Good idea to save money and help the environment. The SunPower system represented the best value for the yield. We are in line with the projected savings provided by the company when we entered the contract. The installation by Elite Electric was outstanding.

We wanted a solar power system sufficient to achieve zero net energy for our house and two cars, with a battery to maximize self-consumption. The SunPower system with 20 AC panels plus one Tesla Powerwall is meeting that goal! The system has operated flawlessly for the eight months since installation.

We went solar to save on power bills and we've been very satisfied with that decision. We had SunPower in our last house and then in this house for two years now. They coordinated everything for the install here and the enrollment process was great. Their customer service has been good, although there was one time that I requested them to call me back, and they didn't. Still, I'm happy because they covered our inverter under warranty as it was failing a little bit. They got a guy out here to diagnose then fix it. He just came out today and replaced the inverter. I would recommend SunPower. They're a good quality company.

My family and I decided to add a solar system to our home when we started to see an increase in our cost in power. The Sunpower product seemed to be the only logical choice due to the lack of roof area we have and the number of trees over our house. The crew that did the install was very efficient and they said a lot of that had to do with the way the system is engineered. The system is a complete system designed by SunPower and that really made me excited as a consumer, as I would see manufacturers pointing fingers if something went wrong. We are looking forward to many years of power production from our Sunpower Solar system.

I wanted to pre-purchase most of my electricity for the next 20+ years. Given the history of rate increases, this made economic sense to us; especially when factoring in the tax credit. It's an added bonus that this is a good thing for our environment, but largely this was an economic decision.

Solar penciled out for me as far as cost was concerned. I had problems at the time with the installer, Slingshot Power and Solar, which was listed as an Elite installer. When I contacted SunPower, they immediately took care of everything by bringing in a new installer who fixed everything. This convinced me that SunPower is the only way to go and I have recommended SunPower to friends and neighbors, which resulted in two new installations with SunPower Panels. My system is working perfectly now and I continue to highly recommend SunPower to anyone who is interested in Solar. Thank you, keep up the good work.

I recently purchased a house and going solar seemed like a good idea. I know somebody who was working out of the SunPower San Jose office. I got into the friends and family program. I’m happy I decided to go solar, but not really happy with what I've been experiencing with SunPower. There have been frequent problems with the system. I've had to have service technicians come out about six times in the three years that I've had the system. They haven’t given me all the details as to what’s going on. They replaced the panels about six months ago and they’ve had to replace the inverter twice.

I called the Better Business Bureau and they responded to that complaint. And I was also told by somebody who installs solar panels that the way the system was installed was the problem. The design itself is how they were laid out on my roof at different angles is what comes with the panels. That’s not something that can be fixed just by replacing panels or the inverter.

I also don’t know how to contact SunPower directly. There’s the 1-800 SunPower number that I’ve been using to reach the company to ask for help. But it’s routed to the Philippines and they don’t seem to be set up to take complaints or requests. They’re the people you call when there’s a technical glitch and they’d run some tests and send somebody else to take a look at it. The only time I heard directly from somebody here in the States, from SunPower, was when I filed that complaint. I would like SunPower to contact me and resolve the larger issue on how the panels are arrayed.

I went solar in 2014 to save money. I went through Amergy solar who sold me SunPower's equipment. Audrey my salesperson completely lied to me. I was told different savings in person from what the contract stated. I was also told that if I had any animal problems with nesting under panels you guys would come out and trim trees and install guards around panels. I now have that problem and SunPower is telling me that's on me now. I have had a leak problem on roof since after installation that I have complained about and ended up paying out of pocket for repairs.

It seems the system goes down on the most productive months of sun and takes SunPower forever to come out and service. When I call I get an outta country person to talk to and I ask for supervisor and told have to wait 3 to 5 days for one. On my last complaint I waited two weeks called again finally spoke to a supervisor who had no interest in helping me. I'm sorry I didn't get a lawyer to go over contract but SunPower should have some responsibility here with their sub contacts and what they tell and sell to customers. I am a blue collar city worker who got a major screwing here with this contract. It's not right what went on here and expect help from SunPower with this being you guys are the parent company here.

I work at a University and we were using SunPower's commercial services. They seemed trustworthy. When I was looking at solar, there were issues like tree shading and availability of power conduits and SunPower was able to come up with a solution better than the other companies. I'm 100% satisfied going solar but there are things that could have been done better. The process of negotiating the rate was kinda like buying a used car. There was like a lot more negotiation than I thought was necessary. I thought it was just kind of a fixed price thing, but it seemed like it was more like a negotiation with the salesperson saying he had to call his boss.

Also, I'm using more power than I'm producing from solar, so I should have gotten a bigger system and the interface could be better online. It's not very user-friendly, like when I wanna see how much power I would be using for the year and how much they're contracted to provide for me, it's not super clear. It would be nice if it combines what power I'm using from the power company versus what power I'm using from the solar because I have to pay for whatever power I use in excess of my solar. Then, once in a while, the router or some electronic component becomes disconnected. Sometimes it happens, and then, I have to kind of troubleshoot it and it's a little bit tricky. I've called customer service before about it. Other than those, it's a good deal.

This is the second time I have had to have service with our 36 panel system. Local installer is required to get SunPower's approval prior to working on system. Customer must initiate call and get case number. SunPower's Customer service is located in the Philippines. Expect to wait on hold multiple times while getting Level 1 assistance (30+ minutes). No way to avoid Level 1 even with case number. Only then are you transferred to tech support (in spite of choosing that choice originally on their automated system). Then tech support will issue a case number only to be told that their data group must research to see what the problem is.

They are to call back in 3-5 days or issue a repair request with the local installer. When that does not happen (which it has not), in spite of now having a case number, the timing and process on the phone will essentially start all over again beginning at Level 1. I provided information with data as well as which part is currently involved. None of this information was taken down during the call. Costing us $200+/mo. in electric bills while waiting for their data group to respond. Previous bills have not been larger than $15/mo. Still waiting for service to be approved.

The SunPower app makes it really easy to see how much energy you are collecting! My electric bills for this home are 1/3 of what they were for the small condo I lived in previously. Amazing! That was until the panels failed. After several weeks of going between SunPower and their repair partner and two failed attempts to fix my original system, SunPower authorized a full warranty replacement. I could not be happier with the end result. The new system is once again collecting significant amounts of solar energy. My electric bills are going back down and aligning to where they were before the failure! I definitely recommend SunPower as a company that stands behind their product.

Our solar system was installed approximately 5 years ago. It has performed satisfactorily --except for communication with the converter. Technicians had repaired that several times --and their work finally had been successful until one month ago, early October. Since then I called Sunpower, November 5, was told they contacted Sunpower maintenance November 8 (that took 3 days!), then told that I should expect a call from maintenance in 7-10 more business days, at which time I expect we can arrange a service appointment.

This is an awful long time to wait to receive a simple courtesy call only then setting a maintenance appointment sometime in the unidentified future. Meanwhile, we have no service for how long--2-3-4 weeks? This is unacceptable. We paid more than $20000 for our system -- and Sunpower cannot even return a call only to schedule a maintenance appointment within a reasonable couple days. We intend to install a solar system at our office. We'll use a different provider.

We have had our system running into it's 3rd year. The first 2 years was ok, but then when one of the inverters broke down it's when cracks started to show with SunPower solar. It took a looong time for them to get back to us after reporting it with them and for the contractor to get back to us, 3 weeks for be exact. Right into the hot months of the CA heat. Needless to say our Edison bill went through the roof with little end in sight. Took a LOT of calling and nagging for them to finally set up an appointment which would take another 3 weeks of a system that was in limbo.

