Got a new roof and had been thinking of adding solar once I had the new roof. Then, we had a cold (for us) winter and more expensive utility bills, plus I heard about the NEM 2-NEM 3 changeover coming in April. I don’t have any central heat in my 100 year old bungalow… weighing the options, it seemed going solar would be the most helpful for the environment, the grid, and for our home.

SunPower offers the best 25-year performance guarantee. It's a little confusing initially because you talk to somebody from a call center from SunPower, they look at your house and get all your information via email and a phone conversation. They then connect you with one of their authorized installers which in our case was SolarTech out of San Diego. That could have been better explained because I didn't know where the engineering was gonna happen initially. But it worked very smoothly. SolarTech did the estimate. They came out and did the inspection of the house. The process went extremely slowly by neither SunPower nor SolarTech's fault. We had horrific delays getting the permit in place. The dealer pulled our permits, scheduled the work, and did the commissioning. Once we were transitioned to SolarTech, we weren't dealing directly with SunPower for any of the rest of the project, which is fine. They explained that upfront.
As soon as the solar system went active, we had a zero electric bill and we've had negative electric bills for over a year. In the same project, we also put in two Powerwalls, but they also went through permitting nightmares with the fire marshal for Riverside County. From beginning of the project to the Powerwalls being in place was shy of two years. But they're also in and working and that was also handled by the same contractor who SunPower set us up with. We're really pleased with the software. It's very responsive. We're thrilled with the product. They've been churning out power in excess of what we're able to use. We have a large enough surplus. We could add an electric car without an electric bill and that was the goal.

I purchased the SunPower solar panels (34 panels) several years ago and whenever there has been an issue with the equipment they have responded and corrected the issue. They have honored the warranty and their phone support had been very helpful.

Went solar because it’s something we could do to help with climate change and it seemed like a reasonable investment. It also seemed an interesting thing to do. I had proposals from four companies and picked Sunpower because the kW output was equal to or higher than the others, the panels were the most efficient, and the cost/kW was at least as good or better than the others. Also mattered that Sunpower is a well established, stable national company. I found all of the people I dealt with at Sunpower to be very straightforward, pleasant and easy to work with. The installation went very smoothly and on schedule. The system is up and running. I get a kick out of checking it out on the app.

Sunpower Made a change in my solar panels (one which I fully approved of) that caused a problem due to the seemingly ubiquitous supply chain problems. But, once panels were received, installation proceeded fairly promptly. Of course, then the Christmas/New Years holidays held things up a bit. And APS has a few hiccups in their system. But overall, installation proceeded apace, and I now have a system for which I pay nothing for all the power I need to use.

All around great experience. The only company to be upfront about certain costs and such. Please do your homework when getting solar. I would recommend this company again and if we move will use them again. Sales and install was good.

I needed to change bank account numbers as a got scammed and the bank suggested I close and reopen my accounts. Echo sent me an email to fill out and return. It was very easy to fill out and send back. She helped a lot.

SunPower made the installation and getting your certificate of operation super easy as well as the process for the financing for the whole project. Everything's step-by-step. They walk you through it and it's a good experience overall. The installation was two days. The solar panels were embedded into my roof so the installers had to remove tiles. Then, they put in the solar panels. The second day was all electrical work. The installation doesn’t interrupt much. They take your power down for 10 minutes and then bring it back up. It’s very painless.
The second day where they install it, you're operating on solar power. The only thing that you don't have is it feeding back into the grid. Otherwise, you're consuming solar right then and there, except you're not getting credit for it in California until they submit it to Southern California Edison. But that process, you gotta wait until the city inspector comes and looks at it. They verify everything. So, end to end, it took me about three weeks to get my certificate of operation. Once you get your certificate, from then on is when you're feeding back into the grid. You're getting credit except it's not going towards your bill. If it's sunny, you see your meter going backwards. So, SunPower is being fed backwards, although it's not getting recorded in any billing systems. Theoretically, you're still getting some kind of credit. I’m very satisfied with going solar.

I was approached by their salesman, Arvin, we spent a lot of time looking at the costs and ROI. I determined the cost benefit were worth the investment for me. My coordinator, Katt, was excellent. Super responsive and very competent. The product has an excellent warranty and the installation was very well done. I am very happy with every step in the process and have already recommended SunPower to friends and family.

The SunPower system pays for itself. The inspector in town said that the company who installed it, Esmay, has a very good reputation. They broke some tiles and the owner ordered new ones and had techs replace the broken ones.

Needed help with payment on the webpage plus had some questions on my usage and to explain features on the website that you have. The only thing that I was not able to get in the website changed password and everything with help of the agent but was not able to sign in at all. The enrollment process took four months, and it was just about what I expected. I didn't expect it to be that quick. I gave them some information, and they dealt with permits and the energy company. I didn't have to worry about anything. I'm extremely satisfied with going solar, and things have been working well.

SunPower's crew was good, and we haven't had any difficulty with them. We had some difficulty getting the electric company to put a new transformer in. It was caught between a couple of different companies in our neighborhood, but they finally got it in. That had nothing to do with SunPower though. Everything has been fine. We got a new internet server in our house and we had to re-sign on to the app and I had a little difficulty with that. I sent an email and got a response back. It was smooth, and that's surprising. Also, we've reduced our bill. We've gained more kilowatts than we've used, and we're pretty happy. We're leasing and we haven't received any payback yet. We just passed our one-year anniversary and I understand that a settle-up happens sometime around now.

We have been trying to get broken Solar inverter fixed since Sept 2022! We call every week and they tell us it should be fixed next week, just waiting on a part...twice we were given repair date and no one showed or called! When we called we were told that they don’t have us on the schedule? We received a $1000 past due bill from Big Bear Power… We are under contract with Sunpower and pay them $120 per month. We are trapped! Sunpower is unethical at best and act like a bunch of crooked Con Artists! Stay away from this Company!

We decided to go solar in 2018 because there was a healthy tax break of 30%. We did feel a bit pressured when we signed up because we were told that the tax break was going to end. We later found out the tax break was reduced to 27%. It now has reverted back to the 30%. To use that as a selling tactic, although not dishonest, is a lousy way to secure a sale.
We do like the product and the way it was installed. The technicians were professional and the work was done with great care. The end result looks great. Now we are in a new phase with all the changes that are happening to solar owners like us. When I contacted our Sun Power affiliate to ask about upgrading our system I was told that the minimum number of panels we had to order was 10. That's a whole new system and that's ridiculous. Sun Power is missing a huge opportunity to be a leader in the solar market by offering upgrade options of 3 to 5 panels. It would help your existing customers and also secure brand loyalty.

The lady we spoke to was extremely proactive and had the customer’s best interest in mind. The gentleman we spoke to was more of a numbers person. He just wanted to give you your numbers and go away. But he was polite and answered all questions. Overall, our decision to go with SunPower has been very positive up until this point in time 'cause we've contacted them to possibly expand our system and had a heart attack when we found out how much it was gonna cost. But other than that, we're glad we went with SunPower. The City of Lodi unlike PG&E settles up the difference of usage once a month. So we know exactly where we stand.

I like the quality of the solar panels of SunPower and the ability to own the system. Their solar panels at the time had some of the highest guarantees after 20 years. About 97% of its production is guaranteed. So if it isn't, I can always call them on the guarantee on that. Whereas other ones, the details on those were down to 80%, so I'd lose quite a bit. The installation was also very professional. They had the roof inspection, made sure all the assessments are right, and had contractors, licenses and all the stuff that makes you feel confident about that installation process.
Everything was done very quickly. There was a small hiccup in the metering, but it had nothing to do with the actual output. It was the way the metering was reporting. It was resolved offline too. They just changed the code a little bit and everything was good. Overall, I liked it a lot. They've also updated the app that they use for metering, which is really great. It was a lot more simplified and easy to understand.

SunPower's salesman was great. Sometimes you meet with salesmen and they're super pushy. You try to say, "I'm not interested," but they ask you 27 more times if you are. The way the SunPower salesman approached the process was wonderful. He made you feel like if you were his family member or friend, it was what he would recommend, but there was no pressure. Everyone I spoke with was also very friendly and helpful.
Watching the app that I am obsessed with, there's so much info. I like it. It's fun to see how much your home is using, and how much solar you've produced. I've been shocked in February that we've produced as much as we have and we're still in the negative as far as our consumption from the grid. Overall, it's been a great experience. SunPower made it very easy for the consumer. I would recommend them.

When I purchased my SunPower system I was told I would save money on electricity. Because of the overpriced system, I am paying more for the loan payment than I save from the utility. Interest payments alone are over $1000 per year and this will continue for a long, long time.

Ryan ** helped me troubleshooting the problems. He was very patient, friendly and helpful. Jennifer and Angie ** helped to set up the field tech visit were also very friendly. Christen came today. Very nice young man. Running into some technical issue, the device need to be replaced. Due to the lead time and busy schedule, the project may take another couple of months. Since the solar system is working well, I do not mind of waiting. Even though the project takes much longer than I would hope for, all in all, it has been a pleasant process due to the attitudes of all people involved.

Vida was knowledgeable and patient when assisting with an issue with my billing. My late fee was waived and the double payment due to a configuration issue with auto payment was resolved. Not only she assisted me with the issue, but also Vida made sure that my configuration is correct for the next month auto payment schedule.

I called due to could not login. I needed a password reset. Jen corrected the issue. The one complaint I would have is had to wait 30 minutes to get help on resolving that. I have owned my system for almost 13 years, very reliable and I am very happy that I use no electric, we also added a battery backup system and now we are very much so off the grid!

Try to reach their site survey intake department, it was on hold for two hours yesterday and still not connect and tried today too. No luck. Rep sent email to their contact to call me, no luck either. The journey has not started and already felt horrible. Normal customer service for new customer is immediate connection. But Now on hold after get transferred. Horrible expereience for a new customer. Where is their customer service.

I went through an agent at SunPower and he was great. Going solar allowed me to save a little bit. But it's not a tremendous amount of savings like people think. You're producing excess during the day when it’s sunny and you're just taking it right back at night. Maybe you're saving 150 bucks a month but your true-up bills are ridiculous.

The product is good. I like that there is no electricity bill. It's just me in the house. Last year I got $400 back from the electric provider.

