Well going solar is not as great as they say. So I had a sales rep come and talk up a storm about going solar. He had the stats and showed how much I could save. Looked great, sign me up right? So I sign up, get the lease and was told that after the lease is up I would own the system and wouldn't have to pay any more. The delivery of parts came while i was at work. I called the sales rep and let him know it was here. My installation was great. No problems there. Getting the system online took about 5 days. Ok no problem. So I get a power bill for $80.00 the first month. I said, "Oh it because my system didn't go into affect till mid month." Then I get a bill for $25.00 the next month, I was a little concerned so I checked my system on my phone, everything look like it was working fine so I call the power company and they said oh well there is a charge for the use of the meter for my system.... (never told that by the sales man).

Ok time to get my tax papers ready so I go on line to Sunnova to get the information I need to file taxes. They were very helpful and gave me the link. While I was on the website I checked my usage and it said I was not producing any energy. So I had concerns and asked why my system was not working. They assured me the system was working right and that my usage only updates 48 hrs later. That makes no sense. So I get the monthly usage bill and it show there was no production of energy the day that I called them. (It was sunny not a cloud in the sky). So I get my tax papers together and send off to the accountant. I get a call telling me I can not write this off on my takes because the lease does not say Lease to own. So I'm like that can't be right because the sale rep said yes the system is good for tax rebates. So I get on the line and try to call my sales rep and no response.

So I get on the line with Sunnova and ask then and was told I only lease the system and when I was done Paying of the 65k lease I need to renew the lease. So I said I will never own the solar panels and they said no. I said well if I'm paying 65k for something I'm not going to own then come get them off my roof. I told them the sales rep lied to me or mislead me and said I will own them after the lease is up. So I said how can I pay off the lease and they said I can't. They said my only option was to pay the lease off and they would come get them or renew the lease. I said, "So you all can't take them off my roof now but when the lease is up and I don't own them then they can come get them." She said yes. This company is a scam. They have no clue what there doing. They just answer off a spread sheet and give you answers that make sense to them.

If you get a solar system read everything DO NOT let your sales rep tell you it's just formal paperwork for installation and lease agreement. Your lease agreement is not what the sales rep tells you. READ everything. I would stay clear of this company and do research before doing anything. They're trained to give fantastic smoke screens and not the truth. So now I have junk on my roof that I can't benefit from tax wise or bill wise. My power bill was only 125 a month with maybe a couple months 160 -190 and some bills as low as $75.00 I now pay 135 for panels and 25 to a power company and don't own the panels.

The worst part of getting duped by Sunnova is that it was sold to me by a friend. The sell point was that my electric bill would be $0.00 and I'd have a minimal lease payment. My electric bill has barely gone down, and my total payments for electric + lease payment is far beyond my previous pre-solar bill. Don't believe the sales pitch that your electric bill will go to $0.00.

I want to share my frustrating experience with SunNova Energy Corp to warn potential customers about their predatory business practices. Initially, I was excited about going solar and was drawn in by SunNova's promises of saving $700 per year. However, my journey with SunNova has been anything but smooth.

    My Concerns:
    1. Misleading Sales Promises

SunNova's sales team promised significant savings that turned out to be inflated and based on inaccurate calculations. Their sales deck, which I originally requested to share with my neighbors to promote solar, is now something I’m using to defend my case.

    2. Predatory Contract Terms

I signed a 25-year solar lease without realizing how one-sided the terms were. The contract benefits SunNova exclusively, leaving no room for fair negotiation.

    3. Unreasonable Buyout Offer

When I inquired about buying out the lease, SunNova offered a price of $35,776.51. This amount does not include any credit for depreciation, Illinois solar tax credits, or necessary repairs to the system caused by snow damage.

    4. Threats of a Lien

Despite my willingness to negotiate in good faith, SunNova has threatened to file a lien against my property. This feels like adding insult to injury.

    5. Lack of Transparency in Billing

SunNova charges a monthly amount significantly higher than originally agreed upon. Additionally, they expect me to pay for repairs caused by snow damage, even though the system's installation design failed to account for such weather conditions.

    6. Solar panels causing damage below

Due to accumulated snow on the roof falling onto my deck furniture, SunNova proposed installing a snow guard as a solution. The cost is $1,218, and they expect me to cover it!

Steps Taken: I reported my concerns to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and am awaiting resolution. I’ve also contacted Illinois State Attorney for the complaint but response was slow and not the best! My Current Plan: To ensure fairness and transparency, I am documenting the entire negotiation process on Medium.com. I plan to post ongoing reviews on major news platforms, to share my story with potential customers. I believe this situation could still become a "win-win" if SunNova steps up to resolve these issues fairly. Their response will determine whether they are a company that values customer satisfaction or one that exploits its customers.

Final Thoughts: If you're considering SunNova for solar energy, I urge you to involve a lawyer before signing any contract. Ensure the terms are transparent, calculations are accurate, and all potential liabilities are clearly addressed. Stay informed, and don’t make the same mistake I did. If you'd like to learn more about my experience, I’ve documented the entire process on Medium: **

My experience with Sunnova has been beyond upsetting. I feel completely misled by their representatives when signing up for their service. Since installation, it has been nothing short of a nightmare. Instead of saving money, I’m now stuck paying three separate electric bills: my original PSEG bill for my usage, a bill for my tenant’s usage, and an additional Sunnova payment — totaling nearly $800 a month!

For over a year and a half, I’ve been calling repeatedly for help, but nothing has been resolved. Recently, I was even sent to collections despite my ongoing efforts to find a solution. It was only after countless calls that I was informed my solar system only covers daytime electricity use. Now I’m being told I need to buy a costly battery and enroll in an exportation program just to cover my nighttime usage. I was never informed of these limitations or expectations when I signed up, and although they’ve admitted fault, they have offered no real solutions. This entire experience has been infuriating and financially draining. I strongly urge others to stay far away from this company if you want to avoid a similar nightmare.

We have called repeatedly and sent a death certificate to Sunnova, requesting that they remove the panels. They have refused, stating that the contract could only be cancelled 3 - 5 business days after signing. What kind of company puts an 80+ yr old person under contract, knowing that they are in the twilight of their life? We now have to replace our roof and Sunnova refuses to permanently remove the panels. Energy Pal is the sales arm for Sunnova and we purchased a system 20 months ago. It was suggested by friends that even though it’s a bit more expensive to lease so many of these companies have gone bankrupt at least if you have a problem they have to be responsive. I’m certainly glad I didn’t buy it; but, it took 20 months For them to finally install the system correctly and as promised. I had to find a reinstallation company because Sunnova couldn’t find a local company to reinstall the work of their original installers, Infinity Energy, who went bankrupt and we’re here 16 separate times trying to complete the installation. I had holes in my roof and in my garage wall which I had to find the contractors to come out and repair after asking Sunnova to take care of it.

Their installation did damage to my ceiling which had to be repaired and repainted as well as a hole in my garage wall which also had to be repaired and repainted. They do everything by committee yet you cannot speak to anyone on the committee. They have a buffer of a customer service representative who keeps going back-and-forth and acting as middleman but is powerless to make any decisions.

20 months after it was installed and after refusing to pay them for two months they finally Allowed me to get a local installer who is excellent but charged over $5000 to move panels and reinstall them which Sunnova ultimately paid for under threat of lawsuit. Energy Pal represented at the time of sale that the system would produce 110% of my last year's Energy Bill yet they only guarantee less than 80%. Misrepresentations, outright lies, incompetence, damage to my home all through Energy Pal and Sunnova. I would never recommend them and would only recommend staying as far away from Sunnova and/or its agents as possible.

I was impressed by the professionalism of Sunnova until I actually needed to have a repair. First, the system was off line for a month and I didn't notice until I got a monstrous bill for electricity from Met Ed. I then looked up my account and found that my solar had been not working for over a month and a half. Don't they monitor such things and notify me to set up an appointment for a diagnosis? Then I called and couldn't get an appointment for quite some time. Then they came and needed a part. I'm now on the 3rd week of waiting for a part and of course then we have to get a service appointment and hopefully it will be the right part......

