So glad that I bought travel insurance for our last trip. I got sick the day before we were supposed to leave and wound up in the Dr.'s Office the day of the flight. With the help of the employees at Allianz I filled out the paper work and received a refund in just a little over a month after submitting the paper work. Thanks Allianz.

So shocking... Right from the start, I called on behalf of an elderly relative & at the end of the call the woman was laughing about how long we talked for & was clearly making a mockery of the claim. The customer... My family!! Overall, spent over 15 hrs doing their job. Asking the right questions, obtaining info & I initiating alternative measures for resolution! They didn't follow-up on verbal or written commitments (all recorded) or answer emails comprehensively or hand over to next shift correctly, if at all. They promised a physio which they did not deliver, & set-up what felt like little traps along the way. I asked if we should seek secondary medical advice to avoid compromising the case due to timelines... Not only did they advise no, they didn't meet timelines & said we needed secondary advice at the 11th hour.
I was told they had millions of customers so it was hard to get back to us, meaning they are taking on more clients than they are willing to resource for. The nurse was rude & contradicted herself on previous communications, as several of the case workers we dealt with. It felt like we're trying to make it as hard as possible to follow-up so we would give-up! I have dealt with many insurance companies and NEVER experienced anything as sloppy, unprofessional & stressful as this. They admitted it was poorly handled & could take a lot of learnings but refused to compensate the customer as their misconduct may have jeopardized her outcome. They even refused to call the airline to ask if they would help out if good-will considering the circumstances (as supposedly they didn't have anyone with the authority to rectify).
They said the airline would be very unlikely to support them, which also suggests their reputation with third parties is very poor. Please do not waste your money, but more importantly do not put yourself or your loved ones through the horrific & stressful circumstances that may result from having to interact with this company. Their overall rating is poor & they love to refer to the fine print once a claim arises.
At a high level this is a company that over-promises & under-delivers!! It is my opinion they target customers that don't read every word in the fine print (even though that didn't support my case) & people that trust insurance companies as they have never experienced an incident prior or have had a positive experience with another provider! It is a shame I cannot give zero stars, the fact 1 is the minimum & they sit at 1.4 says it all!! Do yourself a favor. Do some research & look elsewhere... I hope nobody else has to experience what we have!

I had to cancel my trip because I fractured my hip and was in the hospital when I should have been on my trip. They helped me by explaining the process to file a claim and sent me the forms to fill out. They let me know that they received them and were reviewing them. My check was sent to me soon after. I never book a flight without getting insurance. You never know what can happen.

My wife and I got sick on our vacation trip in April 2015. We had ambulatory treatment in a hospital in Vienna. Your response was thoughtful, helpful and despite some language issues, for me, with the hospital in Vienna, which were no one's fault, you processed the claims most timely and fairly. We are planning a new vacation in April 2016 and my wife and I purchased a new policy from you. Thank you.

I had a visit with the kids all planned out and got a good price on my plane ticket. My mother in law had been ill a few years and I always got insurance just in case. We lost her in August but something made me get the insurance anyway in September. I am glad I did because my husband had to undergo emergency surgery and I was unable to make my trip. I submitted the required paperwork to Allianz and was refunded the whole ticket price. Had no problems with the whole transaction. It was very welcome after all I had been through already. Thanks.

I booked a JetBlue Getaways package on September 16th. I also purchased travel insurance. Our trip was scheduled for November 16th. On November 10th I was diagnosed with shingles. I also have a per diem job which I lost. These two things caused me to cancel my trip. So far I sent Allianz a note from my doctor, a copy of my prescription, and a letter from JetBlue stating that they did cancel the trip but didn't give me a refund. I called Allianz customer service several times to get nowhere with them. I sent them several emails asking for the status to get no response. Please help me get a refund $1,600.00 which I am entitled to.

I bought an Allianz Global Assistance cancellation policy from Jefferson Insurance Company for a trip. When I needed to cancel the trip because the country I was going to visit didn't give me a visa (a country with strained relations with the US), it turns out that this policy doesn't cover it. One has to provide the tickets to apply for a visa, so I bought the insurance in case I wouldn't be granted the visa. Of course the insurer suggests that one submit a claim for them to reconsider, but after all the time it would take to do this, I am sure they will still not change their position.