The panels that SunPower offered were good enough that I contacted them and came up with a system that would eliminate my electric bill, and it has since 2012. The techs who installed my panels were very professional and clean. I have a metal standing seam roof and they were very careful not to stand on the seams and not to puncture them when they used the clamps to hold the frame down to mount the panels on. They didn't fall off the roof either. For the first eight years or so, it was very easy to track my progress through the app but it was not that informative. Then there was a period when the app was changing, and therefore, I could not ever see any solar collected for that time period. Eventually, they finished the conversion nationally and regionally, and it's back to a new app that now provides more information.
The sales rep was really great, too. It's a shame that he isn't doing it anymore because I have reached out since then wanting to add batteries. And since my original sales rep isn't available, I get put to whoever is doing it now in our area. But I haven't been able to come to an agreement to add batteries because the last call I made was about my inverters . They are over 12 years old and they don't match with current battery technology which is dissatisfying. I also wish that there were more advertisements for cleaning services to clean the panel, because at my age of 78, I don't want to climb on the roof to hose them down and squeegee them.

I had the unfortunate experience of having my bank account drained and had to open a new one. I called SunPower several times and finally found the number I had to call to change my bank account. I am writing my review based on customer service. I signed my contract Sept 2022 and it’s almost March 2023 and still not able to use Solar. The whole process is terrible. I had to keep contacting Sunpower or else I probably wouldn’t be updated. They tell you to reach your project manager whenever you have questions or concerns so I would email them and it would takes days sometimes weeks until you get a reply. I would say that the people who answer the phone that are not part of your project crew are good. So like I said I signed September and after calls and e-mails finally got a schedule to install solar. That day came and guess what nobody came and I didn’t even get a call or email saying they weren’t coming. Now I had a feeling they weren’t coming because of the weather report saying it will rain, but even asking them if they were sure they will come because of the rain they said yes they will come.
So I called and they said, "Sorry. They will come tomorrow to install." I said, "Are you sure because I can’t keep missing work." They said they will be there. The crew did come on time and after evaluation they said they couldn’t do it due to the rain which I understood. I reached out to my installation schedule contact to see when can we schedule and he said, "They will be there tomorrow." I said, "Are you serious because it’s still raining." He said, "Yes they will be there and we need to get it done." I said ok. Called out from work again. Now they were able to install solar and storage. That was first week of January. Now it’s end of February and the solar equipment have just been collecting dust for almost 2 months. There’s more but all this is just a nightmare and I haven’t even had my solar turned on and I HAVE PAID EVERYTHING IN FULL!!! I have done my part. When will Sunpower do their part!!! If you can shop around before picking Sunpower.

Save money, increase property value. I believe Sunpower Solar panels are the best on the Market. California Solar the installing contractor disappointed me when I was looking to add batteries to my system and told me my project was too small for them and now they were too busy to deal with my small 4.32 kw system. I decided to go with SunPower as they were the most informative and I liked the panels and how they were mounted. Alan ** on the sales side and Kristina ** the Project Manager were great. The installation went well and everything looks neat and the system is up and running. I would definitely Recommend SunPower.

I was very impressed with the product, but not so much on the install. I signed my contract in June 2022 and was given a 3 month timeframe for completion, which should have been September 2022. I believe that due to the lack of follow up and communication, this was dragged on through November!! I had already started paying for my panels and was still paying for electricity! I believe SunPower should reimburse me for those electric bills and my panel payments until my system became operational on 11/29/22. And, they didn’t install the bird mesh for another 9 weeks!
During all this time there was ZERO communication from the field manager or anyone. I had to contact my salesperson for help, and he did not have much luck with communication either. And, I am just barely getting the email about my system being up and running from SunPower and it’s February ‘23! It’s been a very long process that shouldn’t have been, and very expensive as well. Over $1300 in payments on my panels and electric bills that SunPower should reimburse me for!

We decided to go solar because it’s the right thing to do for our environment. In spite of SRP’s very poor stance on solar we felt like it would be worth the investment. I interviewed 3 solar companies and found SunPower to be the most professional and honest. We have found the communication from SunPower to be excellent. The project moved along just as they said it would. The installation was done VERY professionally with absolutely no mess left behind. We encounter a hiccup after “going live” with the monitoring app. The customer service team and technical team worked diligently to fix the issue even though the system was working perfectly from the onset. The problem was solved timely with Patrick staying in close contact with me to make sure we were satisfied. We have been VERY happy we chose SunPower to be our solar energy partner!

Our primary motivation is sustainability, with a secondary goal of saving some money and avoiding occasional blackouts/brownouts to which our neighborhood has been affected. Our motivation for timing was the recent removal of a tree that shaded our roof (for reasons not related to this contract).

I've been through about 15 interviews with all the solar companies in Bakersfield over a 15-year period, and Sunpower was the first company that told me the truth. The salesman didn't lie to me about the benefits of getting solar, which 99% of the other companies lie about it. Plus they were on time and constantly answering me if I emailed them. So it's good business.

I liked the more productivity to the 25th year, that SunPower will still produce more even from the competitors. The enrollment was a breeze. The installation also went smoothly. They knocked it out in a day and a half, just to double-check, make sure everything was buttoned up. I'm producing on sunny days or partly sunny, so, so far, I'm a happy camper. I'm hoping for the benefits and perks in the long run. And if I could get rid of that big loan, the savings is there on the payback at the end.

Our system was installed by Stellar Solar and everything went very well. We've had our SunPower solar panels for almost five years now and during the five years, we've had no electric bill, except for some reason this month, we got an unanticipated bill which looks like an electric bill. But that may be the true-up.

The guy came out and set the location and then Sunpower gave me a price. Then they wanted to move the location because they said they didn't figure the cost of being 50 feet out further because they did a ground mount. The sales rep said it would function just as well by moving it over in another location. Sunpower was trying to move it in another location just so it would be a cheaper install and then want me to pay extra money and do all the digging for the underground.
The lead tech that come out when it got to the process of putting it in said it was kinda crap but he would take care of it and it would go where it was laid out originally to go. I walked around with him, and he was the one that said, “This is where it needed to be on the ground to function properly where it needed to be.” He was highly trained. He knew his job. But the sales rep was wanting me to dig it and pay all this extra money. So there were some things that she changed on the original price and location. It turned into a bunch of phone calls. But other than that, I've been pleased with Sunpower. So far, everything’s functioning great. I'm pleased with the system. They have a great product. It was just that little install hitch from AES that came into play.

The rep was very good at explaining things. He didn't close any deals. He was very professional. Enrollment and installation were very easy and straightforward. Since having the panels installed, PG&E has given me $150 back this year which was very good. I use the application they have and it's 80% accurate. I recommend SunPower because they're very easy to understand. After over a year, I'm very satisfied.

Stay as far away from SunPower as you can, unless you like non-functioning systems, endless hold times on customer service, and refusal to have a tech come out to your house to even investigate why your system isn't producing energy. My solar system has not been producing energy for several months at the least, and maybe longer. I have called SunPower so many times and get nowhere with them. You're lucky if you can even get a human on the line after endless wait times. Once you do get a human on the line, they'll tell you that you need to contact one of their local dealers. Then you repeat the same exercise with the local dealers, explaining what's wrong, and they tell you you have to contact SunPower corporate to have them send a tech out. But SunPower corporate refuses to send a tech out.
I have no choice now but to rip out this junk system from a junk company with junk customer service and replace it with Tesla or some other company that isn't falling apart at the seams. The wheels are coming off at SunPower. Stay as far away as you can. EDIT: They've requested more information from me as if my review isn't legitimate or something. Here is my reference number with their customer support: **. After I wrote a review they reached out (this was 3 weeks ago) and said they would send someone out. Guess what? No one has called and I still haven't heard from them.

Honestly, I wasn't interested in going solar until natural gas prices started to increase. I decided then to invest in solar so that I could at least do something to help keep my electricity bills down. I'm not just a vet of two armed conflicts but I retired as an Air Force officer. No one advised me of this program when I installed my system two years ago. When I called recently about it, Sun Power said it was up to the dealers to offer the rebate and that it was too late to apply for the benefit. .

The reps were great. The enrollment was a very smooth process. The installers did everything in a day. It was pretty quick. SunPower has an app that's awesome. I check it all the time. I can predict my electric bill from that app because it tracks all my power in and out. So I can just look at that to know how we're doing. But I've been trying to get more panels and it's been difficult. The dealer did the installation and they don't want to do an add-on.

I used a third party vendor and they pointed me to SunPower. They also helped me with the enrollment. So when I actually dealt with SunPower, it was very easy. There was some problems that they detected right after installation, and they came and fixed it without even me knowing it. They had to go back up on the roof. So they're monitoring it, and it's working fine. It's great. I love it.

A Solar System is a great way to save money on our electric bill. Living in South Florida, power outages are a real issue after a hurricane, so we also included a battery to give us the ability to store power. Our contract was signed at the end of 2021, BUT due to Pandemic issues, starting the process took much longer than we had expected. When the parts were finally available, the installation team did a great job and finished in a reasonable time. There were challenges at the end, we think the city inspectors didn't fully understand the way the system worked. We feel that SUNPOWER needs more electricians who speak better English to help with inspections in our area. Finally, after the inspection certification, FPL jumped right in and we were up and running in no time!
We have now experienced using the solar system for the past month. Our first full month’s electric bill was 85% less than our annual monthly average! Our project coordinators Julia, and later Melissa have been amazing. Melissa helped us make it to the finish line! She and her team were great! We also want to give a “shout out” to William, who was always polite and thoughtful helping with coordinating appointments. We recommend SUNPOWER to our friends and family!

I have a house with all electric utilities, including the water heater and central HVAC, and an electric car. Going solar was a no brainer for me but I went with Sunpower because of the high efficiency output of the system. Because my demand is so high I need a system as efficient as possible to squeeze as many electrons as I can out of my limited roof space. I had a solar system on a different house before and I am impressed with the quality of the Sunpower components and the app.
I did have some delays while getting through the permitting phase and the centralized Sunpower customer service center was frustrating to work with. You can't call your representative directly, which becomes time consuming when you have a lot of back and forth communication to take care of. They also switched my project manager three times through the months that it took to get my system running. This was also frustrating but the last person was great and made up for the shortcomings of the previous two. At the end of the day, Sunpower made everything right and I have a great solar system.