My system was activated prematurely 8 months ago so they could start charging my bank, system was inoperable from day 1! After the system was activated the main breaker to the house would constantly trip and I would have to go out and reset the breaker. I called to inform them of the issue and they sent a technician. The technician told me "the main breaker could not handle the load the solar panels were providing and the system would need to be deactivated and should not have been activated in its current state, something the installers should have known.".

He informed me that parts would have to be ordered and a new main breaker installed before the system could be operable. He told me he would order the parts and reach out to set up an appointment to install the new breaker, and that if I didn't hear back in a week or two to call Sunnova and get an update. That was in April. I have called several times since and have been given the run around. After my last appointment to get it fixed was canceled on 11/7/24 I called and they won't reschedule! Allegedly they have been waiting for parts for the last 6+ months. I asked them to stop payment as I was told no charges would occur until the system was operable, which it is not. I was told a request for stop payment would be put in and I should hear back within a week.

The support agent could provide no additional information as to what parts needed to be ordered or the approximate arrival of said parts. When I asked the support agent to speak to somebody who could give me more information I was told it was being handled by the "Internal Team" and they did not have any way of being contacted, no email or phone number and he had no way to transfer me.

When I asked to speak with somebody who could process the stop payment immediately I was again told those requests are handled by the "Internal Team" who, again, have no way of being contacted. I have requested every time I call that a stop payment and refund be issued, and until this most recent call was told that there was no way to stop payment as it is in the contract, and that refunds were issued after the anniversary date of system activation. The only problem is that the system was never properly activated and has produced 0kwh of energy outside of the initial activation when the breaker would trip at least once a day.

Predatory practices to lure you into a contract that will eventually have you paying twice as much for total energy bill. I signed up to go solar with the promise of a huge rebate from the state of Maryland. My original monthly payment was $244. Sunnova expects a balloon payment from that rebate to keep your original monthly payments. WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU is that rebate comes as a tax return. But each year, the IRS will only give you an amount equal to what your tax burden was.

My "rebate" will be stretched over several years, so I'll NEVER get the lump sum to make the balloon payment. Now my monthly amount is going up an additional $127, (nearly $370 a month). And that is ON TOP of what I get charged from the electric company for times when there is little or no sun light (like night time or winter. That means during winter, between Sunnova and Pepco, my total electric bill will be close to $700 per month. Sunnova has been completely inflexible with me on this matter, so I am now stuck with this massive financial burden for the next 280+ months (nearly 25 years). Sunnova has screwed me and my family financially. I WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER OFF JUST STAYING WITH MY UTILITY COMPANY. DON'T GO SOLAR!

I chose Sunnova for solar with high expectations based on their promises. They assured me that the solar panels would cover over 90% of my energy consumption, yet in reality, the system barely produces enough to cover even 50% of my needs. I pay a hefty fixed rental fee of $331 monthly, yet the production value has consistently been less than $100 per month, far from what was promised.

To make matters worse, my system stopped producing power entirely during the peak summer months of July and August. Despite this major issue, Sunnova failed to notify me, leaving me unaware of the outage until my energy bills reflected it. When I requested a refund for the rental fees during these non-operational months, Sunnova declined, leaving me to pay for a service I didn’t even receive. If you're considering Sunnova for your solar needs, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. The promises simply do not align with the performance or customer support.

Well, I've added the cost of solar to my utility bill because it was confirmed last week that my system doesn't cover half of my needs. Plus the rebate I was supposed to get back in my tax returns gets signed over to Sunnova to keep monthly payments down. We bought our solar system from an outfit called Suntuity. They installed it in November of 2023. Suntuity went belly-up within a few weeks, and we received notice from Sunnova that they took over Suntuity’s book of business and would be administering our solar. We were copied on an email in January of 2024 from the state of NJ to Sunnova that Suntuity’s application for certification of the system on our behalf was defective and needed to be corrected and resubmitted. This certification by the state is required for us to receive SRECs (solar renewable energy credits).

Sunnova dragged their feet on resubmitting the application. After weeks and weeks of frustrating emails and phone calls (many unanswered) and a referral to the Better Business Bureau, they finally sent the corrected application to the state. However, because of Sunnova’s delay, our application wasn’t accepted until March. This meant our application went to the back of the line for consideration. Thus, SRECs due to us were delayed.

In August of this year, we received a phone call from a Sunnova rep advising the first of the SREC checks ($841.50) would begin arriving “shortly” and we would receive a check every two months. This comes out to $5049 annually. When no check was forthcoming by mid-September, I began emailing and calling again. When I finally got through to a problem resolution specialist, he said that the “every two months” we were quoted was a mistake. It would be more like every three months, or $3366 annually. BIG DIFFERENCE!

As of now, mid-October, no check has been received. Also, the system broke down in early September and was not producing power. Sunnova sent a tech to repair it. She said it was fixed. It was not. They sent another tech out a few days later and he fixed it. In all, we went for eighteen days with no energy production. Our electricity company raided our bank of kilowatt hours (KWHs) to make up for the loss of energy production. This means our SREC payments would likely be reduced. Sunnova refused to replenish our bank of the KWHs we lost. I’m about to make another referral to the Better Business Bureau. I would not recommend doing business with Sunnova.

I completed the contract to have my solar system installed April 2022. I was advised that it would be completed by August of 2022. LIE. The system was not completed until June of the following year, a full 14 months later, after repeated calls and followups month after month. I was advised that I would receive an income tax credit of $7000 per year for 3 years for a total of $21,000.00 which I could return to Sunnova to keep my payments where they were initially set. LIE. The credit turned out to be capped at $12,000.00. For the first 12 months after the system was installed, it didn't work properly. I continued to be told that Sunnova was awaiting a 'part' for it. FOR A FULL YEAR!! ...And yet I continued to faithfully pay the bill each month as agreed upon.... And since the part was replaced June 2024, It's had to be replaced now twice - one of which is current, meaning my system right now is NOT WORKING!!

During Hurricane Helene, I found that MY POWER WAS OUT. I called and a tech was sent to advise that neither of my batteries are working and need the same part that has already previously been replaced, and which did not work immediately following the initial installation for 12 months. He also advised that there were panels that needed to be repaired that were also not working properly and so a 'crew' was being scheduled. THIS IS A BRAND NEW SYSTEM!!! In addition, the scheduled repair was today. Sunnova sent me a message yesterday to confirm the appt only to call me this morning to advise that they were not coming for SAFETY REASONS, Look, I understand that there is a storm coming, but I live in Jacksonville, NOT Tampa, and the storm is not scheduled to affect this area until tomorrow evening.

For 15 months now, I've been basically paying full utility ($300+) and full Solar with the exception of a couple of months, only to be told that Sunnova will review my account after 12 months to determine whether or not it's producing what it's supposed to produce. While it was actually connected/working, if the power switched from the grid to solar, it would kick out 2 or 3 of the breakers in my home. I advised Sunnova, who sent a tech to my home twice to tell me it was an electrical issue with my panel and that I needed to consult an electrician. I paid the out of pocket expense only to have David Gray Electric write me an invoice advising that there is nothing wrong with my breaker panel and the issue is with the solar installation! Another unwarranted out of pocket expense to ME that is the result of what apparently appears to be ineptitude on the part of Sunnova.

Oh, but they can't reimburse me for any of the inconvenience, additional costs incurred due to the system that is not and has not worked properly. This is a system with 30 panels, 2 Inverters and monitors and what appears to be 6 3.0 kWh EX module G0080000 (43.2 VDC) Generac batteries. I say that to say this is no small system and there is no way that I should be paying the utility (electric) bills that I'm paying, or for that matter, experiencing the issues I'm experiencing with this system. I have a series of email, text messages and list of phone calls back and forth to Sunnova since installation and the only thing that they have done is schedule a technician and basically tell me 'keep paying us while you continue to pay your utility company and hurry up and wait. We aren't giving you anything until 12 months have passed.' Nothing to make me feel valued as a customer after all of the issues and back and forth.