Also, how cheap can you guys be by importing the phone call services overseas to the poor Filipino workers who have to put up with our performance-based population? I bet they get paid peanuts whilst your executives raking in the $$$? If you fail to make your payments on a faulty system they can and will take you (Customer) to court with LITTLE to NO Consequences on their shoulders. They will give you the runaround for as long as possible. We're fighting to get any form of reimbursement from them, it may take 6 months before we even get anything, if anything.

Save yourselves the hassle folks, go elsewhere and make sure the company you go with offers you a solid reimbursement program should your system go down. Go to a company who cares about you and their products long after your system has been installed. It a ** nightmare working with these people (if you can call them that).

In May of 2018 we noticed a red light on the monitoring System and called SunPower and spent an hour waiting on hold and then resetting the PVS5X and waiting 5 minutes each time to see if they could see my system. After an hour of resetting and waiting while he went away, he finally told me to call the installer.

I called Westhaven Solar who came out to hook their computer up to the PV5S monitor box. They spent 2 hours restarting the system and calling into SunPower for advice. They never were able to access the equipment and had to leave as they could not tell which micro-inverters had a problem. About 2 months later, yup 2 months they called and said 2 micro-inverters were out and they had to get permission from SunPower to get them replaced.

The crew showed up about a month later (Now August) without the right equipment and staff to do the replacement and had to come back a week later. After 2 hours replacing 2 inverters, they only brought 1 ladder, and my roof is steep, they replaced them. Once again they hooked their computer up to the PV5S and could not connect, they called SunPower and they had them shut off the monitor at least 3 times during the next hour and a half. They were never able access the equipment and were not able to commission the 2 new micro-inverters.

I called Westhaven, who called SunPower and SunPower told them they could not access my system, so they had me remove in "plug in" communications box which I did. I called Westhaven and they finally told me that they were at a point where only SunPower could either replace the PVS5X Box or send someone to verify the box was not operating properly. They told me they had a call in to SunPower to check it out...

So we started calling Sunpower. October 24th, 2018 talked to Ralph who said SunPower would bring in a 3rd party to check it out. Ralph said they use Sun Systems and that we should know within 24 hours. On October 25th, 2018 (24 hours later) we talked to Joanna who said she would send an email to Sun Systems to expedite the process. October 29th, 2018 Red light on PV5S unit, called SunPower. They made us cycle the box off for 5 minutes. Then the person proceeded to tell us that someone came out and fixed the problem. Unless they are into breaking and entering they had no access to the PVS5X box in my garage. We told the person that 24th was the day you said you would send a 3rd party person out... They also said that they would have to replace all the microinverters?

November 5th, 2018 call I was told that Sun Systems was instructed by SunPower to come out and replace all the micro inverters, but was waiting for a work order. November 7th, 2018 call Sunpower said they instructed Sun Systems to do the work but had not heard back from them. We call Andrew at Sun Systems who said SunPower sent an order to replace the inverters, then a 2nd email canceling the order, and to make it more confusing sent an new email authorizing the repair without a work order. Andrew made a request that SunPower contact us within 24-48 hours.

November 8th, 2018 Called and talked to Bianca. We asked why they had to replace all the micro-inverters when 2 had been done but the monitoring system has not been working and there was no way to commission the 2 from months ago. She told us that there was only an order for 2 micro-inverters. So I tell her those were replaced in September. It seems every conversation, work order, and conversation was lost...

November 9th, 2018 talked to Randel who was not able get the proper info and passed me Ralph in Technical support who said they don't trust the installers and are ordering monitoring all new microinverters. And should be in no later than November 23rd. They said they were ordered on Nov 8th. They were supposedly ordered on October 24th which would have been the 2 weeks they just quoted me again. So now I still feel that they are just telling me this to get me off the phone. I am seriously thinking about taking them to court.

We’ve had our SunPower system for a little bit over a year now and we are super pleased with it! We had recently bought a new house which had air conditioning, a hot tub and a pool. Though we were super excited about all these new features, we also were very aware that we would be using a lot more energy and it would increase our PG&E bills. Having solar made our summer much more enjoyable because we could relax and enjoy! Thanks Sun Power!

SunPower was one of the companies that was highly recommended. We liked the amount of money that it could save over time. Because of the size of the house my energy bills were pretty high. It seemed to be good in the beginning, but at this point, it doesn’t seem to. It’s like you’ve reaped the benefits in the beginning and now it’s all just kind of the way it is. It's just as expensive as it was before.

I contacted customer service because there was a problem with our system. It was pretty good from the point that they helped me fix that because we had to reboot the system. And I said, “Well, could that have been the problem, the reason why my true-up at the end of the year was so high? Every year it seems to go up $1,000 more. What’s that? How is this happening? Maybe the system wasn’t running right?” And of course, they said they were doing their research and of course, I expected the answer to be that it’s not the system’s fault, and in fact, it wasn't. Nobody came out, nobody walked it, nobody checked it, nobody has done anything. They did whatever test they ran from wherever they were at and that was sufficient.

Every solar company told me, “Oh, we can add more solar panels. You shouldn’t be paying anything. There should be no screw up.” I talked to PG&E and they didn’t seem to side with any of the solar companies. They said, “I guess you could add more panels if you wanted to, but it won’t make a difference,” so, I never added more panels or decreased panels. I have kept it the same and the rates kept going up.

PGE bill was extremely expensive. Called and spoke with the local SunPower dealer (Sun Solar) in Bakersfield. They had a sales representative come out to my house and educated me about solar. The sales representative was very professional and very informative. After researching all the products on the market it was an easy decision to go solar with the best manufacturer installed by the best solar company (Sun Solar). That decision has been by far the best choice I have made for my house. I continue to save around $1500 a year because of this. Great job to the Sun Solar Crew.

I thought getting solar energy services was the right thing to do. It was for environmental reasons and ultimately, in the long term, it could save money. We’ve had some bumps along the way, but now, I’m satisfied. Enrolling with them was straightforward. It was a complex process just because of permits and state regs, but they did everything and just told me the paper I have to sign. So, it was a smooth process. My interaction with the customer service team was positive, even during the appointment.

I had some technical issues. We upgraded the array. We added another five panels and after that, we had intermittent generation which took about six or eight months to fix, and resulted in months where I went without any generation. We got an arc fault detected on the inverter. I called their support team and they were saying it was sporadic. I was having to reset the inverter almost every day. It would seem to stabilize and then I would forget about it. Then I’d go look again and realize I haven’t been generating any power for months. It took an inordinate amount of time to fix the problem. So, it finally got escalated to the response guy who talked to me about the challenge. They sent their partner out a couple of times who eventually found a badly made connector which had actually been causing an arc. He remade all the connectors and from then it was fine.

The monitoring system should send an alert rather than relying on the consumer having to log in every day which is what I do. I have an app on my phone, but I shouldn’t need to login to check generation. I would expect that they’re monitoring the system. They ought to be able to send an alert to the user to say, “Hey, your array has gone out,” and then you can deal with it. Rather than doing as I did which I’d be traveling and whenever I traveled, the day I left home was the day that the thing would fail. And that would happen two or three times that way. SunPower wrote me a check for about half of the power that I didn’t generate, that I had to buy then from PG&E. It was a bit of a painful process. But in the end, they came through and made it good. So far, I’m very happy with what it’s doing and that they’re generating power. I would recommend them.