Traveled from Tampa, Fl to Munich, GE on Delta. The connecting European flights, Munich to Sarajevo the same day and then SJJ to Brussels a few weeks later was purchased by phone from Travelocity. Despite telling the agent I wanted travel insurance, they left it off, leaving me unprotected for potential delays and flights. To rectify the situation I was fortunate to be able to turn to Allianz to purchase travel insurance for only Sarajevo to Brussels leg of our trip for a reasonable price. Unfortunately, my wife contracted an ear infection and we had to delay our flight by 5 or 6 days at a cost of approx $400 in airline change fees plus an additional hotel stay.
A claim was filed with Allianz for the airline fees and hotel but after some 30 days and no notification was received I check the website and saw the claim was denied but no explanation provided. I call customer service to find out why the claim was denied and after some discussion determined that the initial reviewer was confused by the documentation provided and the fact the policy only covered the final leg of the trip. Once the situation was clarified, the claim for airline fess was paid but not the unplanned hotel stay or doctor's office visit since "medical" was on covered in the policy. My experience with Allianz was rated at 4 Stars (3 Stars was contemplated) in lieu of 5 Stars based on no notification or explanation of the initial denial was provided but customer service was excellent, the claim partially paid after clarifications and the fact that I was able to purchase travel protection at a reasonable price.

Excellent, fast, fair. Definite contrast to experience with airlines that took years to resolve (but was required before Allianz would pay claim). However, as soon as the airline payment was settled, Allianz reopened case and paid their share. Allianz was also helpful when loss of luggage occurred, trying to locate bag at that time.

Unable to travel due to a medical condition. My claim was rejected as Allianz stated my medical condition was "preexisting". I had no idea that they would reject a "preexisting medical condition", as the company doesn't particularly put its policies front and center (so to speak) for its customers. Since they rejected my claim, I called to ask for a refund of my expenses paid for the travel insurance itself. As far as I'm concerned, I paid money for a service. If they don't perform a service for me, I should be able to get my money back. That's not the way Allianz thinks... they told me that me filing a claim is a "service" and that I am not entitled to get any money back for the expenses that I paid for the travel insurance, since they apparently spent time and money to review and reject my claim. I asked the customer service rep how this is any different than someone stealing money from me. Because as far as I was concerned, Allianz was stealing my money.
The customer service rep just went into her long winded explanation about Allianz nonsense. Long story short, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME ON THIS COMPANY AND ITS "INSURANCE". All they will do is find any reason to reject your claim. Once your claim is rejected, they will also take your money spent on the travel insurance itself! It's a win-win situation for Allianz. They win.. its customers get SCREWED! I learned my lesson. Never again will I give my money to a travel insurance company (especially Allianz).

The unthinkable happened when my mother passed away the morning before we were to leave! The Allianz reps were helpful in guiding me how to initiate the claim, and the process was easy. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I had a good experience with them a year ago, but this time was horrible. I had a flight booked to Nepal to help with rebuilding after the earthquake and my airline cancelled all flights to Nepal due to the fuel embargo. So I had to rebook with another airline which cost $300 more and left a day earlier. I was advised by Allianz to file a claim and see what happened and then call back later to move my departure date one day forward. They denied my claim and refused to move the date ONE day forward. So they basically stole $107 from me for a trip that I never took. Book with HTH Worldwide Trip Protector Preferred instead! They have a great plan for $40 cheaper! I bought two airlines tickets from American Airlines, 5 weeks before a scheduled release date of an 8-week old puppy, then bought what was advertised as "travelers insurance" from Allianz Global. A week before the flight, I was notified by the breeder that her 80-year-old husband was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and she needed the 4 new owners to pick up the puppies 5 days early as she could not properly care for them due to husband's deteriorating health. I cancelled my two airline tickets, drove the 790 miles and picked up the puppy 4 days early. I then applied for a refund of the non-deductible portion of the airline ticket ($412 - rather than the true cost of driving and hotels of $700). Alliance stated cancelling my claim due to a medical emergency of the people I was to visit was not a valid reason to pay the claim.