Regarding today's "scheduled" appointment, today is October 8th and I was advised that the next available appt is October 22nd. Are you kidding me?!?! Oh, but they did have a young lady call me and ask - and I quote, "Hi, do you have $20,000.00 for me?" Obviously referencing the income tax credit that I was falsely advised I would receive.... And imagine, it hasn't even been 3 years just yet.... Oh, but they're ready to go up on my payment. It really feels like 'Kiss my a' and pay me.' Well how about give me what I'm paying for.

I've referenced that it kinda feels like buying an electric car to save on gas, but after getting it home, it won't drive. You can sit in it in the driveway, and maybe charge your phone or listen to the radio, but it won't drive. It looks pretty, but it won't drive.... And every now and again, they'll send a tech out to tinker with it, but it still won't drive.

Our house sold and weeks later I called them to ask why I was still paying for the panels, and they apparently had not done anything about the transfer. They are very passive and will have you keep paying while doing nothing. Eventually after I contacted the buyers and multiple phone calls to Sunnova, the transfer went through a few months later. They haven't even tried to determine what the cause of the increase was in my PG&E bill. I have been trying to do my own research and present them with my findings. This is a horrible company that will say whatever they need to to get you to buy from them but will not offer any support for issues that arise after the installation in complete. Updated on 11/12/2024: We were hit up about going with a leased solar system from Sunnova. Within months, the gateway went out, took them four months to fix it, while installing new gateways on new accounts and not taking care of existing accounts. We had to pay them and back to paying our electric company. Then we put our house up for sale, lost most potential sales because of the leased system, no one wants to assume them. When the rep said we will evaluate your roof before installing our system, they said it was fine, one year later, we get a buyers roofer that says roof needs replacing, $14,500, not including R&R the solar system, Sunnova wants almost $10,000 to do that. 3 doors down, Sunnova replaced that lady's roof before putting their system up there.

You will never own this system, you will pay them monthly and at the end of the contract, they will come and remove it. No possible buyout, but you can prepay, $31,000 so you don't have monthly payments, but they will still remove it in 25 years. I wish I would have read the contract better, I never would have done this. We may lose the house over this and still be responsible for the monthly solar payments for the next 24 years!

Original Review: Sunnova has left us stranded because their gateway went out 3 months ago and I had to tell them about it even though they could see it wasn't working. They have made two far-out appointments to fix this and have not shown up. Multiple emails to them return with textbook excuses. I found the part on Amazon a long time ago, could have had in one day. No one at Sunnova can even tell me if the system is even working. Absolutely no customer service!

Almost a year in and the system is still not operational but we are getting bills from Sunnova. This has been by far the worst decision we have made. We went on Generac's web page and they referred Sunnova. I encourage people to actually read these reviews and how Sunnova is destroying peoples lives. We own a small farm/hatchery and needed a back up system because we get power outages in our area. We incubate birds and and purchased a 150K system from Sunnova as a back up for the farm and our family. From A-Z the process is a nightmare. Mike told us that you get a government kick back and said it works exactly like a "child credit", that is a complete lie and the tax credit he sold as on we did not need in this economy. Thus the install took 8-9 months instead of the 2-3 months Sunnova promised. Then when finally they were done we thought we can get one with our lives.

So far the system failed and broke down in every storm and as of now is down. IT HAS NEVER WORKED when we needed it too. We lost thousands of birds because our 150K back up system is trash. I would just ask you to actually read the reviews. They are billing us for a system that is not working and we are trying to see what can do and options we have. We will try to tell our detailed story as much as possible to hopefully save someone from the hell that we are going through with Sunnova.

Now I am selling my home, and the closing of the house is being delayed b/c Sunnova can't advise properly on how to transfer the lease from me (seller) to the new buyer. Despite promptly submitting all requested documentation, the response from Sunnova has been frustratingly slow and incompetent. We have sent the recorded deed and other necessary documents multiple times over the past two weeks, both from escrow and myself, yet they continue to request them as if they were never received. This repeated request is completely unacceptable and demonstrates a severe lack of competence on their part. Each follow-up typically leads nowhere, only to be informed later—unexpectedly—that additional paperwork is required, paperwork that was never initially mentioned by their representatives.

Additionally, I have been told different things by different customer service representatives via chat, email, and phone, leading to further confusion and delays. This lack of clear communication and efficiency has left me in a precarious position, as I am still responsible for the account and its billing, even after the closure of my home sale. This experience has been exceedingly stressful and entirely unsatisfactory, prompting me to advise potential customers to consider other providers for their solar needs. He KNEW panels are NEVER put on a 20+ yr old roof w/ 2 layers of old shingles. My roof was damaged during the installation and is leaking - but was never told of this -shingles were broken/ ripped off to screw in the grid bases which were not securely fastened to the roof and caused shingle to lift off. It's been 5 months and Sunnova refuses any responsibility for my repairs. In addition I get an invoice for $10K or remove THEIR panels - which NEVER should have been put on my home in the 1st place essentially preventing me from making these urgent, costly repairs.

The cost I'm facing to replace my roof today is approx $5,000 MORE than it would have been IF it had been done BEFORE the panels were installed AND _ I would not have to pay an additional $10K to remove the panels. Sunnova - which is nothing short of a criminal enterprise -and getting away with their dishonest schemes. We have reported them to every state and federal agency and will continue our pursuit knowing that eventually - Sunnova WILL be held accountable under the laws. We NEVER saw a contract. My signature was forged electronically without my knowledge/consent. Our experience - Sunnova broke all these NJ laws under the Consumer Fraud Act:

"The act, use or employment by any person of any unconscionable commercial practice, deception, fraud, false pretense, false promise, misrepresentation, or the knowing, concealment, suppression, or omission of any material fact with intent that others rely upon such concealment, suppression or omission, in connection with the sale or advertisement of any merchandise or with the subsequent performance of such person as aforesaid, whether or not any person has in fact been misled, deceived or damaged thereby, is declared to be an unlawful practice….”.

Sunnova was "flagged, given an "F" rating by the BBB in Houston. My HO insurance carrier is not renewing in NJ. I called 2 other companies and was told they WON'T sign a policy for a customer w/ Sunnova panels they're "black listed" due to the thousand of negative reviews /complaints. ConsumerAffairs as hundreds of negative complaints/reviews from Sunnova customers reporting issues- poor customer service, difficulties reaching representatives, unexpected billing problems. This information is everywhere. The problem is rampant. The NJ Attorney General has many complaints about Sunnova and its local sales partners. These claims were related to sales tactics and all the above issues mentioned. Ripoff Report also mentions deceptive practices and fraudulent promises by Sunnova and its partners enticing (LYING) customers to get solar panels.

Sunnova is currently under investigation by the Fed Gov't for rampant reports of predatory business practices against disadvantaged homeowners like myself. Additionally, it claims that this conduct exposed the company to regulatory and reputational risks and that Sunnova’s positive statements about its business, operations, and prospects were misleading. Sunnova is nothing short of a criminal enterprise using the most deceptive, dishonest business tactics for their own profit.

They are breaking laws and they will continue to cause great harm and financial ruin to thousands of innocent, trusting homeowners like ourselves unless they are stopped and we are committed to exposing this business and warning others from making the same mistake we did and trusting them with our home. It's hard to understand how or why a comp w/ a net worth of $669.50 million and a value of over $8.21 billion could stoop as low as to SCAM thousands of customers/innocent homeowners into solar and cause them extreme financial distress and serious property damage.

I was paperless prior to changing the system and was changed to paper which I did not receive until I got the overdue notice. It was a nightmare accessing the new system and paying the balance. I had to call customer service repeatedly to get the issue resolved. Here we go again, overdue phone message and guess what, no one answers and the message says it is Thanksgiving holiday, it is November 9th. Not sure what I need to do to get rid of dealing with this company.

Since August the system installed in my house has been working poorly, every two weeks they visit technicians and do a review, then they tell me they must return, the system was disconnected and they didn't even notify me, on each visit more technicians come to work and after 2-3 hours they leave with the excuse that they have to return another day with other technicians, but I don't see them even going up to the roof or doing anything other than looking up and drinking their coffee from 7 Eleven (they leave me empty glasses at the entrance to my garage).