I decided I wanted solar and did my research and found that I wanted SunPower solar. I called, they came out to my new house that was 4 times as big and 4 states away from my previous home. They decided 30 panels would cover my electrical needs, I bit off because they are the experts. My lease came out to $2400 a year, after 1 year though I get a bill from electric company saying I owe them $1000 more. Now my problem is I called SunPower to discuss this, I told them, "Hey I understand it's not exact science on how to determine how many panels I should need, so owing a little is fine but you guys undersold me by 30%. That's a pretty big margin." My response was my system size was determined by my past usage. I said, "You never ask me for past electric Bills because it was 4 states over and my house was 4 times smaller."

Then I was told that I used too much electricity and I should cut back. I said, "Who are you to tell me how much I can and can't use." I offered to pay for more panels to be added to my lease and they said no. They said they are only going to honor what was promised in the lease. I said, "What about the promise SunPower promised me in building a system to cover my electric needs," they told me goodbye. I would and will not ever recommend SunPower to anyone even someone I hate. I would have never went through them if I knew that their mistake of undersizing my system without compromising on a solution was going to happen. But that knowledge is on whoever is reading this and I think you will be treated better and spend your hard earned money elsewhere and feel better about it.

When that time came it proved to be exasperating for us, our agent and the buyer. To add to the difficulty in executing the transfer, SunPower deducted an additional month's payment despite collecting two months lease payments at close of escrow. When this was brought to their attention they assured us that they would promptly refund the additional payment. Now, nearly 2 months post closing, nothing has been received. Despite repetitive assurances of prompt refund nothing. They are quick to take your money, and it’s pulling eye teeth to get them to correct their error. Buyer beware.

Semper Solaris (SS) told me I could call them for any problems. In July of this year I thought my production was down and asked to look into it and never heard back. On Oct 8, I noted my production was down ABOUT 40%! Again contacted SS asking for them to look into it. No response. On Oct 12 I tried a third time and this time SS copied me on emails they sent that day to SUNPOWER (SP) about my problem. AND I sent 3 separate emails to SP MYSELF - one to customer support, one to technical support and one to Jocelyn ** based on info Semper Solaris provided. NOT ONE of those emails was ever acknowledged!

So THEN I did an internet search and found that in about the last 2 to 3 months - (basically involving August/Sept/Oct) the number of complaints and bad ratings at the Better Business Bureau, consumeraffairs.com, and even here on Yelp had gone WAY UP. And my personal experience has since echoed many of these complaints. On Oct 16 I called SUNPOWER directly AND my phone shows the call lasted over 1 hour and 14 minutes with most of that ON HOLD - in fact, although I was placed on hold multiple times, one stretch LASTED 37 minutes! I was told they had replied to my emails but used an incorrect email address? Gross incompetence or lie? Email clients AUTOMATICALLY enter the return address as we all know!

And I was still given the run-around about when my system would be repaired. First they were going to have to replace equipment so they could MONITOR my system for a while to judge the problem. I complained to Semper Solaris (SS) who I was under the belief would be servicing my system since THEY HAD INSTALLED IT, and was told they were no longer ALLOWED to service the equipment and had been warned that doing so would VOID my 25 year warranty! AND they were getting swamped with complaints about SUNPOWER for who they are installers - how about that!?

I believe strongly that this likely represents SUNPOWER RUNNING INTO AN UNEXPECTED WIDESPREAD EQUIPMENT PROBLEM WITH THEIR OWN PRODUCT AND NOT WANTING TO PAY Semper Solaris to help with the repairs - AND AT MY EXPENSE in that until it is repaired, I am wasting money going to SDGE in having to use power from the grid instead of my OWN solar power.

AND GET THIS - I have learned as a home and business owner over 35 years that occasionally it is best to 'go to the top'. In the maybe 5 times I have done that over 3 decades, involving an executive office has ALWAYS gotten at a minimum a polite/caring sounding acknowledgment. I emailed the office of Tom Werner CEO ** and his office did NOT EVEN HAVE ENOUGH CLASS TO RESPOND! So you CANNOT count on product reliability NOR service from this company. It is NOW Oct 22 and I've been given no further information about repair to my system - I'll continue to update this if/when repair happens.

The system worked as advertised for the first 4 years, but then we had a couple of months of lower than expected production from the 18 solar panels, and it took over three weeks for a technician to arrive, and troubleshoot the problem. He was only interested in checking the monitoring system, and could not figure out why the system was underperforming. Customers need to understand what happens when their equipment needs support and maintenance. The customer service number always seems to have unusually high call volume. It took 10 business days for a scheduler to contact me about scheduling a site visit. It took another week to get someone to show up. Then the technician could only troubleshoot the monitoring system, and ignored the original issue of higher than expected electric bills.

SunPower was a good option at the time and so I had them on my old house 6 years ago. Enrolling with them was extremely easy and having solar energy services has been great. So far, it is a very seamless effort. I got a smaller unit than I should've made, but it was my fault. Overall, SunPower is a good way to go.

Our sales rep was very knowledgeable and worked to make sure we would get the most coverage for our difficult two-story, cut-up roof. He didn’t pressure us but gave us the information so that we could decide whether or not we wanted solar. We were not familiar with the ins and outs of solar so this was all new to us. We’ve had the panels for one year now and our true up bill was almost $0 and we got our annual report being on a lease and our system overperformed the expectations by almost 1,000 kWh! And we haven’t even had them cleaned yet!! We were very pleased!

The only complaint is that our sales rep didn’t dig deeper into our personal situation to find out if a purchase vs a lease would have a better fit for us and I didn’t understand enough about how solar works and the tax credit at the time to know. Looking back I think the purchase would have been a better option for us so that’s a little disappointing but I know we’re still saving money overall and have the best producing panels on our roof with the best local master dealer in Quality Home Services (QHS) so we are grateful!

Sun Power provided an agreeable remedy. The company was aware of a known issue with their product. They replaced faulty panels and related modules, they compensated me for the time that my system was off-line and not producing due to the system failure.

    Original Review: Oct. 6, 2018

Updated on 11/05/2018: My system was offline (NOT PRODUCING ENERGY) all of April, most of August and September, all of October and November (to date). According to a company representative, there is a known flaw in the SunPower E20 solar panels and related components used in many consumer solar energy systems. Also, according to the company representative, all of my solar panels will need to be replaced, supposedly the new panels will be more reliable and cause fewer system failures.

Because of the system failure, my PG&E Solar True-Up will increase significantly. My last communication with a SunPower Executive Service Specialist was 10/19/2018. Since then I have received no replies to any of my voice or electronic mail messages. "SunPower warrants that for 25 years... its PV Modules shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal application, installation, use and service conditions..." (SunPower Limited Warranty). THINK TWICE OR THRICE REGARDING DOING BUSINESS WITH SunPower!

Original Review: I purchased my SunPower residential solar energy system in 2013, and it was installed in 2014. This year (2018), my system was all of April due to "Grid Failure." After an extended waiting period, a service technician came to my residence (in early May), repaired my system and restored it to energy producing/online status. My system went offline again for most of August and September due to an "Electrical Arc Failure." Once again after an extended waiting period, a service technician came to my residence (in late September), troubleshooted my system and restored it to energy producing/online status. Approximately 30 minutes after the service technician departed my residence, the "Electrical Arc Failure" returned and my system went back offline.