I had been wanting to have solar panels installed for some time. When I finally decided to research and obtain info, only SunPower and one other company contacted me. Both companies provided almost identical proposals, but we chose SunPower because of their reputation and their ability to manufacture their own panels. I always wanted to have solar. I want to try to cut down on the electric bills. But so far, it's not working out. We have SRP as our electric company and first off, when you get solar, they have to install another meter which they charge you $10 a month for right there. Also, the solar panels I have, they have it on certain times of the day that they’re charging you more for electricity than less, and then they pay you a fixed rate which is way lower than what they charge you for buying electricity, and then they pay you a lot less.
So far, it really hasn’t helped out a whole lot except when I go on vacation, I turn all the AC and everything off, and then I’ll have some bills that are a little bit lower. But just the way they time it as far as the rates, it's not really helping out 'cause they wanna get paid the same amount as far as I can tell. They don't wanna have less electric bills. I wish I had known that ahead of time that they were gonna be like that. SRP just doesn't wanna treat you right.
But I like having the panels 'cause I envisioned the future getting a battery pack and being able to save some money. SunPower also has an app that I like. You can go on the app and you can see how much power you're generating. It's nice to be able to see how much power you're making on everything during a sunny day. The installation was seamless, too. Other than them coming earlier than I thought they would. It's good as far as how quickly they got out there and did it.

The representatives at SunPower were very good. Jay was very good. As a matter of fact, we got to a point where we almost didn't wanna do it, because, all of a sudden, the prices spiked about a month ago. I was like, "Interest rates spiked. We'll just put it on the shelf for a while." Jay came up with some innovative ways to persuade us to continue the process, and it worked out well. We're happy. We just had the initial survey of the house done last week, and so far, they've fulfilled everything they said they were gonna do.

I liked that SunPower is a family-owned and operated business and that they not only sold the solar panels but they install them instead of contracting out to another company for installation. I really liked that I only need to call one company if I have any issues with any of my solar systems. Enrolling was easy. The guy came out to the house and he made everything very simple for us for the enrollment process. Installation is on Friday. It has been quite an ordeal to kind of get that installation date, but now that it's set, I’m okay. They did promise us by the end of December, and we're gonna be getting it by February.

We decided to go solar to help save on our energy bill and to get a little off the power grid. Everything was and has been a simple and easy process. Our sales rep Jorge was and still is doing a fantastic job. We are unhappy with being told we needed a panel upgrade and not receiving such thing. Jorge is still trying to make us very happy customers, despite Sunpower not upholding to what we need to use our new solar system properly.

I wish I never did. To start with it’s the contractor you all use to sell and install the system. Nothing has resolved for 2 years. In addition your customer service department needs complete do over. You keep the customers on hold over 40mins with no one updating the customer. If I could give 0 starts that’s what I would do!!

The service technician was able to locate my account and helped me with software download for monitoring. I was very pleased with his helpful attitude. Our equipment is working properly after several years of installation. I am very happy with the service.

I leased solar panels approx 6 years ago and was told I could upgrade to larger system at the time I had installed. Now Sun Power tells me that I can’t upgrade to larger system because it’s a lease. I would have to keep paying on my current lease and get new system. They lied to me and now since I’m retired and I bought an electric vehicle I’m using more and now I have a system that’s costing way too much money. DO NOT USE SUN POWER!

SunPower's customer service has been good. The only issue that I had was getting an appointment for the labor. They were a little overbooked back then. It looks like there was a lot of demand. Other than that, everything was really good. I have lower monthly bill mostly during the hot weather, summer, and part of the spring, then fall. It's pretty much all year but some months more than others. Overall, I'm very happy with the system and I'm pleased with the service.

One of the workers was a jerk. But Doug, our territory sales rep, continues to be amazing. He came out, met with us, and came back after he did a proposal. We did not want the solar panels in front of our house. That was an important thing to us. He came back, spent time with us and rearranged where we would put the solar panels to get the best efficiency. He was out here three times.
I heard Doug is no longer with the company, and that's unfortunate, because he was the reason why we went with SunPower. He was awesome in explaining everything. We're happy, so far. However, we assumed the panels would be black when we got them but they weren't, and black would be an additional charge. We decided it wasn't worth the additional charge to get it. So, we stayed with it. I wish I had known upfront that they wouldn't be black. Other than that, we have seen a lower monthly bill, and referred Doug out to a couple of other people.

My solar power has been fine, so far. The payment has been great. I have the mobile app, which I enjoy thoroughly. I just need someone to explain it to me. I would recommend better explanation of how to use it and interpret it. And a bill so we know what we're looking at on the NEM. Because the utilities talk about a delivery rate. It has been a learning process, where if they had explained it to me, I would've understood it. I wouldn't have to spend so much time looking at it. The rep demonstrated it but he did it fast and didn't leave a lot of time for questions. And the first bill I got, it would have been nice if either the sales rep or someone came out and said, "Now, this is what you're looking at." But that was the only disappointment. SunPower did everything. The salesman was a good experience. And the installation guys were excellent. I love it so far.

We're still in the earlier stages of the process. We've only done the surveying. We haven't done any installation, but so far, so good. I have another company that does have solar, and by comparison, SunPower is much better. They are more organized.

We were required by law to have solar in the new house. Our only option was to purchase or lease from SunPower. We decided to purchase so we can take advantage of the credit from the state and Al’s possibly from the federal government if it also offered any credits for going solar.

Everything the salesman said they would do, they did. With the panels, our bill has definitely been lower. The only thing I would do differently is to have them installed on an arbor so I could clean them. Also, my app isn't monitoring my house. It tells me to sign in every time and it takes me to the forgot password page. So, I hit view demo and it pulls up the production, consumption and storage. But mine doesn't have storage. Also on some days, when I click on it, it shows that my system is only producing 500. Today is cloudy and the app is saying we're producing 10.2 kilowatts. Other than that, I recommend SunPower to everybody.

Overall the experience was good. However it took a long time from the time we originally signed to today with the system finally turned on. Also, poor communication when installation date was changed, but the crew did not get the message. Also had to change the location of the conduit linking the panels. Not a big problem and it was handled in a timely manner. Other than the time it was a good experience.

SunPower's reps came out and did the drawing of the optimal location of the panels. We went back and forth on how many we really needed, given our energy consumption needs in the past and the future, then we talked about the financing route. We ultimately wound up doing with Tech Credit Union. But then, from start to finish, our experience was pretty seamless. We had a couple of guys up on the roof for a few days, and they stayed on site, showed me how the system works and how the app works, and got set up. It was pretty idiotproof, so we liked it a lot.

System failed on Nov 1 and it took until January 23 to correct. The company did not keep its promises regarding ongoing payments during the outage and also charged me a service fee for a non payment that they had approved. I made many phone calls and spent literally hours on the phone trying to get some action.

The sales rep from SunPower was really friendly and outgoing and explained everything detail by detail about how it would work and how much I would save. So far, he's been 100% accurate. He was also available via email at any time I needed and had any questions. It took a little bit more than expected. But it was easy. It was the perfect amount of panels for what I wanted. As soon as everything got approved, the installation went quickly. The only thing that took a little longer after that was just getting the final approval from the APS.
SunPower has an app with your login information. You could track everything on your phone. It gives you the accuracy of how many kilowatts each panel is producing throughout the day. It's very user-friendly. I love going solar with SunPower. I’ve already saved within the first month since the system got turned on. I've noticed a big difference in my electricity bill dropping.

I Purchased 26 Sunpower solar panels. The panels have met my expectations. I am no longer paying PG&E, outrageous monthly charges. I have them professionally cleaned once, twice per year, and no additional maintenance required. Recently, I introduced Sunpower solar panels, to a friend and he purchased 24 panels. I am in the process of receiving $500 for the successful referral.

I looked up the best providers for panels and SunPower was one of them. I talked to an agent and it sounded like SunPower was who I wanted to go with. I got my son and a friend to do it, too. SunPower did us great and they hooked us up with a company. When the panels were installed and when I hooked it up with the electric company, the trade was one-for-one. SunPower originally said I wouldn't have to pay the bill for the electricity. I just pay off my panels. But they changed this and they don't exchange it one-for-one anymore. The company, Rhythm, changed where we have to pay for electricity.
When we talked to the electric company yesterday, we were told that SunPower did not do a part. But one of the reasons that we signed up to get solar was because we had an understanding through whoever it was we talked to that was a SunPower agent that they could hook us up with an electric company that will make it so that we don't have to pay the electric company. We only have to pay for our solar panels. This worked for a year then the electric company changed it so that now we have to pay them. We check on the computer every day and look at how much we're pulling in through the solar panels and we still did not have to pay an electric company because we make all of the electricity through those panels. That changing on us was a downer.
Another thing is with the way that the panels are positioned on our house, that works excellently at this time of the year. We got the panels installed in October, a year ago. During this time of the year is when we were getting the most from them. But the sun goes to a different position in the summer. You would think that you would make more in the summer, especially in Texas, but because the sun is in a different place, we don't make what we do in the winter through those panels. That part isn't very good because the summer is when you pull all this electricity for your air conditioner, which has the most usage that we ever have. Also, by signing up our son, we were supposed to get something from SunPower but we haven't had that happen yet.
SunPower seemed like it was a no-brainer and that there was a fixed thing happening with our electric bill and that was our attraction. It was very pleasing to us. And now, since it's not gonna be up in the air again, we wouldn't be able to tell somebody, "Oh, it's gonna be working for you like this," because we have no idea how it would work for them.

I told Sunpower the issue and they got as far as bringing solar panels out here before they realized they couldn't resolve the issue. They didn't have the expertise. They called somebody at the damage control division who vetoed, and told them, "No, don't put those up. Take them back." That was as far as they got.

At the time, Sunpower had the best proposal and the best working group in my locale. But they have been flat-out uncommunicative. I attempted to reach out for them for over two months. I asked them to give me a call because I had some questions after the inspector came by my home. They wanted me to pull a permit to finish some work. From my perspective, it was entirely unnecessary and I wanted to ask him about that specifically and where they were coming from in that regard. This was in early October. I was hoping to get this project done by the end of 2022. But that hasn't been the case.
I was pretty anxious to hear back from Sunpower so we could continue moving this thing forward. Ironically, I just got something else from the SunPower rep today from Docusign, wanting me to sign something. But they haven't responded to my initial questions and/or concerns. Other than my project was going to design right after the inspector was here, I've not heard anything from anybody. I have attempted to reach out to call the coordinator. I've emailed him on the phone number and email address that the initial correspondence was set up through. But there was no response at all. I had another SunPower person call me a week ago and I got the same response from them, "Oh, my." They were surprised as well. They said, "But we'll try to reach him right now." But they weren't able to reach him. They said, "Well, we will pass this on and we're also going to let his supervisor know." But it's been a week and that was the latest.
I have escalated your case on your behalf and assigned it to our Executive Support Specialist team for further review. A case specialist will be assigned to your case, and once it is reviewed, they will reach out directly to assist you. I apologize for any inconvenience but ask for your patience while they look to remedy this situation.

