Absolutely terrible experience! This company is clearly using the bait and switch method. I booked a rental car with them on Expedia. When I arrived to pick up, they tried adding almost $800 in extra fees to my rental. Thankfully I didn’t sign anything before realizing this. I had an Uber pick me up and take me to Enterprise where the fees are straightforward.

Used Rent-A-Wreck in the Orlando FL area and after I returned the vehicle the way I received it, my credit card was charged an additional $750.00 for damages I did not do. In addition I provided my own personal insurance for damages. I did not damage the car, when I dropped the car off an assessment was done on the car and no damages were mentioned. Yet a week later they charged my card for damages instead of filing a claim with the insurance company I provided.

Only get 1 star because there is not option for ZERO stars. Their business is centered around trying to scam customers into buying insurance from them or they won’t rent a car. They take your reservation without any mention that you will have to buy their “insurance”. Once you get there they ask for a the declaration page from your car insurance policy. No customer has that in them, and they know that. Even those customers that do are told their coverage is not enough, no matter how much coverage they have. This business is a fraudulent car rental company. They lie to get your to reserve a car at a good price, then they won’t let you have the car unless you buy their “insurance”. Criminal. They should not be allowed to remain in business. Their purpose is to scam the customer.

I rented an SUV 2 1/2 weeks before flying into Reno for a Lake Tahoe ski trip with my family. I was scheduled to arrive late Saturday night, and as the rental outlet was closed on Sunday, they agreed to leave the key somewhere so I could pick the car up when they weren't there. I was asked to provide a scan of my driver's license and credit card so they could process the rental. I gave them the credit card number to take a deposit. Two weeks later - 4 days before my flight to Reno, I called back and spoke to a guy who reluctantly identified himself as Jerry.

I told him I was ready to send the scan of my driver's license, and asked him if there was a way to avoid sending an image of the credit card, as I have been the victim of identity theft in the past and was concerned about the possibility. I offered to read the card numbers to him so he could process it. Jerry, whose real name is Ali according to their head office, told me that he'd have to check with head office but he was 99.9% sure that the card image was needed. He said, "If I don't call you back in an hour, you need to send the card". I suggested that it would be better if he called me back to confirm. Jerry (Ali) then got angry and said, "I'm not giving you the car." I asked why and he said, "You've called here 6 times and argued with me. You can't have the car." (This was completely untrue).

I said, "Ok, I'll send you the image," and he said, "No, you can't have the car". I asked to speak to the location owner and he said he was "the manager" and he "makes the decisions", so I asked for his head office phone number but he wouldn't give it to me. I then called head office and waited 20 mins for someone to take the call. The woman took my information and agreed that this should not have happened. She gave me an incident number and told me a senior person would call me back by sometime the next day. It's been 10 days, and Rent a Wreck has not called back. I wouldn't take the car from them if they offered it to me for half what they quoted and rented from Enterprise - it cost more, but no hassles. Rent A Wreck is a schlock operation - I will never rent from them again. This was my Seinfeld moment - "no soup (car) for you" - it was almost funny dealing with Ali, who acted the same way as the guy in the episode.

Alarm with easy pass glass protection. In a bunch, additional fees, which came to fifteen hundred dollars 4days, absolutely ridiculous. Never again would I ever rent from them? SCAM. CRIMINAL and SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. They ruined a great vacation by not returning our deposit and then charging us for a dent and a scratch on the rental that was already there. We also found a dirty plate under their seat and fork yet they charged us a 80 dollar cleaning fee. They also won't accept any insurance to make you pay for theirs.

Lots of hidden fees, too. They also make you do your own inspection report, so they are basically preying on families that miss little things, then because they have your credit card, they charge whatever they want. We are out $2500 Canadian, and it feels like we were just ripped off and stolen from. Police should charge them with theft. They also never disclosed a broken tail light, and when I called them on it the morning after picking it up, they said, "Oh, don't worry, we know of it." Guess what, all the damage they said we caused is all around that taillight. I'm disputing all of the charges, as we took a video and can clearly see they are lying. In my 52 years on this earth, I have never experienced such a dishonest and deceiving company. They are ALL CROOKS AND SHOULD GO TO JAIL.

I rented a vehicle on 12 October 2025. There were a lot of hidden charges that were not disclosed until I went to pickup the rental. I returned the vehicle in the same condition as when we picked it up. There was one issue where the liftgate was not closing properly, but it would close. Doing some research on the vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder, I discovered that this is a known issue with the Pathfinder and the fix is a simple reset of the control module or perform a recalibrate.

Two weeks later (12 Nov 2025) I discovered a charge of $1,155 on my credit card from APM Car Rental. At that time I did not know that Rent-A-Wreck was the same company as APM Car Rental. These charges were made without my knowledge or consent. APM never contacted me about the charges and my attempts to call them and discuss the charge were unsuccessful and I was told to send an email to info@apmrentalcar.com. I made several attempts to talk to someone at APM about the charge, but told multiple times that "they" could not help me and I had to send an email. In total, APM Car Rental stole $1,555 from me - $400 deposit and $1,155 for an unexplained charge.

I felt scammed by this company. I made the reservation through Expedia, and upon arrival the first thing they told me was that they did not accept the insurance I had already paid for, forcing me to purchase their insurance, which cost more than the vehicle rental itself. When I tried to cancel the reservation after seeing all these charges, I was told I would lose the USD 500 deposit I had already paid, so I was forced to accept them. Additional charges then appeared with no clear explanation. In the end, I paid almost three times the original quoted price. They ruined my vacation and seriously affected my finances. I will never rent from them again and do not recommend them to anyone.