Repeated calls to customer service (in the Philippines) and site visits have not produced a successful resolution. After the last service technician visit, I called customer service and spoke to "Maureen." She told me I would have to wait 3 to 5 business days for the site review report to be received and reviewed. I waited 10 business days and called customer service again (October 5th, 2018). After an extended time "waiting on hold," I spoke with "Van" who told me they were still waiting for the site report to be reviewed. She could not give me a date for another site visit, but said she would move my help ticket to expedite/rush status.

When my solar energy system is online it generates sufficient power to eliminate my electrical service utility bill. However, it is still offline and unable to generate or produce any solar energy power (which is its primary purpose). I have become most dissatisfied with SunPower's very poor customer service, with the extended wait times (multiple weeks) for service technician visits and with SunPower's inability or unwillingness to restore my system to energy producing/online status.

We did a lot of research and got several bids before we purchased our Sunpower system in 2011. We were able to quickly decide on Sunpower because the Asian solar companies were unstable, and failing frequently, and Sunpower was American and had been in business for many years and by almost every measurement, produced a superior product. Once we decided on Sunpower, we got estimates from two Sunpower installers and one other, and decided between the two Sunpower installers it was a tossup, and so flipped a coin.

We had the system installed in early 2011. The first month was not as good as it should have been so we called our installer. They discovered they had somehow connected only half the system, and were able to fix it immediately. Since then the system has performed flawlessly and still produces as much power as it did the first month. The provided application makes it easy to verify the system is working, and provides tons of statistics. On any given day the system will produce to its max, if weather permits. Updated on 04/30/2024: Beware of Sunpower reneging on their warranties. We purchased a Sunpower system that was installed in the fall of 2016. We chose Sunpower because of their apparently superior warranties and the length of time they have been in business. Included in our contract was a 25 Year Limited Product and Power Warranty. The Power Warranty was for minimum 95% in the first 5 years, declining by no more than 0.4% per year for the following 20 years, so the power output in the final 25th year will be at least 87%. During the 7 years that our system has been operating, it has failed to make these power numbers for 4 of the 7 years. This was due to microinverters failing and installation issues. SunPower did make the necessary repairs. When we contacted Sunpower in 2021 for compensation for the low power production, we were told that we did not have a Power Warranty.

We then sent Sunpower a copy of our contract proving them wrong. After much haggling Sunpower did send us monetary compensation. Now we come to 2023 when our power production fell to 86.71% when it should have been a minimum of 94.2%. Again a product problem which Sunpower did fix. We contacted Sunpower again regarding compensation for the loss of power, and provided again for their reference our 25 Year Limited Product and Power Warranty. Once more we are getting the run around concerning the Power Warranty. Despite receiving compensation before, Sunpower claims they are now under no obligation to do so. Here is Sunpower’s current reply concerning their warranty:

“Sunpower's Product warranty does not include a Production Guarantee nor does include compensation for loss of energy production. Please refer to the contract and the warranty document for your reference. SunPower is fulfilling its contractual obligations with the repair of your system and has no obligation to continue to compensate you for any lost production.”

It is clear to us that Sunpower is violating their contract with us. Sunpower includes in their contract minimum power numbers for 25 years, but then when the system falls short they do their best to renege.

Updated on 05/17/2021: Do not do business with SunPower. Their crews are incompetent and they do not honor their warranty. SunPower Direct installed our panels in November 2016. A few months later in January we noticed roof leaks at the points where the panels were attached. After much negotiations, SunPower agreed to pay an independent roofer to fix the roof. This was finally accomplished in October 2017. For the roof repairs in October 2017, SunPower had to remove and then replace the panels.

In March 2018 we noticed error messages on the monitoring panel in our garage. We contacted SunPower who then determined that 2 panels had not had their cables connected when they were reinstalled in October 2017. In June of 2018 we got data reporting problems on the SunPower application installed on our phones. We contacted SunPower. They determined that the micro-inverters on 2 of the panels had gone bad. On both on these occasions, unconnected panels and bad micro-inverters, it was on us to notice there was an issue and report it to SunPower. When we bought the system back in 2016, we were told that SunPower would be monitoring our system, alert us if there was a problem and send service out. Obviously they do not actually do that.

SunPower then replaced all the micro-inverters in August 2018. After that we inspected the roof for any broken tiles and discovered footprints all over the panels. According to SunPower “We do not recommend that anyone walk on the panels because it can damage the cells, which would damage performance”. So why did their crew walk on the panels which are located in the middle of the roof with ample space to work around them? We contacted SunPower and sent them photos to get on file a potential problem. We then took a wait and see attitude to see if there would be a decrease in production since looking for the potential micro cracks caused by walking is difficult.

So now the results: in 2017 before the panels were walked on, they produced 11,040 kWh which was 101% of the promised production of 10,961 kWh. However in 2019 they produced only 10,130 kWh dropping to 92.4%. In 2020 they produced 10,218 kWh which is 93.2%. The warranty in our contract states that in the first 5 years production shall not drop below 95% of the original promised production. So there is a good likelihood that our panels were damaged when they were walked on, and we have learned that micro-cracks worsen over time.

We contacted SunPower on April 12, 2021 to see about the warranty. Their first reply was that their technical team had determined that we should only expect 10,200 kWh from our system and questioned our “supposed” promised production of 10,961 kWh. So we emailed them what SunPower had sent us in 2016 with the 10,961 kWh. Apparently now they have accepted the 10,961 kWh number. So next SunPower claimed the drop in production is due to “soiling”, so not their problem. However they have never asked if we washed the panels which we periodically do.

Incidentally back in 2016 the SunPower rep had assured us that dirt on the panels would not harm production. Also in their warranty there is no mention about cleaning panels. We clean them anyway. SunPower also in their email on “soiling” advised us to keep nearby trees and hedges trimmed. If SunPower had asked, or looked at our property on Google Earth, they would have seen that nothing shades our panels. So it is obvious that SunPower is trying everything they can to get out of their 95% first 5 year production warranty. Bottom line - do not use this company. Their crews are incompetent and they do not honor their warranty.

Original Review: SunPower workmanship gets a “F” grade, AGAIN. Recently SunPower came out to replace all the microinverters that were failing one by one – our system is less than 2 years old. After they completed the work, we inspected the roof for damage (SunPower has damaged our roof in the past). We were shocked to discover footprints all over our 21 panels – 48 footprints to be specific! The way the panels are laid out on our roof, there was no need to ever walk on them.

Walking on panels can cause microcracks in the solar cells, reducing panel performance, which will continue to worsen over time. The microcrack problem is a known issue that is even documented on SunPower websites and SunPower Facebook pages. Here is a quote from SunPower “We do not recommend that anyone walk on the panels because it can damage the cells, which would damage performance”.

After discovering our panels had been thoroughly walked on by the SunPower crew, we called both the SunPower corporate and SunPower regional offices a week ago. However we were only able to leave voicemails since no one answers the phone at either location. No one has returned our calls. Our previous experiences with SunPower: Initial installation – damage to the roof and the roof leaked at the panel mounting brackets. SunPower did then come and remove the panels while the roof was fixed, and then SunPower reinstalled the panels.

Reinstallation of panels – SunPower failed to connect 2 of the 21 panels. On our smartphone SunPower application, we kept getting error messages concerning slow data reporting. We kept contacting SunPower about it. After FIVE months SunPower figured out that 2 panels were not reporting, not connected, and therefore producing no power for 5 months.

