We did not have any issues until approximately 2 1/2 months ago. App is not reflecting proper solar intake. We were sent troubleshooting directions. Didn’t work. Chatted again and was given a number to call. When I called I was told they didn’t service Connecticut. Tried calling main office and left multiple messages. Finally got a hold of a woman who stated I would receive a call to set up an appointment for someone to come out and see what was going on. Never got a call. So called again and was told to keep my phone close and I would be called shortly to schedule an appointment. Still no call. Not sure why it is so difficult to get a tech to come check out our system and help us to feel better about our purchase?

Beware the "Escalation Clause" if you lease the panels, and the clause that states you will not be credited for any time that the system is not working. After 10 years, the inverter failed. A Grass Valley installation company trouble-shot the problem and the idiots at Sun Power wanted to give the installation of the new inverter to a company in Citrus Heights. The Grass Valley firm prevailed. Sun Power took 54 days to order and deliver to the Grass Valley firm the new inverter. The new inverter was successfully installed but Sun Power refused to acknowledge that I was without solar power for 54 days and credit my account. Their position was as stated in the lease contract that there is no compensation for any period of time that the customer is without power for any equipment failure.
Yes, the fault was mine for not perusing the contract but, in the interest of good customer relations and maintaining customer loyalty, they could have honored the credit. They hide anyone of authority from any contact with a customer; phone calls are not returned after leaving messages and all calls are routed to overseas representatives. The monetary resolution would have been to accept the $35 I owed Sun Power (Payment owed to Sun Power minus the 54 days credit). Sun Power is very difficult to contact anyone of authority. They are not customer oriented and could care less about customer satisfaction. Proceed cautiously when considering business with Sun Power.

I purchased a 27 panel PV system in 2016 from SunPower through an authorized dealer. I choose SunPower because of reputation for quality equipment, strength of warranty, and the skills of the installing dealer. The first three years was an excellent experience: the original installation was flawless, the system performed as expected, and we had an issue that was proactively repaired. From four years and beyond, SunPower has failed to perform as a company. About three years ago, we had an issue which required the monitor system and some microinverters to be replaced under warranty. That repair, done by an SunPower authorized dealer (not the original installing company, but by NovaSource/SST) actually ruined the PVS, and over the course of their involvement, substantially damaged other parts of the system, taking it offline for six months.
After going back-and-forth with SunPower to fix the damage with no progress, I paid to replace the destroyed switch to get the system back online. (Neither SunPower nor SST would accept responsibility for the damage they caused.) I have attempted to maintain regular contact with SunPower to complete the needed repairs. As of July 2024, (three years since this particular debacle started) we still have two panels offline and a malfunctioning monitoring system. All of this work should be under warranty, but the company has failed to assigned the work to a qualified contractor to complete the repairs. The warranty is worthless as the company will not stand behind it. I have attempted to 'escalated' this issue, but my messages are ignored.

Well, I don’t have a system yet and I’m already dissatisfied. I signed up with Sunpower last March 2024, with a very eager salesman to get me to sign a contract right away. Once I did, a site survey was completed. I felt fine until a generic email showed up which basically said: “We don’t know how to run our business so we are going to get rid of our residential installation people and you’ll hear from us…”. A few weeks later, an email said that they had given our installation to a company whose phone line is a Google Phone. After trying, I got a call from the owner saying they would send someone to do a site survey (again). Once completed, radio silence again.
Then I got an email from a lady named Beyra Salinas who works for Sunpower but doesn’t feel like she should promptly reply to inquiries. Then she said she wanted $4500 to install soft starters for my AC system. Once I told her I didn’t need them, she came back with: “oh yeah, you are right”. I emailed her once again to say, could you tell me what’s going on? No reply so far. At this time, either install my system or release me from my contract.

I have the worse experience to transfer my solar service to new buyers of my home. They have took to long to transfer the new owners over to the solar service. They said it would take 24 to 48 hours to do so. And it's been 7 days including the holiday of the 4th. We told them it needed to be done ASAP so the new owners can close on my home.
They have yet to do so. I will never use this company again. I have had Sunnova on our other home and we had no issues or waiting time that Sunpower has gave us. See a lot of great reviews on installs. But try selling your home and transfer it to new owners and then tell me how you feel. Again not happy and will never get SunPower again!!!

I just want to say that the company who installed our solar panels were great but if you want to transfer the contract, because you are selling your house, to someone else is ridiculous. It should not take an entire 60 days to do so. There is no way to contact underwriting to move it along as well. We are a military family and have orders to move, and still nothing. This process should take 15 days, 30 at the most. Title will not close on our house until this is approved and both my husband and the buyers have called but customer service cannot give us an answer as to where they are in the process. Just to be “patient” and “give us some time”, it has been over 30 days now. I’m so frustrated!!!

SunPower is full of lies. I had 2 people come out to my home and sell me a bunch of lies. First off my roof is like 30 yrs old and I asked them because my roof was so old will they remove the solar panels if I needed to get a new roof and is it free. They told me absolutely. I have a 2 huge trees in my yard. I asked if they would cut them down so that I can get the panels on the front of my house where the sun hits the most. They told me, "Oh it’s not a problem. We can put them on the back of the house." They never offered me a new roof or to cut down my trees while other solar companies are offering that.
I’m a first time home owner and I didn’t know anything about solar but it saves you money on your bill. But they assured me that I was making the right decision and that if I needed a new roof which I told them I did and that my homeowners insurance was making me fix 1 shingle and they put the panels up on my roof anyway where the shingle needed to be replaced at and I called them because they threatened to cancel my insurance this month and I asked if they could remove the solar panels and they are giving me hell saying I have to pay 8600$. I don’t have that kind of money plus I’m paying for my new roof and the people who came to my house Ryan and Naudia told me they would remove them for free and I had a roof Ajuster come by. He said, "They never should’ve put solar panels on a roof as old as yours."

They broke tiles on my roof causing leaks in my ceilings. The sales advertisement says your electricity bill will be less than $100. Not true for me it is much more. Read the 40-page contract carefully. You need a lawyer and an electrical engineer to figure it out because the salespeople they tell you one thing and the contract says something else.

System out for over a week. No notices, nothing! Sunpower wants me to fix it, which I won't do because I'm not qualified & it's not my responsibility. So no solar or backup batteries because SunPower system sucks & customer service sucks too. I have been working with SunPower for 200 days, and I am still not connected to the power grid. Despite numerous attempts to get answers from corporate, no one is responding to me. I was informed that my installation was passed down to their "trusted" installer after the company laid off all their crew. This is beyond disappointing.
It's the middle of summer, and my panels are installed, but instead of harvesting energy during the peak season, I am left fighting to get someone to acknowledge my request and complete my installation. Emails and calls lead nowhere, leaving me with no choice but to contact SunPower through all social media channels and review sites. They promised to cut my $500 electrical bill to $200, and I hope they honor this commitment and reimburse me for my costs. This experience has been incredibly frustrating, and I would not recommend SunPower to anyone based on my ordeal.

I got the app of SunPower on my phone and I'm watching my progress. I'm doing really well and I'm really happy with it. It's working great for me. I was confused because there are so many people in my neighborhood where I lived before, they've gotten solar power and they're not getting any money back from it. They're paying for it on a daily basis. So I'm fortunate right now. I'm not paying any bills. I got a rebate on the first bill. It's great.

The installation wasn't as good as it could have been. There wasn't enough communication and when the installers from SunPower came over to check things inside the house, they used a ladder in our laundry room and scratched up our linoleum floor. I have the app to track my progress installed on my phone, which I rarely use. I'm more into just getting the paper bill from PG&E and seeing that there's nothing due. It's been going good. I haven't paid an electric bill in about four months.
SunPower has a good system. It's just that things didn't happen as they should have. It should have been hands-off from installation to turnkey, but it wasn't. I had to get involved to get things going from PG&E because the system had been complete and for over a month, it wasn't turned on. Things could have been turned on sooner. I communicated with the salesperson and the manager who was handling it. But after a while, I got nothing from them because they didn't want me involved. I called their customer service, which was great. They clued me on through the app and who I should call and get things going over at PG&E. They gave me the code that I needed and this is what the manager should have done.

So far, my experience with SunPower has been good. It took me a while to figure out how the graph worked. I eventually figured it out and I check it every morning even before the sun comes up, and it's all looking good. It looks like it's making more power than I'm using. I like that. I just wish SunPower would give me the option to install more panels. I have 17 but there's space for 18. I understand they're only trying to make 100% of what I used, but there's nothing wrong with making 200%. They left one little place out of there. It looks like it'd be a perfect place for one more panel.
As far as the customer service from SunPower, it couldn't be any better. Every time I've called them or emailed, I've gotten a straight answer. They did the installation in one day, which was wonderful. And everybody on the crew seemed to know exactly what they were doing. I would ask them electrical type questions, being I was an electrical technician in the Air Force, and I was surprised that they seemed to know what they were doing. It just took forever to get Xcel out here to do their part and get it hooked into the existing wiring system. So, SunPower needs to get some connection with those guys to get that part go faster.
Jacob, your review is appreciated and we're so happy to read that your experiences with SunPower have consistently met your expectations. Updated on 06/10/2024: stay away from Sunpower. You will not see any power. It looks like the company is going down, they just laid off over 1000 workers. I signed a contract last year. The installation was on march 18-2024. Till today the system is not turned on. Customer service don't help beside answering the phone, they can't solve any problems. I wrote a bad reviews few weeks ago and Sunpower reply was that they are going to escalate my case and nothing was done. I'm now 3 1/2 months after installation and inspection and the system is not on. At this point I request to cancel my contract So I can have another company to do the installation. Sunpower refused to cancel my contract. I just retained an attorney to file a lawsuit. I'm a builder and I used another company (SunRun) and the system was active 2 weeks after inspection. STAY AWAY FROM SUNPOWER.
Original Review: Sunpower installed my system on 3/28/24 and until today 6/5/24 the system is not running. I’ve been lied to every day and all the agents handling my account were fired. I just learned that the Sunpower fired over 1000 workers and they will stop doing residential work.