When I asked Sunnova if they would give any credit for the months that I have been paying Sunnova and my electricity company, the billing department told me that I should wait until January 2024 when the company does its review and decides if it can give me a credit, which for Of course it will influence the production of the system installed on my roof, which has been offline for 6 months because the equipment and panels owned by Sunnova must be replaced and repaired.

The customer service area, a complicated topic, the answers are always different, they never see in their system what is happening or what will happen and if you ask to speak with a supervisor, the answer is the same with a promise that they will call you back at the end of the day with more details of the case, days and weeks pass and the call is never made. I think it's time to include myself in the long list of customers dissatisfied with Sunnova's terrible service and file a formal complaint in state court???.

I have been a Sunnova customer since the end of 2020. Before installation the sales agent claimed that my energy bills from NationalGrid would go down because the solar panels would meet most of the energy demands. I do understand that climate and actual usage may cause the bill from NationalGrid to up or down a bit. But the reality is that now I am paying almost the same or sometimes even more than what I used pay without the panels. On top of that Sunnova keeps increasing the monthly amount every year. Now they are charging a ridiculously high rate of almost 22 cents per kWh, NationalGrid itself is charging 19 cents and other providers such SmartEnergy is charging 14 cents for the same. What is the whole point installing solar panels if I am going to be paying more for energy. Stay way from Sunnova.

I was looking for any solution for utility power outages. A Sunnova salesman returned my call. I have medical equipment that I need constant power to especially during a power outage. This is the reason I searched for a solution. The salesmen said that I needed a solar system with battery backup. That was grid tied. And the system he could provide would also decrease my electric bill and produce enough to keep my utility bill to zero. Only thing I would pay is a monthly lease for around a steady $149 a month. He said 4 to 6 weeks after contract signed the system would be installed and running. He promised that I could see the power usage/production on the phone app.

About 14 months later and many calls and texts asking the salesman what the status is. He NEVER ONCE RETURNED MY CALL OR TEXT. A 2 man crew came from Houston to turn on the system. I asked what system. They still hadn't installed it yet. They said that it was supposed to have already been installed. They called the salesman and got into a cursing argument with him over the phone in my front yard. Then got back in their van for a 10 hour drive back to Houston. I heard nothing from anyone for several months afterwards.

I called sunnova they had me on hold and couldn't find anything about an order for me. I finally called them and told them I wanted to cancel my contract since they didn't install anything. They said that the order had already been placed and a contractor would install the next Monday. A contractor crew finally arrived on the Monday. And asked me where the equipment was. They were supposed to have it. Not me. They left and returned 2 weeks later with only half the equipment because they lost the rest. So they slapped up a few panels they had and left. They never returned. I called sunnova again many times only to get the runaround. Finally a different contractor showed up with more equipment and was going to finish the install. After two days they said that they can't turn it on because it was still missing equipment.

After another 4 weeks or so they returned and installed more equipment. But didn't turn it on because they said that they wasn't sure if they installed it right. This was the first time installing this type of system. But said if I wanted to turn it on I could. I was absolutely not going to touch any of that system. I called sunnova again relaying what the contractor said. I told them then that either they bring out certified inspectors or they were going to take it down and cancel the contract. Around a month and half passed before a completely different contractor showed up. And said that they can't certify it because it was installed wrong and if powered up would most certainly burn down the house. They then left. They never returned. Again on the phone with Sunnova again.

Finally an actual Enphase crew showed up several weeks later. They spent 2 days completely removing everything from the house and reinstalling it. I asked where the battery backup was at. The site manager said that the system was never designed to have one. I asked how do I monitor the system from the app. He said that the system didn't include the $30 sensor set to use the app. I asked about the power production ability and showed him my data that I gave to the salesman. He said there's no way this system would produce that amount. Everything the salesman promised was a lie. And the system shuts down during a power failure. But that's not all. They tell me to order the sensor kit and have it installed to monitor the system. I have an electrician friend that does this for me. Because I need to make sure the system even works.

As soon as the enphase app sees the new sensor, it displays that a panel isn't working. So again I call Sunnova. Finally 2 months later a guy in a sunnova van shows up and asks for me to give him the parts that they sent me to replace the inverter. But they didn't ever send me any parts. So he goes up on the roof and does something to the panels comes back down and said give it two days to show up on the app. Two day later now 3 solar panels are not working. So I go up to look and take pictures. The guy didn't remount the inverter to the bottom of the panel. He just threw it under and scraped it across the shingles and scraped a bunch of insulation off the wires. I immediately came down and cut the breaker off to the solar panel system.

Another call to Sunnova. And another 3 weeks later another contractor finally showed up and said that the inverter the last guy had worked on nearly caught fire. The second time sunnova nearly burned down my house. He replaced the inverter and fixed the problem causing all 3 panels to fail. Within 1 hour not 2 days the app shows that every panel is now working. So around 24 months have passed to finally get a working solar system. Only it's still not working as promised. The promised zero balance utility bill jumps from average $60 month to $155 a month and on top of that Sunmova is charging $146+. So now in total my electric has gone to $301. And it's not producing enough and have never gotten a utility company rebate as was promised to make the utility bill zero.

Oh that's not the end of the nightmare. Since then 3 other solar companies have stopped by asking who did my panels. They said I need to get someone out to inspect them because they can tell from the street that they are installed wrong. So I had another company come out. They also deal with Sunnova and Enphase the maker of the panels. And said the same thing. The system is undersized, etc...

This new company is providing the 11 missing solar panels and the battery backup in a second system as well as under the contract providing maintenance. And syncing it with the existing system. But I am supposed to call Sunnova so they can link the 2 systems as one so the app and utility company can get the accurate data. Enphase only needs for sunnova to contact them with the ok to sync them. Sunnova doesn't have to do anything else. So I call. The girl say they can do that but has to clear it with her supervisor. Puts me on hold. She comes back and says her supervisor said they can't because of some 3rd party issue. She then proceeded to lie to me and I caught her in the lie.

I asked to speak to her supervisor. She then tells me that she doesn't have a supervisor. I asked, "Didn't you just tell me that you had to clear something with your supervisor." She said yes. But now you don't have a supervisor. She said yes. So do you or do you not have a supervisor? Yes I have a supervisor. Then apparently you don't have the authority to take care of the issue I need help with. She then accused me of cussing her out. DIDN'T HAPPEN! Again I ask, "Let me speak to your supervisor." She puts me on hold for around 10 minutes hoping I would hang up. I'm calling her bluff and waiting. She finally comes back on the phone and said she discussed this with her teammates and said that they told her to tell me that I didn't need to talk to her supervisor. So there's no one for me to talk to. Then she begins to lecture me about what I should do.

The experience with Sunnova is horrible. They don't care about the customer or our needs. I'm stuck in a contract with them and can't afford the lawyer to get out of it. If I could I would have them get their stuff off my house before their inability to do anything right possibly burns my house down. As far as the enphase equipment. As long as it is installed properly and maintained properly I don't think there's any problem with it.

The problem is Sunnova and their lack of respect for the customer, their failure to provide properly trained contractors, their failure to provide service in the promised time frame, their failure to provide honest salesmen, their failure to provide what the customer actually needs and requests, and their uncaring, unprofessional despicable way they do business.

After all this they have the gull to send me an email for a positive review. They aren't getting it. Especially after treating their customers like dirt. Lying to me then falsely accusing me of cussing them out. I don't think so. Do your mental health a favor and stay away from the stress of dealing with sunnova. My health is not so good. I have heart and lung issues and dealing with sunnova is not doing those conditions any favors. It wasn't the best idea for me to get up on my roof. But this time it saved my family and I's life and home. If you deal with them make sure you get everything inspected by a certified or licensed professional before trusting them with your home and everything and everyone in it.

You get your bill PLUS the electric bill and wonder why you now have twice the amount to pay.. Then you try contacting their support and that's where the dance starts. Their customer service is nonexistent, their support laughable and all they do is tell you "they will forward your complaint to their escalation level" which is literally nothing. Now we are 3 months into 2 bills and not a single support person in sight to help.. Because they honestly don't know what they are doing. Now we are looking at legal fees to get out of this monster contract on top of having to pay for 2 services.. So whatever you do. You see their logo, RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.