Data reporting issues resume – Again we noticed this on our smartphone application and informed SunPower. Eventually they diagnosed that the microinverters were failing, which was causing production loss. 1 1/2 months after we notified SunPower of the issue, they replaced all the microinverters and walked all over the panels. Apparently diagnosing microcracks on installed panels is not a simple thing, and production loss from microcracks will be small at first, but increase over time. So far since SunPower walked on our panels, production on our panels is down 6% over the previous year time period. While it is possible that this weather related, we think it is more probable that this is from 48 footprints of damage.

Our system was installed in 2009. At the time we received papers stating we had a 25 year warranty. It was not possible to reach SunPower by phone, sometimes I couldn’t even get to voice mail and when I did, no one ever called me back. I tried sending an email, that didn’t work either. I finally found a company, on my own, who said they did Sunpower warranty work, but I had to pay a $250 “roll fee”. I didn’t mind, as I thought everything else would be covered and considering the age of my system, it would be good to have a professional look it all over after so many years.

Our problem was that we didn’t feel our system was producing the way it should. The technician said it was working. He said that even though my inverter cannot be read anymore and I have a warranty, Sunpower isn’t going to replace old components. So how is that a 25 year warranty? And when I asked the technician to hook up the Sunpower monitoring system which we had unplugged a while ago, he said the system is too old, and won’t work anymore. So how is this a 25 year warranty? So emphatically NO I do not recommend Sunpower to people, and in fact I recommend against you to people who ask.

Updated on 10/03/2018: I gave a review explaining the lack of Customer Service for old time owners. They sent a response after a few weeks to me, which required me to log in, or try to set up an account. So I tried. It still didn’t work. I would NOT ever recommend this company as there is absolutely NO Customer Service available, nor is there any warranty work available. The 20-25 warranty is totally worthless.

We have had our solar panels since fall 2010, and have had no problems with them at all. Our electric bill is at the base rate (about $16) from April, when we start making as much power as we use, through December, when we use up the accumulated KWH credits. True, we make no power when the panels are covered with snow, but that is made up for by the fact that we have to do little maintenance on a regular basis. This summer, for the first time, I did have to treat the roof under the panels because moss was starting to grow. The treatment was easy and took about an hour. I'll probably need to do it yearly. It is fun knowing that we are catching free energy from the sun!

I love SunPower's industry leading solar panel power density. After 8 years, they are still producing more energy per square foot than competitor's new panels. I love SunPower's company health/stability. My installer The Solar Company went out of business, but SunPower is here to stay. I love SunPower's customer service. Their web and app monitoring service presents information well, is accessible, and updated without superfluous stylistic changes. I love the super-low maintenance needs of SunPower installation bundles. The panels and inverter are robust and trouble-free. There was a data-logger web interface piece of equipment that was unreliable, so they replaced it, then replaced it again with a new robust design that has also proven trouble-free, all without additional cost to me.

I had been aware of many benefits to solar: a. environmental, b. personal financial, c. helping new technologies grow, d. distributed energy sources (my roof!) making the regional power grid much more stable and resilient. e. the shade from my solar panels keep the house cooler during hot summers. I was surprised though that my relationship with the sun and the planet deepened, sweetened. I heartily recommend you go solar with SunPower. Why wait? Sure prices might go down slightly, but why delay good things? Do it now!

Solar energy service was a thing that came out during the Obama administration where they were getting tremendous kickbacks for solar power and this turned out to be an incredible deal so I jumped at it and I had no regrets about going solar. The enrollment process with SunPower was seamless. They tested and certified the system without me being here, which I thought was great. I never used to pay anything on my bill for the past couple of years other than the administration fee of $8 or so a month for the electrical company. But now, summer is not even over and I got a hundred dollars plus bill on my electricity. I hope somebody over there is not asleep in monitoring my panels and make sure I haven’t lost a panel because this is the second year in the row that I’ve paid a couple of months on my electrical bill and it’s over a $100.

They dismissed it last year and said that it must’ve been the cloudy weather for a couple of months but I’m hearing that other people have had some panel problems like a panel is out. Somebody needs to look at my ray out there and they need to give me some empirical evidence that they have checked my ray and made sure each of my panels is operating correctly. I would like to see something in terms of what diagnostics have been run on my ray, not just give me an overall, “Okay, it put out so many kilowatts.” I’ve seen that degrade but that doesn’t tell me if they had checked the system or the panels to see if they are all functioning correctly. I’m getting reports every month by SunPower showing how many carbon or credits I’ve saved by going solar but it’s useless to me. I’m interested in keeping the status quo.

We have rental properties and we acquired a couple of them totally unknowing that they were in a gas well. So, all of a sudden, we started getting royalties. I turned the money that we unexpectedly got into solar panels. At the community gathering of a breakfast club, Art spoke, and when I was ready I contacted him and SunPower was what he used. I like SunPower. So far, we're pleased with their product which has excellent quality and their service which is very good. It's very simple to get a hold of them if I have any issue. When there was a glitch at one point with the installation, Renovis, the company that did the installation, immediately took care of it. Then, when one of the three inverters failed, an upgrade was done and all three units were replaced. Since then, we've only had one incident. The equipment was repaired the equipment and it is still hanging on.

Those who have SunPower have got bragging rights. They should be really proud that their solar energy system is so simple. When they get their electric bill and they only pay the connectivity fee if they’re not on batteries, then that's a great day. Furthermore, it makes them pleased that they're doing the right thing. At this point, I'm absolutely satisfied with my decision to go solar and I wouldn’t do it any other way. I've tried to do everything I possibly could to save this planet. It’s a losing battle but I’m doing my part and any little bit we can do helps. I would never turn back on my decision to go with SunPower.

A neighbor friend had SunPower work on their house and told us about them. The deal was that if we got SunPower's solar energy system, then he would get a kickback, so our going with SunPower was pushed a bit. We were thrilled with the solar energy system overall, although we weren’t exactly thrilled with the company. We got solar energy and that was what we wanted.

Enrolling with SunPower was easy. The rep came out here and took care of everything. Everything was filled out and done in one shot. But the installers that came out didn’t clean up. It was so windy out here that if you opened up a plastic bag, it would go flying. So, we were cleaning up this property for months afterwards because the little bolt bags and stuff were everywhere when they could have put these away since we had a dumpster there. Also, we asked them to lock the gate, but they didn’t, so we had to chase the dog down. Although we got along well with the the workers, they were negligent with silly stuff like that and we were always having to tell them to keep the gate shut and pick up their stuff.

Our solar energy system has been live for three years now. Our energy bill is $200 every year. When the neighbors around are paying up to $900 a month for that stuff, we feel really blessed. We’re in an area where the companies are putting up as many turbines and solar energy systems as they can get out here and when they come out we can always go to the meetings and stick our tongues out and say that we don’t need them and we can still save on our energy even if we don’t have battery capacity. I heard that a lot of people had better experiences with SunPower, but when we recommended them to another person and she had the solar energy system installed, we never got the free panel for that referral. This issue fell through the cracks and we just let it go and didn't deal with it since we were all working at the time, although my husband called them a few times and left a message on their answering machine.

Turns out they don't even make any type of storage cell for the system we have!!! So, our panels create a certain amount of energy and if our home doesn't use that energy during the day (time of production) it is sent to the grid and we then have to pay to get it back. So unless the sun is shining you are paying for electricity just like you normally would be. If you are even considering getting panels through this company make sure that you stress the importance of a storage battery so you avoid overpaying. Now I'm in a 20 year contract paying $100+ a month on top of whatever my electric bill is for powering my home through the night. Absolutely horrible!

