not know that I can trust them when I have to pick up my car tomorrow and it is too late to get my money back fully refunded. I will never do business with Rent-A-Wreck again! MECHANICALLY UNSAFE, which was not apparent until either freeway speeds were reached or it was raining (significant pull to the left, brakes were sketchy when wet, wipers were so BAD I had to find a place to pull off and have them replaced); ILLEGAL TO DRIVE (the windshield was cracked which they assured me was not illegal, but when I checked with a former WA cop was assured I could be stopped and issued a ticket for the offense); The driver's side had a BROKEN WINDOW that got stuck in the down position and once I was able to raise it again I could not use it (making drive through situations interesting); and it was a SMOKE FILLED mess.

I don't care what the car looks like. I accepted the 167K dented mess (considering the name, I knew what I was getting into). But when I asked for another car I was told this was the last one. When I called another franchise after being on the road for thirty minutes and starting to realize the list of issues, I was told they couldn't fix it either. The final straw was when it started to pour on my way back north from Oregon and the brakes got wonky and I had to pull off and replace the wipers. I was on my way back to SeaTac. Was I supposed to pull off the freeway in the pouring rain and hope some person from this franchise was going to drive down and pick me up??? I was just told I should have brought the car back when I discovered the problems. So their argument was I was supposed to test drive the car, in the rain, before accepting it?? The website says the cars will be "safe". That is a total lie.

Not only will I never use this franchise again EVER. But the corporation has lost my business for life. It took over a week for corporate to finally contact me to tell me it was my fault I wasn't getting even a partial refund. The local franchise still hasn't had the guts or decency to respond to me. It's been over three weeks since I returned the car with a two-page letter detailing my concerns. I almost put my kids into this car without knowing what I was stepping into. This must stop before someone is killed.

Actually, consider this a ZERO star review. I flew across country for a very important job interview. Since it was a quick stay (1 day), and last minute, I booked with RAW: they were the only ones that had the availability I needed. The two year old Nissan I was given looked great, but the A/C didn't work. They offered to fix it, but as I was on a strict time frame I couldn't wait, so opted to drive the no A/C vehicle. All was great until after I checked into my hotel, then went to grab a quick lunch. The car refused to start. After about 10 minutes of trying, it finally came to life. I had RAW on the phone and was told there "isn't anything wrong with the car" and "the lady that just brought it back didn't complain," and "just drive it." So... I stop for lunch and guess what, the car doesn't start again. Another call to RAW: I told them to bring me a new car as I needed something reliable to get me to the interview.

The gentleman on the line said maybe I "could get a jump from someone," but they couldn't drive the 36 miles to bring me a working vehicle. He suggested the problem might be the engine kill switch and to keep trying. I spent 30 minutes in the heat before it finally started. However, that luck didn't last long enough to get me to my interview on time! I was stuck on the side of the road, in the middle of the desert at noon (in a black dress suit), praying that a cab would come out that far. Though I got a cab in the desert (for an additional $40), I was late to the interview. Rent-A-Wreck apologized profusely telling me they were on the way with a different car, that a wrecker would pick up the original, and RAW would refund ALL my money. It's a week later, and of the $123.10 I paid for a one day rental, I've received a refund for $49. They assessed me a $72 surcharge (!!!) for using 1/2 gallon of gasoline. When they say RENT-A-WRECK, they're not joking.

Rent-a-Wreck's website states: "We keep our fleet of cars, trucks, and vans clean and well-maintained; they are far from wrecks! Our vehicles are more like the cars you drive everyday." My car, however, was in fact an absolute wreck. To list just a few of its deficiencies: trunk was broken and would not open; interior reeked of mildew and the sun visors overhead light, and vent covers had been ripped out; turn signal did not work; tires were noticeably under-inflated and car could not be safely driven over 55 mph (one tire eventually went entirely flat); headlights were so clouded that driving at night was unsafe.

Clearly this is not an everyday used car. Renting a car of this deplorable condition is not only deceitful and unprofessional, but due to the risk to my safety and life, also seriously unethical and a huge legal and financial liability to Rent-a-Wreck. (What would have happened if I have been in an accident caused by the broken turn signal or under-inflated tires?) To say I am appalled and furious with Rent-a-Wreck is an understatement. On a trip to New York with the family, we decided to rent a 6-passenger van from Rent-A-Wreck in Newark NJ. When a shuttle bus brought us to a parking lot to pick up the vehicle, I was shown the vehicle I was expected to drive off the lot with my family in tow. This is where everything went south very quickly. The vehicle was rundown. Trim missing from the bumper (front and rear), nasty sagging seats that were uncomfortable just to look at and generally looking like it was driven for some time in a third-world country before being retired to Rent-A-Wreck in Newark, NJ. There was NO WAY I was going to pay $694.48 for what was literally a wreck and put my family through that.