Our solar sales agent who initially came to the house works for a company called Suntuity which is an authorized dealer for Sunnova. They told us several things which have all turned out to be empty promises. First, we were told that we were being provided a $2500 rebate, even wrote it down on our documents. We were told we would receive this within a few weeks after installation. We are now going on 6 months, and were told that the finance department was behind on getting the rebates out and it wouldn't be the promised $2500, but a prorated amount which they would determine. They now claim they cannot give an expected delivery date on the check, however, they sent us a tax form for us to claim on our taxes to say we did in fact receive a $2500 rebate. (Will be following up with the IRS.)

Secondly, they did the installation and punctured a hole in our house to pull electrical wiring through it to connect to the system. They looped the wiring and left it laying on the ground and claimed they would have a company come out and repair the hole and wiring. That was about 6 months ago. They claimed the installation was complete, but when I went to check the system I found out that the service connection and Gateway system was not connecting to the server, so the electricity we were apparently producing was not being recorded and our regular electric bill was actually higher than normal.

Contacted the company to report it, they opened a ticket to have it checked, then closed the ticket. Contacted Suntuity and they took nearly 4 months from the reported date to come out and fix it. This was all going on while we were receiving a bill for service each month. I have now contacted Sunnova several times to have the hole in the wall of my house patched, and the wiring repaired, only to be told they will contact us when they have a date to have the repairs completed. We are now heading in to fall with the temperatures dipping down, and heavy rains. Meanwhile, we are still receiving a bill for the services provided.

We were told during our installation that Sunnova was the largest solar company in the country, and so far I question how that can be the case with the customer service being as abysmal as it is. There are a number of solar companies operating in the country and I would venture to say that all of them are a far better option than this. I have never had such a run around from a company in all my life, and I've never experienced such a complete lack of desire to try and get anything complete without having to constantly hound them. All of the solar companies come at you with pushy sales reps. Would highly recommend you do your homework and dig deep in to all of the companies before signing on as they all like to dress themselves up to be better than they are. We were really excited about going solar, but now just left completely disappointed.

This company has the worst customer service of any business I have ever dealt with. And they ended up costing me more money during the purchase of my home. I bought my house in December 2022 with the solar lease already in effect from previous owners. During the credit approval process they had no problem speaking with me or my daughter to obtain my personal credit information. When it came time to do the transfer of service, they requested a power of attorney from me. We had already scheduled a closing date and locked in the interest rate.

When I asked the customer service rep what they needed my POA for, explained that I was the buyer of the house, they would only respond, “we can’t do anything until we have it.” I asked who it was supposed to go to and what it was supposed to cover and the only response was the same, they just needed it. After speaking with my attorney I was instructed not to give Sunnova my POA. They held up the transfer, thereby holding up the closing, cost me more in interest and points because we had to go beyond the lock in and buy points to hold the new higher interest rate. Absolutely no one at Sunnova cared. No supervisors are ever available to speak to customers.

It took five weeks for the attorneys for buyer and seller to convince Sunnova to do the transfer without a POA. To this date I still have no idea why they kept requesting my power of attorney. On top of all of this, my electric bill is still high, which they couldn’t care less about as long as they’re getting their money, and they increased the lease fee by $17 a month!

    1. I was offered a system which generates 15,357 KWH annually with a guarantee that the system will produce at least 85% of the estimated production or I would be offered a refund or credit for the difference.

    2. I signed the contract with SUNTUITY which is a contractor for SUNNOVA, on 06/25/2022, also as part of the agreement I was expected to take down 6 trees from my property as these were casting a shadow on the roof where the panels were supposed to be installed.

    3. Since my property is adjacent to a protected conservation area, had to go through multiple hoops with the town authorities to seek permission to cut the trees, eventually the task of cutting the trees was completed in Q4’22.

    4. I kept following up with Suntuity for the installation, however, never got a confirmed answer on dates. Eventually, when the dates were confirmed, the process dragged on for months along with pathetic scheduling.

    5. Every person involved would state something and the outcome would be something else, e.g., the scheduler would call up and state that the work is only required on the exterior and no adult is required at home however, when the technician would arrive, he would state interior access is required. Between me and my wife we had to take nearly 4 days off in total due to these unplanned requirement(s).

    6. Once the panel installation was completed, we were told that someone would come for inspection and then install the meter and then the town/ utility company representative will come and connect to the grid. It’s been more than 4 months; it has not happened.

    7. In the interim I was given a revised contract where the production capacity was reduced from 15,357 KWH to 12,260 KWH for the same price. For which I was not given any logical explanation. The reasoning I was given was that underwriting stated they felt there was still some shadow from the trees, whereas I cut down the exact same trees that Suntuity asked me to take down at the first place.

    8. When I refused to sign, they offered me a credit of $2500, which I was told would be paid out as soon as I sign the revised contract. I signed the revised contract on 07/31/2023 and today as of this note, its 09/09/2023, I’m yet to receive that payment. When I called to enquire after multiple follow-ups, I was informed it will only be paid out once the system is operational.

    9. As of this date, I have not been provided any ETA on when the system will be operational however, Sunnova still went ahead with generating an Auto-Pay for my monthly dues of $210. When I called Sunnova’s customer care, I was simply asked to talk to Suntuity as it was their mess-up. I was told that Suntuity updated the records stating the work has been completed.

    10. It's been more than 14 months, both Suntuity and Sunnova cannot get a system up and running, yet have the audacity to charge the customer for services they are unable to facilitate.

The roofing company comes and gives us an estimate but states that he can't repair anything until the panels have been removed and this is where the battle begins. We have been on the phone with the nonstop since April, they have flat-out lied to us in stating when they would come out and remove the panels. They have a policy in place that the quote they give to do a job is only good for 10-15 days. Well when you attempt to contact them about the work that needs to be done, they tell you, "We will look into this matter" and it will take 24-48 hrs to look into it.

Well, two days have gone by now and when you call again to complain they tell you this again 24-48 hours, so now it's been another two days, four days total and this continues until the 10th day and then you need another quote and the process starts all over. Like I said we have dealing with this since April and my wife is on the verge of a nervous breakdown dealing with this company. I have written the BBB and when they reached out to Sunnovo, they stated that they will look into the matter, which means nothing will happen. I have been hassling them for three years now to take care of the problems. We repaired the roof ourselves, my son-in-law is a contractor, but he did reimburse for materials. I have been without solar for 2 1/2 years now and I’m being hassled again by Sunnova. I want the panels installed on a stronger roof of an attached extension and they’re telling me I need to hire an engineer to inspect and generate a report.

I’m telling them it’s their responsibility to inspect and get approval, not mine and if they can’t I want the contract cancelled and my money returned for the inoperative years. If they don’t I’ll file a contractor's default with the state of California. California does not like bad contractors. Bottom line is: NEVER use Sunnova as a contractor for solar installations. If their solar installations are this bad I’d be very hesitant using them for anything else. Bad management Carries across the board. Paul F., California

Customer service and products are a joke. It took me 3 months for them to come out and remove my solar panels for a new roof which cost me $3500. The sales guy told me it would be $500. The roof was one of my concerns because I knew it only had a few years of life left. So 3500 + a new roof + damage caused by 3 additional months of water leaks placed my family in hardship. It has been 6 months with a new roof and Sunnova has not come out to reinstall. On top of it all, they have been pulling money out of my account with no install date to be seen and I have to pay my local electric company. Sunnova has not saved me a penny in production from day 1 according to their online charts. Called them plenty. Filed with BBB. Finally got an appointment to be taken away from me after a week. STAY AWAY FROM SUNNOVA AT ALL COSTS!!! Their entire customer service and billing plan seems to be to wait people out until they surrender. Sunnova didn't do any installation for us, but we have a loan from them for our Solar panels that is right at $35,000. Our panels were installed in 2019. We had no issues during the first couple of years of our business relationship, but in November of 2022 when I logged into the state exchange to sell our solar credits for cash, I found out that something was broken in our system.

We had generated 11.183 MWh from the beginning of September 2021 through the end of September 2022. The going rate of 11 MWh of energy in 2022 for me was $227 per credit, meaning that my wife and I, as well as my two young children are owed $2497. I called my solar company and they sent someone out to see what was wrong with my system, and figured out that an inverter was broken and needed to be replaced. When that was replaced, my old credits disappeared with the inverter.

