WARNING – Stay Away From This Rent-A-Wreck/APM Location in Orlando, Florida! My experience with this location was one of the worst I’ve ever had renting a vehicle. Everything seemed fine until after I returned the car. I was later charged hundreds of dollars for alleged damages and other fees that I strongly dispute and do not believe were justified. What made the situation even more frustrating was the lack of transparency. I never felt I was provided with clear evidence that supported the charges, and despite my efforts to resolve the matter, I was left feeling ignored and treated unfairly. Even after disputing the charges with my credit card company, I was still stuck with the bill.
If you’re considering renting from this location, I encourage you to read reviews from other customers before making your decision. I wish I had done more research first. Based on my experience, I would never rent from this location again, and I cannot recommend it to anyone. There are many other rental companies in Orlando that treat customers with honesty, fairness, and respect. Do yourself a favor and rent somewhere else.

If I could give zero stars I would... We rented a Nissan SUV through this location using Expedia at the end of May. They are not at the airport and a shuttle took 40 minutes to pick us up. Not the end of the world but certainly not what you would hope for...but wait...it gets worse! I received a text while we were in the air from Philadelphia to Tampa stating they would need a declaration page from our insurance policy unless we purchased their "optional" insurance, clearly a hard-sell tactic but we waited for our agent to send it over once we were at the check in counter location. The amount we were quoted and paid through Expedia went up by $111 so again, bait and switch tactics so the total for the week was $220 and not the $109 quoted and paid for with Expedia.
The location has hours listed online beginning at 7AM as does the door of the establishment. We arrived at 7AM Wednesday June 3rd the day of drop off before our flight to a locked door and dark office. We called and got no answer and waited until 7:20 before finally arranging an Uber that we had to pay for instead of the shuttle they should have provided. I texted them that we left the car out front and the keys in the mailbox and that we had to use an Uber to get to our flight. I received a response at 9:03 that they were sorry for the inconvenience...I assume they had just got there two hours after posted opening.
Fast forward a week to us getting an ADDITIONAL $500 CHARGE on our credit card for a scratch on the rear of the vehicle. They never sent us any documentation of said damage, no representative ever went around the vehicle with us when we picked up the car nor did we sign off on any pre-existing damages. We did not scratch the vehicle and as there was nobody there to check the car back in this is likely another tactic to bilk renters and I have seen more than several others complaining of the same at this location getting charged the same $500 for "damages". So, to rent a mid size SUV for a week from this awful customer service location ended up costing us over $700. RENTER BEWARE, THIS LOCATION IS A TOTAL SCAM/UPCHARGE BANDITS AND NO REPLY FROM CORPORATE EITHER WHATSOEVER.

Went in with a prebooked rental - lady was in a hurry to get me set up in my car. She wrote the rental agreement with my insurance.. which was fine. Except that the insurance info she copied was the insurance agent's affiliation (AAA) and not my actual insurance policy. So when I went back to rewrite the agreement, within 30 minutes, and she said she was too busy - I asked when additional staff would be on site to help - and she stated, "Later in the day." She was aware my policy was not corrected-complete on the agreement. So I came back before close to rewrite the rental agreement and she took the keys from me, stating the rental was finished, even though I had the car reserved for 2 weeks.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! I booked through Expedia and didn’t check the reviews beforehand — huge mistake. The negative reviews are absolutely accurate. I reserved a Toyota RAV4 or similar SUV, but when I arrived, the employee started adding a bunch of hidden fees. They charged extra just for using my own insurance, and then tried to charge another fee because I supposedly didn’t have the required $300,000 liability coverage. I rent cars frequently and have never dealt with anything like this before.
On top of that, they force you to prepay toll fees/daily charges, and if you decline, they threaten to charge around $50 per day. Because I didn’t meet their “minimum liability” requirement, they refused to give me the SUV I reserved and instead offered me an old Toyota Corolla. The car was outdated and in poor condition. Rental cars are supposed to be newer and reliable, not worn-out vehicles. I was so frustrated that I walked out without taking the car. Save yourself the stress and avoid this company at all costs.

This company is horrible. You go have take a shuttle from the airport to them then they don’t even have a live agent. You go in a little room and talk to somebody on the computer. After they try to upsell you on the tools they tell you it’s going to be $1000 deposit then after you agree, they wanna charge you another $350 on top of what you paid in full pre booking.