The people that work for SunPower are very driven towards the company. They're good people. But how things get done in conclusion is not good. I signed the papers in April 13th of 2023. They wrapped up to bring me online in April of 2024. And they said that because I elected to lease the system, they tried to take all the people that were buying it at the end of 2023 so they could take their deductions. I said, that shouldn't matter, but it did. And when they finally brought it online, I had a monitoring module that was not working and a panel that was not working on the system. So, they came back out. They didn't replace the panel, but they replaced the module. And they were going to replace the panel. The last time that they were out was over a month ago and that panel is still not working.
It was a ground installation. I wanted it 10 feet from the side property line. The guy said, "We do it normally 15 feet. I can do it but they don't like it." He was a nice young guy. I said, "I don't want you getting in trouble. So go ahead and put it at 15 feet." That was the only communication we had about that type of ground installation. But it's not 15 feet. It's 17.5 feet. And on the other end, they followed the grade of the land. I have a drop-off. Nobody told me they would follow the grade of the property. So, it slopes down.
They came out because I told them it wasn't what I liked. And if they could take it out to try to appease me. It's 100 feet where it is to my roof. When they came out, they said, "How about if we put it on the roof?" I said, "I don't want it on the roof. I want it over here on the ground. I don't want things up on my roof." They said, "Okay. So what can we do?" I said, "You can move it in the back and level it off. So that from one edge to the other doesn't have this big slope to it. You can do that or you can take it out." I got this guy to call me up and said, "You've been dealing with everybody else. Now you're dealing with the top. So, let's fix the problem." That's the biggest joke going. It still hasn't been fixed, and they're not looking to fix it.
There is one other issue. My house to over on the north fence line, I have a water line going across there. When they came out to do the installation, they had to go across that water line. I told them where it was. They cut through it. Okay, things happen. They did the repair. When they came back out and brought out a bobcat and trencher with them, they cut through it again. Didn't they learn from the first time? And they cut some electrical line that I had coming off of the house. When I did the initial complaint, SunPower sent out a guy because I complained about how it was located. He said, "Weren't you here when they did the install?" I said, "Are you joking? You saying this is my fault? Are you the professional?"
Unless I call them again about that panel, I'm still waiting for a repair. If I have an issue, they don't just have it on a schedule, come out and take care of it. They would wait until I called back to complain. I had this issue and nobody did anything. Very smart SunPower. They sent me one of those to evaluate how they did. I said, "Good luck." I zeroed everything out. The next morning, I got a phone call. "I saw that you did the review." I started laughing. I said, "Now you wanna know me. All this time, nobody's returning my phone calls, nobody's coming to see what they can do for me. I give you a bad review and you call me." Would I recommend them? No.

We've been waiting months for this system to get going. They installed the panels, and they made mistakes in where they put the battery. Then it takes a long time to get things redrawn and redone. So, so far, our experience has not been good. We're still waiting for an inspection that's supposed to be on the 6th of June. When I initiate calls, they're great about answering the phone. But sometimes, they don't have the information or they barely got the information, and haven't had a chance to call. So it's been fine, except that I have to initiate so much.
The installation initially was great. But we were not told that it didn't pass inspection. So again, we sit around and we wait to see what's gonna happen next. After we finally found out why it didn't pass, we found out that the things have to be redrawn by SunPower and that took several weeks and several phone calls on my part to find out what was going on. But when the system works, it works okay. SunPower is new and their salespeople are so powerful that they're selling more than they can service. I would hesitate to recommend it to anyone at this time. The people I've talked with about servicing tell me that companies start up and then they quit. So far, SunPower is good. In-between there was a little bit of a duration when the app wouldn't show the amount of solar production, but besides that, it's going well. Installation was very good. The only issue I had was that the person who was taking care of the thing didn't tell me the choices in terms of all the different panels I could have. So, there are certain other panels which are a little more costly, but they have much longer life and, production-wise, they're better. I was hoping I could get those, but he did not tell me and I got to know about that later. When I called him, he said, "Swadesh, even if I told you, we didn't have that available." That was why he didn't offer that. I also asked him, in case the production of solar goes down, what would be my option then. He said, "Then I will take a look at it in case it goes down. Then we'll figure out a way for changing the panels that's required."

SunPower completed my installation and battery backup two months ago. It’s the end of May 2024. I had to arrange the Final County Inspection myself. I could not get anyone to return a call or schedule someone to come for the final. Nobody returns my calls or texts or emails. Everything works but is not connected to the utility, PG&E. I need Sunpower, the contractor of record, to commission my system, whatever that is, and arrange for PG&E to inspect and connect me. I am holding the full amount pending completion. IS ANYONE STILL WORKING AT SUNPOWER?

I had SunPower solar installed in October 2023. I was generally happy with the experience, despite some delays in the installation and additional costs that were not part of the initial estimate. Unfortunately, 2 of the installed panels have not been working properly since about the time of installation. I alerted customer service 2 months ago and the issue could not be resolved remotely. I've contacted customer service many times since and they still have not scheduled anyone to come fix the panels nor can they give me a timeline in which I can expect a solution.
On the positive side, their customer service people do answer the phones and it is easy to speak with an actual person. However, they don't seem to have the ability to resolve my issue nor the training to keep customers happy when problems arise (for example, they could provide a timeline to solve the problem, contact me directly when weeks have gone by without a solution, and outline the steps they are taking to resolve the issue). These panels were a very large investment for us, and I expected better customer service.

On hold for over 20 minutes but they still could not connect me with anyone who could give me an answer. I text my two sales reps this morning. No answer. But I was told last week that even after my local inspection PSEG can take 2-6 weeks to issue PTO! Had our SunPower solar running for 2 weeks then a rain came. Now we have a soaked attic with wet insulation, wet wood. The dozen or more panels we had installed...ONE was correct! Now we have mold growing, kitchen that needs repair and a wet attic. Our 40-year home is now a horror story and we pray we don’t get sick from mold and that our ceiling doesn’t fall down. SunPower customer service is a joke and between pointing fingers and crickets it is hard to make any progress with this problem. After SunPower sent men to see the problem our solar has not worked at all.,so we pay solar bill and PGE bill.
When you try to contact them about resolution...CRICKETS. We are seniors dealing with things that we did not cause. We even had one man at SunPower tell us this was our financial responsibility. Unbelievable…2 weeks, rain, ruined kitchen ceiling and possibly my hardwood floors also, no solar at all now but paying bills…and this was our doing and our problem. We waited years to make the decision to have solar installed and now this horrible story is our result... so apparently we made the wrong decision!
We should be enjoying our senior years instead we are facing problems and financial costs to repair our home because SunPower refuses to acknowledge the problem, have their own people look at the damage and repair our home and turn the solar back on! At one point my 70-year-old husband was told to crawl into our attics and take pictures and videos…really?
This is so unsatisfactory I can do nothing but rant and worry. Please, before you hire solar make sure they know what they are doing. Even I as an elderly woman know when the screw or nail just goes through easily you missed your stud or the wood...but they didn’t care. They put these panels on my home with only ONE being done properly where the holes would not leak... just crazy and such shotty work. Again, please do your research so you don’t end up like us...sitting in our lovely home with mold and moisture inside and in the attic.

Updated on 05/26/2024: Thanks for reaching out. There was confusion around what was meant by "denied taking funds from commission." SunPower just wanted funds to be paid directly instead as accounting wise the commission account was already closed (something along those lines).
Original review: Poorly managed and lack of desire to help customers. I was charged for a service that was not rendered and SunPower refuses to work with their retailer to refund the commission, on work that was never done. When trying to figure out why I had the extra charge SunPower had no documentation on the cost of equipment delivered or what was charged for what, seems they have little idea what is going on in their own books.

It has a disappointing experience dealing with Sunpower Solar. Our inverter became defective, and the system stopped working. It has been six months since it was reported. We are still waiting for the company to arrange for a replacement of the inverter. When I called the manufacturer, I was told those inverters on shipping hold. It may take another six months. They did offer to sell us a newer updated version which is available now. Sun Power never mentioned about the availability of a newer model. I have been paying extra $200 to $250 every month on my electric bill. It seems like the company does not really care once it has been installed. I was actually planning to add more solar panels from Sunpower; However, I do not think I can trust them anymore. I would not recommend this company to anyone shopping for Solar Power installation.

My case # is **. I had solar installed approximately 4 years ago. This past January 2024, I noticed leaks in my attics ….all where the panels were mounted. I was told to provide a roofing report with pictures for SunPower. I actually got two (2) reports both stating that I had water damage and mold growth in the plywood underneath my shingles ….all where the panels are mounted. The roofing reports clearly indicate my roof is now compromised and a new roof with some new decking needs to be installed. SunPower refuses to deal with the plywood damage. They claim the warranty does not deal with such damage. Their warranty approach is to lift up my panels, apply some type of roof patch and then re-mount the panels.
This approach had to be discovered after a multitude of phone calls, 3 different case managers, and plenty of broken promises. It took 2 months to get SunPower to understand that I need them to take the panels off my roof so I can re-roof my home. Now that I finally have a service date to remove the panels (5/23) SunPower refuses to give me a date to re-install my panels until my new roof is installed (scheduled 5/24). To make matters worse, SunPower refuses to pay for my roof sections damaged by their improper panel mounting. When I ask to speak to supervisors or have a SunPower rep to visit my home to directly witness my damaged home, the answer is, "We don’t do that." SunPower is giving a black eye to the Solar Panel Industry AND letting down their customers.

My experience with SunPower has been nothing short of horrible. This company has shown total disrespect for the customer. Sun Power came to my home 3.5 years ago inspected my roof and deemed the roof to have significant life left. I have now had a leaking roof since October 2023, Sun Power has sent me a quote of over $10,000.00+ to remove my 39 panels and replace them, this $10,000.00+ will significantly eat into any savings I might realize for a considerable time. Had I been told the truth by Sun Power I would have been able to replace my roof 3.5 years ago and saved over $10,000.00+. Sun Power has basically said to me sorry you have signed the lease and they cannot help in any way.
I'd like to advise any and all people thinking about using Sun Power to closely look into any agreements and or contracts. In my opinion this company should be a company to avoid at all costs. Love the company but having a bad experience just with getting installed. I figured out I was getting mediocre panels with u-series (waaree panels). I want the M-series that have much better feedback on. They did explain to me but I don’t really remember and I am not a solar expert but I did research because I heard it from multiple people that they weren’t the best panels and I was told again literally days before installation and did some research. Sure enough they were mediocre panels. I want to switch but they are telling me that I have to go through permitting all over again and that was the worst experience I had with SunPower. It took 3 months just for permits. I hate to do this but I’m just going to cancel and take my business somewhere else. Just make sure you know the panels you are getting and do your research and make sure you feel comfortable with what they are offering you.

I have been such a SunPower fan, until the roof started leaking less than 6 months after the solar panels were installed. Our roofer told us that the panels had been installed incorrectly and had sunk into the roof, causing a depression in which water was gathering and leaking down into our bathroom. We needed to have the solar panels temporarily removed so that the roofer could fix the roof. We were worried about the expense, but since we were under warranty we assumed SunPower would make things right, and quickly.
We contacted SunPower when there was a pin-sized hole in the roof. Now the hole is the length of my arm and is pouring water into buckets. They have dragged their feet every step of the way. A person finally came out and basically confirmed that, yup, it's leaking and it's their fault. He needs to "talk to a manager". When will the roof be repaired? They don't know. Who will pay for all the damage, both to the roof and to the bathroom ceiling and walls? They don't know. Every time I contact the SunPower line, I end up speaking to a woman in India who has a rooster crowing in the background so loud I can barely hear or understand her. She definitely doesn't know anything or care about my problem. I had to reach out to our salesman to ask HIM to find someone to talk to us; he's sending my photos and texts to the regional manager who, surprise, isn't calling or contacting us.
I *do* get daily emails from SunPower support telling me that they'll happily bypass the warranty and get right on this if I want to pay $6,500 out-of-pocket. That's money I don't have and, again, we're under warranty and this is their fault. As I write this there is water streaming from our ceiling into a bucket. I wish I'd never heard of SunPower. I'm writing this review in the hopes that maybe someone at the company might care enough about reviews to call me.