Additionally, the inverter breaking meant that even though we were generating solar energy every day, my Solar Edge panel showed 0 MWh generated for the months of October 2022 through the end of January 2023. The solar company officially replaced the inverter on February 6, 2023, and on February 8, 2023, I reached out to Sunnova’s customer service via email, formally trying to file a loss of production claim. The terms of my signed contract with Sunnova are quite clear that they are the provider and that they would provide a loss of production guarantee and that this would be within the 30 days.

I have received specific promises over the phone and via email from customer service and resolution specialists who start off making me feel like this is going to be resolved soon, to then reverse course with weeks of ignoring my phone calls and emails. They approved $929.40 on April 12, 2023, for the 10/2022 – 01/2023 production case. I have asked repeatedly where this money is, and I keep getting ignored or told things are still pending. In the first week of June, I got conflicting emails from two different agents at Sunnova: one told me my case was closed and another it was still pending.

I call customer service on a weekly basis, as recently as 6/14/23, and am told the same thing every time, “we sent a message to the billing department regarding your complaints and requests and are sorry for the inconvenience. Someone will reach out to you.” And it never happens, I call back every week. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO WITH ANYONE BUT SUNNOVA!

Sunnova and their installer, usnoa, contracted with me on 10/1/21 for a solar system and Heat Pump system. I was told the project would be complete by EOY 2021, would take 2-3 days on site, and all work completed by their partner, USNOA. Fast forward to now, they did not get my panels on my roof until 1/19/22, which also took them 8 days to get up! This was just for the solar, not including the heat pump. They also installed an interior subpanel outside, resulting in them needing to come out to fix and shutting off my electricity for a 2nd day. They then took 2 months to get my "Heat Pump" in. I was supposed to receive a 16 SEER Rheem Heat Pump, but instead received a 14 SEER Grand Aire AC system. The manufacturer, energy efficiency, and entire unit was wrong. As a result, I havent had heat in my home for over a year! I notified Sunnova and USNOA of these issues, neither wanted to help.

USNOA went bankrupt, I informed Sunnova that my contract hadn't been fulfilled and I can't start payment until it does. If USNOA can't complete the install, then Sunnova shouldn't be paying them. I am not sure what Sunnova did, but in August 2022, they started to bill me, even though my system wasn't interconnected and I am missing my heat pump. I eventually had to complete paperwork myself to get the solar interconnected but Sunnova still refused to help. I sent them a breach of contract notice and termination notice, both of which were received but no formal response was sent back to me. As a result, I have to assume sunnova is in agreement. Recently, Sunnova tried to connect my bank account to autopay without approval, trespassed on my property turning my panels off, and reported me to the credit bureaus, even though our contract is null and void. Avoid these scammers!

We live in NJ. We signed up with local Sunny Mac, and are under Sunnova. In October, our bills started getting higher, and MUCH higher in Nov, then Dec. and Jan. We were sold on this system with an understanding that we would ALWAYS pay less, and it would be MUCH less monthly. We even asked if there were differences in the times of year and were told by our rep that the technology has progressed to a place now where the panels collect electricity even in overcast weather and with clouds, so there isn't a big change in the different seasons. For example, our December electric/gas bill was almost $400, with over $200 of that being electricity--and we still had to pay Sunnova in addition. We are paying more monthly through this winter than when we did not have solar.

I've gone back and forth since November with our rep. He agreed that it sounded crazy, asked for the bills and said he'd work on it. He never got us an answer. Since a month ago, he declined to return any calls/texts/emails. We have connected directly to the company to open a case. They responded with the basic "well in the winter, the system will produce less and so your bill will be higher" script... and I shared that I was told the opposite by the salesman, BUT also, even so, I would never expect to pay SUCH high amounts and asked whether the plan made for our needs/house was properly made.

They said I need to start checking with the local provider and see what the plan was---we reminded them that they are the company liasing with Sunny Mac, and that we have no connection to Sunny Mac anymore---and having a completely appropriate plan for our home's needs is part of the agreement we planned this on. They need to step in to do due diligence to research why we are having such an issue and take steps to fix it.

The rep called back a week later, forgetting our call and not looking at his notes, and gave the same pat answer about "less production in winter, higher bills", and when I reminded him that because this is an extreme example, I need more research and a solution---he said he would work on it and revert. No one has reached us since. We are complaining in every way we can think of, until this is resolved.

I am told I will be given the contract AFTER I pay the 10k in full. In what world does that many any sense?

I also apparently can't have my roofer or another qualified contractor do the work without voiding my warranty. Talking to customer service is an exercise in futility. After trying for a week to get the link to work I called and reported it; I was told that another email would be sent out. A week later I have no email and no $900. The customer service rep I just spoke with said there is no record of any of my calls (about 6 at this point) and he will create a ticket for me. They clearly never had any intention of following through. I am done. This company is either incredibly incompetent or just outright corrupt. I am stuck with them. I was able to schedule the panel removal October 18, 2022 and now this is November 7, 2022 and I am unable to successfully make an appointment to reinstall the panels. When I call the agents simply make notes in the system but nothing is being done. I only needed three days for the roof to be completed and now it is almost 3 weeks and I still have no hopes of ever having my panels reinstalled. Was sent to collections on the 2nd account with no notification. Tried to work with them to a fair resolution but robotic customer service was unhelpful since they are holding my solar panels hostage for a bill I never received. Even after agreeing to pay half so that I could get my panels turned back on which I agreed to do they then say that the panels would be turned back on after collections calls me in 3 to 5 days. Terrible customer service, how can a paperless company send a paper bill for one account and not the other. So dissatisfied and disappointed in my dealing with this company.

SUNNOVA IS HORRIBLE IN EVERY WAY. For starters, it took them 6 months to set up the system and get it running at our house. Their customer service is the WORST, and they NEVER return calls. All they say is, "I'm sorry, somebody will call you back in 24-48 hours"... and they NEVER do. I had to reschedule an appointment once and they never told their NJ technician, and he STILL came. What a shame.

Their salesman LIED to us in 2014 and said the cost to remove and reinstall the panels in order to get a new roof would always be $500. I knew nothing about solar at that time, so that seemed normal. Now in 2022 they are telling us it is $6,350. Actually, in the past two months they have told us it would cost $4,000, $4,800, $6,100, and now up to the $6,350. If I knew that, I would have waited until AFTER I got my new roof to convert to solar. I can certainly understand the price rising from $500, but now it is borderline extortion. I filed a complaint with the BBB, only to see that Sunnova Energy already has 470+ outstanding complaints as of October 2022. IF I knew in 2014 what my Sunnova experience would be like in 2022, I would NEVER have answered the door when their salesman rang my doorbell. STAY AWAY FROM SUNNOVA ENERGY... I signed 7 contracts by the time they got just my information correct.. Then the salesman lying to make the sale… Stating that you will only have a bill monthly from the solar panels of approximately $114.00 and you will only pay the service charge from your electric company… That is an absolute lie!!!

It took forever to get everything completed the salesman’s would call me constantly trying to get me to allow them to begin the installation and my HOA had not yet approved it yet.. Final after multiple cancellations of installer and missing appointments or Sunnova scheduling inspections or service individuals to enter my home I would take says off of work and no one would ever show or they would come sit outside my home state they are waiting for an inspector and then I would look again and they would be gone no inspection done finally I was informed and inspection was being performed and nothing then I received YOU Passed inspection and your service is approved for activation..

That took about a week or more then to this day from activation until now I have complained, spoken to a manager and a regional manager came out to have a meeting with myself and other home owners in my area that have had the exact same experience (we all had same salesman). Yet we keep getting the run around and yet We are paying 2 full bills and actually paying more than before having solar… We were told wait 2 months and see if your bill starts to reduce… THIS IS NOT WHAT WE WERE SOLD!!! We should be producing over 80-85 percent solar and to this day I have only reach 60 one time since June activation. No one responses. The regional manager is useless and does nothing as it is no longer Sunnova problem and your contract is not with Suntuity so they don’t care.. Whatever you do please do not use this company. Don't do business with either company. V3 sold me a solar system for my home. V3 installed the system which was financed by Sunnova. The system was deemed operational. My first true-up bill to PGE...**$6000**. This is in addition to my monthly payments to Sunnova for financing. V3 initially deflected to PGE. PGE took the time to review every monthly statement showing the system wasn't producing energy. V3 referred me to Sunnova stating they guaranteed production. Sunnova told me they would evaluate the issue in 36 months for production issues!