I'm an engineer and I've always been passionate about ecology. There was an Eco Fair given at the church and I heard about SunPower there. There were two things that sold me on SunPower originally. One reason was that they're American made and the second was that they had the highest efficiency at the time. Enrolling with SunPower was difficult and this had to do with SRECs. The state of New Jersey and some other states have a program where you can get a $100, $200 or whatever the going rate is, when you generate a megawatt of power. It's almost traded on the stock market with SRECs and they were worth $600 originally. The contractor wanted me to do this through them so that they would make a profit, and it was difficult to get them out of the program. But this was really an issue with the SunPower approved installer rather than SunPower itself.

SunPower's hardware is off the charts and it's still state-of-the-art even though it's 10 years old. One cell of one panel is not working but everything else seems to be working fine and I'm generating approximately the same amount of power. Customer service could use some amount of work though. So when I purchased the system, Seabright Solar stated I would receive a check from Edison for over production, well their salesman wasn't too bright and under quoted the amount of panels needed, now I pay an additional $1000yr to Edison, and Sunpower equipment is junk as the inverter went out, and now I'm still responsible paying the monthly lease payment of $146? These two companies are a joke and if I could do it over again I would not do business with either one. Their solution was, "We can put up additional panels with another inverter" so now I would have two separate systems on my roof? So in the future I can have two lease payments, with faulty equipment still having to pay leases with no production? Thanks?

Otherwise they will charge the old lady for the whole system and I thought then is fine I could use it but now I'm paying 130 for panels and 180 in summer time for electricity which they are very unprofessional. They should check my use of electricity then to design another system which fits my house. And now I want to cancel the contract because they didn't keep their promises as when they offered and now they just sending me to different departments and make me wait and no result. We have called several times and the customer service is horrible. They say, "The manager will give you a callback" and needless to say we’re still waiting for a response. They sent us a bill expecting us to pay for something that doesn’t work. We’re very disappointed. Our electric bill is also very high due to their error. I would never recommend SunPower to anyone because they don’t stand up to what they say they offer.

In the summertime, my electric bill with Edison was 400 bucks a month. I'll be 80 years old in March and I'm on fixed income. I can't afford to pay for electricity. I looked for a solar company and SunPower seemed as good as any. Setting up the service with SunPower was good. One crew came out and put up the mounts on Saturday. Then, others came out the following Monday and put up all the panels and inverter.

It was pretty hairy for the first six months SunPower’s billing department which is in Los Angeles. SolarMax, the installers for SunPower, told me that I had a three-month grace period and SunPower wasn’t taking any money from me for that time so I thought that was correct. However, SunPower caught up with me and told me that they didn't have a grace period. I had to make up those payments which was kind of difficult but once it was made up, it was just a steady 156 bucks a month that they took out of my bank account. That was not bad compared to what I was having to pay Edison.

I've had the system up and running for six years. I'm leasing this because I'm so old, and leasing would be preferable to purchasing. The payments would have been the same either way. The lease is 20 years, and then at the end of the lease, I can negotiate for another five years or buy it. If I tell them to take it off my roof, they will probably leave it here because it will be obsolete in 20 years and they won't want it. They would have to fix my roof, anyway, after they took it off so, it wouldn't be cost effective for them to remove it.

I usually get a small rebate in May, the anniversary date, from Edison. However, this year, I didn't. My solar panels are probably degrading to the point where it's not quite generating as much as power but in lieu of the rebate from Edison, SunPower sent me a credit card with 80 bucks on it. Also, I was supposed to get a good bonus fee if I got anybody else as a customer for them. I almost got somebody, but they reneged on that deal, so I never got that extra money for a referral.

SunPower has good solar panels because these are 308 watts per panel compared to only 275 watts per panel from a Japanese company. If I was to use those panels, I never would have been able to get enough on my roof to cover the kind of power that I'm producing which is equal with what I'm using. So, the 308 watts per panel are exceptional and they're made in the USA. My solar panels are kinda dirty right now, but when the rain comes, it will wash them off. I'm an old man and I can't get up on the roof and hose them off myself. So, I just leave the dust on them until the rains come. It doesn't take away that much of my electricity, anyway.

Updated on 10/24/2022: I have this system already 5 years and during these years I cannot count how many times this system broke. It's not generating energy. I got it to lower my electricity bill but I'm paying double. I'm paying dwp and solar lease. Before I was paying only my electricity bill. Now this too. Don't buy ever Sunpower. They have the worst solar system and worst customer service. It took 7 months to fix the last malfunctioning. Now again. I have to wait probably year until they fix it. It cost arm and leg. Stay away from sunpower solar company.

Updated on 11/20/2018: This company is total theft. It's been 7 months that my solar is not working, doesn't produce any energy and they don't fix it. I called them multiple times but no one takes action. They charge their monthly lease fee and do nothing. They even had to send me the check for $1300 for underproduction but again I never got that check. Every time I call them they say that. "We sent it," but it's already 2 months that the check didn't arrive. Now my lawyer is preparing court documents to remove the solar because they default under the lease agreement. Don't even think to have business with them.

Original Review: It's already 1 year that I have leased solar panels (monthly $236.11) with SunPower and I'm very disappointed. The company doesn't do anything only collects monthly payments. First, the representative told that if panels have an issue they will fix it, second, if I install 40 panels I will not pay any penny for electricity but later on I got bill from DWP and every time I paid $34 and yesterday I got DWP bill and it was crazy only electricity charge was $950 for 2 months. I called SunPower they said that the system is not generating electricity and they cannot verify how long it's not working. The representative connected me with technical support department but they never answer. I called them 100 times and every time was waiting 15-40 minutes but nobody answers. If anyone knows how can I cancel the contract with them I will be very grateful. It's just a waste of money paying for nothing. Run from that company as far as you can.

We had our SunPower system turned on in March of 2016 and thought everything was going great. Once or twice we had a monitoring interruption that needed attention, but it was fairly easy to fix. In October of 2017 we had an arc failure that disrupted production and it took over a week before the installer first noticed it, and then SunPower noticed it (I was 9 months pregnant at the time and a little busy with my soon-to-be-arriving firstborn). It was almost a month before SunPower finally issued a work order to the installer to come out and fix the issue. We again had a failure part way into March 2018 that continued all through April before SunPower authorized the installer again to come and look at it, and then again we've been offline now since August with the same issue still plaguing the system.

We've had a promise of a 3rd party inspection and review of the installation - but we've had no contact from any such 3rd party identified by SunPower. Similar to other reviews, I never receive a call back from SunPower or any response to the inquiries, and the amount of time it takes to continue to press on them, all while still paying the lease and now having to pay an electric bill on top of it, is well beyond the savings we were seeing in one year. I want to request termination as SunPower is currently in default of the lease, not me, and want the system removed at their cost as they are not maintaining it to produce results - but I cannot even get someone on the phone to start this discussion.

But I've had to call their customer service several times because our solar system wasn't communicating with the online app that I have and we've had a lot of problems with that. Whenever I called, which has happened a couple of times, they usually could give me no solution right at that moment, although the issues were eventually resolved over time. SunPower's service would improve and become better if they would be sensitive to their customers and be a little more communicative, besides the one report on how our system is doing. Nevertheless, I'm very satisfied with our decision to go solar because I enjoy and like it.