I rented a vehicle from Rent-A-Wreck and paid in full at the time of service, including charges for unlimited tolls and insurance. There were no outstanding balances or additional fees disclosed to me when I returned the vehicle. Before returning the car, I filled the gas tank completely. At drop-off, an employee inspected the vehicle in my presence and confirmed that everything was in good condition. I was not informed of any damage, fuel issues, or additional charges at that time.
After the rental was completed, I later discovered an unexpected charge of $410.65 on my account. This charge was not authorized, and I did not receive any prior notice, invoice, or explanation. When I contacted my bank to dispute the charge, the rental company claimed it was for damage and fuel. This is SCAM, as the vehicle was returned with a full tank and no damage was identified during the inspection at drop-off. This situation appears to be an improper post-rental charge without supporting documentation or customer consent. I am sharing this experience to warn others to carefully monitor their accounts after renting a vehicle and to request written confirmation of the vehicle’s condition at the time of return.

Rented a SUV in March 2026. Car was in good condition. Surprise expenses:
2. In Florida, I was told I now must pay for the E Pass activation and toll use.
I can accept the above two items since in fine print, and after I booked the car, I saw their notice. Second, I didn't realize Florida was changing their system to E Pass. But here are the additional fees that popped up after I returned the car:
1. They charged me for a cleaning fee: $60. The car was returned very clean: no stains, no garbage, and we barely used the car as a family since we were staying at a resort. We used it to go out for dinners a few nights.
2. "Scratch," on side of car. When I returned the car I asked them to come out to check it. The person at the front counter said not to worry, they have already taken the car to the back, and everything looked fine. 3 weeks after I returned the car, they charged me another $150 for the scratch. Now, there is no way to dispute this.
What was supposed to be the "best" deal on Expedia at $299 rental, turned out to over $800 in total. DO NOT get taken in by their low cost on Expedia.

Do not rent from them!! Total scam. You’re charged one price online and when you go to pick the car up, it’s three times the amount and then when you return it three days later, they will charge you that amount plus more again and will not refund. A car that said it would be $100 online ended up costing me 500. But they did it when I went to pick it up so I was basically stuck. They said they would work it out with me and gave me a deal, but then charged me the remainder once I returned home.

Upon reaching to the company I was told the price change to $110.00 a day and my 94.50 will not be returned. Lastly I was forced into purchasing a $110 insurance. Couldn't use my own insurance. In addition, they wouldn't take American Express. I was forced into using debit which I had to leave a $200 deposit. My total for 3 days was $ 481.14... This car rental place is a ripoff.. Only get 1 star because there is not option for ZERO stars. Their business is centered around trying to scam customers into buying insurance from them or they won’t rent a car. They take your reservation without any mention that you will have to buy their “insurance”. Once you get there they ask for a the declaration page from your car insurance policy. No customer has that in them, and they know that. Even those customers that do are told their coverage is not enough, no matter how much coverage they have. This business is a fraudulent car rental company. They lie to get your to reserve a car at a good price, then they won’t let you have the car unless you buy their “insurance”. Criminal. They should not be allowed to remain in business. Their purpose is to scam the customer.

I rented an SUV 2 1/2 weeks before flying into Reno for a Lake Tahoe ski trip with my family. I was scheduled to arrive late Saturday night, and as the rental outlet was closed on Sunday, they agreed to leave the key somewhere so I could pick the car up when they weren't there. I was asked to provide a scan of my driver's license and credit card so they could process the rental. I gave them the credit card number to take a deposit. Two weeks later - 4 days before my flight to Reno, I called back and spoke to a guy who reluctantly identified himself as Jerry.
I told him I was ready to send the scan of my driver's license, and asked him if there was a way to avoid sending an image of the credit card, as I have been the victim of identity theft in the past and was concerned about the possibility. I offered to read the card numbers to him so he could process it. Jerry, whose real name is Ali according to their head office, told me that he'd have to check with head office but he was 99.9% sure that the card image was needed. He said, "If I don't call you back in an hour, you need to send the card". I suggested that it would be better if he called me back to confirm. Jerry (Ali) then got angry and said, "I'm not giving you the car." I asked why and he said, "You've called here 6 times and argued with me. You can't have the car." (This was completely untrue).
I said, "Ok, I'll send you the image," and he said, "No, you can't have the car". I asked to speak to the location owner and he said he was "the manager" and he "makes the decisions", so I asked for his head office phone number but he wouldn't give it to me. I then called head office and waited 20 mins for someone to take the call. The woman took my information and agreed that this should not have happened. She gave me an incident number and told me a senior person would call me back by sometime the next day. It's been 10 days, and Rent a Wreck has not called back. I wouldn't take the car from them if they offered it to me for half what they quoted and rented from Enterprise - it cost more, but no hassles. Rent A Wreck is a schlock operation - I will never rent from them again. This was my Seinfeld moment - "no soup (car) for you" - it was almost funny dealing with Ali, who acted the same way as the guy in the episode.