Do NOT waste your money on this insurance unless you know you will be in court, you are getting ready to die, or a family member you are taking care of is seriously ill, you think the flight may be hijacked or our country is taken over and messes with your travel plans. If one of the above then get the insurance. If you think they will actually help cover costs when things go out of your control you have a surprise coming. For example: I'm in a custody battle for my daughter and out of my control the judge has decided to move the dates around which is causing me to change my flight plans. Is this covered? No. And just about 99% of everything else isn't covered.
My suggestion is to not waste your money on this company. You are going to end up having to pay any change fees or new tickets anyway. Why add to the frustration of talking to one of their agents? If I could give negative stars I would for the misleading way this company advertises.

Due to unexpected severe weather both at our departure and arrival cities, we were unable to make our flight. Although the airline refunded the original cost of the tickets and forgave the penalty fee, we had to pay an additional $250 over the original price of the tickets to re-book the flight for the following weekend. Having purchased the trip cancellation insurance I assumed that this additional cost would be covered minus the deductible. I was mistaken. The claim was outright denied and the explanation was that the policy is a "named perils" travel policy. Evidently Allianz will only pay trip cancellation if "the carrier cancels the flight". If the carrier cancels the flight, the carrier re-books the flight or refunds your ticket purchase. Obviously a bait and switch and I will NEVER purchase travel insurance from this company again and urge anyone thinking of purchasing a policy with Allianz to review the policy carefully within the time allotted for cancellation of same.

When going online to use their automated website I discovered it did not work when it came to filing a claim, however, it worked if you wanted to buy a policy. With no option other than to call I finally got through and spoke with a person who looked up my policy and quickly told me that I could not file a claim because I was not with the military nor was I getting fired from my employment. I now am kicking myself for wasting my money on Allianz Global Assistance. The keyword here is NO ASSISTANCE! Allianz is very eager to take your money but when time comes that you need 'assistance,' the people at Allianz would make it miserable for you to make a claim. They'd find any and all excuses possible to avoid covering your claims. They list a phone number (800-334-7525) and claim that customers can contact them "anytime - we are available 24 hours a day." But when you call outside of business hours (EST), you'd get a recording saying their office was closed and disconnected the call abruptly!
By the way, when you call Allianz for 'assistance,' most likely you'd get customer service from Mexico City. There they'd say anything to get you off the phone and you'd get nothing out of it! I had far more trustworthy travel insurance policy with other companies before and Allianz is the worst! They are big and they're connected with AAA (auto club) but they are very evasive and ugly, when and if you need them. So, do yourself a favor: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ALLIANZ!

I contacted Allianz and was given instructions on what I needed to do regarding documentation for a claim to be processed for reimbursement. After my initial call, over the next couple of days I received follow up phone calls from Allianz customer service reps asking if there was anything else they could help me with. I followed their instructions to the letter regarding proper documentation for reimbursement. When I got home I submitted all needed forms and was notified about 10 days later that the claim had been paid in full and the check was on its way to me. I am very satisfied with my association with Allianz.
I am writing this because I read online reviews about other people's experiences with Allianz before I purchase my insurance. People usually don't take time to commend good customer service, they just post when they have a complaint. Well I am a happy customer and will use them again in the future as well as recommend them to friends. In June, I purchased two first class tickets from Orlando to Maui for our 40th wedding anniversary on the American Airlines website. Booking the trip was challenging as I have some health issues that make travel difficult. For that reason I needed both the first class seat for the comfort and ability to move around as well as only one airport stop to make the trip as short and easy as possible. I purchased the Trip Protection insurance to try and protect my $4500 investment in case there were problems. We were eagerly anticipating the trip and knew that it would be our last time to be able to get to Hawaii which we dearly love.
On the morning of the trip we got up at 4 a.m. to get to the airport for our 7:30 flight. There was a message on my husband's cell advising us that there would be a delay of our outbound flight. We were advised to call the airport to begin making other arrangements. We did call the airline and were left on hold for the entire trip to the airport... over 1.5 hours. When we arrived at the airport we were given new tickets. These new tickets required that we fly from Orlando to Phoenix and then to LAX and then to Maui. My planning specifically avoided LAX as it is a difficult airport to navigate. Further we were placed in Coach for the Phoenix to LA piece. The changes in our flight were going to delay us in excess of 6 hours from when we planned to arrive. This would mean we had no room to check in to in Maui as our small inn closes the front desk at 8.
We discussed our options at the airport and decided we could not make the trip under the current circumstances. We were heartbroken. The supervisor at the airline advised us that we should not have any problem getting a refund given that the delay was in excess of 6 hours. We came home and I filed a claim. Today we were told that our claim was denied as our trip was not delayed by more than 24 hours. The policy clearly states that delays over 6 hours are compensable.
Now, I am out the 4500 for the tickets and insurance as well as 450 for the room deposit we lost. We also then had to find a place closer to home to celebrate our anniversary and had expenses associated with that. Since we didn't have time to "shop around" those expenses were higher than they should have been. What is the purpose of buying insurance if the plan is not to pay all along? I should have saved my money and at least I would be out a few hundred less. I work in insurance and know the game very well. However, I also know that the companies I work with are ethical and reasonable and do not take people's suffering lightly. Whatever you do, don't buy this insurance. It is a huge waste of time and money.