This is by far the worst company I have ever worked with. The customer service is absolutely terrible and I would not recommend to my worst enemy. My roof started leaking after installation and both roofing companies explained and wrote out that it was due to the solar brackets and installation of the panels that ruined my roof. Prior to installation Sunpower inspected my roof and approved for installation therefore it stands to reason that it is now a bad roof due to the panels.
I have tried to get someone to help me for over 6 months and when I finally did receive an email back since that is how they like to communicate Suzie is the only one that can help me and is by far the worst customer service advocate possible. She stated it was not their fault regarding the roof and after sending the roofing companies notes that it was she stated it couldn't be proven it was.... even though they inspected and said it was okay prior. She then quoted me a price of $15K to take them off and reinstall in addition to a new roof! They are not willing to cover anything or help in any way.
I can't even get them to respond that I was quoted a price in the beginning that if they needed to come off it would only be $1,500 therefore $15K is absurd! Calling customer service does nothing since they tell me the only person in that position to help is Suzie and there is no one above her which seems very shady. She has not called me back and my roof is still leaking. I am worried about my family's wellbeing however they still do nothing, wondering if they will when my roof caves in. Awful, unprofessional, and absolutely a con of a company! DO NOT USE!

I had solar panels installed about 4 1/2 years ago. At first I was very happy with the service and product. Recently, my roof began to leak. I called a roofer and was told that I need a new roof and he stated that I should have been told to put a new roof before installing solar panels. So I had to reach out to Sunpower to remove the panels before the new roof could be installed. This is where the problems began.
I called Justin who was my Sunpower point person to find out that he shut down his office and the numbers were not valid. I called the 800 # for Sunpower and spoke to ALI. She assured me that she would help. She researched in the system and informed me that the roof was under warranty. She attempted to call On Force Solar Inc. who is the installer and repairer for Sunpower. During my 55 minute phone conversation, she placed me on hold several times and was unable to reach them. Ali emailed On Force Solar Inc. She gave me their address, phone # and email address..
Two weeks have gone by and no response. The phone rings, a recording says the calls are recorded, machine voice passes me, I hold while music plays and then the recorded message says no one is available to help me and they hang up on me. 17 phone calls and 2 emails. Sunpower says they cannot help me and I must call On Force Solar because it is out of their hands. I cannot have the roof fixed until the panels are removed.. Now I am also concerned that the 30 year warranty on the panels is fake. I was told that if a panel was damaged or stopped working, it would be replaced…. How is this possible if they refused to answer a phone or respond to an email…I now have AllState insurance assisting me ..EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SUNPOWER – THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NON-EXISTENT WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. We installed SunPower solar panels on our home in December 2018. On September 13, 2023, I realized that three micro-inverters were no longer working, and I reported that to SunPower. I started calling them weekly to get warranty replacements and SunPower kept giving me different reasons why they could not complete the repairs. The original contractor that represented SunPower has since stopped working with them because they were unable to get parts themselves and be paid for warranty work by SunPower. SunPower then told me they had the parts but did not have a contractor in the area and were having problems finding someone to do the work.
After filing a complaint with BBB in 2023, I was contacted by two different “escalation specialists” who have not done anything either. The latest excuse is that the parts are out of stock, and they do not know when they will receive them. What I kept asking was if they were getting parts for new installs, why were they unable to get parts for warranty replacements. I still have not received an answer to that question – only that “the parts are under supply constraints, and we are still pending the delivery of the needed parts.” They will not return phone calls and now have stopped responding via email.

My initial experience with SunPower was positive. Installation ran smoothly and the panels did produce electricity resulting in a savings with my electric bill. However recently my panels stopped working and I have been getting a run around for almost six weeks with regard to getting my system back online so that it can produce the electricity I was promised when I purchased the system. I placed my first call on Feb. 2, 2024. We tried to troubleshoot the problem and were not successful. They attempted to resolve the issue remotely with no luck. I was then directed to Centurion Solar for the needed service call. I left a message for their customer service department (it seems that was the only option every time I called) and never got a call back. I contacted SunPower again who directed me to another company. I was able to speak with their representative who said I should not have been directed to them as they don't service systems.
Back to SunPower again and again directed to Centurion Solar. A work order was put in with Centurion and I received an email confirmation of this on Feb. 28, 2024. I called and left yet another message with Centurion (even though I was told they would call me to schedule a service call). No response AGAIN so I called SunPower today (Mar. 16, 2024).
This time they told me they had received an email from Centurion on Mar. 13, 2024 telling them they were trying to locate someone who could address the work order. I asked why someone from SunPower could not address my issue as my electricity bill has been over $1,000 per month since the system went out and I don't even have a date for when the work will be done. I was told that wasn't an option and that I would need to wait for Centurion. Apologies were offered for the delay but as I pointed out to the representative that didn't pay my electric bill. I also asked her if she were in my place would the lack of service be acceptable to her? I did promise that I would give an honest review of the company. I have kept my word, unlike SunPower has done.

SunPower Complete Confidence Warranty?!? One of my inverters stopped working in October 2023. It took weeks for Sunpower to get someone out to check the problem. When someone finally came, the worker was unable (physically) to go on the roof and troubleshoot there. He only checked the broken inverter in my garage. His diagnosis was the inverter was bad and I needed a new one, except Sunpower wants to have someone go on the roof to be sure. A couple months go by with zero response. I needed to place multiple phone calls to Sunpower asking for this to be done as they are not proactive and weeks will go by with no responses. Then I received an email that one of their subcontractors (Las Vegas) copied me on and said, and I quote, "We respectfully decline this work request. Until the overdue 2023 invoices have been paid to us by SunPower, we will not be accepting additional work requests."
Wow. Should I be worried? Sunpower not paying their bills and cannot get a subcontractor out to fix/replace my inverter. It has now been 5 months and still not working. Sunpower has shown no urgency in fixing this for me. Do they understand that every day that passes is money lost with my panels not generating any power? I am at a loss right now as calling them never gets me anywhere. Perhaps I will need legal counsel. It's a shame because I spoke so highly of Sunpower for years to friends and family that asked about my solar system.

Sunpower provides the worst customer experience. We have a roof reinstalled last year and scheduled reinstallation of the solar panel. We scheduled an appointing, the technician came and saying that they missed some parts which needs to be ordered but will be shipped very soon. I asked if they could come back after the parts came, they said they would. But they didn't after waiting for a week. I called to reschedule another, they came again, again, they missed some parts. So I scheduled one more, they came, they still miss some parts. I scheduled another one, this time, they finished, and said they would give us some update. It turned out the solar is still not working. I called the customer service, they just sent us emails daily saying they are trying to connect with the technician, yet nothing happens. So I called them again, they ask to schedule another appointment to check why it's not working. It has been already 4 - 5 months, and we are still waiting for our next appointment. BTW, each time when we schedule, we have to wait for a month or so for the next appointment.

I can't tell you how disappointed we are with the customer service. We got our panels installed in August 2023 and our electric bills have been almost $300/mo every month and it's now March! I have called several times to try to get this looked at, and have gotten mixed messages from each rep and zero follow up, it's like I have to start over every time. The tech who came out said he was replacing the solar unit the first time, then he said that wasn't the issue, they needed to rewire, and apparently that took place but then customer service knew nothing about any of it - they just keep saying "we are still testing and will call you in 24 hours" which never happens.
I've spoken to multiple people who are clearly in a call center in another country reading from a script, who have ALL promised they'd follow up with me within 24 hours via phone and email, and haven't gotten a response from anyone. I've had to call back numerous times, waiting on hold to finally talk to someone who does nothing to help move this along. It's now escalated, but does that even mean anything?
Meanwhile, we are left with hefty electric bills on top of the fees we paid for solar. We went with Sunpower over a competitor because we were told they'd be monitoring our system, which gave us the peace of mind that they would be checking in to ensure it was working properly and we had the right amount of panels, etc. That is not happening. Somebody needs to be held accountable for these expenses we are incurring, and it should not be us. We were supposed to be saving money, not doubling our expenses. This is insane. Huge buyer's remorse.

Let me begin by saying I have only left one negative review for a company in my life. Just writing this makes me sick... I feel others should know about my experience before making a HUGE purchase such as solar panels on their homes. Let's start with the facts... The company promises but does not in any way to live up to the promise. This was a $70K project.
1) The project managers are so overwhelmed you're not going to receive a response in a timely manner. Sometimes weeks. The project will be delayed (which one can argue is normal for construction).
2) The workmanship is terrible. I wish I could post pictures to show the trash, nails, plastic, roofing shingles, metal bars, and food wrappers that were left on my roof when the solar installation was complete. God only knows what the attic looks like because I haven't been there.
3) Installation was delayed and then the permitting was delayed months. This means I was paying my $300 solar bill every month and PG&E electric bill simultaneously for three months. When I contacted Sunpower about this I was told I would get a refund. That's great right? But nothing happened. Then I contacted them again, and I was assured a refund process will begin. Then my "case" was escalated. I haven't heard anything since October 2023. This is after 5 emails, 6 phone calls. Still no response and we are now In February, 14th 2024.
4) It gets worse. Last month there was a leak in my roof. The roof is brand new. I contacted the roofing company and was shown pictures of how the solar panels were not installed properly by Sunpower. This was $450 to patch (not repair, just a temporary patch to stop the water from the rain coming into my home as it was destroying the drywall and flooring. You would think the solution is simple right? Call Sunpower have them fix it? Well, it's been almost one month, and Sunpower has called and messaged me now 3 times, asking the same questions about the roof. Meanwhile nothing has been done. They took one week just to confirm the install was under warranty. After that happened my roof is still not fixed nor the $450 refunded.
I did my research and thought this was a great company to go with for solar panels. I'm so disappointed. You will have one person tell you something and another say something else. Your problems and concerns will receive no response once the project is complete and you sign the paperwork. This was a $70K install. Once they get your money you are left in the dust. So sad... Gluck with your solar journey and please do your due diligence before choosing a company.