SCAM. CRIMINAL and SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. They ruined a great vacation by not returning our deposit and then charging us for a dent and a scratch on the rental that was already there. We also found a dirty plate under their seat and fork yet they charged us a 80 dollar cleaning fee. They also won't accept any insurance to make you pay for theirs.
Lots of hidden fees, too. They also make you do your own inspection report, so they are basically preying on families that miss little things, then because they have your credit card, they charge whatever they want. We are out $2500 Canadian, and it feels like we were just ripped off and stolen from. Police should charge them with theft. They also never disclosed a broken tail light, and when I called them on it the morning after picking it up, they said, "Oh, don't worry, we know of it." Guess what, all the damage they said we caused is all around that taillight. I'm disputing all of the charges, as we took a video and can clearly see they are lying. I rented a vehicle on 12 October 2025. There were a lot of hidden charges that were not disclosed until I went to pickup the rental. I returned the vehicle in the same condition as when we picked it up. There was one issue where the liftgate was not closing properly, but it would close. Doing some research on the vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder, I discovered that this is a known issue with the Pathfinder and the fix is a simple reset of the control module or perform a recalibrate.
Two weeks later (12 Nov 2025) I discovered a charge of $1,155 on my credit card from APM Car Rental. At that time I did not know that Rent-A-Wreck was the same company as APM Car Rental. These charges were made without my knowledge or consent. APM never contacted me about the charges and my attempts to call them and discuss the charge were unsuccessful and I was told to send an email to info@apmrentalcar.com. I made several attempts to talk to someone at APM about the charge, but told multiple times that "they" could not help me and I had to send an email. I felt scammed by this company. I made the reservation through Expedia, and upon arrival the first thing they told me was that they did not accept the insurance I had already paid for, forcing me to purchase their insurance, which cost more than the vehicle rental itself. When I tried to cancel the reservation after seeing all these charges, I was told I would lose the USD 500 deposit I had already paid, so I was forced to accept them. Additional charges then appeared with no clear explanation. In the end, I paid almost three times the original quoted price. They ruined my vacation and seriously affected my finances. I will never rent from them again and do not recommend them to anyone.

Customer service was terrible from the beginning. There were so many hidden fees amounting to several hundred dollars for a basic rental advertised at $8/day. The person working behind the desk had to redo the contract 4 times for several different reasons including he wrote the wrong license plate. We finally got out of the rental place and drove to our condo to unpack, we went to take the car for dinner that evening and multiple engine lights were on and the power steering was out. We called the agency multiple times and no one answered. We tried the vehicle again to go get groceries and lights were still on and still no steering. We finally left a voicemail at 9 pm when they closed at 10.
We contacted Expedia to see what our options were and they provided us with a customer service number where we made contact immediately. They took down the complaint and said someone would call us in the morning. Someone called us at 8 am and asked us to send them a picture of engine lights for diagnostics. Before I could send the picture, they hung up on me. At 10 am we called back to see if they were replacing our car and they told us they were pricing out a tow truck at our expense and that we needed to just keep waiting. We informed them multiple times we had an excursion booked and asked how they wanted us to proceed.
They told us at 11 that they would have a replacement vehicle to us before noon. At 11:45, they called back to see if we still wanted the vehicle or if we would just prefer a refund. They finally brought us a replacement vehicle and it stunk so badly. The seats were so stained they had fake leather seat cushions to cover the stains. And they had attitude with us because we asked for a replacement vehicle. Between the condition of the vehicle and the way we were treated by staff when engines lights came on with less than 50 miles on the car is absolutely insulting. I reported this incident to management and the BBB, and I provided photographic evidence showing the employee on his phone while I was attempting to be served. I even uploaded a blurred version of the photo out of privacy considerations.
Despite this, the company repeatedly denied the obvious, dismissed the evidence, and claimed their employees are “well trained and educated in customer service,” while accusing me of making “unsound claims.” They never acknowledged the photo, never reviewed the camera footage, and never took any responsibility for the employee’s behavior.