Allianz Comprehensive Travel Insurance is a SCAM! Comprehensive... more like ultra-limited insurance. So much fine print it's actually a joke. One part said - baggage cannot be left in a vehicle. If you file your claim outside the 24 hour period of the time of theft/loss, your claim is automatically dismissed. Even if you are traveling for that whole period.
This company is a pain in the ass. Even to long paying customers. Very happy to take your money, impossible to claim any money from these scum bags. If you do happen to get any money back, it's usually money they extract from other parties i.e the place you lost it, or the carrier you were on. Scam. I filed a claim with the police department where my phone was lost/stolen. Apparently, you cannot make a claim without the serial number of your phone?! I cancelled my return fight home after my father's oncologist said my father didn't have long to live. I purchased travel ins offered by Allianz when I purchased my on-line airline tickets. When I made my reservations, I knew my father was sick, but I did not know he was dying. I expected to visit him for two weeks and then return home.
My request for a refund was denied by a rep in the Travel Claims Dept who stated their insurance does not cover "pre-existing" conditions. A pre-existing condition is defined by "any illness/injury that a person was seeking or receiving treatment for or had symptoms of on the day the insurance was purchased, or at any time in the 120 days before it was purchased."
I sent an appeal stating the "pre-existing" information is not listed when clicking the box for travel insurance, but my appeal was denied by Brian **, Claims Escalation Examiner. He stated I received an email from Allianz at the time I purchased airline tickets stating I had a 10 day "free-look" period and my email didn't bounce so they know I received it. Upon reading the email Mr. ** referred to, I clicked on the link to Allianz's website, but had to dig to find the coverage information which is in their Q&A section. I wasn't the patient, I completed the refund forms properly and I purchased travel ins. in good faith. Allianz's competitor, Aon Affinity, refunded my husband's return flight (he flew out a few days after I did) with the same set of circumstances. We believe Allianz's airline insurance is deceptive and is not consumer-friendly.