The initial installation wasn’t performed according to what was promised by sales person. Even though there was already a SunPower installation by the home builder, SunPower failed to leverage it and had to do run wires outside. The panels were installed within a month of when we signed the papers, but then the hook-up to getting an electrician to my location took five months and just dragged on and on. They had to send somebody from Iowa and it took a while. They're out of town and they were trying to figure out how to get people to my location. But the installation was done well. The only thing I've been picky about is that one of the conduit lines for electricity wasn't connected all the way. Maybe some rain was getting in between there and the electric line. But the rest of it was done perfectly. My electric bill definitely has been lower since then. The equipment is working and it seems to be installed correctly.

I liked that SunPower was local and it was a pretty easy sale for their sales rep. He sold the product and he did a good job. They gave me a timeline for the installation initially when I signed the contract and it was a little bit delayed because our local electric coop took a little longer. But they got right on it once they started and got it taken care of. I've had a couple of problems with a leaking roof since then, and they've come out and fixed it right away.
The panels are on my shed, which is detached from my house. I've got 400 amp service coming in where 200 goes to my house and 200 goes to my shed. So, the meter only reads what's in my shed. With the app, I can see what my business is using, but as far as producing versus what I'm using total, it doesn't really work. But that's a one-off issue. Most people don't have that issue. Other than that, I'm super happy with my decision to go solar. There's a customer service line that I can reach if I need to know my figures and I can also see that on my electric coop's app on Corn Belt, including my usage. So far, I very rarely have an electric bill anymore. Usually, in January, I have to pay a little bit, but that's because our coop resets my credit. But for the rest of the year, I generate more than I use, but not excessively.

The SunPower salesperson we talked to was very informative and he gave us all of the options for our specific home setting. He helped guide us to make a decision on how many panels we needed for our situation then, after we signed the contract, he handed us off to some kind of project coordinator and she let us know everything every step of the way. It was all very professional and efficient.
The installation was great, too. A huge team of people came and they were very organized. They already had from that project coordinator the details of our situation, and somebody already came, scoped everything out, and planned it. So that went off flawlessly. It took two days to complete which was less than the timeline they gave me, which was good. So far, our energy bill has been really amazing. We have two electric cars we charge and we're still paying so much less to PG&E than we were before. I would tell my friends with confidence that SunPower is a good company and I've referred a few people that ended up signing with them.

We had a good experience. The quote was comparable to a second company's quote. We liked SunPower because of their good history and good reputation. The installation was faster than we expected - especially when considering all the entities involved. There were two issues that ended up slowing things down a bit. The first was that the roof needed to be supported in a few places because it was soft. The installers added 2x4s in certain places under the roof. The second was that the utilities electricity meter and wire needed to be replaced because of its poor condition. That was also taken care of. A bit of a slow down because of these things but glad the installers noticed these things and help take care of them. The panels have been up and running for a week now and they are generating about as much as was expected. So we recommend this company.

They gave me the information and I had to put in the information online. But the installation was great and the installer, Jeff, was fantastic. His team was here on time and they did what they were supposed to do. Everything got completed within three months. There was a problem with one of the panels and it was nine months later when they caught it. They called me up, checked it, and replaced it. When they came in, they had their electrician and it was all done in one day.
Aside from that, I live in an old house and the panel had shorted out a long time ago. I had somebody fix it and they did a bad job. But the electrician who came with the installers from SunPower did a fantastic job on the panel. Also, when the county guy came over, he told them that he loved working with them because they do a good job. So far, I'm very satisfied in going solar. When I do service calls, I call SunPower and then they pass me on to Mulholland. Then Mulholland passes me on to Abraxas. That's the frustrating part, because I called last month and tried to reach out to the same chain, but still haven't heard anything. I still have an issue with my solar panels. It's like going through all these chains when SunPower should, on their side, just call the shots and get it done. As of today, I still have a little thing that says one or more devices are not properly working. Right now, it's saying I'm producing 2.3 kilowatts and I'm feeding off the grid 1.9. I do enjoy having the system. It has saved me quite a bit of money. Back in June, July and August, my bills were $500 or $600. But now, it's a third of the cost during those peak times of the season.

I figured going solar would help me on the electric bill but so far, it really hasn't. I'm a little bit frustrated because I told the SunPower salesperson that talked to us that we need to get a 200 amp service box put outside. We have a 100 amp service but our bills are still $250 a month. He said to not worry about it and he'd take care of it and absorb the cost of the new 200 amp panel. They got it going really fast after the paperwork was signed, but we were gone at the time. We didn't know they were coming in to put in the system. About a week later, we got back and I found out the system was in and there was no 200 amp box in there as promised.
Then, when their workers came to finish up some wiring and they put it all together, they had to redo some stuff because the box wasn't big enough to put all the stuff in there. They had to cut back on a component or two to get the wire back together. Plus we had to push with all of our might just to get the face plate back into the box. On top of that, they went to start up the system and they blew the system, because somebody who previously put in the wire kept the insulation. It was arcing from the big power surge through the wires and it was grounding out to the boxes. They still haven't been out to fix that and I still don't have my 200 amp box.
The guy who promised us this box called us up and said that there were some other added things that had to happen and he couldn't cover the box. He said it was gonna cost about $3,500 to have that 200 amp box brought in here. He said he was willing to split the cost with us but that wasn't what he promised. Then, I got a call from the company that said if they could get me together with one of their representatives and work out a compromise. I told them the only thing I wanted worked out is that that box gets replaced as was promised. If the rep is gonna regurgitate the same information that they were telling me, there is no need to talk. They said the guy didn't put it in the specs and he didn't say that the box needed to be replaced. I told them they could come out and get this whole system out of here.
I haven't heard from them in two weeks and my system still isn't running. And it's pretty expensive. I've been lied to, taken advantage of, and bait-and-switched. I still have the same 100 amp service that's inadequate. They did a nice job with the installation of all the panels, though. I'm happy about that. It looks great and professional.

But I've tried my hardest to be patient and understanding and our family has reached it's limit. While the techs who have come to our house have been amazing, Sunpower constantly switched them out or completely skipped sending them various times. Our installation started early summer 2023 and is still not done.
Issues we've experienced with Sunpower:
1- Communication: Extremely poor communication and time management from project managers. At one point an inspection was scheduled BEFORE installation was completed. They're also constantly pulling the techs that were already familiar with our house and project to send new people out.2- False promises: We received 2 broken panels and a battery that has not worked for the past 5 months. It was also not the battery that was documented in our loan. NO explanation was given for why it was changed. When we emailed to ask, radio silence.
3- Cost: They started charging us for our loan starting in AUGUST 2023... We are still not fully operation and are paying BOTH the Sunpower loan AND our Eversource bill.

Our system was installed in 2014 by a SunPower-certified company, and since then has failed multiple times (at least 6?) due to equipment malfunctions. Getting it back online typically takes months, during which time we generate no electricity. Getting Sunpower to stand behind their warranties is incredibly difficult. Usually, we find the problem ourselves (despite the claim that they will notify us of a problem, they have never done so in the 9 years we've owned the system), then our installer inspects the system and files a claim with SunPower.
We are supposed to wait to hear from SunPower, but weeks go by and then I follow up. I spend an hour on the phone with them while they tell me to the installer has to inspect the system and file a claim (yes, done), then they find the claim and say it was denied because our system is out of warranty (it is not). A second claim is then filed and we wait again, same runaround.
SunPower always says, despite their provided documentation, that their warranties vary - for example 3 to 10 years on inverters (no document I was provided, nor have found on their website ever, says this, so caveat emptor). Huge delays also occur because they always point the finger at our installer ("you need to contact your installer for this"), and the installer points fingers back at them ("SunPower holds the warranty so we need to go through them"). I am surprised that there is not a class action suit against this company because we can't be the only ones who have experienced this malarkey. It would be funny except we have lost at least one-third of our expected power generation because of these ridiculous delays.
Hi Lisa, we are sorry to read that you have had issues with your systems performance as well as the system warranty and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. After 7 years of satisfying experience with Sunpower, my recent issues with getting service has soured my view of the company. In the past, I’ve received excellent and prompt service for various issues. Six months ago, unknown to me, my system went down. In the past couple years I haven’t been diligent in monitoring the system, so it took a couple months for me to find out because I got a surprising electric bill. So I called for service, which was to leave a message and I was supposed to get an e-mail response, which seemed strange because I got a direct call for issues in the past. After waiting for a couple weeks I called again. No response. Then a month later I got a call that I would get service in a two months! What? Ridiculous, but what alternative is there. Still waiting for that service next month, but I’m convinced that this is the worst service I’ve ever had with any company.

New subdivision, 200 homes; all have same system and panels. Neighbors produce more electricity than they use. Our system 79% for 2023. We are receiving an $800 true up bill; neighbors with same system panels, etc., $0. Sunpower insists all is well and will not have technical support physically come to check our system. We would not recommend them!!

Followup: Ten weeks after our solar system became nonfunctional a Sunpower technician arrived at our home. During that time we spoke to half a dozen people at Sunpower as well as posting our experience on social media, but the technician who arrived at our door was unaware of the problem; his instructions said that he was simply to perform a load test. Apparently, because we are not leasing the system, there is no production guarantee and we are not a priority when our system fails. We are left to use up our credit and pay electric bills! Now we can only hope that the root cause of the problem has been corrected.

We have been very disappointed and dissatisfied with the service as well as the product supplied by SunPower. After several months of waiting we had a SunPower 14-panel solar system with SunVault battery backup system installed on our home at the end of July 2023. Unfortunately, the system never operated properly at full capacity and and by October 31 it was nonfunctional and stopped producing any power, apparently due to a fault in the battery. We reported this promptly and the team at Sunpower informed us that we had to wait until next year (10 weeks) before they would send a technician to deal with the problem. In general, we have found SunPower to be very unresponsive when we asked for assistance, and it is often unclear who we should contact. I would not recommend Sunpower Solar systems to anyone.

We purchased solar from SunPower about two years ago after carefully researching several companies. My salesperson, Zachary **, he was very helpful with answering all my questions and selling me service. After a year and a half we noticed that we were paying extra on our electric bill, so I reached out to Mr. ** via phone and email to reevaluate my system to see if I required more panels. He never returned my communications. So, I emailed someone else in financing to get in touch with him and he finally responded. We talked and he said he would investigate the issue and I never heard back from him.
A few weeks later I called customer service and they said I should purchase a consumption monitor, which I did, It took two weeks to send me the invoice and would have been longer if I didn’t continue to call them. After purchasing the monitor, which is shipped to them, they said a scheduler would reach out to me to schedule installation, but no one has called yet. That was about three weeks ago. So I don’t have the monitor and they have my money. This entire process has taken nearly four months and I’ve still haven’t heard from anyone at SunPower. They take your money and could care less about them incorrectly evaluating your system and you losing money. DO NOT BUY YOUR SOLAR FROM SUNPOWER.