Customer service was terrible from the beginning. There were so many hidden fees amounting to several hundred dollars for a basic rental advertised at $8/day. The person working behind the desk had to redo the contract 4 times for several different reasons including he wrote the wrong license plate. We finally got out of the rental place and drove to our condo to unpack, we went to take the car for dinner that evening and multiple engine lights were on and the power steering was out. We called the agency multiple times and no one answered. We tried the vehicle again to go get groceries and lights were still on and still no steering. We finally left a voicemail at 9 pm when they closed at 10.

We contacted Expedia to see what our options were and they provided us with a customer service number where we made contact immediately. They took down the complaint and said someone would call us in the morning. Someone called us at 8 am and asked us to send them a picture of engine lights for diagnostics. Before I could send the picture, they hung up on me. At 10 am we called back to see if they were replacing our car and they told us they were pricing out a tow truck at our expense and that we needed to just keep waiting. We informed them multiple times we had an excursion booked and asked how they wanted us to proceed.

They told us at 11 that they would have a replacement vehicle to us before noon. At 11:45, they called back to see if we still wanted the vehicle or if we would just prefer a refund. They finally brought us a replacement vehicle and it stunk so badly. The seats were so stained they had fake leather seat cushions to cover the stains. And they had attitude with us because we asked for a replacement vehicle. Between the condition of the vehicle and the way we were treated by staff when engines lights came on with less than 50 miles on the car is absolutely insulting. They cost us 17 hrs of our vacation, stuck in the condo waiting for a reliable vehicle. Plus, the bathroom at the rental place was disgusting. They had 2/3 toilets overflowing **, water and toilet paper.

They will upcharge you for tolls, additional insurance (even when you have your own full coverage insurance), and whatever else they feel they can get away with. I don't see how they sleep at night. They don't rent to locals because they feel they can get away with scamming people from out of town or those from other countries. You will be better off renting from the airport. Sanford, FL. I booked through Expedia and upon arrival was also charged additional fees for insurance and tolls. I was upset but went ahead and paid. The agent also informed us that since we were leaving the state I would need to place a $1,000 deposit that would remain as a hold until the vehicle was returned and the hold would be released. The day of return was a total nightmare. The agent changed their story and said that the $1,000 would be retained and that I would be charged mileage for leaving the state. I asked to see the video in which clearly shows that I even showed my route to the agent so that he could tell me if I needed to prepay for tolls which is proof that I fully disclosed I would be using the car out of state and yet he was dishonest. This company is scamming people. It needs to be investigated. I filed a complaint with the BBB. Expedia should not allow this company to use their platform.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Avoid this location at all costs. My experience at the Tampa Rent-A-Wreck was one of the most unprofessional encounters I’ve ever had with any business. The employee working at the time remained glued to his phone during our entire interaction, ignored me, refused to help, and even ignored the Rent-A-Wreck phone representative who was trying to intervene on my behalf. I reported this incident to management and the BBB, and I provided photographic evidence showing the employee on his phone while I was attempting to be served. I even uploaded a blurred version of the photo out of privacy considerations.

Despite this, the company repeatedly denied the obvious, dismissed the evidence, and claimed their employees are “well trained and educated in customer service,” while accusing me of making “unsound claims.” They never acknowledged the photo, never reviewed the camera footage, and never took any responsibility for the employee’s behavior. If this is the standard Rent-A-Wreck considers “quality customer service,” then consumers deserve to know what they’re walking into. I will never use this company again, and I strongly recommend choosing any other rental service.

Not in the business to serve a customer by renting you a vehicle for a fee, but to scam you in every way possible - the purchased insurance from Expedia is invalid (gotta call expedia for a refund) and you have to pay them over $35/day for theirs; 50 miles per day limit hidden in the fine print and 39 cents per mile over that; video camera pointing inwards invading privacy without consent, no one at pick up to report pre existing damages to, hidden fine print authorizing them to keep on charging your card in the future. Worst part - they send you all of this the day of the pick up, and you need 48 hours minimum to cancel. I have NEVER EVER had such a horrible experience before. Seriously considering doing an investigation to find other victims and file a class action lawsuit.

I took a Lyft ride to this location and it turned out to be a residential address; nothing is like a business office nor a RentAWreck booth. The charge amount was different from what Expedia charged. They sent me another link, then another link, so on. They were all different from I booked with Expedia.

Every time, RentAWreck demanded my credit card info to pay first (I already paid the car booking with Expedia). Horrible experience; worst car rental ever! I have done many car rentals before and never experienced a horror show like this. The company representative in Orlando kept us at the counter for over an hour, upselling some services. In order to get the car, we need to pay almost $3000 in addition to the money we already paid for the rent!! There was absolutely no information about these extra charges during online booking. The company tried to get an extra insurance, 29/ a day for the tolls (even though we were not going to the area with the tolls), etc..

Needless to say, adding $3000 to our rental was unacceptable, and we ended up canceling the entire booking and renting from another (more reliable) rental car company. If you do not want to be stuck (especially with the children) in a hot office for hours with a representative who is shamelessly upselling you unnecessary services (but as they say, you can't have a car without it), never consider this rental company.