I was given a number to call and spoke to a girl about my concerns. She put me on hold and got back to me after speaking to her boss. The option I was given was to take this vehicle for four days and return on Wednesday for a better vehicle. I explained that I was headed to Warwick, NY and that returning four days later to pick up a better vehicle was out of the question. I asked to speak to her boss. He or she never called me back. Subsequently I rented an Infinity SUV from Hertz as soon as I left that lot for about 75.00 less.

The face sheet of their used car rental and leasing states, "In the event that a van is not available due to circumstances beyond our control, we agree to refund your money back in full." That never happened and I am currently two months later going on round 2 of trying to get my credit card issuer to settle this matter. I live in Arizona and just happened to check the local Rent-A-Wreck website. The images of the vehicles are not even close to representing what I was supposed to drive my family around the state of New York for a week.

Please do not rent a vehicle from this franchise location based on the images on the internet. You will have your trip ruined, lose your money and have a very frustrating experience with people that have no business sense regarding customer satisfaction. Do yourself a big favor and shop around and deal with a reputable company who stands behind their product with pride. Sign up for all the rental company membership cards and get their discounts on rentals. If you want to drive a vehicle that looks like it just returned from the ISIS fleet of war vehicles, then Rent-A-Wreck in Newark, NJ is the place for you. But PLEASE, leave your family home.

In the spring of 2015 I reserved a minivan from Rent-A-Wreck. Soon after making the reservation I was contacted by a customer service rep. telling me that if I didn't want to get one of their old cars I would have to pay an additional $200. I declined. A little while later the rep called me back and said she would have to cancel the reservation because I was not willing to pay the extra $200. She said this was a policy dictated by the head office. I told her I expected to get the best car available at the price quoted in the reservation. I checked the Rent-A-Wreck website at that time and could not find any mention of different pricing for different aged vehicles and the same vehicle for the same time was still available for the same price.

True to her word, the vehicle we received was in horrible shape. The car had over 200,000 miles on it with major dents on all sides of the vehicle and duct tape on the side window. The tires were so bald that at one point while driving up a straight not-very-steep hill on a major highway the tires started to skid out. The dirtiness and smell of the interior was truly disgusting. We had to air out the car before we could even get in. The car had not been vacuumed or cleaned and had less than half a tank of gas. We also had to pay a parking fee to a third party when we picked up the car. While using the car it died and we had to call for roadside assistance to get a jump start. The battery had not been installed properly and we spent a day of our trip finding a mechanic and getting the electrical system looked at as well as one of the tires repaired. This resulted in us having to book an additional hotel since we could not make it to the hotel we had planned to stay in.

While we were dealing with getting the vehicle repaired the customer service rep at the Rent-A-Wreck head office insisted he would take care of us. When the repairs were complete and I asked for compensation for costs associated with dealing the repair of the vehicle he said he wouldn't be able to help us and immediately his phone started cutting out and went dead and I never heard from him again. I tried emailing him the receipts for costs but never received a response. I also emailed my request for compensation to the office I rented the vehicle from and never received a response.

WHAT A MISTAKE. I do not even know where to start. I made reservations to rent a minivan from the Rent-A-Wreck car rental company. I called and confirmed my car rental 3 (three) days in advance. I also called and asked questions, and the night before, I called again just to double check. When I came to pick up the car (on time at 2 p.m.) I was informed that they did not have the car. I was there left without a car, planned and scheduled to leave to South Carolina in one hour. Not one person seemed to care. This was on Friday, July 31 of 2015. The staff is so unprofessional and unfortunately very ignorant. No word of sympathy, or "We apologize." All they wanted for me to do is to leave.

I am a business owner myself. The way they operate this location is embarrassing and something should be done about it. I was not willing to leave, and please believe me I kept my cool and professionalism to the end. No change of tone on my behalf. Believe me, I wanted to scream, but the people working there would ignore that too. The girl that was assisting me was on her phone playing a game and answering to her personal text messages. I requested to speak to a manager. When he came out of his office same ignorant reaction, following with the words "Someone did not return the car that we had reserved for you" Well, "Thanks a lot." Maybe, just maybe someone could have called to let me know.