With my first house, I went with a different company and had a 40-panel system back then. The house is only 500 square feet bigger. This time, we only went with 24 panels because of the efficiency of the panels. But they're not up yet. They went through plotting, and now, it's permit. They're going to be installing soon. But David was really good and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions and he's been on top of things. Sunpower had a better reading of what electricity you use and how much, like going for two years versus one year. Because one year could be sunnier or you use a lot less or more electricity. But they average it over two years compared to the other companies. The other companies are trying to oversell me on panels even though I didn’t need it because I didn't produce as much as they said I did. So Sunpower went the extra mile and took the time and did it right.

Sunpower is using subcontractors to install solar panels. At the time, the contractors they used were new. So we have an issue with the logistics of the schedule. We were not happy with that part. Also, the contractor was not very professional on how to handle the installation. They would say, “We’ll be there,” but then they will not. Also, there was no communication via email or phone provided to us so we were waiting. Then they would not show up. But I already took the time off. So it was always a day for me. But all in all, the product itself is good. We're not having downtime or any sort of power or energy issues. The agent that helped us started the project until the completion was really good and very thorough. Unfortunately, at the time the installation was ongoing, she was on a vacation so there was no communication provided to everybody.

I have been in communication with Sunpower since October 2022. My remote monitoring system (RMU) has not been working since then and after waiting for two months for them to select a SUBCONTRACTOR to come out and just take a look and determine what the issue is, the system is STILL not working. The electrical company is charging me thousands of dollars every month because my solar panel system is inoperable and not providing any wattage to the grid line.
On December 6th (more than two months since I contacted them) they sent out a technician to check out the system, they replaced some components but in the end still left my property without fixing the entire system and the RMU was still not functional. It is now January 18th, and today I received an email from them saying that "they are working on it" while I'm stuck here month after month paying ridiculous electrical bills. If you want a company to not provide adequate service AFTER they have initially installed your solar panel system, SunPower is your company. Terrible service. I have never in my entire life spend almost 6 months with a company trying to fix an issue. Ridiculous!

Sunpower was really good. The reps were able to answer questions very clearly for me, clarified things when I wasn't sure and they were very down-to-earth about it. The crew that installed the panels was very good as well. They kept me informed the whole time. They told me what they were doing as they put the stuff up, then they told me about the difference in the size of panels because they found they could use a larger panel to come up with the same expectations that they were looking at. Even though the panel is a bit larger, it took up a bit less space on the roof. It was great. The only problem I've had, because I'm still not on solar, is they ran something that the power company came out and said they couldn't do through the same opening the power was going through between my meter and my panel inside the house. I'm still waiting for them to clear that up because the power company could not run their test because of that.

We had just moved into an old house and had Sunpower install panels on our roof. The sales and installation process was straightforward. Panels were quite expensive. Our complaint was the inspection. When Sunpower came to inspect our roof to make sure it was suitable to install the panels, they said everything was ok. 1 year later, with the recent rainstorms, we noticed several leaks in our roof. We decided to replace our roof. Sunpower charged us $5k to take the panels down and reinstall them after the roof was replaced.
After brief inspection, our roofer told us that our roof was in horrible condition and showed us pictures. He said that it was unethical that Sunpower would install panels on a roof in such poor condition. I immediately called Sunpower to see if there was an inspection, and if there were any pictures taken. Apparently there was an inspection, with no pictures. I asked multiple sales representatives about being reimbursed for the removal and reinstallation of the panels. For if I had known the roof was in such bad shape, I would've replaced the roof before installing the panels. Still haven't heard any sort of response or accountability.

We are very happy about the energy production and the solar panels themselves, but unfortunately we've had leaks in our roof and bedroom due to the solar panel installation. They did not properly caulk the holes after moving the racks during installation. We have had 2 independent contractors come and take pictures and write a report. It's been 5 months, and SunPower has not honored their roof warranty. Stay away! They are very present and responsive when they sell the product but not afterwards.

1. We purchased Solar a little over two years ago, Sunpower knew we had a budget and decided to just stick whatever panels would fit our budget, but not taking into account our true energy needs.

After sunpower got the permits and placed the panels on our roof, they forgot to turn on the power switch, so we incurred large bills for that entire summer, because the solar wasn’t on and we never knew. The following summer we received another large bill for using their (SCE) grid. Because Solar wasn’t active, and we were using the grid. We got a very large usage charge.
3. After realizing that Sunpower put the wrong number of panels on a roof, we had to purchase out of pocket three additional panels. The representative from Sunpower, who is working on it, lost the paperwork, never got the permit, and so we paid upfront for panels that we were supposed to receive within two months, but which took eight months to arrive. So again we received larger bills from Southern California Edison, as well as having to pay the Solar bill. That should be very clear for you to understand. That’s just a short synopsis of what we went through. Hundreds of emails, phone calls, and a lot of waste of time on this. Time I will not get back, I most likely money I will not get back as well.
Update: Sunpower came up with the amount of $300 as compensation for our troubles, which is a joke considering what we went through, even worse Sunpower never even paid us the $300 they promised us in writing. Josh
Original Review: Our experience with Sunpower Solar began December 2020. We let SunPower know we had a budget of $25,000, and they said that would be plenty for our energy needs. But the reality was it wasn’t close to being enough panels and so we had to pay for additional panels out-of-pocket going beyond our budget. The solar panels were up in the summer of 2021.
Sunpower forgot to turn the switch on once the panels were on a roof. Therefore, we incurred very large summer bills, as well as the additional solar bill to Sunpower. Quite honestly, the whole experience was awful from the beginning to the end. This company is dishonest, if anything goes wrong they’re awful with communication, and they did not reimburse us for anything that they said they would. I would hate for someone else to go through it we did, and therefore I felt I had to write this review.

The sales process was respectable. The rep showed me all the facts and realized I had a few things happening so I couldn't purchase solar right away. I was able to tell them where I was at and they were totally understanding. When everything was situated, I gave them a call back and all the paperwork was really easy. The whole program was fast and smooth. They downloaded the app which made the step-by-step really easy. All I had to do was start paying.
The installers were were really receptive in the sense that they had some problems with getting some supplies. But they said, “Hey, we're working on it. It may take a while.” They ended up finding the parts sooner than planned and the install was done in a timely fashion. I was well pleased compared to other people who I know went with other solar providers and are still waiting and having problems.
Everything is working well and I'm very happy with the purchase. Right after we installed, our power company said there's going to be a price increase. So, I'm like, “Well, that’s good timing.” The app is very easy to understand. I watch it regularly, so it's nice to see that I'm producing more than I'm using, which is nothing but a smile and savings.

The reps' communication was great. They were able to answer any questions quickly. The installation crew was great. The weather wasn't too good that day but they got it all done. So far, going solar has eliminated our power bill. Now, we're just down to a base rate. It's easy and efficient.

Panels quit working in June. Sunpower told me it was just a communications issue, the panels were still putting out power. Later, I looked into it more carefully and found Duke Power had not received any power since June. I called Sunpower several more times and I did troubleshooting over the phone. I called the company that installed it, I did more troubleshooting for them. They concluded the box was defective and said they'd call Sunpower. Apparently Sunpower won't let them fix it. Six months have gone by and I still haven't been able to get someone to come to the house and fix it. What more can I do? $25,000 invested and they won't help.

The installation team was very good. 10 panels weren't performing. But once they got that straightened out, everything worked fine. But after the install was done, someone from SunPower should have come in and asked if we had any questions or explained the process of how it works. Nobody did. I was reading where net metering ends or how that works. I tried to get ahold of the guy that installed it, but I haven't had much luck.

Purchased system June 2022. Installation happened September 20, and at that time all required information was supposedly sent to my electric provider. It’s now the end of December and we’re still waiting for connection. Almost impossible to reach our project coordinator by phone, I have an email chain that’s quite impressive. In the last email I was informed that project coordinator would be checking with his interconnection specialist and would update me later that day with progress, and that we should be functional by ‘the end of this week or early next week’. 2 weeks later and still waiting for a response. That’s how this has gone the past 3 months. Lots of promises and finger pointing at who is responsible but no action.
At one point I contacted my electric provider and discovered that they were still waiting for all the paperwork to be submitted. I understand that dealing with all the necessary agencies is slow and laborious, but 6 months from the time of purchase and still no working system seems excessive. On the plus side the installation was fast and the panels look beautiful up there. Negative side is it’s like purchasing a new car, having it delivered to your home but you can’t drive it because we’re still waiting for the transmission to be installed.

We'll get through the winter now because we’re right in the snow. But soon as spring arrives, I'm going to try to get with SunPower and try to figure out who my daughter can talk to up in Washington, and at least come out and find out if it's feasible there. They're young and they just bought their house, so they could do the lease program and work out just fine. They don't have trees next to their house so it would be a perfect place for it. I know it's cloudy up there, but it would still pay off. I watch ours. Even on cloudy days, it still works. SunPower needs to push a little harder up in Washington, especially on the West Coast. They'd probably generate a lot of work. There's one source for SunPower in the Seattle area. I've never heard of SunPower, and I lived up there for 60 years. So they should do a bit more advertising. In my building, they would get a lot of customers up there.

I went with SunPower because they were rated the best in all kinds of things. Hopefully, that will turn out in the long run. I went with the 12-year interest-free plan and I'm paying about $300 a month for it right now. I'm 66 and I'm not gonna stay in the house forever. I'm not gonna pay them $14,000 a year for interest over 25 years.
I had an interesting experience with SunPower because I was 100 miles away from where they normally do a lot of business and they hadn't done business very much in the area. There was a lot of miscommunication between the electric company in the city and them. We worked through it and that was a hassle. They worked everything out with me and finally got in contact with me. They had some new people in place and it was a learning experience for everybody. In the end, everything was resolved. They did some things really nicely for me and for free. My system just wasn't connected until June so I didn't get any benefits until April and May.
So far, my bill has been low. This summer, it was hot as hell and October was a good month, but I still had to pay a $3 bill. My billing for November and December is $40, which isn't that much, but I'm still reaping the benefit of the system. The weather has a lot to do with that. I am optimistic about the future. We're not going to have 100-degree weather for 25 days. It's rare and we're not going to have all this cloud. Here in Texas, you never know what's gonna happen.