I cancelled the flight through Expedia, before the flight, and Swiss Air International reimbursed me fast, save the $300 that Expedia said would be paid by Global Allianz. I called Global Allianz yesterday and they informed me that they could not find my policy in their system, with my tracking number fully printed on my booking papers. The guy talked to me about Sky something that I was not involved with at all. He asked me for a doctor's certificate that does not exist since Claudette did not use a doctor for that.
I really feel Global Allianz are crooks trying not to reimburse me. I paid $128.48 for my insurance that they don't honour at all. It's giving a very bad image to Expedia too since they referred Global Allianz to me. I will never use Expedia again neither Global Allianz. They are on my blacklist. Avoid them at any price! The physician filled out the claim form for this insurance company and stated that I should not have even tried to go on the trip. I filed the claim and it was denied. They stated that the reason was because I did not see someone within 72 hrs and that I should have gone to the emergency room.
I did not go to an emergency room due to the cost associated and the Required Documentation from this insurance company did not say anything about seeing a doctor within 72 hrs, only that you needed a completed physician Statement Form. Concluding from the number of negative reviews and my own experience this insurance company is a scam and should not used. I could not get additional support documents from my previous employer and had to drop the application for reimbursement. I had the letter of termination and unemployment notice that all showed loss of job but Allianz insisted on getting additional documents from employer that I was unable to get. I had an idea that I would probably need to cancel it for a conflict with a work travel, so I purchased the insurance, thinking that if that happen, I would not have a headache getting a refund. They have it displayed on Delta's website: "Why Trip Protection? Get it for: Travel cancellation or interruption coverage, Emergency medical and dental coverage, 24-hour emergency assistance anywhere in the world." There is a contract with terms and conditions attached to the receipt AFTER you already have purchased, and all written in minuscule/small barely readable letters (of course).
Well, time is here and I did need to cancel it as I expected. Called these guys today, and they refused to refund my money saying that a cancellation for the reason I mentioned here was not included in the contract. I just think they should not display any information giving the client the idea that it would be headache free cancellation. They should inform the client better. The lack of clear information just cost me $ 400.00 which I am getting $180 from Delta. A total disrespect with the customer. DO NOT purchase the insurance. Save yourself some time and money on dealing with these guys. Total rip off! I will spread the news all over my company and co-workers about not dealing with them. I purchased a trip for my parents to visit me from Brazil from March 17th through August 26th through United Airlines. Since they are 70 years old, I decided to purchase a travel insurance in case of any emergencies. One month after their arrival, my father noticed blood and pain during urination. I contacted the insurance and they inform me on how to proceed. The test result accused an infection and the presence of blood. I filed a claim and receive the payment for it.
Since he was still experiencing pain during urination and blood was still present in his urine he went back to the clinic a twice within a 2 month period. I have submitted both receipts, and have contacted the insurance numerous times and no concrete answer was given to me. On July 20th an representative from the claims department told me that I needed to submit his proof of residency and I would receive an answer within 10 business days. Today I called and the representative said that he did not get reimbursed because the insurance does not pay for follow up visits. I asked agent to point that out where the exclusion is listed and after being on hold for over 20 minutes she said that it falls under "palliative care" on section 6.
The definition of Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses. It focuses on providing patients with relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. It is my understanding that having an urine infection and blood in your urine during your vacation when you are 70 years old qualifies for an emergency as it needs immediate attention. He didn't go back to the doctor to do a CAT scan, or MRI, or an ultrasound. He was not here to treat a disease, and this insurance was purchased to be used during an emergency. I have purchased this insurance quite a few times and just never needed to use it. Definitely after this lengthy fiasco I will never use you again and will make sure that none of my loved ones spend their earned money on it.

ALLIANZ INSURANCE via HOTWIRE... People, anyone trying to save money by buying Allianz Insurance through Hotwire, PLEASE DON'T. This insurance company is a nightmare. Instead buy expensive insurance from the rental company itself. Had a month and half long business trip and I purchased Allianz Insurance for a rental car. The vehicle collided with a pillar while coming out of a parking lot and I had the vehicle repaired with my own dime because I was on the road. Submitted the claim...
No one from Allianz ever gave me a call or sent a mail regarding necessary documentations. I researched and supplied the info on my own. 2 months later... CLAIM DECLINED. Why?? "You should have reported the incident to the car company even after having the car repaired." WOW... And the rental car company would have posted another bill on me with hypothetical issues in the car.
I have worked in insurance myself and know for a fact that if you return the car with damage to the car company, they inflate the cost exorbitantly, which is then rejected by insurance company. And so 2 months later you get a notice from the rental company as they are demanding money which insurance company will not pay. So now you not only have the cost of damaged car on your head, but a lawsuit as well. I am not trying to defraud anyone. I work hard to earn my money. The limit for damage insurance is 40k... I am asking for my 3500 only... Have provided check image from my bank with account and routing number, images of the car, rental agreement, declaration that due to being on the road I couldn't inform the rental company in 24 hours of the damage, damage report from the repair center and the invoice.