I was advised to drive to Midway Airport to rent a car and they would reimburse the difference. Just imagine it is already an hour later and I am stuck in traffic going to the airport to rent a car. At the airport, going from one rental company to the other, standing in lines, finding out that they do not accept walk-ins.

Finally at the 6th or 7th rental company after 1.5 additional hours I rent a small SUV. The total price for our rental $1,700.00 compared to the $700.00 that I was supposed to pay at Rent-A-Wreck.

I called before I finalize this transaction just to make sure Rent-A-Wreck would cover the difference. I was assured by the young lady working with me at the Rent-A-Wreck that they would. I took the SUV. Had to call one of my employees to come with another person to pick up my personal vehicle from the airport.

On my way home I stopped by Rent-A-Wreck to give them the bill. With what I went through already there was no trust left. I went in and gave them the paperwork on the SUV car rental. She (the very same person that guaranteed that the Rent-A-Wreck would cover the difference) called the manager. He looked at the $1,000.00 difference and told me that they can only pay $490. I would pay for taxes, everyone has to pay that, and the $1,000.00 difference would have to be covered by me.

I thought that I was going to cry. I told them that I had no choice but to return the car to the airport and end up without a car. I went to the airport and returned the SUV. I was charged a $130.00 fee for renting the SUV and returning it after only an hour. After sitting in the Rent-A-Wreck office I listened to conversations that employees there had with other clients. All were complaining, and all were ignored and treated with no respect. This company should have their license taken away. NEVER AGAIN. At the end I ended up with a 15 passenger van (made reservations for a 7 passenger minivan) there were 6 people traveling with us. The gas expense was out the roof.

I had already bought an alternator and was quoted 2 hours of labor. Instead he replaces my battery and tells me that my alternator was fine...and hit me with a bill that was 235$. Not fair, I could have changed my battery for way cheaper. But I could not change the alternator because it was on the bottom and back of my engine...and now here we are 1 week later and my alternator is acting up again.

I needed to rent a car for Christmas Day at Newark Airport and upon only finding very expensive car rentals was planning on canceling our reservation for a cabin in the Hudson Valley as the car was going to cost as much as the cabin. That is until we came across Rent-A-Wreck searching for car rentals on Kayak. We booked a car for 200 dollars which was advertised on Kayak and significantly cheaper than the other rental companies.

Two days later I get an email from Rent-A-Wreck saying "We do not have any vehicles available for the time period you are looking for, nothing has been charged to your credit card. Our website was blocked at the time period you made the reservation because we were sold out, there was a glitch that allowed you to make the reservation. We apologize in advance but have no availability for Christmas day as we will also be closed."

So I check Kayak and turns out the 'glitch' is completely made up. I can still book cars on Rent-A-Wreck for the same price and same days. Not only do they advertise cars that are not present they advertise being open on days they are not. Now it is too late to cancel our cabin reservation and we are booking a car for 400 dollars from somewhere else. Rent-A-Wreck needs to stop falsely advertising cars that are not there on days they are not open on Kayak, which is a major hotel/flight/car rental purveyor. It is completely unacceptable they do not provide correct information and booking thru Kayak. This also extends to their website as Kayak forwards you to their website and that is where you complete the booking.

I rented from Rent A Wreck to pick up a car at Newark Airport. I was told I would receive confirmation that day of renting online, however it didn't come until I had just boarded the plane for Newark. I had called them repeatedly the night before as well as that morning but they just said it was coming. I couldn't get it up on my phone, so I called them and they told me to not worry the car would be waiting. I ordered a sub-compact car, as it's easier to park both in New Jersey Tri State area. I arrive Newark, and after waiting about 20 minutes and 3 phone calls, was picked up and brought to the lot that had the car waiting. I was shocked to see it was a yellow sports car, with lights completely fogged over.

I was in a foldable wheel chair, which would not fit in the trunk and took major work to get it in the back seat. I was traveling to New Jersey to see specialists for my foot. I had surgery in May and was still unable to walk. I went back into the office and they said there wasn't a Rent A Wreck representative there and that this car was the only one they owned on the lot. It was actually a parking lot for people who fly out of Newark or workers at Newark Airport that leave their cars there for a fee.

I called the company direct and was told the same thing. It got much worse. By now I had seen a copy of the contract and all of the fees that were not disclosed including driving it to New York. One of my destinations - it's within 10 miles from where I picked up the car. Now having no other choice I had a doctor’s appointment to get to direct from there and was not late because of this experience. I take pictures of the car inside and out, then with no other choice, get in the car and note all of the things wrong with it including the missing air vents, electric switch to move seat was just hanging on a wire, windshield wipers that were all worn out, very hard to see causing a dangerous situation in addition as soon as I stopped at the exit of the parking lot, it appeared the brakes weren't working well if at all.