I was talking to some friends and they mentioned the solar company that they went to. I thought that I got the name right but I didn't. I called SunPower and their rep Chris was a great guy. He was the one that made me continue to do business with them. The guys that did the panels were great and they cleaned up after themselves. Compared to my neighbors who did Affinity, the conduit is steel. The guys painted mine black, which was really nice so it doesn't really stand out. They did a nice job and were very nice people.
When I kept getting some blowouts, one of the guys that installed the solar panels came back to do it. I had also a regular electrician come out and he said that the job looked like **. I told the installers that and this one particular guy got angry. He took pictures of it. They got mad when I told them the electrician said that it could catch fire and burn the house down. The installer guy said that was not true. He didn't put certain couplings on. The guy out of Fresno just shoved some stuff through and he said it looked like he did a quick job. Another electrician said he could have done a better job.
I know nothing about electricity and I was just saying was the electrician said. The installer guy got mad at me and said he was out of this. That aside, everything is fine now. That was a complaint of somebody who came out to see what was wired and everything was blowing. But we got that all straightened out and nothing’s blowing anymore. SunPower did a marvelous job.

Really bad customer service, responsiveness, and management of installation process. Let me summarize: 1) Installers tried to change the original design upon installation after a 4-hour onsite inspection. They wanted the change to make installation easier and presented it as a requirement. 2) I said no and they dumped the equipment on my yard and just left it there for 3 weeks. No outreach to explain what is going on. 3) Issue resolved after multiple emails and calls. They installed per the initial design. 4) Installers say a step is missing and I have no clarity on what the step is and when it's going to happen. My point of contact at the company doesn't even know what the step is. It's been weeks since I asked and can't get an answer to this very simple question.
5) Installation inspection failed. I get no proactive outreach to explain next steps. I have to reach out and after multiple emails - each takes a full business day for a response - I still don't know when rework can be done. I still don't know about this mysterious missing step either. It's been two months since installation started and there's no clear path to completion, and no communication with me even after multiple escalations. I tried to complain internally multiple times to no effect so hopefully this public note will help.

"I had 23 years of previous utility bills that I added up and looked at the kilowatts used versus the increments of using more. I live in California where everything is upside down here. Natural gas was promoted in California 12 years ago. Now our governor is gonna get rid of that and he wants everybody to have solar panels. I was looking at it and mathematically, it's gonna be a return on investment down the road.
I researched a lot of companies and I realized there are only two American companies and everything else is fine China. SunPower came in at 24% in terms of efficiency. Their rep helped me along. The setup was the summer of last year and then it was six months later because they were booked up. We also had to wait for our electric company to come and disconnect the power from the post. Other than that, the job was done within a week once everything got okay.
December was when they installed the system. When the electric company came and did the final inspection, I didn't realize that the main panel switch for the electricity to turn on the solar panels was never on. A month later, I got a bill and I realized I was being charged normally. I called SunPower and they told me the system was not on. I thought they were gonna do that. They walked me through how to turn on the system.
That’s the only gripe that I had. SunPower dropped the ball on that. I'm an over-the-road truck driver. I'm gone two, three weeks at a time. I wasn't even home to even physically look at it to see where the switch says 'Off'. It's right next to the electrical panel outside. It's a small electrical panel and it's just a big switch, on-off. When everything is all said and done, go out there and take a look, because SunPower didn't tell me about that. So far, I've gotten my SunPower bill and it's going to be a doozy. They told me that I'm gonna have to pay it in two installments when they add it all up, which is horrible. If you're averaging $200 a month, times 12. And you're gonna have to pay it all in two shots."

I couldn't say enough about the team that came out. Also, I was surprised with how much the system produced. But I was taken aback by the bait-and-switch game or how much you actually get credit for the solar that you generate. That wasn't advertised in the process and PG&E does their best to hide the costs. I really want SunPower's sales team to go into detail of what the pricing is. I want to know why I'm dropping 30 grand on the system. Other than that, SunPower is trying to give people affordable power and I definitely recommend them. People just need more information to make their decisions.
I tried to call and ask, "Hey, what's the rough cost to add a battery to my house? I don't need it down to the dime. I want a ballpark." It took me a half dozen phone calls. It would be really great if there were rough costs out there within your company to do a quick budget assessment. When I can't get a simple answer like that, it makes me really frustrated.

SunPower is competitive with the lower-priced people. The guy that sold us the product convinced us that it was the better one. I got three more panels that I was supposed to get but still have to pay an average of 110 bucks a month for my electricity. I was hoping not to pay anything a year because I had three extra panels. They said without those three extra panels, I should be fine. With the three extra, I didn't know if I was gonna get a refund or a rebate every single year, but I didn't think I was gonna be paying 1,300 bucks. I might be calling to get another panel or two. I'm disappointed. It’s better than an average of $400 a month, but I was expecting zero after getting extra panels.
I tried to call about a couple of different things, and either I left a voicemail that no one ever returned, or when I contacted somebody about what happens when you refer a friend, that particular person had no idea even though I found out later that there is an incentive. There's $500 to the person that either referred a friend, or the friend that they got would get $500 off. But none of that was disclosed to me when I asked. They said they were gonna get back to me but never did. My other phone call back to them was the month of September, where when I got my reading of how much energy we produced and used that month, half that month was not disclosed. There was no return phone call. It's very frustrating. I feel there was a half a month there of energy I earned. I don't know how many times that's happened, but I only noticed that one month.

I scheduled my solar panel on April, 2022, They set it up very happy yet little I know I will be frustrated with the results due to waiting period of 2 months, I can handle at least for working with the borough and fire department. But when I ask the PSEG they said call the Sunpower for net metering. Until now exactly Dec. 1, 2022, Sunpower is not doing anything to have a net metering for the solar. It's supposed to be 2 months only from April. Now it's December. Go figure. I'm not trying to give negative review but that's happening now. All I need is let me know when is the net metering will happen since the solar panel was activated and and I'm paying monthly already from April and I don't get my services. It's like buying a cellphone, paid it and you never know when will it come, Again go figure. Too much excuses! CAN YOU JUST PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN?!

I was in the market for solar and I was looking at different providers. I was planning on staying in my house for the next 30 years and when I was looking at warranties, SunPower was the best one with a warranty and that was actually able to back it up with reliability. It's a little pricier but for the longevity and their reliability, it’s good. That's what sold me on that and I'm very satisfied with my decision.
When SunPower got the ball rolling, they kept me updated every single step of the way. I'd hear stories of other people going with other companies and them taking months and months without a response to get this stuff going on. But with SunPower so far, it's been a pretty good experience. My system got installed and commissioned last year around October. It's been operational for a whole year already.
The only thing that I noticed is that the production is a little bit lower. But it's because we're in fall and it's wintertime, so the sun is out less during the day. The production is good during the summer and it offsets my energy usage well. I am able to track what is being produced on the SunPower app. The user interface is easy to manage. I also have an energy SunVault so I’m able to stop at a certain point in time so it doesn't discharge.I can save some power in case of an outage.

I have been chasing two issues with SunPower since June without resolution. The easier of two issues was three failed microinverters, but it took 4.5 months for their technicians to even diagnose this issue due to SunPower being unresponsive to scheduling requests, followed by their first team of technicians not performing all the diagnostics. A new technician eventually confirmed the inverter fault a couple of months later. Throughout this process, each time I contact SunPower, it's always "we'll be in touch with you in a few days," and I almost never hear back. It's 1-2 months between meaningful steps forward (service visit or appointment scheduling). We're nearly at six months, during which the sunny season came and went, and this relatively simple issue of replacing three inverters still hasn't been addressed.
The second issue is damage to my main electrical panel's bus bar where the SunPower-installed photovoltaic system ties into the grid. It arced, damaging the bus bar. SunPower has been vague on whether they'll fix the bus bar, despite it falling within their hardware installation. It would have been detected during installation if the electrician had inspected the breaker to discover that the copper contacts were loose. Making matters worse, the same technicians who failed to diagnose the above issue took a grinder to the bus bar in order to remove enough metal spatter that a breaker could again fit in that position.
Once I saw what they had done, and how much thickness had been removed, I emphatically told them they could not put a breaker in that position -- this creates a fire hazard. I requested they place the breaker in the position below. Looking into this later, I learned that taking a grinder to the bus bar constitutes unauthorized modification of UL-listed electrical equipment, which is an electrical code violation. Upon notifying SunPower of the violation, I was told a supervisor would contact me on a specific date. That day came and went, without contact. I have tried to contact them in writing since, but they appear to have stopped responding to me altogether.
Both issues remain unresolved, and SunPower is not responsive. Potential customers beware: Once SunPower has your money for the installation, they have no further financial incentive to uphold the warranty. It costs them less to keep sending customers in circles or to dismiss them. Further, their technicians (electricians?) seem hit-or-miss at best. The one decent technician I had was subcontracted by SunPower from another company and was not a SunPower employee.

It’s not the sales person you need worry about, it’s the bozos they have coming out to install and maintain your system. Sunpower.com hires any schmuck off the street, puts a power tool in their hands and calls them a Technician! My system hasn’t communicated properly for the last 1 1/2 YEARS! Despite Sunpower sending out a dozen “Technicians”…
I’m all for hiring the Handicapped, but these idiots take it to a new level! Their 100% Guaranteed warranty isn’t worth the paper it’s written on! They sent me an email stating it would be a $300.00 charge for them to send someone down to again attempt get their JUNK to communicate properly! Here’s one for you Sunpower… My Attorney is filing a lawsuit on your Mickey Mouse organization, and by the time he’s through listening to your excuses, that junk on my roof that hasn’t operated correctly since month 6, will be free of charge! I’m done being nice and understanding!

I am sharing my horrible experience with SunPower Corporation at their Richmond, CA branch. System size: 10 kW (25 panels, A-Series 400). Est. annual production: 15,569 kWh. Here's my experience:
1. SunPower badly damaged my roof during solar install. Multiple roof comp shingles were torn and excessively worn shingles from foot traffic caused during installation. (see photos)
2. Some PV panels were improperly fastened with missing mounting clamps.
3. An access hole to run wiring through attic was cut in the ceiling. They said that they would come back to patch but never did.
4. Several PV panels and the frames were scratched during install and visible from street level.
5. PV panels under producing rated power (see photo)
6. The $5,000 electrical credit was not applied towards final bill.
7. Terrible customer communications throughout the project. Project managers don't respond to emails, return phone calls, or would either show up late to scheduled calls or not even at all. About the only person that was punctual and on top of their game was the sales person but even she stopped responding shortly after the agreement was signed.
Re: #6, SunPower was going to upgrade my main electrical panel from 100A to 200A as part of the original agreement. They even sent me a copy of the permit plans which denoted 200A service. However, when their subcontractor that came out to install, his work order was only for 100A. After weeks of going back and forth, SunPower agreed to give me a $5,000 credit and I would pay for the electrical upgrade. After emailing and calling SunPower about the above issues to no avail, they did managed to send me the final invoice.... and I suppose I shouldn't be surprise by this, they did not apply the $5,000 credit!