Extremely horrible customer service when it comes to request service. I contacted them two months ago to schedule a service visit and they mentioned multiple times they submitted a service request but nobody contacts me to schedule service. I send emails and get no response. I finally submitted a BBB complaint and someone contacted me but it is still useless so far. The most recent representative is asking for information (which I already submitted a month ago) and taking a whole week to follow up and ask more questions. Each question takes another whole week to follow up. Their "industry leading warranty" is terrible. They still have not sent anyone to check the system on site.

Did not have an issue with my SunPower system for few years and then electrical bill started going up. Electric company advised that I contact Solar company as it seems my solar system is not producing enough electricity. I called them to schedule a service appointment. It has been the most frustrating experience ever! They keep telling me we send a request for service and they will call you to schedule a visit but nobody ever contacts me, nobody ever answers email and I call again to go through the same cycle again. I am quite shocked by their rating and I assume most of those who gave them high ratings have not attempted yet to use their so-called "industry-leading warranty".
After getting the run around from them, I started researching and learned that they settled a class action lawsuit couple years ago that required them to replace faulty components they sold to their customers. Looks like giving people the runaround and not standing by their product is nothing new to them. Had I known how hard it is to get repairs done or it use the warranty, I would have never gone with SunPower. Their high ratings are pretty misleading.

My solar wasn't working for 2 1/2 months earlier this year. It was right at the best time to help with your true up bill (March-May). My true up bill went up to $1,880, after SunPower came out and finally fixed my electrical problem they offered me $339 to help with my $1,880 true up bill, what a complete joke!! Don't waste your time with this company, they don't back up what they say. I feel like this is breach of contract on their end because I'm leasing the panels and they are supposed to maintain them. What a let down, if you're seriously interested in solar, find an alternative to SunPower!!

We enlisted SunPower to install our solar system over a year ago and they had it installed rather quickly. The installation went smoothly EXCEPT they didn't install the consumption monitor which was included in what we paid for. They explained after the fact that it couldn't be installed in our 100-amp service panel and there wasn't enough room. They informed me that if I upgraded our service panel they would be able to come back and install the monitor free of charge.
After having the system for about 9 months, we upgraded our service panel to a 200-amp service with plenty of room for their consumption monitor. Trying to get Sunpower to get this final part completed has been an absolute nightmare! We opened the trouble ticket with Sunpower in May of 2023 and as of October it still isn't installed or completed. This has been after at least ten different documented phone calls with SunPower's team to get this finished.
They contract some work out to NovaSource Power Services who is responsible for installing the device. After hounding them for several months they finally scheduled to send out a technician to install the device but he couldn't find it in any of their warehouses and we were back to the phone calls again. When NovaSource returned with the part, the technician had no idea what he was doing and installed it incorrectly. Again, back to the phone calls between both SunPower and NovaSource. In summary, the solar system runs well, but don't expect any decent support after you've paid and have the system installed. It has been an absolute nightmare dealing with them since installation.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns, Tim! We reached out with a private message to provide additional assistance. It is our sincere hope to improve upon your experience.

Updated on 11/21/2023: I wrote my original review on October 10, 2023 about Sunpower's customer support. It is now November 20th and my issue still has not been fixed. Somebody from sunpower wrote a good response to my review. Told me what I wanted to hear but nothing was done! New customers/ buyers beware. Customer service is very bad. They do not get back to you. Problems get sent to an escalation case manager but nothing gets done. Go with another solar company. I’m sure support will be better than sunpower. It has to be.
Original Review: I took over a a SunPower lease from the builder of my home. From the beginning I had trouble with this company. First I had trouble getting the account switched over to my name because SunPower was unable to reach the home builder that they had a contract with to pay their final bill. Finally got it put into my name. It took weeks.
Then I had a communication error with the solar panels. Contacted customer support. They tried to troubleshoot the problem over the phone but were not able to fix the problem. So they put a ticket in to have it reviewed. It took a month to apparently get it reviewed and they sent a technician out to diagnose the problem. Turns out I had a part that was not working that was causing the connection problem. Tech had to submit the problem to SunPower. A week and a half later I had the part replaced. Communication probably is now fixed but led to another problem.
Their app does not show me any data that it is supposed to. How much power has been generated, power used, or if I am using power from the grid or power that was generated. It had been 1 week since I contacted customer support about this problem and they still can’t explain anything to me. They just told me that it was escalated from a tier 1 problem to a tier 2 problem and that I have to wait. I have been in my new home for almost 3 months and they can’t get their system to function as described in their videos. Has to be the worst customer service I have experienced as a new customer. I would NEVER recommend this company to anybody I know. If you do give them a try hopefully you have better luck then I have with them.
Manny, we're sorry to hear that you are having issues with the app and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Your case has been escalated but we went ahead and added your review to the case and submitted it for further investigation and follow-up. Had a good experience with SunPower in 2014 so decided to use them in 2022 to expand my system to address rising true up bills. Paid appropriately $48,000 cash. Told them that I had been informed by multiple contractors that my main electrical panel was overloaded and needed replacement before adding Anything! I was told I would receive a quote. The quote never came and the Salesperson kept pressuring me to sign saying I could always do it later. I trusted the Sunpower brand so I signed to get protect going.
Shortly after system was turned on, I started experiencing electrical issues. I reported them - over and over - and kept getting told that my matter had been escalated and my issue was going to addressed immediately. Help never came and electrical issues continued to worsen. Then my appliances started to burn out. Again I was trying to get Sunpower to send out someone to evaluate and fix the issue. Despite talking with, emailing and texting my salesperson and project manager, no one showed.
Then my main panel fried leaving us with almost no power to my entire house and the breakers were clicking and sparking - which could have caused a house fire!! Still no response or site visit despite continued cries for help. I finally hired a private electrician who addressed the immediate fire danger and started the process to replace the main panel. PGE came to inspect and the inspector was horrified that the panel had not been replaced (I sent the inspection report to my Sunpower contacts and still nothing). Finally in early April (4/7/23) I talked to a project manager and was promised a crew could be there on 4/28/23! I was horrified! We still had almost no electricity in entire house and were living with extension cords and flashlights.
I complained about the wait and the best he could do was to get someone out on 4/20/23 (2 weeks after the panel fried). The team that ultimately showed up was not a team that handled electrical issues. They told me they would escalate my case to the electrical team. Writing this review on 10/11/23 - no one from Sunpower has come back to do or fix anything.
In the meanwhile, I discovered that while Sunpower was doing some roof repairs (for which I was charged an additional $3080) that they had disposed of my fifteen (15) fully functional solar pool panels! The cost to replace these is around $30,000!! Sunpower has refused to acknowledge any responsibility! After almost 2 months of very limited electricity, my main panel was replaced and PGE approved the permit to operate.
In sum, 3 months after the electrical issues started, I finally had electricity back on in my house thanks to my private electrician. I incurred over $50,000 of out of pocket expenses to repair or replace all that Sunpower damaged or disposed of during the install. My house did not burn down! Had to replace appliances and had countless other costs and major inconveniences due to the issues. And, to date, 10/11/23 - no one from Sunpower has back to evaluate the situation. My calls and emails have been ignored!!!! And my panels are not working even!!!

Ever since it was installed, one of the panels don't generate energy and others are not generating enough in comparison to the rest. All of a sudden getting hold of SunPower to have this resolved (replace those that need to be replaced) has been a problem. They even installed very older version of the system, as against what they going to 10 months since my system was installed. Why should one be paying for a service or product when you're not getting the value for what you are paying for. This whole thing is madness. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID THIS COMPANY. NOT WORTH THE STRESS.

We are under warranty, therefore, if another company touches the panels, the warranty will be void. SunPower told us that they escalated the case and they will be at our home in the next 30 days. (11/3/2023) this is utter madness. This is a dire situation. What if it rain again, more damages will be done to our home. 9-29-23. No STARS!!!! These guys are horrible. Last year in June 2022 we had an arc in our system and I called Sunpower to get this taken care of and because we were not the original purchasers but the new owners of the house (transferable warranty) they had to have all of this paperwork. We complied but they insisted calling and speaking with the previous homeowners.... Why? I have no idea. Sunpower was given a copy of the deed showing the new homeowners (us). In October 2022 they sent a guy who looked at the system and said that they needed to replace the diodes in all of the panels (21 of them, this was a known failure of this panel).
In late November they finally sent a crew out here for an all day job. The one thing they forgot was to let us know and we were leaving for the weekend. Imagine our surprise trying to go on vacation and a work crew comes to work on your roof. They said they had a hard time getting a hold of us. Interesting, because nothing had changed with our address and phone number. Anyways we rescheduled it and when they came out next it was too wet to get onto the roof. Finally 8 months in they sent out a crew and they said it would take all day. The crew came out and were done within 45 minutes. I was surprised and asked them about it, they said yes it was a quick job.
Well a few months later another arc failure came up and then in July 2023 someone else (arbitrary) came out to inspect the previous teams work. I told them about the visit and how quick the other guys were and they then inspected the diodes on the panels only to find that the work crew only replaced the diodes on 3 of the 21 panels. I was livid, this company is so bad and when you call they try to cover for each other and refuse to let you speak to a manager or give their last names. It is crazy.
August 2023 they finally sent out a crew to replace the diodes that were supposed to have been replaced in February and while the guys were working the company sent a safety inspector out to check the guys working, well while the safety guys was on the roof checking their anchors, he dropped one on one of our solar panels and shattered it. I have been calling and trying to get through to someone out here to not only replace the panel but to also speak to a manager about all of this and the bills we have racked up going on for over a year. Ty ** in customer service is the guy I spoke with today and they still have not given me a manager to talk to. This has gone on for over a year. It is now September 2023 and we started in June 2022
10-3-23. Just received an escalated appointment from the previous review on 9-29-23. The best they could get me was October 30th. They broke the panel on 8-17-23. You would have hoped they would have done something this week. Still no call from management regarding any of this or the fact that this all started June 2022. This company is ridiculous! The original inspector told me that Sunpower would pay to remove and reinstall the panels if I needed to reroof in the first 10 years. When I presented this to Sunpower, they told me it would cost me $5000 to do the work; that they offer no warranty on the roof. As licensed contractors, they shouldn't have installed the system until I reroofed the house; they inspected it and said it was fine. Installation time frame was extremely long. After the system was installed, I didn't get inspected by the electric company until I called Sunpower to complain of the delay. I received an email the next day from the utility. I started out doing a comprehensive solar consultation in 2021. The consultant and I designed a system that would encompass my apartment meter (3 floors) and public hallway meter (5 light bulbs). Based on my submission of 2 Con Edison bills (faxed) Sun Power would determined the number of panels needed for both my accounts (meters) I did not find out until 4 months after the project was done and I paid my whole bill that Sun Power only attached the solar panels to my hallway meter. I was told by Con Edison there was no application (open case) submitted by Sun Power that included my apartment and so I would continue to get electricity bill for my apartment.
For months after contacting customer services they tried to tell me they only had one bill from me on file. So they had met their obligation. I contacted the original consultant and he sent an email internally and CC me verifying he uploaded the two bills into Sun Power system. Then they began defining the problem as the solar instruments were attached to the wrong meter as all my energy production going to Con Edison Grid and my public hallway account (4 bulbs). It took many months of representatives telling me to check with my accountant because if they combine the meters it would raise my property taxes.
Finally in 2023, Sun Power said the design team did not put my apartment meter account in the design. It went to escalation team and after a few more months, of me working with my Senators Office they said there was approval for combing the meters and it would be paid by Sun Power. One day on my way out Sun Power worker shows up at my door unexpected and says he was assigned to correct the meter issue. He ended up just taking the solar connection off the public hallway account and attaching it to the apartment meter. I contacted the escalation person and he said that is not what he expected them to do. It was supposed to be a meter combine.
When I called Con Edison to update them on the switch, they said Sun Power did not open a case up for any new actions, and no one is supposed to touch their meter equipment until they are notified by opening up a new case. So in the midst of all this someone called regarding a meter combine. However when I asked had Con Edison been advised and a case opened the person said no, and it would take months and they would not be able to move forward with the combine. I sent an email to the Sun Power escalator to inform him and to ask why after all this time they had not opened a case. My Senator also sent emails regarding this and no one has responded.
Trying to get someone on the phone is impossible. I paid all this money for solar and the only one reaping the benefit is the Grid and Con Ed because 3 years later and I still pay them for my energy use in my apartment. I feel mistreated and this has taken a serious toll on my mental and physical health. I served in the military and at minimum I deserve some respect. Don't you realize that a culture of mistreatment and un-responsiveness is happening. Please help!