They finally sent a technician out who confirmed the system has not been producing any energy, so my PGE bill just continued to pile up. Sunnova and V3 guarantee that they will monitor your system 24/7 and it will alert if there are any issues. My system did not alert anyone! This was confirmed by V3. Despite that, they take no responsibility. I currently have an additional true-up of nearly $3000 for the next upcoming year, resulting in a $9000 debt to PGE. Sunnova customer service only provides you with a scripted response. They will not escalate issues and they lied and told me a supervisor would call me back regarding the issue. No Supervisor called!

I called again and was told there are no supervisors. They opened a case and then said the matter was closed because a technician responded and it was fixed. I advised them I was indebted to PGE for $9000 for their system failure. They advised me they would address it in 36 months!!!! Meanwhile, I'm stuck paying a solar payment to Sunnova and installment payments to PGE to correct the $9000 I owe them due to the system not functioning. V3 sold me this system and installed it on my roof. They deny they have any responsibility despite that the system does not work! They point the finger at Sunova despite their California Contractor license. V3 and Sunnova refuse to take the system down and refund me my money. Both of these companies are thieves. They are unethical and morally bankrupt. They should be prosecuted! I would rate them a zero if I could.

I'm a new home owner, after my house was built, the developer was affiliated with Sunnova for solar system. I signed a lease contract with them. First, I had to call them and verify that their system is not integrate to the normal power that I also pay for if solar didn't provide enough energy. Sunnova told me that they did, however, besides paying them monthly, I was receiving large electricity bills while a single person in the house. 7 months later I was our of the house for a vacation for 3 weeks, I've noticed my bill was high and I live in sunny San Diego. I called my electricity company and they said to double check with your solar provider, they may be out of service. Indeed, I called Sunnova and they monitored my system and sent technician out, I was not getting anything from Sunnova for 7 months.

After many calls, finally I was sent to the right department of opening a credit case. Each time I was calling, I was promised that I will get a call back in an hr. timeframe for updates, however, I've waited weeks and no one called till I call back. And again, each time I call to check if I was credited, someone tell me that they will call me back and I wait weeks. Their wait time for calls is at least an hr., and this is way waste of time if you're busy working. It was to the point that I was frustrated and wanted to file a dispute because I'm not getting no where. I called them and let them know that this will be my approach since they're careless about you and CARE about your payments even though their horrible system was completely not working.

Finally, literally after a day of me telling them that I won't pay anymore and will take this to next level if I don't get credited, I got an email stating that they have an amount in $ of credit that will be paying out my upcoming bills. Their credit is not even a refund, it's a credit that they will use so they cover up your next bills, really horrible customer service.

This did not end, I got an email from them after a day of my bill payment that my payment is past due, so I called them and sent them emails to see why is this since they promised that they're covering up for my payments using the credit. And here I sit again, waiting hours on the phone to get hold of someone. Then they confirmed with an email that payment was made, just because I called them they took this quick action. And then I was told that their collection department will call me back to confirm Sunnova will cover for the next payments using my credit. Overall, horrible customer service and their agents have bad attitudes, their service is not 100% good, you will need to monitor frequently just in case if it's not working, and finally, you will waste a lot of time, energy, and money using Sunnova!!!

I purchased a new construction home that included a Sunnova PV solar system. While the home was being built, their customer service called with annoying frequency (it was under construction, so they had no information to pass); if I didn’t answer the call (I have a job), they would insist, calling sometimes hourly until I picked up and listened to them reciting their scripted remarks.

After we took possession of the home, the frequency continued, though the message changed—awaiting permission to operate from your utility company…” However, they stopped calling with that regularity just before the 90-day mark, when they sent the paperwork to request permission to operate…yes, it took 90 days for them to prepare the form. Then, they went silent. When I called to get an update, they started fabricating stories. One time I called, they said they that everything was ready and they were just waiting for final permission to operate.

On another call, they said that their inspector had been out and there was a note about a placard missing from the system (I have security cameras and it had been nearly 2 months since the last visit of a Sunnova person)--I asked which placard was missing, then while on the phone, I went to my system and read that placard to the rep and every other one posted there (about 10-12 in total)--then, I went to an earlier section of the community to look at the placards on their systems which had been active for months to compare with mine and none were missing. The tech said that there should be nothing preventing my system from being active in the next 1-2 business days. Hearing nothing, I called again and was told that they had no record of a missing placard or of my call 2 days earlier, and that they were still waiting for the electric company inspection.

Finally, I called the electric company myself, and learned that Sunnova was informed more than a month earlier that irrigation valves had been incorrectly placed, preventing them from permitting us to activate the system; the electric company forwarded me a copy of their email to Sunnova informing them of the issue. When I called Sunnova, they started the placard story again. I told the representative what the electric company had told me and she changed her story, then said that she wasn't supposed to discuss this with homeowners because it was between Sunnova and the electric company. At that point I reminded her that they were working on my behalf, that she was misinformed to think that I wasn't permitted to be informed about the system I purchased from them, and demanded to speak to her supervisor.

In the end, I coordinated with my builder to correct the placement of my irrigation valves (and the irrigation valves for the other 18 homes built in my phase of our development) and was granted permission to operate within 2 hours of submitting photos showing that the problem had corrected. Sunnova did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue and had never contacted the builder to tell them that there was an issue; they had their $27k from my installation and didn't care whether my system was ever turned on.

Bottom Line: Do not buy from Sunnova!!! You'd be better off buying the panels on your own and hiring people from the parking lot of your local box store to install them--you'd have the same level of service, but at least you wouldn't have paid top dollar for it! If you are stuck with them for whatever reason, don't trust a word they say, speak to the electric company yourself, and push them or they won't move.

Within a couple of days I called Sunnova to inform them the system was not operating properly, I was told it would take awhile to determine if the installation was alright. Sunnova tried to collect lease payments before the system was operational. We dealt with that but had no idea of the future frustration! I monitored the production and kept calling, e-mailing sunnova about my concerns regarding the low output of the system. We received our first full month's bill from the local power company and it was higher than the year before. At this point I opened a "case" with sunnova. We had the power company do an audit and were informed the system was inadequate. We had the installation contractor and a representative from Sunnova both agree with the power company.

It was sunnova who determined the size needed, 10kwh but the system had not produced more than 7.5kwh at any point during any day under optimal conditions. For 9 months I complained all the while paying the lease payment and power bills that combined were driving us to the poor house. It should be pointed out that we agreed to go solar to save money on our energy needs. I am a disabled retiree on fixed income. After 9 months it was impossible to continue to pay the lease and the power bills so I stopped payment on the lease. Less than a month later, Sunnova offered to lower our lease payment but refused to fix the system. After carefully going over all the information available we felt that Sunnova should fix the system and we would continue to pay what we agreed to in the first place. This triggered a back and forth for months and months.

Finally, after being frustrated by all of Sunnova's excuses, I paid $500 so sunnova could come up with a plan to fix the system. Crickets. We paid the back lease payments to refinance our mortgage through the VA and we offered to start paying the lease payments if Sunnova would fix the system, again Sunnova refused. Our Congressional Representative Susie Lee's staff determined there was no governmental agency protecting consumers from unscrupulous solar companies. In fact these companies have a license to steal.

We spoke to several attorneys and hired one to send a letter explaining Sunnova's violations of the lease agreement. Sunnova laughed at us and told us no way were they interested in doing anything to fix the situation. We could not afford to go to arbitration because the attorneys all said we would win but still lose because there was no way to make Sunnova honor any judgement and the world believes that the solar companies are going to save the Planet? After reading some of the complaints by Sunnova customers it is unbelievable that Sunnova can still be in business. What happened in our Nation that allows the business practices of Sunnova?