I was considering solar for more than a year so I started doing my due diligence on the different companies. I wanted to know about the product, durability, and mortality. SunPower seemed to have everything I wanted such as the quality. It is made in the US, they've been around for a while, and they're publicly traded. I felt comfortable. I'm early into this solar thing and it looks like I have a zero electric bill. I'm actually putting power back to the grid. I'm in the black, even this time of the year in the Northeast.
I had an issue with the panels from day one. I had one panel that kept showing me it was offline on my app. I called my three-month representative and he kept telling me that it was data migration, this, and that. Everything looks good on the SunPower side. I wasn't buying what the representative said and I was insisting that they send somebody out. But he kept saying that was not necessary so I took it upon myself to call the 800 number for the first time. I was on the phone for more than three hours. Customer service told me there were times when the panel was not producing power, which really upset me because it wasn't what my representative was telling me.
It took another 10 days for SunPower to send a technician out. I said, "I paid for this. It's a $40,000 installation. It's not 100% working. Send him out with every possible part so this gets resolved." But the technician shows up with no parts. I wouldn't let him leave. He somehow he pulled out a microinverter from the back of his van and claimed it was brand new. He replaced that part. Lo and behold, the system's been working fine now for well over a month. On that whole, it was like pulling teeth just getting through customer service, convincing them to send somebody out because everybody wants to do everything remotely, checking the system, and sending an update. I was very frustrated. But I am happy now even though I have two minor issues going on.
I'm an engineer by trade so I understood the whole solar panel, power, and the apps. But I felt SunPower was dismissing that. It was almost like excuses, where they would check the system and say, "It was fine. We'll send a signal." They led me along for months and I really was upset about that. After giving my representative a 5-star rating, he just disappeared. I was really hoping he would be the guy to go and jump on somebody's desk and say, "Hey, we got to send somebody out there to fix this guy's solar system."

From discussing a plan to implementing, it was a couple of months. There was a wide range of different products available to us that the SunPower designers were able to balance out which ones would fit better, give the most power, while being the most visibly unobtrusive. And we were able to find the perfect one to fit our house. The installation company did a magnificent job. The panels look beautiful. They are not obtrusive and they don't stick out at the house. The installation team was flexible, friendly and customer-focused.

I signed original contracts in October 2021. I was told I would have installation by January 2022. Well Installation didn't happen until August 2022 and I am still waiting for the system to be turned on. Apparentlly 2 panels did not pass the testing and had to be reordered. I waited weeks for 2 panels. Communication is very poor. There is no personal attention and I have felt ignored by them through this whole process. The only thing I'm satisfied with is the cost of my new roof (contracted through SunPower) and the fact that I haven't paid Sunpower any money yet. I'm really hoping I get up and running before 2023 or I won't see a tax credit for a long time!

Updated on 12/08/2022: I posted my own experience dealing with a faulty SunPower equipment installation at the beginning of November. Now it is a month passed, nothing is done still even though they promised they are looking into the issue. Don't use this company's solar solution, you will only get third world grade service if you don't know what you are getting into.
Original Review: Don't not use SunPower, this company has the worst service and support. We have a house with SunPower Solar installed few years back, it's PV box got loose from the outside wall recently, when SunPower came to re-secure the box back onto the wall, the SMUD meter (that sits on top of the PV box) get removed. In order to have the meter put back, it require city for safety inspection, unfortunately nobody initiate the safety inspection hence the meter is never put back on after 2+ months. I called them for help numerous times, and requested for escalation, and I was told they are still assessing the issue. When I called city department handling the safety inspection, the lady told me that it is very unprofessional for SunPower to let home owner trying to resolve the safety inspection like this! I am an extremely unhappy customer, and will never use them if I have choice to choose another company in the future.

I decided to save money with Solar. SDGE cost is so expensive. Many interviews with companies and Precis Solar was my choice. My Solar is up and working and my first SDGE bill was a credit! OMG! I LOVE SOLAR! Precis Solar did a fabulous job. The panels went up so quick and such a great job! The lines that service the panels were placed inside my garage up high, nicely and trust me they are perfections! I even get a referral fee for seeing them off the fwy in Wildomar. GREAT COMPANY! At first, customer service was awesome. Now that our system is installed, we can't get ahold of anybody. I needed to talk to some people over and over again and I can't get ahold of them. Other than that, the equipment, installation and everything else was super good. The techs went out of their way to make my experience really nice.

The gentleman that came to sell, the salesperson for the company that I spoke with, was very good and knowledgeable. He had the actual system on a laptop and he showed me the installation and the best place to install the panels. He showed me the worst case scenario - if my trees grew more than they actually would, but just to be on the safe side, how the shadows would affect the sun exposure. That was interesting. After that, I had not the greatest experience.
The salesperson promised me little perks that had nothing to do with the actual panels themselves. He had some cool SunPower backpack. This was before COVID. I thought it would be cool if we could get a couple of those bags that had SunPower panels on it. And he said, “Yes, of course. Once we're done.” Three years later, when we got them installed, the owner said he didn't know about it. And he just went on Amazon and bought me some generic backpack.
The install was a three-year process. The panels themselves have been, so far, great. Also, I've been able to go on the app and see how much I'm saving every month. It's self-explanatory. It’s a bit delayed sometimes. But I like it. The electrical bill comes in a little lighter. But it was not the greatest experience we had with the installer. Not the greatest communication. And the first year, we were trying to get the panels with the backup battery. But it was on backorder. So, we waited for that. The contract expired before anything happened so we had to redo the contract because of how long we were waiting for the backup batteries from Tesla before the install. So, we were waiting for the Tesla power wall to store the backup energy. That took a while. And from there, it was a headache with the city trying to get the permits. And it was one thing after another.
SunPower said I got 30 days after the install to have the financing start charging me, but it was six months, we were paying for the solar panels, and not having them installed. I ended up having to communicate with SunPower because the installer was not replying. And once I got SunPower involved, one of the guys that was helping me at that point, the gentleman that helped me initially was no longer with the company. So, the guy that called me from the installer to redo the contract ended up leaving throughout the time that I was waiting to get the panels installed, and waiting for the whole city. At the same time, I had SunPower working on the back end, trying to help me out with the financing because they shouldn't have been charging me.

Installed my system in January 2015, and was promised a 10-year warranty on the system, with no mention anywhere that there are different warranty periods for different system components. Had to have the monitoring systems upgraded and changed within a few years under warranty, but then the monitoring system stopped working again December 2021. I found out in February of 2022 and contacted SunPower, who then referred me to Semper Solaris (the installer), who then referred back to SunPower. Now after 8 months of waiting, I received a call from Semper Solaris saying that the new monitoring system, called PV 6.0 is not covered by SunPower Warranty and that's why it's taking so long. The cost is $950 for the new system.
Bottom line, do not trust SunPower's warranty. When I was sold my system back in 2015 I was told SunPower has the best warranty in the business. This has proven to be a bunch 'a hooey. Show SunPower a copy of this text, and ask them to provide you with written warranty on each part of the system one by one, including inverter(s), monitoring, solar panels, etc. I am very disappointed in SunPower, I paid a premium to have SunPower solar system, an AMERIC|AN company, but with this I am now realizing that AMERICAN now translates to "money hungry and dishonorable". This review will be posted on every website possible, so there SunPower, you'll get your $950 worth of "advertising".

We had to wait for the okay from PG&E. But it was very easy. We're in the process of selling our home. But we're going to have a lifetime estate to keep living here. And we wanted to make sure that the panels would still be ours. We're leasing them. And the gentleman did say, as long as we keep paying the payment, that were fine. So, everything will just stay the same. We were very happy with the response we got. We almost make enough each year to pay our $10 to PG&E for the use of their lines almost for the whole year. We're very happy with it. We always have a credit throughout time. So whatever he figured out for us worked out perfectly. Several people have signed up with PG&E with us recommending it.

I chose Sunpower because I believed they had some of the best panels, and an awesome 25-year end-to-end guarantee. Well the install experience was poor, I signed a contract in August, but it took until the end of December to install the panels, then they were not turned on until early February. (May have a lot to do with a poor third party installer) This was about three months later than I was led to believe. The panels worked great, until they didn't. One day I woke up to see no power generation. The company tried to troubleshoot remotely, having me reset the system - but no luck. They told me to contact the original installer. They were no help because there was no contract for support with them.
After a month and leaving another online review, they assigned Huck a tier 3 case manager. Huck had a Solar maintenance company come out to take a look, they tried to reset the system and said it would work as soon as enough sunlight hit the panels. Next day, bright sunny day and nothing. More calls, apparently the maintenance company has closed the purchase order for maintenance and needed a new PO, that could not be generated until Huck got a report from the company about the visit.
Eventually Huck sorted that out sent the same company again and they said I had wiring issues on my roof, but they needed more than one guy together up on the roof to fix it. Huck mentioned that Sunpower may look into providing some type of compensation for the months in loss of power which would be great. Except...
Since then (over two weeks ago) Huck is no longer on my case - but someone else has taken over- but has so far been unable to give me any updates other then they have taken over. (I call or email daily to try and keep this case moving) Also the maintenance company no longer answers my calls. It takes two weeks to a month for them to even schedule a visit).
So it's been over two months now with no power, but my system is online. It takes weeks to months to get the maintenance company scheduled to come out and visit, which more often than not results in no resolution to the issue. So my advice is - go with a quality installer that is local and can provide maintenance in a timely manner if your system goes south for any reason. Sunpower may have a guarantee - but there is NO URGENCY in getting any resolution for your issue and very poor communication. Sunpower doesn't seem to have a good installer network in the Northeast. So think hard about that one.

After moving into our first house, we made the immediate decision to reduce our reliance on the grid as much as possible. After an extensive amount of research & education, we made the decision to go with SunPower panels. We pulled the trigger in August and were thrilled with the quality of the product. We are generating a tremendous amount of energy each day, and our energy bill is now net negative--in a huge way! The installation experience was top-notch as well. We put SunPower as our primary manufacturer recommendation to our friends who are looking for solar panels. They are not the least expensive panels, by a long shot, but there is no better "bang for your buck" brand out there when it comes to efficiency and quality.

We installed solar to help the environment and to save money. Since installation it has provided 99% of our electric use. We heat and cool the house with electricity. We used Moxie Solar for the installation and it went very well.