The inside flex conduit was stretched like a water hose pulling the wiring from my breaker panels based on how stretched it was. Multiple holes were left in my walls which are still unpatched. When I brought this up to the sales dept. they came out the following week and explained that they needed to add another switch because of the distance but wouldn’t unless I said something. Then of course I paid cash for the system and upon turning it on and immediately not working, everyone had gone silent. The sales rep quit, the project manager has said it’s not his issue and to talk to customer service (on multiple occasions).
When contacted tech support to submit service tickets to get it to work they even mention a ticket should have been submitted after energizing the system but of course the project coordinator doesn’t care so he didn’t. The poor customer service staff try extremely hard to help, but are met with the same, if not worse response from their supervisors to relay to me, which has been ‘we will get back to you’ which they never do. Now I’m sitting with 50k worth of solar panels on my roof, completely dead and useless, and never worked., and the only response I get is ‘our next appt is in October you want to cancel it?! (The install was in July!)
Definitely the worse experience I’ve ever encountered with any company. And what makes it worse is that while the reps try to help, you can hear in their voice they’re met with the same arrogance and helplessness from their own team. SunPower's long history is what brought me to buy their panels, but this has been a nightmare of a company to deal with.

I was confident that my SunPower system would perform as advertised, however, since day one I have been greatly disappointed by its low performance! I’ve contacted SunPower 10 times about the low production of the solar panel system they installed on my roof, however they keep telling me that the weather is the problem; although they can’t tell me why the weather is only affecting 6 of my 14 panels. Also, I have a friend nearby with a comparable SunPower system and the weather isn’t affecting his system which produces 100% of what it was designed to produce. My system is only producing 82% of what it was designed to produce. Six of the solar panels on my roof produce only 92%, 90%, 89%, 83%, 82%, and 69% of capacity. The SunPower warranty says that each panel will produce no less than 98% for the 1st year.
When I looked at my roof, I noticed some problems with the system that SunPower installed. The wires coming out of several of the micro-inverters were bent backwards sharply going 180 degrees to another component. It looks like the wires were too short and they forced them to reach their connection points. Additionally, the production lights on several of the micro-inverters were not on. This was while the sun was shining brightly. Lastly, the solar panels are installed at a tilt angle of 14 degrees instead of 34 degrees. In my area, they recommend 34 degrees.

Started the process of getting Sunpower to start installing my panels in March 2022. They finally put the panels on my house in November 2022. I’m writing this in August 2023 with the panels still not active and connected. I have had two different project managers and my sales rep quit. I have found out on updates multiple times by someone just showing up at my house. Luckily my wife was home with our infant who was not even conceived when this process started. 1.5 years I’ve have been dealing with trying to get this panels installed. I’ve emailed them at least 4 times a month and average a response about once every three responses.
The 1k gift card they offered was supplanted with a 750 dollar card as a kicker. There is absolutely no consistency or reliability in this company and it would have been easier in every way to use a company that isn’t a “one stop shop”. They have also checked my credit every three months or so with a half a dozen inquiries now plague my wife’s credit. Avoid at all costs.

I waited the requested 5 days and did receive another email on Aug 16 stating the failure was verified and that it will take time to arrange for a contractor, then for him to get the material needed to do the work. Since then there has not been any word from SunPower despite my emails to the person in the "Escalations Department" assigned to the case.
Meanwhile, it has now been over a month since that inverter stopped reporting. Even worse, it has been about four months, so far this year, with one inverter not reporting production, and 6 months out of the last 12 months with FIVE not reporting/producing. Still waiting for resolution.
In my opinion, simply replacing these faulty microinverter models when they fail is not a long term solution. It looks like a complete retrofit of this generation to the latest generation of inverters that SunPower now uses in new panels might be necessary for the failures to be halted.
I don't know if SunPower is extremely busy handling failures or simply dragging their feet. Either way the service has been so horrible that I'm now concerned about SunPower's viability and its continuing ability and intention to support their product's failure rate during the remaining in-warranty periods.
Original Review:My SunPower solar system was installed only 5 years ago. Within the past year, four (and now, probably 5) in-warranty microinverters have failed. SunPower never informed me of a failure, I informed them in all cases. SunPower customer support has been a stonewalling maze of unresponsive, misleading, gaslighting delay tactics. There have many instances when I have been lied to, or the representative was so inept that he or she would promise anything. It takes months to get: first - "engineering" assessment of the failure no matter how obvious it is; then additional weeks to get "certification" for a work order for a service call; and finally weeks for a scheduled date to get the failed inverter replaced.
In one case, I had to wait for an inverter to be "ordered". Adding to all of that is the need to continually call customer service (as useless as it is) to attempt to get status. Calling only get more stonewalling. Adding to the frustration with this company, the 5th failure occurred on the same day the 4th failed inverter was replaced. Any other major appliance company whose product had such an unacceptable failure rate would issue a recall or offer to retrofit the product, but not SunPower. The microinverters in this system are known to be unreliable.
To make matters worse, the installation contractor that was assigned by SunPower went out of business. I am now left to deal with a service company that has no installation responsibility, and who has no in-warranty reserve to deal with failures (if there are such things in the solar power business). It has now become obvious to me that once the warranty period is over that only 1 failure per year will incur enough cost to completely offset any electric bill savings the solar array provides. That raises serious questions regarding the economic benefits of home solar generation. The environmental benefits are also questionable given the life-cycle impact in basic material, production, and disposal. Caveat Emptor!

I don't receive any updates, the project coordinator sends me to the sales guy and vice versa, I call customer service and I get a very rude response stating they don't know what's the status of the project. If this is the customer service for a new installation and prior for them to earn money, I can imagine how would this be once the system is installed and if there are any issues. And the installer forgot to install CT devices to monitor the power consumption of my house, I only can see the solar production on the APP. I can’t see my home power consumption. And the layout of the panels are different from the contract and design from the permit. I email SunPower and called like 100 times, they just provided me a CASE#: ** and each time telling me they have a team to monitor that issue and it’s been a month now, still no one contact me for that dead panel and installation of the CT.
And they telling me maybe something is block the sunlight get to that one panel, I took pictures for them shows nothing blocked that one panel and at that time the production is still zero. My system shows from June 28 to July 22 the solar panels generated 1318.9 kwh but SCE only received 964 kwh. I need an explanation for that 360 kwh difference that not go into sce system. Because they didn’t install the CT when they installed the panels, I can’t even check my net meters on the app. I have to go to sce website to do the calculations by myself. I paid in cash full price, I should get the fully functioning system not the one with one broken panel and forgotten CT monitor device. Basically i lost a lot money for that 1 panel every month.

After researching a few different companies to buy solar panels for my home, I came across Sunpower and asked for a bid for my solar power system. The referral goes through a few hands before I got an appointment, so I had a feeling all those pockets would be receiving a commission. I explained I was comparing prices, and wanted their best offer on similar size and similar panels. Their price came in more than $10k above the highest bid I got from everyone else. That’s a lot of padding of pockets, not more solar panels or better solar panels. Not more or better micro inverters, but comparable. So, if company A is at $20k but he’s clearly selling a less advanced product, I can understand a difference in price. But not a $20k difference.
Company B came in with all the popular brand name items and a reasonable offer of $23k, with 25 year panel warranty and 5 year labor warranty. Company C came in with excellent brand name panels and micro inverters with a 25 yr parts AND labor warranty, for $28K. That’s a little more than I planned to spend. But I can see the value in the added labor warranty as I don’t plan to be on my own roof fixing things 20 years from now. SunPower had the nerve to keep my attention while they toot their own horn about all their wonderful attributes for more than half hour, before I had them cut to the chase and say the price.
$41,000 for the same amount of solar power that I can get from other brands for more than $10k less. It seems like a whole lot of profit. That’s a lot of padding of pockets and not more product for me. So, even though I could afford to buy whatever I want, I don’t want to pad pockets, so I wouldn’t go with Sunpower. The return on my investment would be so far into the future that it wouldn’t make sense.