I sent everything asked for and more (which cost me $28 in fax fees at FedEx) but found out about a week or two later that my claim had been denied because mental illness was not covered under my policy.
Granted it was written on one of the very last pages of my policy and in small print, it was still there. I suppose it's my own stupidity for not reading the fine print, however, I am SEVERELY disappointed to find out that they do not cover diagnosable mental illness, as a disease of the brain is just the same as a broken leg or a heart attack. I was supposed to arrive in Costa Rica at 9:27am to make an appointment for a medical procedure at noon. However, because of the the delay, I didn't make it to my destination until well after 4:00pm thus missing my appointment. I have been purchasing travel insurance from them for years thinking that I was well covered for such events but believe me when I tell you, you are not covered. I travel overseas a minimum of three times a year and this was the very first time I had to make a claim for losses. Allianz looks for every excuse it can to deny your claim, and the representative I spoke to was very rude. I will never depend upon them again. This is the worst travel insurance company I have ever dealt with. I owned a travel agency for 20 years and have many friends in the travel business to whom I will recommend NOT using Allianz. I made a claim (Claim # **) after having a ring stolen on a Royal Caribbean cruise. My claim was denied because the letter from RC was dated a couple weeks after the incident, and Allianz denied my claim because I didn't make the claim within 24 hours. The fact is, I did make the claim within 24 hours as stated in the second followup letter from RC (see document in my claim file). You guys are nitpicking and a sorry example of travel insurance coverage. I will never use your travel insurance again AND I will recommend to all my travel agent friends and others to NOT use Allianz.

We have been using Allianz for at least 15 years. They have always been very responsive and helpful on the few occasions we have had a problem. We have been reimburse for medical expenses on two difference cruises. On our cruise last year the airline lost my luggage and I had to replace clothes for the 18 day cruise. I spoke to Allianz and they would have covered the expenses if the airline did not, but they did. These have been small expenses but if you have to cancel your trip or have to be taken to a port for medical treatment, it could be a very large expense and it is nice to know that you are covered by Allianz. We always use their travel insurance for all our trips. Thanks Allianz!

I had to re-buy a lot of things because I did not have anything to wear, nor any toiletries. The company told me that all I had to do was fax photocopies of the receipts, and I would be reimbursed. By the time I got back from my trip a month later, the checks were already at my house. I was very satisfied with their customer service. I would definitely recommend them because you never know if you will lose your luggage. Spending extra money on things you already have hurts, but having the insurance makes it all better.

A little over a week before the race, I still couldn't swim without pain and didn't feel comfortable on my bike with how I had to position my wrist to avoid pain. When I purchased airline tickets several months before our trip, I thought it prudent to add insurance because I had elderly parents 94 and 91 years old at that time. My husband and I were going 'home' to visit our son's family and see our new grandson. We had only seen him when he was born and a whole year had passed. Little did I know that just a few weeks prior to departure I would almost die from a bout of viral pneumonia that would hospitalize me off and on three times. I was in the intensive care unit for three of the days. When I was discharged I was quarantined for three more months because my immune system had been compromised.
Allianz was there to help. Your personnel were empathetic and patiently waited until I was strong enough to file a claim. Your company quickly refunded over $600 in ticket fees. A little over a year has passed since then. I am just now starting to feel well enough and think about booking another trip now to finally see our grandson who is two years old. Thank you, Allianz. We will never travel without you. And I'm happy to report my parents are very close to 96 and 93.

Don't waste your money! I purchased their travel insurance to cover a flight for a family emergency. 2 days after booking the flight, the emergency was resolved and as such I didn't need to take the flight. I filed the claim and uploaded the supporting documentation as REQUIRED, but after review they denied my claim. What is the point of trip insurance if you can't use it!? Here is their 'excuse':
"Thank you for choosing Allianz Global Assistance to protect your recent travel investment. We are sorry that your travel experience did not go as planned. We have completed our review of your claim, and unfortunately are unable to provide benefits under the coverage you purchased because: You aren't covered for any loss that results directly or indirectly from any mental or nervous health disorders (like anxiety, depression, neurosis, psychosis and others), or any related physical complications if they affect you, a traveling companion or a family member, whether the family member is traveling with you or not. Based on the claim documents you submitted, we regret that we are unable to honor your claim."
So, the fact that my family member is ok means that to me losing the price of a ticket was worth it. But this company did NOT support me when I needed them to...and that means I will never buy into them again and strongly discourage anyone I know that is considering it. As a member of the military I will also be reporting their behavior to lobby for this company to be banned for military personnel. If they can't support us, I can't condone supporting them. I am disappointed and hope that I might spare others a greater expense or a false sense of security. BUYER BEWARE!