I called again and they said they didn't have anything except a Mercedes to rent to me but it would cost a lot more. I actually thought to myself, they must be filming this, but it was no joke. I literally crawled to the doctor’s office. Never going over 30 miles even on the Garden State Parkway. It was crazy. The next morning, I ended up doing nothing else but trying to contact anyone that would listen at Rent A Wreck Corporate. My calls and time apparently went on deaf ears, because to this day, I haven't heard back even though I was told they would contact me. I tried get them to allow me to bring it to another Rent A Wreck location so that they could verify the shape of the car, but they said it wasn't possible - they were all franchisees and one couldn't do that.

To this day not sure why, but found rides to most places I needed to go to, and waited for them to contact me - 4 days later no word. Now two months later still no word. This car should not be rented and this company should be out of business. As a side note, the corporate website, states the cars they rent are not wrecks, they are the same cars everyone is driving. The name is just "catchy". When I told this to the location I rented from, they told me that's a lie. What did I think I was renting with a name like "Rent A Wreck" and that they can't control what is stated on the website! WOW, really hoping a lawyer comes up with a lawsuit and quick. I will definitely join forces. I wouldn't rent from them again, and I advise everyone to stay away from the NEWARK, NEW JERSEY location if they value their lives!!!

I called and attempted to rent a car from them but after not even getting halfway through the rental contract, I decided to cancel after I was told about all the fees if I rented with them. Fees which I couldn't find anywhere on their website when I was searching for a car. I told them to just cancel everything and I didn't even complete the contract.

I go to get gas later that evening for my car and was told it was declined... So I go home and I check my bank account and realize every penny in my account was gone! They charged me for every penny I had any way. How they knew the exact amount I had in my account I will never know. I was supposed to attend a very important conference for work the next day and now it looks like I have to miss it since all of my money was taken and I will have to wait several days for my bank to get my money back. I'm so pissed right now that they completely screwed me over! They have no 24-hr customer service even at their airport locations. I called every number on their site and either the numbers were out of service and the rest all closed.

I rented a vehicle from this company in August of 2013 for a personal vacation. During the vacation, the vehicle suddenly would not start. I called the office to report the stalled engine and they said I was too far from their office to send anyone to help me even though I was well within the 100mile radius from the office as defined by the contract. This resulted in my need to get jump starts twice from the roadside, flagging down passenger vehicles to help. I was forced to cut my vacation short as I no longer trusted the car and on my way to drop off the car early, it completely stopped working while driving on the freeway. I was stranded in the 2nd lane of the California 101 interstate freeway with oncoming traffic nearly rear-ending me. I was terrified. Nobody at the office picked up the phone and I was forced to find a towing service of my own.

Upon visiting the office after this ordeal, they were extremely rude to me and refused to refund more than a day's worth of expenses even though the car had been mechanically impaired for days prior. They told me I should have brought the car in when I first needed the jump start, not offering compensation for my lost days on vacation or terrifying experience. I was forced to cut my vacation short and experienced a terrifying evening stranded on the highway. When I went in to speak to them the worker said he couldn't do anything because the manager was not in and that the following morning, the manager would be in. The next morning, the manager was not in again. They spoke over me and did not even allow me a chance to speak. Their customer service is appalling and the vehicles they rent are dangerous.

This company is claiming a bumper was damaged on a car that we rented. The company said I overlook the damage to the bumper when we had to circle all marks on the car prior to renting the car. The car bumper had a tied-down on the body of the car. The car had a lot of chip paint marks. We did not hit or got hit when we had this car. It is a shame. God will win this battle.

Worst car ever. I understood I was renting a "wreck" but this was barely drivable. The transmission slipped. The sideview mirror was not the correct size (it literally looked like a purse mirror that had been glued on) and it did not stay in place rendering it useless. The rearview mirror actually fell off at a point. There were pieces of the car dragging underneath, causing a horrid noise and probably sparks. The trunk nor the glove box opened (luckily, I didn't need registration or insurance). The radio was missing buttons and only got in two stations.

It was so absolutely disgustingly dirty that I felt the need to shower within a blocks drive (I opted for a can of Lysol antibacterial wipes from the nearest convenience store). The a/c didn't work. It was 90 degrees and humid that day. There was 208.000+ miles on the thing. Beyond the car, both at pick up and drop off, the office wasn't open on time forcing me to wait around the back of their shady office (an old converted house). This is the shadiest place ever and hands down the worst. Most disgusting car I've ever sat in.