They couldn't install them during thunderstorms or rain.
But they were a professional. After the inspection, the system did not go on. I made a phone call. Within 24 hours, I had technicians who tried to fix it. I was inform via email and phone call that both the Solar Panels and the Main Panel upgrade work was scheduled for 3/9/2023. On 3/9/2023 Only the Solar System was completed. No work for Main Panel was started or completed. First payment was made on 3/13/2023. On 5/12/2023 Sunpower’s Subcontracted Electrician worked on the Main Panel upgrade and left the property without informing me. The installation of the main panel was NOT Acceptable. I work in the Utility Industry and it is the ugliest Main Panel installation I have ever seen. Additionally, one of the circuit was not complete. I called Sunpower and the earliest Sunpower could schedule their Electrician was for 5/15/2023.
On 5/15/2023 Sunpower electrician saw the Main Panel installed by their Subcontracted Electrician and told me that the Main Panel was installed poorly and will not pass inspection. Sunpower electrician said they will not reinstall my Main Panel because the Main Panel was originally installed by their subcontractor and that the subcontractor have to come back to fix the poorly installed Main Panel. Therefore, the Sunpower Electrician only completed the previous uncompleted circuit that was missed on 5/12/2023. I informed Sunpower Project Coordinate of my dissatisfaction and the main panel needed to be install correctly. On 5/22/2023 Sunpower still requested a rough inspection by Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS). LADBS cited multiple violation. I continue to express my dissatisfaction and frustration to Sunpower Project Coordinator. Sunpower did not provide timeline or solution.
On 6/9/2023 Sunpower requested a second rough inspection by LADBS and their subcontracted inspector. The LADBS Inspector saw the Main Panel and noted no correction was made. The subcontracted inspector also acknowledged that the installation is poor. I requested the Sunpower Project Coordinate for a corrective action plan. Today on 6/29/2023 The Sunpower Project Coordinate said their electrician was able to address the corrections with the inspector and will be holding an inspection on 7/5 and then stucco repair on 7/6. I emailed Sunpower back asking how is it possible for their electrician to address the correction when they have not been back to house to physically fix the multiple violation cited by LADBS.
I am extremely feed up with Sunpower Project Coordinator and their subcontracted Electrician. I have requested Sunpower to provide a clear corrective action plan and to physically correct the inaccurately installed Main Panel upgrade multiple times. It seem like Sunpower only want wrap up the projects, collect my money and move on. Ultimately leaving the customer with poor quality product and service. I still don’t my solar system connected or have a properly installed Main Panel. I will continue to provide my honest review and progress.

Absolutely the worst experience ever!! I had a SunPower system installed in 2019, less than a year after I remodeled my house. First they built me a system that was the wrong size - it only covers 50% of my electricity costs whereas I expected the system to cover 100%+ of my electricity costs. Now less than 5 years later, I find out my roof needs to be replaced, which SunPower said was in good shape and not in need of repair/replacement anytime soon. Fine - I accept responsibility. I should have done better homework on my roof and not trust a solar company to tell me whether my roof was in good shape or not and worthy of an install.
So now as I have gotten my roof replaced last month, I've been dealing with SunPower for over 3 months trying to get them to remove and reinstall my solar panels. It took them more than 6 weeks to get a crew out to uninstall the panels and another 3+ weeks of constantly calling to schedule the reinstall after the roof was replaced. I received a text message yesterday 6/20 confirming that a crew will be coming today to reinstall however this morning no one showed up. When I contacted SunPower, I'm told that your job has been cancelled and the earliest time available for a reschedule is 7/7. This is RIDICULOUS!!
I'm in the process of selling the house and have had to delay my closing 2x because of solar install costing me way too much $$$ (extra house payments, monthly upkeep costs and electricity without solar) and now they've delayed it again by another few weeks. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! Not to mention that the removal and reinstall is costing me nearly $10K to get completed. Be aware!! SunPower's 25 year warranty isn't ALL that it's meant to be. IF this is the kind of service they provide, the warranty is useless!!

I have had possibly the worst customer service experience of any company I have worked with. My solar panels weren't communicating to Sunpower at first for a few months but still operating and then also stopped working. It wasn't until the summer when I usually have credits to cover most of my power coats months later that I found out they weren't producing. Even though their annual power generation report by contract was supposed to have been done in january that would have caught this. I find out they hadn't done it for the last 2 years since when I took over the lease.
Now I'm trying to get payment and they're only trying to pay me under their guaranteed minimum power generation portion of the contract which should be for underperforming and WORKING solar panels. AND an amount less than the total of the monthly lease payments I made with ZERO power generation. I am literally losing money from their mistakes because of this even if I accepted their calculated reimbursement.
Trying to dispute this with customer service who is lacking in understanding of legal documents hasn't been unfruitful. I've demanded speaking to a manager and they have said they would call me for weeks now but still haven't. They even promised me today and it is currently 4:25 my time with zero call again. I've called over 6 times asking for this manager to respond to me. Do I need to contact a lawyer to resolve this because it's ridiculous and there was clear breach of contract. Their email system is also atrocious because you have to respond to the originating email every time and they don't always respond to confirm they received your emails. I do not recommend using sunpower for your solar panels because of this and I wish I hadn't when I assumed the lease when purchasing my home from the previous homeowner.
04/21/23 edit: Again I was supposed to receive a call that was scheduled today and AGAIN another call never came. At this point I think I need to get my lawyer involved because this seems to be getting worse by all accounts not better. 05/03/2023 update: This was escalated even higher to some sort of executive review team as you can see from sunpower's response below but I, of course, still haven't had any full response on the matter. I'm not sure if this needs to be resolved in a legal matter at this point since Sunpower appears to have had multiple breaches of contract per my lease contract.
05/09/2023: Still no update and even multiple unanswered emails asking for updates after this "escalated" to the executive review team. 06/20/2023: It's been OVER TWO MONTHS since I left this review and STILL haven't had a single shred of evidence of recalculation of my issue or any attempt to rightfully pay me what I am owed or at minimum refund me the months of my lease where my solar panels were not producing at all. I would never recommend sunpower to anyone looking to lease solar panels they do not have the customer service or systems in place to adequately serve you if ANYTHING goes wrong.
Craig, we appreciate your feedback and sorry to hear that your expectations have not been met. We see that you spoke with a representative earlier today and that your case manager has a follow-up scheduled with you. Your updated review has been added to your case for further investigation. I have been in the process for almost a year to get solar installed and working on my house. Once the installation was done the local power company inspected and found several issues. I have email several people at the company and cannot seem to get a timely answer as to what is holding up the process. The project coordinator I had in the beginning was amazing at giving my weekly updates. The current coordinator very rarely emails me back - Anthony **.
I have been paying for the system for 5 months and cannot use it. They will take their time in doing anything for you once you start making payments and they have their money. I wish I could take the hardware off the house and just find another company to use. I had friends use another company, they started the installation after us and they are already up and running. Should have gone with them instead. I will never recommend this company for anything other than headaches and bleeding your wallet dry.

The sales process was relatively straightforward. Once it was handed off to a project manager is where the issues started. One week before installation we received an email that we needed to approve a change in layout for additional structural support. One week later, the original layout was installed. Additionally the panels were covered in dust/dirt. We requested them to be cleaned and the conduit to be painted (per the HOA’s conditional approval). It’s 3 months later, emails to the project manager are occasionally answered with “our ops team is scheduling a return date”, which is not happening. Make no mistake, the billing department was quick to reach out when I didn’t pay the invoice on the exact day I received it. Very frustrating for a system that cost as much as a new car.
We apologize for the experience you've had. Thank you for the opportunity to restore your confidence in SunPower. We have created a case on your behalf. Please expect an Executive Support Specialist to discuss your concerns and provide additional assistance.

Avoid using this company at all costs!! What’s the point of warranty if they have no idea how to fix it! I have a solar lease that came with my house I purchased in 2017. I filed a warranty repair claim with Sunpower in December of 2022 because one of my inverters was producing no power. For the past 7 months there has been 3 site visits and numerous emails by me asking what’s going on and when will this be repaired?
Every time I call the customer service representatives say the same thing. We are sorry sir, I will escalate this and someone will contact you with the next step. I have only been contacted once by their escalation department via email and they have not responded to my emails or calls and it’s been over 3 weeks since they initially contacted. No one here knows what they’re doing and because one of my inverters is down my system is producing half of what it should be. On another note Sunpower only reimburses me 7 cents a KW for under production while I have to pay 49 cents a KW to our electric company for over use so waiting 7 months for a warranty repair with no end in site is ridiculous. Maybe that’s why their stock dropped over 20% today!

I expect that this very negative review will never be published since this site is paid for by the company that are reviewed. Our Sunpower system failed in February 2023, I have been trying to work with them since March. They finally sent a tech team in May to confirm that the junction box (and therefore our system) was "fried" and were lucky that the house did not catch fire. We have been "escalated" to “level 3” and assigned an “executive support person,” in April from whom I actually received 1 telephone call, emails with lame excuses, been deemed critical by the tech and now, heard nothing from our support person.
We have been lied to, ghosted, given multiple case numbers and excuses as to why they can't come back and fix it any time soon...or maybe ever. The latest excuse is that they are "waiting for needed equipment" to rewire our system. Despite multiple calls and e-mails, and promises to "return calls by the end of the business day" I have heard nothing for over 3 weeks.
FOUR MONTHS of trying to get them to fix their products! The irony of course is that they have a major solar equipment facility about 30 miles from here. Evidently, junction boxes, wiring, fuses and maybe even an inverter are too scarce and exotic to even give us a date when we might get back online. So if you are considering SunPower equipment, do not, if you expect to find any customer service. The techs were fine but there are not enough of them capable of addressing problems in a timely manner...or maybe ever. This has been the worst customer service experience ever.

Our inverter, that is under warranty, broke and needs to be replaced. Sunpower came to our house 3 months ago to check and said we need a new one. Since then, I have called many times to know why we don't have the inverter yet. Some people say the inverter already arrived and they only need to schedule the installation. Others say the inverter is not there yet and they have no idea when the inverter will arrive! In the meantime, we are paying for the electricity bills. They keep saying they will send me emails with updates and I see nothing. My feeling is that since the inverter is under warranty and they will not get paid for the inverter or the service, they are just letting it go unscheduled. This is very unrespectful to the customer. Your inverter broke, it is not my fault. Find a way to solve the issue instead of saying you have no idea when this will be fixed!

I decided to go with SunPower because they are American made products where if the panels were to malfunction, they would immediately replace it and not try to troubleshoot if it is not necessary. The App that they have is very convenient to monitor yourself. Even though the product is good, the experience with the people was not that great. It was sub contractors that came, mess up the function of my electrical, where I needed to call a general contractor that I trust out to fix. I know SunPower has tried to get the sub-contractor out to repair the issue, they did not show. This made the experience very frustrating. I know this is not fully SunPower's fault, but the lag in status update about the issue made me feel like they were avoiding the issue. I think if they have better sub-contractors, the experience would be better.

I had a horrible experience with Sunpower. My partner and coordinator quit, and the manager never picked up the ball on it. The third party roofer messed up my roof. But they didn't compensate me. They just made sure the work was done correctly. I had the panels taken off of my roof and then reput back on after the roofer screwed up the second time. So my roof was redone three times. They didn't wanna fix it the third time around.
When SunPower came back out to reinstall the panels, they installed the panels in different locations and shifted them. When they shifted them, they put it too close to my roof and a couple of panels were blocked. They told me, "Oh, well, it's on you to fix." I told them no and I fought with it. Finally, they did fix it. When they originally set my panels up after they did the installation, I saw that I was losing power compared to the previous install. But now that they moved the panels back to the original locations, I'm back to the normal power I was supposed to produce.