Our decision to go solar was predicated on 2 things. The first was utility unreliability and the second was the ultimate difference in cost and effort versus a standby generator. The generator needs to be tested regularly, fed fuel, get maintenance, and ONLY earns it keep when the utility is down. Solar and a battery accomplishes the same but takes no more actual work or input once the installation has been made AND helps pay for itself. The cost difference works out to be close to the same when the long term investment in operation and maintenance of the generator is taken into account added to the utility bill reduction.

I am an invalid and spend a great deal of time within the home. I wished to have a level cost of electricity and contribute to a green solution to our energy problem at the same time. My only criticism is that your website to show the performance of my solar system comes up sideways on my iPad instead of the way everything else does. My hands are disabled and I am unable to turn the iPad. Could you please look into this problem and correct it so that the information you provide is appearing on iPads without the need to turn it around.

My complaint is the same as several others listed here. I noticed a spike in my electric bill. I contacted SunPower and was advised that my system was no longer communicating with them or was offline. I had them reset my SunPower access and I find that before my system was offline, it was not producing the same amount of energy by half. I called back and I advised them that one of my inverters is showing zero production and has a red light indicating a problem. I had been advised that SunPower monitored energy production closely and would advise its customers if there was a problem.
The SunPower representative that I spoke with stated that SunPower received too many error/problem messages that it had overwhelmed them. Instead of advising customers of the issues, they just disregarded them as they felt it was all related to the communication issue. I complained about my energy bills and my lease payment and asked for some kind of help or monetary adjustment. I was advised that as per my contract I would receive an adjustment if my system did not produce the guaranteed amount. This is unlikely to cover the increase in my payments to my local energy provider.
I had my case referred to a supervisor and was advised I would receive a "call" within 48 hours. Ivan emailed me within this time and used a blanket statement saying that the communication issue is my only problem and that once they have the parts someone would contact me to make the repair. I responded that this is not the only issue and sent photos of my inverter showing that it was not working. Finally, he listens and makes 2 work orders. They have to outsource this work order. I emailed back that I am glad he is helping me and asked to at least stop auto drafting my lease payment for a system that is not working and Ivan does not respond to this email or the next 3. It takes 2 months for the first visit where the company tells me that they will repair problems but actually just looked at the inverters and said that it was probably just the communication issue.
Next visit, they replace the communication box a few weeks after. I called again and asked them to help because now my energy company is charging me $210-342/month on top of my lease payment when I typically spend $30/month. I am currently scheduled for another site visit on 10/24/2022 and my first contact was 7/1/2022 and I have no faith that they are going to repair or replace this inverter. I had asked 3 times to speak with Ivan's supervisor and I was ignored the first two times and the 3rd request was made today. I have a call into JAMS to begin arbitration and I plan to report them on several platforms. This company has zero respect for their customers and are not able to manage service for leased solar systems in a timely manner!! I highly recommend not going into any contract with them.

I liked how SunPower has a battery and they gave me 100% cover because I don't want to have electricity bills. They work with me and everything so far was perfect. There was a little delay regarding the installation but other than that, it's a great company. Back then my electricity bill used to be around the 500s. Now I have a bill with Edison but it coms at negative $60. I know I'm also helping the environment so I'm very happy with that.

My electric bills have been high after calling my local utility company this past summer. I called Sunpower about 4 times to address the issue. I lease the panel and pay monthly automatically. It turns out I have been paying for about four months while the panels were not working at capacity and paying full electric bills too. It is taking almost 2 months since I started to complain. Sunpower wouldn't send out a technician and gave me a "step-by-step" troubleshooting guide. Not sure if it worked or not. I can't get a hold of them due to the Hour plus wait times on the phone. Also forgot my password and tried to get it changed. The only way to get your password reset is to go through their administrator via email. I've sent 3 emails in the course of 4 days without any support or reply! Very poor customer service!

SunPower was behind a lot so I didn’t get my installation right away. But the installers were neat and did what they were supposed to do. Everything was done in an orderly and professional manner. I'm in Nevada so I haven't had a bill in the summer yet. Evidently, the solar panels are storing up the electricity it's supposed to. SunPower looks like it's good and I would recommend them.

Enrolling with SunPower was very easy, and the reps were very good. The install was right on schedule too. Everything went smooth. Now, I'm making a lot of power, and I sell back to the electricity company. I make about 100 kilowatts a day.

I reached out to four different companies and evaluated price and product. SunPower uses micro inverters for each panel rather than a single inverter, so from a technical standpoint, it seemed like they were the one to go with. In the Houston area, there's a SunPower affiliate called Freedom Solar. Everything I dealt with was through Freedom, and the install was no problem. Before they installed the panels, they had a guy come out. Due to the age of my house, I had to change my breaker box. That was part of the overall package, and they spent the better part of the day pulling the old breaker box and installing the new one.
A week later, they came out and it took them six hours to install 14 panels. We then had a wait till I got the permit to operate from the utility company, and that took a bit longer than they anticipated. There was a problem with some of the paperwork that had been submitted, so the first round, the PTO was denied. They had to go back and redo the paperwork, then it was approved. For the last 12 months, I’ve generated about 85% of my home usage. The only downside I'm seeing at this point is with changes in utility billing.
When I first signed up, my contract was a net metering so I paid a certain cost of kilowatt-hours used, and the utility company purchased back from me at that same price. If I generated 200 and consumed 200, my net usage was zero, and my bill was essentially zero. My contract ended and I had to renew it. Now, I'm paying 21 cents a kilowatt-hour for usage, and I'm only getting back 10 cents a kilowatt-hour for anything I push back to the grid. There's another $40 a month service fee from the utility company as well. So the incentive isn't quite what it was a year ago. Still, it's a good value.

Sunpower has great guys, and I haven't had any issues with my system at all. I was told it takes about two years to really see if I have enough panels up there, depending on when I started. It was like my second true-up. We're about halfway through now coming up to our second year. Do I have enough panels up there? I suspect I don't, and I have room for four more, but installing more panels depends on the pocketbook. There's a good possibility, but it might be a bit down the road too. The price of admission goes up all the time.

The sales rep was excellent, and the installation crew was good. We got a standby generator with our package and that took a long time, but that was not SunPower's fault. We had supply issues around the world at that time. Also, the benefits of going solar just started showing up because the return on the investment wasn't too good. Right now, it's good ‘cause it's that time of year. It doesn't have to be hot, just a lot of solar energy coming down.

The purchase and installation went awesome. Monitoring is a completely different experience as is customer service. Monitoring constantly fails. Wait time for cust serv is ridiculous, often over an hour. Last straw is report showing no power for a whole month.

We did an enormous amount of research early on when we first decided to go solar. This was back in 2008. We looked at all of the hardware that were available on the market, and because we had limited roof space available, we looked for the most efficient system. At that time, SunPower had the most efficient panels per square foot. We interviewed solar installers and looked for those that had the most experience and the most level of education in solar power. The installer that we liked the most has a PhD in Physics, and that's why we picked him. He did not work with SunPower panels, but we told him that we wanted SunPower, so he went through the process of getting licensed for installing SunPower hardware, specifically to do our job.
The installation was straightforward. The only surprise that we had was at the last minute, the installers wanted us to put a new roof on our garage before putting that in. Besides that, all went very smoothly. The city of Pasadena had classes for homeowners that gave tutorials on what to consider when you are going solar, and we attended those. Because my husband and I are both scientists, we did a lot of advanced homework. We looked at the sun angles and built a brand-new structure to cover our back patio. That was built at the same angle as our garage so that both systems had the same lighting exposure.
We had two systems with two inverters, and when the inspector came out, he was quite impressed with the work that we had done. He also realized that our installer was someone who had a reputation of being very good in the field. Our installer has since left the work of installing, and he's now teaching renewable energy at a university locally. We really did our homework, getting the highest quality installer to do the job, and that paid off. We've had the system now for 11 years, and we've been very happy with it. Last year though, I've been very unhappy because when SunPower switched their monitoring system, they took down the website monitoring. We were assured at the time that they were gonna be saving all of our historical data, but it did not come back up when the system went back up. After several phone calls to various representatives, eventually, the data came back up online, but only the most recent data.
I rely very heavily on the historical data. I've done all kinds of analyses and studies, trying to understand the efficiency of our system over the years, when we need to clean, because we've seen the dust buildup is having an effect on the efficiency of the panels. I probably monitor this more closely than anybody else who has ever purchased solar panels. Until a year ago, everything was perfect and I would have given SunPower a rating of 5. Today, because the hardware is still going well after 11 years, I'd still give them a 3.
I had always recommended SunPower to other people, both because of the research we had done on the efficiency of the panels, and secondly, because of the huge benefit it was for us to be able to do all of this monitoring from home. Unfortunately, because we haven't been able to rely on the monitoring, we go outside every single day right before sunset and write down all the numbers off of both of the inverters and the hardware that sends it off to the city. It's a huge pain in the neck to have to go out there every day and write all these numbers down on a piece of paper, because SunPower really dropped the ball with the new website. They've lost all my historical data, because despite sending in email requests to get the historical data restored, it hasn't been restored yet. I'm very disappointed right now.

Our system stopped reporting due to the new change over to 5g on the cell phone towers. We contacted SunPower to be told this was the issue and was not covered under our warranty. Also, at the time being told this, they did reveal that they would cover it if we had leased our system because with leased customers "it is in their best interest" to be able to monitor those systems but customers such as ourselves it's not. So they penalize those who purchase their system. After several calls and emails there has been no resolution except to pay for the fix which is not cheap. There are zero concessions for customers who purchase their systems since they already have been paid.