I wanted a car with air conditioning. I received a car with AC, but the AC was not working at all. I had to cancel my medical appointment in Philadelphia for this morning. The temperatures were to be oppressive in Philadelphia with high temperatures and high humidity. I also, received a car with many dents. The car was a mint green Taurus with 165,000 miles on it and it had orange paint all over the front fender. Most importantly, I don't feel like it was safe to drive because the brakes were not too good. It felt like I had to push the brake down to the floor to work. The interior was the worst! There’s a cigarette butt in the back seat. The car was so dusty like it had not been used in a year. Simply put, the interior was filthy inside. I talked to Joe in Scotch Plains, New Jersey and he said I should return the car when they open and I will get a full refund.

I plan on returning the car when Rent-A-Wreck opens at 8:30 this morning. Plus, I had to wait from 3:20 to 4:30 to get the car! The car was sitting right there in the parking lot the whole time. Why did I have to wait so long? The car was on empty so I had to put gas in the car. They have a $100.00 deposit plus $53.00 in cash from me. I hope that I will be reimbursed like Joe from Scotch Plains, New Jersey mentioned to me. I really needed to go to this appointment in Philly and I am upset that I will not be able to go and I do not think that I will be able to reschedule in the near future. I needed this appointment.

On 06/22/10, I called Rent-A-Wreck. A representative, Jessica, informed me I could rent a Ford Focus at $169 for the week & needed $100.00 for deposit; the remaining balance will be charged once I returned the car. I went to Rent-A-Wreck, another rep., John, stated the Ford Focus isn't working & gave me a Dodge Neon. After getting home, I realized the car was lacking an inspection sticker & had an email attached in the left hand corner windshield explaining the car failed inspection. I called John & said what if I would've been pulled over for a simple spot check that would've been embarrassing. He said, "Don't worry, if you're pulled over, the ticket would've come to us." He gave me a Ford Taurus that I kept until I checked my bank account & noticed $100 was not charged, $373.05 was charged. I was under the assumption that $100 was the only amount to be held.

I immediately returned the car because they weren't telling me everything; instead were more focused on me signing the documents to take the car. I called the manager, Carl, who was absolutely rude. He decides to credit me for only 1 day & supposedly refunding $20 for gas & $19 for getting the Neon cleaned. My bank account was hit with approximately 11 overdraft fees. Moving forward, Carl said he won't reimburse me for the fees; this is pretty much "my fault". John then said I was getting 5-10% discount for my AAA Membership. When I dropped off the Ford Taurus, I asked John if my discount was applied & how much was it for. He stated it was & for 5%. Per AAA, there's no record of this transaction.

I've been back & forth with this facility due to their unprofessionalism, lack of courtesy & respect for me as a customer. I should've been fully compensated for my troubles as an out of state visitor. It's evident that the reps. at Rent-A-Wreck are more focused on a dollar instead of understanding the importance of valuing their customers. I'm outraged as to the neglect & treatment I received. I've been affected majorly financially. No one deserves this kind of abuse, neglect, rejection & deceit. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I have been financially damaged during my stay from Texas to New Jersey.

I rented a car on 1/29/10 for my daughter who was in from California. My account was debited $200 5 minutes after we left. The rental was $29.95 per day. We rented the car for 4 days. My daughter was stuck 3 times in the course of 4 days. Once the car was shut off,the key would not turn to start the car. It was locked. After an hour of jiggling the key, it finally started. My daughter stopped for gas and shut the car off. When she tried to restart it, the battery was dead. There was no cable to open the hood. Again she was stranded for hours until she obtained help from the attendant at the gas station who managed to get the hood open and boost the battery. We returned the car after closing on 2/2/10. The next day, 2/3/10, my account was debited for an additional $126.00.

Worst experience of my life. It's all in the name Rent-A-Wreck. The cars had over 160,000 miles on them; oil light and engine check lights on. Their hours of operations are ridiculous. No one picks up the phone when you call. If they do answer, they will be sure to tell you that they are the manager. The car they gave me had a broken seat. When I exchanged the car, no one was there. I called and no one answered. Mind you, this is 1:45 pm. I called them and had to wait for 45 minutes for them to come back to their place of work.

They finally got me a new car, which turned out to be worse than the first one I rented. When I demanded a new ride, they told me this is all they had. Never rent from Rent-A-Wreck ever! It’s not worth the savings. They kept my deposit for god knows what reason. I'm currently fighting with them to get it back with no luck.