Another 2 months this go by and the electric bills and solar bills keep coming. Finally after multiple emails and calls with scripted response that included no real answers we were told that we would be on a payment suppression plan until repaired.

We got an email that the parts were in and someone has been contacted for the repair and we should hear back soon. Still nothing and SunPower keeps billing us. I specifically went with a lease so that I would not have to deal with repairs and now I have an even bigger headache. Please go with someone else. Now, they’ve increased rates though so we are seeing smaller ones trickle in. We have a larger home, two storeys with two AC units, so the AC runs quite a bit in the summer. We were experiencing about $700 a month in bills before but we haven't had to experience that anymore. I've been 100% satisfied. We also had an excellent experience when we went solar. We dealt with Baker Electric and they handled everything. All of their installers were very knowledgeable and friendly. And they did an extremely clean and fast installation job. They used to do it but they've flown in and out with their program of being in touch with the customers.

Sometimes it's like they’ve decided to be in touch and they would do that, which works out fine. But then other times, it's like, “Are you still in business?” We know they are though. They're quite reputable and they're fairly highly regarded in the industry. They are one of the top suppliers but they can do a little bit more to stay in touch with the customer. We went to a fair which had different vendors set up and we contacted this vendor who was out of Surprise, Arizona. And then he came by and he was selling SunPower. At that time, the power companies were pushing going solar and that was the best choice I’ve made in a long time. There was a very good set-up program back then where they supplemented it by 50%. So, my system cost around $50,000 and by the time it was all said and done, I paid a little over $10,000 out of pocket because the power company paid 24,000. And then, I was able to get 30% tax rebate so that gave me another 16,000 back.

I was always pleased with SunPower's customer service and their responses the few times I called them. I’ve only had one problem and that was a couple of years ago when my monitoring system went out. I called SunPower, they sent a technician out and they reinstalled a new monitoring system which didn’t cost me one dime. It was unbelievable. I thought I was gonna have to buy a new system. Again no words from Sunpower when they will be out to change the PV supervisor, I had to call yet again and question them of when they will send someone out to change the PV supervisor, was told that it being ordered. 3 weeks later, Aug. 13, 2018, the Tech finally came out to replaced the PV supervisor and were told system will be reporting in 3-5 days.

Again 2 weeks had passed and again I called the support line 3 time waited on hold for almost 1 hr. each time and was dropped and had to call back and waited again. Finally, got a hold of support and again were told that the PV supervisor is not communicating??? REALLY? I had told her that is not PV supervisor because they just changed it and that is the Micro-Inverter is the problems not the PV supervisor. I had my SunPower Solar lease installed in July of 2015. Since then my solar system has stopped working 7 times. It has spent more than 10% of the time in a nonproducing state. This latest time has been the most frustrating. It seems like it is a battle to even get someone to come and look at the issue. When I do get a hold of someone via the phone after at least a 20-30 minute wait I am told I am a high priority and that my case will be elevated. What does that result in? Seemingly nothing.

I was told they would suspend billing while my system was not functioning. Hasn't happened yet. I was told an "executive" would call me. That hasn't happened either. I was told they would get back to me in 3 to 5 business days with a status after someone did finally come to look at the system. NOPE! It took 3 weeks of calls and emails before someone would even call to schedule an appointment for a service team to come and look at the system. After the scheduler called it was another week before someone could come out to attempt to diagnose the issue.

The service team essentially couldn't find the problem and "think it might be the inverter"... again. The inverter SunPower provided has been serviced or replaced 4 times now. I really just want this thing off of my roof now. I really suggest against going with a SunPower lease. Some of the installers might be great. Some of the equipment might work just fine. If it doesn't though you seem to be SOL, or at least that's the impression I have.

My past five years and this is what my net energy has been with 24 panels!: 14.047, 13.732, 12,183, 5757, 8780!!! Yeah, you see the problem!!! Unbelievable!!!

Horrible company, never responds to help issues. Multiple problems in the 2 months we have had panels, also when they do work they do not produce enough power. The first month they produced about $30 worth of power, and I don't think it will be a whole lot better this month. It took over 8 months to install them from when the contract was signed, but I guess I wish they would have never installed them. Have a problem? Good luck getting them to help you, they do not answer questions from their help button on the website and if you call plan on being on hold for a long time. Paying APS more now that I have solar panels, don't quite understand how that works. I would not recommend them or Titan Solar who installed them to my worst enemy!!!

LA Solar Group advertised to me SunPower manufactured the best panels so I didn't mind to pay the premium to buy the best Equinox x22 system they have at the time, about 1.5 years ago. The system, especially the micro-inverter, could not stand the heat of California in Summer 2018. I contacted them and they blamed it's the glitch in the monitoring system but then they said they need to upgrade the firmware on micro-inverters remotely and it will take a month. I don't think it's the monitoring system glitch, looking at the SCE bill, the system is underperformed. My bill is sky-rocketed, not sure if Sunpower will be responsible for this?

It’s aggravating to have eighteen thousand dollars invested in solar panels that don’t work, but totally infuriating to deal with a company that doesn’t take ownership or responsibility for its product. Phone calls are met with scripted responses and supervisors are never available to speak with customers. Sadly, SunPower’s business practice appears to be: DISREGARD. DELAY. DENY. REPEAT. Our solar panels have been non-operational all summer, and even though the glitch was readily identified during a diagnostic service call, SunPower has taken no action to fix the problem. And their response to my inquiries? NOTHING. No phone call. No email. Nothing.

When I decided to get solar, I did my research and determined SunPower to have the best of the best solar panels and decided to go through Baker Electric to have them installed. I never thought to research SunPower's customer service. Had I researched that I would have gone with a different panel. In July of 2018 we noticed our production was low, we reached out to SunPower and on 3 different phone calls we were told 3 different things. We were told once that we would hear from someone reference the production decrease in 2-3 days. Then we were told it would be 8-10 days before our issue would be handled, but that I could help troubleshoot the system (from home) over the phone with them. I took off work early and went home to call them, only to be told that we could not troubleshoot over the phone.

I called again and asked to speak with a manager reference a complaint of customer service and was told that they were all "busy" and I would receive a phone call within 24 to 48 hours. I waited a week and received no call back. I called again and asked for another call back and was told the "manager" had reached out to us via email. The only email I received was telling me that microinverters were being ordered and I would receive an email when they came in. I again explained that I would like to speak with a manager reference a complaint and again they were "busy" and I would receive a call in 24-48 hours. Still waiting to speak with a manager.

Another week has passed and I have still yet to hear from anyone. I called again and was informed that the microinverters have been received and now are being sent to the technician. When he receives them I should be hearing from him. Still have yet to speak with a manager and they are all "busy" again. But another request for a phone call has been put in. I doubt I will ever speak to a manager. This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with.

We purchased a system for $32,000 including 30% tax credit. Had several bids and not happy with people I felt with. Read reviews but not well enough. SunPower was recommended to me and I contacted them. Bought the best system and panels they had with micro inverters though I heard they could fail in hot climates like Chico. Was assured SunPower had micro inverters that were flawless. Their bid was the highest of any I had obtained but felt comfortable with Alternative Energy Systems of Chico, Ca. System has showed little to no productions for the past 3-4 months.