Updated on 10/22/2022: Recently made a review on this site and thanks to Consumer's review a manager from SunPower Solar was assigned to my case. Thank you. It has been almost 6 months that my solar panels have not been working. (No electric produced by panels). On Sept 22 a tech was at my house and turned the switches off. Sunpower about a month later after numerous phone calls the manager assigned to my case finally said they are coordinating with their repair company to replace the inverters. How long does it take to get these inverters? I am still waiting for repair.
On top of this Sunpower still wants me to pay my monthly lease payment which I put the automatic payments on temporary hold through their billing dept. This has become a nightmare. Constantly on phone with different departments promising that once the system is fixed and they can see how much it under produced, I will be reimbursed. The manager assumed to me is coordinating with the the repair company and updating me approximately every 5 business days. I lost the whole summer Sun and pages my full electric bills to Con Edison NYC. Now the winter is almost here and The sun is lower in the sky and if they fix the system they would not produce much electric until the spring. I am totally disgusted with this situation I am in. Any additional help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Original: My electric bills have been high after calling my local utility company they said my panels were not producing electricity. I called Sunpower about 8 times to address the issue. I lease the panel and pay monthly automatically. It turns out I have been paying for about a year while the panels were not working and paying full electric bills too. It is taking almost 2 months since I started to complain. Calling customer service for tech support over and over. Finally got a job ticket **. They said a company called Nova Source will call me to set up an appointment.
Some showed up on September 22 2022 with no call and I was not home. My Ring cameras recorded the visit. He was here one hr. Left without fixing problem. I call Sunpower tech support and they referred my case to a company called Nova Source that gave me an appointment for 3 weeks on Oct 4th. Still waiting. No solar and still paying my lease with no solar benefits. I am very disgusted with Sunpower for handling my problem for so long and still collecting my monthly fees while the panels are not working. They never notified me of the breakdown by email or call. After all they should know that their panels were not producing. It looks like I should be reimbursed for the amount of time these panels were not producing and their failure to monitor and notify me of the breakdown.
I called billing and no one answers just put on hold with annoying music playing. I will never recommend this company anymore their service is terrible. Amedeo **, I am a 10 yr user and have referred many customers. Please someone from Sunpower look into my case and do something to help me get financial reimbursement for all my troubles.

In the past my power bill was up to $600 a month because of the heat. I found that SunPower is using the same type of system that they use in NASA and I was very impressed by that. It is very helpful and it has dramatically decreased my monthly payment. The work ethic of their team was excellent. They even told me that at some point, I need to have my roof repaired as they had broken some tiles while they were on top of the roof. They replaced them with all the extras I had and that was amazing. It has been a really good experience with them. I love getting my monthly bill as an email.

We have a very steep roof. When I was trying to get an installer, the first couple balked and said they couldn't do it. It was impossible. Then we found one who did it and did a great job with it. Initially, our electric bills went way down. We were even negative in the summer and applied that as a credit toward natural gas. But that's not true anymore. More recently, we put in air conditioning and we got an electric car. But it's still much lower than it would have been if we didn't have it. I'm very pleased that we did it. SunPower is terrific.

I have been a SunPower residential customer for about five years. The sales rep really sold us on how efficient the solar panels were and the great customer service SunPower provided. We were told that SunPower would continuously monitor the installed system and take corrective action if an issue was detected. Great! Sign me up!
To date, SunPower has never reported an issue to us, we have to notice an issue and contact SunPower Customer Support every time. The unforgivable issue right now is our SunPower Solar System stopped generating energy on June 28th 2022. We didn't know until the local power company (not SunPower) called us at the end of July to question our unusually high electric bill. We checked the inverter and sure enough, there was an error code. I immediately contacted SunPower to open a case. After much back and forth the representative told us that they would schedule someone to come out ASAP. One week...Ten Days...Two weeks later and several phone calls to SunPower we were finally given an appointment... 5 weeks from that date on Sept 6th! I called SunPower several times and requested to speak to the case manager but never ever received a call back from anyone at SunPower!
Sept 6th, the technician finally showed and diagnosed the inverter problem as the main logic board was bad. He said he ordered the part and should have it in about two weeks. Two weeks comes and goes and still no word from SunPower. I called again, was told by the representative that they need to replace the whole inverter and just got final sign-off but could not give me an install date. Again, I asked to talk to the case manager...nothing!
Now, Sept 26th, I received a notice that they want to schedule the inverter install on Oct 31st...another 5 weeks! I've called SunPower several times and asked for the case manager (finally told his name was Ken?) but he couldn't talk as he was on the phone with another customer... but the Rep said she spoke to Ken and he gave her additional details about the install. I insisted he call me back but still no call!
I live in Tucson and the summer months are critical for solar production and I've already lost 3 months of solar generation and unless SunPower gets their act together I'll lose at least one more month! And that doesn't even begin to cover the financial impact of the high summer electric bills ($ thousands already), the frustration of dealing with an uncaring company and my time and energy... Another Frustrated SunPower Customer.

We chose SunPower to install solar on our home after an exhaustive research process. Their system was 10-15% more expensive than others, but decided to go with them due to warranty reasons, the likelihood they would be in business the full term of warranty, and the perception that they were more professional than the others and the install would be more pain free. We could not have been more wrong.
From the onset, the design and site survey process was delayed and our system was put into service nearly a full two months after the initial projection. Along the way, they drilled into a live main gas line while installing supports to the roof, while my family was in the house and my daughter was playing right below. The line could have easily sparked and caused an explosion. We were evacuated by the fire department for most of the day into 110 degree heat without accommodation from Sunpower.
After the system was installed, there were a host of workmanship issues that Sunpower only fixed after a month of back and forth and tons of time spent on our side. Sunpower also promised compensation as an act of good faith to make the gas line incident right, which we are going on 2 months without response from Sunpower. Not worth any sort of premium and after dealing with their customer service, I would not use again even if they were 50% cheaper than the competition. Buyer beware.

The solar stopped working early last month so I contacted the customer support and opened a ticket as the solar is still under the warranty. Nothing happened for 4 weeks and they kept saying that they were monitoring. Then they send an email asking me to schedule for a site visit with the local installer. I got a quote from the local installer for the site visit and I called customer service again to ask who is paying for the site visit. Apparently, he has no answer and submitted another ticket. Now it’s nearly two months with several calls and emails but the issue hasn’t been resolved. Seems like they don't care at all. I did read the reviews online and looks like everyone has the same problems.

I purchased my first home and I took over the SunPower agreement 3 months ago and the nightmare started. Once you sign the deal you are screwed. They know that you are hooked 15 or 30 years and they don't care at all if you have issues. I suppose to not have any electric bill and my last 2 month bill was over $400 plus sun power monthly payment. One of my unit doesn't work. I tried every way to contact them and no solution at all. Again they know you are paying the money and don't care. Did open a case, send so many emails. Talked few person. They suppose to schedule service weeks ago and no luck.
I did read the reviews online and looks like everyone has the same problems. If I can cancel it I will do it today. I am stuck 15 years with this guys. Already talking to lawyer and see what my options are. I can't imagine next 15 years dealing with this customer service that doesn't do anything. I did sign up first day to Auto Payment and had issues with that too. It's sad that this companies can hook you up for decade payment and can get away w/ this. It's simple. If you can't fix your product don't sell it. Now I have to pay electric bill plus sun power bill. What's the point having solar in this case?

We had looked at different pricing and talked to a few other people and we had the SunPower salesperson come over and he sold us on it. His name is Tom and we love him. He was great. He was so nice and professional. He was so easy to understand. He did a great job. I was so dead set against having the system. But after he explained it all to us and everything they did and how we were going to come out ahead with electric, I just said, "Well, geez, it sounds stupid not to." We were not here when they installed the system. But Tom was here when they came in and he saw through everything. When we came back, my husband was happy with what they did. We went back and forth on the phone and over the internet and stuff with emails. But we were totally satisfied.
I had an electric bill since the system was installed in July last year and we're now down to minus $56, which next month, we will probably have a payment to the electric company. It's been a lifesaver for us. When we get the electric bill and everybody else is talking about their electric bill, we're saying, "Well, we haven't had one since last July." They don't believe us.

Sales pitch was awesome. Sales guy was responsive and helpful. But once they have you signed up you get NOTHING! Talked to my coordinator's boss and he was a total jerk. Apparently they think email with no phone call follow up is appropriate communication. No call or text saying “hey we haven’t gotten a response”… We need signatures or anything like that. You call the 24/7 line and just get receptionists. Then I filed an email complaint and 3 weeks later ClAudine is still waiting for Colten to reply even though my written complaint was that Colten is not communicating! I mean it is just absurd!! I don’t recommend this company at all!!! Awful communication. No Follow up. No help! Stay away!!!

I have 2 solar power units in my home. Both have had issue in less than a 5 year span. Currently, 1 unit is not working. Troubleshooting did not work and next step was getting a tech to come to visit. It's been over 3 months and I still can't get a technician to the house. Every time I call or email, I receive a promise of a call back and update, which never happens. Go to a company that values your time and respects their commitment to the customer. Their availability and lack response to my issue has been very unprofessional. I would not recommend using SunPower for solar panel units or services.

I've had it done twice with SunPower. I've got some on my rental as well, and we got SunPower on both of them. The first time, it took a little longer to install. The second time was quick and smooth. It was two different companies that did the install. Going solar with SunPower, I've never had to pay PGE a dime.

I did not choose SunPower for my home- we assumed a lease when we purchased the home. We are having issues with our system and have requested them to service the panels (which is included in our lease). First call was 1 1/2 hours of hold time, to open a ticket. I was told that I would have a response by Friday. Cut to Friday, SunPower has not followed up as they promised and I am currently 2 1/2 hours deep into a hold time to get some sort of response. THIS IS BEYOND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Who has time for this? It really feels like this company tries to ice out their customers to prevent holding up their responsibilities in the lease. BEWARE. I am a real estate professional and WILL NOT be able to recommend this company to any of my clients.

Updated on 09/16/2022: The saga continues from Sunpower's incompetence. Previously mentioned cancellation at last minute- twice! Company reached out after seeing negative review - I called back and emailed them back and it is stalled since. In the meantime we get yet another automated message about an upcoming installation which clearly never materialized. At this point the company’s right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Cannot be trusted with a $50K investment on your rooftop. Move on folks - find someone else to do the expensive job.
Original Review: We are appalled by the service rendered to us! They set up automated messages stating they were coming to install all week long and the day before cancelled- No one had the decency to call and give us an explanation why - email cancellation. we had taken the day off to have this done. 1 week later a phone call from the manager to explain (if anything) and reschedule for another time due to lack of panels (I understand supply chain issues but if you did not have the panels at hand you should not have scheduled the installation till you were sure!)
The day before the second installation date - cancelled again!!- No communication - I do not trust the company at all - If this is the quality before an install what can we expect after the panels are up if something needs to be addressed?? Absolutely disgusted by the treatment rendered here - supply issues or none! -:Look for someone else!

My leased Sunpower solar has been broken for nearly 3 months. Initially Sunpower contacted me letting me know the system was disabled and provided a reset sequence that did not resolve the issue. After several subsequent phone conversations over the past two months, a local technician was scheduled. During the past three weeks, I have been trying to contact the billing department to understand when Sunpower will credit my account for the missing power related to my solar outage. It seems nearly impossible to get through to billing or customer service as I have spent several hours trying. The one callback I got was missed as they called me back at midnight. The system has been trouble free for ten years but the last three months have been a nightmare and the system is still offline. My overall experience related to outage is poor and I am disappointed and not likely to do business with Sunpower again.