We paid 1/3 of the bill when the system was installed and they tried demanding the other 2/3s of the bill despite the system not even working. We have no end in sight and the company truly makes us feel helpless with horrific customer service. They were in the ballpark and they had excellent ratings. The installers were here for quite a while. The crew was awesome and they explained everything to me. They would sit on my patio and eat lunch every day. I got to know most of them pretty well. They're very professional. I was amazed at how young they are. They were neat, clean, and orderly. Edison still charges me because of the taxes and things like that that they have to pay. The water well is not connected to the solar to pump it out of the ground. The storage tank is powered by solar because that's on my house meter. SunPower is superb and I would recommend them without reservation to anybody.

The sales folks and the technicians from SunPower were really informative and they explained the process thoroughly, and we were confident that they could take care of it. We had to get a new roof, so all our previous panels came off. So, they installed theirs and the old ones for us. We had other solar panels and we were able to get a lot more for what seemed to be a pretty reasonable price. The install team was very professional, quick, didn't leave a mess and did a great job.
Since going with SunPower, we've noticed a big difference in our monthly bill. For instance, this month, we have a credit of 150 bucks, so we didn't have to pay our energy bill this month. It's a good thing. The only thing is SunPower could set people up to understand that sometimes the process takes a little longer than you may anticipate, which means not necessarily the install part, but getting that scheduled, then also the followup, getting the permits and then getting PG&E to turn it on.

BEWARE- SunPower DOES NOT deliver on their commitments. I signed a contract with them in March 2023 to install Solar Panels with their promise that I could enroll in NEM 2.0. They confirmed with me that I had met their internal deadline to enroll as the deadline to meet NEM 2.0 was April 14. Valentina **, from their sales (Energy Consultant), assured me that SunPower provides premium services and I would be enrolled under NEM 2.0. In April, after signing the contract, I followed up with Valentina multiple times via email and phone calls to obtain status updates on my solar application. Instead of troubleshooting, Valentina gave me the run around and told me to contact a project coordinator (whom she did not tell me that was either).
After 14, 2023, I made multiple attempts to reach out to Valentina about my NEM 2.0 status. She refused to respond to me completely. I then called the support team almost every day until I found out that I was enrolled in NEM 3.0, and that the Sun Power team dropped the ball and missed submitting my application to meet the NEM 2.0 deadline.
The support team then asked Valentina to call me back to explain what happened to my NEM application, but she never called me back. The support engineer then told me to contact the project team. I then found out that my project coordinator (PC). With PC’s help, Valentina finally called me back to apologize for the mistake done by SunPower. She then gave me the “best” offer with a mere few hundred dollars in discounts for the solar system. There was no offer of adding a complementary battery wall or anything that would remotely make this system they promised me under NEM 2.0 financially worth it under NEM 3.0.
Buyers, please beware, SunPower makes empty promises, goes back on its word, and misses deadlines without taking responsibility. Instead, they locked me into signing a contract with them, under false pretenses, promising NEM 2.0 and not following through. Despite continued efforts from my side to follow up, they have failed to provide adequate customer support or attempt to remedy the situation in any meaningful way. I was looking forward to joining the solar community, but I am saddened and disappointed by this missed opportunity and would caution anyone considering SunPower that they are a company with poor practices and will not support the customer even when a mistake of this magnitude has been made on their end.

We made the initial approach in August of '21 and then, I messed around a bit with getting an idea of costs. I finally decided in October and we signed the agreement. SunPower’s installers came at the end of December and started the installation and finished sometime in January. The installation process was relatively easy. The installers just climbed up on the roof and did it. We didn't have to do anything. So, there was no real issue from that point. But there was still a delay after it was installed. We had to sit there and look at it for a couple of months until it could be inspected and deemed to be appropriate to be turned on and hooked up to the grid. It wasn't switched on until about March. There was nothing we could do about that and it was the county that created the delay.
The current bills vary from time of year. During summer, we're running the air conditioning and the system doesn't cover it. We ended up with bills probably around 300, which was better than the 1,500 in the first year when we moved in here. And during this time of the year, we basically don't pay anything at all. But we haven't gotten to the point of buying electric vehicles yet. We're still looking into that a little bit. There was one minor fault where a couple of the panels weren't showing up properly, but SunPower was able to fix it remotely. It was just something with the software. Other than that, we've had absolutely no trouble at all. I would recommend SunPower. They did a great job. They did everything we wanted and went through the whole process with us very carefully and explained it all in great detail, and essentially made sure that the whole thing is working properly. The techs did the initial installation and then, three weeks later, another tech came out and did the final hookup with the city inspector that came by to review the project. So, it was good. I haven't spent as much on the Edison bills since I've had the solar with SunPower. I was disappointed that I couldn't put more panels on, but that was up to the Utility Commission and the state of California, which I kind of have a negative attitude towards. We were seeing more and more wild fires in our area. We also were replacing our gas furnace with an electric one. I looked into what the cost to change to solar was and found that it would cost the same or a little less to convert. In reality it has cost a lot less! I have not had an electric bill in over a year. It is amazing! My only regret is not also installing a battery because now if I added one I would have to change to NEM 3.0 which would not be as cost beneficial to me.

Finally went solar early last year. My electric utility bill is now just fees and taxes, no grid consumption. The installation also looks great! Helps the environment as well. Highly recommended. Generates electricity even on cloudy days. The SunPower app, however, doesn't always seem to calculate net export to grid correctly.

For a relatively big project, they made the process seamless from start to finish. Every step of the way and everyone I worked were helpful and professional. I would highly recommend Sunpower to any friends and family.

Temporarily, I was unable to connect and view my data on my iPhone app. They helped me to resolve this issue in few minutes and monitor performance of every panel and output in the app.

Paul was the solar guy that came here and I was very happy he brought the solar panels with him and described the difference. It seemed like he really knew what was going on. I was happy that the solar panels were made here. Paul was a really nice guy. He took care of me, made sure that everything was the way it should be, and he always stayed in touch. SunPower was a really good company.
The process took a long time and it wasn't their fault. The house needed a new roof and the electric panel that I had put in wasn't done with permits. It took a long time to get permits. Now, I have a credit every month. That's even through the summertime when I used to have $400 bills. It concerned me because people were telling me that in December, Edison comes out with a lot of maintenance fees. I didn't get any at all. So far, I'm perfectly happy with the whole situation. I'm glad I did it when I did because I hear you don't get the same results today billing-wise.

My SunPower system is on a small 1,000 square foot cottage, so I'm able to be with a lot of other energy saving strategies. I'm net negative, so grid connected, but exclusively using solar power in the aggregate. My project is in Vermont where it's not sunny all the time, but if I look at it over the course of the year, it generated more power than I use. I use SunPower's app to track how things are looking, depending on what time of year it is. Having a quality installer means a lot.

Everything's working the way it's supposed to. After the first year cycle, we've noticed we're saving between 100 or a little more each and every month throughout the year once we did that one-year cycle to get your long summer days to your short winter days calculated through. It's been really good. My wife has the app so we can monitor how we're doing, how much we're using and conserving, and what we have for built-up credit.

I liked the whole aspect of SunPower where they install the system, maintain it, permit it. They take care of it all. All I had to do was call them up. The process started in September or October. And we finished at the New Year's in January time frame. The installation was quick. The only thing I could complain about that was the guy that did the final hook-up into the electrical panel and all the panels on the exterior. When he did the holes through the wall for the conduit, it wasn't as clean of a installation than I would have liked.
We've had the system for a year. It has been a great system.I wish it had been a slightly bigger system. But I know that if I wanna add on to it, I can. I’m here in Texas. I’m in the DFW area. During the summer, it couldn't handle how hot it gets. We still have a payment during the summer. But it does cover 80% of it. So, that’s good. The only thing I'd like on the app would be to know how I could isolate the amount of power that I pull in from the grid. There are times at night or on cloudy days when it's not producing and I'm pulling in power from the grid. I like to isolate exactly that. My electric company charges me a rate for pulling in power but only provides me a different rate when I push power out. So, if I can isolate that, I would know exactly what my bill would be and have a better understanding of how that works.
Brian, we appreciate your feedback and delighted to know that you are happy with system. SunPower was in the area. They came around and solicited new clients. I talked to one of their workers that promoted it. He gave me a rundown on how it works and the benefits of it. And he had his manager come. They both sat and talked to me about it, showed me paperwork and how it would be applied. I became interested after that. My electrical bill would go down. A company came a year or so prior, but I couldn't get it at that time because I had a lot of trees around the house. It was, "You need to cut some of these trees." "I know. They ain't my trees. So I can't be cutting down trees." SunPower came and didn't have to do anything with the trees. They decided how many panels I needed for the size of the house. The whole front of my house is covered.
They had to get all of the permits from the town. Once they got the permits, it didn't take time. They did everything in a few hours when they came in. One of the guys had already checked the roof to make sure that they could be done before they started the installation. Several guys brought the equipment, got up on the roof, did whatever they were supposed to do and installed it.
In the summer time, I have a very small bill. In the winter months it's not as good because my roof doesn't get as much sun. But I'm very satisfied. I incurred another bill that I didn't expect to be so much. I thought it would run me around 20,000. It ended up 40,000 something with financing. But it's manageable. Friends and people that have passed by and seen the panels have asked me a lot of questions about them. I gave them SunPower's referral number.

My wife and I were looking for a solar company to install solar on our home. I contacted Sunpower. I made an appointment—I MADE THE APPOINTMENT—for an online meeting, so I know EXACTLY when it was supposed to be—April 26, 3:00pm. Jessica ** at SunPower even sent me a confirmation email and copied it to another SunPower employee (Marilyn **), who sent me multiple reminders. So at 2:45 on April 26 I still had no link to join any online meeting, so I emailed both Jessica and Marilyn asking if there was information I needed to join the scheduled meeting. 3:00pm rolls around with no contact from Jessica ** or Marilyn **.
So at about 3:45 Jessica ** texted me and gave me some ** story about the appointment being tomorrow at 3:30pm, but “graciously” offered 3:00pm as an option if that was better for me. What a lie. She knew very well when the actual appointment was—SHE CONFIRMED IT WITH AN EMAIL—and missed it, then tried to lie her way out of it. I complained to SunPower, and all they had to say was that I was welcome to come back to them for solar anytime. No apology, nothing. Clearly SunPower employs people with no ethics and operates with no ethics. I would recommend you find another solar company—ANY other solar company—that operates with ethics and takes responsibility for their mistakes. We went with Kayo Solar, and they were honest, completely transparent, timely, and fair.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Your feedback is essential to us in improving our services.

I've been thinking about doing solar for a while and with the current energy prices, it was a no-brainer especially since my home has a good location. I have sunlight on the east side in the morning and in the west in the afternoon. I did some research online and SunPower was number one. The signup was great. I knew it takes a few months to complete the whole task because I talked to my coworkers who have panels. I knew what to expect. I got the solar panels in January so the first month was not the greatest. It’s in the winter. But my last bill is zero, so I'm just paying the lease.