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! The lease is a scam. The system barely works, I still pay PG&E 600.00 per month and the payment for the solar is 400.00. Sunnova says it is working, and one inverter is not even powered on because the one and only repairman that I could get out here, finally after 2 years said it was dangerous to have on and to keep it off. But Yay? The production scam dashboard says I am getting the accurate amount of kw????

I have called Sunnova so many times and to no avail. They book repair appointment and then they change it without even notifying me. It has been 6 months and no one has shown up. One time, I waited and waited for the repairman and in the morning, like 4:00am, I received an automated text stating the "Congrats your Sunnova Dashboard profile shows you are producing the correct amount of energy. Call us at 866-blah blah if you have any questions." And that was the "repair service response".

I am selling my house and it might kill the deal if I can't get it repaired. Who is going to buy this nightmare. My home is stunning and this company has held me hostage for over two years. I have been to an attorney, and he said if the deal dies, I can sue Sunnova...big deal.. All I want is the bloody thing to work. I have paid 89,000 already and I owe 49,500. I have stopped paying but it doesn't seem to matter what I do or say or anything. It falls on deaf ears, I need to get the media involved. This company is horrific. They should not be allowed to hold home owners hostage, And they clearly do. Look at all the reviews. I am sick over this. Shame on these greedy greedy CEO and stockholders.

The panels seem to work well. Honestly, between the smaller electric bills and the solar bills, I'm not sure I'm saving much money, but it's kind of cool to have the solar to help with my energy needs. From the very beginning with this company (as Sunstreet, who installed solar in my new-build house - I didn't have a choice) has exhibited a corporate incompetence. Their contracts are terribly written, and as someone who knows better, I discussed several parts of the contract with them before I'd sign. The only consolation knowing that if we ever go to court over the vague and undefined items in their contract, I will prevail because they wrote the thing.

From there, I get an email every month a couple of days after payment is due telling me my payment due date has passed. Even though I've always paid all my bills with them by that due date. If your software can't send reminders that mean something, what use is it? The cherry on this sundae was this month, when they changed software systems, rejected all their customers' third-party payments, then treated them all like deadbeats, sending dunning emails and dunning phone calls within days of the first-of-the-month due date.

It took four phone calls (they blamed it on my bank) to determine the problem came from their software (something they were aware of, but instead of copping to it and fixing it, they sent me on a wild goose chase to straighten it out with my bank), but they never once owned up to their problem or apologised for the issues caused to their customers. The email they sent about it (after the dunning calls and emails) said some customers were affected, but they had no way of knowing who. Again, your computer can tell you that. If it can't, you're doing it very, very wrong. I just think they don't want to do the work or take the blame.

A couple of days ago, I was on the phone trying to straighten it out, and the CSR said she was taking phone numbers of customers in the situation and would be calling them when the software issue was fixed and we could submit our payments again. This morning, I got another dunning call. After telling the CSR "attempting to collect a debt" what my experience was, and that I had not yet received the call that their software was sufficiently fixed to set up payments, she pivoted and said the call was to inform me the system was now working and I could re-submit my payment. The CSRs are very nice, and want to be helpful. They are greatly hindered by the scripts they're forced to follow (which were never written for this stupid situation), and by the company's poor actions.

I'm stuck with this mess of a company. If this were a cable company or a phone company or a grocery store or any other place, they would no longer get my money. I'd find another provider or go without. Unfortunately, I had no choice in the matter from the start and there's nothing much I can do now. If you're shopping for solar providers, you can still choose better than Sunnova.

We are extremely unhappy with Sunnova. We were told that the system they installed would be sufficient to meet our energy needs. In fact, we were stuck with a huge true-up bill at the end of the year. They keep telling us that the system provides the energy that they said it would, but the key issue is that it DOES NOT provide energy sufficient to meet our needs as they said it would. Our energy usage had not changed. So we were fraudulently sold a system that does not meet our needs. DO NOT USE SUNNOVA.

I only get a resolution of my issues if I file a complaint, it’s how my roof damaged during installation was resolved. My current issue is their lack of information when asked for shipping information on my modern replacement and inverter replacement to arrive. Unfortunately due to my 25 yr lease, I still have to pay for an outdated system and the power bill in full instead of the “savings” that its solar panels was supposed to provide. This company has poor supply management overall. Basic information such as being able to provide an estimated ship date should be available, it’s been 2 months and I get the same response whenever I called their so-called “customer service.” More like a NONE service at this point.

I've been a Sunnova customer for about 3 plus yrs, And the system works fine as advertised. But recently I was told that I needed a roof and my Solar company should've NEVER installed solar on my current roof. I then had to go thru the costly process of having the panels removed, Along with calling at least 20 times to get Sunnova to send the agreement for the work to be done, It's been since early September and I'm still being told it will be 3 business Days for the agreement to be sent. It's already been 4 weeks and still no agreement in my email. I've asked to speak to a manager and was told that someone would give me a call because they don't have the ability to transfer calls....Never received a call from anyone.

I'd recommend solar to anyone, Just don't deal with Sunnova...The winter is coming and I have a leaky roof...The roofing company along with the removal company (Trinity) is just waiting for Sunnova which seems content on just taking your payments and provide no answers and move with no sense of urgency, Let alone call you back...I just hope the winter holds off so I can get the work done, It's taking longer to send an email the the roofing company needs to do the roof....That's crazy. Sunnova just seems interested in collecting money, If you don't think you will ever need them for anything...They might work for you, But if you want a company that will stand by their work and provide good service....I suggest you look elsewhere.

Sunnova only “offers” to let me buy my way out of lease for 15k. They sent people to fix leaks twice already and neither time did they actually fix lease.

I sprouted a few new gray hairs trying to buy a house with existing Sunnova panels. Instead of taking over the lease, we decided to do a buyout so that we'd own the panels outright. Sunnova messed up the paperwork not once, but twice, finally getting it right on the third try. Even after listening to promises that the process would be expedited, nothing ended up expedited and they dragged their feet the entire way. The transfer paperwork that we needed to close escrow was delayed, which held up our closing date. Multiple calls to their customer service reps were exercises in frustration; reps were powerless to do anything to help, and asking for an escalation was like hitting a brick wall, as they would always claim that it was impossible to talk to a supervisor. Any request for escalation was met with a promise of a callback within 24-48 hours, but those promises were not kept either.

They are plenty quick to ask for payment, though -- they wouldn't even create an account for me unless I agreed to a credit check (can't do that -- I'm trying to close on a mortgage!) or pay a $1000 deposit. With every rep I talked to, I needed to re-explain that I'm buying out the solar, so none of that is necessary. Even now, after escrow's closed and the solar's been transferred to my name, they're STILL calling me asking for me to include a payment method in my account. Why?? I don't owe you guys a dime. So now I'm just praying that nothing bad happens to the panels or the roof, and that I won't need Sunnova service anytime soon. I feel like I just inherited an albatross. Such a shame, too, because companies like Sunnova give solar energy a bad rap.

They lie to you in a calm manner when they say ‘they’ll have a supervisor call you back’ or whenever they do tell you something will be done they will never tell you when or how. And usually it never happens. They withhold documents or ignore emails, they never respond. They appear to put a lot of emphasize on getting their stock prices high to please investors but the reality that as a company they are horribly dishonest and crooks. They nearly delayed closing on our house because they never informed both the old owners and us about the timeline and withheld some of the paperwork. Then they never actually completed the transfer of ownership and kept charging the old owner until we both got involved.

Then we had to get our roof replaced (interesting that they ended up installing the panels on a very old roof…hmm…) and it took 2+ months of DAILY phone calls to get in touch with people to get the process going, and requests to speak to multiple supervisors failed. (It wasn’t until I wrote a public review that things were ‘escalated’ and they finally called me back.). And now, 2 months after the panels were reinstalled we noticed one of them looks damaged…And all we need to have done at this point in time is have a 3rd party come look at it but of course Sunnova needs to approve this…But ‘can’t give me a timeline’ and when I probed for a general one they say ‘2 months’ but of course they tell me that the process to generate a dispatch is ‘complicated.’ They are literally the WORST company to deal with.