Have contacted Alternative Energy System of Chico many times and they have assured me they are working with SunPower Ca. to resolve problem and they would seek reimbursement under warranty for my loss of production. Felt like I wasn't getting a straight answer and call SunPower headquarters. After waiting on hold for 2+hours they told we just needed some replacement parts. Called them again today and left a message after 1 1/2 hour wait. Still hoping Alternative Energy Systems of Chico will get results. Bottom line I would never purchase or recommend a SunPower System to anyone. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WARRANTY APPEARS TO MEAN LITTLE TO THEM, AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. I feel sorry for the Chico company who is stuck with them.

I have called SunPower, several times and complained with no satisfaction on their part. No one ever returns my calls. They know what the issue is and choose to ignore it.

The problem is that there is a sensor inside the inverters which is causing the issue. It is a simple solution as far as I am concerned... replace the sensors or the inverters. Weeks go by, naturally I have to call them to check status and am told, "Oh, we did get them but they are LOST in their warehouse and they can't find them!" They think someone stole them! WTF.

GUESS WHAT? No call so far. Westhaven also stated after I pressed them as to why they were not taking care of the situation since they were our installer, that if they did that they would have no time for the other customers - they are too busy. People all around us have had issues with them and their shotty contract installers, neighbor only has 10 of 15 panels working. The system is "on" but not producing any significant power to offset anything, shocking since 15 panels was suppose to supplant 80% of our power bill...

I went through Semper Solaris to get SunPower. If you look at the product and warranty you will be impressed however when you call Sunpower for assistance, they have the absolute worse customer service folks. My monitoring system has had an issue and now I am finding out that all my data is incorrect, there needs to be a change but now I will be in the dark for the rest of the year trying to figure out if I owe or not. Tried talking to them on the phone 4 different times and all 4 people were rude. All I wanted to know was if they could fix the issue and if the reporting would be updated with the right numbers. I love the company that installed my system but so disappointed with their service. I haven't rate anyone horrible but there is a first time and this is it!

I have called 5 times to schedule a service call. Each time same drill. The technician isn't at his desk but will call me back. Never a call back. It doesn't matter how angry I get or insistent. They don't care about service - only sales. Avoid SunPower at all costs.

I spent 41 thousand dollars on their product and install, the installer was a jerk. I spent another 10 grand fixing his installation problems, still I have 10 panels not working. They have replaced 6 before the 10 failed, they have since cut off the map of the panels on my roof so I have no way of knowing what ones are not working. I have a total of 51 panels. I do not recommend SunPower products or their installer Aram Solar in Calif. No matter where you are, stay as far away as you can from both. My panels are 3 yrs old. For two years I've had panel problems. Now Sun Power acts like they don't know who I am.

Purchased panels 3+ years ago and have had issues with their customer service since day one, way too many to list all here. Basically panels are not producing what is promised, told by technician we need 3-4 more that were installed and inverter also needs replacement. This means I have been paying more to SCE than necessary for the last 3 years. Of course my monthly report from SunPower says panels are producing as promised. Customer service is nil at best, and have been given at least 7 open ticket numbers for repairs, still waiting. Very frustrating, just told again they will meet regarding my concerns and should hear something next week... Seriously?

I would beware of this company! My wife and I chose SunPower after carefully reviewing all the solar panel company options. We chose SunPower because their panels were rated as technologically superior. While the initial installation was problem free, we have had nothing but problems every since and deeply regret that we locked ourselves into a 20 year contract with SunPower.

To begin with, the system stops working every few months or so, so that we have never had continuous service. But then, the nightmare begins each time we call customer service to have technicians come out and fix the problem. We generally need to call several times before we actually reach someone. Once we report the problem we generally do not hear back from anyone else and SunPower goes "missing in action" until we make several follow up calls and insist. Even at that, when technicians do call back, they expect us to be home during working hours to go to the side of our house and trouble-shoot around in the control box. Since we are not technicians (nor electricians or engineers) we can never resolve the problem on our own. Eventually, a technician shows up to fix the problem, but only after weeks of frustration and many phone calls to the company, some of them acrimonious, during which time we have no service.

On two separate occasions we have had to contact the manager Mabel **, as the only way to move beyond the lethargy, inertia, and incompetence of the company's customer service personnel and technicians. She has been extremely professional and immediately resolved the problem, first in April 2016 when we went weeks without the system functioning and then again in November 2016. There should be no reason we have to fight with the company in order to reach its manager to resolve the problem. Each time it is a major struggle to reach her. The customer service people insist that they, not the manager, will take care of the matter, but they never do. As I write these lines in July 2017 we have been without service for three weeks.

I loved my SunPower system when it was installed 7-8 years ago. However, the company that installed the system has since gone out of business. SunPower will only cover the product replacement - NOT the service involved in getting it replaced. In this situation, one of the wireless monitors has stopped working, and I am unable to track performance of the inverter - thus have no idea whether the system is even working, or how much energy is being produced. The tech on the phone was unfriendly, stuck to his script, and when I pushed, said "to be clear, the money to service the system will be coming out of your pocket." Not what I wanted to hear.

To be fair, I imagine that if the original installation company were still in business, they might have provided this service free of charge, but I have since spoken to other solar manufacturers who said it is their standard policy to provide this level of support to their clients who are spending thousands of dollars on their products.

SunPower state in their contract that there will not be a lien on my home. But after everything was done there is a lien on my home that they say they cannot remove. So for the next 20 years no bank would give me a loan until the 20 year lease is up. I am about to take legal action. Anyone who have the same problem can contact me.

This was a big purchase for us so we had saved for a while and did not need to finance. We just bought straight cash because we don't like payments. It was expensive but so far we enjoy it and for the money it is a good value because we use it often so can't complain about that. SunPower’s customer service was also very good. They explained everything including how to work my solar generator and troubleshooting in case of an event in which it stopped working. When it was delivered the technician showed us exactly how everything worked including the manual so we knew how to do everything which is important because sometimes we use it where we have no cell service.

SunPower was the company for me. They have thoughtful, courteous, prompt service, technicians knew their job well, explained in detail what they were doing and were able to address all questions and concerns I had. Also, set up and installation was so easy. Making arrangements to look over products and telephone confirmations were prompt. The installation took as long as I was told it would and not any longer than expected. I was also able to choose a pay per month plan that fit my budget. This made it easier to get the work done that I wanted. Some other companies did not offer this option. The value I received was great too!

Also, the Financing options that were available to me were worthy of note. I feel the value of the products purchased was terrific and very fair as well. I felt it was not underpriced, making it feel cheap, and was not overpriced, making me feel ripped off. I also didn't have to worry about anything with installation or set up. Companies can get away with not caring and doing their best. SunPower's installation could be a lot better. The setup was costly and confusing. It is a good value but the quality is uncharted and it seems they don't care. Moreover, customer service is not responsive to phone calls which can be frustrating. While their financial options are okay, the added interest is costly and could be better for consumers who are trying to live more environmentally friendly lives.

The experience was great because they finished on time. The packages that my consultant provided to me over the phone were very reasonable and worked in my favor financially... The options provided were well explained and I was able to choose the right one for me. The solar panels provided will pay for themselves in less than 10 years... Great value for the price. I didn't have enough energy for my big home. I hardly have any windows and needed more light. SunPower's representatives were very friendly and polite but they couldn't figure out how to help me. They came and did a great job setting the system up for me and told me it was exactly what I needed for my home. They knew what they were doing. However, the system wasn't nearly worth the price. It couldn't keep up with what was needed but they expected me to play their large prices. I couldn't afford the high payments they were asking for and they wouldn't work with me on what I could afford. I've found cheaper since then but after the bad experience I'm hesitant to do this again.
